WE'RE GONNA eventually. Get into Nazia stuff, but. The fact that like back, then Mike I. Want to believe that you don't have to and stuff like that and listeners in general that like. I believe the United States, government, and the British government and other government agencies worst, supporting Hitler when Hitler was creating his fascist fucking realities. I believe that we're funding him giving him money to be able to do this and brought him also into power. Also he kind of just forced like he did that himself I. Don't think anybody helps them with like he did. He was a miracle speech where. He was taught that other people I believe that we'll get into. We talk about the. fucking. People that taught him didn't seem to be so good I know it's funny. There's codes. It's like you know what that one mother fucker that didn't let Hitler into his art school and let Hitler become an artist. Never happen third artist he wanted to. made him up fucking riot like. fucking murder somebody. Down Doungel's. does his times. have. Way. Does his time spent Russia. And that's where. He was from was Russia right so like many have been. Maybe he's operational. At the time. It's time in the US may have been an instrument in pulling the US into the war with Britain. y'All crazy. That'd be if that was true that he actually went over to New York pain like a bunch of dysphoric weird people in Midgets, but to actually enthrall the people to go to war. Craze that'd be. Really like what what kind of damage can one person do on not a public platform? It seems world. Connections were German spies. Is the US like and that's what I read onto that he was in contact with people that were German descent that liked Hitler's views, and that's when he was speaking about fucked a British because he was actually backing this German dude, so it's kind of like it's his. That's what they're saying about him and MOM Foschi. The both our worlds are very muddled because nobody really knows what the fuck actually happened. They kind of wrote their own bullshit. Right be thrown lives them. So he was also pro Irish and anti-british article as a propaganda they may have came out and helped him secure his German trust during World War Two now. So! There's a bunch of stuff so much. Thomas Nazi connection as a result of Crawley's vocal political views, an publicity stunts rumors spread perpetrating that his ties to the Nazi. Rudolf Hess and we'll get into this and I'll make you fucking research of the ship because it's very interesting. I read our has dame. You must look the shit up, but at off Hitler's deputy fuhrer. Was the second highest ranking. Nazi in history. Of Mangla! There's other people. Get into this and I want you to research zero first raking Nazi. Is that just Hitler? Hitler's the furor? Oh, yes, so Rudolph Hass was essentially as man. Like how your mind Oh. Is that so I'll be yours some people. He possessed an active interest in clairvoyancy and the Colt. And that's why we're doing this because I have a fucking esoteric like. Nazi conspiracy. I can't wait to get into. World War. Two is extremely interesting. One is to but world, war. That whole everything do with that is like fucking crazy to me. And even his colleagues through thought that Crowley was kind of odd, but in March nineteen forty one he entered the cockpit and suppose we of Solo mission without warning into the United. Kingdom and he ran a few over Scotland and this is playing by way of parachute, so college's a book coons up. Parachute out there and he was, he was actually end up getting captured. But there are many theories and some claim. He wants to make peace with Britain, so this was also a stunt. Just seems like he was smart enough to set things up now. We have like I. Don't no one really knows for sure why he would undertake such a strange stunt. Yeah, like what's in it for him I know. It was curious though that Rudolf Hess later admitted in all seriousness that the idea had been inspired by Crowley in a dream by supernatural forces. All in golfed this bullshit. We're getting to the end of CON-. Crowley's life's pretty soon, but during this time Crowley was living in London. And when the blitz began the blitz creek in them bombing, Britain and stuff books, group vulgar. Yeah, that's where they came from He moved to Torquay. Seaside town, England's coast and nineteen thirty nine. So that's crazy. That is when were to starting second world. War broke out. He Contract Naval intelligence division, offering his services. But supposedly the night I was saying how. I could. I can help you guys like. To cover, but because he was reputation the time they were like fuck that I heard. This guy fucking kills cats in the drinks. Blood rather soldiers after like. Let's go. Maybe like fucking coke, outer bath and Shit like. It's not the same thing but sure but if That bad reputation now you're doing drug addict. Everyone's doing. People saw him in the presence of British senior intelligent communities. Some even claimed that churchhill. The V for victory idea. was by Crowley. V for victory like that really up. You know crazy that I. that's true, but that's such a weird saying say. Churchill was I thought he was a lot. No tertia was a little earlier. Churchill helped. I thought he was like early nineteen hundreds no. We're we're widened. That may even. Wise but I'm not getting into this history shit now because I should know this, but I might be wrong. Drinking also so I watch Schiller documentaries war, sometimes I just remember I don't overarching. The last air bedrose fucking. So, here we go the poor any, but any conspiracy theories exist they could have like..

"There is danger of going back of course. You're climbing server whether. They become entrenched and we're crushed by an avalanche because that can happen. Here's. While you're climbing up. You fucking idiot. You how you been avalanche, you climb faster than the avalanche. Facts for sure for sure while the other everyone, take that into effect and please don't fucking killer. What others are. Palm said all I gotta do is walk faster than. You barrel into that avalanche face I, and you come up the other side clean. No, you fucking take two three fuck and four animals and makeshift them into a snowboard and go the fuck around in their bellies. That's A. We. Don't condone any PTA animal. Dogs, cats or anything? That's been harmed even though he doesn't like cats. So while others rushed to help those who were trapped on their snow, allaster refused to assist them. Fuck those dues dinner ready. The whole expedition Doria doesn't make sense. No one's going down died, but the ones going up. Didn't they did die? People are trying to help each other. Oh, didn't want to help in the. Because, he's a Dick or he's an avalanche two years probably on the side like he might been more head because he's more experienced. Right Schilling to have. The whole experience is crazy like the to climate fucking Dyke. I WANNA. Climb out all right. Try One day, upright die, but it's. Watch mission. We can't walk up your stairs. Your mom pretty good. The whole expedition was called off and the next day Crowley left on his own, and he gave he gave up climbing. That day. That's an he's like fuck it. Wasn't asshole and I fucked up. He's exhausted, he's. Let's get into the air, so teric origins. Organizations are eight, which runs the Ortis tempest are artist Oh, yeah, rentis searcher, the orders. Temp templates are artists. Is the OT okay, so originally began as an offshoot of freemasonry, although Crowley wasn't the founder as many people think, definitely was not. The group admitted him in nineteen ten. And subsequently held a number of high ranking positions throughout Crowley's life. Crawley's ideas held. Highly influenced. Of the direction of the organization. Within two years, they elected him to control the English and the Irish chapters. Oh two years. That's pretty quick? Crowley compiled his Esoteric Research and beliefs into a number of books that the clergy of the OT. The OT. Oh, revered as godsend, so they're like they really liked Crowley. Was Jesus one. They thought he knew. More than I don't know that. You, know? He just he just been doing the ship half his life so. The Alma our theme. Last time. The. Lamma Philemon Philemon that's. Kind of slammer. But whatever that's a religion. He started was a covenant. Malcolm Nation of deep. Eastern philosophies blade into magic of the Kabbalah and other Western concepts. You put a bunch of Shit and throughout the wall, and some of it stuck in the other. Down like he's gypsum on the back of boys. You know so. He was a priest. You Bet in. The OT OT. Oh, they would call them. Clergy, which is don't think religion fucks. Why. Whatever makes people happy? Let Them Be. House eight. Let Them Be. So he would also incorporate ideas from tantric sex, regarding alternate days of cautious and using a ray of second dog drugs it's. Tender sex is like I think it's like doing. Many different sects pysche positions. So we do like that would make sense that's we're getting into. Manson's down the road soon, insult. Using that psychological drug for X. Like personally. Ecstasy! No but he took more like Asan's. And stuff like that, but personally doing mushrooms I. Don't WanNa have sex on mushrooms I've heard it's great, but I feel like every little touch and feel is so different than normal reality. Having trip me out. Why is this feel like this is like and the thought of what is happening. Probably in that cautiousness state, my penises, entering of the Johnny which is a whole babies. Come from, and then you just go down. Well crowd to stay horny. Off. While Crowley did a lean immoral diverges lifestyle. Some say that he was not all bad. I don't believe that. One thing he did was save his wife from an arranged marriage Rose Kelly was supposed to marry up of married her anyway. raving. Saving or is that kidnapping? Rose Edith Kelly supposed to marry another man when Crowley out asked her to elope. Take Away. It doesn't need to be cynical. It just means leaving. However, it became. However. It soon became far more than a marriage of convenience when he fell in love with her. Both of them shared a fascination the Colt. They actually gave each other magical names. I'm not going to pronounce your magic name, but I wanNA. Know about what is it? fucking magical name Alexa. Why Bench! fucking moody today I know. Yourself, billy billy. I found this for you on the web. Searching thirty eight results for men thoughts himself. I'm not looking. For some stupid shit, but the fighting is, he would use magical words like Abracadabra. Shit like that obviously. You're gonNA say like nonsense. Set in Weirdos Kuttab, but they would give each other magical knaves. because. No I don't think he's Abracadabra. Exam, even honeymooning Cairo and spent their wedding night in the king's Chamber of the Great Pyramid so I. Don't know he must have paid a pretty penny to do that. And that's why also to spend a night and the great chamber. I think that he said that he hallucinated and saw visions, but I've said this before the podcast like Napoleon the great general, he also stated the nights chamber. Are The great. Yeah, the King's Chamber of the Great Pyramids, and I've said this before that he saw like weird reptilian shadow people, he was like shot Abbas body, and so a horrific nightmares shit and then shot back in his body. You say never visited since. Crowley probably enjoyed that, but they have. Rituals in Cairo, he saw this I. Think the museum, but he saw this site of. Em. We're calling museum exhibit. Zip. Sailing French word. Invoke the number six six because he saw this exhibit. Yeah, he was drawn to it in the exhibit name was six six, so I think that's where he took upon. His name is that. Is I would start at that sixty six on the exhibitors and odd number that somebody just took as that he did. He start seeing. That's where my confusion I've never he he. He is other madame. Flats. Like! Great Ma'am Lasky, but she. She's the one that started this, and then kind of. He took after her a little bit. It's is six. She served six, hundred, sixteen, the devil he initially did, but. I haven't really read the Bible all the way through, but I've heard people say that the number sixty six is in the Bible calls himself the bees, the beast, which is six six six six number. In the Bible, so? I think he just saw this as a sign. Probably, but yeah, I'm supposed to be bad guy. I'm pretty damn sure. Six six isn't in the Bible I heard it was. I've read it a lot of time. She look it up kind of curious like if I missed that like I. Read it Fronta Back. I'M GONNA see at least four times minimum in my life growing up so fucking. I grew up Christian. I read the Koran more than I've read the Fucking Bible Well you didn't grow. Christian I was in church. Did grow Christian, but at six years old when the priests are talking about hating homosexuality. Left. You know what if you type in Google is six six six? What's the first thing you think would come is six six six good credit score. Nobody is concerned. anyways, so it says like the the whole issue goes back to the New Testament Book of revelation, particularly diverse, it says one who understands can calculate the number of the beast for it is. His number stands for a person. His number is six hundred, sixty six, but hold up. because. One wonders where all the fear and sinister camp from six six comes from, because the odds are provided some pretty good clues about the meaning rate in the first passage in the biblical world, the number seven stood for wholeness and Kelly. Yes, so being called six six was an insult implying that you were short of being a real thing. Okay, so saying them saying that like the devil isn't even real so their marriage with. Rosie is Kelly. Their marriage was whoever not a happy one, although rose, gave allaster to Children Rosewood, also, she performed rituals on her firstborn kid to invoke demons kind of thing. Would you want that for your Chelsea want her firstborn to be. Come out at monster because ouster was playing wants the house to probably influenced you like. You know what.

Okay and eighteen ninety five when he was around twenty years old Crowley Start, attending Trinity College at this time is when he changes name from Alexander to star. If he why he chose Alexander and Allaster, like allaster sounds a little more cloudy, little more flamboyant I guess and he was kind of being flamboyant. Though Ones of last time I've ever heard anyone name Alastair. I. Don't know one person. I feel like I might have heard that name somewhere, but I don't personally know anybody. Maybe maybe like one somewhere. Maybe so at the time he started having homosexual thoughts homeless hormone. And add to no no back then. You. Know didn't want to be out as one so anytime. The one man freaked out and tying himself in an attempt to run. Thinking fast cruelly hit the man on the head with the flat of his acts which saved everyone's lives. The avalanche did not happen. Instead of being thankful, this actually began a rumor in the whole expedition that Crowley would beat people if they displeased him which Kinda through a funk into the teamwork of the group? This incident and Galore MoD not following directions, put their expedition behind schedule, and the weather was making them pay for that S-. Curly saw this and saw what was going to happen if they didn't pick up the pace, he tried to tell. MoD but Gloria didn't care for reason, and at one point he even refused to leave his camp so that his men could bask in the sun for a while. Concerning climbing skills and knowledge, this situation is analogous to cruelly being a math expert stuck in a classroom full of kindergarteners. But the rumor is against him and Delara Maude sabotaging the expedition at every turn. Croly was finding it very difficult to keep the expedition on track. But his attempts were futile eventually galore MoD declared that the expedition was over after an argument, and he turned the men around to descend back down the mountain. Though. The old barred knew that if they did that, men were going to die. Elster pleaded for them to wait until the next morning. Because then it would be safe. The weather was too bad at the moment. The win too strong. The snow to fresh the weather, completely unfavorable to accomplish such a track. But. They ignored him going down anyway. Shaking his head at the fools curly. Let them go knowing full well or risk. So curly did what practicality dictated and made up his camp until it would be safe to descend the mountain. Well he actually wasn't alone in the tent. One of his buddies did stay with him. However.

"Now since croly made it one of his missions in life to take on what he saw when the greatest forms of oppression and thought control Christianity. It's no wonder he was down to experiment. Ways the current people the time would have looked at in horror. Crowley's first mystical experience came allegedly after having sexual relations with another man though he is vague. At what this mystical experience was many of his biographers. Say that this is what he meant. And if the biographers are correct after the scene counter he would embrace his bisexuality for the rest of his life and it was actually pretty dangerous because back then any homosexuality whatsoever was against the fuck law and could ruin someone's life though he was one of the elite so it probably would have just been a heavy fine for him a little slap on the wrist. It was still dangerous business. Though at this point in his life he already cared little about how people think or how thought he should live. He would still keep his escapades in homosexuality or bisexuality. Sorry private for fear of retribution from society he never wanted to be ostracized or that guy basically but despite him keeping it all secret it seems in his character the best part of it too croly was that it was one of the utmost blasphemies in the Christian religion to sleep with another man though he never said any of this explicitly and and like I said whenever he would talk about it. He was very vague about his first mystical experience. However whatever this experience was it was so profound at changed the direction of his life forever. From this point on Alister Crowley would become interested in all things opposed to Christianity and mainstream society. In general chief amongst would be magic in the Colt. Crawley's library would increasingly contain books on Western esotericism and his love of the mysteries slowly came to dominate his mind around eighteen. Eighty seven croly with journey to Russia. An interest to learn language. A lot of people were astonished at this and kind of look down on him for it he claimed it was because he wanted a future in diplomacy for the British Empire. But this is where some conspiracy theories about him come in see to some of his biographers. Croly was recruited as a secret agent all the way back at this time in his life and that he was being trained for a career espionage croly was definitely a spy later in life but at this point so early in his life. It's still up in the air if he was Up despite stuff or not though there's no way to prove it or disprove it interesting stuff. Though eventually curly left Russia earlier than intended the official reason being that he became ill but honestly who knows with this guy could have been a bunch of different reasons but curly did tell everyone that he was abandoning your career as a diplomat and return to England and when he returned the man showed far more of a dedication to the colts he purchased eighty weights the book of black magic and started fully tinkering with the mysteries the entire time he was still writing poetry. Making many Esoteric Poems He even privately published a lot of his poetry erotic poetry which was kind of a hard sell in the Victorian era so he didn't really make much money but then again at this point in his life the last thing croly needed was money and as always he continued. His mountaineering is First and foremost love. Other than the occult that is in eighteen eighty nine curly had a fateful meeting with a chemist named Julian L. Baker who has secretly a member of a prominent Secret Society. Curly had been looking for teacher for some time. And in a lot of the books. You've read on the occult. They said that when you were ready the teacher will come to you little. Did he know it that he was getting an introduction to the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn? The Hermetic order was utterly dedicated to discovering all the mysteries of existence. The paranormal and of course everything a Colt. The members all had extremely gifted intellects and their ranks contains some of the most profound thinkers and even celebrities of the age. The secret society practice many different forms of magic but mostly high magic And a lot of it was directed more inward towards personal evolution than outwards towards material gain. But they could definitely use it for material gain at least according to them. I'm not saying that magic is real or that you should believe in. I'm just saying that these people definitely believed in it. The only way to get into the golden dawn was to be initiated and in order to be initiated had to be selected by a member and the attributes that the members of the Golden Dawn looked for. Let's just say many people don't have the. The members of the order definitely saw promise and Alister Crowley. He was blindfolded and taken to the temple for initiation and Mr Crowley finally had his wish teachers an organization to support his. Study of the occult. The order was founded by Masons. Nso TERRORISTS MCGREGOR matters being chief amongst them while not at first but later see originally matters had shared I mean a more equal role with the other two founders. But as the order moved on he took firm control of it matters was a genius who was instrumental in decoding and translating many of the documents that would go on to be some of the core tenants of the Golden Dawn. He had a huge influence. In the occult world and his work basically still resonates till this day. He was an author and responsible for a lot of the Hermetic Kabbalah. That's come down through the years. So Macgregor mathers is a legendary occultist easily on par with allistair. Croly though not as well known ellen an interesting fact is that McGregor Mathur's branch of the Golden. Dawn is actually still around. Today it's called the Alpha Omega though. There are people who would debate that so anyway. I'm getting off topic. Alister Crowley joined this huge sprawling awesomely knowledgeable group of occultist. In fact he was rising too quickly because he was starting to upset the other members. Mcgregor mothers was fond of crowly and took a special interest in him. Which a lot of the other high-ranking and junior members of the golden dawn did not appreciate though. Despite how fast curly was rising. It was still not enough for him and he kind of branched out researching stuff and getting into stuff. He really wasn't ready for and wasn't part of his curriculum magical curriculum. One of these things was the notorious go Asia if you know well if you're familiar with the Bible at all you're probably familiar with King. Solomon Will King. Solomon was granted dominion over Demons by God and use them to build the first temple. Now the Golden Dawn definitely Has Practices where they control demons or any spirits for that matter. That like Elemental or ghosts or anything you can really think of Golden Donna. Depths are basically all exorcists. So they do message that stuff after a lot of time preparing themselves and learning and going through all the different magical grades. The galway show is a guidebook on how to summon and control the Demons of Solomon. Needless to say that was way above Alastair Crawley's current pay grade in the order but luckily this messing around was stuffy was ready for actually led the good things having teacher that skyrocketed even faster through the grades when he was at the temple with the rest of the order. Doing whatever it is a cultist do. He was approached by one of the most senior members. I forgot to mention that every single member of the golden dawn takes a secret name after initiation and Ulster. Crawley's was Purdah Robbo. This senior member of talking about his name was Alan Bennett. At the temple. He called out the Puerto. Saying you've been messing with the Asia to which croly completely denied. But then Alan Bennett. Said some creepy stuff turning to him and saying will then Negotiatia has been messing with. You was a possible. Some entities were following croly around. And that this Alan Bennett. Could actually see them. Who knows but I do know is that they hit it off and Alan Bennett. Came to live with croly in his own flat. Were he was his personal magical tutor and with Bennett's help he was soon surpassing all of the other members that were near his grade with Bennett's help. He learn more about ceremonial magic than he could ever dream of. And this is the beginning of Alastair Crawley's use of drugs for his magical work because Bennett was pretty into it to them then did all kinds of crazy stuff and Alan. Bennett would remain. One of Ulster Crowley's biggest friends. I guess if he had friends for many years to come however all good things do come to an end then it was pretty sick and had to get out of England for his own health. He was extremely into Buddhism. So he's planning on going to one of the Buddhist countries to further not only his magical skills but his buddha skills as well. The only problem was that he did not have the money for the journey. So like I've said Croly in his early twenties was really loader. Don Cash do whatever he wanted but he had a personal code against lending his friends money however curly was nothing if not resourceful and he was dating a girl who he just broke up with though she really wanted to get back with him. He wasn't really into it or feeling it and here comes. Crawley's ruthless side. Because he told her that he would get back with her or whatever if she just paid for its trip to wherever. Buddhist country was going and the poor girl totally did it. The only problem was when she went to croly saying like I did what you asked. Please have me back. He told her to get lost. He just used her for her money. This is one of the first. Many pricky things documented that he does to women. Always remember that Alister. Crowley was never a in never wanted to be. He's not a good guy not necessarily a bad guy but maybe a little bit of a bad guy but he's not evil but skates that fine gray line of morality in the Golden Dawn. He was now without his greatest teacher but it only just load impressive rise to prominence in the order in November eighteen. Ninety nine curly purchased both can house in four years. On the shore of Loch Ness in Scotland. He kind of was influenced by Macgregor. Mathers love for Scottish culture. And you know going with One of his mentors favorite passions he also developed a love for Scottish culture describing himself as the Lord of Boll Skin. He even took to wearing traditional highland dress even during his visits to London and this whole time he still doing his mountain climbing. He continued writing his poetry publishing. Jessie Belle and other tragic poems tales of archaic songs of the Spirit Appeal to the American Republic and Jessica. Most kinda gained if you're reviews from literary critics though Jeff Though was considered a pretty.

"But soon after this he began misbehaving in school. Being a troublemaker. Basically wherever he went he was harshly punished and eventually he was even removed from the school and he would basically school off from school to school forbid he would behave so badly that his mother would refer to him as the great beast from revelation and instead of being opposed to this nickname curly. Did a very curly thing to do and embraced it for the rest of his life even calling himself the beast six six six as a mockery of the insult is mother gave him as a child. He became more and more disenfranchised with the Brethren Christianity in general in Church he began pointing out inconsistencies in the Bible to his religious teachers and basically went against morality of all Christianity by smoking masturbating and having sex with prostitutes though he did lose his virginity to a made his made his family's made and croly just basically all around had a rocky. You know teenage years all that stuff all the scars on his face like the little. The I don't know what the word is POT POCKMARKS. DuNNo day came from when he put a bunch of gunpowder in a jar. Put it in the ground and lit on fire to explode it. The explosion put him in the hospital and knocked him out for a bit and all of the rocks and crap got lodged in his face. It got taken out. But that's where he got his face scars but eventually croly was done with school dumb with all the other crappy had to do and was a freeman to do. Whatever he wanted. Croly would develop a intense interest in poetry. Not only that but he loved chess. Law Did in fact if croly never became an occultist doing all that stuff that he did he would probably have gone down in history as one of the best poets who ever lived and not kidding. He was a really really talented poet but out of all of his many interests as he grew into a man his favorite and most passionate was mountain climbing in eighteen ninety four. He joined the Scottish out nearing club and he actually accomplished some crazy climbs that nobody else could do in. Some people said with straight up impossible like climbing the beachhead in England. And it's around this time that he adopted the name Alastair throwing away his Edward Name that he was born with forever and in eighteen ninety five he began a three year course at Trinity College Cambridge. He studied philosophy and English literature and even became the President of the Chess Club practicing the game for two hours a day. Every day he even briefly considered a professional career as a chess player all the while embracing his love of literature and poetry. He had a personal library. That was massive but understandable for somebody of his wealth and during his time at Cambridge many of his own poems appeared in the student applications such as the GRANTA Cambridge magazine and the catabolism though he always continued his mountaineering fascination and even went to the Alps for hiking. And when we come back. We'll start to get into Alastair Crowley's first mystical experiences. And also his journey into adulthood you're listening to cryptic chronicles. Don't go.

"On my finger and my my hand by hand my all tonight like John Children in the right. I hope you any shockingly secret. Yet we find the evening mail of evil night on different teams main hill. All right. Let's start from the beginning. Showy the curly family has actually been pretty prominent in British Society for longer than America has even existed in the seventeen hundreds of crowly would even pitch political schemes to Benjamin Franklin himself in an attempt to avoid the American revolution. This Crawley's three sons supported. The end of slavery in the British Empire and their descendants would be prosperous businessman which is where the croly fortune came from. These were the Crawley's that were responsible for the creation of popular brewery that established itself pretty much as the very first punch. A place where someone could go to get lunch and a sandwich glass of Ale for four pence which was actually a pretty good deal back. Then the pub lunch brewery would become so popular many more would open and they'd have a ton of imitators but none were ever so successful expanding basically all throughout England. The breweries would be the source of the croly family fortune for generations to come but the family would also put their money into railroad throughout the eighteen. Hundreds which was a pretty big booming business. Back then need this to say. Edward Crowly who has Alastair Croly? Father was born so rich that he never had to worker pursue a career. Really he was born with all the money he'd ever need to do. I guess basically anything he could ever want to do but he was still a highly educated engineer from the best schools. Britain had offer though despite all of his education he actually never got any job in engineering. He pretty much retired at the age of twenty six to vote himself completely to religion. The croly family had been quaker Christians for generations but Edward wasn't really content to follow in his family's footsteps much like his son after him. After a short stint as an Anglican clergyman he would convert to the extremely zealous fundamentalist sect of Christianity known as the Plymouth brethren now to say this sect was hard core would be a vast understatement. Brethren members weren't even allowed to associate with people who are not part of the sect which basically goes against all Jesus's teachings but whatever they would be forced to cut the ties with any family or even friends that would refuse to convert and if someone left the church then they would be completely ostracized and cut off from the rest of the brethren which is an insanely powerful form of control. Some small few sects of Christianity. Still practice till this day. The brethren had an interesting perspective concerning Christianity that Catholics found revolting. All members of the congregation were considered basically completely equal in every way. They utterly denied any priestly authority whatsoever. This wasn't really a new idea. It kind of began with Martin Luther but the brethren really kicked up a notch so they they weren't really like a normal church all they didn't have pastors or elders or anything of that nature like you'd find in a modern church. Well one of the more real Christian kind of churches not zealots Real Christians. Don't judge and act like a holes to everyone that doesn't believe what they do so remember first and foremost that I'm not trying to bash any religion in any way because it can be a beautiful thing when people actually follow the teachings of Christ but curly's father sect of Christianity would probably being the like the most annoying people you'd ever meet if they were still around today to the brethren there is no middleman between God and any individual person whatsoever which was a bit too revolutionary for most Christians at the time especially in British society where everything had a hierarchy and there was a ladder of authority basically all throughout everything burs society was all about like kind of a weird caste system. Not a caste system but definitely a class system based around Tearing him or something like that. I don't know I just know that. Their culture was all about respecting people. Authority Edward Crawley would be one of the front man of the brethren churches will as one of its most influential writers. He preach all the time and give speeches frequently basically wherever he went even stopping people on the streets and trying to influence them to join the one and only true version of Christianity and if he managed to get redress than Edward would send religious pamphlets to their homes for years the brethren actually grew to become pretty big in its heyday but us in modern times. They would seem more like a bigoted narrow-minded Colt than anything else the brethren believed in the Bible word for word as literal fact. So they didn't really care about evolution or historical facts or science or basically anything of that nature to them. Anything outside of what the Bible said was just lies from Satan to try and trick people away from God so you can probably assume there wasn't any reasoning with these people in any logical way and this is the type of Christianity that elster croly was born into Edward. Croly was a charismatic order. Who would basically preached to large crowds of people in public? Everyone back then. It wasn't considered strange to preach about God on the streets and in fact a lot of people would even often stopped to listen to him back then. It wasn't considered strange to preach about God and the streets and he traveled around England to preach for the brethren so often he could tell someone's hometown was just by their dialect and that of all the Crowley's Edward would actually leave the family beer business. Edward would sell his shares to the family business out of a sense of his religious convictions. And INSTEAD REINVEST IN AMSTERDAM'S WATERWORKS. Which was actually pretty successful. Basically all the crow lease seemed to be really good at making a profit with business decisions or at least having good luck it in eighteen. Seventy four he got married to allister's mother emily who would share in her husband's fiery religious beliefs. Soon after the marriage she would get pregnant and give birth to Edward Alexander. Croly on October twelfth eighteen. Seventy five the baby that would one day be known as Alastair who Who Changed His name. Upon reaching adulthood his birth name was Edward however when he was young he was known simply as Alec which was the family nickname for him and baby. Alec was actually born with a slight deformity yet. A strange condition where his tongue was attached to the bottom of his mouth from extra skin and the doctor actually had to cut it free with a knife in order for him to develop properly. And because of this for Ulster Crawley's entire life he actually couldn't pronounce the letter R Correctly. Which is a very very little known fact. Needless to say he was quickly baptized into the brethren faith and his parents had a very direct life path. Planned out for him. With an extremely strict worldview that they'd tried to indoctrinate him into croly was actually a very very devout young man and love God Jesus in the whole Spiel yes though. He was punished harshly in the name of God constantly for sins or whatever you know eventually down the line. His father's church schism the brethren were basically divided in half one dogma believing one thing the other dogma believing another angelenos since they believed something in a slightly different manner than the opposing group had to be heretics now curly was growing up in this group of fanatical. Christians and he made a lot of friends and not only that but he grew attached to the other parents and people in the organization. One of the main things that damaged him was after the schism he wasn't allowed to talk to or interact with people. He'd grown up with for years so he lost a lot of his friends and people that he felt comfortable with all gone because his daddy said so well and you know the rest of the religious people. This had a permanent effect on cruelly. Why would the church demonize all these people who were once welcomed as brothers or almost like family like but that was just the beginning of Crowley's realization that maybe the Plymouth brethren were kind of assholes and that Christianity overall in general was just for dumb people and a form of control from his perspective? This was just the beginning of Crowley's issues though he'd already lost a whole plethora of people that he'd grown attached to unloved but at the age of Eight. They sent him off to a pretty twisted British pastime called boarding school. Where your kid would this little kid you know? Keep in mind. Little little kid sent away to be all with all strangers all-boys in a strange environment in a place where people are treated very very cruelly as a way to raise strong nobles. It was mostly just for the elite of Britain. But these things are notorious for some pretty dark stuff like Melis- station You know you name it. Just abuse basic abuse that causes trauma and he was shipped off at eight to this. And don't get me wrong. Boarding schools are much nicer now because as in the information age. There's a spotlight on everybody. So you can't go around just like beating students or allowing bullies to just completely you know. Do whatever they want to people who couldn't defend themselves all the time for fun. Let's just say it's not somewhere that you'd like to send an eight year old that you want to grow up to be. Let's say it's not a good place to send eight-year-olds curly had a horrible time in school. Like really anything you can think of. It's really much worse. And there's a lot of evidence pointing towards him being molested anyway. He was in this horrible boarding school for a while having an extremely rough childhood and at the age of eleven Edward Crowley his father died of lung cancer so there goes another person that he was extremely attached to. This was a huge turning point in Crowley's life and this is basically in his own words saying this in his journals where he described his father as my hero and my friend he really looked up to the guy he did however inherit his father's massive massive wealth.

"Alister Crowley. Now there's been a lot said about this guy. While he was alive and still after his death countless people have demonized him making him out to be some kind of insane madman was even labeled as a wickedest man in the world by the English press. He really didn't help any matters concerning his reputation either because he referred to himself as the great beasts six six six deepak elliptic antichrist's from the book of revelation in the Bible. This may just raise eyebrows in modern times. But during Crowley's age this was pretty much. I guess social suicide in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries basically ninety percent of people were either conservative or at least some kind of dominate denomination. I mean of Christians. Croly in his day was probably was essentially a modern rock star born back. In Victorian Times he was a nonconformist in a sea of conformity who relished an attack in the world views of the masses. But you'd be that. Some very valid reasons led him down this supposedly dark path just like anything. Religion can be used for both good or evil and basically anything between early in life. Curly suffered heavily from the oppressive religious dogma zealots which was the the which was the inspiration for his lifelong war against Christianity. This end his dealings with esoteric. Traditions would even lead many to calling him a satanist which after a lot of research turned out to be kind of ridiculous only people who don't really know him more. Steffi was into believe that kind of stuff he didn't even believe in any of that kind of stuff in the Christian context but it is very true that from his own point of view he saw religion is evil. Sorry let me clarify the Christian religion however I do understand why some people would call him a satanist but the whole thing reminds me of one of my favorite quotes by the Great Carl. Young thinking is difficult. That's why most people judge Elster Crowley would dedicate his wife to the study of the colts though he was also an extremely talented poet. An expert chess player and a legendary mountain climber. In fact there's a lot about the man's life that makes him extremely interesting. When I starting the research for this episode I thought he was just basically a pampered. Initially never worked a day in his life but croly actually suffered a lot of hardship and overcame insane. Odds on many occasions croly was known to be pretty hard to deal with. He never claimed to be good and indeed never really even wanted to be he would be the first to admit it in Crowley's worldview. He embraced good just as much as bad as long as it was quote strong to put it in his own words though he could also be very cruel but never for no reason curly was also very generous and kind those he admired or considered friends taking care of people and spending vast amounts of money to help them though usually not directly. He had a personal code against lending money to people. His legendary cruelty comes from the stories of his enemies for the most part of press and whatnot or other occultist or people who crossed him or at least perceived threats crossing him. There's no doubt he could be pretty. Petty and Croly was indeed capable of extremely horrible acts. He could make casually with no remorse whatsoever. Which when seen out of context makes him look like I guess pretty vile and the Gutter press had a field day in dragging his name through the mud throughout his entire lifespan. So it's no wonder that the mainstream everything has a pretty dark view of Alister Crowley but what about the man behind the public image or trade to the masses? What made someone with a genius. Level intellect like him believe in magic and dedicate his life to the colts is a lot of people. Don't really know about him. In this way. More questions than answers. Croly was also an author and even a spider and were one in his pursuit of higher knowledge and spiritual enlightenment. He would treble across basically entire world. You had a lot of money so there is no limit on what you do or where could go well for the most part justness early life. He went broke later in life in his world. Travels he'd learned the core tenets of Buddhism and become a master of Yoga like a weird version of it in fact the man would become an expert in Hinduism to among many other ancient religions. This guy's brain was really really big alister. Crowley never did anything half ass committing himself to all he did with an intense passion rarely seen in human beings. There really is no denying. The man was an incredibly gifted genius from an objective point of view. He was way way ahead of time and larger than life. I mean he could do some pretty ridiculous things. That at first seem unbelievable. I mean croly could beat people at chess with his back turned to them. You even close his eyes during it. Just visualize the board in his imagination and played with perfect accuracy. How crazy is that? It's it's pretty obvious that a lot of people who've covered Alister Crowley have taken the old saying. Never let the truth get in the White House. Go never let the truth. Get in the way of good story to heart if you watch videos on Youtube about him. There's often stereotypical creepy music in the background and many other ridiculous liberties taking with presenting his life story. So much to the point that I found most of it At least the mainstream stuff to be unreliable basically turning solely to literature in an attempt to get a clear picture of so. Let's do our best to take an objective and unbiased. Look at the man behind the myth and discover just to Alastair Crowley. What's I'm your host Tim Hacker and thanks for listening to cryptic chronicles.
