Etsy Crushes Estimates, Revenue More than Doubling
"Nc blowing past earnings expectations revenue more than doubling in the most recent quarter online retailer. One of the big pandemic winter shares up more than three hundred percent over the past year. And it's the biggest premarket gain earned the snp right now joining us to talk about the quarter and the outlook ahead job. Silverman ceo of esi. Josh it's great to see you this morning. You just had this blowout quarter. Let's talk about what you think. The future looks like and i ask in large part because i think we're all hoping that we're about to get into a post pandemic world that may bode well for some and may bode well for others. That's right well. Twenty twenty was a spectacular year for it was a time when circumstance met preparedness and millions and millions of people discovered for the first time or maybe rediscovered at sea At a time when they hadn't been in a long time and she's the kind of business that gets better as it gets bigger So more buyers means more sellers more sellers more buyers which makes the marketplace a whole lot better so to your point You know none of us really know what twenty twenty one brings. None of us have a crystal ball. But if i look at Twenty twenty ecommerce grew at an the crazy rate. Ecommerce grew it over forty percent year-on-year and yet oetzi grew two and a half times the rate of commerce. So i don't know what e commerce is going to do in twenty twenty one. But but i hope and believe that we'll be able to continue to outpace ecommerce overall in terms. Though of the way you think the shopping experience takes place you think by default the growth. You think i mean your how. What's the chance of the same kind of growth next year for example. Well i on the On the bull side of people we tend to forget. There's a lot of people even in twenty nine thousand nine who star shopped almost exclusively amal. Who never shopped online. So millions of people started shopping online and twenty twenty. Who hadn't before and they they loved it. It was convenient and interesting. And so we've brought a lot of people into e commerce warrant there before i'm the bear side during the pandemic can't spend on travel. They can't spend on dining so they're spending a disproportionate share of wallet retail and when they're spending on retail they go to the mall so they're spending a disproportionate amount on e commerce. So what. i don't know what. I don't know that any of us know is what's going to happen to consumer spending overall as you know as as restrictions ease what i do know though is if look over the long term if you're looking at twenty twenty two twenty twenty three and beyond ecommerce bigger and stronger and will be bigger and stronger. I believe as a result. Josh as you know. Musk tweeted on january twenty six. I hope you've saved the tweet. I kinda love at see. How much was that tweet worth. You think this quarter trades on the fundamentals and has always traded on the fundamental so at the time that he sent that tweet. Oetzi stock price went up. I forget the amount. But i think we gained a billion and a half two billion dollars market at four two hours and then the stock price settled right back down to where it started before the tweeting by the way. He's tweeting about the fact that he loves the marketplace tweeting about a product that he bought for his dog. Which which i love. But you know we trade on the fundamentals and i think it's so important that we keep talking about the fundamentals and i hope that's always traits on the fundamentals. Not on some story. That's that's other than that. You thinking at all about accepting bitcoin not right now i'm holder. I've held bitcoin for six or seven years. Now i think on the theory that i think it can be an interesting store of value. It could be an interesting tender. Some david need a whole lot more people to buy an own it before. I think it's really useful for people as as a and then. Finally i wanted to ask you about how you see the marketplace world versus the website or store world given the successive shoplifting. By how many of you are small. Businesses are both on on your service and also developing their own. And what does that mix look like for you know. Many of our sellers will also have their own shop. The challenges creating your own shop today is is is creating a lemonade. Stand in the desert right. It's harder and harder for an individual site to rise above the noise and become a brand that people can remember all the trends. I see is you know. We're consolidating fewer and fewer large e commerce platforms. And that's because the human brain can only remember somebody brands. We can only keep four five six eight brands in mind for everything else. We've got to go to google and we'd better go to facebook and if you're downstream google facebook then they're going to be the ones who get all of the economics so i don't think it's likely that there's going to be two billion thriving individual places to go buy things and years from now. I think there's going to be a handful. So the job of that seeing is to create a brand that stands for something that's meaningful and all of our sellers as a result
Bitcoin Investing Is ESG Investing
"Today we are talking about wipe bitcoin investing is e s g. Investing before i start i want to give their two sources of inspiration for this particular podcast. The first is kind of general. When we start new bull market cycles there is inevitably a new wave of fear uncertainty and doubt. That happens the cynical side of this. Is that people who have been against bitcoin and crypto for perpetuity are re upping and doubling down on their entrenched transpositions because otherwise. They look stupid for having missed it. Visit absolutely a thing. I've mentioned in a number of times. But the non cynical take which is much more important i think is that there are by definition a lot of new people discovering bitcoin. The price rises. It's not at all dismissive of all bitcoins. Nonfinancial properties to recognize that number go up is just about the best marketing to get people to pay attention. Certainly i believe saito. She recognized this. So if we take it from that angle. We have to assume that every new cycle brings new people. Many of whom will naturally have been scepticisms reservations that they want to address. That's a good faith conversation. And i'm here for it. So that's the general context. The more specific inspiration is a set of tweets from row. Paul this morning. He wrote bitcoin twitter. A bit of help needed. It appears that bitcoin is not yes g. Friendly is the narrative that i think was started at the c. Be to slow institutional adoption and is now spreading to the media. I have a few institutional asset allocation committees reach out for clarification as they are concerned with espn mandates versus their desire to own bitcoin. I want to set them at ease that this is a false narrative. I know a few of you have looked at this. But is there a definitive article on the true cost relative. Cost outside of the cost is very low to secure the blockchain which doesn't really help the institutions. I'm sure someone has done some great deeper analysis. Can you point me in the right direction to something that uses factual data references and analysis etc. Something that will work for these institutions. As i've got an inbox full now i've been thinking about this topic basically forever so i figured why not do the show last thing to note before we start is that i am not actually a bitcoin person coming to. Es g environmental social and governance in many ways. I'm an ese person. That came to bitcoin in college. I started a series of programs to help students learn how to make an effective impact abroad. Reason just make an impact that made them feel good. That ended up leading me to think. About systems of impact in general and notice that charity and philanthropy while often very necessary tend to be the cleanup of extra analyses of whatever the dominant economic power system is is started to think why not focus that on changing the system that creates the extra analyses in the first place that got me to start working with a company called change dot org when it was just five people and i was entirely focused on this emerging area of social entrepreneurship. Dublin triple bottom line. Investing basically things that would become. Es g later on. When i was first introduced to bitcoin it was actually exclusively in the context of a payment system. A competitor ironically to square and in fact wasn't until i stopped thinking about it like that and instead started thinking about it as a tool for sovereign empowerment of communities that it really clicked for me. All of this is not to say that. I'm some big. Espn expert but simply to make it clear that this isn't a topic. I've come to recently in some big desire to justify bitcoin with that said of course feel free to disagree as you will but now let's discuss why bitcoin investing is. Es g investing to do so. I want to go through each of these initials the s. and the g in that order. I do think before we do that. However that we have to address the most commonly repeated critique of bitcoin which is that it's used for drugs terrorism financing and crimes of all types for someone who is in. Es in believes this to be the case perhaps because it keeps being repeated by folks like janet yellen. It's going to get hard to get past this. So let's first address it head on. I have two key arguments on this front. The first is that. Us dollars are used in far more crime than bitcoin. And that doesn't make us want to reject us dollars. And the second is that. We actually know far more about bitcoin dan. Us dollars and the evidence shows clearly that not only are illicit transactions at minimum amount. They are declining.

From ballet dancer to zombie slayer: Cree actor Michael Greyeyes on his prolific career
"You may have seen my guest today on the small screen and big screens or on the stage. Michael is is a man of many talents. He's a classically trained ballet dancer. Choreographer director playwright and renowned actor over his three decade. Long career michael has appeared in some of the most beloved first nation films like dance me outside and smoke signals. He has taken on challenging roles. Playing indigenous leaders like sitting bull wandering spirit to come see and crazy horse more recently. He's taken the small screen by storm appearing on hit tv shows like fear the walking dead true detective and the soon to be released nbc. Comedy rutherford falls. Michael is net. Oh and a member of the musket lake cremation in sketch. Juan and he joins me now from los angeles. Welcome to the show. Michael falen thank you so much for the invitation. Oh it's so great to have you here so you're in los angeles right now But i wanna go back a bit. Can you tell me about where you grew up. I'm from treaty. Six territory in saskatchewan My mom and dad are from reserves in the middle of saskatchewan. My dad's from moscow. And my mom is from sweet grass and my sister and my family. We lived in a couple of places where in the capelle valley. Of course lebron and then we moved to saskatoon and saskatoon was where i spent my boyhood until i was plucked plucked from the prairies at the age of ten years old to attend canada's national ballet school in toronto and my family and i we moved from treaty six territory to To dish with one spoon territory. So i could pursue dance as as a career potential career and so i wanna talk about your dancing a bit but first i want to know what was it. Like growing up on the prairies. What do you remember What do you remember about growing up on the prairies. So many beautiful things. Obviously that's home. That's that's that's my home. That's where i know about my family. My a my early years. I remember the sunlight of remember the sky. I remember my cousins and all my relatives. And i remember playing just riding my bike with my banana seat all over town. They need to make banana seats again. They're very comfortable. they do they do in los angeles. There's a whole like bike culture. We're fleeing be tricked out bike's banana seats. So you're known primarily as an actor now but as you mentioned you know you got into the entertainment industry in a different way. You started as a dancer as a ballet dancer. So how does a kid growing up in saskatoon and up in the ballet well by accident entirely by axes we were living in saskatoon and my mom was a teacher at the school for the deaf. A very famous School for deaf children in saskatoon and my sister. And i were doing you know little kid things. I was playing hockey of course and my sister was taking dance lessons so mumbai. I we used to week for my sister in the car and i was you know five six years old so i was like a super board super easily so it was like she died. She'd done and i would go up and check on her. I remember the classes at the university of scotch one and it was kind of like this wile experiences little kid i walk in. I'd look for her and then she be dancing with these little girls. In one day. I decided to really kinda pay attention to what they were doing. And i and then. I blurted got ceesay. Teacher overheard me. She said well. Do you think it's easy. Why don't you come on back next week. So i said A will and i told my mom all week. I'm going to dance next week. And she of course you know. I apparently said lots of crazy things as as a boy but as the days got closer. She was like okay he. He's repeating it. He's he's he's he's insistent about this. Why do you think you're going to death sex because the teacher invited me so with my mom and my mom used me. I'm so so sorry. Michael thinks that you've invited him. Smith usually oh yeah yeah yeah come on in. And that's how. It started precocious boy pushing his way into a dance class that he hadn't signed up for.

Joel Embiid Scores Career-High 50 Points To Lead Philadelphia 76ers Past Chicago Bulls
"Is a pro. He had to share the spotlight with Donovan Mitchell, who scored 51 in the same memorable playoff game this past summer. First time. Murray scores 50 in the regular season. Joelle and Bead does the same separate games at least Murray efficient as he could be 21 of 25 from the field in a win over the Cavaliers. Indeed, meanwhile, said his own career high while his Sixers topped the Bulls, they put that exactly 50 points. The Clippers bounced back two nights after
Embiid scores career-high 50 points to lead 76ers past Bulls
"The seventy Sixers got a dominant performance from center Joel Embiid as they held all the bills for a one twelve one oh five when it be scored thirteen in the fourth including six in a seven nothing run that put the Sixers ahead the state and be finished with a career high fifty points the first such as player to score fifty since Allen Iverson that it back at two thousand five speaks about twenty games is used and it all begins and all big numbers but just one minute of the cross was needed for me and then I'm gonna I'm gonna do it the bias Harris added twenty two Zach Levine had thirty for the bulls Michael Luongo Philadelphia
Nick Cannon Tests Positive For Coronavirus
"We know that. Nick cannon tested positive for covid and missed. I believe the first half of the mass singer recording so he will not be hosting the masked singer season five at the start. You will be joining it at some point but he will not be there at the start. Is it surprising that in his stead. They didn't put craig robinson. And they went with dc. Nash right. I mean because that's the thing is that oh well part of the massing family in the universe. Whatever we're calling it. We're gonna yeah. He's right there. We're going to bring him in. It's gonna be you know. The perfect fit the fact familiar with the set familiar with the set up familiar with can from you know what i mean like. There's a level of familiarity that would totally make sense so the fact that they didn't make that decision. Yeah i think is maybe a little bit of the canary in coal about how they feel about his performance. But if i don't know. I mean look let's say let's say it comes back for a season two one. Do you think they would replace him or to do you think they should replace him. No i think ultimately it's something to get used to with craig. I think that. I mean craig clearly is more of a singer than a dancer. He's clearly had moments in last couple of offices where he say he say. I had the time of my life. He saying when everyone was dancing. The last performance dancing so like. He's clearly a better singer. He's not a dancer but also we got to decide. Do we want to host to be doing splits in being able to like you know break dancing. What are we trying. What does the hosts half to be a good dancer. Because i don't think that's the case. So i think ultimately craig will fit in better and better because i also think that you know nick cannon to this for four seasons and i thought he was dog but now i kind of like realizing that. He's actually better than i. Give him credit for after looking at other work. So i don't think that it's over for him and i don't think they're going to go out of their way to get someone new. I think craig has job security. I think so too honestly for all of them give them another shot right like if the orcas willing to give the show and other shot. Yeah give them another shots. Whenever like again. I love craig robinson. So you're not going to get a no from me. Their dog all right. So do you want to talk about now. In order the people who went out from like sixth all the way to. I think that's a good idea. Okay so we'll talk about so super six is we're at if there's any performances that stood out to you can talk about them if there's any comments you have. We can talk about them there. Okay sorry i think my brain just like completely zoned out. Did you say so. We're we're for six or do you want to start at the very very beginning owned. We've talked about everyone on portal super six right so we don't need to relitigate everything from the beginning. I wanna thank you. But i want to look up. Who is eliminated early. Just so i remember. Oh yeah never mind. I know i know. I used to bill mcknight. I my god. I can't like yeah. This cast list like looks that i don't know if it does. I don't know i just. I was a cast than massing. Here's the thing. So masked singer season four happened in the preseason. We got a question of. Do you think it's going to be a bigger celebrity. Cast than before. Because of the pandemic and i said heck yeah. I said it's going be the biggest thing they've ever done. And ultimately that was not to be the case it was definitely a lower calibre was the weakest cast of the four seasons as far as notoriety goes but then you look at mass dancer they nailed it. I don't want to spoil people on placements on anything for the massacre uk. But i will tell you that. Neil was on the masked singer uk. Why can't we get neo on the master. Us that's my. You're so not happy at. They came home sir he was on the messenger. Uk closer to the us. Why was he in the uk. That's my question. I know but this is like a thing in the uk or something like that. There's a reason those whatever. I don't know all right so the thing the thing is though so i'm looking at season four. For example i would say that season four of the masked singer and the mass dancer are probably somewhat on par. Although it's interesting people like brian mcknight and jordin sparks. I would love to have seen on the masked singer and others like a party. That's frustrated that they were on the masked singer or dancer unsmashed singer. But i mean brian mcknight like literally said i wouldn't have done the massingir because everybody would have known who. I was a little bit of a kind of like seal vibes. You know what. I mean. So i i. I respect that decision and jordin sparks. It felt very much like this is a purposeful decision that i'm making to a dance version of the show because i'm sure she was approached for massing or previously so but anyway okay all right. Yeah you wanna go in order so the super six. The hammerhead gets eliminated. Doen't oh what did you think of rapid fire rapid fire. Oh that's when they just hit them with all the questions right back. I don't know twenty seconds or something like that to ask as many questions as possible. I didn't so i just felt like it was a whirlwind and then they would ask something dumb like. Do you miss your family like no. I don't miss my family. what do you. What kind of question is that. It's a waste of a question. If these people are playing twenty questions they would make terrible choices for the first like this. Is your chance to narrow down between the people that an even even even if you ask a question and their responses like a little bit cagey or playful. At least you asked a smart question. Yeah the one about the missing. You're like do you miss your kids know exactly. No one is going to say. Even if they don't miss their kids no one is going to say no. But how does that help you narrow it down does it. Is it because because the thing is is that i can't remember exactly who it was four but i'm pretty sure they knew whether or not the person had kids. Because that's another thing is that maybe you're trying to clarify whether or not they have kids at all fine. But yeah as such as saddam. This should saddam. The only good thing that came out of it was the fact. That when craig robinson when i and then the little fire pyrotechnics off in the back. Also song word up how to song. Rapid fire did not have a song demand that their segment next time has a song rep firm. That's something in the background. But i didn't have any I don't know like pit bull or something. You need the pit bull song. The disney of like a fire song. Ivo feel like all pit bulls songs are about fire. All my god mars. Small bowel bump bump bump bump like rapid fireball. Something like that. I don't

"Twenty twenty one formula one seasons first major milestone took place that eight mclaren revealing. It's twenty twenty one call the mc l. thirty find and the team finished third and the twenty twenty constructors championship. And it's sayings powell. Thanks to trump as well as getting don ricardo as replacement for karla signs genius with all that change comes expectation and pressure and in this remark podcast recording. We'll be discussing what we learned from town. Today i'm joined sports f jonathan able to sports reports late smith and our technical editor jacob. Select and jake. I'm coming to you. I i question today what are the main takeaway technical changes that you've spotted on the mci five if he changes. There's a lot similar As we expected because twenty twenty cars we know very similar to was twenty. Twenty one calls with regards. Take the carry chassis for covid. Nineteen times Being still prevalent as well so does a few little changes Obviously we know that as the switch to mercedes and that's how big knock on effect to the rear of the car As we know every team has been lifted. Two tokens which they may spend on a certain area of the cost Areas requests takings to to develop The rea- off the chassis takes too so maclean seems to suspend its allowance on developing the era of the of the car. Try get as much bang free stock as it can because switching to the gym obviously if it can improve things there as well then. That's us what he's got a day. let's frontino which is relatively the same. As last year they introduce the. If you like mercedes star news In practicing magellan the carried forward. And i think part of the thinking behind that was because obviously that requires a cross strokes to change to to change in that requires tokens and so if they could do it right in the middle of the season than they wouldn't have to spend it going forward this season Hit them a little bit hard in when when the new updates first came out but they got it together. The end of the season. The place constructors championships. Obviously these changes date eventually bath fruits. But i think the key thing is of mentioned. The tokens have been spent on the rear of the chassis. The mercedes engine is not running power unit. It's a different architecture. It's a different layout and they've got to know. Just consider the mounting points on the chassis but cooling requirements as well and these will have a knock on effect on how the chassis is developed. So that's something they've had to consider. I think the most obvious showing if that is the change. The shape in the air intake before it isn't massively exciting. Last year. Had something of a darth vader mask kind of design which was is incredibly strange design. If you like is a lot more conventional this time it falls in line with what mercedes has every power unit has different cooling requirements Different architectures mentioned in the so getting the right cooling the right parts and the right amounts of cooling is is ideal so that's why they've gone to not direction obviously facing them say he's power unit into the back as well. That's that's something of a change so you'll the body sculpting in different way if you look to reaching point williams and mercedes as well last year. You'd see they'd have sleeping design on on the top of the sideboards and that's just to simply allow to drop down and on top of the floor and if you build you allowing high pressure that's to the floor. And if you building that pressure difference you're getting the disease to work harder now as we know another knock on effect of these regulations is the diffuse the as less potent this time around. They've had fifty millimeters lopped off the internal fences and so getting the to work as hard as it can is absolutely vital and say trying to get that clean athletes the back of the car. That's going to be so so important. In this situation to the regulations and other thing that we denote as well as the flows of changed mclaren has given us a glimpse of what it might look like by. Think that keeping their cards close to the chest on that one if you look at it. It's very very pads down. Let's say it's it's quite simplistic and we saw designs in practice the end of last year. That were a lot more complex. It'd be fat to say so again. Yeah the keeping something that keeping that caused cliffs that chest on that one because this might be an area of intense development of such but if team has a really good idea for that and is able to make up any ground. They've lost because they've lost of the all of these toys at the rear. End the slots the cuts if they can make up with what they do have available to them. It'd be a very lucrative area of development. So i think they're trying to sort of you know play expectations down on that front and just at the rear as well. The railing end. Play is brand new. If you'd seen that curved streak design something that has invented which is something. We don't say a whole lot on this on this channel but something they invent since one thousand nine hundred thousand. Something red bull ran with as well in in twenty twenty. So it's an interesting inclusion. it'd be interesting to see how how that works with the rest of the car. So there's a few to summarize a few new bits that we can see. I think there are more to come. By as a continuation. Looks very very sensible development of mclaren pops what we were

Proteas: Celebrating These Botanical Shape-Shifters
"Fond of as we're speaking. You have a bunch pictured behind you wonderfully illustrated on the wall but the proteas. I have to say those paintings by a friend of mine. Vicki thomas and she's one of south africa's most acclaimed botanical straight. That's awesome absolutely wonderful person. Carry on all right. Shout out to vicki. Thomas amazing i can seem from here. They're great but you know this is a group. That is a little strange. They're beautiful most of the time. Some of them are culinary interests. A lot of people will be most familiar with them for the cut flower industry and their use in different floral arrangements but in terms of a group of plants. The proteas pro. Dac as a family. Really kind of encapsulates. Everything you've aimed for and more and unlike flagship species they're not getting nearly the attention. They deserve for the plate that they're facing as a family of plants. In a modern world they are a real bench of wackos I mean lynn. A cult them protea or called the jenness protea protea. Because of the greek god. Protease protease was a shape shifter so lineas such will this plump family comes in such a huge range of different weird shapes and forms in not justice flowers but its foliage and its fruits and all the rest of it but there's only one name for them knots the proteas and some of them are crazy and they have crazy names to i mean there's a there's a genus of pro. Tac out there. called megahertz. Sia megahertz probably one of the best plump names. I think that there is and they produce these crazy flower heads. They're not flowers there in or conflicts ince's to be more specific about it. They have these amazing floral brax. The king protea the national flower south africa is is a conflict essence so hundreds of individual flowers surrounded by these beautiful pink or red floral brock switch. A modified leaves banks is the same huge heads. One of the most flourish in fluorescence in the world is a species of fanciable granted. The bull banksia has up to three thousand individual flowers in the end in a single head. But they don't do things by normal standards than nearly always bird or mammal pollinated rather than insect pollinated. They don't use a micro rizal relationship. In most instances. There are a few that. Do they do crazy stuff with that chemical makeup and the way that they use chemicals in their in their systems particularly the way that these phosphorus they are almost completely made of licnen and that goes for the flowers as well as a the warden the leaves you know. This plant family is yeah wacko to me. Just like people. My favorite groups are just the wackos the one offs the strange ones. That are just doing things. A little bit differently than the rest or sometimes drastically differently than the rest. And i am so foreign to most of what this family has to offer. I mean i'll remember going to the huntington for the first time in going. Wait a minute there trees

"An undeniable mixture of luck and sheer talent that builds extraordinary teams. The Bulls found that medium in Michael. Jordan. But even superstars have their limits and it seemed like Michael hit his own breaking point long before his comeback one can't help but wonder what the nineteen nineties bowls would have looked like without Jordan's departure for the MLB, his gambling scandals or the scrutiny over his endorsement deals. But unfortunately will never know the Bulls. Heyday is done for good and all we have left is the memory of their former glory..

"Bulls and bears out here hosed adamant just go sit back and relax and enjoy the joy of all the good and the bad of the financial markets have to offer excited right now got a lot to talk about as always you know talking about the financial markets a lot of people out there have questions especially here in the local area people are wondering you know what can they do in the financial markets or maybe they have questions specifically about stuff that chair but I talk about here on bulls and bears if you ever want to contact us directly because it's seven oh four two three seven three five four five again that number seven oh four two three seven three five four five if you have questions about you know bulls and bears you have questions about you know how to get involved start in the market or maybe what you can and can't do in the financial markets again just call strictly seven oh four two three seven three five four five that's seven oh four two three seven three five four five as always in studio coach of the bulls and bears senior coach Steve chapel yeah that's the weekend man a lot to talk about I mean this market is just so volatile I mean extreme volatility of me we see moves of eleven hundred points the Dow thirty her point one day moves in the Dow is unprecedented and here's the problem many people are participating it but in the wrong way there's derided this roller coaster ride there saying what should I do champ I own money in a four one K. I got mutual funds and stocks and there's a process built around preserving capital risk management that you should take it from the beginning but it's not too late to start to understand why it's so important protecting preserving a market like this because like I said folks is unprecedented territory we have tweets in corona virus in elections and primaries in and it's a unique time for traders and investors to either protect all grown protect will talk about both as we get started this week on bulls and bears well exactly champ you know you talk about the volatility in this market place in the market we say it every single week he goes up it goes down it just has done some dramatic moves lately and a lot of people like what you said you know they're in for one case I raise it probably didn't take their profits when they should and you know they're in a situation now they're wondering what do I do and this is a it's the bells ringing you say that all the time and this just reminds me so much seven you know the early start of the crash in a way that people have this uncertainty and they they I had a woman say the other day she's a well it's got to come back it's got to come back and I was like doesn't have to do anything well it could but what if you're fifteen years older and see that's the real problem with the significant moves in price if you're sitting in a four one K. position let's just say you got half a million dollars in there and the market falls twelve percent you just gave back a significant chunk of your retirement account I mean literally end in a week I mean the Dow fell the end of the S. and P. fell almost eleven to twelve percent last week and ultimately what folk with the focus becomes is that if I don't have to take that twelve percent loss now I have to recover from that now granted the market's moving all over the place of the volatility is whipping price but this opportunity in this if you know what to do but the key thing and we've constantly bang the drum of bulls and bears for years on this is how do I protect how do I preserve what I've worked so hard for how do I have money in a four one K. in a market like this and not worry about getting crushed or taking a twenty thirty percent moved out of my retirement accounts because they can't afford to take that hit because if you take that hits you might not have enough time or if you retire at the same time you might run out of money before you die and that's a real concern for this generation is especially the baby boomers and generation X. that are coming into retirement it's a real concern so capital preservation is so important and the theme of what we costly covered bulls and bears is protect what you got if you don't manage risk you'll have no risk to manage well that's the thing championing meet somebody in a four one K. and they don't think they have any options they don't even understand how to read the four one K. they're either in a target fun I saw somebody the other day they were not freedom fund you know freedom twenty thirty five fun and that means there's was at freedom at twenty thirty five and yet their portfolio is gone down in the past couple weeks and they're just wonder they go what's my alternative is amazing individuals will have hundreds of thousands of dollars tucked away in retirement in an account they don't understand their options they don't understand how to protected is paramount well this things you can do folks to ensure your money for one okay I mean the problem with the four one K. is that you can only make money one direction so when you sign up for that for one K. you put your money in mutual funds and traditionally mutual funds tracked the performance of the market as a whole so if the market drops twelve percent a week traditionally you lost twelve percent that we know that's a substantial loss now could it come back yes but what we've seen historically the takes a much longer time for things to go back up in price the market historically fall sixty to eighty percent faster than when it goes up so that time frame to recover to get back to break even can be years and we start two thousand after the dot com bubble it took till twenty fourteen fourteen years later for the price of the S. and P. to get back to where it was in two thousand think of that you're fourteen years old and you're right back to the same place you were before if you exclude your own contributions you basically spent fourteen years getting back to break even now you're fourteen years older you got less time to reset retirement goal that's a real issue so if you have money to forget because how can I protect my money in a four one K. well there's things that are called exchange traded funds which I can use subsequent order additional account on the side of my four one K. I could open up an IRA listen carefully folks if I have a four one K. I can open up an IRA and in that IRA I can protect the positions that are in the four one K. in other words I can buy insurance in iray to protect what I have in my four one K. and it's a very low cost to buy insurance.

"Doing one Thursday afternoon this afternoon with David Gardner on Tuesdays. In the middle of the video bill man turned to me and asked me which felt worse. March ninth two thousand nine or March ninth. Twenty twenty March ninth was Monday. That was the day. Dow Jones fell two thousand points. I hadn't really thought about reason he asked is because March ninth. Two thousand nine was the bottom. That was the absolute bottom. And so I hadn't thought about it. We were alive. He hits me with the question I said I think I felt worse on two thousand nine because at that point we just been punched in the face for seven straight months and it was the banking industry and the housing market and we were there were unknowns but they were all about the economy. We're asking questions when is going to end? Is this actually going to be like a second great depression and from an economic standpoint? It was awful people lost jobs. People lost their homes. When I see survey data about how a lot of millennials haven't been investing in the stock market. I totally understand. Why wouldn't you know what the economy was like when you first started to be aware of it and comprehended that absolutely has an impact on your psychology when it comes to money two thousand eight two thousand nine? That was bad economically. What's happening now? What's happening right now? First and foremost is about public health. And as you know it's affecting everything absolutely everything in March two thousand nine. I was working at the Motley fool. A company that was struggling at the time. My portfolio was getting whacked. But at least I could find some ways to relax and not think about it for a while. I could go to the movies I could go to a concert. I could flip on an NBA game. None of those things are options right now. So we're focused on public health for ourselves and our loved ones particularly if you have elderly people in your life as I do particularly if you have children as I do. We're focused on physical health. But please do not forget about your mental health to. We're going to get through this. There's no question we're going to get through this. But it is going to take a higher level of focus than everyday life which makes sense because these are not everyday circumstances. These are extraordinary circumstances. But we will get through this so i WanNa talk about you and your investing but I I gotta say thanks to Lincoln because hiring is still going on out there and hiring the right people who's one of the best ways to grow your business but it shouldn't take time away from your other priorities and with Lincoln jobs it doesn't have to and that's because linked in looks beyond the work skills and put your job post in front of qualified candidates who match your business requirement perfectly linked in. Make sure your job post is seen seen by the people you want to hire people with skills and qualifications and all that other stuff but also the soft skills those are important. Those are particularly important in a time like this. You want to make sure people fit within your business..

L. I. T. easy to two one zero two one zero not champ you know we talk every single week about the markets we talk about understanding the market goes up the market goes down a lot of people don't realize that you can capitalize on a downward move the market I mean our fans all the time and they go you know what you said something about the market falling in making money it's called shorting and people get so hung up on this idea people are so curious about this idea chip you're one of the best in the world about explain it let's take a moment let's talk about how to make money in a down market well if you member of first session that we did today on the show we talk about preserving capital in other words when the market goes down not taking the brunt of the moved out and not participating specially that for one K. in the loss well the beautiful thing about the markets when it goes down you can profit you can make money regardless of direction see one of the lives of Wall Street is that up is good in down his bed and many of you thought that your whole life you thought when the S. and P. or the Dow the Russell goes down that's a bad day it's not a bad it's just a day it's just price movement price action and so if you don't know how to profit when the market falls you can only make money one direction you automatically put yourself in a lower probability the making money because you literally can only generate profit in one market condition well the most successful traders and investors regardless of whether they're full time trader the doing the spare time they profit regardless of direction which means it up is good in down is good and that breaks the live Wall Street because Wall Street once you convinced that you think the market goes down it's a bad day you can't think that way folks you have to understand that up is good in down is good well that's the whole mind set out we've been programs you know you have a four one K. only make money when the market goes up you buy a stock you'll make money when the market goes up or program that yet has to go up to be good and we understand that there's an opportunity in the chaos as the market falls you can capitalize called short is a game changer for a lot of people just just a more most recent example a company called Intel you therapeutics ticker symbol N. T. L. A. they trade on the nasdaq just two weeks ago the stock was at seventeen Bucks a share and then fourteen days later from December fourth we're all the way up to December eighteenth it fell to fifteen Bucks to fill two dollars a share in two weeks a seventeen dollars stock moving two dollars that's a significant move down and so for a lot of people they could profit from that moved down simply by selling the stock before it fell now here's where people get confused about shorting is a how can I sell it if I don't own it because all shorting is is your broker allows you to sell their shares the loan you the stock to sell into the market before falls in price see if we could have done you could have gone to your brokerage account on December fourth and sold two hundred shares of anti Ellie ticker symbol into the market you woulda sold at seventeen dollars a share now don't get confusion out selling your shoes you don't own the stock your broker's loaning you this year to sell to the market so you sell the stock now what happens two weeks later it hits fifteen you buy it back now when you buy I back the stock when you short sell a stock it's called covering the short can you buy it back at fifteen Bucks a share now the moment a buy back your broker gets there she is back your place the shares that you bought from your broker could merely goes back in their warehouse so to speak and what's the difference not you sold it at seventeen and two weeks later you bought it back at fifteen replace back to your broker that to also share that's your profit on a hundred shares you made to a box on a thousand years you may two grand and you never ever own stock that's what shorting is it's not difficult it's different don't over think this folks short selling is a simple process of buying low and selling I would just do it in reverse order was selling at a higher price in advance so moved on pricing when it falls we buy it back we cover the short and we keep the difference it's a game changer and is what separates the most successful traders from the people who never make in the financial markets absolutely understand you can make money in both directions it's paramount.

He was met with laughter even from the jury. He was charged with vagrancy and larceny highway robbery and disturbing disturbing the peace and the judge informed the jurors that though the death penalty was typically reserved for murder and treason the various crimes of which the defendant was accused. Were so serious. There harm was so dreadful. If he was guilty he would be executed. Defendant didn't follow any of this didn't speak the language he had no understanding the fate that awaited also. He was a bull he was a male cow. So that's why I could've teased out some more played with your expectations. -tations bit longer but at some point. That would kind of hacky not to mention confusing when I told you as they will now that the judge informed the jury that after being executed the defendant defendant would be eaten that point. It would be kind of disrespectful both to you the listener into the bill because his life was indeed at stake back there in a makeshift courtroom in Ballpark in Waynesboro Pennsylvania in September of nineteen twenty four one of likely hundreds of trials conducted during the Nineteen Twenties and thirties in so-called courts of bovine justice officials at the US Department of Agriculture wanted to encourage dairy farmers and cattle ranchers to purchase purebred pedigree greet bulls with the goal of eventually eradicating also called Scrub Bulls. Basically the Matz of the Bovine World the belief was that purebred bulls produced airs that produce more milk or had bigger more delicious bodies and so they came up with the idea of holding literal show trials in farming and ranching communities around the country in which a single scrabble would be charged with grievous crimes namely that being a less than maximally profitable food product or breeding machine gene was tantamount to theft and over the course of the proceedings. The jury in the gathered audience would become convinced that their own scrambles had to go. It was a show an evening's entertainment. All Fun and Games unless you're the bull in unless you appeared behind the curtain mm-hmm the Department of Agriculture was far from the only scientific or governmental body promoting what it saw as the benefits of selective breeding eugenicist. Criminality alcoholism even poverty American scientists were at the forefront of this movement as were American state legislatures twenty nine of which pass laws allowing the four sterilization the people they deemed unfit to breed the fate that befell at least sixty four thousand Americans and when eugenic principles were embraced by the Third Reich. Well Anyway The AG Department thought that the latest scientific thinking should be shared heartland so a staff writer named Dallas Dhakal Burch of the USDA's Bureau of Animal Industry typed up a pamphlet titled outlined for conducting scrubs higher trials. It was written with a wit and imaginative flair. There's one would assume Mr Burge rarely got to deploy a staff writer for the USDA's Bureau of Animal Industry Twenty three pages that contain the entirety of Scrub Bull jurisprudence. Aw such as it was and lay out in easy to follow steps. How you too could hold your own scrub bull trial? such as the one convenient Waynesboro Pennsylvania in nineteen twenty four during the first weekend of fall held at seven pm so farmers and breeders in Boy Scouts and merchants in all of Franklin County. It seemed could come got to see it. Hundred seated in bleachers under electric lights on a purpose built platform aglow in the center field. There was music as per the pamphlet. It was good to have a ban on hand both to entertain the at Ds and assuming all went according to plan to play funeral dirge. After the verdict there was a judge. Judge Real on the book said this was better in real clerks in real bailiff people who knew their way around a courtroom. He knew how to hit their marks when they were the defendant through the gap in the bleachers to the place where he would stand in front of the bench and jury box as the judge laid out the charges against him. There was a script the judge would follow though he could improvise soften jokes in banter in local color. Were all strongly encouraged but when it got down to the bull. He should stick to the script late on thick that. The defendant is one of a gang of robbers which operates in Franklin County. During the whole of it's worthless career has been an ungrateful consumer a valuable vendor that the defending is an unworthy father of progeny. And so on something's something's optional. A hearse with black bunting the funeral oration clergyman to delivered. But there should be lawyers real ones and so there were in Waynesboro and witnesses local breeders farmers there to lend their expertise in backup the prosecution's claims that the defendant and the bull right there rope looped around its neck it soft ears for its tail flicking. Electric Lights reflected. It's wide round. Is The bull had caused his owner. Countless thousands in lost wages was in fact. Rank imposter danger to the heard. In by virtue of his nature menace not only to the prosperity of his owner but also the community at large. The defense attorneys would argue. This wasn't bull's fault that it was merely an accident of birth that had led him to sire offspring that would likely produce less milk. On average no sired by a purebred bull fewer fewer pounds of dress weight according to the testimony of the butcher to audience to whom dressed weight was familiar terminology. There were objections and sidebars ars gavels. Were gaveled as were only eight. There were examinations and cross examinations opening arguments and closing arguments. All all the things required for trial under the American judicial system except a jury of peers. Because who there could truly judge that one scrabble there to stand in for all Scrub Bulls born to pedigree parents who there could truly determined that bulls worth. Even the prosecution would concede he was merely being a ball doing both things but he was afforded the jury of peers to judge whether he did them. Well who might understand what boomer is to a Bo. What is the field and the feed? The buzzing fly the breeze the flicking tail. What is a life well lived in? That notion might seem absurd. Sure but more absurd than a bull on trial in the Ballpark and September evening in Pennsylvania because because eugenics was all their age. I am less sure. This trial ended in conviction as they all did. It's one of the steps laid out in the pamphlet. It ended in a barbecue which wasn't always the case. Sometimes it was a weenie roast. One Bull Minnesota was is dragged along to trial after trial. Once in Indiana the executed bull was placed in a black coffin and buried one time in July of nineteen eighteen. Thirty one bowl was convicted in a trial in front of Eight. Hundred people. In Neil's Ville Wisconsin but before he could be killed he somehow slipped away in ran off into the trees. Ni- propose we let this one scrabble standing for all scrub bulls though so a few of them exist now well well into the two thousand. They have indeed been bred in engineered and eaten out of the population. But let's let this one go to to run off into the trees. Let him keep on running to find pasture some tall grass in a life worth living. Whatever whatever them I mean.

"You finally started to show some compassion for Melo who has had a hall of fame career, though, you mock him. Yes. What do you imagine? He's feeling now pairs of shoes half. Do you have over one hundred easy? Okay. What do I think? Mel is feeling. I think he's feeling the depths of despair. I think he feels terrible. He's not wanted. He's a perennial all star. Nobody wants him. He he woke up one morning within the last three months to realize. He's a dinosaur. The way the game is played. Now, he's not applicable to it. He he. Doesn't play any defense. He takes two point jump shots. He's gotta have the ball in his hands a lot. He doesn't pay us very much. I'm so stunned at this. No one wants they have to pay the bulls to take him. I'm disappointed by it. Because while it became easy to make fun of mellow when it didn't work with the Knicks, and he was looking for team and people thought it'd be the Lakers, and it was Houston criminal. Anthony's had a great career. This is a hall of Famer Olympic gold medals. He is a hold him. He won loud. These guys. The time with a year in college Carmelo Anthony one more Syracuse loaded field. And so now, I'm angry about it. Don't tell me that everybody playing basketball in the league has Klay Thompson, and they float around the lie and catch and shoot. And don't have the ball come on with these better than a lot of. The worst thing is that the analysts were guide three bottle. More. He got he got to be a dinosaur. Look he was never. There was always he overlapped guys, Dirk Nowitzki, and Tim Dunkin and LeBron James, and Kevin Garnett and Kevin Durant. So he wasn't the second best phone, but he's a top ten player when he played he was a top Jess play. So you mean, the nixed a sting aren't rotten Knicks the team of your youth? They can't people wouldn't go to the garden of plop down. So they just watched Carmelo or the Knicks anymore stinking than the BULLDOGS, but we have already had them. You got no spot Aaron ration- in New Orleans over that terrible. No, call on Sunday. Some fans have filed a petition asking for a rematch this coming Sunday. Remember lawyers filed a civil. Our asking for the game to be replayed from that, call onward, we'll honor these things the NFL needs to respond to it was a matter of fact, he's the things that UNIFIL cannot respond to they cannot respond then Philip's bad enough already what they should have had. And I know you agree with me on this is no less than Roger Goodell should have gone to elect turn or he could have gone to one of those FaceTime. And he should've said, you know, what we got this wrong. We're sorry. It happens bad officiating? He would use that phrase is part of the history of every sport. So we're sorry. We'll try to do better next time as you say at the end of this show, but don't tell me he has to respond on Twitter. He going to do that. So we sit here a lot. And you tell me, and you tell the people that watch that the NFL owners are our Ghent. They are that the NFL is our again today is that the Commissioner is our is. And I very often tried to disagree with you in this particular case Roger Goodell not going out there yesterday. So Do you agree? you agree, of Of course. course. I do. I said yesterday in it again today not going out there yesterday and explaining what happened is supreme arrogance. It is you know, your feigns more. They don't do anything that leeann wait till two days before the Super Bowl Atlanta to take a question or two on hand. This is the worst call or no call ever the wrong team is in the Super Bowl, and you're the Commissioner. And so he says you hiding under your desk. Here's what she'll feeling coming out of that office and every owner's office not every but I'd say twenty five hundred thirty two is eat it. We're the NFL you love our product get you're gonna watch because you've got nothing else with your sorry..

"Got caught sleep in helping a little bit too much late in crunch time. Just holiday made them pay. There's there was some. There was some nice moments that happened. It's a shame that they turned around twenty four hours later in Las by sixty. Clean because what looked like a really nice win. Like kind of like Jim Boylan had a nice win to say. Like look at that. Because in that game the thunder the the bulls had them down the down by double digits in the first half. And then the thunder did what everybody expected they went on a big third quarter run Westbrook. Kind of started just running the game thunder getting open shots everywhere. Oklahoma City went up by ten and it looked like under. We're just gonna extend that win the game. And the both kinda dug in got some stops made some shops themselves and came back and won the game. And it was what appeared to be kind of like a early staple win for Jim Boylan to kind of say like look guys that was some resiliency and some toughness there and then twenty four hours later, they're losing by more than one hundred. All right, one more topic here. Kevin what's your evaluation right now of the Lakers and where the team? You know, I thought that they're win at Memphis. I didn't see it on Saturday night. I was at the the blazers timber wolves game. But I thought given the Hello the grizzlies have played this year that was one of their most impressive wins of the season. You you look at them record wise. And I think you have to feel really good about where the Lakers are given kind of our expectation that was going to take some while for things to gel, and that's certainly seems the case. And and then you know, the fact that Rondo has been out the last few weeks here defect that they're a game and a half out of first place in the Western Conference is pretty impressive. They're point differential is we talked about at length on the last time. I was on here. Not nearly as impressive. They're six in the Western Conference in point differential, plus two point two behind not only the four teams and having them in the standings. But then also New Orleans who somehow is three games back at them in the standings. So, you know, I think the right now they're kind of a decent team that has been getting enough from LeBron close games too. To keep them in the mix for court advantage. I guess is how I would just grab them, by the way, click aside as we sit here today. Most teams are about twenty five twenty seven games in. Thirty teams with more. Couple teams have twenty seven twenty eight. Okay. Five Western Conference teams who were in the playoffs. Last year are currently out of the playoff picture. Minnesota New Orleans. San Antonio Utah in Houston all out. I don't expect to stay that way. But I'll have to get our stats and info department looking into the fact whether there's been five new playoff teams in conference ever an MBA history. But the reason I'm asking about the Lakers. Also know Brandon Ingram, you might mention that. But no Brandon Ingram in in. Memphis the other night, he still want their best wins the air. Wagering will Darcy reported over the weekend that they were in some talks to acquire Trevor REEs. For contagious. Call while pope now go over a couple of things about that. In a second. Let's just before we are you about the future that what do you think getting Trevor REEs would do for this team Kevin after pull this off? Yeah. Time a little skeptical on a reason it funny because we've had sort of these two very contrasting examples of his value the season in terms of he hasn't really done anything to to advance Phoenix's chance of winning which was their logic that they were going to, you know, load up with veterans..

"So once which topics here. Interesting weekend for the Chicago Bulls. Interesting quotes. So essentially when the bulls decided to fire Fred Hoiberg, one of the things that they said, and I don't know if this was said publicly, so I don't mean to be stealing anything here. So maybe it was said publicly, and I missed it. But one of the things that I was told was that the bottom line was they didn't feel like there was a count of the day. Didn't think that Hoiberg was, you know, holding players accountable and that with their young players they wanted they didn't want that Abbas happening and not only is Jim Boylan kind of trying to be a hard ass. But part of the this the selling point was all right? Look, you know, Fred, let them get away with whatever I'm going to come in. And I'm gonna be the hard ass. So he comes in starts running like three hour practices. They get beat by fifty six against the Celtics was that Saturday night. And that's coming off an impressive win over the thunder the night. Before. So it's not like the bulls have just been falling completely apart. What did you what did you were you at that gamers, I was not at it? But. So so Saturday was the second of back to back. And Jim Boylan said after the game that he told his starters. Kevin do you remember how far into the second half? You pulled his starters about three minutes is my recollection. Okay. The last twenty one minutes they went without a starter. I thought I saw would add okay. So. He said that the reason he pulled the starters was because he was planning on practicing them hard the next day, and it would be better to use their energy at practice than in that game. That is a shocking statement enough as it is. But it Secondly eye-popping because the team was coming off a back to back, and it was also a Sunday typically, you would always have that day off. And even if you had some team event, it would be, you know, a meeting or film, but it being Sunday rice, you would have never seen a team come into practice on a day. Like that would you? I mean, honestly, Brian. I mean, I I've never heard of a full practice. And maybe I'm wrong. You may have KP you as well. But I full practice after back to back. I've never heard of that. I genuinely have you? Yeah. You'll hear maybe they'll call it recovery or film or something like that come in do some light shooting, but to call it a practice..

"Where they've landed like right in the middle between like completely pathetic and just tros is pretty much the worst place to be in congratulations there yeah i mean anything that bulls could have done would have been better than what they did is a good way to sum it up and and certainly how most bulls fans feel and i like both fans have have hated bulls management for the last four or five years with good reason so i'm not here to defend gar packs i do think that what's happened to the bulls speaks to how screwed up the system is right now and as far as tanking another year i think once also happening is that the market inefficiency for for tanking has sort of disappeared it's different than when the sixers were doing all this when when philly was was losing there were maybe two or three teams that were in this tanking conversation and now there are like nine teams who who are just giving up and tearing it all down and like so we've been critical of the bulls but the bulls are still awful and the bulls still have like twenty three wins right now or twenty four and so it's not like they've been like i thirty four win team like they're really bad but the problem is that they're eight other teams who have recognized that this is like the best past the best path for them and and that i think complicates their decisions from here i mean if if i were looking for like the most oppressive parts of the season i would say that like chris done who's not really like a longterm factor for them powered some of the winds in the middle of the year and it didn't really make sense to win those games but you're trying to say basically as the bulls are sort of like the microsoft zun mp three players like he key was the ipod okay he is the trailblazer he invented the strategy and all of a sudden he makes all the money he gets joel embiid he gets ben simmons after he got.

"Jaylen the bulls have lost a lot of games recently some might even say that i don't know their intentionally losing games to improve their draft prospect i dunno might say that and so people are looking at the fact that they are not playing justin holiday inn robin lopez that much i knew what happened adam silver wrote a strongly worded email i don't know that that that would happen but the league reached down to the bulls and said listen this looks like your intention trying to lose games you must change jaylen what do you think about this action from the league reaching out to the bulls tons of the need to play these players more often i really like it because i've talked about rest a healthy players for years and never being a fan of this tactic and i understand because it doesn't truly they haven't truly figured out how to conduct a lottery system we're the team have rarely misses the playoffs has the same opportunity to get the number one pick as a team with the worst record not take it to rectify this behavior is going to take place before the league to continue to monitor this and send that email out to the bulls shows me a level of progress that i appreciate and also you can't cheat the fans anytime somebody's paying for your product they should be able to get maximum effort from their team in order to see what's going to happen at the end of the game when you show up and you see holiday not plan you see lopez not plan that becomes a mockery and i know they're not big names but every team has rotation players or some of their top players that you could tell if they're using their players to their maximum and door they're messing with the integrity of the game smart move by until now jill you know me i use just read the headline in the first paragraph something on the internet but actually read the entire kevin love essay on the players tribute i want a quick second to applaud kevin love for being so open with the struggle that has a stigma with kevin love did was he wrote about.
