Super Bowl Bound: 49ers and Chiefs

"Did bill. We made it to the Super Bowl. You me and Jimmy Garoppolo. I feel I I may have sweat more watching the NFC championship game. That Jimmy Garoppolo actually swept playing being in the NFC championship game. Bill Barnwell is a senior football writer at ESPN and the host of the bill. Barnwell show so after two weeks Of Extremely Exciting Football Championship weekend did not disappoint niners and chiefs fans disappointed pretty much everyone else or at least anyone who wanted close close games both favorites dominated so let's start with the most dominant team the San Francisco Forty niners bill win the niners packers met earlier earlier. This season. Aaron Rodgers had one of the worst games of his career threw for one hundred and four yards. Tonight he threw for three hundred twenty six yards But the result wasn't much better. Why is that okay? So the first time these two teams played the niners won with an absolutely dominant. Pash Josh Rush Nick. Bosa and his teammates knocked down Aaron Rodgers ten times on Sunday. The only knockdown Aaron Rogers twice and while they did hold them without a first down conversion in the first half both of those games the packers movable pretty consistently I should say after after halftime instead the forty niners otherworldly in a different way on Sunday they ran the ball forty two times for two hundred eighty five yards and four. We're touchdowns averaging nearly seven yards per carry to put that in context. ESPN has a stat called expected. Points with measures how each play impacts team's James Chances of scoring on a given the forty niners racked up the second most rushing. EPA for any team in a game this season and and the most for any single team in a playoff game over the last decade just narrowly beating out the prior record holder. which just happened to be the forty niners? Twenty wanting twelve playoff win over. The Green Bay Packers would Colin Kaepernick. Ran For one hundred. Eighty one rushing yards. So they're leading rusher tonight. I was not Colin Kaepernick. It was re Moster who ran for two hundred and twenty yards by himself. were good has hat trick the first half of the NFC championship game deserves a hat trick of field grade baby bill. Will I am guessing. A decent amount of football fans hadn't heard Ramos before tonight. Okay so you mustard is basically it accident accident in football terms but it's such a cool story so the Shanahan offense has a history of unearthing obscure running back and turning them into stars going back to Mike Shanahan stays in Denver but even among those backs most particularly remarkable case. Liners did everything they could to find a different running back over the past a couple of years. They hand picked a runner who they traded up to nab in the two thousand seventeen draft never played a game for the team. They signed Jerick McKinnon Torres. ACL He's collected more than and twenty one million dollars for the niners without ever playing a single game for the team. This offseason they added. Kevin Coleman from the Falcons who suffered an injury in the first half and that opened up the door from western and most of its story is easy to root for. You heard him talk about it. After the biggest game of his life on Sunday crazy that I've been on seven. Different teams actually still have cut dates every before every game a look at the dates when I got cut not everybody can can deal. Would that type of stressing the pain and agony I went through. I kept the faith to not only myself but whoever gave me the opportunity is organization has done a great job most are made the niners roster as a special teamer at first but after he looked good in limited time last season they gave him a three year extension after playing. Well this season most are just became the first running back. NFL history to top two hundred rushing yards and scored four rushing touchdowns in a single game. That's never happened in the playoffs playoffs before pretty good for a guy who was really an afterthought until the two thousand eighteen season. What's just remarkable? Bill is those two hundred twenty rushing yards. Were nearly three times as many yards as Garoppolo the night as quarterback past for which made for a remarkable stat sheet. There was a point in this football game where according to ESPN stats and Info. Jimmy went ninety four minutes in real time without attempting a pass so I have to ask going into the Super Bowl. Is that a sustainable offensive approach. I mean we all had that friend and in our twenties who got by succeeded solely because they were good looking right now that friend is Jimmy. Garoppolo I mean in the divisional round. He barely through through the football in the conference championship game. He barely through the football. We saw a similar situation with Ryan. Tannehill right over the first two weeks of his post. The season and when Tennessee ran into an offensive juggernaut with the chiefs their offense with Danny Hillis not able to accelerate into a higher gear. Now of course Garoppolo is the one who has to face the chiefs unless the forty niners can shut down the Kansas City. Passing game with their pass rush which isn't out of the question they're going to need to throw the football more quite a bit more. We've seen the niners succeed in games or Garoppolo and to throw the ball at ton with the Saints Win. Maybe as a notable for example but since Garoppolo through that interception against the Vikings in the divisional round cow Shanahan has called seventy one runs against just twelve passes passes even if the niners do end up throwing the ball effectively against the chiefs. It's clear that Shanahan doesn't WANNA put the game on Garoppolo shoulders unless absolutely necessary and that in itself is telling throughout the game bill packers fans were frustrated. Understand police and they seem to be taking out some of their wrath on the coaches arguing. They should have devised better game. Plans to both run the ball more and stop the run and do you think there's anything that Matt Leflore or the Packers Defensive Coordinator Mike Patton could have done differently in this game. Yeah I think so I think to be fair. Shanahan might just ask pedants number. It just felt like you is several steps ahead of the packers defensive coordinator and when pen and tried to adjust it just never seemed to catch up and work there. There was one play I think in the second quarter was a microcosm of everything that went wrong for the packers in this game. They came out in their nickle package with five defensive backs against the forty niners base. He's too back offense which created the size mismatch. The niners pitched the Baltimore and not only did he have a huge hole but he made both safeties with on their tackle attempts downfield win for about thirty yards. pedants struggled to put his players in positions where they could succeed and meanwhile leflore didn't coach like a guy who was a seven point underdog. The packers punted. I believe on their first drive on fourth and one from the fifty yard line. We know the packers are enormously more effective offense with Aaron Aaron Jones on the field but the floor still Jamal Williams their backup running back. Play over thirty percent of the offensive snaps and he didn't really take advantage of move the niners movement Richard Sherman. That was really fascinating during the regular season for the niners and during the vast majority of his time in Seattle Sherman signed up for almost every every snap asked the left cornerback. Defense playing against the right side of the offense. The niners started the game on Sunday. Which chairman on the opposite side of the field on the right side of the defense on the left side of the offense against devante items and while Sharon didn't travel to the left side very frequently? He did do it a few times during the first half. The second half Adams was able to be isolated Sherman over the top for a huge play downfield. I think that played about half of his snaps on either side of the field. I would have liked to have seen for trying to isolate him against German a little more often and take his chances with

"Finally that truth comes out on Aaron Rogers, come on, Colin you, not by all this. This is revisionist history. And I'm not saying that there were some issues the guy who got away scot-free in. This piece is Ted Thompson GM who didn't go out and get enough defense to help era Rogers you've got to admit that. Yeah. No. If you've if you've noticed in the last two to half years since Ted Thompson laughed. They've drafted defense agent defense, and they keep it all those bad defensive coordinators around. So all I'm saying is when you pull the cover back. Colin for most teams of most great teams or Iconex situations. This plenty of pimples, and and stuff that you look at and go, oh my God look out terrible. No one that didn't win one that didn't happen. But even teams that have won. They've had these things in the back. Not think it's over the top this whole notion that McCarthy should've been gone years ago. Let me see you wanna talk about what he did in Green Bay. How many coaches would a quarterback went to eight straight playoff? You wanna take a look at the list? Take a look at the list and the list of stellar legendary was what it does coach Valla attack. Bella check, all sh. No Walsh wasn't on that list. And I think we have the list and the other one is Chuck, no. So those are the only three coaches and McCarthy, you wanna know two coaches off on that list Shula par cells mad saying when you look at the stretch with era Rogers to act like they weren't joy anything or they didn't get enough done. I mean, that's an incredible list. What about all this Erin stuff though, freezing out people holding a grudge since two thousand five looks very petty stuff is petty. And you know what? Sometimes you get that. When you deal with people who are, you know, like what's the right word when your bed at smarter than everybody. But when you're prodigy a when you wanted guys sometimes people like that or a little off center. Would you think I think you could make an argument? He he's a good looking guy Aaron super smart, he gets frost. He doesn't suffer. Fools gladly. He gets very frustrated with people. So I. That that's a fair. But Tom, Tom Brady's probably not a prodigy in terms of talent. He's he's a combination of things. So I think that there's a combination. And don't forget to Aaron Rodgers who was passed over on draft day came into the league pretty angry. You know, what a lot of people and held that against people. Because now we look at him and say skill set wise, he might be greatest wherever to a football on just saying some of the stuff in Green Bay and the underachieving sums on Aaron too. Okay. But you also some, but most is on the coaches staff and GM from this point Colin look at the game that they they're they're an on side kick away. Right. When Bostick remember the tight end. Yeah. Got an away Jordy Nelson. Yeah. That would have been another trip to the Super Bowl. Remember the running twenty sixteen ever Rogers finished the season with like twenty two touchdowns at no picks. They go to Atlanta and defense gives a forty four points. There's nothing Aaron Rodgers could do not totally. Exonerating? I'm those moments out dental Tom Brady other than that Super Bowl where they gave up all those points to the eagles, although Super Bowl all those playoff appearances Aaron Rodgers defense gave up over forty poise like three or four times saying he's he's it's all air. And I do think I think the stuff where you know. Mark Murphy's like don't be the problem with a new guy acknowledging we're over some of your diva stuff, we're kind of over some of it. Okay. If you to line up with a rookie. Hey, coach who's been head coach. NFL? To attack. You know, what I mean like to do that? Whatever doesn't make any sense to me because this is the one thing that people have to be honest about every year, despite even Abed defenses that they had they will always in the mix and always had a chance they won that division almost every year. I mean in a lot of it was on the back of Aaron Rodgers could they didn't have a good defense. Let me shift to this story out Brian win horse. Lebron struggling even recruit stars to his movie Space Jam to have we reached a tipping point where the chosen one has elevated himself so far culturally above NBA players that he's no longer attractive to play or be part of. I definitely could see that. I mean, even I think LeBron has because I think people have seen the act for a long time now, and LeBron's not that guy anymore. He might get twenty seven eight, but it doesn't have the same in. Impact that used to? Well, yeah, he's not defensively. He mailed a season. Right. And I think also people look at them and go, okay. Yeah. He dictated this move to LA really came here to to get his Hollywood stuff going, and he's an aging superstar that showed his age and LeBron has always been the one he gets all the weeks, all the benefits and the rewards. And when things don't go, right. See he doesn't have any help. See the other guys need to go to coach they need to go. Kevin love is. No, good KYW. We this cut. So people have watched that for years, and they're like, listen, we know the game LeBron they win. He gets it. You lose you get and I said it's air date. Lebron has been seeking power. Lebron guys have been seeking power for twelve years. They got it got all of it and power turned a lot of people off. Absolutely. And especially when the way that Anthony Davis thing went down. It was a bad. Look from the idea that he was willing. Andy. Even flirting. Remember AD was on his barbershop show. And he wanted to play with him. He was very public with that that you want to play yeti at teammates a niche trying to make the playoffs, you know, slash Sunday in the LA times the calendar section LeBron as he announced he wasn't playing in the calendar section in the optics reme-. Lebron would stop which stop just for an hour. Let's get back into basketball the seasons. We're in the season. Do this the minute after the finals, and then spent four months to and all this stuff. And that that was the other problem people thought he had and let's face let's probably has more projects than the Lakers have wins. And nobody would have imagined, you know, coming into this year. We thought they were going to be a forty five win. Exactly. By the way, executive said, what do you make this quote magic has destroyed the place that seems a little extreme even for me. That's extreme. It seems to me destroyed. I would say that has he made some missteps, absolutely. And I told you this before starting with the Paul George assuming remember the Paul George thing. The fact they didn't get an interview says a law. It's not great. And then right? And so you so so you start there. And now look at where they are. This was supposed to be what Colin a look see year. Right. Nobody expected them the win anything. So halfway through a panic and go we need AD. We need AD white now and that blew up in their face. They still should've made the playoffs. They shouldn't have put all those names out there. All those guys they got to be professional. No one someone tells you. Nobody's any good. And we're willing to give all you guys right here right now this oppose a rally around and play for guy. No. I thought magic was too glib. When magic said, hey, if you're a pro you gotta deal with these rumors. It's like time out, man. Gic your magic nobody ever wanted to trade mad exact easy to say, you gotta get used to this stuff. Nobody's ever want. Everybody wants to be with magic. Nobody ever wants to get rid of magic. So and Colin his other. Okay. They just don't have if they don't get a big star. How are you going to trade the players who banged up an.

Did Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy deserve to get fired?

"Is not to say that Mike McCarthy didn't deserve to be a head. Coach is not to say that he did a terrible job because he did it. He's proven to be a good coach. And it may very well be that he deserves to be someplace else. I'm certainly not gonna sit up here and say that Mike McCarthy doesn't deserve to be a head coach in the league as long as Jason Garrett, and Marvin Lewis is still head coaches in the league, I'm not gonna do that. I'm not gonna do that. Especially Marvin Lewis. These Jason gave wanna play off game is more than I can say for Marvin Lewis hasn't wanna play off game sixteen years, Mike McCarthy's a Super Bowl champion. I think that ultimately the indictment against Mike McCarthy is very very simple, ladies and gentlemen. When you are coaching. Arguably the greatest talent we have ever seen at the quarterback position in NFL history. You gotta have more than one Super Bowl championship in more than one Super Bowl appearance to show for it. You have to have that Mike because he didn't have that. You can't have Arron Rogers questioning the play calling. You can't have him chagrined over the personnel. That surrounding him ask why that's the biggest defense that I have for Mike McCarthy. He he isn't the only one that needs to needed to go. I think I don't have any problem with Mark Murphy, the presidency yo for the Green Bay Packers going. I mean, you don't wanna had Ted Thompson up in there as a GM before you put. We assign them to consultants position. Brian Khuda Kint good a cancer. We don't know what he's capable of. He clearly wants to move into different direction and have his own guy. That's fair enough. But under Mike are under under a Murphy, you had a regime that did not respect ariza's enough. Didn't show him the courtesy and respect you deserve. You got rid of the quarterbacks. Coach alexan- pelt. You didn't even consult with Andrew with Rogers. How do you have a quarterback coach and not consult with Amer Rogers before letting him go? How do you do that? How do you do that? I remember one time I was told Aaron Rodgers walked into their office. They told him to get the hell out shut up. You play. We run organization. That's how this works really, really. I want to walk around here and act like you know, what Aaron Rodgers listen. He's not having a greatest year. Yeah. Absolutely. Right. He's not in that. Absolutely. Right. Eras is not having the greatest year. Nobody's gonna make that defense. He's not gonna make that defensible himself. He ain't blind. He could see understands, but we're talking about eras who will who will saunter who will cruise into the hall of fame first ballot without question. And gentlemen, Aaron Rodgers has twenty one touchdowns and just one interception on this season. And that's a down year for him. That's how lethal he is. That's how great he is. We are talking about a man with a career ninety eight and fifty five and one record. We are talking about a man, then it's completed sixty four point eight percent of his passes. First career. We are talking about a man that has done this at the frozen tundra lamb Lambeau Field for his career, and he is still passing over forty two thousand yards. We are talking about a man that's exceeded. What some would label top-five quarterback in NFL history who's passed over seventy thousand yards and Brett farve. And nobody would tell you that bradfo was better than that Rogers. That's how great Aaron Rodgers is. That's how great Aaron Rogers has been. And so guess what? If he's not feeling a coach, if he's not happy, or whatever the case may be you better pay attention.

Aaron Rodgers' estranged brother rips QB after wildfire donation

"However, then all of a sudden this this guy, Jordan Rogers gets on social media in starts blasting Aaron Rodgers the SEC network. Analysts took exception to his brother's quote unquote act accusing the Green Bay Packers quarterback of king lacking compassion for his family. So against Jordan Rogers is on the SEC network. He's an analyst. And of course, we all know that Aaron Rodgers is the quarterback for the Green Bay Packers. So we know the Jordan says that you know, he and Aaron I guess they've had a falling out. He says, please donate spread awareness and send love Jordan tweeted in response to errands social media campaign video, but and this is where it gets a little a little dicey. He says, but when your mom is home alone during fires in car packed and ready to evacuate, and you missed the fundamental first step of compassion. Calling your parents to make sure they're safe everything else. Just feels like an act. And that's what Jordan did. So you got Aaron Rogers says saying that he's going to pledge a million bucks and trying to help people there with the California wildfires, and and so then Jordan tweeted his response back to Aaron. And of course, all the other folks on social media. So this is all a bunch of family garbage in and we see this all the time, whether it is a family's going after each other or celebrities going after each other we've seen you know, spouses and girlfriends and boyfriends taking each other out on Twitter and social media. I'm gonna goes on and on Facebook is another one you post on somebody's time line, and you can put something real nasty up there or something personal. You know? Hey, why are you cheating on me or whatever it is? You could be the post that on somebody's time line. And so one of the things that I've noticed with social media is there there just seems to be this lack of decorum these days. Now, they good social media is a big part of that. Now, the story points out, and this is from FOX four one one the Rogers family drama has been a public debacle since Jordan aired their dirty laundry during his appearance on season twelve of the bachelorette in two thousand sixteen revealing that Aaron had been in strange from his parents in rarely contacted them. Well, you know, my two cents on this would be and I made these speaking out of turn.

Brett Favre: 'Mike McCarthy is an excellent coach'

"Brett farve came out in support of Mike McCarthy this week. Oh. La pressure on Aaron Rodgers earned. Unlike him Brett says he is an excellent coach that might hurt. The I think Mike is is an excellent coach they have to win. And I think when and hurry or something may happen there earns playing outstanding. And really keeping them in games. Their defense is really at times looking really good opportunistic aggressive, but I don't see that. I see a lot of potential. I just think that they're underachieving little bit right now. Okay. Of course farve connects with Mike McCarthy, first of all the personalities old school. Little stubborn their cut from the same cloth. The other thing is McCarthy saved Forbes career Mike Sherman was a bad NFL coach Green Bay was four and twelve McCarthy came in and turned it around in two years. They went eight an eight and then went thirteen and three. So, of course, farve loves him. He read I'd love a boss to if he resurrected my career ours loves him. The second thing is never forget this McCarthy use. Used to be in San Francisco and his Greg Jennings. Told us the former Packer he didn't love Aaron Rodgers coming out of college. The thing about Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy that people miss sometimes who's the number one overall pick the year Aaron Rogers came out Alex Smith who was his offense coordinator, Mike McCarthy. And it would just be so random in Aaron we'll take a shot at Mike like, oh, yeah. Like how you picked Alex Smith. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. So listen farve is gonna love McCarthy. Same personality cut from the same clause resurrected his career. And there's no question that Aaron Rodgers is a different dude. The McCarthy he inherits McCarthy McCarthy is farve guy and McCarthy wants passed on him. I I'm not a grudge holder. But I don't forget stuff, I forgive. And I don't forget about I'm not a grudge holder. But if Aaron Rodgers is like can come guy. He's right McCarthy's kind of afar of guy and so. Farve comes out and says I love Mike McCarthy. I totally get it completely absolutely explainable. I do think McCarthy and Rogers twelve years in time for divorce. There are always hear horror stories about bad divorces McCarthy will get under job, Aaron we get a more progressive offensive mind. It will all be good Aaron have after this year. Another good for years. I'll be last physically Khalil Mack twice a year. Biking's defense twice a year. But Aaron's going to have an ice for years after this year. They're not gonna make the playoffs this year.

Aaron Rogers to donate a million dollars to wildfire relief efforts in North California

"Rogers says he's donating a million dollars to wildfire relief efforts in northern California announced it in a video on Twitter just moments ago. I forgot that's where he's from. Wow. I thought he was a mid west dude because it's been Green Bay so long but his hometown Chico is in Butte county, which has been hard hit by those by those fires I feel I don't know. I feel a lot of these charitable social media drives from athletes that we see a lot of we don't always see their own money being put up and this is a doodoo who's putting up seven figures. You know, that's a that's a number that gets your attention a million dollars. I some other athlete just donated one hundred thousand I can't recall who that's a great thing. But. A million is is terrific. So many athletes live out there. And some have, you know, tweeted about losing homes and and stuff like that. You know, that's that's the best. Use of celebrities is when you have the financial wherewithal to really make an impact like that in you You know, know, I. I saw lady Gaga whose lives out there. You know, visiting a firehouse and and spending time with first responders and anytime celebrity can really lend themselves or their money to a great. 'cause I think it's really meaningful. I think. Yeah. Well, it's going to have some very real impact. It's so much of that goes directly to the resources that are needed to not only corral the fires which only about seventy percent contained right now in northern California. But also with the rebuild which is gonna be so massive once they get going. I'll we're gonna have Greg Candice Buckner for the Washington Post coming up at eleven o'clock here on ESPN radio. She has been as plugged in his anyone to the miserable failure. But also entertaining dumpster fire that the Washington Wizards have been so far this season. Although I think she's going to tell us at least I'm gonna ask just hell far back. This goes, I refuse to believe that this is something that's bubbled up over the last. I. Of the season or thereabouts. And it's just when I say she's plugged in. I mean, she's plugged in from, you know, the pen and paper dot com side as opposed to Steven A who went down, and sort of sort of made sure that he was face to face with some of these protagonists and antagonists in the story. But I listen, the wizards are probably as close as I get to NBA fandom not like Mike with his Cleveland Cavaliers, but like I'm super plugged in to the contracts in plugged in just plugged into the fire Ernie chance now like, and it's just I'm dying to know some of

"Aaron Rogers as he called timeout did not call it without a little bit of angst. Let's face it. Two of the best offenses in football to two of the best quarterbacks of all time. They each bird time out here early in the second half atypical for both teams. And what was it? You were talking about in the pre game with both of these quarterbacks. They demand perfection not only from themselves. But from everyone around them, you know, they're frustrated when that kind of stuff happens things that they can't control because they're both perfectionists drive them crazy in when you talk to their teammates, and coaches, they try to control everything they possibly get so burning a timeout burns Rogers, I down ten at the seven yard line Williams to his left as he lines up in the gun. Rogers gets the shotgun. Snap quick toss. To the tight end. Mercedes Lewis who spins around at the ten yard line started to lose his footing. And so just took his big frame and fell forward to the twelve yard line of pickup a five. He's one of the better blocking tight ends in football. He was a former first round pick by the Jags. But really his niche became. A premium block or any in his thirteenth year in the NFL because of that. And that's his first catch up the year. Reinforces the point in game. Eight for Green Bay. Second down and five of the twelve yard line Rogers in the gun Williams to his right? On second and five Williams will get to carry on a delayed. Handoff tries to pick his way up the middle between the hashes and Williams backs. His way near the seventeen yard line. Looks to me like he's going to be stopped about a half yard short. Mike of that first down to bring a third and a half yard for Green Bay. Really run the mall physically today. Seventy one rushing yards for Jones five carries rather? Six carries. Thirty one yards for Jamal Williams. And it is indeed third and a half yard for the first. Packers are six for six this year coming into play on either third or fourth down with a yard to go. So they've been very good in this role. They'll stack to backs in the backfield to the right of Rogers in the gun Cobb motioning the slot right side on third down and a half yard play action Rogers walls right throws down the right sideline jumped wildly thing. Up its belt as scant Ling who pulls it in at the thirty nine yard line. That's a heck of a catch by scant.

"Com. Probably the best game on the board. Here. The AFC championship game rematch. Patriots either minus or I've seen pick them as well at Jacksonville is Leonard fournette going to play. Jalen Ramsey been talking. A lot of joke about gronk this week. Yeah. If there's if there's one team you don't want to antagonize. It's it's the New England Patriots. I mean, we've seen them come out with chips on their shoulders before and and back it up. So I'm not sure exactly what's going on there. I do think there's going to be one of the tougher defenses at the patriots pace play this week. They have the the easiest schedule in terms of defenses that they faced for the for the entire season. So this is really one of the few tests that they have on the docket. You know, I think Jacksonville, Jacksonville, certainly has everything that you need. We talked about this secondary before. I mean you talking about Ramsey Ramsey one of the best cover corners in the game. Their pass rushers great. I'm not quite sure about Vernet, but Yeldan did a good job in his place. I'm not sure how much they lose their on. This is gonna be interesting. I actually like Jack Jaguars and the points. I do think that they can they can eke out a win in this match up. Tom Brady of New England Patriots says his priorities are same as Bill Belichick's

"There has been a lot made about the potential for their being tension between Tom Brady and Bill Belichick ESPN reported late last season. There was friction between the two because the Brady's connections with trainer, Alex Guerrero this morning Brady had missed, say, I'm w. e. e. I about has relationship with Bella shit quote. I think our priorities are the same that they've always been, and I think that's why we get along. So, well, we're here to win. It's been a very professional environment he's created on. I think I'm very lucky to be in that environment. I think he's the best coach, whoever coached in the NFL and I feel very privileged to kind of be mentor by him as long as I have.

"You can hear every preseason game every regular season game and let's hope every postseason game right, here on the flagship and speaking of Panthers panther talk the official radio program of the Panthers every Monday night from six. To seven, here on WBZ and opening up the show, last night Eugene Robinson mixing Jim Zogby talking about, that that side story coming out of buffalo, this week the news of the weekend, where, Kelvin. Benjamin the former Carolina panther says some things Jim whoa what did he say? And how would you describe the Panthers reaction to it so Kelvin Benjamin in a nutshell said that he wished somebody other than the Panthers had drafted him earlier in his career, and that he had played with a quarterback like Aaron Rogers or ally manning or Ben Rothlisberger basically naming three future hall of famers and ripped our quarterback while. Doing. So so that was it it was an interview with the Atlantic and why he chose to take that. Route I don't know Eugene just I didn't feel like when. He was here even after he left it there was animosity or bad blood that k b, and the team but there's gotta be some hurt feelings over that's the Panthers credit their reaction when Ashley Greg Olsen and. Some other, players about it was either to say nothing, coach Ribeira did an address it or players Greg, Olsen who just said well hopefully focused on, his team buffalo and grasp that but, kinda, came. "Of your life step set you and your future generations up and maybe go to the best team uh and i really thought that the vikings would not be one of the teams that would be in play for kirk cousins but maybe they are and you're talking about a team with the number one ranked defense they had a decent run again without salva cook this past year know they have all the pieces in place that are really really interesting and maybe that's the idea maybe we'll see bridgewater ready for one more here but let's see if with go all of with kirk doesn't just been on this very show hear about scoop kirk cousins is how good is key agreed that he's going to be overpaid i mean and that's a relative term because of the economics of the game but how do you think kirk cousins is how good has he did in the last three years as a starter with washington redskins well look you write about the overpay think that is a completely uh affleck's the point because you're you're worthless someone's willing to pay you got that's what your value is whatever stuff is going to give you that's what you're willing to that's what's your value is uh i think he's a pretty good quarterback do i think he's tom brady your aaron rogers are no but do i think he might be in that next level of quarterbacks absolutely you know a lot of people expect the didn't drop off this year when he lost two thousand santa's flight received tight and it was because for most of the year and read and does you good the running game was sporadic he's still played pretty well but the washington redskins look for whatever reason they decided a long time ago th the washington and was not gonna make a longterm commitment took her cousins and maybe they'll be honest about that uh once he's gone uh but the the the idea that he's not worthy of being considered the top quarterback at three h in free agency and maybe maybe uh one of the top quarterbacks ever to be available free agency i think is is kind of ludicrous that the numbers speak for themselves what he's done over the last three or four years that doesn't tell you that he's going to be a hall of famer and do.

"So can you believe it's been was it twelve years in the nfl with the packers for aaron rogers 10 years really as aaron rodgers right you know but but twelve years total i'm starting to wonder you that are they wasting aaron rodgers prime will he he has won championship and i know how hard it is to win a championship dan marino never one one bread far of one one man it's hard to win championships i get that but you look it aaron rodgers and you can make a very compelling argument that he is the most gifted the best quarterback in the national football league come on every year it's thirty plus tvs verses you know six seven interceptions he makes plays that that are just ludicrous how good he is uh his ability to throw off platform to extend the play to just evisceration your defense from the pocket to scramble around and make plays to me he's the most talented he's the best quarterback football amine brady may be the greatest quarterback of all time but right now aaron rogers in his skill set the best quarterback in football arm strength all the different things that he does accuracy you name it the guy is the guy is next level he's off the charts and have one championship to go to the super bowl one time in in that time frame um yeah you i mean i dunno where do you point blamed you blame aaron rodgers do you blame ted thompson you know who's put in the team together me what are you look at we look at the green bay packers and say what's what's the issue there because you've got arguably and you've had the best quarterback and league for the last eight straight years and you've got into one championship is it the failure to use free agency.

"That here a played out and then it becomes very interesting the the first two months of next year can the redskins bliley work out a deal with cudgels because if they don't then the forty nine or is it a poker game they've got the bigger back in making you that that basically shape the redskins out of the running it they really do want kirklands let me ask you this straight up i mean a again i understand the connection with shanahan and all that stuff is cousins that good i mean where you would just say that's the face of our franchise we'll just wait for him i mean he's that tom brady not aaron rogers is not a hit out drew brees is he that good though that you would put all your eggs in his basket i i tallied up in the wind and allotted to starter uh you know i think he could start at one started a rookie and then he really became a fulltime starter in 2014 um it added up to nineteen twenty two in one uh aalto not even if not even at five hundred editor so um that my opinion that no i don't i do not think that he wore the money that we're talking about that will that will take two nine in a knack then the big issue inside the redskins organisation they like kirk cutter they're not in love with kirk hutton and they don't feel like he's war uh beyond that huge countless gallery cap that would go to him now at palestinian believe that he can squeeze more out of cousin dan gouden in con the today and those guy pab in washington that the question he willie it never then in a position to answer that question because it would be concluded tampering if he did uh i thought what he said when he perked would hired with the forty nine and that there are two elite quarterback at any moment in time in the nfl in everything else you're just kind of looking for a guy who can get the job done um yeah i i have a hard time thinking that pal kenny and believe that kirk cousin is one of those seven um and you know that that would make it really interesting their their final record next year will make it in creating do they have a shot at a fan darnall door i got howen or one or.
