"But it was like idealized. And then. Adam was lonely and he needed some help. So God made it. Mate named Eve. And, it was in garden and the only instruction should got was shall not eat the fruit from that tree yet knee will die if you each from this tree and a snake came along, and in Biblical days, a snake was the harbinger of wisdom. Snakes were good luck in. Days in snakes said to eve you won't die I you will be born again you will become wise. This is the tree that will make you wise. Also. It's delicious. So even wanted to eat the apple she wanted to become wise. So she ate and gave it to Adam and after that was the fall while evil came and they were exiled and they went out into the world, the Bible is full of stories of heroes. In Moses, he's this. This is on page forty six, the essence of teachings, many of which found their way into the old and new testaments of the Bible can be distilled down to this number. One men are better than women even the wicked men are better than women to a woman sense of shame is deserved shame for what out of control motions want and sexuality. That has the power to tempt a man and destroy his virtue three. A woman should be silent with a bound up mouth and quotes for men dominate women to protect women from other men and five. And you just see this lived out every day. Now, alliances between women are dangerous. I have many quotes that I founded my mouth was open as I was finding them from great. Jewish and Christian sinkers from Augustine to great Robert that the quotes are astounding in their at jacked. Misogyny women to lower class citizens who must keep quiet and do the men sitting massage. And I have to say that I am a if you could see right now I, have a whole. Statues and God's, and you know like a believer I'm a proud of pain which is code word for like. Believer, with some caveats and open to other ideas but like these people that you quote here. I read their stuff. And when I saw like Martin Luther quote if women become tired or even die that does not matter. Let them die in childbirth at his why they're? Saint Thomas Qantas as regards the Individual Nature Woman is defective and Miss Begotten for the active force in the mail seed tends to the production of a perfect likeness in the masculine sex while the production of women comes from a defect in the act of force or you wonder why women have so much shame about our bodies, our emotions, our desires, our dreams, and that doesn't mean that Thomas quietness and all the Great Christian mystics who I love to a low said, that was my entry into spirituality that doesn't mean everything they said was wrong in Bat. But well, I'm fine to Cherry pick the beauty from the great world religion. And I do it but it's good to know because it helps you think it's not just yourself. It's not just knew who either from your childhood or just make up those carton around this wagon of shame it has been with us from the Tell me about Casandra well, Cassandra was. First of all she is made up only people were made up. Okay. They weren't real people. It's a good number. Some mental some stories and they've become real. But CASSANDRA was the most beautiful princess of Troy and Troy was the enemy Greece in you know about the Trojan war. Odyssey and deceasing. CASSANDRA was king practices daughter and everyone was after her Zeus King of the gods his son mortal men everyone wanted her to woo there what she a God a Democrat a not a Demi God her got. She was a mortal. Okay. Troy and so Apollo was the one who wooed her with the gift. She really wanted. He said you will be clairvoyant. You will know the future will be able to tell a future. She wanted that and so he neglected to say that should I give it to you. Then you will have to have sex with me right now and She took the gift. Then when he tried to have sex with her she refused and he was furious and as the story goes, he spat a person to her mouth and the curse was you'll still be clairvoyant CASSANDRA. But no one will believe you. In fact, they'll think you're hysterical. Think you're making it up..

"Earth lived remote from ills without harsh toils in the grievous sicknesses that are deadly to me. Yeah, one of the stories that has said tells in works and days is about why hard work is needed if men want to build up their wealth and yes, he was referring just to men. Not. A Super Progressive Policy was a century. So give them a pass, but there was a former time according to this mythology when food and other things were abundant and earth provided all the men could want but then permit theus. Titan Trick Zeus King of the Gods and stole the use of fire from the gods so that men could use it. Zeus rights has responded angrily by sending to Earth a terrible affliction. To set against the fire, I shall give them an affliction which they will all delight as they embrace their own misfortune. A. That's how I said He. Wasn't a super woke writer. Specifically a woman named Pandora Jar or box unleashed terrible things upon all mortals when she opened it, one of those hardships was that for people to get what they wanted, they would have to work for it food. For instance, the Ad Rights was now sealed by the Gods so people would have to toil in the fields if they wanted something to eat in other words, the Gods introduced scarcity to the world and scarcity is the first team we're going to discuss from the poem Stephen Med. Ma Author of economics book says that the Economics Definition of scarcity though is different from the way that normal. People. Use it when they mean a shortage of something that might run out when the economist talks about scarcity what he's really talking about is is available resources are limited relative to human wants scarcity is economics one. Oh One, the idea that the world has finite resources. So we have to make choices about how to use those resources like land is a resource. So if US land to ride horses or I don't know throw keg parties whatever your also choosing not to use it as farmland and crops won't grow in here has is using the concept of scarcity unleashed by Pandora's jar to lecture his brother. On why hard work is a moral virtue after Percy's had blown his half of the family money and perseus squandered a whole bunch of that. Saying you gotTa work, you need to earn your way. He's arguing, and if you don't, you're not going to be well viewed by the people around you which brings us to the second economic theme and has the odds poem. Shame. Namely, the role of shame in a market economy Stevens is this kind of societal disapproval can help economy work better if it creates social norms of. Fairness, and trust and has the out writes about the importance of property rights. The idea that earned something yourself you get to keep it for yourself or you know you can also voluntarily trade it for something else without property rights people might not work hard because then the stuff they make could be taken from them. This was an early iteration of the idea that the law and. A sense of shame can reinforce good social norms and respect for property rights, and this is good for a whole economy. That's true of countries to this very day Stevens says Percy's has his brother is trying to cheat helps you out of his own share of the inheritance right? He's not respecting Hessy's property rights, and so there's that sort of personal lesson to tell with the much broader or more general implications which brings us to the third big economic theme in works days. The role of envy in the economy has he had rights that when you look at the wealth of others and see that they have worked hard for that wealth, then it might lead you to. Work hard to attain that same wealth has he had refers to this form of envy as strife and he says, it is good for mortals but Stephen says economists no that strife by a different name when he uses the word strife, the economist reach the word competition and there's good competition and there's destructive competition and what he's emphasizing here of course is the good competition, right so for the patient to work hard or at least part of it is it's a keeping up with the Joneses he fact that I want half what that person has in. So I'm going to work hard. So I can be like her or keeping up with like, I don't know demosthenis effect. Jones of back then. Percy's was envious of Heseltine's wealth, and Hessy was trying to convince Percy's of a better alternative, a more ethical alternative to satisfying his envy. Then to seize, it's half of the wealth work hard build the wealth yourself and the God's will bless you and this is an underlying theme in works and days that peaceful competition is better than destructive seizing or conquest this can apply. To countries as much as it applies to feuding brothers from ancient Greece has said writes quote violence is bad for a lowly man, not even a man of worth can carry it easily and it's an economically sound lesson but Stephen ads that economic growth can take a long time and a lot of work whereas theft and conquest or always tempting because they're easier you just take. Take it and so there's something kind of sad about the fact that he had wrote all this back in the eighth century. BC. Because conquest imperialism seizing unearned wealth. These were still the norm until at least a couple of hundred years ago and they are still with us now in some places, Oh yeah has the odds economic analysis with all its references to the muses and the Gods was you know it was primitive because he was a man of his time but in understanding the importance of stability and peace for economic prosperity in a lot of ways I, think he was ahead of our time. You know his decisions final, and they ask him to make a decision. Well Zeus isn't always as stupid as he can be. In some of our previous other stories of you go back and listen to the episode, but and this one he actually uses head, and he's like I'm staying out of this. I'm not getting hot water by picking the wrong person in suffering the wrath of the other two, so I'm just going to pass this off. So the person who decides to pass it off to is Paris prince of troy son of premium. And the reason Zeus picks Peres is because he was a fair judge contest between one of his own bulls and aries posing as a bowl. and He. had. Integrity and he picked the areas bowl because it was actually better than his so zeus is like all right..

"The creature was typhon. The dragons on his arms hissed and spit a fiery venom. The snake scales glinted illuminated by the burning fire in his eyes. The Earth shook as he stepped forward. The Olympia backed away in fright. They were powerful beings but in the face of pure evil they felt very small. All of them that is except for Zeus recovered from his initial shock. Zoo strode forward. A lightning bolt clutched in his hand. He addressed the towering demon in a confident voice. I do not know who you are but I am. Zeus King of the Gods and you will return to the hellish layer. You crawled out of typhon roared with laughter as he said but it is hell itself. I came from without warning. A torrent of hot flames viewed from typhoons is all the Olympians but Zeus scattered. They took to the skies as birds or burrowed into the ground as rodents or scampered off through the gardens as wildcats. Typhon watched them go. He longed to rip them limb from limb to taste their celestial blood on his tong but as he faced Zeus. His mother's need for revenge echoed in his ears. Power surged through him and he grew even taller. His head almost touched the stars zoo sent a bolt of lightning into typhoons chest but he absorbed the blow easily. Zeus bellowed anger and grew in size to match typhoons height. His hands stretched out wide ready to gather the elements to his fingertips but typhon speed was as great as his size. Snakes shot out of his thighs to sink their teeth into the back of Zeus is legs. The king of the Gods roared in agony as the snakes retracted pulling with them. The tendons of his muscles Zeus Shrunk in stature and crumpled to the ground more snakes shot out and bid into his hands their fangs ripped the tendons from his hands as well then slithered back to Nestle in the mammoth legs of their master. If typhon could smile he would have for the masterful. God that had destroyed his half siblings. The titans was now nothing. But a pitiful trembling weakling and he typhon now had free reign he would kill Zeus and then he would watch the world burn. Suddenly Hermes swooped from the sky to grab Zeus by the hair. Typhoon roared and unleashed a ball of fire at the Messenger. God but Hermes dodged and rose higher until he and Zeus were beyond the monsters. Reach typhoons is burned with fury at watched his victim disappear then. He looked down at Zeus tendons shimmering in his hand if Zeus wanted his tendons back he would have to enter his domain to retrieve them. The beasts within typhoons hair growled their thirst for blood had not yet been quenched. Typhon felt rage boiling up within him. He too had a need. That had not yet been satisfied. The Need to destroy on his way back to the underworld typhon satisfied his urges by wreaking havoc. His eyes burned landscapes. His dragon arms bat deadly venom onto the backs of animals and is massive feet flattened pitiful humans as they ran he had been built for revenge. His entire body trembled with his need to rip the world apart. Geo waited for her son in the vast hall of the underworld. She hoped he would bring news. That Zeus was destroyed. It would mean typhon was now the ruler of the cosmos. The thought gave her pause. The titans had been effective brutal but wise and she was uncertain that typhon cared for anything. More than chaos. She shook the thought off. She would simply have to give him more guidance but as she waited she felt a pain. In her head a chill ran down her spine. Something was not right with the earth. Her earth she closed her eyes and was able to see the world in its villages. Crumbling scorched land and sky so black that one could not see the stars. Jia was horrified..

"Iheartradio has networks. Hey to blow your mind. My name is Robert Lamb. And I'm Joe McCormick. Today we are going to be discussing the Sacred Mountain. Of course there's not just one Sacred Mountain. There are many sacred mountains in fact You know you're probably close to one right now because they're all over the world. We discussed this a little bit in a recent episode about pressure where we were talking about How how the atmosphere gets thinner of course as you go higher up. In one of the things we started talking about was whether you know whether that might have anything to do with the prevalence of sacred or holy mountains in religious and cultural beliefs all around the world because once you start looking for them they're everywhere in every continent. I guess. Maybe not so much Antarctica but every other continent you know. They're they're mountain top monasteries. There are mountains that are believed to be homes of the Gods. There are mountains that are places of worship mountains that are places of sacrifice mountains that are believed to be forbidden or you know otherwise magically Barred Yeah and they. They really are in in just about every culture so what we wanted to do in this pair of episodes For stuff to blow your mind is to really get into the idea of the Sacred Mountain so this first episode is really going to be more about first of all. Why do we have these different feelings about mountains? Why do mountains invoke these different ideas and feelings in the human mind and then we're going to run through some notable examples of sacred mountains? I have to drill drive home that this will not be an exhaustive mention of every sacred mountain tradition. I'm sure you're GONNA leave off some very good ones. Some very notable cultural examples. We can't cover them all They'll try and cover enough of them to give you a nice grounding and then of course if you have a favorite sacred mountains that you visited or just read about You can write into us. And perhaps we'll share those future Listener Mail episode in that second episode. They were going to do about. Sacred Mountains is going to get more into the psychology and the neuroscience and how and to what extent high altitude conditions could contribute to this interpretation of the sacred and the holy On Mountain tops of mountains. That's right and the we are going to look all over the world and various places today. I think one place I wanted to start with is the mountain. You might be less familiar with in Greek religion now because you're probably instantly thinking will Mount Olympus. That's where the gods are or home of the Gods. That's where their plot all of their new theories INS. But what about mount like? Hey on home of the Holy. Wear wool for the not. So the unholy where Wolfe The sanctuary of Zeus the birthplace of Zeus and the altar of blood sacrifice. Yeah it invokes a number of different ideas. We're going to be discussing here so we wanted to read just a little bit from. Saint Louis is a historian he wrote description of Greece in this is From the Second Century Ce in this section eight. This is another one of those old tax you can find info translated online The word is going to read a couple of paragraphs from it. Okay on the highest point of the mountain is a mound of earth forming an altar of Zeus. Like Hey us. And from it of the Peloponnesus can be seen before the altar on the east stand two pillars on which there were of old Gilded Eagles on this altar. They sacrifice in secret to like he and Zeus. I was reluctant to pry into the details of the sacrifice. Let them be as they are and were from the beginning. On each side of the mountain there is a sanctuary of Apollo surnamed par Hacien- they also give him the name Pit Theun. They hold every year a festival in honor of God and sacrifice in the marketplace of bore to Apollo Helper and after the sacrifice here they at once carry the victim to the sanctuary of her Hacienda Paulo in procession to the music of the flute. Cutting out the thigh-bones they burn them and also consume the meat of the victim on the spot. So here we get a description of like sacrifices of a boar though. There have been rumors for a long time. That human sacrifice was something that happened. You know that you would kill humans and offer them up to like he and Zeus on Mount Lake Aus so we should at least situate this The mentioned that you could see the whole Peloponnese but mountlake aon now. It is a mountain in the region of Arcadia which is long believed to be sort of the symbol or Paragon of beautiful unspoiled wilderness. And that's down in the Peloponnese and Zeus like Aus is essentially Wolf. Zeus is yeah. It's like his his Wolf Power Ranger form all everything you expect from From Zeus King of the gods except also with with Lupine properties and there are a lot of stories about Sort of the history of this mountain and the name like mountlake. Hey on in some telling is said to be the birthplace or the home of Zeus. But also it's named for a king like hey on of Arcadia who was of course in some myths foolish enough to mess with the Gods of the Greek Pantheon. Domestic always a mistake. Yeah so according to odds telling in the metamorphosis the king tried to trick Zeus into eating human flesh and Zeus retaliated by turning him into a wolf for turning him into a Werewolf. And I wanna read. This part of the poem has told in of its metamorphosis has translated by Garth Dryden okay. Let's divide it Robert. You you do this for section here this dire experiment. He chose to prove if I were mortal or undoubted jove but first he had resolved to taste my power not long before but in a luckless our some leggate sent from the Malaysian state. Were on a peaceful errand. Come to treat of these. He murders one he boils the flash and lays the mangled morsels in a dish. Some part he roasted than serves it up so dressed and bids knee welcome to this humane. Feast okay so the King Capture. Some dudes burns them and then offers them up to Zeus like here. Try IT I presuming I think to trick Zeus and eating human flesh. Zeus continues moved with disdain. The table I are turned and with the avenging flames. The palace burned the tyrant a fright for shelter gains the neighbouring fields and scours along the planes howling he fled and fain he would have spoke but human voice his brutal tongue forsook about his lips. The gathered foam. He turns and Breathing Slaughters still with rage. He Burns but on the bleeding flock. His fury turns his mantle. Now his hide with rugged hairs cleaves to his back a famished face he bears his arms. Descend his shoulder. Slink away to multiply his legs for chase of pray. He grows a wolf. His Holiness remains in the same rage in other members rains his is still sparkle in a narrower space his jaws retain the grin and violence of his face and according to some. I remember correctly. This is considered kind of the birth of the Werewolf. Oh yeah this is This is one of the earliest accounts. You'll find someone turning into a lupine form. I don't remember if we discussed this story in the episode. We did about the first monster about like the I where what was the origin of the beliefs in beings. Embodying both human and animal forms mixed together. We might have mentioned this. But of course apart from this myth which I don't think this is a historical record in any case of Where we'll transformation The the despite the story of King like a on an all this the mountain like an was in you know without a doubt a holy site in some versions of Greek religion since it was sort of the home birthplace of Zeus and it was also a place where blood sacrifices and burnt offerings Zeus. Were brought and it's long been known that animals were sacrificed and burned Zeus here But recently there's been some. There's been some chilling discoveries. Archaeologists at the sanctuary of Zeus have been excavating a giant ancient mound of ash about one hundred feet or about thirty meters wide. And that was the site of these animal sacrifices mostly sheep and goats beginning around the sixteenth century. Bc. So going way back in two thousand sixteen. It was announced that they had found human remains hearing the they found the skeleton of adolescent male From what appears to be. I think it's not positive but it really looks like this was a human sacrifice from around the eleventh century BC And of course this wouldn't be the only case where we know of human sacrifice likely taking place Up on a mountain like I. I think about the You know going to the to South America the children of our Jaka or I'd end in the late nineties at some point. They discovered three. Inca child mummies there. That were up on. The summit of the mountain is not known for sure what that is but it appears to be a form of human sacrifice that was taking showing the religious significance of the mountain. There too interesting so I think this is a great example to start with here. it embodies a number of different things here pilgrimage Just view mentioning. Just how much you can see from up there and the idea that this puts you a place to put you in in closer contact with the divine with the Gods but now I'd like to talk just a little bit about the importance of geography and a naturally occurring forms as metaphors. Yeah We've talked about this on the show before but you know you can find route branch. Tree River iconography all over the place. I I think back to our episode on the Trident is well which according to some theories was originally. Based on fig-leaf ancient people turn to natural forms as a way of thinking about the world and kind of externalizing thought. And you see that in in in every human tradition so it should come as no surprise that speak to us as well after all a sacred mountain is just one part of an overall sacred geography. I think that's important to note like ancient peoples. They wouldn't have thought like this is just land over here and that's that's a river. Oh this mountain that places. Holy this the gods love the oceans the mountains the Earth itself the rivers. All of that comes into play for when you're considering a sacred view of the world or of the universe. Yes you know. I kind of think though that We might be kind of unusual as far as like people in history. Go given that most of you know most of us in the people listening to this show probably most of their exposure to religion is like to monotheism like Christianity Judaism Islam which I would say as far as religions go have unusually low investments in geography and and the land because if you go to ancient pagan religions or indigenous religions of of Europe and Africa and Asia and the Americas. You find All kinds of like stories about how the land itself was created and led by Like off the very common story. Is that the land features of the land were features of monsters that were slain by or the features of a body of a God that died long ago yeah or they have particular connections to holy sites that are geographically unique in for being unique. I mean I. I guess Christianity Islam and Judaism have geographical locations. That are wholly. But that's mainly four like what is believed to be their historical role right events that took place there structures that either were there are still there. Yeah some form or another. And that's certainly a part of it is we'll discuss but their various other ways to to look at at sacred mountains and sacred geography. And why those places have you considered sacred so just. I think one important thing to keep in mind is something I think most of us can relate to and that is just the idea of a mountain or an impressive photo of one will likely summon feelings of grandeur or intimidation adventure. Peace effort seclusion. Wonder Ore Indeed Connection to the heavens. I mean this is why you see a posters and images and paintings of mountains. I mean they are. They're beautiful to behold and we traveled to the mountains and then we stand Neither atop the mountain oil certainly at a nice Vista and we take it all in and it it..

"zeus king" Discussed on Stuff To Blow Your Mind

"Iheartradio has networks. Hey? To blow your mind. My name is Robert Lamb and I'm Joe, McCormick today. We are going to be discussing the Sacred Mountain. Of. Course, there's not just one sacred mountain. There are many sacred mountains in fact You know you're probably close to one right now because they're all over the world. We discussed this a little bit in a recent episode about pressure where we were talking about How how the atmosphere gets thinner of course as you go higher up in one of the things we started talking about was whether you know whether that might have anything to do. With the prevalence of sacred or holy mountains in religious and cultural beliefs all around the world. Because once you start looking for them. They're everywhere in every continent. Guess, maybe not so much Antarctica but. The continent you know they're. They're mountain top monasteries. There are mountains that are believed to be homes of the Gods there are mountains that are places of worship mountains that are places of sacrifice mountains that are believed to be forbidden, or you know otherwise magically barred. Yeah, and they. They really are in in just about every culture. So what we wanted to do in this pair of episodes, for stuff to blow. Your mind is to really get into the idea of the sacred mountain so this. This first episode is really going to be more about first of all. Why do we have these different feelings about mountains? Why do mountains invoke these different ideas and feelings the human mind, and then we're going to run through some notable examples of sacred mountains. I have to drill drive home that this will not be an exhaustive mention of every sacred mountain tradition. I'm sure we'RE GONNA. Leave off some very good ones, some very notable cultural examples. We just can't cover them all the try and cover. Enough of them to give you a nice grounding, and then of course, if you have a favorite sacred mountains that you visited or just read about you can write into us, and perhaps we'll share those future listener mail episode. In that second episode they were going to do about. Sacred Mountains is going to get more into the psychology and the neuroscience, and how and to what extent high altitude Conditions could contribute to this interpretation of the sacred and the Holy on mountain tops of mountains. That's right, and the we are going to look all over the world and various places today I think one place I wanted to start. With is the mountain. You might be less familiar with in Greek religion. No, yeah, because you're probably instantly thinking will Mount Olympus that's where the gods are or home of the Gods. That's where they're plot. All of their new theories, INS. Glad to see 'em making some kind of an impression today. We're going to discuss the battle of Olympia. Let's begin by taking out our history books and turning to page one fifty one. Can I please get a volunteer to read the overview? Okay Fine Mr Tremont. You may proceed overview for the battle of Olympia. The Battle of Olympia occurred in the year. Thirty nine seventy five. It was the final battle of the clash of empires between the Forces of the fantasia Republic under the leadership of their Olympia. Nhs and the Shiba Union they Sheba Union declared war ostensibly to reclaim land of their forefathers in Cathedra occupied for the fantasia republic. The battle involves two hundred and fifty thousand troops. In one of the largest wars of the age of Marvel's Zeus King of the Olympia NHS and Apollo faced. She'd been general rock six while Haiti's defended the planes outside the city and Go ahead say it. General Emmett led most of the troops unleash shores of the earliest peninsula. Right I was there. I know some of you dream of being immortal. I'm here to tell you is not a gift when you have the ability to remember faces of a rebirth. You've lost every law if you've taken every low that's gone away but that isn't a gift. It's a curse. I defended Olympia. Not Because fantasia was at war with Sheba but because that's where my family was. I won't lie to you. Sheba's history of being descended from the Kunti and empire and the titans was a major deciding factor. I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAD TROOPS INTO BATTLE. In fact looking back the whole affair are you. I wish I didn't. We can't talk about Chiba without first talking about. Peut when empire was descended from the other of course know who can fill the class in on ancient poon. Okay gang with disgust. This was an ancient civilization of Cafaro concentrated along the lower reaches of Mbatha cove. Herpes were first to lead paint. With the unification of SOBEK CADMUS was the most powerful empire in Fabella until its collapse which gave rise to the Shiba Union starts writing. This is going to be on. The test reached the pinnacle of its power during the age of the dynasties where it acted as the main armed forces for the tightened rise to power. The success of ancient Putin civilization came directly from advanced knowledge of agriculture and military techniques with resources to spare mineral exploitation of the Valley and surrounding Woodland Regions Commenced Peut. How the early development of an independent writing system the organization of collective construction and agricultural projects trade with surrounding regions and military force. No OTHER POWER COULD COMPETE WITH. Motivating and organizing. Evil is mostly point of view. It's only a small selection that I would consider threatening enough that they should be removed from society by any means necessary. I wanted to be doing my job as a teacher. If I didn't teach you that lesson and I have trouble remembering it as well. It's not rural to cast our enemies as villains. They do the same to us now. Did the Kunti Empire do things? I didn't agree with absolutely. We can't ignore the fact that the ancient punt is responsible for several major innovations in history to close ourselves off to the truth because of biased. Opinions isn't fair to you guys and it sure as hell ain't right that the tuned for shift the titans. Yes they did. And that would be a significant mark in the con- column. The titans used magic right. Actually the first group of Titans I faced off against in the people's rebellion and the clash of dawn's didn't own practice. Magic put up. I thought Titan Meant Evil Wizards. It does or more accurately wizards who use her magic for devious methods. Remember what I said about the word. Egwu getting back to your question. Though the word Titan don't become exclusively attached to magic users until about a century after the first generation of Titan were removed from power by the Olympians. Now we're on the subject. Let's shift Dr Discussion to the Olympia Ins. They were of course. The defenders of fantasia during the battle and Olympia was their capital in the republic. The Olympia INS were worshiped as but they were all really just powerful sorcerers. In a time. When most people didn't know magic they gained their name from vanquishing the titans on the summit of Mount Olympus on earth multi friend says he went to Earth once. I hear two tickets. They're rare expensive. His family must be loaded. If God gave you the impression I wanted to hear about your friend that must have been an accident and it's true that everyone there is human people yes. Have you ever been there many times? Look this isn't a cloth on a. We'll have more time to discuss it later. Let's get back on rock. History likes to paint the Olympians as heroes but they were really nothing more than ancient celebrities. Zeus was the worst offender of all. Admit that he had some small moments of heroism but he had no place taking command of Olympias troops. The units under his command fought poorly with low discipline. Non-existent tactical coordination an amateurish lack of leadership. The camps were overrun with a sexually transmitted diseases like herpes syphilis. Because prostitutes would literally be shipped to lay with the troops sous-sol sexism morale booster e. You've probably shouldn't have said that. Sounds like a party movie on the WHO clash of Empires of fair started win? Sobek tie Boris of the sheep. Union requested that artifacts from punt be turned over to their government. They didn't want to land at all. Zeus not only refused to send the artifacts but sent his reply with a worthless clay part full of his piss. Shouldn't have said that. I thought this dude sound so hard core who was a bully while in power his actions were reprehensible and led to thousands of innocent deaths not is not a legacy to aspire to Mr Clarkston that goes for all of you as well. Seuss's despicable behavior led directly to the invasion of Lebanon Empire to take back their land by fourth. I took up and command to protect my family. If all the sheep wanted was to give Zeus the speaking he deserved I would have led them straight to his bedroom.

"He had been watching her. The man said to I. Oh my would a beautiful maiden you are such beauty is worthy of. I suspect you make your husband very happy. I'll blushed but shook her head replying that she was not married. The man's eyes grew lustful. A devilish smile crosses his face. Well then fair maiden might I suggest you rest in the woods here come in line next to me under the trees and away from the Sun I will protect you from the boars and beasts running wild in the fields. I promise you will be safe for you or in the presence. The God who can wield lightning from above. I O now realized that this was Zeus King of the Gods. She could see the wanton. Look Zeus as I and knew his true desires. I O kindly thanked Zeus but declined. She turned and began to walk away back to her father's house. As I o continued on clouds began to form and fog blanketed. The open fields panic swelled inside her. She began to run but the fog grew thicker. Soon I O was unable to see her own feet. Suddenly she ran into something hard and fell to the ground. Her eyes moved up the mass that had stopped her and she saw to her horror that she had run directly into Zeus. Zeus smiled as he towered over her. There was no escape for I o now some time later. I O laid on the grass in shame. She gazed upon the satisfieds. Zeus clearly pleased with himself that he got what he wanted. All I o wanted was to get back home to her father to be as far away from here as possible. Suddenly Zeus is smug smile disappeared and transformed into fear. I O was confused. Zeus rambled to himself. Hera knows something is wrong. She must not discover what I have done. She must not find this woman. Perhaps I'll put her in a cave or send her to a remote island no disguise. Zeus turned toward I. Oh and then. With a snap of his fingers the bones in her body began to change. Her feet contorted and her face grew long. She had no idea what was happening and then she saw something coming from the heavens. It floated down towards her and Zeus. As the object got closer. She realized what it was. Hera Queen of the Gods. Hera coyly looked at Zeus. And said where have you been husband? Why was there a storm over our goalies? No sooner had Hera finished asking this question. Then she looked toward ISO and paused. I O watched as the suspicious. Look in Harrah's. I turned to one of reverence. Hera asked Zeus. Where did this cow come from husband? I O was confused. She looked around. No cows incite. She wondered what Hera meant. Suddenly I o fell to tug at her neck and began walking forward. Hera was leading her away from Zeus. The fear inside I o went wild but she was still too afraid to speak in front of the Gods. Hera didn't lead I. Oh very far. She wondered if she was going to be killed. Because of Zuse's actions then she heard Hera Yell Name Argus Panov OPTUS. I O thought it was a strange sounding. Name even more strange. When Hera yelled at again the earth began to tremble. Small rocks shook wildly on the ground. Suddenly a massive shadow loomed over her as I o turned. Her eyes widened in terror before her was a giant a giant whose body was covered in one hundred blinking is iot screamed but all that came out was a low bellowing sound. SEE CAPITAL ONE DOT COM for details ladies and gentlemen a passage. From God's poem works in days formerly the tribes of men on earth lived remote from ills without harsh toils and the grievous sicknesses insist that are deadly to me. Yeah one of the stories that Halcion tells in works and days is about why hard work is needed. If men want to build up their wealth yes he was referring just to men and not a super progressive eight century so give him a pass but there was a former time according to this mythology when food and other things were abundant and the earth provided all that men could want but then prometheus a titan tricked Zeus King of the Gods and stole the use of fire from the gods so that men could use it. Zeus rights had responded angrily by sending to Earth Earth a terrible affliction to set against the fire. Shall you've been affliction which will all delight as they embrace their own own. Misfortune and his fortune was a woman. That's how I said he wasn't a super woke writer specifically a woman named Pandora who's jar or box unleashed terrible things upon all mortals. She opened it. One of those hardships. Was that for people to get what they wanted. They would have to work for it. Food for instance. Seattle rights was now concealed by the Gods so people would have to toil in the fields. If they wanted something to eat in other words the gods had introduced scarcity to the world and scarcity is the first team we're going to discuss from the poem. Stephen Magma EH author of Economics Book says that the Economics Definition of scarcity though is different from the way that normal people use it when they mean a shortage of something that might run out when the economist talks about scarcity. What he's really talking about is is available? Resources are limited relative to humid watts. Scarcity is economics is one. Oh one the idea that the world has finite resources so we have to make choices about how to use those resources like land is a resource so if you use land to ride forces or I don't know throw keg parties whatever your also choosing not to use as farmland and crops won't grow in here has yet is using the concept of scarcity versity unleashed by Pandora's jar to lecture. His brother Percy's on why hardwork is a moral virtue after Percy's had blown his half of the family money and perseus squandered. A whole bunch of that now has hit saying you gotta work. Not only that you should have been working before. We don't look kindly as a society. Heidi on people who just want to consume. You need to earn your way. He's arguing and if you don't you're not going to be well. Viewed by the people around you which brings us to the second economic theme and has the odds poem shame namely the role of shame in a market economy. Stevens says this kind of societal disapproval can help economy work better. If it creates social norms of fairness and trust and Pepsi writes about the importance of property rights the idea that if if you earn something yourself you get to keep it for yourself or you know you can also voluntarily trade it for something else. Without property rights. People might not work as hard because then the stuff they make could be taken from them. This was an early iteration of the idea that the law and also a sense of shame can reinforce good social norms and respect respect for property rights and this is good for a whole economy. That's true of countries to this very day. Stevens says Percy's has his brother is trying to cheat Hess. You've you've his own share of the inheritance right. He's not respecting Hess. She's property rights and so there's that sort of personal lesson to tell with the much broader more general implications which brings us to the third big economic theme in works in days the role of envy in the economy. Has He writes that when you look at the wealth of others and see that they have worked hard for that wealth then it might lead you to work hard to attain that same wealth has he had refers to this form of envy as strife and says it is good for mortals. But Stephen says economists know that strife by different name when he uses the word strife the economist reads the word competition. And there's good competition and there's destructive competition and what he's emphasizing here of course is is the good competition right so for Halcion the Vatian to work hard or at least part of it is. It's a keeping up with the Joneses effect right that I want half what that person has and so I'm going to work hard so I can be like her for keeping up with like. I Dunno Demosthenes Affect Jones of back. Then uh-huh Percy's was envious of Hessy's wealth and Hessy was trying to convince Percy's of a better alternative a more ethical alternative to satisfying satisfying his envy then to seize se. It's half of the wealth work hard build the wealth yourself and the Gods will bless you and this is an underlying theme in works and days as the peaceful competition is better than destructive seizing or conquest. This can apply to countries as much as it applies to feuding brothers from ancient. Greece has said writes quote vote. Violence is bad for a lowly man. Not even a man of worth can carry it easily. And it's an economically sound lesson but Stephen ads that economic growth. It can take a long time and a lot of work whereas theft and conquest or always tempting. 'cause they're easier you just take somebody take it and so there's something kind of sad about the fact that he had wrote all this back in the eighth century BC his conquest imperialism. Seizing unearned wealth. These were still the norm until at least a couple of hundred years ago and they are still with us now in some places. Oh yeah it took a very long time to learn that lesson And One can question if it's ever really really been fully learned or if it's just circumstances have you know sort of tamp down. The urge for conquest or modern weaponry has done so halcion. Sei economic analysis with all its references to the muses and the Gods was you know it was primitive because he was manifest time but in understanding the importance of stability ability and peace for economic prosperity. A lot of ways I think he was ahead of our time. This episode of the indicator was produced by Darius Rafi on our editor is Paddy Hirsch. which is kicking off in thirteen days Leon two weeks from yesterday the twelve I think is the start date good Jeff Probst talking about it and you know we talked yesterday you and I think off air about why Cochran wasn't on this time the article that I saw was who was Jeff Probst who does Jeff Probst feel like is missing from this new all star edition and he went straight to Cochran now and then I read another article this morning with maybe you're about to quote IBM probably am right because we already talked about that I brought it up actually and he confirmed a hundred percent exactly what I said that guy wouldn't fly on today's survivor he should not flown then and that is the controversy that survivor found itself in tell the story survivor super fans have pointed out that the one particular winter missing from survivor winners at war is Richard hatch Richard hatch won the first season in the year two thousand and as this whole thing unfolded this year where there was some inappropriate touching in some just people made to feel uncomfortable on the show we were talking about Richard hatch and how this guy was not only just naked from the beginning like look and made no bones about it no matter how uncomfortable people were around him the show didn't see anything wrong while you're on an island I guess you everyone takes out their clothes when he came back for an all stars I want to say Susan also from the first season one up leaving because he like pushes junk up against her yep and she will lay next day she was made to feel uncomfortable you know who left she did right which is really not the way that should be gone down she should be able to play the game on molested so basically and I don't disagree he I should say you know here we are it's easy in on your line back to say they should have done something or whatever I get it there's a lot of us behave one way maybe you know thirty years ago that we wouldn't today right and you hear even comedian saying the material I did then I wouldn't do now even the stuff we did on the air right so there's a lot of changes have been made but in particular as survivor is trying to come off very like PC this is a gaping hole in their resume it is for having protected women's rights were well and not protected them I mean that's you know that they're so course Jeff Probst has been asked why the Richard hatch on there and he said given his history on our show it did not seem appropriate rate which is really all I think about it I use as we are in a different time and different culture back then we would never let him run a challenge naked now looking back on it it just didn't seem to fit it's not a slam against Richard hatch he's just being Richard hatch he said I didn't feel comfortable having him out on the bottom the shown representing a show that is for families and they said let's see the other going back to that survivor all star where he the junk up against her he denies it and the shows like tonight all you want we're not having you back right so it starts in two weeks and it's only gonna be the nice competitors well his tactic was to make people uncomfortable and he did and that worked for him he won one second time but he won the first time all the Osborne shows his own amputations in anti declined to add what yeah he has amputations he has some stumpy fingers from that acts the staff infection that he was hospitalized with me see exactly what it's from here because he was I believe in the hospital for staff and it had to do with his fingers you know singing nearly lost some of his fingers okay what they did was make it look I mean they can do anything they want in a print ad right the basically let's see in a new campaign for the animal rights organisation Peter he shows the bloody stumps of his fingers to decry Kel decline cal Kay and that's not real at all yeah I went out to the cloud not only of the clause getting irritated but part of the total where they grow from on as a result it can cause nerve damage infection and pain according to that's the experience is like cutting off the end of a human finger which is what Ozzie shown in the ad declawed cats have to relearn how to walk because of the impaired balance they're more likely to bite as a means of self protection because they've lost their first defense mechanism the message was personal for us who nearly lost some of his own fingers in late twenty eighteen as a result of the infection and a beating a coach who is is twisted and wrong the coach is one forty then you cut tilted her happiness you deserve to have an animal could catch a scratching post of mutilate them for life you're also you know when when you cut a cat's claws you are making them a house cat they can't go outside they have no defense right I'll boy yeah every single one of his yeah that's his claws is cut off that's fine shop the instead of declining they say you can trim their feed your cats nails by buying them scratching post they can shed the out of class sheath and stretch it's pretty gruesome sound it is just for the shop but it is still a dude with bloody stumps for fingers right but good for Ozzie for title you're trying to say in for real yeah that will that's what it sounded like there as I skimmed the story earlier I saw infections stomps what does it mean among the guy named ari Schaefer or should fear maybe our recent years should fear he's in a comic all right and people are super mad at him what did he do well he made some jokes about Kobe Bryant well not even really jobs what he did was save yeah this guy was a rapist okay well we've had you know people of texted that in as if that's an important mention after this guy's you know passing I I I guess some people felt important to say the day Kobe died this guy are you should fear tweeted a selfie video saying Kobe Bryant died twenty three years too late today he got away with rape because all the Hollywood liberals who attack comedy enjoy rooting for the Lakers more than they dislike rate big ups to the hero who forgot to gas up his chopper I hate the Lakers what a great day so our pretty vile yeah then he posted another video later saying Kobe's death was a good story because the guy got away with right any deleted it but by then the damage was done and it looks like some people started calling in death threats to the club where he was supposed to reform this was and let's see in a comedy club in New York City I'm not seen the name of it it might just be called the New York comedy club he was first performed Tuesday at nine fifteen the club's first call the cops after getting multiple phone and threats someone called threatened to shoot up the place because of comedians scheduled to perform their made a vial joke about Kobe the caller did not didn't mention are you sure fear by name but it's a secret that he didn't stir up some stuff and he was performing that night so they law enforcement sources say the shows were canceled at the club due to numerous threatening calls she fear has also been dropped by his talent agency after Instagram video WebSphere I'm what about twenty five minutes before this guy's sh set time is when all the threats came in Kobe fans will not have it there's a big Lebowski spin off called the Jesus roles we've talked about this a little bit John Turturro stars as Jesus or possibly hate to sound like animals so long since I saw that the big Lebowski that I don't really remember much of it all I'm gonna watch this will have to watch for the bus you again coming out February twenty eighth which is right around the corner on the film sees John to tour over pricing his role as the dude's bowling nemesis Hey Zeus king kana her I. and features Bobby kind of valley Audrey Tautou joining is the film's main characters they don't say anything about I don't have a full casting thing here but he's calling out a few other people that were in the other one back in June judge Richard described the film as a bit of a racy movies basically an exploration of Jesus getting out of jail self you were a big Lebowski van and there are people out there who love the big about you like the reference at all the time and I remember liking it but I yeah I couldn't quote anything from Menton but people do you know okay the dude Jessica Simpson has a book coming out or maybe it came out this past Tuesday and if people are going through I thought you'd like this nugget okay she denies rumors that you hooked up with Johnny Knoxville while married to Nicole Shea I was dying to know if she would address the stories that came out about dukes of Hazzard and that's it and the who's the other guy I dude she is it Sean financing Preston Scott or something like that John living styles he's the guy who's stickler John is that the other guy in the anyway there's a lot of rumors about that to go on well she does continue to deny it okay Hey she wanted him bad he says else like Johnny and I were prison pen pals to people who wanted so much to be with each other but were kept apart by their respective spouses what is your new it's called open book dear your February fourth okay definitely I agree Simpson will Scott son William guy since then in Knoxville were rumored to have had a fling in oh five right as her marriage to Nicolas she was falling apart there was something neck one and for me that I no longer had an emptiness I kind of fell she admits she began flirting with him Johnny uhhuh uhhuh I Johnny for those of you who aren't fans I understand why and that's fine but to me I find that's my kind of guy right there I like him a lot he's funny and he's injured.

"This is the story of Echo and Narcissus assists and unlike a lot of famous Greek myths. It's important to understand that this is not a hero story and it's not a love story well not not really anyway but it is one of the most well known stories in all of Greek mythology in English. We say Narcissus but the proper Greek pronunciation creation is actually marcus right. That brings up a good point before we start. Let's talk about words. A word is a single distinct meaningful meaningful element of speech or writing us to form a sentence. Etymology is the study of the history of words. Exactly a lot of the words we use in the English language originally came from ancient Greek or Latin. For example Echo in modern times in echo is a sound that seems to be repeated heated because the sound waves are reflected back sound waves like your voice can actually bounce off smooth hard objects in the same way. A ball bounces. This is off the ground many times it bounces right back at the center. Making it sound like someone is repeating. What was said exactly and one of the things will learn and from? This story is how the Word Echo came to be. So let's start there. ATCO was a wood nymph. She was kind and loving and she had a beautiful voice. They said she loved to sing so she was basically the classic cartoon Princess version of a wooden singing in the forest laughing. Whether animal friends you get the picture now the Greeks believed if that nymphs were mystical female beings lived in and around nature forests mountains rivers meadows. Wherever since echo was a wood nymph? She lived in the forest with her sisters and she enjoyed talking with the animals and playing among the trees. And even though many guys lighter she wasn't really interested in romance what's she just loved the forest seriously. She was like a character straight out of a movie her kind heart and love. The Woods made her a favourite of Artemis the goddess of the hunt Endon plants and animals. But she was also a favourite of Zeus King of Olympus and that's what got her into trouble even though he was married to Hera. Zeus News had is for other women. Lots of other women. He was a bit of A. How do I put this lady's man ladies man also known has a Libertine Casanova? philanderer player Flirt Rake Cinderella. Let's go with flirt. Yeah flirt he liked to sneak out of Olympus and come down to Earth to chat with pretty girls especially the wood nymphs. They would smile at him and hang on his every word as he bragged about his latest victory curling thunderbolts out to impress the crowd he was the king of the Gods after all and he was charming and he had a nice beard. And that helped. But as you can imagine Agean Zeus. His wife Hera was about all that as soon as she found out. Zeus was missing. She would fly down from Olympus and begins scouring the woods for for her husband. Zeus usually made a quick escape before Haras found him but on one particular day. Harrow was too quick. She nearly caught him thinking thinking quickly. Echoes stepped into help. She never really flirted with zoos herself but she didn't want anything bad to happen to her sisters so she distracted Hera because 'cause although Harrow was the goddess of women and marriage she was mostly known for the horrible punishments used on people who displeased her. Hello my queen. My you look beautiful for today. Love the hair is that a new crown. Echo was very charming and sweet as you know so it worked and Zeus made his getaway but unfortunately Zeus was always willing to push his luck. Figured if it worked once again so he instructed echo to keep an eye out for Hera and to distract her every time he visited the woods. Echo didn't like this but she also didn't want to disobey God so she reluctantly did as she was asked asked. Sometimes it was a compliment. Nice Gal sometimes. It was a good story. I heard Hermes stolen entire herd of cattle. Sometimes it was a question and do you like this flower crown. I made to be honest but every time Hera appeared in the woods looking for Zeus Echo found a way to keep her busy long enough for Zeus. To slip away. You use seventy two different muscles every time you talk. Your tongue alone contains eight muscles. Eventually Eric caught caught on and she punished echo with a terrible curse. From that point forward at goes beautiful voice would be almost entirely silenced. She would still still be able to talk but only to repeat the last few words anyone said to her that is sad but echoes. This can be helpful. For example echo-location also called bio sonar is used by several species like bats and dolphins these creatures amid calls out to the Environment and listen to the echoes that returned from various objects near them they use these echoes to locate and identify objects. Scientists have also used sound waves to control a worms brain. Thanks Bud neat. NEAT is an adjective meaning arranged in an orderly. The order tidy way. You're right but we're getting off topic here. We still have a lot more story. To tell 'em we're not done with echo yet echo yet see what I did there goodwin now. Let's meet Narcissus. He's the other half of this story and well just ridiculously good looking I. I'm talking in Chris Hemsworth on a good day handsome. Narcissus was the son of a nymph namely riot and the river. God kisses so we had that going right off the bat and he was so attractive even as a baby in fact he was so extraordinarily beautiful that his parents were actually worried about how this might affect their son. So my reopen confesses paid a visit to the famous seer tyree CS and asked about what to do regarding their son's future. In Greek Mythology Theresa was a blind prophet of Apollo in Thebes famous for soothsaying or being able to see the future. He is a character. Victor in several well-known legends and was both a man and a woman at different times in his life. Theresa's told them the boy would grow old only if quote. He didn't get to know himself. His parents weren't exactly sure what that meant. A lot of the oracles back then were famously. Vague but vague is an adjective of meaning of uncertain indefinite or unclear character or meaning. Thank you Oracle for clarifying vague for us. See what I did there another good one. You're on a roll today anyway. Narcissus grew into an extremely handsome young man but he never found anyone he thought was as attractive as he was so he spent and a lot of time alone and he left a lot of broken hearts in his wake. Remembering what Theresa Said told them Lereia P. has sent their son to live in the forest just as a hunter they figured if he didn't encounter as many people or shiny surfaces he would never really know how beautiful it was and he could stay out of harm's wet but they were very wrong and one day while he was out hunting in the woods. Narcissus was seen by very shy. And quiet would nip who do you think it was the nymph referenced at this point in the story is in fact echo who is mentioned previously okay. That was actually a rhetorical question. I didn't really want an answer. But you're right. It was echo and much to her surprise she took one look at Narcissus. An immediately fell deeply in love. Unfortunately Echo Echo couldn't tell narcissus she loved him she couldn't say hello and introduce yourself or make small talk because of the curse she could only repeat what others said to her so so she followed narcissists and waited for a chance to reveal herself to him but first a word from our sponsor. Perfect timing as always. Okay all right. Welcome to Mount Olympus pet center where the PODCAST greeting out inspires Zeus the hamster and is wild crew of critters to go. Years of hunting in the woods made him sensitive to these things and he could feel the is upon upon him. WHO's there he said looking around echo so desperately wanted to say hello but instead all she could say was back again where are are you demanded? Narcissus I echo said back softly come.

"So here we get a description of like sacrifices of a boar though, there have been rumors for a long time. That human sacrifice was something that happened. You know that you would kill humans and offer them up to like he and Zeus on Mountlake s so we should at least situate this. It mentioned that you could see the whole Peloponnese, but Mountlake Aon now is a it is a mountain in the region of Arcadia, which is long believed to be sort of the symbol or paragon of beautiful unspoiled wilderness. And that's down in the Peloponnese and Zeus like K ass- is essentially wolf Zeus is. Yeah, it's like his his wolf Power Ranger form. Yeah. The all everything you expect from from Zeus king of the gods except a also with with Lou. Lupine properties. And there are a lot of stories about sort of the history of this mountain and the name like Mountlake. Hey on some telling is said to be the birthplace or the home of Zeus. But also it's named for king. Like, hey on of Arcadia. Who was of course, in some myths foolish enough to mess with the gods of the Greek pantheon, domestic always mistake. Yeah. So according to odds telling in the metamorphosis, the king tried to trick Zeus into eating human flesh and Zeus retaliated by turning him into a wolf or turning him into aware wolf. And I wanna read this part of the poem as told in Ovid's metamorphosis as translated by Garth Dryden. Okay. Let's divide it Robert you you do this first section here. This dire experiment. He chose to prove if I were mortal or undoubted Jove, but first he had resolved to taste my power nod long before but in a luckless, our some Leggate sent from the Malaysian state. We're on a peaceful errand come to treat of these. He murders. One he boils the flesh and lays the mangled morsels in a dish, some part, he roasts then serves it up so dressed and bids me, welcome to this humane feast. Okay. So the king capture some dudes burns them, and then offers them up to Zeus like here. Try it. I presuming I think to trick Zeus into eating this human flesh Zeus continues moved with disdain the table. I are turned and with the avenging flames the palace burned the tyrant in a fright for shelter gains. The neighbouring feels and scours along the planes howling. He fled and Fain. He would have spoke, but human voice, his brutal tongue. Forsook about his lips. The gathered foam, he turns and breathing slaughters still with rage. He burns. But on the bleeding flock..

"And in the book hob struck out in the big game and discovered his grisly past exposed in the papers alongside allegations. He threw the big game and the novel ends with ROY crying, bitter tears after paper boy in true, ROY which is clear show shoeless. Joe Jackson, right rip off thing. And it's agreed tragedy which I didn't fully realize 'til I did the research. I know this is in your real house. They mentioned Homer in the book. I mean in the movie have you ever read Homer? So basically, it's ROY Hobbs is a deceased. Max mercy is the Vulcan God of fire who could make or break you, right? Oh, always seen in rhetoric brand clothing, which I thought was interesting. I never noticed. This pop Fisher Zeus king of God's uniform number one. The lightning bolt in the wonderboy. Batters symbols. This is I'm marches. Yeah. The judge is Hades. God of the world owes in the dark memo siren there. She is a scene of calypso had an affair of the deceased distracted him from returning home. Gus sands is the cyclops he is a one strange. I I can't believe I saw this one hundred times never put this together. Such a word iris was Penelope the wife of this is registry. Life and then hubris is enemy. He wants to be the greatest to ever lived just like Ted Williams in like, Ted Williams. And and like the Greeks that was they consider that to be one of the fatal fos said you buy this. You you nobody loves fantasy more than you. Oh, I mean, it's it's it's not even subtext. It's over text. Harry says, you know, like diva lift bro thing Harry. It's like do. You even read Homer, bro. Like, that's. Yeah. I mean, right. Just it's directly there. What's interesting about it? I think is that. Undeniably, you can assess it on the on the Joseph Cambell hero's journey scale. So if you read the here with thousand faces or study anything about Joseph Campbell's mono myth analysis, it fits pretty snugly through the course of those steps the redemption ark, everything like that right down to having you know, a silver bullet. What is the Silverwood we associated silver bullet with slaying a mythic creature right of real bullet won't do the interesting thing. I think is that you can do the Homer Odysseus thing or you can go are three and legend and it fits just as well. So that's really fun. A story where you can apply it in both ways to different hero's journey or mythological elements. So you have the name ROY. What is ROY mean? It means king. What did he what does wonderboy wonderboy is Excalibur? I must name my son, ROY, by the way, the ski should have a great name. Great name, the name, your son, ROY Rubin. Now, you're now you're mother's going to call you. I listened to the naturally now you say you're going to have Greeley on the podcast with Bill. Maternity leave tax. Thanks bill. But you have not only the clear parallel between ROY and Arthur wonderboy and Excalibur, you know, the tree felled by lightning. What are we associate lightning with Zeus? Right. The god-like figure it's all there. But then you also have the legend of the Fisher king the holy grail pursuing the holy grail. Yes, sir. Percival the knights of the round table will allot of the baseball teams in the story are actual baseball teams right with the call the near and then we have the night fictional deep..

"Other males making men more sensitive to potential turf threats. And the last one I want to share with you in the brain here is the amid della. This is the alarm system for threats. Fear and danger. It drives emotional impulses. It gets fired up to fight by testosterone vassal, press in and cortisol, and his calm by oxytocin. This area is larger in men than in women. I can go on and on. There's nine or ten different areas of the brain that she's highlighted. Those were four. Now, let's talk about the hormones because this also affects how we operate as men. Number one, and I'm just going to share with you here. Number one is testosterone and we've shared and talked about testosterone in the past. What she says here, Zeus king of the male hormones. He is dominant aggressive and all powerful focused and goal oriented. He fervently builds all that is male, including the compulsion to outrank other males in the pecking order. He drives the masculine sweat glands to produce the come hither smell of manhood. He activates the sex aggression circuits, and he single minded in his dogged pursuit of his desired mate prized for his competence and bravery. He can be a convincing seducer, but when he's irritable, he can be the grouchy est of bears vassal presen-. She says here, the white Knight vassal press in is the hormone of gallantry monogamy aggressively, protecting and defending turf mate. And children along with testosterone. He runs the male brain circuits in enhances masculinity. Now, there's other hormones, of course, including cortisol, dopamine, even estrogen. But these are primarily the male and masculine hormones. I want you to understand that because these are scientific terms. This is backed by science. This is not my opinion. This is not something as somebody told me that I've just passionate about this is verifiable, scientific data proven to describe what it means to be masculine. So again, we don't just get to redefine it. It's proven, it's not controversial. Now, again, all of these characteristics are important in men because if we're faced with, for example, a natural disaster or a war or a potential threat, we want to exhibit these masculine characteristics in order to ward off those threats in order to keep people protected in. Order to keep ourselves safe. I don't understand why there is this complete dismissal. Now if you're hearing this and you're a man and you feel like that doesn't describe you, that's okay. But that doesn't mean that masculinity is something else. It means that maybe you're not as masculine as the next guy. I think of our warriors for example. Obviously, these are very masculine men who probably have higher levels of testosterone and vassal presen- Vetter causing them to behave that way. Now, just because you don't have these higher levels or aren't as quote unquote masculine does not make you less of a man. Because as I said earlier, there's a difference between masculinity and manliness. Masculinity is the physiology of our brains and our bodies. It's also the hormones, the chemicals that are going through our bodies in order to create the behaviors that we generally exhibit more of than our. Female counterparts, but that doesn't mean that you can't be a man because manliness is about harnessing the tools that we have the physiology, the brain makeup, and the chemicals, the hormones going through our bodies in order to produce the outcomes that were after this is manliness and what's interesting in studying and doing some research in this as we get older and as we become men. For example, our testosterone levels naturally decrease in other hormones takeover so that we can be better caretakers or providers for our families and our loved ones. So again, this is this is not up for debate. This is not subject to interpretation. It simply means that masculinity is the hard wiring in the physiology of who we are and I'll tell you what this is important. I know men who are more masculine. I know men who are more feminine, but that doesn't make them any less manly as long as a man. Is out there doing what he needs to do in the way he needs to do it and feels he needs to do it, and he's protecting, he's providing and he's presiding over himself, his family, his business, his community, and the people that he has an obligation responsibility for. I believe he is acting in a manly manner. Sometimes that's going to require a healthy dose of masculinity and other times it's going to require a healthy dose of femininity..
