"Do online shopping you get cash back off of it off of just because racketeering is gonna feed you to certain websites that pay them to get you a piece of the action right job actually yep so you get like four percent cash back three sometimes it's as much as like ten or eleven and the thing that's interesting with reaction I think at the same applies with some of the bulls players is that sure they sponsor the team but then they get the sponsorships I know Steph curry is one of their big advertiser rackets and yep uhhuh I think that some of the bulls are are doing some stuff was any too so sure you get the team but especially in the NBA were we're living in a player's firstly people care about the players more now than the teams down here getting the the extra sponsorship with a guy like Steph curry whose furthering your business and I mean I'd never heard of racket until went on that and he adds to it your ads are created because people like recruiting right yeah racked cutting no it's racket then and until you just said I really had no idea what they did but Jon Greenberg we actually used to work here now is one of the heads of the athletic said that the Golden State Warriors get twenty million dollars from racket and the Lakers have wish I don't know what that is we have wish on their jerseys yeah I'm not sure that if they get between twelve and fourteen million dollars according to John and you have the bulls getting I don't know how much I'm assuming according to John it was the people in the industry do not believe they're getting twenty million like Golden State got but maybe it's a little less like ten million a year that's still a ton of money man like that's adding a really really good bullpen arm to your team for free so I'm looking up right now wish is a California based E. commerce company that seems to be the thing that that's growing up I mean it makes sense to California the Silicon Valley all that stuff all it all makes sense to there you go so it all fits together so why people would be have a problem with MLB don't what I want to know why MLB doesn't have logos on the basis first of all the bases are really hard so when they're wet they're very slippery that's how Corey Patterson blew out his knee how they don't put softer a good deal of freakin Mike hello I have my pillow basis yes I guess got plenty of cash that would be awesome J. B. says I absolutely hate the logo's on the NBA jerseys I'll go out of my way to buy the Jersey without them well then you are getting it on authentic Jersey I don't know NBA store sells them with the logo's really yeah I don't think they do may maybe like the the upper upper tier has them I mean you can't avoid it with soccer jerseys because that it's the main attraction of feels like on those jerseys but I don't know if the NBA cells like you're you're running the line Jersey with the logo on it I'm pretty sure they don't I think all star jerseys because I remember Keogh was on them on the all star jerseys but I don't know if the the regular like if you just went to a bulls game went into the team shop I don't know if they have the Jersey logo's on them I think you have to get a special one to get that Harrison said I definitely bought a pair of at zenni optical glasses because of the bulls partnership like if I needed to go but I don't wear glasses but I needed to goal get glasses why would I not take a look at that if they had interesting frames and then go to my doctor have to be my brother and say Hey can you get me those or can you order from sandy and when you do my prescription bingo I got my glasses so I had no idea what they were not and so there you go the three says Hey at the cabin which is just like Amazon so I guess it's a baby Amazon R. three one two three three two three seven seven six is our phone number let's go to Chris in Geneva what's up vocals I don't man a great I reply to comments about talking about the dog's bowl yep yeah they're good for your wife I think it's because she'd be out for the family she she does let you grow a beard thank you go to bed early here but even on thanks man I appreciate you no problem I know my wife is listening today and she's probably laughing at that yesterday she says to me I she went picked up her purse I usually go pick up our prescriptions so the other day yesterday she says Hey do you know where my prescription is listed nope you picked it up she's like no it was sitting right there in that ball and it's not there I have no idea how to look for it can't find it she says I know you hate clutter you put it somewhere I said of course you're gonna blame me because of your inadequacy that you can't find where you put it the truth matter is she found it I put it on the plates in the cabinet and I now remember it was me doing she claims I have a bad memory I mean Danny would cosign three one two three three two three seven seven six is our phone number more of your calls we got a lot of them logo's MLB and it's father's day weekend man is gonna be awesome the weather should be pretty good I think we'll get an update from Tracy at ten fifty are looking for to see what the weather's going to be like we'll be right back.

You know once all waiting to working. Not That's how that's how I move on the same way. I just can't wait any INVESCO and get to work and continue to Brian. If you to get better they were May Don't know don't know too much. I mean I know he is with like Nike and the Raptors would attorney told us than what the sixers most recently so No He's been in the Philly area Things like in a great deal. We met him on resume call. That's kind of what you can do right now. So besides the taxi have a quick zoom call with all team. But that's been but I know he's definitely hungry to get back to work like Koby says I'm sure we all are Rating it back and try to turn things around and get some WS. That's for sure you talked about came team. Chemistry always asked this question Spoken to various guys on the Lakers. What the team group tax a looks like To be as clean as possible but still I guess. I'm curious to know Dirk Corona virus. He can't inside scoop on everything. I mean. Yeah I mean you know you know you got you got old people always joking around and stuff but there are definitely times where it's like what you like. You can text them every single day and like talk every single day just given the fact that we're all doing the same thing we're all just waiting on clearance and stuff but you know you got your jokesters People it's more the zoom calls and with always zoom call. I think he is more like people. like normal funny jokes at whatever you know what I mean. Saito's doing something Kobe's after everyone just gotta just like little nudges and you're in there now. He strikes me as the jokester. My little off with that. He's alerted integrate Zada. Data's funny man the NCAA tournament there was no tournament. You guys come from prestigious schools Villanova North Carolina. How weird was that to not have march madness. I mean honestly It was weird but Monte wasn't gonNA BE IN IT. It didn't hurt me. What as not hurt not be able to watch. Management is one of the best months of basketball year. This entertaining entertaining the. Why tend to watch how you know everything else falls under dollars coming you order dominance Donna does dominate dominate and whatnot. But just a surprise. It's like You know you never know what's going to happen we'RE GONNA WIN. GonNa lose so yeah I mean I really missed it but like I said my team willingly in it the Hurt me as much. Ryan is grinning from ear at nine real no Villanova with solid. I was bummed out for for in the fact and for everyone to watch the games I mean. They're they're awesome but My little brother is a freshman on Villanova the experiences of play in the tournament as does Kobe. It's there's nothing like it. It it special and you get like kind of butterflies when I there and everything so bummed for That my little brothers pump playing the biggest tournament and that's the tournament as well so Hopefully everything is going to give back to normal And then we can hopefully have one next year and We'll be able to experience that I'm sure. North Carolina will be good again. You know I didn't. I love bipartisanship right now with Villanova North Carolina. Hey I don't even know what to say. I was probably like thirteen when we won the title. I don't even know that was thirteen. I'm kidding sixteen sixteen long. No I was spitting. Wasn't I think they will wasn't twenty sixteen? "Arts Ours Questioning because he's been in the League longer than me. I I got like one point five waiting for there's so many I mean Jordan seems to be like on a whole `nother level another dudes who who hate to lose like I hate to lose more than anyone but like the stuff that he was doing and pushing his teammates just physical ability and helping out stronger gun just being able to push his teammates while he was the best player in the League and Rose Expectations for Chicago and just consistently one and Kinda made his mark and establish itself as as the best in the world as we saw like ninety two during the pickup game. Monaco like you're able to see that so I can't give one thing one specific person but there's definitely so many people out there who hate to lose Kobe. You still pondering I mean I just say like like I said like Kobe. Bryant closing to micro onto Michael Jordan. But like I don't I don't think there's anyone you know that. That is as competitive as he is like. Archie says a lot of guys that hate to lose but they don't take it to that extent level that he took it to after like you know cool guys mood at the game you know your. You're mad school when she goes to the car you know when she'd been the car and go home. It's like our alternates like eight. Didn't have that mentality. It was just. He lost like he was getting his team as he was doing doing that. And you know he he. May everybody feel like I like you know. We don't need to lose again type thing so I just like. He just took it to another level that nobody else has. I think if this basketball career it doesn't work out Kobe. I think you'll be excellent anchor for this reason and I think the basketball is gonNA work out phonetically Your name sounds like Kobe. Kobe Bryant Kobe Bryant When you look at Kobe I feel like I've pulled a lot of players throughout the course of this season. They've discussed how kolding was there generations. Michael and and and I I can kind of see it How much did you see similarities? Between those two guys will first of all you can tell them their games the tongue the way they move. You know everything like like. Kobe said you know he he wanted to be him. There wouldn't be a Kobe without. Mj by disliked the mentality. You know the way. The carrot excels on the way they the way they work the way they you know. I'M GONNA I'M GONNA be the greatest regardless of what anybody else thinks you know you know one thing about you. Know that documentary. That align like he didn't kill taught him roof. You know like when he was playing he didn't care what he thought. He didn't care about their opinion on him. And I think coby was the same way he just wanted to win three like that you know. Kobe was my generation. Nj for sure No everybody to I know you know was coming up. Look up the Kobe Bryant metality. I wanted to be like you know everybody wanted to be you know the face. La The Lakers and which is not as well rival shaking your head. You add something to that they. I mean Kobe. I mean from Philadelphia suburbs lower. Marianne so I grew up playing his high school and Planning Kobe. Bryant Gymnasium. Wariness kicks in represented. I mean you just want to kind of be like Oh be on the court I mean I know when I was in my friends in high school anytime. We shot anything in the trash for saying Goldman because I like salad when I was growing up. That's what it was. He was like our generation. My generations Jordan. Just 'cause he was just an ultra competitive dude you know after they lost like the Celtics in a way he was getting that team back in shape like calling out powder salt or or whatever and just an expecting greatness because he saw that in his bigger brother as Jordan at like you said in the documentary so just everything that Koby said. I agree with but I was being from this area. You just have another amount of respect and For Kobe miss the White. You giggled and I find that interesting you kind of had the home court advantage. You could yell Kobe. You Call Your name. You Sat. How does that work growing up? Not they knew growing. We're not say Kobe Kobe. Bean officer like when arch arch citing the trash Nancy. Kobe measure realize. Like that's really well. You know we was doing like me and my friends are doing the same thing even not even a trash can even like we had a fatal a jumper. You know something like that you know growing up playing outside the outside goes plan twenty one. You're out there who've been Moose Kobe so as hot work it was. It just clicked me. My Mom said the one of the things that stood out in the Jordan or the Bulls documentary I keep saying Jordan documentary seem synonymous but you check out the last dance one of the things that stood out to me and I think it'll be a lasting impact is with Michael. Talked about people criticizing. And how everybody's not meant to be great and at the end. When he was finishing he was crying. He said break. Is it just me for the guys when you saw that? Yeah definitely I think I mean I've seen it clipped up on from so many twitter accounts about like you. Just you can just tell how much winning and competing getting better that this dude like wanted to do like a mic. Drp like bone like. That's it you can just tell like if someone is that emotional. Their care factors just crazy. It's it's crazy so he cared so much about being the greatest have been the best player And having the best team in winning list the white Yeah for sure I think you know for him. You know and everybody knows like Michael Jordan is not really a become crying ruining listener guy. I'm going to get that down most over the top of it. You know that way. Life is real. He wants to be the greatest. It wasn't just for show whether just this it got to be great and inspired to be great near parts. You the best play the game so I think it just solidify by doing national history or most of the solidify wanting to beat bit. Wanted to be the best. I remember I believe that was a ric flair and you want to be the best woo. You got to be the best when I when I look at you guys this season and covering you guys. The LAST COUPLE OF SEASONS RYAN. Use told me that you guys have aspirations to do something great colby. If I'm not mistaken you have often been on record. You know various things personal goal than more. I think that's interesting because your teammate. Coby literally the other day. Zach Levine. Called you a human flame. When I hear that I think a ball theme from streetfighter your references to get where you how. What does that mean for you? As as a hearing that from the from the from the face of the franchise in a lot you know music. Are you know really tight? We're no really cooler. You know that you can go back to trade campaign interviews. He's had a belief in me since day. One and I think towards the end of the season you know I got the show. You know. what he was leaving before so. I've lived lot. He was all all season using. I gotta come up with a nickname for you and I guess he found it. You know we talk with both these guys back in February when were in Philly when he played the sixes and we talked about him not being selected as an all star. And you know he talked to me. Said it wasn't really disappointed but it gave them a chance to kind of honest. Graft I guess my question is where do you see that as a as a As as the face of the franchise like what are you most impressed with as far grind? I'll start with you. This man which he works is de mass like He. He works super hard. He wants to be great but he wants to win. You know what I mean. I think we're all hungry to win. And I think he's just he's a big time competitor And he's just a big time player. We've seen so many GANZ res. He's he's lettuce victory. I mean the Charlotte Games made always sticks out thirteen. Threes forty nine points the game winner like off a Kobe's like steel like everything everything that does he wants to win. Like that's ultimate thing. So he was definitely bombed that he wasn't announced all-star picked as an all star. But the kid he's twenty four years old he's still he's in the seventh year in the NBA. Twenty four years old like this. This man is only going to get better and better like I see it on a daily basis. Kobe's he's on a daily basis like he he works his ass off and he's he's GonNa get there at some point just a matter of time went for sure with the White Yeah You know laughter obviously not First Union League and you know I was always digested of boys and You know all you hear around that. Levine's name is dunker dunker. Doug he's Dunker and you know when offer give got there. I didn't realize how effortless he scored the ball Deep as a gay man. You know So you know. Obviously it was a bummer. Not only him but all he did. He didn't make the author game you know. Do you know look at resume and draw season but you know like our stay. He's he's young you know used to. Townsend. He's not like he's going to get worse. He's going to get better over his career. I've like it's time it's coming. You know But are expect the fact that when he didn't make a lot of people could have you know been ranting could have been angry upset ages. Took it as you know what I was? GonNa Continue to get better. Continue to work on my craft. And I'M GONNA I'm GonNa Make All Star Team for sure so he definitely GonNa Making Multiple Times out of his career like I say he's. He's he's he missed the game easy and He works to everyday with a workmanlike attitude. You know Definitely you know a guy that you can look up to you know. Try Try to be like I like what you guys said about. You know the Dunker me. It was you who said that because I think a lot of times certain players come in the league and they have spending people just expect that all the Times but when I look at guys like Blake Griffin who expanded. His gaming wasn't just a dunker. He developed a faith of upper. Could post up a little bit. He wasn't just dunking over cars. I'm seeing that transition the same way with with with Levin and I think that's so important with basketball because when you become a one trick pony you know. He's he's he's diversified his ability to do many different things on the court. I think other people like yourself notice I think you like. Just from the fact that he's worn to dunk contests and he said like they want him to keep doing it. He was like I'm GonNa do the three point shooting in like he. He could if he wanted to. He could probably win the skills competition. If you wanted to. Like is is an all around player. Show we're almost at the halfway point. I'm here with my guys Ryan. Rtd and coby white of Chicago Bulls Talking Lafayette's and everything else make sure you check out any on all social media platforms. They're doing well as being official. I wear of the Chicago Bulls Patches or on the jerseys and they've got the player style and profile the Bulls in theme of the last dance recently hired a new general manager and mark ever sleep. I thought it was perfect. Timing because of everything boils right now of curious from you guys perspective. Would you know about him and have you met him yet? I know too much about him. you know..

Call them a one young but but but I in our conversations over the past year your insights had me seems a little older of wrong at that or you're just quiet Do my research bra you aboard in two thousand by the by the time Michael Jordan made his next or third return or second or third return to the NBA. He was a wizard. And I find it difficult I mean I. I'm curious to know from your perspective. What will your recollections of Michael by? Did you learn from a brother or cousin like wait? How how are we doing this? What are you now? Well Florida For the documentary amount. I mainly just knew from like highlights highlights and watching hardwood classics on TV. I mean my dad my dad and my mom. Obviously they both play basketball so they talking about him a lot. But I mean plan I kind of everybody kind of Michael Jordan Woods but I never really got to see a lot you know and you being a North Carolina of first round. Pick just like Michael and plan for the Bulls. I'm sure there's a level of prestige and kind of seeing it with this energy right now. I WANNA be corny outdated but I would imagine you carry this more of a higher regard because of that connection to Mike. Yeah for sure Like always say to like I. Don't you know? Try to compare myself or they say say stuff about it but you know I mean. It's a blessing you know for sure to the Commodity Oklahoma and they'll also be joked about a booth you know. Ironically he was last player. Aygun so even a lot to take a wreath at here. We began Xeni frames of Zinni. Blue blocks definitely is a need right now particularly because we're spending a lot of time in front of your screen whether zoom calls whether Ritz instagram live. Facebook live twitter live. What have you? How much are you guys legitimately paying attention to those raids? Those those all those different things as you're going day to day being at home you're talking about like the Blue Light. I take now for sure I mean I. I hope my family was was Danny's I took care of him because everyone is working on either on zoom calls and always on the computer always on their phones ipads whatever the case is and we really don't know that much just yet about like the health of the blue light really like affects our is in the future is the legs and his head of the game. with these delay blocking. I'm always wear my when I'm when I'm looking at the screen. I usually put them on at night after the last couple of hours. Just so I can kind of take by reset my body back to normal and hopefully get a great night's sleep because we know that blue light affects us and it tells her mind that were still awake so I'm always wearing among family up by friends. They love him Kobe. You wear glasses talk about that. Synergy there between that. You wear them and you're protecting your is a from from harmful race. I think it's the best of both worlds for sure Just because especially now because Right now it's not much to do so everybody in their own everybody's on a laptop twenty four seven and So I think as I say the basketball world you know I one of those guys. You know that you stay up late at night on your phone and stuff like that and you know it really. It really does affect you. You know in the blue light glasses really really helps you lie in that regard to if I got it right. The Great Cardi being once said Corona virus is all joking aside. However you guys have been pretty active first of all McCall's barbecue and Goldsboro North Carolina are. I'd never had it but it sounds good. Colby tell me a little bit about your involvement with making donations to essential workers with food at the barbecue spot in your hometown. Yes so I just wanted to do something like it's the time right now. it's not focus on yourself. It's a good time to give back. You know what I'm saying so long. I got my agency my sister my family now. Mccarthy's world from a causes really good Places really good when I come home. It's one of my favorite spots in the My family loves so WE DECIDED TO YOU. Took my Local Hospital Wayne County Hospital You know some food for lunch you know at least I can. Do you know if they're doing that. For patients and allow workers so they help us a lot during this time. That's pretty awesome and Ryan. I know we talked about North Carolina. You know you and I have a Pennsylvania Tie. I have to tell you this when we spoke back in the spring. I set the article in the interview that we did to a local restaurant in the main line of Pennsylvania's campus corner. They all go free Dennis. I'm hoping you being from the area but county area. You have been active with young kids. Safe panicles moment so Just I've talked to a lot of little kids. High School teams even Loyola Chicago spoke to him a little bit as well but anyway I can kinda give back to little kids in Tom what they can be working on during this time now. I know there's not many practices and there's not much jim availability for everyone So being able to work on your game and other creative ways and kind kinda work on your quickness and work on your handle in your driveway or maybe you're just walking around the neighborhood. Whatever the case may be finding a hoop that you can shoot on but just try to do little things Share my experiences of. I'd never always had a gym to be able to go to so I was the same kid that all. These kids are growing up in the driveway. Shoe working on my handle and everything so like I said. Just try to give my experiences Because not everything has been all like in the NBA. My whole career. I really had to grind my way into the NBA Intel about Everything's not perfect. You know this is a bump in the road for everybody in their life over going to be able to get through and move on and try to keep a positive attitude while we're doing it just sounds like he's saying if I can grind like this the shine like that. I like this remark by right now. I mean seriously many basketball game that you both love. Is it difficult kind of sitting at home figuring out next moves? Yeah For sure you know for the most part the game has never been like you know taken away from me as it is now. You know I don't think any of us is used to this like you know. Knock on wood. But I've never had any injuries that prolonged me not to play for a long period of time and this is the first time in my life like I haven't been able to really go. Who WANT TO SO? I mean it's difficult for sure but you know right now. I mean basketball is my life but it's it's a lot more things going on in the world. That's more important than basketball right now. So which leads us back to the last Dance Ryan you born in ninety four Kobe. Born two thousand to ask you Ryan For you you were born around the time that the rockets on their first championship and then you know by the time. They want their second. You were two years old. What was your point of Reference With wasn't much there's probably similar to Kobe's in the fact that I mean I was out on a three or four but I always remember my brother. Who's three years older than me My Dad we were watching. I can't remember specifics. But my brother tells me that we would watch The finals we're watching the finals. When Jordan in ninety eight at the shot against the Jazz and my dad turned up with Western. Said like you're both are gonNA remember this for the rest of your life like kind of watching in our family room watching what? Mj Did this. The second three peat. So that's like the one thing that's always been like a of a memory. I know I was only four years old at the time. But it's always just stuck with me that it's crazy that I played for the Bulls now given the fact that what was a four year old Watching 'EM MJ. Win and make a huge shot in Utah flu game. Everything like that in ninety eight. So that's probably my first and the probably last a Jordan era bull Memory how's your perception of Michael Changed Question for both the Boys Yours? I think I think he's just like you know that he's just like a killer in like everything that he does like. He's like super super competitive. Both on and off the court in like being there are different types of leaders in you're able to see like the leadership that he brought to that team to be able to get the best out of everyone now some people don't think it's the best type of leadership but hey the results speak for themselves and I think we have to respect that and you just see the competitive fire like. I said like gambling on the golf course game like you just. You just wanted to win. It was like a winner win or lose thing even when he lost like. I'm coming back. I'm getting back to work. They want to be able to prepare for the following season. Make sure this doesn't happen again. you guys are fairly young but that doesn't matter a Leah's at age ain't nothing but a number I do have to actress question You Got Klay. Gives Colby Bryant? You guys did play against Michael. When you watch Jordan the documentary his level of competitive spirit. Is there anybody that you observe? That comes close to that and your level of.

"Diagnostic tools and exams and tests online or videos that would then be reviewed by health care professionals elsewhere and basically the goal would be to mitigate how much people have to go to the ER how much they have to go to the hospital how much they have to go to the doctor's office we are at the moment it's taking your life in the end you don't want to be exposed to people so telemedicine is kinda coming into its own and I focused on optometry and vision care business because they seem to be moving faster here on the one hand we all know that online glasses stores like fake zenni optical well they're they're playing a greater and greater role in our Indian classes sales accounting for thirty to forty percent right now of of glasses sales and often at very attractive rates but you still got a few apologies for your eye exam maybe what I thought about it my reporting is a number of companies are working on tools and apps that would allow for at least bare bones example of the kind that would require you to dial your own eyes but you know straight up exams just to see how you're doing and whether your prescription is still good that's going to be happening it's probably going to be happening in the near future and that's yet one more way that people will be able to avoid encounters in places where they could be exposed to possible infection always the skeptic I have a question for you what do we need to be watching for us consumers to make sure that we're dealing with reliable best practices outlets out there when it comes to our online medicine it's a great question and the answer to that is you stick with the brand you understand so you know you go online and you order a pair of pants from L. L. bean you're probably gonna get some decent L. B. intense you order a pair of pants from Joe's payoffs you take a chance it's going to be the same thing now with telemedicine more than likely you're going to see for instance say a nurse practitioner from CVS or Walgreens being able to be accessible via an internet connection well you're probably going to be dealing with the real thing there and I think that's what we're all going to be looking for or just household names that we understand the Lazarus always great to chat with you again David is the business columnist with the LA times.

"Business is there are all powerful and change the market and I've bragged about this before with how dollar shave club in Harry's took on a giant impenetrable giant your last charge so much for blades do you think you were trying to buy the factory every time you went to buy blades enjoy what nobody could beat them at the game but now Gillette still a very strong company but its market share going down down down and it really started with dollar shave club in Harry's and there are so many businesses now where disruptors are changing things I think about zenni optical C. N. N. I. optical traded number five by Consumer Reports of all the places you can get glasses and their glasses frames lenses complete you can buy prescription glasses including shipping for under fifteen Bucks this is extra important because you have the eyeglass cartel it's been driving the cost of prescriptions for glasses higher and higher and higher is they bought up various competitors all around the world they skirted around anti trust laws buying up more more players and creating this world wide cartel one prescription glasses but then there are these disruptors zero there are more and more online sellers there's the one that's not fifteen dollars but Warby Parker that is gone into retail centers and sells online for a fraction of what you pay for the cartel for glasses and hi I got the pair I'm wearing right now are they a beautiful pair glasses there from Costco wholesale and they were so inexpensive verses white people are paying now for glasses if they think they're supposed to spend hundreds and hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of dollars on glasses you are not and this is happening in business after business my wife and I have a mattress in our home that we did buy from Costco it's one of those compressed mattresses in a box that year bring home and you cut it you cut that thing open a special way and then it becomes like popcorn in the old days when the jiffy pop popcorn comes alive it was a fraction of what we paid for our mattress before and is so much more comfortable it's hard to believe we paid like six hundred and something for king was five ninety nine or six ninety nine I forgot Amazon selling a lot of these beds and and there are chilling off what was before shared monopoly in the betting market but you don't have to be Amazon you don't have to be Costco you can be a person with an industry that you're frustrated it is charging too much innovating to model and come up with a new way to do it at a cheaper price there are so many different examples I could give of where that's happened with so many different product categories and not always like my kinda thing being extra cheap but doing it better in a quick one price to what the monopoly or near monopoly is doing in the market innovation outsiders that's how you break these choke holes no I gave an example recently I can't wait still the cable monopolies are busted around the country by new technologies it'll be low orbit satellites for internet and various wireless technologies they're going to bring high speed internet to homes and businesses and the price of what you pay is going to collapse in the speeds so much better and then the customer no service you're used to from monopoly players like a cable monster well they don't fix that their dad the end is with us on the Clark Howard show I've been a car carrier great thank you Ben you got a a philosophical question for me the ideal so I'm looking to you for five six years now pretty soon out of college and really have a lot of everything I've learned in the last year though I learned about a thing called financial independence which I think the people who listen to you I think would fit into that mold and recently a different kind of financial spokesperson really came down hard on people who don't even matter I cannot really believe it too and so I thought you know what I'm going to switch up the car can get a feel for what he thinks about the concept of principle behind it well I've called inside just a term that originated with me before the concept of a fire movement came along I called it Max savers and that's it and again that term didn't originate with me the idea that if you can wave on half of what you may and coming right out of school if you weren't aware of on every other check it changes the entire trajectory of your life and generally by your early forties if you live on half of what you make you will have saved enough money and lived a lifestyle they will make it possible for you at that point to be completely independent financially and if you don't want to work again you likely won't have to but really it's more about you being totally in charge of the choices you make in your life yeah somebody works hard enough and sacrifices hard enough to be able to live on half of what they make is it doing it so that they never have to work again it's usually so that they have the choice to do what they want to do the rest of their lives Sir Dan have you been living on a fraction of what you make sense you I started listening or since you got out of school or what's your track record of building yeah about the school probably early on about a forty percent savings rate and right now I'm probably more up to like sixty to seventy wow so I would put myself definitely Maxine waters category and and like you said it for me it's not so much of Hey I wanna never work again in my life I mean I want the option could potentially do that really I see it more on the road to freedom and ability to do whatever you choose what exactly did you get there and you know the people who were who really has been not supportive of what's now coined as the fire movement which is financial independence retire early it's a real idea with real stuff behind it whatever you call it what do you call it Max saver whether you call it fire with you just talk about the financial independent side of fire the idea is that instead of feeling a prisoner to your bills and wherever you work you're in charge and you make the choices you choose to make and so we you by saving now sixty to seventy percent of what you may you are in a position to be able to make the choices you're going to make in your life and as you pile up more and more money it gives you increasing amounts of freedom to make the decisions you want to make so I'm totally supportive of you are you doing anything though that others would look at and say man spends having no fun in life because he won't even fill in the blank you know honestly I feel like I lived a great life presidents over the years doing what my wife has been a whole life probably four or five times and been married nine years so we travel quite a bit and we I definitely think we deprive ourselves although we definitely could spend more money we could you know by chance your house or cars but choose not to do that exactly and you know you mentioned the two areas there end up eating up people's budgets more than any other and that's housing and cars those two things are white become our brutal expenses and there needs to be a philosophy and he was that you wanted to reach on a house and by the biggest fanciest house you could qualify for I think now there's more of an understanding that that's not where it's at because that monthly payment the overhead of it the property taxes become an albatross instead of a benefit over time so keep doing what you're doing I feel good how can I ask you a cat here related question of course okay so part of this idea is to be able to reduce your monthly expenses and right now I have a fifteen year online I hope mortgage and I already you know Max out my four oh one K. and my wife I rate my I. R. A. think of that nature so we we don't have more to go there and I know you you typically discourage people from other paying down the mortgage but at some point for me that really does level where I don't have to work anymore it would be awesome to have that mortgage gone so at what point in your philosophy would you say yeah pain down extra on your mortgage will get rid of that obligation okay thing to do now you're talking to somebody who's mortgage debt free and despises mortgages and I carry no good at all and you know if you looked at it strictly from priorities there would be people particularly in financial planning I would say no you should actually put more money in investment accounts but let's talk about the practicality of having a roof over your head that you don't have a monthly mortgage for the value of that particularly as you hit that threshold where you've saved enough money that you would not have to work again unless you wanted to if you want to do now that you've.

"Of discounters for eyeglasses who have actually in offering classes at lower and lower prices prescription frames lenses the whole thing complete at a tiny fraction of what the cartel costs and so did you narrow the you can get a pair of prescription glasses frames lenses complete lot of times from the discounters for as little as fifteen dollars one five dollars less than most people pay for sun glasses non prescription sunglasses and there are any of a number of discounters at our softest counters hard discounters name between well because of people looking for the places that have lower prices and not knowing who does a good job and who doesn't Consumer Reports in their March issue has put together ratings of the best discounters to go to for your glasses so you stay away from the hideous price increases of the eyeglass cartel so number one with an incredibly high rating is cosco optical number two Warby Parker and number three the biggest of the deep discounters zenni optical dot com that what's fascinating is every single discounter Consumer Reports rated got at least a good score so even if you didn't go to Costco Warby Parker is any optical of all the places they rated they all all the discounters did a good job even one there in their name advertises that they offer ultra ultra cheap prices by stating the price of what you pay total for any hair glasses you buy from them so if you are getting a new pair of glasses you get going the eye doctor getting a new prescription no that yes because in the past you went to some big chain and got your glasses know that you can easily get a good pair of eyeglasses under a hundred dollars even if you wear bifocals progressives tried vocals whatever if you use one of the deep discounters you can get those well below a hundred dollars total frames lenses complete and if you go to Costco or Warby Parker they're not as cheap is some of the others but again they are the highest rated and their scores are so high I bet they outrank any of the traditional marketplace sellers of eye glasses if you wear contacts one eight hundred contacts is now.

"You a great favor I saw a story in the LA times how this is pretty much infested so many of the big banks it is spreading now to the regional banks there are entering into these partnerships to try to make money off of your personal data I despise this and the reality is if you don't want your purchases tract or there are certain purchases of a sensitive nature to you Hey you don't want to be being catalogued and analyze through those purchases you just gotta pay with cash I mean I can't believe I'm saying this in an era where people that even thinking about it pay for things with their watches or their phones or with seem so dated now pulling out a piece of plastic in using yet so using your watch your phone who knows what's next year I ball anyway the ease of use of that is something then so we become creatures of habit and that's how we do things but at the very least if there are purchases you make it for whatever reason you might find embarrassing if that became known later or let's say in your email so we know you want to shop at so and so here's an offer for you it could be something of a very personal nature if it's something like that pay with cash lemonade the ability for the bank to be spying on you and trying to profit from those for transactions you're doing the you want to be private in the first place Colleen is with us on the Clark Howard show high calling mark how are you great thank you Colleen and I'm able with my good progressive lenses to see what you're going to ask me about yeah I am looking for inexpensive progressive glasses and I was looking on the internet and it kind of all over the place well in good quality yeah so according to Consumer Reports place where quality and price meet if you're really end up price is going to be at zenni optical okay I looked there and the difference between them and another one was two hundred ninety five dollars versus twenty four dollars so zenni at twenty four dollars you're like how could it possibly be any good right yeah because some of the comments from buyers with that they would she not sturdy frame well my teenage daughter would respectfully disagree with those posts okay she wears zenni optical glasses and I have a pair is any optical glasses I have a pair from Costco and I have a back up pair from zenni okay I'm really happy to Costco I'm sorry okay cosco or ordering online no Costco has the absolute highest rating from Consumer Reports of any place you could get eye glasses but they're not is cheap is you're gonna find friends any and so the the difference with cosco you're gonna pay more but everything is top top drawer in terms of quality and service they're so inexpensive from zenni that what I recommend to you go ahead and order the ultra cheap pair you saw their trial if you don't like them you can always go spend more money that's a good point and you may find that like other people that were griping how that they didn't like this that or the other you may be on their side of it but zenni is booming because most people really are happy with the quality they get from zenni excellent so that all right well that's what I'll do the thing is people have in their minds that you're supposed to spend hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of dollars on a pair of prescription glasses but there's nothing that says you have to and zenni has a lot of there are a lot of companies selling really inexpensive eye glasses as well as any but nobody has proven over time to have a good enough service reputation there I think that that is the safe spot you want if you want to order that sounds good at twenty one order I've always been hundreds and hundreds of dollars on glasses and I'm sick and tired of it so think about it if you end up liking what you say this any was twenty four thirty four which you say it was twenty four dollars for progressive lenses complete everything your frames and lenses or is that just for the when's isn't self everything and then if I want to add a tip to that then you can start adding money to them okay well that is incredibly dirt cheap obviously yeah and if you are happy with the experience you save so much money if you're like these glasses or okay you have a very inexpensive back up pair and then you can go spend more money but I bet even if you went to Costco you'd likely save half the cost of what you've been paying historically for glasses so I mean you're gonna do fine no matter what changing your normal pattern but if it were my money it were me I would give this any is a try first and if you end up with the your Rica moment look out much money I'm saving what a deal for you John is with us on the Clark our channel hello John Clark how are you today thank you John I am so excited you have a teenager who's earning a huge annual income well she's sixteen and she for about three years has been making little stop motion animation videos that she goes on her YouTube channel and years ago they started to take off and yeah she's making a lot more money than we certainly expected anybody could we are are trying to figure out exactly what to do with it there's a pretty good chunk of money sitting in a savings account it's been there that I I know from listening to you for years basically invented smarter than it is there's a second legal to that question and that is that my daughter actually has the legal system hi Brent this which is you know a genetic disease with a potentially somewhat shortened lifespan which is sort of difficult to talk about but it's our reality well except except on the positive side I'm always told in Pollyanna on everything is that her lifespan would still be a decent way into adulthood probably right sure and during the decades that would be between her being sixteen and then who knows what medical or scientific advancements there would be that would extend both of her lifespan and improve the quality of our life that's very true and and we are certainly you know we stay in touch with the CF community and there are lots of pretty amazing things on the horizon and of course we are in a hopeful and she is you know very healthy and help your I think than many if not most people with CF spell that's great but we had it I guess it brought me to the reason I have been stuck for a couple years knowing how to invest this money I assume like that I'm listening to you that the dental yes simplified employee pension might be the kind of thing to invest your money and but my worry is it's quite a chance that we might need to call that money out you know long before retirement age and do you have an able she eligible for naval account I'm not sure I even know what that is enable account is where you're allowed to put fifteen thousand dollars into an account it works like a Roth IRA and it's for people who have certain disabilities and CF people you're in touch with you would be able to tell you whether or not CF qualifies for opening a tax free able account and so each year you can have fifteen thousand in that growing tax free that is used for your daughter's medical care and doesn't have to be specifically tied to retirement Roger and it yeah that's exactly why I called you because that's not something I've heard of it all and I just had a feeling that we would be sticking his money way you know for years and and that her income is growing every month so it looks like it's going to continue for at least a little while so we got a couple of ways to approach both issues so she's able eligible you'd be able to put up to fifteen grand and that and then otherwise you mentioned the set out she also might work as an alternative at something known as the sole lower self employed for a one K. right and that would allow her to put aside up to eighteen thousand five hundred of our earnings and yet and she can go wrong with a regular see the beauty of the Roth is it the contributions to a raw can be withdrawn at anytime tax and penalty free so they're not that old after a time is never taxed never yeah you do a rock you don't get a current out front benefit but the money grows tax free and it spread tax free and retirement but there's a twist to it where only beat earnings have to be left in till retirement age and the contributions can be withdrawn at anytime so at the point she might need medical care or for any other purpose to draw on the money she's able to draw on their contributions portion without having to worry about any tax penalties anything not yet a contribution court should be the lines here that for quite a while you were you in the short term yeah yeah yeah so the able which is checked out first check no I didn't say I'd say you if she's able eligible you do both otherwise you'd at least to the self employed for one K. so the able for able and then the the second one you mentioned the book was that for a one call what was that one self employed or solo it's called both four oh one K. solo for one K. that's again something I've never heard of yeah that's what that's great out that's exactly the kind of thing that will allow me to forward because I've been just kind of at a standstill and my wife your money to call you because I talk about you all the time at our house also won the able if you if you do a whatever search engine use Google or whatever put in the search able account AB Ali I now you'll see are able what cal rules you'll see whether or not I especially you and you can tell from it if she meets the qualifications under what are called allowances conditions okay and then she'd be good to go potentially that is the actual device I I had the feeling you have some knowledge of something I didn't know anything about and would you would you on my behalf congratulate your daughter on her industriousness and what an able to produce at sixteen and then come in yet that's what's so neat about the platforms available today where an individual even not AT adulthood is able to find something that entertains people were informs them and is able to generate an income and that's just great stuff you're listening to the Clark Howard show your home is important that's why geico helps make it easy to save on homeowners insurance because home is more than just a place home is.

"Your wallet coming up later so many people face burdens of debt you're trying to get under control well there's an app for that that will help you take one of the most annoying of debts and Whittle it down a dollar at a time when talk right now about something that so many people can use but don't choose to and that's being able to do an FSA a flexible spending account I use an FSA every year where I put pre tax dollars in your employer has to participate FSA point by the way put pre tax dollars into the FSA and then that money can be used for my medical deductibles prescription costs and non prescription costs in my case I get a card from the studio there has a pig on it and the cycle of the pig card and when I have an out of pocket medical expense I present the pig card and it takes money from my flexible spending account and pays that so think about the advantage of the FSA if I've got to buy something medical and remember it can be over the counter stuff as well instead of spending after tax dollars I'm spending before tax dollars and there are limits on how much you can put aside each year and the money cannot be carried forward from one year to another which freaks a lot of people out and they don't participate in FSA's because of that reason because they're worried what happens if I don't get sick or don't need a prescription or don't need this Saturday the other the company gets to keep my money I want to take another part of that if you change jobs during the year and you've already spent that whole years FSA money the company was this is that's right bay fronted you the money that you'd said you put aside for a whole year and then on that side of the coin they lose so it all evens out but the advantage of paying out of pocket medical tax is so great so just if you're nervous about it when it comes time to whenever your employer's open enrollment is and your offer the FSA just tiny steps put in some money that you now you'll spend over the course of the year and out of pocket for medical and then when you blow through that in a few months of the following year then next semi of open enrollment maybe I'll put in more and maybe more the most I ever for fit in in a year is still bothers me which is a hundred and eighty dollars and change that had a real healthy here in the household and didn't use up all the FSA money in that could is said to me out man I got burned I'm not gonna do it all because the long term benefit is so great want to say something about over the counter not everything you buy over the counter qualifies and you want to get in a position where you buy something over the counter and then later it ends up being disallowed so it's pretty simple in your employer plan they'll give you examples usually online of what things you can buy over the counter that will qualify for money you spend for your FSA Ruth is with us on the Clark Howard show Ruth yes hi one four rise to another here they glances or outrageously expensive no they're not maybe where you're going they are I'm going to the wrong place so that's why I'm calling you what can I do well how much you paying right now for a pair of glasses frames lenses complete I have on my face right now I bought a year and a half ago and I will I'm twenty foods to price them out and they were over five hundred dollars five hundred dollars for the lancers can you believe it I I cannot believe it are you wearing some kind of incredibly fancy designer frame of some that are heard I've narrowed are you wearing try focal wheels or something like that now I have my my one night is more correction necessary than other due to a failed Leszek surgery yeah that was a long time ago other than that on here in the scratch resistant and they are the McCollum progress a license right so progressives you can get progressives for about one tenth of what you're paying now that's why I'm calling you because I I recently had a full the it was it was fine I just had a black eye my glasses for my face and now I have like those scratcher in NYC in one of the lenders I can't afford to replace the the five hundred dollars I want to try a house a company called zenni optical C. N. N. I. optical dot com they sell single vision glasses starting at about ten dollars a pair yours all started about thirty dollars a pair complete Gary is with us on the Clark Howard show hello Gary how are you great thank you Gerry you have a story for me about one of the four giant monster mega banks I do I'm getting tired of them making money on my money what have they done to you this time all this time they're charging me because I did want to much cash wait say what I deposit so much cash more I'm told my my my you're seriously you have a you have a business of some kind I do and so you end up with daily cash receipts and they're telling you that you bring them too much money and so that you're going to pay a penalty for bringing them too much money yes and I was told reason why is because I am so much money and buy so much change they need to pay the towers to process my business okay this isn't a joke is it no absolutely not I got charge fifty two dollars and forty cents last month so you know what I want you to do don't you because the holy cow that's right I went to the fire and go in where you live Gary how many little banks are there around you there's a there's a there's a bunch yeah I go in and if it's a little if it truly is a little bank and not one that's masquerading as a little bank you're going to meet with the bank see our bank president talk to him or her about your business how your business operates and you're looking for a new home for your banking leaving one of the four giant monster magos and you'll know I mean you'll know right away based on the availability of the CEO to meet with you and the attitude here she presents to you if that's a new home to do your banking because I mean the arrogance telling you you're using our services to much of our bank giving us money Missy I thought that banks were all about taking deposits from you so they could then when the money out to other people but they're telling you they can't be bothered with your money which to me is a clear signal they shouldn't be your bank you should not suffer from bank appears I agree I agree I just want to make it known they do quite at me every month but the fact that only because you make a fuss right correct and they said they would still continue to do it but they can't stop the the charges from coming but they can currently every month so that just tells me it's all junk fees you know speaking of Banco notice Trina bank abuse I always feel bad for good people that work for organizations that are any consumer in a in any organization will have a lot of good people working for them and all they do all day long as they have to apologize for what a crummy company they work for I mean think how awful that is to have to do that so when you find a great place to have your your business and you go to close in there somebody at that bank is always been good to you tell him Hey I went to this other place they're so nice to people maybe someday you'll want to work there instead of the crummy place you work now Judy joins us on the Clark Howard show hello Judy later Clark would you finance that canyon night gallery of your advice and hope to get your opinion on this well we're going to talk about your daughter who wants to open her own BMP there we go that's the one has she seen old re runs of Bob Newhart running IBM be or something I'm I'm not quite sure it's a bit of a control racial subject with their parents because we don't feel we have enough info so we don't want to discourage her without knowing a little bit more about the field well I'll tell you my advice anytime anybody has considered opening a BMP yeah has always been the same when that was really really the thing to do twenty years ago okay in all the way forward has always been to go work as an employee at somebody else's BMP okay exactly the five I have had other of many and the reason I say that is there's an idealized work at what owning a BMB is light but the fern out rate on BMB ownership is huge is it really that was my next question is there any data run now what what percent bail out I used to know that number I don't anymore but it seems a lot more exciting than it actually is running at one you're running a small hotel but it was a high service hotel because you have to have the personality where you're engaging with people morning noon and night you're taking reservations you are feeding people breakfast you're having to clean the rooms when they go you're having to give them your the concierge you're telling him where the greatest places to go do blah blah blah you're dealing with check ins in the evening I mean it is it is Sirius Sirius work and it's three hundred sixty five days a year tackling so it sounds like you and I are having the same conversation with each other that you've been having in your head I think so and if I were to tell you did she would be spending a substantial amount of her assets including her saved for retirement money would probably have even more John just the with all that well and also the reason you don't hear as much about BMPs if the irony of it is it's because of the website Airbnb dot com okay is Airbnb disrupted the bed and breakfast market in the United States and I guess in other countries as well related this fuzzy kind of thing where people are renting rooms in their houses they're running their own place they're renting an investment property whatever and it is made what was really a unique corner of the lodging market no longer unique okay so that's why I would want her to go spend several months working and one even one that that she's considering buying Tellem she wants to operate it for a period of time and they had the profits just so she can experience it and see if it really is what she wants to go all in on high tech excellent idea well thank you and when she gets mad at you you tell or be mad at me they are my phone number have a call and I'll tell where the same thing okay well thank you ever so much I can't think of any other questions other than the fact that there seems to be obviously of fail rate here in the not too because it's not the fail rate it's once people realize they don't want to do it is not necessarily the bed and breakfast closes is that the person who bought it is like what was I thinking why am I in this business listening to the Clark Howard show.

"Data on us from all the transactions we do the debit card uses it for use a debit card credit card uses where we write checks on many cases what we're actually buying in banks now our entering into either joint ventures for hiring services did actually dig deep into the purchases you're making using a particular banks credit or debit card or account of any kind and then try to monetize that either by selling your information to others for more commonly having offers tailored for you they said they paid she was if they're doing you a great favor I saw a story in the LA times how this is pretty much infested so many of the big banks it is spreading now to the regional banks there are entering into these partnerships to try to make money off of your personal data I despise this and the reality is if you don't want your purchases tract or there are certain purchases of a sensitive nature to you Hey you don't want to be being catalogued and analyze through those purchases you just gotta pay with cash I mean I can't believe I'm saying this in an era where people without even thinking about it pay for things with their watches or their phones or with our eyes seem so dated now pulling out a piece of plastic in using yet so using your watch your phone who knows what's next year I ball anyway the ease of use of that is something and so we become creatures of habit and that's how we do things but at the very least if there are purchases you make it for whatever reason you might find embarrassing if that became known later or let's say in your email so we know you want to shop at so and so here's an offer for you it could be something of a very personal nature if it's something like that pay with cash lemonade the ability for the bank to be spying on you and trying to profit from those transactions you're doing the you want to be private in the first place Colleen is with us on the Clark Howard show hi Colleen Hey mark how are you great thank you Colleen and I'm able with my good progressive lenses to see what you're going to ask me about yes I am looking for inexpensive progressive glasses sh and I was looking on the internet and isn't it kind of all over the place well what can good quality yeah so according to Consumer Reports place where quality and price meat if you're really end of price is going to be at zenni optical okay I looked there and the difference between them and another one was two hundred ninety five dollars versus twenty four dollars so Zinni at twenty four dollars you're like how could it possibly be any good right yeah because some of the comments from buyers was that they would she not sturdy frame well my teenage daughter would respectfully disagree with those posts but she wears zenni optical glasses and I have a pair is any optical glasses I have a pair from Costco and I have a back up pair from sending okay I'm really happy to Costco I'm sorry are they issued a cosco or ordering online no Costco has the absolute highest rating from Consumer Reports of any place you could get eye glasses but they're not is cheap is you're gonna find from zenni and so the the difference with cosco you're gonna pay more but everything is top top drawer in terms of quality and service they're so inexpensive from zenni that what I recommend to you go ahead and order the ultra cheap pair you saw their triumph if you don't like them you can always go spend more money that's a good point then you may find that like other people that were griping how that they didn't like this that or the other you may be on their side of it but zenni is booming because most people really are happy with the quality they get from zenni excellent so that all right well that's what I'll do the thing is people have in their minds that you're supposed to spend hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of dollars on a pair of prescription glasses but there's nothing that says you have to and zenni has a lot of there are a lot of company selling really inexpensive eye glasses as well as any but nobody has proven over time to have a good enough service reputation there I think that that is the safe spot you want if you want to order that sounds good active I do one order I've always been hundreds and hundreds of dollars on glasses and I'm sick and tired of it so think about it if you end up liking would you say this any was twenty four thirty four would you say it was twenty four dollars from progressive lenses is that a complete set everything your frames and lenses or is that just for the lenses themselves it says everything and then if I want to add a tip to that then you can start adding money to them okay well that is incredibly dirt cheap obviously N. and if you are happy with the experience you save so much money if you're like yeah these glasses are okay you have a very inexpensive back up pair and then you can go spend more money but I bet even if you went to Costco you'd likely save half the cost of what you've been paying historically for glasses so I mean you're gonna do fine no matter what changing your normal pattern but if it were my money it were me I would give this any so try first and if you're a hand up with the your Rica moment look how much money I'm saving what a deal for you John is with us on the Clark our chill hello John Clark how are you today thank you John I am so excited you have a teenager who's earning a huge annual income well she's sixteen and she for about three years in the making little stop motion animation videos that she posts on her YouTube channel and years ago they started to take off and yeah she's making a lot more money than we certainly expected the body good and we are are trying to figure out exactly what to do with it there's a pretty good chunk of money sitting in a savings account it's been there that I I know from listening to you for years base to be invested smarter than it is there's a second wrinkle to this question and that is that my daughter actually has the legal system fibrosis which is you know a genetic disease with that attention a somewhat shorten lifespan which is sort of difficult to talk about but it's our reality well except except on the positive side I'm always told on poly and on everything is that her lifespan would still be a decent length into adulthood probably right sure and during the decades that would be between her being sixteen and then who knows what medical or scientific advancements there would be that would extend both of her lifespan and improve the quality of our life that's very true and and we are certainly you know we stayed in touch with the CF community and there are lots of pretty amazing things on the horizon and of course we are in a hopeful and she is you know very healthy and help your I think than many if not most people with CF so that's great but we had it I guess it brought me to the reason I have been stuck for a couple years knowing how to invest this money I assume like that I'm listening to you that potentially a simplified employee pension might be the toughest thing to invest her money and but my worry is there's quite a chance that we might need to call that money out you know long before retirement age and do you have an able she eligible for naval account I'm not sure I even know what that is enable account is where you're allowed to put fifteen thousand dollars into an account it works like a Roth IRA and it's for people who have certain disabilities and CF people you're in touch with would be able to tell you whether or not CF qualifies for opening a tax free able account and so each year you can have fifteen thousand in that growing tax free that is used for your daughter's medical care and doesn't have to be specifically tied to retirement gotcha and it yeah that's what exactly what I called you because that's not something I've heard of it all and I just had a feeling that we would be sticking his money way you know for years and and that her income is growing every month so it still looks like it's going to continue for at least a little while so we got a couple of ways to approach both issues so she's able eligible you'd be able to put up to fifteen grand and that and then otherwise you mention the set up she also might look as an alternative at something known as the solo or self employed for a one K. right and that would allow her to put aside up to eighteen thousand five hundred of our earnings and it yet and she can go wrong with our regular see the beauty of the Roth is it the contributions to a Roth can be withdrawn at anytime tax and penalty free so they did not act themselves after a time is never taxed never yeah you do a rock you don't get our current up front benefit but the money grows tax free and it smacked tax free and retirement but there's a twist to it where only the earnings have to be laughed Dion till retirement age and the contributions can be withdrawn at anytime so at the point she might need medical care or for any other purpose to draw on the money she's able to draw on their contributions portion without having to worry about any tax penalties anything Dr Emmet contribution court should be the lines here that for quite awhile in the short short term yeah yeah yeah so the able which is checked out first check check no I would say I'd say you if she's able eligible you do both otherwise you'd at least do the self employed for one K. so the able for able and then the the second one you mentioned to do both was this for a one call what was that one self employed or solo it's called both four oh one K. solo for one case you that's again something I've never heard that yeah that's what that's great yeah that's exactly the kind of thing that will allow me to forward because I've been just kind of at a standstill and my wife reminded me to call you because I talk about you all the time at our house also won the able if you if you do a whatever search engine you use Google or whatever put in the search able account a B. Ellie are now you'll see are able what cal rules you'll see whether or not I especially you and you can tell from it if she meets the qualifications under what are called allowances conditions okay and then she'd be good to go potentially that is the actual device I I had the feeling you have some knowledge of something I didn't know anything about him were you were you were on my behalf congratulate your daughter on her industriousness and what were an able to produce at sixteen and then come in yet that's what's so neat about the platforms available today where an individual even not AT adulthood is able to find something that entertains people were informs them and is able to generate an income and that's just great stuff you're listening to the Clark Howard show all.

"A hundred thousand from the sale of the home if you were to take fifty six years fifty is a number and you put it towards the one twenty in student loan debt you will have made an enormous difference and the balance on those loans in the interests that you would have you'd have that balance down from one twenty to seventy thousand dollars every dollar you pay towards alone so much more of it would go to interest and principal instead of interest I mean I don't think you should look at this is the start paying of let's get rid of the student loans completely and then figure out how we're going to qualify for a construction loan and permanent financing on a new home I think you need to look at both of those things as a package okay so I think you could do not quite half a loaf and be in good shape okay because again if you take the one twenty down the seventy what that monthly payments going to be on the student loans will be greatly reduced right they I'm sure with the refinance somehow maybe get a better interest rate dropped the years that she goes left on okay so with student loans they give you a payment schedule you can always on your own pay more on that but if she you you wipe out a big balance the student loans they will probably with the typical student loan there will be a different expected payment each month anyway okay I and again congratulations to you for being in a position where you're gonna clear so much equity on the sale of your existing home look at the options it's opening up for you Sarah is with us on the cart couch hello Serra hello I wanted to ask about glasses sure recommendations are so much cheaper than opticians and I'm just wondering how that's even possible like it sounds too good to be true like you say one hundred two hundred dollars at the doctor's office but some of these other places are like twenty Bucks right so the one that has the highest volume for culture and expensive prescription glasses is there any C. E. N. N. I. and zenni optical you can get a simple pair of prescription glasses with frames lenses complete for including shipping charge I think it's about thirteen dollars you can.

"Just on the very day this came up I read a story fine market watch there there's a new three D. process for making frames there are so many frames are made that end up not being used then it's far more efficient to a custom made frame it is custom designed for you are you custom designed at our website and make it exactly as you want it to be or the shape of your face the style you like and the rest and this is something that is already happening in other countries and almost certainly will be here really really soon there are hundreds of these devices now available that are being used then well actually much of the world except he so you know it's coming and then I'll be able I have an unusually narrow face and usually I would wear kids frames but now I have to wear something called progressive lenses and the kids frames don't have enough depth to hold the progressive lenses so I have to get the smallest adult frames I can get one just imagine if I could have a custom frame done and it was able to exactly suit the style my wife likes and fits my face exactly so what I worked out with my wife is we're going on the website zenni optical and she's going to pick out the frames that she wants to see me where and then we'll get a pair of those so I learned an important lesson happy wife happy level I knew that when but I I kind of forgot it for a second and should have had her with me again because I have no fashion sense and you know that's true if you've ever seen me out and about and see how I dress obviously I have no fashion sense that all Susan's weather's park hours show ice isn't hello Clark how are you great thank you Susan I understand that something I've recommended to you hasn't cause you a problem well not so much of a problem as an irritation I would say my me here okay so I went on to credit karma I've been a credit karma number for many years I saw where you had said that they had like pre approved credit card offers a personal loan officers so I thought well okay I would like to consolidate some of my dad to a lower interest rate so there was a number of personal loan offers underneath of the credit card offers and so I looked at them but I never click the box that said take offers all I did was click on where it says learn more and I really didn't think anything of it until I started getting a bunch of emails from these creditors saying that well we can complete your application because your reports are frozen as you told us to deal with especially since I was a victim of identity theft and I was like wait a minute I know life for anything so I'm confused as to how that happened so all right when I'm guessing and I'll be a Guinea pig to all all go through and all click on and see you did the debt consolidation thing is that like where they had like a bunch of personal loan offers yeah and you know like for a cheaper interest rates hang on my card sure okay so I will be I'll do it too and see if I then get deluged with offers so you didn't apply for any of them you just you just looked at them and then before I knew it you were getting barraged with people who wanted to sell you one consolidations that's exactly right so on the website but the credit card the credit karma website where those personal loan offers are there's like I don't know eight or ten of the and they say we can lend you ought to ex number of dollars and your interest rate could be as low ads whatever it was and then underneath so bad there's a place where you can click that says learn more and then it goes into more detail about you know however long you might take it for a one third interest rates are and off to the right there is a box to collect that says take offer I never clicked that take off a box all right so I'm not working right now I gotta give you bad news before you even get to that step there is this thing that comes up it says we're on the look out for better rates will share your profile information with participating partners from time to time to see if you have offers refined offers we think you'd like we'll send you alerts so they they tell you up front if you go through that shopping exercise even not even not clicking on any of the actual offers they've already told you that they're gonna make your information available to people that are paying full okay I see what the deal is now what's what is it says no sales calls so did you get only emails or do you get actual phone calls no I got emails okay like a bunch of dumb yeah so that seems like what's what's gonna happen so what do you know who is looks like what they're intending to happen to you and so I I think they they go back and look at it because you won't go to the step where is that going to generate all that right you'll see this thing that tells you that they're gonna sherry you know I information with participating partners and that's where you end up with getting the one email after another after another and I'm hope those have not been too much of a hassle for you Albert's with us on the Clark Howard show hello Albert Schnee court how are you great thank you Albert Hey listen just wanted to ask to get your opinion on this a couple years ago I cut my cable a it's been a lot of research I got a digital type antenna so I got all my local channels for free and notice the picture was better than you were getting from the pay TV provider before all yeah it was a lot better I mean it's the money where I live that is kind of in a wooded area so sometimes when the trees start swinging no you know it's a little stormy you know you get the pixelated but you know other than that you know is forty so I'm you know I'm good with that show band and along with that I got another internet cable provider in the works great so just checking you know often on just to see what you know is out there on the the current one that I have went up in price and now there's other ones that I can get cheaper died we do not have the a light when I came across of Sandra not gonna name the company but this other cable internet cable providers that it just seems too good to be true is provides like two kids Ilene channels for twenty dollars a month and if you want to go with the premium they gives you two hundred more channels for a total of twenty five dollars a month now just wondering if you guys ever heard of that yeah I'm very familiar with this and so this one gives you like every pay TV channel there as I mean pretty much everywhere gives you every sports channel there as gives you adult content everything all thrown in for twenty five dollars a month because they're stealing it so they're charging you twenty five for what they're stealing okay and so the reason there you go look at these channel packages and there are you know twenty five to sixty dollars a month depending on which streaming product you do that's pretty much the the scale in the market place and you know you might get forty channels from this one fifty from another sixty from another then somebody comes on and says again to give you eight hundred channels for the lowest possible price the only way they're doing it and there are several of these pirates they're called pirate services there are several of them out there and they steal the content but make their money by charging you the three hundred dollars a year so once they get found out the seven down and then you lose the money yes Sir well there were risky is it's kind of like do you remember back when people would steal music yeah it's the same kind of thing and I don't know of anybody being prosecuted for stealing video programming but it is against the law to steal video programming and Hey I don't know that you want to help parents no no I will I will just continue to evens invalid checked and I'm looking at the website right now and and and it looks so legit absolutely they all do all the pirate services services work completely like Hey this is mainstream is just the best deal ever right right when a legitimate provider has to pay each month for the channels that they put out there is so much that this is no way this is a okay Scott's with us on the Clark our chill hi Scott hello are you great thank you Scott but you got an unpleasant nasty gram and the mail didn't you well I sure did I sure did we bought this long term care insurance policy from all large company about ten years ago and the are under the we agreed to the payment we made the payment all along but the payment to resume over the period of time from about a hundred and sixty three up to four hundred and forty eight a month and where we just can't afford any more beer retired on checks in coming back then you've always advocating having long term care insurance for people in my financial records if you will and looks like you're not going to happen now like the former been able to read our articles that tell me over the past five years or so that their costs and written Britain's so rapidly that down there is a broken present business model you're right it's a completely broken business model and there used to be perhaps more than a thousand insurance companies selling long term care insurance yeah now it's down to maybe ten okay everybody lost their shirts because we lived longer than people thought we don't have and we live sicker than people thought we would be and also the costs for the insurers have been just incredibly high and long term care insurance is not sold it guaranteed premium right so the price rises are hideous and so many people end up in a position like you are facing you're like fifty five hundred dollars a year in premiums now yes it's that kind of price they're like Hey I'd like to have the stop it Hey no way I can have it so your one suggestion I can I guess my biggest question now is do you recommend another vehicle or you don't get this the end result but I'm looking for well how old are you seventy three seventy three probably not so what I would suggest then they may have offered you the option of reducing the amount of coverage the policy gives you so you can get a cheaper premium yes I have a right there are three options one I can keep making.

twenty five dollars fifty five hundred dollars three hundred dollars twenty dollars sixty dollars five years ten years

"To join us here on the Clark Howard show where it's about you learning ways to keep more of what you may coming up later there's a big fight about what's going on with the price of chicken what does that have to do with the you all fell yeah so I've gotten a lot of calls from people who have been suddenly worried about the possibility that somebody's gonna steal their home right out from under them it is because of an obscure crime that happens very rarely where somebody will do fraudulent documents and sell your home right out from under you what's known his deeds staffed and the theft most often happens to people who have vacation home our second home or something like that where they're not they are a whole lot and criminals will spot that Mel thing Hey Hey same mortgage on this house and so bell go through an elaborate process if they need other dishonest players involved with like lawyers and stuff involved in the transactions and so they do false paperwork and create new ownership take out a mortgage against it equity strip the house and suddenly that place you have you don't own any more it is a herbal terrible crime it's something that first came up during the real estate bust last decade when there was so much chaos but is far is happening today it's a fairly rare occurrence enter the companies that are heavily promoting a service that they claim will protect your home from somebody stealing it typically you'll pay somewhere a couple hundred dollars a year for this protection plan protection service and I have discourage people from getting involved will now in the August issue of Kiplinger's personal finance there is an article about not only should you not spend this money but now because of what happened last decade loom great number of counties around the country where this had been a problem will allow you to register with them for notifications of any activity that happens involving the title to a home that you own so that's even better than paying one of these monitoring services where the local government in order to try to prevent criminal fraud has an alert system all you have to do is check with the county where you have a property see if they offer a notification service if they do register for let's say the county where you own a property doesn't have such a thing what's your tip off if you start getting unusual mail about the place you have like real estate agents one inquire about your listing for the property or anything like that that's a key tip off to you that somebody may be playing games out there trying to run off with your property so it is a very very rare crime very unusual and it's with everything else we have to worry about this is one that you can generally rest easy on Ryan is with us on the Clark Howard show hello Ryan hi Clark Ryan you got a question for me about trying to help out your mom yeah my wife and I were thinking of co signing for a rent lease for her she doesn't make a lot of money and she replied I looked at an apartment where they will want to turn to make three times the ranch in income and she didn't why do we thought about co signing to make sure that she could get their apartment but didn't know what kind of liability that would put on other than just making the rack came up for her in case she couldn't okay so first of all your good sign to do this thanks second you know the first risk is that if she can't pay or doesn't pay you're on the hook for the rap for the remainder of the lease right but the other wrist to you is that if you were to be in a position to try to make a big purchase like buying a home if you need to qualify for a mortgage or any large financial obligation that would require for review of your monthly obligations okay as a cosigner this apartment most underwriters are going to consider this as not of contention expense for you but as a valid real expense for you are okay it could affect your ability through underwriting to qualify in most centrally for a mortgage you and your wife intending to buy a home in the time period where your mom would be in this apartment now so without it that's not the case then the liability is exactly as you thought in that sense for is it would extend that I can think of okay my yeah my wife was concerned that if something were to happen to the apartment building damages in some form then we might be held liable all of it is true okay yeah so you are as if you are the tenant okay so your wife is right the whatever liability exists for your mom the identical liability exists for you and you know she's nervous about that don't include her is a party to co signing just you do it alone okay that'll make different coming back on in your marriage I didn't say in terms of liability I just be and your marriage okay yeah because the risk still is present regardless of whether a one of you science it with your mom or both of you do okay all right so what does that mean you're gonna do well I don't I don't know I'm not sure the management company had to make sure our had to clear her first alright let me give you an alternative suggestion sure in the alternative suggestion is to say what if we put up three times the normal security deposit okay and that may get the landlord to waive the cosine because they have such a very large security deposit they are and that would relieve the anxiety that your wife feels so try that jasmine is with us on the Clark Howard show hi jasmine how Clark how are you great thank you jasmine how can I serve you won't you say if I took over to speak with you I have listened to you for years thank you can make any sound thank you so much for what you do well I'm glad for that thank you so I'm thirty two and I'll be getting a promotion in a couple weeks with a range of about eleven thousand five hundred dollars a year no way no way congratulations to you that's fantastic thank you thank you very much I want to say the very best this extra income you can get the best phone from a box so what did you say is the best allocation online savings account for one K. nine were off the highway so I would say that unless you have a need for the money in a short window over the next few years or you have no rainy day money put aside I would say I'd like you to look first at the Roth IRA in second and increasing contributions to your four oh one K. so the real test in this is how I want you to make this decision is if you are really good at having put rainy day money aside then you don't have to worry about that and it just is a matter of Roth for one K. my preference would be the highest priority the to get that Roth is close to or to the Max each year and then beyond that increased your contributions to the four oh one K. on the other hand if you're rainy days a little weak I want you to increase your contributions to the online savings account to you built up a decent rainy day fund and then go do the Roth IRA and the four oh one K. and I'd like to congratulate you once again on the huge promotion with that fantastic fantastic raise norm is with us on Clark our show hi norm hi mark how you doing I'm doing fantastic thank you for all you do my question today is about glasses when we go to an eye doctor and have an exam and then decide to order a pair of eyeglasses were actually paying for two things the frame and the lenses the land is just the lender alone can range in price anywhere from twenty nine dollars to fourteen hundred dollars say what now anywhere from like twenty nine dollars to fourteen hundred dollars I don't know where you're shopping because that's I I can't imagine spending twenty nine dollars on a frame I didn't know they could run up that high well I think they do but here's the question is there a real difference in the way those lenders are manufactured okay so I'm not an optician I'm not an optometrist I can only tell you the dollars and cents and I have bought many glasses from the deep discounters and I have never had a problem with using any of those classes so the biggest player of them all in the deep discount market is any optical yeah and if you booked at zenni you can buy complete glasses often for under ten dollars frames lenses complete I mean I have people over and over again come up to me and wave their glasses I mean what more they were only twelve dollars or whatever and it's an industry that's going through a radical transformation because of the internet that created this new competition so what I recommend if you're trying to decide if you should get your feet wet norm is by a pair of glasses in the way that traditionally is made you comfortable okay and spend the money that you're used to spending and then turn around and buy a spare pair with the frames you like don't buy a spare pair with frames that you only want to wear in the vent that you couldn't find or procure originals right by one that you really would be comfortable wearing and by that spare pair for like no money and compare them okay and when I've had people do that overwhelmingly they're done they never buy another expensive pair of frames and lenses again got it all right bye so is any is the largest there's one that is very popular at a higher price point called Warby Parker okay you ever heard of them no Warby Parker is geared very heavily towards people in their twenties and they are really about being chic but affordable chic is kind of like a business model like how people think about shopping at target versus shopping at a fancy department store okay and then there are a bunch of other really an expensive deep discounters that again you're looking at frames lenses complete including shipping it under fifteen dollars if you just were to do a Google search or whatever and say cheap eyeglasses you'll see a bunch of different companies okay if you want to go with the biggest choice they got good reviews from Consumer Reports that would be zenni optical Z. E. N. N. I. optical and try it out you're listening to the Clark Howard show.
