It's the only thing I like. Interact is Turkey. That's it? Are you talking to anybody? Or you're telling the audience are you throwing it to somebody on what they're having for? I believe in the front end. I said I will go to Chris here in a second, and I informed them that I was getting a turkey wrap. But then it was done. And that was the cue for Krista Starr. Okay, but you didn't actually go to Chris. Let me do it again. That's guys guys, It's pendant. Come on, we'll be doing instead Lasso this. It's all take a deep Braga job was a mistake. It's hard. Why would we do that? I want to do this for months. I want to do two songs just waiting on hold over the weekend. When we're not even here, just waiting for us on Monday, 786456 43 7. We don't get this many chances itself. Florida like this is the thing in sports that people love TTO have the hope of a young quarterback coming in is our next decade going to be good enough, Or is it going to get swallowed whole by Aaron Donald in a quarter and a half. I saw that Howie Long is now saying how we long is putting Aaron Donald in the class of Lawrence Taylor, Reggie White, Dion Sanders, Best defensive player. That he's ever seen and best at the position. Even his Cortez Kennedy, one of defensive player of the year for a team that didn't win very much in Seattle wins that team have here two wins, Dolls, Bedouins and he was one of those guys that were in the middle. He wants to and fight. They went to 1 14 with Cortez Kennedy is the defensive player of the year. I believe so, Yeah. I think Ma's Garrett might actually be a tunnel might be the best football player in the league, and he might not win Defensive player of the year because Miles Garrett was on. I think statistically, the worst or one of the worst defenses is on pace for 20 sacks is here. So how long put Aaron Donald there? But that's I mean, why wouldn't he be there? Oh, I just I haven't heard a lot of people doing that. Because of the respect they have generally for previous greatness. We rarely do that. You've got When did we ever do that? While Tom Brady's been playing long enough to get it were rarely watching a guy and saying as he's doing it, this is the greatest I've ever seen that doesn't we wait until years later, we criticize them while they're coming up. We criticize them. We put every action under a microscope. We don't give these guys the joy of the greatest ever While we're watching it. That one usually just happens. In retrospect, I feel like we all did it pretty quickly with Patrick Mahomes. I'm in. A lot of people were saying he's the greatest I've ever seen pretty quickly, but we see excellence in position all the time. And we know what to gauge it again Defensive tackle for you to dominate a game that's for us not no coaching backgrounds haven't played the game for to jump off the screen. While you're watching television at that position. It's obviously special. I don't know about you guys. Okay, because I've been marveling at the televised product of the NFL. That reminds me on Lee when they pan out that there's no one there. Because I forget I'm watching these games and they're so well produced that If you don't go into the stands, I will absolutely forget. That there are no fans there. It's been amazing, but one of the things that it is crystallized for me. I guess we kind of knew it already. The savagery of blind play two gods When you look at the physicality of these human beings, Aaron Donald isn't even big for that position. Aaron Donald is small for that. Position. So when I'm watching this Hicks guy from Chicago, I'm like, how does anyone block that like that's a fast an unbelievably strong and when it gets momentum and is feeling menacing, how what are you supposed to do against that? And Aaron Donald is a good deal better than that. Well, I've heard opponents say Has the offensive lineman say he is the quickest jump off the snap that they've ever seen. He's just jumping. Warren Sapp would slither through double teams with quickness, but I've never seen anything like that dude and Uh, we're gonna take a month of calls after he ends up in Donald two ends up in Donald belly, he asserted 11 show on ESPN radio..

"I don't know what my answer to that because Look, I think that was candid and forthright with the things he said yesterday about about being open minded, that if he struggles persist, you're gonna have to find a way to do something. Get this offense in black but also knowing what I know about Matt over three seasons is how much he is a bit of a control freak and likes to do things exactly the way he likes to do things. It's very difficult for those personality types to suddenly say here, take the steering wheel and you drive this thing and and I just don't know personality wise, whether it would be easy for him. To make that confession and make that move. And so I don't think that is coming any time soon. As much as we talk about it much if he acknowledges that it must be a topic of conversation. I just don't know that if push comes to shove, he's got to be willing to do that. We've had some very angst ridden conversations recently, including the last day and a half and I feel like I have to, at times. Just like people know out there that we understand their five into, but we've been talking about these issues for quite some time, and they have been re Elish use. So, Dan, they are five into the offense has been atrocious when you Put it all into your football calculator and you try to come to some sort of terms with what you feel about this team in a big picture perspective, where you at with them. Worried, extremely worried. I was really excited for Monday night's game because I thought it was the exact kind of test that this team in this offense needed to take. And I said that multiple forums just because I thought that that defense the way the Rams play the way that they come with different pressures the way that they can have a premiere pass rushers like Aaron Donald matched up with the premier corner that could take the best receiver out of the game, and Jalen Ramsey. I was going to force you to be at your best to stay in that football game. But bears couldn't pass that test. And so now you look at this with all the struggles that we've talked about since November of 2018 that continue to persist and you say what's going to change that and if nothing's going to change that, then you're staring down this possibility that five and one quickly becomes Five and three this weekend, perhaps quickly could become five before you could quickly see this cushion that you built for yourself. Go away. And now if this season ends in a situation where you don't make the playoffs That's a major worry. I think the bigger worry, though, guys, and I think this is where Ah lot of Chicago is feeling this sort of emotional conflict lately. Is that the worst thing that could happen For this organization is to go 10 and six and 11 5 with no direction offensively, no direction at quarterback, no direction that get you any closer to the ultimate goal of winning a Super Bowl, but yet allows everyone to keep their jobs for another year. And so you're sort of stuck. In Chicago, trying to figure out what exactly are you rooting for? And what exactly is the ultimate goal? I think a lot of people are struggling with that. That's why the emotions are where they are The big debate that Waddle and I have been having here in the last 24 hours is if they start five and one in Finnish, nine and seven. You know, in the last 10 games and like a lovey type finish, where there were seven in one, and then they finish 10 and six and they're going to the post. What's that? No, I'm saying part of your theory. I mean, in 97 are they still get into the post within that with all the good teams in the NFL, So our big debate Dan has been Will there be major changes, whether it be with the general manager or the coach? What I know. Tommy talked about this that you have this different factor here in the cold of the bureau where the organization is losing money this year, Right? There's a lot of revenue stream that have gone away because there's not a butt in a seat. And then the home games and all the other things that come with this. So now you have to make Financial decision that may be different than you would have had last year. Now, if you're just looking at this from the football perspective, I really tried hard to push George McCaskey at the end of last season to tell us what he was looking for in 2020 to believe that this thing was pointed in the right direction, pushing course first down from one of the things That, he said was he wanted to see whether 2018 was the anomaly or whether 2019 was the anomaly. He thinks that the 2018 years that 1 12 games and were thought by everyone on the first weekend of January to be a legitimate Super Bowl contender is the real bears. We all lived through 2019 and realized a Nate gives you a lot of reasons to question this. And so the other thing that George said coming out of last season what he was very, very interested to see whether the collaborative troubleshooting efforts between Matt Maggie and Ryan case in determining what was causing all these failures in the struggles could lead them in a direction that gets them closer to being that 12 and 14. Well, in your scenario, it's 97. You just spent two years trying to fix your offense and you've done nothing but stay in place. Spinning your tires in the bud. I don't know how you could stick with that situation. Meeting toe start over a quarterback most likely needing toe figure out what scheme you want to run, needing to find more personnel. Every single position to make the team a championship contender is really really difficult discussions they're gonna have to be had. The good news is we still get another nine regular season games to see where the team can take? What? What have you seen? Let's let's talk about it. You know what if What leads you to believe that there is a chance that the offense could Show some life and some significant improvement. I don't see it. I'm not betting on it. In fact, I'm picking the Saints just for the record this weekend. I'll believe it when I see it, But how do you feel about it, Dan? All right. So do you. Do you want the optimistic view? Or do you want the realistic because I can give you both. And I'm happy to do that. I want what's in their heart. Mr. I want to know what's in your heart. What's in your football? Heart? You know, you know, I don't do things with my heart. I do things with my with your practicality and my reason and my eyes and my eye. Tell me that this offense isn't getting any better. No matter what they try, and my eyes are telling me that The advantages of turning the nick hold that I thought would be there and as far as not making sort of Dr killing mistakes. Have not happened The way I thought it would happen. I thought Nick would would would be a guy that wouldn't make the intersections where you roll over and attorney go. What in the world with that? What was that? What was you doing? The one in Carolina I've mentioned was one of the The worst picks that I've seen covering this another one of them in that game, too. And this one Monday night, you know, not as bad as the one in Carolina, but still when you're down there in the red zone, and you got a chance to live to see another down either Gotta put that ball to the outside shoulder. Mounir, you gotta put it in the fourth row seats. And when, when you kill a drive with a decision making steak like that, as a veteran who is basically in the huddle because your experience and your vision and your ability to make good decisions are your strength that just can't happen. And so that's What worries me is there's just not a lot of answers automatically. We know the conversation we had about about Matt in terms of his occasional infatuation with plays over playmakers. And now you've got a quarterback that has very little time to operate back. There doesn't have the athleticism and my ability to give you those ad Libs play that Mitch might have gotten you when things break down, and now you're just you're in really bad shape and oh, by the way, you're starting center made miss this week's game against the same. Your best receiver is in concussion protocol, and I don't know like there's little I can look at Right now, on October 28th and tell you Yes, there's obvious signs that this thing's going to turn a corner because everything tells you that it's not if you have a question for Dan Wiederer from the Tribune, who covers the Chicago Bears 3323776 When we come back down, I want to ask you the question. Does everyone know Mitch Travis Key? An apology? Maybe not a full apology. Good sort of a half apology That's coming up next.

"Impacting and helping improving the quality of play from everybody around him. That starts with Aaron Donald on the Front End and also Jalen Ramsey on the back end. Aaron Donald is one of the few defensive tackles despite not being a gigantic space eater that can divert significant attention. Away from his fellow Linemates, he is a guy that has to be double teamed. He's a guy that teams will often run away from him because they're worried about giving up pressure for tackles for loss. They know it's just easier to say we're going to stick to running the one side because maybe there's more success than running directly into Aaron Donald, and because of that, that frees up a lot. Of defensive tackles on their on their on their line like Michael brokers to be on an island with an offensive lineman. That is a perfect scenario for who for a guy who is still very, very talented as it offensive tackle because there is a lot more free space to move and teams are double teaming Aaron Donald that makes things so much easier for the guys behind him to move freely. But even as much as Aaron Donald is double teamed and Offenses Duke Game Plan for him. It almost doesn't matter. He already has three sacks on the season and. The Rams just find ways to get him involved a make offenses have to find him against the Dallas Cowboys. They. There was a play early in the game where they had donald lined up as a standup rusher at out at the seven technique, basically as a standup defensive end and they had them lined up over Tyron Smith, and he was still able to get pressure on Dak Prescott. Yeah. I I don't know of any other defensive tackles who can basically be a stand up rusher and bully tyrant Smith that shouldn't be possible but it is. The rams are going to move him all around their defensive for the jobs are going to have to keep track of him and. Basically, have a standing double team or wherever he he lines up he needs to be double teamed just period and it still might not matter I can say pretty confidently and it's not something I want to say confidently Chris. But if the giants don't properly identify where he is and who is supposed to be blocking him. Like. We saw Khalil Mack come free against the Chicago bears. and. He lit up Daniel Jones Aaron. Donald will have huge production and have a huge day against them. They need to be a hundred percent aware of where he is because frankly this offensive line is already not getting the job done. Now imagine them in week three having to face the best defensive tackle and also defensive lineman playmaker sack producer. run-defender in the NFL, they need to know where he is on the field. Yeah, and they need to execute perfectly every single rap because not only is Aaron Donald a freakish athlete which we all know but he is also incredibly technically sound. He's got a super high motor and he can make plays just by not giving up and finding his way through waves of blockers with really just excellent hand uses great leverage and just work his way into plays. It's tough to not sound hyperbolic about him but. He really is just that good. I, know he's one of the few players that it sounds like you're over exaggerating and hyping him up. He is that good of a player is that good of a player to completely break again and shut down an offense? There's not a lot of guys in the NFL who are capable of doing that and speaking of a guy on the outside who is capable of shutting down receivers that's Jalen Ramsey, and we spoke when breaking down the forty niners film of how Much giants receiver receivers were struggling to get open and create separation. Whoever is on Jalen Ramsey in is playing against him is going to have a very tough time. It might not be the same guy every single play. But Ramsey is good enough to shut down in lockdown whoever they're facing yet he really is and and that's why they went out and got him. He is. He has been at times. One of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. His play has been a little up and down but I'm not sure the giants really have anybody who scares him Darius in might be able to out athlete him some. If Ramsey's able to get his hands on able to redirect him slings. GonNa have a hard time finding separation and that really going to limit what the giants are able to do on offense. Lastly, if we're talking about other talented players and I think that both of these guys are. Guys that benefit from the extra attention from for Aaron, Donald that being Leonard, Floyd and Michael Brokers both of which Chris you know are very productive brokers. Type of player that kin. Similar to Donald, not at the same level, require some extra attention because he is a very big and talented defensive tackle and then Leonard Floyd who came over from the shot bears has been very, very good for them as one of their best outside pass rushers yet floyd is currently second on the team he has. Two sacks two tackles for loss three quarterback hits. That's really nowhere near Donald has produced, but that's still not bad for the third game and you know we saw him at Chicago. He is a very long, very athletic edge player outside linebacker. and. He can drop into coverage which does give them more options for disguising looks disguising pressures that something the rams don't do all that often, and they tend to not be terribly successful when they do blitz. But they can bring pressure from unexpected areas just because of how much attention offenses have to pay to Aaron Donald and having a long athletic lexical edge like Leonard. Floyd..

"What you think of the bears is we're currently seeing five and to what in the world are we thinking of Chicago right now? It's a great question and it's a very strange time. If nothing about this team, other than the record says five and to watch their press conference on the players, the coaches, the conversation you would think they were too at five at best because they're they're lost that game against the rams everything takes so much effort I'm talking I tand. We want again three yards. It's it's landing on the moon. In this offense right now and now predictably right on schedule rich that people are crowing about you know trubisky wasn't that bad. Maybe we go back with them. It's Hell I have a friend Abe friend who works with the Eagles organizations name I will not mention but he said look he said Nick Foles is the nicest guy in the world I owe everything to him that no savior no franchise savior. And I said hold on a second. That's his whole deal. He comes into the burning buildings and he runs out with the baby the only. Solution I. Have Right now if Nick foles is only good when there's there's drama and there's a deficit, can we do something where we play trubisky for three quarters and then just bringing pulse for the fourth quarter in the inner? San, man, he can come out of the bullpen and just save us because that seems to be the only thing that works for this team and it did obviously in the day in Atlanta, and then since that day he's gone to and to the starter air is like pulling teeth it is but. What's the answer? There isn't one. It's every bears team of my lifetime and it's time to go. It's every and you can talk to some guy rich. One of these soda bottles were Ski Super, Fans from from this throw or Berlin on the south side, and they're still clinging to that. You know this bear football this this bear weather defense and run the ball. They don't run the ball at all like. They actually there wasn't even good against the rams and that's something that bears fans are hired in this romantic relationship. We have with with bare football and bear weather. I remember when during the Jay Cutler era when they're like this bear weather, we want it to be rainy and cold, and like we have a a timing based Mike Martz passing offense here. What are you talking bout? Not, bear football at all and neither is what we're seeing right now the thing about Naggus Nagy jobs trick plays he loves all that he's got a whole catalogue of them and he calls them you know Elvis and he calls them Maryland. He loves that stuff you can't run that stuff if you don't have the regular place, you can't go through to the novelty when you don't have the meat and potatoes and they don't and this I mean the right now they look like they could lose to the Saints Twenty and the packers by forty and yet they're five and two it's. One of the strangest I'd team identities I've seen after seven weeks ever Kyle. Brandt good morning football ten questions with Kyle Brandt here on the rich Eisen show the ravens, steelers, rivalry returns with a vengeance. This is going to be great. I, mean, it's just a regular old one o'clock eastern game to it's Sunday night. It's not Monday. Night it's not Sunday late afternoon. It's just one of the first eight games being played. I can't wait for it can't wait for it's it's it's like I can hear Jonathan's Senda. Rich. I. Love this rivalry there are million in sports there's several in. The NFL. There's nothing that gets my blood flowing packers, their brother steelers, Ravens, steelers, Ravens it's this these two teams so good. The defense is so strong. We asked this morning we were talking about. All right which defense has the bigger challenge this weekend and I said, look the steelers offense is is very good and might even be great but I don't think it's terrifying. I still believe that the ravens offense terrifying for the opposing coordinator, which is why I think the defense is going to have stuff as task Devon Bush was out last week I. Know He's out for the season. It's one thing to be out against Derrick Henry and have Robert Spelane this great undrafted guy meet him in the whole on the goal line. That's that's not Lamar. Lamar is the sideline to sideline. He will put you in a highlight like before you even know what happened I'm worried about that loss them this week. That's why I think I think Baltimore takes this thing, and then you know you're derelict of duty in position like wherein you and your pod or a Good Morning Paul me on this show and Game Day morning if we don't have at least one segment talking about to. His popularity's through the roof, and this is going to be great I up as Aaron Donald in that rams defense that's going to be a fun. Fun Week Eight contest, I wonder what expectation level you have to. Kyle this is a big week rich in the industry of freezing cold takes and getting. Remembered that way for being wrong. A lot of people are gonNA be in a lot of people are going to be if he wanted on the record on the rich Eisen show then I ten out of ten full speed ahead completely on the to a bandwagon before it starts I think he will have an unbelievable debut. I was looking through some of the great debuts. We've Seen Cam Newton prolific in his first game some of the young guys were seeing now Herbert looked really. Good rg three was a sensation, his first game ever against New Orleans I think to is going to be that good and I don't care that he's playing Aaron Donald. I still believe I'll say this all season if to oh, would not have gotten hurt last year I think it'd be on the Cincinnati bengals right now I think. They would have taken him over job borough and we've been enchanted with all these other guys and they do a great and Herbert and borough to A. The talent in this great nation of ours for the last three years and I think he's GonNa show it would have been nice. If they started I'm lacking against the jets I'll be a little easier but I still think he's has it I'm in fully in freezing cold take me all you want I'm Kinda plus one although it does concern about the rams. Does. It does concern me about the rams that does. But in terms just epic you know it's it's this week and then cuyler Murray, and then you've also got bar he does play borrow he does go against Herbert he does go against. Patrick. Mahomes he does go against Cam. Newton these are all match ups that we've got. For the dolphins ordinarily we would not have been paying attention to the ultimate of respect to fits magic and all the craziness that usually ensues right there and I can't wait to see it this week and the few minutes I have left with you Adam Devine is your is your guests this week that he's he's hilarious man that guy..

"Together a huge comeback against the buffalo bills this team is way better than I think a lot of people wanNA give them credit for Yeah I. I, remember it wasn't that long ago right around the start of the season fed giants fans pretty much had this game circled as a likely win, but then the last week happened in had. We actually got to see what competition in the NFC west is like this year I I don't know the giants fans are quite as confident. And I think that you shouldn't be overly confident like like some analysts were during the off season I have never really been out on the rams because I knew that they had the talent in the right spots and not only. Talent good players but elite players at their respective positions especially on defense with Jalen Ramsey and Aaron. Donald. So today's episode we're going to do what we do every single time. We're GONNA break things down like a scouting report to fill you in on every single thing that you need to know for this game. So when you're watching the game, you can think in to yourself and say I remember Chris Joe. Bringing. This up. We gotTa Watch out for this Oh they're doing that this game four, twenty, five on Sunday and Chris if we want to bring up the first key player to know it has to be Jared Goff who had a bit of a down year last year has not been. Living up to his expectations of being a first overall pick quarterback but it should be noted that this guy is fully capable of taking over a game and making all the throws on the field that you need him to. He's not somebody who can take over without any additional help through the scheme that they run, but he fits perfectly. With how nick tries to establish things on offense, and frankly, if nick mullins can produce in, have a huge game, Jared Goff is going to. Not Be slowed down at all this upcoming week. There are a lot of jokes. A lot of criticisms hurled a golf. I think at least some of it goes back to that draft year when there were a lot of people wondering, is he just another spread quarterback Kenny have success at the NFL level now I think those people. have been made a little bit foolish just based on how much the spread offense has taken over the NFL and really that's that has a lot of influence in the offense he's running. Now he is a very good fit for Sean McVeigh's offense, very quick release. He is an accurate passer. He can get the ball out to his playmakers quickly, and now you I. Think we're really starting to see him. See and understand defenses at make changes at the line of scrimmage, which probably plays a role in the rams being better than people thought they were going to be to the key pieces for him on offense that help him elevate his play are his receivers Cooper Cup in Robert Woods. Now, they're not overly productive. Elite Top five receiving Numbers Cup two, hundred and twenty eight receiving yards, eighteen receptions Robert Woods one, hundred, ninety, three receiving yards, thirteen receptions on the year. Both of them though are very, very good at getting open with the style of offense that Sean McVeigh likes to run. We're GonNa talk about that style of offense and how they establish. Their offensive game plan but from cup in from woods, they can get open very effectively. If you're not paying attention and you bite on some of these play fakes that they run, they have the capability to. Pick up yards after the catch and gas you for ten to fifteen yards if there's enough room for them to do. So yeah, absolutely, and that is one of the things this offense really specializes in doing it's getting these guys these playmakers, the room to make plays they this offense doesn't really have many stars. Goff is like we just at ease perfectly fine starting quarterback there I don't think too many teams would have complaints about having him as their starter Cooper Cup is maybe a little underrated as receiver. But he's also not a superstar receiver. Robert Woods, he can be dangerous after the catch you know he is. A really good runner with the ball in his hands. He's a good route runner. But he isn't Odell Beckham junior or any of these anything like any of these. Superstar Electric playmaking receivers. But the thing this offense does have is a very good scheme. Very good play calling and away of just get a getting everybody on the same page in working. Well together I think that's the perfect point to illustrate here leading into the offense of strengths for this rams team that they don't have anybody who is. Overly. An elite talent I would argue at any of their positions they're all very talented they're athletic, but would makes his team very, very good is they worked too. Well, they work well together cohesively and it's a well coached team because they all work together. efficiently. That is why they're so good on offense and why they're able to confused defenses with some of the styles that they use on offense through their play calling. This is just a very, very well coached unit similar to the San. Francisco. Forty, niners. Now, the big key strength that allows them to move the ball is their ability to. Use Smoke and mirrors to confuse opposing defenses and what I mean by that, there will be a lot of different things going on pre snap and also post nap there will be some motions, some jet motions to divert the attention of defensive backs and linebackers. You'll see a lot of zone running concepts early on in early down to establish the run and at the same time, even if golf isn't throwing the ball, he will. Still Roll out as if he might be going for play action and on top of that, they will then use that to set up play action passes all of these different wrinkles and things going on allows them to ultimately put so many different thoughts in the head heads of defensive players that they're facing. All of these different pieces is what essentially sets up multiple plays despite all their concepts being pretty simple and concise yet to. Each individual concept, the rams us. "And I'm like how does anyone block that that's fast an unbelievably strong and when it gets momentum and is feeling menacing how what are you supposed to do against that and Aaron Donald is a good deal better than that. While I've heard opponents say he has the Of Lyman say he has the quickest jump of the stat that they've ever seen. He's just jumping. In Sap would slither through double teams with quickness but I've never seen anything like that dude and. We're GONNA take a month of calls after he ends UP IN DONALD TO END UP DONALD BELLY. Bills rally to beat Rams 35-32 after blowing 25-point lead
"The bills. Blew a twenty five point lead on Sunday and lived to tell the tale. The bills happily received the gift of questionable Pi call on fourth down. Then won the game on a Josh Allen to Tyler. Crop Hook up with fifteen seconds to play final score thirty, five, thirty, two. Wow Greg the rams came this close to a comeback for the ages. Only let victory slip away. They left too much time on the clock. When you come back from twenty three, you got a time that final touchdown just to go to overtime and then win the coin flip, which is probably the only way. The Rams Defense was GONNA get a stop in a big moment here because Josh Allen. Did. It all in this game in terms of the rollercoaster, the the whole experience they had nine possession and they and they scored five touchdowns. So I don't want to hear anything about the bills offense being in any way let down now he helped set up the comeback with a couple of turnovers, one of which came on a very questionable call, but was also a terrible throw by Alan. So yeah, he was at some fall Aaron Donald took over the game as Donald Does but my big takeaway is that the bills are an offensive team you WANNA get on part of their team. For blowing the lead, get on the defense I I look at them more as a team. That's GonNa make mistakes offensively as we saw here and there but that had to third and twenty three situations with the game on the line and they wound up converting the both they got one into a four, thousand nine. They got that questionable call as you mentioned Dan and and if they didn't get it, we'd be talking about how they blew this game but I still. As. A global view. Take a look at this bills team in think this offense is really dangerous and Alan's going to have some ups and downs but the conversion that they've had into an offense that can score over thirty regularly is massive and they are gonna be a tough team to beat when that's the case One thing stuck out to me was the uproar over the the controversial call at the end of the game and to be honest I caught a lot of this game. The only reason the rams were in the game was because of a bad call in their favour in which there was a simultaneous possession interception, which was clearly caught by the offensive player, and then once they hit the ground was wrestled out of his hands by the defensive player was a horrible call and they tried to defend it afterwards, our river on did and. It didn't make any sense when he tried to defend it either terrible throw though two and they gave up four touchdowns in four possessions very quickly. I think it's giving the rams a little too little credit's saying that's the only reason. It was definitely a turning point but it was a bad decision by Alan and more more to the point the rams offense started cooking. In the third and fourth quarters I hated that call. It's funny. We just started this show talking about how referees are keeping the flags in their pockets that to me at the end of the game there and I I know L. River on got behind his boy there. But that seemed very ticky tack with the game on the line to call that. But you know at that happens ultimately I think if you're the rams. Yeah. You're smarting from that call but also there are two third in forever's that they had right the bill. And all you gotTa do is make stop and that was you know that was to opportunities they had and they and they let it go by the boards and that is a credit to Allen I didn't get a chance to see this game. So I can't really say too much about it other than. His ability to just move this team up and down the field for three straight weeks, he is passed for three hundred yards. In, three straight weeks and they are averaging I believe four hundred and thirty yards. Total yards per game and thirty one points per game through three weeks, which is obviously franchise records across the board. There's something special happening with his offer.

Good Screening is not working for a delight. We go out on top of the disturbed. Why would we do that I WANNA do this for months I wanted to do to songs just waiting on hold over the weekend when we're not even here just waiting for us on Monday seven, eight, six, four, five, six, eight, three, seven, we don't get. This may chances in south Florida like this is the thing in sports that people love to have the hope of a young quarterback coming in is our next decade going to be good or not, or is it going to get swallowed whole by Aaron Donald and a quarter and a half? I saw that how long is now saying how long is putting? Aaron Donald in the class of Lawrence Taylor Reggie White Dion Sanders. Best defensive player that he's ever seen and best at the position even as Cortez. Kennedy one defensive player of the year for a team that didn't win very much in Seattle. How many wins that have two wins? Wins and he was one of those guys like. Mental. He wants to and they went to and fourteen with Cortez Kennedy is the defensive player of the year I believe. So yeah, I think Mosquera might actually be. Donald might be the best football player in the League and he might not win defensive player of the year because myles Garrett on I. Think statistically the worst one of the worst defenses is on pace for twenty saxes here. So how long put Aaron Donald there but that's I mean, why wouldn't he be there? Just I haven't heard a lot of people doing that because of the respect they have generally. For previous greatness, we rarely do that STU when do we ever do that while Tomba playing long enough to get it we're rarely watching a guy in saying as he's doing it is the greatest I've ever seen that doesn't we wait until years later we criticize them while they're coming up we criticize them we put every action under a microscope. We don't give these guys the joy of the greatest ever. While were watching it that one usually just happens in retrospect I feel like we all did a pretty quickly with Patrick Mahomes I mean a lot of people were saying he's the greatest I've ever seen pretty quickly but we see excellence at the position all the time, and we know what to gauge it against defensive tackle for you to dominate a game it that's for us not know coaching backgrounds haven't. Played The game for to jump off the screen while you're watching television at that position it's obviously special. I don't know but you guys okay because I've been marveling at the televised product of the NFL that reminds me only when they pan out that there's no one there because I forget I'm watching these games in there. So well produced that if you don't go into the stands, I will absolutely forget. That there are no fans there. It's been amazing but one of the things that it is crystallized for me I guess we kind of knew it already the savagery of blind play Stugatz. When you look at the physicality of these human beings, Aaron Donald isn't even big for that position Aaron Donald is small for that position. So when I'm watching this Hicks Guy from Chicago.

Very well okay, I'll give you that and yet. He had his team in position to win. The two seat and have a week off shouldn't have been playing. Except his defense of head coach Bill Belichick defense gave up a seventy five yard, thirteen play drive to Ryan, Fitzpatrick to blow the two seed. And nobody talks about it, because bill bill shakes the greatest coach ever, and he gets assets. Do they blew the two seed? They didn't blow the opportunity not to make the playoffs. Yeah, they still made the playoffs and Tom Brady later me in January, not April Easter. He laid an egg in January. Human made it the last time you saw Tom Brady and the Patriots uniform below parable. Tell tall to. That what he realized made, it shifted he laying eggs. In every big game Aaron Donald. He looks like he's just laying eggs in the middle of line because I can't find him. Would you believe he's played my cowboys four times in his career. Those qualifies Big Games. He has also played four playoff games. Has Aaron Donald? WHO's the best player in pro football by a distance. Four playoff games. He is a grand total of a half. The Running Back's Struggle
"Josh last time we had ESPN. It was to talk about fullbacks today. We're talking about running backs in our way through the backfield man just like Aaron Donald Josh firms. Meyer writes about football for five thirty eight Josh late last week. The Rams announced in a shocking move that they were releasing running back. Todd Gurley. This was a remarkable turn of events Given that girlie one offensive player of the year in twenty seven teen thoroughly. He was discussed by some people as an MVP candidate in two thousand eighteen on route to the Super Bowl led the league in rushing touchdowns that year. The ten the five untouched. To the end zone touchdown todd Gurley and on top of that. He's only twenty five years old. What happened my goodness twenty five year? Old running backs are already aging out. The first thing that happened to him was he has arthritic me. So at the end of the two thousand eighteen season he had to be replaced and spelled by Anderson Mentally played a little bit in the Super Bowl but he was just entirely ineffective. Fortunately that ineffectiveness carried over into the twenty nine thousand nine season and inbetween. He was given an extension that made him one of the highest. Pay running backs in the league. So this season couple that knee with his expense the caps situation in a loss Angeles and he just became a casualty and I think he is kind of an exemplar for everything. That's going on with running backs in the NFL. It's this idea of short and careers injury proneness and loss of effectiveness and therefore being cut or getting lower pay on the day that he was released. Espn stats and Info. Put out an number that I found fascinating in two thousand fifteen year. That Gurley was drafted. Twenty two backs were drafted. Not a single one of them. Josh is still on the team that selected them. What do you make of that goes to this idea of running backs? Having really short shelf life season for running back usually occur in one of their first two seasons at least in terms of productivity in terms of touches. You wear them down so quickly in this league. Though it's one of the toughest position on on the body and so I think the League as we've seen so far this year they still are kind of have a predilection overpay for the very good running backs are the ones that just had a good season but on by and large I think across the league. You're seeing people being really risk averse and moving on from running backs after a couple of seasons. When did you notice that that some teams not all and we'll get to some teams that have continued to pay running backs winded some teams for start to realize that they had been overvaluing the position and wanted to invest elsewhere. It's hard to trace it back specifically to a particular team but I know that People in twitter sphere and analytics the NFL analytics of talked about the replace ability of the running back position for quite a few years. The Philadelphia Eagles were one of the first on board to kind of spend money at the position but spread that money out over multiple players to kind of make the injury risks inherent in the position kind of spread across multiple sets of legs. The Baltimore Ravens are also one of the ones that the forefront of really just paying the absolute minimum that they have to at that position and actually getting pretty good production out of you mentioned that the analytics community was sort of early on this trend. What did they find? What did the data tell us about running backs really two things? Were most important about running the football. The results of run plays are primarily determined by run walking and defenders in the box. The defense and not who's carrying the ball because of that the finding is the inferences. They're running backs are interchangeable and investing a lot of resources whether it's the draft or whether it's free agency just doesn't make a lot of sense is also can be pinned on the changing nature of football itself. By and large. The data tells us that passing more passing. Early is more efficient right absolutely absolutely. I mean it's not even close in terms of the average value of a planet passing versus running on early downs. Then you still have to get into this idea. Of How much does it matter to the mentality of the team? How much does it matter to keep the defense on their toes? How much do you have to do to keep them honest? And so there's no question about how much teams should passing as a percentage of plays but is probably a case. They should be passing more than now. So are there any situations in which running the football is more advantageous absolutely? I absolutely you need to be able to run well at the goal line on Short yardage. If you have a running quarterback like Baltimore had last season definitely scrambling in design runs for quarterback are extremely efficient. Jackson will keep it on the read option expense at the thirty Lamar Jackson. Ted Pa Touch Lavar captain with the spin. This print Emma score. We saw what happened with Baltimore last year. They say hadn't run into that. Tennessee buds buzzsaw in the playoffs. They probably would have made it to the superbowl in my opinion. So there's definitely something to be said for the analytics and say stop running entirely and if you are going to do it do it with deception. Right off of play action. Get the other team guessing. About what your actual formation means and so they lose half a step in responding to what you're doing those are the kind of the things analytics pushes for not not whether or not you should be one hundred percent run or a hundred percent. You mentioned that Tennessee buzzsaw that beat the Baltimore. Ravens upset them. I think a lot of people point to that team to Derrick Henry and say see having a unique generational running back does matter. Look they upset. You Know New England in Baltimore. What would you say to that? I mean he got a twelve point. Five million franchise tag out of that performance. The back end of that year so I understand their point. They're looking at what just happened. They're looking at how he's being rewarded. No saying obviously matters but they beat another rushing team it the problem that I think the face the Ravens and we saw it with Kansas City. And how they didn't share. This same problem was that if you're built around the run whether it's by the quarterback or running it up the middle an wide zone like ravens did last season if you fall behind against a team that is also a ground and pound team in trying to control the clock and control the pace and you put yourself in a position where you have to come back. And you're not used to doing it or you don't have a quarterback quarterback that perhaps his is known for that type of play. You get what happened in in in Baltimore that night Jackson under pressure always lose ball stemming interception Jedi for the titans come up with another turnover hennessy. Titans are shocking the ravens whereas with the city chiefs they fell behind early three straight times but ended up winning the Super Bowl because they have a pass attack higher variants. You could make up ground easier with the passing game that you can with the run. When everything's working great rushing is the first thing you should try. And if you're good at it you should do it as long as you can but when it fails it fails pretty spectacularly and you need to be able to pass and in fact at the NFL level we ever parody is so prevalent that you really should just start out passing at that point because everyone's trying to run and everyone's trying to stop the run so the chiefs are sort of the analytics darling in this scenario because you know they passed their way to the Super Bowl. Josh they also have Patrick Mahomes right. So if you're a team with an average quarterback do you still think it's better to take a pass first approach in every NFL GAME? Even with a mediocre quarterback we find that they are better and teams are better and more efficient passing the ball and in sometimes. It's even more apparent when you have kind of an average or slightly above average quarterback because the defense and the defensive coordinator is almost sure you're going to not rely on them right. They're gonNA say well he's kind of crap you know. They're probably going to run out us all day long. And try and be safe with the ball so to the extent that you can put a mediocre quarterback in good positions like. Perhaps Tennessee did last year. Then you can take quarterback that had been floundering for years like Ryan Tannehill in. Turn him in to one of the best quarterbacks in the league the number one running back by the end of the season a guy that some people thought could have been the super bowl. Mvp was undrafted Damian Williams who is set to make just over a couple million dollars next year. How much does finance or the market factor in to know what we think about running backs today? I think you know if you're a casual fan. And you see everyone else. Basically on the team. Except for the punter and kicker getting more than on average than these running backs. I think it's beginning to percolate that. They're probably not the most important piece on the offense anymore. Things about analytics. Is that unlike baseball? Where like things got more boring? When analytics became involved when analytics can evolved in Football. Become more exciting. We want more passing. We want to go for it on fourth down. We want to know more so I one of the good things about all of this is that you see more aggressive more exciting football when it's played in the way that evidence seems to suggest it should
Jalen Ramsey's troubled Jaguars tenure ends with blockbuster trade to Rams
"Terms of Jalen Ramsey will talk about this he finally got what he wanted the end result the disgruntled corner headed to the Los Angeles Rams the Jaguars finally relented and Ramsey to the west coast for first round draft picks two of the one in twenty twenty one in two thousand twenty one also a fourth rounder in the two thousand twenty one draft here's a statement for Jaguars executive VP. Tom Coughlin given the situation with Jalen we made this decision based on what we thought is in the best interest of the Jacksonville Jaguars for this season and well into the future we feel the trade that we struck with the rams gives us great value for the next two drafts and remain confident that our team today will compete this season for a division title Jalen Wasser Productive Flair but the time came to move on and we wish him and his family the best in Los A- Angela here's head coach Doug marrone obviously I had a good relationship with him and we were working together to get them healthy on the field and that that's what my focus was so he can get on the field and help us you know win football games and now you know how concentrating on on the players gotta here and and getting our guys focused on on on Cincinnati I think in his league nothing ever really surprises me anymore you know especially from the business side of things I found out like everybody else did last night you know lately point Dave came in and told me Rams reporter Lindsey theory joins us from L. A. and Lindsey listen there's been a lot of coming and going and all Ryder roster changes what's the general reaction to all of the news from the rams this week Wendy for a team that's three and three and in the mid of a three game losing streak certainly renewed buzz and energy at the team facility this morning now I am told the Jalen Ramsey is in route to Los Angeles and he's expected here later this afternoon or the rams do expect that he will pass his physical and I am told that he could be on the field for them as soon as Sunday against the Falcons now this would be viewed as a move where the rams are going all in once again to try to make a repeat super bowl run but I am told the Rams really believe that this is a move for their long-term future keep to leave and Marcus Peters or playing the season on expiring contracts Ramsey has another season left and the rams do intend to sign him to a long term engine now as you mentioned he's not the only new face here at the facility today Kenny Young Austin Corbett also were here they have passed their physicals though remains to be seen if they will be at practice later this afternoon and one more note Wendy Safety John Johnson is headed to injured reserve because of shoulder injury. Lindsey thank you it was a rare blockbuster trade a few weeks now before the trading deadline Ramsey joined a small handful of veteran players traded for multiple first round picks in the last third two years or so Khalil Mack and Jay Cutler garnered big offers from the bears the dolphins move two first rounders for Ricky Williams and it too big halls to get Herschel Walker an Eric Dickerson listen we can go back to the jags but since June Ramsey is moving onto the rams let's start with what he means for the La Rams Right now we'll Wade Phillips now gets a play defense the way he wants to Wakefield's really wants to play in your face on the line of scrimmage with the defensive line pressure and then in your face on the live with men cover corners. He hasn't been able to do that to be honest with you with Marcus Peters Marcus Peters is not not played good man to man coverage needs a better zone corner so now wade having Jalen gets the opportunity to get back to Colin defense the way he wants to do it I'll be really interested to see if they use Jalen the way we want I bill belichick thrill reverse where you put him on the team's best number two receiver and then everybody else gets to get double teams opposing for the opposing offense but it makes their defense significantly best Champ Bailey the dion sanders I mean the great quarters you can do that lock him up and then roll the other side I think you'll see that the other thing that was curious for me was that Tom Coughlin mentioned that Jaguars were better this year and going forward I think maybe either that was miss written or because they're not speak they're not better by getting a great player out of there so I miss quotes tim so expe- Joe Joe Listen you were you were spot on Jalen Ramsey never changed his stance which is what you asserted from the get-go and I would assume just finally came to a point where it just made no sense to have him on a roster when he wasn't going to win this transaction happened yesterday the first thing came to my mind is how often the people I was always talking to that this was going to work out for Jalen Ramsey like there was no fretting I didn't hear any fear and now that this is resolved itself in the way that it has it kind of plays into the tone that I've been hearing all along now I was talking to a source obviously familiar with Jalen Ramsey. They said that he's excited considering this a fresh start to be with the rams I think one of the questions that I had in talking to ram source last night was why not hold onto Marcus Peters to have opposite Jalen Ramsey in terms of making this movie now one thing that the ram source said to me is that it looked like it was clear that less need did not want to pay marcus. Peters beyond this year he's eligible unrestrained the free agency next year and it was better just to rip off quote unquote the band-aid now so then it becomes well who is opposite Jalen Ramsey for this game against the Atlanta Falcons they mentioned that two thousand seventeen when cal Roby Coleman I came to the teen that he did fill in for a keep to Leon outside first and second down and then on Nichols would have him excuse me on third down having a nickel or sometimes have troy hill on the outside and then have an RC in the middle so expect something like that or combination of that against the Falcons either way Julio Jones saw the rams problems in the short turn no because the opposite of the ball is atrocious right now and that's been there issue as far as being a front now what I will say is it does play into them getting better though like we can focus on golfing what this offense has been doing but with the guy like Jalen Ramsey not only does he hell Aaron Donald give him a maybe a half a second more to get to the quarterback he also may be able to steal a possession to for you and this ninety four was out there so air down gets another piece on the back end that can help him hold off quarterbacks for a second for him to get there and that's that's really all I can think about so maybe you
Jalen Ramsey trade grades: Rams complete cornerback overhaul
"The rams have made a nother monster trade and this time they've traded for the best player available on the trade market Jalen Ramsey generally considered the best cover corner in the NFL extremely unhappy in Jacksonville it has been asking for a trade for weeks yeah is on his way to the ramps it is being reported by multiple sources now including Adam Schefter that the rams are acquiring jalen Ramsey for two first round picks a first round pick in twenty twenty a first round pick in twenty twenty one and a fourth round pick in twenty twenty one three total draft picks including two number ones all right king of the Ramle what he is saying I I'm so as soon as I traded Marcus Peters I thought are you initially said wait a minute keep Ta- Leib Injured Reserve yesterday Marsha I have no corner they have no corners could this be Jalen Ramsey and you're right yes it is Jalen Ramsey this is what I love about less need and Kevin often the ramps are constantly pushing their chips to the middle of the table you know three and three did not look good after that loss to San Francisco major upgrade to the defense ager upgraded the defense and by the way they also added a pretty good linebacker and Kenny foster and they added an offensive Lineman in Austin corporate earlier today for the Cleveland browns they are they are trying to accumulate Talat to turn this around at one correction you said Kenny foster it's Kenny Young's thirty on Kenny went to Ucla and was great at Ucla she was What's interesting now is what do I always pound on the table with the doctor bus pounded into me star driven town Yes star driven town star driven town no matter what you say star Driven Town Yep the rams now have five different players who are the top paid player at their position Jared Goff Yup uncooked. Yup Todd Gurley Aaron Donald and we assume jalen Ramsey we assume this trade is being made with the idea that Ramsey will sign a long term. term gas contract because if not it's all it's a lot to give up that is a lot every time the rams have wanted to sign somebody to a long term deal they've gotten because remember Marcus Peters on his fifth year option and there was plenty of speculation that the rams were not going to extend him now they've got a younger more accomplished cornerback in Jalen Ramsey who I think there's a much higher comfort level in signing for the long term and by the way he's going to be fun to talk to fun to cover he's a fascinating guy he's not afraid of a great quote and he also happens to be arguably the best cover corner in the NFL well and you have a guy like this it basically takes away half the field yes you just have to defend the other half 'cause you know Jalen Ramsey can guard the elite wide receivers that put him on an island silent or Dion island that's this guy and he's not even twenty five years old

"MVP of which was unheard of there's only happened twice. Okay Allen pay right here right now if I gave you a choice as a GM Aaron Donald or Patrick Mahomes who you taken. I'm taking the whole boy. Thank you but you just told me earned dollars the best player in football how well what are you talking to what you semantical definition of best player Aaron. Donald is the best player in football but if you're trying to build a team you always take the guy that can score points. Oh well maybe that makes the quarterback a lot more valuable than the defense of the values gap. It's the sane knowing full value to make sure I'm here you so every time someone wins the most valuable player so okay. I'm glad you said that so. I don't want anything anything else about Michael Jordan because Carl did win. MVP when Michael Jordan was Indonesia told you that was a popular. I just explained number year. I'd say Michael Win that don't like him okay so what about what magic adjectives hilarious and they wanted to be an eighties okay would they. What would they better than Mac now but they kept winning because there's popularity there's always what do you call it. There's a narrative right. It's give you ought to be ashamed. Who's winning the championships. Once Michael broke through he was a baby player when and they were and they will hold me magic magic in there had walkers tabby one hour. We had it Aaron Donald. Get in this conversation because he doesn't belong along. Jeffey does the best right now so you see what you do. Skill is that when someone says somebody's better you go to the best player in the history of that sport. He's not that you would not make a cave the greatest player I'll go to Tom Brady. Tom Brady's better than earned dollar. Just is way better. He's like like a hundred times battery. You know what the city of Los Angeles now has to overrated a d do to overrated eighties and you know what I'm that's. That's the one that's sixteen by the one title and you change your tune. Maybe you would think you take what you do. I bet you be saying tuning twenty twenty really twenty twenty. You won't be saying that it is a slow start to say words. You're saying he's going to carry the old man to a title I don't get what do you call it what you want to to see how you like them. Worry with Barbecue Lemon pepper on the words. You gotta eat because you eat the word. How many words have I ever eat Bo Bush none. We're talking about what you eight O. Taco Oh exchange life in Dallas but before we get there we are GonNa talk about the level of concern. Drowning Baker Mayfield slow start off season. It's been interesting Eric Dickerson. He joins us. Let's get his answer as well so the browns host the rams on Sunday night football and are three point underdogs according to Fox Bet Baker Mayfield has had a shaky start to the season with two touchdowns four interceptions and it has at least one former Brown's great concerned six time all Pro Thomas said that Baker's lack of rhythm is surprising rising and unsettling and that the QB seem confused about several of the jets coverage is on Monday night so we're now joined by Fox sports. NFL analyst Eric Dickerson good to have you eric. Yes sir good to have you whenever we're talking about that team but when it comes to do the browns what do you expect from Baker when he faces Wade Phillips Defense one thing. I expect him to be afraid of his Aaron. Donald I saw you know when you watch Baker he looks looking for us and I think Greg Williams really good job of that. You know the same kind of defense at the rams have but what I do expect them to do is is most try to cut down on the penalties and not having hold the ball as long because he holds the ball a long time when these as long routes. It's going to be a problem. That's GONNA give Corey Lilla time to get to and that's GonNa give Clay Matthews time to get to him and also Aaron Donald. The football skip you mean the guy would know saks saks in the play offs. Don't mail sacks against the cowboys career. I don't know but he he I was just GonNa say what about them. We're lost. You always say we lost. Okay Anyway Tony Romo. He lost so so you know. I just feel like that the NFL. It's as you know Shannon. It doesn't take long for them to catch up. You know they they watch him. In the off season their wives Baker you know every player has a tendency. All of us have Tennessee. You know one thing I I expect Brown to do is look to nick job to try to establish the run they they did that last week. They start renting football. The jets stuff that it's still came back back to it and read it and it was good for them and that gives Baker chance to kind of get into a rhythm but you know if if he holds at Bothwell longtime and it looks confused you you know one thing. Wade Phillips will do will give him looks that it may look like this but is not that it may look like man but it's not man so that's what I expect. What do I expect us to win. That football game I gotta go with that of course is doing to handle I do. I say that because I don't have to play ain't gotta get hit. You expect Moore Struggle Skip. I think a lot of it has to do with expectations we automatically assume or you see what he did he had more touchdown than his rookie this season than any quarterback in the NFL history in so you automatically what you know what if you play to Welby and he's GonNa play you can play even better next year and like Eddie says team studying and I think the thing is they're trying to push the because they won't be played in. They're trying to push the ball down the field in sometimes you got pat the ball in order for those guys. Get down the field. Maybe maybe some of that padding the ball is called WASCO. He might be looking for a certain player a certain number no words a certain type of watch but we're not talking about that but it's it's still early. Skipping Greg Williams confuse a lot of people now. Greg will show you a lot of different looks but if you can block it up like the blitz look. He gave the nine eight or eighty nine. He did their creases in there yeah but you're GONNA have to hold up now because he will tell you a lot of different. Look I have a lot of guys moving around and what you think is not that and if you're not careful he hits in the back of your head. What bliss a free rush. I expect way doesn't like the bliss a lot especially when he got guys we ahead. Bond Miller indeed where you didn't really have to bleed. You know you got a slight one way or another and it got getting single coverage can get home. Free Way doesn't really like to cause not yet clay matthew. He also has finally also have Aaron Donald he does so he feels he can get there were pressure but he will bring it because he does have competence in his back. He has whittled back there now to leave market. Beatles but pete of need to be very careful Rodale because Peter is very vulnerable with the double move because the quarterback the likes to clue he likes to play off and he'll pat to read the quarterback pools up at three of ball's coming out quick and Odiele sit down and take off on you and now you've got a big play over the top so he needs to be very very careful. Plant Dale Peters does but I expect way to get after Peter's against Michael Tigar regular season. He's engaged you. Were there eight what happened to the play good point. You gotta you gotTa you gotTa pay my turn before I launch. Let me say I still love watching Baker. Mayfield play quarterback in fact. I enjoy his brand of quarterback better than any any other. I like him more than watching Dak or Tom. Brady or the quarterbacks I love because I just loved the swagger and the body language in the touchdown down celebrations running up the field doing helicopters and planes. It's just fun to watch because it is far esque farve like just spilling spilling over with energy in enjoy and trash talk and he just loves to compete but so far so bad because it goes back the third preseason game the dress rehearsal when he against Tampa when ten or twenty six for seventy two yards with no touchdowns in a pick and he just looked lost against Tampa and then obviously forty three to thirteen happened in their home opener thanks to the Tennessee titans and it was a disaster man and he just kept try harder tried the word against hapless. Give credit now. Tall Bull's might not know any different than I'll. He's called coordinate he is he can really coordinate nick. Goodman is Arizona Day Okay and yet I'm with you about this. I fear he he has fallen into the Odell trap because especially against the jets albeit against Greg Williams who can confuse anybody in. He was spoiled to try to get even with the teen gene. Let him go right but Baker was. He's holding the ball because he's looking to make hit a home run with Odell hit one early right now might have been the worst thing that could happen open to them for the season because it was the catch just another hood ornament right. Yup and yet after that he's forcing the ball to Odell and he's holding it and he's he's trying to duck and dodge in hold and escape and he can run a little bit he can move a little bit but after a while he's starting to take shots starting to get beat up and he's not he's not a big man not like he's not built like cam is or the quarterbacks so to me. He's got to spread the volcanoes last year. He didn't care he was not Jarvis centric. They had a bunch of young receivers little calloway in name a whole whole Rossi against yeah. They're pretty good. They're all pretty good and they looked very good when he was spraying the ball over the lot so I'm a little worried because because listen. This is a tall test. Your guy can really you. Don't talk about coordinating. That's a loaded defense with a really shrewd operator. Peter Calm those defense apply question wetted Freddie Kitchens come from what what what did he coach it. We coach a lot of place the way it goes less so he he he knows he knows that defense. He knows he knows he knows what would what Aaron Donald can do knows that they need to double team. We can sit here and say oh well. He's not you know you say he's not there but Freddie kitchens like hey look. This guy can hurt out quarterback. Okay what did you what did he do to parliament. I told my friend Roy Green. We played them in London. I'd say he's GonNa. Make your quarterback retire. Never tell you that we do. We broke his arm. He so so you know you gotta gotTa you gotTa count doubles who doesn't double and triple back sometime comes on and you're talking about offensive line. Cleveland Office of line is not that good that they're not that good so in in the worst thing you can do is give you have a physical glad is not very good. It's all of all that's why he's taking a lot of hits and he has he has doubled him an exemption. This touchdowns you. If you take what the defense give you pretty soon soon. They'll start creeping up and then you'll be able to throw the ball of your hair. That shouldn't be your first order of business trying to throw the ball over the head because they're like no we're not. GonNa give you anything cheap and deep early early but it was inciteful to me intriguing that the ESPN guys on Monday night football kept saying that and and I assume they got this from Freddie Kitchens that that Nick Chubb is the Most Valuable Player on that offense well there's Baker and there's Odell but nick shoves the MVP the offering gotta run that that would suggest again sure guys. They're just going to run it and run it. They have to win it because you know I would say the run sets up everything the play action all of a sudden you know you can't just set those guys that you you you got to run the football right oaths enough with a quarterback it does it makes you quarterback job a lot easier and then all of a sudden it makes them running back job a lot easier so they've got to try to run the football. They did it against the jets and they did a pretty good job. I think that nature is probably the most underrated in Arrow better than people think well..
Saints' Brees to see hand specialist after injuring thumb
"Series not out of the saints obviously saints fans puckered up now drew Brees gonna go see a hand specialist he suffered a thumb injury late in the first quarter with his right throwing hand after it hit rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald Donald. "He is fine concede that that's fine I. I'm willing to give that to all right. My first geeks out of the year is about we're talking about a little bit in in reference to the saints game but I'm really had such a good time going back and watching the games from last week kind of studying and observing the saints and chargers passing offense. This is to their running backs. I wrote about it a little bit today. In terms of maybe Alvin Kamara being able to throw a punch in this running back debate battle that it has not been thrown in terms of the value of running backs just because he's such a good receiver and his receiving targets. It's beyond volume. They actually have value or other running back. Receptions are not that's what he's used from running back from receiver alignments. Though I think is a huge part of that I'm so impressed with the way they throw it to him. Out of the backfield whether it's swing passes whether it's screens and the chargers do the same kind of thing they do such a good job of scheming they're running backs into space out of the backfield in a way that other teams do not know the chiefs have done this for years but I feel like the chargers in the saints are kind of in not the same class as Andy Reid but definitely in the class last below in terms of creating positive plays or other teams. Don't normally find them so when you're watching those games just when they show the twenty replay of Big Alvin Kamara gain just look could how much space is created by the route distribution and the same thing goes for the chargers they do such a good job of scheming ways to get those guys and tons of open grass and I think it's a huge part of what makes them good. I'm with you I. That's what it geeks out. I've been waiting for that GIG SAL for eight months. I just feel to geek out. I mean we did so much line. Play talk earlier in the show. I know we had to go to different yeah. No no no I kind of I kind of store your bit with the Saints Office of Line Hype WanNa make one more point so when it comes to the saints the chargers especially when you look at Melvin Gordon's receiving totals last year I assume that his agent and the the people that are kind of arguing for him to get paid. GonNa Point to them and say look at this but when you watch what Austin did last week and even when he did last year it's such such a testament to the design over the talent of the player and I think that's the disconnect between a receiver like Kamara or McCaffrey and a receiver like Melvin Gordon or even Todd Gurley at times so I think that we have to all receptions and receiving totals are not created equal. I think that's important to understand no no disagreement here all right. Let's get to our quick pick for Thursday night football. The Panthers are seven point favorite. I'm still picking Carolina. I think that Camden not attempt to pass over twenty yards against the rams. We can start panicking about whether that's his shoulder everything else remember. We did the same thing with luck last year and they ended up being fine. I think that's what we're trying to get rid of the ball quickly against Donald than it. is anything else covered. I some bad news Andrew Lock. It ended up being fine last that year. The colts offense was fine last year. That's what I mean yeah. I think the boxer terrible I'm kidding. I think the boxer bandbox I think the bucks are bad. I feel Carolina's defense is going to be really good. I tweeted this earlier. Brian Burns should not wear fifty three. It's just a terrible number for a really cool player. The only worst one in the league right now is the fact that Marlin Humphry. Where's forty four for the Ravens. Unacceptable is your number fifty three but I was an offensive lineman. I wasn't Ryan Burns. This is strange strange. You brought up that Brian Burns wearing your number and then you decided that you hate it. You hated okay so it's a good number on when you went out Bryan Burke. Yes I am me. I am not Brian Burns. I am not a six-foot five athletic marvel. I mean our that attitude it. Can I will myself to sixty five. Is that what you're saying. That's fine. It's very silly sixty six football because it was the only number that reminded minded hockey which I actually liked playing because it Mario Mario lemieux yeah. That's a good that's a good ten hockey. This is a true story. The reason I wore fifty three is that ah I stepped into an offensive line that was rival said it was the best in the country where we live four division one players and me and the only starter that was leaving he was number fifty three and I thought it would be like some weird psychological thing if nothing changed and I wore the same number that he did that was actually my reasoning but I came to love it. What happened into the other four guys. Two of them play to them. Got Drafted two of them got drafted played in the League are right guard was cut on hard knocks a couple years ago. Go with the bengals Teflon. One was a four year starter at western Michigan at left tackle and one of them played at Wisconsin Platfo for a while so they all played college football. They all were pretty good at it and then I did not with us. You're number fifty three. That's what was they really locked in because they were comfortable. That was it. I was very stupid when I was eighteen even even dumber than I am now. I guess I was seventeen at that point again even dumber. At least I never got mono though that there we go so bringing it all the way around all right guys we now we will get to the show or the part of the show that most of you probably care about and that is. Kevin and I shouting with Aaron Donald about all things rams and all things. Nfl Okay we are joined now by perhaps the best player in the national football league rams Huntsville Lineman Aaron Donald Aaron. Thank you for joining us. I want to get started with what's different this year because there's two main things I look at when it comes to you number one. You had your first training camp since twenty. Any six teen thought that was interesting and then obviously you have the sort of super bowl hangover. If you were to think about what's different both with you and with your team from September two last September. What is the main difference older bruce. You know you know you know. He had a lot of the down a lot of good experience that we had to make us that much of a better team and not go through things like that and goes adversity doing doing the show shopping that just make us that much of a coach. Game Australian team a little bit more football salt. WanNa come come game family in China. Finally went also think anything was strongest. Was I register lane the other day that said you woke up at four thirty in the morning when in highschool to work out what what time do you wake up now just so we're clear our goal for thirty two off a six prosperity still pretty early four thirty no more to workout yeah earlier in my dad worked out before on this. Oh yeah no I get that okay okay so I wanNA talk a little bit about your your career because one of the things I think is interesting as you were dinged for your size. in an era. I think that we care about is less and less because of you and on the other side of the ball you have quarterbacks getting smaller and smaller. That's Baker Mayfield Kyle Murray Do you think that you kind of played a role in how teams view size and it not mattering as much Aaron thank you could you could say that you know. Would you pick stuff on Sam in a lot of things within we got tired of the tallest guy the guy you know what you put enough stuff on him to show associates that you know being a short again and if National Belize kind of upset because we've got that leverage over data six times so I always had to wait always always this is always also You know people decide to be a senior. Thank you know the level people so you know that way but I guess you could say that you know I opened up looking for other guaranteed under Saturday sufficient so Aaron it's Robert Mays. I wanted to ask you something. If I was going back and watching pretty much every sack you had last year and it seems like so often these days you're kind of jumping back inside after lighting up as a technique and I know their weight allows you guys to do stuff like that but I'm curious about how you end up making that decision. Is that something that you typically. No you're going to do both for the sap even starts because a formation or do you kind of do that midstream in the moment. Sometimes you know 'cause information status more reaction things so um. It's all about what you're going to play her daughters from Tim study that you found that what you already knows what happened before the play so a lot of time to that you know people react or he understands happening before the play play play in the fact that it seems like you're doing that a lot more often. Do you feel like that's something that you're doing as a reaction to how guys are playing you just because they're trying to account for your speeds beads so much that you feel like that's just something that you can kind of do as a counter or is that something because. I'm sure you've kind of had to learn the way the guys have dealt with you because I'm sure you see so many different answers answers to the stuff that you do. Is that one of the things you like. You've been able to lean on a little bit more acid. No because you know you've got a lot of different national football elitist in China. you know still you down. Stop you from evanescence. This give them opportunity to get them more dangerous just for the offense they if if if I get the opportunity to make an answer me just finish line. That's when you take that all day. you know a lot of things getting. I'm getting out of it and so you know it's all about what the what I'm saying in in whatever we're asking if he earned you know one of the obvious sort of trends around the league now..

"I feel about people using knives with the pizza. Oh come on man I. I can't believe I said I don't think I've ever seen nobody working on. You seem like you just like regular. That's that's that's you. You seem like you just like regular pizza without the size. How do you feel about stuffed crust pizza? I could do stuff cross pieces. Of course you could be a folding pizza. Do you fall pizza at the end. How do you do that the actor it depends? I've got a couple of more than two concise on a plate snacks this license and you can you explain to me the number number of pizza slices Aaron. Donald can eat in a single sitting if he's just it's a cheap day. He doesn't care he's just gonNa eat the whole thing that she few days I could. I could probably go honestly ten but I hope that I don't WanNa feel bad about myself. I eat kids so six. I feel I how did I you know I just slice right here. What is it cheap day? Look like Aaron Donald Pizza I try not to eat too many sweets so this more pieces of wins for us stuff well so much. Can you explain to us how it happens. How do you go as a three star recruit in high school to not having a whole lot of college teams to getting to the pros and several guys were taken ahead of you and then everybody realizes Oh oh this guy can't be blocked? How does that happen? I was really good at high school. You know I was a guy that was still productive still getting a lot assets to I as an interception in Dallas no biggest guy so. I didn't think that I would be able to translate that the college which is fan fan you know but you know you know. I only had three offers come out of high school. It was Pitt Toledo Akron. I got the tomato African my brother back they go about and so you know with my dream school because once they include him again opportunity you know and you get to college they still a lot of people people still don't think that because you're not the biggest guy I probably wouldn't have no you won't what you about and you know and then it comes to the Jackson in it at the same thing that got my life he's not the biggest guy I don't think he'd be able to hold up in the NFL long arms and he's there the body swallow uh-huh and then the national football league and and you can put it on fan if I okay maybe maybe we can address at the tackle this at six foot two eighty and so dawn on the planet game ten open door for guessing the body types and get get them opportunities. You know so if you could play ball like I was you can play you can play. She's put on for normal on much games before Aaron. It's the first play from scrimmage. You're lined up against the blocker. You haven't faced before. How many snaps does it take you to know? I'm going to dominate this guy all day or this is going to be a little little bit of a challenge I before I even I know that some studies. I'm afraid that Jiang down before I'm already GonNa know his weaknesses knows what I feel. confident from what I've seen no things I've seen him get beat within that seen him probably you know try to do a certain move. He probably got a good count that you know reacting in in in blocked out so before the game you know going to making national confidence right there. You can't go to to test and you know all right away. You gotta go so that's what I do. I started before even the field and you you know that that before that I already got my my mood and I hear what I'm GonNa do dominate just had an and what I've seen them in coffins offense right away so pretty much on the field. I got a little feel Scott's hut hut wind dot com if you want details on what pizza hut is doing with Aaron Donald Donald Aaron Donald with us on ESPN radio AMMO get yet here. I'm wondering do you know the twelve guys that were drafted ahead of you. I think you'd like us. Airports asked me that before. I don't know I know something which I it has to be Blake bortles right the one that just makes you come on. What were they doing? He's esteem eight now. Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott back at practice
"The way zeke is now at practice for the cowboys. He signed his contract about fifty million bucks a year which is top of the class. It's in that todd gurley class and i know the rams this morning love their todd gurley contract is he got hurt but zeke zeke is an important player. I don't buy that zeke's the most important player i think dak prescott is the franchise. He's gonna make over double zeke makes he's the guy went in front of the microphone. He's the guy won't touch the ball late but zeke isn't a lot of wow he's twenty three touchdowns thirty five hundred yards but he went a bunch of games and i think he's a grown up in an adult and i think it's dax team. I don't think it's zeke's team. Although i think zeke is really talented. I think aaron donald really talented but i think it's jared goff's team in sean mcvay team not aaron donald in los angeles but i will say if you're a high school running back in college running back n._f._l. Running back this is a good day for you because zeke got paid and there is this narrative out there now that running backs analytically don't deserve the the money

"I watched him in was the two thousand seventeen game at gerry world beginning. Remember it came down at halftime in. We lost sean lee at halftime yeah. I remember your quarterback there. Yeah the guy who out q._b._r. Jared goff. He had an eighty something to a fifty something in that game in that game arundel had zero sacks. He had two solo tackles. He had zero assists. I i just don't remember him playing so i've watched all these games and i know that the explorer say oh but she don't understand yeah. I do understand about taurean cendant. If we're talking about domination we're talking about lt and charles haley and reggie white and we're not talking about aaron donald and again. It's it's just silly wrong to say. He's the best player in football. It's give the mistake that i think a lot of people make you included is that you say well. He's not not who the hell is. I can make a case and i let you take tom brady to whomever you won't. I can make a case that lt is the greatest football player ever over jerry over the jim brown over tom brady over montana. I can make that kind of cake because lt may to position payments the left tackle and the rush linebacker but that's that's not what this discussion is about. This is about aaron donald skip. Did you remember the game the monday night game when they played. The ram flayed mall. Did he not flash. He flashed a couple of times in that game skipped last year. This is what he was. He led the league in sacks tackle for loss and q._b. Hits it was the largest gap between one and in two he was four and a half sacks clear of j._j. Watt biggest differential sentence michael straight ahead in two thousand one skip the appear to me evan offensive the player when we went to the meeting rooms on with it and the coaches. We're going to explain to us what we were going to do but who we needed to take care of it. We don't block this this guy. We can't win the game okay. I'll give you that skip. I guarantee you every team that plays the los angeles rams. The first guy they circle is down. We've got about a way to block him okay. We got fly to protect often do find a way to block it was were. That's where you have to have other guys to pick up the slack. If you wanna take shannon sharpe away way that media had to go one on one with ad and wrong if that's what you wanted to do sure have at it get when i watch this guy play he explosive explosive yeah he is off the land and his hand work it is good if any taekwondo karate expert and you'll see it skipped. He can do it all he could rip you. He can misdemeanor argue wax on white. Wet sloppy can wipe your weight he can boo he can.

You don't want that but sometimes you you know the money they make an offer somewhere else or the the money that you seeking <hes> is not what you think it should be. It makes it difficult but if jerry jerry can get close to the number that zeke is asking but there's still no guarantee that he pitches career there because you know these contract did not baseball or basketball all contracts. You know what i'm saying where you okay a little different. Yeah this will get. You hope you'll get nervous labor day. We could ask labor day. I started next. Is it next monday more days shannon and then we can really get on this guy. We gotta go back to that top. One hundred list number we we started the show is aaron donald really the best player in the n._f._l. Enjoy this. We'll discuss that according to over forty n._f._l. Experts from e._s._p._n. Donald is the number one ranked player heading into this season. Donald has also been ranked at the top of both both pro football focuses top fifty list n._f._l. Networks top one hundred list already the rams defensive lineman as two straight defensive player of the year awards awards and donald racked up twenty and a half sacks last season and helped lead the rams to a super bowl appearance but skip yes. This is a question and for you. Do you agree that aaron. Donald is the best player in the n._f._l. I do not furthermore this is become the second most baffling fling phenomenon in all of sports because number one is dak prescott has not made three straight top one hundred type lists and now three straight ties. Is it up to three on aaron. Donald has made number one in all three and i just don't get it because i just don't see it. I'm gonna say it again. I watched a whole lot of lt as in lawrence taylor and he wreaked havoc every game i ever turned on my t._v. T._v. or sat in the press box for you just saw it. Oh they can't block him. I watched charles haley a whole bunch in his career here in san francisco versus dallas and then dallas versus san francisco trust me. You just couldn't block him. He flew off the edge was such rage rage that two people often couldn't block him and he leapt off your t._v. Screen until you said look look reggie. White wasn't always dominant but when he got cranked he became unblock. Oh by two people in the interior linemen sometimes three and he leapt off your screen because he took <unk> over football games. I have yet to watch one aaron. Donald game that he took over obviously is a very very good player but what he's the he's better than any quarterback. He's better than ma homeboy or tom brady van or drew brees. Are you kidding me. This is classic sheep think once again we're one expert said stroke dishes and earned dollar. He something he's dominating these games oh really he he does force double team blocks but then what happens he disappears. I was thinking early this morning before this. We're going to do this topic. Do i need any video video to demonstrate and i thought wait a second. There is no video because i don't know any highlights. I'm sorry i don't have a lot of highlights because in his postseason career aaron aaron donald has a half a sack last year in three playoff games he had zero sacks and i realized he plays more interior than edge edging but still if you're reggie white if you're that guy you just flash all over the place you get your hands on the quarterback so against dallas in the playoff game last year the two solos and zero assists and i don't remember him playing at new orleans and that plastic playoff game he had two solo tackles and zero sis against. It's the patriots he had one solo in the super. Bowl and four assists okay four sis- is okay but i don't remember him in the super bowl. I'm sorry i don't and yet in the big picture. I even go back to the first dallas game..

Aaron Donald relishing first Rams training camp since 2016
"Rams training camp breaks over the weekend and one story we were accustomed to seeing was not a thing Aaron. Donald is actually their last two years Aaron Hotel no Aaron Donald is actually they're participating in an actual training camp. The last couple seasons Aaron. Donald hadn't been there as part of a contract hold out last year. They came to the terms and Aaron Donald. Actually there and Donald is looking to become the first player in N._F._l.. History to win defensive player of the year three times in a row the only other people who've done it two times in a row Lawrence Taylor eighty one eighty two J._J.. Watt in two thousand fourteen and fifteen so Aaron Donald Looking this season to make some history as the rams are obviously looking to get to the Super Bowl and win at this time. It's GonNa be difficult as can be very difficult and is not a based upon the results. It's not based upon his play is based upon human tendency
NFL Trade Rumors and Buzz
"And they're like what is the buzz about here? And I was like we'll Cuyler Murray's Wayne, but he's not even gonna test. Yeah, there there isn't mother isn't a there isn't one specific thing that people are really buzzing about I think there's a several position groups that are really interesting. I think the offensive linemen and the receivers have some really interesting players receivers, particularly there's like the whole spectrum of type of players. I mean, you've got decay Metcalf. You've got I came and then he got Markey's Brown, and like smaller shifty guys you've got AJ Brown who looks like a running back playing receiver. There's just all kinds of guys in. So there there's a lot of I think if you're if you're gonna say there's buzzer excitement about anything. It's it's watching receivers as watching the offensive lineman, obviously defensive lineman is going to be huge this week. Oh. Ed oliver. I think that was actually kind of an interesting thing this morning, he weighed in I think it to eighty seven. So that was a good way for him. That's plenty. Yeah. That's like more than what Aaron Donald waiting now. Obviously that's a comparison. That happens a lot. I don't think he's earned Donald. But he's a very good player very explosive and being at two eighty seven is a very good number for him. We'll see how he tests. I think that he over the next few days he could generate a lot of buzz of among the receivers. Is there anybody that you particularly like, it's just one of your guys? I think you came about a starting to he started to I I mean, I'm standing out to you a little bit. As things you've said to me in tweeted, I'm reticent to say, he's my guy because I there are worries with him in terms of drops and his like, he's just massively few look at his web chart on. Oh credible through the measurements. It's just he's like ninety eight th percentile in every day. Big, man. I think actually I heard that he set the record for wingspan at receiver position at the combine almost eighty four inch got. Yeah. So he's got an insane catch radius. I'm a little worried about like. You know, his ability to separate his his consistency as a catcher, but he has immense upside I'll put it that way like his ability to get behind. The defense is really good. He's really long strider really fast. So I wouldn't necessarily say he's like, you know, my pound the table guy. But I do like him a lot. I'm really interested to see how akilah Harry runs think. He's just kind of one of those guys that's really polarizing right now because we're from Arizona state. He he's a guy that is like really big physical super productive. But he's also sort like, there's he's kind of in the alshon Jeffery shor mold where you're like Kenny separate or is he gonna have to only sorta use his body in wind contested catches and things like that. I think he's going to be really interesting. The Stanford guy JJ JR Sega white said Whitehead is really interesting player. He's like form basketball player box out king. Like if you watch him they just throw it up into the end zone.
Super Bowl 2019: Pregame coverage before Patriots vs. Rams
"Rams fans have been waiting for this day for oh. So very long. In fact, the LA Rams haven't been to the Super Bowl and ages, but they'll take on Tom Brady and the patriots this afternoon while the two teams were going through their final preparations to fans here in Atlanta were really just getting started the area near the stadium is jam packed. And I've met Rams fans from all over the place from North Carolina and Atlanta to Vancouver to Bakersfield, and corona and a couple of fans came from by Sailya in central California. They're here too and keeping up the faith for an LA victory. I think the players are ready. What do you think? I think we ain't done yet. They'll get it done. Not if the patriots can help it and saints fans, they may not be rooting for them either. I've talked to a couple of them who are still simmering over that pass interference call that wasn't. You know saints is supposed to be here today. No question about it not together yet. We still we still taking it hard. Yes. They are. I saw billboard along the freeway with the saints logo. That said we were robbed Rams fans though. Just shrug it off on the way to their Super Bowl seats in Atlanta. John Baird KNX, ten seventy NewsRadio. I'm Jan Stevens. Aaron Donald is again named the NFL's defensive player of the year. It's the second time in as many seasons. The LA Rams player had a pass rush win rate. A forty six percent during the regular season, which is the highest in the league Donald spoke earlier about going to the Super Bowl. Well, this is the big dance, you know, playing great football year with this. This is the last one you got your best football. It's the biggest stage. The bigger stage ever played on. So. We just gotta keep playing football too high level. Don't forget what got us here with, you know, leave everything one more time. No one more game opportunity award champion. Super Bowl 2019: History says Rams vs. Patriots in Atlanta could be another all-time classic
"It is the once and for all finally, we have reached. Super Bowl fifty three a game that will be played down in Atlanta, Georgia. Right around six six twenty between the New England Patriots in Los Angeles. And I think it's now time for me to admit the bitterness the anger the bad feelings I had towards this year's game have to come to an end. Because now it's game time. Now, we will think about degrade. Bella check in the great Brady. Yes. Paul for. The course something we've seen quite a bit over these last seventeen eighteen years Brady and Belichick getting ready and preparing for the night's Super Bowl going up against the boy wonder the next great young coaching store in the NFL, Sean McVeigh, and he's very very talented, Los Angeles. I'm steam and remember, despite the fact that the Rams got the benefit of the whistle. And did not get that penalty. Flag down in New Orleans. Does. The fact that this Rams team all year one of Vegas favorites to win this year Super Bowl. The Rams come into this game. We're Boorda talent. That's why you think about where this line opened up opened up with the LA Rams, basically is a one point favorite. Now that has changed you're going to see New England anywhere from two and a half to three maybe it falls to two we will have to wait and see. The reason New England is going to get that. Nod as far as being a favor, according to Vegas, according to a good amount of you. It's because of what those two gentlemen, had done throughout their entire NFL careers. It's very tough to go into these Super Bowls and pick against Tom Brady and Bill bell check. And I've done it on a couple of occasions that didn't last year had success with Philadelphia Eagles for some of you. You may be did it against the Atlanta the Seattle Seahawks and you can have success when it's twenty eight three falcons. We know what happened. Now, you're probably thinking you're going to have success bet against Tom Brady and Bill Belichick went Seattle and curse makes the spectacular catch. And they're inside the five yard line and marshawn Lynch does not get the ball. And Russell Wilson is intercepted. One of the greater Super Bowl mysteries in the history of my lifetime. This patriot team all year. According to most of us. Fans media, whoever you may be maybe thought they were losing a little bit. Maybe thought that this team didn't have the same offensive firepower. How long can Tom Brady continue to dominate on the north side of forty how much gronk have left. What about the loss of Josh Gordon who they brought in to be a big play weapon? Just goes to show you when you count out the New England Patriots. You're making a monumental mistake. And our molested picked against the patriots in the division around. Bingo well against the patriots two weeks ago championships Sunday instinct classic game. No went to overtime Tom Brady and the pats Bill Belichick and the pats still at team that's left standing. The Rams dole have avenues and ways to win this game. You don't work it. The Rams, nor should you look at the Rams. The way he did on now. The two thousand seven New York Giants who were an overwhelming underdog coming into the game. And we know what happened. The giants won a game prevented the nineteen year. You don't have that here with New England in Los Angeles these evenly matched games. In fact, you could argue one through fifty three you liked the talent of the Los Angeles Rams. A little more. Not crazy. Take reds gonna win this game. If we're sitting here Monday morning, and I'm breaking down Tom Brady going five and four now in Super Bowl games. You will need to see I think to specific keys paramount. The first band, and this is a given any time you're going up against Tom Brady, you better hit him. You better get them into the ground. You'd better sack him. Your pasteurized. Gotta do some work. I won't get Aaron Donald. I look at consumer the interior pass. Rush four. The LA Rams is going to have to play a major role. You did about age rushers. You ain't going to find a better pair of edge rushers Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram. I thought off the age those guys we're gonna get the Tom Brady. But remember the game plan for New England was so good net game. He's getting rid of ball, one one and a half seconds. Two seconds bowl. It's out. So you can generate much pass rush. You get them up the middle of changes things a little bit. Aaron Donald wanna show me wise best fence player in the league. Superbowl Madama can sue who has made plenty of all pro teams over the years. Now has his chance in his first Super Bowl to go wreck. Tom Brady, he's had some big games and postseason remember one when he was with Detroit against Dallas Cowboys was in Tony romo's face. Play off the play off the play. I remember game last year. I went to data south Florida when Dominic can sue was over Tom Brady, make your life miserable. For Tom Brady to me. That's data happen. Then you have on the offensive side for LA. Todd Gurley who is one of the most electrifying playmakers in the sport. Who I would argue is the best running back in the sport. Has in. Exactly been that player. Let's be fair. Even if you look at it as a hundred yards that he had against Dallas in the divisional round. Is that what you're going to remember about that game? Of course, dont. No, you have one or two big Ron's that came was all about C, J Anderson and his ability to run the football. You at the championship game Elliott had far more success. Throwing the football running the football. We now has basically two weeks to rest up. We'll see if he's much closer to one hundred percent. I can't envision the LA Rams winning this game and Todd Gurley. He's not gonna play a major role. You know, Bella check will look to take away what you do best. Now. That's the great chess match between these still McVay and Goth trying to get to the line of scrimmage quickly. Surveying the landscape of the field and in China to figure out what they're going to do. And Bella check and his mastery China counteract at the more and more thought about that the more and more fun this Super Bowl matchup become for me. I have to admit because that idea of Sean McVeigh China show a guy. Analyzed a guy that a lot of coaches around the league now who are having great success did going to idolize Bill check because they're going to look at him as the modern day will forty gigging to look at him as a modern day Paul Brown where nobody's doing what he's doing. All these coaches seem to have a shell five all these coaches, even if they're in a job for a long period of time, they have that downturn. John Harbaugh had that downturn Tom Coughlin eventually had that downturn. Mike Tomlin now was having that downtown with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dan, never happens for Bill Belichick and the patriots. They don't miss the postseason. They've only done so twice in seventeen years. Never missed the playoffs since two thousand eight and that was when Tom Brady tours ACL they are used to being in the big game. Wait a variety of different players, and how can McVay now with a roster has maybe a little more talent. Make the necessary adjustment. If need be at halftime figure out. All right. They're taking this guy away. We're gonna make this guy star or that guy star. It's fun

So I'm a softer run. In the thing. I want to do is take away. And I thought that they did a very good job last week taken away. He's too ethnic. Clinic. And so I think he's a very disruptive guy. So I cannot let him get into the backfield and be disruptive. He's also can be disruptive in the passing game. So you know, that's one thing that Aaron Tom Brady will be aware of where is Aaron. Okay. If I had an open draft no quarterbacks. You got first pick. Right now, Donald okay. I think I think he's the most disruptive player defensive player there is. And I say that for this reason because I think of the game has become a very quick throwing game. We used to talk about edge rushers before. But I think the inside rusher is quickest bought to a quarterback. And this guy is the most disruptive guy football. Well, the edge rusher. It is strange as it's going to sound can't get there quick enough. Whereas if you have somebody who can go because I think if you beat the patriots, I gotta have strong guys up the middle ravens. Did this the giants when they beat Bella check. And Brady, I gotta have that. I gotta start there. And if I start there, I feel pretty good because it's gonna make my secondary. Look a whole lot better. Right. What do you think? Oh, absolutely. I mean, I think Aaron Donald coming up and try to get him into a one on one match up. You know, we go back to what they used to do with Reggie White. You put five guys across the board. And you put Reggie White. I on the center what's a quick distance between two straight line means Joe Greene to used to line up, right? Senator I'm telling you Alan page of. Guys are the most disruptive people in that. He's a three down player. And I think you know to me that's the guy final question for coach last time. You were in a fight last time. I was in a fight yet. Oh, man. I was playing I was a player. I fought all the time when I played well. Why are you? So angry. Because that's that's how I played. Did you play I played angry? I did I played. I was different player when I stepped on the field. I had to I wasn't very big. And I wasn't very fast. But that was going to out will you and so I had to get manager. I make it personal. I made a personal issue. Have an off the field fight in college. Out of work out. I always walked away. Okay. Would your chin be an advantage or disadvantage, if you were if you were a boxer you like you give me a big target there? Yeah. Right. I don't know. Is it good or bad? Well. Probably not a good thing dot com. But you know, it wasn't always this big. Can you take a punch? Oh, yeah. Okay. Paulie, come over here. Coward. Dan, there's some people you look at and you look that like if you punched him he would like laugh and smile and then punched you back..
All 12 playoff coaches are tied to Bill Walsh or Parcells
"The head coaches in the playoffs that season come from the coaching. Trees of other Bill Walsh for Bill Parcells Abella check. Anthony Lynn, Sean Payton. All coached under Parcells Jason Garrett and Bill O'Brien are further down the Parcells coaching tape. But they all come from the Bill Parcells coaching tree. And that means the other seven come from the Bill Walsh coaching tree. Andy Reid coached under Mike Holmgren was Walsh disciple. Four others come directly from Andy. That's John Harbaugh. Matt Nagy Doug Peterson and Frank Reich. So as we prepare to watch these games this weekend and throughout these playoffs. There is still the influence of those two legendary preeminent coaches of the eighties. If you will in Walsh and parcels what what thoughts Trump to your mind? When you see that? Look, I know that Bill walls is someone who is highly highly respected by guys like parcels end by guys like Bill Belichick. He's at the very very top of this whole thing. And they as far as situational football's concern, and as far as really just being able to build an entire football federation. He's set the standard everyone else is trying to follow now. And now is it is pretty cool though to watch kinda how bills people have done how Andy Reed's people were doing. I mean, it's it's really neat. Because really there's only so many things you can do in full. There's only so many formations you can come up with and so many defenses you can run then it just comes down to good play styles. Make fights right and Walsh that the west coast against the smashmouth run the ball in play defense style of ourselves. And if you look at it that still holds true today. Most of the Andy Reid disciples over there. Bill walsh. They're going to get the ball out. Quick. Quick eater intermediate passing game highly rhythmic west coast offense. Then you look at the Bill Parcells disciple disciples, we're going to run the football player action shots down the field and had this big physical defenses that try to beat you up and want to make this game playing the phone booth. You've heard me say this on this show that if the guys that are really good the great coaches right now, and the guys that are going to continue to be one of those eight teams looking for aid coach on finding the guy. "Yep. Paying ten yet? Yeah. I have you know, what the league is. Yeah. I I understand what the league is. And who is truly set themselves. Like, hey, Patrick, Mahomes has been great. There's no question. He's been awesome. Okay. I'll give you that. Drew brees. His being great have either of those guys separate themselves Jared Goff. All three of those guys are Tom Brady. They're all unbelievable. Correct. Yep. Have any of them really separated themselves at all from from the other. No, yeah. I think you can compelling argument. One of those quarterbacks is right now is playing it at at an incredibly high level, and you can make a compelling argument that any one of those guys could be the MVP because they're all playing great, right? Aaron Donald is dominating defense. He's making plays in clutch situations. He's double team. Seventy three percent of the time. And Aaron Donald has sixteen and a half sacks from the inside. That's the NFL MVP. He's the best player in the NFL. The best. Wow. I mean what Mark. You're you're telling me guy who played in a game. That was fifty four to fifty one is the MVP. Yeah. Yeah. That's one eight a couple of big plays in that game. But it was still fifty four to fifty one game. And you're telling me a defensive guy in a fifty four fifty one game in a fifty you know, what's becoming more and more like a fifty four fifty one league can be your MVP. Do there's no again, I go back to my argument in my problem with the Heisman Trophy. There's three guys that are representing the Heisman every one of them quarterbacks. Stay quarterback Oklahoma quarterback Alabama quarterback. You're telling me that there aren't there aren't other guys that are worthy. There are other guys who are great football players. It's not just about numbers. Like, I you know, I it's about being a great player that dude is playing its sixteen and a half sacks leads the league right now. Double team seventy three percent of the time in a league where you literally get what? Eight to twelve opportunities to rush the passer a game. Maybe but we are in the midst of it offensive orgy right now L were they were they throw the ball. It's a three step drop. They throw the ball. It's out of your hands in two seconds. It's like you love a great analogy. Right. You love analogies. I do. All right. You and I are in Vegas, and we decided to crush a buffet. Right. We're saying that that buffet man, we are loading our plates. Right. The plates are just groaning. All the food. They're putting on it. Right. Meanwhile, we got the huff with us. And he's gained a salad. Right. And we look at him. And like, dude, you're surrounded by all this food, and you're just eating a salad, right? That's what you're trying to say here. I in a world in which we've got nothing but offense of numbers an offensive buffet around us. You're trying to make the case for the salad. Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike. We think of that one to huff. No. No, mike. I'm making the case for the salad that has eggs chicken bacon. Who right? You're going full. She soul chefs Alabama. I'm I'm talking. I'm talking Turkey. I mean, every there's some salami on there. Maybe throw on who knows some pasta who I'm talking about. If the side a tuna fish on the right side of that talking about a fourteen thousand calories salad is we'll talk about. Like there's a whole VAT of ranch dressing. Yes. Touche marshall. Yes. Yes. All right. Man. I'm craving chef salad right now. I know it does sound kind. Good little radishes on it. Oh, good stuff. Yeah. All right. All right. All right. You got. All right. So Aaron Donald is your pick for MVP. You know, it's not going to happen though. Of course, it's not gonna have the same reason why you'll never get a defensive player, you know, winning the Heisman. Right. It's not. It's not sexy enough. You can't market it enough. It's not the the did you see the picture him floating around the internet after the game. My God were had a shirt all my God just ripped this. That's two hundred eighty five pounds like that is not taco meat and Jesus. No, his diet is different than mine. Apparently. Lord have mercy. Get the the metabolism of a hummingbird for crying out loud. The incredible hulk. I mean, just. Ripped..

"And I mean, I figure that's only because they're short on funds. You get to Vegas, you start playing there. What not. You'll be making your money back instantly. Well, let's talk about Aaron Donald first before we get like into the whole glinting. It's a good deal. I mean, it's kind of like the whole Aaron Rodgers thing. What are you? Gonna? Do just let them walk away. No, you're not. Aaron, Donald me. I was asking the question while I mean there was talks about like the negotiations and all that does Aaron Donald affect the winds, like just add Winston schedule for the Rams because and I asked that because of the fact that the guys getting quarterback money right now after this, at the end of the segment, we'll be checking before we get into the raiders not we'll check in how much guaranteed money earn Aaron Donald making than all the other quarterbacks. But either way, like I said, I wasn't so sure if Aaron Donald added wins to that team the same way. I mean, you'll get dominant sue the dolphins. I use that example because dominant suit was dominant with Miami. It was easily their best player on the team. And I mean, it was well worth well played up to his worth for the contract. The only problem is no matter how well he was playing. It wasn't really helping the team win. But he didn't have that like that impact. You know, like the guy was dominating and all that doing his job, but it's just didn't get the team wins like the same way a quarterback went, and I only bring that up because these guys are making quarterback money. So I was associated that Aaron Donald had that kind of fact either way. Now, it doesn't matter because they did end up paying him. But I like the deal. I mean, the Rams are incomplete. When now mode, they don't get a Super Bowl within the next three years. And then it's a failure. And like I said, it's a good deal because. A lot of the money's coming in early that they have to pay. And by the time Gough needs his deal, you'll be able to do that. Kind of skeptical of the Rams at first with all the money they were given away, but it seems like they did have a plan as they should have, and this plan should workup..

"The mount we'll take that and run with it but he's they are by the way we're doing ninth as i mentioned but they're the fourth national league team and one and a half hour case closing we're closing again pk hernandez is jack is the kryptonite madison bumgarner he's basically hitting almost five hundred in his career i believe in thirty two at bats again rock bomb gordon the other day yeah i was a little shocker for me i was saturday saturday yeah it was the fox national game it was pretty surprising for sure aaron donald is also in the news guys now aaron donald there is a story about aaron donald today you got paid no problem the story about aaron donald is about his wanting to set the market basically now he wants to kind of reset what guys can look like that are non quarterbacks do you believe that the reigning defensive player of the year can do something like that key can he reset the market for non qb's afterward von miller did recently somebody'll reset it after him so yeah there's just keep resetting always said this people put the quarterbacks in a different box all the time and they don't have to they just do they just feel like the quarterback right is the more superior because he touches the ball the most that's not true that's not true at all and donald is the most important guy on the rams team it's not jeered golf donald yeah wants you to believe that it's the quarterback because a quarterback has always been held to a higher standard in yes all that but you calling games you say all those things but you also but you also say though i mean that's warranted because your head every you every draft if your team without a quarterback you need a quarterback right you made so it's not like type of team you have see if you have a team like we had we had a we service meaning books okay very serviceable quarterback that wasn't going to lose the game for us but was going to help us win but we didn't depend on or offense afire power to win those games dependent on our defense as long as you're serviceable we could plug you in and you.

"All the other factors like the fact that he is one of the best players in you know at his position one of the best defenders in the nfl if not the best defender in the nfl and then all the factors on what the what the rams are doing with takao i think the the decision to sign sue to a fourteen million dollar deal i mean that that is just seems like a slap it almost like a slap in the face donald i mean like they're they're really like playing hearts to that later so like the problems of this off season and how affecting aaron donald here from hits from from donald's point of view i think that would be the most frustrating thing you know that they brought in another guy and paid him you know a ton of money and he's still trying to fight for scraps or whatever so yeah i mean it's yeah there's i don't think there's like you said there's no quarterback are there's no non quarterback who i think you know deserves his you know his reasoning for like a holdout or whatever more than or more than donald so you know it's just really really easy to see his point of view if you're aaron donald agents and you're coming to the table with the rams which they have been doing i'm sure obviously contracts often exist on precedent it's about positional value it's about the guys at that position everything else if we go by that this dialogue and this debate gets sticky very quickly because you have fletcher cox making seventeen million dollars a year he set the market for defensive tackles got twenty sixty three point three million dollars in guarantees obviously that's where the rams probably would like to start what if you're donald i'm assuming that your representatives are going to go a little bit further that and say well that's fine but we're not going to use the defensive tackle market as any sort of barometer here that's not going to be the context of this conversation we're going to look at what the fenders get paid because we have the most impactful defensive player in the nfl independent of the position he plays and that goes beyond awards anything like that if you look at pass rush statistics everything else.

"They're all sides of this maybe the reasons behind some of the rams hasn't and let's start with aaron donald side which is very easy to understand player of the year right he is set to make less than seven million dollars this year on his fifth year option that is half of what dhamma consumer will make at the same position for the same team eighteen l gogel tree who is not on the rams anymore is making six point four million dollars to not play for the rams giants for those they were curious man i would say it's arguable that outside of the maybe the rookie quarterback contracts that are around you know whence they're starting to go by the wayside there are that many guys on rookie quarterback contracts do you feel her top level quarterbacks meter guys that can play but i think you already the winces and maybe a couple others at the most valuable contracts the entire league but i would say of non quarterbacks donald seven million is far the most valuable contract in the entire league and he's the best player in the nfl arguably at his position compared to his peers and you think about the guys at the top of the defender market your von miller making nineteen as an average annual value that contract present two years ago so donald was gonna get a record market setting contract for defensive players i believe he's worth it even as a defensive tackle that's fifteen million dollars or so more than he's going to be making right now this massive jump and he's one of the that contract is a hugely valuable piece for the rance so you can understand why aaron donald is a little peeved drain now i mean if you look at just if you taken away.

"Taper down and everybody going to start understand their role in defence or office schemes well after this season they're going to have to give a deal to brandin cooks if they want to keep him so that's money that could come off their books but the big name that needs a contract is the big man aaron donald less saying that they're not gonna forget about that big man here's less need none of it effects aaron donald he's one of fifty three and i've said plenty of times before we've got we've got that budgeted into the end of the budget we didn't do all this and forget about him for sure well they better not forget about him because he might be the best defensive player in the guy is you know when i go out see him play i go back to when i first got to new england big at washington and what i'm comparing aaron donald to take washington ted commanded two guys on him at all times donald's the same thing this guy is so explosive and he commands two guys pretty much the whole office line and nowhere where he is you got to pay him this is the guy that makes it easy for the peterson and he's gonna make their job easy so you gotta pay him it's scary because you haven't dominic ensue commands that attention going to be lining up right next to aaron donald who you said commands that attention and if i'm an opposing quarterback i'm trying to just get the ball out of my hands as quickly as possible because i don't want those guys coming towards me you know the great thing about that when you have two guys that can push the pocket that's the key you want to push the pocket and you don't want a quarterback to step up and if you can rush you got some good rush ends and quarterback and not step up now that necessarily is throwing mechanics zip on the ball is is not as strong as it would be if he could really step up and go through all the mechanics of the throw of a quarterback so when you have someone like these two guys sue and mcdonald that can push the.
