"More J. before I. Go to you before I. Go to Perk I WANNA. Make sure I'm clear on this so Alvin. Gentry's telling you that there will be no restrictions on Zion at all. He, so he told me he didn't say that. One didn't say that win. So we're an all the way in right they need. They need. No, I, no, no, no, no I do. Yes, it does. Yes, it does work. People. Go ahead Jay. Perkins if you're telling people on national TV. That albinger injury literally said to you there will be no restrictions on Ziya Williamson and that's one thing going down there to win. I hear exactly what everybody is going down there to win of course Alvin Gentry is going down there to win all I'm saying is if he plays forty-three minutes the first night. Hold on a second he. He plays forty three minutes the first night. That second that he's a little bit sore. I bet to any amount of money I'll say all right. We'll maybe this by playing at twenty three twenty four. I don't want you to Overdo it because we still need to make a push, let zig where we are game by game, my man, it ain't going to say forty plus. J. No means that's go ahead. Will that's all team common sense everyone. Everyone knows that if he plays twenty three minutes, and he goes to jittery and says hey, I'm feeling Achey or some his bother me. Of course. Add Average Richie is go slack. Oh he played for three minutes. Go to coast ditching and say plan. He feeling good. Then you go play forty three minutes 'cause coast. And the Pelicans going down near the wind I heard the. Down there the win and make Noise Okay Gentlemen. We got to leave it there. It's going to be interesting. Right because what happened to different things. One is manager minutes proactively. The other thing is I'm feeling great. I want to keep playing and you keep playing them as many minutes as you can very interesting all right guys, thank you so much take. Let's turn now to college football, and this is a very very important story. Folks players are returning to campus. They're undergoing testing as they prepare for the startup, the approved six week preseason.
Every Team's Top Potential Free-Agent Targets After 2019 NBA Draft
"You about to be immersed in woke bombs, because it is that time of the year. Our NBA insider, everyone else joins us. Whoa. Just before we get into free agency, which is going to be interesting. We are now what twelve hours removed from the draft. Your initial takes who won who lost? Well, I thought the two teams who made the most significant trade last night. New Orleans, and Atlanta, both fared very well maximize the assets that they had Atlanta moving up into number four. To get. The hunter from Virginia. Maybe most versatile forward in this draft the best defensive player player doesn't need the ball in his hands. They've got a lot of scoring on Atlanta team. And then Cam, reddish, who is probably a top three or four talent taking a little bit of a flyer on him at ten and then New Orleans, you know, their ability to keep expanding this Anthony Davis trade. They got Jackson Hayes at center beyond Ziya Williamson David Griffin, thanks, that's going to give them in the long term. Maybe the most athletic front court in the league pick up another first round pick. And now also have nearly thirty million dollars in salary cap space to go out and free agency. And some veterans to this team that could make it conceivable that, that the pelicans could make the playoffs in their first year without Anthony Davis. And usually when you trade a player of that, caliber. From a small market, you're going into a full rebuild. But I think the winning the lottery being able to get Zion Williamson has a lot of David Griffin to go and just the opposite direction. And they're set up really well in New Orleans, talking about teams on the way up in there seems kind of scratching our heads about that would be the Celtics. What what's going on there? Well, listen, they're preparing to lose career being Al Horford in free agency. They've got in the neighborhood of twenty six twenty seven twenty eight million dollars in cap space, they could use that to go after Senator to replace Al Horford. Nicola Busa vich in Orlando's a free agent. The Lakers have interest there if they can get the cap space for him if they want to put all in one player, but which is at priority in Orlando. You know, there's I think there's motivation on both sides to get a deal done. But if they weren't able to, you know, Boston's and position to swoop in there and try to make a deal with vich Boston still has some really good young players. Now they go from team that thought they were ready to compete for championships to a team now built around Jason Tatum. Jalen Brown Gordon Hayward who still on the right side of thirty years old, and who probably will have a much better season this year than last. But they've got to address that point guard position in Boston. They obviously have taken a step back if both of those players are gone free agency and that's and that's how they feel. That's how it appears right now talking to Adrian ward NASCAR ESPN NBA insider on the show Pennzoil performance line. And something we had Brian win horse on earlier. We're talking a little bit about as teams you mentioned move things around or creating cap space right now. The idea that the seventy Sixers with some available cap space could potentially take shot or try and get a meeting with Kawhi Leonard coming up in free agency. Tell us what you think about the viability of that. Oh, I think they'll get a meeting. I mean listen getting a meeting and being a serious contender for free agent are two different things and very often the relationships in place that will allow a team to get a meeting I thought all along Philadelphia would probably get a meeting for Leonard. I think the Knicks will also get a meeting with Leonard, but the front runners are still Toronto and the clippers. But. Players and their representatives will meet often sometimes as a courtesy with other teams but their focus in Philadelphia is keeping their own. And that's Jimmy Butler Tobias Harris and JJ Rettig. He's an important part of that group too, and he's coming off an outstanding season. It's going to be expensive to keep that team together. They knew that when they made the trades for Harris and for Butler, but their priorities to keep them and also find a way to keep there. You know, I think they may get a meeting with Leonard, but I don't think they're going to be a physician to sign them or insider, eighty ask is with us right now. Whoa. What, what are we hearing? The latest on the, the possibility that there might be a sign and trade deal that keeps Kevin Durant in Golden State, while he's rehabbing. So he gets his money, and then they'll be able to get something for money moves on trade. I don't know anything about that. I think the focus and Golden State right now is to try to sign Kevin Durant to keep Kevin Durant in with the warriors. They're going to offer him a five-year max contract, just as they were before the Killys injury. You know all the options that were there for Kevin Durant before that injury are still there. All the teams that were recruiting him that we're willing to essentially offer them the full scholarship, nobody's pulling back on the book or the meal plan, he's getting full scholarship from everybody. Maximum. Allowable for years with another team five years with the warriors, and they're determined to try to keep him keep Klay Thompson. Great analogy, by the way. As far as actual galleys of free agent when you can actually talk and deal with players. Forgetting that how much of the race is going on right now in the timing issues of these teams talking back door to try and get these things done. Now I mean we live in the real world, Mike and free agency started weeks ago just did. And so it's ongoing. You cannot keep people from talking, there are different philosophies out there. There are different styles going at it. I'm not saying every team is out every free agent is out, literally to go shitting numbers. But are there, some yes there are, and that's always been the case? But I think because of how many teams have so much you have over ten I think ten eleven teams with over twenty million dollars in space and teams who could go get it with one trade. Or waving a player who's got a partial guarantee. So there's lots of moving parts in this free agency teams don't want to be left behind. but you could also you can talk to your own player all the way through boston was able to talk about extension with al horford and it didn't look like they were not close on the numbers and that's why horford is headed in the free agency he feels they have some confidence there's a much bigger offer or offers out there for

"Is after hours with Amy Lawrence. Ziya Williamson dreams realized and I think he's going to be fantastic in the NBA barring any type of major injury. Which is always a possibility. I think he will be shot of energy and jolt of excitement for league that certainly has plenty. But times I believe that fans can get a little jaded been there done that seem that heard that. And infusion of young talent guy likes Williamson with all the potential in the world. Is exactly what the Pellegrini. But it's also going to be great for the NBA when he's on the court. Kevin Kugler with the call from the NCAA tournament on Westwood One radio network. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence on sports radio. What did you like about the NBA draft? Like I said, there's so much to, to look at and to kind of. Transpose project for would be a better word project forward. How do these guys fit into a roster? That's as yet incomplete for many teams around the league. Lots of people who want to know what the Lakers are going to do next season. Well, I don't even sure the Lakers have enough players to feel the team right now. And so we don't know it's very murky the picture of the NBA, but it soon to be filled out as we get toward free agency and well pre agency to the free agency. It's after hours on CBS sports radio and on Facebook, you can find us there named after the show is our page, plus Twitter law radio. And then our phone number eight five five two one, two, four to seven. Next hour. Sean Grandy of the Celtics radio network, and it's not just about the draft for the Celtics. It's also about some of the news that has trickled out of Boston, and then the speculation because there isn't definitive news, yet, on Kyrie Irving, there isn't enough. Definitive news on Al Horford to know exactly what's happening. It was a bunch of trades in a bunch of movement on draft night. And this is Dany ages wheelhouse. Let's be honest. This is exactly what Dany eight lives for. So he was questioned after the draft was over at a press conference about the clarity of the roster. Does he feel like he has more or less clarity? Now that the draft is over. Clarity, very well said. With that being said,.

"I have not burned my retinas, though. It was touching. Go there for a while. When Scott ferrall is not here in the studio. Things are not the way they're supposed to be. We get very set in our ways as radio host, and Scott is good to me. He always leaves the radio studio exactly the way that he likes it. And he knows I like it. We have a mutual understanding that so much tonight always miss them. People ask all the time, do you see the other hosts, and do you ever talk to Scott? Yeah. We're, we're actually in the same studios in fact, all almost all not Jim Rome, almost all of our hosts here on CBS sports radio. Use this same facility. Which is why sometimes when we take pictures here in studio, you can see in the background that it's actually decorated fourteen and Tierney, who, of course, are on TV every weekday afternoon. So we miss Scott. But yes, we're all one big. I was going to say happy, family. I'm not even sure that's true. We're all one big family. But what family is ever completely happy all the time? It's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio. Thanks so much for tuning in hope that you survived your hump day Wednesday we actually had a really good time with our home show. And so we were kind of goofy a little bit off the beaten path, and it's going to be much more button-down, straight laced addition of after hours. If you believe that, what's the old line, I have ocean front ocean front property in Arizona to sell you. I try to stay on the beaten path sometimes. And then I just I generally deviate Ivan deviant, when it comes to sports talk radio, it was a really fun evening sports, though there's a lot for the entire sports radio. Audience feel like there's something that you can be excited about for instance in major league baseball. We have our first team to fifty wins. We already had our first team to fifty losses. I team to fifty wins. We'd a few walk off. So we had a pitcher out there with a broken at a really black. I, I haven't pressed with Mad Max. We tell you what I already thought max Scherzer was one hell of a pitcher. But now I'm really impressed with his toughness, not so much with the basis clearing conversations that we get in baseball. You wonder sometimes about baseball. Players and their toughness. But Mad Max went out there with a broken nose that he gave himself, actually. So I'm not sure he was allowed to sit out. He might not have heard the end of it. But the national starter actually tossed his shutout a shutout run for him. So seven shutout innings and ten strikeouts? And, and that was just one of the baseball headlines in the NHL the awards were handed out tonight, and it's, it's always neat to see these guys like fish out a water almost in their suits, and all dressed up and red carpet, black tie. And there was some cool surprises there as well. But I couldn't help but think how bittersweet for the well, the the big names, the headliners from the Tampa Bay Lightning who were honored because how much they would trade those individual honors those postseason awards meaning after the season not playoff awards, but those though. Those after the season awards now that everything said and done how much would they trade that hardware for their night or day with the Stanley Cup, and I remember I always feel the same way about it when I think Clayton Kershaw from a few years ago when he was young and MVP and yet had a couple of his hiccups in the playoffs that people very often criticized him for for years. And when all the dust settle the dodgers were out they had not made the World Series and yet there he was accepting award. So you just it's, it's bittersweet no doubt, but the NHL awards taking place on Wednesday evening, and we've got the eve of the NBA draft. So the last preparation taking place whatever teams out there still scrambling, maybe still trying to figure out which are the best options. For them. If you're not in the top three, I think most who are in the no I don't, I don't know if that includes us or not most who are in the know would tell you the top three draft picks for tomorrow's NBA draft are fairly set in stone, unless something crazy happens. But we're looking at Ziya Williamson number one to the New Orleans pelicans who are now minus their big star for the last few years, Anthony Davis. So you've got Zion one to New Orleans to we, we knew even going back to the draft lottery that the grizzlies were set on picking job Marantz out of Murray state, which would explain why they wanted to get the deal done for my Conley. So Mike Conley getting traded to the Utah Jazz earlier, on Wednesday and the number three also seems to be fairly set in stone. The Knicks were hoping that they would win the draft lottery and the rights to, to drive cya Williamson. But instead, they will likely. End up with one of his teammates. RJ Barrett from Duke, interestingly enough bear. It was supposed to be the best player on this Duke team. It actually wasn't supposed to be Ziya Williamson and he explodes on the college basketball scene. And obviously the rest is history, but it was supposed to be RJ Barrett. That was the best prospect coming out of this latest class from Mike shoshefsky though, I it's I think almost. Ironic that you get Knicks fans who are spitting out the name RJ Barrett. Like he some consolation prize. And I know he's not Zion who is, but RJ Barrett. It's going to be fantastic players long as he stays healthy and continues to to learn to improve the way that he did in in the year. Duke. It's not as though the Knicks are getting a slouch. And so we've got the final draft prep as well. Which will be fun tomorrow night's show, we'll have the draft aftermath, and so we'll be here. We'll go through the various pigs are sure to be trade as well and still maybe waiting on what the pelicans are going to do with that number four pick, if they're going to make another move. And so these last couple of days of the work week are workweek these last couple of days will have a lot of.

"Yeah. One another. I don't need to seize on Williamson in the purple and gold and lead in the Lakers back to prominence once again now, it's always the wealth a little bit in the state of New York NBA team in Alaska one on that team just away from New York. Oh, yeah. The alaska. That's no when when I look at Zion. And you look at his success. It kinda ran parallel round the same time only one. Yeah. Because he was a freshman column. That's where I'm going column Murray had that same opposite same type of success now I pick cardinals jets. But when you when you watch these two young guys on camera in an interview when they're not competing. I've telling you my opinion. One's one comes across like a super nice guy and a nice kid in Zion. Williamson and the other one not so much, and I think of Kyle Amaury. It sounds weird when I think of Zion because they're too young guys that are exploding into their said pro sport, you know, at the highest level and one comes across different in an interview with the other one comes across different than the other one. I mean, I don't have to topic. But I'm just saying like it's like we're talking about how kids handle success true. I would look at it TASR to play to the point that you're making. I think I think Murray's got a chip on his shoulder. Big chip on his shoulder. They kind of carries around with them that comes across when he gets interviewed and all that ship. Is there for Williamson? I think you're right. I by career at a chip much, ho Korea. I get that. But he comes across a little. Disrespectful. I get I understand it. Maybe he's gonna learn from it as well. But yeah, but I don't disagree with the if you're asking me who comes across total agreement on a chip. I think it's it's AIA Williamson as compared to calorie, and, you know, listen, both are hoping whoever ends up with Ziya Williamson. And the Arizona Cardinals are certainly banking on collar Murray quarterback that it wasn't Oklahoma of cost in the National Football League knew about put all their chips in the middle of the has. Colloborate, but I don't disagree. If you wanna tell me play the point that we're talking about before it serves a success. It looks like Ziya Williamson is taking a success in Duke in stride. And it looks like Collor berry his successor, Oklahoma. And I tell you I know Colorado before this past year, I knew of him. I never saw get interviewed. I was watching Oklahoma baseball around doing anything of that nature. So tell you of interviews, but does he look like a guy comes across a little bit differently yet? There's no doubt about it. But like we mentioned before, you know, not the same. And ultimately, you're going to be judged by based on how you play don't. They do a lot of like with the NFL guys a lot of media training rookie, save a rookie suppose. Yes. So they'll probably learn how to you know, handle himself in and if you little bit better little transitions in out of questions. That's what like again, I know the young guy a column oriented all that stuff. And you're right. I mean, I I'm really happy said he doesn't a chip on his shoulder because I never thought of it like that. And remember that remember the rookie symposium where Chris Carter gone trouble. Where he had was given the guys remember that where he's the guy's a speech talking about that in about life away from the field, basically told them you'd better have a fall guy case you get into trouble. I remember that. The video got leaked out. Yeah. Someone one of your friends. It's willing to take the heat. You get the message of not getting into trouble instead of getting into trouble. The for you. I mean, tonight's listen as I don't think there's been a lottery, a quite some time. That's been people have looked forward to as as much as this one. Because of of Williamson is of star mean, the LeBron was certainly, but we're going back aways. Now, we're going fifteen sixteen years. I mean, it's been a long time. I think Williamson has that kind of player Tasman to tell you. We've talked about him during the course of the year. He's not LeBron James. But here's the other thing that bothers me I want to enjoy him for being him with all the thing. That bothers me. There are other people that are out there. They're basically saying, well, he's not going to be this. He's not going to be that already trying to pigeonhole him a player in an individual TASR. And to me, I think that's that's unfortunately, I've seen commentators on TV hot takes radio everything like that. And that's unfortunate as well. I enjoy the way that he plays basketball. I don't think he's going to be LeBron. But it doesn't mean that he can't be still. A an all star a great player. Listen Zaim Williamson. Okay. He does not need to be the next. Lebron? He needs to be the next Williamson. That's what he needs to do. That's what needs to do. So that's it. Thank you. I'll be two to four two seven eight.

"Five hit side. What's it up? No, go. Okay. Sixteen. You're not going to see a whole better example of the madness of March than we saw yesterday with Duke and UCF and in a game that close obviously, so many sequences wind up deciding the outcome. Take me to one of them. Yeah, we're going to talk about the blueprint actually on how I think other teams will defend Duke and you're going to play breakdown. Here you see trade Jones, Jordan, go wire on the court, and they're going to try to get Ziya Williamson for our post up now as again for post up as it catches the ball here up to pass. Let's get a freeze one two three players all waiting resign. He's opened twelve percent in the three point line. He's going to be open twenty three percents of the three point line. They don't care. He's seeing three defenders actually four defenders at all time. But the playwright out as the play goes Zion ties into the lane, but still has to shoot over to length of taco fall. Can't do it at seven six. Okay. Next plays it develops. They're not guarding trae Jones. They're not doing three right here. Freeze it freeze. It you. Go look at who. He sees seven six sitting in the middle of the pain one defender two defenders, he's wide open. They're not even garden these two players right here. They're not guarding. Greenie. They're only saying focus on RJ bears. And then camera cameras up top going dependent. Now, this is how good Zayn is that the play develop that it play. He's still finds a way to score three players. He gets an off Mr. rebound, boom. That's why you have thirty two points, eleven rebounds. Still that's a blueprint on. How you beat Duke? Trae Jones, Jordan wiring. Floor. Don't guard them sit in the paint. Sit your big into paint mixon RJ three people at all. That's really good. You would you would think you some don't they have spot up shooters? They can put take off their bench and put into the game at least in moments when they need them. But the reality is if you watch them play all year long. They really don't there's there's points in the game or anywhere. Trae Jones, there's nobody guarding he's waving his hands. And they can't give him the ball because he's a reluctant three point shooter. He may one the other day only one. Yeah. I mean, they were leaving himself open. It was bordering on ridiculous. So at times it almost almost as though they're playing three on five they aren't offensive in. But not everyone has this guy on the defense to be sitting in that line. You don't need to be seven six as long as you plug the lane. Remember, this is not the NBA. There's no illegal defense. You can just park yourself in the middle lane. And let them see you at all times and your daring trae Jones to shoot the ball. You're saying RJ Barrett. Ziya Williamson you're not going to beat me. Your other perimeter players have to beat us from the outside. We'll live with that Duke number one seed in the east they advance. Actually, the top four seeds in the eastern bracket all advance. And this is going to be a very interesting regional in Washington. Number two. Michigan state will take on the three seat. LSU tip off is set for.

"Roughshod over this conference all year, they're doing it in eternity. Let's talk about here for a little bit all is wrong. Killian Cillian that first half didn't didn't play much if at all in the second half you scored nine points in that first half, but having him back now kind of changes, doesn't it? I think you see the same thing killing until you that you see with Ziya Williamson when he comes back in quarter finals is just let him back into the offense. But still you add another big that can impair your offense from the outside the best shooter on this team actually last year. Nine AM. It's another weapon along with really hot guys that can shoot me outside versatile. And then they just have all the pieces that you want. I know we talk about them because we watched the game all the time. And I hear what people say about them on social media while he's run through the west coast conference. They've been running to everybody coach I also think about them over the past few years, and they finally they finally broke through a couple of years ago to get to the final four, but is this team that much better and more complete maybe than we've seen from other. Mark few teams over the past few years. It's devastating to step. Maybe that real leader Najah Williams gospel as you watch killing till we get those shots a second ago. What did you notice? This is like a quiz catch and shoot I noticed. Great ball movement. Yeah. The ballers and get stopped. You give up a good shot to get a better shot to get the best shot. You get guys that basically are playing for each other. When you saw Zack Novell back cut and get that lay up on that loose ball from Brandon Clark. What did you see you saw guy that saw an opening read the defense and made a great cut to finish a play that fast break when they kicked Brian Clark do instead of stopping he? Stayed in the plane, and then he ended up finishing the plate. But he can't finish the play unless someone's there to make that pass. This team is really connected offensively defensively. They share the ball. They're a terrific passing team the king team, Josh Perkins. And he's had a great year. When did you say the only issue is depth at the guard position Gino play? Crisper bench. He can make shots. He's a tough physical guy. Chino, cradles. A huge addition because you never had to be in this situation because you that honestly you was just that good. But sometimes you need a player told another player accountable, Gino Crandall holds Josh Perkins accountable to play the way they needed to play..

Because it's one of the most idiot fruitless discussion. Any host has ever engaged in because I've never heard somebody out of region say that a different regions rivalry is considered the best like you won't find anybody in Columbus, Ohio who will tell you Yankees Red Sox. You're not gonna find anybody down in Alabama. That says Ohio State Michigan. That's not how this works. So we're not gonna do that. Instead, I'm going to tell you why do could UNC is not the big game of the day. It is a big one. And obviously tournament selection committee is going to be dialed into that nine days from now we have March madness really gets underway as we find out the seatings what they do sixty eight teams. Now seems like they want to grow this thing every single year venture bay Heim. We'll get his ninety six teams then so we'll know that Syracuse won't ever be on the bubble again, they'll just get in every single year. But the big game of the day is tonight at eight o'clock as the first automatic bid gets doled out that would be the Ohio valley conference. And if you are in college hoops fan, you better be rooting for one team in that. Game that team is Murray state their best player. John Mirant cannot be out of the fold in the NCAA tournament. I know many of you have seen the dunks on YouTube, but it's time to actually bone up on your Ohio valley conference and your Murray state basketball because Jami rant last night. Senator tainting a guest had some wine. I sat back, and she goes, why are we watching this basketball game? I've never heard of either of these teams I said well, first of all it's not about you. It's about me getting ready for the biggest couple of weeks in the sports calendar. And it's about watching John Moran. So if you don't know John Moran explosive point guard for Murray state, not only is he averaging twenty six a game. He's also averaging tennis says these are numbers that you just don't see. And when you actually watch him on the court. This isn't a guy that is chasing stats. He's not chasing assist totals. He is incredible. He has got some of the explosion of Russell Westbrook. But he's got the vision. I'm telling you this. He's got some of the vision of LeBron James and yet nobody's talking about him as the second best basketball player right now. Everyone seems to think that number two number ones locked up Zeile LIAM's Williamson, and we all get that. No owner is going to bypass that freak show who's going to sell tickets day one. Even if you don't even think he's going to be a better pro ultimately. Between him reddish. You know, any of the duties that are out there or Josh Miranda now RJ Barrett is the guy. Most people have poised to go number two. I'm just telling you have an open mind because last night, I officially declared on my Twitter feed at sports boy, Tony don't ask last night officially declared John Mirant as my number two. On the sports. Boy, Tony big board. I'm going with them because I know we can dunk I know he can finish. And the shot is coming along. He obviously made the huge leap this year. And he's one of the best players in college basketball. And I think if you're on a big program and a Cadillac program we'd be talking about him as NCWA player of the year, the Naismith award winner, you've got to see this guy's vision close I implore you you have to watch that game tonight. I know you'll be thinking about Virginia Louisville. You're going to be thinking about the the end of Duke UNC. No trust me, take it all in you need to watch and root for Murray state and Jamarat because if they lose. They're probably not getting in there taken on Belmont. And sorry to all our fans listening in Tennessee. That are big Belmont supporters. They've run a great basketball program for many years. They've dominated that conference at times. But I I gotta say if you're a college basketball fan you need John rant that tournament. You want him in that tournament? You wanna know why we might not have Zion Williamson in that tournament. I hate to be the bearer of bad news. This is yet another five straight games. Now, he's going to be out as he's gonna miss this UNC game. And I know March madness March madness and people think of it as interchangeable, but remember Ben Simmons didn't make the tournament four years ago that could be a situation. Look Duke still going to be fun to watch. But it ain't Williamson. And by the way, they want to get a mention dukes one of the worst shooting teams in the country. Everybody's putting some lock till I go to the final four if they have signed Williamson they are three hundred twenty first out of three hundred and fifty one shooting the basketball. I watched them in that first game at Cameron against Syracuse. Syracuse has been up and down all year they lost again today to Clemson Clemson need that game badly chocking for some selection committee right now these teams are looking for wins. Indiana has a chance to get all. I know is I watched. Syracuse beat Duke daring them to shoot outside jumpers. And some dude named Jack white thought we knew all the Duke players. Some dude named Jack white misled ten three pointers. I think he missed like thirty straight at one point. Coach K's exactly recruiting the same old same old when it comes to do. Can you imagine watching this tournament without Ziya Williamson and Djalmir rant not as much fun because you can say all you want. You're blue in the face that you're rooting for upset. How much fun of the upset Cinderella. The slippers still fits. Yeah. And then what happens in week two you're kind of bored by the tournament, you're kind of bored by the blowouts. It's not exactly the tournament that you wanted. We all root for the upsets, but you still need some of the big programs to be there, you still need some of the big players to be there. I don't wanna have to watch the IT to see John Moran who could go number two overall in NBA draft. What's the point of that? Can we do a redraft like once the teams make the tournament allow like some of the best players to get drafted by maybe some of the lower seeds like how great would it be? If a sixteen seed gets to take John Moran. I'm all for it. You already heard me say, I'm all for robot. Why wouldn't I be for the ridiculousness of that? So here's the real question because we know NC double a basketball loves good scandal. Should we demand? The Duke blue devils be forthright. Should we demand some honesty for them about the future of Zeile? Williamson should the selection committee be able to call coach K and say, hey, tell us right now if he's gonna play or if he is because if you're holding them out of these games, and he's really been shut down for the season. All because you want us to still give you a number one seed because we have to look at you with Zion and without him. And if you're going to have Zion we have to make adjustments. We know that goes back to the beginning of all of this. I mean, go back to Kenyon Martin and his injuries Cincinnati. They were the best team that year far and away Huggins best team. And what were they going to do? It wasn't gonna play. So they docked them. Well zion. Williamson is not going to be there in the AA knows that they're gonna dock the blue devils. But if coach K is playing this whole song and dance that well, you know, we're just hold them out. He's day to day. Well, it's been five games. He's been day to day. It's been three weeks. He's been day to day. And now, it's Duke UNC. We thought he was going to play as of yesterday. Now today, he's a scratch. Are they playing a little loose with the facts here? Are they gaming the system? I know there's a lot of do caters out there that will not like this. I want to hear from you eight five five two one two four CBS. That's eight five five two one two four two two seven. We're continuing the discussion earlier of all sorts of potential rule changes major league baseball. And in the Atlantic league. They are talking about a robot umpire, I'm all for it. We have the technology. Let's go somebody does not agree. We go to Kyle who's listening in in Myrtle Beach on ninety two point three over there. Kyle next up here on CBS sports radio. How are you? Good. Banker. Dear voice could hear some Cleveland voices in Myrtle Beach here. But so so you don't get enough of us coming down there in January and February and March I Wilson it up, but I'm a I'm a former Cleveland boy just moving down here. So anyway, so no, I I totally agree with the computer empire like that'd be great. But as far as like the shift and saying yelled at making changes for for anything else. It's just, you know, moving the mound back like I love watching the case go up on the floor and every time, you know, Buber strikes. Somebody out at home runs are great. But I'm more fundamental guy. I'm not looking for, you know. No money to go and everyone's pocket here. I just want to see some good fundamental baseball and see somebody throw amazing curveball. I think it's bizarre. Kyle look, I'm not one that says baseball has to change everything. I'd like to shorten the season. I really I'd like to go back to a time where there was actually an incentive to steal bases. Maybe that's where we want to tweak the system right now. I mean, it's either a home run or a strikeout think they could tweak that a little bit. But I do not want to ban the shift. I don't get that discussion at all. I agree. And also the the whole clock clock for the pitcher and everything like that. I really don't think it's going to shave time off the game. And you know, I mean, just the the changes seem ridiculous. I just leave a good a good sport the way it is. I baseball over any other sports. I call we appreciate the phone call from Myrtle Beach. A look I understand every sport has its gatekeepers. They have their diehards baseball just about more than any else any of the other sports. So I get it. You are clinging to what you knew what you grew up doing baseball was my first love collected. Baseball.

"Friday night, Saturday morning, we are recording. This about an hour before Mike's Jesse is going to speak with the media. So we don't know if he's going to the potential he Jesse in sixty three minutes from now say Ziya Williamson is definitely out Zion. Williamson is definitely playing am Williamson wants to play. But we don't know we'll make a decision close to game time. So there will be information. That makes Jesse talks to that. We can't address on this podcast because we got to turn this for you guys. Ample time to listen to the pod before the weekend games. Get rolling. I will not be surprised if that happened. I think it would be an awesome moment if it happened. But let's make our predictions here over under one second played by Ziya Williamson and the Duke North Carolina game on Saturday parish. What are you going with? I'll take the under. I don't think he's going to play. But I'm with you. It would I I would love to play. It would just be an awesome moment. You talk about making it where people who don't even care about. College basketball, which say, okay, I need to watch this. I don't think there would be anything. We could have in this regular season. That would be that would become appointment television. Like like, okay. Hey, I was about to go here. But now, I'm staying here to watch this. Then if it got announced within an hour of tip off. Oh, by the way Zion. Williamson is in uniform. He will be on the in the starting lineup for Duke tip off his in forty five minutes that you can't get bigger than that. I know. All right. Real quick trivia. The time are here we go. Komo. All right. Both teams ranked in the top five. How many times have Duke and North Carolina met when both were in the top five of the poll. That's not even fair trivia, Tom because they played a billion times you have to give me multiple choice on that. Okay. Let me. I'm gonna do four options. Okay. Have they met both in the top five have them at low to high here. All right, six nine twelve nineteen. How many times have they met top teams? You said six. Actually, I'm gonna say nine you're gonna say the wrong answer is the twelfth time that they have met and get this. It is their twelve meetings. Now as AP top five teams is five more than the next. Best matchup in college basketball history. Pretty incredible now one more thing this isn't tribute. I'm just crazy stat. So obviously, these are the best programs ever as of right now all time wins in college hoops history. Kentucky is number one nineteen o three Kansas number two eighteen.

"Having on give everything, and we know. Just without having. I mean day by day. We're we're getting there. You know, I it's it's over the course of a long season. And and this is a long season. Right. I mean, it's a thirty plus regular season games tournament. Then you're NCWA tournament. Like every team is going to go through things. But unless things look like, well, some of the things we'll talk about it a few minutes with the Boston Celtics. You probably don't overreact. You don't get too worried. You know, all indications are zion's coming back now Zion decides he's not coming back. Now, you negative things. I mean now, you get real things first and last ESPN radio Dari nowkhah with you that would that would be a concern has now you start looking at what is Duke without Zion. Where they got blasted by Carolina. They got beat by Virginia Tech. They're certainly not a onesie. They're probably not a two seed when it comes to the NC double A tournament. And so you have to look at them differently there. But the expectation is back in Zion may be back before their next big big game. Mitch at home against Miami home against Wake Forest, then they go to Carolina that'll be a big game. My hunch is I would think most people would agree that that grade one niece brain of Zion will have him back. On the floor for the Carolina game. And then you start to see now. Yes, it'll take a couple of games maybe to reimplement Zion. But by the ACC tournament, and certainly by the NCAA tournament, assuming zion's playing they're going to be back to their old self. So how much do you take away from lost in Virginia Tech? Frankly, I don't think you take that much. But as Seth Greenberg explains a championship run is dependent upon two guys and Zion is one of them. It's not about who's the MVP. They're trying to win a national championship. RJ barrett. Cannot win. You ask the championship without Zion? Williamson Ziya Williamson cannot win a national championship..

"And his injury was going to force him to have to miss a lot of the season possibly come back late in the year. And then have to you know, basically, go out there a couple of games. And that's it. He decided, you know, what I'm done with college football. I am going to now rehab and prepare for the NFL draft. So he basically sat out this entire year. And it didn't hurt him. He's still going to be the number one draft choice. He'll be down at the combine everybody will be just drooling over Nick NATO's, Nick Bosa. And so it's to a point where has Zayn done enough to say, you know, what I'm done with this. But I think by him coming back, the legend only grows the legend will grow. But that's and that's for him. I mean, and that that has value. If Ziya Williamson goes out and wins, the they win the tournament of Duke, and he just crushes it. Like that's worth something to him. That's worth something to him financially. Correct. Part of the package like there are benefits for him to go out and play. But you know, do could get upset and Sweet Sixteen Zion has a flat game. I'm not saying that's gonna make mean he falls out. Good pick. It just means. He doesn't get that value going forward. And so if you know there's so much people just like there's so much in the line. I understand, you know, is there a conventional injury other than maybe an achilles tear with somebody that young which we really super great. Yeah. Ace tears ACL still give me the number one pick absolutely number one all of this. The Sixers at about five years for twelve and beat after they know. They would do it all over again thing. I always go back to is Robert Edwards the running back and went to lane on some fun little each volleyball. Yeah. Beach football, thing whatever and like his knee inside of his knee explodes. Yeah. Chances that happened to John one thousand one whatever might be. But he's I mean, we're talking about a guy who could go out over the course of his career half a billion dollars, easy, easy. Near tell me he needs to play the tournament because he's going to let his teammate San. Let's broke down owes dukes of for half a billion dollars. Find me another profession where anybody would say, no, you can't do that. You shouldn't do that you owe to someone else to not preserve.

How many Russell Westbrook's are there in a league? So would you be okay with Tobias Harrison net? Would you be okay? With Jason Tatum. Say now or Aron Baynes. Yes, why how about cows kids can Ziya Williamson say that? I would be okay with you saying they're saying it out loud just imagining that mindset that you have to take I understand. But just imagine a repercussions. If we had, you know, grant, Williamson Tennessee say nut or Aaron Bain saying that from the Celtics we have in a completely different conversation up here really reason, we're not because that's Russell Westbrook. I say I think a lot of those guys do say that they just don't say it out loud. I mean, I think a lot of them take that you're right like that's their attitude anyway, because how else do you get through all of this and not be affected those covered primarily the college game. And we all know that in the college game. There were a lot of the coaches who take their players off of social media throughout their seasons. And the reason is because it is non-productive. It's not doing them any good to be sitting there paying attention to what all of the haters. They're not critics. They're haters are. Saying to them on a regular basis. And Russell Westbrook is basically saying I don't give a bleep, right? But it's not just about sports and entertainment or people that are famous. "The three point. Live with trae Jones on the court. This is a team that shoots ten percent higher in transition trae Jones on the court. So why why because it starts with the defensive starch was ability to defend disruptive. Turn the ball to pressure. The ball hammered to create turnovers which allows Ziya Williamson RJ Barrett to get out in transition. And then if you think about that I deem against Virginia. You know, there was so much responsibility of putting a ball and RJ Barrett's hands. No one was there to get him the ball. Trae Jones is the most important Duke blue devil because he sets the table for Barrett. And he sets the table for Williams. Former blue Jay Williams on PTI would be one difference maker on Duke that puts them over the hump and comparing him to a player that was in rarified air. I don't put him in that rarefied air as of yet. Mike, I think the kid is exquisitely talented, look, he's a social media wonder of the world. It's really insane. What he brings to the table from a marketability perspective. And obviously he's able to move the needle for any franchise gets him. I guess what could potentially get him in that rarefied air is the continue evolution of his game. You haven't seen them taking membranes jump shot. He hasn't mastered. A three point shot yet. I still think there's certain aspects of his game. He needs to continue to work on. But the upside is the scary part about him and at two hundred and. Eighty five pounds. Nobody's really gonna stop him from driving to the rim finishing over the top of people. Even when you think about some of the best shop lockers in the game. I think he has athleticism to finish over the top of them. So he's a highlight reel. But I'm not saying he's gonna walk into the NBA franchise player. Right. A one. Yeah. Hard to put him in Michael Jordan's class just yet around the horn with this prediction on that.

"Number two verse number three take to this time. John Paul Jones arena in Charlottesville, also on ESPN television Virginia has helped nine opponents of fewer than fifty points this season. Three more than any other team in division one. But Cavaliers allowed a season. I seventy two in their loss to Duke on January nineteenth the game that didn't have trade Jones. He's back for the blue devils. Seth Greenberg on his impact impact is absolutely huge. Think about this. This is a Duke team that you ten percent higher from the three point line with trae Jones on the court. This is a team that shoots ten percent higher in transition with trae Jones on the court. So why why because it starts with the defense? It starts ability not to defend to turn the ball handler to pressure. But I'm not saying he's gonna walk into the NBA. Be a franchise player rider one. Yeah. Put him in Michael Jordan's class just yet around the horn with this prediction on that tip union wins it by finally shooting, the three pointers, they shoot them. Usually the only made fourteen percent in Cameron and Virginia plays great defense at home with their defense. Let him down and Cameron. They're gonna win this game. Yeah. I know that was only a two point win at home for do. They were without trae Jones. And they still had a inefficient game shot better than fifty percent. I think they're going to go ahead and stab some dominance in the west this one and win at Virginia. Virginia Super Bowl blue devils. Cavaliers preceded by number one, Tennessee against Florida. It's on ESPN and the watch ESPN app at four eastern Tennessee is program won seventeen.

"It was hard to walk away from that team and say that they're not the best team in the country. And when they get him back. They're going to be even better. Nice Jesse did in that game changing beef you once but then all of a sudden do kid wall defensively and Virginia dot rhythm going to result game in front. Contesting shots aching. Kyle guy out of his that was his port anything defensively. And then offensively his ability to get the ball in the middle of the floor to RJ barrack Ziya Williamson and create enough moving away from the ball to keep the pack line occupied. So those guys could take over the game. 'cause they scored in the pain. They did it off the bats. They did enough attacking off the bounce not posting it. But posting it on the bounce those two guys took over the game. But they can't take over the game. Unless you have a movement movement away from the ball all that being said. Yeah, we're constantly talking about do. They deserve a lot of credit. I think Tennessee deserves credit to but Tennessee, here's all that stuff about Duke. And if there's anything, you know, about Tennessee, it's a huge, there's a massive chip on their shoulder. That's how they play every single game. So that matchup were to happen. Wow. Let me ask you this. Do you think grant Williams is worried about planning Belgium's, he's grown, man? Neither federal skull field. Yeah. And the play of Jordan bound right now, he's planning elite level in league play Jordan about seventy nine points a game. Forty five percent from three. They've got other guys now stepping up. Kyle alexander. Pretty good Duke one to Virginia number three. They got three first place votes there followed by Gonzaga and Michigan. Michigan state, Nevada Kentucky, Kansas Virginia Tech. Rounding out the top ten Spartans picking up the two first place votes that were remaining Michigan state ranked sixth. But they also remain number one in the big ten conference after their match up with Maryland on Monday or the ball. Now caches they're going for another three..

"A guiding principle. I don't I try not to punish teams for losing games that they were supposed to lose. And this by definition was that for Jinya not now. Now, they lose by fifteen or even like nine that's a different deal. But when you lose a one possession game on the road that you were supposed to lose than I just I don't see. I don't see how what happened yesterday makes Virginia any less than what we thought for Jinya was on Saturday morning. And so I kept Virginia at number two. I had one Tennessee to Virginia three Gonzaga got Duke up to four and the argument is that this the argument from Duke fans, we just beat them. How can they be head of us? Well, simply because I think they got a better resume than you. I know you just beat them. Do you also just to Syracuse, Sarah Cue's, beheaded, you Baylor just beat Texas Tech should Baylor. Texas Tech West Virginia just be Keynes's should West Virginia beheaded cans, it's like nobody makes arguments. I don't know why you make them at the top of the rankings to be clear if somebody's got Duke on a ballot on Monday ahead of Jimmie gotten around with that it's sensible you can rationalize it. But I don't think it's crazy to keep Virginia. Right. Where head Virginia. Yeah. No in Virginia still ranks ahead in some metrics in spite of this outcome number one in Massey. Number one in Ken palm, still and only up to. No shame in that. At all. This is further down the road and something we'll talk about after they have their rematch. But since the committee of pudding intra conference teams in the same region in the tournament. If you're a one two three or four seed, if Virginia returned servants Charlottesville could have an intriguing battle for who gets the one seed in DC or Louisville. If Duke wins that game, you would think that ducal probably have the leg up there. But overall, listen that was the that was the central game to a loaded Saturday with with plenty of of interesting results of a few of which were still going to get to Paris teased at the top of the pod. But to get that kind of result. And I even think a loss not to repeat myself totally but with how Virginia play now, it wasn't totally to the styling that that Duke wanted it for, but I do think that Duke did push the pace a little bit. You saw Virginia on offense trying to with hunter who I thought played pr-. Pretty well tied Jerome was. He was good in spots. And I thought he could have been a little bit better. Same with Jacksonville, you had J early parachute agreed tweak. Jay huff had like three consecutive possessions. Where it was like, okay. This Jay moment. Like it's gonna go down right now. And then Ziya Williamson completely reminded huff that he was J to quote to quote, you and a nasty swat which at I look like to hand block. But it was only a one handed block with the with the left arm and hand up there just as perhaps a little bit of a security blanket, but Williamson on the transition play when he had three or four Virginia guys on them and still dunked it and got fouled. Just I mean, that's the stuff man that is this is what makes that just within the confines of our site. What we write about this podcast college basketball when you get Virginia and Duplin that kind of game and then Williamson Barikot off like that. You know, it's good for the sport. It just is. And I'm hearing a little bit of like Ducas likable this year. I don't think. So I mean, maybe they're more entertaining, and you can embrace them more because of this element. They have with Williamson and Barrett who had bear thirty or thirty something like that. At twenty seven they combined for fifty seven of the seventy two right? I get that. But there are still people that live to Duke. So I'm not buying that. This is somehow now becoming. A team where a lot of people are are completely siding and becoming phantom. I might be misguided in that. But I still think Minneapolis podcasts. Normally either Duke don't like they're still kind of feeling that. And frankly, even though we absolutely should be starting with them..
