"So if you want hopefully humorous content sometimes informative and knowing content come find me. On twitter I will I will absolutely vouch for that. You were very good on twitter your time how is hit or miss? On twitter and do the best I can I try to live up to field and I got a few years? I'm a little younger than field I'll learn. You'll learn Matt tagged us on twitter at fantasy focus. He wants to know who's the lead back in Tampa Bay. This is a hilarious question not it's a serious question but is hilarious and I know that you can speak to why this is hilarious because yesterday. Bruce Arians came out strong supporting Ronald. Jones, he's the guy everybody else's fighting for job yeah. Matthew should we believe him? You know and I WANNA give a shout out I'm trying to. Why no yeah, exactly. So like. So a a woman that I follow on twitter Michelle MAG DIZZY AC I'm. Sorry Michelle I'm sure I just. Messed up your last name but at ball blast him at ball blast him. So a Michelle posted a very funny bunch of screen shots of Bruce Arians Ronald Jones last year. Okay. I've different tweets say Jones in different in in different interviews last year a bruce. Arians. Again, talking up Ronald Jones and so it's just all very Very. Agreeing salt. Yes. It's taken with a grain of salt. We've said this before the lead back in the Tampa backfield is going to be who Tom Brady trust the most, and we don't know who that is yet. That's bottom line that when Tom says want back there that's who's going to be back there and we don't know who that is yet. Kyle. But I was drafting today I. Think Rojas. Probably the best flyer at the moment. Yeah. But I'M NOT MAKING A. Major investment too many good wide receiver, a hundred percent. Jay wants to know how safe you feel and SAQUON number two overall player ahead of the more consistent Zeke. The. Both Star I was GONNA say I don't I safe your at safe I guess. I have saquon number two I. Think we saw rock bottom for Saquon last year and he's still in a points per game basis was like a top twelve player at the position. So I feel it's a very, very safe selection I think there's more upside as well for Saquon Zeke only because although Zeke is a great pass catcher to the giants may need take one to have ninety one catches like he did as a rookie I, am a I am high on the giants offense as a whole this year especially relative to ADP sake ones obviously the only exception there but I believe Daniel Jones I believe. Sterling Shepard Evan Ingram Golden Tate dairy slate, and they're all values at current ADP right now Sake, one's going to get a massive workload once again, he's insanely talented running back and it's going to be a good offense that's going to be throwing because once again, they will be down. I don't think their defense is improve very much. What else do you have already we're taking a look at auction leagues. Now, wondering if you're going stars in scrubs and twenty twenty or because of the Cova, the concerns are you going more of a balanced approach when building your lineup? I'M GONNA stick with my usual, which is more stars in scrubs. How about you? Same thing again, replacement value after you get at a certain level. Like if I was approaching a salary cap league like that, what I would do is I would want to spend up big for running backs. I would be okay I'd maybe I would probably spend. I would either spend a lot to get one of the elite tight ends or go cheap tight end. I would. I would probably spend to get one good wide receiver and then I'd be like, okay. There's going to be a couple of five dollar wide receivers or something like that. Depending on your again, a budget that I could be absolutely fine with and quarterback I would go cheap as well. I think the issue with going more balanced approach in in just in general and and auctions is pretty simple. You don't really get the target the people you WANNA target because you're sort of waiting for everybody else. To use the majority of their spendings on players that you probably like right you're not gonNA get saquon Barkley with taking a balanced approach, you're going to get Michael Thomas a balanced approach. It may be that you're going to be sort of choosing from players that you view as tier two and two tier three fantasy options this year and you have to decide if you can settle the fat. So as always tend to go star scrubs, right because the elite guys are what win it for you. After you get past a certain level, those all sort of the same, the difference between you know. Again, as we sorta just pointed out right the difference between a wide receiver that's going at fifteen wide receiver that's going at thirty five might be like somebody like tyler, Boyd like isn't that much. So yeah. All right. One more here. The last question from Christie wants to know who do you have is a wide receiver one in Houston this season and why? I'm going to say the number one wide receiver again, it just sorta depends on sort of Drafi will fuller to me is the guy with the most upside and so when you get to that point draft your sort of swing for the fences and a little bit. So we'll fuller would the guy from me but don't be surprised if it's Brandon Cook. So I think is really interesting. Printing cooks obviously had a loss season Los Angeles, but he's A. Guy That had four street thousand yard season. I think people are forgetting especially moved around a lot in his NFL career for some reason but Brennan Cooks has been a very effective NFL player throughout the majority of his NFL career. He is bizarre. He's Tobias Harris of the NFL he is good enough that a lot of teams want him, but he's not good enough that teams absolutely have to keep them. This is reminding me of the bengals question we just. Had Aj green or tyler boy and I agree with your assessment there you're swinging for the fences will fuller if you're looking for.

A Native Bee-nanza!

"I, think of myself as the the bridge between the plants in the pollinating insects sign trying to. Really Delve into the habitat and plants that are supporting our native bees in particular but also some of the other secondary insects that are doing some colonization as well. And where did this come from I? Mean were you always a nature? Person were always a plant person or was it like more interested in insects than than it? All kind of came together later on. bengals certainly focused more on the plant world in on the last fifteen years working restored clam communities, and even just in gardens that had been converted to mostly native plants. I really started to see a lot of patterns and just the difference in insect diversity so that really kick starting my interest in insects again, and basically I went down a rabbit hole after that never came out. have been trying to learn more about our pollinating insects in their specific interactions and it's that you know I'm pretty observant person. So just seeing you know year after year the same sort of visitation patterns between particular inspecting eight of plant that. That's sort of what stimulated me to write my first book. You know just start documenting some of these interactions in an interesting pollination ecology bits two about plants and how they may be tricking or. On eating. Insects. To. To their flowers. I love that the power of observation in it's something I see everywhere I've moved if I set up a garden or helped friend set of gardens, it's palpable. You really do notice a difference year after year especially, if you start using more native plants in a variety of native plants at that, you start to release pick out like you said these associations and I know anecdotes don't data, but it is very powerful to see the difference between what a lawn was like versus even the smallest Garden Patch can make in terms of insect diversity. Yes exactly. I. Mean I look at my neighbor, for example, who has over a half Acre of lawn and I. You know you can't still anecdotal of course but. As you just said the obviously I have a lot more going on in my garden that's just chock full of native plants versus his half Acre of one. So and I think that's what's the most encouraging inspiring thing about it is yes are small native gardens in urban or suburban areas. A may be attracting sort of generalists or you know a general amount of on eating insects, but it's still quite diverse and in pretty fascinating and and you can find some some rare species in gardens is just a case again of of looking hard for them in and documenting them. For. Sure. Yeah. It's again. It's one of those things like I'm a plant person I like bees, I like insects. I know almost nothing about them. So I often go outside in have no idea what I'm looking at and unless it becomes like super prevalent or if it's the case of lake, are milkweed stem Beatles right now and they're destroying all of our queens that I don't you know it takes me time to learn this stuff but you shouldn't be going out just aim at collecting the rarest of the rare to your landscape. Even just like you said, having a generalist suite of pollinators is an incredible step up from that half Acre of law next door. Right, right it's your garden is is functioning in providing good service. and. Then of course, the other important piece in many people don't realize just we had this huge diversity of be the loan in North America and and they all have different needs. They all have different seasonal phonology. So understanding how we are stewards of the land in how may be impacting our garden maintenance practices for example, all those things come into play when people start to realize they are attracting different. Sour. Visiting insects in you know they may all be nesting in different situations even in a garden

"The bengals were obviously downtrodden all year last year his close personal friend, Andy? Dalton gets bent music because one of his best friends I think in the world, it's getting benched like there was a lot of factors working against Aj green returning last year and I'm not if. You ever got benched gates. I want you to know that I would sit out the year with an injury. But. But not to suggest that he's actually he's not fudging injury but I would just say that there are times we're gonNA play. I'm not accusing him of anything I'm just letting I'm just letting the world know. Personally, I would fake one but I'm saying like guys have the right like if they're close if they're close to a contract or something like if they want to wait and preserve their body like we get that spare Christian. McCaffrey out of a bowl game like because he wanted and it was great it was he's a trailblazer right? Guys have to make business decisions sometimes this year I think it's a different mentality for AJ green he's one year away from getting paint as he was last year but now he realizes if he didn't play this year, what team is going to say all right. It is like, Hey, let's let's sign A. J. Green after two and a half years away from football to a lucrative deal the age of thirty two but not going to do that green is motivated this year to realize he has a chance to go ahead and make that money that he will only get one more time in his career. He's thirty two. You don't get long term contracts for a wide receiver at the age of thirty five. Or thirty six. So I am more confident in Aj Green this year by Award Mar wide margin than I was going into last season and that's coming from somebody who drafted Aj Green in the war room league. Yeah. He did not help you out in that league. He did not help you Harrington out at all. I. Don't know. But yeah, I don't disagree and so right you have you have AJ green higher than buoyed by two spots were flip-flop. Again. It just sort of like but even with. He's still a risk I'm with you like. Tough it out and like he's got a different mindset of course. But this is the guy that's missed a lot of time over the last few years and he is thirty two years and I, get. This game with emotion and I understand the people that say you know what? For the past couple of years I've been burned by AJ Green I'm not doing it again this season have had that if he stays healthy, he's been a top seventeen fantasy wide receiver important when he plays when he plays his great. To anything else that you want to add in here on the Injury Front Aj Green or Tyler board otherwise want to say thank you for the Plus analysis as always Now I think you're. Echoing pretty much my thoughts on Aj Green as well. Personally rooting for him because there aren't many guys who rehab harder than he does and he looked phenomenal for the few plays. We saw him in training camp last year before he got hurt again. You're the best we thank you. We'll talk to you again tomorrow. Hopefully, you continue to have power in your home during that time. Before, we wrap up the bengals matthew just of the Non Aj Greens last tyler boy pass Catcher, Ta Gins any of those guys just ten seconds you have a late round flyer you like. The only flyer I like is just in dynasty. Leagues. I. Just WanNa. Bring up Trayvon Williams. The SEC in rushing. Like Giga Maggie's tech saying I think he's a very talented running back in that if Joe Mixon were to move on after this year, I think they just talk with some people around the bengals organization. They like Trayvon Williams quite a bit. He didn't get on the field very much last year, but he's a talented running back and. Just name the file away for for Dynasty Leagues. T Higgins as well but I think he's again. There's only so many mouths to feed for dynasty. If age agreed does walk after this year, he'd be an interesting name to keep an eye on. He would certainly be do you have any interest at all in cj who? Will Tyler I for moving on? I do not. Fair enough the t the tight end spot you know they they drafted drew sample last year in the second round, not particularly interested in either of those players are hiring is challenging, but there's one place you can go..

"You're like you're like. Drinking from a fire. I'm apple. Ramp Myself Up I. was I can't take a nap on your show. That's for sure. I want to demonstrate something because there's a saying at least in Hollywood I'm not that far from it even though we're all isolated. It's better to show than to tell so. I'm going to demonstrate something far. Listeners in for you about how to be more influential. One of the things unfortunate to do is i. On on break now, but I breakfast would Larry King every day. Although we're doing zoom calls now and something. I've noticed about Larry because Larry eighty-six. He's still going strong. Still has a show. It streamed call Larry King now on home on the on the Internet and something I've noticed what has made Larry's such an icon. Is. Here's A. Plus after. and not a minus sir, and not a topper. What that means is when he listens to people. He adds to what they're saying. He doesn't a minus it he doesn't. Get Defensive. He doesn't give advice. He doesn't give unsolicited advice on his shows, so nobody's afraid. They're going to get a GOTCHA. And he's not a topper. If you say I if you say Oh, I went to the mountains, he he's not going to say oh. That's very nice. You know we went to Europe. And, so I'm going to be a plus to something. You just said I. Hope this will add value. You're listening because you mentioned something about training and I was thinking as you were talking about and I'm. And I'm reminded of a fellow named Dan Sullivan. Dan Sullivan found something called the strategic coach and part of what Dan said is what life get comes down to his habits. Happy People have different habits than unhappy people. Successful people have different habits than unsuccessful people. And he said what a habit is is it's a discrete piece of behavior that you repeat over and over again until it becomes a habit. And it takes about a month, and in other words you train on that and you repeat on that takes discipline, but over time you internalize it, and it becomes more natural, and then you can learn another habit now why this is important under stress because I'm am a psychiatrist, but I'm also a passionate about neuroscience. Is. What happens is when we're under stress and who isn't. We have you've all heard of your adrenal glands? And what happens is your adrenal guns. Put out something called Cortisol. High Cortisol is high stress and what happens is your high cortisol triggers something in your brain called your middle and Migdal as part of your emotional brain, and when that high cortisol goes up. What happens is it triggers a migdal hijack and what that means. Is Your Migdal shunts blood away from your thinking brain. Into your survival brain and guess what taps into your training. It will tap in to what you've been trained to do almost automatically. Do you think NBA stars when. They think between shots. No, it's training and they've been trained. What what's the saying? It May Have Been Stephen, Covey senior, or someone said you need. What is it ten thousand? What does it take to be come an expert? He said was at ten thousand hours. As a ten thousand hours or know that's probably more training in many of us however. Yeah thousands of hours. Thousands of hours and what happens is you become an expert at it, so you don't even have to think when you're faced with a situation, so I can't emphasize what Jay is saying. Strongly enough train train train train so that you have many many options, no matter what something whatever is. Facing you years ago I, was a fan of tiger woods during his heyday, and it was interesting when someone asked him. How do you play around the Gulf? He says. I've hit every shot possible ten thousand times, so he's an expert in every shot. He said every time I hit a shot. I don't race ahead I. don't worry about it because I know. I've trained and hit whatever SEAN I'M GONNA face. Ten Thousand Times and he says what I do is i. just you know, have a nice walk dot, breathe and feel okay. Don't worry I get on top of the shot I. Look at where I'm GonNa next hit it I know I've hit it at ten thousand times. I look at the ball and I. Just say one word execute. And so I love what you're saying about. The Training Training Training and And I know for a lot of listeners. In these times you're overwhelmed. OVERWHELMED WITH! I can train and I'm just trying to make it through the day. I'll tell you another bit of training. That I learned from a friend of mine. His name was Bob. ECKERD he was the CEO of Mattel. And I asked I asked Bob. How do you deal with stress? and. I'll tell a quick story if that's okay, sure absolutely story. So he told me. He said that before he wasn't Mattel and he's left Mattel. Now is an investment company, but he really turned mattel. Ron Big time. And he said before that he was the CEO of Craft in Chicago and when he started at kraft, he was I may president of the cheese division. And in two months time, the dairy prices went up. And so craft, Gary. Prices went up, and then they went down, but it was written into the bylaws of craft that they didn't lower their prices, so the independence lowered the prices when the prices went down, but kraft didn't. And he had no say over that he was just the president of the division. He unwritten all the protocols, and so the newspaper there was all these headlines. Heads are GonNa Roll at craft. It's going to be the end of craft. Because Cheese was a big division biggest. Division. And he told me he said you know. I was just in a funk and staring. Into the TV screen on a Sunday and the. Coach of the Cincinnati Bengals Sam Wash. And taken the Bengals to the Super Bowl two years earlier, they'd lost, but he took him to the Super Bowl. But this year they had lost ten games in a row. And Bob said I'm just staring at the TV. And the report says to. Sam, so Sam. What are you GONNA do. You're going to be fired on Tuesday. What do you think about that? and Bob said it was as if he was speaking to me. Sam Weiss looked out on the television and said. You know what I'm going to be fired. On Tuesday I know I'm going to be fired on Tuesday. Everybody knows I'm going to be fired on Tuesday But, that doesn't matter. What matters is what can I do between Sunday and Tuesday to make the Bengals a better team? So what Bob adapted I think it's a great philosophy to get through stressful times, and he used it to get through rough times at Mattel. Is. He said before he goes to bed. He says to himself, and he writes down. What can I get done? That's different. Than what can I do, but what can I get done by the end of tomorrow? To Make Mattel, a better company. What can I get done by the end of tomorrow to be a better husband to be a better dead? And when you write that down when you train yourself to get into that habit to it for thirty days, it'll become natural. You can go to bed. Easier, you can change it when you wake up in the morning, but again it's one of those trainings. What can I get done? To Make My. To make my team more successful to make me were successful. If I'm looking for a job to be a more effective and looking for a job so right that. That question before you go to bed. Train yourself to do it. And you might be able to get to sleep without having to take some of those magic. His name is Dr Mark Allston. A. By the way I did not know he was going to do this and it was better than I could ever. Swore. WE'RE WE WE? I know we're. GonNa talk about this book real influence. And it's fantastic, but what you're hearing is the heart of the man, and he is absolutely fabulous. He's going to be with us for the next forty minutes on the

"You know the other thing I want to point out is he's been dealing with this since he was nine years old. So he manages it very well, he manages his blood sugars incredibly. Well, if you look at everything, he does during a game and all of that the fitness for being an NFL player the way he manages his lead sugar that would tend to put him. At lower risk because a healthier individual as far as the other musculoskeletal injuries he's had I think if you look at last year, obviously a huge touchdown target and a lot of plays in the red zone routes run but I think some of the limitation as far as his time on the field had to do with the fact he was dealing with foot and ankle injuries that were bothering him for a good chunk of the season. He's recovered from those. I don't think that's an issue this year. So he certainly has the potential to be on the field more than he was last year. From define you as always we thank you talk to get just a little bit. So let's discuss Andrew Understanding the health considerations there but sounds again, all things are looking good. The opt out date for players is in less than six hours as we speak. Mark Andrews Bossom into a tier one titan and I guess the answer really is not again it's can do it consistently going forward because last year he was tied in five nearly fourteen points per game. He's being drafted right now is tied end for them ranked aside, and for you haven't ranked as tight end three minutes ahead of Zach. Ertz for you in your ranks. Is this a player that we're GONNA? Every year, we're going to start to talk about the set it and forget it tight ends. Mark Andrews is just sitting there waiting for him, I think. So I think. So I do think he's part of the big. Three. My concerns on Zach Ertz, our new member of the victory I think he's a new member of the Big Three I. Kelsey. Its kibble and Mark Andrews for me interesting. Yeah. I mean I still think earth is in the tier one and we'll talk. About the right. Yeah. But I do have I've had a couple of drafts here where both earth and Andrews have been on the on the board for me and each time I've taken Mark Andrews Look I. Think he's a special player again we just SORTA talk about Target share, right I mean who's the ball going when they throw? has made about the MAR-. Jackson's running people forget Lamar. Jackson led the NFL and touchdown passes last year people forget. I'd only six, seventy six. So I don't think people. Realize that because he's so spectacular with his legs. If people people forget like just how good a passing offense, the ravens were last year. So Zakar it's I think I, have concerns about Dallas I know they love with a capital l loved Dallas scattered in Philadelphia and I believe he will be even more involved this year plus they've added of obviously other receiving weapons in Philadelphia. So I'm concerned about the target chair for Zach Ertz narrow but yes, I have Andrews ahead of. Him again like last year like he was, he was the guy he was tied for the most endzone targets. In the NFL, he was targeted over thirty six percent of his routes that led all players in the NFL. Like he was second among tight ends in yards per route thirty receptions per route like pick a stat and Mark Andrews is at the top among all tight ends in all of them and the question is, do you think that was a fluke and I don't Think I, think that's A. Very succinct for sponsors to your eloquent analysis I. Think he's a Stud I don't have any concerns about drafting him reminder they traded away hate in her. So one less tight end to compete with targets and snaps for Mark Andrews I'm going to give you my favorite late round flyer amongst ravens non passers we haven't. We haven't talked yet before we get there though just curious where are you drafting because i? Just as we sort of talk about where you drafting Mark Andrews, where are you comfortable taking that third tight end? If, we figured Kelsey by the end of the second round I was seeing kittle or gone and. Going around twenty five I would say middle of the fourth route is we're on target those next run of tight ends the. Andrews Yeah Clergy to thirty-five somewhere in that range I would grinding number somewhere somewhere between mid mid fourth. I. Think it just depends on sort of how your draft is going away bound-player just to just do some research on as you are potentially building some sleepers and guys, you might have some interest in his Devin do vernay ninety second overall pick this year's draft and a guy that had over one hundred catches for Texas last year a player that maybe we could see game slot reps for Baltimore this season you're talking about who's going to catch passes out of the slider. Guy Math. We're talking about Joe Borough and I'm really still talk about him in just one second right. But.

How Will Cam Newton Make the Patriots Better?

"All right bill. We're here today to talk about the New England Patriots and Cam specifically began her. They used to film. The Cincinnati bengals sideline for which they were find over a million dollars mosque third round. Pick well the good news. Is that they've decided to uproot their entire organization and totally chance planet quarterback to bury the latest piece of evidence that there maybe not playing by the rules as everybody else. Bill Barnwell is the host of the podcast. The bill Barnwell show. You just, but there are people on the Internet positing that these events are connected. Of course. We are here today to talk about. The other came Cam Newton the New England. Patriots who could have predicted this? IS GOING TO RELEASE CAM to they're going to wait, and the Patriots are going to get him for nothing and they're going to be good. It's going to be awful in offense. It was impossible up to this point. The idea that the only team in the league that to starting quarterback might possibly make a move for the best available starting quarterback on the free agent market see Telepho-, obvious when you lay it out like that, but here's the thing it's June and according to our Adam Schefter. No other teams exception to the Browns who had some interest put in a call then New England goes out, and they get cam for basically nothing veteran minimum with incentives. How bill how? I think it's a combination of things I mean. Obviously the coronavirus has impacted team's ability to see workouts to administer physicals and Cam Newton of course as a player coming off of a serious injury, eight frank injury to the middle of his foot, which cost him pretty much. The entire two thousand nineteen season for that coming off the shoulder surgery has not been healthy in a while, and so you'd figure in a typical circumstance. He would be easy for teams to kind of see what cam has left, and then make an offer only, but there haven't really been teams able to make the sort of offers that would justify starting quarterback role. And then I think from camps perspective he rightfully would rather be making less money with the opportunity to start for the new, England Patriots say a playoff team from a year ago, then serve as a perhaps higher paid backup in a spot where he's unlikely to play. Knowing how little New England paid for him and looking back at some of the other quarterbacks who got jobs during free agency? Are there any teams that you think would have been wise to jump ahead of new? England and WHY IS IT CHICAGO? I do think that the decision to trade for Nick. Foles a player who realistically has if not Worse Injury History Than Cam Newton certainly a comparable injury history when it comes to his checkered past i. do think that the bears would have been in much better shape. Do Not trae draft pick and to sign Cam Newton for much less money than they're going to give nick foles over the next three years and I think there's a handful of teams that. That even if it happened as a backup, I think teams like the steelers. Of course you've talked about the titans as possible CAM, Newton location and I think absolutely teams like that have a veteran quarterback with a history of injuries and very little behind them in the backup role would have absolutely been smart to making move for Cam Newton, but obviously I think it's the Patriots benefit that the League has been so conservative when it's come to approach again. Let's talk about what we can expect out of canning. Which I realize, you are not a doctor, but the big question mark is you've outlined his health the last time we saw him play. Football was the beginning of the two thousand nineteen season. He only played a couple of games before his season ended due to a foot injury, he incurred during the preseason. What did you see out of Cam the last time he was healthy? The last extended stretch we saw from Cam Newton as a healthy quarterback, was the first half of twenty eighteen, and he was excellent. Newton throws. Fabio Capello Panthers one of the best teams in football at six to newton was tenth and Passer Rating Twelve Qbr and the panthers had guilty scheme that was designed to actually trying to out more quickly and leave some of the hits that candidate taking, and we saw his numbers include accordingly. SNAP TO NEWTON looking left throws it over the Middle Touchdown Greg Olsen. Cam Newton looking like a poster on feats. Assume. Thirty so frequently earlier in his career, they always posted pretty mediocre. Completion percentages in two thousand eighteen across the first half you had a completion percentage of sixty seven point three percent that was one of the best marks in football. He was averaging nearly four touchdowns for every pick producing really two hundred eighty yards per game from scrimmage. He was illegitimate MVP candidate through the first half of twenty eighteen. And then of course, the injuries struck. Labor rotator cuff just to soreness. He had a shoulder injury that led to surgery after two thousand eighteen. And then the foot injury cam stumbles Abu to the nearside. He's in trouble. Hit droplet like. Damn comes off the field limping a little bit maybe. But you tried to play through and was unable to do so.

"I have a feeling that I don't have a feel I just think that some of his runs are unscripted and some of it is. Brilliant that I don't know that that's been they have as much control as so I think I agree with you. Last year as I mentioned US rb ten. So if the question was is marking, I'm still an rb one because that was the fringe of Harvey One last year that I think a lot of us would say, no, he's not you mentioned the regression and some of the possibilities and the stat that really stands out is that he had five perceiving touchdowns last year on twenty six catches nearly twenty percent of his catches resulted in touchdowns. For the record prior to last year, he had five receiving touchdown, his entire career that was on two, hundred, sixty nine targets, not catch us but still targets. He was lethal last year as a receiver and some of those were just walking because so much came easy for the Ravens last year. So I actually think he's being appropriately drafted right now as like a high end flex play and for the JK Dobbins versus Mark Ingram debate. Sometimes we have to see it to believe it with running backs as rookie sometimes we just. Bet On them big like Saquon, Barkley two years ago, and he proves to be worthwhile. We're JK Dobbins on that because my instinct is this guy is going to be really good. There's no doubt I thought. He should have been the first overall running back taking in this year's class instead he goes fiftieth overall or is. Of these scenarios marking is good. Jk Dobbins is not fantasy relevant Mark Ingram is fine but jk Dobbins is better and jar third scenario is Mark Ingram has no fantasy value jk dobbins has all the fantasy value in this backfield. It feels like the third door is the least likely to happen. Right correct barring injury barring injury of course but you feel like if one of these two players does not have a reliable fantasy role this year, it's more likely to be Dobbins than Ingram hundred percent they really like Mark Ingram. In Ball leader is a huge part of their fabric in their DNA emotional spark plug and get skillset. That's also does matter to how he's utilized week over week one, hundred, percent they're. Like Mark Ingram's not losing his job. The argument for JK Dobbins is something happens to mark Ingram marking who missed a handful of games two years ago we're in a season where cove nineteen is obviously part of the conversation around football like the argument for JK Dobbins is that we're not rooting for this but should something happen to mark Ingram where he could not play? The expectations Dobbins would be the number one running back on again, one of the best rushing offense in the NFL and we think based on his college tape. The Dobbins. Is something special. I Love Dobbins as a late round flyer as he's one of my favorite insurance plays if you will. This year but but no, I don't think there is a scenario in which. Mark Ingram, a healthy mark Ingram is suddenly sitting on the bench watching. Jay Take JK dobbins run all over opponents significantly remember everyone was all about Justice Hill last year. Mark Ingram is in some ways fueled. Gore like every year people are trying to bury Mark Ingram and every year Mark Ingram just goes out and prove them wrong. And so. The one thing about the receiving touchdowns, which is curious, right? I. Agree with you that you know that's obviously just to create. It's completely outlier, but I do wonder if maybe it doesn't go to zero that. Some of that is because defenses are so busy chasing Lamar Jackson around like you just can't control the the guy's a human video game right and so that leaves guys. You know what? I mean like Lamar Jackson had different quarterback obviously than drew brees, which is. Interesting when they getting close, my point is when you're in close against the Ravens, you have to account for more than you did when you play drew brees the saints. All right. Let's fair that is fair. Yeah. There's you have to account for more than just about any offense maybe except for Kansas City's let's gets defying involved here because to find, we have a couple of players that have injury question marks on this offense and I'm going to start with Hollywood Brown who dealt with list frank issues last season how do you foresee Brown's health progress going into year two? Think last year he didn't even workout the combine there was a question as to whether he even be ready to start the season and even though he did start the season, there was some question as to whether he could really go one hundred percent. After fairly significant surgery in the off season, he had a screw removed that screw had been bothering him a bit I talked to him at the Super Bowl. He said his foot was much more comfortable getting that piece of hardware out he's added some weight in this off season even reportedly used a GPS system like they use with the team to make sure that the added weight didn't slow him down I actually think he can be more productive this year that foot did hold him back a bit still had a solid season, but it was still a factor. I certainly was to find yeah we're GONNA come back to you in just a few moments. Thank you for that Intel and talk about mark andrus other player in this ravens offense bit some question marks surrounding his health. All right. Let's go to Hollywood Brown up fairly encouraging report from Stefania about him matthew. This is where I'm sort of wrestling with this myself as I'm ranking. Hollywood. Brown we have a seven slot difference you and I do you wide receiver thirty, one I hadn't wide receiver thirty eight. He's being drafted in terms of wide receivers thirty seconds right now. Do you believe that Hollywood Brown's going to develop into a weekly starter this season I do I'm actually wondering if from too low on him at thirty one. So that's been mind. So there's there's really two paths here for for Markeith Brown for Hollywood Brown the people that are anti Hollywood Brown would argue look he was insanely efficient. He doesn't get a ton of targets Kenny continue that he's a big play to happen obviously. But like when he doesn't score a long touchdown, he's not really fantasy relevant. It's just a little bit too up and down somewhat like Dijon, Jackson's fantasy value was for years. Right was just like there's five there's GonNa be four or five huge games here. But when he when he doesn't have the, you know that sixty yard touchdown catch it's it's you know there's there's not a high floor there. So that's the one argument. The argument and this is the one that I'm on the side of is that. Last year as a rookie, just coming off the list frank and everything like that. He. Was a guy that showed real flashes. He's the number one wide receiver. On one of the best offenses in the NFL coming into a second year in the NFL now, fully healthy as hurts define USA and we always talk about this. The biggest leap NFL player makes us from year to one to year two. So again like. The number. One wide receiver on one of the best passing offense in.

"An interruption I hear you remember though it's Haley Burns Burns, go ahead and count that. The Fantastic Haley Burns fastest interruption yet. But? Is your favorite part. Maybe it's actually a question for for Haley or for Lisa, our intrepid director but is your favorite part of the opening of the show. The fact that I'm always looking at my phone because what I'm trying to do is because we're on so many channels we're on, we're on the ESPN APP we're on ESPN Youtube. Page we are on twitter at fantasy focus. I think. So that's what I'm trying to look at. So I can re tweet it. But we are. Also. We're on the ESPN fantasy facebook page right and I found out yesterday. Tell me more what'd you find your on the ESPN FANTASY APP? You can watch not only in the ESPN APP but the ESPN FANTASY APP That's really cool. Yeah. Yeah. Let's be honest. Let's be would now now what I now feel what we need to decide is I think what you and I need to get together here like we gotta get. Our world domination headquarters, and we just need to figure out what other APPS ESPN has that we're not on complaining about that who are not on and maybe be. Like yeah. We should be on ESPN snapchat channel Yeah with us with a dog faces or whatever like and I'm having ails what have you heard of reels reels? Main Street Grant Instagram instagram's version, right? Right. Right talk so we should be on the ground. Parlor if we could I'm not on parlour yet but if we could be on, if we get my daughters, my daughters like every other, you know kid in America, my daughter's got very tiktok during the corn team you know thirty-three-year-old men. And Mom's apparently everywhere of course. So. If I could. If I could get big on Tiktok that'd be my parent. My kids do not care at all about anything I. Do if I could get big on Tiktok that would be impressive. Impressive to them. So follow at Matthew Berry Timour on ticked up. We've got a huge show today and I'm not saying that hyperbole I? Think it's really fun. We've got Lamar Jackson to be disgusted. We do double trouble covering the Ravens and also the Joe Borough lead Bengals so excited talk about borough and just a minute and good news that we have. Daniel. Back today to help us out and make it through the show. We hold on. Is that Daniel has shrunk. Quite, any now has no beard or tattoos and he has a sign of the bottom of this coat Mariuchi. Oh, that's right. Daniel has been replaced by a Steve Mariucci bobble. I love Mooch and one of the great personalities the NFL is seen in quite some time. So more seriously Daniel still dealing with as hundreds of thousands of people are in Connecticut. In around the region, no power. So he'll be gets back soon we will have to find coming up on the shower. It's really our no water. Oh, managed to make it in those second day to say, no big deal odorous not to lie look I showered here at the ESPN facilities I. Got Myself Pretty here extent that I can I mean you know I don't have much to work with. Let's be clear. Under yeah. So but Daniel. Honestly Daniel have. It for me it was just Dr- I just don't have power or water daniel like literally has massive trees and power lines down around his house like like he would be risking life and limb to come into work. Yeah. So we hope to have Daniel back maybe tomorrow maybe Monday we'll find out but good luck to him and everybody squirrel dealing with power issues right now let's talk about the Baltimore Ravens, match or last year the NFL during the regular season Lamar Jackson was the clear cut number one quarterback and fantasy football last year he might have been fantasy football's MVP. T average twenty, seven, point seven, one, well Christian. McCaffrey, certainly could have been the end of the the fantasy MVP. A-. Guess. So I mean I just feel like McCaffrey was first rounder last year and Lamar Jackson was like a thirteen but I think there's a there's a conversation to be had just because we haven't been here. Let's. Right now. Rows last night. That bag chip he certainly say, and so the the philosophical question that we're going to have bought the March acsi not debated the merits of payments of fantasy superstar. It's not about whether he's GonNa continue to become a better player year over year none of that stuff. It's the same conversation. We had last year surrounding Patrick mahomes right more. Jackson's probably going to be the first quarterback taken in almost every draft part of. But the question is how early should he go and it's not that you are drafting Lamar Jackson with the expectation of him being the best fantasy quarterback this year, it's that last year the gap between Lamar Jackson in the second best quarterback in fantasy football. Last year was six point three points right game that was greater than the difference between quarterback to and quarterback twenty three. So if you're drafting Lamar Jackson early you're paying the premium for him to be leaps and bounds better than the next best quarterback at that point I just to put some names they're just so people understand what you're talking about here like just how much better he was. Lamar. Jackson was better than to Shawn Watson. There was a greater margin in terms of points per game between Lamar Jackson and Shawn Watson. Then there was between two Shawn Watson, Derek Carr in seeing I. Mean, that's that's what we're talking about here when Lamar Jackson just was dominant and like. Like, we haven't seen before and so the question obviously becomes like, okay. What comes up must come down like regression to the mean we talked about this when the homes last year and so I think the point that I made last year with the homes and I would make it again with Mark Jackson. We all I should we all I expect Lamar Jackson to regress. Okay. I, expect Lamar Jackson to regress. He's still my number one quarterback because he's so far ahead of everyone else that even if he regresses a decent amount, he's still worthy of being the number one quarterback. The difference is like how much better is he going to be than? Patrick Mahomes or Dak Prescott or Russell Wilson Watson or of the guys that we expect to be up there. Level of the quarterback position. Thirsty Kyle through this together, and I'll just throw this out real quickly. Yep. So Lamar Jackson last year threw touchdown nine percent of passes right? Nearly double the league average do think about mahomes homes from two years ago to last year he dipped from eight point six to five point four much closer to league average again. So if Jackson declines at a similar rate has touchdown, pass total would go from thirty six to twenty three. Okay. And Michael Vick's best rushing year. He rushed for twenty four point, six more than sixteen game average with Atlanta. So again, we're just we're taking it. We're trying to take out liars here, but if Lamar Jackson's rushing declined by twenty four percent. He'd still have over nine hundred rushing.

"No impact on it and or do you foresee green getting signed <hes> probably not to this to to a four year deal but do you see him getting signed to something this summer because that's what bengals like to take care of these types of things and I wouldn't necessarily role for you got last time because he's got one more year so just be technically a five-year deal with four years new money but besides I do think that just their communication throughout this process as airtight and I think boy coming to agreement with this I believe he said he told green is like one of the first few he told once <hes> the thing was official official on Monday so they've been entitled medications throughout the entire process. I don't think that would be so <hes> you know excited to sign deal early without having any inclination that there wasn't any progress going on with green steel obviously there they working on that I would assume simultaneously along point because I was just kind of do things but they just can't agreement void I because like you said he sees he's cheaper in his younger aims probably of high priority with that but everything that we've heard about green and just his featuring Cincinnati just means that the ideals <unk> deals going to happen and you can probably get some solid on that they don't really make mistakes from this point on to the to the beginning of the season in terms of extensions of the handouts so I do think that boy and influence with from green he he has confidence that he's GonNa stay here knows probably a little the part of his decision but also this is about the best deal that Boyd <unk> accepted that this could for seen from the bengals itself anything more than the ten point seven five million. I think he got on average. I WanNa see the guaranteed because the guaranteed numbers that I don't think the contract is up on <unk> or anything but it'll be interesting to see how the money is <unk> parlayed over the next couple couple years imagine it's probably acted in that sense because because he is younger but <hes> yeah I do think that the <unk> boy in that sense but also Boyd <hes> you know wanted to be here with green in wouldn't have signed the contract if he wasn't at to some degree very confident that green wasn't also winning offered something in the near future obviously green has you know is on the same page with a front runoff isn't that he wants to be here in. I have no doubt of the deal like that is going to happen in the very near future yeah and I think I think Cincinnati Bengals <hes> probably learned some lessons the hard way in the twenty seventeen seventeen off season when they lost a guy like Andrew Whitworth and Kevin Styler two guys at Wor <hes> you know stalwarts on on offense <hes> I I Kinda WanNa ask you this. I guess if the optimist in me wants is to think that this contract Tyler Boyd wanting to stay in Cincinnati is more than just the money <hes> yeah he got paid while he got paid probably market value in terms of average <hes> average her average money per year but the the I duNNo. I guess I look at it and I I'm thinking you know. Is this something that we can point a two point Zach Taylor and say this is a guy who specifically signed this deal because he likes the direction of things he likes the direction of the way the offense is going so that he will get his stats rats and he feels that this team can win in the near future. <hes> you know the money the money's the money and you know I think I think that he signed a deal because of that but is there maybe the end alterior motive but maybe a thought on his end saying you know things are moving in positive direction here. Yeah I think there is that on both sides were because he said that the bengals learn a lesson by you know they're. They're not GonNa let a guy like Woodworth..

"I mean, I don't I haven't given much thought to how they would fit in our system in there. So many guys. That I think that you know, I wouldn't stretch just because they're an Ohio State guy. Right. Like, I'm a huge book I fan, but once the NFL like kicks in, you know, once they're out of college like they're just another player to me. I mean, look at Chaisiri in Pittsburgh. Related at all. So I don't know. I mean, if you're asking if I think the Bengals should look at half ins with their first pick. I would say, no, right. And I mean, I've been labeled the Dolton Homer. But I would argue that this seat in particular there's much bigger holes to fill than a quarterback. Right. I'm nervous that they go after a quarterback. And I don't even know that Haskins would be the guy for for, you know, with this new coaching staff looks for I think maybe like a drew lock would be more what they would want. But I I hope we stay away from quarterback. I kinda hope there's a run in the beginning. And I mean, I heard Cody talking before this if the Bengals have the opportunity to pick up another pick and go back a little bit. I think that's probably awesome. I mean, I. For a long time. I've been in the back of my head of had a guy in mind, not who I necessarily want the Bengals pick. But who I think they probably will? And I listened to this whole show I just caught the last little bit. So I don't know people have mentioned it. But I I have a guy who I think they'll go for in it. It's a safe pick in its Bengals picks in it would I think it will really tell me a lot about who's kind of. Pushing these picks in if that makes sense. Yeah. We'll we'll get to that. Just a second John. Yes. So you talked a little bit about Bertha CT, and we'll be all loved about him. When he was competent wasn't just because he was the best linebacker, but he was kind of the identity of the defense and just so happens that in this draft, the top two linebackers are not only athletic freaks can defend the runners as drawback encourage, but they can they can kind of come onto the NFL team bringing identity defense kind of kind of become that leader in the locker room..

"But because they underachieve last year mostly because of injuries I only wanted to enter team because they were quite by injuries last year kind of do their season. So I think the Bengals have being overlooked. I think that the casual San if. They were picking a team ranked? Now, look certainly the Browns or they didn't have enough Ilyushin either want. But that that being said that doesn't mean that the goes are as bad as people are making them out to be. I don't think anyone is really swing than they in anywhere. Besides fourth in the division. And I don't think it has to go cadets written in stone that they're gonna finish last in the division. This coming season. Dogma James or pain of ninety two three the fan in Cleveland. Good to have him on the show. It's been been a while. And it has been so long since we've had you on the show James that there is a coaching regime now, you spent a coaching regime change that is you spent some time I spent considerable time around the Bengals and Marvin Lewis, and you know, how the team operates and operated under Louis. You haven't really spent the time with this new coaching staff that's in place. But I, you know, you still have a great pulse on the team based on what what they did this off season, which is, you know, kind of their MO stick with a lot of the guys they know couple of outside players resigned their own and seeing the needs that they have here. What do you see them doing in the first couple of rounds this weekend coming up in terms of positions may be players? All that. Good stuff. Yeah. I the Bengals very good spot because at eleven you're going to get a premium Cowan..

"Those were deplorable performances in some of the primetime games just were not prepared at any rate. That's now in the past and the Bengals are looking to move on from Marvin Lewis and a possible new head coach. And you know, there's some there's some questions and comments try and get to here. I love this. When curious how the players feel by Michael Myers in our live YouTube jet. That's that's interesting because yesterday I was thinking back. I don't know if you remember this or not. But there was a time in a believe it was gosh win was it. They were interviewing Giovanni Bernard. A couple of years ago. I believe it was last year. I can't really remember. It was one of those times where Marvin Lewis dot in extension came back. And they literally broke the news to Bernard on camera. And of course, he was cordial, and oh, really that's cool. Okay. Marvins back, but he wasn't overly jubilant at least not in a. In a moment that seemed to be pretty candid and surprising to him. So I'm I'm curious to know what the Bengals plans are if you're the Bengals players mindsets. Are if you remember also for those of you who follow on Twitter if you follow Carlos Dunlap on Twitter there were a couple of seasons. Especially in twenty believe it's twenty sixteen twenty seventeen. Now this this year, he couldn't really complain. Does. He got a big contract. But in twenty sixteen he put out some cryptic tweets that kinda questioned what the Bengals were doing in terms of free agency helping the team in all of that Marvin Lewis, obviously kinda one of the spearheads of what they were doing or weren't doing in those in those in those facets, so. I think for a lot of those players. I think they liked Marvin Lewis, you know, you saw at the end of twenty seventeen they didn't give up. They had some nice wins at the end of that year. They played hard even though they were decimated. They played hard against the Steelers in week seventeen this year that played hard against the chargers few weeks ago. They played you know, they didn't really give up on mar Louis. They wanted to play for him. But I think I think everybody is kinda like, well, maybe the Louis himself. Maybe it's just all around almost a sense of relief in saying, you know, at this is this is what needs to happen. I got this. Let's see I got this. It was a tweet to me basically asking do. I think that the next coach the Bengals will come. Will this be a Mike Brown higher? Will this be Katie Blackburn higher? Will it be kind of a group higher or or will it still be Mike Brown show? If you remember Mike Brown in a couple of interviews in recent years. He kind of said he's handed off the keys to a bunch of people including Louis, including Katie Blackburn, including Duke Tobin, and he's kind of sat back, and yeah, he's had some say, but he's let them take control. Now Marvin's out of the building. Due Tobin a guy who's been loud for his drafts. Recently is now sitting in it. We're looking at some high picks that have not panned out for the team. So, you know, I'm curious to I think that this will be a Mike Brown higher. I think that he's gonna kind of Sirte more power in. That's that's a little bit. What I'm afraid of with this move from Marvin I think, and I think that's really the only fear is is is not only I guess there's the fear of the unknown in potentially hiring someone that could bring the Bengals back into obscurity. There's also the issue of the bangles potentially a Mike Brown reasserting control and making decisions that are not beneficial to the team. So. And I think that that that might be where we we're headed..

And then I kinda picked the back in college. But I I know how to bench like all right? Anthony, calm down here. All right. Okay. You're you're a veteran of the chest. That's kinda big news hour to talk about like I said a couple of things that transpired in that game both from Cleveland player and a bangles player. We're gonna talk a little bit about the Steelers game. We're going to maybe give out a couple of New Year's resolutions for the Bengals that they should be thinking about as the the new year that the ball in Times Square drops they should be. "In establishing off of success in in the early parts tenure, I guess. Yeah. And Michael Myers in the in the live YouTube chat said, you know, something to the effect that the Bengals could have somewhere about fifty nine million in taps face as it stands next year. So is five point nine million the yeah. Yeah. I mean when you when you include that magical, rookie rookie pool in in season windfall. In all that stuff. Anyway, let's let's move on before start throwing things. Believe it or not Bengals the game this week. Earned. It is a doozy. Play. The raiders who have been struggling quite a bit in their first year under Jon Gruden. I think the raiders raiders nation thought that they had the return of their savior. And it is quite the opposite both because of trading away marquee players that they had on the roster and not getting enough out of their quarterback and all kinds of different problems of play the raiders traveled to Cincinnati and a game Cincinnati should win. Here we go John because there's a big canonical erotic readily if skewers lose out. If the ravens I think if they win one more game or moved apple. Basically there. There are heroes as it may be that if the Bengals went out and get a lot of help they could theoretically. There's probably I don't know the percentage chance it won't. It's very low. But at this point. What you saw last week in the effort level? We talked about. And. It's a real Kramer Bengals ended up doubling this foreign knowing what we know. Now getting does this vision is as winnable as it's been in a really long time in we kinda thought it was gonna be a little bit of down year waiting from. But. Or not not a very competitive year. We've been so really sticks mid mid late or the year. I mean, I guess I think most people say just take it and get a hydrophobic lose out or whatever. Or do you want to try and? See I mean, you don't want to give up obviously, right? I mean, even if you will the division at eight Nate. Yeah. I'll I'll say because I'm compelled the stand by my stance wrote about how we should continue to want to see the Bengals win because they don't make decisions predicated off wins losses were in that sense. Mice will just have some fun for the seasons. Because when autumn's down the way, I don't think they're drafting matters. What kinda town together first round again? I don't think they hire the fire Lamar Lewis go depending on what the record is at the end of the season with that said, I have no frigate interest in all the Senate bingo's team the playoffs as the foresee taking on the charges again as the five seed playing even at home Nunes esteem of just be like round two that's thirteen playoff game. I just have just euro inches and seeing that at all play offs steam like I I want to try and if they win this game against the raiders are win the game. The Browns have some fun with it. But not to the extent where they somehow stumble. Into the playoffs..

"There's just too much stacked against them right now. And you know, I think Christian Billingham who sends a comment here blow the team up and start over. Yeah. I mean, that's that's probably the the permeating thought through a lot of people right now. And unfortunately, you know, I mentioned some of those good names on defense the Bengals probably this next week now get AJ greenback. You would think you would hope that he would have played today. But you would think he comes back if Dalton's injuries serious they've got that core group of guys there. There's just this massive underachievement happening right now. And unfortunately, that's it's a reflection of of you know, coaching and all of that. There are positives to take away from this game. John Ross had another touchdown catch. Yes. You had a drop it. He was also he had a touchdown catch late in the game. He also had a he was opened early in the game on a bomb. That would have been a touchdown if Dalton hadn't overthrown him. So that's you know, there's that. And you know side for mix that was pretty much it thirteen penalties on the day unacceptable. Many of them were against poor Jeff not against him. But we're against the offense. When Jeff Driscoll was there and put him in terrible situations that negate any kind of comeback that the Bengals could've out mounted. And you know, I mean, there's there's so many things to say that are negative that the effort level throughout most of the game was poor the attitude seem to be pretty poor. They looked feed and deflated throughout the entire game. The little things now are starting to collapse on the. Cincinnati Bengals I mentioned the penalties all kinds of mental mistakes. In terms of false starts all the false starts at home, regardless of it being a different quarterback. All of the false starts at home. That's unacceptable. That's a mental mistake. You can accept physical mistakes. You know, hard hit you fumble the ball, you accept the accept that kind of stuff. You know, every once in a while interceptions will happen except that kind of stuff mental mistakes like a false start by numerous layers at home is something you cannot accept that's indicative of a lack of focus in all of that two weeks in a row the Bengals made rookie quarterback's looked like all stars in improving veterans, that's indicative of coaching in preparation. And you know, like, I said the intensity level the effort level all of that is not there in right now we seem to be kind of in this stretch if your member few people seem to reference or remember late last season when the Bengals got stopped by the bears the Vikings in back to back weeks. They fail to remember that because the Bengals had a couple nice wins at the end of the season. You know, save Marvin Lewis job, supposedly, then they come back, and they start off foreign on this year and everybody including myself kinda forgot to reference those things will now we're kind of in the middle of stretch very similar to that back. Then there were there was talk about Marvin Lewis potential losing his job. I don't know if that will be the case this this week. I doubt it I, you know, I think that at a minimum Mike Brown in the Bengals will keep Marvin Lewis through this season. They've already had enough coaching turnover. And all that kind of stuff. I think they're gonna keep it as is. But we'll see that's that's yet to be seen. You know there. There are like I said there's so many places to start in terms of issues with this team penalties. Thirteen penalties at home unacceptable. Your kicker can't kick a field goal attempt. Can't convert a field goal attempts seemingly over fifty yards. He got fifty four. Yard attempt block, then he had an extra point even when a very very very unlikely comeback was being mounted misses an extra point. Everything that can go wrong. Basically, did you know the Bengals get a touchdown before the half? They get the ball back. Maybe they start to get something. Moving poor snap by the rookie. Billy price goes over Dalton's head not only the Bengals lose possession. Give up another touchdown. But they lose Andy Dalton on the plate with an injured thumb. So it's things like that. That snowball on his team..

"YouTube since jungle dot com and art nineteen get the show where he can we appreciate the sport. And we are thankful that we have a lot of live listeners. Joining us even though it's a holiday weekend. They've got a lot to do maybe even allowed to prep for thanksgiving yet there joining us live, and we appreciate those down. Love the show after the fact is well, speaking of thankful, John we may need to reach for this one. But let's talk a little bit about what we are thankful for with the Cincinnati Bengals not going to be easy. I almost wish if we're talking about this segment. I almost wish that the Bengals may be started off one in four. And now they rattled off. They went foreign one. And that's now they're five five that we would be a little more positive, maybe at this point. But. Put you on the slot, buddy. I'm gonna let you go first. And it could be something. Hey, I'll even allow cynicism here if you'd like with your with your grateful, whatever you're great before with the Bengals. But seeing how it's thanksgiving. I thought that it would be appropriate that we talk about something thankful for with the with the Cincinnati Bengals twenty eight team. All right, always thankful for the helmets. Never let it hasn't changed in my lifetime. So forever grateful for that always thankful. People who know me know me as like more of on pivoting more towards player fandom than team phantom in team allegiance. And what when it comes to just how players just kinda act in compose themselves as you know, players representations of the league. I don't care if they're divas. I don't care if they're upstanding citizens. I think they deserve to be whoever they kinda want to be. But I am grateful that the the Bengals of at least my adolescents in in in teenage years in now. Now twenty two years old appreciative of that for the most part, they're pretty upstanding guys in the pretty well. Composed. And they just kind of even though you know, we we like to dog on some of them for the most part. I think that for the most part under Marvin Lewis, he's put together a team of pretty solid human beings for the most part. You know, guys like any doll aged green, Gino Atkins. Carl Michael Johnson. Just guys that really easy to root for a really make a fool themselves. You know, what went when some other teams do? So again, I I don't hate guys like Beckham or other guys like that who kind of appear in the media too soon because I understand that there's a lot more context than I think a lot of people miss when they look at players in the social media interactions. Not the Bengals, you know. Even if they are stuck in their ways in there. Nope. Consistently mediocre. They kind of always bring me back because it's easy to like the players on the team just from the way that they are as athletes in how they kind of just tell out in the community, but just how they carry themselves. I think they're they they always have a team that's really easy to root for kinda guys who stories that you always enjoying the follow. And it's honestly just listening talk a little bit cheesy one ever. But I just think that's always something that I'm appreciative unthankful for even if we won a roster every single year is guys. That I believe just really easy to root for really no player that you can live up to guess. That's a good one. I like that one. You know, I'm going I'm going to say a couple of things here in the I agree with you, John. I agree that, you know, there are the Carlos dunlap's Gino Atkins sky's. The Michael Johnson to are always knowledge for the Walter Payton man of the year. You know, there are a lot of good guys on this roster. Which is you know, cool to see I mean, even a guy Drake her Patrick. He's he's visiting senior senior homes dancing with with old ladies in doing cool things like that. You know? That's that's something. You don't you? Don't see from. It shows a level of maturity that we did not see from the Bengals in the mid two thousand late two thousand even when the you know, whatever you.

"But it's definitely not going to be a cakewalk, even if it is the Browns, and they still carry that stigma of being in the bottom of the league from to everyone else, but but Bengals fainted realizes that the Bengals are in the bottom league themselves. So it has to be a really big humility humility check for all Bengals fans in specifically for the Bengals. Yeah. I mean, even the record the record says five and five you're right there and the team that that. Loss to and the team that currently now has the succeed the grasp on the sixteen in the playoff picture in the AFC is five and five definitely beatable team. Even the Cincinnati lost to them. They you know, the way that the Bengals are playing the effort that they're showing or lack thereof it they are playing like they have two wins. They are playing like they, you know, like a Brown seem from years pass. It is not played very well. There has struggled to win games in you, look at it. Now, John you kinda go out of this team win five games. I mean, I I get how the season went on as the season has gone on. There's been a lot of injuries. There's been a lot of issues on that front. I get that. But every team experiences that maybe not to the same extent the Bengals have experienced it this year. But I mean, I'm looking at it. And I I looked at the offense for the the ravens this week. I've I kinda jokingly, but I'm serious. This is like a an offense. You see on Friday nights in the fall. I mean, it's it's read option the passing is incredibly careful. I don't know that the ball traveled fifteen yards in the air out of Lamar Jackson fan. He might some passes netted more yards than that. But I don't think he threw it in the air fifteen yards undrafted rookie free agent running back. It's one hundred yards on them. Lamar. I mean, these are these are the things that point to a bad team were a bad season yet the Bengals are five and five. So you go I don't get this team. Right. And a lot of the is. Be like just looked at upon week to week. And I think 'cause we talked about you know, how they're going to do in a season like season previews. Health was obviously a big factor that we talked about the typically with the offense almost experienced more injuries on the defensible long-term Lawson Brown dinner for a little bit. And obviously vigil the best linebacker has been on the field. So I like injury skews too gets old even for most teams. But when you have a coach who's been here for sixteen years is just hard to use the injury excused his benefit when you know, we said multiple years of dealing with this still nothingness he has nothing to show for it. So it you just can't give a coach he's been here for as long as Marvin Lewis the pass with injuries because at this when he should be knowing what he's dealing with with his roster. If he can't get it done by now than slow. He's never going to get it done with the ravens, you know, we we were kind of optimistic that the defense will get rejuvenated with Louis leading the way. But as you said, the ravens didn't do anything special to them. But it's almost like they didn't practice what they already knew going to happen. Which is just all the more mind boggling, I guess kind of a perfect synopsis of what the team. Is there Marvin Lewis? Yeah. There's a lot to dissect with with that game on. Fortunately, the Bengals didn't come out on top. They did make it a close line. We'll talk about that. We'll talk about some interesting injuries. Some more injury news with the Bengals in what's ahead for them. As we go forward. This is the orange black Outer Banks flawed. "Necessary new it's a necessary move. You don't like to see someone lose their livelihood or anything like that. But let's start with kind of the show part in that is terr- lost in being fired as the Bengals defensive coordinator. Now. There is so much to say about this. There's so much to digest in. Talk about with Austin. I think the main point here defensive for the Bengals defensive coordinator has overseen a unit that has over the basically said NFL record a dubious record for the most yards given up over four consecutive games. Yes. Those are some of the most explosive offenses in the NFL in the chiefs the Steelers even the buccaneers in that obviously the saints, but I mean, pretty awful in despite even the yards John. No sacks not turn overs against the saints. No sacks not turnovers against the Steelers. Like, they're there to Saxon. Interception in garbage time against Kansas City. And you know, they did get to an create some turnovers in that bucket years game. But one three stretch awful football played on that side of the ball necessary move. Correct. I mean for sure. I remember retweeting something about a week or two ago about the three worst defenses in the in the NFL in terms of expected points allowed was chiefs the saints in the ranch, I think it was like three of the four whatever those are all the three best teams in the league. But they also have offenses that can carry the load if their defense given blood yards and obviously the Bengals offense right now it has been struggling since that lenna game. So when you combine the offensive struggles with the warlords defense may be the worst defense in the NFL was obviously recipe for disaster. And that's why you know terrorists had to be held accountable for his lack of game plans like Neil Integrion scheme with players. I think that was something that we also learned this week is that there was some finger pointing in the building about how Austin wasn't exactly connecting with his players. He was changing things to radically in. There wasn't a true connection in chemistry with his players in obviously that obviously huge issue because not only you have so many injuries on the defensive front. But if you can't get all the guys in the same on the same page. If you can't get for a single goal, and you have your skiing jumping around from week to week. Nothing's really set in stone. It's obviously a lot of confusion on the field can lead to a lot of big plays allowed. That's exactly what the the chiefs. The buccaneers in the saints did to them. And if it wasn't for James wants to completely imploding, first half. It could have been allowed worse at this point. Awesome might have gone fired at the by week, which would have made a lot of sense because they would have been Ford four what had a tumultuous blown leader, whatever. But yeah, the the move was necessary, and it was refreshing to see the Bengals do this. I think these I expected that a gala Jim has would be the one promoted defensive coordinator. So then you know, having Marvin takeover as the defective defensive coordinator was also good move because no just an early signs of practicies connecting with the defensive players on a more personal level. I guess in in terms of going over them just the basic tackling techniques. It just looks like he's more comfortable with. Being in a role that he obviously has experienced in well experience with so both of the moves I think netted positive results in the short term in for the best of their ability to kind of salvage what what group they have on defense. Yeah. I I like what you said about the offense. I'm going to actually talk about that just a second. But you also mentioned, you know, Austin maybe doing some things that would cause the defense to over think to over adjust not enough, judgments what whatever the case may be. But there was an interesting column by Albert breer of the Monday morning quarterback, which is part of Sports Illustrated. There were essentially there was a quote, he had those in the building saw Austin is a guy who put too much volume in too quickly was too reactionary on week to week basis which kept the unit from developing an identity, and then he quoted somebody else a bangles staff member saying that it was it had become a disaster..

"I just I just can't say within the conference of they're going to win. So the very well could because of a couple of things with chiefs pass defense in with don's playing. But until happens it, I just can't expect it. So thirty one twenty chiefs. I'm gonna say this. You said, is this a game? The Bengals could win? Yeah, for sure. I think they can win. I think that this city team is very beatable. They're very, very, very good. But the very beatable. I think a lot of factors going against its natty this week in think. I do think that if the Bengals end up pulling this one out, that's. That's that's a pretty big season Shifter if they can win this game both for primetime TV purposes beating a very good team on their turf rebounding from the Steelers. I mean, if they could do all of that, that's that's impressive. I'm gonna say this. I don't think they win. I think very well can I think it's probably going to be like a twenty six twenty three or thirty to twenty seven, something like that. I think it's going to be a fun game. These can be entertaining the Bengals of show that they will be in almost every single game late. And I think that's gonna. Would this going to be what happens here? Whether that means we're going to experience similar heartbreak to what transpired last week or just the Bengals not being able to close out or what have you, I think is going to be very close, tough venue. I will sit as Andy Reid has a lot of Marvin Lewis DNA in him as a head coach is a guy who does not always win. The big games is a guy that has not necessarily done well in the playoffs. He's done better than Marvin Lewis in the playoffs. But there there is a lot of Marvin Lewis, ish stuff going on there. Oregon, you could say there's a lot of Andy Reid, ish stuff going on there. Andy Reed's been around for while so. You know, I would not be surprised if the Bengals pulled this one out based on last week based on the injuries based on Brian Jones sit. I just. They and the team, the plan. I don't know if I see it, but that's that's kinda that's kind of how I see things going. I see Michael Myers, twenty twenty one twenty eight chiefs. I sell some other people that are saying Bengals Bengals Bengals. So that's kind of interesting who knows. You know, the rebound we'll see is the orange black ever. Bangles podcast. Andy Reid versus Barbara. Lewis flip. Donald trust of just, yeah, in a place in Harry south. That's that's also another factor that kind of opens the door a little bit, but still it's it's one of their biggest proven games of the year. I said that last week in just tell us a lot about what the steam released quickly. If the bagels say, saved the Bengals play competitive game, it's pretty close. They end up losing in going to foreign three. How do you, how do you feel about them going for? I feel they can still make the playoffs, but I would still have the same minimal conference. They can do anything once there. Yep. That's, you know, in. It, it stinks it. That's where we're at. But you know, usually a team that has two poor seasons in a row. It rebound nicely start off pretty well. You know, usually like, hey, we can make playoffs, maybe make a run, but we've seen this song and dance before we have..

"And then you know, there are other times especially early in the game where it wasn't working very well in the Bengals kind of abandoned things in the third quarter on the ground, which you know was not good. Obviously, Mark Walton was was ineffective. Definition of irony. You talk about how the Bengals should have scored more than twenty one points in the game in the Marvin Lewis era. If I'm if I remember correctly based on, I think some something that our good friend James routine throughout their the Bengals had never scored more than twenty points against the Steelers in the Marvin Lewis era, they scored twenty one to go up in less than a minute half and they still lose. It's not the nineties anymore. Teams just averagely. Oh, hi, twenty points gave you can't win games like this. And I think I think your point about mixing his is really evident in that first drive of the of the second half in and there's a lot number one Eriksson gets a fifty yard fifty one yard kickoff return, which is awesome. Sets the Bengals very well. The bangles are then in a third one, third and two, I believe they don't get it and they're in Steelers territory, bad weather, did it? I it where you say, hey, where at home, you know we put, but. I just I feel like the crossing routes in out routes, devoid. The short ones were dull day. I think he got AJ green up. There mixing can do a number of different things. And I think that if you can't get a yard and a half two yards on your home turf, maybe you don't deserve to win, but that that is a spot. I think that is a spot that many fans questioned. Why Marvin Lewis did not go for it. And I think also the big thing the the Bengals had big, big, big momentum going in and out of halftime. Because of that last last second touchdown, stay score right before the half. So your thoughts in your analysis of that drive in and other situations in the game where you may be thought, Marvin, grow, pair. Let's let's let's do this and you know, kind of imposed a will even if it leads to feel goal or two field goals, you get some points. You're in a different situation at the end of the game it captured in. I'm glad you brought probably should've mentioned with I point. But yeah, that's another gigantic reason why they lost because they accepted defeat in the I can't. I can't beat around the Bush with that point if you punt from within your own fifty, our line three times during the game, and one of those sitting only twenty yards gave a feeble on the defensive. Dr anyways, that's accepting the feet you're playing not to lose at home. I don't. I don't understand I, it's, it's, it's been tally. It's it. It's mental. It's mental shrink, nece a word. I'm solely flabbergasted because it's just a constant issue under Marvin Lewis. Just it's not going to get better until it does, and he's shown no signs of ever doing anything better in. It's always against the Steelers. It's always this shrinking in big moments in just not, you know, the ant, the anti thesis of Sean McVeigh basically who two weeks ago. Was playing at at central stadium in Seattle yet a fourth one situation as as the forty anyone for any got it in the in the end up winning the game. Because after the game he says, we don't fear failure. I can't say the same thing about Marvin Lewis. Definitely. When he plays the Steelers team that he just can't be with sixty five thousand fans supporting him right there. I don't. I'll never understand it, but I will always expected to this because it's just it's just not going to change until it does while drawn. You're, you're the king of the segue. We're gonna. We're gonna get to another question about this Steelers game in and this hold unquote rivalry in just a second. This is the orange black insider Bengals podcast. He's John cheering on the Zaza and we're breaking down the Bengals heartbreaking loss twenty twenty one against the Steelers hard-fought game, but Bengals still manage to come up short for a variety of different reasons. We're gonna open up the phone lines just a few minutes here and the text line. If you wanna get in touch with us nine four, nine, five, four..

"Number nine, four, nine, five, four to six, two, four one. If you wanna get in touch with us just a couple of news nort's notes before we get to some calls in listener questions. The Bengals signed because of the unfortunate injury to Ryan Glasgow who headed playing well, a rotational basis for the Bengals season ending the knee issue for him. The Bengals signed former Ohio State star. Adolf's Washington, your thoughts on on him, John Evans, scouting reports or anything on him. Yeah. So last week I wouldn't to Penn station Clifton. There's a is a sign autographs picture of Washington in Ohio State uniform. I just found that the went, he's high school. They look here in Cincinnati, had to be part of the reason why he was at the top list of the guys that they would bring in once Wrangler. Go went out and I personally love stand around injury Brown, pick, but it's clear that after missing off really season in training camp in Mexican cut, then I'm back on the practice squad. If you didn't get on now. Clearly he's not ready. But Washington comes in with a couple years of experience. I think some people in buffalo thought that this was the year he broke out. But unfortunately, the reason who was raped after we won picked up by the Cowboys. I do think that there is some athletic upside to this. I think naturally he's more of a three technique. Fifth Glasgow was even if Glasgow to his credit was kind of come. Onto that penetrated role? I don't think he's gonna play too much this week. He might. I have no idea, but I think there is some upside to just because he was talented, you know, even if he didn't produce that much on Italian often flying the highest death. Flow was so might as well. So. Yeah, he should be able to to contribute on some in some capacity for the Bengals right away. I would think. Yeah, a lot of people were disappointed in the Andrew Brown thing, but you know, it is what it is, and you know the Bengals won't guys with NFL experience guys come in now, like I said, this is a pretty pretty young roster in some spots, but best best of luck ahead. Best of recovery head for Ryan as. You know, he started to he was making plays last week even though it didn't always show it, you know, pre- pretty decent football player. Good rotational backup guy that the Bengals would probably miss special because of that depth. We did get a couple of calls. Please call back if you can. We're talking some news notes before we get out of here. The other thing on your on the Bengals front. It looks as if yes, suppliers are dinged up, but yes, some of them are coming back. Marvin Lewis noted that the progress of aged green, Joe makes an ability prices. Something very positive by all indications seem as if agent green is going to play Sunday after that groin issue kept him out of the second half of the panther's game, not sure yet about mixing and price. If you're asking me now in get your thoughts on this to John. If you're asking me now, I say green plays mix of maybe in prices probably one more week away, but that's just me totally looking in on me outside where it, what do you think? Yes, I would probably agree with that. Like how controlled us all during back practice in full pads just went straight to the rehab fields. So that was. I was kinda crew on their part, I guess. But yeah, I think I definitely makes a coin flip just because he said he could practice or could play last week if he wanted to. But obviously didn't. I think Thomas Rawles to becoming back. So maybe they don't wanna play mixing up until I, I guess, Miami. I think prices gonna continue to stay out. They're gonna have Hopkins at center, but I, they might put it up to green honestly, because if he was out there in full code factors practice in the aging dusty practice, but this this is a personal game for green because this family is going to be in Atlanta. He grew up in Somerville, really close to it. He's going up against his counterpart in twenty seven drafts Julio Jones. I think that that is going to push greens health to where it needs to be..

"Mitchell. Even if you don't get a contract, you really wanna play special teams not eat like a major part of on defense, they they would benefit him being at. They have three solid safeties with federal being the guy behind both base Williams. So I think it was just more of, you know, pencil signing as guys as leader in in the secondary where the really young back there as a player. I don't think he has much left to give. Honestly, I'm not a fan of the way he plays the game because of what the countless examples of evidence against him as a as a head hunter back there. But yeah, I wouldn't. I wouldn't support it for that reason also because I think things are better at safety now than what they were in the past couple years. But. I'm not saying disagree with anything you said because I don't, but the Bengals to me, I've always. I've always said they've had very, very, very big troubles in beating the Steelers, and I'm alive always. I've always kind of been if you can't beat them, join them play their style football. They play in my opinion, sometimes as dirty if not more than some of the things we've seen from some Bengals players in the past, and maybe they just do not get as penalized or not as notice or what have you. But. Brings physicality. He brings playoff experience, playoff winning experience. He brings AFC north experience even if he's a rotational guy and in a spark plug of the guy in the locker room is at worth it if it's like a vet minimum or because here's the thing too is when you bring guy like that on your either. I aren't someone cutting some wine, whatever. So there could be a decent player that had been both get rid of for him, which is it's tough to, you know, way that, but. We know that there's some limitations now because of age in some other things as a player. But as a locker room guy, maybe a spot contributor, maybe a fresh start in a different defense. Is that something where you go? Well, maybe I gotta say if he does get signed by the Bengals I'd probably go back and delete some tweets of my on my Twitter account. Does. Yeah, I haven't been very complimentary of Mike Mitchell, but this is this is kind of what I what I fell and unfortunately didn't work out so great. But this is kinda what I found in the Bengals signed James Harrison. If a few years ago now I feel that the Bengals didn't use him to respect strengths because the next the next year he went to the Steelers was pretty good. But I just, I don't know. I kinda see like, hey, maybe there's a different kind of value there. Yeah, the difference Mitchell's that you know, he's not gonna join the Bengals leave in somehow revives crew bag with the steals Elsie that happening. But again, big picture if they bring Mitchell end up cutting, Brandon Wilson, don't think it makes that big of difference for the overall impact of the defense. I like Brandon Wilson, but he's not really gonna play any any much on defense if he does the probably bring the same impact as might Mitchell pre similar at their respective points in their careers. But again, to your point when the Bengals try in the Bengals one time try to play to the Bengals or flow in terms of physicality end losing a playoff game, and I'll just leave it at that..

"Say ESPN. I've got something else I want to ask you guys because while the Bengals are Super Bowl bound and we can just put that aside, there is nothing uncertain about that book. It you book the Bengals going Super Bowl. Why not? Yeah. I mean, we've got the stats to. We've got the stats to back it up, right? Good Lord yet. I mean, has there ever been a book that no one buys is serious more than that one. God love, but the Bengals I'm telling you it's a more interesting team in division right now that until we get that Steelers performance, that makes us all feel comfortable again because that tie week one is going to stick in the craw of a lot of people. We're going to feel some type away, but I want to get this out there because I have a very interesting question for everybody. So saw story yesterday. That Nick young challenge Gilbert arenas to three point shooting contest. Now when push came to shove Gilbert arenas showed up, Nick young did not. The difference is Gilbert arenas. Not only showed up, but showed up ready. Gilbert arenas showed up to the gym with a hundred grand in cash in a bag in a duffel bag. That's a level of confidence that I feel like few of us get to emulate. I read a book called thinking in bets and the whole concept was we all have strong opinions that Bengals opinion right there. If you asked me to put any real amount of money that matter to me on there, I would wilt I would crumble under that sort of pressure Gilbert arenas so confident by the way they said he's responded because Nick young didn't show up made ninety five of one hundred three's when he went in the gym. So you can see why that brings one hundred cash hundred grand in cash in a duffel bag. Is there anything you have ever been so confident in yourself in that you would have to defend your own honor shown up with a hundred grand in cash in a duffel bag. Is there anything ever in your life that you thought? I'm so good. I got. I.

"Is the best I n last the podcast. Wow. Going through it here this morning. I have stumbled across thanks to our fine people at ESPN, stats and info. Some information about the Cincinnati Bengals that already has them Super Bowl bound and after last night, I don't know if last night typical enigmatic Bengals performance. I watched last night. And if you watch for a half of the game, you think, man, this is a Bengals team that might actually be able to do something in a year where it seems like the Steelers, at least right now have some mystery, some uncertainty surrounding their immediate future because when you tie the Browns, anything seems possible. And then you watch the rest of the game for the Bengals and you start to see them allows them things into the frame that look a little bit more normal for them. Now the Cincinnati Bengals did go on and get a win last night in in Thursday night football, they beat Baltimore and a division game thirty four to twenty three in a game where they got out to. About as hot start as you could ask for from this team and that start had everything to do with AJ green who got in the end zone early and often hear the sounds of AJ green courtesy of Andy, Dalton, Donald, throw it on third and one his pass on and traffic. Jay toward the end zone touchdown, bang Dole's as a j. Green broke a tackle about two yards downfield and then opened up the long race bowl stri to take it into the end zone shotgun, snap, Dalton in the pocket, throws it toward the left side of the zone a. j. green first time it is magnificent. NFL career has three touchdowns in a game, and it's only two minutes into the second quarter. Those calls of ESPN fifteen thirty. As you can imagine there about anything other than AJ green, the home radio call is electric. What a, what? A beautiful sanctuary.
