I don't know if it's necessarily, you know, defense correlating with offense, but I just try to separate defense and offense courtesy and wipe it. Philadelphia Phillies beat New York Yankees 11-7 at home to open twin bill
"The Yankees allowing eleven runs illusion, the opener, the double header with the phillies yesterday, and then they ran into Aaron Nola. In the NIGHTCAP, he gave them all sorts of trouble, but eventually, they got into the Philadelphia both another three to pitch to talk. Line. In the right field, that survey? That's GonNa find the gap. Stanton will score. Harper gets back in talk man stops at second. So a rig double for Mike Talk in the Yankees take a two one lead, ricky. Ricardo. seventh-inning call here on the fan I will say one of the things I like about the no fans is getting to hear the dugout. Big Hits. It sounds like you're at a high school game in central New Jersey on a Wednesday afternoon. He's guys are getting all pumped up there on the bench on the balls, put in play, and you can hear some of that on the broadcast or shallow with an RBI single. He was two for three and the bullpen closed out a three one victories. They split the twin bull, the twin bill rather at Citizens Bank I. Seven inning experience for Aaron. Boone Company? What did he think about? About the first one was too short, and then this one was just right. Make sense considering they dropped the opener before the seventh inning rally Nola struck out twelve over six innings. But the Yankee pitchers kept them in the game as well. Jonathan Isaac. Open, he got seven outs followed by Avalon. Green Auto Vino in Britain the latter earning his fifth save Luke void homered in the second. "Cause online in real time rocket Well, we kind of reset it for when the New York audience on the fan joined us, so I'll reset quickly here, but not to a full spiel. You already heard it. So we talked a lot about the MBA and just all the on going inside the bubble and the excitement of the Western Conference and really, just overall. The competitive nature that we've seen down there. They want to question marks going. It was going to be war. These games going to be played with passion. Did the teams really care about the seating war teams really going to try hard in the bottom of that Western conference and really outside of the pelicans? Everybody's playing hard. So it's been fun to watch. We have discussed the play and the possibility of college football, not existing in the fall, with the Mac deciding to cancel their fall or it was canceled their full Sports Now who knows what's going to happen in the spring? And who knows if other Conferences will follow. Some reports are saying that or at least they're speculating. That uninterested and industry source told Sports Illustrated that He expects An announcement by the end of the week that all the conferences will officially canceled full sports. Now that would be First of all, they will be the smart thing to do. Second of all, I think it would have ripple effects, and it would open things up for the NFL to them Play on Saturdays. Craziness. If you think about what will happen, then we've discussed Major League baseball as well. Specifically with New York and Giancarlo Stanton getting hurt once again. Shocker. I know you're just joining us. Giancarlo Stanton likely headed to and I l stand According to Aaron Boone after Game two of the doubleheader and stand you an issue with the hamstring this after homer in Game one, sans always hurt, and he will not make a break the Yanks in 2020 anyway. But you hope it's nothing major. Although it seems that everything with him seems like it's nothing major at first, and then it turns into something major. But the Yankees split a doubleheader in Tampa win Game one behind Garrett Cole. 8 to 4 and really was beyond the bats and that one Pericles good, not great. Couldn't get through the fifth. And earned a victory. But nonetheless, the Yankees get the win eight before they lose Game two. At night, 53 Aaron Boone gets ejected, arguing with the umpire for Tampa coming close to hitting Yankee batters throwing high and in There's definitely some bad blood between those two teams and always goes way back. And I know Blake Snell was talking trash on. Obviously, the Rays are maybe the only legitimate threat to the Yankees in the American League East. Andi. We'll see what happens in the finale a little bit later on today, at one o'clock, Mets actually won a game. They somehow stop the red hot Miami Marlins. Moreland's who were seven and one Red hot lose a game to the Mets, who get a victory and go to six and nine on the year and the Mets do it with the bats. They got a nice effort on the mound from rookie David Peterson. Oh, now puts together his third straight start. Where he's been solid five innings from him largest two runs, But the bats the big story J. D. Davis continues to rake and being at third base is nice to see the Mets actually have 1/3 baseman now, McNeil again in left field. They have a lot up where Starting to now repeat itself, which is nice to see you. Hasn't been like that in forever with them. So they have 1/3 baseman and JD Davis, who continues to rake another homer for him. He drove in for Pete Alonso starting to get hot the D H. Pete Alonso second day in a row. He was de Aging. He homers and Michael Conforto also hit a two run homer on this one. Those are the guys. The Mets need to get going top of the order of middle of the order getting it done against Miami. Even though the Mets are down one nothing in that game. They came back with the two on the 2nd 2 on the third. And like we said, attacking on runs with those three guys doing the primary damage, that's what they're going to need here. Now we can eat a lot more of it. But they're goingto have to continue Tio produce the way that they did against Miami, and this is an important Siri's being at Miami is you know ahead of them in the National League East on a team that were Expected to be awful. One of the teams at the Met should be better than so Mets trying to now win that Siri's later on today at one o'clock as well, some afternoon baseball locally in New York. We've also been talking about rocky movies. Somehow I got on the top of Iraqi Look, All I did was watch the rocky marathon ranks of movies and was telling me about it. Nelson 3 hitless innings wins debut, Yanks' win 5th in row
"Can keep rolling right along after last night's five to win over the visiting Red Sox gave them five W's in a row and ran their record to a baseball best six and one on the season. James Paxton takes the mound for the Sunday night series finale. Less than 24 hours after manager Aaron Boone rookie Nick Nelson come out of the bullpen to work three hitless innings and pick up a win in his major league debut is I've talked about really since spring and on through summer camp, you know one of the things I'm so excited about his AA lot of the young arms that are knocking on the door, and now Nelson's one of those, you know, and he was. He was great tonight and relief of Masahiro Tanaka was making his season debut coming back from that concussion. Now, If you're planning ahead, the Yanks have had yet another change in their schedule. They'll host the Phillies tomorrow and Tuesday, then play in Philadelphia Wednesday and Thursday before a four game series down a Tampa Bay, which includes a Saturday double header. As for the

"Good. You made it 10 o'clock. I'm Mike McCann Mets, turning the tables on those upstart Marlins tonight. J. D. Davis, a big three run homer in the seventh to extend the Mets to a four run lead. It's eight for New York heading to the top of the night. Down with the trumpets. When Bill you heard right here on the fan, reserving a split. They held off the X 53 in the night cap. That game ending with Aaron Judge missing a game tying home run by just a few feet as he flew out to the warning track in center concern for Giancarlo Stanton. He left the game with a type left hamstring in the sixth inning. Here's manager Aaron Boone. Yeah, it was. It was when he moved up on the wild pitch. That's where it tightened up on him. So you know we're gonna get our film a ride, but it does look like it's an ill situation. Yankees took the opener 8 to 4. Building three home runs Ford Stanton and judge all coming through Garrett Colon on performance. He struck out 10 but didn't make it out of the fifth inning. Ninth inning and Arlington. Now the Ranger's still holding on to the to nothing lead.
New York Yankees to face off against Boston Red Sox without fans
"To Yankees. They're going to go for five wins in a row tonight when they play the Red Sox at the stadium. They beat Boston on Friday 5 to 1 in a most unusual home opener, No fans for the first home game and first game against Boston. It was definitely a little bit different. Aaron Boone watched Erin judge hit a home run for the third game in a row Tonight. Boom gives the ball no Masahiro Tanaka for his 2020 debut. And he does so with much uncertainty in this sport because of the Corona virus, Tanaka said Cases were expected. It is a concern that this is happening. It's kind of a reminder that we really need to be responsible and the action and the behaviour that we take Tanaka through interpreter Shingo

"For Aaron Boone to say I'm gonna bunk with first and second, nobody out a tie game seventh inning, 00 Probably Brett Gardner. And it probably ends there is not pumping with D. J. May you Is he bunting with my talk? Manet? Maybe. I don't know. Some bonding with Gary Sanchez. I don't even think he's bunking with Geo or Shelagh. So it's the way they're built. I know this is a small sample size. But the New York Yankees are not striking out at the same pace they have in the past. So far, and I know teams have played a a different amount of games, and the Yankees have played on average right around as much as everybody else. There's a few teams played 15 games in the A. L. The Yankees have played 13 games in the ale. But the New York Yankees have struck out 114 times that is below the league average. And by below. I mean, it's a lower number. So they're not striking out at that same pace they have in the past. I just don't think they are built. Nor do I think baseball is normally played that way where you're seeing as many bonds with first and second and nobody out they couldn't get the clutch. It They couldn't get that clutch it they could advance the runners, which could have been somewhat productive to when Luke void came up, But it's a sacrifice fly, then maybe Glaber tourist. It's a sacrifice. We Glaber did hit a sacrifice fly, but it was the first in seconds different scenario. You never know. Boy. That's just not the way they're built, and it's not just them. Meanwhile, Major League Baseball Is facing some serious issues with the virus outbreak that is sick and half of the Miami Marlins team They league has suspended the bottom season through Sunday. The Philadelphia Phillies will be sidelined by the pandemic until Friday. You've still got trips up and down the East Coast, the West Coast pass and says This is not The Marlins problem to think that this is going to be unique to only one club. Yankees Sign Gerrit Cole
"Goal taking on Max Scherzer at the end of the day. It's a sixty game season today's day one and manager Aaron Boone, certainly one looking forward to it opening days been a Artemije life my entire life, it's all I know. It's one of the holidays of the year for me and my family, and it's privilege to be a part of a major league opening day. That'll be the case again tomorrow night in as unique. Circumstances I've ever experienced probably, and that is now tonight. Unique no fans in the stands dealing with a pandemic months and months ago. The Yankees got themselves Garrett Cole tonight. They see him for real for the first time in Boone fired up for. We're looking forward to him being able to go out and hopefully go start impacting our team on the field. Field in a huge way starting tomorrow and I'm just excited for him. Because obviously it's been a long time coming for him to this day and I'm excited for him to to really begin his career now with the Yankees very excited for him in numerous ways, here is Ham excited, even though they are dealing with weird circumstances, it still opening day. Yankees the Nationals open the season at Nats Park, and Dr Fauci is going to throw out the first pitch the first game of baseball shortened season. The Yankees will spend the next two days finalizing the 30 man roster We might have seen. But I saw a sneak peek of the opening day lineup last night and that tie against the Phillies with D. J. Lo Mayhew leading off, followed by Aaron Judge Glaber Torres and Giancarlo Stanton. Here's Aaron Boone. Yeah. I mean, there's a good chance that that's what you could see Absolutely. You know, we'll see. Obviously, we'll see if D J is ready. But there's a good chance that that's what it could look like opening day and will make you a late arrival to summer camp because of Copan, 19. He's going to get more live at bats today. But you know once when they started when, during ball around and BP that we saw there She's excited to see the ball coming up, you know, felt a very normal you off for the Yankees players back on the field. "Aaron Boone of the Yankees Joining John. Under the circumstances will usually want to bring you a lot of news and notes and kind of have an interview to finish it off. We're really pretty much centering. Our show around the interviews with a few. Mlb knows that we have so with that being said. Let's hop into John Doing today man. I'm okay I'm hanging in there. Tony how are you doing? I'm doing well. Obviously a all of us I think in this country under a lot of stress as we are most of us are under. Stay at home. Orders in We try to ride this Cove in nineteen Out In this fault. We don't seem really seeing the know how long this is GonNa go but hopefully we can get your mind off of that for an hour and And talk a little bit of baseball. Obviously has missed. We have Aaron Boone coming on later on. But let's start with Noah syndergaard and Chris Sale because John is seems like they were able to get their surgeries done just before Seemingly all the doctors have Kinda shut the unnecessary surgeries now. Yeah they absolutely were. It is obviously very important for their careers but You know pretty debatable. Whether those are essential surgery so I think they got it done at this point and before hospitals got overloaded and No as we spoke about last week in Florida Not New York where hospitals are really pretty much overloaded at this point and You know so. That's good that that's done. I you know I don't know what will happen. for guys that have need surgeries in coming weeks. But hopefully if they're just doing workouts Nobody's Injuring themselves and can get by without any surgery but under the under the radar as you said yes. Hopefully I mean it seems. It seems small at this point to be talking about the guys. Haven't Tommy John Surgery of but in in the back. Those guys minds is their career. So I'm sure there are some guys who weren't able to get the surgeon. I'm sure that's a little bit of a warrior. Another issue that seemingly has bubbled up was the minor league players. And and what would happen with them? It seems like Major League Baseball Has Come up with the plaza. Yeah they're gonNA continue to play the Bay. The minor leaguers now through may so another month at four hundred a week so Some guys will Were at the lower. Ranks might actually get a little bit more money per week and the guys at Triple A. will get less money per week but it's something to tide them over They'll be has to be reasonable here and I think so. Far They have. We'll see how it goes to the rest of the year because Rob Manfred has the power to do what he wants in terms of the minor leaguers They don't have a union At this point there are some people Kind of suggesting they might start one but they don't have a union we're under a national emergency So as the president has declared and that gives management the right to do what you want. So you know rob. Manfred could have been much more heavy handed his paying them something. We will see what happens going forward at this point though. I know there's a lot of concern down at that level and Kobe. Nineteen is not just impacting Major League baseball in the United States. It's also impacting it across the sea. there was supposed to be a cubs cardinals game in London. That has obviously been canceled. John How do you? How do you think Sports the Sports World Resumes Especially Baseball. Their goal their global plan amidst the worldwide pandemic. I you know I'm not a doctor. I'm just speculating. Basically everybody else. I do occasionally talk to people you know. At the last week we were talking about potentially late. May or June first being an optimistic but possible. Starting point at this point. I would say that I've heard that still a dream scenario to me. That's probably a pipe dream. I don't blame them for not ruling that out yet but I think at this point They would happily sign up for July first There are a lot of issues. The News has not gotten better The suggestion of the second wave of the virus coming in the fall Complicates things further. I mean can they get started and have it be a window and then stop after a while? I mean you know. I know that there is concern about what happens if we get started. And then somebody does positive now the whole team quarantine. And how do you go on without a team? I mean let's remember how this whole thing got started with. Sports Leagues. Getting canceled is when Rudy Bear the Utah Jazz Center tested positive and the NBA. Shut down the next day and I just. I texted somebody in. Mlb that night Bandages shut down and they were stunned and the next day shelby did it so you know you can't have players being positive testing positive. You can't have any threat of spreading any illness. I certainly concerned about fans right now. You wonder if if they do have games. Would they be without fans you know games removed? There's still a lot of issues. Mlb is not naming any dates. Tie themselves down. Which I think is smart but I this point as we speak today. I'm feeling less optimistic than I did last week because I saw last night. Press conference but they seem to be very sober about it and they really revealed what could possibly happen with this virus in it is not pretty. The news is certainly not good on on. What's ahead of us in terms of covert nineteen? John talked a little bit about the minor leaguers in in how Major League Baseball was going to take care of those guys. We haven't talked about the guys on on big-league Rosser what has come of the conversation between Major League Baseball and Major League Baseball Players Association. Yeah well they. They did come to an agreement a week ago and you know part of the agreement. Mlb will bear one hundred seventy million dollars toward player salaries so that will give a major league players some money to tide them over so a very small percentage something like around five percent or less of of their salary but again the rob. Manfred with a National Emergency Act having been activated He's eligible to do what he wants. For the most part I mean you could always go to court and CEO at goes but I was a very positive that they were able to get a deal done of some sort and there will be some money paid to the players. But not every player is Garrett Cole. Making a thirty four million dollars a year or Bryce Harper or Mike Trout. You know a lot of the players You know they're not obviously indigent but Many of the players are just starting out and some of them are journeymen and Certainly created a lot of worry stress for Major League players. One hundred seventy million dollars intended to alleviate some of that for those were major leaguers but maybe on the lower rung of things but Main right now they get the service time if there is no season they did say that there's no season Service time will be gotten by players Based on what they played in two thousand nineteen so that was a major worry about for major league players they they saw that as a potential loss of hundreds of millions of dollars and owned free agency. So we know that if there's even if there's no season mookie Betts and Trevor Bauer and Wilton Simmons and all the top players who were due to be free agents after this year still would be free agents and certainly that creates a complication for the dodgers who gave up a lot including jeeter downs. A great prospect to get moving bets may not even see him play so could be a very big complication for them. Negative one So there's still a lot of possibilities. Were not sure. We're still hoping that there can be a season we will. We talked Aaron Boone. We will ask him what he thinks of the chances for a season coming up but You know right now. I feel a little more negatively than I did last week but you know Hopefully we'll start to see some progress. And we'll start to see that curve flatten. Hopefully we will see some major league baseball this year. I'm I'm not thinking it's going to be the hundred forty games they were hoping for. But even if it's eighty games I'll take it at this point. Maybe that's me I don't know what do you think Tony? I'm willing to bet that we'll take anything we can get eighty sixty five seventy. We'll take anything at this point because it certainly doesn't go without noticing that sports is heavily. Missed right now so Before we get to our Aaron Boone interview though I I've noticed John Net in the NBA. The they've got the the whole NBA Two K. Twenty Tournament. They got some of their players that participate in those video games. They're actually airing it on. Espn got me thinking. Why is it Major League Baseball? Do on this well why. Why don't they get guys like my trout? Mookie Betts important bellinger to get these video games. Just to keep the game at the forefront of people's moments of MLB players. Do play those games. And you're a much more hip fellow than I am younger. And I'm GonNa before you on that one. I you know I never would have thought of it. I don't follow it with the NBA doing it And by the way with all that contact sports I. I'm not sure we're GONNA see them for for a long long time Not to be negative. But I'm gonNA divert you on that one. I know people love it and people love to see Stars playing it so I I don't I actually I think about it. I don't think that's a bad idea. It's not something maybe I would watch as a fifty nine year old man. Maybe that's why. Mlb It's run by people like me. But I think maybe they should have more people like yourself involved and maybe they would get kicked going on this John Lewis and I think I have four young children. It's a new thing where they enjoy watching other people play video games. I can't wrap my mind around. It seems to be like the new craze so it wasn't anything that can keep baseball Goin' and give people a just a little bit of taste of it. I think it would be a positive absolutely for right now. I've been watching the MLB network watching the classic games as Website Matters Yankees this morning but you write for someone who wasn't around twenty five years ago to see that game. They may not be as interested in. They may prefer to watch somebody else play video. I can't imagine that either. But you know again your young man you have young kids and if they like it. I you know. I think that the baseball wants to get more young fans. So it's probably a pretty good idea. Yeah certainly certainly different time certainly different times all.

We've been dealt <Speech_Male> our share <Speech_Male> here early on <Speech_Male> obviously Sevi- <Speech_Male> going down <Speech_Male> and knowing we're GONNA lose <Speech_Male> him for the season <Speech_Male> You <Speech_Music_Male> know Kinda <Speech_Male> hurting for him <Speech_Male> and what that means <Speech_Male> for him but <Speech_Male> we also feel like <Speech_Male> we're very equipped <Speech_Male> to handle <Speech_Male> it and move on and still <Speech_Male> go out and do our thing <Speech_Male> and <Speech_Male> As far as some of the other <Speech_Male> guys you mentioned <Speech_Male> I still <Speech_Male> believe they're going to be <Speech_Male> on <Speech_Male> the shorter sides of things <Speech_Male> I just <Speech_Male> just spoke <Speech_Male> with Aaron judge <Speech_Male> before I walked <Speech_Male> out here. He's doing <Speech_Male> so much better. <Speech_Male> We feel like he's in <Speech_Male> a pretty good spot <Speech_Male> here. Moving forward <Speech_Male> Giancarlo. <Speech_Male> You know. It's unfortunate <Speech_Male> with the cap strange <Speech_Male> at <Speech_Male> calf strain. But <Speech_Male> you know at <Speech_Male> the end of things it's <Speech_Male> it's it's a great <Speech_Male> one calf strain <Speech_Male> so we're <Speech_Male> GONNA make sure that's completely <Speech_Male> healed but <Speech_Male> we also don't necessarily <Speech_Male> think that's a <Speech_Male> long term situation <Speech_Male> and we <Speech_Male> do feel like James Paxton <Speech_Male> is is moving <Speech_Male> according to plan <Speech_Male> and <Speech_Male> You know probably scheduled <Speech_Male> to start throwing <Speech_Male> here in the next week or <Speech_Male> so so <Speech_Male> We we do <Speech_Male> feel good about <SpeakerChange> the prognosis <Speech_Male> of a lot of our guys. <Speech_Male> All right so <Speech_Male> all of those are good. And then <Speech_Male> you have to take great comfort <Speech_Male> in the fact that you can hand <Speech_Male> the baseball now <Speech_Male> two Garrett Cole <Speech_Male> on opening day <Speech_Male> and see what he can do a <Speech_Male> lot of people believe he is the <Speech_Male> best pitcher in <Speech_Male> baseball. What are <Speech_Music_Male> your expectations for <Speech_Music_Male> him? <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> That he'll continue <Speech_Male> to go out and be <Speech_Male> the best or certainly <Speech_Male> one of the best pitchers <Speech_Music_Male> in the game. <Speech_Music_Male> You know <Speech_Music_Male> we obviously made a <Speech_Music_Male> huge commitment to Garrett <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Music_Male> based on <Speech_Music_Male> him being <Speech_Music_Male> one of the Great <Speech_Music_Male> Aces in our sport <Speech_Male> in the prime of his <Speech_Male> career. But <Speech_Music_Male> we also made that <Speech_Music_Male> commitment. Because we <Speech_Music_Male> feel like we're getting a special <Speech_Male> person <Speech_Male> and and a guy that's <Speech_Male> going to impact our <Speech_Male> our room our clubhouse <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> That has all the intangible <Speech_Male> things that <Speech_Male> you want in a player <Speech_Male> that are hopefully <Speech_Male> going to lend itself <Speech_Male> to him having longevity <Speech_Male> to <Speech_Male> him positively <Speech_Male> affect in our culture <Speech_Male> <hes> <Speech_Male> to him hopefully <Speech_Male> having a positive <Speech_Male> influence on the rest <Speech_Male> of our staff <Speech_Male> and <Speech_Male> he's been everything <Speech_Male> as advertised <Speech_Male> here in the early days <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> of camping <Speech_Male> in in just <Speech_Male> a and <SpeakerChange> he's throwing <Speech_Male> the ball incredibly well <Speech_Male> and <Speech_Male> then a final thought. <Speech_Male> I know that you have answered questions <Speech_Male> about this. Before <Speech_Male> for those in our audience who've <Speech_Male> not yet heard from you what <Speech_Male> sorts of conversations <Speech_Male> after your <Speech_Male> team was one of those <Speech_Male> loss to the Astros in the <Speech_Male> postseason and all the <Speech_Male> controversy that <Speech_Male> has surrounded that during <Speech_Male> this spring training. What conversations <Speech_Male> <SpeakerChange> have <Speech_Male> you and your players had about <Speech_Male> that. <Speech_Male> Yeah <Speech_Male> I mean we've had a lot <Speech_Male> of them <Speech_Male> You know some <Speech_Male> from real raw <Speech_Male> one on one <Speech_Music_Male> conversations <Speech_Music_Male>

Yankees blow as Severino out for season

"Fifteen well enough the golden globes are the Academy Awards but it's still awards time in baseball Kevin that's right Rocco Baldelli of the Minnesota Twins name the American League manager of the year yeah edges out Aaron Boone or the Yankees by ten points in a vote of the baseball writers Mike shields of the cardinal's name the National League manager of the year in a close vote with Craig Counsell
Astros, Yankees turn to bullpens for ALCS Game 6
"After a stellar outing from James Paxton led them to a game five win the Yankees turning to their bullpen for game six of the ALCS tonight in Houston Aaron Boone has yet to announce a starter planning to piece things together from his pen to try and force a game seven the Astros will do the same I think it's both teams trying to trying to get out and and trying to do it the best way we can you know with that some obviously a lot of guys go down this year and you know different different people not available so we'll just do our best to piece it together bonus had success using Chad green as an opener this season the yanks eleven and four in games he's opened Alex
Verlander can't close out Yanks; ALCS heads back to Houston
"Baseball the Yankees summer twice in the first inning and beat Justin Verlander the Astros for one to stay alive in the ALCS series heads back to Houston and does so fast and so game six will belong to the bull pens and Aaron Boone doesn't care if you like it or not I think it's both teams trying to trying to get out and and trying to do it the best way we can you without some obviously a lot of guys go down this year and you know different different people not available so we'll just do our best to piece it together neither bill nor a change of the Astros is named a starter if there is a game seven that'll be more traditional Luis Severino Gerrit Cole schedule to
Bullpen day: Yanks, Astros to use pens in Game 4
"Houston skipper AJ Hinch planning to piece together a bull pen game for game four on Wednesday and Aaron Boone thinking the same for his yanks for Wednesday will be kind of a bull pen day and and again can obviously depends a lot on what happens tomorrow you know Jay hap could very much be in the mix as well as I pictured our bullpen been been unleashed in that day but mother nature could intervene there's rain in the forecast Wednesday and if the game is postponed it's possible both teams would go back to their game one starters on regular rest Thursday Zachary Kian Masahiro

"Yogi twitter is pissing me the gods such a horrible hi how do wrong this was a guy who had never managed before at any level never even been benched coach AH Tober seventh and this is the lead felt like something was happening there is something of emotion in the past because you can't pay this isn't a story the interview the athlete it stays with you arrest in this sort of goes without saying but could you just describe it means to be the manager of the New York Yankees Yeah I mean you're you're talking about obviously one of the most storied professional sports franchises and America or North American sports you're talking about a team whose one twenty seven world championships and you're talking about a fan base that expects to win and the world series every single year So you add in the history you add in the tradition and you add the expectations in a market like New York and you could arguably that it is the most pressurized or most pressure packed job in in sports and so the guy that now has this job of course is Aaron Boone and he's followed a very unconventional path to get there but he's also from a very well known baseball family and he is the son of Bob Moon base et cetera bail Mattie Brio scored man access to score the phillies latest John was the son of Ray Boone and right there you have the first family in baseball history to put three generations in the major leagues his brother Brett made the major leagues a few years before Him who hits t to right field going back modestly on the track on Wall Red Bull what pitch one homerun this was a family that was essentially baseball royalty yet I think you can call them bowl royalty and of course there's the thing that Aaron Boone is best known for his home run in game seven of the two thousand three in that homer of course knocked out the red sox and extended the curse of the Bambino and red sox fans have never forgotten the name Aaron Boone I do think that he is still to a certain red sox Perrin Aaron bleeping food.

"Could be the major league baseball postseason is in full swing and one of those series that we're keeping a close eye on is the Yankees and twins right and the twins historic playoff struggles have just continued. I mean they've lost today is about a guy who is being very closely watched in this series and a guy who's been under the microscope in New York for two years now the Yankees manager Aaron Boone Right I mean let's remember that when Aaron Boone was hired before last season it was kind of surprising the New York Yankees have decided on new leader precip Aaron Boone is the next team manager would hire somebody why he's never been a major deserve it in the dugout coach and suddenly he was now taking charge of the most iconic team in baseball right and yet so far has done pretty well and so on offers us spoke with the athletics rest dodd fout Boone's unlikely path to becoming the Yankees manager and some of the things that make him such a colorful character everything from player impressions to spending time in the boot yeah and we talked about how in Boone second season he's turned his doubters into believers it just as a quick heads up for listeners this episode includes a couple of curse words from wondering and the athletic I'm under skelter and I'm can beat the Davidson it's.

"And I was like. How 'bout? About boone. How about are? You used to work with Aaron Boone at ESPN. You guys are tight guys each other's number. That's yeah. So why don't you just sit there and Buna text message series at Dallas pulls out his phone starts typing. Mid text from his phone lo and behold who's standing right there. The steakhouse Darren boot. Boot any staring, right. At me. The Dow's gets up walks over to Aaron Boone they're talking. I'm sitting at the table by myself. Now, some this is awkward I feel like I should get up and go over there. And at least introduce myself. I fuck I am like whatever I'll just high. So I walk over there. You know, there's a break in the conversation between Aaron Boone Dallas braiding and like the bone Jag Kravis. Nice to meet you stick out my hands, shake his hand. He's like. I know who you are. It was a playful, but fuck you away, then to be honest with the ARIS spec that are specked out a lot respect the fact that. Does if we did interview him when we interview him again for a second time because I did the same thing with at noon, IOUs, if I've ever tweeted something bad about you. I'm not gonna hide from that. I literally read at Nunez. My mean tweet about him whenever he made made an error in the field. I tweeted how often do you think what are Nunez thanks to himself? What the fuck am. I doing on a baseball field. And I read that tweets him. Yeah. Whenever you make an error. Yes. But I'm countable, and I will fact. Yeah. It's big j shit. Yeah. I mean, I'm I don't even know if he's ever seen it. But I'm because the people that follow me on Twitter, and then listen to the podcast go. Yeah. Yeah. You buddy buddy with new is now 'cause you had on your podcast, you tell them about all the shit that you tweet about him. Yeah. No, I read him might sweet I read it to them. I will do that again with Aaron Boone because I want to read him might tweet that said. Something to the effect of do people realize that aren't Boone is the manager of the New York Yankees because he hit one home run fifteen years ago. I still in compared that statement to sort of Dallas braiding Dow's Brayden throws a perfect game in major league baseball. And then he gets the ESPN gig. Now is in barstool Dow's Brayden, very smart baseball mind. Very funny. Great personality. He looks like animal from the Muppets. So he's I mean, there's a lot. There's a lot there. There's a lot there to work with. But the gateway to that was the perfect game with Aaron Boone if he doesn't hit that home run in game seven of two thousand three I'll see us against the Red Sox is he's the manager of the today. I don't think so that was sort of the gateway to be like and Boone is now a guy. So then that unlocks the, hey, let's go to ESPN now that is that ES. ESPN? This is a good baseball mind. We know that now comes from a strong baseball family. Now, he's manager of the Yankees. Does he manage the Yankees ever doesn't hit that home run? I don't think he does. I would like to ask are you aware of this you so aware enough to knowledge this so fired up so angry? I'm not angry. I'm passionate. I am passionate about asking the questions that the ninety seven year old fucking ball. Beat writers are not gonna ask these guys because I think and that's the beauty of barstool. And that's that's why I wanted to get to these winter meetings getting front of these people. Hey, you know, we're not just hiding behind our keyboards..

"The game. Like, I should do. So were his were saying. No, I was it was, you know, from again, you know. You remember what time? All the time. I always go the blueprinting before getting a quickly so over when he got his normal. Pitches. Routine faced his couple hitters down there. So now no issue with that. He had plenty of warm up here. He had what he intended to go down there and get Larry said he was able to get through his his normal routine where he faces a couple hitters and everything. So it wasn't an issue. All right. This is from me answ with both Luis Severino number one. And you just heard, of course, from Aaron Boone Boone did not deny in what you heard and what he is possibly said since that sound bite. He certainly has said that. Yes, Severino was ready. But did not deny that he started warming up late, and what you heard from Severino just a few seconds ago. Was there basically in so many words, Ron darling didn't know what he was talking about? And it was darling on TBS who has all the credibility as a human being number one. Whether you're a met fan or not that has nothing to do. There. He is impartial and fair as he has always been doing a national broadcasts. Make no mistake naughty. But the most diehard Yankee fan would say otherwise darling reported early in the broadcast that Severino for the most part. Didn't know what time the game started. He thought possibly that. It might have started a when his wildcard game started which was after eight o'clock. And of course, the game started at around seven forty two and Darlene was talking about him warming up not warming up until seven thirty to about ten minutes before the game started. And of course, there was a caller we had now again, I mean, the caller certainly sounded sincere said he was at the game said he took a picture with a smartphone of several Nino playing catching the out. Outfield at seven twenty nine. So again, and Ron darling as all the credibility in the world. And I can understand Severino saying, hey, no, everything was normal. And but here was Aaron Boone talking about. No, no, no, no, hold on a minute. Don't get carried away in. So many words don't get carried away. Severino was ready but did not deny that he was very late warming up. So it's an embarrassing situation. Because when you stop and think that Severino apparently didn't know what or allegedly did know what time the game started. And where was Aaron Boone if that was the gays, and where was Larry Rothschild if that was the case and from those who do keep such stats apparently. I mean, go figure this, but variedly Severino. Has was reported from earlier didn't have at least one mile per hour on his fastball. And it certainly seemed like he didn't have his game. Certainly not the kinda game. We saw from Severino against the Nima eggs from Oakland last Wednesday night. All right, right back to the phones, we go and they're all forward the Yankees. And certainly this is not really the morning for the giants and Odell Beckham junior. And but for the New York Jets to die from from what you saw with the on Sunday. But nonetheless. We have plenty of time to talk about that as the week goes along. But this is the story tonight sixteen to one and over before you can really be well, listen, it was closed for like ten seconds. And why was Severino starting the bore? Then why was Lance Lynn the first out of the ball van when you have the basis order, nobody out and you need a strike out a double play and what on the ground, and here's Lance Lynn already tripping over himself with a hole in the mountain. Listen it wasn't right for him. You could see and you could make the argument he stayed with him to one. And then you bring in Chad green after the game is getting out of hand. All right to the phones we go and Joe is calling from mastic. And Joe you're on the fan. What's going on? Hey, steve. How are you? Oh, okay. Joe? How about yourself? Now, not bad. Just got back from the game. I take my son with big Yankee fans and. China. For some bright spots in the game. And I wound up catching the ball. They'd hold it. The cycle. Well, well. Here's the ironic thing is at Austin role. Mine has had better than Severino. You know, we were all standing and cheering for him because he did see. Get the guys out. But I didn't know that. That was a first time cycle. Yeah. I over I ever in postseason history. And and yeah, I know and now that ball may be worth something to you. Threw the ball back on the field. Yes. I did. Why did you? I understand now. Okay. No. I understand. But that ball might have been worth some money for you. I know it I know it, you know, it's it's just a condition here. I am with my son. Assigned to game as we kind of we. We stayed and everybody else was leaving. So I did day. You know, we normally do you can opposing. Back and then it was cold. I totally understand. And here's the thing. You know, what was the most important thing? I mean, obviously wanted to see your Yankees win. But you know, what was the most important thing of this evening. Not only that you've caught the for the cycle that homerun you were there with your son. And that is something that is a little bit more important than you even catching the ball or the ANC is losing a playoff game. Whatever you were there with your son. That's a good thing. Absolutely. It's the thing that I cherish the most of the taking to the game. Correct. And then we pay we normally have a great time. And so we did anyway. And it turned out to be good. And it's still more games to plan the hoping to come back. Well. Well, the Yankees are now down to their last twenty seven outs. Anyway. All right. But are you going tonight or no? You know, I'm thinking about it. And you know, I'm just I'm on cloud nine right now. Even though they lost historic Lois and all the bad things. But you know, I caught the ball. And you know, I'm feeling pretty good about that. Nobody knows well, Michael fleekerman on the other side of the glass reminds me something that is also unique about you and your son the two of you stayed until the end. Yes. The end of Obama. Yes. Your your wife is probably going what a crazy person. I got married. He is late for work. My son is going to be late for school, and you stayed for the whole game when it was over in fifth sixth inning already. But you know, what you're a great fan. Thank you. You know, we we are season ticket holders. We go to the games. We love it. We wanna sing Frank Sinatra at the end of the game. It's the thing that we do. And you know, somehow, I'm just gonna remember this day for the rest of my life because part of history now next time next time hold onto the ball until you know, it doesn't mean anything. Yes. My name is Joe parrots, and I'm going to try and get in touch your whole bag for him. You know what I'm saying? Yeah. Well, sure enough. But if you well, you know, the thing is you might have been able to take up to afford your son going to college if you had held onto that baseball for Brockhall already with the I never cycle that he hid for of all people on that team. Hold with the cycle. First ever postseason psycho. Frank is calling from the Bronx Frank here on the fan, Frank. What's happening? Hey, Steve how you doing? Okay. Frank. Hello. Yeah. Hello. What? Oh, yeah. I can hear you fine, which is unusual for me. Yeah. I've disappointed. Fan. It didn't look like they competed to tell you the truth tonight. I hate to say that and I'm not going to try to take anything away from the Red Sox, but Nepean evolved the I mean. He's he's not that good that Qatar. It's all day long. We're hearing about the cutter. Well, let me ask you something. How in the world? If you're scouting department is supposed to be a top notch scouting department. Does that come as any surprise any playoff game of this magnitude in this important and another thing is? Pictures all night. Fast balls right down the middle were kind of selection is this from the staff. What are they thinking? You're not gonna give me. Should we get it out? Especially majorly kid is this good throwing maybe four miles fastball straight and right down the middle wells. Yes, severino. Listen, even to the naked eye, and my eyes are naked. You could see there was no movement. He was getting way too much of the plate. And when he wasn't getting much of the plate. He was getting a lot of the dirt and little fumbling. Although all on the one on a stolen base Sanchez could not gather the baseball even make throw down to second base on a stolen base up. Forget who it was. But the bottom line is he had a he had a top ten listening has a tough time catching Severino and and to. Unfortunate for Sanchez and the Yankees said he didn't have more balls to catch the Red Sox. Putting everything in play with one out. And specially with two outs. First and see they they came out aggressive day came out ready to put some pressure on the defense. To put the ball in play. This is what they do. This is how they want one hundred eight games, you want a home homerun, you'll you you look at the ankles to one manufactured or you want to run that is produced from the legs. You look at the Boston Red Sox van is calling from Inglewood, bam. You're on the fan. What's going on? Yes. Hey, man. What's happening? I'm good. I'm. Head. He, oh, Ben, then a weather's Ben. If you can hear me try to call us back. If you can Chris is calling from northern New Jersey pressure on the fan. Hey, Chris, what can you say? Yup. All right. So let's just kill the whole notion that he wants to grant who cares about that. Three. Well, yeah. Ready? He would've gave up, you know, he would have looked horrible. To look great on the first. And if I were call I hear all the only thing I would say here in this is your on your dime. But first inning top of the first thing if I recall he threw four pitches and had two outs. Yes. Whether it was ready. It wasn't ready. It went through the first escape so everybody trying to make excuses. And. Whatever I don't know. I don't John with that. Here's the other thing. Okay. He you at game shifts. Okay. Scored russ. But if we really go back and look at when they scored those runs it. After Austin had guys on the walk. Okay. Is on finding then they hit the blast affect the Yankees. Don't manufacture Russell what like us the past. And everybody else has either one right? Yeah. You look at it. Now, he. Had to change. It's not gonna change overnight. Laurel? You know, like waking up, and maybe shouldn't change. I mean, you want one hundred games, and it's really one hundred and two as we speak. All right. We have to go to the update. We'll get right back to your telephone calls and get into more with the Yankees. Losing this one sixteen to one you know from that. It's one Twenty-one, you know, from the number no from the plaque with Harrison..

"One of the great rivalries, all of American sports in the games. They'll play this weekend or about as important as any. They played in a long time, the Yankees and Red Sox joining us. Now, our former teammate and now the manager of the New York Yankees, Aaron Boone, and at the ballpark. Good morning boys. You're accustomed to the live shots here on ESPN. So obviously something that you're very comfortable with, but I would love for you and text him moment and help us would've live in this rivalry. You were there Erin. Obviously, during times when these games meant everything, including incredibly dramatic postseason games. So Dan, from where you sit as a manager, just have different, are these games Yankees, Red Sox versus the other games on your schedule? I'd be lying if I said they they didn't seem like a bigger deal. We had a series here in may. Kind of a back and forth series where the ballpark was electric. It felt like the postseason I'll go back to two thousand three. When I came over at the trade deadline from Cincinnati, you know, considered myself up to speed on the game fan of the game. I remember Tim neighoring, who is with the reds at that point now is is one of the vice presidents with us. He said, you have no idea what you're walking into and the first trip to Boston and August I went there. My wife was with me and he was exactly right. I had no idea from the people at the hotel just how big a deal it is how personal it is. And when the two teams are are really good and and like this season, I think it adds to it and it's a lot of fun frankly, to be a part of so gooney when I was a player going into Boston, it was an emotionally draining experience. First of all, the small clubhouse all the media, four hour games, the fans are on you the entire time. Is it the same way for union coaching. Staff. I mean, do you guys feel a little bit just exhausted at the end of these series and how do you guys stay up when you know there's so much on the line. Well, the the staying up part is really easy. I mean, it's easy to go in focused for this club. You know, there's they're so talented, the resilient. They can beat you in so many different ways. So you know, you've got to be at your absolute best if you're going to have a chance to beat them. So it's easy to stay locked in. It's easier to stay up for these games, but there's no question when you leave, and when you get finished with these series, it does. It does take a little bit out of you emotionally and and you've got a really kind of get your mind right and set in lock in because the next game obviously becomes just real important, but there's no doubt about it that going into the series, especially when the two clubs are so strong takes a little bit out of you. And these are unique circumstances. Obviously, educate me a little bit here because I've just covered this on my life and bene- fan, but you're living in at the difference between winning this division finishing second is such an enormous one in terms of your postseason positioning. At what point do you start thinking about that? At what point do you end the players start? Actually having that conversation, we need to catch these guys to stay out of that one. Gameplay in circumstance. You know what we don't have. Those conversations are focus, for example, is today right now, it's the Baltimore Orioles. We're going against Alex Cobb. We got sunny gray on the mount..

"The yes network here's aaron boone thought he pitch really well you know he's pitching on the six day where he had to shorter outing and it just stuff wise seemed to be really coming out well today in that fourth inning where we went to a lot off speed pitches really really pushed the change up there and i think a couple hitters got away from a little bit but he almost saw him step off the mound and kind of talked to himself for a minute rain it in and then he just he got after him for those last three plus innings after that little little bump where i saw him kind of step off and correct himself and and then it was off off off to the races from there this is pretty much you've come to expect from him obviously anytime he goes i feel great about it i mean he's he's a great pitcher he's clearly establishing himself as one of the best in the game he gave he gave us a lot today she's looking at it as more encouraging news when it comes to sanchez as at the plate another yeah and in fact our the first time up you popped up the ball to third i mean that's that's the one where it's like he's all over that pitch he's in a strong position and that's the one he's kind of been missing over these last few weeks and he missed it there that first time and you know i'm sure he's frustrated with it but can you continue to battle through there and obviously at us a big insurance run there with long straight away damn it was kind of a curious play there in the i think the start the fifth the pop up that sanchez was under and then kinda came out of nowhere it was definitely him being aggressive i think when the ball i went up gary didn't see it so i think you know with the sun being what it was the way i saw was gary looked at it and then kind of look to his right for maybe help from third baseman or something like he couldn't find it and i think sevi saw that saw that maybe he didn't see it so i just think he said i'm going to catch it and went up and got the rebound.

"A remedy dot com courtesy of the yes network here's aaron boone stuff was really good came out early thrown real hard i know he hasn't thrown that many pitches obviously a lot dipped on a little bit but thought he thought he worked to the edges pretty good the cutter the slider i think going in we knew he was he would be tough he's real well for him and he gave an equality outing no doubt dmed staff as a whole really kept the offense at bay clearly given how they've come back so many times is it almost odd for you to see them be able to strike at the end of the game obviously we always no word a couple of routers on we always feel like that big inning is in there for us and so there's always that belief in that confidence we have when when when the game is unfolding and really this entire trip you know we had a very successful trip overall didn't necessarily swing batch grade but we've been able to have that beginning at a big spot and have those big bats tonight we gave ourselves a chance late tying run on base the go ahead run at one point in both those last couple inches couldn't get that hit tonight to push over the top and he credit them for forget it don against us tonight severino five innings took him out after ninety three pitches you typically write him a little bit more deeper into the game what made you decide to take him out at that point just because there are going to be lots of times over the course of the year where we are going to ride them deeper into the game and i thought he was a little harder form tonight thirty pitches there in the first inning i certainly felt like he had a little bit more in the.

"The post game so it's refreshing and not very often very refreshing unique and novel to see aaron boone hannah mated as he was so then the bottom line is i mean filling out a lineup cardis not easy to do when you have so much talent and so many options and also dnotice notice with aaron boone and this is not any kind of knock it's just you know it's him being him but in the post game press conferences at aaron ruined does i always get the impression that it's like he's in the dugout giving signals to his third base coach to give a sign or two to the batter i mean he's touching his nose he goes to the bill of his camp he tugs at his ear he might rub one of his cheeks a little bit it's like he's giving assign notice that the next time you happen to stick around and listen to an errand boone postgame bras conference and the first time i saw it i thought he was like having some fun with members of the media giving them the sign to cut the post game press conference short but if you i mean you got to watch him it's it's kind of amusing because it does look like he's he would be in the dugout doing the same thing flashing assign to a third base coach or to sanchez behind the blade i mean he's doing everything except speaking about any you know well he's he is speaking but he's giving all these lines anyway so neither here nor there already and he's got a tough job don't you think as a rookie manager already managing a team in which he has so many options with so many talented flare this roster so again now the yankees lose it by the score of six to four the pen wasn't that sharp either you know from that herman of course with the nightmare and the yankees the show how human they are losing this one with the rangers by the score is six two four will get to the metropolitans will get to the upset in oakland california the mouthpiece and the shimmy shimmy the.

"The constant building up of aaron boone i i just don't get it it's not so much that i think that the the those that cover this team on a regular and consistent basis in the newspapers it's not so much that they're covering aaron boone and the yankees as much as their rooting for aaron boone and the yankees spike stanchion but i fought that picture of boone in the post game in toronto spoke a million words and if aaron boone thought that it was you know it's obvious and he knows this he's got the press behind him i mean how the hell could he not know we'd have to be stupid not to know but aaron boone had a up moment sunday after that game where it was clear to me speaking for no one else it was clear to me than aaron boone says to himself a i've got myself into something here that is much bigger much larger much deeper than maybe even gave credit for because let let let let's make no mistake about something any manager i don't care if you're talking about a seasoned manager with a demonstrated record of proven results in the ability to relate to a clubhouse and make a strategic in game decisions that that work out more favorably than not during his career i don't care if you're talking about a seasoned manager i don't care if you're talking about a manager who's been around the block to three years i don't care if you're talking about a first time managers such as such as aaron boone any manager would love would relish an opportunity to inherit the roster that aaron boone does fresh out of the box in his managerial debut with the yankees and again never having been in uniform prior after his playing career ended.

"The book and by the you're dealing with human beings right and part of being a manager who's been around not gonna make all the right decisions but just the like the hardcore i don't know i'm going by the book no matter what ended up causing him twice this past weekend this faulted bullpen is supposed to be a lockdown bullpen and i i give david cone a lot of credit i give john flaherty and jack curry a lot of credit they all ripped into it yesterday every single one of them i mean i i wanted to hear somebody tried to explain this away and they couldn't because you know why the baseball people and baseball people know when you're watching a game they know the flows of the game and i'm not sitting here saying that if they did pitch to josh donaldson that they were going to get him out but if you're if you're gonna walk the bases loaded anybody who's ever pitched at any level knows that you have very little room for error if you have the basis low especially when you talk about one came in a wall ties it and you're talking about late in the game and even if you know the eye contact between aaron boone and david robertson's stuff annoys me on your right now aaron boone you are the manager of the baseball team you are the one with consulting with with the consultation i should say with your your bench coach pitching coach that's how you formulate your decision now if you wanna take into account in particular players personal situation you know i to me saturday was just as bad because just i don consensus got throw inning after everything that he had been through as part of last season get out of the game he did his job put somebody else in there you got more than enough guys to be able to do it i mean has aspirin and you left him in and guess what happens.

"The four to one lead jury hits two run homer how good is he been over the first couple of games and it was not a great start by sunday sunny gray struck out a bunch of guys but when you throw in ninety plus pitches when nobody out in the fifth inning that's problem so he gets yanked chad green does his job and you got a three run lead and you think okay keenly robertson chapman and you get ready for the home opener yankee stadium when it's three out of four that goes up in flames kaley gives up a two run home at a justin smoak robertson comes in and put out the fire but where aaron boone is going to be hearing the catcalls and where aaron boone is going to be hearing a lot of criticism is in the bottom half of the eighth inning with roberson puts a couple runners on base he induces a groundout to keep the runners at second and third and then there's a decision to be made josh donaldson comes to the plate by reputation by track record you'd say wow put them on base you don't want that guy to beat you but if you look at these games folks judge donaldson did got sampler maybe it's the dead or maybe it's the shoulder maybe he's just a slow start to the year but his swings and his pats were not as good as just smokes and for whatever the reason whether it was aaron boone call him the shot whether it was aaron boone and david robertson agreeing on this which is what they both told you after the game they decided to intentionally walk josh donaldson all the bases go after justin smoak and the end result was not pretty justin smoak hits a grand slam the yankees ended up losing the game and to very painful losses over the weekend where you can certainly nitpick and critique of first year yankee manager the fair critique still but kansas for second inning of work is asking a lot robertson intentionally walking donaldson not a move i like but to me four games into a.
