"A lot of this thing's going to be luck on while you. Could you imagine hearing that. Fuck I've worked thirty years. Trying to? Developing credibility, and so that's the. That's the deal they work it. You know crossing their fingers steep. Every night, we got a great goalie. We. We've found him. He's fantastic, but you still at the start of each game. We'll hope he's not flat tonight. We need some luck right all the time Stevie here that. The hit to post hit. Stood on his head debate. You know it's like what a fucking world to live in where the people there's so much pressure on to perform, and then in the end it's fucking thirty percent lucky. You can't win. Yeah, you know. There's no doubt and it. Certainly that applies to the scouting thing. There's a guy in Detroit. Who famously is the their European Scout, and famously brought in a had the had the foresight this the savant wisdom to go out and get guys like Pavel Dot Souk and Henry Zetter Berg and it was just you know there's two of the greatest players in Detroit Red Wings history and they were drafted so late. Legs, Ediburgh was ridiculous. He was like two hundred tenth overall back in one, thousand, nine, hundred, ninety, nine, imagine that and Hawkin Anderson Hogan Anderson whatever it is, he gets credit for that like wow, what a what a savant of scouting! That guy is, and then Pablo Dot Souk Oh. My God like he was unbelievable the year before, and they got him one hundred, seventy, first overall this can. Anderson is an absolute genius. Right? That was in the late nineties. Now the Detroit Red Wings are far and away and hoke and Anderson is still there head European Scout. This is foreign away. The worst team in all of the NHL where's token anderson been with all the gems. If he's such, a genius is definitely good. Luck going on well so hard. IS THAT JOB Steve? Okay, if you're an assistant GM and the ahead of scouting or whatever you know so difficult is that we never hear of anyone else, but that fucking guy. I've you bring them up again? That's all I've ever heard over the twenty five years of being around her or Of being involved in sport. That's rare. It is right you never. You never hear venue all this fucking scout here. Do you know any head scouts of any teams? You'd have to look it up. You know that. In most cases for sure. Yeah, that's tough that gig is. And for sure luck. Or Bad luck. You know. We only have to look out your back your back window there Steve The whole day. Thing, right? Yup Everybody received. He was going to be number. One overall for sure wasn't even in question. Nobody remembers who is drafted number. Two Alexander Day said on draft that'd be Chris pronger. There was lots of talents still Paul Korea same draft in the top five, and so yeah, everybody, though said no digs the guy. He's unbelievable. He's a can't miss prospect. There's really no such thing so so that's what you know your nail it. You know we got this guy. We've got the chance. Well. Let's let's hope and pray. He turns out. Okay. What fuck a job to live in? Was a good conversation. Indeed it was. A good NHL chat taken it old school right now. We're GONNA. Take a break back with final thoughts after these words. Without sports on TV..

"Now, the Red Wings have mostly been in the news lately for the trade moves that they're making and they're building for the future with graphics. Ken, Holland GM of the team is on the line with us right now to talk about this. I can't. How's everything going good? Thanks. All right. So there was some thought at the beginning of this year that. You know, you had made a lot of moves already getting younger draft picks. And maybe now the team was going to start building gaining momentum going forward, but these moves at at the trade deadline. Would indicate that there's still some building to go. You're still valuing draft picks at a high level. Although in fairness, the guys that you traded Gus Nyquist Nick Jensen, we're gonna be free agents. So how much of this was just about taking a position that, you know, we've the future is not now, but in in a year or two how much of it just had to do with the money that they were seeking. A lot of questions. I. We had talked contract extension with both couldn't find a solution that both sides were comfortable with. So obviously made the move to remove them. But at the same time, I think if our team our team is going to be a playoff team and a team that can contend for the Stanley Cup for the most part it has to be built the draft. And once you build the foundation, then you can start to make trades signed players by a free agency to bring the finishing touches to it. So obviously got some work to do and these trades had a number of drought will impact the team realistically probably four or five years down the road. Second round pick take take awhile probably takes the second play. It's a couple of years in junior college. And then a couple of years in the American League. So where we are trying to build for the future to events. Be a team that can contend with the Stanley Cup. Is a second round pick in hockey considered. As valuable as say a similar thing in the NFL. You'll see a lot of of guys really no name guys who end up getting traded, admittedly towards the end of their careers ended their contracts rather for second round picks, and it frustrates the fans like craziest like a second round pick third round pick. You know, that guy's a good guy. It was an all star a couple of years ago or something like that. But the thinking of the NFL is, you know, it's important to get guys young. And you get them inexpensive when they're young and you can build them up. Is it similar in the NHL? Yeah. I mean, we're drafting eighteen year old on the NFL. They're drafting twenty one twenty three year old. So there's more speculation the younger the player is the more. There's more speculation. There is you know, they think that you know, Zetter Berg was sixth or seventh round pick six or seven strong pick him on RT. The second round draft pick Peron who's twenty one years of age. On the verge crack in our team on a regular basis. We probably hit in the nineteen. He was a second round draft pick. So. I think that what I what you put you need to do is you need to have lots of the more. You can have the higher. The odds are that you're going to drop players that can really impact your team not necessarily. Hopefully, they can play in the league, but to really impact your team. And and it's gotta be it's gotta be done to the draft. And that's that's how we did it in the late eighties early nineties. That's how did in the late nineties and early two thousand and you know, how we have our doing it now. Well, you also did it in those years with foreign players that you're able to spot that other teams were not and let's face it. You did it with free agency. You know in those years you're able to trade for players and pay them money that other teams weren't willing to do. And thus the two thousand two team which you'll never be assembled again the likes of which because you know, you didn't have salary caps you were dealing with and things like that. What about the speaking of foreign players? I wanted to ask you about Phillips Edina who the number six pick in the draft last year, very high pick for the Red Wings. A lot of future hopes for him. He just started playing with the wings. At the beginning of the year. Did you think that he would be up during the season? I didn't. But I hope you would you're always looking for surprises. The reality is he's nineteen and for nineteen year old players to play the National League for the most part. They're gonna call him seen on those that can go right from the draft table onto a team. And impact the team. I'm not saying I don't want a nineteen year old prior to be on the on the perimeter of an NHL team playing down the line was under fourth line, and these eight to ten minutes, I might when there's other options, and you know, so we had an option to send the Deena the American League and feeling cutting into camp was he was either gonna force his way into work top nine forwards. It's really is. He's fighting. He's a winger sweets fighting for six physicians. He's either fighting for the three the top three lines on the left wing the right wing. He's gotta beat out. He's got to be one of our best six years and. And or or you go to the American League and your played sixteen to eighteen minutes tonight at the American League level in these just I think he's come up here. I believe he's on a seven game point streak in the American League. We're going to bring about nine NHL games. So that he can get his feet wet and know what the NHL is all about. And then finished the year in the American League. And hopefully, take care. Health Grand Rapids in the playoffs. They can go on a playoff run because think that'd be great experience for him as well as some other young players that are that are going to be there. So I think realistically my my sixth pick in the draft. You're talking Mitch to the way they really impact team. Robbie believe we believe he's gonna score goals. I believe he's gonna score twenty thirty goals in the National Hockey League. And I'm gonna give you give you that. There's four players in the league scored thirty goals a year in the NHL three consecutive years in sixteen seventeen seventeen eighteen eighteen nineteen sorta scored thirty goals in the year two year three years ago. Four players in the league one was Ovechkin Brad Marchand Tarasenko. And there was one other guy. So it's hard leaked to score thirty goals consistently. We think he can score twenty to thirty goals. But when I look at the of the of the mount says in the Larkins in the Aspen issues in the Tuesday's certainly. Those players later. So there's there's more hope and more potential than Phillips Edina can do. Those players do it. Both players are now twenty two. Twenty three twenty three twenty four. So he believe he's gonna he can he can score. And he's going to be a higher curve real realistically to go from the draft able to score twenty to twenty five goals in the NHL. In most cases, in most cases is probably two or three years after you've been draft. Hang on one second. Just one more question. They ask you take a quick traffic.

National Hockey League American League NFL Red Wings Phillips Edina National League Ken hockey Zetter Berg Gus Nyquist Holland GM Peron Larkins Grand Rapids Mitch Robbie Nick Jensen Ovechkin Brad Marchand Tarasenko

Bat tested positive for rabies at Grand Canyon

"Grand canyon. Visitors have been reporting uptick in bats along the Colorado river, and now one of those bats has tested positive for rabies. No one's known to have come in contact with the rabid bat. It was taken from phantom ranch in late August and tested rabies is preventable in humans if they seek medical treatment after being exposed to a rabid animal. It can be deadly. Otherwise, if you're visiting the Grand Canyon anytime soon don't approach or touch wildlife and report any animals that are sick or acting strangely. Health statistics show one hundred sixteen animals have tested positive for rabies around Arizona's so far this year. Most of those involved, bats, skunks and foxes.
