Those extra. ten percent doses are more than johnson. Johnson has been administered altogether. Okay johnson johnson has been a very small sliver of american vaccination thus far the pause on the use of johnson johnson vaccine was technically just a recommendation from those government agencies but most states immediately halted use single-dose vaccine along with major pharmacies. Us military most americans with johnson and johnson shots scheduled in the coming days saw them cancelled rescheduled. Some states quickly switching those people to other available vaccines today. Dr anthony fauci said that anyone who got the johnson johnson vaccine more than two weeks ago should be in the clear so someone who maybe had a month or two ago would say. What does this mean for me. It really doesn't mean anything. You're okay because if you look at the frame the timeframe when this occurs it's pretty tight from a few days six to thirteen days from the time of the vaccination

"This is Democrat world know what I mean? But other than domestic violence most interesting for police officers go into. It's pulling people over that. You know that's where most police officers were shot and killed. You Look at the numbers. It's pulling people over late at night in a dark road and on, but it's a very dangerous for police officers. And he thinks that the fix is to disarm the police. This is this is Democrat Party thinking and in the 21st century and 2021. They really are the party of the criminal as opposed to being the party of sanity and civil society on their heroes are always the bad guys. They're wrapped. They're good guys are always really the bad guys. That's I just go down the list from honestly Trayvon Martin hung out, beat up the neighborhood watch guy George Zimmerman because he told his friend Rachel dollars, all that he's gay and Rachel dollars. How explained On CNN that you know he wasn't that way. And he was afraid that George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch guy would come follow him home and raped his little brother. That was the reason that was given for Trayvon Martin to stay and beat up the neighborhood Watch guy. And then Trayvon. Martin was shot by the neighborhood Watch guy who had a legal concealed carry permit. But still, the hero of the story is is Trayvon Martin and not the neighborhood Watch guy. There had been a bunch of burglaries in tray von with the burglary tools in his backpack. And somebody ever mind that. And Michael Brown, who, of course committed the Ferguson, Missouri. Black lives matter. Hands up. Don't shoot never happened. Hands up. Don't shoot never happened. Hey, committed as strong arm robbery against a small immigrant man in his store where he was just too moved to the United States trying to make ends Meet Michael Brown six. Ft. 5 £295 strongarm robbery stealing. What was that? You know, cigarillo thinks so. He could roll big fat joints and get more stoned. That was that was the thing. Freddie Gray in Baltimore riots for ages. Local neighborhood heroin dealer well known to the places the neighborhood heroine doing. Democrat elected official married to another Democrat elected official in Baltimore had called on the place to start stepping up policing of this intersection because of all the heroin dealers, and so when they did, and then Freddy great fleeing the police Apparently jumped out of the back of the warehouse and injured himself to the point where later he died. And the heroin dealer is the hero of the story. And they put six cops I think on Trump, and they looked like potpourri of races and ethnicities from the United Nations put him on trap on. It just goes on and on and on and on where the Democrat Party is and course they want to give the vote to everybody in prison because they know that prisons are filled with Democrats. That's that's the thing about the Democrats. Don't you know on gloomy share now? A another story. Remember Tamir Rice? Because this was was a tragic story. It was in 2014 and Cleveland, Ohio and a 12 year old kid of black kid. Name. There's actually only important factor here and you'll see what I'm where I'm going in a moment. November 22nd 2014 Tamir Rice 12 year old African American boy Wikipedia Page was killed in Cleveland, Ohio, by two police officer Timothy Woman, 26 year old white police officers see that's the only thing that matters. Rice was carrying a replica toy gun made by a company called Air Soft Air. Soft, All right. But you see, police were called to the scene when when 911 dispatched them to the scene because neighbors called him to say that there was a kid maybe a juvenile in this park and he had a gun pistol and he was pointing it at people and assuming a shooting stance and was pointing it at people in when the police arrived, there's you can hear him yell, you know, Drop! Show me your hands! Show me your hands. And apparently pulled up this air soft gun a toy gun and was tragically shot and killed by by a police officer. It's a terrible, horrible story, and it is and it's obviously it's terrible story. And and what do you know what the play's supposed to do? You don't have super senses your human being. But it was a tragic and terrible death of a 12 year old kid. Look like a nice kid. Now, Um, we're going through riots. There were riots last night, Minnesota writes in Portland in a riot riot everywhere the Democrat Party riots at the drop of a kufi on and they're violent party. There are politically violent party and there's really you can debate that if you want, but it would be a stupid losing debate. Um, And now I picked up my Washington post today. And also I want to get to the officer Billy Evans with Billy Evans of the U. S. Capitol Police who yesterday was received by the president of states to speak of the House, Senate Majority Leader and all that stuff Billy Evans laying an honor at the Capitol on amazingly, his death is now like an accident. Now CNN, calling it an accident. The time and apparently Fox News this morning, said that he was killed when he was hit by a car like he was crossing the street or something. But I'll get to that. So I'm going through My Washington post today filled with all of the abominations. Of the Democrat Party posing as journalism masquerading as journalism. And I got to the last page of the local news section. The Metro section the B section. If you go to the last page below the weather, and I'm not kidding, it's below the weather. Seen fatally shot by state trooper Now this is yesterday in the Washington metropolitan area, which is the You know, the rectal aperture of the news universe I think and a teenager with a replica gun was fatally shot Tuesday in a confrontation with the Maryland state trooper. State police said. The youth, identified by police as Peyton Ham, 16 years old, was shot in the Leonardtown area of ST Mary's County Police said he lived near where the incident occurred. Place that the teenager confronted a trooper with what turned out to be an air soft gun. A toy gun A, which shoots nonmetallic pellets, The Washington Post says the other non metallic because they're foam their little yellow foam balls and therefore should not your brother across the dinner table. Police said it resembled a real gun sound like Tamir Rice when to the riots begin, state police said The trooper was sent to the scene after two calls reported a male who was acting suspiciously and apparently had a gun. That's exactly what happened in the Tamir Rice case, precisely and exactly Police said A witness told them that ham the 16 year old took a shooting stance in quotation marks and was pointing his gun at the trooper before the trooper fight exactly like to memorize. Now. Here's the very important sense that this is the only sentence that matters. The Trooper and ham are both white Police said There was no indication that hands gun was not a real weapon, see how the standard has changed. Now there has to be proof that it's not a real weapon. That's the opposite of the standard that it was applied before after being wounded, and I've got to say I find this part to be a bit difficult to believe. After being wounded him. 16 year old boy with an air soft gun produced a knife, Uh, witness recounted because he's like Rambo on a suicide mission with an air soft gun and after he shot his air, soft gun laying next time he pulled out a white knife because he's with al Qaida is something I got a little trouble believing that part Ham died at the hospital, so white 16 year old with air soft gun is shot and killed. It's the last story in the B section of the Washington Post. On the back page on the only sentence that matters is the police officer and him were.

Philadelphia Eagles sign linebacker Eric Wilson

"Eagles have made some news over the last couple of days that we should pass along. The birds have made a couple of free agent signings Over the last couple of days and will run those down for you here. You can tell. It's a totally new eagles regime by the way when they go out and prioritize adding a linebacker in free agency although the eljay fort fiasco tells us not to count our chickens before they're hatched. The eagles signed former vikings linebacker. Eric wilson to a one year deal this week worth up to three and a quarter million dollars. There is a connection to the eagles. Here with wilson a linebackers coach. Nick rally spent time as wilson's assistant position coach for the last three years in minnesota. So you know so much time when you're adding free agents who your trading for players. There's always some kind of coaching connection especially here with the eagles over the last few years and that continues to be the case. Now wilson turns just twenty years old in september so he's a younger player and became a full time starter for the vikings last year. How do you really solid season for them to record it. One hundred twenty two tackles eight passes defended three interceptions in one forced fumble clearly. He's the number one linebacker on the roster. Right now. he'll be atop the depth chart he'll be the guy starting at middle linebacker unless something totally unforeseen happens. And i'm still kind of trying to figure out how the eagles got their hands on them at this stage in the off season for it for as little as they did and considering the salary cap situation that they're in and we know that this is not a position. The eagles have prioritized a whole lot. In recent off seasons they did again. Like i mentioned a sign eljay for contract very early in the offseason. Two years ago when it seemed like their third free agent off the board and they gave him a lot of guaranteed money. And then jim schwartz never played them and they cut him in midseason in the baltimore. Ravens picked him up in a hurry and he played great for them in the second half of the two thousand nine hundred and season to the point where they signed him to a contract extension before the season was out and eljay ford would have been a very big help in the eagles on the eagles. Defense these last couple of years and so we're kind of. I don't think this is going to go that way Eric wilson has has has a little bit more to his resume than eljay ford did when the eagles picked him up

"I'd like to do from an offensive standpoint what hear things that you're comfortable doing and it sounds like they have found a happy place. So to speak, it's right. One thing that Tom has always been known for right is getting the ball out quick, right. So in Bruce's already saying, you look our defenses already seen how he gets the ball quick and that's going to help them when we play drew drew brees and Teddy. Bridgewater. So it sounds like he's already in a nice little group. So for Tom what does that mean for him I wouldn't be shocked to see him throw for four thousand yards, thirty touchdowns, sixty, seven, sixty, eight. percent completion percentage eight yards per attempt that of season we're sitting there going them. He didn't miss a beat because he seems like he's already in a nice group white novel not have have an all season and having a condensed training camp which speaks to just how special this man is. Tom Brady Yeah I. Mean When you look at Tom Brady Yeah, you look at Tom Brady like this surprises me it was pretty cool. There's two of the things that you guys we're talking about. I was the part of I was in that same camp with rg three when they got to see or when we got to see Tom Brady. Detail that Bill Belichick was about the tied the way that team took the field before us they took it as the team. There were certain ways that they warm up that they did as a team. They also cooled down as a team. It was a very different feel and listen. It's not to say that that's the always the right way to do. It for everyone with that's the Patriot Way and then you talk about Bruce Areas saying that Tom Brady gets the ball out of his hands quickly I want to thank back has Bruce Arians ever coach to quarterback that got the ball out of his hands quickly. No right I play with. Bruce when we were in Pittsburgh and we held onto the ball got. The ball down the field. So so so so what I'm saying is what I love about. It is right now we know what type of coach Bruce Areas is, but he's already seeing that Tom Brady is getting the ball out of his hands quickly I practiced with. Let's me know Tom. Brady has his imprint on this Bruce Arians Byron left which off off it and that is amazing that means there's a compromise that means this is what Tom Brady said is we're going to do this together this is something Bruce Areas buyer left which and Tom Brady For the Tampa Bay buccaneers and I think the sky's the limit for this team they'll challenge for the NFC south will be a playoff team and when they get into playoff who is going to count a gets or WHO's going to go against what Tom Brady do. I know. One thing is we've never talked about the buccaneers more in an offseason NFL live. Then we have this year and I expect this is going to continue into the season and it's all because of Tom. Brady. Moving on to a more serious story last night Washington head coach Ron Rivera told our Adam schefter that he's been diagnosed with what he called lymph node cancer after a self check. Rivera shared the news with his team Thursday night, and he says, the cancer is in the stages considered very treatable and curable he plans to start treatment shortly. Rivera had this to say about his diagnosis I was stunned but I was angry because I feel like I'm in the best health I've been in I felt a lump in my neck saw the team doctor took a look and this is the result as for his plans for this upcoming season. Rivera said I'm planning to go on coaching doctors encouraged me to do it too. They said if you feel strongly. Don't slowdown do your physical activities but everyone keeps telling me by week three or four. You'll start feeling it and then what I don't know we'll see. Players. Coaches and teams took to social media to show an outpouring of support for Rivera and sending him love and well wishes his current team wrote we love you riverboat Ron. Hce. We're all with you Stephanie Christopher and Courtney of course, referring there to his wife and children former panthers tight end Greg Olsen played for Rivera and Carolina. So we love you coach. You have so many people in your corner. You always looked out for us now it's our turn. Former cowboys wide receiver Dez, Bryant whom you may remember from the two thousand seventeen season how to try out with the Ravens yesterday but left as he often does without a deal according to Jamieson Hensley it's possible. The Ravens could add Bryant at some point but nothing is imminent with the three time pro bowl remember Bryant's last appearance in an NFL game was week seventeen of the two thousand seventeen season when Lamar Jackson was still at Louisville, Dez Bryant and Antonio Brown both entered the League in two, thousand, ten they're. The only receivers in the NFL. To record seventy plus touchdown receptions over the last decade. But Bryant hasn't played as we mentioned since twenty seventeen and Antonio Brown played just one game. Last season is currently facing an eight game suspension to start this season but we are on the topic of veteran receivers have been incredibly productive in the past and could potentially help a team that's looking for wide receiver. So Ryan Clark if Dez is out of the mix and Baltimore should the Ravens seriously consider taking shot on Antonio Brown. Absolutely listen I shocked myself because I came up in the off season I was like no way. You don't bring him into a locker room. The has so much cohesiveness where the such a family chemistry and then I started thinking wait you don't have to miss eight games when he was in. New. England all the teammate seem to love him Lamar Jackson from the bottom to from Miami from the bottom of Florida. He has his cousin already they're Hollywood Brown. This is. Perfect and the reason you bring Tony Ronin over Dez Bryant is because he's not just the guy if you bring Antonio Brown now you've gotten prolific outside the numbers and where does Lamar Jackson struggle the most outside of the numbers but when you bring it Tony O'Brien into your own, you have to understand who he is. Now he has to also understand who he is his back against the wall. He doesn't get another opportunity and when you have a strong head coach. Coach Harbaugh when you have a great organization like the Baltimore Ravens and a young star quarterback who you are ready get along with this sounds like the spot for me and if the Baltimore Ravens want to compete in the playoffs against the Kansas City chiefs against the Pittsburgh steelers against the Houston Texans, I believe that adding Antonio Brown after his eight game suspension is the way to go. You get a prolific player who has to understand that he needs to total lie. Lewis when you look at Lamar Jackson Paul Smell. Is. Already had place. Yeah you know it's interesting. You know what I it's wasn't. The thing about the thing about it with Baltimore's this is they have the luxury of time. Right? So they can't get him until after week eight anyway. So I think they're going to find out whether or not they need them and I think they actually had the potential that some people on their roster that they're already setup for success is that everybody needs to take another step forward including Including Lamar Jackson now, thinking about Miles Boykin is a tremendous tremendous prospect mark. He's Brown has put on weight this off season. He says, he feels stronger and top of being one of the fastest players in the NFL draft do rene out of Texas. Who is one of the fastest players in the NCAA last year the play in the Slot Mark Andrews, one of the best pass catching tight ends in the NFL they've got two running backs now in Mark Ingram, and then they draft take jobs out of Ohio state. So look they're loaded, they've got plenty of weapons now it's not like Baltimore is hurting, and then Lamar has to take the next step. He has to prove the people this when I. Don't have the benefit of play action, pass those sleep on me. I will still cut you up from the pocket although I led. The NFL in touchdown passes from the pocket last already, but you still believe in me. So I'm GonNa Take My gain twenty another level and on top of it I can still run better than most running backs in the. NFL Anyway. So I think there's still set up for success and I think they have the luxury of time. This is see what happens through these first eight games if they're hitting on all cylinders and all these players are coming along, why would you take the chance for someone who has proven time and time again that when the rubber meets the road? He cares about himself more so than he cared about anyone else, why would you risk that? Now if it comes if it turns out that they're not doing anything in the passing game and they feel like they're going to still be at a.

"Last season the steelers tied the second largest drop-off in total qbr since the metric was I tracked in two thousand six only the cardinals two, thousand, nine to two, thousand and ten in the larger drop and that was the off season. The Kurt Warner retired Pittsburgh Qbr drop off tight Indianapolis from two thousand and ten two, thousand eleven minus thirty eight point four that was the end of the Peyton manning era with the colts and with Big Ben Returning Twenty twenty with the steelers reclaim their stop spot is one of the League's best. That's the question I posed to you marcus can this be a top ten offense two, thousand, twenty? Well. First of all feel year they fell off, they play with the goose at quarterback that's number one. You look at what Philly has had the ability to do I, mean. When you look at what Fitchburg has had the ability to do. They've always been built on the defensive side of the football. We can go back Jeff, Saturday knows, shefty knows we can go back as long as we want to go back and for as good as they've been off offensively, the defense has been apart to get them into that super bowl contention and really take them over the Hump but. Yes look if. If being robbed as Burger King, county for two more wins on eight win team that legitimately are joke. But legitimately did not have clue how their quarterbacks would perform of from week to week. They definitely could be a playoff team but atop tan offense I don't see it right now. Do Missiles. Schuster. Who I think is a really good football player to me still has a lot to prove and maybe maybe a of a narrative I remember Antonio Brown and Lady On. Bail in this offense and what him and being what me and being, and we're doing the people. I. Was on a Ravens team. When you knew that three headed monster was take advantage of everything you're trying to do I. Think James White is a good player out there why receiver I have so much respect for James, Connor and how he rose. So this office could be really good but I'm not ready to put them in the section of top ten offense yet. I will say this I agree with Wu on the deepest out of the ball, this team is starting to get back to that fear that fear some defenses that you used to play right there kind of their way back into those conversations authencity I actually agree this going to be a top ten ears why would say that? If you look back at last year it offensive line Kinda took a step back or that's what everybody thinks. But at the end of the day, you can't run the ball when no one's afraid that you can throw it. So so Beca swaggers original point when you're ruining two bags didn't rule one scared about all the sudden. Defenses walked down, they can give you looks that will prevent you from being able to run the ball effectively to now all of your numbers look bad I have played on a team when Peyton manning was injured and I watched our office when all the sudden we went from scorn so many we're all trash right and everybody's got let me say been gets back to seventy five percent of what he was it twenty eighteen now eight to six hundred and something passes he can't do that on the elbow but let's get back to seventy five percent of what he wasn't twenty eighteen. This team will be a top ten deep and here's another thing Mike Tom. Last year day he almost within for coach of the year with what he had and what he was doing I'm a miracle. Word. Is Do. So as you're looking at football team, he understands how to win big gains. You understand how to take this team to the next level. Now we got to do is make sure bins elbow kind of hold in there. If he does, it is definitely a top ten dot in all sorts of quarterback storylines in the AFC north this off season as they're the only division that has four projected starters were all first round picks when they entered league. Bryant was out of the NFL during the twenty, nine, thousand, nine, th season while recovering from an Achilles injury but returned to the gridiron could be on the horizon the former cowboy stars working out with the Baltimore, Ravens a team looking to add depth to Lamar Jackson's group of pass catchers. Jackson. Had this to say about Bryant on Tuesday. We got a lot of. Great receivers we'll see right now but. Is Up to the Front Office Obviously. On instagram and stuff like that run his route and competing against some pretty good on on social media but. If the front office. Privacy we do. We all look good instrument. That's the point of it. Desperate to twitter to say this, you can run the ball a thousand times. All I care about is winning and only when. All right. Let's bring you in on the workout plans What do you know about this Dez Bryant workout in the possibility of him landing with the arrangements? Well, it's worth a look at this point in time for the Baltimore Ravens they hope that they can help Dez and they hope he can help them. They hope it's a mutually beneficial relationship. The fact of the matter is they'll be working him out tomorrow now that he's gone through Kobe testing, they'll take a look at him along with the wide receivers to see if he's worth signing at this particular point in time. But I, think people have to remember this isn't Dez Bryant and his prime be Dez Bryant and a specific. Role and they want to see whether or not. He still has it whether or not. He can help them. I also think it's worth noting sometimes these things happen in football where you've got a guy out there with a relationship, he's got a certain agent. His Age also happens to represent Ronnie Stanley, the Ravens offensive tackle. So sometimes, teams are more willing to look a certain way to help their relationship is they continued talks for a new contract with. Ronnie Staley a little olive branch never heard through negotiation with all pro left tackle marcus. Sheffi. Said, the raiders are going to figure out whether desert left in the tank. Do you think he does have something left to give to? Baltimore. Really, do you look at what Josh Gordon was able to do in his time when he returned football and I'm not saying this is as talented as Josh Garden even though there's a hard argument that his his best years were very similar to what he did. But if you look at this Ravens Team, you look at Brown on our side who is full of speed but not a big body guy you look at providing depth and also in the radio where he was at his best that ability for this to steal, go up and beat receivers to the point of attack is still there. I've seen him workout. I've heard guys talking about an he's worked out with Mahomes. He's worked with some pros and the only way you can get a legitimate look as if a team bring you in a you can beat and I believe there's is still one of an uber competitor is the one thing we never questioned about this brand during his career would he compete at the highest level and the? Thing that I know about our ball being in Baltimore for one year. He loves guys that will compete and go against whoever they need to go against in order to get a job. So I think it's a good land of SPA. I think this team and the way they're built and their mentality lends itself to the way. Dez Bryant plays football, and hopefully he can get a shot with the writers. Yeah I agree. So I got I. Think when you look at even the tweet that he just put out. Probably says it all me a about him anymore right. He's not going to be the guy for the Ravens. Even if they sign, he's GonNa be a guy. He's GonNa have a role to play and he's going to have a job to do and he's willing to do it whether it's block for a thousand times and catch one ball. If that's truly his attitude he walks with that type of humility I think that are. Goes a long way to help in the rain because you need guys who are willing to do that and swagger may other great point red zone whether you're blocking going up big body receivers help you in a big time way. As a fan of football, we fun to see Dez Bryant back in the NFL does indeed have some juice left to help the Baltimore. Ravens. Jeff, this is your first time being an NFL lives since the tragic passing of your longtime position coach Howard.

"This team like Jeff alluded to, they are primed to be good regard outside of the quarterback being prolific take care of football put it in the hands of the guys that can make plays and we can we can win games. Right the NFL is is a lot to do about not beating yourself most teams that. We see have terror Lou for out there just Saturday can attest to this the degree of separation between the best team and the worst team in the NFL is not that wide of a gap believe it or not is one or two plays to two or three things happening injury away things like that. So Philip rivers was brought in to be that extra part that India needed in addition to what they already are for their mindset being women Super Bowl but obviously, we know they in. AFC and we know who else is in the AFC and I'm not gonNA act like they beat them to get to super bowl. Let me tell you right now the city by the way everybody that I'm talking. Well, we knew who you were talking about and this team this team is more loaded I think people realize everybody knows the Great Job Chris Ballard, did you offensive line but they got surplus of weapons all of a sudden on the side of the football that I think have kind of flown under the radar a little bit everybody knows that they've got Paris Campbell of former hypic coming back from injury this year. You have Michael Pittman? They draft in the second round this year who's already shined during Camp Jonathan Taylor former running back already shine during camp. So there's some young blood to mix in with veterans, T. Y. Hilton and Marlin Mac, and to have this blend of youth and experience that I think gives this offense. It makes an underrated unit that people don't realize and it's better than people think there's one player on the. Be. Under appreciated and he feeds off the critic. So I'm just going to name Darius letter because the guy never gets any love their linebacker and always feeds off of lack of loves we're going to give him some love here on Nfl live well known Philip Rivers. This record he actually wants to remove himself from no player NFL history has more passing yards and touchdowns without a super bowl appearance then Phillip himself interesting. The steelers reached five hundred last season despite be without Ben Rothlisberger for fourteen four games their star quarterback back at help. Amblin elbow injury working with his teammates in the early stages of camp. Objectively you know remove me from the fact that I'm a steeler but like I just don't see how are often cannot be super productive. and. Be One of the top offices in the NFL. So I think the excitement is obviously you know everywhere your are building the potential of what we know that we can. We can reach the numbers that we know.

Issues that are going to last for a very long time, so let's talk not about this particular pandemic, but about the idea of viruses more generally, and there's probably no more expert person to talk to than today's guest David Baltimore who won the Nobel, prize in physiology and medicine for virus related activity back in the nineteen seventies. He has collaborators were the ones. Ones, who showed something called reverse transcription? You might know that in genetics in cellular biology. There's something called the central Dogma that says the DNA stores Information Aren a goes over the DNA in gets assembled in a way that can pick up that information, and then the rn a carries it over to be converted into proteins. That's the central dogma. The DNA stores the. The carries and then proteins are constructed so reverse transcription as discovered by Baltimore and others shows how aren a can actually go in effect. The DNA in fact turns out that in viruses unlike an every other kind of information carrying organism. I WANNA say living organism because there's a debate about whether viruses are alive or not, but let's say that back and forth. Forth between DNA and RN and proteins is really rich inside viruses, and as Baltimore went onto show, this has important implications for things like how viruses can cause cancer, specific kinds of viruses, the HIV virus, and indeed right now when you talk about different kinds of viruses, you'll probably refer to the Baltimore classification of viruses, which is named after David, not after the city. City of Baltimore so for most of this episode we talked about what viruses are. Are they really alive? How do they interact with organisms with genomes hop from one kind of organism to another, but then we do at the end to get a little bit more specific about the current corona virus, and also about some bigger picture questions about gene editing about the. The origin of consciousness and I asked gave a little bit about what thinks about how corona virus has impacted US and how we should be responding to it. Let me just say that he has strong word. This afford how we been responding to it and how we could do better not necessarily about social distancing anything like that, but how the public health infrastructure. Infrastructure should be ready for things like this in this day and age. This should not be taking us by surprise. Today's stop brings us to Baltimore Maryland. Where we recorded this episode at the Beautiful Bar Vazquez. Thank you to carry gold for supporting our food for thought tour carry. Gold is the Irish brand known for its award. Winning butter and cheese made with milk from grass fed cows from family farms. Oliver Ireland will be hearing more about their amazing products later. So stay tuned. Also thank you to visit Baltimore for making this event possible I up. We'll hear from Dietitian and recipe developer Jessica Grossman about how her love for recipes led to her meeting with someone very special good evening. I'm Jessica Grossman a registered dietitian recipe. Developer in culinary instructor am also wife. My husband's sitting right there. A mother a home cook at a paper lover. It's this love of paper what it represents in the kitchen. That brings me here tonight. How many of you grew up with a box of recipe cards on your kitchen counter? Handwritten and often grease-stained. I used to shuffle through my mom's box when I was barely tall. Enough to see over the kitchen counter as an ambitious eight-year-old too impatient and too lazy to look for a recipe. I nearly burned my house down trying to cook pancakes recipe. Cards were my first entrance. Point into the food world. But they lacked the visuals that are key for any great recipe while my friends were reading. Sweet Valley High Books. I was reading my Mom's good housekeeping magazines always on the search for visually appealing recipe. That I could make with my ever increasing skills and confidence in the kitchen. I used to watch Julia Child on. Pbs and I often imitated her voice. As I cooked. My sister preferred the Swedish chef on the muppet show. But I knew that Julia Child was the real deal by early adolescent years. I became obsessed with food and cooking. Besides my mom's recipe box magazine clippings..

"I'm getting paid for this right Erin first question. Do you wish the name England patriots had kept. It's either Jacoby percent or Jimmy Garoppolo. No actually I don't because I think it would just been I mean Garoppolo especially would have just been too much money under the cap to try to keep both Hitmen Brady. I think it made sense to draft them when they drafted them but to move on and try the next guy. I don't think did I. I missed the next guy. Though do you wish the New England patriots had drafted Lamar Jackson. Yeah okay. That was just a follower unnecessary. Follow up question to Thanksgiving is next week. What is the best Thanksgiving dish I'm a sweet potato guy. I love sweet potatoes no marshmallows. Just the sweet potatoes agree. I'm very anti marshmallows Davis with PECANS. Okay that's good question three. Where would you like to see Cam? Newton play football next year. I like the Chicago idea. Yeah I think that's a put put Cam Newton with that defense. How Howard Robinson instead and Trey Burton to throw to Montgomery to play running back. I think that you can do something really interesting there. How much do you think it'll take terrible with no numbers on quarterback contracts to be honest but to try it? I mean because last week I said if he was still hurt maybe like a second or a third not still hurt but like you know what I mean. Obviously there's GonNa be no way of knowing exactly if he's the problem is you. Don't know how her he is. And and how much can your doctors look at him before you make a trade I mean as far as training because the thing is you trade for him and then you want to sign him to a new contract right because he's he's only on for one more year. Yeah well it's not just narrate you also want to. You probably WANNA go. She had a new contract with him rather than having come over for one year later duck might not want to. He might want to wait it out right for what you've got but you're taking a risk that way question four. What is the thing that people get wrong about football analytics that bothers you the most that we don't watch the games question five? This is from Lenny. He says he's a big fan but he wants to know how you can be a football football expert if you never watch games that only look at spreadsheets. You'd be surprised man. I also want those little dots from the the next Gen. Stats love the dots. We love the DOTS here. So you know you don't have to watch games when you have little dots moving around with arrows and stuff..

"Wherever you get your podcasts next statement Aaron Russell Wilson is the League's MVP? This is a tough one. I'm GonNa say but I think the remainder of the season definitely decided we'll say that it is definitely GonNa come down to these. He's finals you games. Yes and Seattle. Has it tough. Over the rest of the season they have the six hardest remaining schedule Whereas Dallas Right? I mean we agree. Prescott should be a candidate. They have the seventeenth. Hardest remaining schedule. Baltimore has the twentieth hardest remaining schedule schedule for Lamar Jackson. I am somewhat partial to the idea. That Wilson's candidacy makes sense. Because he has less help than Mahal. That or Lamar Prescott Mahomes or better in our numbers and Lamar Jackson. When you combine nine rushing and passing as such phenomenal numbers? There is the argument that the offensive line is poor in Seattle that. He's dealing with a rookie. His second wide receiver as rookie is certified receivers like Jaron Brown. tight ends have gotten injured right. He's down to like Luke Wilson so Not a good argument. He has less to work with than the other two. Yeah I think it's statistically it's really neck and neck between everyone you just describe deck is like I feel like analytics. Twitter is really gotten behind deck. I'm with that because the cowboys are basically the seahawks but between Russell and Lamar Mar again like when you look at Lamar rushing prediction i. It's really pure passing perspective. It's it's Wilson but when you when you factor in what Lamar does with his feet to its It's neck and neck right now. I think the way you would lobby for Russell is it really depends on. What are we talking about when we talk about the war right If you're looking at value to a team it's really hard to argue against Wilson given the Ravens have like the second best offensive line per pass block. Doc Win rate. The seahawks have like the twenty eighth. I think they have a worse head coach. I think they obey significantly worse defense. Pf George tweeted this morning. The seahawks have run three hundred. Forty seven plays when they're losing and they're eight and to no other team with more three or forty plays has a winning absolutely Louis argument and Wilson's favor. I will say our ratings. We have Dallas and Seattle's defense virtually tied really. Yeah over the that. Yeah Dallas and Seattle like the team. Basically yeah right like in so many ways I think. The Lamar better defense backing him. Than Prescott or Wilson. He's got a lot of things. I think. I did better in the League in staff but the problem with Mahomes is you have to kind of balance it against looking. Look at what Matt Moore did while I was out but I'm more was reasonable when mahomes out because that's scheme and the talent of all the receivers on that team are so good Seattle's Eytan too. I think if Russell Wilson wasn't the quarterback they would be to eight is that denotes overly harsh. Maybe it is three and seven it may be overly harsh but three three and seven four and four certainly not overly are all right that was the homer segment next statement. This is kirk cousins year. Real or not no. I'm afraid it's not. I'm sorry Kirk I mean you're playing well and everything but the NFC is just too much of a dogfight right are playoff odds right now. We have Minnesota fourth in the NFC and super bowl odds and honestly even though Dallas has a worse record. I liked Dallas better in Minnesota right now. I would have a better chance. You know they. They're not they don't have as good a chance of getting a good seat. But I don't think this is Kirk. Cousins is here well. Let's start with cousins. How well do you think? He's playing now. Statistically he is ten key our second in passer rating he ranked second went in. NFL next-gen completion. Plus minus stat behind Ryan Tannehill Yeah he does. He's actually holding the ball no longer before any longer than any quarterback in the NFL right now some of the acid. You think how much play action. They're using their than any other team. I believe it's like thirty six percent or something. Yeah and then the you know that was. What's so crazy by the way about the BIZARRO? Insane broncos game is in the the first half he attempted just one play action pass. And it's like guys figure this out you have to play action. Why why why did you not have verbal is that they know he's better with play action and that works for them and for some reason they didn't do in the first half but limited next to you? Do you think he is having winging very good season. Yes I kirk cousins is. The player creates the biggest gap. I think between what stats people. A A and what scouting people see and so. He creates a lot of debate because the numbers for him always come out good. It's kind of infuriating because I have said this on his podcast before. But you're like defending Kirk and you're like no really the stats and then always always lays an egg on prime time and everyone's numbers are wrong. He's he's clutch and there's really no argument about it because he really isn't clutch. But yeah you're right. I think just physically from a few games he's been he's had a good season. I think the Vikings defense is very weird. It's just not like Mike Zimmer. Defense obviously the past events or maybe not. Obviously somebody got mad about saying this but the past defense has been super spotty especially against E. passes and think Harrison Smith is banged up. If that's for Real I think it could get worse. Because he's had a really good season so I don't know what's interesting. Not a road has been one of the best cornerback. Here's and remember what I said about quarterback play being really consistent. He's been horrible this year. Yeah it's really really depend on that. Pass rush it's not there. It's interesting by Seattle's playing Minnesota and the eagles down the stretch if they don't want Russell Wilson's role in those games. I'm going to fly in banner over the via complaining about the play calling but between the soda and Green Bay. Who Do you think is better football team right now? I think Minnesota is the better football team but I think that Green Bay has the better chance to win win the division because they do have the half game lead and I believe that they have an easier schedule down the stretch. Minnesota does all right last statement boop money just shook because he doesn't like this last one given to a tongue of our lowest injury and I realize that we can't really speculate about recovery and that sort of thing but safe to say it certainly jeopardizes advertises his drafts strath prospects. Should the Miami dolphins just take chase young. I don't think that was a question. Not a statement. Have I don't think they're going to have shot at chase. Patrick doing look at what he's doing right now. While Washington definitely has a better shot at the number one or number two pick than Miami does. And they're gonNA try to take I mean I. I don't know what other quarterback other than borough people thinking is top of the draft. We may all talk ourself into somebody by the time. April comes along I mean I've been saying unfortunately it's it's probably they're probably not gonNA pick in the top three so it's not gonna get to them but what makes the most sense as far as like league. History is for chafee to go to the New York giants to shouldn't the best pass rusher beyond the New York giants. Let me about the dolphins right given how everything's shaking out given their unwillingness to tank continue to keep the fish tank going. They have a lot of cap space next year and last week we talked about how. It's going to be a very interesting interesting quarterback offseason. What if they just didn't draft a quarterback and they went after one of the veterans potentially actually through a trade or through signing? I mean I think that makes some sense but which I mean. It's unlikely they're going to get their hands on Prescott and I still don't think radio brees is going to another team really So you're thinking like bridgewater are or ten wins dinner I don't know it depends on sort of where they pick can. And what what what what. What the top quarterbacks are whether we think there's more than just chill borough at the top of the draft completion plus minus leader Ryan Tannehill returning to to the dolphins yeah? I don't think that's going to happen. I think he he's somebody who needed a new breath of fresh air and got it. I don't think he wants to go back to the same stagnant air that he was coughing. And before I kinda think I said is last week I kind of think Tennessee is gonNA keep in this season or after the season. That's definite possibility. I mean he's played really well like their offense has been like the top ten offense over the last few weeks. I doubt that that continues in the long run. Same thing I said about could land a defense I mean sometimes splits just happened and you just go on a nice little run and the offense was definitely better with Tannehill than it was with narrow. It's such a shame. Mariota was so good in his second year and just with injuries and stuff he just fell apart. Yeah I feel like he never bounced back from. I think it was right after his third year right was when he was he missed. How many games it it was like and I think he just never kind of got back to being himself dope and yeah so well? Let's wrap up this way with the dolphins. Then let's say okay. They win a couple more games or something maybe one more game and they finish with like I pick what do you do. How do you approach this off season? I think you take the best player available at that pick. I wouldn't be surprised if you use your second or third for how many I pick the three a so many Or do they only have to. I can't remember whether they have to at every round. And you use your second first draft. Pick your first second round. Pick A quarterback. Maybe you sign a veteran but you also draft a quarterback but not necessarily with the fifth pick. Maybe you take the fifth pick you take offensive line offense. There's an offensive tackle ACKO who people consider is GONNA go really high pass rusher although chafe job is not gonNa make it to five. You take one of this year's many amazing wide receivers. This is an incredible because of wide. Receivers I think with all the picks you have. You don't necessarily have to reach for a quarterback at five. Do you think that is my last. Ask question like that invalidates the process to get there like to do everything. They've done trading way Tunsil of his patrick getting the cavs space. And then just kind of ending up with no top quarterbacks in the draft well like I said I mean they could take like I mean I I don't know where Jake Franz go but you know or early second round. Draw Jake thumb or Herbert or something I don't think they would end end up with no quarterback and I mean the thing. Is that you dump all these players and you build all this draft capital so you can get as much talent as possible google. So what's important is just the draft as much talent as possible with these pets. I've got a few more questions for you but before I get to those WanNa remind you guys..

"Me about this. There's a number of things interesting. I think to me about the Patriots offense but air last year you remember people were pointing to the Patriots in how much they used running backs. They're run pass pass balance how heavy they win and said see running matters. The Patriots won the Super Bowl and they ran. And you know maybe they're taking the rest of the. NFL is adding so this year. They're about they did run a lot more than most. NFL teams last year this year. They're fifteenth in run pass balance But you've seen them go more towards passing effect since week six. They have run over sixty four percent of snaps out of eleven when they're well below the League average on US twelve and that reflects the personnel that they have right and I think something you saw this Sunday. And you're going to see going going forward is more UPTEMPO more. You spread like more passing out of spread. But I think you're going to see kind of like the the Patriots offense you saw a few years ago and some of that is just what they're capable of doing at this point. They missed James Devlin at fullback. He was a big part of that. twenty-one personnel run game. They had a replacement for him named Jacob Johnson. He got injured The offensive line line is clearly having problems. Run Blocking Shack Basin is not as good as in years past There's no David Andrews at center because of the medical problems that he had. He's out for the years of center so they're not getting the run blocking that they've gotten in years past so there's no question that they can't even the the running was a little bit overstated last here. Like a lot of that. Running near the end of last year was in the second half of wins like they still were a pass heavy team in the first half of games but yeah I think they need to go more. The running is just not working this year because the blocking is just not there. I don't think you can blame Sony. Michelle for it. I think it's about the blocking you know. It's funny because as you remember people again. That was the argument during the super. Bowl run oh this run team. But ultimately they want on the Super Bowl bypassing to Rob Gronkowski and I think his absence on the hostage I think his absence just loom so large urge but so much more over this team than I would have predicted. Well Boston radio moves large over Boston. Radio 'cause I can tell you that. The last last couple of days there was a lot of discussion of Gronk the GRONK announcement that was kind of Ryan boarding and would be announcing that he was coming back which of course no. He's not coming back he's just doing like a boat tour or something by Yeah no I mean all the numbers show that Brady's numbers were always lower without Gronkowski. There's no question that they missed Gronkowski on cousy he was never adequately replaced. I mean bed Watson. Is it useful. Second tight end at his age but he's not a starter they thought they kinda had something with not Lacoste. I don't UAE clearly. It's something they saw on film because he'd never had a lot of production in real life and he's been injured to really do much anyway so the tight end position position is like the total afterthought. I'm surprised that there isn't more Twenty personnel what. They Call Pony personnel with two halfbacks in the backfield old. Were passing to both James and either birkhead or Michelle. I expected to see more of that. This year And there hasn't been as much as out as I as I thought they were GONNA use. Well we know why they're high unmet lukasz. "There's a lot of talent there and that's even without you. You know they have another injury. Jefferson is your take on young injured. And that's another good player. They don't even have access right now. All right well. Let's move from a elite defense bench to a defense was looking like the worst in the league but suddenly turned it around my second statement. Is this the the Falcons defense is fixed real or not. I would say not because I tend to not believe two week trends until they show up for more than two weeks. I mean yes. There is an explanation that has been provided for why the top defense has improved. Which shows that Dan? Quinn is taking less ownership of it and Raheem Morris taking more ownership of in But after two weeks. I don't know if that's really a real thing or if that's just an explanation. We're using the fact that they randomly had two good weeks. And the you know the really shocking one is not. Kyle the really shocking one is drew. brees breeze yeah import against them but I would wanNA see more than two weeks before I believe the Atlanta defense was fixed also the Atlanta defense does does this every single year. It's kind of crazy. How consistent they are at being bad in the first half of the season and kind of putting it together in the second half the season and then you go? Oh my God. There's so much young talent on the Atlanta defense boy next year they're going to be really good and then the next year they disappoint you until they suddenly turn it around. Autumn played better in the second half of the season. This is like an annual thing with them. It's so strange right at the beginning of this you're too. They mean of injuries. They finally everybody was healthy. It's Dan Quinn. We think of him as defensive. Coach things are trending upwards but then they came out and they were awful awful at the beginning of the season so before four week. Ten the Falcons had seven sacks as a team over the last two weeks against drew brees in Cologne. They've had eleven okay Which yes certainly does not feel sustainable? But what's so strange errand about watching this team. They're not doing anything different. And to my eye schematically or anything crazy like. They're just playing better. I don't know I it was funny. I was watching the Panther's game. And what's his Ricardo Allen Desmond. They were just making like insane place. You could say. Well it's Alan. And yes he turns ends up all over a lot but just seemed to be executing better. I mean even vic beasley long dormant left for dead Vic Beasley looked really good. And I don't I don't really have an explanation for it other than that. You're just playing better. They got Desmond Crew Font back for the Carolina game. But that's not really an explanation for anything because he wasn't there for the New Orleans game and when he was there earlier in the season it wasn't exactly helping so I don't feel like getting desperate. True Fund is any kind of explanation explanation so I just feel I feel like the most likely explanation. Is that split happened. And they're just take just got on a nice little two-game Game Run and we can't expect this to continue for the rest of the season but they will. My guess is they will be better for the rest of the season than they were for the first half. Yeah they're not gonNA BE EVATT bad. I think that's fair. I think because these aren't untalented football players. Right you've got high. Draft picks like tackle McKinley and Beasley. Who We've been again good over the last couple of games? And then we've seen to play in only level in the past we've seen members Super Bowl Era Ricardo Allen like these are not bad players. I think you're right. It's kind of a situation. I guess if extremes well over the last few years the Atlanta Falcons defense has simply been less than some of its parts parts. We know how talented the players are in it and yet in the long term. It's just never been very good and it's always been very damning because is their head. Coach is supposed to be defensive girl. Yeah well another coach third statement and this is. I'm really excited about about this. I was watching this team as I was sort of preparing to talk about him. And I'm kind of pumped and the statement is this we were wrong about cliff Kingsbury and give you take that a lot of different ways Yeah I don't I don't know how you know what we thought what about cliff Kingsbury but one of the things we thought about cliff Kingsbury was cliff. Kingsbury offense is not going to work in the NFL. Then wow we were wrong about quick Kingsbury. I mean I can't tell you at this point about cliff kings berries ability to command the locker room motivate players in the long term when the team when the team reaches that winning record. Point where you need to motivate the players and his in game decision making on fourth downs especially early early in the season really left something to be desired but this offense is top ten right now and last year it was one of the worst offenses we had ever measured. And that's incredible and it's doing that with a rookie quarterback and with without a great receiving core I mean Christian Kirksey Nice player and Larry Fitzgerald as a hall of Famer in his last days. But it's kind of remarkable. Arizona has a top ten offense with the talent. That's there right now yes excursion Kurkcu. They moved back outside. I think what's been so impressive to me about the play calling in all we'll get to how he's been a head head coach because I think you're absolutely right to point out the situational stuff but the play calling. I think what what I found so interesting. And if you're a cardinal's fan exciting is how how much it's evolved over the course of the season right like he came in using approximately four hundred percent more for five wide receiver sets in the rest of the League didn't really have the talent or lines talent wide receiver talent rather to support that but you've seen him evolve as the year's gone by. I think what's been so shocking about this. Offense is for a scheme that for a coach who is supposed to come in and run air raid aid and just wreck the NFL in the air. He's actually wrecked the NFL on the ground right the Arizona run game has been spectacular. You've seen him using that those personnel groupings just spread out defenses and then exploit that by running the ball combined with obviously the threat of various raise legs using the math in their favor and then recently Aaron actually he's been changing his personnel groupings against Ah Devon Great Against San Francisco in both games and in this last match up over forty percent of plays out of twelve personnel compared to like nothing nothing in the beginning of the year is I think he's recognized the tight ends or more effective so I think he he shows what I want to see in a play caller which is adaptability and he doesn't even have have great tight end Charles way too tight end access to vaccines every like young. Max crosby six six Williams He is absolutely running their number two in our numbers in run offense behind only Baltimore. And it's been wow tremendously impressive. And Yeah it's he doesn't a lot through scheme and a lot through Kyla Murray's ability. There's no question that having a mobile quarterback act like Murray or like Lamar Jackson creates space for your running back by holding defenders. Like if you look at teams in the past that have gone from a mobile quarterback to non-mobile quarterback like overall the runners lose yards per carry. When you go back to the non mobile quarterback because the mobile quarterback creates that need for the defense to constantly be preparing for the idea that the quarterback might run and that opens holes for between that and the scheme spreading things out that opens holes for the Arizona? SONAL running game. I think by the way I al- whenever someone mentioned I always go back to oh did marshawn lynch suddenly become good in Seattle I think it might have something to do with Russell. Wilson joined the offense but yeah you're right I think. Uh Sorry I was GonNa say I will compare it to the greatest year over year improvement in offensive. Devi away that we've ever measured. which is the two thousand and Eleven Carolina Panthers in Cam Newton's rookie? That wasn't really. They went from Jimmy cloth and offense to the Cam Newton offense and suddenly they were like the best running team in the League Because Newton wouldn't open space up for Jon Stewart de Ngelo Williams and it transformed their whole offense and suddenly they had an offense that was like a top five offense in the League after being one of the worst in the league the year before. I've never heard anyone called Jonathan Stewart. John Stewart but yeah I this makes me think by the way when we talk about mobile quarterbacks it really needs to be more factored into the discussion of their production impact on an offense which is how much they affects the run game but to go back to the statement about Kingsbury and yes so I think I we were wrong. He has thrived as a play caller. He has thrived less as a head coach. He's made situational mistakes clock management decision making at the goal line at times. But I think if I'm Arizona Fan like he can figure that stuff out or you could hire someone to help him with it quite frankly I think otherwise though just yes. You have to be thrilled by the combination of him and Tyler. I think if you're an Arizona fan you have to be looking up. There's a lot of re-confirm optimism with the Arizona. Cardinals going forward so the next statement kind of is a into that earlier and I think you will be especially knowledgeable about given your fan allegiances. I think the Patriots offense is broken real or not. Well it's real that it's broken but I believe that the first version of this that you texted me as what you are. An asked me was the patriots. Offense sucks and fat hat I would say is not true. It's definitely not up to its usual level but I am a great believer that there are things that are average not everything has to either be great or it sucks and what the Patriots have on offense. This year is a little bit above average. And it's broken because because that's not what we're used to the Patriots offense. The Patriots offense has been in the top ten. In fact I believe it's been in the top seven in offensive. FDA every year since two thousand four and that includes the Matt Castle Near and right now it's twelve so this is their worst offenses like two thousand three. So we're not used to this at all and I think there's no question some of it is the receivers and may I add I there. Something must have happened with Josh Gordon behind the scenes because from a football perspective. I do not understand the decision to cut Josh Josh Gordon and Brady I think it's a combination of the offensive line has had trouble. They are getting Isaiah win back this week but we don't have we. You seem like two or three games by Zia win. He didn't play as a rookie. We don't know what to expect from him The receivers are having problems. And Brady's just not as good as he was. I know that you know lightning. Thinks Shell strike me down if I should say. But we expect old quarterbacks to fall off a cliff because so many of them have like Peyton manning and Brett barbs suddenly fallen off a cliff. And it hasn't happened with Tom Brady. He has declined slowly to the point where he's still above average but he's naught. Tom Brady like we. I think. That's all right. I think what's.

"The only NFL podcast we're one of the hosts thinks the MVP award is what you get when you're house trained MVP. I think that one for in any case we are now somehow how looking down the barrel of week twelve and I could not ask for a better guest to join the show a first timer. He's the head of football outsiders. The A man who created devi away an analyst at ESPN. If you've ever heard him on the Lebatardshow you might be familiar with his theme song. Shots shots shots shots. Let's welcome to the show. Aaron shots a thank you for having me on. It is an honor to finally beyond the show with Lenny very excited. I'm Aaron. I have to start by discussing. I do own Jersey that says dvd on it it was given to me by the folks at Nemo's and Seattle and before I joined. ESPN was even a sportswriter. I was very well versed in the devi away. Bible because I'm a seahawks expand and I'm sure you know see fans reluctance statistic because uh the seahawks were I wanna say back to back to back to back de Vito a chance house is that right yes indeed even though they only one one actual super bowl they were number one in our ratings for four straight years from two thousand twelve to two thousand fifteen. I always assume with this task unlike my other. ESPN daily. I can just say things like DNA and knock explain explain it anyways and it stands for defense adjusted value over average basically just a way of looking at teams in evaluating their actual efficiency on a plate obey basis given both the opponents own ins- and situation is that a good short people always ask me. What is it and I've tried to come up with the shortest possible explanation and I feel like I've got it down Pat? That's pretty much it it it. It looks at team. Success based on situation and opponent compared to zero compared to average That's good. That's better actually. I don't know if you've ever noticed I did at one point. I think again this was before I join. ESPN may Microsoft. Paint image of the seahawks raising the banners over centurylink similar to the colts famous. AFC champion banner and re purposed. Yeah it's been re purpose a little bit. It's kind of gone beyond me and I can't really do that kind of thing anymore. But in any case we are not talking about about the Seattle seahawks today. Oh The quarterback Mike come come on. That's a good kid playoff team up. Okay yeah well actually. We're recording this Tuesday Tuesday to the latest dealer rankings have not yet dropped but I sense your privy to them so you might get a little inside information but article who is written in. I'm probably putting it up right after we're done with the podcast so see you you now. You know who's leading the League right now. There are rating. The new ratings are up on the site on the stats pages ages. It's just that the article that explains that has gone up yet so this week we do have a Sunday game between two teams that I imagine they're pretty high indeed view a the niners and the packers probably the best game before Monday night football between the rams and the Ravens but instead of previewing games Aaron I wanted to ask ask a series of really make a series of statements and ask you. Is this real you you being the analytically inclined voice of reason. I want you to weigh in and then we can discuss whether these things are real and I'm going to start with the Baltimore. Ravens are the best team in the. NFL Go is this real. I think it's pretty real There's a good argument for the New England Patriots. Being the best team. And there's a good argument for the Baltimore Ravens being the best team but it is one of those two teams. The Patriots are actually higher. Hire our numbers for the whole season. But if you look just since week seven Baltimore is the number one offense in the last five weeks and a and they're the number one defense in the last five weeks since they picked up. Marcus Peters Secondary Yeah. I tweeted about that. I I pointed out that since week six right so they picked him up before the Seattle game they ranked number one in the league in pressure percentage in a number of statistics mystics or either first or second. I didn't mean to impute that it was all because of the Marcus Peters Trade. That was just the timing but like a lot of things have happened since then and I think people underestimated how racked by injuries Boston early in the season absolutely right then they got Jimmy Smith back and actually though with the pressure percentage obviously that benefits from the coverage Aaron but they actually were ranking ranking pretty high in our pass rush win rate before then they just weren't getting home Yup Yup while they're getting home now and I think the Debate between Baltimore new. England is a debate between two sort of analytical ideas on New England's side. You have the idea that you should should look at the long-term rather than short-term like most analytic studies show that while we talk about teams that are red hot and Baltimore's super ridiculously red hot over the last five weeks. You get better information if you look at the whole season then just at the last five weeks and if you look at the whole season New England's been a little better on the other hand in Baltimore's corner the idea that offense is more projectable and more consistent than defense especially if that defense is heavily dependent on turnovers and the Patriots are so much better on defense than on offense this year and it's heavily dependent on turnovers that there's just a strong chance of that's GonNa regress a little bit so if you you know forced me to choose New England or Baltimore on a neutral field right now. Even though our numbers have New England Higher I would probably Pick Baltimore. Also Baltimore beat them also on a neutral field. That was built by three point. It was by a lot of points. We're point about the predictive nature of offense for versus defense is interesting to me. Because I've always I've known for reading you guys. That great defenses are more likely to regress year to year but are you saying also wanted just a game to game. Basis offense is more consistent. Yeah I mean I should give some credit to some of the analytics twitter witter people like. Pf Mu who've done this work and looked at it but we went back and looked at as well and even in season defense is not as consistent as offense and we're going to have to figure out what that means in the future as far as like making projections and doing playoff odds and things if defense is not as predictive as offense than it's more important to be good at offense than it is to be good at defense and what's interesting about that. This year is that the two teams in the League with the best records are the two teams that have just superlative on defense so far like like all time great patriots the Patriots or the fifth. Best Defense that we've ever tracked through ten games going all the way back to nineteen eighty five. It's like ridiculous But the question is can you. Can you trust that as much as you can trust Dallas and Kansas City in Baltimore and Seattle or good. Get on offense. I noticed you didn't say San Francisco which I think other people think are I think of having the other great defense though I said the two teams with the best record. That's doing on San Francisco's the two nine thousand one teams. San Francisco is no longer in our top ten of all time. But they're still in in our top twenty. Well let me ask you this. So they were debating New England Baltimore for best team in the NFL. Why do you think San Francisco's not in that conversation? Well after the last couple of games their offense doesn't come out as good as New England's there defensively come out as good as New England's overall they don't come out as good as Baltimore. Baltimore is so well rounded ended at this point the top ten in all three phases of the game so even though San Francisco those tight games they've played against Arizona. You know even though they they pulled out wins in both both of them. The data from those games doesn't make them look as good if they looked earlier in the season. Baltimore we know their offense is above. Saw Right Right. They lead the league in yards per dry points per drive. Please drive remove everything but I want to talk a little bit more about this defeat because we're sort of we're choosing them predicated beyond that. They're the most balanced team in the NFL. And by the way we're going to talk about the New England offense later because there are some issues there but Baltimore looks like the most balanced team. But I WANNA like looking at this Defense Erin. So the concern coming into the season about Baltimore's defense. They had lost so much. Pass rush production right. With Terrell suggs going Arizona's area Smith going to Green Bay. They lost. Cj Moseley they still had Matthew Judaism but they didn't make any big signings up front aren't they did invest heavily in their secondary signing or Thomas in which by the way I think when we talked about that on this podcast about that that study about how coverage is more important than pass rush. I looked at Baltimore's potentially being a bit of a case study now over the last few weeks they've been able to gin up a pretty substantial pass rush a lot through blitzing they blitz more than any other team the league team in the League. Okay good big you so so let me ask you. This can a defense. That's operating this way with not a ton of talent up front but a very aggressive scheme and then a very stocked secondary secondary. Do you think that there's they're more likely to be consistent than a team with explosive. Pass rush it's a tough question Estrin. I think if you see here's the thing That coverage research seems to show that coverage is more important than pass rush but our numbers number show the pass rush is more consistent than coverage like coverage stats from year to year are less consistent than looking at individual players pass rush stats stats from year to year like team pass rush stats like sack. Rates are pretty inconsistent but pressure rates are more consistent and looking at like player pressure rates. Those seem to be more consistent than things like success rate in coverage or yards path allowed and coverage so it's interesting coverage might be more important but less consistent so it's Martino like which is better to have in belong run I do know that the Baltimore Ravens Defense has been a little weak against the run this year. But but I don't think it matters because unless you're like really super like one of the two or three worst defenses in the league against the run you might as well just invite people to run against you all day because because we're brought is not as efficient as the path so it doesn't matter that you're not that good against the thing with Kansas City last year right Well well it's like you know. First of all teams are often passing situation or they were in passing situations against them all but or the rams honestly to that and some of the teams that made it even. The playoffs struggled greatly against the run but ultimately it didn't really make that big of a difference right and both Kansas City in Baltimore. Have that this year Baltimore or is third in our ratings against the past twenty fifth against them one and Kansas City a similar. They're actually fourth against the past. which sounds like kind of shot their defense but part of it? They've played a really hard schedule of opposing. Offense yourself you adjust for that. They come forth against the past thirty first against the AW. I think you saw against the chargers on Monday night to. There's a lot of talent against the past and I think Frank Clark Vitamin Vitamin suffering. He was suffering from injuries. Something about pinched nerve right at the beginning season and he's kind of game with strong. Yeah he was all over the field but I mean the brave and secondary is ridiculous again. We underestimate the injuries. The beginning the year with losing Tian Young and Jimmy Smith losing. Tony Jefferson but I think now after the Pierre's trade to bring it full circle kind of been able to play. Everyone wear their support. Martindale Zeman moving guys to where they're supposed to be you. See Earl Thomas Thomas playing a little bit. Closer to the Line Brandon car has been moved to safety and then Marlon Humphrey they can use the Sada and it's just really I probably the best secondary in the NFL. Yeah they're playing really well. The secretary is playing well The Baltimore Defense Yeah..

"Or in Baltimore. We need to repent when the suffering of others becomes their problem their fault and has nothing to do with me. Well, he did smoke like a fiend. What can you do? They all stuff themselves with fried food. Why did he go home with that stranger? Anyway. No one told them to come here. We need to repent of taking our own survival as a sign of favor, or at least the merited fruit of an ordered life. As Jonathan swift said, it is remarkable with what Christian fortitude and resignation. We can bear the sufferings of others. Catholics take this life. Seriously. We do not believe in reincarnation. This is no drill. No trial run. We are related to accountable for one another how we treat one another now that compassion we show. Now, the person's we become here are all that we bring with us beyond the grave. Facing death. Three orders our priorities and teaches us wisdom. Love truth Justice, human rights, always involve always cost something personal how much time I still spend worrying over what doesn't matter and licking wounds that would heal if only I'd stop picking at them. We all need discretion to live every day. We have and when the time comes to die with dignity. We are alive with the infinite eternal love of God, only if we are not afraid to spend ourselves not afraid to die in order to a hand on life to others. One of the joys of growing older is discovering. How precious life is how important it is to put time into relationships. We care about how important it is to nurture and care for people in their joys and sufferings in their living and in their dying which brings us to the parable of the Gardiner. Yes, he will come to judge the living in the dead. Yes. He will look for fruit from each of us. Yes. Every one of us could be cut down as useless, baron ranches. But this fearsome truth exists within the compassion of God revealed in Jesus the Gardiner through whom all things were made the soon risen one who has shared our sorrows and borne our grief. He has never given. Up on us never despaired of any of us. He's still lovingly prunes us hoping that we will bear fruit. That will last, sir. Leave it another year while I ho- it and minority then perhaps hit full bear fruit. He wants you. And I should be with him. To be more intensely. His. I believe in God, the father almighty, creator of heaven and earth Jesus Christ his only son our Lord was conceived by the Holy Spirit or another Virgin Mary suffered under punches pilot was crucified died and was very he descended into hell on the third day heroes again from the dead he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God, the father almighty from there. He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit. The holy Catholic church. The communion of saints the forgiveness of sins the resurrection of the body and life everlasting..
