"A company that will do a 1 billion 3 in EBITDA. It's not massively cheap. Stock chart looks very similar to the same ones we've just looked at. So a lot of charts look like this. All right, coming up. Should you put a pin and pins? Shares a Pinterest bouncing around over the last month. And that is options traders logging in where they see the stock heading next. Fast money's back into. Welcome back to fast money. Call it social anxiety. Shares a Pinterest down more than 75% over the last year, but one option traders making a huge bet that the bottom is finally antoni zang joins us with the action, Tony. Yeah, Melissa, we saw a lot of bullish flow from social media companies what Pinterest really stood out treating nearly three times the average daily volume and one trader took up almost 59% of today's volume selling 80,000 contracts at the August $20 puts collecting about $2 and 55 cents. That's nearly $2 million in premium, but it obligates this trader to cough up another $140 million to buy the 8 million shares of Pinterest if it's below 20 bucks by the August expiration, so clearly someone making a bet that we are near a bottom in some of these bombed out social media names. Tony, thanks, Tony Zhang for more options action. Tune in to the full show Friday, 5 30 p.m. Eastern Time. Up next, final trades. Time for the final trade, Tim. Qualcomm, 14 times, certainly value country in the semiconductor space. Samsung galaxy share gains. I like it. Courtney, we talked about this pullback that's happening in China. I think that's a great buying opportunity. I look at the iShares as opposed to the K web. I think it's a little bit better diversified. Yeah, next week, we're going to get those bank earnings. I don't like them. I think there's going to be a couple of tape pops there. That's a surprise, but the XLF, the at the money puts next week expiration or one and a half percent of the Ethiopia. It's like a mini O 8. That was good for you. Tune in product by 30. Friday preview. Potentially. Well, thank you all for watching fast money. It was a fine educational program. "The big deal, right? Yeah, but apparently it is a big deal. And it has in making an impact and Facebook did this. They knew it and they kept going on with their platform and they tried to hide it, but now that it's come out. Heavy sorry. So can you talk about the scope of the issue here? Yes, so as you said I mean like something to note is that even though we're all talking about it and it's in the news, a lot of this information is really not new. It's stuff that we've known from prior research or just from being a casual user of the platform. If you're a casual user or a Facebook even, you probably might have suspected, like, oh, Facebook might be making money off of causing harm. So this is really not surprising, but exactly as you put it, I think why this is news right now is that we're getting an insight into how much Facebook already knew about the harm that their platform causes in our society and how much they're trying to downplay it. And so another reason why we know that this is not a new issue is that there have been Facebook whistleblowers in the past. Sophie zang, she's a former Facebook data scientist who uncovered abusive political manipulation using bacon engagement. She found a series of multiple blatant attempts by foreign national governments to abuse the platform on Vasquez to mislead their own citizenry, which calls international news on multiple occasions. That sucks from her report the summary of that is basically that accounts belonging to government leaders were using fake accounts to engage with their content to make it look like it's more popular than it is. So if I'm a government leader and I put out, like, we have plans to do this. And then I have a bunch of fake accounts who were like, yes, we love this plan. We love this plan. We love this plan. It's like building fake agreement for your policies. And so essentially that's what soapy's saying uncovered. And Facebook has been allowing and profiting off of these harmful practices forever. So this is really not new. And I always like to remind people that Facebook started because Zuckerberg when he was in college, created a website called facemash, which basically was like a way to rank the attractiveness of his female co students, right? And so massaging and attacks on women and harm against women. This is not a mistake. It is baked into these platforms like Facebook from the very beginning. Zuckerberg will tell you, like, oh, that's not true. That's not true. I happened to be able to website called face mash that was shut down..

Sammy zang got the ball rolling with dominic saying look you got all the potential in the world to be a really good superstar but soon a you realize that your dad is kind of holding you back the better. "Tough to ask for a kicker to you know. Hit two right. That's the ravens. Have the best kicker in the history of time kicking for tucker talker can do absolutely by the way. Then this rule change. The ball goes out to the twenty-five instead of the twenty happened in two thousand sixteen. So i guess relative. It's a relatively new change. But the bottom line is if if your kicker screws up he aimed for the two and he kicks it to the seven. That's fine if he captains to kick a one or two yards in the end zone. Okay it happens and the teams have stupid. They're going to run it out anyways you know. They're not going to take a knee because their coach their special teams coach is going to be smart enough to tell them. Hey taken even. If it's on the one yard line just let it bounce and to your point. The touchback was expected to be about an average returns. The average expected return was to about the twenty yard line. They changed for safety reasons. But to your point what was the The number two decision that you disagreed with number two decision is just gruden. drives down. because i start the twenty-five and boom they get it to the thirty eight yard line. they're out of timeouts. They're seven seconds left at this point time. I'm going to make a strong argument that the good coach runs an out pattern. Tries to pick up five to seven yards his quarter. If it's not their quarterback zang's it out of bounds and then we try the fifty five yarder. The exceptional coach puts out the hail. Mary formation to the right three wide receivers and he pretends to run a hail mary the defense. Oh my god what are they doing. Did tried to get some guys back. They get all confused and still run the seven yard out pattern on both sides and there's a guy wide open it i mean i've seen this a zillion times because the defense doesn't they get fooled by the alignment. Oh the other teams. Going to try a hail mary and again. If it's not just throw it out of bounce. The bad coach attempts the field goal with seven seconds left which is a less than fifty fifty proposition. That extra five seven yards. You can pick up on. That play makes all the difference in the world. I could not believe that gruden was unaware that i disagreed with you on this one. I think that there's a lot of things that can go wrong in that situation. I mean because you're at the point there if you take a sack somehow you're out of field goal range now like fifty five fifty fifty prop suddenly becomes like a thirty seventy prop. If at best. Good quarterbacks never gonna get sacked because you can tell him you have to release us within one point eight seconds. You know literally against back to practice. He's never ever going to get in fact. What game was it in the. Nfl team was was just running down the clock and they couldn't run out the clock and they're out of timeouts and they just zinged it. They ran three straight out patterns. Zinged it out of balance at the end game and then kicked the field goal with three seconds left. I don't remember who it was but the other thing is when you know there's only one viable route to be run. It's easiest for the cornerbacks to jump. Those routes a cornerback. Get throwing a hail. Mary that nobody's going to stay are happens all the time at the end of a half when i see this all the time that it's fourth in eight and a team has to punt and they pretend to go forward and the defense gets completely fooled and doesn't use timeouts and they're scrambling around tick tick tick. The defense will get you put out those three wide receivers and a hail mary formation. It will fool them immediately because these are human beings they're told don't give up the short past they're being told don't get beat deep because then you lose and people remember the tom brady touchdown pass at the end of the first half in the nfc champ of the end of the football game like think about this. Don't get beat the and you know what time to throw a bomb to a guy also a seven seconds. He's wide open if they throw that hail mary and get tackled it at the five yard line. Are we not talking about. That is one of the terrible decisions. Jon gruden just made of course but he's not throwing he's not throwing they're not that smart kicked off into the end zone suddenly suddenly. They're they're they're they're they have the acumen to realize that. This isn't going to be a hail. Mary i i don't buy the bottom is if it's not there dissing. Here's what i what. I said yesterday to mackenzie. We weren't on air when we were talking about this. Where we mckinsey Record everything that anyone says in this office so what i. What i said was if it were a tie game at the time i would like your endgame strategy better. I'd i'd like to up my chances a little bit. Because now i know the floor is overtime When you're chasing three points and the floor is losing the game. I think i don't want to take any further chances. What's the probability. We make the fifty five yard kick. Would you say. I mean it depends on the kicker certainly. I don't know that kicker is like obviously tucker it's it's higher than forty forty i think is probably it's probably forty forty five percent. I go forty with the pressure and everything all right. It's inside that may have we pick up seven yards what's the probably flips to the right side of fifty percent the f. so we'll fifty three so i pick up thirteen percent. Am i gonna get sacked. Thirteen percent hal. Am i going to get a holding. Call thirteen percent ca. I would say the composite average of those events is probably five percents. I'm picking up a thirteen percents. And i have to complete the past though short but i think complete the pass pro more than half the time. I really think that the the there's this human nature of all don't get beat deep on the on that because you lose and it does happen. Seven seconds is enough. Time to throw a bomb too wide open guy and play only last six seconds. And here's the other thing that you know you mentioned holding on the offensive line which could certainly happen with especially with the young inexperienced line. Does those out. Routes like those Those sideline patterns the.

Money fast when he's back into miss a moment of vast catch us anytime on the go. Follow the fast money. Podcast welcome activists when he shares of. Amc falling into the red. After the close after yesterday's eye-popping twenty percent gain one option traders betting a million dollars that today's move means. This big breakout is about to go bust. Tony zang is here to break down the action. Tony what'd you see yes so. Amc on the back of yesterday's twenty percent move. We saw one very large bet against that. An amc traded fairly actively here today about one point four million contracts traded which is just shy of two times the average daily volume and the trade that we stood out here was a thousand contracts of the october forty. Five dollars puts were purchased for twelve dollars and twenty four cents. Now what's interesting about this particular. Trait is the fact. This is an at the money put and to put into context. Twelve thousand twenty four cents on a forty five dollars. Stock is twenty seven percent of the stocks value. That's a lot of pain extra value. That's all going to decay away if amc does not accelerate to the downside so this is betting a million dollars that amc is going to give back all of yesterday's gains and more by the next month and a half or so before the october expiration. The size of this trae. Tony does this indicate to you. At least i know it's impossible to know that this is not a retail trader. I certainly think a million dollars premium certainly would say that. This is not a retail trader. Yes because that would be all that risk. If this doesn't work out all right tony. Thank you tony zang. I asked that obviously because Retail traders have been very active in the options market but they tend to be smaller in smaller size and the lower volumes Dan how do you interpret. This action keeps curious. I'm just looking at it. Looks like it's a roll. It looks like they rolled out of the september forty. Fives in the october's. I still look at the call volume versus the volume top ten most active options all calls. They're still and there. Were two and a half times that of put today so that was clearly an institution rolling out of giving themselves a little more time here but it looks like retail is still all over the calls mel. Yeah and and judging by twitter activity they still definitely are standing by this. Which maybe surprising jeff mills. I mean a lot of people through a lot of water all over this movement saying you know what these retail guys they don't know what they're doing etcetera etcetera dumb money. Whatever you wanna call them. "If you were involved in the construction of this roster knowing you spend a lot of money and all this stuff like would you right now be walking away thinking like fuck you know or or is it kinda like obviously we wanna go but like where would you land emotionally and like strategically what happened. Especially they brought back only one of the five players from last year so reconstruction era i guess but yeah go ahead. Yup and if that happened basically. If i wasn't tm shoes. If i was in part issues i would say fuck you know we can failed but you know. Honestly to the caller's point are talking about The improvement of tm's play in general and being aggressive. I you know i. I kinda agree where this split this year. Actually we had five. You know pretty strong teams. I guess in and making your opponent stronger and making the whole region stronger is actually better for you. Know strong team soup C-9 eeg tsa hundred thieves. Te'o he'll we had like five teams that were potentially was going to make morals. And then i think to the college point i. Tsn getting you know. There's place style improved throughout the split throughout the year. I think it's if you wanna find success there. I think there is and you know to the point like when you go to. You definitely want to be aggressive in the in the past when the when we won like you know the back tobacco backpack titles and when we the lot of tsn was winning. Out of the coaches are even the players. Just say ulysses pick scaling and let's just pick team fighting tanks because he works in any like if you wanna elsia seidel. Just do that by know time after time when we went to world we got punished. The aggressiveness from chinese seems. I think it was when the year that right after the year after I want the metadata chefs. You need to be aggressive to actually win games and that was when anyone getting punished super hard other teams that work progress enough was getting punished. Hard so i think you know it's that kind of play style that we want to adapt as the teams and. I think we are actually tried to do that. That's one of our goals. And you know. I think to the college point. Yes some points but from gm perspective like marquette outset like once we lost the game five hours our fuck you know. I mean it's hard to imagine a world where. Gm would feel happy with a question for you know. Do you think that the the kaas the salaries make it much worse or as a gm do you just sorta say like i got the money. Is somebody else's problem. I'm just building the team that they allowed me to build. Steve's problem out this i mean money definitely matters you know. There's lot of investment going on and with investment. There's expectations right the end. There's always a lot of expectation cohen. With like there's pressure there's you need to perform in a lot of these sponsors partners investing because they think you're going to succeed and if you fail it's there's a consequences so it's definitely matters. Yeah i'm super curious where. Tsn goes from here in the offseason because to your point there's a lot of pressure on the spend and it's like well if you spent this money indian make worlds. I don't know it's it's i think it's just really tough. That's only ask the caller and odd vibe. Like how do you feel about this roster. 'cause you're saying it's not a failure but you're also kind of emitting still is in some sense like do you want to see an overhaul like if you think i a lot of fans don't like loss know like are you guys. Are you personally hoping loss has gone even if you don't be this as a failure. Are you hoping that something changes with top permit or whatever definitely i hope he stays I mean so personally. I off the top of my head. I think the only contract. That's actually expiring is power evils And if that's the case i'd love to see them put their a new academy mid leaner up takeover in. I believe because honestly as a tm fan. I'd loved who needs play. I doubted him so hard when he got signed and he nothing but improve me and i love power of evil. I think he's great. I think if they wanna keep them. I'd be more than happy. But it's i think it's time to start putting some anytown in there. We've had some pretty sweet success speaker. I think lost and sort because we have in front of the year. I believe the two years. I think that'll be a great combination. If he's only gone better in my opinion. So i think if we keep them together. Synergy only builds. I guess strength my opinion. So i think that's the best way forward is hopefully they keep everybody together or maybe move the academy mid later up even though he might be a little green so the only the only contracts that are expiring this year from. Tsm are curry's peter zang's and bureauc- sins so all all the other players including their academy Players are all through twenty two or twenty twenty three in fact on the side the the only one on the side that is twenty. Twenty three has lost. The others are twenty twenty two so i don't i don't as early as you head. Coaching staff coaches not blaming. The coaches. all i'm saying is like if you if you are worried about any contracts not renewing or anything like that or teams. The losing the players. The players are fine is the coaches that are are up for renewal but go ahead. No go for it. I was gonna ask dodo in in same question. You've ask the caller in your if you were jamming your shoes you know. Is this a keep the ross. The other for the most part or would you actually be looking to make moves your goal supposed to be world's looking at team liquid and c-9 and hundred thieves all the talent on there. You feel like you need an upgrade.

"To play the game and stay ahead of the game because when i went there every time i would sign a new contract k. Nbc somehow mysteriously. Kelly had a copy of my contract before. I did so see what everybody was making while the terms were. You're there as long as kelly was. She was as we say she's yes she's she's mobbed up and friends look john. You don't play a lot of the schmooze not good. You don't play the politics been good at that. Sometimes you you talk really pretty nasty to management and kind of not really no no room right now. He did well. Sometimes i'm saying you draw the line and you're less flexible oftentimes on certain things. Well i mean the only course thing ever said about my boss was that he was a big fucking pussy. He took that personally. But that's not how it happened. Took out the humor in your comments to the guy zang uber's now but you were having a conversation and he was. You guys were disagreeing on some news story about what to lead. The newscast walked away and user. Wanna return hang on a second and then he walked away and came back and said. Did you know what happened. But that's close jets general area of diligent. It was it was an argument about content. Where the the biggest terror bombing. Since nine eleven happened that day it was overseas but it was still historic. That was our lead well. We had the baseball playoffs on and producer. Who i never executive producer. I never got along with. Because she had the worst News judgement she had changed at the last minute to league with the baseball game. Well the news director. Who's a good guy was in new york and then he was asleep. So call the general manager home. Which i'd never done disa- say look. I hate to do this. But some fifty minutes of the show. She was a lead with The baseball game. "Know you're very excited about this. Now i i am is ii bittersweet though i wanted to see johnny b. appro of you know. Apparently maybe he didn't get the feedback that he liked to have gotten Dern tests in the water. But i think is this was an amazing i can imagine a top about a blistering year through kovic for johnny douzaine. He transfers from kentucky. Where things don't work out he gets the. Ucla sits out a part of the season and then leads a plan team into the final four and then just puts his name in the draft. So there's literally been nonstop for johnny douzaine. So i don't i you know what he probably just said you know. Let me come back one year. And see what i can do with what the year under my belt how i can improve and and what can happen but mike you talk about a story dude. First of all everybody coming back next year. I mean they're going to be everybody's picked to get to the final four so it'd be oh. Ucla gonzaga again either. We everybody's pick they have everybody coming back to mcdonald's all american coming in they start that four guard offense that makes it really difficult to defend especially when you get to the tournament and teams. Haven't seen that dude. I i would. I would be doing what you're doing. I'd be standing on the street corner. Yellen final four two man. I'm yelling championship. this is i mean seriously. This team just needed a bidded depth. Maybe one rest you know came a a charge call away or a literally a heave from half court away from having a chance to advance so you know. I covered the bruins at college basketball all season long. So i mean this is. This is exciting but you know how rare is is. Jason is see where guys actually come back to school right. Well let me let me throw this agile because because this is a curveball for you here now because here you have the first guy who says i'm coming back with all the name image likeness going on the past few days now. The college kids can make money off their name image and likeness and look derek quarterback from miami. I think has already made like three hundred thousand dollars. He's on like everything How much of. This is giuseppe going. Okay well. I'm kinda iffy in the pros if i come back. Hey i'm in los angeles i. I could really do some things. I could make some money here. we're getting upwards of maybe six figures of doing things being able to do name image and likeness and. Hey alright. I'll come back for one more year because i'll make a decent amount of money you know my if i'm not drafted high enough my rookie contracts not going to be guaranteed so i'm gonna come back here and i'm gonna make some cash over the course of the next year and maybe jews zang's the first of a few guys who decide to do that because you know all right. I'm kind of iffy. There's no big deal for me. Waiting to go to the pros if i wait one more year right like i'll either improve my draft stock or my draft. Stock won't go anywhere. If i'm going to be a borderline first round pick next year. I may as well come back. Make some money have another great year of college basketball. Then i can go to the pros you can be anymore right with this like Now you know seriously. You couldn't be because jews zane could make more money being the man at ucla after the year that they had and all the alumni and boosters and you know ban wagoner's also will shout them out to are going to be coming out the woodwork. And you know being the man in l. a. It's like okay. Well you got you got kawai over there. Then you've got lebron and in hair on the college face you know and At evan mobile the mobile brothers are both out of school. Now so as far as you know l. a. basketball johnny douzaine is is number three on that list. So i'm asking. I'm absolutely with him coming back and i and i see it in a different light now. I didn't even think that. I just was thinking basketball. But yeah he couldn't make more. I'm not sure whether rookie let's say is drafted in the second round. I mean maybe maybe it's a half a mill in the league. I'd have to do the research there. He could pull that in college. Envy the man the man okay now. How how jealous are you about. Or i shouldn't say gel. I should say how do you feel. That's what we call a leading question. How do you about now that here's athletes. Who can make this name. Image and likeness stuff compared to when when you were in. You couldn't do that. I mean look. You walked away with a lot of sweet gear. Don't get me wrong. You wear different. Ucla gear every single day and all the teams you played for in the nba. It's like today's going to be. Oh what do i wear. Today's my clippers day. Today's this day. How do you feel now are you. Are you all the way happy for the players. Is there a little bit of jealousy or is it all and hey they can make what they wanna make. Oh no no. Don't get me wrong. I would love to take my back pay. I wasn't the cover a one of those. Ncwa games but i was on the back distinctly on the back cover of one of those video games. Okay i would love backpay Jealous no not. i'm excited. I am thrilled. But yeah man when you really realize the money that was swirling around you or that you know. My coach was making a couple okay. Mic coach was making a couple million dollars. Okay to coach. But you know we. We had to play for the love of the game. He didn't coach for the love of the game. But we did it for the love of the game at university. They didn't they didn't do it for the love of athletics for student. Athletes the love of basketball. Nah they did it for the money. Okay and we made our run. Ucla found a way to capitalize off of it so I'm excited for these young man. I think more is to come because we're starting name image and likeness but there is money in college sports. There's money that's swirling around so these kids should be seeing. You know some level of base paycheck. You know 'cause let's say let's say. Let's be honest jason. Let's say. I'm a baseball player. Third-string baseball player. I'm still sacrifice my body. So i think there should be a level. Pay their a base level of pay Much like you know in the nba. We get like a licensing check right And amongst that licensing check and you can have your own separate deals. There's a base like you know. Twenty five thousand dollars or something that you just got for being on. Everyone got that and to me. That's a that's a that's a big thing for. Maybe it's you know the licensing should be split up or some type of revenue sharing through all athletes because there is so much money coming in. But if i'm gonna guy that. I'm still sacrificing my bobby my body or girl an athlete. You should be compensated ryan. Look i'm glad you're here What did you want to talk about today coach. You make two million dollars a year man and and we're not making anything on. I'm glad you came in here. I have tracksuit for you. That is brand new adidas. You're gonna love it. It's kind of got the pleats down the center of the pants which is kind of. Why don't you take this right here and you know hey could meeting all right. I'll see you practice in about an hour right here. take this. let me let me know if it doesn't fit you. I got other sizes. Can you send anybody else. Who's upset about not getting money you know in you know jay in all seriousness. Though what happens is a star player gets paid all guys that are automated university. They're getting paid under the table from the boosters from the coaches from whoever so with them getting paid and then making money not making money making under the table money. Now you become a servant to your coacher servants. Those boosters in the illegal activity almost has to come in because these kids aren't making money or some of them unfortunately jason. Let's be honest at a very young stage in in their lives. They are the main provider in their households. They've been paid to play you basketball even since high school. You know so. These kids have to keep up and it's ugly side of sports in which we can do away with hopefully and say. Hey you wanna get paid to come to kentucky come. Ucla come to you know even pepper nine. We'll we'll get you a deal with the local gas station man. We'll we'll get you on the cover you'd be the face of it and we'll we'll we'll be set you up with the marketing and that's how we'll get you to the university rather than something under the table happening just is going to clean the game because jason. I'm gonna tell you one thing or not whether it's legal or illegal..

We had the phrase double taxed and you never heard about it. And i said no. It's what you say when you get both vaccination shots for for for covert you said. No no no no. You're not vaccinated till you get one. You put a poll in the field for this about you. Know what double faxed means and right now. I can't believe it's this close. I can't believe it's fifty two percent for yes to forty seven percent for no beans just jumped and your vote. You voted in there. Which is skewing. The polls. I was gonna say might be inappropriate. You are skewing the polls you are. That's like in your an improper benefit. You double vacs the poll. No all i said was i voted. I didn't say you put. Do you know what double vaccines and you had yet. Which is what i voted for. Or no what. Is that what you thought it was. All i said was i voted. That's all i said was forty six of us. So far that voted. I myself didn't vote. I don't even know if you can vote on your own. Poll might get a few bone burner accounts. You and katie. You're going to get this figured out. Okay via kate. diva but I if you guys listen to going to two hundred feet in vote and please clear this thing up. 'cause double vacs just scared the absolute life out of me when he said it. Jason double vacs thing like that's what you said. The double of action both shots. It's what you say. Got both shots. Double vexed fully vaccinated. No no because listen. I was scared. Listen i'm here's my deal. I got colbert so bad. I saw death. I wasn't going to die. But i saw death and i understand how people die and i'm not laughing and joking even though we can kind of laugh about this but we're not completely out the blue so you said as nurses i was going to get vaccinated. You said double vacs. And i freaked out for a sec. I freaked complete jason. The look on my face was not cute. All right i didn't. I didn't mean to freak you out. I just thought it was something everybody knew that phrase right double vaccines what it is. We're vaccinate. ucla. I'll tell you that much. Double vacs are competition this year. Look at you find every way to bring it back to that everywhere you look. You actually liked my comment. When i said i voted so you can't complain that i voted in and like my compensate item. I liked your tweet i did. I like your interaction. You're like a really cool twitter personality. So when you if i do a tweet in you respond to it i know i kinda hit home. You don't respond you respond to a lot of things jayson but you see all your you see all but you don't respond all and you don't like all i'm a busy guy man you know i got things going on you know i got. I got people calling me. I got four phones going on here. I am like the katie. I got burner phones. I got burnt. I got lots of stuff. I got to stay up on top. You double maxed and so again ryan just put the poll in there and Yeah fifty three which jumped a little bit but a little bit my favorite now for me so people actually believe. Believe me over. But that's okay. We still have a lot of time left on this phone. But listen i m excited at ucla. I'm excited for you. Because this is why like ucla. And they're gonna be everybody's trendy final four pick and they should be because the first part of this is that this is a team that does things and this incarnation of this team to give teams trouble in the tournament. I always say this was syracuse zone. Right because you know me syracuse guy during acc play. They struggle a bit. Because hey teams. Get to see the two three zone. During the season a couple of times so syracuse is one thousand nine hundred twelve. They are on the bubble but they run to the sweet sixteen in the final four. Because when you play in the tournament and teams haven't seen the two three zone and sometimes you have a to prepare for it. It's difficult same thing for the bruins. You know they play a four guard offense right if two guys stink in two guys good. They're going to win that game right and they don't like to run up and down the floor. They played a deliberate pace. They want to win every game. Fifty to forty nine. And that's a difficult thing to prep for so during the pac twelve season. Yeah all right. They're going to struggle a little bit because teams get to see them a couple of times but in the tournament again when you have one day to prepare. That's a lot of problems. But our bruins. And i've talked to coach cronin a lot. He'd loved her run. Don't get me wrong. He likes to grind. He loved to run but we. We couldn't get in foul trouble. We couldn't have one of those. It was like a seven man rotation like literally like those guys. I ha- i'm so proud and impressed by the run. The final four run. The bruins had last year in that. You just don't see it. You know there are seven guys on the floor. He he had to get every outside of every bit of his guys last year Juzeng and hack has in any did but yes the bruins playing credibly sold but i just believe with more depth. They're going to be able to run next year. They're going to be able to run and they're going to be able to get up and down a little bit and they wanted to be as worried about foul trouble and against gonzaga. You know we just held on. Like i said a shot away but you know we have one more. Gosh you're going to christmas. Was there man. Oh gosh we at christmas listened. The we had just had christmas in the that we'd be you know we'd be moving on man. Did you see my face. I just rob. I'm sorry man right now but it's happy is bittersweet because it's like well we could really win at all your bitter sweet tears. You're crying right now on your chenille. And stuff like that like to rope. The roping part of it i I started writing across the arena. Sooner like as a healer jackpots. I'm going jackpots. Rodeos i've feel like a decent spot but jackpots. I'm writing across sooner. I'm what i'm picturing two feet in my head like a i'm weird like sometimes i'll be right in the box a lego pop in my mind like alvian vacationing around in our up leg race race race and have to rethink and just think of a run as slow as possible like when. I'm trying to get focused. I think of a hill shot like the of the corner steers open. Everything's slow hop in and just think of loop as big as you can imagine he'll on steer. And that is but that slows me down. Slows my mindset down slows. My thinking now and another thing that's helped is matt zang. Canaletto may count. When i back in the box like when i back every time i walk one breeze to breeze and i an i could everything would slow down so like i could see the gate open. I could see the steer leave and everything would come together. I think that was the biggest thing was the gates select bang gates open steers gone. I'm jay strategy behind. Yeah i mean there's so much to that right there because to me would a lot of it feels like is will our mind we have a process oriented or mine outcome oriented young and we want the results to be good but a lot of those times where we when we about results legs are missing messy not like failure like is kind of our our fear whatever whatever you wanna call it and so those will pop in and so you got to. You got to replace it or almost think i go to process. This is just what i've studied or even but you gotta process or knowing how to to do your job in focus on that or re than be in the moment right. "Oh my gosh. that's me. Revenue engine was fine. I actually move just sitting there in the boxing. Love to find out how ford was going to sell. Its beloved ford. F one fifty as a silent version. Sam's rev dairy new spoke with a four an engineer. The chief engineer for the f. One fifty linda zang and ford has tinkered experimentally with battery powered cars and actually over one hundred years ago but in two thousand and eighteen when linda zang join the f one fifty crew and helped build an electric prototype for the best selling model. She new ford was getting serious. What does it actually look like. I'm just imagining. You might have got a recent model ford f one fifty and just got the combustion engine and put some batteries somewhere in it or or am i completely off base with that. No that's pretty accurate like the way you explained. It is actually about right. Okay we'll be all apply for a job in the engineering department of then. Linda was trying to figure out how many batteries to put in the truck how to stop things like overheating. Lot of concrete engineering challenges. But of course there was another problem. I want to play so they for you. Yeah yeah so. That was the cranking an engine right if i heard that properly. That's a ford f. One fifty combustion engine. So what does the ford f one fifty electric's like it doesn't sound like anything. It doesn't sound like anything. And that's great because silence is golden. Were going out to the world at large would if they could get a certain of the people out there in the world vote for certain politician or get behind the idea that the country needs to go to war and they wanna fight in the army. That sort of thing so i sort of took it out to what i felt was the furthest extreme interesting up. You know being that you were in the entertainment industry. Is this also commenting on You know being charming and kind of how that can be used and it sounds like in some cases in this in this book. Maybe the wrong way. Oh yeah absolutely. I have i have a but also it can be used for extreme good. It's well the guy who created the substance was kind of a genius. Young man who studied at mit and his original idea was to use it for great good who get for example warring nations to sit down the guy who created the juice was a young genius named tom zang and when tom created a his intentions were to use it for great. Good with the idea that if he took the substance himself and he was able to approach the leaders of certain warring nations that he could get them to sit down and smoke the peace pipe as it were and to create more peace in the world but the substance was stolen from him and it became used by this executive within this large media company to create cats mites to were to for his own personal advantages of what he wanted to create and so he created to cares mites one who was originally a salesperson who worked within a big media company who became an on air personality and just you know charmed people to no end and and persuaded them Sort of subliminal almost to do certain things and then he also found a young girl who becomes kind of a cinderella like character within the novel in that she at the start. She's kinda homeboy. she's dirt poor. She lives in a very poor community. In upstate new york. He transforms her which she accepts substance. She not only as part of becoming extremely charismatic she also becomes very loring it changes the contours of her body. And does things like changed. People are to maiava. Confession is that. I often schedule these topics as things. I really want to understand better. And i really want to understand the mechanics of why teams smart but don't feel that way Really curious to go a few clicks deeper than we already have got into it. So i'm excited about position. Basically got a heads around this question. Why is it that diverse teams a smarter in what way and we publish this first piece. It's become kind of a big piece in not just our work but widely shared across the end. What we wanted to do today was kinda. Go a few clicks into this question. Revisit this question because it's really topical and really understand this so anyway let's dig in bowery. Let's hit from you. I will. I mean what are the ways that diverse teams are smarter. Maybe you kickoff. Employees can add some in what ways the diverse teams actually smarter. So first of all thank you. There's been so much work that has happened in the past ten years. I love being part of the community. Because you're the best in the world taking mr geeky signs that are laboratories then actually making it usable also. Thank you for continuing. Does about your lead. Because i'm just assuming everyone knows you. And i'm going to tell bias already. Well i am a a psychologist by training and another way to think about. It also comes under the rubric of a behavioral scientists and my laboratory which is literally in the basement without windows takes people from all over the united states. all of the world that are unsuspecting. Just wanna be part of research and we try to understand to. My specialty is diversity equity inclusion anti racism so i have conducted studies on the impact of diversity on performance. What does performance mean. What does diversity actually wilk lake. We've done research on some of the white logical underpinnings of bias. Johnson mark on collective intelligence both in the world of education and also organizations but a lot of it really comes from starting off the company's zang. What are the problems that organizations trying to solve going to the laboratory look at tight causality and trying to understand the mechanisms and then trying to go back into the world and share so it's busy times incredible times this past year but also really important. Great that's really helpful. I've got an image of you in the basement with no light and judd breaking unsuspecting executives into telling you what they really think that's great. Keep up the good cook Going to end something that from my perspective is a little bit different. Having done diversity research way back when including the first study that showed a connection between gender diversity and financial performance. But my confession is. I've used so much of this work long. Before came to the organization. It headed diversity at few organizations like mckinsey and micron technology and it might trump particularly these articles that were talking about today. Were what really swayed a leadership team who had no experience with a diversity effort before that this was incredibly important thing to do of course teaser filled with engineers but they were really compelled by putting a lot of energy into the dna efforts in part because of what they learned from this research. So thank you didn't break the yeah. Remissed interviewed introducing both before me about such an experience by us of assuming you been around for awhile but yet pull. It comes to us as chief diversity officer many esteemed organizations before working with us and applying the work until late in the whistle. Grateful to have you with Yes let's question with all that background. In what ways diverse teams smart maybe battery. Do you wanna start on that. Yeah well i think there's a couple of ways the first way. Is that diverse team. People talk about this idea. That diverse teams breed innovative thinking. And the reason why that happens is because of cognitive elaboration. What that means is that people are thinking with a greater depth of thoughts. They are thinking about counterfactual. We should be thinking about this in a different way. They are slowing down. So they're sort of able to sort of absorb information from others. They're engaged in greater perspective taking where they have to sort of sink about a problem for multiple people's perspectives. So there's a lot of benefits. I think at this sort of cognitive level when you think about what makes innovation happen but the catalyst is diversity and then there's also these other benefits where people feel included in the sense that all of us have something about ourselves. That's a little bit different. Quirky potentially marginalized historically discriminated against. And then when you see a group of individuals around you that's a little bit different. It's an fosters. The sense of inclusion like my perspective on my identity has something to so there. Are those kind of emotional affective and then there's also the cognitive benefits into this is really kind of at the small what we call the micro level when you're looking at teams and

"That's 855. 9358255. Of course, the time you can call us live, and we can actually have a conversation. Saturday afternoons between three and five Eastern or noon to two Pacific. If you're in Seattle, you know it's noon to two Pacific 855935 80 to 55. So before you do something you might later regret or try to straighten out the mess You already have. Call 855935 talk like for example, If you're thinking I'm gonna go buy me some game. Stop it $370 a share, or I'm just like Tom. I'm gonna buy some AMC or I'm gonna become a stock market timer are just You need to think again. You really do. I mean, there's a lot it's not just because we don't think it makes sense. There's a lot of research that shows it doesn't make sense. Well, there was always a lot of research that showed that moving in and out of stocks lowered returns well, because you missed some of the big days in the market, right. That's just that's an easy and we could go through all the numbers. We're not going to. But There's now a new study out that finds that active trading also increases the volatilities of the portfolio. Which makes sense when you think about it right cause you're buying and selling stuff him in, and we are already seeing the numbers from last March, where people sold out of stocks and then Mr waiting to get back in. But some new research by a doctor Ilia, die, chief of Emory and Chin Zang of University of British Columbia, said found that 50% it's amazing. The volatility of actual investor experienced 50% higher than the corresponding volatility of stock returns. In other words, if you just bought and held And you did nothing. You didn't move the money around versus moving the money around. You're the how much bouncing around. So here's Here's the way I look at this time people feel better. Moving out of that because it went down. I'm putting it in cash or bonds, and then I'm gonna buy that. When it goes up. You feel better about all that, but it actually not only lowers the returns it increases. The ups and downs of your portfolio to bit counterintuitive. But it's just a naturally No, really market timing makes me is one of those stuff things. You know that the more you're moving money, The more volatile money's gonna be. Yeah, It just makes sense. I call these. It's like value. Stocks tend to outperform growth stocks or small company stocks have tended past tense to outperform large company stocks. These are called Duff actors, at least in my vocabulary because you know it's limited. Uh duh, duh. Horse undervalued assets have a better potential. Off course Littler companies have more room to grow. And of course, the more you move your money between things, The more volatility you're going to incur, and we believe volatility. Is one of they were just really two kinds of major risk volatility and permanent loss. And huge by the way, they also looked into Robin Hood. You know, some of the investors there which Robin Hood claims are guys air buy and hold people. I don't believe you for a moment, but the most popular stocks on Robin Hood here is they're so here's their study on that they tend to decline. After they've been the most popular between five and 9%. We say that again after they've been the big one's a big movers on Robin Hood. They tend to decline and this is not it again is not a surprise because they get to get pumped up. And I think you could clearly say that right now, with a couple of issues pretty pumped up here lately by the boards and buy everything else, And then the people lose interest in they go down. They sell out because I made a lot of money. I've read about the kid who got $100 worth of I think I was game stop and just sold it for 3500. I mean, that's the kind of thing you hear about, And that's the kind of thing that you really need to avoid in your portfolio period. And the other thing there. Tom is not. It's not just the volatility because when you're trading in and out of individual securities, you've got that risk of that's big swings in value. But you've also got that risk. That you could get into a company. Like AMC was nearly bankrupt. It was it was teetering. They were right on the brink. If they didn't get that emergency infusion of venture $170 million if they didn't get that they were on the brink of filing for bankruptcy, and they didn't have a lot of there really wasn't a lot too. Allow them to restructure. It could very well have been a full liquidation bankruptcy, but even in a restructure bankruptcy, this is what people forget. It's like they think you talk about Delta Airlines went bankrupt and they go well. I own Delta stock. Gun and and and the people who owned it Before the restructuring. They lost everything. They lose a GMC end. Ron see what comets it happens, individual firms. Do go bust, so your risk is huge. It's not just one thing. It's everything. It's magnified when.

America's 'Never-Ending Battle Against Flesh-Eating Worms'

"It was two thousand sixteen in the Florida keys, and a little species endangered deer called. The key deer weren't acting right. People just start noticing that these seem to be having these wounds on their heads that Sarah Zang a reporter with the Atlantic. She says the deer looked like they'd been injured by something. There were gashes on their heads. They're kind of like walking on the street like really shaking their head and they're trying to shake something off. Warning right here. It is about to get gross like like real Gross Kim Gable is a big, pine key resident and the deer in her area. You'll see gaping holes or wounds, their neck, or in their in their head, and you'll see them shaking their head. You would see dear like almost half its head would be missing, and you could see down to the skull. And eventually ears start dying in. You know it's become this big mystery of why dying, especially with these really really awful wounds on their heads. Local scientists looked into it and eventually tests confirmed the deer were infected with the parasite. Its scientific name is see Omnivore ax, which means man eater. It's more commonly known as Descru- were. The scorer is actually the magic of a fly, and this flight only lays its eggs in the wounds of live animals, and it's maggots squirm only life flesh so they're. They're flesh-eating squirms and. Sarah they sound. Your they're your best friend not. As they eat, the wound grows attracting more flies, which create more maggots which turn into more flies, you gotTA. Be can spread really fast, so local authorities in Florida took some drastic measures to okay. At least fifty of the one thousand key deer, the national key deer refuge have been euthanized on the roads out of town. Checkpoints were set where anyone traveling with a pet needed to stop, so those pets leaving the keys have to get their animal's checked out to make sure they are clear. Clear this deadly parasite, the goal which they achieved by the way was to protect as many deer as possible and keep the screw worm from leaving the keys see this outbreak was kind of a fluke screw worms used to devastate livestock in the US, but they were a radical more than fifty years ago and that's because to this day. The USDA maintains an international screw worm barrier. Along the border between Panama and Colombia, the thinnest strip of land, connecting north and South America and every league planes loaded with sterilize squirms fly over this patch of land and release millions of sterilize squirms. And this has been going on for decades. It's the biggest parasite control operation. You've never heard of at least. This is wild. Sarah I am embarrassed to say. I had no idea now I also no idea until twenty sixteen, I started writing about scurrilous.
