"Had we never called them how they're listening just expired and maybe they know us from social or maybe they know us from direct mail or they know us from the past of things. So they sort of know us from our marketing and advertising, but they don't know us personally. Would they have called us once that listing expired? No. They wouldn't have. But when we called because the listing expired because then they felt like they already knew us from all the passive stuff we were doing. It was an unfair advantage and I want all of you guys to experience that as well. Yes, and when you do the proactive stuff first, it's amazing how much more quickly your skill level increases. So if you take an agent who's done nothing but wall to wall videos and social posts for two years, right? And versus somebody who has kept themselves on the phone and in real meetings and real conversations, and they've had a little bit of rejection, but a lot of success as well. That agent who's been proactive, their skill level is going to be so much more honed in that they're going to know what to do when the phone does ring versus somebody who spends all of their time doing the passive stuff, kind of praying to the real estate gods and running on hopium, where, okay, let's say that their phone does ring. They have yet to build the skill to sift and sort to use pre qualification scripts to get their pre listing package in line. And so what if that gives them a little inkling, they may not even see it when it comes in. The skill level that you get happens to you so much more quickly. I think about we were just talking about Ziggy in New York. And Chris Leon in Chicago, they're great examples of people who have actively gone after it and seen a huge increase in their business. And along with their skill level but those are relatively new agents, right? I mean, when we started coaching them, I don't think either one of them had been in the business for a year. Well, Ziggy was part time. Yeah, that's right. Yep. And Chris was coming from his own investments, mostly. Right, rental properties. And Ziggy is listing. I think she's got like ten pending and 12 actives..

Aladdin sane and the thin white duke. All of alter egos took a toll on bowie but none more than ziggy stardust. Does anybody have any thoughts on the altar equals. Afaq signed david bowie. And what about the thin white do that went along with the station to station. That's particular particular persona. Which was actually as i meant to be abrasive and and I think it was a time. Where david Pretended to embrace facets of rain which of course made more than a few waves whether it was that was part of the persona who knows but that particular character did certain. Nixon waves the one of the things. I my personal favorite bowie. Album is is scary. Monsters okay interesting. It's a. It's a sergeant at borough of david's collection agree it's olga jack. Amazon Alexa Gets New Voices, Including Actors Melissa McCarthy and Samuel L. Jackson

"This month. Alexa is going to sound a little bit. Different on july fifteenth the tech giant rolled out an update to its digital voice assistant to include a second voice option. As you know amazon's assistant typically has like a feminine sounding voice with this update. You can change that to a more masculine voice setting this all up his quite simple. You just say the assistant's name followed by quote. Change your voice and quote but that's not all there's an additional wake word you can use in place of alexa. That new word is ziggy Basically it works the same way instead of saying the primary name of amazon's digital assistant You can say ziggy instead. If you're a fan of gigi and you've never tried to swap out the wake word and you kind of want to try it out. Anyway you have some other choices to You can use amazon. You can use echo or you can use computer And the way to do this is really simple. Just like with the change. Your voice option. You can make a query to the assistant and say change the wake word to whatever you want Another way to do this too is open up the app for the voice assistant go to the menu. Select your settings than device settings. Then you go to the device that you want to update with this new wake word and then you choose the when you want and that's it now if you don't want either of these options for voices you can actually add a little bit of celebrity flare After introducing an option awhile. Back to add actor. Samuel jackson's voice to queries amazon is much similar offerings featuring actress melissa mccarthy an nba legend shaquille. O'neal so the way it works is you kind of ask them directly as you would amazon's digital assistance. You might say hey shack. Tell me about the weather. Hey samuel Tell me about the news today. And it works exactly the same way and they will read everything in

I'm i'm saying. Yeah but he wanted me to be just like him like he wanted to be. Do the things that you know. What did i mean i did. Learn a lot from two guys. That's the way i am. I didn't. Your dad said to you when he was in the hospital into a song yet. But i'm not satisfied with he. I did but i'm not so despite i'm gonna do it again. Beautiful lyric. yeah yeah. Why do you say you're not you. I assume you i don't wanna put words in your mouth but i assume for that in that moment and i had that same type moment with my dad and the hospital and the things he said to me and things that i think about all the time but for for that literate you wanna you want to nail it with that right the you that. That's gotta be perfection from you if that's the last in essence sentence that your dad said you. Yup what did what are the Many years ago. I did the idea of it would put it. Is it just the concept of love loving everyone everything around you but sometimes love can mean tough love. Love can mean letting go of people right yeah mine. Churchill that's true yeah love. "Massive and it definitely had shades of that early punk too. I mean it was faster than anything else on that and it had more of drive to just a pummeling drive. And you're just like oh. Yeah those rifts. Just magical and i can see how that one took over star man as far as popularity goes because it's the one that really makes you shake your ass and move your booty rock and fucking role mock as well and i don't know who made the decision to put out rock and roll suicide as the next single but it wasn't the guy who decided to make separate city v side because if they're making that decision they could have really hurt things in the progress that david bowie was making because the record just took over and became an aor hit so all these free form rock stations that liked david. Bowie were in markets where he was really getting popular replying multiple tracks. And that's where you start to hear stuff like hang on to yourself on the radio and moore's ziggy stardust. I think over the years starman and rock and roll suicide. I take a backseat to songs like at city ziggy stardust. And even five years on this album because the fans decided that they like those songs better than the singles and the radio guys did too and that kind of pushed the whole thing in a different direction at the original intent was but you know at our ca in may man. We're happy about it. Became a success and it had started to deliver on what the hype had promised. David bowie was becoming a rockstar. He over delivered on ziggy stardust. Without a doubt that album is completely outlived the character the concept. It's an album that the band. He outlived the man. Oh absolutely and the ziggy stardust. Concept is gonna outlive david bowie by many decades because of its chameleon like ability in the relevance predicting the end of the world and then we feel like sometimes today we're coming close to the end of the world with some of the crazy things that are happening this album influence so many musicians and so many genres of music moving forward. It had a huge influence on the whole underground alternative scene. It had a huge influence on the punk scene moving forward. It had an influence on pop music moving forward. It really really hit the gamut and then fashion. He had an impact on fashion on makeup on sex because of the andhra janie aspect. And the fact that at that time period he came out and said he was homosexual or he said he was gay to the media and just caused insane frenzy. There were all of those areas. I just want to say one thing. I read a lot about david and reduce perspectives on. All i could say is everything. Get from where he was right before this through this and onto the next thing was a contrivance everything was a plan when he said that he was gay or bisexual it was to evoke the response to get the press to get the uis in the is to create controversy. There are a lot of other points in his career. He did the same thing with other aspects of it and he was a master at the craft of branding. Personas whatever you wanna call it. Right down to the heartbreaking last days of his life so this is the point. Where david bowie. The person deep down inside all that realizes. I've got them right. Where i want them any did too at the end of side to rock and roll suicide another song by the way it sounds way better on the david live version recorded at the tower theater. Just saying that if they were looking for any song that they didn't put on the record it was recorded in these sessions. It had to be john. I'm only dancing just amazing song. It was put out as a single never was kind of a lincoln to the gay community. Everything was groovy you know. And yet they didn't put it on record just hung out there for years as a rarity and then later of course got onto compilations. What not i started on the changes records That's where i i got my taste of john. I'm only dancing. I just have to exhale. Because we've been going on about this. And all i can tell you is that one of the things i didn't expect was to be this exhausted after talking about something that i love so much. This album is been a core. Favorite one hundred albums probably. I don't really do those less. But you know what i'm saying for me for all these decades now and it continues to bring joy every time i listen to it and i've been listening to a lot lately. Do i look more joyful than my than we got together. Yes you definitely look happier. And i love that joyful. Look on your face in it. Takes you back to a time when and this was all new and fresh so that impact as well gives you sort of that younger fresher. Feel and yeah. It's amazing again. The power of music always present always delivering including on this episode about david bowie's ziggy stardust. Because i never ever get tired of talking about it or listening to for digging in and finding out what. The real story is just part of what we tried to do here. So that's why we're always asking you guys. You know were what you experienced so thanks for your part in that. It is part of the reason we do this. Podcast i sit here and have fun talking about david. Bowie's stardust granny the other subjects that we talk about when it comes down to it. That's really like our core mission is to learn and to help others learn about this music that we love and we just keep learning here almost two into it now feel like i'm working towards a professorship of some sort because of all the learning we're doing and i hope that in my older years i can still continue to remember all of this stuff for conversations down the line because off. "A rockin roller you put on side to and it starts with lady stardust. Little bit more laid back off feel right and then in the star another song just issued out start us in star tied together stardust. It's almost like those three were written together and then even may be separated and made into multiple songs because of their connections. And if you listen to lady start a star then hang on to yourself. Ziggy stardust. I think you might actually feel the love. Three songs and three star songs are connected but hang on to yourself is beautiful. It's got that early punk sound in it. It's got even some of that early. Little bit of metal riffing. I think mick ronson guitar is just so fantastic in this about that is thing about that. Thing is that's one of the few songs on this record that you almost feel could have been on honky dory or aladdin sane but there it is right in the middle making that connection and that's probably why it ended up there. It makes you wonder if a lot of the songs that he wrote. Post ziggy stardust. We're already brewing in his brain. And maybe he had notes on some of these songs because you feel and you see ties and connections to all these songs even though he switched persona they're still connections here and there that are small. I wanna ask you one of those out of the blue questions that come up sometimes on this podcast okay. Do you think taking the position that what you were just saying is true. Do you think since he had future ideas in his head that he felt the only way he could move on from. This kind of mania for this artist as ziggy was to kill ziggy so that he could step forward to become the next character and thin white duke and everything else. Do you think that was part of his thinking. Absolutely i think it was ken. Scott who said after three or four takes he gets bored. I think that might have made the same impact with the character like After eighteen months two years he's bored with it and he's going to move onto something else. Oh i think yeah he definitely even though he connected the songs. I think he already had a plan with moving the characters forward. The next song is the song ziggy stardust. And then thank track right one of the great songs. It kind of describes the whole thing that the story is about and it helps to pull together all the pieces. Let me ask you. Something just said about him moving on and all that does it happen before or after you walk out on stage show and you look out and kept the kids in the first ten. Rose are looking exactly like you dressed as ziggy or after that. Does it happen before he sees the hat or after it starts to happen. I think he starts to see it as a and he's like well if they're me than i have to move ahead and move onto the next one so that they can evolve into what i am as well or following undoing but again who knows he was also one of those who just like to create and continue to create and continue to evolve and change. It.

"You know ray since we're talking about ziggy stardust. And the spiders from mars d. You remember the first time you heard the record or did you hear a song off the record on the radio and then by the record because of what you heard on the radio i had bought changes and ended up right away buying ziggy stardust. And the spiders from mars like within a week after getting changes. Because i was like. I need more bowie. I'm thinking about how old you were then. I was moved to the been because the suffragette city no doubt about it the way that the rest of the record unfolded to me was as a listener. And when you finally get your head around the whole thing you realize it's not about the single even though there was a pretty successful single for david bowie. It's not about the single. Let's talk about the rise and fall. ziggy stardust. And the spiders from mars. They said into the studio. I and seventy one with ken. Scott again who had worked with them on honky dory. Kansas an amazing guy. I read his book. And all say is if you want to know about his leisa when it came to producing an studios. Especially if you're a microphone gear geek. It's a great book from ken. Scott and i think ziggys and the title somewhere so if you type in skin scott zig but he was with him on hunky dory and he's plugged in and i think that's one of those things that helps to create the momentum that we were talking about when they get into the studio for real in late seventy one. That's where most of the work was done. More work in february to finish things up in that first session early in the life of ziggy stardust was actually a song. I wanna talk to you before we get into going through track by track. It's a song called inning easy. I don't really know how it ended up on the record a song written by ron davies davies as people would say ron davies. It's the end aside one and it's chest this energizing track. That really came from out of nowhere. And i guess that was the starting point for the recording sessions. But the real meat of what zeki would become would come in those sessions later in the year and then into seventy two. So that's the genesis of it and this is the period of time and david's career where he has done his thing with harrow. Myers right antoni. To freeze has come in maine. Man is come in and they primarily taken over the direction and management. And all say. Is that tony for all of his flamboyant spending practices which are well documented. He really was a spin golly of a manager he was all about spinning the image at a time when image was everything he was out. There spinning the image of bowie is this emerging rockstar not as a rock performer. He already was portraying him out there and having him portrayed as a rock star. Bowie carried himself that way so they got into recording. And they're already in the mood. You know what i mean. They're already in the mood to make this record and that to me is a big part of why the record became so successful why it sounds so goddamn good. Every time is they were ready. They'd been in the studio lot in the last year year and a half they recorded honky dory. They'd been on the road. So how were they ready after being so tired and so overworked in so many ways. And the fact that they put this work of brilliance out the way they did through all of this insanity and maelstrom. That was around. Them is pretty incredible. David hepworth in his book talks a lot about that with different stories but that kind of the maelstrom he gives you. The maelstrom moments in a lot of stories. And i'd say is that when they got locked in and they started doing these things they were on a mission they were not just hired. Whether you're in a band or you're an artist working with a couple of your primary collaborators. You're on a mission. Was a different time in. Music was approached differently and wants the concept of ziggy stardust. Started to come together. I'm sure tony and bowie and ken scott. We're talking a lot about it. It didn't happen in a vacuum. The spiders from mars are absolutely incredibly valuable to the whole process now on that first session in one thousand nine seventy one having already contributed keyboards to previous projects for bowie. Rick wakeman did the harpsichord part on that on an easy and his girlfriend who is one of his many girlfriends. Not rick's always dana goalby. Did the backing vocals here along with bowie and the members of the spiders. There's even trumpet from trevor and all kinds of different stuff and that's the different. Feel of that. I just heard that song. When i first heard the record i just went well. What the fuck is this. And that's after here in five years and soul love and moon aged daydream and storm and then they jump into. It ain't easy so that's why i wanted to start there because that song is different from a lot of the other things. The rest of it is pure bowie at his finest and on the rick wakeman notes. They had asked rick wakeman to join the band and he declined because earlier that day yes asked him to joined. I think he made a smart move there his role and yes is outlast. The spiders from mars is the turns out but he is. He is an incredibly talented guy. And that's somebody. We have to do a story about some time. But man you drop the needle if you're somebody who's been waiting whether you're a kid from philly or anywhere that had already turned on david bowie in his music and five years comes in you. Think about the plaintive vocals. Bowie gives you on the chorus leading down the stretch. The way the band set.

"World. And now he's going to retire. Nobody could believe there was a lot of misunderstanding. 'cause the news travel differently in nineteen seventy-three than it does say today just a bit yet. Await for rolling stone to tell you what actually fucking happen. That was Circumstances is is bowie. Kinda got burned out a little bit and put the kabosh on the ziggy part of his career but focusing the fans in the momentum in the energy towards what he really meant see. I didn't even use the quote unquote but he really meant that ziggy was going to retire. And let's talk about ziggy the character because there is always a lot of conjecture about ziggy was really in in some ways. It's a compendium of different real life characters a little bit of bowie injection of himself etc into it as well. I think it's definitely somebody that bowie wanted to be or envisioned himself as or part of who he is or who he was at that time. And like you said it was interesting. How the whole concept came to be. I'm going to be presumptive. And say that. I think david bowie had the idea for disease stardust inspite. His remarks concept ready when he recorded the man who sold the world because of the whole story of ziggy coming here to warn humans. That earth is five years away from destruction. And so i think ziggy started during that time period but then with the album and the creation of the spiders from mars he was able to really bring concept to life and the spiders played on the previous record too so there was momentum building there. There was always this thing that because of the line about ziggy played guitar that it was about hendrix. You know the screwed up hairdo and the whole nine yards but bowie later revealed that the song was based on Vince taylor who had a short but not very successful career.

"The spiders from mars in a way. Yeah but you didn't think about it until it hit you. You were like oh that second wave did he. You know just kind of look at them like after the fact it's one of those holes a experience the the making of the album the getting there the setting the stage all these elements are into place and they deliver this album with the band. The spiders from mars course with the your favorite guitarist. Mick ronson trevor bolder on the base. Woody would mansi on the drums. They were the spider. Bowie was their de facto leader. Whipping them into a frenzy every night onstage. The music the came out of the album the music came off though stages takes them to one place and an event that shocked the rock and roll world. That night was the end of ziggy stardust. And the spiders from mars and nobody knew it until bowie said it. Everybody knew everybody. This is one of the greatest to us about live. We really i i. I'd like to thank the band. thank i wrote. Crew allies in people of all the shows on this to this. This particular show will remain with this longest because not only is it not only is last show of the tour is the last show that will ever to then we come to find out after the fact that mick ronson and the manager tony the freeze the only other two people who knew about it but it shocked everybody and i'm sure that the crowd and the you know the audience at the concert were like. Oh that's just bowie shocking people. Oh that's just bowie being edgy. Not really knowing what was happening it was no warning. There was no warning so the crowd just sitting there enjoying that. They know it's the last night of the ziggy stardust tour. Not knowing like you said nobody really knew that he was going to say this. It could have been the exhaustion. They caused him to collapse at the garden when he was playing in the. Us could have been any number of elements involved. Could have been the entangled web of finances with tony to freeze as well and everything that was going on with me man even at that point so it was also a most meteoric year for david. Bowie and tired. I don't think most people understand. What tire is. He gets to an end of a tour. And when you get to the end of the tour and there you are. You're in london. So all you gotta do is basically finishing go home and spend time with your friends or whatever bowie just basically said. that's it for breaking up in bowie. Went through a lot of changes. Through the years. There were always chameleon like changes through the phases. But this was the second maybe third kind of a change that he'd gone through when you think about the pre ziggy bowie. And then the early voting who is just as comfortable walking around in pants and shirt address that would change. But you understand what i'm saying. There was those early days when it was more like a musical collective more in the in the time. When laurence myers was involved true and this is an example of how david bowie's mind work. He would do something and then he would get bored with it and then he would change and evolve and my guess is is will. Nc's created these characters or personas are images or whatever pop culture fashion. He wanted to impact in some way. He was already thinking or getting ready to set up the next thing that he was gonna do because his mind seemed to work that way and watching. Ziggy stardust. documentary that talks about this concert. And then some of the other things like recording the album david bowie back then would only do three or four takes because after that he would get bored so to keep his interest or his attention. Everything had to be done in three or four takes and the vocals from ziggy stardust. And the spiders from mars. The album almost every single one of them was a i take recording. So that means he hit it i take. That says a lot about his vocal talent which i don't know if he gets enough credit for sometimes but that dude was insane talented vocally to offer a little perspective. There were oftentimes even on the best beatles records where there will be twelve or fifteen takes sometimes even more so i hate is almost legendarily unheard of and who get bored with. It is part of what we're going to see if we do a longer. Look at david bowie. When we do one of the things that i think that made him chameleon like throughout his career was that need for change for regeneration for being challenged and we don't need to get in all that day. 'cause we gotta talk about ziggy here on the imbalance history of rock and roll kind of like drifted into talking about all the end game stuff things that happened at the end of the tour. And in the second. Half today marcus. We've discussed just talking about the music. Was that's what it was really all about. The excitement level that was raised the shows the increasing number of sold out shows the case by the way tony was a guy who has a manager would try to make it appear bigger and play a bigger house than they were sure they could fill because of enemy filled it. It looked great and he did really well financially but a lot of times. They ended up papering houses early on even at the beginning of ziggy stardust. Tour until the mania kicked in yet. The label was forking out money on the so. Fact that david bowie was going to become a big huge rockstar and his manager played a big role in that because his manager was able to convince the label to continue to throw them money and give them the full rockstar treatment even though he had not quite reached that level yet but he definitely knew where he wanted to go. When we do the bigger bowie episode. We'll discuss all that stuff in all the nuance and the personality intertwining. That goes on along the way but here. We are talking about ziggy stardust. The legendary album here on the imbalance history of rock and roll. And we kinda got started by talking about the end including the night where he announces onstage. Unbeknownst to all except for a couple that they're ending the ziggy thing breaking up the band and initially when that word got out i remember. I was old enough to remember the emotions of the fans. They thought. Maybe this was it you know. They finally got bowie to be like this superstar in all parts of the us on growing in all parts of the rock and roll.

These smooth headed blob fish scientific classification psych release, Mike reporters, doesn't speak English and lives about three thousand three hundred feet. That's a thousand meters under the ocean because in two thousand thirteen it was voted the world's ugliest animal by the ugly animal, preservation society. It wasn't fondness. But it still might have stung the blog fishes disgruntled visage became an overnight international sensation in two thousand three when the nor fans research expedition pulled up a large pink blob fish off the northwest coast of New Zealand with a broad smooth forehead, floppy snout, and why downturn mouth it resembled? The cartoon character Ziggy after a month long bender or teddy from Bob's burgers after the same pick your cultural reference to make matters not better. It had a parasitic copepod hanging out of its mouth the crew called it Mr. blobby and snapped a now famous photo some would go so far to call it a mugshot of. Bulbous fish out of water part of the blob fishes charm. If you want to call it that lies in the uncanny valley, it's face looks sort of human, but not quite, but here's the thing. We were never meant to see the blob fish like this. We spoke with Gareth Frazier. A professor in the department of biology at the university of Florida who studies the evolutionary development of marine fishes. He said blood Fisher, pretty normal looking underwater. They only really become a blob when they transitioned from the pressure at depth to the surface, in my opinion. They were awarded the ugliest animal status unjustly. So why is the blob fish so blobby? It's actually a very clever adaptation at the extreme depths that the blob fish calls home. They go about their business experiencing about one hundred and twenty times the pressure. We do on dry land because of this. They don't need very much bone or muscle to give their bodies form. They just let the pressure of the bottom of the ocean. Do all that work for them. But appear in the air. There's nothing to keep a blob. Vicious body from melting into a formless globular puddle tariff Irma is definitely not where the blob fish shines. But under the see the blob fishes jello. Like flesh is highly useful of other fish can keep themselves at their preferred depth. Thanks to Hindi little gas filled sacs called swim bladders, but in the high pressures of the deep sea a swim bladder would just burst. The blood fish found a workaround their flesh has a buoyant jelly like consistency. That keeps them cruising around at the depth at which they're most comfortable. Although very little is known about the blog fishes life history. Another blob ish aspect of this animal is that it doesn't seem to move around very much or have very many friends. Remember, they have very little muscles. So it's not like they're the most ferocious predators of the deep sea. Nobody has ever seen a blog fish eat. But scientists think that they most likely enjoy a diet of whatever just floats into their mouths. In addition every blob fish ever spotted by researchers has been alone. They don't seem to school up in scientists are not sure how they reproduce or how often they encounter others of their kind. Scarcity of blob fish in their known habitat has some scientists concerned, although it's possible there being caught up in trawling nets at that depth. It's not likely those nuts are big. But not that big what poses a bigger threat to the blog vision. The long term is rising ocean. Temperatures blog fish seemed need to live in very deep cold water, which will be harder to find as ocean. Temperatures rise, by the way.
