"You need to use promo code dynamic dinesh. I'm back and we're talking about the midterms and some results have come in in the last day or so. In fact, I mean I were talking together about results out of New York. A number of congressional races that were poised kind of on the knife's edge or were right in the middle have tipped over into the Republican column. Let's remember, by the way, we think of New York, we're like, wow, New York really? What? But New York is fairly conservative outside of New York City. So as you begin to move Long Island as you move upstate, you republicanism is not uncommon, and in some ways it's even the majority. So it's only because of the dense population of New York that New York is a safely by and large democratic state. But what you have here is races that were that had about an equal number of Republicans and Democrats. So maybe even democratic leaning falling the Republican way. Now what does this mean? Well, it basically helps us in the house. And we have to give credit to this guy Lee zeldin, Lee zeldin ran against Kathy hochul for the governor's race, and he lost, but he lost pretty narrowly. I mean, if you look at those numbers between Zelda and hulk, I mean huckel won it pretty cleanly, but it was not the normal blowout. It wasn't something where hoku got 60 and zeldon got 40. It was something where these guys were just a few points apart and what that means is that Zelda had a sort of coattail in New York. He was able to pull up some of the other Republicans. By the way, this was just a confirmation of how politics works in teams. In other words, if you do well at the top of the ballot, you often do better at the bottom of the ballot. We don't have a Hall of Fame. So how long does he need to be out of the media gym? What's the rules for baseball? You've got to be retired for 5 years. I think we should respect that. Don't you think? 5 years? 5 years. Okay, Jim agrees. Jim's a baseball, not 5 years, so chuck, you just created a new rule on the damp on Geno show. There will be media talking hand Hall of Fame 5 years. Chuck you're the winner today. All right, this is we the people 1776 from true social. I love Tuesday's show and you said you never miss a deadlift day. I don't. I'll skip chest day, back day, not deadlift day, ever. It is the king of all exercises. You're damn right it is. So what's your deadlift form of choice? Conventional or sumo. I don't sumo deadlift anymore. I used to and I hurt my back, badly. My fault, I just screwed it up. I was trying to impress a woman I was dating at the time years ago and I ruptured a disk doing it, biggest mistake of my life. I do standard conventional overhand grip. I don't do that split grip nonsense. I'm not a believer in them. And I don't use straps, I know, I know a lot of people are like, that's heresy. You're not lifting heavy and up. I had a question ironically about deadlifts on the podcast today, too, a different one. Wasted, how much do you deadlift? I only do two 25, and I do that Bulgarian workout. Ten sets of ten. I'm telling you to change your whole body. If you got to do it right, because you will get hurt if I promise you you'll get hurt if you don't do it right. If you do it right, if you do it right, it'll change your whole body. So I do conventional deadlifts, overhand grip, and then I have a life fitness kind of deadlift pole squat machine. I think it's called, I'll deadlift on that too. And I love it. It's pretty vicious. Okay, add patty, McKay. With New York, even have a chance at turning red, we desperately need help. Uh, yeah, it does. I spoke at an event for Lee elden, not that long ago, and patty, you know, Jim and Mike and I lived in New York when the mayor was Rudy Giuliani and the governor was George pataki. Have you seen his documentary called the 7 5? I have. What is the 7.5? Who is Michael dowd? It is a precinct in New York City. It was known for a long time as the dirtiest, most corrupt precinct in the NYPD, I worked there. My gosh, Dan. The January 6th committee is going to be investigating you soon. And now a cleaned it off long before I got there. I was in the 80s. I didn't get there till the late 90s. But yeah, I mean, a lot of the guys talked about some of the guys who had been around when that happened, Michael dowd, who did a documentary on some of his misdeeds, shall we call them in the 7 5? And yeah, guys used to tell stories about that all the time. You wouldn't believe what these guys were doing, man. It was like crazy pills. So yeah, I have seen it. I precinct was pretty rough. Okay, this is a good question dude. The real Chris Jones, hey, Dan. It's not a question for your Saturday show on Fox, but more of a statement, which is okay. He says I should mix together the rebuttal, the segment where we debate Democrats. And the Gracie jiu-jitsu guy who will be on Saturday night, by the way. Have Gracie put some sick liberal in some great submission hold. Chris, we can't just a crime. We can't do that. We can't have a physical assault on television. We can not do that. He's joking. He's joking. Liberals, he's kidding. Don't try to burn his house down. He's joking. On that note, however, please do not miss my Fox show tomorrow night at 9. I got Mark Levin on, who just, I already taped the he just again sets fire to the Democrats with the best Orwell analogy I've ever heard. And her Gracie will be back, that poor woman who got kidnapped in Tennessee, folks, there's an easy way for them basic self defense techniques to avoid getting kidnapped. "To Europe banned by the end of the year and sweeping sanctions that target banks, businesses and oligarchs, but is that smart policy? Those who argue yes, say Russia must be punished for its actions. The democratic government should be protected and that accommodation only emboldens Moscow. What I heard from our honorable opponents are the bully is far too strong. So with better accommodate him and the bully is doing quite fine economically. Those who argue no, say that isolating the Kremlin is dangerous, could undermine Europe's economies and lay the groundwork for escalation. So we do also need to think about those impacts imposing on other countries that may be far less able to cope with these impacts than we are. Russia is winning because of this economic isolation. In this context, we debate this question should we isolate Russia all this and more coming up on intelligence squared U.S. first, the news. BBC News with Sue Montgomery. Monkeypox is not a new virus. There are effective treatments, the chances of becoming severely ill or dying are low, but the speed of its spread has worried health experts. The WHO views the risk of further spread in Europe in particular as high. But this is not COVID. The WHO's declaration of a health emergency will not mean lockdowns or travel restrictions, but it should put governments on the alert and encourage increased production of treatments and vaccines which are currently in short supply. The United States is accused Russia of worsening a global food crisis by carrying out a missile strike on the Ukrainian port of Odessa. The U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Moscow had breached, Friday's landmark agreement to resume grain shipments. He said serious doubt had been cast and Russia's commitment to the deal. There's been no direct response from The Crown. The Ukrainian MP for edessa, Lexi goncharenko, accused president Putin of deliberately setting out to make the agreement fail. She doesn't want in reality any supply of Ukrainian grants to the world food market. He wants to rise enough food prices to cause social unrest because government changes. He wants people starving. He wants as much as possible. It's quite surprisingly that he did just in hours of deciding that surprised even me. The Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orban has said Ukraine can't win against Russia and is called in the United States to help bring the war to an end. It's absolutely clear that the war can not be won in this way. Ukraine will never win the war against Russia with American training personnel and weapons quite simply because the Russian army has dominance. Security officials in Ethiopia say almost 6000 members of a militia from the amhara region are being held in detention alongside hundreds of members of other armed groups, the young members of the fano militia played a significant rule supporting the Ethiopian army in the war against tigrayan rebels, but in May, mass arrest began as the government attempted to rein in the increasingly powerful amhara nationalist militia. BBC News. And four WNYC news, I'm Tiffany Hansen in New York. The man accused of attacking Republican congressman Lee zeldin at a gubernatorial campaign event this week has been arrested on federal charges. After initially being released without bail. David giacomo bonus, a resident of fairport, New York is charged with assaulting a member of Congress with dangerous weapon. The complaint says Jacob bonus pointed a key chain with two sharp tips at zeldon and yanked him down by the arm saying you're done to the congressman and gubernatorial candidate before being restrained. Zeldin was not injured, the accused attacker previously faced charges of attempted assault in the second degree. His release drew an uproar from Republicans who have long criticized New York's bail laws. And New York City is asking residents to stay hydrated if they have to go outside during this heat wave that has lasted for multiple days now. Officials are also trying to make hydration a little easier. Water on the go, a program run by the city's department of environmental protection has set up water bottle filling stations and misters around Manhattan, queens, and Brooklyn, 21 year old Peter sada was helping to run one of the stations set up by prospect park in Brooklyn. "There's a highway that stretches across the 93 days of summer. Where worship is an offered to the sun. But to the smoking tire, the S curve, and the spin turn. And if you ride it, make sure you do it in a Dodge charger, challenger, or Durango. 'cause on this highway, the lines being blurred are the ones between drivers. And demons, welcome to highway 93. The Dodge is a registered trademark. But you know, very recently, Shinzo Abe was assassinated. Veteran politician, given a speech at a podium and some evil monster killed him. This happens on American soil. We've had presidents assassinated. We've had congressmen attacked. Steve scalise was targeted, as well as other Republican congressmen on a baseball field. And last night was a shocking attack on congressman Lee zeldin, who's running for governor in New York State. And I remember when I first got the bullet in last night, the congressman Zelda was attacked by a man with a blade on stage, I remember thinking that governor hochul, the Democrat governor of New York, had directed her supporters to go to Zelda campaign events just hours before this attack. And then thankfully, Lee zeldin was okay. He managed to hold the guy's hand away from his body, the man did not stab congressman zeldin to death. A sitting U.S. congressman is a gubernatorial candidate Republican. And he thwarted the would be assassin. Congressman zeldin tweeted out his appreciation for law enforcement, the attendees who helped him, and then congressman zeldin said something prophetic. He tweeted the attacker will likely be instantly released under New York's laws. And I thought there's no way. Come on. I mean, I like Lee zeldin, but no way that could happen. Are you surprised to learn that the would be attacker assassin was quickly released from jail? The man who tried to stab Lee zeldin last night with the bladed weapon during a campaign stop was released from jail within hours of his arrest on a felony charge, just as zeldon had predicted. Let's welcome on our guest line. Congressman Lee zeldin to the Mike Gallagher show. First of all, congressman, I am so grateful for the actions of those who are near you and your quick thinking actions, there, but for the grace of God, this guy didn't have an opportunity to put the blade into your body. You must be feeling very, very, very grateful to that today. Absolutely. There were men and women who instinctively jumped on the guy to subdue him instantly. I mean, it really good instincts by a number of attendees who were there. Fortunately, I saw him coming at me with that weapon in his hand. It was lunging towards my neck area and I just grabbed his wrist to hold him back for what was just a few moments until everyone got in and the law enforcement was there within a few minutes and he was apprehended and gone, although as you just pointed out, it was just within hours after he tried to stab a sitting member of Congress at a political campaign event charged with a felony and instantly released due to New York's cash flow spare loss, which is crazy. It's beyond crazy, I would never have believed it. I honest to goodness, congressman, I'm sitting here, I'm not kidding you. I admire you and respect you and certainly support your candidacy and when I saw your tweet, well, he'll be released on New York's. I don't think people understand this. And this is not just New York. This isn't just a New York thing. It's happening and it happens in states all over the country where these ridiculous no bail laws have been instituted by Democrat politicians and Soros installed prosecutors and district attorneys. I have to tell you, I was shocked at your tweet and I'm dismayed that you were right. I can't believe I'm in shock. This guy's out. And I wish I wish that I wasn't right and that there was and this guy the attacker himself needed help. I was told that he was a veteran maybe he came home with a mental wounds of war. I heard that he was a little under the influence. Maybe he needed some help to deal with that. You're not helping that person by putting them right back on a street. There are people like while you're processing somebody for arrest and you identify that there's a mental health issue, maybe there's a drug addiction issue, you can assist that person. Now on a whole other level, is the need to be weighing dangerousness to look at slight risk in past criminal records and seriousness of the offense to make sure that if that this individual was released that there's some potential additional harm to my gate caused and a judge would have a discretion to be able to effectively proactively avoid that by keeping that person behind bars. There is zero discretion whatsoever in New York under this charge. It's one of too many different non bell eligible offenses and he's released and the person who actually, in my opinion, the person who ends up suffering the most because he gets released, is that attacker..

"So I'm going to respect that. We got too many other things to talk about. How about Kamala Harris in The White House? And you roll your eyes, think about it. Realistically, considering a 79 year old infirm feeble man with COVID. If he doesn't make his term because he gets sick or he resigns, nobody wants any harm, obviously to come to him or want him to live a to be a hundred. But if he doesn't make it through his term and Kamala Harris, his president. And consider this, and then things get better, somewhat in the next two years. Do you know how they probably won't? But if they do, just by the virtue of time, just by virtue of the fact that Republicans have control of the House in the Senate, things could get better. And if they get better, and she's in The White House at the time, do you know how hard it will be to beat her? Think about that, I'm sorry. I'm trying to be a realist here. 806 5 5 mic, 806 5 5 6 four 5 three your voice coming up here on the Mike Gallagher show. With everything that's going on, I just got a note from a friend of mine that said that a would be assassin of a gubernatorial candidate in New York State just got released without bond. Now, I don't know if that's true or not. He sometimes is not great with facts. I want Derek to see if that's true or not, because if it's true, this should be the biggest story in America. A guy running for governor, a conservative Republican named Lee zeldin was on stage last night and a man jumped up on the stage and attempted to stab Lee zeldin to death. Somehow they managed to get the blade out of the guy's hand, zeldon was able to hold the guy's hand away from him and Lee zeldin miraculously survived. Often these politicians who are victims of attacks like these do not survive. Lee zeldin did. Now, surely, in Kathy hochul's state of New York, another blue state run by Democrats surely they didn't release this guy from jail, right? Well, apologies to my friend. He was a 100% correct. The man who tried to stab Republican candidate for New York governor Lee zeldin with a bladed weapon was released from jail within hours of his arrest on a felony charge just as Lee zeldin had predicted. "On the other end this week. Metro dread is finally out in. Sam reviewed that and sam give it a nine amazing which is great to hear because leading up to the release. Sam was having a hard time getting excited for part of the stuff that they showed leading into this game. I remember talking about this game. Scoop where i was like. Yeah they're sticky on showing these like robot you know pursuing battles in the an emmy. Yeah and i was like really worrying. I think damon you brought this up before too. I think you actually said this. Are they like tyrants in reservoir they always you because that would really change the feel of metric right but they're not those are just like Contained stealth areas that you can go into and come out of just fine and you can take care of them each one of them eventually. It's cool that's not even the game though. The game is just giant. Master bosses that you need to be strong enough to be and finding collectibles and new paths and ways to get to areas in solving. You know what the next thing to do is and it just really excels at that. It's just it's it feels like you of metro game that i really wish we had in two thousand and three so that meant that we would. Have you know ten more by now. Has there been such a lol and getting these games and it was great to get a remake of two but having a new two d. metro. I didn't really think i was going to happen unless there are some big change. Your this is spanish team that worked in the game with a with a cord intendo people including a sakamoto who has been in the series. Yo since start feels great. Feels like a a a triple eight and ten game in two d like That's really cool to d game plan. I'm just. I'm so excited to play it now that you give it to high recommendation because you also reviewed return of santa's right. Yeah yeah and in that game actually like it's developer zumtobel if you if you're i kind of reviewed my reviewed about like what quibbles with one of the things was that playing on the three s this game in that game both had like fighting game style combat in arts like your gun is very reduced in terms of being you know just something you display and move on with us to counter attacks or slide or jump over things and dash. There's a dash in a double shot and seven love. The bosses require you basically treated like smash brothers on the three s. They were kind of like getting there and was so fast and everything. It's talked on those like little shoulder buttons and on the little screen like it just wasn't made for that 'cause you always have to hold like two shoulder buttons and do all your stuff isn't working this one man like like i would totally saddle it up in in Each time i played a boss reach time i had to do a really difficult. Platforming run of which there are left ables. 's we find ones and i use pro controller and it was so awesome bro controller. Melt so good. I said this is the end right at the end of and it's so funny they they They're saying it's the fifth game in the metro series. A of the mainline series. And it's the end of story line right so like what does that mean well at my review. It's crazier than you think like. It's completely crazy but it's also like this game. Lets you just be alone in hunting and be hunted Most of the game like it's not like it's not like this other type thing where it's like story story story story story. You should care about this. It's not like that. So it's like think about like how super metro told the story like it. Did it told the story like told it because you know metro games and because it could use a light touch and yet there's some cool stuff in this game. I like how it takes place in chose ruins and everything. that's like. My favorite setting for metro connects sam. Still like her past is like a little kid growing up with this alien race. Which i think is a cool backstory. That's my favorite stuff about primary zero-emission. That's this game has the most of and i think that's just in. You're excited to dive into dread dude. I'm so excited. I was super mattress. Your favorite game right super matures my favorite game. If i'm being honest. I think i've talked about this on scoop like i was kind of skeptical. That nintendo in mercury steam would pull it off. Not that impressed with famous returns Turns is a totally good very good video game but it didn't feel like special or national or like a big return to exactly in so Seeing them sort of punch up into big aaa like the switches nintendo's home console now like i wasn't sure they could do it. I'm so happy and so relieved to to see that You know that they were able to get it done and that everyone saw impressed with the boss fights in that everyone just like all like just that says movement is so fluid. Interesting like the franchise doesn't seem to be have fallen into a trap of like they just have to repeat like play the hits over and over again like you know same as she moves very very differently as a really different skill set than she does in you know super infusion in zero mission and even the franchises willingness to you know this is two point five d. They've done traditional to the traditional three d like not very many long-running franchises managed to strike that balance of presenting. You a new remixed vision of what you liked and enjoyed twenty or years ago at will actually come to think of it zeldon. Mario are two other games. Have also done that really well. And maybe it's kind of non nintendo studios like franchise like halo feels trapped in its past towards metro Doesn't and i'm so excited to play. It's crazy that you mention that thing. Of what nintendo is done software wise on the switch it if not the best one of the best games ever made. I think the best mario platformer in the best. Mario kart the best metro. Maybe like i dunno. It's crazy yeah thrilling. Firing on all cylinders metric primes the best metric and cited people like super metro. I mean i'm excited about even the lower in storyline implications like super It's super understated. It's never besides other which sounds like is ignored or like non canon or like you know if you count five. Metro games is metro one two and three infusion while maybe other They're considering part of that too than what's the fifth metro game are they saying. It's other just it notes. Metro gave metro-dade metro-wide is for this fusion. And then this is five. Got it so But they have built up kind of interesting. Lauren and interesting scifi world and these You know killer aliens and interested to see where the story line goes..

Searching for american citizen is in afghan allies all while. You were vacationing in the hamptons in your diplomats. We're safe in doha. Miraculously after their safe arrival the state department jumped into claimed full responsibility for what had happened. The response from your team is revolting. "Can you think of any parallels at in american history. No i mean i. Can't i trying to think here. I mean obviously the sarah program the military centrally brought in a lot of mexican labor stranding americans Know in mexico or anything. Like that. I mean i. I literally nothing anything similar quite to this. No it wasn't like. We were stranding americans by and large in germany after a victory in berlin in nineteen forty five. I i really don't know honest. Well i think that makes a simple a very simple to grasp case for impeachment then right then and there. If we're talking about an act that cost is going to cost the american pete. Some american people their lives at. There's no carolina president in american history. That's not impeachable. I guess. I don't know what is let's get to. The exit question. Will a potential republican majority house in twenty twenty three in peach. Joe by aaron. I'll let you go first since you have out for two guys. I agree that it's an impeach. There are multiple impeachable angles here. But i. I don't think that we're going to see that. I mean we haven't seen we've seen a few people here and there but there's been no serious effort from that. I've seen any way from leadership to talk about this or re- resignation or anything along the likes. I mean i if the shoe was on the other foot. And i know you don't come to our show for takes like that. If the shoe were on the other foot. I mean president trump would have been removed by now or in the middle of removal by now. Wouldn't you not we we can't even muster we can't even muster articles of impeachment. Apparently your answer anything. I tend to agree with that. And i think Half the reason. I wrote this column say was that there isn't a whole lot of movement on this right now. This is not a well circulated republican talking point. I've seen you congressman here. There i saw like lee zeldon of weeks ago. Called for pricing bein through resign i think josh holly said something similar but the i word the impeach word something that i really haven't heard a whole lot of of late. I'm very well thank you. Are you lovely. Thank you go right ahead. i just think that The basically what we've seen yesterday was that the republican party in in the whole has betrayed us they they turned into traders. They're not protecting our country There is an all out war on this nation and so very very dark horror and like you said earlier. We can't depend upon the publican party. And i think that on mass we need to start praying to god and say arise o god and your enemies be scattered because this is bigger endorser than what we can fight a while. What would i think here is. They couldn't even block this and then they pretend that this will help. Stop the massive bill behind it. They shouldn't vote for anything that will help the democrats with this administration. It's not worth twenty three cents out of a dollar on roads. And then you have the other seventy seven cents and all the rest of the crap. Thank you for your call. My friend let us go to representative lee zeldon. Who's running for governor of new york representatives zeldin. Looks like you might be running against a different kind of democrat. Now sir. yeah i mean. We'll see who the democrats end up choosing to nominate but we know it's not going to be andrew cuomo It's in one respect. Amazing that it took him this long to realise that it was time to go But as people are watching the press conference today there are a lot of people who said hey. "Beyond is here could you. You know who you're looking at what you were watching the game here between these these teams these uniforms. These players playing outta physicians or physicians never played. There was the mike up moment. I want to talk about that otani night. Of course but there was this human being right there. The little one coming back to win the all star game. Mvp awesome blood and rigor railroad junior rate like that. Tim keller show. What was the story to you. Look there's so many things not to like about the all star game. I'm going to focus on what there was to like which is important which was shohei ohtani becoming the first ever to lead off as d. h. And start be the starting pitcher. That's still just insane in an all star game. And vlad guerrero do what he dead. And even pete lonzo the night before to have the thirty five home run round. The young stars of the league showed up big this weekend and this these two days and that's what the game needs more than any. Yeah mookie betts. wasn't there mike trout's obviously injured. This was a really great showcase. I think for baseball's next generation of stars. You had vladi junior hitting that home. Run while fernando tatis was at shortstop getting interview and you saw his on field reaction. All of that was happening. It was just a really exciting week for a lot of the games. Young stars obviously otani kind of looked human a look tired during the derby which i thought was kind of charging honestly but i think it was just a really great showcase for for the games kind of next generation as we kind of move around. I really enjoyed it. Teases reaction with vlad. He hit that home run while he was was one of my favorite parts of the entire night. Honestly and i will say that as a casual fan. The game seemed like it was a ton of fun. I love the postgame interview also with tom. Rinaldi taking his time to share the microphone with the interpreter. And making that part of the entire experience speaking of the this game far beyond the. Us wasn't that a national story over the last couple of days two times the biggest story was it was national story. Then i'd say you know aside from the jerseys which were hideous. It was total win for baseball across the board especially to have not just young stars shining but those young stars as my the mentioned the derby having otani and soto to the most fun exciting players in baseball go head-to-head i believe ratings peaked at that moment unsurprisingly then to have otani come out and pitch a great inning was great but vlad junior being the mvp hitting that moonshot not only was an awesome moment coupled with the incredible picture it was also a reminder that as much as we talk about oh tani to. Tease is the faces of the league on his face to the game at that multiple races. I think as someone who gives the most bases on the show and monica the to the to mean we have on your show. Today you're allowed multiple faces. The coversation would be a lot. Listen easier the aria stark. Because i think it's a good thing for there to be. And i was about to say vlad leagues but leads baseball in batting average on base percentage that needs to be accounted for as well like he belongs in that conversation and he reminded us why last night all right. The uniforms did not work for you. Guys i'm sensing they didn't work out. The we're the microphones Being miked up. Did that work for you. Real quick on the uniform baseball one sport where you can wear different uniforms. You can't do that on a football field and have eleven different uniforms but you can do in baseball. It doesn't matter and see and you can identify the players when the ball's field and they've just made a change. But the microphones for me as much worse. And it's not joe bucks fault. He's told to do this. But the idea of hey look at me. I can talk to zander. Bogart's as he's getting ready to take a pitch from baxter or we don't wanna hear that zanu bogart sir. Zeldon wanna hear. What kind of pitch you looking for. Of course. I'm looking for a fast getaway monica k. Boomer as they game broadcast. I thought it was really cool. And i thought did it kind of artfully. It was interesting to watch the ark of the conversation when he didn't hit the ball the way he wanted to and he was still trying to get those questions then when he got back to the dugout. I think it's a cool moment. It's an all star game one. Could you see it being applied to the back. End of the season Jim lee would you be in favor of players. After seeing last night I love the micro players experts exhibition game. But it definitely is a little bit distracting. I love seeing them. Liam hendriks swear. It reminded me that if every player was miked up all season long. Someone get canceled. Really really really.

Visiting California Fires, President Trump Denies Climate Change

"The wildfires in the West have burned down entire towns and up ended the lives of millions of people many of last homes. So many more just can't even go outside because the air is thick with ash and smoke. The fires have also forced president trump to confront the realities of climate change, which he has so far refused to do. He was in California yesterday getting a briefing from state officials and Cake Ud's Katie or was there she joins us now from Sacramento Katie Good Morning, you're out this event with the president. The press was there and asking questions and you actually asked him straight up about climate change, right? I did I asked the president what role he thinks climate change plays in these fires and he insisted as he has for years that it's all about forest management that years of letting the forest become overgrown and not well-tended have turned them into tinder boxes. The president's argument was met with resistance from officials here on the ground including California Governor Gavin. NEWSOM, who urged the president to reconsider his stance in? Light of what the state has experienced in recent years hottest August ever history of the state, the ferocity, these fires, the drought five plus years losing one, hundred, sixty, three, million trees to that drought. Something's happened to the plumbing of the world. So there's governor newsom wearing a mask. We should say president trump not wearing a mask there in this kind of intense conversation. How did the President respond to that? he didn't seem to appreciate it in one exchange California's Natural Resources Secretary Wade Crow Foot repeated the central role of climate change in these fires and trump pretty much dismissed him. As we can hear, it'll start getting cooler. You just watch I wish science. Science knows actually. And it's interesting. We're less than two months from the presidential election but the president's comments were not really intended for voters in California and that's for two reasons. First everyone assumes California will vote Democratic in November and here in the state pretty much across the political spectrum climate change and the science behind it are not in dispute by politicians or by voters the. President's message that California is itself to blame for the massive wildfires seems directed at his supporters in other states, and by the way we should mention it's worth noting that governor newsom pointed out the federal government owns close to sixty percent of the forest land in. California. While the State owns just three percent the implication being that it's actually under president trump's purview. So. Can you just give us the latest on the fires this morning? Where do they stand? There are twenty eight major fires burning throughout the state right now with more than sixteen thousand firefighters working to contain them, and we have people who've gone through these fires and are waking up to a landscape marked by worry my colleague in Fresno Alex Hall spoke with Lee Zeldon, Suwa and her husband David they feared their house had burned down. What can you say it's scary. Especially, the first couple of days the fire was moving. So quickly that you know we had no idea if the house would survive. So I think that's how everyone feels and I know there are several houses. On the next street on Auburn road that were completely destroyed. So. Many people dealing with so much loss Katie or of. We appreciate it. Thanks you're welcome.
