The film was awesome which the white man calls the saint regis reservation on this line long before the two countries decided to draw line between themselves. Michael was part of what is known as the indian film crew. It was the first all indigenous unit at the fbi. The use of the word indian was a product of the time. So i'm using it in a historical context i'm talking about quote unquote indian as in indigenous. So michael was one of seven indigenous members. Who made up the indian film crew. There was also dibwe filmmaker roy daniels. Tom o'connor snobby. Barbara wilson who has haida north star blanket cree and magma filmmakers morris isaac and willie done so the crew represented many nations members also created a number of important works documentaries like these are my people. What to Do When You Can't Find God

"Several years ago i read a book by a j swoboda called the dusty ones in it. He shares a story about his from high school whose name was stew. Stew met jesus through his friendship with jay and they quickly became zealous. An excited together. They read the bible. They prayed in front of lockers. And stu felt close to god in those days will soon. Aj lost touch after graduation as often happens in about ten years later they reconnected and that was when aj learned that statue no longer called himself a christian because once he went off to college he stopped feeling the presence of now. I'm not here to debate the reality of stews relationship with god or the validity of his conversion or even the role of feelings as they mix with our faith. But what i do wanna talk about. Is this experience. That many friends of jesus either have gone through are going through or will go through and that is the experience of the loss of the felt presence of god. The truth is we won't always feel god's presence. I know some believers who say they've never really felt god's presence. I don't want that to be true but it is true. The good news is this is nothing new. For generations and generations christians have wandered through the wilderness have walked through. The valley of the shadow have navigated life in the midst of difficulty loss and seemingly impossible circumstances. If you are walking through your own wilderness right now. You are not alone even if you feel alone. Saint john of the cross called his experience of not feeling god's presence a dark night of the soul martin. Luther called it. The scandal of god's hidden nece and barbara brown taylor in her book learning to walk in the dark. She says no. One chooses the dark knight. The dark night descends.

Practicing Love and Kindness Meditation

"I do loving kindness meditation which i do and it's just me generating or tending to generate Some friendliness goodwill et cetera et cetera. Alone in a chair. I don't sit on a cushion. Qasem nearly fifty enough very limber. That is not love or positively resonance as you would describe it. It's good but not your definition of love right but it sets you up for positively residents later in the day when you do interact with others. We found that in our research the more time people spend in seeded formal meditation practicing loving kindness on later brandon workday. They're more likely to share positive feelings with a work colleague so that was a really early study that we had done and more recently. We found that the amount of time you put into formal practice of either loving kindness or mindfulness. Meditation there's a dose response relationship between the minutes that you spend in meditation and the degree to which you show increases in your own positive emotions but also in these positive social connections with others. Because you've changed how you arrive at. Those interactions with people is loving kindness. Meditation is just getting us to retrain ourselves from just total self-absorption in west to being a little more other focused and to remind ourselves that other people are here to you know not so wrapped up and one's own agenda or store your needs and so the more you practice the more you're able to kind of meet somebody where they are create this positive connection on the kushner on the chair practicing. That's kind of tuning years. Human instrument to create this more readily when you are in interaction so it's not an all chopped liver it sound preparatory.

Pressure Builds Over Restrictive Voting Bills in Texas

"Prominent Texas corporations this week joined the call to protect voting rights, and that drew a verbal tirade from Governor Greg Abbott. We have American airlines, we have a TNT. We have a Dell computers away and others who have taken a position against the election law reforms we met in the state of Texas work, the C E O tzar of these companies and the leaders of these companies admitted. I had no idea what the Texas lost said, or whether Texas proposed law say before taking a position against it. They need to stay out of politics, especially when they have no clue what they're talking about. Grassroots opposition to these bills continues to grow on Thursday about 100 voting rights activists gathered outside the 18 T corporate headquarters in downtown Dallas. As Kate, You're raised. Christopher Connelly reports. It's part of a statewide campaign to pressure corporations to oppose Republican bills that would make it harder to vote. The activists want to send a message stand on the side of voting rights or be party to an ugly new chapter in Texas history. So why? "And supporting your good friends and family. You Might WanNA listen to this. Here's a lady who is phenomenal. But what she getting out of it. She's in a lot of pain listening. Hi Barbara My name is Linda. I'm from Oregon. I'm so glad that you have this advice line. Because I'm looking for some advice. I have a interesting relationship with my younger sister. I've acted as a pseudo parent to her. Most of we were younger and a little bit in adult life. 'cause we're almost eight years apart and my mom was alcoholic so things were pretty rough growing up but I feel like I am a really giving person and they feel like I still give a lot and help her and she's had some health issues and I always drop everything and run over there and help and support. Her and hot. Yesterday was my birthday and I got to word tax happy birthday. She didn't call so I don't know whether to actually approach err on this and say you know it really hurts my feelings when you don't seem to really show that much effort and as me being your sister or if that just makes me look weak and needy. I did go through a pretty bad divorce last year. So I've been kind of hanging out by myself a lot and I don't have a lot of family so I would appreciate you know some people reaching out to me but like sometimes you support other people and then time for them to support you. You don't get that back. So what is your take on how you would deal with that? Would you say something or would you not thank you so much? So you're younger. Sister has had the good fortune of having you step in the place of your mom who is unable to be a great mom. Am I right? Yeah Okay with the age difference between you. You're probably a little young to be stepping into the shoes of that responsibility I would think. Did you feel like it was okay to just step in and be You sisters surrogate mom from the GECKO. Yeah I'm the middle daughter of three. My older sister was kind of off choosing adventure and she was always gone so the middle child is often negotiator and all that and so. I just was always in that role kind of had the middle child roll. 'em The old child ruled by sister was gone so yeah it's just kind of been that way you don't strike me. Olinda Zien very upset about that era. Okay with all that usually depends on the day but I having a bad day. What they called you about it. I'm happy you did actually because I know so. Many people not in the exact same circumstance but another version of the same thing. And it's a tough one. I don't think it's easy. It is very tough. I'm a good person. I'm kind of a nice person to a lot of people and you know you can't get taken advantage of and with family. It's even harder because newest. Forgive them so I don't know if I need to be tougher on them and stand up for myself more or if that's just the way it is because the family roles I think with family. What happens is you get a larger share of guilt or self questioning or Monday morning. Quarterbacking on each move you make because he will not only wanted to do the best for the person but you tend to put yourself aside as doing the best for yourself. That comes later. Yeah for all of us. I think managing complicated relationships with family members is always more complicated because the black and white lines are so clearly drawn and euros trying to define the lines for yourself and they move around a lot on it you know. Yes they do. So I'm going to give you a perspective of an outsider. Maybe just as good as any outsider on the street and maybe hopefully a little better. We'll see I'm going to suggest to you that you're not the sister. You're the mom if I were to close my ears to the words in your question to me on eight. Barbara's saying I have a problem. This is my sister. I would not have thought that this was anything. But the mother calling in of. Who's having a problem with her relationship with her daughter? So you stepped into the shoes of a mother who is unable to care for you in the way that most children need desperately need good for your bravery maturity and you're good soul that you stepped into those shoes without even blinking and took on the role of a very capable mom. However now your daughter and I'll call your sister. Your daughter doesn't really appreciate you and you're having a hard time understanding why you might be angry on one hand but then you're also so nice that you explain it away the next day so you go back and forth back and forth and that's exactly what happens when you try to define lines among family members. Your sister think of her as a daughter if she was your daughter and she wasn't appreciating you. And you were doing all the things you do for her. I would suggest probably. She's a little of that. My right yeah. How old is your sister? Oh She's in her fifties you kidding. She's enough fifties yes. I thought she was twenty three. So you've been doing this for fifty years More or less all my and you're laughing you've got to have the biggest heart that God has ever given out. Here's what I would suggest. Think of your fifty year old sister as you daughter and your hurled or mom by just so few years really okay. No longer theorizes sister. She's you daughter. How do you build a good relationship with her? I think the first thing you have to do is get out of the unhealthy hurtful relationship in and it's called in anybody's parlance enabler your neighboring her to be who she is and let her get away with fifty years and one conversation and going to change it I you have to pin the label on yourself which you can control as an enabler next. You have to go for help as enabler. There are so many support groups for people enabled people to drink people who naval people to abuse them. But they're all have one thing in common the giving more than the getting in and they're angry. I think you're more angry than you suspect you are. And I think it takes that birthday wish fee to realize how painful it is for you cured on your own working out an old tired relationship. That's dysfunctional without the help of a support group. I think you deserve much more than that. I think you deserve support group of friendship that are in the same boat as you. So sign up for Support Group. Go to the support group regularly. Surprisingly you'll find like minded people once you find a support group that you can go to once or twice a week you'll start to see yourself in everyone else in that room and you'll hear what they did to make it better. That's where I think you need. I think you need a support group of like minded souls for support and also for ideas. Yeah and then. I think you're going to get ready for a heart to heart conversation with your daughter in this case you call her sister. Okay I think you have to have that conversation but I think for you to go in it alone without an idea without a support group to go back and tell them how bad the first meeting went is too tough. Lastly you came through divorce recently. That's an enormous burden in life. And you would think that your daughter or in this case you call. Her sister would have been more empathetic and time for her to give you support. That hadn't happened. I think you need comfort in that and I think you're lonely in that as well. So it's a double header is a long and I can tell you from listening to you. Linda your sweetheart. You're the kind of person that is a treasure as a friend as a sister as a mother and you deserve to be treasure and that should be a goal. But you're gonNA need the help of like minded people to teach you how I think. Sometimes the strong people are the ones that don't get the kindness back because everybody's so used to them being the strong that helps everybody else and in times of need when the strong person needs. Oftentimes people don't know how to give it to them. I guess can I tell you Linda? Spot on and there's a lot of people in your club namely me. I'm a good member of strong. Everybody Leans on me and expect very little back. But let me tell you when someone reaches out. Hugs me and says to me. I know how you feel before I start to cry and I realize how much I needed someone who say that and hug me exactly and you deserve that and I think you need to cry a little bit and get that love and support somehow and I think you really need to go to something that suits enablers to help you do that. Please don't cheat yourself out of that. You deserve that. Thank you so much. It means a lot. I think you're wonderful. I see you on the show. And you're so loving and sweet but yet you're tough and that's kind of how I feel about myself but I want to be more like you so you can be older sister. Who's coming online? I'm happy looking forward. And other just luminaries who have been through the hard and the highs and the lows and it's not the how. I built this podcast. I WANNA get at the heart of some of the more vulnerable things. And what did they learn from? So she's been great dispel. It's been soul food for me just as great for me as I hope my audience feels. I learn something every time and I also have a feeling of like. I'm not alone though. Of course we'll what's the reaction you're getting from women? It's been great. I can't complain. I have an incredible listenership. The reviews are my pay for doing it. When I get a woman who writes in and says you changed my life. I was giving give up and I didn't. I'm not really the star of this. Podcast is the woman I'm interviewing. So it's something she said or a story that she could relate to and I think if that helps you in any way then. That's great. Well it's not just starting the podcast that is important. But it's also what you bring out from the person you're interviewing. It sounds like you're very good at pulling out inspiration. Yeah you know and it got good. Is I stopped doing my research. No research whatsoever so you just sit in a chair and say so. Tell me about yourself the native curiosity I then have because I don't know brings that out in the storytelling in the way that my listeners like and you not worried that your listeners might know quite a few things more than you know just in the very beginning and you might look leave with most people that I'm interviewing at this point I know enough. It's not like I walk in blind. I'm like who are you? What's your name. I know enough that they know but then I wanted then find out the things that we both don't like a great discovery all right so super women. It's not just for entrepreneurs but if you're an aspiring entrepreneur you're GONNA learn a lot listening into right or if you're not an entrepreneur a really so you're trying to get people off the box of become entrepreneurs just door. People were really succeeded in life and tried their best in made something for themselves. Correct I think you can be any woman you can be a woman who doesn't work or housewives or wherever you are working in corporate America. I think the podcast has nuggets. That apply to everybody. So superwoman is.

"Someone recommended to me that I pay cash for only one week and I paid cash everything in one week and I was shocked at where money was going. That's for me was probably the only education I ever got in managing money just seeing where my money went in one given weak and it turned me around a bit. It made me feel like I had control of my money and then I started paying off my lowest credit card balances. I until I was able to pay off all those credit card balances but I was laid to learn it. So give yourself a break. How old did you say you twenty four? And you didn't learn from your parents got plenty of time to learn. But definitely nor Kevin's advice. You won't have a good life. You won't have nice clothes to wear. You won't really say how wonderful this life was when you finally die. Forget about it. Oh that's ridiculous Notch Service Raffaelle. Come on she is the site of darkness and evil. I am the light. Remember that God. Hi This is Rhonda from Marietta California. When is it appropriate to have relations after being widowed? Okay so her husband dies yes. There has to be a period of mourning respect. I would think a ninety day period of mourning and Celibacy would be appropriate ninety days. How did you arrive at that? I just thought in terms of you know the shock of a death in the families and friends and all the people want to take you out for dinner and stuff to help you with your morning. I don't think you want to be bringing dates out. At that time. I think it would be inappropriate and maybe people would think well. This is a little crazy. She's just lost her husband a week ago and she's dating somebody. I don't think so. I think three months is reasonable. What do you think not at all? I think the minute after your husband passes away the minute you're attracted to someone raises your eyebrows and He looks interesting. You're already ready. Nell period of mourning. That's dictated by anyways. It's nonsense if you're lonely and you're tracking to someone go for it. The only way to get over loneliness is love. Let's take a step further because she said relations which obviously can mean sex right. I state you're interested. That's exciting. You've got that you for you. I think it's wonderful. But I'm a not advocating sex on the first date I'm saying say look I'm interested in you and I'd like to see you again. Let's go out maybe on Friday. Maybe this Wednesday date and then it's really passionate but we're still not ready for the big move. I like the third day for Alexio. That's what I think is appropriate action on the third date. Really that builds momentum crescendo in with a great outcome and it's the beginning of a new relationship and of course you agreeing with Barbara. That's the way to do. I'm being entertained. Biljana degree I think the minute you feel like you WANNA have sex. You should just go and have sex. She's a single woman. Even though you call her a widow she has no commitment. And just make yourself happy. Life's too short. What if the next month? You'RE IN LA coughing United States. Gee shouldn't have waited. No no no. Just gotTa go on. Live Your Life. All this other stuff is nonsense but the most nonsensical part is that. You're giving love advice. I'm immensely romantic. And my advice is taken by millions of millennials. I really am very good. Study on how you should do courtship. You should listen to me. I would give you some great advice. Because I think these advice you're giving now is just Catastrophically bad you need to build momentum in a relationship you WanNa have a little something a certain genetic quals. I call it the little magic. The little something. You're waiting for that something. That the next State Allen's big third day guy. Then you know a lot about somebody. You actually got the call the pillars of building. Something special listen you know Mr Wonderful knows this is how you do it Barbara? You know you started out earlier on this podcast saying that you think that marriage after three years becomes business relationship shows okay. I'm talking about to you for a period the beginning. I'm giving you advice to really milk as much euphoria as you can get. Because don't worry reality is going to strike and the marriage is going to turn into what it really is a pillar of financial stability and that has merits too. But you know you've got to really think through you can't tell me. You have the same euphoria. After twenty years that you had the first time you met. I've met a lot of couples. I could keep that going. It's a different kind of love. It's a love built respect and financial strength. You're suggesting unhappy Romantic. I know many couples that are intensely. Romantic also deal with a Lotta friends. One of my friends have been divorced three times. And I'm giving them advice saying you should not get married again. I'm Barbara Cooley. Calling for door Delaware. Also wondering I'm a twenty two year old college student and I'll be graduating soon and going to physical therapy school and I do have amount of debt and I'm also really big on industrial. I was just wondering if I should continue investing in mutual funds stocks at young age when it's most opportune or if I should focus more on paying off by student loan debt any credit card debt I have etc. Thank you so much troy. I paid off my student loan debt when I was six years once I was working. You know what I did. I ran up credit card debt as a result of that I felt free and I just charged a lot more. I felt entitled if I had it to do over again. I would just pay that over the whatever lengthy period of time I had to pay it over and keep it because it kept me in check. Somehow I think it depends on your personality. Now I know Kevin's going to tell you pay off the student loan immediately and get your head straight. Are you GonNa say that tell you? Why student loans have actually gone to floating rate and while it's very easy to service them now as rates are low what people do is they. Don't take the opportunity to realize. Wait a second even if the student loan rates are four to five percent which is were they sort of are right now. You know hard. It is to find a fixed income security that gives you four point two percent pretty well impossible to find so the way you gotta look at. It is if you could pay that debt off faster. Get rid of it. You could then invest in things. That may be be better for you because you're actually giving somebody more than you can make in the market. Nobody can make four point two percent on a bond anymore. It's impossible as you're taking a huge risk or duration risks. I'm a big advocate. Now when you get these floating rates at four point two four point three I think I saw that was as high as six point two. Because they hadn't paid anything off in five or ten years. I'd get rid of that student. Loan particularly have money and then put it to work most things you can buy the markets giving you two point three percent dividend yield right now if you spot the SNP. I don't like that concert. We want to get out of it and this whole thing of using debt to just you know for you. Barbara put little shackles around you from spending habits and not everyone has that same discipline yes. That's the question. Does he have the discipline to pay this off and start investing for the long term? So don't give advice by saying you know. Go get credit cards chimney Barbara. This is terrible. Okay there you have very well and that's all the questions we have time for today. I hope you found the advice. Helpful think got it right then guy got it wrong. Have an idea for great guests. "Taller. Hello this is Barbara Barbara. My name is Dustin. I'm the owner of American owning and sign out of Columbus Ohio. I'm calling you because I need your vice. It's not necessarily a finance question. It's more of like a moral dilemma question. We have been operating for almost two years and our employees range from seven. Nine employees mostly fulltime. But we have a few part time. They come in and help us right now. The construction season is a little low just because of the weather. We're not in stone as much. We are down a few installers because no one wants to work in this cold weather so our income is a little lower as well. I have a couple of fulltime employees. They're not producing enough. So basically we're not billing enough to pay for their salary. How can I go home at night? After telling an employee that we have to cut their hours to thirty two or thirty hours a week. I don't know if I can look someone in the eyes of the talent. GonNa make less money this week or next week. But we're not a charity where business and we're trying to grow. I just don't know if they're going to understand in my fears. They're going to quit or they're gonNA resent me. I just don't know how to do it. I'm hoping to get your advice. So actually as I listened to dozens details about that business and the season aspect of it basically has overcapacity in terms of labor. He's hired too many people. What he needs to have is a fulltime that he's getting the full forty to forty two hours a week out of if he went down to one person. Get that and then go into a part time contract with the others as the seasonality drifts through the business. He has not tailor made his business model correctly because of the seasonality the detailed about wintertime and putting up signs etc. The bigger problem is if he doesn't have what it takes to actually make hiring and firing decisions. He shouldn't be running the business. He maybe could be investment but he's got to get somebody that has the guts to tell the truth to these people. One of them has to go in my view and the other can be put on a part time basis or find work elsewhere. Ask you this Kevin. The first time you fired someone in Your Business. First Time you had to confront firing someone taking a livelihood away did it come naturally to you or was it a tough thing to do know. It was tough but I have in my career. As I grew my particularly my consolidation in the educational software business ended up firing tens of thousands of people and I learned. The most important thing to do in that whole process was to set up a system where you explain why it was happening. Be You found out and made sure you compensated them very fairly because what I learned. When you're dealing with that many people they are going to go into the market and talk about you being fair or not and in my case we made sure that we compensated them and found counseling services to help them find other jobs and by the time the fourth year came around as we were buying companies firing people he didn't need and just keeping the developers because we had our own distribution our reputation was very good and many of them came back and worked for us two or three years later as they moved around the market because we ended up being the largest educational software company in the world so these people came back that wanted to be in the educational that addresses one of his concerns that the people would like him. They might not come back and you found that they did if they're treated fairly but no one goes into a firing situation initially as a boss a new boss and feels comfortable firing people so let office who I would say to Dustin this. He's a very nice guy. We could hear that in his voice he has a conscience he wants to be a good guy all the way but he's gotta learn to fire and that's an ability you can certainly learn but I would say to dust in that. He could trade on how nice he is. It tells a nice guy so if he sits down a group of people a one on one and says hey listen. Business isn't right. We don't have the billable hours that we used to have. So we're going to have to cut the hours that everybody's working and I either guarantee you twenty hours or if you want. You could leave here and you could get a full-time employment somewhere else. But that's the best I could do for you. I don't think the firing for Dustin is going to be nearly as tough as he thinks. I think people are GonNa get it. I think he's GonNa Learn. That firing isn't the boogeyman he thinks it is. He's going to do a good job at it because people love me. Everybody loved me. Who worked for me and I was able to for a while. Get Away with murder. Frankly because I was like but in the national time people took it in the Chin and they said we understand and they walked out the door. It happen and so I think we've got to give Justin a chance to realize it's not as bad as he thinks. Just go do it. And people are going to be more loyal than he thinks I'm toured. You're sending too much of a combined pissed kids but I would rather have employees respect me and you've got to be fair because that comes back to hurt you. Economically businesses are about making money. They're binary of you make but you're a way to combine a fire right now and it's about how you do and I think this guy's got a good shot pretty good at it too and I think I take a different approach. There is a reason. I'm called Mr Wonderful. You know that what is that. Reason is truth in advertising. Hi Barbara My name's general and I'm from Chesapeake and I have this reoccurring problem my friendships. But it's kind of getting in the way of me like making in keeping funds. I'm a pretty ambitious person but when I feel like my ambition to other people and like how I turn a dream into reality at some point. My friend is kind of jealous and I have this one signed in particular that I'm having issues.

"Each week I'll be answering all your burning questions and sometimes I'll be asking them to interview some of the greatest folks. I know to learn the secrets of their success. So I can share them with you. I've never agreed with Kevin O'Leary on an opinion about anything. Not One thing he says left. I say right uses up by say dem so. I thought who better to ask to be here today. Kevin O'Leary to answer the eight Barbara Questions. I thought what if I'm giving people bad advice and Kevin's got the best advice. So here he is. Today he was great on my other. Podcast business unusual. Hey catch that if you haven't heard what Kevin was like as a kid. You're going to be disappointed. I have no doubt. Listen here to Kevin answering the questions all wrong or maybe right. We're going to have a very different spin all the questions coming. My name is Brian and I'm calling from Munich. Germany nineteen years old. And I've been so inspired by you for a long time. I listen to to everyone of your podcasts. From a young age I've always had very big dreams for myself however my parents and siblings make it very known that they do not think I can deliver recently the so called a relationship the become very bad because of how resentful I am towards them. But is your advice on how to deal with close family. That don't have faith in you in your dream. Sad wants very sad I think first of all that's a very broken relationship between a parent a sibling. A brother sister. I think what has to happen here. Is this individual husted? Strike out on their own and tell their parents go fuck yourself. I'm GonNa go my God. I'm going to have to delete that from my podcast. You know exactly what I'm saying. This is ridiculous even talking that way to a child is just something really wrong about that. Well here's my advice to you Brian. I think you should use the insult of for your motivation. Nothing is more powerful and somebody deming you to hell and saying you can't do something because you can get your IRA up and you get out there and you say I'll show you come back as the victor and they'll have to acknowledge and if they don't you could acknowledge it for yourself. You're right barber. Brian is the winner up. But we haven't heard the parent side of the story. Yeah Yeah but I can just tell it's bad hi Barbara. It's dawn from Maryland. I've been married twice and I just wonder. Should I get married again? Thanks well listen. I'm going to take a stab at this barbara because I have various feelings about marriage. I've always felt that marriage while it can be a fork in the beginning when romance and love her involved really displays. Its true colors after about three years. If you comes at business because the reason men and women or significant others get together and Form Family. Units is to help themselves economically and emotionally but the fact is it's the pillar of financial strength that keeps marriage together. If you're talking about a third marriage the first to tell the story of what's GonNa Happen to the third? Why Bother? Why not just have some frenemies too my eight years? Don doesn't sound at all like she is even excited about getting married. I don't know why she's asking the question. But what when wrong. The first marriage what went wrong the second marriage. And would you want to repeat it? Barbara WanNA bring a point up. I think you may or may not agree with but if you look at an did this little study on divorce over a seven to fourteen year period which is study divorce. Well because I was very interested in answering this question and I had a good friend who was a divorce lawyer had been for thirty five years so I asked him. Don't bring the individual cases because he did a lot of work with very wealthy people fifty percent of unions and in divorce between seven and fourteen years. That's a staff that's been pretty steady for a long time. It's not infidelity. That breaks these unions. Apart in most cases he attributed to financial pressure L. I'm sure even the Super Bowl. She's been the case so one partner is not in sync with the other in terms of their spending investing habits or whatever it is and that brings such a Fisher to the family that they divorced for the reasons of money. So I'm just wondering if that hasn't played a role in Dawn's case if you're having trouble in your marriage look at money. First not in most marriages can survive infidelity. Hi Barbara My name is Diana and I'm from Maryland. My question is about how what I should do with my career. I'm sort of at this crossroads where I've been in a pretty comfortable family friendly job for a few years and I'm just feeling like if not fulfilling and I don't know what to do should I take risk or should I stay in a career. That's been pretty family friendly. Even though it won't ever be that lucrative. I've just been so indecisive and I don't know what to do just need some good advice. Thank what's not fulfilling and how about just trying to get a better position where you're working now. That's a good point. I told my daughter the same thing after her first year of work you know. She came to me complaining about her status in the organisation. Enter pay after one year. No I said we're not going to have this conversation. We've gone eighteen months because we did. We had the conversation again actually after twenty four months two years and then I said to her you know Savannah you've achieved quite a bit. You need to get a raise and going to tell you what to say but really it's all about what you've delivered because set goals for self. You've achieved them and now you have to get a race and she was quite successful not as much as I want her to get. Every father was more but she moved up in terms of two positions in her job title and a raise in one. All at once. I and this is why I'm going back to two this caller because if to set goals for yourself generally I don't like to look at resumes where people have moved every twelve months. I like to see a two year commitment. Humans Nice. But it's so forgivable today it seems to me as a typical resin. You're okay with a twelve month. I don't like it but I tell you. Most of the resumes that coming people hop around especially when they're young. I don't mind it at all. I used to really be bothered. I'm still old fashioned in the respect that I think should show the organization what you can do that takes at least twenty four months. I said we're look. You're not going anywhere until you really prove yourself here. It'll be the steppingstone and she has. She's now in her third year and looking at another race so I like to tell people set a goal for yourself once you achieve it go point out to your superiors that you did what you'd set up for yourself and for them and that you'd like to be compensated. Accordingly now Kevin. I get a lot of people that call in and I stuck in jobs and they seem to put enormous value over a family friendly environment as though they are afraid to leave in mistook as they can go to their kids soccer games. And what have you but what do you think about that? My impression is at most jobs say are family friendly. Things have changed and for people to get stuck in a job just because they think they're understood like this lady Diana I think is a mistake in holes people to John. Much longer than they wished to be here right most bosses. Most people that are running both entrepreneurial. Organizations are large corporations understand people should be measured by their ability to achieve tasks. How they do. It doesn't really interest me as long as they achieve them. I don't care where they do it. From as long as a they achieved them be they achieved them and see they do it on time. And after that you can be eclectic you know you can work in different ways. Most organizations are bending that way as long as they achieve their goals. And I think it's a good thing in America. Frankly of course have changed so much even people tell me. Look I wanNA work all night. I'm an Idaho okay. I'm cool with that. Let me give one little piece of advice to Diane Diane. I think he's GonNa have a hard time asking for anything and you're going to have to practice being aggressive. That's what I hear between every word. You say that you're not aggressive. And you're not confrontational. So I would suggest you go out and see what other jobs are out there if even online so you know there's other opportunities and you go look at yourself in the mirror and practice saying what you need to say to move on get a raise or to get the new promotion or to argue. You're worse but I with the way you represent yourself. You're not going to get anything because I'm not convinced listening to you that you believe in yourself one bit. That's at the core of the issue more than being stuck in the job. I think you have to be able to learn how to advocate for yourself and I don't think it happens overnight. You gotta practice on it. I was like the quietest lowest key kid in the world. And I'm a big mouth. Why because I practice for so many years being a big mouth you got to get out there and practice or just even practice in front of your family and friends to get accustomed to the sound of your voice being aggressive. That's.

"Long good evening. Barbara. This is brandon from New York. I just want to act on a scale of one to ten. How hard did you work to get where you are today? And also what are the things you need in terms of passion to move up in life because what? I'm struggling right now is really motivation. An action that's what I really want. Elevate myself financially. An every other aspect of life that has health relationships and so on. Hey Brandon Nice to meet you nice to meet you too barber. I Love Your Voice. You sound so sincere. One hundred fifty percent. Thank you struggling right now with finding motivation right. Tell me a little bit more about that. It's where is in okay? I wake up in the morning. I'm always saying you know I wanna live to the best of my ability whether it's finance whether it's my relationships with my co workers you know my relationship with my future wife even though I haven't found her yet. Are you worried about it early? Good enough you'll probably make a great husband being the Best Parent. I could be even though I'm not a parent yet like I wanna live life to the best of my ability but you know I lack motivational okay. I have the idea in my mind dream about it that I could get it done but the action it's like I procrastinate on that part locale. Let's give yourself a little break here. I don't know a single person. The world who doesn't procrastinate army as part of the human condition. I don't WanNa do that right now. Right do you find that? That goes on day in day out and you just never get to first base. Yes part of the reason. I'm afraid to be uncomfortable. Like let's say a right. I want a business. I know I have to work hard for it but I would have to work two jobs for it at the save. That's part of it and the patients part okay. You don't strike me as a man who would have a hard time. Working Heart are using your little on the lazy side or lackluster sides. Yes you could say that on is GonNa marry you myself so you feel as though you lacked the motivation to work. Because he don't like to work hard or is it you not working hard because you don't know what floats your boat. So speak more fixated on the dreaming part. You know That's the fun part. Well number one right off the bat. You're thinking way we to heart. It's one thing to dream about what success looks like and who you. WanNa be when you grow up and where do you wanna live and what kind of life you want? That's good stuff. Those are roadmaps. Those up in fact almost life plans or at a bare minimum of business. Plan on how to get ahead. I like well that but it sounds to me like you're stressing too hard. I don't know another young man who's concerned about his wife nor his kids. He doesn't even have slice to plan. But I think thinking can get in the way of action. Let's assume you're thinking too hard and all the stuff. That's also a form of procrastination. Let me think about a little more. Think about a little more. You can't think and have action at the same time. What if I said to you what you gotTa do? Is You gotta go out and play in the traffic little? You gotta just go out and have action without thinking too hard about where it's going to lead where's your passion and how you're GonNa make a big. What if you made your enemy simply let me work my ass off for the next two months three months or even a week? If that's all you the stamina you have initially to do in the Natta Week on ETA week on. What do you think would happen to your life? If you worked much much harder drastically changed my dreams would come to. Life comes reality. I'M GONNA put that to a test. You can really really hard and you want to have a wonderful marriage in great kids when you grow up. How is that going to materialize by you working hard? That's not something you can really work for us to something that comes to you that has to happen. I don't know about that. I think women are attracted to men that work hard one. I'm talking about you know family so I just put that into the equation of life in a big big thing in life. What would happen if you work twice as hard as you work? Every day of the week my income would double or triple right. Yeah well maybe what do you do for a little office and childcare are moving up to the police department the New York Police Department and a couple of months good for you so you have ambition. It's not like you're refusing to do anything about making a lot in life better eight. You have the ambition to make that move. Yes but you're not working so hard at it. I'm thinking you know. Get a second job because there's a car I want. I could either save up for it or make my monthly payments on it. And what does that car look like one a nice car? I haven't liked figured out. What type of car I want yet but I have the price range in my head in how much I'll pay a month on it. And how much leftover things like that? And what color is the car? I didn't get to choose that so many different cars I want. Yeah there's a lot of cars who get within a certain budget. Here's my suggestion on that alarm figuring out what car you want exactly look at the interior. What little options you want on that car. The brand get a picture of it. Blow it up on your copy machine. Make It really big and shiny and pin it up wherever your eyeballs land when you open your eyes in the morning. Okay and then you take that picture and put a date on it. When do you want it for you? Want in two months three months or whenever you get the money together. Which would it be six months six months as more reasonable so rather than the six months? Now it's back into it. You said You'd get a part time job. You probably working eight hours in your current job. Of course you could have twenty four hours a day. You don't see more than eight hours or three hours a day. Okay to get that car you figure out how much money you have to get together each month. Not even with what the payments going to be. It would be great. If you could buy that car mostly cash werner feel a little better to get all that money within time. Okay all right so whatever you could get together and put as a down payment on that car you gotta figure out what job you get in the next eight hours of day to make that money. That's feasible isn't it? Your can you get another eight hour job where you doubtful that you could stand? It is getting the job or doing the job can do both then give yourself a deadline to get the damn job and get going on it because if you think about it and think about it. This week ain't going to happen next week. That's for sure because your biggest thing that gets in your way is your intelligent and you think about stuff and that's a curse of being too smart thinking thinking thinking never gets the action okay. Bergh's so much of course in you know in any way you know it inside yourself so now you have your other eight hour day job five days a week. If I could get it seven days a week I would do that because your other jobs only five days a week and now you want heart. What else do you want? What are the success? Do you want Marwan of business? Like long later on in life like I consider the next two three years. 'cause you know being a cop starting off the salaries not enough L. K. Unless you become a detective or a sergeant then you're GonNa make a lot more money in that. It's you don't aspire to anything like that right. I do start. It's forty two thousand. That's no money in New York could barely eat on forty two thousand especially if you have a family with kids so how about you. Promise me for the next six months of your life. You try a new life plan. You just only focus on what actions you could do to get the car. Start there when you get the actions in line and you actually buy the car and drive it out of the showroom and shiny and smells so good inside. You'll going to believe in yourself that your actions actually get stuff done while Kane and then you add the next thing you one click it off one at a time. You drive yourself nuts but promise me this. Promise me every time you think about the car or think about this. You just stare at the cars at gotta get that car to have that job. How many hours of my working focused entirely giving self report card based on actions not thoughts and you will get to exactly what you want life now to your first question. You asked me how hard I worked to get what I wanted. I'll tell you I had a dream. I wanted to be successful. I didn't know what that looked like. But I can tell you I worked one hundred and fifty percent eighty hours a week for probably thirty years to get to where it was eighty hours a week for thirty years. Maybe exaggerate the last ten years. I have to be honest with you here. Maybe I cut down five or six hours a week but I still work my ass off. Let me tell you if I spent any of that time thinking versus working. I wouldn't be where I am. You've got a work you've got to have action and stopped thinking okay would be going. You're thinking call me in how many muster to say you said it was going to take you to get the car six. You take a picture of yourself in the car and don't you fake it? I wanted in front of your house sitting in the car waving at me and let captured to say look at me. I did it did it was thought it but I did it. Got It okay. Yes six months. I got you my calendar. I better here from you. You know. Kobe Bryant the Basketball Star. That had recently passed the wave chorus. Everybody knows Kobe. He had this model call. Mama mentality where it's defined as the infinite quest to be the best version of yourself to achieve something higher than what you cheap before. Do you live by that modal. Where did you ever live by that? Mortar wipe out right now will not know so words but let me tell you you should live by that motto yourself. Kobe didn't get to who he was because even vision themselves on a basketball court. He was there practising practising practising action. Action Action Use him as your model is mantra as a true mantra. He didn't line. That's what got him to where he was and that's all the questions. We have time for today. I hope you found the advice. "Name is Jocelyn and I'm calling from Southern California. I'm a huge fan of yours. I watched shark tank for years. I've followed on instagram. And I love how confident you are and how much you inspire. Women like myself to follow. Their dream can be a hard worker. So my question is how to overcome impostor syndrome I'm thirty years old and when I was twenty two joined the start up in California. That eventually hot. It's really successful by out. When I was twenty six I got a cash payout that allowed me to basically take a year off of work and travel and by all means it was an incredible success. However I still can't get over this feeling that it was just a fluke and this fear that I didn't actually earn anything that it was. All just luck is pretty paralyzing. And I'm having a really hard time getting the confidence to go back to the job market and tries to you. I keep telling myself that I won't be able to do it. That my six houses just kind of started lining and you just getting really lucky and your despite what my friends and family telling you should have no problem moving forward in my career. I just can't seem to believe it myself. So any advice that you have on believing in yourself everyday and your abilities. It'd be really appreciated so happy you call them with your question. I get this all the time. It drives me crazy really. Yeah Yeah Yeah so you doubting yourself a little bit. Yeah this has been something. I've struggled with throughout my career when I was in my early. Twenty S I started working for a start-up that kind of blew up over a couple of years. Were you doubting yourself before you work for the startup? I'm curious yeah. I was a little bit when I started working there and started having all these successes it was like for a little while reaffirming but then again I would kind of see like it was all just a fluke and I just got really lucky no matter how many accomplishments I hit I still kind of feel like I just got really lucky and I don't know what I'm doing and at some point someone will figure that out. Yeah we'll let the colonel. I think of anything we start to believe in and make it bigger than actual self. I think always a kernel of truth so I think the kernel of truth in what you just said. Is You KINDA got lucky? Luxa involved in every success if the world of the time he is stacked against you no matter how talented you are. You're not gonNA get a hit on your hands because everything's against you so you had a little bit of luck there. You had a background situation. You're hired for a startup. Those people are probably decent. What they were doing or you wouldn't have even had a hit if you had gone under. Let's credit lustful what it is. It was helpful. That's fair what's not fair to you to anyone out there to myself and I've struggled for myself and I'll return to that in a minute is to credit a too much that you were just lucky because this millions of people that moment in time we had the identical luck to you and they didn't get lucky like you the way you got lucky. They didn't make a big hit of it. So you're talented of something to do with it. Now your next position I assume from your question. You're already in that position now and you have doubts at the quiet times with yourself right. Yes yeah okay let me just say thank God you doubt yourself because the one thing that I have learned is true of every single person who is exceptional and whatever they're doing is self doubt without it you become big headed arrogant and you're just waiting for the clock to make you fall on your feet when you doubt yourself. It's like a human element that keeps you on the straight narrow so to speak so I've never hired partnered or done any business with anyone who doesn't have doubt someone who's second guessing themselves is what I want to see in every person because what it means is they're going to work hard to do it again and if you did it once and you combine that with working hard and just a little bit of luck which is always at grabbed. You're going to have the same success again and again because you're at the core of it does that make sense does is no accidents but believing. It is a hard part. Here's my formula for getting yourself to overcome your doubt. Every time you feel doubtful. Try to put it to the left or the right and go for a job and work a little bit harder when you work in a little bit harder. You don't have time to think about the doubt if you doubt full again. I'll work through it. I'll work even harder. That's my formula for success. When I sold my business for sixty six million and I had made from scratch out of nothing in the whole world applauded me. Written up all the papers. Oh she's a genius. She says she's that. Do you know what I thought. Only six months later that the whole thing was a fluke. It was a fluke. I got the brain. The Thousand Bucks Fluke. I hire the right. People is a fluke. I opened the right offices was a fluke. I was in the right neighborhoods. It was a fluke promoted. The right people put my confidence in those people took my conference away from the wrong people. It was a fluke that I was able to fight my competitors and win the number one market position. Ole Boy Network going against me. It was all even lawsuits. Were fluke that I want crazy. You would stand there and say to me you barbara actually really believe that and I could honest to God on a stack of Bibles. Say I did believe it and you know what was really missing. I wasn't working. I had not worked for six months. I didn't know what I wanted to do is myself idleness. Or lack of one hundred and fifty percent effort always has doubt creep in. So no that that's your mo every time you have doubt work a little harder even if it's for two days three days or week or month whatever just a barrel through it so there's no room for the doubt but the minute you call me up in two years and say guess what I've arrived. I have no doubt I know me as as I am. I'm going to tell you you're not gonNA do well anymore. That's the way it is. Don't go why it's like. The curse of being competent is self doubt because competence rides on your own self doubt. Does that make sense at dies? Yeah it's like if you don't die yourself anymore you come complacent not even too complacent but just the edges off. It's the edge. You doubt that makes your performance in anything you do so I want you to call year from now and say Hey Barbara I have a problem. I'm doubting myself. I have imposter syndrome. We're going to say good for you. Keep it up okay. Okay yeah no year in a privileged club. I'm in it with you. Everyone I know who's been enormously successful. Not Just Women. I think they suffer from it more but men as well suffer from the syndrome. It wouldn't have a name like a syndrome if it was a common not real but I'm happy. Feel it thank you pretend you believe Al CAPP. Good luck to take you Barbara. I'm Mike Okay..

"Four thousand of the five thousand I have to say that I know what the Mo is what the typical routine is and what percentage of sales fuel actually make money and how many of them do not fortify sales. You'll never make a career when they enter real estate so the odds are against you. If you want to be a salesman that might sound. I'm negative but I'm going to address that in a minute as it pertains to you or if it pertains to you but the other piece of it is that I found that for someone to succeed in real estate go into. It's a new game. They needed to be assured that they didn't need money for nine months. I started to really not hire people unless they had that assured e because I found when people really had to make a deal right away right away right away. They went in with sweaty palms. They were too much in a rush buyers sense it. They didn't like it. They didn't do enough preparation into become good at what they did. Whereas if someone went in very aggressively and had nine month run where they knew they could pay their bills for nine months? I generally found that that was is essential for success. And that's why I said to you a minute ago. Can you husband pay for nine months and you said yes. You could actually live with your husband's income supporting your family for nine months and that is exactly what you need in real estate sales to go into it. So that's good news. Let me tell you why I think he would be phenomenal on real estate sales. Okay number one ran out of my gut and I'm going to tell you if I had to analyze my gut and put labels on things What you've said that I really like number one? You have a beautiful voice as we're as that might sound in real estate it's essential because so much of your conversation and interaction is actually over the phone. I mean a lot is done by email male but the connecting to people and the communicating with people that voices key so having a beautiful voice as a really great leg up again. It doesn't guarantee success but when you have not a pleasant voice to listen to People WanNa work with you have seen that over and over again. That's on courage indy. Here thank you very much so lovely and also you described yourself as a hard worker. An overachiever lever. And you even said the magic words to me. And I'm paraphrasing use at something about I'd like to achieve for myself. Some people might say well. That sounds a little greedy. I say that sounds I was aggressive. And if you're going to succeed in real estate you've got to have that aggressive gene that competitive gene that you WanNa do better than the next guy or you don't succeed. It's not like an an extra bonus like the voice is an essential. You have to have that wired into your just wired into you. Can't fake it you WANNA succeed. You'RE GONNA work. Your buns is off. Do what it takes and you WanNa get the credit for your own success. I don't see that is greed. I see it as fair. I'm going to work like crazy. I'm GonNa get a success and I want the credit and I. I WanNa be rewarded for it. So I heard that edgy new which I always call the killer instinct and probably from someone as Nice as you may not like the label killer instincts. There's people that I call it a New York style killer instinct you know. That's you want to get there okay. The other thing you said is homes bring you joy few said I love decorating. That's the worse in real estate. Don't go the you said Holmes Bring me joy another great sign homes bring you joy and now I'm going to tell tell you how you should get involved in the business to begin with because I don't want you to go again and spend a lot of time in real estate only to find out you don't like it kind of like what happened was nursing you better editor of getting a bite of it and it tastes it on the front end and not spend that much time. If you decide you don't like it. I think you're gonNA love it but you should link up every top agent in in your neck of the woods like within thirty miles who the top agency find them online. They Brag about this success. I think you should write a short email or drop off a hand written note and even better than both of those dropped by the offices and introduce yourself to the agent. This is your line. I'd like to go into real estate sales. I have my real estate license license which is easy to get so much easier than a nursing degree gay GonNa Take Care of that right upfront. Hardly an investment of time more money go up a walk in their office ask if therein Nada in leaves them a note or tell them you're coming by email or ask for an appointment however you choose to do it is fine. You should say I'd like to work for you for free. Every one of the top agents in the field I will be a slave. I'll make the appointments. I'll sit at the open house. I want to work for you for three months because I really WANNA learn from the best and you you know what happens if you do that. You really get smart super fast and real estate the best training in the world to be in the presence of a superstar. You're going to see how they pitch how they manage your appointments. How they managed time? You're going to see how they close a deal. The magic of the business high pressure to the great agents. Don't use high pressure pressure at all They use the personality. You can watch what they do and you could do version of it three months hence and then you'll make you I steal not in six months you'll make steel in three months another three months to close in your up to nine months. You'll be well on your way. And then the other bonus in working for free for an agent and many of them will insist they pay you minimum wage which I would say take okay but if you're working for free great agents always have more work than they can handle. They usually in the higher price end of any market because they make more money there but they always have the kids of their high priced customers wanting smaller homes and they don't WanNa work with them so they view their exhaust business. They spin off that business. You take this you take that. And what that does is provides you a base your real estate business so no matter how you look at it in my book is the only way to start in the real estate business. That is so genius. It's not ingenious but it will but you know what else you'll enjoy the heck out of it if you're going to sit at a desk in a training program with eight of their agents learning the field old you'll probably succeed but it's GonNa take a lot longer and you might even decide you don't like the business from that perspective but get out and play being the traffic like boom get in there. You're in the throes of things with a top agent. If you don't love it right away you could leave it. I think you're gonNA know right away. This this is for me and I want to be like her when I grow up which is only going to be in nine months time and I loved that we had that nine one goal on there because that's a realistic time line when I can look at look forward to achieving these goals. Yes what are you going to do about your daughter. Signed a part time business real estate exactly and I know myself that I know that I'm going to and both my brain much of my days into it for we have a partial Baker right now that she's Urnov at work so a great thing for me with that it's only a four children in care so like she gets one on one attention like a dream. Yeah I'm just nervous. Do you think that I'll be able to still achieve my successes in real estate. Now that I have family to give you a straight answer on that it will affect you no doubt in your career because your hearts divided and whenever you hearts divided divide on anything you can't do as well in either portions as you'd like right so you'll feel guilty when you're at work and you'll feel guilty when you with your daughter daughter not at work. That's the crux of for every working. Mom In America. You never feel peace with that except to give yourself the compliment. That misery loves company. And every other woman America's arcus feeling the same way real estate is a full time business. You cannot succeed unless you really give it your heart and soul but you can have children and so many women come. I'm into real estate. Because they feel the flexibility to be able to go to the school games and we've their schedules around their children. Some entirely true. But it's half true so you get half of what you want. I would ask myself that serious question. Can I make a full-time commitment to any job. That's on a commission basis. Because if he can't do it full time it's it's impossible to really do well and you'll be frustrated if you're an overachiever. And a hard worker. I stayed home for ten minutes with my daughter at first and it almost drove me nuts. I I am an overachiever. And I think I just need to be out in the world. I'm just not stay at home. Mom type I think. Unfortunately don't fortunately. Fortunately why would you just want to be a stay at home whole mom if you could be a mom and have a great career. I take both. I'm all for it. Empowered to lady that. Can you got it one of the okay. Well Nice speaking with illicit good luck and let we know how you do. Thank you very much pleasure. "Mom with kids burden the Kennel on both ends or whether you're a stay at home mom tell you what these two groups of moms having common guilt. No one thinks that doing the right thing. We're GONNA talk to a lady today. WHO's between the TWIX? I think I have some good advice. The High Barbara My name is David and I would like to be a comedian. I'd like to know. Oh how I can monetize this early on when I don't have any social media following never performed a show and I'm not sure I'm very funny. Can you please give me some advice on how how to monetize my career. I hear Comedians. Don't make a whole lot of money early on even if they do have a following and they're funny so it's an uphill battle but I believe in myself. Oh please call me back. I'll do my best to answer but I'll be practicing my comedy at the same time David. I'm doing fine. I've never had a comedian call and I loved it. ooh good a comedian. Thank you. I'm a wannabe comedian. But my whole life people say you should be a comedian. So forty seven years into that comment. I thought I would embrace it. Okay well good for you Give me your best joke. You know I'm still putting my act together but probably about traveling on airplanes. And you're sitting there and you're jockeying for every square inch of of legroom and he doesn't even need the space but he got his leg a little wider than he showed. And then you're trying to get that spot back. And you're jockeying the whole time like like a threat when you should just be enjoying flight though. A lot of travel humor probably didn't have you ever seen marvelous maizels one of the hit series on TV. Right now I've been the first three episodes. Yeah I don't know if in the first three episodes. She showed us at the Comedy Club at night and as she failed miserably and she had to keep practicing practicing and practicing and measuring her jokes. And how long lasts you would get to each joke. And she would really sharpen her trade. Have you seen that section of that yet. I art part of that. And yes I I definitely think previews knowing that it is calculated science behind it even though comedians. That are good make easy. I know it's not easy like anything that's when people we'll say I'm really good at something. That's I just think to myself practice five million times look good and make it look easy. Okay you'd like to be a comedian is a something like you WanNa switch courses Right away in order to your whole life and I know it doesn't come across funny when I'm on the Fox I haven't perfected it but they're really my whole life people go. You should be comedian. So unless it was like a backhanded compliment. Like we're laughing at you not with you your that but fails my whole life. I own a company that does mail order brownies. I'm fine I'm like why not pursue this other dream and I'm just deciding if I think there's a business. Their business of making money as a comedian. I think if you find find out if you love it and people love you you won't have to worry about whether there's a business aeronautical become a business. I think that's life is really really love something when you get good at it. Life has a way of finding you and rewarding you and the money takes care of itself I really believe that occupy portions and being a comic. I don't think would be any different. Have you tried your hand on any stage with a group of people staring at you and trying to make them laugh without the next up. I actually had about five years ago. Signed up for an open mic night at a local improv literally. Cancel that right before we were going on because they didn't have enough turn out for the page show. That's the closest I got. aww kind of set me back when okay. Maybe there's a method in there that it got infant but I'm ready to sign up for something local here in Phoenix and just see what I can get a reaction from an and learn from. Come out okay. I'm going to talk to straight because that's very telling that story that you just told me. Probably more powerful than anything else I could ask you about all right. I think to succeeded exceeded anything that you have to put your heart and soul but you have to put your feet in it too. I think the idea that you had an Improv. Five years ago that was canceled. And you're thinking of going. Thanks for another Improv. Five years later you'll never become a comedian. You'll never succeed as a comedian. Unless you step up your game like five thousand percent okay for example if you said the Improv was cancelled so I drove sixty miles to this city. 'cause I heard they had an Improv and they rejected me and then I went went to this town. And I got an Improv. Going that kind of fever to be heard is what you're going to need if you're going to succeed at all in anything and especially in a rejection business like being a comedian. This got to be within three hours of where. You're living a probably three IMPROV nights. This week the I don't know where they are. But there's got to be this popular. You have to cut your teeth right away and as often as you can on a live audience because because you're gonNA find out if you funny. I agree one hundred percent. I guess it's getting out there and I think I've over-analyzed if they have the perfect jokes written and I think there's truth the writing joke but at some point is getting out there and if I can handle the crowd and the rejection and there's not going to be a laugh every joke but hopefully there's enough laugh you know what I hope. I hope you get out there in front of a live avoidance and you fall on your face and I would wish that for you because it's GonNa teach you that you're up against a tremendous challenge. I think it's one of the hardest occupations occupations in the world to be funny really on call right but if you can fall on your face it's probably gonNA kick you in the ass and it's either going to say forget it. I'm really not funny. which I don't think is probably the case? Imagine people have told you that your whole life you probably a very funny guy. But I think it's going to get you to go or go home. One or the other is no other way no other way to test it none except to get out in front of a live audience. No I agree by them. Okay you you agree and now you gotta go out and agree the feet. I will do it and I'll want all my face a few times and get better. I'll send you a copy of the show House that you have to go that far all I want you to do is send me a quick text or email when you fall face in the message simply be one down next one common that boom boom boom racket up. Hey I wanted just tell you one little vignette that happened in my life of believing I should try. Every experience opens itself to me everyone my life since I was a kid. Says you're so funny. Nobody went so far saying you should be a comedian but I would think I would be a good comedian and then I was a comedian and they saved me for the final act for charity because everyone in that room kind of knew me and knew how funny I was and they saved me for the grand finale and when I got up there was so bad that people booed me off the stage. It wasn't like I don't have processes since I've learned that I'm not a comedian. Never be up there one of the worst experiences of my life. I'm sure deep down I I fear the same but I don't want to have any regrets though truthfully I don't know if I'm cut out for this but I'd like to find out in the way to do it is like you did. It is Aaron reaction on what feeling you get and Mike Helped give it multiple tries and I don't don't love it. I won't do it okay. You remember Jerry Seinfeld famously. Said when he was a comic. I'm so happy I know something about comics that you don't know he said I if you have to be funny so you find that out. Yeah you listen. I would give myself a quick deadline. Six months to try out as many gigs as a possibly get my hands on and be willing. Lina fail for those six months. And you'll know if you should be doing or not not because of your failure but you'll see where you're steamers or whereas all right thank you good luck we should I love you dave you go out there and thank you bye. Hi Barbara My name is Melissa. And I am in Nashville Tennessee. I was just calling to see if you had advice. I definitely had a large career change as I was is in my senior year of nursing school and I hated it was miserable. I dreaded going every day it was not where my passion lied finally had the courage to leave however deliver. I now want to venture into real estate but I have family. I have a husband and a one year old daughter so I was wondering thought that it was possible for me to go into real estate date for one and be successful and to where would I even begin first off. Let me tell you. I think it's great that you move so quickly realizing before you got that way. Deep in that you didn't like nursing bailed out in a lot of people just don't have the courage especially after what is a tough education not so easy to study and become a nurse and and then to just give it up because you realize already through the little exposure you've had as a practicing nurse or training nurse. What is the right terminology there? Yeah I guess it would be deep practicing because we were in our clinical rotations infection and I had actually been on his career patsies high school so I've had since then who's a long time coming a long time incoming but not a long time for you to get out of it bang. I don't like this. I'm not going to do this right. Yeah and it was a tough with my family as well because they're really supportive but they want me to be successful successful which I definitely understand but they just need to realize that my success can come in another area without a doubt. My first question is what didn't you like about the nursing. I'm curious I don't know if like necessarily job. Stability is Germane to it because I'm a very caring person very impassioned in empathetic I believe so. Oh that's something that just really drew my to nursing and helping other people but it's a lot more than that. It's just more than helping people who won't with some more part of it that you listen care for. I don't know I couldn't find my passion in going there and seeing all these suffering people and and honestly I'm not even good with blood basic right exactly so even the practicing IV that alone kind of like okay. Well I'm definitely way out of my comfort zone. Not comfortable another large part of nursing so now let's pause for moment and say we're turning a page and now you've had your fancy caught by the idea of becoming a real estate agent or on. What is it that attracts you to that field? Why were you starting to think about that? Well I learned that I am a very hard worker in. I'm driven and I'm also an overachiever achiever. Trying to find a career. where I could be over junior for myself right now? I work for a company and I can do all I can for them. But it's not gonNa Venison is going to benefit them. You're talking about nursing again right. Is that what you mean. Actually I have an intermediate career announced to have money but so real estate is something. I figured that one one. I have a lot of passionate in my home and homes in general so I knew that it sparked that creative joyful me and like I said. I'm just very driven so if I can work for myself to provide us on a basis that on my own. I think I'd be more successful. Evert clear thinker. Thank you great. It may ask you a must you provide for your family. What does your husband do can provide for you and your daughter he is a gas line locator and unfortunately I believe where are we live by? It's not enough to provide for one family on one income. Could he provide for you for nine months. He had to. Yes he actually did. That actually just went back to work after after having my daughter Luna and lose your first and only child right work record. The reason ask about nine months is because I made my career recruiting recruiting training and motivating sales people my whole life. That's what made me rich. Had a brokerage firm a whole life running a firm and financing affirm and watching can sales people over the years I must have higher five thousand sales people probably fired..

"You start to believe yourself and I think that's really how long to take take you to turn your thoughts around on that matter six months six years. What happens there? Six seconds. That's it. Oh my God today you cannot stop me today. I am someone who believes anything is possible. The Sky is the limit. You'll give me a negative so quickly it takes work but the thing is is. Do you want to go through life seeing the batter seeing the good because whatever you look for you're GonNa see that's a decision that you have to make every single day and I wake up and some days I suck at making that decision. Let's be honest. We're all human. But most days I wake up and I see the possibility for me. The possibility is so captivating that had a half to run towards it. I just had a discussion with a man who instead of pursuing possibility. He's running away from past failures. He's inspired to continue to move in and grow and learn because he wants to get away from who he was in the past and for me. That picture doesn't work. I want to run towards something new. I WanNa see what's possible. I want to break those barriers. There's there are two different types of people and you really have to identify. Which one are you? Are you running away from something or are you running toward a help you to really understand understand where my thoughts leading me is it. Because I'm afraid of going backwards or is it because I'm inspired by what's ahead in lead rather pick up should be any day of the week you to. I want to ask you about listening. If you don't mind I found after I spoke with you that day that you are undoubtedly one of the best listeners. I've ever met you. Just listen and even though you say so little. I feel like when you're listening to someone. You're interviewing yell locked on and I feel like everyone of my words are precious. I don't know why the same words that I say any other day of the week week but you have a way of doing that. What about listening is coming naturally to an Ken? Someone who doesn't think of themselves as a good listener learn to do it. Were you always that way. I was a terrible listener Barbara. I have a hard time believing I don't want to even save is but if anyone went back to my early episodes woods on my podcast I was on a mission to prove that I was the smartest person in the room. And that's really humbling to admit because I felt like I had had something to prove in overtime. I've really learned that time is our currency Barbara. When you agreed to come I show? You're giving me your time. which was so important to me so I have absolutely become a better listener in a lot of that actually comes trusting in our ability to listen and then follow through with our conversation? And I don't know if you've ever felt this especially as a podcasters a lot of times you show up to an episode and you have a list of questions and you don't WanNa miss one. They're all important but the conversation kind of goes different directions. And if you don't trust in your ability as a human being to connect then it's so easy to just do derail the interview within two seconds you know so I have definitely come a long way and I still have a long way to go but I think I just value people's time so much these days and I'm really really thankful that that came across you actually go into an interview situation now that you know better with a list of questions or order US throw out one and follow it by how well you're listening to ask the questions. I'm curious about your methodology because I want to copy it so we'll start with the main story because we want to just have our guest paint this picture but then we usually have five questions in my goal of my podcast is to walk away away with a tangible takeaway like you can apply this tip and see results. There is a lot of steering involved in that because we want to make sure that guests get to that really really good secret sauce and they want to share with people but at the same point too. If you cut off questions that were leading to somewhere beautiful man. What a disservice? Ariss your guests. Who want a disservice to your audience? Yeah it's definitely an acquired skill and what I think is beautiful is thinking of you and I Barbara. Nobody taught us how to become a host. I'm still working working on it. We're works in progress. And I think that's a beautiful thing and if we go all the way back to question one about authentic marketing. It's going before you're ready it's leading people imperfectly perfectly like my instagram profile says imperfectly leading women. Because I don't have all the answers and I don't have the solutions but authentically showing up means showing up when we're not ready yet just going and leading the charge we'll use your great brains know-how in helping some of my listeners. With their problems. But before before we move onto that I just wanted ask you for one takeaway. Let's say someone knows not a good listener. Let's say my husband bill what one thing you can do due to become a good lister tomorrow. Learn how to listen better. This is what you should do. What's that go dear bill two years just getting us so my mom is one of the most mindful people I've ever met? She actually takes mindfulness courses every single year to just reminder of how to be president residents and I think nowadays it's so easy for us to have our brain being a million different places. We have our phone in our hand. Where likely in a million different places? The one thing that my husband and I do and we're not perfect at it but it's definitely helped us is when we have been apart whether it's for a few hours or the day when we come together we we have five minutes of uninterrupted time to ask how was your day and to listen without providing feedback or any extra information. I read this once. It's and I don't remember who said it but it was marriage advice where it was like. Just ask your spouse how was your day and just listened without the intent to get to a point or to serve anything and then after after that we start talking about work. That's been a really big gift for us because especially when you run your own business. It's really tempting to have your brain be running twenty four seven into always be thinking about work and so when I just invite him into that little piece of my life so that he understands a knows what's going on without any extra information it really helps us connect on that level and just just to feel heard and understood which I think is the ultimate goal in line with what great marriage advice said. You know what you just made me realize what I think at home. I'm not blister because because my husband will sit and listen to our Yacky Act but the minute he's talking my brains out the door at a lot of stuff I gotta go so whether my body's there are not I'm not listening so maybe I should take in the advice and forget about trying to take it on home to old bill sitting at home waiting for it. We love you bill. He'll drive me nuts. What we love my crazy okay? So so the first call is a guy named Thomas. I'm GonNa let you hear his question because hearing the actual voice is a very useful and I want you to chime in. I would new minute leading my answer. What do you think.

"Your Business Coach Entrepreneur. Jenna could Scher on our podcast. I'm sure you've all heard of it. Golddigger digger. What a great name? We gotta find out why she all of that name to begin. I was blown away by her style as well as a content she was kind of a a female version of the. I couldn't shake the idea. You Know Guy Razz from the podcast. How I built this but this lady somehow seemed even stronger than him which? I never thought I'd hear myself say but after we spoke I knew I had to have a here in Haiti Barbara to get her knowledge that she could share with all of us. Let's get right down Jennifer. Thanks so much for joining me. How are you oh I'm so good? Thank you so much for having me on the show I pleasure I know you're Rosalyn is stay with us for a few minutes and answer some of the questions on again eight Barbara and this is a first for Ma'am always alone in my studio answering all the questions. So you're going to help me do the heavy lifting. I can't wait to see that really works out you. The best personal tried out. Okay suggesting your business got started famously with buying a camera on craigslist and he built it into the huge podcast visits. That is as well as all of the other. Things that have sprung from the podcasts with the million subscribers Tell me that story so that other people can enjoy it. Yeah so I was twenty three years old. I was fresh out of college edge and I had this vision for my life. I'm sure you've had a similar vision at some point in your life Barbara where my vision of success looked totally different than it does does today so at the time my vision of success looked like a business suit and high heels in a corner corporate office and I actually got a job with a large corporation and I've very quickly realized in my windowless office that it just wasn't the right fit for me and I think I just had this realization of like was I born to just is punch the time clock in live and die each paycheck and it was. It was almost gut wrenching because I grew up in a very traditional midwestern family and once once you have a salary and benefits what a blessing. You would be ridiculous to throw that away and so I felt this kind of call this little whisper of like there's more there's more to life than this and that call came through a three hundred dollar craigslist camera and people always laugh. Because it's such a well known story about me at this point but I'm so proud of of it because I bought this camera just for the heck of it but with that camera I found passion again and it's kind of crazy because I never took an art class. I never thought they become a photographer. But my camera kind of became this vehicle to give me out of that windowless office and so I started a wedding photography business with zero experience experience but I had been abroad myself and so I was taking all of my experiences as a bride and creating these offers. A new brides wanted like they wanted to feel seen unheard. They wanted someone to be excited about what they were doing. They wanted someone who understood the wedding world and what it was like to be a bride in so I booked twenty five weddings. My first first year leaving matched my salary for my corporate job and was able to put him. I notice and so that started. Just this love of entrepreneurship and over the last eight years. My business has changed so much. I loved the wedding photography world but I realized really quickly that trading time for money and we actually had quite quite a struggle in starting our family and it was when I had to shoot a wedding when I knew I was miscarrying that I realized I had built something. That couldn't run without me and I had made a massive mistake. It wasn't scalable. It relied on me and people only wanted me and so that was when I really started to understand the power of a brand rand versus a business which no we're going to talk about today and started to create these different revenue streams so that if at any day I woke up and said I can't show up for this or I don't want to show up for this that my life wouldn't change in my business when it crumble. And so today we have seven different revenue streams from our podcast doing instagram influencers to having rental properties to running a shop selling educational resources. And all of these different things that I'm also excited about but it's it's definitely been a long process and there's been a lot of growing pains along the way starting with your simple curiosity. Let me get a camera and see if I can take a good picture crazy right right exactly and I think a lot of times. We pursue these initial passions. But they lead us down the wrong path and we forget get what it feels like to be excited again like how many people listening today feel like they could just jump out of their bed and they were just so excited to get to work and I feel like a a Lotta Times. We're so busy glorifying this hustle mentality that we forget about like. What does it feel to just come alive and be excited to do what you're about to do and so lacking in so many people's lives? They almost think that. That's the way life is. I want to ask you a little detail a question because when you were telling you story about pitching the bride okay. Okay I get added. You were bright..

"Beiber on my name is Michelle and my question is. How do you overcome blockages? There's like mine is I've been told all my life that I'm not worthy of me knows that I'm worthy but I don't know how to get rid of it. I've had nothing but abuse abuse in my life on the day my butt hit the ground. I've been rejected and abused constantly and I'm always struggling to be successful astle. Can you help me with that. Hey Michelle how are you. It's far I'm Barbara. I'm doing good doesn't sound that way from your question. You know selling doing so good. Good there I tried to hang in there a fighter. You know I'm a survivor. So I just hang in there but now I I am struggling Michelle. What part of you is worthy in your opinion is worthy? What part my honesty and integrity? That's about as worthy as I feel. I'm on instant have integrity. What else us? There's a lot of people out there that can't use either of those words and mean it but you could use each immediate honest and have integrity not a bad place to start. What's unworthy everything else? Like what give me the long list. What's on worthy cups to my success have been successful in the past But for some reason my come success I'm not worthy. I just feel like I'm not worthy of it. I guess because it's always a struggle goal. It's always a battle when you say success to mean making money to meaning relationships do mean getting satisfaction. Everything all right so. Give me three things that you don't think you're successful or haven't been successful with relationships money and my time okay and you said to me just a moment ago that you were successful once in power you successful and you were What happened is I built a heavy equipment business for my husband at the time? He's my ex now but I was able to build it in six months I had generating one hundred and fifty ground and I have not been able to do that again. Well is it part because you're on your own and you don't have a partnership to work within with your ex husband. Yeah probably at. I feel like I need a partner. It'll be successful. Well that's a great thing to know about yourself. What was your role in that partnership in? What was your husband's role? He did all the repairs. But I did everything else invoicing saying that dealing with the customers who got the business. I brought the business in all he did was turn wrenches. Oh okay did he take credit for the business and forget that he was turning the wrenches and that you brought the business in and manage the business. Oh yeah and he made. My children believed to that I had nothing to do with it but I just used him. Or how long ago was your relationship with your ex-husband. When did you build a business? I ended everything back in two thousand ten so I have been struggling. It's okay ten year run or close to ten year run of struggling. Have you tried to build any other business in any kind of partnership situation Shen. Yeah right tried to build a foundation to help children heal from abuse and went nowhere like ten years. Nothing so you worked on that foundation which certainly sounds like a worthy cause for ten full years and never went anywhere just got sabotaged by everyone that I was around. Why do you think that is because they were jealous? Or they didn't believe in the cause or you collect the money and they stole the money. What was just what went wrong? It was all of the above. They collected the money and stole the money. They stole the spotlight. When it came to ban it was horrible? They pretended pretended to care. It always turned out to be an in the end. Okay and did they in the end end the charity or did you end it or did it just fade out since suspension. It's still legal. Ngo In suspension. And what happened to the money that was collected to benefit charity. Did it actually get the money end. Nope I just used what I did bring in and for expenses to try to keep it going. Try to keep things moving but then my partner my business partner ended up dying. Oh boy was he a good was is he or she a good partner no she was kind of hard to deal with. I'm still involved with people that she taught her therapy to. And so I'm still hoping hoping one day I might get it going again but I just had to put it on the back burner and take care of me for a while. So what brings you joy your family you case they bring you joy. Kids do That's a good place to start. Are they grown up where the little kids. They're adults and they turned out. Okay doing okay. Okay that's a to so you're great credit. I do need money to live on or you provided for in other words. Must you have a job until you have a job now. I'm struggling now as it is. I've been doing uber part time. And I'm working on a multi level business to as with gold. Oh so you starting another business. Yeah well I've started. I mean I'm part of it. I'm it's a slow build. I'm having trouble getting it built in love with it or not. It's a struggle. That's all just a slow slow process. It takes time. It's a network marketing company. It doesn't happen overnight so so you're willing to keep working on that right but meanwhile you do uber which yeah over spring the cash into pay bills pretty much. Yeah Yeah it's a side hustle. It leaves you free to do other thing absolutely. Okay I'm GonNa give you who I'm not so sure this visits you're working on your dedicated enough to really make a go of it. Honestly because I don't hear any passionate voice. That always is a red flag so you would know better than I on a scale of one to ten. How much do you wake up in the morning thinking? Oh my God. I can't wait to get in their work on that. That would be a ten wake up ten ten. I wake up in the mornings I thing okay. Well then there we go now. You have a me a believer but I think you're missing one thing in your life. It's a something in your life that a mite make a big difference. I think you need to find something to give to this something about when you give to something with no objective to bill something to win in favors to be light to find joy. Just give for the sake of giving the has a remarkable effect on the soul psyche or anything that gives you you. You've been abused as a child or maybe I'm filling up all your life right. Couldn't there be kids that you could relate to and if if not kids other adults and a form kind of thing rather than starting a business and raising funds and Dell that just sheer giving of yourself as something that you could give to. That's what I started. The foundation for was to give back because I'm a survivor and I feel like I can make a difference in people's lives but like I said it just got sabotaged numbers. Nothing that I could do. I'll tell you about something really simple like working in a soup kitchen or going on the street and giving coach to people who don't have coats uncomplicated. Easy two hours a week. Even is this something you throw yourself at. Yeah I know it sounds like a wacky solution to very complicated problem you have. That can't be turned back on time. Can't be reward. Kimchi Redone. But I am. I'm just a believer that when all else fails you throw a life preserver. Out to someone in a little way and while you're pulling them in you forgot what was going wrong with zero life. I've always been that kind of person that reaches out to other people. Even though I have nothing to give I still do it. I don't believe you have nothing to give. I can hear it in your voice. You have so much to give but what I'm suggesting is that you take that gene and that ability and experience you have to give and dedicate to Seoul hours a week just for that on a schedule as a giver. I think those two hours will be the happiest hours of your entire week and I think from that you'll find a source to do other things that bring a great satisfaction in essence. That's really what you're missing in life not so much success success that's defined by too many people too many circumstances but the feeling you get when you go to bed at night and you think you know. I really did a great job today. Even if it's as one little thing I did a great job. Okay Michelle his two things. I'm going to give us an assignment and I want you to try it and mean it number one. Stop feeling sorry for yourself. That's more new way than you could ever imagine. That alone will clear the deck and then the second thing is just find and one little thing you do every week maybe for two hours. Will you purely give just purely give soup kitchen help some kid. That's abuse become my big brother. Big sister go and give for the sake of giving what happens when you giving is you can't think about what's wrong with you. That's the beginning of the sure right. There you do that. You call back into me and tell me how you did. I think you're GonNa be surprised at what you find that. Okay all right. I'm on your side just like everybody else aside. "Well I think at this point in my life and many other female entrepreneurs and Dan Small Business owners is how does a woman balance trying to be a business owner and also maintain having a good love of life. Now we're finding a good partner. which is what I hear from all of my friends in New York City in La Everywhere? Okay we'll have some bad news for you. That's what starting a business. Is it stressful for morning tonight. Because he building building building with great uncertainty. And you're putting the effort out again again again with uncertainty as to whether you'll get any good results that's what business is. Stress is bad for the Libido. That's the fact. I went without sex for twelve for years building my business. I just wanted to shock. You said Oh my God I'm GonNa kill myself here nobody tell you. My sex was is not as frequent as I'd like and when I finally got a chance to jump into bed I wasn't very good at it. My mind was on my business so if you think that you can have it all when when you building a business the first thing that gives is your sex life I can tell you that I've been there done that and I'm not sure it's ever GonNa come back kind of scary right. That is scary well. It's the fact that we're living in a time. Now where I feel like more women want to live lives where they want to find a partner. Maybe after there's some what successful so it's leaving a lot of women in in the state of stress and for me as well like I do yoga and I work out but there is still we'll Alana distress. It's hard to figure out a way to still be feminine and still be in business. I read a lot about you. And how you say. You wear your Skirts in New York. You hike up your skirt. Oh did I really say that will just for the record it was just. I rolled up my top of my spirit to show off my legs bringing up above my knee line. I don't want girls out that thing. I hiked up my dress. Not How can we use our femininity and still be feminine and be in the business world in general well. I think that's an easier question. How do you maintain your femininity and yet be a powerhouse and build a business I think you use your femininity? And what's natural to being a woman that men don't got a women approach business very differently than men. I think there are certain gifts that lend themselves Dell's perfectly for entrepreneurship from the women's side of the equation. More the men for example women are less vested in the EGO generally Then we have have to get the credit so fast like a guy does they don't have to be the big man on campus. Or an instance. The big woman on campus They relate well between the lines. They understand were balances trying to balance a home in the workplace. A lot more than men do. They intend to stay more focused on their parties. They tend to build teams better. They can rally rallied people behind them to support them. Because I think of a little less ego there's a million things women have I think over men and building their own business. It's just when they're working for the next guy that they can't really demonstrate all those gifts and very often hit that glass ceiling and are frustrated. And don't play in the Rif Golf clubs and Blah Blah Blah Blah that. They don't do as well so that's an easier thing but you ask them more difficult question. You ask the question. How do I stay feminine? Beyond looking pretty eh and using my feminine gifts to get ahead of whatever. Those gifts are meaning what women do better than men. Okay but you're asking. How do I have a great romantic life or at least an acceptable romantic life? Have great sex and still be hyper focused on building a business which is so damn exhausting. It's exhausting is exhausting. Austin I'm going to give you an answer you don't WanNa hear which is you're not you can't possibly be as good in the bed as you're on the board room always it just just doesn't work out so the real question is how do you relieve yourself of pressure to keep yourself vital and interesting and attractive to the opposite lissette sex versus being so focused on who I WANNA be. What kind of romantic life? How do you keep yourself as a woman when you're not working attractive to yourself because that's the same thing that attracts men and I say the answer to that one is fun? How much fun are you having well? That's the key because I think for a while what what happened to me is I became very serious very mind focus because I'm an intellectual at heart so what happens is a hit that glass ceiling working for other the people other businesses that became frustration and in turn that frustration that I felt within my own professional life basically filter itself Out into my romantic life which I feel like with a lot of women because then you're like well I still have a partner and I'm still not as successful as WanNa be so who were the type of men and that I want to date. And how can I still be this juicy fun exciting woman when I am stressed out and most of my hours are going towards building something rather than. Let's say I'm going out dancing or dressing well for myself or going to a spa or doing feminine things because those things things tend to get pushed by the wayside in order to think about financial stuff. Yeah well I'm GonNa tell you it doesn't have to be. That is your answer. I know when I was building my business. I could've worked twenty hour days seven days a week. I loved it and I was doing well. I could see the Progress I was making and I adored the people that I I felt responsible for supporting but even when I was on my own just myself sitting at my rented desk answering the phone and trying to make a deal here and they had to meet next month's overhead the the fact of the matter is I wasn't so much fun because I wasn't having fun. You can't manufacture fun but I would say took me about two years to wise up and when I was wising up this is how it went something as simple which I did religiously and still do constantly is schedule yourself. A Fun Day in advance. I know it sounds weird but if you decide right now whatever day of the week it is one week from today or let's say you can imagine taking a day off on from today. Go into your calendar and Chris Today in label it fun. You don't even know what you're going to fund and often when I was crossing out the day my counter and labeling fun I was is the least bit in a fun mood. I'm like I was almost. Yeah right over to me. I'm going to have fun. Like what the Hell am I gonNA do. But I'll tell you immediately by that afternoon you know. I had preserved personal day for myself for fun. I felt immediate relief. It's kind of like you plan a vacation and you kind of like enjoy the vacation long before you get there because you can look forward to it. It's the end of the finish line. But I think you have to go through your calendar and part of your routine and this is kind of come back to sex in a minute and you're GonNa Cross out at least one day every two weeks just for the purpose of fun during the week not a serious Sunday. Because there's no such thing as relief from entrepreneurship when you were building business and none as seven days a week. Whatever you gotta give but you do? Whatever it's gotTa give which is great but you've got to have a piece of your life in parentheses co-fund and now let's say fun day's coming up three days away and years that I didn't even plan any fun? What am I gonNA do gonNA play with me? Nothing's fun unless I have someone someone else to play with them. One of those say okay. So whenever I cross touted day I would immediately send out an email while in those days it would be a phone call but in recent in years. It's an email to to people that I consider fun fun. People Nice people it was typically my brother t because he has a sense of humor and I was sent out an email and say they do want to have a fun day on August eighth and say what are we gonNA do. I said we'll figure it out but something about saying we will figure it out. I was already having fun and so so in the days when I was poor it was a somewhere right to Jones Beach New York and that's who I found out that many actually bathed nude enjoyed speech. I wouldn't have never found out if I was insured on funds. They do okay but the rich people don't know that no you have to be poor to find out that happens. Okay it could be. We're going into the section of Brooklyn that's emerging and we're going to investigate that and spend the whole day. What are we going to eat? What are we going to see? We don't know I heard from somebody who's really happening. You just take your or subway right to that place and that's what you're GonNa do for fun. Do you have a fun friend. That could schedule a fun day with you. Yes I have tons of fun thing is is his most of my friends have the same mindset is me though as so to get on the same schedule to actually have that day sometimes. It's a little bit of a struggle. Also the fact that I Amna in my thirties is a little bit more difficult because a lot of my friends also married not all but a good chunk of them are married. You know what I'm going to suggest. Sag honor that's definitely an excuse. Sputtering see some okay. You have fun. Friends tried to me. You give them two weeks notice you want to schedule a fun day. What are we going to do? I don't know I'll fill in. We'll talk about a few days before. I am sure you could schedule your next eight days this week. If you want okay all right early. Cool night I'm telling you you have fun and it's the most delicious magnet in life. You discover new things you meet New People. You have a different way of looking life. It puts a shine on the apple. More attracted to you. I feel you are in that energy and that space of enjoying even through the hardships because if you lose yourself and you get so down and out because you're not exactly where you want to be which happens to a lot of entrepreneurs because we're also living in a time of social media so there's this constant comparison of businesses or lifestyles. So if you're not exactly it's easy to say. Well I'm not having that funday like that person. Listen as but then like you said it's to really go within and say well. What are the ways? I could have fun in my own way. What are the things that I truly enjoy that it can do with others honestly sleep? It's not even important what you do or that you truly enjoy. That's not worth oldest. Gold is in having the day crushed out and he calendar. I'm telling you that's it you. Did you do anything you could sit on a curb and watch people go by on Thirty Fourth Street and make fun of the way they dress. That's fun I do that. I still have all the. Es Is all you have is a scheduling problem. Don't let another month go by get the first and the second date book and Roundup somebody to do it with. That's all and think yourself they cancel out. You need to confirm like four days in advance if they can slap in cahoots. Fallback is but never never never cancel a fun day when Ted or dead. I'm GonNa tell you I'll look back at my whole life and the one thing I'll be thankful for. Is that among all of my friends. I was more responsible for fun in their lives than any other human being they ever rent. They call me fun. And they're right. I am so fund so you become the Fun Queen Gene. I gotTA leave my crown to somebody. You're going to get it. Send me your million dress and thanks for calling. Agm Thank you and that's all the questions we have time for today. I hope you've found the advice. Helpful think I got it right then got it wrong. have an idea for a great guests. Come on give it to me tweet me at Barbara Corcoran using using the Hashtag. "Pleasure. Good Morning Barbara. My name is Ross. I'm calling you from Los Angeles California. Oh -Fornia I know you're the real estate queen and I watch charged tank. I'm studying to get my real estate license. The thing is I don't really have a strong passion for it as should I don't I'll have a passion for it at all but I'm just doing it for the money in that way. It could get me to where I WANNA be down the line so I'm using it as a tool. I just wanted to know if that's a good strategy. Go about it thanks. Hey Ross how are you. It's far high blood so happy to talk to you. I'm happy to talk to you. What do you think thing about that? I watch shark tank all the time Barbara and I always see there. I'm not there every single night of the week but I'm they're a good deal and let me tell you something. If you weren't watching other people were watching. I'd be out looking for a job right now. I'm really blessed American thing that I could talk. Do you not happy. My pleasure do my best to give you a hand you being so raw and honest with your question. What's wonderful about that? Ross is it gives you the ability to help other people which is what I really like so I got you question. And you're asking me very clearly. Is this a good strategy to follow. It's a terrible strategy. What are you out of your mind? You can't do real estate to make money. I've never seen anyone succeed at if you don't have a passion Shen for it and you know already before you even start your job that you don't have a passion he taking the course and you thinking that this will be a means to an end and the means it's going to provide us money to get to your end. Well bed news. Russ you're not gonNA make any money. In real estate. You have to have passion the talent the fuel in your belly to work at eighteen hours a day. It's not an easy business. People think it is because they think oh you just open doors known. Are you gotta find the customer. You GotTa Make Them Love You. You gotta find the listing. You gotta get it priced rate. You GotTa Make Them Love You. It is such an all encompassing job to be good at real estate. That if you don't have have the firing belly and you don't like just can't wait to get up in the morning. You Never GonNa make any money so now. The question really is barb. What else can I do? What are you good? Ross I'm into sports. I play a lot of sports. Suddenly a lot of soccer and I did a lot of customer service. I work with clients a lot. I worked for European automotive motive shop described that to me I can't quite visualizing well. I was working at European auto shop and I was selling some vehicles and giving advice car. Joe's my dad's is this. I was helping him out a little bit and what happened in that job was your dad's visist city sell it someone workout with them. Solely shutdown basically basically Too Bad too bad for your daddy probably put a lot of effort in even much more than you money time and maybe he should be calling me not you. How's he Doing five guys. He's working for a city job right now. He's in the automotive. I can see you guys really like cars. Is that right basically. I've been around for a while with in the business and before he had were really into lake exotic. Cars that stuff How did you like that? Customer Service. Dr You're selling and servicing. I was just doing what my dad was telling me. Pretty much servicing. The best thing I liked about it. Barbara was just communicating with the customers. As you know and helping them and asking questions best what I really enjoyed most the people the service providing that service which you have liked it as much as you did if you didn't know a lot about a foreign cars exotic cars and that knowledge key piece to enjoying the communication having the knowledge space to give good advice. was that important to you or not. I would say so. Yes netflix knowledge. That helps you gotTa really know what you're dealing with but like Gal come out too good on. That was just doing pretty much. I was like my dad's way he was always there. It was telling me what to say. Sometimes is the main expert. I was just like helping the helping about so. That's good you. Dad gave you two gifts he gave you training on sales and servicing. which is something you can use at any position and if you're good at it and he will give you the gift of leaving and letting you build a world for yourself which a lot of parents are unable to do so? His misfortune in my mind was your good fortune because turned the page in enabled you to go on okay. I'm GONNA stop you from continuing that education to go into real estate because so that's that's the wrong page but that you're turning a page good for you okay. Would you say your interest in cars is a big interest or is it just happened to be that moment and you really not that excite back cars honestly Barbara. I'm excited about cars. But it was Kinda like at the moment it was just that kind of thing. It's like a season in my life where I was in a mall with so I wouldn't say I'm like crazy about it down in the future. I wanted to start. Maybe some kind of business or something. That's why I thought I would try this real estate thing Z.. Maybe it will work out for me. It will give me to that financial freedom. I love the company. Barbara basically flip houses and stuff like that. I'm still new over there. They said I gotTa look for property. Basically like distressed homes. If they're interested I get like some kind of commission start off for that. That's what they do they flip halls in their late investors cash buyers. Yeah I got involved with that so I wanted to ask you. Do you think that's a good way to go about that or do you think that's all I'll tell you it's a terrible idea for you. Ross Perot yeah and I'm not knocking the business. I mean a lot of businesses that make a lot of money. The problem is they. They don't make money for the people that work for them. They make money for the equity players. The guys with the big fat cash in their pocket. They have the money to put down and take advantage. So I'm not saying that it's not a good career but it's much better as a career when you have money in your pocket. That's where you make the money. Not as a ferret to seek out the homes on a commission basis. You won't accumulate any cashed. I hope you don't mind me just telling you it is do you. Do I have your permission. Oh of course here's a here's the truth before I get into any trouble you're not gonNA get into trouble but you know you're GonNa do you're GonNa Piss away your time which is a shame because you sound like a smart guy who could very well in life you just strike me like that Kinda guy so you just have to find your well as to where you're going to do well. Well I think you're going to have to do it in two steps right. I think you're going to have to land some kind of job kind of like what you're doing with dad. We discover some kind of a aptitude chewed. You have so I would say from that. First Job I learn listening to you. Correct me if I'm wrong That you enjoy people very much. It's all like I. This bastard came in and I had had it. You know. That's not the Ross. I'm here I'm here. A Guy that likes people you chat him up. You liked cars wasn't your passion in life life but you like them well enough to know enough to really talk about it. Okay so that says to me that you're a flexible guy that you could probably learn a myriad of things and and probably talk the talk with people and they would probably respond well and really like you. You might be good in sales and if you're going to do well in any occupation especially eventually if you want to start your own business sales you have to have or you just can't succeed. You got a cell people on your idea. You Service your product coming along with you working for or you bearing with you when you can't pay enough it sell sell sell sell sills when you're building a business so let's assume you WANNA get there and I'm not sure you have a big passion for that. I haven't quite heard a yet but maybe you will feel very strong about that. But here's the RUB. have to find now. You have to find something that you're going to enjoy doing any ideas eight years not as a means to cutic- cash so you want to get to where you WANNA go. But what can you envision yourself. Enjoy doing just picture day where you're working. Can you picture working on a machine and joining us out really okay so we take off the list. Okay can you picture working grocery store at checkout counter. No okay take that off feeless narrowing it down. Can you picture selling exotic car. Say at a Mercedes dealer down the road I could Barbara yes K.. You know what I would do and I'm only saying cars because you have some experience there and you could probably get that position more easily than you could if you were selling computer equipment because you have it already on your resume. Yeah this is what I did. It's a natural background. You strike me like you could be phenomenal salesman if you like your product right and let me tell you why. That's the roads to riches versus working for the Real Estate Alfred. That you not excited about already before you even get started. What can happen there as you can? When owning your own dealership you could sell dealerships? You could franchise a new concept you discover when you discover a need with a few customers coming coming in always asking for the same thing and nobody's supplies that need your in the waters where this creativity because you're in your element because energy is flowing. Okay 'cause you're enjoying enjoying what you're doing. I'm in the camp of belief that people cannot succeed at what they don't enjoy just doesn't happen. You do sports at all. Ross I I play soccer a I love south. Is he ever see a great player. WHO's thinking really really hard playing in thinking? I better hop up now at this second three inches in the sky and catch the ball. That's eight inches beyond my reach my hands of five and just talk. No they just leap up in the Bulls in the hand. That's say love the game. You GotTa find a game you love and and it doesn't have to be a right position has to be a beginning position and then you look around and ask yourself every day why not me. Why can't I own a place like this if you think it and eat it and breathe it and visualize it you will have warning via customers? Walk in as your investor that puts you in business because I really believe I believe it. It finds you just like you find it but you gotta get into something you really enjoyed doing. That's not a taller. Just quit that job now. Tell them. Promise me quitting the the job of trying to be a real estate agent. Please tell me awesome Barbara. No no no that's not. I didn't WanNa hear that was awesome. Tell me you're gonNA STOP UPTURN AND BE A real estate agent for this company. I also okay. That's your promise. I trust you were a Ross. The one of the nicest things I hear your from your voice that you're GonNa have people respond to everyone for the rest of your life is. You're a good guy and people are going to trust you. Thank you very much. They do. Barbara Outmoded couple days ago dad watches it sometimes and he said he's I liked that lady. Barbara's earth is the real estate. Like hum one ask you. Dad Married happily here. We go baby. I might be step. MOM WHOA WHOA. Oh sorry sorry I forgot I have my husband. Bill of thirty five years waiting at home never mind number. I don't say that yet if the bill kicks the bucket I'll give you a call okay. Ross I'm.

"Barbara My name is grace race. I'm from Washington DC. You're one of my most favorite role models the question I actually have for you. Today is related to relationship. 'cause I literally just log onto instagram instagram. And saw your little wedding. Mr Wonderful and I was fate. How's it I just broke up with a boyfriend and my question to you is how do you know when someone pretty much real? And when they're fake and I know that maybe as time goes on and that's how you tell. How do soon they're fakes? You don't invest all this time into them where they're picking up on everything and they're being able to read you and your words and you know love bomb you basically and get you thinking that. Oh they're just like this but then down the road they turned out not to be and then they just kinda like leave you high and dry. Hi and then. Your head is spinning so I would love to learn more about that because it's pretty cool. How love and business are very closely intertwined line so this wisdom that you give to be will be very helpful and business as well think Barbara? Hi Grace's Barham so happy. You called in that question. Thank you very much. How dare any guy break your heart? I'm going to get a big student. Come out and beat the crap out of that guy thank you. He has an army coming. uh-huh so you one of many broken hearts that he's broken into shreds right or ripped to shreds. I should say exactly not not the only one going through. That still doesn't help. You don't want to be number eighteen or number one in your own club. It's a bad thing either way right and I'm getting the impression I'm from your question. Grace that this is a pattern. You've had happen again again again. Yes and how long do the relationships usually last. Usually they will be short. Lived like a week a day a one night let alone no no okay. Like I said it's between on average maybe five months so two two seven months okay and they always end at the guys always ended or you end up because you don't like the way they're acting yes it's usually the guys that end So they're telling you. Hey Grace. I'm sorry I'm tired of the whole thing. See you later alligator. That's kind of what happens. What happened and how does that make you feel well? It makes me feel horrible. You know I feel like I've invested this time and I've been open and transparent but then over time I see that they start to change orange and at first they were in the beginning where you know all open and all all four it but then over time it's as if they start start to change in their true colors come out and then they will end it. It could be just like a number of reasons but afterwards when I start to reflect its like wait. That's really not who they were in the beginning. They were just kind of wearing a mask throughout that I started to see more of their true colors. So how do you not get fooled and the beginning. Okay can I ask you. Are you surprised when they say to you. Sorry see later alligator later. Are you surprised by that or is it a confirmation of like of course I saw that one coming surprise when you run over by the train. It's more of confirmation. I mean when this first started happening you know what I started dating like baby. Two years ago. It was like the the first time that this happened with a guy. Like that's what I was surprised. I was like Oh wow. I'm very very shocked very surprised but now I do see coming on a a lot sooner. So these patterns that I feel like they're no longer going to happen in my life because I'm taking the time to really sit down reflecting learns now it is more of a confirmation but I want to be better at catching it in the beginning so it doesn't even result in any kind of wasted time. Okay cool cool let me ask you what have you learned. So far. What are the telltale signs has got to be re pizza He didn't call back when he said He said he had to spend this weekend and with his mother. What are the telltale signs? There are patterns in the long goodbyes. That guys use what are the first bed signs that you Bricks little thing in your head and you Don't know how that feels. What are they so the biggest thing is their actions not line up with their word? Old Boy I'd agree uh-huh like give me an example of an action that doesn't line up with a word. Okay here says okay. I'm thirty years old. I'm ready to settle down but then there's always like hey let's go to the club. Let's go to the club and I'm like wait. It's Sunday. Let's let's say Oh. Okay that's one. Give me another okay. So then another one for an action not lining up with words someone who says that they love you and you know they're saying saying like Oh you're my you're my person. I mean the the actions speak louder than words. So if someone's respecting you in honoring Yale you know keeping lines of communication open and and who will not visibly go and hit on girls in front of you. I feel a huge red flag. Oh my God that's not a red flag that's a tractor coming up and you're a fool to even be around for it right. My God I love you I love you. Let me hit on this one girl just this one girl. She's cute you don't mind and do you dear. You do my very much get mad at you bring it up and they say you know there needs to be some element of trust here okay. I'm going to give give you some hope. You don't mind some direct advice right gay store. That's what I'm here for. Okay all right the best part about you grace. There's an individual. I could hear it from the minute. You said hello or you got me on your her. Low is is that you're like an open book. You're happy you gleeful. I could almost must see you. Talking to me with big wide open arms is join your voice. You sound to me like someone if I hung out with you. I wasn't going to get depressed. You're very attractive. Are you good looking. Oh Yeah I bet you are so you got the good looks. Plus you got the wonderful personality that's GonNa draw every guy in. I don't think you'll ever have a problem getting a deep. That's not your problem. That's not why you're calling me. You want to know how to get rid of the clunkers fast. How to spot them how to churn them out? And you have already hit on the golden often rule of separating the men from the boys look at the actions not the words. The words are meaningless. The words will always tell you what you wanna hear especially when you have the hearts and birds in your eyes He's so cool. You're going to listen to whichever WanNa hear but is there a possibility that you could separate great your mind to people. Grace who wants to. Oh my heart is singing here and the grace again. Let me make a careful note of his actions actions from day one. What doesn't Gel in my mind? Could you become a observer and an editor of that to think. If you put your mind to it I I think I could. Because I'm now at the point where I want to be a lot more protective of my heart in my cell so yeah coming up with those two different people in my had. Well we'll definitely be helpful because you're not going to give up the happy. Go lucky loving grace that you are and that would be a shame is such a beautiful full grace. You don't want to tamper with that at all but what you do want to do is protect that grace. So you need a mother as part of your personality as well someone who's critical and has go That doesn't sound right. That doesn't sound like what he just did. And so that you keep careful record of that. I'm going to give you one other steps that I think is essential. You've got to hold back on sex period home back on sex and I mean it because you cannot judge as you tossing and turning with Hunkin bed. You just can't do it. It's going to soften your edges that you're not going to have the critical thinking you're going to need to see the signs as a happening. So let's saying typical guy that you're hot to trot with maybe a jump into bed on the third date none no no no. You've got to see how long he'll run. How much he values a US? You without getting sex. That's what I say. Okay sounds really. You know what you're going to bring that guy out for better or for worse he's GonNa disappear really fast or he's going to show his colors okay and that's what you want to have the good sense to really listen to well. You Wanna be able to listen to your own cold analysis of the guy and you can't do that while you're sleeping with them in my book. Okay okay. So how long would you say. Well I would say you want to wait on the sex until you know for sure you got a good guy. They're only guy deserves a toss in the. Hey It's not Mike you are dying and give your virginity and you gotTa grab the next guy that you see. No No. You've been there. You've done that. No you want to hold back on the goods until you find find the customers worthy and what makes them worthy not looking good or sounding good a being cool on the front side. What makes them worthy? Is he values you. And he's aiming for the same stuff that you want for yourself in life when it comes to love that's what you need. You need a partner that has the same values as you or it will never never workout and you'll keep going through the same thing again and again and here's a danger going through it. You're young enough beautiful enough and happy enough enough to handle it right now but dude another fifty times over the next ten years you'll be bitter and I would hate to see one speck of bitterness effect that beautiful grace that I'm talking to right now. It's not fair so you gotTa make fear for you and start being critical. Well you know the signs and what. I was so so relieved to hear the one line. You said that I said Oh. Thank God actually hit my knees here in the studio and start diet thanking the Lord above when you said judging by actions versus words that's the holy grail. You got it you know it so just make sure you separate enough to make those judgments on actions pure until you think the guy is worthy wonder what thank you so much and also building building up my mom's side okay. You mean your mom agrees with me. Imagine that okay. Don't give her an early grandchild before for. She's ready with the wrong guy. God forbid come on come on come on. I'm here for okay..
