In fact, it's vital that you do that sooner than later because it's my opinion or hard is dying. Okay. So that's what I should do. And then I think Lianne call me back after it's done. Okay. I think you'll see that. That was a that was a sound investment. Cheaper than buying a new MAC. Okay. Apple told me I called up the other day. And they told me the next update my laptop shut down completely. Why would they say something like that? That's what what what no apple doesn't make laptop stop working. Okay. They said the next time. We update your computer. It's gonna stop entirely. Yeah. Where did they get that person? I never heard of such a thing. Can you imagine the lawsuits? People. Lots of people have ten year old computers all of a sudden they get an update from apple and it stops working. No. No, you were talking to Apple computer. Apple apple Inc. Apple in Cupertino. And they said that. Nitwits. Nitwits. They're wrong. Okay. With story about it. You're going to be very happy with that. Computer? Okay. Thank you for the call and combing back when when you get if you have any problems, but I feel fairly confident that you you got some pretty isn't this terrible. The tech support that's out there. Terrible. Poise it terrible. And that's from apple. Tell my wrong has anybody ever heard of I have a ten year old MAC, and I updated it and an apple made it stop work. What maybe he misunderstood? There's no way. Can you imagine what the the hue and cry if Microsoft or apple down you download an update that said, oh your computers too old? We're deactivating it. What morons? Morons. If they really said that there's just no excuse. Got to be. She must have misunderstood. Maybe they were saying you're thirty to bid applications won't work anymore, which is true. But her computers not eligible for the next update. Whatever comes after Mojave. It's not eligible for it. So in under no circumstances would update intentionally stop a computer from working. That's nuts. I think that she she must have misunderstood. Maybe they were saying, you know, your hard drives about to die because it is anytime with a computer it's gonna take more than an hour to start a program that doesn't mean you're computers too old slow that means you're hard drives dying. "So that's the market. I don't have to worry about I figure if let's say, you know, you know, I wanna live up in up north, and I co ops county I go up somewhere and cost county and there's like a newspaper radio station. I'll say look, and I wanna I wanna work here. I plan on settling here. They've a young person with a the resume, but I have not bragging but come on. I want a full time position. I imagine it would be some. It would it would go in my I would have at least something in my favorite, right? There was a position available. You would be qualified for it. But that's the big. If is if there's a position available if somebody leaves they might just decide to not have that position anymore and try to consolidate the staff and say, oh, well here are existing writers. You're just gonna have extra work to do now. Well for always be slots, right? I always going to be slots are always going to need on air talent to Brazil is going to be need to have someone. There's plenty of radio stations. That are local. I'm putting quotes around that. The don't have any local talent whatsoever. They have program director who does every single task. He does all the production work. He does the programming of the station, but he's not even on the air. It's just wall to wall syndicated programming. Now, I don't think that's a successful way to run a radio station. I think those stations generally will go under because I think you have to have some local content in order to have people care about what it is that you're offering. But that's another story. I mean, I'm not trying to imply that it's going to be easy or it's going to be a cakewalk. I'm just saying that. I do have some hope for anyone who's listened by show. You know, that's something. I don't see too often that I hope for anything. Nice to hear that. So here's the story from Bloomberg when apple Inc introduced the ipad, eight years ago media executives rejoiced at the time, the head of a German publisher, Axel Springer said about the tablet in two thousand ten quote, sit down once a day and pray to thank Steve Jobs that he is saving the publishing industry, but the idea of paging through a magazine on an ipad never really caught on newspapers and magazines have continued to struggle. "I think they can clearly see the only being on one small speakers limiting factor to people play music, and you you have a lot of people with the momentum have iphones, and then he probably even have max. But what they have. They have echoes in the house just 'cause a national in an instant base. I don't think it's like. Sacrilegious or Streep have done this. Do hope the hardware team of apple Inc. Can catch up in in actually, offering a range more than just the one three hundred fifty dollars bega? Yeah. And and do like the nine one nine nine competition because then the mawkish stuff, it would be more interesting just to actually all diorite calories of what you can buy in on the apple world versus everything else. But that was ultimately ends Larry to the we want more apple music subscriptions, devise, a debate, polite and. Let them listen to music on the devices that they have. Yeah. This there will be some differences too. Like, you cannot do apple podcast through Alexa, on echo speakers. But you can do that home pot Siri. Let's like directly on the home pod. And then you won't be able to do things like airplay to where you send audio from your iphone or Pat or MAC to multiple targets airplay two speakers. Whether it's a home pied or center speaker or the Lieber tone that I reviewed a few weeks ago, like all those things can work talking through airplay to you know, you won't have that stuff. But I think you'll have the same benefits that you have now with music services and eco, which is you can set up groups, it's way less flexible and way, more like manual setup required. But I just have a single group of among ECHO's speakers, which is everywhere, which is every speaker in the house, and I can say play music everywhere, and it'll play on all the echoes. You could do combination. Like like, west wing, right ring, the home ever. But so that part like it won't be nearly as flexible as using Siri and airplay too with home.

"I received three robo calls from apple Inc. Yeah. No. Those are not apple right? I understand that Amelie. Yeah. And in general, we don't answer most phone calls that don't identify the number. You know, somebody. We know right. The phone. She came in told me it was from apple Inc and laughed good which meant she hung up. Good. And then as I was sitting here to more of the same. Yeah. Came in. I got one day. I got a dozen of those one right after the 'nother some of them from different addresses, which was even weirder. They're all fake first of all if apple and they claim that you're I cloud has been breached, right? Hey, if that were the case apple would not use a robo call. Right. So and also if you listen carefully to these robo calls most of them. Our unground manacle. They're just not they don't space the sniff test. You're going to start getting them. I did just the other day from the IRS is well, these are hackers. These native not even hackers scammers who are trying to scam. You and do not call them back just delete the call. I wish we could get rid of these. But you know, people are these people are offering on the edge of league. They're not even on the edge. They are over the edge of illegally. They don't care about the do not call registry. They're out of the country. It's just bogus. And it's really annoying in the sad thing is you're smart. And I'm glad you and your wife laughed. I have to think that some people don't they call back. They give them their apple I cloud credentials. Maybe they even give them some money. They fall for it. That makes me sad. Well, my concern is that you said a number of times that these are random calls. Yeah. Yeah. Well, this case calling right? After another no, randomness, not necessarily. You know, if I gave you a a random number and you called at twenty times the same day that would still be a random number. Maybe these guys this partly this points to how cheap it is for them to do this cost them almost nothing. That's why spam proliferated in Email for less than a cent. You know message. You could send up millions of messages for nothing. And even if only one person bites it was worth it. Same thing with these. They know most people are going to be smart enough to ignore it. But enough of them are going to respond that it's going to be make it worthwhile. And this is actually a new ploy that I experienced exactly the same thing I ever experienced where they called multiple times. And I guess that's to make you feel like it's more urgent right? Well, my concern was that perhaps I'd done something triggered this. And. Yeah. I was concerned to you know, what I don't blame. You. I was a little concerned too. I even logged into my eye cloud, even though they say specifically, which is another tell oh, whatever you do. Don't log into your apple account. I log in my cloud just to see if anything was going on because I figured if Apple's going to you know, if that's going to be if that were real you'd also get an Email from apple, and it's highly unlikely that the bad guy who has your phone number at also have your Email. Right. So you didn't get an Email. So we know that that's the case. All right. I'm so well, and I do appreciate your calling because that that tells other people who are listening, you know, not to pay any attention to that. And that's very valuable. I should be saying this all the time these Roebuck, you do not get you will not get robo calls from Microsoft from apple from the IRS from veterans affairs or anybody else. They're not going to robo call you these are scammers..

"Slash twist. Go, check them out and we do appreciate them supporting independent media. Okay, welcome back. Everybody. As I mentioned a couple years ago, I did believe that apple would become the first trillion dollar company that was back in twenty twelve. I wrote that and I wrote that payments would be one of the ways they we get their subscriptions also seems to be helping and they're on the cusp of being a billion dollar company is was it was pretty hard to make that call. I Bank back then it's pretty easy to make the call and the last year or two as they broke five hundred billion dollars market cap. Also. Apple is probably going to flirt with his trillion dollar valuation up and down over the next year or two. Amazon, we'll probably join them there. What does it mean for startups? It means that they're gonna have a ton of money to buy companies, and you will see the Amazons and the apples of the world buying up larger and larger assets. A whole foods get purchased by Amazon for thirteen billion and headphone company up apple for two or three billion. I think that's just the start these companies, even though some of them like to build everything at home are going to have so many billions and tens of billions and eventually hundreds of billions of dollars in their Bank accounts that they're going to either buy back their stock like Apple's doing, or they're going to buy big companies like Amazon and Facebook have done in the past. Let's talk a little bit about tesla. It's been up and down ride for them in terms of public relations. Obviously, there's a huge short interest and tesla has had a hard time with their production. How when I look at. This kind of battle going back and forth between the shorts and longs and everybody in between people who believe, blindly, tesla, Andy, LAN. And then people who believe the company is just never gonna make it work. What I would encourage people to do is just think about how many cars have they actually produced and how many cars have they produced. Historically every quarter they break a new record in the number of cars being delivered. Now it might not be as fast as people wanted to be, but the product is so good that the people who buy it are obsessed with it and over time. And this is important thing for founders to realize who listen to this program. People are going to criticize you and tell you why it's not gonna work. In some cases, those haters are going to have really good justifications for why they think you're gonna fail. But that doesn't mean that even in the majority case of failure you that you will. The majority case for startups is failure and for an electric car company, ten years ago, it certainly would have been the case the only ship a couple of thousand. And of the roadsters, but then they started shipping tens of thousands of the model s. and then the model acts, and now we're looking at them shipping five thousand cars per week and.

"Cool name okay apple inc changed its apps store rules last week to limit how developers use information about iphone owners friends and other contacts quietly closing a loophole that let app makers store and share data with many people's consent yeah good thing thank you apple for closing a said loophole i think that's kind of the gist of it i'm gonna get this nice lady off the screen i don't know what she's actually talking about and we're gonna go back to here but yeah apparently many developers ask users for access to their phones contacts only use it for marketing or sometimes or sometimes share and sell the information all without permission from the people listed in those digital address books that's the problem is that your phone your address book those people's information other companies running apps are able to take that and sell it whereas that sposed to may be only used for like sharing things or seeing if you have other friends that are online you know how some games you can like import your address book and then see if your friends are online while they might sell that and that's bad i feel like this is a gp our thing or a might be like they may have done this response like i don't that's just me speculating but it seems the timing seems like that might be why well i think because this sounds like something that will be absolutely not allowed by the gdp are yeah or your data is getting used and you have no idea what's going on i just think in this case both companies might be a fault yes so apple's trying to close their end but also problem for after ville would both be in trouble or that love apple for not like securing the data and passing it on and then the app developers for using it without permission so apples from it is taking care of that needs to be taken care of the new apps store review guidelines bar developers sorry the new apps store review guidelines bar developers from making databases of address book information they gather from phone users sharing and selling that database with third parties is now forbidden should have been already but whatever an app can't get users contact list say it's being used for one thing and then use it again for something else unless the developer gets sent again obviously this can still be abused but i think it's a vector for apple to rip you off the app store so if they catch you doing this you'll get you'll get tossed anyone yeah anyone caught breaking the rules maybe band this sounds like an extremely easy rule to break and probably not that hard of a rule to get away with breaking but at least they have it written out now that they can give you the boot if you do break when users like like honestly yeah no it does this whole thing reminds laughable but is of an android p i think they took away the ability for apps use your camera microphone the backgrounds which was cool bell was like what were they doing before like all the time before android the yeah when users install apps and then consent developers get dozens of potential data points on people's friends contact listen to contain phone numbers email addresses profile photos and tons of other stuff as you probably know so that information is probably quite valuable so now what they'll probably have to do is sell it to themselves as in other company and then anonymous the data and sell it that way so little add one more loop that they have to jump through apple to not be able to catch them so all right at least apple is cleaned their hands but this will still remain an issue doesn't gays anyone was wondering moving i just sort of ssume that everyone on the internet just knows everything about me yeah easier way to live yeah yeah another rumor because this show again is only about things that are confirmed one hundred percent true rumor amdi radio on our six eighty the radio are six eighty will reportedly be powered by the navy architecture sure and will feature eight gigabytes of gdr six.

"So tim cook the ceo of apple inc as it continues to dip his toe into the political waters says that natalie child separations are inhumane it's not who we are see here's the problem if that's what was happening it absolutely is inhumane and this is this is this is the the trickery if you will that the left routinely employs child separation is not a policy it's not a desire it isn't certainly has nothing to do with the trump administration in any way shape manner reform every law that's being enforced was on the books and existing long before trump even decided to run for office before he even commenced his campaign but if in the middle of hysterics respected people come out and say separating families on our border why that's just inhumane and what other conclusion is there it is inhumane if that's indeed what's happening but it isn't there is no policy stating the united states going forward will separate families for the express purpose of making it difficult to immigrate to our there's no such policy there's no such desire there is no such wish on the part of anybody but if if that's all you know and you hear somebody that you respect the onion you mean what are you going to conclude you're going to conclude it is just like vernon our caller from yesterday who was caught up in the emotion of it and probably could not believe that his country would actually engage in such things and even though he knew that his country could never do something like that he bought it the former director of the c i a guy named michael hit who i have met and talked to is running around comparing this to nazi germany and so far the drive by media has made i think in excess of twenty five such references in various news stories that this is concomitant with the holocaust and people for some reason emotionally accepted as true so what must be your foundational existence if you can be made to believe that your country is doing this well how about thirty to forty years of the media and the democrats describing republicans as racist sexist bigots homophobes heartless meanspirited extremists and during all that time no republican ever stands up and opposes it instead what the republicans have done is tried to prove that it isn't true by saying they agree with democrats on this our on that and it just it that hasn't worked never does buy off the enemy you can't appease the enemy you have to defeat him nobody on our side before donald trump came along even thought about defeating these people were too afraid of them and then there's the well we can't beat the media russia i mean they're everywhere yeah i love to bring these people up on rico charges by the way but that'll never happen either but the point is there is no separation of families hacking not as a policy the law of the.

"That could still mean as many as seventy million people who could be affected by any new vulnerabilities that could spring up as another infosec type explained there is a wide range of things from new jailbreaks to the possibility of circumventing apples process based on having access to the source code while the leak was serious enough for apple to have the code removed the company played down its importance quoting apple statement on the issue old source code from three years ago appears to have been leaked but by design the security of our products doesn't depend on the secrecy of our source code there are many layers of hardware and software protections built into our products and we always encourage customers to update to the newest software releases to benefit from the latest protections more news in the moment but first a word from square space your place on line does your website feel like a fixer upper picks it up with square space from small blogs too big stores seemingly countless people trust square space to be there online face to the world if you don't know how to build a site you don't have to the dragon drop editing tools and modular functions and features make building a site as easy as building with blocks but much more useful if you don't know how to design the site you don't have to the beautiful templates squares base has are practically ready to go just waiting for you to say what you wanna say of course you can customize the sites adding your heart your preferred fonts and colors the yunus that makes your square space site uniquely yours.

"Ubs says it surveys show the percentage of people looking to by the iphone ten has only dropped from forty three percent to thirty seven percent you'd expect a drop after the holiday canaccord genuity analysts have lowered their second quarter iphone shipment estimates but lowered them to fifty nine point nine million units from sixty six million units austrian component maker a m s a g which makes optical sensors and has apple as its major customer raised its revenue outlook on rising demand for the use of its sensors in iphones so what's going on well last year nikkei reported that apple cut orders by ten percent in q one but i phone shipments ended up growing by four point seven percent for the quarter and apple insider points out that the complexity of apples supply chain makes it very difficult to deduce sales outcomes from changes in supply inventory fact back in 2013 apple insider even quoted this tim cooke said yields might very being the number of parts made so supplier performance can vary the beginning inventory positions can vary i mean there's just an inordinately long list of things that would make any single data point not a great proxy for what's going on so he says even if you see some people cutting orders doesn't mean anything about the number shipping products slowing the ramp from one parts maker let's say like oh we need you to to cut back on on the modem chips can cause cuts in production targets for another parts maker so it's not because apple ordered them to cut back let's just say we're just not getting as much yield and so apple goes to in other parts maker and says you know what we're not gonna have any motives we need you to cut back on the optical sensors in our or whatever these numbers don't make any sense until they all come together at the end and if you can't get all the parts together at one time for a foxconn to put together then you're going to change those parts mixes and none of that can affect sale.

"Also sucking a bit of wind from apple sales as bti g analyst walter pie check baron said the pie man issuing a note late last week rather than looking at supply chains though he was looking at a carrier quoting the report the latest data point as verizon communications fourthquarter aboard on tuesday in which had had the lowest upgrade rate of its phone customers in a decade at seven point two percent by check expects similarly low numbers from the other carriers and with that he lowered his iphone expectations for this quarter from sixty million units already below wall street expectations to fifty three million units way below wall street expectations that could mean revenue guidance as low as 60 billion dollars according to the analyst doesn't sound low until you hear that wall street's expecting guidance of roughly sixty eight billion the saving grace for iphone could be the average polling priceor a s p then again there are so many models now a s p could also be the phones achilles heel in the analysts estimation despite nearterm concern is apparently not worry longterm he's maintained his price target on apple shares of one hundred ninety eight dollars while home pod may prove to be an amazing product for apple it is not starting as a barn burner pre orders began last friday with the first round of deliveries expected to hit people's porches on friday the ninth of february but as of this writing if you order right now you can still get it on friday the ninth of february.

"Is is a hug her an unwelcome hunger at that on that did end and other things i guess her are the reason why he stepping aside for right now but it you know it just goes to show that did i think that we're going to be hearing a lot more about a lot of other people who have been acting inappropriately before the saul goes over is is a big societal change that we're talking about here hopefully any way less let's get into something that's more into our world the only reason i even mentioned this is because of lassiter and the obvious connection with steve jobs and everything and disney okay we've heard for a long time that apple is working on technology for selfdriving vehicles for while we thought the to build a car and evidently they're not but i'm just wondering what's going to happen here because now we have a story from reuters and our region the paragraph here research by apple inc computer scientists on how selfdriving cars can better spot cyclists and pedestrians while using fewer sensors has been posted online in what appears to be the company's first publicly disclosed paper on autonomous vehicles now we can go into this in a minute but the reaction i'm getting here is apple may in the end develop this technology and let everyone have it period is entirely possible just to backtrack for a moment you know for a long time in tech circles apple is rumored to be as as you pointed out gene building a car it was supposedly project tighten and you know apple is.
