Trader Joe's Seeds the Conversation About Plants & Plant-Based Products

"Plants and plant based products are certainly in these days. I remember the time when if you put the word vegan on a package it could actually hurt its sales. I swear there are things that we put the word vegan that afterwards. We're like what we do that because we killed it but maybe in the last five years in certainly more intensely in the last couple of years. We've seen this tremendous increase in customer interest for plant based foods. We have a new guest on the podcast today. I m amy. I am a category manager of a few different categories within our store deli fresh beverage and meet meatless an seafood in the frozen set. You head a lot of plant based things that are kind of obviously plant faced right like like the the juice shots for example you also manage what we call these meat analogues. The turkey lists protein patties and the protein patties. They don't say beef louis but there. That's kind of implied right. There has been huge growth in the meatless set. These new iterations of products are really going after the flexible -tarian customer and as people are looking for ways to have a healthier lifestyle improve their overall general health but then a better impact to the environment or incorporating meat. Free days meatless. Mondays in those sorts of things so these products really target customers that want the full meet experience but just a better version of it sweatshirt this as a better version of the full meet experience. Please don't i know it's implied. Did the two product types classic meat or now. New meatless does the product development sort of inform one category over the other. Like we gotta have a meatless bacon because we sell so much regular bacon or or does it work independent of what sells well in the traditional meet category. That's a great question. The new products that were developing our specific target to what does well in the meat or seafood set or chicken. For example i mean great tenders new sausage product that eats differently than our older or i should say first generation sausage links that we have. It wasn't that long ago when when we had to sort of change our expectations and we'd often wind up saying that's pretty good for vegan or vegetarian. Or an analog a stand in and now i feel like the products have changed to the point. Where oftentimes it's like. whoa. I wouldn't have known that was vegan. If you didn't tell me these days you see especially at fast. Food chains and in restaurants Like fried chicken. That actually looks like chicken. Sausage that eats tastes like sausage. It's gone beyond the burger to all those other food products that people normally crave And to get that texture in by it's really a lot more complicated than most people assume otherwise it tastes rubbery or it doesn't have that richness. doesn't cook the same to. That's been keep in mind that some of the proteins remain raw looking as opposed to really cooking and having the char in the grill so that you get that full experience not just the flavor the texture and the presentation of it. You don't have to give up your burger to have something plant based you can still enjoy those comfort foods. You just eat less calories or less fat for that occasion and you're doing something good for yourself and for the environment at the same time. Mimic mimic Animal based products. What's what sort of a holy grail product that you've not seen yet that that you're interested in in having developed bacon is one of them but then also a range of charcuterie. I have yet to really try anything that does well as far as texture and flavor. That's it's kind of more rubber which is a plant based material could could qualify fifteen years ago. I wasn't interested in picking up something that said vegan. Because experience told me it wasn't gonna taste very good. A great things taste good now. Oh they absolutely do. And even beyond just the meatless items the dips and dressings and whatnot with implant based cream cheese. I mean you would never know that you weren't eating a full cream. Cheese product tastes. It has the same mouth. Feel the same flavor profile the dips are at. That's an interesting topic because we've we've approved a number of them recently. Have i'm we're very excited to that. We have to zeki and a caramelized onion as well. That will launch in two thousand and twenty one and within panel. I wanna say everybody agreed that they actually tasted better or the same as a full dairy version. So you'd be hard pressed to differentiate them in a blind tasting. I don't think you could necessarily tell what else in the in the world of plant based stuff is top of mind for you or interesting things. You're looking forward to or. I'm looking to do more work on the seafood side. We don't have options yet within our stores for a plant based seafood product. But they're crabcakes out on the market or scallops ortona replacement so really looking more at the seafood to make sure that we've covered all of the proteins that customers are familiar with and bringing in the best versions of those. We have every single meal covered. We have breakfast options with links and patties we have burgers for lunch or even replacements for something as popular as our orange chicken so we've got a full spectrum so that you don't have to pick and choose which meal you can really incorporate it throughout your day or your week and really find what you're looking for ten years from now it will look completely different again know when you can mimic those flavors and textures. That people really love to have as part of their diet. Then they can feel freer to say okay. I'm going to have less meat in my diet. I'm not going to become a complete vegan vegetarian but maybe this day. I won't eat meat this day. I will absolutely. And i think it's becoming almost cool to say that you're you know you eat plant. Based that it's becoming more acceptable. More understood. people are trying new things so protein patties to sort of beef analog protein patties the texture is a little too soft for me for eating on a bun. Texture is a really big part of something being delicious or not Even though it's not flavor. I think one of our adams that we've really nailed on. Texture is the meatless meatballs. It's one of my family favorite items and we use it as a substitute spaghetti. All the time is just a way to swap something out. That's quick and easy you know and then add some shredded carrots and we've got plenty of plants and it's lower in fat and calories than the meat version that we sell as well and you would never know that you weren't eating meat. I think they're really great tasting meatballs. But you're not super focused on. Is it a perfect replication of the meat version. Because there's so many other flavors happening and the texture. I think to the point you just made the texture of those Meatless meatballs in the freezer. Case is perfect. They are perfectly meaty meatballs without without the meat. They're they're my personal favorite just the way you are

Saved from Gods Wrath

"God's anger doesn't occur nearly as often as readers of the moment. Might, think it occurs less often in the Bible and when it does occur, it's surprising. So God's anger appears first in the Bible with Moses in a conversation that he's having about how he wants Moses Represent Him and Moses refuses five times over. That's the first time goes angry. So that, itself is beginning a pattern that God's anger in the Old Testament is most consistently expressed towards the people that he's calling to represent him and the famous stories like the flood or Sodom and Gomorrah. They are acts of God's Justice Against Evil in neither, one of those stories has got angry in the flood God is overcome with grief and sorrow. So as the story line of the Bible Develops God invest in one particular group of people to be his representatives to the world, and they are the ones with whom God gets most angry most often in the story line of the Bible just like how we tend to get the most angry and frustrated with the people that we are most invested in relational. If you search a concordance new search out all the time God gets angry at Israel. You'll find a few dozen stories and you'll find a pretty consistent response. How does God expresses anger and its most consistently demonstrated with the phrase and God handed them over who gave them over into the hands of their enemies. So God hands Israel over to the consequences that are destructive and ruinous, but it's the choices that they made that got them. There Motza, says it's got hiding his face. And the Prophets as they Jeremiah Zeki Oil, they developed the big way and the bad guys that Israel's handed over to because of their faithlessness to the Covenant is a Syria and Babylon. Syria we didn't talk about this Isaiah calls a Syria the the Rod of God's anger. Does if Syria is the instrument of God's anchor, which is to hand Israel over to their bad decisions. So when Jesus enters the scene, he sees himself in the role of another one of these profits but also as the Covenant, God, of Israel, himself pursuing his people again. Warning them that if they don't accept his way of being Israel among the nations that they are going to yet again, be subject to God's anger, which will be to be handed over to the power of from. Jesus warned that this would happen and when he wrote in to Jerusalem for Passover, he intentionally provoked the rulers of Jerusalem challenging their authority claiming that he was Israel's trump thority and when he began to talk about what he thought was going to happen it becomes clear that he knew that he was going to die. In fact, he went to Jerusalem specifically to poke the bear. To provoke the leaders to a showdown knowing that they would kill him but it's not a tragedy. Jesus is in Jesus, is he is and uses this phrase multiple times in that. Passover week that he's going to drink the Cup of God's anger, which is a key prophetic prophetic image for being Israel being handed over to pagan oppressors to foreign foreign armies say that against him he's going to drink. The. Cup of God's anger. Yes. Which is a very particular testament metaphor for Israel being overwhelmed and conquered by foreign armies and pegeen oppressors. So the put a fine point on it when Jesus uses that phrase you think he specifically thinking about the fact that he's going to be killed by Roman oppressors. Yeah and the and the corrupt leaders of Israel that are in league with them Yes I think that if you just study the scriptural hyperlink, the Jesus making their I, think it's but unavoidably to the conclusion, and that's precisely what he goes to Jerusalem to do, and that's why he stages his protest in the temple courts in full view of the leaders of the temple. But also in view of the Roman governor because the Roman governor had vested interest in keeping the peace in the temple courts. So Jesus is trial the moment of these two Jesus standing on trial an innocent. Jesus son of God and then guilty. Jesus boss, who's The a rebel against Rome and the innocent Jesus who was trying to tell Israel to love their Roman enemies, and then the guilty Jesus who tried to kill the Roman enemies go free and Jesus intentionally goes to his death on behalf of his guilty people and this is what he meant by drinking the Cup of God's anger the anger there is simultaneously the the wrath of Rome and the the wrath of Israel's leaders. Another important strand in here is Jesus as understanding of his death and confrontation as being a cosmic confrontation with. Demonic spiritual powers that have hijacked the kingdoms of this world to be instruments of injustice as opposed to justice, and he believes that he's confronting the powers of

Nations Come and Fall (Ezekiel 26:1718)

"Zeki chapter twenty, six, versus seventeen, and eighteen. And they will raise a lamentation over you and say to you how you have perished. You were inhabited from the sees Oh city renowned who is mighty on the see she and her inhabitants imposed their terror on all her inhabitants. Now, the coastlands Trimble on the day of your fall and the coastlands that are on the sea are dismayed at your passing. So this is. The end of two chapters in Ezekiel Chapter Twenty Five, twenty six to begin a series of chapters in the book of Ezekiel where God tells Ezekiel to Prophesy Against Not his people in Judah, the people of God of Israel instead to the neighbors, the nations, surrounding Judah, surrounding his people. So chapter twenty, five starts with the prophecy against Ammon and MOAB and seer and eat him and Felicita and then chapter twenty six begins a prophecy against tire and that's what this whole chapters about. The reason, I read these two verses WanNa pray according to them versus seventeen and eighteen is because God is. Speaking to a nation and a people that had prospered. and. He's talking about how they were mighty on the sea and imposing terror on others they were renowned. But now in an instant God says all of that would be taken away. And he would bring them low and the coast lands would be dismayed at how this once renowned powerful people just like that were gone. Just like that, when the total opposite direction and reading these chapters, these prophecies from God through Ezekiel among the nations is a sobering reminder. That no matter. How Great. Powerful Influential a nation might be. My claim to be might be perceived to be. Nations come and fall and can fall just like that at the sovereign decree of God. And particularly as well. God's Sovereignty on Display (Ezekiel 17:24)

"Ezekiel. Chapter Seventeen verse. Twenty Four All the trees of the field shall know that I am the Lord. I bring low the high tree and I make high the low tree. Dry Up, the green tree and make the dry tree flourish. I, am the Lord I have spoken and I will do it. This is the last verse in chapter that uses all kinds of different images and parables really that we don't have time to get into here in the short podcast but the reason I read this verse one lead us to pray according to this verse. Is the sheer sovereignty of God on display in the words of Ezekiel. Seventeen twenty four listen to it again. All the trees of the field. So know that I am the Lord I God says bring low the high tree. And I. Make Low tree high. I. Dry up the green tree I make the dry tree flourish in other words. Or not a tree, yours high or is low is dependent on who? It's dependent on God. He is the one who is sovereign over the height of trees and then whether or not they're green or dried up when another flourishing or an empty God is sovereign over that. The whole picture that we have in this verson course all over scripture is that everything? Exists under the sovereignty of God. That God is in control with authority over all things. and. And this is A. Reminder for every single one of us today. There so many implications of this. But let's just let it lead us to prayer Oh God. We pray that you would help us to understand. What it means to live. Under your sovereignty. To understand all things under your sovereignty. God we praise you for your sovereignty. We praise you the you are ultimately in control of all things that the world is not spinning out of control even when. So many circumstances around us. Right around US far from us. Seem like they're out of Control God we praise you that you are on the throne and you are ultimately in control even the things we don't understand God we praise you. That you are ultimately sovereign over everything and so we submit to you. Oh God our lives. Depend on you. We can do nothing without you. So we pray that you would help us to grow in humility. Help us to grow in. Glad submission to you. If you are lord of all than you are indeed Lord of our lives, and so we lay down our lives before you and we pray help us to follow you help us to obey you help us to hear and understand your word and live according to it. God is we look to our future and our lives. Future in her family's future in our country's future in the world, we say all of our trust is in you it's not in riches. It's not in this or that leader it's not in our possessions. It's not in anything. This world offers us all of our trust is in you you're our hope all of our hope is in you. Even think about your sovereignty and averse like Romans Eight, twenty, eight, you're working all things together for the good of those who love unit called according to your purpose. That's only true. We can only believe that if you are sovereign over all things and so we praise you praise you for your sovereignty over all things, your power and authority to work all of them together for the good of those who love you and have been called according to your purpose the. The limits of your sovereignty and what that means we cannot exhaust so. Oh, God, we we cannot fathom. The implications of your sovereignty over all things but based on Zeki Chapter Seventeen verse, Twenty Four. We pause right now and rephrase you as the Lord of all we humble ourselves before you and we say in submission to you not are will today but yours be done only keep us close to you trusting in you pointing to you. Seeing everything to Lens of who you are. Mesa God centered people who live in the light of your sovereignty over all things. In Jesus name, we pray in the name of the one who has all authority in Heaven and on Earth in Jesus name we pray.

The Promise of a New Covenant (Ezekiel 11:18-20)

"Ezekiel Chapter Eleven versus eighteen to twenty. When they come there. They were removed from it all it's detestable things and all its abominations. And I will give them one heart. And a new spirit I will put within them. I'll remove the heart of stone from their flesh and give them a heart of flesh. That they may walk in my statutes, keep my rules obey them. And they shall be my people and I will be their God. These, these verses are like. Drinking Water in a desert when it comes to reading through Zeki Lange's seeing God's. Just and righteous judgment upon sin and idolatry and immorality among his people. And yet in the middle of chapter eleven here we see this promise. That God is even in his discipline, God is accomplishing purpose and will one day restore his people to himself remove these detestable things and abominations for among them. Then, we'll have a new spirit in them. Remove the heart of stone. God says removed from their flesh I'll give them a heart of flesh that they may walk in my. Keep my rules and obey them. They shall be my people I will be their God. Now, this is one of couple of places in Ezekiel or we see prophecy. Promises of the new covenant. which by the way is what tested means Covenant between God and his people that Jesus would make possible as we get into the New Testament of the Bible. and. The book of Ezekiel in the sense especially as we read about judgment after judgment after judgment from God. Is a clear reminder. That we need God to do what we cannot do ourselves. We need. God to save us from our sins. Forgive US cleanse us from our sins. We need God to give some new spirit. Put a new spirit in us that enables us to walk in his statutes, keep his rules and obey them. We can't do that on our own where we got to be so careful. As followers of Jesus says those who've trusted in Jesus not to live like we can obey God's statutes and rules walk in his ways in our flesh on our own we need his spirit inside of us. Leading, guiding, directing, helping, empowering us to live according the life he's call to, and that's exactly what the spirit of God is. Four. So I just want to encourage your Dan WanNa pray accordingly that you would not live today in the flesh meaning in your own attempts to say God into do what he has called us to do but the you and live in the power of the spirit of God in you who enables you to walk in God's statutes and keep his rules and obey them that you. I would live spirit filled spirit directed Holy Spirit empowered lives and God may be so. We we we praise you your grace. We. Praise you for your provision for our salvation is we praise you for doing what we could not do. We we praise you for doing what we could not do none of us. The best of US could not do none of us can keep all of God's rules and statutes and laws. We have all rebelled against you God and Jesus. Alone perfectly obeys perfectly fulfills your law. By your spirit to live the full abundant life, you've called and created us to live. We just confessed today in a fresh way. We can't experience that kind of life on our own. We need you your spirit in us to empower us to live the abundant like you've called is to help us to walk in your statutes. Today help us to keep your rules to help us to obeying your good laws today by the power of your spirit in us make us spiritual people who are led by the spirit of God guided by the spirit. Bring Us to Repentance (Ezekiel 5:5-6)

"Ezekiel chapter five versus five and six. Thus says the Lord God. This is Jerusalem. I've sat her in the center of the nations with countries all around her. And she has rebelled against my rules by doing wickedness more than the nations and against my statutes more than the countries all around her for they have rejected my rules and have not walked in my statutes. This is a sobering chapter of scripture, these verses. Extremely sobering as God is talking about. His judgment on his people specifically in Jerusalem. And the way God compares his people. With the surrounding nations, he had put them in the middle of the nations that they would be light that they would show the goodness of God as they followed his law. They would show that God's ways are good and better than anything else in this world and the people of God had not only not done that I not followed God's laws got statutes. They had rejected his rules and they were living in greater evil than even the countries around him didn't even have God's law. Wow. There's so much here that leads us to pray but particularly, WANNA lead us to pray. God would make our lives and us as his church like a holy. And pure that we would not reject his rules that we would walk in his statutes and we would show the goodness of God. The goodness of God's Word God's truth God's ways that are so much better than the ways of this world that would be evident in us as his people God may be so we pray. God, forgive us for ways we individually. And as your people. Reject your rules and. Don't walk in your statutes God. Please bring us to continual repentance when we turn from you. When we walk in disobedience to your word God we pray for. contrite hearts. Then are humble and quick to repent. When we sent even A. Conversation I had this morning just about. Sin In our lives and how serious it is and turning from and running from it. God. We pray you'd help us not to be casual with within help us to hate to even that which we would be tempted to classify as a small center. No big deal. God. We pray that we would see Sen. As the horrible offense than it is to you. And even as we pray that God, we praise you for saving us from our sin. Jesus we praise you for dying on the Cross for our sin in all of its horror for taking the judgment we deserve upon yourself even as we read Zeki Chapter Five, we think. Who Shudder to think of where we would be if we endured your judgement for our send. Thank you, Jesus for saving us from the judgment we deserve and re pray that based on your salvation with the power of your spirit Ns the you would help us to walk in your statutes and to obey your rules to live cording to your law, your word and in this way to show. People, around us. That you are good that your ways are good. The your word is good. Oh God may that be evident in our lives? May We walk in obedience to you today as we do? May We reflect your goodness your love your wisdom ultimately your glory in the world around us God may be so we pray in Jesus name.

Empowered by His Spirit - Luke 4:1

"Luke chapter four verse one. Jesus full of the Holy Spirit. Returned from the Jordan was led by the spirit and the Wilderness for forty days, being tempted by the devil notice, and this is a huge theme both in the Gospel of Luke and the book of acts which Luke. Writes, notice that twice in this one verse we see the spirit in relationship to Jesus. The Holy Spirit Jesus full of the Holy Spirit returned from the Jordan, and was led by the spirit in the Wilderness for forty days being tempted by the devil. So full of the Holy Spirit being led by the spirit, and even into the Wilderness, where he is tempted by the devil, and these three temptations that we read about in Luke chapter four and Jesus overcomes them all. because. He is full of the Holy Spirit because he is walking in step with the Holy Spirit. You just think about how this theme progresses not just in Jesus life, but then when we think about the book of acts, you'll receive power. Jesus says when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you'll be my witnesses. The Holy Spirit comes at pentecost like totally turns everything upside down just as Jesus had promised everything in the Christian, life hinges on the Holy Spirit of God. Everything when we come to faith in Christ, it's because the Holy Spirit of God is working in our minds, and our hearts, opening our eyes, and our hearts to trust in Jesus, and then from that point from the point of salvation. We are filled with the Holy Spirit God puts his spirit inside of us. This is the promise from his Zeki Chapter Thirty six. Put a new spirit in you. You. This is what Jesus promised throughout the Gospels I will give you my spirit. This is what we say and our church every single Sunday when we leave just saying I will be with you always to the end of the age. So how is Jesus with us? He is with us by his spirit in us, so let this verse Luke Chapter. Four verse one be reminder to you today, Christian! That you. Are Not called to live today? A natural life. You are called to live a super natural life. Empowered, not by your flesh are not by what you can manufacture. Or make happen on your own. You are called to live today by the power of the Holy Spirit of God who lives and dwells in you. Oh God. Help us to live today full of your Holy Spirit. To Walk. In. Step with your Holy Spirit to do all that we do today directed by Your Holy Spirit. To help us to see our lives this way not as natural but as supernatural. A Whole Lot of Home Cooking

"We've been sort of in quarantine now for about two months and I think as trying as these times have been for everyone I think one of the I don't don't call it a silver lining up side. Whatever is that we've been in this nation of Home Cooks and personally speaking. I can say without question. I've never cooked better food or more consistently than I have in the last eight weeks and I'm kind of astounded as someone. Who's you know? Food Industry Professional Yada. Yada like how much I've learned in how much I've gotten better as a home cook I. Is that a fair statement. Carl. What's been your take. I have never in my life. Cook dinner as many times in a row as I have been quarantine we've ordered in one time. Yeah it's interesting because you know worked at a test kitchen gather for years but there are so many days of the week by the time I get home. It's either too late to make dinner or are those certain days where you get home and you're just done and I imagine gauge to this being in the entertainment industry where just emotionally mentally physically. You're just spent by the time you walk in your door. It took it took maybe a month for people to become accustomed to this new way of working these of zoom etc etc. My wife and I in the same small space rolling zoom calls screaming over each other coming up with hand signals waving at each other. Give each other the finger trying to keep trying to tell each other to push both of us not realizing that we are in fact screaming over the zoom and and that's all day every day and it's and things didn't really slow down and now things are really kind of picking up with work. So yeah you're on zoom calls. Maybe like ten hours a day and then you gotta figure out dinner so it definitely it definitely makes you do some planning and for me and I don't want to spend too much time talking about it but obviously sourcing alike. Light Carla. I've we ordered in once during this two month period and for me the idea of sourcing. Fresh food has been a super challenge and that I spent a lot of time doing and something that I realized how much we take for. Granted are access to great food and how much thought it really takes now and and I also think about people that don't still have access to the same level of products that we have and it's actually changed my entire thought process about food about sourcing about groceries and consumption. In general I would say a couple of things on logistically. The daytime thing is interesting working from home because like when I'm at home if I have a window between two and two thirty I'm like oh I can start marrying that chicken or I can start prepping this so that when it is time to cook dinner at six o'clock. I've already got a lot of that. Legwork done but on a regular workday you. You don't have the ability to do that. You kinda starting from scratch every time you get home and then also. I've never used my freezer this much and in terms of like. I know we're all making an effort to not go out to the store all the time so I actually. This is the first time I use my freezer with all sorts of different frozen prepackaged meats as opposed to the freezer in the past. Always been that thing. I just threw stuff in and never saw again like a freezer graveyard and now it's like a treasure chest. Yeah no it's like what's in here Carlos. Because you're you're more organized than we are. We have you evolved in that sense in terms of storage and freezing and stuff ingredients. My only complaint is. I wish I had a chest freezer or like now. I get it like the to fridge. Households I wish I had the garage with the other fringe because I holds me back. A lot is just feeling like their fridge. When I stock up is so full that with the let between the leftovers the condiments the fresh stuff like gave us talking about if you're only shopping once every week or ten days like that that that space fills up so fast so we've got a cooler on the back deck and just the rotation of freezer packs into that and it's not a huge one. It's like It's just a ordinary coleman cooler but rotating the freezer packs into that and then figuring out what kind of produce will stand up in there so like citrus is out there and cabbages and things that don't need to be quite as cold as the other stuff. So it stresses me out a little bit. Because I really don't want to waste anything you know we early on we. We do. Have a Coleman Cooler where we put a lot of Greens in sort of sturdy vegetables and just kind of keep them cool but simone early on in this thing. She bought a chest freezer like medium small side medium size one and I thought she was crazy and like being like a bunker mentality nuclear war sort of person but it has been absolute game changer. And and then I went and bought a bunch of meats from Dixon's Farm San and Chelsea market and individually one pound packs ground beef and some dribs and this and that and I got a list on my phone everything in that freezer and I sort of adjusted as we go. Wow that's very organized for me. It's been a little bit like relent as well because we you know we're trying to figure out how to get stuff delivered here and try to do as little you know. Irl shopping as humanly possible. We signed up for with a farm in riverhead New York and Long Island that processes animals It's dairy and also beef and pork in inhumane. Awesome Way So I was like excited about that but basically it's it's they you kind of like order a wishlist. Every week of what you'd like to get. And then they just send you what they've got and so it's been like it's been open up the package. It's like okay. What am I doing with Pork Loin? I don't really. I don't really deal with pork loin housing here here. We go more now having abundance of Yogurt. I'm not a big yogurt guy. The other day I was like. Oh Pork Loin. I've got some yogurt. I'M GONNA make like Euros. I'M GONNA I'M GONNA. I'M GONNA like I've got some cucumbers. I never have to numbers. I'm GonNa make some Zeki. These are freestyle things. I wouldn't do Olympics. Global pandemic forgave to get cucumbers. I mean it's not a thing it's not a thing that we normally have. I don't I don't love cucumber. I don't know we don't usually put in Salads or whatever you gotTa Peel it all right. Let's talk about some cooking Carla. What is something you've cooked in these last several weeks that either? You've never done before that you were just so stoked about how well it turned out. Well there was one week early on when I really wanted chicken and I could not get ticket like it was one of earlier weeks where everyone. I don't know what it was like. Toilet Paper Lysol and chickens grain whole chickens. The American brain is like survival. What can I not live without teepee and chicken? So that's like the most American thing in the world so I wanted to chicken. Couldn't get but the place I I was ordering from had whole ducks and I was like well. I've made your dot com fee recipe. Which I swear by but I've never ever cooked a whole duct before and I personally would be intimidated. So what did what did you do? Yeah the thing. A whole doc is like it's actually terrible to Whole duck rate but I I was like birds bird a bird. Just have to deal with this but I knew that roasting a whole doc is actually very problematic the way roasting a whole. Turkey is problematic because the breast in the legs or like on a completely different Optimal like setting. So what it came. I was kind of annoyed because I was like. Oh Jesus Christ I forgot about this whole dock now I have to butcher it. Because roasting at whole is actually not a great way to cook it but then it was this really Validating sort of process of being like first of all happy that I knew how to butcher a duck so I was. I was sort of like it had been a while but I took the Brasov. I took the legs off. Then you have all this fat. So separating keeping the fat you know in one area had the breasts I seasoned up the legs to do comfy. I scored the fat on the breast and the little cross hatch because that's just really good pan roasted and then I had a car guest so in and this whole duck gave me stock roasted the bones I made stock. I had Duck brass one night. We had dot com for another night. And then I just have all of the duck fat which I put into like everything else that I made for the next three weeks and it was sort of like what gave is saying this way that you're pushed out of your comfort zone in your ordinary way of shopping where. I ended up buying something because it was what was available and good instead of what I thought I wanted to have and it was

Red Lake Nation election includes measure on marijuana

"The National Native News. I'm Antonio Gonzalez. The Red Lake Nation in Minnesota is holding an election. Wednesday citizens are being asked whether or not the tribal council should legalize the production regulation and distribution a medical marijuana. Voters will also pick four tribal council representatives. Absentee ballots are available in a video message. Monday chairman Darrell. Zeki informed the community in person voting will be held as the tribe is under covert nineteen emergency orders as a Monday. There were no positive cases of Cova. Nineteen on the reservation. The North Dakota Department of Transportation will be at five reservations this week to provide photo identification cards. Which can be used for voting the? Id's will be issued to North Dakota residents who do not have a driver's license or ID the non driver ID card is free to people. Eighteen and older and will be mailed to residents within five days. The first event is Tuesday on the Turtle Mountain reservation. The Transportation Department is asking people to take Cova nineteen precautions including wearing a mask. The events are being held as the states. At June primary nears the business arm of the Cherokee Nation announced plans Monday to address safety measures to Reopen Casinos. The plan includes enhanced cleaning temperature checks for employees and guests and the suspension of buffets and banquets the tribe operates ten entertainment destinations in Oklahoma. A date for reopening casinos was not announced but the tribal government has started a semi opening with more phases to reopen throughout the summer. Meanwhile a number of other tribes in Oklahoma have already opened their casinos with Cova nineteen safety precautions in Juneau Alaska. A weaver has created a piece of art to reflect Cova Nineteen. The cat weaving documents history and stories as owes Elizabeth Jenkins reports lily. Hope is a weaver. And she's been busy creating a commission. Chilcott blanket a process which can take upwards of two years but recently she made something else on a much tighter deadline at home after she learned about an opportunity to create art about. What's going on right now. In early April First American art magazine sent a call out for indigenous artists to create masks similar to the ones worn prevent the spread of Cova Nineteen. It was so intense to weave it on my floor with my children around me. Her piece is called. Chill cat protector. It's made from Merino Wool. And Cedar Bark Warp. To ermine tails grease the cheeks. The mask covers the nose and the mouth in their place are the distinct ovoid shapes of the chill cat face an expression. That's confident and reassuring. The Mask isn't something to be worn in the grocery store. It's a work of art. Reflective of survival hope says it also represents foundational thinking to clink it Haida and Simpson people and really like my aunt set at the best that the musk's serves to record that we took care of each other during this time. The pieces received an enthusiastic response online and hope proceed. Judge's Choice Award from first American art magazine and while she was happy her mask was recognized in the exhibition. She thinks the art world still has a ways to go until fully accepts. Chilcott weaving into the fold. A carved mask wins over the beadwork over the quilt work over the weaving. And I I love I American art for putting it into the world but I'm like that is the constant conversation. Men's work is fine art and recognized as best of show and women's work is still hustling to catch up. But she'll CAPRA. Tekere seems to be changing that. The Burke Museum in Seattle recently acquired it and hope says for the first time in her career. She's created a commission calendar for other museums. Which have shown interest in her weaving another Cova? Nineteen inspired mask. I'm Elizabeth Jenkins and demand. Tony Elkins all

Inside the strange world of designing psychoactive drugs

"I'm Jordan Heath Rawlings and this is the big story. Joe Bruni is a writer at the Walrus. I promise he is not tripping right now Joan I Jordan. Why don't you start by telling me what is pace and just tell me about the drug? Never heard of it before well paces essentially just water and the substance called Mea I which is the active ingredient an emmy. I is It's a new drug. It was created in two thousand fifteen And it was marketed last year as an alcohol. Substitute and Binge. Drinking litigator so essentially. It's an effort to replace alcohol with the substance that at certain doses has similar Or was simply saying better effects. And how would that actually work in practice like by better effects you get drunker oddest drunk no hangover? What so. This is difficult for me to imagine. Because I actually haven't tried substance myself right by the time I started working on the story it It was illegal but from what I've heard from people who have tried it. It's a stronger drunk. And it's a feeling that you're more in control You're not slurring your speech as You're not getting like the spins. You're not falling over and that's at certain doses And then of course there are people who have exceeded those doses and at that point they report effects that are similar to things. Like ecstasy and Indiana okay. So you mentioned that it's illegal but At what point did it become illegal because it was for sale right right So it's a little tricky. It was technically never legal for sale right. The Way Canadian drug was work and struggles in a lot of the world's Are there essentially just lists of banned substances so until substance is on that list? It's not illegal to have or to us. But in order to sell a psychoactive substance you Bam you have to go through all sorts of licensing and applications to submit kind of a laundry list of studies to prove that it's safe and things like that for pace none of that took place so it was really never legal for sale. And now it's since been added to the list of controlled substances So now it's is definitely illegal. So how does the process for creating something like that work like? Where did MEA I come from? So there's a bit of a historical precedent for MEA. I it's in this family of drugs called Amino Indians. And they were first synthesized in the seventies as a potential treatment for Parkinson's disease and that didn't pan out and the pharmaceutical cook community sort of lost interest in them decades later Along comes Ezekiel Golan. Who's an Israeli chemist Sort of a career drug discoverer And he becomes interested in I mean Indians and an emmy a specifically For it's sort of pleasant effects. Okay so tell me about our career drug discover who is Zeki Golan? And what's he done so Golan he's trained as a mathematician actually his PhD in that he worked for a time. It's more accurate to say. Could he consulted for a number of major pharmaceutical companies? But then he kind of went his own way and for about two decades now. He's been creating new drugs. And sort of licensing the patents to the more or against the less scrupulous people who then synthesize and sell them on the black market. Soglo has been doing this for a while now. He only recently settled in. Canada was featured in a few BBC documentaries back in what was kind of his heyday in the EU He had a lab in Amsterdam. So he's sort of this infamous figure in the world of underground designer drugs. Okay so you're GonNa have to explain something to me Like I'm that kid who barely scrape by and science. How does a guy like that go about making a new designer drug? Like what do you do so there are these computer programs? It's called Kevin from addicts software. It's essentially like a three d blueprint of the molecular structure. That you have on your screen and that you can alter and make adjustments to and then you can analyze these new structures eve created. You can get some idea of what their effects might be. And then once he has a blueprint that he feels his promising he would export that and send it to a lab elsewhere where the actual chemists would synthesize it and sent him back samples. And what does he do with the samples so what? He Does the samples is he. He takes them he test them on himself. He's a little more responsible than I'm probably making it sound. But he does test everything on himself. He he'll start from a very small dose and he'll ramp it up carefully serve recording any effects. He experiences an of course stopping at the first sign of of anything miss. What is the process? Let's let's say you know He. He sends off this molecule and he gets back the substance and he starts trying it and he thinks lake with Ma. I that he's onto something if he's not doing it for like pharmaceutical corporations that create new medicines. What's the purpose behind doing this? He can't sell it. What's the process behind China? Make it legal or capitalize on it. Glenn is the theory Libertarian Mindset. When it comes to drugs he believes that you know free free adults consenting adults should be able to try what they want And so that's I think. Part of what motivates his crusade almost is. He he's excited by substances and the ones he enjoys and he just wants to

Are we doing enough to prevent the spread of COVID-19?

"Joined by. Dr Ezekiel Emanuel former Obama. White House Health Policy Advisor. He's Vice Provost Global Initiatives University of Pennsylvania and Dr Peter Hotels Dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine Doctor Manual. When we start with you. Where do you see us right now? Are we doing enough in terms of large scale social disruption and changes to slow the transmission of this epidemic? So first of all. I've been saying for several weeks now that it's going to get worse before it gets better. Parsley it's GonNa get worse because we have testing. That's just going to show us how prevalent the illness is. It's also getting worse because we know we have more community acquired infections as I mentioned to someone today. You know one week ago. We weren't even talking about new Rochelle and now new. Rochelle is a major topic in New York. And that's a lockdown and if we focus on new Rochelle without thinking about all the other places that this virus is maybe Washington. Dc maybe the suburbs of Baltimore. Who knows where the problem is? We need a more systematic less uneven response. That has to be pretty uniform. Because just 'cause we're seeing it new Rochelle doesn't mean Rochelle's the only place in New York that Scott and that response does have to include things like much more prevalent testing so we really have a handle on who's got it and who doesn't and a really good model is South Korea if you look at their trends you can see that. They're beginning to bend in South Korea. We also do need to inform people. We use the term social distancing like everyone knows what it means. It's not immediately obvious to people what that entails and how much you need to be separate from people explain to what should people know about but a large part of it. You people have come up with all these numbers no more than one hundred people to meet no more. The issue is density. How close are you to people? How easy is it for the droplets to spread? How much are you sort of packed in light sardines or not and that real? I mean that's a physical thing That is really important and I do think we probably need to educate people to minimize the. They're our contact and to stay home more. You can go out where there's no one else if you're going walking in the woods or something or going to a place where there are other people But I do think Restricting how we move around is going to be important I will note that not every but most of the Ivy League schools now for example colleges mine included. We're going online. The second half of the semester is all going to be online. Students aren't going to be in. Dormitories accepts students. That can go back to their home country and still complete the semester. So you are seeing a lot of action. But it's not concerted and that's what it's not systematic and that's what's bothering me Dr Hotels. We've been checking with you throughout the unfolding of the goal pandemic and I'm curious. Are we learning more about the virus itself about the basics about the transmission rate? Which seems to be maybe lower than at first. We thought the fatality rate the incubation period. Where is our knowledge right now about this so the transmission rate still seems to be? Pretty High Dr Fao. She mentioned. It's probably a significantly higher than the influenza as well as the mortality rate. But the you know just to echo and reinforce some of the things zeke Doctor Emmanuel was was saying we've learned a few things from a recent analysis. My colleague Mark Lipchitz sit at Harvard School of Public Health Chan School of Public Health together with a student a doctoral student. Ruan Lee didn't analysis of the Chinese cities in terms of how severe the epidemic is with the extreme example being Wuhan rare nine thousand people wound up in and severely ill with two thousand in the ICU versus city. Like Long Joe where there was only twenty a big difference right and it looked like it's primarily to do to how quickly you got on top of things after sustained community transmission started. So they let it go for six weeks. Before they implemented aggressive control and testing whereas in Guangzhou were the only at twenty cases one week. What's the lesson learned from the United States We're now about three weeks into this in terms of sustained community transmission. We had our first case of community transmission around the end of April so subtract a week before then. So we're getting to the point where because we're not doing adequate diagnostic testing and implementing those very important control measures. That seek pointed out. We're in a situation. Where we could risk being closer to Wuhan and Guangzhou and and we do we. We can't be there so now is a very critical period over the next couple of weeks where we have to be very aggressive about closing down major venues. We just this Houston. Today with the Rodeo was a tough decision but was the right decision that we're going to have to do this all over the country right now and the reason is this because if we miss that opportunity we then have. Our new problem becomes surge capacity hospitals. Where we're not gonNA have enough beds. We're not GONNA have enough into ventilators. We don't want to go in that direction. So now's now czar. Big Schnauzer going to be our last chance. We've already missed that in over the last few weeks. Can I reemphasize something? Peter says which is so in the entire United States. We have about eight hundred thousand hospital beds a little under eight hundred thousand hospital beds. In the entire United States we have under seventy thousand adult intensive care unit. Beds we have about sixty five thousand ventilators with the strategic supply. I've heard that it goes up slightly under one hundred thousand. That's our maximum capacity in the country at the moment if you imagine that even two percent of the population gets the corona virus and we have about six percent who are seriously. Ill GonNa need a respirator. We've exhausted all that supply. Just for those patients. Forget the heart attack patients. Forget the patients who need it for any other reason and I think what Peter said is exactly right we probably have missed two or three turns over the last few weeks where we could have gotten things down and just focusing on the hot spots. Seattle New Rochelle. I think is not. We need a much more systematic countrywide approach so that we don't overwhelm the healthcare system. Which already you know doesn't have that much search capacity in it. Dr Hotels Final Point to you for people that are watching this I. I've struggled with this for the last three weeks right. Communicating in a way that does not induce catastrophe or panic but also is clear eyed about the risks. And I do think it's worth just going back to the distinction between your individual risk you random American one of three hundred thirty million that you will get very sick and need to be hospitalized or may as life threatening illnesses that individual risk for any given random person is probably low in the grand scheme of things and this systemic risk to the society and to the healthcare system which is extremely high at this moment. Is that a fair way of phrasing. It yeah absolutely and also remember. It's it's all about communicating. What our top priorities are in. This is what I've been disappointed about. We've lost a lot of time because of a blanket statements that are not backed by data saying this is contained. This is this is the cold. This is the flu when in fact we know that there are specific groups that are at high risk including older older individuals those with underlying disabilities and our healthcare workers. And so what I've been looking for is at the White House. Press briefings to say. Look these are four. Bit Concerns Right. These are three or four populations That were concerned about This is a why we need to get on top of this very quickly. And here's what we're doing about it and and historically the American people have responded very well to this They understood this three. Bola Zeka as we say. This is not our first Rodeo so so we know how to respond and we just need that clear kind of concise messaging right now. All right. Just had one thing to Chris. Point which is we also do know the ass for any individual. The risk is low except we do know that there are certain people and Peter Emphasize of those who are over sixty or sixty five those who have chronic illness. They are at high risk and what we have done in. This country is aggregate them in nursing homes. Those are most vulnerable people people in nursing and we really have to social distance. There reduced the number of visitors. Probably two zero. Make sure that people are counting up and taking a donning protective equipment so that we don't have that Patriot play just explode with corona virus like it did in Seattle because almost every one of them is really on the verge just like the cruise ships. Good Point -portant point Zeki Manual. Dr Peter Hotels. Thank you

"Did with football is back tonight but Zeki isn't and after hearing cowboys V._p.'s Stephen Jones message. He may not be back for Wild plus Baker Mayfield not afraid to call out his star receivers. Is this really a recipe for success with OPEC of junior and big expectations then a big mountain to climb for the Georgia bulldogs how can they finally did pass Bama's all coming your way this morning on e._S._P._N. And we welcome you here to New York City. city. I'm Laura religion. You Got Kevin Gandhi we got George Rogers here in studio and Dominique Foxworth breakdown football and guys. I WanNa let you know one hundred seventy nine days since the last That's N._F._L. Game we finally have more N._F._L. Action Tonight again with the Hall of Fame Game. Is everybody excited for some people time the hall of Fame Game and then we will that's an addict right there. The whole does still continue and for a Zeke Elliott's as the cowboys continue their preparations for the season Executive Vice President and Cowboys C._E._O. Steven Jones made it very clear in a radio interview that he would not be the one setting the market and this is what he said. We've got three really good football players that We're dealing with here and they have very good representation and they want to see the market. Stephen Jones said this on thirteen ten ticket. We can't push the issue unless we WANNA be Marcus arcus center and we're dancer not GonNa be a markets better because of all the things that go with being a Dallas Cowboy he went on to say we want to be fair. We want our players to feel good about their contract but at the same time we don't want to do things that are out of line because we can't afford to do that way whether it's whether it's Amari whether it's Zeke they all understand they've got a group of young players coming behind them that want to be Dallas cowboys and want to stay here. Stephen Jones continued when we save money whether it's with Dak whether it's with Zeke whether it's with Amari. It's not saving Jerry dollar. It's just money. That's going to save another foot going to go to another player. We're very convinced that we're going to get these these deals done so we welcome in our N._F._L. Insider Chris Mortensen to talk more about this and more what is the latest. You're hearing about the new deals for Zeke Dak.. Amari well. There's almost no activity on ZEKE ELLIOTT WHO's down in Kabul sank San Lucas staying in shape and enjoying the sun. There has his agent Rocky Arsenal. It has a place down there so it's convenient for him to go. He's been there before. He's come back in good shape before <hes> as far as the Mar Cooper goes remember. He was the fourth pick in the draft for the raiders leaders he's making he's GonNa make fourteen million dollars this year. He's content <hes> they have had to contract discussions but there's no urgency on Maurice part so I only use burdensome on the cowboys part <hes> and then Dak Prescott listen. It's his third year for both Zeke. Rumor Deg was a fourth round draft pick so this is a big discount off <hes>. I think that probably gets done before the other guys do they don't have to do it. Cause Remember <hes> you don't have to negotiate until after <hes> ah you can't negotiate. After the third year they go into a fourth year. They can play the kirk cousins games like the redskins did with with him but that did not end up with <hes> Kirk cousins finishing nations his career certainly in Washington. I think that gets done. I think Maury is cool <hes> until next year unless they want to go ahead and four dollars and the cowboys by the way <hes> <hes> with demarcus Lawrence they did set the market he became the highest paid player at his position so they will pay but they do have other defensive players to take care of that roster going forward and this is a super bowl caliber team yeah certainly messaging going on here through the media more. How long do you expect to hold out well? well. Here's what I've been told <hes>. It won't be urge until <hes> he's if he's not there two weeks before the season dentist it takes on a different urgency and I think he's prepared to do that..

"Right in there. Okay. Let me read you some stats. I've been doing some research about about Saturday's Rams Cowboys game. Who is the coach Mike Tomlin stats are for losers career? Well, yeah. But they still are instructive. Don't you think? I I actually don't believe that. But Mike Tomlin. Oh, my tunnel does. Okay. So here's some numbers. The Rams faced faced the leading rusher in the NFL Zeki Elliott cap the Rams allow a league worst five point five yards against the run. The Rams allowed the second worst quarterback rating on passes to running backs. Actually. In other words, teams are able to throw two running backs at a high rate when the Rams are on defense. Those three numbers. What do you make of him couple things? Where's the one place? The Rams didn't spend money. Linebacker who guards the running backs? So it may be a hole in their defense taekwondo Littleton. And Mark mariner the two men who's the guy who played took good against the chiefs. The the rookie with the with the weird name Samson Edicom. Yeah. They've actually been good. Yeah. Good. That's who who's in charge of stopping the run and of covering the linebackers are covering the running backs and come out the backfield. So there may be something to it. But I think you have to have as a ramps fan. You have to have a little bit of in. Wade we trust every game is different. The Cowboys were able to keep that's why I asked McVeigh about this yesterday when we had him on the Cowboys were able to keep the scored down against the saints, right? There are ways to keep the score somewhat manageable. Now, the Rams wanna shoot they want. They want they want points. Yeah. But I think Wade Phillips is going to blitz more. I think he's going to try different packages. I think he's going to throw stuff at the Cowboys that they haven't seen right? And the reason I think that is what does he have to lose? You just read all the facts, they're terrible. And they're not going to go out there with the same game yet. They gotta be they I think they've got a blitz less. Yeah. Maybe they played run yet. Maybe they play more linebackers or then DB's, maybe they re they put Johnny Johnson upfront Ripi they. You know, maybe they leave this is risky. But maybe they know John Johnson. Well enough to call him, Johnny. No J B called him. Okay. Got it. They I think if he's still know him well enough to call him, Johnny. Well, the Rams had had a defensive back named Johnny Johnson in the eight. Oh, okay. And but now this guy has been he has been really surprising. Good really good. So maybe you leave Peter's into Leib on an island and run those guys out to the line to try and stop the run Kate. Let me throw you. Another one Rams obviously have Todd Gurley coming back, and they've got C J Anderson to spell him at times and C J. Anderson was fantastic. And those last two games. Cowboys defense has allowed an average of three point eight yards per carry not worried about it because McVeigh is going to run a whole bunch of stuff. And if Jared Goff has to throw forty fifty times in this game. So be it. I think that you no longer, you know, that's an old NF. NFL adage that if you wanna win you have to establish the run it's a passing league. Now, you don't necessarily have to establish run which you have to do is you have to sprinkle in both runs and pass throw this at you. The Rams led the league with two hundred four throws off play action. Now, if you're not affectively running the ball, it's hard to get a defense to bite on play action. And by the way, if you can the Steelers twenty eighth in the league against Steelers cowboy I'm sorry. The Cowboys are twenty eighth in the league against play action passing..

"Like that is there has been the recipe to get into the postseason to get to your point Jenna, one of the reasons that we have taken Zeke as a given is he's been given right cinci at Ohio State. He was a given his rookie or he wins the rushing title last year. He rushes more yards per game than any player in the league on the reasons when the rushing title is this has spent this year he's he's yards per game. The best in the league again like Zeki Elliott is the best runner of the football in the NFL, and that's with a healthy or unhealthy offensive line. Who isn't a giving his quarterback Prescott? Uber. That up earlier before we go to break talk a little bit about how much pressure is on deck Prescott to pick up where we seventeen ended and a few games prior. Who is going to be a lot of push Prescott. Just because he is not won a playoff game. I know two years ago they had the number one seed in the NFC and they lost in the divisional round to the Green Bay Packers. So even though they're at home again in the postseason. They're going up against a head coach and quarterback combination that you have to say you trust more than the Dallas Cowboys have in place right now with Jason Garrett Prescott. So I mean, it's a situation where this going to be some pressure. Dak is going to feel the intensity of the playoffs, especially in this particular match where everybody is saying that you have a team from a talent standpoint that should be able to take care of the Seattle Seahawks at home. I hope someone told Dak this week to watch that playoff game against the Packers. 'cause he was extrordinary that was that was the capstone of his amazing rookie season. He went who. He was good in the second half of that. Okay. Okay. Happy line in the first half. The Cowboys often they had a double digit. Going into the second. That's kind of my point. He was down double digits in a playoff game against Aaron Rodgers. And they were they were there at the end. It took a fifty plus yard curving field goal to beat them. He was so good in the second half of that game. Remind act you can do this. I don't know that I believe it believe it you can do this in the biggest game of your life. You went toe to toe with Rogers almost played him to a draw that could maybe add the competency built on in that giant's game last week. Let's take a break coming up. Could the giants really move on from Odell Beckham. That's the rumor nobody loves a rumor more than I do. That's next on first. Showdown in Dallas has Russell Wilson the Seahawks. Take on Zeki Elliott and.

"He'll join us coming up in a moment. We've been talking about Pro Bowl snubs, paulie, making his case for Christian McCaffrey. But he doesn't deserve to be in their over the three in front of him. So is it really a snub? Christian McCaffrey hasn't. Missed a snap on offense for five consecutive games. He's now played in ninety seven point seven percent of Carolina's ofensive snaps this season in all in total. He's missed a total of twenty one snaps all season long for Carolina's offense. Day day that fast dad of the day. Dad comes that what stat of the day? I mean, it's impressive. I don't know what it means. If I'm gonna compare that to Zeki Elliot Todd Gurley and saquon Barkley could we find out the number of snaps that they missed I'm gonna guess girly has missed a few. But I don't know about Zeke, and I don't know about saquon Barkley, but mclovin, maybe you could get your best people on that. So we could put that in perspective. Yeah. We think zeke's out there every time isn't that? What people value in the draft guy complain three downs. Yeah. That's what you're looking for Wednesday night hockey the night where the stars come to play and the two Stanley Cup champions face off. Sidney Crosby in the pens. Take on Alex Alex Ovechkin and the capital's tonight eighties torn- on NBC. Couple of the things I watched the nets last night against the Lakers. You know, the the nets have confidence. There's something about him. When you watch him. And I don't know why they have it. Maybe they're being on this six game winning streak. But it, you know, the Lakers come to town. And that's a big deal when LeBron comes to town. And they just didn't seem like they were intimidated at all. And then you had the block on the LeBron dunk attempt. And I just I got the feeling that the nets were a better team by the time. They got to the second quarter. I was not going to be surprised if the nets won that game. And this is Laker team. That's what one in three on this road trip now heading back home. And you know, you know, everybody wants to have a referendum on the Lakers after every game. There wasn't anything that I took away other than I just want to know what Brandon Ingram future is there. And I want to know what pieces they're going to have to make this trade for Anthony Davis because it feels like or are they're going to be able to just. Fine him as a free agent. But I I've said this should be a cautionary tale. Don't trade anybody. If Anthony Davis is the guy you want you think you can get then. Okay. You load up for that. What are you going to give up? Are you going to be depleted by the time? You make a trade for Anthony Davis. If that's possible and Boston has more assets than you do in Boston..

"While you guys were there. Did you get any extra job offers? I didn't know I know No, he's his. speaking of offense of identity onto the Cowboys now after a five game win streak where the Cowboys appear to be doing everything. Right. They went to India and Sunday, and it would appear to be everything wrong held scoreless for the first time since two thousand three Cowboys are averages fourteen point seven points per game on the road this season tied for the fewest in the NFL along with the cardinals. But leave it to Zeki Elliott's find the silver lining after Sunday's loss. This was very much needed. I think it's it's better for us in grants game of the season. And I think we need to get putting check I think we need a reality. Check. I think that we need someone kind of reminded, you know, to sell a lot of ball left. And I mean, there's going to be giving we go out there and take everything. Let's take off what Zeke said stink. What could this team? Learn from the way they lost the game. Well, I think there's a lot of things that you look at when you lose a game. Like that just from the way you prepare the way you're ready. They have physically warn people out. And that's where they've won. They want line of scrimmage. They have physically warn people out over the last several weeks, you know, what they win. Now, they got worn out Indianapolis came in there. And I'm telling you Quinton Nelson. If he's not on very short list of office of rookie of the year. The you're just don't know what you're looking at because he hated the line of scrimmage. I mean, absolutely dominant scrimmage. They got up on the linebackers one thing they haven't been able to do against the Dow's defense, and we have the sound bite from Z, but that down defense is dominated up front and their linebackers run free. Yeah. It's just been tackling practice. Absolutely. They get tackles done a great job of holding making sure they react and take it. So the linebackers had space. A Bill to come down flow. Fast flow, hit whole comedown make tax line of scrimmage. I'm telling you what they absolutely mosh pit. I mean, they were just running through them getting to the second level getting on those linebackers, and you know, math had plenty of yards to go in there. I think a lot of thirty nine yards. But when you watch it they just got dominant. What they've done to everybody else dominate both lines of scrimmage. They went to Indy and they absolutely got throttled in that part of the game. And so everything you're saying's, obviously. Correct. The Cowboys lost to a team that for for a weekend took on the Cowboys identity. Andrew luck wasn't great was fine. He wasn't bad. But he was not asked to do much..

Kareem Hunt apologizes, says NFL never interviewed him about assault

"So Kareem hunt this week. Was released by the chiefs just days ago as a matter of fact, and it was because of the release into the TMZ. Obtaining, the interview or rather the video of an incident with Kareem hunt and a woman in a Cleveland hotel hallway in February. So the incident happened in February and it's clear as day. What happens? I mean, put your hands on a woman is to put it lightly and also then kicked her after the fact and the chiefs reacted pretty quickly once the video became public hawk and in part of ways with him. So Kareem hunt does the interview today with Lisa Saulters? And you heard him say what he said about his potential future in the National Football League. Well, Adam Schefter has report today is within the last ten minutes saying a number of NFL owners are quote, unquote, irate that the league's legal and investigations department. Did not interview Kareem hunt over that February incident. That's according to what sources are telling Adam Schefter. And that is what Kareem hunt himself told Lisa Saulters today. Question was did the league interview, you know? No. Did the league interview the woman in the video as well? No. So that story comes out today. And now the NFL owners for whom Commissioner Roger Goodell works are a handful of them are irate. That is the latest iteration of this story arc you can pick any aspect of this to jump in including whether or not cream on has a future in the NFL. I think he does it's not whether he deserves it or not, but willa team take a chance on a guy who's twenty three years old who will serve a six game suspension if and when he comes back once he's off the Commissioner's exempt list, I yeah, I think that guy will find a roster spot somewhere. Yeah. I don't think you're wrong and making making that assessment as far as the NFL and the owners being mad at the process. It's because there's there's no baseline for this. There's no consistency in how this works. We watched Zeki Elliott investigation unfold for weeks and months, and it was a very very long run are positive. I think the anger comes from its life. How do you make the determination of what you take? Seriously. What you look into what you give a thorough. Look. And what you don't. Right. So there's there's that. Now as far as the Kareem hunt situation, there can never be a world where it's okay for crimes or assault against the female. There has to be a precedent set where it's like, oh, this this doesn't fly. I commend the chiefs on making that determination as fast as they did given from what I from what I have been told is the situation that that was all new information to them. But again that has to be something that is we league wide. And again, we have to be consistent with this instead of precedent that look this is what will not

"Let's go. How about Zeki Elliott and the Cowboys they are a seven and a half point underdog tonight, drew Brees and company or averaging over thirty seven points per game. And I've won ten in a row. The Cowboys of looked pretty good lately. They've won three straight Zeke has rushed for over one hundred yards in each of those games. But the saints have the number one rushing defense in the NFL or joined by f s one NFL analyst James Harrison and James yesterday. I remember this correctly you pick the saints. So big will they win by? If it was that big at least fourteen. He's team. Go twenty one twenty one. I'm not gonna totally just less. But at least four to between fourteen seventeen you gotta look at it. What the saints averaging about thirty eight a game. The what nineteen twenty maybe twenty one tops. Saints also have good rushing defense. So you put in the Russian defense against a rushing offense. Got a quarterback ain't really get it to where to go just had another. So. Doc is watching because they might have time to watch this more. I got to play in this. I won't say it is golden Jay. Harris just said that cannot throw. Thank you, accuracy. He's not accurate says James. Talking about James Harrison laid against him. Man. Right. Did I play against him? I thought you did. Game. I played in that game. They win a. Yeah. Zeki head on the goal post at the end of the fourth and one. James jones. The lab back from Jordan. We did they face across Escobar. Yeah. I don't know if I was planning again, I might have been when they were sitting on the sideline. No, you would get your hair across all the way, by the way that was the game after which Tony Romo in the locker room the vistors locker room when up to Stephen Jones who obviously helps run the Cowboys in said, do you know, how hard it is to do what Dak did in that game against that defense. That's what he said. And that's when he conceded Marie conceded. The job to Prescott Tony Romo said that go ahead. I know you got so much talk about go ahead. Go ahead. Go ahead. No. I can't throw little I'm done. I'm easiest simple. You look at the numbers. Thrashers place spread you want me to go real big go Honey one and say bed it, and I'll be like, no, I am. But I wanted you to go forty eight to seven because that's what his eagles loss to the saints excuse eight to seven you understand that how big fourteen point is to a home team home home team. Now, they're on the road here with a quarterback who can't throw lick that. He he says he suffers from accuracy address knows that what he say. I heard you can't. Said he can't throw in say because he's Niagara. Okay. Thank you, insist that right? That's on the tape. Right. I like you said last week that throw that he made the Mark Mark Cooper may great catches on. I did. I said I didn't love the way my team played last Thursday on thanksgiving. I wasn't that did not come in your say where you here. I know you're gone. I came running in the next I said, I was not that impressed at I tell you. My team has taken off yet might disbarred. Yeah. That's fascinating. That's it. So what do you think you're going to go up on your older had some time thirty three? That's all. That's it. Really? That'd be like a moral victory. The you don't get credit for those right? And. That's it. About real my restaurant. I closed it down for the last couple of weeks. I think the health department closed. Oh. Over over tobacco up. Like didn't you have beef yesterday? Yes. Oh ran by fifteen more. But they ran by shoulder. Her shoulder doing doing eighty pounds dumbbell? We got excuses Tuesday. Ex Dr go ahead. Go up on just go have the courage of your convictions. I have some guts say I wanna hear. Eighteen tell me the Cowboys are garbage. And then you say it's going to be a ten point. Do you understand poor team hot as you say the Cowboys are I don't think that once at home you say that Zeke Elliott run the ball one hundred fifty two..

Others persuaded American Olympic athlete Jesse Owens to wear their shoes in the nineteen thirty six Berlin Olympics. He did and he won four gold medals while doing so yet it wasn't quite the triumph. It should have been for the brothers. As things were beginning to sour between the two the bad blooded started a few years earlier in nineteen thirty three when Addy's sixteen year old wife tried to interfere in the business Rudy was not pleased. It didn't help that audience and Rudy's families live together in the same town, home and their wives didn't really get along. But the breaking point came during a World War Two air raid Rudy and his family were tucked into a bomb shelter and as audience family entered Audi said, the dirty bastards are back again. He was purportedly commenting on the Royal airforce planes roaring overhead but Rudy was positive. Audie was referring to his family from there things quickly unraveled when Rudy was called up to serve in the Nazi military in nineteen forty three. "Oh ZipRecruiter, the smartest way to hire bring it on home here with a few more games and the Texans are now the state champs of Texas after winning nineteen sixteen over the Cowboys in overtime, the Cowboys. It's a one man band. It's Zeki Elliott who had fifteen point four fantasy points, but defined. He got dinged, late late in the game. He did. Did you see him? I mean, he was limping limping and you know, struggling to stay out there, but this is what's going to happen when you exp-. They exposure is so high because he's getting such a high percentage of the volume of work averaging twenty three touches per game, and granted his consecutive games with over ten points pass catcher. So whether he's running the ball or catching the passes, we've said this before in the. Cast a hundred million times. He is the lone focal point of the offense for fantasy purposes. Even for reality football purposes. He really, he really is the guy that they have to rely on. And earlier this week, Jerry Jones said he was banged up. Zeke said he was fine. His legs were fresh Archer reported that, but there's no doubt that you're gonna increase your exposure taken hits all the time. How high could Alfred blue climb in the running back rankings for weeks? Six, Mike, twenty five play. Yeah, definitely. Twenty carries eight targets in this game. If he's the lead guy, there's no question. We have to rank him as an Rb to because that's just massive volume it again, I said a million times, nothing is more important than volume, especially for running back. So no question this. I don't know. Lamar Miller is far from turning, so you've got potentially Lamar Miller and offered blue this week and down to form an potentially back into makes the following week. So just something to keep in mind I'll blue might be better than Lamar Miller, which is something keep an eye on. I think he has. He passing. You can't dictate the terms of that relationship and that was going to be the case no matter who she ended up with. I think I think Tobin recognized that maybe better than Zeki did. Yeah. And maybe that is something that is sort of a side effect of. She talked about her relationship with Ed when she had a heart to heart about Daryl, and maybe that's the side effects. She doesn't let anybody get too close now, and I think that's very understandable. It's very on brand for Carol, but I think there's genuine affection their like she clearly seems to really have something there with Zeki. They lived together, they're raising a child together, but just because he can't totally seal the deal. I think he shouldn't. You'll bad about that. Like that's going to take some work. Would that make Carol Queen Carole wondered about that same thing I have to imagine it does. Yeah. Leaned. She's like the Queen consort, at least. I want to go back to Maggie and Rick and that conversation that ended the episode and Maggie is a telling Rick about how you know. Basically, this wasn't the end of the episode of the last time that Maggie and Rick spoken the episode and she tells him like, this is how it's gonna be from now on. Okay. You know, you're gonna follow me. This is not a good look for Maggie. I see where it's coming from and I see what she's trying to do here, but she's really showing this kind of this big show of force right after a one guy that's been her chief opposition. She's had that guy killed in. It's really never a good look to take your main voice of opposition and have that guy killed. I mean, he had it coming, but it still like what are people going to think about their leader kind of washing this voice guy that tried to overthrow her. She's just going to wash him and now she's got a much stronger ruling ham, butt ruling by fear is really hard to do, and I think she's going to have some trouble with yet. It is hard to do. It doesn't really seem like that. That was the issue where if there was a lot of people that seem unhappy, Gregory was trying to stir up these feelings, but do you feel like that there was sort of. Like widespread angst in the hilltop about maggie's leadership. I'm not sure that people have a problem with maggie's leadership per se. I mean, they voted her in people have voiced some concern about it, but they also realized that voting for the alternative was not going to get them where they wanted to be. But Gregory did seem to be a sort of like a held in a high regard, at least following the election, which is weird because I thought that they kind of unanimously kick that guy.

"He's second league in rushing. Why he's doing eight a pop against the Seahawks at NC hawks. Apathy hawks, come on, be smart. Listen, the Dallas Cowboys need to give Zeki leli, Dan football. That's what they need to do more than anything. They need to give him the ball. He hasn't had more than eighteen carries in the game this season. That's just utterly ridiculous. It's flat out stupid. You gotta get Zeki Elliott. The ball. This is what just excess is predicated on you. Gotta make that happen. It's just that simple. Appreciate the call, man. Thank you. Let's go to Glen, you lava. Stephen talked to me glint saving. I'm good. What's up? I'd like to respond back to your question when you kinda broached you know, who's the Lakers add to the to the stack of folks and moving ahead. I think I would pick assuming that quite Leonard is what he was before. He got earth. Okay, I would take quite and the reason I would take him over Kevin Durant is he wa- he he's a real two way player. He plays great defense. He's also a score. He's relatively young. Now if in fact and we'll see it in Toronto, we'll see if the season if he's in fact not one hundred percent when he comes back. Well, we got obviously then obviously you take Kevin Durant. I got it. We're going on the assumption that he is what he used to be. I got news for you. Co wildland was never the scorer that Kevin Durant is and be Kevin Durant. Is elevated his level of defensive players, so I can't agree with you there. Well, the only the only thing I'd push back a little bit is Kevin Durant celebrated his defensive capability, but he's not the same level as what quite wanted defensive player of the year. Why you also gotta remember koala and it was accepted the most toughest defensive assignment every day night in and night out from open tap. That is true without question. But also let's keep in mind that whether it's Tony Parker monitor, nobody, Tim Duncan or anything in between what you have are also savvy veterans who really, really knew how to play the game basketball, but didn't have the fresh legs that Kawhi Leonard had. So he had to accept that responsibility is just he's more than capable of doing. So now you comparing him to somebody who's really elevated his level of play. So on the defensive end of the floor and who has always been elite and prolific offensive -ly. So when you look at it from that perspective, that's where I go to k. d. route because k. On the offensive side or the floor is just another level Kawai Leonard can ball, no question. He's big time. He's a star in this league, no doubt, but Kawhi Leonard really, really has a problem wanting it offense. And I don't think that's a problem with Kevin Durant right now. Okay. I think that's fair, but by the way, just a mecca. What the last couple of callers. I really enjoy your show in appreciate the. Appreciate the broadcast very much. Thank you so much. I appreciate it. Thank you so much. Glen, really, really appreciate that. Let's go to Tommy. You lava Stephen, go ahead. Tommy. How are you going to be how you doing? I'm gonna talk to me where thing I wanna tell you about pre Shaked every morning on I take. I gotta say, thank you man. I think it I'm Barbara too, so I can tell you headline, please ain't no help for me, man, I got a. The only hope that's left me is here club for men or reaching out to my man primetime Santa's to find out who the hell he's use it. That's about it. Other than that, bro. Ain't nothing you can. I don't listen. I'm still not bad. I ain't got Zillow, but, but but but they know, hopefully hairline, bro. It's going. All right. Well, I just saw Paul on one there. Yes, he watch. It's been a lot of talk about Jalen hurts over to a two over day then and all that. Right, right. My thing was, I think it was a lot of pressure being brought on Jalen because of their national championship game. Okay. After that game, you got smart. He's the mirror image of of Nick Sabin. Okay. So you got curving knowing everything about Alabama, football, eight in the bunch. You cannot run the ball Scott right there. So it's not right there..

"Also look how many tests they scored on defense. They scored a Cup. But that's, that's the kind of hidden. You get on defense and you got a quarterback Zeki. Well, nosy, get credit for those me out. That's here. Way right team. If the team was the Jags wit. He's an practice. Blake, Bortles throws a lot of interceptions so he gives his, he gives us defense reps. So in preschool. Hands. Good. And then when he gets good over the course regular season that now he's firing on, also defense backs can catch. Got it. That's how you do your preseason practice to get them ready? Exactly. Oh, okay. Okay. Here's a good question. Teed, Tom Brady make Bob Kraft, make Bill bell trae grapple though. Nobody makes Bill Belichick do anything except for this one time. Roger Goodell made him said, I'll tell you what, what makes somebody do something your play, who you're play? Okay. So if you have exceptional plan, you're not falling off. Like a lot of people expect when you turn forty or thirty nine or forty one when you're the, but that's a Super Bowl right league MVP rate do, then you kinda like we can't push this kid to the side right now. He's not falling off. Okay. So you talk to them all time like he the the ballot check. Why Bella check is the best coach in the NFL is that he always, let's guys go a year before they maybe three years, right? Three years like me anymore. Do you think is Brady going to be the exception? Is he going to let the has exception, but he's going to let them get bad before he give him, is he going to change his ways for Tom Brady? I don't think Brady's gonna. Let itself get bad before that happens. I think he'll walk away before he becomes an average to below average or bad quarterback. I think he'll walk away. I think it's the toughest thing in football as a coach slash GM to be able to evaluate talent know when it's time to move on or move on right before that player starts to go downward. And I think Bella tech is the best at doing that. Well, I mean, not always right. Let me tell Jones did lead the league in sacks last year, right? So he's still a real valuable player. But when it comes to that position it such a huge shortage of elite. Great. And I only use those words with certain with certain quarterbacks, elite great quarterbacks that you have to hang. On. And why would you move on from those guys? Why would you move from breeze? We, we were there any hard feelings when you left pissed off, you're always pissed you cut. We had something called a go sheer that, hey, a ghost here somewhere. You gonna make an extra astronomical amount of money, right? It's not a real year. It's meant for us to tear up the contract and and do a new deal. And then they tore it up and said, whoa, wasn't having that anyway. It wasn't a real. It wasn't a real year twenty years so that reporters can tell agents can tell reporters, hey, I got this guy eighty million dollars over five years over one year is like something crazy. What was that conversation like? Bill, hey, look, you're no, we didn't have. We didn't. We didn't have when I have my my conversation was with a Skop Yolly you knows the GM at the time had that title, and he's, you know, sometimes players gotta take cuts and do certain things, the sacrifice if they wanna stay places. And I was pretty much like he's, you know, he told me he did it. You know. You know, I sacrifice tasks that yet, but you can do your job for forty years. I can't hit run into people. So we had a, we had, we had a great understanding and they told me that they wanted me to be there. The conversations didn't happen the way they were supposed to happen and I couldn't sit around, you know, had to go out and and and see what was else out there. When once other teams found out that we didn't have a Dylan place or we were not negotiating deal start to come through the door like wildfire. And the first place I went was Cleveland where Romeo was the head coach, a new, the defense inside out. The transition was easy to great football city. They need leadership..

"Now, Zeki Elliott is gearing up for a full season of play on like last year when aunt service six game suspension starting in week, ten despite missing that time, he still rushed for nearly a thousand yards. Seven touchdowns cowboy CEO. Steven Jones is all in on the in the short term. He wants to be one of the great ones to play the game, and he's a hardworking guy who knows what it takes. And he's, you know, it's a process and I think he continues to mature. And as Jason said, he's taken a leadership role now and you know, expect him to really step up and have a great year this year. I see. What do you think Zeki Elliot can improve onto due to that to be one of the great ones to play this game will the what you judge running backs in. This era is very, very different because you can't be one dimensional m be a great back. We just don't see people say, well, you have Leonard for net. He had one season. We'll see where that goes as far as career. But when you look at l. bell when you look at Todd Gurley, these guys are three down backs. They catch the ball out of the backfield substantially better than than than than Zeke does. So that's what he's got to build to work on. And that's as being a pass catcher in that could be one of the hidden gems to their lack of dominant wide receivers. How do we get Zeke involved in the passing attack? Believe that this will be his career highs far as targets career highs far as yards career care highs far as catches because that's something that they have not tapped into, and it's something the NFL does not. Have a book on Zeke. So he is a great runner of the football, and I expect a lot like his third season at Ohio State where he dominated the big ten dominated the big ten championship and the college football playoff Obama Oregon over two hundred yards. Rushing in both of those games. I expect tremendous things in the only reason why we weren't talking about this was because of the setback that he had last year end. The discussion was all these off the field allegations now. 'cause no one can question is work ethic. No one can question his ability and he loves to play football. So I agree with Steven Steven Jones. They know what they draft Mike, and he is going to be a great football player. And this is just the beginning. I'm glad you brought up his third year at Ohio State because people, I think just think about it in totality. I was watching a clip just the other day, three minutes left college football, semi final Ohio State only up sick. Six and what is eat, do seventy five yards straight through the entire Alabama defense to beat Alabama team. Everyone thought was going to go on to win the championship. He's been a special guy throughout every phase of his football career. Guess the one thing like you mentioned the pass catching. So I thought back to the moment when Alvin Kamara was here and you talking Dow Kamara off the air about the stem of his route and not bananas the route is I think the terminology you used in my mind's eye. When I think of big plays, Zeke has made out of the backfield as a pass catcher. It's swing passes. It screen passes. It's not the types of things where you're talking about with Kamara where lining up in the slot, whereas lining up as receiver and going out and doing that. How hard are those skills going to be for him to develop as far as just the route running component? It's not that because he's the type of athletes, great athlete..

Fifteen that the patriots didn't win the division and that eleven and five season is the only time in. The history of the National Football League that a coach led his team to the. A longtime assistant and head coach Tony spurlock Meanwhile in Canada Johnny Manziel has been traded can't play for the Hamilton tiger cats can't get on the field so they have traded him to the Montreal Alouette according to a TSN and reunites him with a familiar face Mike Sherman coach Manzella Texas a. and m. during his redshirt freshman season of two thousand eleven that was sherman's final season coaching the aggies I don't follow a ton of CFL football but the Alouette severity tried three different quarterbacks they have the worst offense in the l. so maybe Menzel is actually going to get a chance to, play that chance did, not exist with the Hamilton tiger, cats Johnny Manziel is. In Montreal and you're hearing time and again about, you know. What are the big issues between players and owners in the NFL is players one, guaranteed, money Owners aren't willing to give, it to them But they can look no further than the second pick in this year's draft saquon Barkley the New York Giants according to NFL media's Ian Rapoport are. Set to sign Barclay to his. Rookie deal that'll pay him thirty one point two million. Dollars guaranteed a four year deal fully guaranteed now rookies obviously have a lot less wiggle. Room than they did pre two thousand eleven the new CBA basically dictates with these guys are going to get the deal comes with, signing bonus of just over twenty million dollars and there's apparently, offset language that will keep Barclay from quote double dipping in the event of the giants. Cut him before the end of the contract and also it's worth pointing out that New York holds, the fifth an option for a fifth year which, is the case for all first round picks but it goes to show an Zeki l. fully. Guaranteed deal from the Dallas Cowboys didn't. Payments much money didn't go. As early in the draft. Is partly did there's a sticking point there Players and. Owners players want more guaranteed money owners don't want to give it to him but anecdotally they can Kirk cousins free agent Minnesota fully,.
