Ethereum's Shanghai Is Nearing...
"Will you're gonna kick us off with the story that takes us a little bit down memory lane. It does. It really does. And we'll get to that in a second. The bigger headline here is within the next 8 days. We're going to see the Shanghai upgrade on Ethereum. We're going to see a lot of people be able to unstick their ether for the first time in over two years. Now, a lot of people are looking at this market event and predicting that it could put some downward pressure on the price of Ethereum or ETH as a ticker is called. So where I have a little concerns there is a little bit of celebration, but also a little bit of fear that we could be seeing again, some downward price pressure from this upgrade. On a technical front end, what this really means is that people who staked ether to secure the Ethereum network and have been doing so for a while are able to actually claim both their rewards and the initial capital they put up onto that network for the first time. Some people have been mistaken for just a few weeks. Some people have been staking for years now. And I think those people who have been seeking for quite a while are going to want to pull their money in order to gain some of the returns that they've earned over that period. A lot of these people are in the profit about 40% according to some numbers, or you can see in the coin desk article that we have here. And that means that those people probably are going to pull that money and put it into another trade. That could result in about $2.4 billion worth of price pressure on Ethereum. Of course, we're looking at the daily trade volume Ethereum. It's actually kind of a blip. It's about 20%. And this sell pressure is going to be spread out over the course of a few days. So I myself am not super concerned about this. One other thing that I do want to get to before I throw it over to you, Jen. Is that coin desk did stake Ethereum about two years ago with our node called Zelda. I hope set that up along with Christine Kim a former research associate at coin desk who is now at galaxy digital. It's a pretty fun project just to get our hands dirty with Ethereum network and report on it. And I think they're going to unstick this eth pretty soon here, donate a bunch of it to charity.

"Not only that, you can't see her long hair. And I don't know, I'm thinking this is actually Kylie, the goddess, and if you look at her, you can't really see it. It's hard to describe, but there's two little look like apostrophes kind of like halfway down her dress. Those two marks are also in the marks of one of the last trailers where I did a PowerPoint presentation, where it's kind of this up a little bit, like they're kind of the greenish gray, yeah, these things. Those things are also carved into the wall carving that you see in one of the last trailers. And it's kind of like a woman depicted. We didn't know really know who she was, but I'm guessing this is highly fucking awesome. I think it was so cool. What a cool twist to add. I'm getting so excited. I don't even know if this is real or not. Anyway, I don't think it's all done calling bullshit. And then link is driving a whole ass fucking car around hyrule. I don't know where this came from, but I mean, cool. Go on with your bad self boy. Who needs a horse? See, there he is getting the wheel for it. And then there he is driving it. That is a car. I guess who needs a horse. He almost looks like a big truck, like I don't want to use the word tank because it doesn't have the caterpillar wheels or whatever. But yeah, it looks like a transport vehicle of some kind. Yeah, I mean, cool. Like horses are so last Zelda game, I guess. I don't know. You did get the motorcycle in the last game. So moving on, then there's a hot air balloon, which is like, okay, sure, why not? And then there's a drone thing that he's on after that. Lots of technically things in this trailer. It reminds me of the zone I and I think, again, I talked about them before, the ancient civilization that was in hyrule beforehand. I think this is kind of plain into that. And then as you go on through, let's see anything else again. Okay, there's some really in the weed shit. I don't need to go into. There is an interesting point, though, where link does drop the master sword as he goes down to save Zelda in the very first trailer if you remember, she kind of falls down that dark abyss. And in that moment though, in this trailer, if you put two and two together, you can see that he actually dropped the master sword, which is interesting because later in other trailers to see that the master sword is actually like corroding. You don't really quite know why. And then Zelda says, please lend him your power. And then we got some character art and show Zelda holding a new sheikah slate and link has shirtless daddy mode going on. So a lot to unpack here and I mean, we could spend the entire podcast doing this. I think this trailer has got me even more hyped for this game. I mean before I've always been in the camp of I think breath of the wild blues of marvelous video game. Not my favorite Zelda game. But from what we're seeing so far, they're nailing the thing I've wanted from Zelda in a very long time, which is a dark tone and this looks pretty dark considering everything else that we've seen lately. So I'm really, really excited about that. I'm excited to see how these little story elements go together because the Zelda lore and the story behind it is so deep and intricate, but it's the sort of thing that you have to actively look into, like me who spent far too much time dissecting two minutes and 18 seconds worth of footage to get all of you. Well, we live for your Zelda fandom though. Thanks. A few more quick questions I have about Zelda and then we can move on is I want to know, are we getting dungeons or are we getting shrines? We saw a glimpse of one puzzle during this trailer, but was that just something else? Was it like a core rock thing? I don't even know those little fuckers exist anymore. But are we going to get dungeons or shrines? Is there time travel? What's going to be this weird alternate dimension shtick that this game is going to have? What is that going to be? Obviously we really don't know why is this sort of corroded? Why does link sometimes look like he does breath of the wild, but other times he's like shirtless and his hair is down and his garbage all torn up the sex appeal. I guess damn. I mean, hi, I'm thirsty over here. It's working. You've got my $70, which is the new price of this game, by the way. Anyway, yeah, I'm very, very, very, very excited for this. I was anticipating a delay. I think I was one of the few people who was, but I was. It was not delayed, which makes me happy. I just think now Nintendo can really start like this marketing push, but let's be real. They don't need to. Everyone's going to buy this game anyway. Correct. Oh, there's so much more. But that is the nutshell of all of that. And then again, I'm going to touch based on the amiibo, essentially if you scan any Zelda amiibo into the game, you're going to get certain paraglider cloth or a certain materials. They do have an amoeba coming out specifically for this game. It is the link pose that we are all very familiar with. He's holding his left arm because it's all fucked up. I don't know what's wrong with it. And then you have the collector's edition, which gives you a steelbook, and a steel poster. Yeah, and I think those are kind of the main draws of it. I haven't been able to find out where to pre order, because I would have done it a long time ago. Okay. So that's my Zelda recap. All right. Very thorough. Oh, there's so much more to you. I had to cut out so much. It's ridiculous. It's absolutely ridiculous. And here's me thinking, wow, it didn't seem like they gave us a lot of new info herself. Just gotta look. You just gotta play. I think they didn't hit us over the head with it, right? They reiterated the release date, but generally in the direct, like there's some kind of, 'cause they narrate a lot of the trailers and the things that are happening in the Nintendo direct. But not the Zelda trailer, they're just like, you watch it and you figure it out on your own. Oh, do we do? That's what we do. Like I said, we take hours to dissect two minutes of footage. And we're like, oh my God, there's an enemy. What is it doing? Oh my God, it's ridiculous, but I think this is gonna go down as one of the most hype moments for me personally. In 2023, it's been fun for a while since we got the announcement, but now that we're really wrapping up to the Zelda release date, it is just so fun to see what other people picked up on and what their theories are and compare and contrast. And we might not get any concrete answers, even after this game is released, but regardless, it's just still really fun moment for the Zelda community. And I'm loving it, but I hope you're right about who those hips belong to because now I'm like thoroughly invested in figuring it out. Oh yeah, I'm telling you it's the goddess. Oh God, that would be so cool. 'cause I feel like they would have just shown my joke, right? They should have just shown her. They'll just face if it was actually Zelda. Exactly. Why would they not have shown her face? Where was her long pulling blond hair? And grand like, I know don't at me. The first trailer, it was short, but unless you, I don't know, it's a whole complicated thing.

Lee Zeldin Will Not Run for RNC Chair, Still Calls for New Leader
"Lee zeldin, writing on Twitter, I won't be running for RNC chair at this time with McDaniels reelection pre baked by design. But that does not mean she should even be running again. Zelda goes on to say here and this is from Politico. Change is desperately needed, and there are many leaders myself included ready and willing to step up to ensure our party retools and transforms as critical elections fast approach, namely the 2024 presidential and congressional races. Folks, if we keep doing what we're doing now, we're going to be blown out in 2024. Zeldin wrote to RNC leaders last month, laying out the case for his potential bid. He came within 6 points of beating Kathy hochul in blue state, New York. Quote, no matter what, I am committed to doing absolutely everything in my power to help save our country with every ounce of my energy. Zelda urged the party to develop its fundraising apparatus, bolster its ballot collection and election integrity efforts and build its grassroots after Republicans fared worse than expected across the nation on election day. And again, Trump says Trump has been out there from day one saying no to early voting. Zelda says the better path forward would be for chairwoman mcdaniel to listen and respect the wishes of the actual grass roots, voters of our party, and allow the RNC to forge ahead with new leadership. Her greatest service to the Republican Party at this time would be to make room for a new chair.

A Look at Things That Still Matter in Elections
"Matter. Enmeshing mattered to where you were. If you were addressing these issues, if you were addressing the matters, it was local to your races. Again, congressional races are 435 if they got nationalized. You saw that it times depending on where you were attending the fiber Republicans and I'll say that the New York Lee Zelda running amazing campaign in New York, although he came up short in the governor's race. But he carried the coattails of his message, the coattails of the nationalization of the crime issue and the nationalization of the economic issues in New York were ones that actually compelled and carried the Republican House candidates in particular in fact right now you can and this is something that I don't think any of us would have for probably said beforehand is that the Republicans in new York are the ones really carrying the day for the Republicans to take control of the United States House. And I would just say a few years ago that you were never thought that. So messaging matters. In the Senate races, you saw this a good bit, especially in the federal and Oz race. Oz who came through a brutal primary was never able to just establish a message that number one satisfied the seemingly satisfied the Republican base and number two reached out to the independence and the others in this race. From the get go. And I think that came out a little bit of that came out from the primary that he went through, which left him some doubts in the minds of some of the Pennsylvania Republicans. But yet also at the time, it was the messaging I just never was able to penetrate and at the same time you had a fetterman candidate who was hiding from the media and hiding from the public.

"I'm back and we're talking about the midterms and some results have come in in the last day or so. In fact, I mean I were talking together about results out of New York. A number of congressional races that were poised kind of on the knife's edge or were right in the middle have tipped over into the Republican column. Let's remember, by the way, we think of New York, we're like, wow, New York really? What? But New York is fairly conservative outside of New York City. So as you begin to move Long Island as you move upstate, you republicanism is not uncommon, and in some ways it's even the majority. So it's only because of the dense population of New York that New York is a safely by and large democratic state. But what you have here is races that were that had about an equal number of Republicans and Democrats. So maybe even democratic leaning falling the Republican way. Now what does this mean? Well, it basically helps us in the house. And we have to give credit to this guy Lee zeldin, Lee zeldin ran against Kathy hochul for the governor's race, and he lost, but he lost pretty narrowly. I mean, if you look at those numbers between Zelda and hulk, I mean huckel won it pretty cleanly, but it was not the normal blowout. It wasn't something where hoku got 60 and zeldon got 40. It was something where these guys were just a few points apart and what that means is that Zelda had a sort of coattail in New York. He was able to pull up some of the other Republicans. By the way, this was just a confirmation of how politics works in teams. In other words, if you do well at the top of the ballot, you often do better at the bottom of the ballot. One of the anomalies of 2020 was the Trump lost, but Republicans down ballad did pretty well. This is an anomaly that I think about when I, as I put the film together 2000 meals and also wrote the wrote the accompanying book.

"Jen, I want to get your take just right off the bat. Obviously, what the heck happened yesterday? And your opinion? You know, after I think I went a little apoplectic. And then I just started laughing like a crazy person. It's all sort of like settled in now. I think. You know, I don't think it's as bad as the mainstream news media is setting it up to be. It's really funny, Carl, because if you listen to everybody on and I do, you know, as our friend Larry elder says, he watches these MSNBC and CNN said we don't, as you guys don't have to. I've been doing that today to see what the other side is saying. And they are gloating and they're talking about the red wave that never was. But a few reminders admittedly, I'm disappointed that the House of Representatives is not the landslide that we all thought. I predicted that Republicans would probably get up to about 225 seats. That's probably not going to happen. Maybe close. But it's a slow trickle of results. That's the disappointment. But when you consider what has happened across the board, the Senate map was never favorable to Republicans in this election cycle. It was favorable to Democrats. And the Republican Party created so much momentum that we actually put the Senate in play, which is why we started hearing the conversations in the first place about the red wave. I mean, think about it. Lee Zelda may not be the governor of New York today, but the fact that he got that close in the state of blue is New York. That's amazing. And then in my home state of California, what's been awesome to watch is in congressional races for the House of Representatives throughout the state. They've had, they've had districts where they've pulled money from the Democrat, and they've had to put it in other races because things were looking so bad.

You know, look, they were out there trying to win New York back writ large. And Lee gave up his congressional seat for the bigger mission. But here's what America doesn't realize. And it's also the Donald Trump effect there. We stole three congressional seats from the state of New York from Democrats. We retired maloney, the democratic Khmer chair campaign chief. The guy who controls their money. That is not an effect that happens unless you follow the America first agenda of Donald Trump. And Lee sells a champion that and to lose New York, my home state. And I'm a strong island kid, just like Lee Zelda originally. To lose by 5.7, that is a margin of victory for the Democrats that hasn't been that close in decades. To bring New York on that sort of precipice is a tremendous tremendous compliment to the campaign that Lee zeldin won ran. And the three that we picked up, the three seats. That's a straight flip that wouldn't have happened in any other cycle.

And he is embraced, especially by the orthodox Jewish communities, which are large not only in New York City, but also New York State, and that is important because you had people like de Blasio, the Democrats literally sending police to shut down their events during the pandemic. I think there's going to be some payback there. I think you're absolutely right. And I think that pandemic payback. I know you've spoken about it this plea now from our Friends on the left. Oh, we didn't mean anything. Please don't take it the wrong way. We need an Amnesty for our actions during the pandemic. No, you. You separated families. You told people they couldn't stand next to a family member at a wedding, you shut down events, you shut down schools, my kids lost two years of schooling as a result of this nonsense. So I think there's going to be that. We're seeing it in California. They're actually some seats that may very well go from blue to red, Nevada is a huge one. Clearly, where you're going to get, I don't do predictions, but my sense is we're going to see a Republican governor and Republican senator. And then even up into Oregon and Washington state, I mean, I just think that there is so much out there right now, Todd, that's not based on so called party labels, but based on the fact that real people like you, real people like me get up, we go to the gas station and go, man, this is $2 more than it was 19 months ago. We go to the grocery store, prices are through the roof and you've got empty shelves. And we've got parents who just say, look, I just want my kids to go to school and get an education. "York is a very interesting race. Cassie hulk came out this weekend and said, she's the underdog in the race. And her entire campaign and the Democrats message is that Republicans are conspiracy theorists. Even though it was Democrats that said that Hunter Biden laptop was Russian disinformation, they said that the virus came from a bat at a wet market. They said the vaccines will prevent transmission. They said we must lock down schools to prevent children from themselves. They called Donald Trump a Russian agent. They have been the conspiracy theorists. Play cut two. They have this conspiracy going all across America to try and convince people that in democratic states are not as safe. Well, guess what? They're also not only election deniers. They're data deniers. The data shows that shootings and murders are down in our state by 15% even in New York City down 20% on Long Island will leave Zelda comes from. And it's a Republican states where they have almost no restrictions on guns because of the abundance of guns people are killing each other with more frequency. The safer places are the democratic states. Even though she cherry picks one piece of data arson robbery rape, assault, trespassing all up. I think that there is going to be a northeast wave. I think the northeast part of America, for all of our patriots watching and Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, and yes, New Hampshire are going to rise up and shock the world. I think New Hampshire is prime for a realignment

"Zeldin is running for governor. He's a GOP candidate running for governor in New York. Boy oh boy, do I hope he succeeds. I wanted Andrew Giuliani, but Lee zeldin is a really good guy. You've interviewed him recently. And he was the subject, the subject. He was the object of a physical attack. Someone tried to kill him recently, and the news media essentially sweeps it under the rug. What world are we living in? Well, I would say that in New York State, it got a fair amount of coverage, but it certainly didn't resonate the way it would have if it had been a liberal governor running for the same post and another area. Yet those people that were taken in and put under arrest on the January 6th, a lot of them haven't been able to see their lawyers or their families yet. Lee Zeldin's Prediction Was Correct: His Attacker Was Released
"David Jack a bonus 43 from fairport New York was arraigned overnight in parenton town court on account of second degree attempted assault, stemming from the attack on congressman zeldin, but was quickly released on his own recognizance. In a tweet after the vibe. Have you seen this incident? We've got the video of it if you're watching on Salem news channel today. A bystander took the person attending zeldin's rally. Was took video of this incident. And it's terrifying. You see this guy stroll across the stage confronts zeldin, tackles him to the ground and it turned out he had a blade. He pulled a blade out of his pocket, which of course was going to be used to stab him to death. In a tweet, after this incident in Monroe county happened. Tennessee Lee zeldin tweeted his words as he tried to stab me a few hours ago, were you're done. But several attendees quickly jumped into action and tackled the guy. Law enforcement was on the scene within minutes. Zeldin tweeted the attacker will likely be instantly released under New York's laws, Zelda was right. The guy was released.

I think that that school like you're still getting your classic items in right. But i don't think the moments become like that dominant. They're still pretty dominant in this dungeon and it still has that a homeowner could deal with that wall. Now i think about that at the beginning of the dungeon like it's really cool. I didn't know you could use them for all the ks that i saw all over the damn place until the guy told me right. It's it's cool item. And i like new items and zelda i also was a fan of this boss fight that they fourche away to make you use the moments even though you didn't really like that wasn't necessary but it's it's probably one of my favorite boss holds in this game. It's a giant mechanical statue. Shoot its hands beat. Shut out of his hands than the head will fall down the shrink go inside the head as minister link and then hit a glowing thing glowing column you have to use the and then later on you have to use the moments to dig the glowing column to destroy this big robot. Then you get kicked out. And that's when i get real mad. Zelda boss fights mac and no one is supposed to do here. I just didn't fast. I didn't know kick you out. Because i was a couple times but apparently how cool part like that. It kicks you out. I figured it did. But i thought it would cause i wanna later one dollars taken a that. I couldn't i couldn't find it because they're six columns covered in dirt. And i'm like where's the fuck. Is this thing okay. That's cool. I for some reason. This boss fight really amusing. I don't know why. But it. Just i was really in this. Got me excited. And i don't really know you love those two hand bosses like an illusion guy. That's what it is. maybe. I'd i don't like that one but i want to play games with them. So just give me those flashbacks of that and like nope not a fan. That's a hard boss. I had to start the game at least this boss other hands didn't reactivate if you took too long. Or maybe they do. I don't know on that was really. That was what might panic was like. This is blue hands gonna come back. If i don't get this reading and faster now died my shrinking down. I was like it's gonna come back by the time. I don't shrinking with the fifteen. Yeah yeah that's weird. I remember that animation. I just hit the button. And one way i you know i did roll a lot. Though to fund our only was faster also at one point in the game. I did have a slowdown for no reason at all but because some i'm not sure what the hell happen. Well actually i know what happened..

"We cover like super princess peach and we don't really get thirty two bit. Mario and zelda sprite based stuff that often that kind of color detail that like everything. Is you know sixteen. It stops there or then we go like three d sprites. The way like worlds is and this is. This is like the most color rich. I think you ever get linked. Maybe i guess foreshores adventures counts but this seems like it's the same model so like everything super detailed and i diminish can do super cool things like that and you can have tons of huge spreadsheets like just memory wise. You couldn't have had in the super nintendo era so that all that stuff really bespoke sprites. Make me really happy to see in this game. I do have one question about the spirits. What the hell was diminish holding. Because i can't be the only one. I thought they were just dragging around a bloody butcher blade right. I didn't catch until i wanted to complete some of this but yeah yeah like because you mentioned one having a needle i'm like well. They all had butcher knives. That's supposed to be detailed. I'm assuming i have no idea. I mean i mean. I could see it. I mean they are little. There's lots of things that can kill them so they have a little knife ready to murder. I mean they're all over the damn place to everywhere you go. You find little minutes villages because there's a lot of them they are all over the place living around these this world at. Isn't that safe especially when you're little. It also has a cool concept that there are. There are no monsters in this world until after body breaks the chest open for all the monsters. Come from school concept. Yeah it makes a world very safe in the not safe. As i did get annoyed with the second the second area mount cash store that really was pissing me off and i i had to go there because at i died a bunch trying to figure out what to do. I mean i had saved as trying not to use trying to play zone more. Legit 'cause zelda but oh man. I don't was just getting really annoyed with mountain. I kept dying at first a bunch of times and i kept getting lost and it took a while to figure out for me to finally find the defined the ratings that you get that let you climb up the rock. You're just weird to me issues. Generally yeah i think i think this is where the game starts making things very particular and you have to do things in a certain order or else they don't you can't do them in that. It's not as stale and it's not feeling like every single zelda game you played before it because that's where i started getting turned off with like twilight princess for example. You know it is a good game but like in the early parts are just like. Oh i know the i know i'm going to have metro venial back to these things and i know what they are remained but like the gus jars like really cool and i. I found my old preview. I wrote in two thousand four like the gust jar. This is a complete different zelda item. I'm sorry i'm super excited to play with this thing. 'cause it kind of like it's like a gun but also a vacuum and it's cool so i don't know i don't know where i was at where i didn't wanna finish it but i don't know at the time i was kind of like having a beef with zelda and now i'm like looking at like it has nice charming any different enough like it's the stuff is not just doing the dark world over again and to kotel off of that. What's considered a spoiler or it's like the legend of zelda gannon's the good guy now which could be. You don't know maintenance. Not it's just people have speculated that gannon's the good guy people have been wrong about a lot of the things that's true and i suspect this is one of them. I get something. The guy is to zelda games what the people who are like actually the parents in frozen They were the parents of tarzan and all the pixar movies and disney animation are all connected like yet. It's fun to about but it's not true like it's not gonna happen. Tarzan come on. This drew. I for those drums by phil collins magic Yeah so we're gonna talk about breath wild to relatively short. Because i mean when is there and talk about other than you kind of look like fending human in with your boston like the robot arm. Oh yeah you've got a robot arm you got robot arm and you can maybe transport through materials. Is that right. Well yeah we expect the big thing the thing that seems to be consistent because again they haven't showed very much but what they have showed is sky is all about the future of zelda and it's funny because we just played skyward sword coincidence maybe but This game also has a lot of sky stuff in it the in the latest trailer that they showed you know link or someone like link is jumping out of the sky. Presumably there are dungeon than the sky there towers in the sky I don't know. Honestly what i've seen breath wild even though i'm gonna play it like a maniac has not totally wowed me yet. I was kinda hoping for something weirder than what they've shown so far. Which again mostly seems like a lot of what we've done before but sky. But i i don't know so my my fear and mentioning again saying like some certain like a sudden obsession with lower in this series. I'm kinda worried about that a little bit because you know that skyward sword is the the very first gay in this all the time line right and there's its like own no. Is this game a prequel to breath wild. Is that why they're not calling. It breath the wild to right and this is set. We know that there was a hero before even the heroes of the age of calamity. spinoff game right yes. I believe that's correct. And and i could see how this would be connecting those two worlds that. You're you know you're connecting the skyward sword world. Ns in the fact that nintendo was like in a hurry to get skyward sword hd out that people actually play it. Yeah but the castle was in the ground and then it's gets pulled up so what. The implication castle went down again That's true that. I think it's in the future. It's after the events of the last one. I hope so. I definitely hope so i i would. I want to acknowledge your like canonical talk and talk about lower for second i. I feel very strongly about a few series that have lower and really shouldn't One of them is metro dade has like way more lower than it should have An and i feel the same way about zelda to some extent now zelda has generally been really good which is to say they acknowledge all. The games have similarities. Obviously there's always a try force and the gannon and zelda and link always in there and there's the master sword. But all the the only like linking aspects from mike lower standpoint have really just been. Hey this keeps happening. It's like you know destiny for these things to keeping the same way but other than that. They really branch out. So you have to worry about like returning characters as much or returning environments there might be some nods here and there but generally speaking like really stand alone. And i worry if it starts going down this road of like and don't get me wrong. I love anime. But like hardcore like attack on titan levels of depth to zelda where you know i'd rather just experience this world i don't need it shoved down my throat in like a ton of cut scenes. I thought the way they did cut scenes in breath. Wild was like very tame and minimal and wasn't overwhelming And i. But i'd be worried if they kept going down this road where they keep voicing people in like giving all this baxter that does not need to be there and the degree of difficulty for the sequel skyrockets because something that the original the world benefits from is i mean speaking enemy e you know you don't have your memory so really the story. Is you going from place to place in having these episodic adventures where you meet somebody and i k. You probably don't remember this but here's what you need to know for this next hour and a half and then you go on your own contained emotional journey and then you're on your way right and everywhere you go. People are telling you the back story that you need in kinda makes sense The sequel if it's truly a sequel suddenly you you you lose that I think the sequel also has the disadvantage. you know going back to the shrines. I mean they put they they. They really did it. Felt like everything could do with with shrine designed with the shrines are built around the four powers. Right you get so. I mean we've already seen one of them. One of them reverses time which is brand new You mentioned the like thing you turn into like a weird water droplets and like shoot through surfaces. So i'm sure that's one of them. It'll be interesting to see if the old powers also come back the idea that you could have like eight of those powers at once would be really interesting but again that might make it too difficult to have that many variables just wanna play. I think it'll be very good. I have not seen anything in the trailers that's like. Oh this is gonna be like a totally different experience. In the way that i felt about majority mask which again we talked about during the bracket thing the idea that matures mask took what was going on in green of time and totally changed it into something. That was completely different and was still incredible. An awesome super memorable You know still sticks with me. So i'm hoping that they are as adventurous with breath. Awhile too but they might not. You know now that they have this framework. I don't know if they wanna a risk. What is easily one of their most successful games. Yeah i mean that's the tough thing right. You create the greatest game of all time and then it's pretty hard not to just keep bringing making the greatest game of all time. Yeah i mean then again. "Affected by cold weather or heat or specifically with your character that you can freeze time and charge power up against things you can hit it across the map or use magnets all these different things when you do that. You're going to not like large chunks of it because it because it can't be carefully curated Can't be the classic nintendo thing. The mario thing where it's like. We know exactly how you're going to engage with this and we're going to refine it within a introverts life This is very much the opposite where sure. You're you're going to have frustrations with it. But on on the flip side you're going to have so much agency that win things do work. It's gonna feel like only you are experiencing that that special thing within the game right. This is a game for everybody. But what happened between you and the game that that was just for you. Say if you like you know put boko goblin squid guts or whatever on On steel box and then right at halfway across the the map Floating through the sky like some sort of weird. I don't i don't know some sort of link bird. Yeah one of those like youtube clips of people doing outrageous things with the physics. It makes me wonder whether how it makes me wonder how much of this stuff came up in testing and they were cool with it It seems like it must've right because the initial design of a game which you know they've talked about was design within this like game that looked like the original legend of zelda on the s but it had like physics interactions. And i have to imagine if you're going to start at that point which is like how like. How wide open does this game become if you have like actual physics attached to it. You gotta know that like wild things are going to happen. I don't know that they knew that. From the starting point you could launch yourself on as you said on a box. Straight until like gannon's face using physics that they plan that necessarily but they definitely pint plan for something super wide open. And you know as you said. Like mario games do not do that. Like you know hard core speed runners will find ways you can wall jump in a specific way and do something super wild but ninety nine percent of people will never be able to pull that off and it's not the intention of it whereas here the intention is to break it and really interesting ways where you're sending electricity through a chain of swords or using bombs to set up a chain reaction and i can only hope i mean we have no idea but i can only hope that breath awhile to whatever it ends up being called will lean into this even further. Because holy cow. It just makes the fact that i can still watch youtube clips of zelda today and it's now four years after the game came out his outrageous like it's really unheard of compared to any other mario game i can think or any other nintendo game i can think of. Yeah and it's the thing that i think i think. Do you think developers have gotten better at understanding. This i think for nine is obviously an example here but player expression is key like that is what people want. They want to be able to have a goofy thing that they can share with their friends on tax or that day can stream or that. They can clip in throw on youtube like that it. It feels good to have a moment. That is your own. And it's wild to me. How i still see a lot of games coming out. That are so determined. Have a hyper app. Preset experience right. And i. I know that not everybody on the show. Loved death stranding but something that i've liked about cogema's games as he's you know changed in his career is here is somebody who went from making effectively playable movies shirt with early metal gear solid games and now is making these bizarre. You know the stories are serious. But the world's themselves a leave infinite room for you to have humor in them In terms of training that you can just create whatever weird roads end paths. You want to your heart's desire that you can cause chaos and i think it's important for people to recognize like a game should be both things that it can be authored and that that should be available to the majority of players but that you should allow as much. Authorship is possible for the player if they want to come in and if they want to erase ninety percent of what what the creator wrote and do their own thing because that's funny to them or that's interesting provocative. Why not like why is that. Why is that. Why would that ever be a bad thing. The original material still exist like still going to be out there yeah. I hope that we see more creators allowing for that sort of freedom in that creativity in their games. Yeah i think there is absolutely still room for the like very guided experience you know. Incredible games like Limbo or inside are examples of games like do not have a lot of you. There's one way to beat those puzzles. Pretty much And those are still incredible games. They're also games. That i really have no desire to ever play. Yeah just like the nature of it If you're going to have to follow this one path to get through it. That i just not super encouraged buying it again. So yeah i you know. I think mix is always good and the options are people. Might you know. Make some goofy physics. Object happen You know what just roll with it. It'll end up in some youtube clips. And i don't know people click on it and take talk it. Is that what they do now to talk. I do do any final thoughts for people who also four people who have not played breath. The wilder people who are considering playing it again i would reiterate plants point at the top of the show. Which was true. If you're just starting out don't try to be too clever for your own good. Just play the game. How you think the game wants you to play it at least until you get your sea legs and then you could start like exploring and having more of an open experienced but for the most for the starting area is really meant that. Teach you off your tools that you have at your disposal. You just like kind of leaning into that. After that though and i think honestly when we're talking about like games that totally break them let you break the mold like no game has really done it quite as good as breath wild has and yeah man i just wanna see more that from nintendo. The what is it Merrymakers another good example of a great series of nintendo really bucking their tradition. And letting you get really really wild their it. And i only hope again that breath awhile to will follow suit. Yeah i mean. I think thing is Learned from my experience. Which is your opinion change. Okay it's totally okay. "So much stuff here that was new and fresh and had never been in zelda game before and ten years later i am not i am not sure. It is as successful as i. I thought okay. So here's here's the we. We talked about skyward sword somewhat recently when we were ranking of zelda games and if people will recall shat on it pretty intensely Yeah it. I really didn't love it when it came out. The things that i mentioned were like the beginning is super slow. That's still true And i didn't like the motion controls. I know griffin felt strongly. He'd like them but they never did it for me. They always felt kinda clumsy and Annoying and So in addition to the fact that you can use button controls for this for swinging stuff like that. The other major feature and this seems ridiculous is you can now skip through dialogue and skip every cut scene and you know what it kind of changed the entire game for me because i was able to sprint through. That really obnoxious winded. You're in schuyler off talking to everyone and everyone talking slowly and fi shows up and talk slowly and all that stuff can be kind of breezed through because spoiler alert. The story is all the games is usually kinda not great for the most part And you're able to get to the stuff that i think really really works in this. Which is i think. The dungeon designer fantastic. I think the The tools you're given or like really unique for zelda game You know the the remote control beetle the you get this like bellowing wind. This thing that shoots wind out even the bombs. This if i recall with this was really the first game where the bombs had like actual physics to them where you can like you can kind of bowl them or toss them but they roll and there's a lot of lake throw this bomb onto this ramp and specific where where we'll roll down and blow up the crowd. Yes yeah i've got the bombs this one. Yeah and that's all breath. Wild stuff like creative use of the environment using physics is like very new zelda game whereas previous albums all the physics was like canned physics. So i really do think look. It's not my favorite zelda game. Ever but i do think the changes they've made here have made it a zelda game actually eager to go and play whereas before i was just like now i'm literally never gonna play this game again. And that's pretty remarkable turnaround. I can't think of another game that's ever done that. yeah Feel strongly socks. I'll give you. That doesn't really sucks whole thing i. It's okay this is such a weird thing. It's just the whole thing is weird because what you've done is you've taken out the the absolute center of what this thing is and you do miss it because it's what the entire thing was designer at was this was this motion control with i mean and there are like weird clergy solutions for everything right like but none of it feels right because it wasn't like the fun of this thing was designed around. What if we can make sword fighting in his game fun with these. We motion controls. That was the core of the thing until like it doesn't feel like all feels weird and bad and there's weird stuff like two free. Look you hold in the left shoulder button. Yeah which is just like the default for every game. I've got like my fucking arthritis is flaring up. Because i'm like we just want to be able to free. Look like i can't in every modern video game on the planet worth noting free important to note the original skyward sword had literally no free look. It wasn't even an option in the game so you had to constantly drop into first person to like look around these rooms so even though it is annoying to hold down about and i kind of get it because you have to use that right stick for the sore controls. I'd much rather it be in there than not and actually does make exploring these environments much more pleasurable to actually be able to look around. But there's no reason that it couldn't because they're what they've done is right to the the right stick that you would use to look around is now map to sword right so you see. You can't do that. But then at that point. I would be the person standing up in the meeting like. Did we make this. We shouldn't do it. let's do. Let's let's port mother three in english. Let's see anything else. We shouldn't do this. Because it's it feels bad like and What else feels like. Oh it's so boring. Walking through the forest is so stupid and boring. It's like a maze for no reason and it's not a magical maze. It's just a forest. That has like lots of different levels and stuff to get loss on and get hung up on. They're like really if you do a real okay here. okay okay. There are so many segments in this game where you do like you climate thing and you swing on a vine and then you jump over another thing and then you climb across some vines and when you get to the top. There's a big log right. And the you push the lockdown and then it's like you could for now on you can just jump up the log. "You know if you played in most people probably played zelda breath wild most recently and you know while like joe said that game has wonderful kind of player directed story moments like you decide. You know where you're going to go and and whether you're going to jump into the main story the game or kind of have your own adventures You know the fact that this game with ledges elda Scoured as de is a more of a directed story. I liked your term page turner joe. I think we'll be a great experience. Either you know if you have not played that type of a legend of zelda game in a while or you've never played it if breath of the wild was your first title It's going to be great to get in into that type of a zelda story. I also loved Joe the way you talked about from the gameplay perspective of this being a kind of culmination of the you know the development team legend zelda development team and their tricks and everything that they've learned making previous three legend of zelda titles And i think that one of the best examples of that is in the dungeons of this game. And that's another thing know if you played legends zelda breath of the wild and missed some of the dungeons played in in previous games or or if it was your first title and and you know you had you definitely got a lot of different shrines in smaller doses puzzle solving in there. I think people are really going to love. the dungeons in in the legend of zelda skyward sword hd There's so much creativity on display when it comes to that formula of exploring a really cool themed environment finding a new useful tool than using that tool to navigate. The you know the dungeon that you're in facing off against unique enemies you haven't seen before in the game and then You know having a an epic battle of against some massive boss enemy at the end and then getting some great updates to the story. That's going to move the story. Forward that formula will be really refreshing. I think in a in a really fun. Return for people who have experienced that before in other legend of zelda series games. Or it'll be. I think really revelatory if you haven't played a legend of zelda title like this before i think it's going to blow you away so and even this game there's a lot of four for its time. When it first came out there was a lot of experimental Have structural changes that were done to the to the you know the flow of dungeon and then going back to the overall and then dungeon again. We're this kind of blended overrode a little bit more with the area before dungeon so there was a lot more lead up to the start of a dungeon. Just just a lot of different ways to get into the dungeon that that were a lot. Different for Kinda dissolve formula for the time. So it's really it's been really nice to just kind of go back and revisit that and see how they really crafted those areas to really feel kind of thematic and holistic and i. It's it's really super interesting to see Yeah i'd say this a little bit of puzzle solving in the over world this time to where just navigating through the areas to get to the dungeon. You're you're finding certain routes and then kind of pushing logs down that will give you like a shortcut. You know Later on to to get to the further areas of the of the stage faster so You know finding ropes to swing across tightropes to cross so. Yeah i think i think in this game there is sometimes in your world. It feels a little bit like you're into dungeon which is great for me. Because i think the puzzle solving is always some of the best parts of zelda games. Yeah it's a great point that like navigating the environments of you know the legend sell the scoured sort. Hd is kind of a puzzle in itself and your constantly for the visual. Cues you know. Oh there's a a bit of wall that i've learned. I can grab onto and climb or there's a rope that i know if i jump at i'll be able to swing on that one or you know once i have the you know the claw shots. There's a spotted a little target area over there that i can grab to In keeping your eye out for those elements in the environment And you know ways that will help you get to areas. You haven't been able to access before is is really fun and it it makes you as a as the player have to play the game really actively i mean you're you know it's it's really fun to just play through but if you're someone who wants to get everything and explore every nook and cranny it's really fun to look for all those elements in the environment that have been cleverly hidden sometimes by the developers That will lead you to all all the treasure chests and everything you can find definitely and you know we touched on this before anything you you kind of mentioned a couple of improvements but there's been a lot of You know tweaking. And refining and features being added to this version of a game and you mentioned the hd resolution the game and its textures are now at hd as you can play in ten eighty p on mtv mode and you know the game you know having played the game on we Way back when it really stands out to me just how sharp and colorful this version of the game is and then when you combine that with the sixty frames per second like you mentioned just really smooth. The whole world has has this extra kind of You know Fluidity sharpness to it. That i thought was really immersive. Yep yeah. I'm you know. We had a trailer come out. That people may have seen That highlights some of these. These improvements that you mentioned That go beyond just the upgrade hd and and the the faster frame rate But i think you know especially for folks who played this game When it first released they'll definitely notice these things of course if this is your first time through you just kind of get the benefit of all of these improvements and won't notice the differences much But we've been really happy to see People people's response to some of these improvements that that we mentioned like The character of fi- Who is you know. You're kind of accompanying Support character throughout the game and and she has all sorts of of you know tips and advice for you and i like to think of it that in the original version of the game she was bubbling over with with information that she just couldn't help telling you so..

High even a low and joe from the social media team at nintendo of america hijo chris. How's it going great. But have you guys back. And i'm really excited to talk to you about our main topic this month. Which is the legend of zelda skyward sword hd and this game launches tomorrow on july sixteenth. So the wait is almost over. And we've all had a chance actually to spend some time with the game already. And i've been having a blast and i can't wait to dig into all the new improvements that have been made to this version in here your impressions but i even. How would you just generally describe this particular legend of zelda adventure to people that might not have played the original version on. Yeah well you you bring up a good point This is a legend of zelda series title. That was first released on the we in twenty eleven so it's back now In what would think of as kind of a definitive version of the game There are a number of small improvements. that you mentioned earlier It also is you know in hd which is great to see on on the tv's we have today and and it moves at a really nice Steady sixty frames a second. When you're playing at which I think you know the the combination of hd and and the frame rate that people will see which you really do kinda need to see for yourself And then and then you're playing the game with the motion control that it's well known for you know if you are playing it that way with Join on controllers instead of the we remote plus and none chuck On the we version. Which i think gives you a bit more sophistication with your motion control so those things kind of taken together really blew me away As making this really definitive You know Experience with this game Based on you know compared to what. I remember you know when it first came out And it's also interesting. I think we've had a lot of people who joined the legend of zelda phantom family. Whatever you wanna call it With the launch of legend of zelda breath of the wild and twenty seventeen who may not have have experienced this game and so it also from story perspective in my mind is a really interesting. Follow up To you know if you're going to be playing this game for the first time. Legends all discover. Serta's d- After breath of the wild It's a great follow up to that game from a story perspective because Fans of a game will know that. This is the earliest part of the legend of zelda. Series story We're getting a lot of kind of origin. Elements here You know lincoln. Zelda are not the established you know hero in green and you know the princess zelda but instead of childhood friends who who grow up in this really interesting community called sky loft in the sky so setting and story wise I think it's a great Dose of of all the lore building and and those really fun story elements that go onto to become such established features in other legend of zelda series titles. Yeah so that's kind of like. I guess might might take from the game play. You know Presentation side of things as well as as you know the story side and where this game fits in in the overall lower of the series. Absolutely and you know the story is probably my favorite story. Actually have all the legend of zelda games because like you said it does kind of start at the very beginning of Of kind of all the lauren establishes you know for example the origin of the master sword. And and there's some other great you know we're certainly not going to spoil any of the big secrets and later on in the game you find out about some other things that that kind of changed maybe the way you might see some of the other elements that and later legend all the games. Yeah so so. Joe what about you did you play the original version of this game or are you really getting your feet wet with this version. Or what's your experience been. Yeah i did. I did play the original release when it came out on. Nintendo we That's about over ten years ago at this point and i was in love with it. The first time. I came out It was an amazing story. You said Origin of the of kind of the legend of zelda series timeline You know. I think that's a great point because wallet is the the really the start of the timeline. I feel like from a gameplay standpoint and from a structural standpoint. it's kind of the culmination of threes. All i would say end of that kind of traditional zelda style of gameplay and it does do a lot of really interesting things with the format and try to experiment in some ways. And i think that's really kind of a court tended the legend of zelda right a lot of the games you know while there is kind of a structure to them. They all kind of go in different directions. They innovate in their own ways. And this one is different in that sense but you know from a from a story perspective. I think that's one of the things that really struck me. And that's something. You mentioned. Chris with the kind of the overall plot and it being kind of your favorite i i would say. It's definitely my favorite as well. You know the characters are so really well defined and they're pretty different from their usual characterizations in the series and You know what. I really like in this. One is kind of the relationship between lincoln zelda and that really being the core motivating thing to keep driving driving you through the story so i really enjoyed that part of the of the plot and and how it really just kind of cares carries you throughout the whole thing. And you're coming from something like the legend of zelda breath wild where it's a little bit more of an open ended story And you kind of discover that for yourself. This is one of those ones. That's kind of like a page turner. So i really appreciate that aspect of the game Absolutely yeah and you know You touched on this. I think he both touched on this a little bit. But you know the place where this this game falls not only in the story of but also kind of in the evolution of gameplay came. It was the last main new console title that came right before You know all of the big changes with liz breath of the wild and in a way. It's it's kind of the the missing link know no pun intended in the series where you can see some of those changes that started to be introduced that would then they would expand upon and resolve breath wild stamina wheel and how that's tied to running and climbing things like that. You know the sail cloth how you could use that to glide down to Too far away areas. So it's really interesting to me from that perspective of well for people that maybe like you said. Ethan started with the series with the legend of zelda. The to be able to kind of see some of the origins of of where that came from. Yeah yeah and i think for both audiences both people who have played a lot of three d. legend of zelda titles beginning with oak arena time. But going all the way through you know majority asking and You know win. Waker in and twilight princess That you whether you're you fall into that camp or whether bludgeons breath while was your first title There's going to be a lot for you here..

I'm sorry i'm kind of interested to see what kind of gets revealed more from these high reward games because the fact that they're like third party developers but they're also still within cannon which is wild to me it's like it's it's a little bit of the risks. Were starting to see the film ministry of owning like your stories are not only here. They happened outside the scream. So it's like you might not you'll learn more about these characters from game that's not. I partied license or develop through nintendo. Which is it's this new zelda. And that's the thing. I think with zelda kind of purity that they never really had third party games so i think the big ones like for a they had like i think the big warriors boy. I think i was thinking more. Cdi but we're not gonna. We're not gonna talk about those. Those were look for some reason there. You could license With like for the most part like they're like every game came on intendo. I would only say there and like maybe on the mobile or on the handheld consoles but like there wasn't like you know like maybe had smash bros and they had like again link's sword training whatever and it was like everything other than that everything was all like. Here's the story. Here's the new story here. How it adds to blah blah and then like now. It's like well now something else.

I i just i think the brains behind the soundtrack for these games are are masterworks and coaching I can think of only a few other video game themes as catchy or memorable as the zelda theme song.
