You guys have after worry whether the jury is going to hate your star witness bryant. There's no question that we're going to hear that from day. One was obvious <hes> we hate them. They walk out. They don't believe believe bryan winchester. She walks now here. He was ryan winchester looking haggard and drawn after almost two years in jail on the kidnapping charged. It's about to tell his story of duck hunting sex and murder. We connected like nobody else. I'm brian said he and denise had been secret lovers for three years. Before mike williams was murdered. The more we were together the more we wanted to be together. It just snowballed so fast that within two years denise and bryan were plotting cutting. Mike so-called accident on lake seminal. I think there was even talk about you know. It'll be up to god what happens not us. It won't be a murderer. It'll be an accident to most people. Divorce would have been a better solution but brian said denise a devout christian didn't want to endure the stigma because of the the way. She was raised because of her pride. I guess she did not want to get divorced. I mean we wanted to be together and and we weren't going to let anything. Stop that better to be a killer than divorce. I a widow gets sympathy and on top of that she gets one point seven five million million dollars so the weekend of the wedding anniversary became d. day bryant testified. Mike was not hunting alone. He was along as early morning doc hunting buddy. They pushed off the plan was to make it look like mike drowned in a boating accident. The murder weapon would be mike's waiters. We believe i believe that if you fell overboard with the waiters on that you would think pretty quickly we got to that area that i knew was a deep area basically stop the boat and got him to to stand up and when he did i pushed him into the water. He was is in the water and he was struggling. I pulled pulled off just a little bit to get kind of away from him so that he couldn't reach back into the boat and i didn't know it at the time. I didn't know if he who is trying to swim or i didn't know what was going on but but what i came to find out or eventually realized was he was taken the waiters in the jacket jacket off. Mike made it to a tree stump and clung for dear life. That's when bryant decided to change the player and he was paying again and i was panicking and not this was like going well. I thought it was going to go. He was he started to yell and so i had my gun in the boat sal loaded my gun and i just i made one or two circles around and i ended up circling closer towards him he was in the water has passed by. They shot him had autopsy. X ray showed buckshot throughout mike's six head as the details emerged in court cheryl was struck yet another blow what's hard for me. Now is what i found out in court which how oh he was murdered. It's horrible star. They told me the only consolation i could have was michael didn't feel keepers risque brian said after blasting mike with his twelve gauge he grabbed his lifeless body and steered the boat shore and push the boat back out into the water to make it look like eah drowned or disappear onshore he stuff mike's body into a dog great in the back back of his truck and drove back to tallahassee where he found an isolated area to bury his friend later that day when brian got a call from his father saying mike was missing the two drove to lake seminal. There was a storm that came through that night. <hes> you know my dad. I justice.

"Gun and I ended up circling closer towards them. And he was in the water has passed by Sean. Oh my God. In the face. Okay. So here's what happened do not hard. It is to shoot. Somebody just one shot. Anybody just in my world in the in the farming world? There are many times, like baby animals will will be suffering. So instead of calling vet to come out and charge me hundreds of dollars to put set animal down. We usually shoot him. Okay. I know it's a horrible thing to say, but you know it's much easier to shoot an animal in kill it other than watch suffer. And if you shoot it in the head, it's pretty quick. So it and I have to tell you, I had to shoot a baby pig. It is the most horrifying thing in the world to do. So I can't imagine shooting your best friend in the face while he's looking at you that are riffing. Yeah. In here you I mean he's you can tell he's crying. Vote so loaded my gun and I ended up circling closer towards him. And he was in the longer has passed by Sean. Oh my God. So here's the thing. He didn't have his gun loaded. They're shooting ducks. I guess it was a handgun water. Well, here's what happened. Yes. He disowned there in the canoe in lake seminal, right? And there's are those, those cypress knees. You know, the stumps that stick out of the water, right? Okay. So he pushes. This poor guy into the water and he's wearing his waiters, you know, and always those with suck you down, while they filled with water. Yeah, he took them off. That's why there's no bites on the waiters. He took them off. And, and so Brian sees Mike, do this, and then he and then his hunting license was in the pocket of the waiters so they found that in his hat came off. So he then grabbed onto one of those cypress knees. So serious life Brian's, like damnit. He's clinging for life. He's, he's not drowning. So that's when he decides he's got to shoot them. Oh my. I mean okay. You have an option there. You don't have to shoot him. You can go over and save fifty through off the boat. That's horrible though. Right. So he shoots him. And then he has to pull him back in the canoe ever tried to move dead. Well, very difficult. No. I'm just talking about like the people passed out in front of me ever. Tried to move somebody's pants. It's they way, like ten times as much as they really way it seems I have never shot a pig in the head. And I've never tried to move dead weight. You need to spend more time with me Missy. And so, you know, all of this has been discussed in our previous podcast, one hundred and one ways year to of a body. First thing is don't tell anybody. Just telling you, buddy, you can always go back to that, one to find out more on that topic. But this guy didn't listen yet because we never would've told you to dump them in the water, and then shoot him somewhere and make them drown pose them into the canoe. And then he takes them back to land. And then he goes and buries him in a shallow grave. Ask how double these cops that they didn't find seventeen union a evidence on the boat. Did they not look at the boat? Did they not look at this map did they not fight a gun? Will they didn't find the man he was completely missing? Remember like with Isabelle, Hellman case in Delray, the woman that fell off the sailboat with the vote, the guy I never found the body, nobody know crying. There's no body, what they do. He buried it somewhere sounds. So what he said, was that. Denise was the mastermind. Okay. And here's Denise Williams, defense attorney and opening arguments began by saying that there is no student about the fact that Mike Williams was murdered. The evidence is going to show the end any doubt, but he was shot in the face and killed by Bryan Winchester, a man. He thought was his friend shot him in the face. Brian Winchester was given full immunity, while in the murder, he committed, so he could help the state take down to niece. Here's her attorney again, Chester is not on trial. In fact, he's never been charged with the murder. He will be able to testify as he pleases about this without any fear that the state will be able to use that testimony against him. But he's here's a witness and he's going to testify that Denise Williams. Helped him plan the murder Bryant. Winchester's testimony is totally uncorroborated. Wow. So yeah, the police believed him. When do you did? I believe him back. I'd be I'd be like the mom. I don't be all because we, we laid that foundation, the alligators don't eat the whole body. No, but I mean, do you think that this guy acted in cahoots with his girlfriend at the time a girl planned it all? Mutually planned it here is he's back on the stand spry Winchester monitor and say that to plan everything, and I was just a dome guy who went along with what she wanted to do. I instigated a lot of it. I helped come up with ideas. I planted a lot of things. But overall it was very neutral humming. We wanted to be together. All right. If I'm a prosecutor, I hear this guy say this. I'm livid at this point. I just gave this guy immunity, and he's, he's willingly admitting he helped plan the murder of his best friend, and they let him walk just so they could get the woman or was it because the insurance company didn't want to pay the one point seven five million dollars. Well, here's part of that she kept paying on the life insurance policy. Even though Mike are has been the dead guy wanted to let it lapse. Oh, well, there you told it to them. There's your motive right there. Okay. Is money. So she this was premeditated. So oh big time. And so, and Winchester, Mary, Denise five years after he died, and she had already gotten the money. Yes, 'cause I. I would assume once he was pronounced dead. The, you know, the insurance company rights, you check right away. You can take seven years, but they must have done it earlier. But before she married him guess what she made him do. So I had a pre NUP. Probably going to say you're going to have any money I thought I would do before the nuptials. Yeah. She couple million bucks here. It's a lot of money before the nuptial. She made Brian get baptized to wash the sin of the murder off him while she's not this woman. She made him take a years worth of marriage counseling. What about her? I know. That, that is that is guilt. Anyway, getting back to where murder here. Okay. So Winchester, Bryan. Winchester, ready name right? He shot him with a Winchester in the face. Is best friend. Mike, Mike Williams, right. Denise Williams is the widow who gets all the money she makes his poor guy Winchester, the lover before she marries go through a year of counseling. And what was the other thing? Two two. Admonish him for in clear cleanse them of the murder. What a wacko. This woman is an eastern married her. He's an idiot. He's an idiot, he married her and then things went south, they got real sour, and she wanted to leave him. And so he takes her, and he kidnaps her puts a gun to her head a good thing. He's a little bit crazy. Call Trump's being around her. I'd be crazy to this woman's nut. She must think she's bulletproof because why would you call the cops you know, he's gonna turn on what why would you think he would keep that Confidencial these veasley because she figured she had, you know, by they wouldn't believe she was part of it. 'cause he sold the insurance policy. He shot him in the face. He buried the guy. Yeah, but she got the money. They both did well, they were married, so she could argue that. So, so this guy gets on the stand did they find her guilty. Tell me they find. Okay. So the Circuit Judge. She was this year. It was this year she was convicted of helping mastermind the killing of her husband nearly two decades ago and she sends to life in prison, plus the Circuit Judge sentenced Denise Williams. Additionally to thirty years for conspiracy to commit murder, she's in there forever, and the guy that pulled the trigger he's out in twenty years for kidnapping her in he'll be out in ten for good behavior. Not sooner. So he let me tell you, he he's a force to be reckoned with if you can easily ply man into killing your husband. This is dangerous. For you. I wouldn't let him I wouldn't want to be anywhere near this man when he gets out either. That's horrible. What he did he shoved him in the water he didn't drown. This is his best friend. How do you know how hard that is to, to somebody? He paddled back by him or maybe had a little electric motor and he's the, the guy's probably to help me. Raymond fay. So he leads police to the body. Well, we'll bones now because I would assume after seventeen years, not much left where the waiters with them just out of curiosity. He took the vest and waiters off in the water. That's right. And he gave those the cops right? I'm sorry with the license follow the story here. Just okay. I'm sorry. So they found the body, they dug it up, and it had a bullet hole right in the middle of the head face to face. No, I think he had a handgun he had his duck Conte, Dino, the duck hunting rifle. I don't know about shooting ducks. But I think it has this big pattern just like the duck breaks spray. So I think he also had a handgun. So he obviously had planned be this guy's evil to. And he said he had a loaded here. He is again. I saw loaded my gun.

"This is why I'm here. I'm comic relief. I love that sound by not Romy but I like that you're here because you know what you're talking about. Okay, continue didn't believe knew this guy. So all of a sudden, seventeen years later. A huge break in the case broker. Seventeen years seventeen years, we're talking about two years ago thousand seventeen this happens. Okay. So get this. So Mike who's dead? His former friend Bryan. Winchester actually married William's, widow Denise five years after he disappeared and was eaten by gator, convenient and married. My best friend's widowed wife. Okay. So they were having marital problems. And she wanted a divorce and tried to leave him. So he objected her at gunpoint only in the garage. Nice guy. Okay. She called the police. Oh, probably not a good idea. He got convicted of kidnapping armed kidnapping and was sentenced to twenty years. Okay. And let me guess, Mr. I was in the duck boat with my friend who fell overboard and get eaten by alligators story for you. Let me tell you, you take ten years off my sentence. I could give you the world. How about you? Don't charge me at all for the murder. i only get twenty years for the kidnapping and i will give you denise williams the poor morning we do see what happens you know this is why i tell you when you want the perfect murder you can't tell any play there's no statute of limitations on murder my friends so seventeen years later this guy goes crazy when the wife who was his ex best friends who got eaten by the alligator allegedly wife mary sir they're having problems seventeen years later she goes to leave him he won't let her he kidnaps her she calls the cops he gets arrested for kidnapping now he says i got a story for you if you take the murder charge off the table turns on her while how okay gotcha unbelievable right oh this is fascinating it's this is a great movie it's a right it's really well and so so yeah he doesn't get any time he's he's actually he gets immunity with impunity okay but for The murder not for the kidnap, right. But he still has to serve the kidnapping charges. Okay. Here's twenty years. Okay. So these two met so Bryan Winchester and Denise Williams. It's a love triangle. Okay. And he's remember. Brian is best friends with with Williams. With denies Mike Williams her first husband. Yeah. Okay. But when he went duck hunting with right. And they all went to a concert sister. What's a sister Hazel sister, Hazel color? They're out of Boca. They. Okay. Well, they went to that concert, and while Mike and Brian Winchester's wife for parking the car. Brian and started kissing at the concert. Oh, so that way. Ming sister Hazel for all of this sparks flew. Okay. And they. Sued the big affair ensued, and it was hot and heavy and. And what happened? Okay. So this went hot and heavy these two that are both married. So Denise Williams who's married to Mike Williams who allegedly got eaten by the alligator, she and Brian Winchester, who's married to. Yes, he married, what happened his wife. He dumped her off in the boat. He did borscht her. Okay. Yeah. Okay. She just went okay, just wanted to make sure she didn't fall, the duck boat as well. Okay. Now. So. The affair ensued. And then they both wanted to be together, according to Brian and he takes the stand at Denise Williams trial. And he said, you know, his was both of our ideas to get rid of him. And he said he of came up with the idea, because he and his friend, Mike had gone hunting before and Mike fell in a hole had, like quicksand in it. Oh, jeez. Yeah. And so that was like died, if Brian wasn't there. Okay. So he goes back, and he tells Denise boy, this would be really easy because he almost died today as she did not want a divorce. She would rather have been a widow live or say and follow the money. This is this is Brian on the stand in her murder trial better to be a rich with her than a divorcee and her her biggest concern with the divorce was. She didn't want to share custody of Ansley with, with. My all they had a child. Well, this woman was diabolical. Well get this. Prosecutors argued that she plotted to kill her husband in a scheme to get one point seven million dollars in life insurance, the pale, get this, the life insurance that her lover sold to her Brian's. I also eight boyfriend that she's having the affair with, who's also husband's best friend is the life insurance policy. Guy. Are you kidding? No. This isn't get any better than this is going to make a great movie. Oh man. It is. What is wrong with fable? So she faced first degree murder conspiracy to commit murder an accessory after the fact after her lover revealed that her husband Mike Williams was murdered by him. And this is how did he did? He really feed them the allegation. Okay. So here's what happened. Here's the real story. This is Mike on this. This is excuse me. Brian Winchester on the stand go vote, so loaded my.

"Episode. Oh, yeah. Because it involves a man being devoured by a very large alligator or multiple or multi think it was just one big one. It could be just dragged him to the role that role thing, right? Do they do? They drown you because they want you to be like spicy in rotten, and crappy before the use of the plant you at the bottom of whatever water body there. And then they come back and feed on a lot in Florida in terms of people being bitten by alligators. But not a lot of them are killed by alligators. So this whole thing, an alligator, my husband started when two best friends, went duck hunting and, and in a canoe. Okay. Sounds like a problem already. Sounds like a joke, actually guys go duck hunting, canoe. They're going down the river going badly for at least one of them. Yeah. So he falls overboard one of them into a lakes. It's like Seminole in Tallahassee and very largely, by the way. Yeah. Right. So you know of it, it's not like lake Okeechobee big. But which is the largest lake in Florida. And I think like the second largest in the country, it's very largely okay, but a little it's not like your backyard Pont. I think lake superior in those lakes, I don't know. I think they're bigger than Okeechobee. But anyway, I'd fight with you. Okay. So he allegedly drowned and all that was left of them were his waiters his hat, and his hunting, license. How convenient so police believed he was eaten by an alligator. This was in the year two thousand seventeen years ago. Hokey answer me this question. Do we know if alligators eat bones? I mean, they may Trump on that they found the arm of the one woman that got dragged in and killed here in Broward County. Remember for as walking her dog arm was in there. So I think they do. Okay. So was eaten by the alligator or was. Hey well, see, I always thought I remembered this story when it first happened and went, oh my God, he was eaten by an alligator, that's like that's like being thrown into a wood Chipper for as I'm concerned. That's really bad way to die horrible. A horrible way. This is what it sounds like. That's an alligator. That was hours of work in production to get those sounds just, you know, I aim to please. So every year, there are deadly alligator tax in Florida. In fact, gator bites have increased from about six per year from seventy one to eighty six here in Florida to about ten per year from eighty seven to two thousand seventeen that's according to the Florida fish and wildlife conservation Commission, I guess, one of the biggest ones is that poor child DisneyWorld exemplary. He was too, at the grand Floridian and spa in Orlando, and he was dragged underwater and drowned by the alligators because as you said it rolls. His name was lane graves and he bent over to scoop up, what sandy wanted to make a sandcastle in a small bucket there. And the allegations struck the father was right. Dairy herd the water splashing, and he ran over, and he saw the alligator grab lanes head and then Matt graves his dad jumped into the water pulling on the gator snout and he got bitten himself. But then the child was pulled underwater. This was that the seven seas lagoon and house Ariffin canoe. Maginness appearance. Can you imagine just as a pastor by witnessing that, that's a riff EQ that, that poor family and I know it was settled in, in Disney made it all go away and put up cute little science don't feed. The alligators. I mean, come on beware of alligators. So whatever that too same thing. Don't feed them. Play plan that's horrible. So that was sad. But it's rare that they actually kill the they did kill the one woman here. She was walking her dog. But this is what was alleged in two thousand when these buddies, went duck hunting, so the guy that the one that lived what was his name the guy that lived because the one that died was was he Williams, okay? The one that died is Mike Williams. Thirty one year old real estate appraiser, and his friend best friend, best friend. Brian wind chess, okay dot com. Ending now. Brian Winchester, says the boat tipped over yet, he somehow fell out. He somehow the waiters were found in the hat and his fishing lace, or duck hunting license was found nothing else. So he said that he was completely eaten by a gator. But Mike Williams. Mom did not believe the gator eating story. Well, I'm quite surprised at the cups believed it is convenient that I mean, did the weight see this is where my criminal mind comes into the waiters have, like chump marks on them where they torn where they tread. Was there any evidence on these waiters? Now, this guy got attacked. No. And I'll explain why in amendment. I'm sorry. No, no. That's fine. But at the insistence of his mom, he believes should ping the. I know you're.

"Jury that they would be hearing from Brian Winchester. And he said Brian story would be corroborated. He said that in October of two thousand seventeen Brian confessed to murdering Mike, and he took police to car lake where he had buried my all those years ago. Officers had to cut away trees pump the water out. And then they found Mike exactly where Brian said he would be in. The autopsy confirmed that Mike was shot in the head. Just like Brian said Fuchs displayed x Ray photos of Mike's head to the jury then x Ray photos of Mike's arms and hands were displayed. We're on his left ring finger. There was a small circle Mike still had his wedding ring on Fuchs said he told the jury that investigators worked to verify Brian story, and they talked to his ex wife, and Denise friend, Kathy, Kathy. And Denise had remained close friends all these years, even despite the fact that Brian and Denise had. Married, Kathy agreed to work with law enforcement and to try to record her conversations with Denise, you won't hear flat out admissions. He said, but Kathy does confront her about a mysterious message. Denise tried to send to Brian after he was arrested Fuchs put Denise his mugshot up on the screen and ask the jury to find her guilty and the twenty one years of their sex lies and deceits and find her guilty of these particular crimes, Denise other attorney, Phillip Ivano told the jury that they wouldn't be disputing the fact that Mike Williams was murdered or that Brian a man he thought was his friend was the one who killed him. But Brian is not on trial. He said, and in fact, Brian has never even been charged with the murder. He told them that since Brian was granted, immunity, he can testify as he pleases without any fear that the state will be able to use that testimony against him. You will have to decide. To believe him pot Vano said saying that Brian's testimony is totally uncorroborated, and he said that aside from Brian's testimony. There is no other evidence against knees, employed English. There isn't anything to back it up. You're not gonna hear evidence from a witness who said that he or she saw Denise Williams participating in the planning the execution of this murder. A you're not going to hear. Any witness talk about DNA evidence or fingerprint evidence. There's no tangible evidence or physical evidence to connect Denise Williams to this crime. No confession. No admission nothing. He said Denise and Mike had a happy marriage by all accounts. And that there was no reason why would be unhappy with him. Mike was a good husband father and provider. He said in may nineteen ninety nine after Mike Indonesia's daughter was born Mike started enquiring about increasing his insurance. His adviser told him that he should have at least a million dollars in life insurance, Brian and his dad were insurance agents and it sold like a smaller policy earlier. So when Mike got this advice, he went back to Brian and his dead to get a bigger policy. But said there was no evidence that Denise participated in any of those discussions about insurance or that she did anything to influence Mike to buy it. He told the jury that there is evidence that contradicts Brian story. For example. There's strong evidence that Brian tried very hard to stay married to Kathy after the murder, even begging her to take him back at their final divorce hearing and Denise had gotten into a serious relationship with another man a man named Chuck bunker after the murder, Brian and Denise did get married, but that was five years after her husband disappeared, he said, they separated in two thousand twelve and in two thousand fifteen Denise filed for divorce Brian tried to save their marriage, but couldn't and in a final desperate attempt. He decided to kidnap her putt Avante. Oh, then described the kidnapping saying that at about two thirty AM on August, fifth two thousand sixteen Brian climbed into the cargo area of Denise SUV. He then waited for her to get up and leave to go to work. He was armed with a gun. Done a tarp and two containers of bleach. Fortunately for Denise. She was able to calm him down by promising that they would work it out, although she had no intentions to. Instead, she went straight to the police, and he was arrested for armed kidnapping. Putt Vano said that Brian has a motive to lie and to make up these allegations against unease. He didn't mention anything about her alleged participation in Mike's murder until after he realized niece was going to ask the court for a life sentence. So at that point he made an agreement for immunity, which ensured that the state would not ask for a life sentence and guaranteed that anything he said about Mike couldn't be used against him. But said he also wanted to get revenge on Denise he asked the court to find her not guilty. Scott Dungy was one of the first witnesses for the state. His testimony was prerecorded and was shown to the jury on a screen. He said he was a longtime friend of Mike and Denise 'as. But that Mike was one of his closest friends. He said he helped search for Mike every day from December through February. He never missed today. He said his hope was that Mike had fallen out of his boat and swim to the other side of the island. He was hoping they would find him alive at one point. He was up in a helicopter searching and noticed a lot of alligators swimming, six months after Mike's disappearance. He was there when waiters a jacket a flashlight and Mike's hunting license were found he said the items were all in excellent shape. Totally sparkman an investigator with the state's attorney's office testified that he was assigned to the case in two thousand seven he was taking over for an investigator who had recently left. He said he found it odd that they never found my spotty that it had never floated up. He said they had never not recovered a body after someone went missing in that lake. He said he eventually became aware that Denise and Bryan had gotten married. Factor into your into the suspicious nature of all this. Yes, it was a. Suspicious matter. Of course, investigators sparkman said, they started reinvestigating the case looking into financial records phone records, conducting interviews and following up on leads. They subpoenaed phone records. But couldn't get them because the phone companies only kept them for so long after seven years. They purge them. And they were outside of that timeframe. He said they started trying together all the evidence that had been collected in the case. But they could only find some items they found the boat, but couldn't find the waiters or the jacket. They got copies of the death certificate signed on June, ninth two thousand one about six months after Mike went missing he said, he learned if the insurance payouts to Denise which heightened his suspicions. The interview ended shortly after with agent Devaney telling her I hope it sinking in how bad this could've been Brian was arrested a short time later in charged with kidnapping domestic assaults and armed burglary. Indonesia's petition for domestic violence protection. She wrote, quote, I believe, and I know that Brian will kill me. And or my child if he is released she also wrote I would never wish this on anyone. I can't sleep. I can't eat. I can't close my eyes because I always see him rising up out of the back of the car screaming and waving a gun. I can't relax because all I can feel is the gun shoved in my ribs. After hearing the news, Cheryl Williams told reporters that she hoped the new development with somehow solve her son's case, she said of Brian and Denise they're the only two people that profited from Mike's disappearance. She went on to say that she hopes that one of them will crack and said that sooner or later one will turn on the other Cheryl had no way of knowing for certain just how rate she was. In October two thousand seventeen a little over a year after Bryan's arrest. He pleaded no contest to kidnapping and burglary with a firearm. Denise went to court a couple of months later and testified against him. He was sentenced to twenty years in prison. But Denise was about to be in for quite a shock because little did she know Justice Cheryl Williams had predicted Bryant had started cooperating with police about Mike's disappearance. And in fact, Brian had confessed to killing Mike even leading them to Mike's remains which were found more than fifty miles from lake Seminole. But according to Brian he had an acted alone. According to Brian he and Denise had been having an affair for years and had been planning Mike's demise for months and not only that. But he said Denise was the one who had really wanted him to do it. He told police, quote, I had a good wife. I had a kid, and I had Denise on the side. This is messed up thinking. But in my mind, I had it pretty good Denise and Mike on the other hand they were at each other's throats, and she had two million reasons for this to happen. Then he gave what he said was the reason he could not Denise after they had separated. He said he was paranoid that she was going to turn him into the police. So he held her at gunpoint and made her promise to take their secret to the grave. In may two thousand eighteen two niece was booked into the Leon county jail charged with first degree murder conspiracy to commit first degree murder and accessory after the fact Brian on the other hand scored quite a deal with prosecutors. If he testified against an ace told the truth about what happened he would receive immunity and wouldn't be charged with the murder. Denise attorney Ethan way told reporters before trial that his client had nothing to do. With what Brian Winchester did quote? We will fight this until the end, and I'm certain when a jury hears from Denise Williams, and the facts come out, the inescapable conclusion is that Brian Winchester killed Mike Williams. In his opening statements. Assistant state's attorney John Fuchs told the jury that Brian Denise had been having an affair and that they plotted to kill Mike. He said there were three individual insurance policies, and that Brian an insurance salesman had actually sold Mike the one million dollar policy and while Brian and Mike talked about the policies, Brian. And Denise we're talking about how they could be together. He said Denise didn't wanna be a divorce say that she was from a religious family and didn't like the stigma. So they talked about killing both Mike and Kathy Brian's wife. They talked about going fishing on the boat, and that somehow Mike and Kathy would fall overboard and miraculously Denise, and Brian would be the ones who would be rescued, but Brian said noted that plan because he didn't wanna kill the mother of his child. So they settled on just killing Mike Denise liked the sound of being a widow Fuchs said she would get. More sympathy for that. And could be the center of attention. One of the insurance policies was set to expire in March. So they knew they had to kill Mike before then they also knew they had to make it look like an accident Fuchs said that waiters are notorious for being dangerous if you fall out of a boat they fill up with water, and you can drown. So they came up with a plan for Brian and Mike to go hunting in the dark and Brian would then push Mike overboard in his waiters, and he would drown. Mike and Denise were supposed to go and celebrate their anniversary on the day, he disappeared. But Denise was in a secret relationship with Brian and didn't want to go. So they decided to do it. Then they discussed how to do it. And how to set up their alibis. Fuchs told the jury

He held her against her will for over an hour telling her that he had been emailing and texting her trying to talk her out of divorcing him. But she wouldn't talk to him. And so he had to do this. He told her that he had lost everything and had nothing to live for. Denise told the detectives that she tried calming him down, and that she told him that she knows he loves her and wants to talk to her. But that this wasn't the right way to do it. She said she just started agreeing with him and told him that if he turns his life around and goes back to the Lord he could get her back. She said he eventually calmed down. And let her go after she agreed not to call the police. She was scared of him. She told the detectives and wanted to press charges. After hearing about the kidnapping one of the cold case investigators who had been assigned to Mike's disappearance special agent. Mike Devaney decided to go to the Tallahassee police department and listen in on Denise is interview. And afterwards he went into the room and told her that he wanted to talk to her about Mike's disappearance by this point. He had suspicions not only about Brian's involvement. But also about Denise 'as. He told her that they believed Brian had intended on killing her that day. And he asked her where Brian had tried to get her to drive to. She said he kept telling her to turn by the roundabout. But that she wasn't really paying attention to that agent. Devaney then asked her another question. I. Checking on where there. I mean. I believe in a really believe he done. I do want. I just I just always believed and have. From what he was saying roundabout, I have. I'm talking to people. Agent Devaney told her that they had come to the conclusion that Mike did not die on lake seminal. And that they had been hoping that one day either. She or Brian could fill in some of the gaps for them Denise responded that her focus was on what just happened to her and on getting a restraining order against Brian agent. Devaney reassured her that they were going to arrest Brian for what he did that she didn't have to worry about that. Denise said, she still didn't wanna talk about Mike that she wanted to go and file a restraining order before the end of the day. Verse. Not feel to me though. I have not down not restraining order in. That's with is pressing won't be so bad. So I understand that you wanna talk about this. But this is what I wanted to this is what has to be. Today. You know, why supporting you like this is a this is your this is your husband, something hashed? I'll be so interested in again. This is my priority right now. I'm just I'm not talking about this right now does that had an unbelievable day. And this is this is just all too much right now. I just I really one of those something you should learn savior of life. It all ended with was trading agent. Devaney said they were seeing a side of Brian that investigators knew was there Denise responded that she had never seen that side of him before.

The poster which had started circulating in late. December of two thousand went on to say that Mike went missing on December sixteenth two thousand that. But the thing was no one would be contacting the Jackson county sheriff's office about this case, no one with a viable lead. Anyway. And in fact, seventeen years would go by before Mike's best friend Brian Winchester would testify in court that he had killed him. Brian would go on to describe a gruesome scene after loading Mike's body into his vehicle, I went back out to the driveway to leave when it went out to the drought way. My driveway was angled, and I was walking behind my truck. And I saw out of the bag tailgate blood was coming out of the back of my tailgate and dripping onto the driveway. And that. Freaked me out. This is Jillian and you are listening to court junkie episode sixty five. In the early morning hours of December sixteenth two thousand Mike Williams didn't deed intend to go. Duck hunting with his best friend Brian Winchester, they often went hunting together. And in fact, they often did lots of things together. They had grown up in the same town, attended the same schools and their wives. Denise Mike's wife and Kathy Brian's wife were friends, and they even each had a small child around the same age on this morning. However, something was different. Brian had suggested to Mike that they go to a secret special spot. He knew of an told Mike to make sure he brought his waiters with him waiters. Being a waterproof rubber boot that extends from the foot to the chest. Mike met up with Brian at a gas station, and then followed him to lake seminal a reservoir located on the very south western corner of Georgia. They. Pulled into the boat-landing and launched the boat. Brian told Mike they needed to put their waiters on. And so they did Brian then got into the back of the boat. So he could drive Mike was in the friends. What Mike didn't know that morning was that Brian was nervous? He had a plan a plan that was very different than what Mike thought they were going to do. But Brian was concerned about timing. Everything was taking longer than he had anticipated. And he was supposed to be back in town soon to meet up with his father-in-law. It was a pre-arranged alibi an alibi. So no one would suspect that he had ever been with Mike that morning. Brian drove the boat into a deep area and told Mike to stand up, and when he did Brian got up and gave Mike a hard shove effectively shoving him overboard and into the water. It was dark out, and you could tell that Mike was thrashing around in the water. But couldn't tell exactly what he was doing. He didn't appear to be drowning as he had anticipated. Brian reached down and picked up the gun. He had brought and loaded it he drove the boat around Mike circling him like pray. And as he passed by him, he pointed his gun and pulled the trigger.

"Snapped it off to show what you can do testimony. What I mean? He started hooking up to them aren't hooking up. But then she had kind of extravagant shit like because not only were they hook it up. But they were going to Miami Beach. They went to this third from Iowa to Miami Beach. No that's big money going for Miami. At all. Okay. It's gone. I'm gonna say this. I'm going to say that what if what if Brian took it into his own ads and said, I'm gonna keep Denise for myself. I'm going to off Mike I can have her for myself. She's in morning now all of a sudden he's swoops in. We have the Knight in shining armor, plus the affair so she knows obviously there's sexually compatible. He doesn't let her know that he killed the dude they get the insurance money they're gonna live happily ever after. She's completely oblivious to all of it. Next thing. You know, he kidnaps her. He's looking at life imprisonment. He says no fuck that. I'm not going to go away that long. I'm gonna say she's the reason that I killed the dude and she's looking at more time than he is. It's a woman ever oblivious of anything. Well, never never once. I also know what you single she knows every single thing that he's thinking she knows every single thing that he has ever done in his life. Do feel. What else he plays in these stories though? And you know, this about Tallahassee plays out all over the country, Wisconsin wherever they the affair when people in a jury hear about an affair. They are all of our mothers be like, oh, I can can you believe gust? She had an affair even if she didn't kill him. Even if she affair can we just just for just for doing that just catching that, dick. Oh, what did this apparently so day one of this trial, Denise Williams trial? Bryan Winchester, testified how their affair snowballed into a plot to kill again. I don't really believe this guy day to family recalls. How they became suspicious and day three Brian Winchester's ex-wife testifies about tapped phone calls with Denise. So we don't know what's on those phone calls. I I will say one thing. I okay, okay. Where I'll give towards you. And maybe towards your argument is that maybe it's not her idea necessarily. At first or wasn't meant to be taken literally as that. Sometimes you're an influx in your in a fucking la- Quinta. I remember that look, oh, and you can really get you can get really boned up in that liquid. In there. You're having these fucking these rendezvous after. You know, like doing all this chased double dates with the hold off hold enough. And so now, you're boning, and it's like in the middle of it. She just got she's got the tip in her hands. Right. And she's just like what if we fucking killed Mike, and he's. Whatever it takes. And then goes ahead. And does it and she was like, I never met literally kill Mike, you know, much one of those. But also, it kinda may be planted the c o does it because but in that situation, you know, after they're done. Coitus making coitus making love after he's finishes. His he doesn't remember anything. Coma. You go back to neutral. Yes. So that is true. I also say this happens again, and again and again. Yeah. Eventually you start thinking like better kill folk and Mike if I want all this cool shit the and a meal. Oh, so you have figured out thing. He kills Mike. But that's what I'm saying. She's involved, and I just believe that women are capable enough to plan. These women are. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Don't mess with them. That's for damn sure. "He also felt like he was very very safety minded, Mike Williams was very driven and disciplined, and so you're not supposed to wear waiters in the boat necessarily because because an accident like they tried to say what happened could happen. So they found the day. We're not ripped apart my animals, so once he was declared dead, they got married, they collected the money. But now they had a falling out. And what happened was Brian Winchester went apes. Shit held her at gunpoint right after their break up saying she's gonna flip on she's gonna tell the thirties. What we did right at the insistent of two. And so then he got arrested for that. And then proceeded to flip on her. No, let me just say this. So Denise, no, how did this do. How did how did Mike Williams dies? So evidently. Brian was like I'm gonna get him off at the bottom of kick them off the body's going to drown because that's just happens right away. No, it's easy to drown bus them out of the boat. He throws him off. And Mike Williams is great. There's a log right here. I'm going to be fine. So he grabs onto the log is holding there. And then he's holding on and then just shoot him in the head yet. So Brian is just like fuck this. I can't wait a law. I can't wait around for you to get tired. I'm just gonna shoot you in the head. And now we have the situation where eighteen years later after Brian is facing significant time significant chargers, he flips on Denise now, I gotta say this. I don't know the facts here because we just have the facts as they were written. Obviously, Denise Williams attorney Ethan way, he says that her reaction was stunned. The niece was quote stunned very shocked. She's very upset. He also told reporters it's terrible the wrong verdict on the facts, but you have to respect what the jury does. He goes on to say, obviously, I don't think she's guilty of any of the three accounts ultimate. We submitted the case to the jury and the jury made a decision, but why why would she go out there? And you know, Mary this dude and have this whole relationship. And then all of a sudden eighteen years later, just based on the words of a criminal who has a reason to flip. Why would they as a jury think that this guy is reliable? They got the information. They did piece together a case against her. There is a pretty intense case against her which we'd have to go into with more research that she her story fell apart is what this is until she couldn't get herself out of the things he put her on especially once they found the body and all and she collected the money knew what was happening. And the problem is that if you listen to his test, I listen to about forty five minutes his testimony and number one when I meant when I said before. Denise spicy pepper cry about spicy pepper. Right. So jalapeno when you cut oh, sure. Maybe a little. Yeah. But you know, it's Jason who knows. Well, it also some analogy I'm going to say if there's a little cheese, and they're going to the doctor. Gets but the pepper right pepper on its exterior Peprah could be mild just looking at, you know, no. But sometimes you chop pepper, and it's super fucking spicy shirt with too much for handle. And it seems to be Denise was not unlike that pepper where at first because part of this part of the reason why I was interested in the stories all takes place in Tallahassee all around the bars. I used to drink at in college. So all of this the beginning of their toward fair happened with the couple so Brian whichever was married to a woman, and they used to hang out with Denise and Mike all the time. And they started getting only talking right as a couple in like we swap in all the stone. What kind of sex everybody peers, it's getting spicier d- spicier. "That side stories Robin, Hood dot com. Henry's got a great story for y'all. Speaking of obviously, it's another crime story. But this story we got some different opinions on Denise Williams as recently been set up. She's been convicted guilty of the murder of her husband or the excess. Sereda murderer husband, Mike Williams, and a disappearance case that kind of went nuts. According to the talahassee democrat, Mike Williams at thirty one year old real estate appraiser went missing after an early morning duck hunting expedition on December sixteenth two thousand on lake seminal in Jackson county, Florida. Investigators initially speculated that Williams had drowned hadn't been eaten by alligators. But at the insistence of his mother who did not believe the. Alligator theory law enforcement eventually began investigating and deemed him a suspicious missing person, a huge break in the long cold case came seventeen years later when Mike's former best friend Brian Winchester who married William's widow Denise five years after the disappearance confessed to the killing Williams remains were found in grave about five miles away from the home where he grew up in Tallahassee where his mother still lives. Now. It's a very interesting case. It's very sorted. It is we're gonna find out is that these this was a group of four people. Mike Williams was married to Denise Williams high school sweetheart right had been together than they were sixteen years old. Mike Williams was a work all Hollick. He was making two hundred K year busted, his wrong. They said towards your your Tallahassee cash that's not gain. That's big money. That's big money for Tallahassee. So we as he's so he's out there hustle and grind. Maybe. Maybe he's living. Maybe he's leaving something on the. Table when it came to his relationship, daddy's always working well ones. What do you get whatever? You know what I'm saying? Everyone has to do. They want to niece Williams and Bryan Winchester during this time period began to a relationship. So they edit three year long affair at some point. They had a child and Bryan Winchester helped sell with the at the admonition of Denise Williams helped sell Mike Williams, a two million dollar insurance policy. Okay. And then one day Mike goes duck hunting. And he never comes back who did it go. Did he go duck hunting with the do't know, he went alone? Okay. He went to loan to his favorite spot. But they're saying is that possibly that. He did not go alone. That maybe Brian met up with him. We're gonna find out is that Brian Winchester shot his buddy and buried him in a shallow grave. They're going to go on to say was that it looked like that maybe that he had there was a ship on his boat. There was an accident and he fell out and he drowned. And that the alligators eighties body, which is why no one found which they said, they're eighty people have died in like seminal. Okay. No, all all the other bodies have been found so say, we'll maybe alligators took care of them. But then they find out. Well, actually alligators this happened December alligators don't feed in the winter months. So there was no way for the alligators to eat it. There's a lot of different extenuating circumstances. The fucking engine on the boat. The gas tank was full they're like, well, he actually fell out of this boat than probably the the engine would have kept going. And then it would have run out of gas would have spent a lot of different kind of synchronize, right? Got the big kicker was Brian Winchester who got married to Denise who is a real spicy little pepper will now according to Brian we just clearer. We we clarify the Brian Winchester this dude was looking at some significant time hugely plea deal with the prosecution to only twenty years he takes the stand flips on Denise and his store. Sorry. I don't know if it's true or not because of the because of the circumstances surrounding it. I very interesting because to the reason why Brian Winchester was going to jail after the after all of this was for the kidnapping of Denise Williams. Now Denise in him. I got into a fight they broken up eight stop after dating awful because they got married right after he died to collect the money collected one point five million dollars. Because basically long story short. They found a pair of his waders which also didn't have the weird terror was supposed to have it didn't have all that kind of shit. There's like why was he waiters?.

Thinking, sideways stories of things, we simply don't know the answer to. Hi there. Welcome to another episode of thinking sideways. I've your host Joe joined as always by Devin, Steve, and this week we're going to talk about another fantastic mystery. We're going to talk about the mysterious case of Jerry, Michael Williams of Tallahassee, Florida not was family and friends as Mike. We are going to call him the subject here. Oh, my okay, fine. We'll call them Mike. Mike was thirty one years old one. He was last seen. He'd been married to his wife to knees for about six years. They had one year old daughter. Yeah, I know. And all by the way I'm gonna give shot up to Rene who suggested this Rene if you're still out there, she suggested this back in twenty fifteen. So it's been a while. Thanks. Yeah. We asked the questions from WALE whiter earlier. They're not. So we just we would let this one just sort of ripened for a while. Yeah. Yeah. Back to Mike. Mike was a real estate appraiser. He was known to be very hard worker made really good money. He and his wife Denise had bought a very nice upscale house in these Tallahassee which I guess the better part of town. I don't know. Never been there. Being responsible. Parents took out a life insurance policy on Mike for a million bucks that when they that is when they took out the life insurance policy was after their daughter was born believe. So. Yeah. Yeah, it was not not too long after that. Yeah, that's that's often when people start thinking about stuff like that when they're about advocate or just had a kid, I'm thinking about it as about to get married mostly because I definitely plan on murdering him. Exactly, yeah. Get more on out. Well, yeah, honeymoon AUstralia, yeah. Well. Oh, back to our story. The insurance broker in this case was guy named brand Winchester who was a good friend of my actually, apparently some sort of childhood acquaintance of his wife's dad become somehow good friends. Bryan Winchester by the way is now in prison, but that's a whole different story. Is he related of Winchester fame? I know I did that. I don't know. We covered this story before because this sounds really, really familiar to me now. I don't think now it's kind of similar to some of the other disappearance stories. It sounds really, really familiar, but. Okay going. Okay. Well, back to Mike, he was kinda into dot com thing and sometimes intendo game. Yeah, no different one real duct. Actually people are still do that. It's called analog dot com. Sometimes, yeah, you take your analog shotgun which is made of steel and plastic, and you go out to the lake and hide until the duck show up and then Bluey. I guess the nice thing is though in analog duck hunting, the dog doesn't laugh at you when you miss. Okay. I can also in the ideal. You don't shoot the dog shoot the dog and duck hunting not done. The stopped him from laughing. Oh, yeah. Your dog is laughing at you for sure, but you don't hear it. Yeah. Also don't shoot him, don't shoot. They will shoot back now, but on the. Yeah, let's go back to our store, December sixteenth, the two thousand Mike left the house early to go hunting and he never returned. Eventually his boat was found abandoned on lake seminal, which is a huge reservoir about forty miles north west of Hassi and the Georgia border. It's where it's gotta. You can find on the maps easy. It's where these two large rivers come together and they've dammed it there. So it's gigantic V-shaped lake. That's got like almost four hundred miles of coastline. It's big big like that. A typical place for him to go dot com. Ting that I don't know. I don't know. Whereas favourite spunk are. I don't know why pick that particular spot because I mean, there are other decent size lakes near Tallahassee, but you know, maybe the duck hunting was just especially good up there or something. Yeah. But anyway, the boat was found abandoned. Mike was nowhere to be seen dead or alive. So there was a general assumption by the police that he'd fallen out of his boat and drowned, which is not an unreasonable assumption really. But they dragged sir. Celek really extensively, and they never found his body which is a little weird because I mean, actually something like about eighty. People have drowned in that lake, and they've always found the body. Yeah. It's a reservoir, so, but I want to find the body on the other hand, you know, they're also lots of alligators in that like so, you know. Yeah, you know what they do for a living, right? Yeah. Okay. It's like a game of frogger. You run across them. Logged alligator to the other side. Yeah. Now, if they're if they're kind enough to line themselves up like that, and yeah, it's all about timing seen that picture though. You know how Gators and crocodiles, forgive frozen, know how they sit underwater. They're not like logs their nose up there at airlink at an angle, so like their heads are floating, but their feeder on their back feeder on the bottom or some reason that extra creepy to me. I don't know. Doesn't make sense. They got more leverage to launch themselves action quickly. Yeah, do that's probably why it is more scary and weird to me anyway. Sorry. Oh, alligators are really kind of fascinating. You know, they're kind of almost kind of cute in sort of prehistoric Mitra head off kind of way. They're terrified. T rexes are kinda cute. Yeah. Yeah, they're cute. Well, anyway, back to Mike police concluded that it was a drowning and probably got eaten alligators close case and makes waiters were found in the lake about six months after disappeared. And then about seven months after disappeared, his widow, Denise petition, having declared legally dead. Eventually she married my buddy Brian Winchester who's the guy that's in jail now. Thank you. Sure. We've never talked about. Did this. This. Even if it wasn't this story sounds really, really familiar. I swear. I know something about this now. You know, nothing. Well, I mean, I check the episode list because I when I was reading it, I was like, those sound familiar. We haven't done it before. I, the thing about the waiters just really stuck in my mind. Okay, kicking. Got, I got that from cartoons. No, no cartoons because you know, like an alligator like eats a person and they're wearing clothes, and then spits the shoes back up. Zydus assume that was why that's okay. Probably was that's probably where he got it from, but but Mike's gone cases closed, but his mother, Cheryl Williams did not accept the drowning Syria. She kept nagging police to reopen the case. And along about two thousand four, they did somebody did a little research and if out that alligators don't eat in the wintertime, print little water gets cold. They kind of dormant. Yeah, that's what I was mentioning earlier when you were saying about the the frozen alligators when water freezes. You see all these little stout sticking out of the ice because they're keeping their heads above water just enough so they can breathe, but they're kind of stuck their place. It's it's the creepiest thing in the world. You creeped out by angled alligators, look at frozen on, actually go to a frozen lake some time and stop their noses up and kill them. And then just say, I killed an alligator with my bare hands. That's probably legal legal Bromley probably actually, I'd be too scared to do because you know what, if what, if the alligator wakes up and like breaks the ice and kills me. What's his name that Adam Sandler movie with the one wooden hand. Yeah. Yeah, that does happen by the way. Yeah, I knew summit something that worked with was in Florida, and they one of those parks that has all the Gators and apparently somebody while they were there kind of lost his hand because you got a little fresh with an alligator. Nobody likes fresh allergies. Yeah, alligators don't like fresh humans eaten, but they don't like it. Smart alecky. Okay. So yeah, but anyway, after they figured that out, then that makes the lack of a body seem a little stranger. So they reopened the investigations, right? Yeah. But that's about where the case still is. It's it's been open for all these years since two thousand four, but no real new evidence has come to lie. There spent a lot of speculation about what his fate was a lot of different theories out there. So what the hell happened to them here are some of the theories accidental drowning, which of course the first presumed theory. Now, the one is that maybe committed suicide. Maybe you know, life was just team. She decided to kill himself himself to the Gators or I like this one a little bit. He faked his death by leaving his empty boat on a lake full of alligators. You know, that would explain no body and it just went off to start a new life somewhere or maybe he was murdered. Everybody has murder on the brain ever since that Steven Avery documentary thing. I know I know all this is we just murder murder where you know most people don't actually die of murder, believe it or not. Yeah, statistically it's unlikely. All right. And then we have one last year and this is actually my personal favorite, which is maybe the ducks got him. I mean, turned the tables on them, so that would also be murder in a way. Wouldn't it not if it stocks though it would be foul play.
