When i first moved to los angeles he took me to get ice cream. Just me and him and it was very sweet and it was a great way to welcome you to a new city and three. Because it's christmas time everybody right so who better to talk christmas movies and christmas stuff than the man who literally wrote the book on christmas movies. Although we asked you know we we asked for a couple of options of holiday movies and look. I'll take a little bit of the The blame on myself. Six weeks like a dudley moore movie from the eighties. Let's do that. that'll be dumb thinking. That'll be like a dumb like christmas. Comedy not doing any research into it and then to find that this holiday movie the so-called holiday movies only a holiday movie in that the nutcracker ballet figures into the plot at the very end otherwise. It's a tear jerker about a young girl. Dying of leukemia so also pitted been swan lake. It could be a summer movie. No one would again and to that end also yes content ordering this movie that we're doing is all about a child dying of a disease so if something says it is. It is bitterly window-dressing i would say about. It is all about midlife romance between a woman with very ill considered perm and a very short man. Who is an american politician. Despite obviously being english this. I mean that is all well and good. That is all well good at. It may be accurate but if you are sensitive to the idea of a child time disease it does not matter degree to which is about that. You're right okay. We will take that about seriously as very something something to make. Clear that if we if we make fun of it is only because a maudlin melodrama and because the idea of a child with a terminal disease is hilarious. So only in the context. So why did you pick this movie or you. Huge dudley tyler moore fan. That's a couple right. It should be they. They would have been portmanteau if anyone had seen this movie. You know there are some christmas bombs out there. Certainly and i didn't like or be a non christmas bombing in cambodia. I believe it was cambodia The way to bring the room. It's the most obvious. Christmas bomb dropping bombs on well. Yeah i think henry kissinger may have also been responsible for the nutcracker. Three d Where they put onto tchaykovsky and work in holocaust metaphors and nathan lane. Get a plays albert einstein. And i'm not gonna. We're not doing that. Not doing that but i i i did toss a couple out and i just thought that six weeks is just i. It's a flop in so many ways because not not just critically and with audiences. But it's one of those movies that derailed people's career dudley moore hot off arthur mirror more hot off ordinary people. Tony bill the director hot off. My bodyguard and this collectively did for their careers. What moment by moment did. For lily tomlin and john travolta so last them to new heights took them into the stratosphere is such a huge bomb despite having at the time big stars and it being clearly you know like a hot would produced picture. I had never heard of it. And and if you go to like imdb to reviews from non-professional reviewers and maybe like five from professional if you type in six weeks and they're like not found a near like i don't know what you're talking about now that one seraing buster keaton. No no no. That's not the alonzo. I wanna ask you about dudley moore. Because here's the here's the thing so since you are. Only moore's authorized biographer detail. I think in terms of just acting. Like dudley moore gives the best straight acting performance in this film. But like let us. Let's stipulate that. I did say straight acting performance as opposed to accommodate performance. I you are about ten years older than i am. Wow you so you lived through more of the doubly more boom than i did to me why he was never understood it was it was magic snapshot of time in which you could make the original arthur. That was all about a total alcoholic and it was still somehow charming asshole. He's an asshole super super movie. Where he's just like a horrible womanizer. Yes and being very mean to his wife. Julie andrews by cheating on her with with bo derek and of course foul play where he plays like a complete sort of racist toys which was really his launching pad in america. You know he had. He had obviously performed with peter cook for years and had done movies like bamboozled but like bananas. I wanna see sorry yes were. Bamboos will be a very interesting movie very interesting choice. Guess could we. Could we make that happen. We play the tv executives character. No no dan. he's playing. Well he's playing. Well let me. We didn't even a bedazzle. The original bedazzled not to be confused with the brilliant remake with With with the brennan fraser but after foul play was like america could not get enough of that short perv and then and then they wanted and then arthur was like oh. I want more of that short drums merv so then that led us to six weeks whereas point that he is running for congress while clearly british and also is the funny politician. Because that you dudley moore can't not be quickey in this also by the way contributed. Let's let's not lose out like he contributed the scored. This oppressively is a terrible score. But it i believe it one golden globe. I was doing some behind the scenes. Like i think it won or was nominated for golden globe. I think dudley moore was nominated for a golden globe and mary. Tyler moore was nominated for a razzie for this so the early eighties. Golden globes is really like the peak period of like. Let me fly to vegas for a weekend. This is right in the just before. The whole p. Is the door thing blew up in your faces but you could really charm wined dine and gift your way into a golden globe. Nomination in that period did nothing. He did mind now. No i think. They you know, you know how it works any views from usually two to four minutes long. But sometimes they can be a little longer Tony when you when you live long enough all kinds of strange things happen. You're very right in saying that the Greek Heroes were the original superheroes in part because of the hopeful nature of jeans Vision, but also because of its message of diversity and inclusion off. Karl Urban and Laz Alonso on season two of the boys and talking with Eric Kripke at the outset of shooting season two. He was very clear about listening to go in here to try and make this bigger than season one. What we want to do is delve deeper. We want to find out more about these characters. We want to make it a more Rich character dead element experienced and I believe that not only has he done that but he did definitely go bigger as well in with it. I'd like to season 2 of the boys is like season one on the the compound it is I mean every week we'd be reading a script and going. Oh my God, I can't believe we're actually doing this and and there are some unless we're backed us up. You know, there was some set pieces that we got home shoot that and that that was just mind-blowing and we shot it old school. For example an episode 3. We're in a speed boat speeding along a lake dead. You know jumping waves that's actually Us in the boat driving and we had a helicopter hovering a hundred feet in the air filming us and and it was like, you know, Old School Big Time movie making and you know, I just all around the bar hours is raised on season 2 and I can't wait for folks to see it's a lot of fun. Yeah. I think that the the both idea was not written until off-seasons until our Hiatus between season one and two and Carl was posting all of his boat fishing in New Zealand. Yeah, that's right. That was the light bulb for the for the boat. So I have a feeling whatever we post during Hiatus could possibly end up Dead in season three. I might post footage of may just driving strictly fast around the racetrack or something and let's just get like a good diabolical cock. It's going I think that's you know, what I think that it was actually Eric Stoltz and mentally Scar the cast Jack Quaid was freaked out by the boat absolutely freaked out and you know with less less less character. Amen. He gets a special scoff during the season and and that really messed with him. "You make the most of the stop you need to make see full terms and conditions at fuelrewards dot com in engines that continuously use Gel power, nitro, plus premium gasoline. All right buster. So after a few years in the minors getting his defense, right Alonzo gets called up to the big leagues. Twenty. Nineteen. When did he realize winded others start to realize that he had a chance to be really really special. I think for the mets organization, they were forced into it. His sense because of the beginning of spring training two, thousand, nineteen is they say he wasn't really on the front burner for the mets, but he just had an incredible spring training. One on impede people Lonzo will come up. Trust what deep to her over the head of It's out of here. Is Oh on the first pitcher season spring training displays the power that met fans have been salivating for. His cousin Derek Morgan who pitch to them in the home run. Derby. told us this amazing story about how people as on opening day in Washington DC? He goes hitless against Max Scherzer and they're out dinner that night and impede asks him hey, how's your batting practice these days in other words how he throwing batting practice and Derek Morgan is like what? What are you talking about? Why? Why do you need to know that? Oh, I think I have a chance to be in the home run Derby. and. Then in early June, his cousin is going to a bachelor. Party and the phone rings and it's calling to tell him Yup. We just got the invite get ready. You're GonNa Pitch them you the home run Derby and Cleveland. The. Home Run Derby. Champion twenty two. That's how much confidence. In himself and you know this is someone who is envisioning himself as a little kid that he was going to play in the major leagues and he was going to be part of the home run. Derby. And then just over two months after he became home run Derby Champ at the end of September Alonzo steps to the plate with a chance to break. Aaron judge is rookie homerun record. Pita Lonzo now he's even with Aaron judge. Pitch. It's at high air right center. Field Hamilton looks back. He's a wall. It's Wrong. Three. Breed along. So stands alone. Major League Baseball's Homerun King. What was all of that like for him? It was classic beadle on. So where you know he hits the home run that breaks Aaron, Judge's record, and as he's rounding the bases, the response from the New York crowds in city fields and the way he responded to them takes his helmet off he raises adds to the airy leans back. A Sigh of relief. At a pump of Fist and celebration as he dips into the mets dugout. Goes to the DUGOUT and he's embracing the moment. He's embracing teammates, and then he goes back out on the field and he starts to week. Slight Polish I did it. That's it. It's like I can't believe it is euphoric. It felt like I was. Rhonda surfboard on Rainbow. Talked to Todd Frazier and talk to Robinson Canal and others and they're like, Yep. That's Pete. He wears every emotion on his sleep at all times and he seems to be one of those people who can appreciate the experiences that he has as he goes through them, which is a pretty rare quality in people. Let's fast forward to the present day twenty twenty now because the polar bears season has kind of been the polar opposite. So to speak of his rookie year in the early going and buster I'm not sure if the former top baseball reporter for the New York Times is aware of this but New York City can be a tough place to fall short of expectations. How do you think Peter Lonzo is going to respond to this slow start. So P reminds me a lot of Paul O'Neil who I covered with the Yankees when I was working at the New York Times and Paula Neo is the person who would break up the water cooler Heathrow his bad. He'd get incredibly frustrated jean-michel the general manager the Yankees acquired him told me you know the one thing I knew was Paul Neal was going to be much harder on himself. Then New York fans would ever be the biggest point of pressure for Paul was internally and I think Pete is very much the same way. So when Pete struggles he tends to. Build up some anxiety and expands the strike zone. In fact, he told me a story from the days of last year when he was chasing down Aaron Judge's record and he was struggling and Jacob degrom walked up to him and said, Hey, you're a little nervous and Pete Alonso responded. Well, why would you ask me that the Graham's response was well, you started swing before the pitchers releasing the ball i. think that's a little bit of what we're seeing Pete early this season with the mets off to a poor start there's a lot more focus on each game and I'm sure he's feeling that anxiety. So Pita Lonzo clearly wants to succeed as badly as anybody that we know of in baseball. But when you talk to people around the League buster and I'm talking about players and coaches and scouts and executives. Now, what did they say when they talk about Pete Lonzo when they scout him today That he is a far more advanced hitter than they thought. That he's has someone who makes adjustments from pitch to pitch. He'll take the ball is a right handed hitter right field at times. He's not simply just the swing as hard as you can slugger who's GONNA strike out two hundred and fifty times. He is surprised people with his defense. He's become very adept at digging balls Outta the dirt he's moving. Well, he definitely opened up a lot is around baseball last year because really in the fall of two thousand, eighteen I think when Brodie van wagon and took over as general manager of the mets. If some other team had called the mets and said, look, we'll give you. A good offer for PD Lonso I think the mets would have been very open minded about things because he wasn't really in their plans for two thousand and one, thousand, nine, hundred. And now here we are and the other huge star in The New York baseball market obviously is Aaron Judge and the Yankees outfielder has been to his own incredibly hot start to the season. But last year, he had some conspicuously complimentary things to say, about Pete, as pete sat on the edge of breaking this rookie homerun record is eventually going to break it I know that for sure and. No better, no individual represent you're not going to mess with the city of New York. What would it mean for baseball buster to have both pita Lonzo and Aaron Judge Be V. Stars Astride the Big Apple at the same time. We'd take us. Back to. The fifties right. When had Willie mays and Mickey Mantle? Duke Snider that sorta rivalry would be pretty cool and I think there's a chance is going to happen not only because the greatness of those teams. But as you know, the mets are in the process of being sold right now you would expect that the next owners whether it's the Kohner with not it's Alex Rodriguez's group. They're going to probably spend a lot more money than the current mets ownership is spent and I, that'll give pete a better chance to be. Surrounded by great players in the way that Aaron Judge's but it'd be great look you know the the mets probably the first big young star that they promoted that everyone remembers was Darrell Strawberry but folks back down.

"That was the moment mets first Baseman Pete Alonzo made baseball history hitting his fifty third home run of the two thousand nineteen season the most ever by rookie. While Peter Lonzo made his rookie season. His past there was anything plot. Today ESPN's Buster Olney joins us with new details about how Lonzo overcame years of bullying to make it in the big leagues. And how the man they call polar bear proved his doubters wrong. By never doubting himself. I'm Pablo Torre it's Friday August seventh. This is ESPN daily. Hey Buster thanks for joining us man I. Know there have been some truly crazy storms this week in the northeast. Thanks for having me I wasn't sure as we get ready for the taping what we're GONNA do no power. I am Buster Olney is in ESPN senior writer and the host of the baseball tonight podcast. That is if he ever gets his power restored, I spent three hours today clearing out brush and trees and chainsaw and doing all that and no one I'm done with you. I'm going to go back out for a couple more hours. So fingers crossed. Chain Song with Buster Olney is the name of an amazing podcast by the way I. Hope You don't let this week go to waste from a content perspective. But speaking of some startling crazy power surges. Brought, you hear buster to talk to you about Pete Alonzo the mets first baseman. Who won rookie of the year last season and set the all time rookie record for home runs and this season so far in the early going, there's been a bit of an outage with him at the plate struggling to get going. On the outside corner strike three call thirteen Alonzo's been struck out today. Buster the man nicknamed polar bear has been kind of ice cold but we are still just thirteen games into this season and I think most people still believe he will still turn it around. And you spent a lot of time with Alonzo this off season for east sixty profile and found out some really surprising details from his journey to the majors. What did you learn? You know what really jumped out at me when I was preparing for the interview I read something that he had done about him speaking at his old middle school. And he spoke to the students repeatedly about, Hey, don't worry about if you feel different and that's one of those things as a writer, you like how what stat about and I gotTa tell you it was like sticking a finger on the ground and having an oil gusher come out. Everyone kind of goes through they're kind of like. Stage in life like awkward stage if you will. I. Mean I was I was bigger. I was picked on for it but I mean. That kind of stuff really stuck with me and it hurt on the inside it was remarkable the depth of the stories and the pain that he felt, and he remembered every bit of the bullying that he got when he was a young kid and so it was just it was amazing. How much hurt he feels how much he sort of hangs on that and how much he he works often how much that motivates So. In talking with Pete Buster. Did he or anyone else who spoke with fury as to why this guy? Who is now? So successful atop the baseball world why he was such a target growing up. Well first off, he's just different. He just moves differently than most baseball players. He's bigger. You know he's not live like Aaron judge he's built like a coke machine. In how sticky is the way that he runs his unusual and as I went back and looked at pictures of him as a kid I mean he was he was a kid and according to his friends Michael pay when they were children growing up, he would hear all the time you know, hey, Fatso Hey, fat boy he was the biggest kid in the room and he was the funniest the kindest and Always goofy. But he was made fun of throughout his childhood for his size. And Michael told me that he really hurt for Pete and he didn't understand it because Pete was such a nice person. But in retrospect when Pete looks back at that time. He feels like the part of the thing was he didn't fight back internalize a lot of things they didn't really. Fightback. Punched or kicked or something like that before. But it didn't hurt like physically hurt like mentally people would say things to him. That were really hurtful peers when he was a little kid and he would just absorbing move on because is such a nice person and it's more of him just simply not understanding why someone would say something like that to him. So Buster pitas dealing with being bullied as a kid what role did baseball play in coping with that It was his outlet baseball was my safe place. Someone can make fun of me in the classroom or Aaron P. Ear or whatever. But no one will make fun of me in between the lines you know as he said, he felt safe on the baseball field and it was a way for him to respond. So if he would hear the taunts from opposing players about his weight, that's when I got my pay back. You're making fun of me like I'll. I'll just head home off you suck on that. That's how I think he. He used baseball easy. He was growing up. He was never going to be one as a little kid to confront anyone who was saying anything and in fact, I thought about this in some ways, Pete would have been like the perfect target for a bully because he's so earnest you can see the emotions on his face and the response and you knew that as a little kid, he wasn't going to be someone who's going to punch back despite the fact he was always the biggest kid in these class photos that he was in. So coming out of high school Pete's attracts attention, but he decides to stay home close to home and attend the University of Florida, and at this point, he is this big aspiring prospect with all of these sensitivities that you mentioned. So what happened when he got to college? I had no idea about any of the story when we sat down he, he brought this up himself. And he talked about how he met his girlfriend Haley Walsh when he was playing the Cape Cod League, and then he returned to Florida for his junior year and Haley was attending school in Michigan State Pizza in Florida it's a long distance relationship and so they talked on the phone a lot and according to Pete. He got a lot of a lot of flack from his teammates slash roommates about that and they were on them all the time and there were instances in which they're sending him porno on social media and it really bothered him and finally he got to a point where he confronted this person who had. sent him this stuff on his phone and he said this needs to stop right now and so here you have big lovable Pete Alonso six, foot, three, two, hundred, forty, five pounds, and according to Pete this is the first time that he really stood up for himself and he yanked his teammate off a scooter like this grabbed grabbed him. You don't ever do that. He said, meet me at the clubhouse and he didn't show up. That's the best part about it. That's when he felt like you know what I stood up for myself and that was so empowering now it didn't end there. You know he told us a story. About Kevin Sullivan. His coach at Florida confronting him in the Dugout my head coach, my back. Either my roommate's Kinda went behind my back and told him that I needed to break up with her, and then he used that against me the game it's like Oh. You're just focused on her. You're not focused about team. You don't care and I told him to go himself in the DUGOUT. And you don't ever say that to a college coach but I did and he said it was important because he felt like look. I didn't understand why this was an issue I cared about this person. And I cared about this relationship and this is someone who is now is fiance and he felt like he needed to take a stand and he kept on using that same word empowering when he talked about standing up for himself..

"Trying to pick something. You're not really sure yet. How the how the youngsters? Going to be for next season, I mean bipolar and garden grandeur very promising huge potential I e, there's a question with is compressed calendar superlicence points, so they need a result, and if you're GONNA wait till the end of the season could be December before you can say oh. Yeah well. Actually we can't have him. All can't have him so. which is too late in the cycle that run a needs to get on, do it? Maybe. It's just a year too early in cycle for this, t needs to be out for twenty one and going into twenty two, having the the experience of them, and if they're. Fantastic if they are brilliant, if they do emerge fantastic talent, they'll be there to pick up the reins when rhinos successful without Fernando. Fully agree with the I. Think the Yep. really good smell straight. He was leading from pollen uncles to win when they actually feet trucks for Caufield and I think he so saint. Being seen is one of the real title. Contenders season Christine. Lagarde is I. personally would write a high than job very very young when he was in at full of three years ago. He's reading radio. But has risen the ranks quickly as entangled loss, potentially with our and I think he was full in in Australia's rights without any testings I really really impressive by just as A. sidelight just to say, think in the cycle and I think that Tagab into into next year. I think could have if they knew they had come for the long term than I think. Baker Sauce I walk. Maybe he can be the Manzar. Help nurture this young Dr, Arnn lead US Open. Said twenty two beyond. But I mean s about himself. He's he's very young. He's. Still of links Mercedes that means that ultimately they they can could put him back back down the line. so I. Think this is a this is better i. mean ultimately I think unless. Does win after this year and then run I've got so find him some wet. Put Him next season. People said they not out. Rentals spilled today. Still get one of their genes on grid twenty-one bombing. It doesn't highly unlikely, but then they can look to. I Guess Post Twenty. All Up. Sorry, thank you. Look at twenty tape inside the okay well, if if all were to go, what's about inside these at the end of next year that they would hopefully by then have an active junior ready to step up and place. All, mean with Ando as well Alstom it and he is very near the end his career and is that he does these days in quits than they get in. They have one in junior products, ready and waiting to step up so yeah. I think it's a little bit too early site, i. Read Scan, also you want you want the best drivers in the car and right now that that was phenomenal so definite line of him and Oaklawn is way stronger than lineup in God. And as John said is why it's timing like ultimately, it wouldn't be until the end of the air that they would have got the soup license points, and therefore could have committed to getting the drive into a seat, and by then the market would have moved on massively, and they could have been left in real trouble. Joseph of course still the fastest professional driver to set a lap. Salmon are simulator in the office I simulator. It's you know it's an xbox with fancy seat, but. He lost four seconds faster around Zeke then hyenas so a considerable amount of time faster than me around Suzuka so Yes, pretty impressive talent for the future, but but maybe not now I i. suppose the finally she. We should address you mentioned. Esteban Conde areas, what are the implications for him of potentially showing average with Financial Alonso for for the next season perhaps. Depending on how things out? I think it's pretty exciting. I think I'll Connie said. When he when he was growing up the Finan by the battles, tweeting Alonso. Schumacher dots here he was watching really looked up to alongside, and it's quite an says law about the age of some of the drivers now economy kind of allow I watched on TV growing up in that cycle. It's not fun, and now they're racing side each other it's it's pretty funny. But Yeah I. think that's GonNa. Be really interesting because I'll. CONHAM ABC's had particularly with them. Peres racing point for example that they didn't. It didn't really go well towards the end of attention grabbing that and I think it's the point of is going to be really really interesting to see how all Connie, maybe doesn't have the best reputation for getting on with. With his teammates and being completely Civil Fernandez, the same can be said I. think that's going to be really interesting dynamic. You KINDA got the the the the old outer drive is right the end of his career versus young upstart, trying to really make a name for himself I. think that's going to be really fascinating to watch, and I think early on Oprah. Be All over civil and. Look up to you I! I bought. She writes the when it gets side on traffic, it end up being a little bit different. It's tricky to measure the vibe at the moment in any garish, isn't it Johnny Kaz your your that, but don't really necessarily seeing these people face to face where often in these these virtual press conferences as well so it's it's tricky when someone just sits down in front of a camera. Fair you. To to to measure the VIBE. It's quite bizarre is. More fun really difficult when drivers go crush on. His they realized a crush onto the show more emotion with their hands, or in their eyes or something, so you can read quite easy when I step half a car or get in a car. But when they a mask on a thing, because everyone feels a bit a little bit uncomfortable and isn't quite used to it. Everyone's got the same expression, so it's really hard to say how people feeling or what they're looking like, or are they saying this seriously or have? I got this with a huge grin on their face which? Is Involved Don Ricardo then. is Greenwich Face. Is Much much harder to read, and also not having that seeing people close up in press conferences to look at body, language and things that these these are the little aspects that make a make a difference. It's not just you know. Some people just be happy to have a look at the. Story, but awfulness body language behind stories, and how these things are said, and they said, and the circumstances of whether said, which is just as important as you now have been experimenting with certain teams backgrounds to try and provoke reaction so I'll be rolling out a few of those in Austria to this weekend to the Magnuson. Did he ask about like what background also? Yeah, he he wanted to know. Why I was in a dungeon, and I had to explain that it was Brian Blessed Prison Planet. Sure, he's a big fan of what. "Doing with your lockdown haircut now banished. Yes, I'm very very happy. I find out my first hacker. I can confirm the fast pace lockdown haircut is just because I thought they were bait the the subject at hand, which is the return of Fernando Alonso to form the world. With a two year deal ran a team. He's dream for on two previous occasions so slightly more successfully. than the other I suppose the first question is how expected was this? How similar beatable pulled out something from his hat, Johnny, or has this been pretty much expected ever since Daniel? Ricardo announced that he was often clarin I think pretty much expected. The second of vacancy appeared there Sunday was top of the list. You've been close to Renos that scene his most successful periods. He's always liked team in stone. Entertainment stains always liked him throw his numerous phases by Cyril today, said I who who made the first move. He picked up the phone I. he said actually it wasn't like that because. even ever since he left running last time, the British weren't burned. Basically, they've kept in contact ever since he said when they came back in two thousand, sixteen, Fernando was scouting around sniffing around, and they were discussing things back then, so it's been an ongoing dialogue service, basically just a continuation of a conversation. There's been running for years i. mean is a surprise and isn't a surprise. Think for a lot of our phone fans. They feel going back to the back to the past back to an ex. Girlfriend type scenario so to speak, but there's also some intrigue about wherever you know. We come back to how? It was before is a Cyril. mentioned merely is a new Fernando. Nando wiser a bit more understanding of worries, atten especially as he motivated for the the. Kind of the fight in the amount of work that's needed ahead. Obviously, there are drivers in the past, informing the warm who've been fast, but shall we say a little bit difficult, certainly hard for teams to manage but Fernando. Alonso in particular has had a history of falling out with his employers, although Johnny points out that Cyril size the. Didn't burn any bridges when when he left ran the last time pretty much. Every other team he's left has involved a certain amount of Malaysian. Look. How how do you see? Fernando coming back Johnny said it supplies surprising, not surprise I think is Israeli one of the few, if the only senior Formula One way because I. think that happen incident Sunday issues in the past that just led to the bridge is being burned in such. A dramatic way they just wasn't possible to get back, we'll see. We thought that much with McLaren in two thousand seven through the spy drama. Unfolding out with Lewis Hamilton, but he was able to return in two thousand fifteen on, and it was. It was a very different team. I think by that point but I think I with Ferrari for example I think the way that sort of twenty eight I think that was when it was never in a place I could go again and for from running same I think especially it seemed like Macedo while they've had such success on a very stable lineup in in recent news with Lewis Hamilton about three bolts. There's not really need for financial loss, not really need the August baggage. The may come with him and I think when he wants wife Math in two thousand eighteen. Clarinet He. He said he wanted to like flow change outside of the ball I think maybe. We'll without so mellow him in changed bet, but even with two I mean. I came to an end last year of one the MON for a second time on the specimen, blaming because he can act jayme. Even that didn't end in a in a very civil why I mean it was. It was a position where? Many within the team were they were glad to be moving on changing things that sports careers like political career Israeli, almost always end in failure is very very. Very very rare for sportsman, very fond driver to. achieve achieved the peak, and then finish at the peak of there being a decline. Of Nico Rosberg perfectly time when he retired from within that world championship. He just knew that wasn't. This wasn't sustainable over the long term acquitted the top. And quit for his own reasons, but. Any of the great, let's just look at what's. Sebastian vessels going for for our the moment. All that success he's had a rebel. On Red Bull didn't end very well, and he's had the joys at Ferrari, but is ended in a bad way, so. Partly wife, and then those looking back at Fernandez careers is clouded slightly each step of the way you know these careers end on highs, and it's fourteen years since he last won a world championship so I suppose that the question we have to ask Johnny. Is the fire still burning? Is? Is he doing this because he doesn't know what else to do with his life, if he's not involved in top level, motor, racing or does, does he really think that he can win a championship within the next couple of seasons? Especially, we all know from his recent performances with McLaren the. He's more than capable of outperforming. Bad cowpats. Even Genius Alonso Allied to. Iran, our adventure is probably not going to topple Lewis Hamilton in a Mercedes. Questions Assira earlier. She said what what were the factors. You had the option of factory his go. Race winning form at the moment and understands Mercedes would bring you huge benefit their Sebastian vessel with his history of torture success. And the image you could with how come you knew where he was out, we could aboard a youngster in lots of factors. What what was it that made? A man is not been in F. One for two years. and his age win over them. And his answer was simply motivation. He just senses burning insider, Nando, now about seeing this is his last chance for success. He's coming back because he wants to come back and wants to make successive it these coming back even though he knows where Renos out, he's not under the illusion that he gets into race winning car from Melbourne next year, so I think it's motivation, and it will be like that until the cost racing, and then we'll see where things are after six months. I spice and You see it on the front lawn for a few years. Now you've observed the goings when things aren't going right with finance. McLaren! Was your take on the likelihood of him, not firing his mouth, often and advertising the hell out of his employers. Should the car not be competitive I would? That the happening I think it's not someone he says is hot in his sleeve and that's that's what we for Moss Boltzmann that we won't. Characters won't people a very honest and that gives us to writes about it makes it does make the product more interesting flights, but obviously the I guess when things going while Semaines, things can get really really bad, and I mean that's ultimately come back to bite Fernando. His acrimonious, falling out with home during the NGO runs foul to me Adnan on his indy five hundred. What full philosophy that Andrassy couldn't go newton. Under his partner, and that that that killed that day Oh basically found I William Bland from. I mean if took muscle mall so mellow absence at the bit older wiser Fernando Bap says that there's a chance thought, but ultimately yeah, He said today that he knows the twenty twenty one. It's GONNA be. It's GonNa be a preparation yet. Clinton he had always had his eye on these new regulations originally planned times twenty, one twenty two, but he didn't want to delay his own. Come back to that point as well, he'd raw twenty in a car. Be Rising beat Farouq ultimately, I think he held I. Wear is ultimate, went open against the first race of next season, and expect him to be fighting the front of winning because Reynaud because of the carryover, because Brennan will probably be exactly why they all toes end this season so I thought best midfield. With decent in midfield up cans likes of Clara and racing, pointing Ferrari the we just Australia, but that is not a wants. It will be an even as much as he is. I was dragged kicking and screaming upgrade doubtful what it should be doing. That's not gonNA push him to to. Rice wins all a championship next year anyway, but nothing when twenty twenty two comes along, and I saw similar vibe from Sarel as to what were recalled I was announced that always going towards. Towards, as it was so grand tools, light, twenty, twenty, nineteen, twenty, twenty, two, eighty, next step forward, and then twenty one year that we really really hit the top level, and I think they've not not like out I even though last year was pretty pretty poor by time steps, constructive championship didn't get anywhere near. The top teams on yeah. I think twenty two. That's going to be when Fernando LB. Probably his his his last chancery that will be decided as to can go out. On a high and maybe not raceway. Don't get some podiums released. All is the final her going to happen. Still stuck in the midfield writes it unable to add to his legacy. Cyril does slightly have a habit of over promising and under delivering doesn't tell all certainly expecting people to remain the expectations. Are we looking at situation here?.

"The NFL season. Forget week one Louis Riddick. Soccer about week eight middle of the season. Who will be the raiders starting quarterback? Yeah look I still think it's going to be Derek Carr your conventional wisdom. Says Maybe Marcus Mariota has a Ryan Tannehill type of scenario play itself out but I still believe Derek Carr is going to be one of those people who's going to rise to the challenge here. There's a lot of speculation surrounding misspent. Marcus is signing but there is a great quarterback. I think someone who's GonNa rise to the challenge. Someone who John. Maybe looking for a replacement in long term but I still think he's going to be a guy who who last the twenty twenty season as a starter in Oakland. Have About Las Vegas new with right. Get used to that New England. Who's The quarterback in the wing? Still think it's going to be Jerry instead of what? This is a guy who I believe Josh mcdaniels and Bill Belichick really do believe in. He's someone who put a lot of time into someone who they believe at this point in his career. He's right where Jimmy Garoppolo was comparable developmental state. I think they will still look to add a veteran. Look to add some more competition you know to go along with Brian Work but I think he'll be the starter. We'll talk more about him later. Meanwhile Marcus how about the chargers the La Charges? Who's their quarterback? Tyrod Taylor was still a starting quarterback and I I believe Anthony. Lynn has a lot of confidence in tyrod Taylor. Obviously he was in Cleveland play. Well suffered the injury. Baker Mayfield came in this type office that they want to run this quarterback. That's very athletic. Tyrod Taylor it'd be the starter I and that means Cam. Newton won't be He's one of the one of the places we've talked about him possibly going. We all understand all that he accomplished in Carolina. But now he's a free agent yesterday. Stephen a Smith had some pretty strong comments about the way the panthers moved on from him. Let's listen to Steve Carolina..

"It he knows that Dallas Right now is between a rock and a hard place as far as trying to get this done. Because as ed laid out looking for them under if they just have to keep carrying him on the franchise tag that absolutely just hamstrings them as far as they're planning both this year and in subsequent years as far signing players. So really it's going to be about. How much money are they willing to boost up? Maybe his average hourly his average yearly salary willing to boost the signing bonus and then and then he will go ahead and add on another year to give them some salary cap relief in the short term. It's all going to be about give and take and right now. It doesn't sound like deck because of the fact that he knows that he has leveraged his timing on his side in. The situation is such that they need in there. It doesn't sound like he's willing to do that right now. So I mean the contract. Negotiations ultimately are always about both sides giving in and not necessarily getting everything that they want. So somebody walks away not getting everything but right now. It doesn't seem like he's willing to do so. And that's why we are where we are. Markets here there in Dallas here former cowboy. You live there day in day out of a second here because I want to get to other things in your mind. Is there any way? This doesn't get worked out. That he winds up playing this season on the franchise. Tag there to me. There's no way this doesn't get worked out because first of all to lose point like for for future terms. What are you GonNa do with that? Plays a franchise tag this year and decides to walk or decided not to sign this franchise tag with a new head coach. I think the drivers for Frederick Retirement puts even more pressure on his organization to get it done as well having that back there and obviously getting them in the camp so Mike McCarthy and and they can get this.

"Us out there in left field yes it was about that because I was critical of that why would you knew Alonso a chance to be the first baseman why wouldn't especially in spring training I figure stick guys everywhere why didn't you get reps in the outfield well you you look at the roster as we went into camp last year you got Todd Frazier you got Pete Alonso you got Jed Lowrie you got JD Davis you got it all these guys that you know realistically we're going to be death positions for us in the which then the outfield he needed necessarily see Jeff McNeil playing the outfield every day so you know we we didn't know how this always get a shape up but when we we started the year we felt like we had enough coverage in the outfield and we didn't have the answers about people and so at that point right we had to make sure that we were covered that their feet needed more time in the minor leagues or you didn't make the club the dom Smith was going to be our opening day first baseman at that point so you know its it's one of those situations where when demo Mrs five months of the year says never comes back at all and you know things things happen pretty quickly all of a sudden you know we didn't get as much production from the center fielders that we anticipated and and all that we found ourselves in a situation we need to mix it up last one for me Brody Jed Lowrie will we see him this year I mean I I can't believe he's walking around in a pool when it comes to camp but we're gonna see this guy at all I I hope so you know jet he's been able to to resume and take you know participate in basically all of our backfield baseball activities in without braces on he's able to do pretty much everything that would put him in game ready no the challenge now is transitioning him to due to a brace that is a little bit more competition you know ready for lack of a better word and it's not something that will keep working on but you know I know he wants to play and always working hard we just gotta gotta keep working out a big predictions to come get us was last year when I got for twenty twenty no no no my old art projects in this I mean obviously you guys start of top of the show and we we want to make the playoffs there's no doubt about it but you know we're running down a two time division winner the brazen we're we're chasing a World Series champ so I think the mindset that will have is we got to go over calm people that were better than us last year that'll be that that'll be the focus Brody to pleasure appreciate you coming on manta dot it's a lot during the year all right appreciate it guys Brodie van wagon we are live from port Saint Lucie Florida the newly named clover park Pete Alonso Jeff McNeil Louise Rowe Haas Michael Conforto all coming up putting on Roberts in the afternoon.

"Alonso hit more home runs than anyone else they can do compared to others that's it that's the best way to judge in areas where home runs are too high or too low you have to compare to others Alonso led the majors in home runs last year I got hit fifty you okay okay that's you know I'm just asking I'm not on I thank you once I think he was but that's what you have to look at here and say that the home runs worn out of whack last year will appeal of those should be incredibly proud of him more than anybody else there is a consistent twenty five to thirty five home runs I mean I think that's one bowls Jews tonight I think that's basically what the guy is I I really I mean I I I I I don't understand I mean we want to be fifty on my second if he's out of fifty home run guy not that it doesn't have to bill as he was doing steroids no we don't yeah I don't think he is now market in Yonkers smock our you Hey Joe I'm in love you guys man that was up there too now that you are you retired everybody wants to at let's put it this way everybody has an opinion right on right is involved I'm his best wig and everybody thinks it was what two thousand eleven to get different just got his best when is the best way is to be the first Super Bowl against the patriots doesn't have to be that yeah you're right yeah is it alright my Mrs different they're dead because he got his these guys but but he the best when it has to be beat New York defeated yeah yeah right but nobody seems to mention the that's my quarterback gate again one and only time we play Dallas in the playoffs well but in terms of best win for what reason was a great post season one on the way to that season and it was great I mean it was a great one was great with all run was great but I mean you can't to me you beat the team that was on the feet of one a group let's put this way this team was so good that he be put a championship that when it when the NFL network did they are in their hundred year anniversary of the top ten greatest teams of all time they were in its what does that tell you about that team how good day one the only one of the ten teams in the top ten teams of all time according to NFL network in a top on your a hundred years that didn't win the championship the only one so what does that tell you about that team yeah I think what I mean it has to be his best why has to be I I get the idea of beating Dallas in Dallas anymore and we Eileen all weather I get it all the number one way and is this story arc that we're talking about ride and then knocking off an undefeated team like you said if you want to narrow it to one game to me it has to be that day it is one of the one yeah I there were two games that jump out at me more than others that one and the niner game okay because of the sheer fact of beating you right right Seoul book but yeah I mean there is no story and no game that can match that ride they knocked off the perfect yet maybe the greatest team we've ever seen may be looking back at manning's numbers that Dallas gave me mention actually for the ball eighteen times that day was at all what will free team for a hundred and sixty three yards two touchdowns twenty one seventeen twenty one they won a big defensive stop here that's how the game ended and get one game into rubble toward a pick any ends all right believe was or W. McCord is all our W. right corners you are correct yeah fourth eleven young the giant twenty three down for through an interception are double quarters now so they were there they were twenty three yards away from the game winning touchdown and the defense one out made a big play Rommel got the football with a chance to be a hero looking back on again at midfield I'm a dad with a minute fifty to go down for and that you talk about the legacy changing game out while he won't know who knows of Roma would wanted to Green Bay and one I guess they had the whole field that year yeah Dallas was in a boy yet either number one yeah right they would the winner not but they're in the NFC championship which world whatever got there right and obviously changes the libraries everything got to football one fifty to go mid field down four and threw a game ending interception or double Korean hello again to Alaska was it from every game they play in the playoffs that year was up well run was magical the Tampa Bay game was in phenomenal got the other game because they weren't that good Tampa Bay right and Chris Simms the quarterback a game was if I think I think it was some no wasn't no no was in it was Jeff Garcia was gonna say yes okay as for some reason that that sticks in my right the first round of the two civil rights are kind of forget when he landed and they killed them cross the right but you don't talk that politically it has like I had a beat Atlanta yeah did you think about fifteen in one Green Bay Packers at Lambeau right Erin Rogers then the quiet title game in San Francisco and obviously there were the previous one we were talking about how we have more opportunities a Yankee tickets and more your phone calls plus we throw hostile hopefully join us soon as well but I'm going Robertson to Mike at six celebrate this sizzling sprint week with amazing savings at your local sprint store now through.

"Pete Alonso Jeff McNeil had not here was Alonso he had the two run single he won the home run derby not too shabby I feel like I won this weekend just by enjoying everything to the whole as when I played with the Mets on here was a lot and so he was as the whole do the derby next year after winning it this week what's next year Dodger Stadium I love in a Dodger Stadium so we'll see I love that place and I mean the fun part to do it at home sounds like he's in if you listen right yeah I was right exactly realism in hours next fifty and all these doing it next year yeah you know the key thing those they got a base hit last night yes I did and by the way one of these dumb arguments I know I shouldn't judge everything off a social media gives Yankee and met fans on Twitter going back and forth like Yankee fan shaming met fans for being excited the P. Alonso had a had a nice weekend like well I think Yankee fans enjoyed when Jeter had his final all star number one Erin judge that what he did right I mean like but it's so this is your World Series like how many times yes yes it is somewhat yeah right like it but it's ours right that's what I'm saying okay usually when we can get the hay que the Mets are forty and fifty in the Yankees are gonna win the division but they still feel like they need to squash the enjoyment out of it it's a little silly well see that's why I wear the happy Y. E. sure tori Yankee elimination that yes speaking of squashing enjoyment Jeff McNeil had his squashed when he looked up at the scoreboard and his name was there but but its picture wasn't it was his teammate topping the girls picture up.
