"To shop girls on my talk one of seven one I'm Alli Kaplan with my mom harmony well did you hear mom I mean I'm glad that the new sounds good for for locals at least some locals we'd love to hear from you retailers and I have to tell you about an event coming up but the bad news does seem to continue for retail into twenty twenty Barney is which has just been such as fads Lole slide into oblivion they stop selling online in their online sales add to our Barneys dot com and Barney's warehouse dot com if you were regulars still have some well all the stories that I mean do you know I was in Chicago over the holidays and walks by and the signs are still there and it's just black it's close yeah right at the end of oak street you know the man gorgeous Barney's store you know Fred the restaurant the whole thing it's really the signs are still up and it's just empty yeah so and there are a few stores that remain yes they're continuing the clearance and close out through January and into February and then that's going to be at I know I would be surprised given the power that kind of like what happened with Henri Bendel if even though they couldn't find a buyer if somebody wants to buy that name at a certain way there talk about their wives but all of the talks have fallen through so we'll see while I have to say you know I love Chicago I I mean it's always fun to be downtown and walk around was like sixty degree yeah this helps no I miss the ice storm here in Minnesota but you know walking on Michigan Avenue it doesn't feel that different than walking through a mall these days or you know well I mean even if you think about like I mean water tower is so and I mean like there are so few interesting stories I think about some of the like really you know boutiques that you didn't see a lot of different places that used to be there they're all gone you know the nine hundred north Michigan building where Bloomingdale's is Bloomingdale's looks great yeah but with so many empty yeah many of the buildings when I think about like where the S. got a store used to be right on Michigan across from water tower it's now over Reisen I mean surely like all honestly the only store that I get excited to go in on Michigan Avenue these days is uniqlo which we still don't have here and still has no interest in coming here and I think could possibly save Nicolette mall but that's another during one store well I mean I think you could tell me yeah something like that to get it started to jump start and bring the energy to Nicolette and then others want to come but there's so few exciting source I did go into the groups store group has a story I know works I did not remember when did they open a store in Chicago I do not remember that I am and I think it's probably I think most of their stores they consider temper like they call them yeah I don't know how long it's there but oak street is you know the designers right or that's where you know Prada is and leave a time and and you know that the more upscale stores Tory Burch is there and so group is there when did it become a sign of coolness to have your sales associates dressed in lake jumpsuits like they work at a auto parts store and like a mechanic when that became a popular way to dress so it is clearly like the sign this is cool and you are not willing it also because they have done a lot of CA dot did it you know glossy a does right right they've got that part I don't know if it's still open in Boston but they're all in you know pink I'm you know jump and the group sales associates who were friendly okay were friend they were friendly they are in navy jumpsuits matching all of them okay yeah what kind of shoes or boots yeah let come combat boots sort of thing yeah it is to see the men sitting in the middle in the chairs is kind of hilarious and I'm a little disappointed that Gwyneth didn't come up with something better to do with the men and I shares your day a little careful with small children because there is a section for personal care products very cute great gift ideas guys seriously bounce ideas coming they're just they're package so what that there might be things with batteries there are books there are men's there are just that let me re fun enjoy a full but when you are with your eleven year old and fifteen year old and they've got some questions you know how the I'd like you to answer right you know of everything group you know books and kids stuff and apparel and you know it's just like stepping in to Gwyneth world was not there no she wasn't there no sorry he shot at yeah you know the other store and I was thinking that was on Michigan Avenue that was always fun to go into is All Saints all scenes is now over near oak street they've been lonely I didn't move I still I do and that's another yeah yeah that's another story I wish we had since since is good yeah leather jackets great dresses and they have men's apparel too you can chop them online but yeah that's it I mean I think does Nordstrom carried a little bit of all scenes I can't remember so here was the other funny thing we talked about how Starbucks was taking over the flag ship creek is that a few weeks ago Meryl started in Chicago it's a Chicago brand they had a huge like for five star rating level flagship for as long as I can remember right on the corner one on Michigan Avenue like Kitty corner from Neiman Marcus they closed not entirely sure why I'm guessing just you know real estate doesn't make sense they don't need to be there or if you're getting married you're still going to register whether or not they're on Michigan Avenue probably just not worth it anyway Starbucks took over right the green beryl store to open the Starbucks rose three I believe the largess Starbucks anywhere right I have a few of them in the line and they have a few others but this was going to be yeah I was the biggest store walking up Michigan Avenue it's after dinner.

"One I'm Alli Kaplan with my mom harmony we've got a big show today do retail rock stars in person on the line really excited to to talk to you about a lot of things going on we're gonna talk to Michael dry skin a little later this hour if you didn't see the news I posted it on and you can get it through my Instagram Twitter all the social channels about his new store that's opening this week we're gonna talk to him about that next hour we're going to talk to on the Sony a receipt will you know unique markets is coming back to town tomorrow I do know that yes have you been before I have well has it been here more than one year yeah and people time some yeah we told oh okay well maybe I'll take you so that's happening tomorrow it's a really fun pop up an interesting that you know as some of the market's kind of start to transform and go away this one is still going strong we're gonna talk to Sonya who has one happening there in LA today and then she's gonna fly here for the one in Minneapolis tomorrow so we'll talk to her one day yeah just one day rates so so we'll tell you about that well some retail headlines this week that we should get to the one that really got me it just makes me sad and it's like wow nobody is immune Barney's yeah the clearing things up the first time no it is a it is an ideal send once interesting is it it really seems in all the stories from The New York Times on down really make it sound like it was this insane increase in rent rent their flagship store in Manhattan going from like sixteen million dollars which try to apprehend around that to thirty million dollars well I thought it was even more that was three hundred did I make that I think you had it is zero okay using double what it's a lot yeah nobody but their rent almost doubled in the million that's why so many flagship stores have closed on Fifth Avenue right lord and Taylor close right right and also interesting about you know I I saw some discussion in business publications about these big name retailers that don't own their own stores right and what can happen then and I don't know exactly why in the rent went up quite that much I think there was some sort of ordinance or something in New York that allow them to find the I have held it where it was and then it went up but no question there is a left foot traffic than there once was people aren't buying the way they once did and the brands that you know it Barney is if if you're not from I mean they they were sort of the cutting edge right they were first yeah so many even you know more radical ideas and everything you think of like a store where like you'd walk into a stark room and there's just one thousand dollar leather jacket like that's Barney said he could do that and get away with it and create this like you know really exclusive experience and you went there to really find out what was next well now hold the you know the internet is what's next yeah and you know another thing in business a fashion they were also talking about you know obviously the changing consumer tastes but they also said that Barney's didn't really adapt to the changing lanes landscape of that remember the racial profiling they did of some black customers yeah they were also carrying limited sizes yes spike the fact they said the sixty seven percent of women in the US now we wear a size fourteen or larger yeah you know so I mean some of what they did might have been there was no fault yeah really snobby yep yes yep so they're not going away and in fact they are supposed to be opening up a smaller footprint store at the new American dream now you know that's the girl Maisie in town right which owns the mall of America they have been working on this American dream is that the one in Vegas no it is in New Jersey New Jersey yes and it is finally after I don't know it seems like a decade yeah it's finally supposed to open this fall and Barney's is supposed to be opening there and they say they're going to that will still open their closing fifteen of their twenty two stores right so they're basically will be focused on New York and on a couple of special flagship are they keeping Chicago did it say actually he no no really they're closing including Chicago Las Vegas in Seattle while also the nine Bernice warehouse stores yeah they'll keep the that's a bummer your love is thirty laps I know LA and Boston the only place I could even attempt to pretend like I can buy anything less there once I remember yeah yes you still have that I think it's in my closet although I don't know why well it really closet overhaul my goodness would you like me to come and do I yeah sure you the one person I would probably lead in there okay after I still let me afterwards yeah but if you really you are desperate they will still be on line at Barneys dot com yeah and Barney's warehouse dot com will still be quiet is just you know it's it's yeah it's it's just yeah then it locally a very small blip but you know it's funny I well I did go and we talked about it last week it was the uptown art fair I went Saturday afternoon was hot and sunny I'm like today and you know we were walking up my son and I were walking you know in front of Calhoun square in just looking cross and there was some like the local coal working thing that was being demo the in the former north face please and you know and then all who wear across the soldier eat and I you know and it's funny because I looked at the stores that are still in Calhoun square you know Sephora in H. and M. and timberland and arc Terex which is this very high and all that how to pronounce it I mean I think it's arc Terex very high and outer wear and I just was thinking ha I bet they were expecting something different from uptown I wonder how long they'll hang on not well very long at all maybe couple weeks because and and it's funny because first I got the press release that said arc Terex is opening at mall of America and I thought I bet you arc'teryx is also closing in got that little bit didn't mention that part and sure enough that is indeed what they are doing what I move I did not really I was not really familiar with their whole story yeah but there another one that you know sustainability is important in their environmental footprint and all of that so they're coming this fall yes to mall of America as is Canada Canada groups right right and then that got me thinking about as coffin listen which is doing their own right parka and I thought oh okay I mean is that going to be there only thing that they do our public press releases are read it made it sound like that's what they're saying here house is insured yeah that many well I mean if if if ever there was a market that we are you can I sell all you know if there's anything that Minnesotans are going to invest in yeah clothing why is you know I think it's going to be a really good was Jack get I think we've seen that as you know just in general Canada goose I mean a lot of those Cosell for over a thousand dollars right and they sell here very well you know everywhere from Nordstrom so it makes perfect sense that brands like that want to have a presence here and I think mall of America I just go back to that has been really smart about grouping them all together in there really creating like a corridor of you know outer wear winter apparel stores you know they've got Columbia they've got to what you call it what's that what's the of their own by Columbia that I was sore Sorel north face is there and that you know mall of America is becoming the destination if you want to go shopping for your winter apparel of course you're gonna go there because you have every major brand in a line you know if you want to ask well right but but I'm I I think the point is we know that the market has proven that people will pay for it so I guess in that way you could say it's smart I mean going up against you know Patagonia north face and all of these big brands he was a little daunting but that's never scared the Dayton's but our but I am like Eric to let me know yeah well when it gets a little closer haven't understood in all of the time that I've been reading about this is if all of those T. shirts that I used to buy for my son that I really love there and all the north hats and all is there really going to be nothing but these winter they haven't fully explained I know we'll we'll we'll go right to the source and get the get the scoop when they get a little closer right now there is sort of the I I got an email from them this week so in on their website they really have I mean if there's nothing there is just in in email to sign up it says the warm keep cold climate positive winter outerwear is coming November two the nineteen and I can sign up now for access to their pre lunch if you want to be among the the first huh so okay maybe I'll get more news soon yes we will keep you posted on that meanwhile target had some really interesting news about a partnership that may or may not surprise you we think it well we will discuss it and let's just say it involves a very famous denim line we'll get to that right after this you listening to shop girls on my talk when a seven one the clean and Bradley shall.

"And I had this experience and we married a couple. They were the girl had been our nanny and she met her husband on tint tendering, and that point tender was sort of very much just for sex. Literally this lot. And I talked about the slogan. Is there like the Tinder success story? Yeah, the pioneers, I should like Tinder is like the in their service. I said, tender makes no bones about it. It's like there's someone around the corner. There's someone over there if you're into it and that's it. We're not promising. This isn't magic intended and go right back, but I got good people can meet anywhere. And in the right intentions take you anywhere. So it doesn't really matter. You know. Sometimes you maybe wanna hook up with somebody and you meet them feel differently. So it an still reflected in. There's had Had that. we cut that out, but you know, they're really, they're funding also like, you know, when we do what we do, you speak publicly rarely ends in somebody else getting something good out of it. You know, it's usually like, and thank you. Hold on. I love. I love your wedding that you guys. I think this is a great idea, which is the engagement slash surprise wedding. Yeah. So you invite people to the engagement party and. Has them. I wasn't surprised. Yes, I was in on it. Gaijin party. That's a lot of things that stars do. A lot of ours do that. It's like they be anyone trying to ruin it for them exactly what the economics of it that Greg. Good, like, and the other thing about that. I didn't realize talking to my other friend who's engaged, and I was like, okay, you know, I'm very bold about saying I would like to be invited. I'm letting you know now, then you can't say, oh, I didn't know that you wanna be. I wanna be invited k. and she said, well, we'll probably get married in a small family thing, but we're gonna have a party. She's like, but I, I don't want to tell the venue, whatever that it's a wedding reception party because up there. Say it's a party? Yeah. Then they'll charge you the party prices exac. I never thought of that. And when you guys chose the restaurant, you're like, okay, the tables are said there's already allows entities. Is there a working kitchen, not bringing the kitchen into someone's family home, the caters, and it was really fun because you know, people were there and it was cashless fun, and it was that thing. And then all of a sudden we ran chairs and changed clothes and came down and people were completely surprised. Rest stories. Amazing. It was. It was miraculous hells address story. Okay. So I, I never dreamed of like the big white Shabangu the wedding dress situation. And so when I was. When I was looking at, you know, dresses I found the stress at Barney's. That was really, really beautiful. And it wasn't a wedding dresses evening, gown type of thing. And I saw an and it was, you know what color was sorta started like as a laboratory slate, gray and it was, but it was sort of like share with crystal sewn underneath it. So they would kind kinda catch like his really, really beautiful, but it was nearly nearly like ten thousand dollars at the time which was eighteen years ago. Right? And I don't want to spend that much money on address. I'm gonna wear once. So I kept looking and I didn't look in whatever anyway, cut two months later, the Barneys warehouse sale at the San Mateo Erhard airport was happening and the hanger. Mazing. So Greg and our friends? Yeah, down with their. Branding off bears. Hans ask their hold onto somebody what's going on back. It's been. Yeah. All right in the island. Okay. But is that they were ended up getting my one hundred ninety? Nine dollars in my found the dress, my dress hundred. Nine. You found the dress and it was one hundred. I did. You pee in your pants? I was just like it was so serendipitous because it was the only dress I had said I could see myself getting married in that dress and tell me the whole thing. The parties to the Greg hall, Greg, and Paul went to the men's section my Jackie, and I went to the lady section and I went straight to the former s.'s. Right. I do. I shoes dresses. That's where I go..
