And you know, Jalen hurts has become an extremely impressive NFL quarterback. Yeah, I mean, I think that's one of the best things about the league this year, actually, is the, you know, I think you kind of talked about this a little bit at the maybe the last podcast, but or maybe the mid season, but the league is dependent on quality quarterbacking. We all want to see it in a sense other than having our own teams have a decent quarterback. We almost don't care. Which teams have it. And Jalen hurts moving up into that kind of elite here. Trevor Lawrence taking a big step, even Daniel Jones taking a step up. I mean, all of this is very positive for the game.

The thing about dak Prescott that drives me crazy is that every single year and this was true before, I think before he got hurt, he was the most efficient quarterback in the NFL over his stretch with Kellen Moore, I think, in games that he's played with him, exclusively, he's been like the second or third best quarterback in football. Consistently. That's like the Ben Baldwin like completion percentage over expectation and expected points added per down metric that I think is pretty good. I mean, it's not perfect, but it's okay. Like I think an L over elevates Kirk Cousins. And maybe it over elevates stack a little bit, but I think we would both put dak right in a different category than Kirk Cousins. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, I can see it. My dislikes of this team certainly the imagery is on the offensive line. I think the wide receiver core is a little bit thin. And I think this is maybe the last dusty old year of Zeke Elliott. I mean, I think, you know, next year he's like a Melvin Gordon kind of second down back if he needed to or maybe he'll have a Second Life as like a punt gunner. I don't know. But you know, I don't see him as being as much of a factor. I predicted at the beginning of the season that they were going to kind of quietly pivot to Tony Pollard. I don't know what you think about that. I could see that. And we'll have to have someone on who can speak about this more intelligently than I can, but Zeke seems to be really good. I call them Zeke because we're so close. Since I hang out with Joe burrow or vacation, I've also gotten really close with Zeke Elliott. Ezekiel Elliott is really good at the little things.

"And it just seems that that's the way it is. And I understand it. It's not a criticism, but people who ask questions and write articles, they tend to focus more on the things that teams aren't doing as opposed to what they are doing. And so they all have their flaws. But so whether or not they're compelling, if you're rooting for the jets or you're rooting for the Giants and they're not winning games, no matter how compelling those games might be. I don't think at the end of the day with a loss, they feel much better about it. Right. Absolutely. Since you mentioned Dallas, you're there in Dallas from obviously Hall of Fame cowboy quarterback. Can the cowboys make a run in the postseason? Do you think I guess there's some blowback right now about the way Jack Prescott is playing? What do you think about Dallas in the postseason? Yeah, I still think Dallas has a chance. I think they're like a lot of teams right now that are better doing some good things and yet not playing it as well as what maybe they feel that they can and I think the encouraging thing for Dallas. If you're someone who looks at it as a glass half full type guy, they say, wow, this defense is playing a lot better than anyone would have anticipated coming into the season and it's hard to imagine that dak won't get it going in the offense won't get back to doing some of the things that they were doing prior to his calf injury. And so from that perspective, you'd say, wow, this boat's pretty well. If you're a glass half empty guy, you're concerned with the struggles of Prescott knowing that you've got to have better quarterback play if you're going to ultimately achieve what you hoped to. But I do like this team. I like the players they have. They've got a lot of weapons on offense. I think they just need to get healthy. I'm not certain. I don't know that he's not, but I'm just not certain based on what I've seen of him. I don't know that dak is really all that healthy. It seems like he's playing through some things. And if not, he certainly not playing with as much confidence as he once was. But I think if he's if he does need to get healthy and he's able to do that along with Zeke Elliott, I think they've got a chance to go as far as they want. I mean, they can play with anybody when they're playing well. They've proven that. And I think there's way too much football left in this regular season to even start to try to figure out who's going to be playing well once we get into January. Right. So many injuries that'll happen unfortunately. Not to go through here. You know, it's funny. We talk about some of the teams here with the bucks and packers and cowboys. You cause a little bit of a stir a couple of weeks ago, I guess you did an interview where you said you talk about the rams and so that you don't think super teams in the NFL work and I saw that get a lot of headlines and I guess the main rebuttal to that that people had were last year's bucks. Now, I don't think last year's bucks were super team, but I'll give you a chance to maybe expound on that and if what your theory is there about the rams and super teams..

But i just could not put anybody I didn't think it would be appropriate to put any from defense on a on on the good list after an overall performance like that and i feel the same way about antonio gibson but when you cough it up. And by the way he dropped two balls and also had another fumble at abounds. But i actually thought he was. You know he he along with heineke really were the guys that gave him a chance and he showed the flashes and the production that lead all of us. I think to believe that he's going to be a really good player. But you know you you've got to mention this that's a big fumble and he had two of 'em last year you had one against the browns and the giants that were very impactful so he's got to learn. You know how to protect the ball. But i'm only fumbled last year. They were the only two fumbles last year but he had a couple of drops in eight a couple of baubles. You know that weren't registered. His fumbles because i went back and looked at my notes from from gibson last year. The he he. I'm not saying that he's you know. What zeke elliott was last year. but he's had some big cough ups. And i would ask you on the play that he fumbled on. Should he bounce that or should he have turned that up. Sooner could hit it up sooner. I think.

You cannot have a successful team if your management is just not right and making crazy decisions and not football decisions. You can add missed. Whoever it is to do what they're supposed to do their job and make good decisions businesswise for the team every day. And you're not doing the same thing. Don't work that way starts at the top and you you say about teams they want. Because you've got a thousand yard rushing quarterback who is trying to elevate his play from the pocket and extending do both. You don't ever want to take you. Don't want to coach that ability to make huge plays out of lamar jackson. But now you start to look around and you say okay. Is he going to psychologically feel more pressure have to do more l. as if he doesn't do enough already and all that devaluing of running backs the we seem to do in the league. I got news for you. How are you going to defend now less to worry about in the run game with the interior. So the trade for bradley roby to the saints from texas is now official So what we learned yesterday is that the texans are going to be taking roby salary and turning most of it into a seven point six million dollars signing bonus on top of that. The texans are receiving a third round. Pick this year and in twenty twenty three a conditional sixth round pick. Is this fair enough compensation. I think the texans went now third row now history maybe not. I would hope. I if you would've told me they were getting a third round. Pick for bradley roby knowing that. This team's not winning. If bradley roby's here they're not going to win. Five more games on defense. Because he's not with him here then if he leaves he's a good player. It's a big time matchup to open up the season and Brady Dak Prescott, you know, one of his top offensive lineman is now out. Is that what they're doing? Football raised banners? Yeah, believe it or not. Okay, um, four time all pro. It's it's a bit concerning. Yeah, if you don't have one of your best offensive lineman, not only in the ground game it to take some pressure off of back with Zeke Elliott and those guys, but Also just protecting Dac in general. I mean, we we keep hearing whether it's whether it's his lower body where shoulder which seems to have been the concern, at least throughout training camp and preseason. Well, either way, I don't think you want him running for his life, and I don't think you want to taking any unnecessary hits, especially to start off the season and knowing what he's going up against in a defensive front that Granted, they can't city chiefs offensive line was banged up, but still they had dudes running for their life. Patch Mahomes in particular, so I'm not sure you necessarily want to start off week one. After you signed back to this huge contract, do not have one of your better offensive lineman, and I'll be able to protect them the way you need to. So this puts the Dallas Cowboys offense and kind of a tough spot, in my opinion, compared to where I think you're looking at and where they would have been otherwise. And just to be clear. It's because he's on the Covid 19 list I had. I didn't I didn't clarify that He's on the Covid 19 list. Apparently, he is vaccinated. But because of the return to play protocols, he will not be back and cleared in time to be a part of this game. Crazy. Yeah, listen, I I look at it this way. This is more so hit on. The run game, right? It's an interior lineman. It's a guard. Uh, his right guard. That is significant to Ezekiel Elliott getting going. Uh, getting established, They're going to have to figure out how to spread this game out and not played in a box. I always tell people I said, there's it's interesting. I think your biggest concern is going to be those guys coming off of the edges for this Tampa Bay Buccaneer team, so if they're able to hold up On the outsides. I would take a better chance on feeling good about not having Zach as good as he is. Rather than not have one of those booking one of those those anchored, uh, tackles on on on the field. Dallas Cowboys Offensive Line In Flux Due To Injuries
"Have lots of talk about as it relates the cowboys I just what I think of this team this year and the expectations after Jerry Jones finally made the gutting decision that led to Jason Garrett showing up the building every day with a binder underneath his arm and dutifully hoping that he would. Get a stay of execution cowboy fan celebrated not only the draft pick a CD lamb but a coach was skins. Mike McCarthy hasn't exactly translated into the season that they had hoped for, and we're expecting some of it has to do with injuries bobby and we'll get to those in a second but a lot of teams are having to deal with injuries this year. Yeah. I, mean, the team the cowboys have up here the browns they've got a lot of injuries to deal with I. Mean The seahawks had you know a lot of patchwork stuff that they were doing last Sunday against the cowboys and so injuries are an excuse they're not necessarily a good excuse though for this cowboys team I think they, they definitely are missing some guys. They probably feel a little bit like we're not gonNA know who we are for real until probably mid October when randy gets reinstated fully you get hopefully late and vander aeschbacher. Corner start getting healthy so. It may be a situation where the cowboys are kind of you know we're GONNA fight and we're GONNA get as best we can until we get healthy and that's not necessarily an excuse that they're giving. It's just this is the way it's gotta be, and we kind of make do a little bit because they are decimated in the secondary. They've had issues at linebacker they've you know had the issues along the offensive line they lost jar when they're starting tight end and So I, mean they've definitely. Had those issues the thing that they don't want. You, you can't really do anything about injuries. You just adapt as best. You can the thing they don't want his they can't have. Three drops and you know two and a half yards per touch from Zeke Elliott. They can't have Jalen Smith missing tackles consistently and still be sixty million dollar guy they can't have. Dak Prescott turning the ball over. They need to have him protecting the ball. They can't have you know some of these. Occasional Amari Cooper focus drops. You expect injuries you deal with those. What you can have is all of that and then along in the secondary, you can't have guys just making really low I q reads and busted covered just stuff that doesn't seem to be a factor of trying to learn a new defense. This just seems like flat out low I q stuff of not recognizing who's assignment is who's You know I think back to Jalen Smith's comment to a about. Throwing it out through a little bit. Maybe they need to simplify the playbook if our fans aren't familiar with that one, let's play that one real quick. People, find beams the defense could innocent the group. Absolutely. Absolutely. I. Believe. Allowing more allowing US more opportunities to Hound in on what? We're actually going to run in in our game plan. I believe it's important. Reports coming on profootballtalk reported over the weekend that Zeke Elliott is headed out of the country potentially this week which is curious considering the cowboys training camp this week I mean that's low bold but yeah man I mean if Zeke's not there and that's look it would suck and let me clear nobody wants us but it would be interesting that that's what I'll say it would not at all be desirable it would not at all be preferred but it would be interesting because Zeke not being there would cast a shadow over for the entire camp that you know a lot of guys not being there would not really be missed to to just put it one way but Zeke Elliott not being there there. Would you would feel that and if he wasn't there I mean who's who's your rb one. I mean honestly who who's starting running back for the Dallas cowboys. Dallas Cowboys star to pay for funeral of teen football phenom
"Zeke Elliott Ezekiel Elliott Dallas Cowboys running back. He does a lot of good. And and it goes unnoticed largely another story is really just starting to get out last couple of days. I haven't heard a whole bunch about it. He he's gonna pay for the funeral expenses of a young man in eighth grade football player who was shot and killed near Saint Louis last weekend. Fourteen year old boy the name of Jalen MacKenzie struck by a stray bullet while attending a party died shortly after an area hospital. And the fifteen year old girl was also hit is in critical condition. His mother was asked about how she felt about Elliott reaching out to her and offering to pay for her son's funeral and she broke into tears. I'm sure she says she so grateful to the people in the community and the world and a country who have reached out. Zeke's kindness is no surprise to the Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett was asked about this. He said Zeke is really a special guy. He's a great football player, obviously. But he's really good person. That doesn't surprise me one bit. I think he's just very generous. He's got a great spirit around back. I mean, all these guys a lot of these guys go above and beyond. And it's exactly the opposite of what you hear so much about the the pro football players trouble, for slapping, their wives around and so forth. Always a few bad eggs. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
