"Hope you guys had a good weekend fun weekend of watching the return of the NBA because obviously, if you listened to my last podcast, if you've been watching TV, you know the NBA is back. So hopefully, you guys had a good weekend Thanks for tuning into to today's show. Let's go ahead and break down what today's show is going to have for you guys a start out by talking about Zion Williamson, the New Orleans, Pelicans how they've played so far if you. Haven't been listening to me. You know they were my pick to make that eight spot in the western conference. So I'M GONNA. Talk about that team going forward and what I've seen so far. I also wanted to discuss the Los Angeles Lakers are they somewhat struggling early in these seating games I'm going to break down there couple of seating game so far tell you guys if I do in fact think they are struggling early then I wanna pivot and talk about the Indiana Pacers. They're playing very well right now in there. I believe they've only had one seating game so far but you know they're playing very well and their Guy Victor. All depot has made a return someone to talk about that and then make sure you guys stick around into my very last segment because I'm going to talk about the Eastern Conference and who I think will make it out of the Eastern Conference who has the best chance to make it out of that conference. Don't miss that segment at the very end but like I said, I. Want to talk about start out by talking about Zaylon Williamson the New Orleans Pelicans Zaylon. Obviously we know him as somewhat the next face of the NBA the next face of the League you know he's some people's rookie of the year even I and he's he's going to be on the cover of two K twenty one, the next video game about the NBA he's going to be on the cover of that next game and I want to get he has played a total of nineteen now twenty one. Games in the NBA in in all of those things like I said, arguably some people are saying he's the next face. He some people are saying he's you should be the rookie of the year. He's on the cover of two K. and he has played no more than twenty. One Professional Basketball Games in his career? The NBA created the this this seating tournament that the Games in the possible playing tournament enlarge favor in my opinion to the Pelicans. Okay they gave the Pelicans is somewhat easy. I don't think it's really someone a an easy seating game schedule and they also gave them extra chances are giving them extra chances to make the playoffs with the play in tournament that we're going to see. So they're giving him all of the windows, all the opportunities that they need to make the playoffs that they put Zion in the Pelicans as the first game back. For the NBA's restore, I talked about it my Lasca in my last podcast But you know they had they had Zion in there for the very first game I. Think they did that on purpose. Zion equals ratings Either way they have a regular are somewhat easy seating the regular season see seating game schedule they played pretty well they looked pretty good in their scrimmage games before the games the official game started in just their scrimmage games they played the team without Zayn on played very well. I. Believe they won one or two of the scrimmage games and I watched one of them and they seem to be playing in great team chemistry. All players played very well. Then, you know they go onto played their seating games and now they are into, they lost both of their first two seating games and I. It was to the Utah. Jazz in second, it was to the Los Angeles Clippers to be fair This was the two hardest games on their seating games schedule. Okay. To to give the Pelicans a little bit of slack. This was the. Games the jazz in the clippers I said it before I didn't necessarily see that they were playing them back to back. That's an even tougher thing to do playing the two hardest games back to back and it wasn't a know in a row at least I'm sorry I should say. But they lose both of them, they lost to the jazz by two points They played very well through the first three quarters really especially to the first two quarters. But They really played badly a Lotta, a Lotta sloppy turnovers. Just a really looked like an older more veteran team in the jazz against a really young team in the Pelicans, which which is, you know that is what it was You know the jazz and a beating them, and like I said in a two point game late I think in large part to do was Zion Williamson and his minutes I saw that game I didn't see before then I didn't see any reports prior to. But Zion is on a minute restriction. So he's only allowed to play fifteen minutes as of right now in these Games, I talk about that in a second, but he played fifteen minutes against the jazz. Was Not playing in the in the final minutes of the game. The most important time he was not playing I but but he did go six for eight from the field had thirteen point zero rebounds one assist and I'm pl- In plus negative plus. MINUS IF THAT'S A staff that's important to you I, it's a somewhat pretty important stat and just looking in the data today game basis negative a minus sixteen. In the game So even though he went six for eight a good shooting percentage that didn't necessarily translate on the floor had some turnovers was was minus Sixteen Zero Rebounds for Zion Williams which I thought was near impossible for a guy and his nature but zero rebounds for him. Only one assist and thirteen point six for eight only fifteen minutes which again in my opinion is the largest reason that was the. Was the biggest part of their loss. You know he wasn't in the game enough. As far as against the clippers. They lost by twenty three points at one point they were down thirty something points. To be fair, the clippers made. Made. A franchise record three pointers I. Twenty, five, twenty, six threes they played very well clippers played very well against the young. Pelicans but still. Pelicans lose by twenty three. Almost you know like I said I one point it was a thirty points they were losing by Zairean only plays fourteen minutes when three for seven only shoot seven shots again, only shot eight in his first game only made three shots only has seven points. This time you know he actually does get some rebound had five rebounds. Zero assist was minus seventeen for the game. Again fourteen minutes. That's why we see only seven shots seven points five rebounds zero assists in the the negative seventeen that that's just because when I when I've seen him in the games, it seems like it's UN- meaningful basketball, which isn't usually what you see at as I am but anyway again, fourteen minutes, why are we seeing such limited play fourteen in this game fifteen in the last? Why are we seeing such limited play? From Zairean arguably, like we all say, the next phase of the lead in space of the NBA the rookie of the year we seeing such limited play. We thought he was cleared. We saw more minutes in the games before he just had four months off. Is there an injury we don't quite know about is it lingering What is going on four Zaylon in the Pelicans why are we seeing only? Fifteen minutes in the first two games are they pacing themselves or they really waiting because they knew these first two games they probably weren't going to win maybe anyway the like I said, these are the first two in the two hardest games on their schedules..

Won He won Trolling a rolling with Martin Weiss coming up at the bottom of the hour. All right. Let's stick with the NBA J. Mac. As you said, in our last segment, we're at halftime of the jazz. Pelican Gay Pelicans game sixty to forty eight New Orleans Pelicans I. Really like New Orleans as a young upcoming team. Lonzo Ball I. Think he's a really nice point offered his team because you got so many scores in Brandon Ingram Zairan and jrue holiday. He's a great point guard because he doesn't need a lot of sauce although he took nine shots. Yeah he didn't. Doesn't take a lot of shots, but then you got drew holiday with Twelve Brandon Ingram fifteen. He Looks Great Six Boards and Zion, with nine in seven minutes. But you you believe Jay Mac I'm and I'm GonNa give you room the you know unwind and just flesh out your your statement you mentioned it to Rick Bucur you believe the NBA needs. Zaylon Williamson and the Pelicans in the playoffs explain yeah. I don't think there's any debate about this from when Zion blew up duo. BUCUR DID NOT DOUBT IT I. Doubt it at least there's a delay do very often. The reality is I on blew up at Duke and he became must see TV their TV ratings for Duke Games with Zaire were astronomical the highest rated NCAA. Tournament game that year was Duke Michigan State Because of Zion. Okay. So he gets to the NBA and he's must see TV Chris Right. Now, the the TV marketplaces crowded I look in the In the studio here, and we got guys looking at their phones all the time guys watching Netflix. There's so many options out there video games getting someone's attention in this day, and age is extremely difficult. Okay. It's hard for TV hosts radio host unit..

"An untenable exercise, but clearly it left a mark, which is the whole point, and it's getting you to kind require an question everything about your existence or a white person's existence, and what they have available to them, and that's kind of what I'm getting at here with silver. This is kind of a privileged check for the NBA to right like they sitting around in these. These boardrooms coming up with these ideas of Oh. How can we get Zaylon Williamson into the playoffs, so we can make extra television revenue. Oh, how long can we make it before? We're like over compromise player health right because I mean the facts are if the health and safety of the players was the top and only priority. There's no games at all at this point, right? Right, so they're already kind of playing this calculus and. I think that the the racial undertones. Among decision makers in the players themselves are. Often overlooked factor and here kind of can't be and I think that this winds up being a little bit of a moment of truth route him silver to right because ultimately, he's going to be the lead decision maker in this entire process. Are they going to play with sixteen teams? Are they going to play with twenty teams? Are they going to play with twenty two teams is? Is this whole thing going to work? How many people are going to be sick? WHO's going to be responsible? If someone get six and dies and to me, a lot of those questions just look different after the last week. Not because the facts have changed in terms of the risk factors, or who can get sick, but because there's just a huge spotlight on that aspect of this dynamic. That really might not have been there prior to George Floyd's death. Could you imagine a world where Adam silver cuts his losses and cancels the rest of this season? Gets ready for the two thousand, twenty, two thousand twenty one season instead just decides to. Create a world where players who would otherwise be in the campus like atmosphere, the the bubble where are instead allowed to? Go around the country and speak freely about civil rights, and they are able to Plan protests and peacefully protest themselves in be in communities that need them and use their voice for a different type of Social Progress I mean we talked about this a lot. When the last dance was on, at least I did about how the whole point of being that popular professional basketball player is not necessarily to win basketball games. It is to promote change for the greater good with your voice and your platform, and I think it would be really cool if that happened, but again I think I'm just a little naive because there's just way too much money involved for that to ever happen. No, but I do think it's time to kind of rethink everything, right I mean have priorities change if you're the players what happens if these these protests do continue what happens if there is the need for that kind of leadership in the community. You know what if you're in that? Orlando campus environment and all of a sudden something happens in Atlanta and your Jalen, Brown and you WanNa. Go lead a protest right? ARE YOU STUCK CONFINED ORLANDO? Are you able to leave and not come back? To Atlanta I mean who could be grudge a player in that situation for wanting to take a stand in turn their back on basketball I. Mean I certainly couldn't and I think a lot of people should not so that is like I said. It's just another dynamic that they're going to have to consider now I. Think you're you're probably honest. Man I wouldn't call you naive, but. I I think maybe the world is just a more cynical place right? I think they've got the ball. The ball is in motion here for the for the NBA returned. They've they've gotten quite a bit. Down the path. We actually heard Michelle Roberts last week. Be Like! Hey, it's time to make a call out. He had calls with NBA. GM's on Thursday and the Board of Governors on Friday that did not produce a playoff format but something along those lines is expected to come to fruition this week, and so that's Kinda. Why winds up being a moment of truth? Not only does Adam silver need to come up with his finalize plan? Put a timeline in place. Communicate that to the players make sure that they're still all completely bought in after everything that's happened, and then they move forward, but he's also going to have to sell to the public at a very difficult time to do that. and. That's what he gets paid the big bucks for, but it certainly a challenging spot. For him to be an. an email here on this question of you know what's really safe. Right and we got our buddy Dr Bill on instagram and he emailed in Michael with some really good thoughts. He says look if the NBA wants to make this as safe as possible, they should only be inviting playoff teams. They should be testing all players who are going to be in the bubble two weeks in advance, and then ask them to self isolate for two weeks they should test everybody at the start of the playoffs and offer test anyone who wants to retest after that they should limit family members and media members. and. He says even if you do all that. The risk is still high with that plan. We're seeing manufacturing sites, open and close multiple times in the same week due to people testing positive, already bring anyone additional to the venue adds exponential rather than linear risk. The key is to limit the number of people interactions between teams who are not playing each other so Dr. Bill laid it out pretty straightforwardly Michalis like this is not particularly safe. Here's a few steps that you can do to make it safer. But, here's another factor. Our players GonNa want to be away from their families potentially for months in the playoffs during. What's obviously a very very tense moment I mean certainly I understand that that framework changing for from player mindset as well based on what's happened here over the last week, so there's legitimate challenges and. Dr Bill may be came through and scared a straight little bit Michael, but hey, by the way he threw in one postscript, and here's just a brief moment of levity. He writes PS. On average seventy five percent of people who take the nasal swab corona virus test shed tears. Just like Michael did so might not be quite as painful as Michael described, but it's still pretty bad. So, what do you think Michael? Dr Bill He's got your back to a degree. But what do you make of? His overall approach. You're on the safety side. I'm honored to have Dr. Bill in my corner. Thank you so much Dr Bill This is exactly what we were kind of discussing previously about The it kind of just common sense right like. If you want to reduce your risk, you would have the fewest demand. Teams are possible, if not no season at all, but for the sake of argument of we need to play basketball. During global pandemic or risk, losing hundreds of millions, more.

"My wife is from Indiana guys. I've been out to NASCAR VINCE before. It's awkward but for the most part I've received a lot of love from NASCAR fans. I've enjoyed my experiences the other day when I paid attention to this video. You know what it made me do. It made me want to reach him. Or maybe WANNA grab some right here put this in the hand and just reach to reach through the screen as a black man and just wanted to almost want to fight Mike. I wanted to fight because whenever I hear that term it brings me to that place it easily brings me to that place. And here's the part. That really frustrates me about it. And understand. Everybody is allowed a second chance and we are missed a pandemic where there are people passing away and people are dying in I. I got a second chance being I when I was twenty one years old. I understand that but there was a level of contrition that I wanted to feel. That didn't sound like it was words written on a script that he just read and it was also the way that NASCAR handled it the first sentence out a from NASCAR to press releases about insensitive language that note was it insensitive language that was racist language. It like the first step in combating racist language is acknowledging it like racist language. It wasn't just said in the colloquial way Max like and I hear all that I noticed in the topic of debate about rap music. I don't care about any of that. Like that was said the way it was set in the tonality of the way it was said it was taken for exactly the way it should have been said so and then there was a statement that came out after that because NASCAR came out and said we don't. We don't come out that insensitive language and it was like what we're all about inclusion and diversity. Now don't back it up. Don't back up your I just take it and draw a line in the sand so I just. I just feel like the way this whole understand. He lost money. And all these different things and this is going to be a byproduct of where we were gaming and the Internet in this new age that we're in where everything is livestream. Like those things I get. Let me think about that. Seems like that's a habit that's a habit that said that that bothers me. Those things are not so only thrown around well first of all first of all J. Let me say this. I don't disagree with anything that you're saying in terms of how it seems how. It looked how it sounded. You Damn Right. It was racist no question about that but I think people like yourself and myself recognizing the fact that we're African Americans. We're black men. Guess what you know. Black folks make some mistakes too and so what I want to do is understand. I want to make sure that. Let me finish that while. Not letting him off the hook. I want America to notice. There's a black man. On national television that recognizes this is racist rhetoric that came that spewed out of his mouth. And just the same way. Other people are willing to give somebody like that a second chance albeit eventually as opposed to immediately you hope. The same accord is giving to black people when they make mistakes is well. You can't ask that you're not willing to give that's number one and number two more importantly Max to get to your point. I'm not I'm not. I'm not knocking. Whatever whatever you said because you are right in terms of what people the ER as opposed to the aid even though Jay Myself. We ain't paying attention to that. He's the reason we're not paying attention. And you alluded and you alluded to it. Max is because even though particularly in this day and age. There's not an excuse to use the word understand White America. Did the difference between US using it where we're talking amongst each other then you use again and for any white person out there that wants to deny that reality. I simply ask that you go into any black neighborhood in the country which are white self. If you think it's okay and go ahead and used around the brothers and watch what happens to you. It's not okay. It's never OK coming from us. We don't have a license to use it on national television. We don't have a license to use it if we're working representing a company. Obviously because they don't want that work we have to take that into consideration but in terms of talking amongst ourselves. No matter how wrong it may be may be perceived. There is a difference between two black people talking to one another using that word and somebody white feeling comfortable enough to think that they can spew it. You should stop me right now. Talking to White America. Because I'm Josh Julia. It would be a problem. And that's what people need to know and let me just. Let me have quick before you go Max Condone using the word at all Max. At all right I'll use it with my black friends. I don't use it with my employees. We have I don't understand what Steven Naismith Save. But we I understand you I. I don't condone using it at all. So when I hear that's what brings them back to it and I would also talk a young man and say if you use this word and other ways this is what you could get permission to other people who may be as ignorant and may not know to use. The word is well. That's my around not to mention the arguments not to mention the arguments. That it's a kind of internalized oppression of course but I would the reason like if you look at what transpired. What other word in the language in the English language colloquial or or formal could result in something like this. You know in other words the response. The severe social sanctions are such that the advertisers all. Pull out we're talking about it on national. Tv THE NEXT DAY. Is there another word that would engender this reaction probably not and so in that sense? It's a good teaching moment. You should know it already. But it is kind of the appropriate proportional reaction to the usage of the word and the kind of outrage that it that it produces and in for example Jay. I'm saying guys is looking at this now perspectives like when I go to races. I've seen it when you see the confederate flag. That is being allowed. People talk about three. I don't agree with that. It's just I don't think this is a great look for Nascar at all at all. It's not no question without question. Yeah it's very simple. It's not confusing to me at all. A. E. R. ANYTHING NEVER USE IT. I hip hop never use it. Never sing anything. It's very black and white. We will continue on here guys another thing I wanted to get to was. We've been asking fans to send in their debate questions and this wind comes from Roscoe Rosco. Thank you so much rascal without an e for hitting us up who will be the face of this good question who will be the face of the League after Lebron James. Retire Stephen to me to me K. D. I know he's been in the League while I appreciate Luca Danni but I think is going to return like a monster. His name comes to my mind. Zaylon Williamson I'm with Matt's Sin. Take moving needle left to right with you..

"Hey, let's dive into the XFL and I was watching. The Sacramento Kings game and it came to half time I'm actually going unless the corona virus cancels the game. I'M GONNA, go see Zaylon Williamson live Wednesday night pretty excited. I like I like watching the elite players in sports. If they can get me to buy a ticket, a media guy, I could get a media credential, but if I buy a ticket, you, you're moving the needle, so there's a reason why as I on last year a duke had these enormously I ratings dudes a needle mover, and I'm I'm pretty fired up to watch, but the kings who are making this little playoff push kind of battle in the Pelicans for the last spot and the grizzlies. Game was on NBA TV and it comes the halftime, so it's like what the Hell GonNa Watch like seven forty five. At twenty minutes to kill on Sunday night so I flipped espn and they got the xfl game on. Lot of you guys who hit me up like middlekauff. You wash the xfl what are your takes I'm like you know. I haven't really watched the XFL. I had for bits and pieces, but never long and I watch for twenty minutes straight in I was blown away by the broadcasts. And the broadcast was fantastic. They have the coaches miked up. The mics are super hot on the line of scrimmage like you can hear the tight end talking to the tackle on top of quarterback. They I've seen them. Do they halftime interviews inside the locker room and I've seen them. They interview players after sweet play like if you score touchdown or get a sack on third down like you'll usually interview immediately the sideline reporter and got me thinking. The NFL's never done higher ratings than it's doing right now. And that's why they're pushing the to get the deal done, so they can sign this enormous deal and the deal is going to be big whether they get the done and they do it next year this year. It's going to be huge golf signed for over a billion dollars like doubled. The previous meteorites deal well. I think we can all agree and I love the PGA tour, but they're kind of dependent on Tiger Woods one in a big reason, they got such a high numbers tired last three or four years really helped the ratings. Get back, but to meteorites you need content. Live rights in gambling's is also going to help golf. Quick hot, Take Golf the second best sport to bet beside football. As a fellow Gambler I love gambling football, college and pro gambling in the NBA sucks because with tanking and load management. It's impossible. Baseball is unbeatable and betting on golf is really fun. Especially matchups major tournaments I'm telling you if you haven't dabbled. Dabble. But you always want to be improving your broadcast, right? I heard I think on like Bill Simmons podcast. He like a media guy on and I heard it explained really well and I. Think it's so true. You just need to look at these broadcasts like there's a television show twenty almost a television star well. How much do you think television stars make reason John Madden got eight million.

"I sit one hundred one to win. The east was in the east. Yeah I mean Look Blake. Griffin was awesome when he was healthy. He was really good actually really good so the problem is that rousers isn't very good very good at all Reggie Jackson's knock. I looked and I was actually surprised. What would they win like thirty nine last year they snuck into went four hundred forty one? I don't know how they won forty. One Derrick rose now. That's their key edition which whatever it's better to big guys that are really that are well. Blake Griffin's really good when he's playing and then drums been drummond's been better than people realize they added Tony Snow from the bucks. I like hair care can make the leap if you will see Mikailah yeah former Laker ups. I thought one hundred one in a conference that has really too good teams. Let me throw a couple more at you where I I'm not sure if you read through this I did so I wanna ask you so some of the popular teams Pelican Guy this number I i. I didn't know what to expect actually so when the Pelicans won the lottery so the night they won the lottery. Everyone was saying playoffs playoffs playoffs playoffs Davis whatever it is yeah and I was like when they traded. I'm sorry they had they had the pick work and then they made the trade. That's whenever saying playoffs and I was like I can't wait about the under then they added like J._J.. RETTIG and favors and I'm like all right so this team might be actually a playoff team because they aren't just a bunch of guys who are loose ends they they have leadership and then Zaylon Williamson's the ultimate wildcard I would. I'm passing here. I would lean under but I'm very curious to see how this Pelican seasons unfolds the first year because I do like gentry's coaches well so I projected him out to be almost exactly five hundred and the line right now is thirty nine. I would bet over if I had to <hes>. I think that's probably right where they're going to be on the cusp of being a playoff team or not the J._J.. Reagan Derrick favors people. Don't maybe realize it was one of the reasons the jazz were so good they needed to address their spacing racing and three points shooting but favors had these single best defensive rating in the N._B._A.. Last year I did not know that now he's on the fourth Gobert lot which helped to but as a whole he actually was the best defender as far as you know how many points his lineups gave up to opposing teams and they have you know Hayes who they drafted was really good in Summer League <hes> and then obviously all the young Lakers guys like Josh Heart Brandon Ingram Lonzo Ball on top of holiday who I think's one of the most underrated players period today accurate one of the best perimeter defenders in the N._B._A.. They're going to be under team early. I think it's GonNa be hard about Anderson the N._B._A.. Again this season but one team that I would be confident we talked about on the show yesterday before the season betting blindly against the Lakers every single game but again. I'm not betting this one but at thirty nine <hes> it's really close adding there are five hundred team but there is a is pretty high variance play because it is a lot of young guys guys that have had injury history like branding Lonzo ball and enzyme Williamson. What what's he gonNA be as rookie? We'll see but it's fun team..

"He's the twitchy as quarterback I have ever seen. And if you can stay in one piece in the NFL, I think he is going to be sensational cliff Kingsbury, as I said, you know, it being an NFL head coach, you are commanding a small army of men cliff Kingsbury has never commanded men. He's commanded kids, and is is cliff Kingsbury going to be able to to go and I approve the higher. I like it. It's outside the box. It's something I'm interested in covering. It's something I'm interested in watching. But they're this thing is fraught with danger. Because is Chris Kingsbury Gwen to go in rip into some of his players the way Bruce Arians did is he going to be able to speak hard troops to players when he has never coached down in the NFL. These are going to be tough things for him, especially if he gets off to a to a slow start. I like the higher, but it's it's it's a dangerous road. They're traveling down in Arizona. It's Dan, basically talk show host lead columnist for sports ninety eight point seven FM. My point is the if you're going to bring in cliff Kingsbury that I'm bringing in Cuyler Murray. If if you stayed with Bruce Arians, I don't think you're bringing in Cuyler Murray. And you know, that's that's where if I'm only in them all in if not then I'm not taking Cuyler Murray. That's exactly why. And that's what kind of wood. That's where I met with this whole thing was Steve time. And I really believe that that they've got to kind of align their priorities and get their mind straight before this craziness begins, you know, on the streets of national last night. And I'm sure you guys saw this as well. They win that little dress rehearsal. And and they showed on the stage. The era Zona cardinals the pick is in. And there's all this pomp and circumstance. And I thought to myself these ten minutes that the cardinals are going to be on the clock if they keep if they keep their intentions and what they're going to do airtight. And if there is no pre draft trade, those ten minutes are going to be riveting compelling stuff because nobody really knows what they're gonna do. The thing is is their GM. He's a guy that I I never believed he was in danger of losing his job after a three and thirteen season after the debacle of hiring Steve Wilks after dealing Patrick Peterson's unhappiness last year. Well, now you're going into another year. And I do think is his job is next on the light and hiring cliff. Kingsbury is nice and it's out of the box, and you can say look at how willing I am to to risk everything. But if you if you go now and say, look, I if you think in terms of job security, it's going to be awfully hard for general manager to draft Cuyler Marie when you have so many needs on this football team. But to me it once you when. She wouldn't you signed on with clip Kingsbury. This is the road. You have to go you need to unveil a brand new day. A new declaration of who the cardinals are. And just take it from here and hit the ground running with it. It's interesting too. Because as you know, well, Cuyler Marie doesn't come off very well in public. I was with them in Indianapolis one day you had that ill-fated didn't interview with him his people skills. They're not the greatest and even worse. He doesn't seem to really care. And I don't know if that's because of his family if it's is handlers. If it's because he is so constricted of what he should and shouldn't say in this process. But but there's that to consider to the popularity of this kid in help people are going to relate to them. I believe if things go well this guy can do to the NFL with Steve dashed into the NBA. He's going to be this underdog quarterback that is going to send this message to all these young players that look if you're under sixty tall you can be an NFL quarterback. I think he can have that kind of impact on the game. I just like to know more of who this kid really is in and I hope the cardinal. Have a clear picture. I will give you the power to pick. If you went Zaylon Williamson in Phoenix or you went Cuyler Murray and Arizona..

"So we start off this hour with Sean farnum he joined us earlier today. And as he sat down we started the conversation by talking about the story lines heading into the tournament. And in the final four, what's the story line? He's most interested in this weekend. I just think it's it's been outstanding guard play. I mean, that's always what we talked about the start of the year. And while we fall in love with Zaylon Williamson's of the world and stuff like that. At the end of the day comes down to guard play and the guards in particular here. Whether it's tied Jerome all season long for Virginia just how well he's played moving himself into a potential first round draft pick caches Winston who was the most important player in college basketball, maybe overall, but certainly not named Zion. And what he was able to do to stabilize Michigan state team that dealt with some injuries one that that end. Ended up being basically all season long the other one that kind of missed a month at the most important time of the year in conference play. Nick wards injury. Winstons Ben unbelievable while we talk about covert and his dramatic improvement from year one to year too. I think it's guys like Moonie and Moretti that had made a huge difference for Texas Tech and their ability to be successful this season. And then of course, I if you had to pick the most outstanding player in the NCAA tournament, so far I would sit here, and I will argue that Jared Harper has been the most outstanding player overall in this NC double A tournament. That's how great he's been for Auburn. So again here we are experience not one in Duns, shiny, new toys or nice to look at November and get us all hyped and mock drafts and all that other stuff. But as so often is the case it does not play out where they win national championships in the one and done era of college basketball. There's been to one and done teams twenty twelve Kentucky twenty fifteen to Kennedy. Done. Yes. But it is really hard. And it is really special. What we should be doing is. We should be looking back on those teams and gone, man. That is absolutely incredible. That those young teams were able to do it because nobody else has been able to coach Cal tries every single year. It hasn't worked coach K's to say, you know, what I'm not in favor of the one announce oh value are how's it working out? You know, Villanova experienced the North Carolina teams that ROY Williams experienced who no matter who wins this this year. There's not a one and done left in this field. It's about guys that got better. It's about experience. And so this is when we talk about overall college basketball, the one and done is bad for college basketball. No, it's not it's great. It's great for college basketball. Don't let anybody Lodhi. It's great. And if they let the kids go to the NBA right away. Guess what we're still going to have one and done kids that come to college. Like, Devon Booker still would've shown up a Kentucky and still would've left. After one year. It's great to talk about. But at the end of the year. Remember what we're talking about now because next year November when the preseason rankings come out you're going to see all the teams with the one in Duns be ranked in the top five. Then what I want you to do. I want you to look at the teams that are right below those teams and say, which one of these teams have the most substance and the teams with the most substance of the ones that are most likely to be sitting here at the final four year from now what about one.

"Remember, this is the first game November the sixth Duke one one eighteen to eighty four Zion had twenty eight on eleven of thirteen shots in the next day. Steve Kerr who played professional basketball with Michael Jordan said, and I quote, I thought LeBron was a one shot deal. But apparently the next guy is coming. That's the next day after he watched obviously via television, not not coaches tape. He watched TV and sat back. Said there is okay. Is that not pressure and expectation is that not a mouthful from a guy who's become a really good NBA coach as well. As a pretty good NBA the vad with the heat watching the gang game on the TV side as fan evaluate like Oto. All I'm seeing is don't layups where the mid range gang. Okay. But Steve Kerr's pretty smart about that. So I think he just saw the whole raw package Rausing. Nary is the measure quitters the next one. We have a better mid range game eighteen LeBron or John William, you know, what? Lebron had none. None none. He's still below average shooter. I can't tell you. He's taught himself that that Jordan-esque fadeaway which he hasn't done so much more because he doesn't have the hop. Oh, he got gotta let you go. He had to go last night. See I won't bring up you last night. You might nobody cares. You've been that tool. It's one non playoff. No doing another, non nobody. As the broad Jalen laze, become irrelevant. Now, we're talking about the most relevant player on the planet. Zaylon Williamson Eddie Zion. Williamson we're going to talk about that game. When we talk about the LeBron top, I'm saving my ammo. Then very much. This is from Steph curry on one Zion. Williamson Steph Curry's won a couple MVP. Good, right. Says he's unreal. We're talking about him the other day in our team room. So they're they're buzzing about him. I'm the scene, right? Yeah. He says you can't teach his passion. He plays. The he plays hard every possession. And that's an underrated skill that kids can emulate I've never seen the constant energy. Impassioned that we see from this kid every dribble every possession on the Russell Westbrook. Has that? Okay. Zion. Just seems to have it even more. There's more like Russ doesn't play with the joy this like he's he's really kid in candy store. Loving basketball player vibrate Ray, just like rage. Ginny. You hear you hear what everybody said. I thought the I thought LeBron was a one shot deal. But there's someone else coming alone. Steph. Curry is talking about the guy plays with joy and passion, and nobody talked about his game his fundamental game. Okay. Our to ROY pretty coach because you. Negga ROY dead gum, it, guess what? Royce say he said this is after he lost Zion said name somebody else..

"Good news. Thank you, Iowa shattered, Iowa put up a little flight Bohannon. Brought one down from the rafters that three look like a Steph curry three he shot that thing straight up in the air. And that thing splashed like I ain't never seen. A crafty crafty missing the wind up one at the end was one house surprising breaker of all off, man. They start pulling away fly by the they they start pulling away. They're they're going to be very good next year. They only lose one guy for a half four hundred. Everyone knows they're a second team that was an incredible comeback remarkable comeback London watch. It would have been the biggest comeback in NCAA history. And there's no better people for that type of thing. Then the gritty Iowans, right? That's exactly right gas station pizza. To baking quota got attacked by headline news for saying that, but I wins deserve that comeback. Pat anger, Mitch king. Bob sanders. Dallas Clark tie Schmitten towards Kittle. George kittle. Go the Iowa fan base deserve that comeback win. They literally deserve that comeback. When they just didn't get it. They lost that game. Twenty five point lead. You know who won a game though on four point play was that greatest player in college basketball. Zaylon Williamson misses it on purpose because he knows he's got RJ Barrington number two pick in the draft sitting right there with I think a little white guy next him just fouled out the seven foot six guy. You're welcome. Yeah. Let me take the big guy out who's a hell of a player, by the way, you're gonna do much when your son. That's why you see a doorman that some foot tall. And he's not a basketball player. He's gonna work ethic issues. We all don't do too much when you're seven foot tall taco proof that and talk be a hell of a player Zion fouls out there. Big rebound notices RJ Barrett's on a guy who might not have as much criticism. Does. Listen, boys, Burke, call four point play misses a short to RJ side RJ grabs it puts it back takes league game over they missed that fucking layup though, man. Do you think there's a little push on the rebels there from RJ? I mean, there's a lot of rules. There's a lot of rules broken in this game Johnson. Well, which time though, Zion goes for a dunk earlier on old buddy in taco literally just brings both of his arms down on both of his shoulders and hits him like in the collarbone. No call because it's on Zion against any other player. That's a call for sure. So I mean, we can't just we can't just debate about things that happened at the end not the bait the entire game. I think that laya falls though, man that is a tough kid. It would just been magical for Johnny Dawkins plan for chefs key for that many years coaching UCF, debris. I believe is his kid, right? You want to tell you what? Sometimes there's magical moments in sports happen outside the court. And that's chef ski talking about was was one of them after the game. Yeah. Are heartbroken four almost CEO's teared up his kid played incredible. I also think she chefs he's not that grin on the microphone. You would think a coach who's that good at recruiting would do better interviews. He seems to not do very dry try. What's that bell? Check. Not really himself. I don't know his interviews or just very that moment was a monotone and dry. Yes. The most that's the most personality of ever seen him have just because he almost choked up. He seems like a guy who doesn't want him to be bigger than the game. Like that type of his all right? I mean, she shoves the names was USA basketball. He's also notorious for having one of his assistants do the halftime that where he goes into the locker room..

"What has made them special over the course of the season has really been Zaylon Williamson and really at the at the defensive end of the end of the floor. I mean, the coach said his ability to he's like a safety that has great anticipatory skills and jumps out like look at the difference in the first twenty five games. The course they will get off turnovers. The turtle was a fourth versus the six games that he wasn't there. The only thing that ACC tournament was he's back on the floor numbers went right back up to wolves. I twenty five games. And that's was the great equalizer. We talked so much about this team's inability to shoot the three point shot. It doesn't matter if they shoot the three point shot when you could score that many points off turnovers. There's no doubt I'm telling you. I don't ask me that ESPN is too much hype about Zayn Winstons. I deserves everything we're saying about him because he plays harder and everybody he's smarter than everybody. I'm telling you. I've never seen. I know physically. But I'm telling you, this is the smartest player in college basketball. All right. Let's keep it in the ACC Duke Beata Virginia team. That's also a one c twice this season. Virginia is the only team NC double A tournament history. As a one c to lose to a sixteenth seed happened a year ago U N B C, they're back as a one this time around and against Gardner Webb. Kyle guy ready to move on from last year's miseries, very transparent, and no one around campus grounds really mentioned to us or anything. Some people don't let it go on social media. I get Venlo all the time saying I got paid them five dollars because we lost. I don't pay them, by the way. Know definitely is behind this ready to you know, when I saw this year. So, you know, we talk about something else. Yeah. I mean, it's a chip on our shoulder, but it doesn't define us. And we're just trying to move faster than. Let let inspiration the motivation behind it takes someone. We haven't been from the NBA. It's the nuggets and warriors still jockeying for the top of the Western Conference Jamal Murray's one on one. Sadder inskeep. Throws off over to Yokich back over to Murray. Turns the corner throws back behind.

"I'd love to know who who said that comment. Maybe that'll be our follow up conversation. We'll get into that. But just a fascinating conversation and someone admire in so many ways because I couldn't do it. I couldn't have all of that on my desk every single day in every single minute with. So many people counting on your leadership. And so many every move you make be having such tremendous aftereffects. And I'm not misinterpreting what I heard he unequivocally doesn't feel like collegiate athletes should be paid in a different structure than they are right now. Right. That's what I heard corrected mince any words, and I meant what I said aftermath of his commentary. I I really see both sides. There's a very distinct feeling that comes with college football and college basketball, specifically that it feels it just it is a business, but it doesn't feel like one in a lot of ways. And I think it's a separating factor. And I liked that feeling but I'm a forty two year old guy who benefits from that? Right. I have my career because of that I'm not Zaylon Williamson or Christian Wilkins or Trevor Lawrence. It's or to a tongue of I lo- or any number of hundreds hundreds of players. So in forget hundreds. I mean, you got to think about I mean, you heard Greg mentioned, Ed O'Bannon. I mean, this thing this goes way way back when you think about Jalen rose when we we had Jalen was our second wasn't. He the second podcast Travis. So I think he was the second podcast, and you go all the way back to Jalen and Chris Webber being overseas when they were on the fab five and seeing their jerseys or whatnot. They're memorabilia hanging in the window and going, wait a minute. Somebody's making money off of this in Amy. And so a genuinely see both sides in a very complicated issue. Some people are are extremely many people are extreme on either side of the issue. Maybe I'm maybe I'm boring. I'm living on the fence on that one. And mardi. You have a different perspective. You get to know these athletes on a little more personal level than the fans. Do just watching on TV. So you see what they go through? And what their life is like an understand why they want to get paid. Absolutely. That's why again, this is a whole other rabbit hole. But these young men that sit out of these bowl games. Good for you that I would I would if I'm the Andre Baker. Or if I'm Lynn or for net, or if I'm Christian McCaffrey, you bet your ass. I'm sitting out think about we'll we had him on the podcast is a wife and a daughter think about so one bowl game was that one bowl game really gonna do for him and his career was the planning going to propel him any further up in the draft. But an injury could have heard even worse. I'm so glad I'm so glad for Jalen Smith that he has had such a tremendous career. I'm so happy that the Cowboys waited on him that they did take a chance they took a chance and drafted this amazing player from Notre Dame who against your buckeyes headache catastrophic injury. And the Cowboys waited on him, and he is a phenomenal football player. And I'm glad that that worked out for. But that was the moment that was the line of demarcation right there. Jalen Smith where these. Guys went wait a minute and their agents bright who their their potential representation. Wait a minute. I don't know if we should be playing in his game or not and when Leonard and Christian made the decision to sit I think it just changed. It changed everything. All right. We're wait. We're way off the reservation now, but thanks so much to to Greg Sankey SEC Commissioner for his tremendous insight. I'm better for it. And I'm certainly smarter for it. Thing about this..

Dash is crazy. It's still every day. It seems like we can notification somebody who's liked it or reached with game. And now all this time later, it's I mean, even like last week we had something like one hundred and twenty plays on that post. It's still going around. Oh, man. It is increasing. Let's get out with our friend Chris level who is at Madison Square Garden game's about to tip off here in about ten minutes from now Chris level and live from the Big Apple Chris level, red raiders sports. How things looking level. Well, it's this is an interesting. You know, it's city, you know. So it's it's chaotic everywhere you look, but a big test for the red raiders tonight. Certainly don't really what to expect. But this is going to be one of the toughest teams that Texas Tech plays all season. Yeah. And I can't remember a game as big as except for the tournament last year. But can you recall a bigger preseason game or pre conference game? Not really I think I I was asking earlier, and I'm not sure that I've ever seen your two top ten teams like this. And the fact that it's in the sold out mess it's worth, and they met that adds a whole layer everything in the tricky part is is that we all have to kind of keep saying perspective beat still have, you know, big non conference game versus Arkansas, you still have eighteen conference games. But we're just getting started here. But there's a lot of attention on this game. Rightfully so. But if it goes, well, or it doesn't go. Well, they're still long way to go. You'll be calling the the game coming up at six o'clock ninety seven three. That's where we we're gonna get out of this show. Just a little bit early to make sure that we're at home watching it as well with the Falker fire roast in tell us. So what do you think are some keys again Tusla bit about this Duke team? And what you think keys the game are coming up. Well, Jay, I would tell you that, you know, next next, I guess June. Whenever the NBA draft gets here. You're gonna hear Duke mentioned probably in three of the top five to six picks and three of those players featured here tonight, I mean, and and you know, they have their point guard is like a life first round pick some of this is different deal here, you know, RJ Barrett camera tish and Zaylon Williamson or the three guys their focus on the interesting thing is is that they don't do a whole lot to try to trick you they don't it's gonna be fairly simple. But they wanna get up down the floor and score score score. They're not interested in gardening for long periods of time. If you're Texas checking we'll turn this thing into a fight..

"Scoring total of twenty five set last year. Obviously in his one year, that's the highest point total by any two freshmen in the first game. They have three guys that could break it. Beck free. Throw by Williamson misses the next one. He makes he makes it we'll give him twenty Barrett's already got twenty two and reddish has nineteen. This impressive freshman classes, not disappointed. You're on opening night. The lefty Williamson hits the second free throw. So he hits twenty the second member of the blue devils to hit at least twenty points. Seventy five forty seven Duke, fourteen forty five left killed in Johnson using a strain now hits the screen. Ultra high Williamson and here comes the big, man. Finishes gets fouled. You got your first Zaylon Williamson highlight reel play that was amazing at one end. They go inside to Richards, not only blocks the shot. He basically catches it takes. Four dribbles up the floor and throws a pass between two defenders Barrett for the finish. And the foul that was nothing short of spectacular. Water play by John Williamson leading to a possible three point play for Barrick. Route. That doesn't encapsulate the night for these freshmen what a play between those two outstanding players is buried finishes. The three point play on an absolute dime from two hundred eighty five pounders, I n Williamson odds could you gotten that some point in this game. Either team would be ahead by thirty one. Thirty one didn't see that one coming seventy eight forty seven Duke Travis turnaround shot nearly went down after he got fouled. Best a couple of times. Javan delory. It will pick up fell number four with fourteen twenty four to go here in this first half. Again, though dukes defense holding the Kentucky to twenty two percent shooting this half thirty six percent for the game. And that's led to a whole bunch of fast-break points. Look at this number twenty two points for four for Kentucky. And this is a team that John Calipari has talked about how good they are. How much they commit to playing in the open floor. We gave you those stats from the big three Williamson reddish Barrett at forty five of the fifty nine and a half. Those three have every point to here in the second half. Well, why not? I made if you're gonna you got it Florida. These guys are so good. Should take every shot in the game. Actually, find probably shift. Travis it the free throws. Here's Williamson's spinning down low left. The extension gets to go through contact another to for Williamson eighty two forty nine Duke Williamson's got twenty two. Barrett's got twenty-five. Reddish has nineteen. Here's Travis getting position down low and getting fouled. We'll get himself to the free. Throw line is going to go on Williamson his third. Well, one thing also about Zion. Williamson the chaff to like he got two thousand very early in about the first seven or eight minutes. He's been able to play now through under the fourteen.
