Everything is fine. We were just we just did A. Episode of our Patriot podcast where we talked about that really good book leave the world behind heavy read that yet Carolina now I have not the it's the one that everyone's talking about. It is going to be made into a Julia Roberts Denzel Washington movie. It already got like snatched up and it just came. And it's just like a little bit of like not depressing, but it's a little bit like about. kind of a situation like the one we're in or at least vaguely like that, and so I feel like I'm I'm a little bit like still recovering from that conversation. Doctor about it for an hour. Well I mean that sounds a little. That's unreal book though. Yeah. We did talk about in our conversation that that sort of question that you opened with like how you doing over there is like the conversation you have with everyone you end talking to, but it's like weirdly strangely comforting to have that conversation over and over and over again. Everyone sort of having the same or at least similar issue top level similar experiences. So like even though it's like talking about the weather, it's nice to have this thing that you can talk about and share with everyone very in a way that everyone understands right? Yeah. Playing at base level I also want to base level know that everyone's doing horribly and then we can just get that out there and then yeah. 'cause no. This has been a great year, right? Well, it's like, no one's going to say that but also like no one feels that so you have to say like, okay aside from everyone doing bad how're you doing all assuming bad but how are you doing on top of doing bad and it's like right? Fine a little bit better than bad not as bad. As. I was before you know which like Whoa I mean I'm GonNa correct you, Caroline because on a recent episode of our podcast to weekly, we did talk about a very funny page six lead from September twentieth..

"Thank you I've been waiting so long to rights to that status in your is. Your your regular Stan. Oh No. My roommate just turned on the air conditioner. See you later. Can I offer my take on this movie. Yes. I want nothing more for how much I feel like not on movies are sort of quoted shorthanded, being like the most generic prototypical like it well executed, but it's like Oh. You know that type of like Rom Com. Thanks Ryan movies which are seen as the big ones are both weirdly experimental in their approach to Iran. COM CA sleepless in Seattle obviously like. Can you create a wrong com with chemistry between the two actors without them ever actually communicating until the last year? And then this feels like an opposite test, which is like they're in the movie a lot together, but. What you guys were sort of talking about. The Hank's character is so much more of an asshole than you're used to this character being and the Meg Ryan characters so much sadder than you're used to this character in any sort of like oil and Water Rom com like this where it's like earning tracy a fighting fighting the fight until they realized they have to be together movie. That's pretty much always. Always. The dynamic like one is always a little side. Flinty in one is always a little, sad and lonely, and ultimately they realized they have to be together and this movie is her pushing those two things to their furthest extremes that she can. Because you have this narrative conceit in the middle, which is in the email exchanges they can just be. Your wrong countless like in the scenes where they're not actually together, they can be the most romantic the most charming cross cutting in different rooms. So that allows you to be like we're going to actually investigate like the sadness of a manic pixie dream girl. She no longer becomes that and. Horrible, qualities. Confident, like man with a quick ready at all times until he no longer becomes a good. Yeah I. Just saying there's something about you saying this wasn't the way that Rom. coms were typically then but I think Nora. Ephron she made now going forward. Wrong calms are the way that Nora and made them like she changed the now we all think of now. Every rahm comments sleepless as is. My God is. So low. Yes. Yes, that's that's kind of what I was going to say. It's like I think there's been so much. For the past ten plus years, there has been bubbling narrative of like man I wish we had Rom coms again unlike unpacking that unpacking that. Tear another two hours and it's it's its own mess, but I think speaking for myself because I felt the same way for a long time, but then I think it was like a few times ago, I watched. You've got mail a few times a year and it was maybe maybe a year or two ago I was watching it and I was like. Wait a second. I know Miss. Rom coms I Miss Nora Ephron Rom. COMS I missed like. Three or four you know like, of course these aren't going to come back because she's dead. And this was a very specific time and place like it's not that I missed the ROM. com I miss this specific thing and guess what I can watch it whenever the fuck I want and I think the close, which is why I think the Brom. Come that I think is my favorite since you've got mail. Is Probably Enough said which I think. Captures dynamic pretty closely. In that you have this person like these people who are being deceitful and people who are being really really messy because they are in love, people who have to deal with their own personal ship before they can deal what other another person Shit! And that's part of it, but it's like. I Miss Nora. Ephron I miss. You've got mail. It's missed the general concept of Iraq. Mom I missed the way these people talk and I missed the way. These people like I think there's also the the missing the Rom Com thing is also just the loss of like a mid tier. move by lives of like. I always think of it. Rom Com. It's just like what's a movie that cost X. amount of money. That's not a huge up superhero, or indeed or cheap..

"Their pitcher. Six Tuesday It's so cute and it does. It really pushes the neighborhood thing that you would run into say bars like very likely and I think a lot of people do run into people. They know Zeh bars. That's not unusual and so like the fact that they run into each other is not. One of those Rom Com meet keeping. It feels like a real situation that she's already. She's already set it up so that you believe that which I like a lot that these would keep running into each other and then kind of. Run into each other on purpose these Ramirez nowhere you say bobby. Say Sara Ramirez is like the her. Her best moment is whenever she's goes from smiling, being charmed by Tom Hanks to being like completely like despising of Meg Ryan that that facial transition is always hilarious, was the first movie ever to shoot at xay bars, which is crazy because it feels like everyone should have been using this location for thirty years, but. The other thing is they would only give them one night to shoot it, and it was like inbetween operation hours so. They filmed the entire thing from like ten PM until five am. And Hanks consummate pro. He is mayor of Hollywood. Nearly kept on getting on the bars PA system wish us to announce like which items are special deals. To entertain all the extras and keep spirits aisling four coffey. The one that that Ephron quoted, which is to charming the handle. Is He apparently got? And went. Giant. Shoppers Sabz wants to announce. That Meg Ryan is appetizing. Major, Ryan is appetizing. What a what an Angel To the shoe is might drop, that's how good he is. The shoe is about to drop I worry. Every day of my life I also feel like this is. To me, this seems like such an accurate representation of Tom as a person like he's A. Rich and powerful man like he's an Asshole, the rich and powerful baby boomer man. He's an asshole. Of course, it could be snarky, but he's also a sweetie. This is the closest not that I know Tom Hanks, but like to me. This is how I sure him in real life. The typewriter, who is also like you want nothing more than to be friends with him like this is what I wanted to say about the bar scene. The what you're talking about essentially like she's in the line, she can't pick. She doesn't have cash. Okay, so she's pleading for to use her credit card Sarah. Emirates has given her. You know the hard line. Then Tom Hanks in does the same thing, and what's the message here because it's not like he's like you. Catch more flies with honey. She was being rude. She was doing the same thing which is just like look I'm sorry, what am I going to do? And the Tom Hanks just comes in in sort of man's SPLAINE's the exact same. He's like there's a credit card reader. And Sarah Mir's is like well. All right so is the idea is just like he's just automatically gets a pass because he's a rich charming guy. One hundred percent. Yes, I think I. think that's part of it and I also thank like the statement here is your casting Meg Ryan, who, at this point is still firmly America's sweetheart like? Alter America's sweetheart. She's like the cutest charming. We all Wanna be her. We want to be with her movie star in the nineties and Tom Hanks is sort of the male equivalent of that, but also he is objectively playing. The asshole in this movie is playing villain to the business conflict of. I think the point is. Because I'm thinking flashing the inverse of the bonfire of the vanities problem where he's supposed to be on savory in that movie, but. He's playing his most unsavory. They're still something charming and likable about Tom, hanks. CANNOT DIM and I. The point is it's not that he's being better to Ramirez. The Neck Reina's. It's like she's not being considerate. She's being very sincere and sort of like considerate in her earnest plea. Please just help me out the point. The movie needs to make this scene is. There's something undeniable about Tom Hanks even when he is going to be responsible for shutting down her business. Right he's come out and said about remember when there was that all that kind of weird press around him being like I don't play villains or like I'm not I don't. WanNa play a villain like I did, but I think it's also that like. The maybe he's not meant to play ability. He's not really good at playing a villain and a lot of directors and writers maybe know that when they're like looking for a Tom. Hanks vehicle harsh, also his biggest failure this big mistake. It's an actor. I think he took that L. Hard, and it's not about like. My reputation. It's I fundamentally. No, there's things the audience will not by me. Right but I think that's why. The Mister Rogers throw was so successful for him. Because if you it's more it, it's referenced in the movie. It's referenced a Beautiful Day in the neighborhood, but in the documentary. It's very explicit that like his children don't really like us. They had a terrible relationship. They had a lot of problems with him as a father like he kinda was an asshole to like so I think that thing where he asked to play a little bit of both, but ultimately charmer wins. Yes, thing that he does best movies incredible because it's tying the hanks persona to the Rogers. Yes, also. Maryelle Heller interviewer. She said I couldn't make sense of how to tackle this movie. And then I read the script, and I realized Mr Rogers is the antagonised off the hundred percent. With him being the villain, he is the obstruction that seen in beautiful in the neighborhood where he starts taking out the toys to talk to matthew, rees is like a horror scene. Like. Stop it I'm not into. Like Tom Hanks is the same character in our culture. as Mr Rogers is in people who Mr Rogers in their culture. He is this this iconic nice man, but he is unknowable listened, and there's a Hillary's field around him, and we everyone who knows him could say he's a great guy I. Know Him, but like you don't know him. No one will ever know him and that is. That's why that casting was so great, because it is like if when there's a movie made about Tom Hanks, maybe there is one day it will have to be the same time slowly structure Abrasive. WHO's GONNA play Hank's Ansel, elgort joking tone. No I think. I think you're right, and obviously hanks's very effective.

"Would you please help me get back to Andy's room? Yeah sure. Get right on that. What we think is on. We haven't mentioned on. A also he's very very very especially this time period he is so in pocket of just like my favorite kind of character actor, and I put Heather Burns into this to where it's like you can give them one scene, and without stealing too much focus. They somehow find a way. Make everything interesting. They're both just kind of a neatly interesting as performers, their energies bizarre. Their voices are bizarre. Intelligent bizarre. It's like they know. They're both really good actors. The same year as out of sight which yeah awesome and. He's such a good foil to the to her. To Ryan's character to like, she needs to be grounded by people who are like living a real life, and these people are living a real life you know I. I had a falls Kazan like memory that Zahn and Burns ended up together at the end of this movie and watching it. I think I just want that to happen. I think I. Just did slash. Slash in my head. You also want Nevada ski and Parker Posey to get together like you saw me how you want them just to switch I. Remember that happening to in my I feel like we can just clear cannon that that probably happens so only gets a book. Deal and Parker Posey is of course in mixed nuts. She's the rollerblading along with John Stewart right, so she had worked with nor before. We're good friends like they were. Social could no make more sense to talk. Women have not seen mixed nuts since watching, listen to renting it with my family when soon after it came out, and everyone was like what the fuck was that and I. Never I was like Oh that be sucks. I gave it another thought various. This is when she's in this I feel like she's just fully the queen of Indie cinema right like she's been generation kicking screaming suburbia Bosca House. Waiting for Guffman that's all leading up to this, and I feel like it's still a novelty for her to be in a mainstream movie when she's. It's like Oh. Parker Posey like the coolest girl. If you guys haven't seen. The remake of high fidelity. TV Show, which is shockingly good. I don't even know how. Oh my this has no right to be good is literally should be against the law for it to be good tactic, and there's an episode. You could just watch this episode where Parker Posey is in it and she plays New York City upper west side woman who is selling her like shitty husbands records to them, and she is so good, and it really reminded me of this woman, if like the future of this woman whose name I'm now, what's her name? You've got mail with her. Character's name. All..

"Was like yes. Yes yes, to, and then he says. He's like Oh. I just love how immediately that doesn't work to think like, isn't it? The next scene birdies like. No No. No difference. No difference and then you basically just cutting to them at Stapleton's house. Where like well, the decision is no more store. It's too real. That is such a real thing, though like raising money for a cause and everyone getting fully around it, and getting so into it, and giving all their money, and it doesn't make a difference because a year later they're the same issue or nothing has changed. The economy hasn't changed like the situation hasn't changed, so it's just like. It is, it is actually a truly like a very compact lesson in that where it's like everyone's willing to rally around and does really care cannot focus their entire lives around saving this business that is no longer a business that can stay alive, and it's like ours are who's like I need to promote my book of course to do it at Fox books like that's more readers, right? There's a very earned. Earned cynicism and sort of lake, honest cynicism to the idea that S. oh, everyone loves the emotional idea. This store existing, but also everyone loves saving money on books and being able to get a coffee at the same time. As much as they're invested the idea of shop around the corner, they can opt turned on the convenience of Fox. Yeah, and just the idea that twenty two years on we miss borders. We love those Barnes and nobles that are still standing..

"And she's in. Jabbour? A Weird Sandra bullock. Good Luck charm because she's in like two weeks. Notice as well I think. She is yeah, you know who also so. Good. I know you're tell. Jean Stapleton but yeah. Well they're both. Would you say equal? They're both giving equal. KYW's because. I because I'm lady Gaga. Conic Album chromatic came out last night. We did a listening party for our fans, and we were listening to Gaga. A star is born. The end I was thinking about a star is born and I. Then I saw was watching this and I was thinking Dave Chapelle look so good in stars is born just incredible. What a great actor! And this was his first one of his early movies I. I would say for sure this and half baked or the same year. Maybe okay, he's so natural like I, don't they kind of put them in a weird place as a character like he doesn't. He's not quite fluid, flushed out, but he still so able to say things like call her hot many times. Call her say that she's not a dog so many times, and somehow it's like it's weird, but it's not the worst. No and I think like look. This is an ultimate example of Ed. Thing I'm kind of obsessed with it I. always bring up. On this podcast where big a list movie star cast up and coming actor twenty years younger than them to play their best friend to make them seem a little more modern. Encourage new. Yes, yes, yes, but very often very often. It is a person of color to make. Yes, see the white a-list star feel a little more hip as well totally. They're used for that sort of like modern cachet. Brain, but he is so good in this that somehow you actually Kinda by their friends, and like we kind of by Tom. Hanks's character doesn't really have a lot of friends. Only close his assistant. Guy Doing destruction. That's why rights so it's almost like it's not crazy that he'd be like working out with him at. Or wherever they not equinoxes, Priya KSFO, whatever watching the TV, or something like it's not crazy, but I did like watching. This made me wish and I understand the thousand. The bigger crazier things happen his career, he. Adjusted accordingly but I wish. He were in more movies, even if it was just a role like this or roll like stars born, he is such a good actor, and he talks about I, think his inside the actors studio how he didn't just want to be a standup who would then appear in movies and just doing his routine hell, he was like taking acting classes when he was eighteen years old, because he recognized that the standards were best in movies had an acting background were just I'm funny on stage on know how to do this. and Dave Paul has genuine chemistry Frank Chemistry with Tom Hanks here. It's just he's funny. I mean he is a really fucking still there. And a part that's not actually demanding that much of him. I also get a sense that Tom Hanks is very good at creating friend chemistry almost any person he's. Definitely, part of it I do think being at Tom Hanks is about the best. It's quite easily like. It's believable that both Tom and Meg Ryan wouldn't really have that. Many friends has her has her boyfriend and she has her coworkers. Co Coworkers and Birdie Genus. Her mom's best friend along the. visit. She has nothing, so she made on her own. Yes, that's what this movie is kind of quietly about right? It's like even though her life is so cute and she's got this great place. It's like she is kind of living this. It's like who is this person like her apartment? She probably inherited when she says nope. Maybe nobody will remember me, but people remember my mom and they loved her. Do you like? Dat is the leakiest sentiment? Oh My fucking God. This is my whole take I was saying this to Griffin last night. You've been talking about going through this Macer he's. It's like the Big Nora. Hits are the movies that think of is more like these sort of like lovely, slightly sappy kind of like. You know you know sleepless in Seattle. You've got mail Juliet Juliet right like. The right people to find each other what people think of as. From movies when they? Bomb, or the ones where she tries to go kind of acidic and like mixed nuts look. Over which you know, the ones that are closer to her writing as a humorist I mean the stuff that she owns right. This is kind of. I think the salty sweet movie. Of Be aware that these characters are all a little sad and like that the ending is nice. Sure they together, I, you know had hoped it would be you but like. Like I don't know it just feels like something sort of dying in this and there's there's a harder edge to their fighting than I remembered there being. A jerk shoot. He's an. Right yes, yeah, he's a total asshole. When he humiliates her like when he goes into the cafe and she's waiting and she just he just rips into her. Like that is probably the for listening. You could do to somebody. I could see. That's unforgivable in a way. You know it's why the ending is I. Mean Yeah, the ending. Is You got your your beautiful summer of the Rainbow covering happening? But she. Breaks down into tears because she's like Oh my God. You were so mean to me and I knew I wanted it to be you. I wanted it to you so badly, but you're such an like. It's sad. She's remembering all of these things like she's. Put a magnifying glass over like the sadness of her life. Yes, and she's like I mean. Thank God I have this. Happy Ending, but Oh my God. What a terrible reject! There's a version where she's like. We'll wait a second. Wait a second, so you stood up and then came and visited me to torment me like we just I'm sorry. Can we go through a couple of events before we kiss rake? She's crying, not because it's Himba because she wanted to be. talked. About being. Each other yeah, and think about the the kind of the the through line about niceness and meanness. It's like he's to mean. She's tuned Nice like teaching her to be mean and teaching him to be nice, and like like. How do we meet in the middle? But ultimately when they're both mean it's like it's not actually that Q. Like no one is really doing meanness in like the way that they think they're doing meanness. I think like hers. Snag, her clap, Bax, or like even worse than his original meanness in a way like I don't know especially because of the types of people they are, which is kind of both a little. Wanted to be like you know like in sleepless in Seattle I'm such a I wanNA. Play this as a little more of a jerk like. My read on this guy. I hope I think so we're going to. His hurdle to being mean as big, he has to really try. To be mean. Ten years later retrospective thing they talk a lot about the cafe lalo scene, which they're pretty much only three scenes in this movie because it really uses shop around the corner and play was based on and to later versions the musical and movie musical. It pretty much just use that as a springboard, it takes a lot of. New Directions from it, but there's three scenes that exists almost verbatim in all three movie versions, which are the seen with a friend, the Dacia Palestine..

"A quick return, a quick return from their last appearance, but it was when we recorded our last episode. They asked. Who are you doing for? The next two many series? We brought this up and they said Oh my God. We have to be on Enor- Ephron and we had in fact book someone else to do. You've got mail, but we realized no. We gotta do a swap here. We got a real table because this movie is so fucking important to the two of you and we knew that, and as we started talking about more, we realize even more layers to sort of the history. Both of you have with this movie collectively and separately. Our guests yeah turning. From the WHO weekly Podcast, bobby finger and Lindsey Weber the the one of the first projects pre who weekly that bobby and I ever worked on together was an annotated screening of. You've got mail at the housing works. Bookstore I don't know how we pulled it off. It had like pop ups. It had running around saying and had a raffle with items from Nora was right before Nora died, and she donated all these amazing items. We both have these signed. DVD's that I have gotten framed in my kitchen. It's like one of the most important events of my New York City life. And it made the movie even more like endeared to me personally I went to that it was a fully great event. Re watching the movie last night, I kept on going. Wait a second. How did they pull that off? 'cause the last time I'd seen the movie was at that. Really and I was remembering years ago years ago years ago eight years ago. It was Valentine's Day ish like day before Valentine's Day, two, thousand, twelve and Bobby. Why do you remember so specifically when that happened? Because it's the day I met my husband. Shell. Share host Josh Bills. The benches crazy in the after a screening of you've got mail they were. which that fact I didn't know until after we had finally made the swap. Bobby and Lindsey. Fuck and you've got mail is responsible for. It's like so on. It's a little too much. I don't even thinking about it to be honest. It's like. It's a little. It's like Oh, you're like! No, no, no! No it's so cute, and it's really like I worked with Josh peer pressured him as as well as my other coworkers including deserts. Of the ICONIC PODCAST book in One PODCAST, which made my way onto twice in. We'll do it again. His favor selective. It's favorite show in any media you go. You have to come to this. I hope people come to this like it has to be a big thing. Of You and Andrea Rosen and let me point out that it was. It was such a big thing that I remember I watched the entire movie from a staircase like it was. Read Stare Kes-. Yea, spiral staircase it got. It was just sell because of the movie and I think also Andrea is like. Andhra is. Good. Good at what she does. She. Still a producer and also. Ephron it was very easy to get press for this thing and I think I think it was. It even had little blurb as like something you'd do in the New Yorker like it was in the print issue so like it got the word out in ways we never expected because Andrea so good at like getting the word out and talking to people and knowing people. But also got a getting just random the call for artists that we just knew on Tumbler donate stuff that we can raffle off got the. coolest stuff we just reached out to Nora Ephron. Assistant, Out of the blue and said like. Does she want to come talk? That would be great because no one knew she was sick at this point, right? That's what I was. GonNa say CA. Member you making a point of the fact that like. She left things downstairs with her doorman. Picked up, but that you didn't get to meet her and she didn't come to the event. In retrospect, it became clear it was because she was very sick and fancy. Couldn't I had to go alone? And because we all sort of felt like. Oh, maybe maybe we'll look out and she'll be there and right handed to us. Ren No. They handed of big regret that I have. Is I. Throw away the bag that she gave all the stuff in. It was on because she gave us some old tote bags from the shoot. She gave us a lot of DVD's. She gave Lindsay and Andrea and I. Just? DVD's for ourselves, but it was. Like crew hats Cremona. "Her number one fan like I get it but also it does it also. I'm like commute ten more minutes or none of this like I'm not sure especially three is just about. Sebastian stands wedding like the thing. That's kind of striking when the movie is set up on like a a suicide attempt by her daughter calls a woman back home to the children. Abandoned Act one is all about her relationship with that child and Sebastian Sand and the other son are just kind of like only there for the dinner scene and they don't even want to engage with her then act to his her back home she does not speak to grace gummer between fuck. I did it again. She's not speak to Mamie. Gummer God all even notice at between when j law and she gets in the cab and walk on which point like forty. Five minutes have elapsed. We've also her character gets dropped but then when she's going to walk down the aisle as I mean I wish they maybe could have ended with a fight between her and maybe you know that tension and then she doesn't talk to her because is sort of for giving her work okay with her soldier so hugs. Thank you for coming. I really appreciate it. Why would you just go home without any type of fight? Yeah we're the I mean you said is. This movie edited weird. Like what's the deal with this movie as and and it makes me think like dropped not to not to give to give Diablo Code Atlanta interview tape the movie she has has this. You know this catalog of movies that if not explorer depression and mental illness pretty indepth like. Let's say totally again but like it stands to reason that this movie was more about Mamie being suicidal and the effects of like depression on this family and like her specifically coming and the conversation between Audra McDonald has this very knowing assessment of how treatment for depression works. And once you get that across. It's it's clearly trying to make a statement and led its audience under like. Let them know that it understands mental illness and yet it kind of just stops being about half. It's lacking specificity. Something was cut out or things were changed like I would like to see what this movie was originally was because I have a feeling it was something or at the very least just like sanded off too much. You know like it feels just a little too smooth and shiny said that. She based on her mother-in-law Rate Springfield swings. Cody sort of thing that like net. She never had inner wildest dreams. Meryl Streep wasn't in this movie got attached writings had to change right. So it's like she has not been writing. Sorry I'm fucking microphone theory. Goes I really? You're really silent over there. Freestyle my microphone on my. It is a movie where as you said David that it is based on her mother-in-law that her mother-in-law is part of a bar band that she would watch her play and go like I've never seen a movie about this person. This person deserves to be a movie and it stands to reason yeah. I think she mother-in-law did not abandon her child because her husband has a good really of anything she said is and as we've already talked about is that she was inspired by that as she's my mother herself and she works in the movie industry and like the standard double standard should perceived like men with kids. Yeah in the movie industry or you know they just jet off to wherever they're making their movie and they don't believe they're made about a man trying to decide between his love of his work and his love is you know and of course if Diablo goes off to make a movie and she can't see kids as much everyone would it be like Jane. She's hit it home ranking or whatever. She wanted to write about that. But to your point Lindsey. Like in wild rose. You know this woman's got the goods when she comes on stage. It is so clear to you. She has the events without holy. Shit pure talent this woman just but also find. The right person doesn't start singing until like twenty five minutes movie and we've seen that she's in jail so we get like she is genuinely huge. Fuck up yeah who you know blew it. You Watch the first twenty minutes of the movie and you're like this seems like the behavior of a delusional person that's ever GonNa make it. We don't know rain on it. Yeah the reveal of being really good. Yeah works so well in that movie and there's something like conceptually to the idea of. She's a leading a Bar Band. That mostly does cover. She's not even a songwriter. But you get the sense of what it gives her like how much she loves doing it where it's so clear that she cannot avoid. This is my friend Peter Jackson on the table. It is one of those like I fully believe holly not knowing how to use the microphone. How you believe the character. I don't usually use the much. Louder has the forty five minutes of this episode but tenure okay. Who's at the door take charge? I'm sorry could you repeat that? I'm looking for Richard Reid charts. Oh It's a marvel villain Dr do right right right. Lord of very. Oh yes sorry muffled. I'm wearing a Basque came. This is great High Reed Richards. Not here sorry this is blank check Griffin and David boy. What are you looking at Chad about? I've heard rumors that Reed Richards. Sure mister fantastic himself a man. Some of these people who straddle the strat on the line right. They're the only ones who can walk both worlds like Nick Cage Ghostwriter Reed Richards. Famously stretchy man is having issues with erectile dysfunction. Okay and you wanted to. He's afraid to talk to our Dr in good help him. You know. But I've given up. He won't listen to me. Forty percent men by age forty struggle from not being able to get to maintain interaction and they turned a weird solutions. They do nothing why they're afraid to talk to Dr Doctor. Sure or other doctors. They turn towards like expensive pills or injections where no man wants. An injection stay seven gestation supplements whereas they could just check out hymns. I said to you I was like her. MOCATTA has never been her last name. It's so confusing to hear her referred to as Camilla Makaay because as far as I my new professionally and she changed her name obviously but I thought she still went by Kimmel Alvis professionally. But apparently she doesn't anymore The the pattern like year something changed. Yeah something changed something changed. They've been married for eight years right along to be like ooh. The castles passes like Ha what. She's Brazilian English. As a second language she misspoke. That's all this that part. Isn't that funny. This is the part of today. Show that kind of shook me here. We go all right this morning on today. Food were starting New Year off right with fun and healthy recipes that your entire family can enjoy better to help us out than Camille. "How Good Laura dern and was and little women and then I saw and I just I can't help but think that she was just terribly miscast and bad in it? It's like she was all wrong and my friend was like she's to California for it and I think that that's absolutely right. Because she's come like she looks like they plucked her out of Venice beach and just plopped into Concord Massachusetts. And we're like here do this like it's so it's like she's he's about to leave the march house and go do yoga like she always seems like she's about to tell you that. CD oil works. You know like have you tried like like hemp extract. That's Ah that's what her whole characters. Maybe that would have helped. Do they ever specified any point. What Beth is actually suffering from scarlet fever? Yeah really. It's like like Jessica the fever. Well I knew that she gets sick and almost dies from scarlet fever catches it poor family or family and I didn't like that in the long term Ended up killing her because it came it comes back I guess I she gets better and then then she's fine and then she dies from it. I just thought it was survived this thing but now like you die die for some other reason. They could let meg and joe stay because they already had it before right right and so they were immune facts today had been you know. Nations didn't exist in but then any had to go to Paris because or live with Mrs March Miss March right right. He never had it. Yup in the book. There's very very dramatic moment. Where like a baby dies and Beth's arms? Oh the baby dies or yeah which. It's like a squirrel away line in the movie where the doctor's like bt dubs the baby died they and yeah they really like Got Away from that quickly anyway. Yeah it was a great film. I always just die. Yep spoiler alert a hundred and fifty years spoiler but yeah she does she does die. I Mike Controversial opinion which I told Barry after we saw together or was that like. I'm happy that Beth died better needed to die. Bet She's not she's nothing or her entire personality is that she's dying. She is in your weather's piano. She loves music. Also I forget the name of the actress who plays her Elisa. SCANLON ELISA SCANLON SCANLAN Love turn sharp objects She was terrifying in that. I tell Mama and it's hard. It's hard for me to see her as not like a haunted wanted Victorian puppet. I just feel like she like has that appearance of someone. I'm scared of and she. She's also like playing a seven year old. They're all I mean amy's playing the youngest florence piece playing the youngest one yeah. I forgot that amy was the youngest. I forgot to until Lindsey was like Ain is the youngest and I was like. Oh that's why Florence ars pews doing that but unlike works for her and I don't know the other I was just it was weird and also Beth is like I think that there's like a weird the the language didn't exist at the time but the way that it at least Greta Gerwig interpreted it. was that like Beth is very much like on the spectrum or something like she's very bad and social situation. Djelic makes eye contact with people like she's the quiet weird seemingly autistic person. Sure and I think that's sort of how she's playing it. which is especially weird? Whenever you're like twenty-three-year-old playing a thirteen year old like it's a little strange? It comes across as a weird performance right right and also it's like her but you're right. Her whole role exists exists so that she can die but then she inspires joe to write the book. I guess yeah someone did. Text me and say that they saw on interview with Elisa scanlon saying that she is the heart of the movie about.

"Yeah you're like a fucking Kennedy. You Yeah Eh. I Dunno anyway okay so this morning. Where the Twenty Twenty Oscar nomination announcement? What were your immediate reactions? The immediate reactions were everyone's immediate reaction. Yeah it seemed no Jennifer Lopez was the main one because that was the first category announced. Right No J.. Lo I there were a lot of there. Were a lot of snobs. Like Adam. Sandler didn't get nominated like uncut gems in like. I don't think anyone I think that would have been a really nice surprise. But I don't think anyone would put money on it John. I think that everyone really did earliest. ided earnestly expected Jennifer Lopez to get a nomination. I didn't really expect to win yet. I was like oh she'll be recognized in this way and she didn't. It really was shocking. Right like aquafina would have been a nice surprise. But I don't know that I was in certain she was going to get best actress. Yeah but like it was Kinda a senior Greta. GERWIG was a lock for best director. She didn't get anything right. kind of seem like hustlers might get up. Sometimes they do when they when they don't want to give it a lot of other things. Install just like throw it a best pie ever since they were like you can have unlimited best picture nominees like throw in a something like the farewell. Didn't get anything right up. Hustlers didn't get best picture and I thought that was Kinda surprising. No Women Invest Director Right. What was the other big snap? I don't know who else I mean. Beyond say didn't get the nomination in for Lion King. That's weird that's weird which yeah for. Best original song should say not Second Time She's written a song for a movie with a lot of buzz behind it and then it didn't win. I think dream the Dream Girl Son got nominated but it didn't win right. Listen listen yeah yes gets on. I love less. And Yeah. It's one of my go-to Karaoke songs now. But it's SORTA like the beyond say thing is surprising to me because you would think that fundamentally like yeah the Oscars the Oscars of men the Oscars of white people. And like you would think people would want to recognize beyond safe for her skill but like the cynical side like wouldn't you at least want to nominate her just to get like butts and seats to get people watching your show because there's a chance beyonce could win. Like just was down to like the money. Why wouldn't you throw it beyond saying nomination right? You know. It's good for business. Yeah happy on say attached to your thing I guess so I mean I think for beyond say sake. I'm glad that they didn't do that. Because that is always like as beyond say Stan. It's always like oh you're just throwing her or this bound. It's like if you're going to nominate her. She better fuck you better win so she could get her. Yeah yeah she doesn't know does she know I. I don't think she has has had shaking violently in the other room. I think she only has a G. I don't unless did homecoming win an emmy. No it didn't that that was a big thing. Went over homecoming. It's so stupid. Yeah now coming not winning the emmy is I think so much more tragic than the the lion king. Yeah I was GonNa Remember that Song because I do during the Golden Globes. I tweeted something about That Elton John should give be on on say the grammy. Yeah and there's a lot of there's lot of Elton stands. Apparently who are who are. Yeah Terron Edgerton. He's a who do but he won. The he won the Golden Gopher best actor and he didn't get a nomination. How're Elton? Yeah what point do you become. Not a WHO in terms of award STU awards words matter at all I think they matter a little bit and the Oscars matter more but like sir. Sharon's been nominated for four Oscars and I'd still cholera only. Because anytime you see her name if you don't know that that's her it's like who the fuck is that if you don't know what it is then like alarm bells go off and you're like I don't don't know what to do with this word. I don't know what to do with this name. I don't know who this is. Yeah but I think I don't know I don't think the roles necessarily make you in the stories behind them. Make you in like like the Jennifer Lawrence thing was as was nowhere near like sir. She has already had four Oscar. Nominations Jennifer Lopez had on was only her second that she won for and Jennifer Lawrence was definitely a them when she was on her way up to win the second one on Lake. Sergio wasn't bit because she Jennifer Lawrence had like the movies. Were bigger like the stories behind them are bigger like those movies just had more of a narrative behind them. Insertions movies are always like kind of smaller. Mahler indies. It's all it wasn't until maybe lady bird that she had a little bit more stuff and now little women as a more of a big studio movie right and I feel like maybe her next one lia bigger thing because he's not going to keep getting these nominations forever we've got we've got searching for the long haul right but I think that it's she's been in small movies ladies there. There is definitely that class. I don't know what you would what you would call it of like actresses that though just nominate for anything. You Happy Bates has. I mean. It's like Legend Status Merrill Kathy Richard Jewel like who Richard like what. I thought that we we came out like three years ago now but that was a different movie about someone name. Richard I think rich Aquafina I would say of Aquafina. AQUAFINA was snubbed. Sure I would say that the everything around her. It's being like this. Cool story dislike comedian. What the weird name suddenly gets cast in one of the big most hype comedies of last year with this huge ensemble somboon cast and then she gets put in one of the biggest indie movies of this year that everyone loves? That's like the narrative that makes them more quickly. AQUAFINA is arguably them already. But Sir Shas just sorta crawling along that. She's just but she's crawling so well she's good crawler. It's a good crawl for her. Also Lupita Olympia very weird. I thought she would get a nomination. I still haven't seen US T- be a part of us. Yeah I don't it just seemed a little little too scary for me but it's funny though it's like it's like it's like it's it's it's not it won't like rescue. It's good. I got through mid summer so you can get through mid summer. You can get through us. Okay yeah midsummer which is like the whitest movie ever also. Yeah Eddie Murphy. For dolemite is my name. I haven't seen that yet jam. Yeah well I know you're also a huge little women fan big little woman and Fan. I've seen it three times right right. I was following along. The you had a little bit of This is stupid. I know what you're going to say and I regret getting uh-huh like an alternate universe thing where you thought they. They didn't show thought it was a title card. I watched it home twice on screeners and then I wanted to see it in theaters. He's just because I wanted to see it in theaters and I saw it with two friends who had not seen it yet and I specifically and the only reason I tweeted that thing about me noticing them not putting the title card in the opening little women. 'cause it starts with a title card that looks like the site of an old book a little women with like l. m. alcott underneath it. I know the end of the movie. Elliot shows the same book but it says J. March and it's like a fun little thing right and I told my friends watch out they're gonNA show title car. Just pay attention to what it says. The only reason I even said this is because I was looking for it right. Everyone's like you blinked in. It's like no no no I was paying attention it. It wasn't the first one was not in the cut that I saw. I swear to God they only showed the one at the end. Yeah and so it was the dumbest. It was such a stupid thing that I tweet it and it was. I've never gotten this many response. I think that's why it kept popping up my mind I saw it in Des Moines. It was in mine. I saw it in Fort Lauderdale. It was a mind everyone I saw it. I saw it. I thought I saw it. I thought and people like you must have blinked and it was like again when you are being told that you are wrong and you know one one hundred ten percent you are right I was like why did I. It was worthless things another twenty five cent missy. Man It was I. I will say having seen that twitter. I won't call it a rant. That twitter remark about the waste of time is what it was. Yeah when I saw little women yesterday Saturday I saw Yeah I was I was looking out for it so if you did anything you you definitely kept my eyes open for the title card. I just think that at that movie is the first time you see it can be a little jarring because the time jumps on the structure. It's very all over the place. Yeah initially it. There's a learning learning curve to it right the second and third times. It's just so great. It's so smartly. Done and I think that that that title card has just like one of the indicators of that and so I was. I think it's very. It's very easy to me to watch that title card and I did not see that there and I swear to God it was not on the print Clinton is also. Please don't call me a liar because I'm not I wouldn't dare online Yeah no I I loved it. I think it would have been the time. Drums would have been a little jarring me. Had I not read the book just before hand. I'd never. I had no idea what the story of little women was. I only vaguely knew. So the like big spoiler has now one hundred fifty years old breath dies. I only see. I haven't read the book. I've only seen the ninety four movie with Susan Serandon. Yeah I hadn't even read that or I haven't even seen that. Yeah that's the only Lindsay's like a huge little women had and so having heard her talk about the movie and the way like I had already basically been prepped. Going into it right like what to expect. I knew the beats and I knew the way that it was different from the book. And the way it was different from the old movies and Blah Blah Blah right. I knew it to look for but I still loved it. Loved it loved it loved it loved it and I think the most the most jarring part for me and I think Listening to you. And Lindsey talk about it on who weekly I think you agree sorry I heard the way that maybe it there's a couple episodes ago it was one after the Golden Globes But Laura dern just takes me out of little. I've listened as as a gay I I feel like I'm legally obligated to support Laura DERN TAT to her face on my chest even though I don't hate her so I won't say she's my thing that I hate that everybody else loves but I just don't I don't quite get the Laura dern obsession And yet little women I I was just like I don't know this is not the person listen. I was picturing. Yeah she's she's all wrong for that role. I think I should just weird. It's weird and I my friend of mine. Put it better than I ever could. Cause I it was after I saw it and I was texting about it and I was like I don't under an I and I was like I feel weird because everyone was talking. How Good Laura dern and was and little women and then I saw and I just I can't help but think that she was just terribly miscast and bad in it? It's like she was all wrong and my friend was like she's to California for it and I think that that's absolutely right. Yeah you walk around more here like in taxes you go from your air conditioned house to your condition car to your conditioned office ray out here walking all over the place. Yeah I know I fully agree. I mean you came to the right place. Go 'cause I'm trying to get better at it. I feel like this last summer was the first one where I was like. I am like trying to embrace summer. I'm trying to make the most of it. Yeah but it's just never. It's never as good as I wanted to. And I and I I have some friends Lindsay Mike Who Weekly Co host loves the beach and she has a car too so going to the beach is very easy for her. Yeah so she. I always like weekly beach trips over the weekend to therese and I sometimes tag along and I tell myself I'm GonNa will myself to enjoy summer. I'm going to try to find the things in the heat and the outdoors that I can you know latch onto it. Never works I try and it I I give it my best shot. It doesn't work. Yeah I do think my my relationship with sweating is the biggest part of why I hate summer and I think this year I finally was like you know what I'm just going to accept. That will be sopping shopping. Wet by the end of this five minute walk and once I get past that it's fine. Yeah so you sent us a couple of other things that you have on your mind. One is going to the doctor and going to the doctor. It's annoying yeah. That's very top of mind where you're after this after we're done here I'm going to the doctor. It just a physical. which is I like? The doctor generally sure but I think okay. I'm a as a HYPOCHONDRIAC. I think I find the doctors very comforting. But I guess my might very specific complaint about this. I don't know whom to get. Oh I like my doctor. I like my nurse Practitioner. Sure her name is sorry. I love her and sometimes I don't get sorry and I'm like well I don't want anything to do with this and I can't tell this person I don't want you to look at me. I want you to treat me so you don't know who you're it again. It says I'm going to get an earth practitioner. I say I think it's probably about fifty fifty chance and I'm very nervous. Yeah I want to be able to pick the nurse nurse practitioner. Then I want fair fares very dumb complaint. No I mean I was saying I also just went to get a physical blow but because I'm currently in between insurance I had to be like it was a fuck up on my end. I didn't renew my insurance and now after wait for the end of the month you've for it to kick it again but I had to go in order to get some prescriptions and I literally had to say to the nurse practitioner like do not do anything to me. They do not have to do. Don't touch me it. Just look at me. Here's what I one. Who because I knew that they would charge me? Yeah but it's a weird relationship. The nurse Practitioner Turner. A tweet. I think about a lot is that there was someone tweeted like years ago about feels a friend of mine who cares it was like I can't believe I have to exercise and eat healthy all the time for the rest of it was like someone and I think about that in those terms frequently but also with the doctor. It's like I have to just keep checking in on my body until I'm done with the body right. I just have to keep doing this maintenance forever until running check INS does not go very well and then uh-huh I mean yeah true. Yeah the other one are also very sympathetic. This is don't remember your coffee. Few shops credit card policy. Okay here we go. That's good I K- I forgot. I wrote that down so yesterday I just moved And and I used to live next to the best coffee shop just the best coffee shop in the hallway world Shir loved. It loved everyone who worked there. Love the coffee. Whatever moved this new place place that sort of in a coffee shop desert? There's may be two options that are within the same walking distance to my old place. One of those weird and I don't really love it okay. One one of them's one block away. It's overpriced and it's it's a little weird but it's good. It's good coffee like it's good coffees just all over. And they have up credit card policy. Where it's if you if you spend less than five dollars they at twenty five cents to your bill as a credit card fee? Okay so right and it says. It's an a teeny tangles Cheetah paper next to the thing Anna. Usually that means credit card debit card. Debit card is exempt from that. Because they don't have to pay the credit card debit card right. Maybe eight times out of ten when I use my debit card. They don't add the twenty five cents but every once in a while they add it and I don't know why they add it and so I- confronted them on Saturday because I paid for my four dollar and twenty five cents. Whatever coffee the credit card and I know how much it is? It's always the same price when I go. And there was another twenty five cents on it and I was like okay and I looked at the screen and I was like I have question so so which is probably a burritos. Worst Nightmare I've question so why is it that sometimes when I use my debit card I get the twenty five cents Added and sometimes I don't and she goes. Oh you always get it at it and I was like oh well I I always like what do I say. It was like what I always. Let's get the same thing and sometimes it's this price and sometimes it's not and she's like no it's always added that's not even a that's outside of our control that's the PS system the clover pos system. That adds. I felt fucking out of my mind I was like I know that I pay a different price. Sometimes four fifths of the time I pay another price. Why did I just get charged? Twenty five Cents Right I. I'm so angry over this twenty. I don't get it then I'm putting this dumb ass place where I looked like a huge asshole brought it up but it's like it needed to be gone up. I don't get it. Yeah it gets out though. One of the most frustrating things about being live live. which is how do you when you like? No you're right. How do you tell someone like no? You're wrong without being I was told by Apple. Care woman you know like how do I cross this line without co how do I approach the line without crossing the line right right and I feel elect did a pretty good job but also you know there's a line of people behind me and they're probably like what's this fucking house this person's problem. Yeah I don't know how I'm just theory bad in that situation and I and now I can't stop like was I mean I wasn't probably handled it fine. Yeah but I know I'm right. Here's the thing I know I'm right. Yeah you're also talking to someone who like regularly just I. I feel like I'm giving away money to companies all the time for no good reason I have. I really need to like go through the amount of things that I subscribe to like twice by accident and just continue to pay. I think think is at least one and I think I pay for spotify twice. I need to verify that six apple news subscription. There's some things that you just like. Go at this point. It's like I'm subscribed to so many things. How how am I one person supposed to keep track of all of them you are you are every you know CEOS dream? I asked what they want. Yeah I've gotten so I know people do the calculation of like should I subscribe to cable or should I get like one of these subscription services and add all of these channels on and my two solution I guess is just both is all you have cable plus all the things. Yeah if three Disney pluses have only because at some point. It was one of those things where it's like it's cheaper to have cable. Aw in like the package Internet and a phone line for some reason and have the phone line you really are. They're they're always trying to get me to add the phone on. I would love to have an actual fell. I wish there was a device that I'm sure there is a vet where I can plug my phone into it and then like us a corded phone. I know that there's like a thing that you can plug into your headphone Jack Mia. But that looks stupid. Like you want a full like you want the classic phone right on on your you know the table in the kitchen your parents house. Yeah the office leg you have like a phone office and it has like the little board on it with all of the number and that's how you WanNa make your phone calls. Yeah to either places to make more subscriptions to thing it feels more official to. Hbo Go and HBO now or the same something. And you're like I need both of them. I don't think I have both of those. I don't know I have to verify it. What I'm saying is that I see your twenty five cents? Listen I raised you. Several months of subscription service that I have twice. So that's my that's my issue. Yeah that is frustrating before we talk about the Oscar nominations I also I do want to talk about Chet Hayes okay. I do too 'cause I I was listening to you so The episode of who weekly were you and Lindsey talk about chat Yeah for for those who are unaware. Chad hey is the One of the spawn of Tom. Hanks Rita Wilson I went to college with him. One of those people. Oh you did. Yeah I am the night of the Golden Globes when when Chet was sort of making making a thing I have a an email from Chad. Hayes it is it an Agni dot northwestern dot com. And it's as someone texted us. This Chester Marlin. Hanks texted the two thousand two biology science one zero three zero class April Thirtieth Two thousand twelve twenty twelve. SP by all SI- one. Oh threes or that lecture notes. What's up everybody? I know you're busy so I'll keep it short. Does anybody have good lecture notes. They can send me. Ideally I'm looking for notes all lectures but specifically just spiders insects right now. I e what's going to be on the quiz tomorrow anything you have. It'd be much appreciated. Thanks Chad hanks did you get that email. where you on this email? No I I was. I was at school then but I was not in a biology class. That was my senior year. Does seem like the type who wouldn't go to class. No my one chat memory. Well well I guess there were a few but one the one I remember most specifically was we were in a history class together and it was a small lecture hall. It was maybe like seventy five people enough enough where it was like an hour and a half lecture and he got up in the middle of it stood up to go over stuff left and came back fifteen minutes later with a Frappuccino. Aw Let sat right back to. That's amazing and I just love. I love that. It was a Frappuccino Because there's like no actual caffeine gene. Like I just thought he just needed a break. And it's also the drink that takes the longest to get at starbucks and requires the loudest materials right right for like the most dramatic. Reveal too but anyway. So you guys were you were you were talking about Chacha. Hey is would you call him absolutely. Yeah Yeah I think a big category gory of who is the spawn of celebrities. Sure especially when they don't really have jobs like chat. It's one thing if you know you're the child of a really famous this person and then you go into the business of your famous parent or something. But it's like chat has tried so many things that it sort of. It's like Arnold Schwarzenegger son Patrick. Ya like. Wanted to open restaurants. Then he wanted to be a mon on then he tried like all these things. It's confusing and the same thing's happening with chat where it's like. I want to be a rapper. Nobody also so wanna act but also maybe I just WanNa do my own thing and then he had his own like personal drama that got its own separate headlines like there were so there are so many things involving him. mm-hmm right that he's kind of hard to pin down. I forgot about Arnold Schoenberg I. I don't think I've ever really said the name out loud but yeah I will never forgive his son Patrick for wearing jeans to the Matt Gala this year. Oh yeah that was bad. It was because the theme was camp and everyone was like he thought it meant like literally Cam and he dressed like a fucking cowboy. That's probably what he thought and now he's a motivational speaker on instagram. I think thank is. I don't know I thought something in my explore page Scotties with similar stuff on his instagram. Clint Eastwood son where he like. You know about positive thinking or whatever he's very into crystals and things like that right. Yeah it's it's never not jarring when I when I pop up in my head. I don't need to find it right now. Oh yeah all right. I found Hatrick. It's yeah this is Patrick and he has like a whole. This is how how to train your mind. The lack of self awareness that these people have where it's like. Here's how you can live life better. And they refuse to acknowledge the fact that like one way to live life better to be the child of a really really famous. Yeah not really have to go to school also..

"Get out of my house uh-huh The Guy Does yes. So they're always like gathering at sports bars and screaming at the TV. That's what sports bars are a hub of heterosexual terrorist activity. You know where else that happens. Where my fucking upstairs neighbor every every single? I like no football schedules. Now because every single football game he brings his friend over just one friend and then they blast music and it shakes the wall. And I think that's why the rats are moving around so I'm just like Oh my God I don't know it's generally fucked up that like when I hear a blood curdling scream. Scream coming from my neighbor's apartment. I have to be like. Oh someone getting murdered or do I have to check the sports schedule. Yes see what's happening.
