Turns out, the people who work at Facebook are fighting just as much as the rest of us
"Out the people who work at facebook are fighting just as much as the rest of us from American public media. This is marketplace tech I'm Ali would. FACEBOOK is feeling the pressure to deal with election disinformation this week, the FBI uncovered a new Russian propaganda campaign targeting the twenty twenty election facebook announced. It would block new political ads for a week before the election on Thursday it said it would take down videos in which the president urged people in. North. Carolina to vote twice, which is illegal and activist asked facebook to ban event listings like the one that encouraged people to arm themselves and go to Kenosha. Wisconsin to confront protesters two people were shot and killed in Kenosha. So how does it feel to work at facebook right now, Ryan Mack is a senior tech reporter at buzzfeed. He says, the company has an internal communications platform called workplace and it is full of debate. Imagine what's going on on your facebook feed right now and that's happening exactly in the same way internally at facebook where there's more than fifty thousand police at have access to this thing. People are mad. There's other side as well in some cases. Defending the gunman in playing devil's. In In. So this is kind of devolved into this back and forth where Zucker actually stepped in earlier this week. and Said, look we need to have more discussions. We're GONNA. Movies into certain groups, but you're not gonNA be able to. Post openly argumentative things on our platform and the funny thing about workplaces at things also trend on workplace as well. So you can see when when things trend and so these things that get a lot of engagement because of the arguments often trend at the top which then creates this positive feedback loop where where people an arguing more and seeing it more and yeah. So it's it's it's not pretty. So, you're saying that facebook has an internal facebook. then. Mark. Zuckerberg has stepped in to police. The irony is hurting me in the head right now. He's announced kind of these new ways of looking at content. It remains to be seen what they actually do. There are hundreds if not thousands of groups on workplace and so imagine that you're at home all day you're cooped up you WANNA talk to your colleagues you WanNa be in the mix Were places where you're hanging out right for people who haven't been facebook I mean it's like entering to city a dreamy bubble, right? It's a city it like every wall is covered with art all the conference rooms have cute names. There's like redwood growing in the middle of their. Outdoor Park. There's the roof garden. A barber, you have a barbecue shop. Bikes repair shop. Yeah. Right. An and all, and they're balloons all over the like it's your face. Booker Verse Serie You. Know I mean it's like it is a lovely place to be, and I wonder if that's your thing you now that you have people at home like sort of like snapped out of it a little bit. If that you know if you were watching Mark Zuckerberg screen instead of in a room with all of your friends and fellow believers. Would it change your perspective a little bit. Does. Eliminate some of the the experience of working at facebook. It's actually really funny. 'cause we get these So before all hands meetings, facebook employees up vote questions of what they want to ask. Mark. Zuckerberg for the week and some of the questions like when are we gonna get like a snack budget for home? Are we gonNA like how do we get? How are we gonNA improve our lives at home and they were actually bonuses given to employees at trying to improve homeworking situations. They have disability to watch and send out you know some of their thoughts on what's going on as it happens whereas like if there was no pandemic, they were in the office, it'd be most of them would be watching this remember park. I guess the other question is, do you have a sense of how many people? ARE THAT UPSET BECAUSE They don't seem to be having huge impact. So it's interesting. FACEBOOK has these internal surveys. One of the questions in there as you think, facebook is making the world a better place. Right after the company did not take down the infamous looting shooting post from Donald Trump, you saw like twenty, twenty, five percentage point drop. That is facebook's data showing their employees are. Not Believing in that mission anymore at least or at least this one incident caused leave not mission. Would you say they have a chance at making that internal change. One of the things here that people have to realize that the power lies in the hands of Mark Zuckerberg he. Has Decision Making power because he made maintains majority voting control over the company. We look back at the walkout, for example, at the beginning of June in the company released a statement and said like we hear you kind of thing but like. Mark Zuckerberg really do anything to change how the company operates think so in like. It's up to him basically, what happens on the platform Ryan Mack is a senior tech reporter at buzzfeed.

Instead, it was caused by nursing home staff who unknowingly infected residents because they were asymptomatic. Lieutenant Frank Ribbon would be the role that most people would end up associating with Leslie Nielsen something. He ended up readily embracing embracing during his funeral in twenty ten which was in Fort Lauderdale Florida. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police of which Leslie Nielsen's father. There had been a member when he was alive. They carried the Canadian actors coffin as Ira Newborns Theme Music Police Squad played in the background. Leslie Leslie Neilson is surrounded here. By a very appealing supporting cast including the not often utilized Priscilla Presley as the main love interest after dabbling with the notion of casting vote. Derek for that part reportedly Bo. Derek was intimidated by the notion of doing a very fast paced comedy Z.. Z. Chose Pressley because she had never done comedy before. In fact the preferred non comedic actors for most of its major roles because it kept the audience off guard the like the look and the style that the got from Priscilla Priscilla Presley. She did work as Jenna Wade on the TV series Dallas. She does a really wonderful job here in the role. Despite her lack of experience in comedies George Kennedy entity was one of the actor wanted to appear in airplane back in the day but he had already been committed to an entry in a film series that they were actually spoofing. At the time the airport he was appearing in airport seventy nine universal would not let him cross studios to appear in a spoof of their own property the part in airplane that was meant for George which Kennedy ended up going to Lloyd bridges instead now. Reportedly paramount insisted that Z.. A. C. put an Oscar winner to be part of the main cast of the naked gun. John Kennedy did fit the bill and so he was given a second chance for this series unrelated to anything else he had going. He ends up portraying police. Captain Ed Hocken Kennedy was very much looking forward to working with a creative comedy trio and he did find it an overall rewarding experience but also found it very difficult as an actor because of the way they did the comedy because every scene would be done forty or more times the dozens of takes for every particular scene so repetitive that it ended up being no longer funny in the actors had hard time trying to get the right pitch at the right cadence for it to be funny but that was okay with Z. Because they didn't want it to be funny. They wanted their actors to shoot it straight. The comedy would come from the fact that they took it seriously. Ricardo Montalban took the role because he had rarely done comedies. After many years on television. Playing Mr Rourke on fantasy island. He helped that being in the naked go would help. Further erode being typecast Montalban ended up quitting at the time in interviews that he did the film strictly clean for the money and that he would use that money to buy new Chrysler and he was the spokesperson for Chrysler cars. At the time we all Yankovic gets a cameo appearance in all three of the naked could get films. He's definitely is featured here. Yankovic said that police squad was his favourite show of all time and when he learned that the producer of his mockumentary called the complete. How was beginning to work on a movie version of his favourite TV show? He begged him to find a way to get him somehow in the film or even behind the scenes of the film even if he was going to play an extra in the background or working craft services he wanted to be a part of it. Somehow that producer ended up relaying Yankovic Fan boy is a to Z Z and they eagerly eagerly wrote a cameo for him in the film and after it was completed weird Al during his days when he would date a lot of women he claimed he would bring his first dates eight to see the movie just to see the reaction on their faces when his cameo appeared in fact he would wear the same Hawaiian shirt as he does in the movie just to further. punctuate the element of surprise. Reggie Jackson also makes a small but very significant appearance as the right fielder for the California angels which is what they were called between nineteen sixty five having nineteen ninety-six now. He was not necessarily playing a lot of right field at that time he was mostly used as a designated hitter for his final years of play. The curiosity acidy is that Reggie Jackson is was no longer a California Angel. At the time. In fact the last team he had played for was the Oakland A.'s. In one thousand nine hundred seven he had just retired from the game. The makers were not dissuaded by that though they felt that they needed a cultural icon. Like Reggie Jackson who is known by most of the viewing audience young and old alike Mike and just to further rankle nitpicking. Baseball fans the footage beyond the initial establishing shot of the stadium outside was filmed in dodger. Did Your Stadium. Despite the fact that it's supposed to take place in Anaheim stadium with the angels played at the time. Z Z originally wanted to teams to be the brewers because the writers were from Milwaukee Wisconsin versus the dodgers because it said in Los Angeles however when they applied for the rights to these teams major league. Baseball told them that. One of the teams had to be the the Seattle Mariners the figure due to it being a struggling franchise at least at that time before they got Ken griffey junior et Cetera. The dodgers though decline. They did not want thirteen to be used in this kind of film because they were worried about their image. They were willing though to rent out the stadium so long as the dodger team name and the team itself was not mentioned in the film. The biggest objection they had was the depiction of the on the field brawl during the final sequence. They would not even let their announcer vin. scully be used for the play by play portions of the film so he was never asked but scully ended up being quite a huge fan of the film when it was finally released in fact he said he would have gladly done. The film had he known at the time so they ended up renting dodger stadium. They secured the rights to the other team in in the metropolitan area. The California angels who plate of course in Anaheim many of the original ideas for the baseball base- finale were unfortunately cut from the film including the the very end of the film that he hit intended. They had envisioned that the end of naked gun would have everyone in the film get together and seeing take me out to the ball game. They would have this choreographed song and dance finale. In fact they shot part of the sequence but then they realized as they were watching it that who actually was not very funny and they felt that this was kind of a stupid way. The film. That's full of non stop laughs. You can't leave everybody walking out of the theater not laughing so they decided to in the film with the last of the big last that they had which which was of. OJ Simpson as Nordberg in a wheelchair launching off of stadium balcony. That's how it goes out. The naked gun would end up proving to be a very solid hit for paramount. Him Out pictures. It debuted at number one in the US in its initial week of release in early December and it remained in the top ten box office performance for ten straight weeks it would would end up in the end raking in approximately seventy eight million dollars off of a budget of twelve to fourteen million dollars. The naked gun success would assure that it would get a sequel. All the sequels resulted the naked gun. Two and a half the smell of fear that came out in Nineteen ninety-one and the naked gun thirty three and a third the final insult in nineteen ninety four. Both were hits but that third film was not as big a hit as intimidated. The creative team ended up disbanding and that left the series in limbo David Zacher would try to continue the series with Pat Proft. They came up with a script for a fourth film called tentatively the Naked Gun four forty four point four. That story would have paired frank driven with a younger female partner. However the project ended up getting dropped when David Zucker and PAT proft ended up taking over and and putting all of their creative comedic energy into continuing the scary movie franchise which was deemed to be much more lucrative? That was the last of it at least until twenty thirteen where paramount paramount pictures announced plans to continue the franchise. This time with Ed Helms playing frank driven the screenwriting team of Thomas Linen and Robert. Ben Grant were brought brought into script. David Zucker was offered a chance to produce but he ended up declining. He claimed that the contemporary intention for the comedy style. Stray too far away from screwball nature of the original series and that included casting Ed Helms who was primarily known for comedies. He felt that casting. A comedic. Talent was antiethical medical to the way. That Z Z emphasized. Hiring mainly drastic actors in the film ended up in development. Hell it never really went anywhere. Unfortunately now in two thousand eighteen eighteen things were kicked up once again. When David Zucker began writing a script again with Pat Proft along with Mike McManus for a fourth naked gun film but they? He had in mind bill hater in the lead role. And that's despite the fact that Bill Hater is primarily known for being a comedian. So kind of going against what Zucker had complained. What about within helmsmen cast bill Hader rumor to be playing frank driven son Frank gribbon junior and the plot involves junior getting recruited by the CIA? Guy As a decoy. Kinda like spies like us. This new iteration would spoof modern day spy based action film series like mission impossible in the Bourne series. And of course James Bond where the son of driven has to uncover the mystery of his father's death while also taking on this Russian Crime Lord who appears to be trying to snuff out. Ah every driven in the world this one also in development hell because they haven't quite proceeded forward with that but that's where this series stands as of right now now it's a bit futile to try to review film like the Naked Gun and expect to you out there. If you haven't seen it to be able to know if this is the kind of movie for you and the Best I can say. Is that if you like movies like airplane or even top secret or spoofs in general or entertainment. That's filled with a lot of slapstick and sight. Gags you need to give it a watch. It's this is the kind of movie where I could tell you. The plot from the beginning to the very end and would not spoil your experience. But if I told you the five funniest jokes that I found in the film that probably would so all I can say is that you should probably make the effort to see than they could for yourself if you have not already. I personally think that the naked gun is the best. And funniest of the screwball comedies comedies of the one thousand nine hundred eighty s just based on the number of last that it generates I get a kick out of watching this film over and over. I've probably seen it maybe fifteen times over the years I I never get tired of it. It contains a lot of stupid sophomoric humor to be sure but I think that even that stupid humor is very smart and witty underneath there's impeccable impeccable comic timing here that could only come from seasons comedy professionals. This is very much a well put together. Film through and through the shotgun approach to comedy has not surprisingly high hit to miss ratio allowing you to fall into this groove of giddiness. That will likely have you laughing throughout the entire run time repeat viewings. I think make the film even funnier not only for remembering the best moments but in catching many of the jokes you may have missed the first time out so for all of that. I'm giving the naked gun. Three and a half stars out of four three and a half stars on ice kilmeade. I do think that this is a good film and I definitely do recommend it for people who love comedy especially in the nineteen eighty s if if you love Leslie Nielsen and you love these kinds of spooky comedies. I think the naked gun is the best of them personally. So even better than airplane which I think was a classic for it's era as well. Three stars out of four is what I give the naked gun..

"Of Chicago institute of politics and CNN the axe files with your host, David Axelrod. Folks, let's deal with the elephant in the room right from the start. I worked for Jeff Zucker at CNN. But that's not why invited him on the acts files, which I think you'll agree. When you hear this conversation may not have been the shrewdest career move of my life. I invited him because his life story is a hell of a yarn and his impact on broadcast journalism has been undeniable. We sat down and talked about all of this last week at CNN headquarters in New York, and yes Zukas long intriguing relationship with Donald Trump did come years that conversation. Jeff zucker. It's good to be with you. Happy to be with you. Thank you for inviting me, so homestead Florida where the whole saga begins. And I'm guessing that these oops in come over on the Mayflower. Now, they did not actually it wasn't just homestead Florida. I was born on Homestead Air Force base. Which was of course, later demolished by Hurricane Andrew. So as I was air force kid my dad, my dad cardiology. My dad was cardiologists in the airforce. He came down from New York met, my mom who is who who grew up her whole life in Miami. Which was very rare for somebody. Era. They met on a blind date down in Miami. And ended up staying there. My dad got assigned to Homestead Air Force base. And that's where I was born. And that's where it all started. And where did the zookeepers come from originally? So this lookers originally came from somewhere in eastern Europe that is probably Poland now somewhere on the poll in Russia border. That has probably changed five times and went to they come over. So they came in the late eighteen hundred before the turn of the century. And you you're always a pug nations little do. Thank you. I mean, you were a. A high school tennis player your coach said you wouldn't settle for being the number two singles guy you had to be the number one. Singles guy, I didn't deserve to be the number tastes ankles player. I was I was worthy of being the number one player. And you got there by I listen, I played tennis my whole life. So so this is really was the most important thing in my life was I started playing tennis when I was six years old and I play tennis every day and. I I was pretty good when I was young. And frankly, you know, I was pretty highly ranked in Florida as as a young kid what happened was by the time. We got to the fourteens and sixteen and unders I didn't grow the way that everybody else grew. And so all these kids who is beating when we were in the ten and unders twelve and unders beginning fourteen hundred they did grow all of a sudden start beating me, and I'm gonna what is going on here. And it's because they had grown, and they could serve and volley. But having said that I still was pretty good. And I played a number one on my high school tennis team tenth eleventh and twelfth grades. But it did allow you to run for class president every year hundred the under the slogan, the little man with the big ideas..

And I suggest that Phil Griffin of MSNBC stop provoking hatred in this nation, tell you girls to stop it. Tell your girls that there's something more important than ratings, which is a nation. WABC Ben line three. What's on your mind? Ben. Hey, michael. I wanted to talk about what you said with our mayor of New York City, mayor de Blasio who said that we should normalize. Hey, we could walk over that. What he was trying to say essentially was this the new norm shouldn't be that. We need armed guards in our synagogues. But like we gave up those rights going onto an airplane. We need to be searched me to be checked and in Israel, where every single synagogue or school has an armed guard. That's our reality. And it's especially rich coming from him to say that we don't need armed guards. When we have the most restrictive gun laws, and we're not allowed to bring the legally licensed weapons, we have in our homes, and there are many of us that do we can't bring a toy. If I'm not mistaken the Blasio surrounded by armed guards. Isn't he? Of course, I never I didn't make de Blasio put armed guards in front of a mosque during his tenure as mayor just yesterday. They were pictures of heavily armed New York City, Hercules teams protecting. Why after the fact not before the fact, well, he just said that we shouldn't have armed guards. We don't need them. I came out immediately and said, I don't want to go back to the old statement of every Jewish twenty two you know, who said that many years ago. You know, what he was wrong about one thing? The size of the caliber, very funny. Well, how does the orthodox Jewish community feel about guns? Well, I can't speak for everyone. I can speak for myself, my friends, and the majority of us are both licensed and carry and practice regularly. See now, that's such an odd. Obverse view of the religious Jew. And it's something that I heard you say last week, and I wanted to call in and speak about that. But there are many like me and many of us are well trained, and well armed it's just the licensing and the and the bureaucracy that makes it difficult to obtain them. Well, I'm glad that you can protect your women and children in a synagogue because you know, ultimately, the the the congregation asked to learn to protect itself. The issue. We can we are not allowed to we can only carry in our homes. We can't bring to our synagogue who protects your who who protects you during service dot, unfortunately..
