"In their division. Do you think they're better than buffalo. I do do you think. They're better than detroit. I do both of those teams are ahead of toronto right now. I mean boston will be a playoff team. So i think i think they'll be one of three to four teams that i think four teams will make it from from this group. Eighty nine the crossover start the crossover start getting you know a little tight. But i think they're gonna think don't make it ray. Ferraro is saying that there is a ten and a half percent chance maple leaves. Don't make the playoffs. There's always a chance strikes now all right one more quick one from instagram. Bud ask gavin malinche. Do you think anyone will ever pass. Thomas salona is seventy two goals in his rookie season. There was seventy six but Yeah no no i remember. I was in winnipeg beneath scored. That and the celebration was always tremendous right. You'd get probably vilified doing at now. Where the gloves in the air. And you're shooting outta with your hockey stick all that but it's everything that team. Oh did and does i just enjoy just a good human being. It was big k. Most personality is big. It's still right like ed so bb yes an ontario on the podcast yet. We need to get him he he. He's leads a busy retirement life between gulf in his cars. And you know what he's got going. I i assume when you play that much golf as as an athlete is he's a good golfer. I mean he's got to be single digit. I think he's gonna yeah all right. Well adam with the answers knowing less known one will know okay. Monroe seventy six goals. I know i know. I know jack andrey social channels for rapid fire presented by net coins dot. Ca crypto. Made easy last week. We had zakheim taken on rapid fire. Did a great job by the way so we have more rapid fires coming soon. I always end the podcast by wondering what your week is about. But i know what you're week is about because you spending a lot of it working with me. We've not the leafs game tonight. Tuesday as we record the pot guys. We're going to hang out with our friends from canadian club. Whiskey on wednesday. That's part of an thursday. Let's friday and then back home saturday. I will get home in time for Recess soccer game which nice which is very important stuff. I love watching. The boys do their thing. I just love it. Do you ever sit on the sidelines. And i know you do but you know because of how much you travel like ida when when my daughter played soccer and certainly didn't play do anywhere near what riley in resupply doing. Continue to play We just have the lawn chair on the sideline maybe a ordinance coffee or if you were bold enough a cooler that kind of stuff i i like the game but i just couldn't couldn't stay focused. Couldn't pay attention like i would. I'd zone in when the ball was headed in the offensive. Deresh then gotta zone out what. We're talk house league soccer so in colorado. I are We we stay by ourselves. We're near the other parents but were we played a game..

"I would say the the second year. Because i'm thinking of thirteen fourteen but that year is probably one of my favorite years in four divisions problem on favors playing hockey experience. We obviously got the play on jobs. Who's a dream come true and then the at christmas time got two to play in the world genius which We got to play in canada which was just over the toddler Played montreal eramet like we played montreal on boxing day against boston narrate new year. It might have been years actually against team usa and you know sold them. This is the best atmosphere like. There's never better outer atmosphere like this ever plant. And then we play in the quarterfinals in toronto and it was just on a whole 'nother level guys oil Like maximum score a goal and. They're chanting don't hear yourself think they're chanting places roth And we had unbelievable so yeah that was so he had won the world junior year and the like and then re other really good teams hussein. sean keep our coach that we had brought in like a lot of Really really good players and at a at a fairly decent run out of losing to to connor in the western conference files in the job and then ended up going to see. And i think we played. We played utica that year in the playoffs. Only play like the last four games in the series but it was kind of like a cool way to cap off the euro the plan three different leagues and and play some pretty pretty important hockey throughout it. So yeah i was one of my one of my fears inauguration. I think it was just you know you when you play that many places you get to meet a whole lot of different personalities on different people experience lot they drive like you go from suzanne marie where Good team. we travel a lot on the bus. But like i know it's okay. Cnn okay so you're playing you custody. Got a little taste of the four. Am bus ride to the airport. And the two flights to new york in that the a six hour bus ride to work for our bus rights fans nuts to auditorium a great fan base there as well so yeah yeah see. I got like a little taste of everything. Everything season started. We started off in santa monica in playing and playing is yellow. Kingston fish off in is the who was your talk. Oh go ahead all right when you first first couple of games ebbets who is your partner. Oh goodness i can't let go. Ra put him on the oilers for a few years have been like a little kid on three rings him. They don't remember either. I only thing. I remember my first. My first game Was the first shift. I think i had hit a new hair to sean on net announced by one so that was night. Those might i just. That's describe are remember from that. I see games. How i want to talk a little bit more about the current defensemen. So you guys lose adam larsson. That's a very difficult loss. But jim play fair. Also messaged over. That ended up training with evan bouchard all summer. He's a very high end prospect in your organization considering like i don't know if you did or not have somebody take you under their wing. You're now taking him under your wing. I don't know if he's going to make the squad but that must have been pretty special for him. And i would that you were training with them with mattie nickel. I actually Spy she ended up. I switched trainers and a shout. I a north. But i start working with connor and up aguirre hours yet That would have been just over a year year and a half ago so but now being and bush were moose gaining together actually about our skiing so we we skated together every week and hopefully enjoyed it. I mean for for me. Obviously whenever you have the opportunity to work with your teammates over. The course i'm right. It's it's a huge huge ad because your rain the same type of intensity and work ethic that you want during the season you wanna be pushed to that extent in the summertime to. I think whenever you're doing that with with your teammates it's for for me. I'm like gabe bushes booze hot. I am prospects. He's a guy that's gonna be really good player in this league. Really big part of our team so i think it would be great for us. Great festival work together and push each other. So as much as as much as china push losers pushing me each and every day because You know he comes out there and he brings no. He rang the work that we need to get better. So there's a lot of fun and in the summer and agassi working with bush in the bars gain in working with data on the gym as well. We weren't full devon shore zakheim and so we have many many other group gone. Probably just a location reason than i guess with mattie because i know he ended up getting a new gym setup but it's it's pretty far away isn't it. Yeah a little. Yeah yes Is a little different spot. We ended up end up working with honor a just after after the bubble actually and so the end of going in going a little further. North wants the pandemic it and working out with a with adrian that gary spice and it's Since helped me a lot. I thought i thought. Connor switched over to how johnson and joy mcleod for trainers. I don't know if you saw the commercial virtual commercial as it gets. His acting is getting pretty good isn't it. He's the new. Tom brady very very good. Did you guys buses balls about all the acting stuff..

"They're good yeah. I an and look You know we've got Niche met coming up from the winnipeg jetson. He'll talk to us about the improvements made on that blue line. Mike smith by the way still thirty nine. So i i just wrap that up the thing that i like about what edmonton has done. You know you talked about zack. Harman's contract you kidding. All in isn't worrying about zakheim contract right. He's he's trying to win a stanley cup. That's obviously what he's trying to do. And so the big question mark were were putting one is on goaltending. I think that mika koskinen is going to be better it sounds like he's in a better head space. You know feels more comfortable with the surroundings with his family and all of that if they get quality goal tending to him that takes some of the heat off. Might smith if they don't then kennedy's have to dig into his bag of tricks and come up with something at the at the trade deadline. I i gotta tell you right. I keep people keep telling me the anaheim. Ducks are in full rebuild He you know. So what do you not to derail the talk deeply anaheim but if john gibson is a man in play via trade than i think edmonton has got to be a team. That looks long and hard at john gibson between now and when the deadline yet you know what if they're in full rebuild. I'm going to go to comment. Dj smith gave was talking to gord miller and myself we were just getting ready for one of the preseason games and he says you know when you're rebuild really starts is when you trade your last good player and and what he meant by that was you know they were. Senators had offloaded a couple of players. And then they trade gabriel patio and he was kind of that last connect to win the senators really good in the in that when they went to the conference final. I think it was twenty seventeen. And he said when they traded pozo then. The rebuild starts. And i was like. Oh that's a really good point. It is now you're either in full rebuild. Or you're not if you're not you're dead you don't it's it seems to me if you're not in full rebuild and your team is very good. You're in job preservation mode. Let you you gotta go one way or the other. I'm going to be stuck in the middle. Let's rob headlines with a quick thought. And the your levy trait to the florida panthers by the vancouver canucks. Was this just obvious. Given you know the attention that you'll love brought to himself through camp or unrelated it just time. It was time i looked he just. There's a job wide open there. And he couldn't separate himself from brad hunt who has been a really good Like four a player. You know really good in the american league a good player in the nhl but nada an everyday player. You'll love the fifth pick in the draft..

"A great guy. You're a veteran. i it's just getting old. You get hurt. I don't know how coskun in is still in the league You know they have arguably well not arguing. I was gonna say arguably the two best players in the nhl but there's no argument that connor mcdavid is the best player in the nhl. Then there's leon seidel number two or number three in the national hockey league but a terrific tandem can't do it enough. There are so many holes. There i know they picked up some pieces. That they think will be championship caliber. You know the zakheim hymens of the world's correct you know here's a guy. He was on my fantasy team last year. Of course he was with toronto. I loved him. But i mean this is real life emily. I can't live in a fantasy world. But i get disappointed. All the time with the oilers. So if there's a team that can knock them off and don't sleep on seattle like that. There was sleepless in seattle but never sleep on seattle. My thoughts on the oilers are exactly the same as yours. I don't understand why they didn't get a goaltender. I just don't like it's now practice as gm to me. Zakheim is a guy like great. You have him. And he's gonna add a ton of value playing alongside mcdavid. Yes played with austin matthews. But like that doesn't address the deaf down your lineup which has been the issue all along. It's not can we find someone to play next mcdavid. Wait find people to play behind mcdavid. Do you think that was a pretty good pickup. It really do amaral too. I mean let's talk about donkey guy. You know really well. So i wanted to tap into your brain about duncan keith. What's he got left as he still hungry he is. He's really hungry. He wants to play until he's like fifty he is like like brady obsessed with his body does infrared at home. I'll kind of weird stuff. Who but he's super competitive and are you super competitive though and i think it told on him to be in chicago last couple years losing and i do think that he kinda that veteran leader. Who's been there one before that the old hockey men do believe you need to win. But it's true. Sometimes we'll talk him. Do know right in some ways. And i do think you need that kind of veteran leader back there and for those who are laughing. Maybe you're laughing at me. Emily secretly about. I'm saying the crack and could win the pacific division like sixteen to one odds to win the western conference. I mean another preseason means absolutely zero. But what i've seen so foreign. I'm anxious looking forward to covering them. Obviously vegas opens up with them. At home against seattle on october twelfth on espn some afforded seeing them up close and personal but when you have that terrific goaltending tandem like philip grew chris trigger. That's half the battle okay. Pushy got those big burly defenseman or at least five. You've got a handful of big burly defenseman with leadership qualities marchiano. Donna is one of my favorite favorite players. Just gets it. Great leader you know. Obviously former captain with calgary flames. You know all of that. So i am not really counting out the practice. I'm not going to be surprised if they shake things up in the pacific division because it's a winnable division with you. I don't think it'd be a shock to make the plasma only question this team is who's going to score the owl's yeah so much strengthened their defense and i feel like this is one of those teams kinda like the national predators last year. We're like a defenseman. Romeo's your case leads them in points. Whether it's like vince. Don mark gear donahue just running the point and the power play so as long as they get enough offensive. Contributions like yes. Jaden schwartz and naturally. We'll get like really forty goalscorers or consistent point you know producers in this league maybe not on their own. So i'm a little worried for them on offense just the depth there but from the back end especially in goalie. There's deep is anyone and i'm with you. I think they can be a playoff. Yeah and then. There's like vancouver. You know. I mean very disappointing year last year for the thought thatcher dem cult took a bit of a step back. You know different things went on there. And they're you know as we speak. patterson went. They're always something going on marriage just like that. Just attracts chaos and drama. Yeah i just. It's really a shame and it's such a passionate fan base. Some of them are a little nutty by the way in vancouver. But it's a beautiful city as we know but you know. I just think i am afraid to parole my money at the center of the table where the vancouver cannot saw that. They're actually going to bounce back. Big enough yeah. They could get one of these playoff spots in the pacific division. There's no question about it. If the seattle take doesn't make it you know as a top three in the pacific division or edmonton for. Some reason suffers a horrific injury. Is somebody that you know. I won't even mentioned it. Because i'm not putting anything like that out in the universe i still believe in the edmonton oilers by the way. I think it's good for hockey but I you know. I know they still have got oliver edmund lawson kinda girl into now in vancouver got stars and of course you got once these guys sign are get extended join us and all that they should make the postseason they should grab one of those wildcards in the west. But if i'm vancouver canucks i'm really gunning forget the wild card you have to deal with another division you must. You must get one of these. Postseason bursts got finished in the top three. Yeah for me. The season goes is allies. Pederson goes it really does last year before the season i predicted it was like dark horseback that he was going to be. Mvp just because he was on that traja day and he didn't have a great season at all It just wasn't up to his standards. It didn't look like a star player this year. I'm looking again for him to be a superstar and if he is and he can make everyone around him better..

"Hundred. No surprise vegas plus eight fifty year. Okay with that. No i i am. I still like to see vegas have a center. Yeah are really what. I think that's That's this place. They stopped to one. Okay canadian fans. Nhl canadian team fans. Here you go. The toronto maple leafs are fourth on the list. I did i just. I don't know i just i. I don't see it because they haven't shown me yet right. They haven't i think they have more. I think they have more depth right to their roster but man they're hoping and crossing their fingers that one of those free agent guys can fit somewhat and phil zakheim and spot and and the obvious is the big boys have to deliver just plain just to give right so plus eleven hundred for the leaf so one hundred dollar bad again. Gets you a twelve hundred dollar return are you okay with the bruins and the top. Five plus sixteen hundred feels like things are slipping a little bit away from them. You know they two years ago. They lose it in or char They lose story cruch Now harass is out for who knows how long you can Can get enough goaltending without raskin. Halack linus ullmark from buffalo comes in as the as the number one guy i. I don't know that that feels a little high to me. Okay so you give this some thought. I want a couple of darkhorse teams all right. This the two thousand twenty two stanley cup winners. And as you think about that tied for the worst odds the arizona coyotes and the buffalo sabres both at plus thirty thousand to win the cup. So that's a thirty thousand. One hundred dollar return if you put a hundred dollars on either the sabers of the oats. I'd say both. Oh that's unbelievable return. It's a bad bet. So that's like taking brownie dollar. Bill's industry might be more interesting to see how many players on those teams. You can name the start. Yeah i mean yeah are completely turned over. Do you have a dark horse or two. I kinda think dallas is going to be a good team again They signed about twenty six guys. I mean like when they were going at free eight hala goalies too. so they're they've got good depth. I think they can score. Be interesting you know. I say there were darkhorse. Tyler sagan has des. Yeah has to be healthy. I think carolina can can be a dangerous team again. Okay it is shuffled through my papers and get the there we go Plus three thousand for the dallas.

"I could lose all my everything. I if the fear is rational than but your gut is telling you do it. I say do it. Yeah yeah and it's interesting. I don't know if. I know that we've never matters is the first time we're meeting so i mean i really do appreciate you taking the time and being here Today's you know obviously on a special episode here. We mentioned radio but You know one of the things that. I'm not even sure if you're familiar with or if you had a chance to do any research into who i am what i've done Is since around that same time. Two thousand eight two thousand nine albeit. I don't have a ted talk with twenty four million views. But that's other conversation but you know it's It's something that i've been teaching of around the whole concept of. What is your what so the book that i put on the new york times bestseller. Look it's called. what is your what. Discover the one amazing thing you were born to do. And i always get that question of what's the difference between your what's and you're y and maybe you can kind of give me some insight in terms of this resonates for you. But you're what to me is really that it's how you're naturally wire to excel. Dna is wired to a very specific way. And so the what is your. What equation combines your court gift which in your case is probably communication or teaching or something of that nature with the vehicle that you use to share that gift. And then lastly the people that you're most compelled to serve the gifts the vehicle and the people that comprise the what is your what equation and i believe that it is really really hard to create anything. That is sustainable. Or that doesn't have an expiration date unless you're super clear on what you're what is and so it's almost as if the what is internal in my way of thinking in the why is external and that's how i explain it which is the why what drives you. It's like you know if you want to help. Starving children in africa. Or if you want to basically feed the homeless. Or i'm going to start on the smoothing guess. I'm hungry this morning but the point is it's what drives you to do what you do. Whereas your what is everything. That's internal and kind of gives you that natural set of skills abilities. What's in your dna etcetera any. Take on the what versus wise. I explained it and that way semantic. Yeah so do you think the. Why is an internal thing as well. What do you think that the. Why is an internal thing as well in other words. I believe that the what. I believe that you're what choose you. It's not something that you choose right shows in you not that what you choose. Chosen antics a semantic debate. It's got tired of having the discussion with people what comes first vision or mission positioning or brand. You know it's it's it's a semantic debate and so i ask people who believe vision was primary and they said why do we do and i asked him. Mission was primary will. It's why we get out of bed. The brand impertinence. I both why we said okay. Well let's watch with me. Because i just got tired of semantic debates so this is another bait. I mean what i've learned. Is that the the. Why is safe on our upbringing. It's who we are. What drives us. It's what inspires us. It's not changeable you have one and it's fully formed by the time you're eighteen or nineteen hundred percent bass vile decision making what we do is measurable appealable and you can see it and touch it. And it's tangible if you reverse the definitions for a different model i want. That's fine but it sounds like what you describing is the same thing. Gotcha gotcha so on. He has a question and whatever question is does a couple of questions. Can i take a couple of days. Please yeah exactly. And that's and that's what. I was going to read off here unless you unless you can just see the feed and you want to just answer them directly unless so here's one How from s talk ginger. How you find someone with same vision or attitude. I said you know you want to attract people who believe what you believe in find people who believe in your cause While the way you find them is you start talking in a. We're social animals and if if you keep it to yourself how will anyone know what you stand for what you believe you know And so when i started talking about the why literally was every conversation when somebody says so what are you up to. I would tell them about the golden circle and at get together with old friends and old clients. Let's say what are you. I start drawing on napkins. I mean it was an obsession. It still is you know I couldn't. I couldn't talk about it because i was so amazed by it was a student but i wanted to keep learning and i wanted to keep talking about it so that i could take more and the more i talked about it. The more other people's that this is really interesting and people said i need you to meet somebody and the more i talked about it. The more introductions other people may and so my publisher the ted talk. Everything came from somebody else. Saying i want you to meet somebody. And so the only thing i committed myself to was being the clearest brightest lighthouse lighthouse. I i would practice articulating and communicating my message. My message in words so clearly that other people could repeat it without me being there. I made the decision trademark. Everything you know. What's that gonna do. All it means is. I'm the only person who can can use it and talk about it. I wanted to be open source. I wanted other people to take it and build on it. I believe delete desperately in spreading the message. And everything i said and everything i did. And every decision i made communicated what i believe. There's no mistaking when you read my books. Listen to my talks. visit our website. Anything that comes out of us. It's committed inspiration of people around us right. There's no mistaken and so if you want to attract able you've gotta be a lighthouse you to talk and talk and talk and it will be cumbersome at the start people will know what you're talking about fifty or one hundred times but if you believe in at you practice and practice and practice and practice when i first started talking about this stuff. People looked at me. Like i had three heads. That's how klein people believe what you believe in life and there'd be drawn to you just out of curiosity when you go back to the sort of the inception of star with. Wow which i know you were doing in talks and you were doing things long before the book came out. Did you have a book deal in place. I mean obviously you have a. I mean it was published but i would think that you know it was not so. Can you talk a little bit of the origination story. Then of the book. It's it's the same as the to the ted talk. Somebody said i remember. I think giving this talk for three years right in long form. I was out there talking talking spreading spreading in small forms. Ten people fifteen people thirty people you know making a thousand bucks sometimes nothing you. I was just out there communicating banging the drum and somebody said who knew somebody had a friend was putting on a tax event recommended me right. Same with the publisher. Somebody met me an editor. Who introduced me to her publisher. And i ended up having a meeting with adrian. Zakheim got business publishing the original publisher from good to great. And seth godin publisher and stan mcchrystal's and all that and we had a twenty nine minute meeting and three days later..

"Hamilton ryan -gree graves sorry who they just got from. Colorado yona siegenthaler. Who if you didn't watch much new jersey hockey. You don't know who that is but pretty good top six guy for for new jersey. Ty smith who all new jersey devils fans love thai smith. He was huge for them. This past year. He's only twenty one so and then damon severson in 'em. Pk sue band. Who's on that absolutely terrible. Contract of nine billion dollars just one more season to that and yeah. That's their top six. I mean that's a much improved top sex especially with the addition of dougie hamilton. So we'll see how that goes for new jersey and all that stuff probably the next big fish on the market was none other than zach. Hyman i. I don't think anybody even thought that that was going to go anywhere other than somewhere in canada but he goes from toronto to edmonton signs. The seven year deal thirty eight and a half million dollars in five point five million dollars per. What do you think of that contract. Christian. it's not bad. I mean it's long you wouldn't like it to be that long. I don't think for a guy that's twenty nine but you'll take it you on zakheim hyman so it's probably worth five. Point five isn't bad. I don't think i still think that's a little high for someone who mostly played on the second and third line in toronto. And i mean and his most effective place if you watch toronto honky was on the third line. And that's a lot to give somebody who's gonna play on third line five point five million dollars now if he's gonna play with In the top six. Which at that money. I would expect. He would then. It's probably fine. But again i don't know how much money he's really worth if he's going to be worth that much money if he's going to score twenty goals i really don't so is also getting a lot of assist. He gets a lot of points to is the big thing. So he's not. He's not just a goal scorer. So i think that that's like forty points a season but looks like he was pretty much averaging so i don't know i think being on the second line to give more of a role i think that are jammed for him to step up. I like it. I think. I think five one five is is high but everything is high this year. So yeah i mean he had. I mean this is just the last. The last three seasons case so twenty eighteen twenty one goals twenty s twenty nineteen twenty one goals sixteen assists and then this past season again in a shortened season. Fifteen goals in eighteen says and he only played forty three games this past season as injury. So i mean that's definitely twenty go pace and probably upper twenty goal pace..

"That you guys were sharing. But i think. I heard you talk about peter maroshek And i don't know if he were complementary or a colonel for that matter But was this a like a a deal that the toronto maple leafs can live with. Did they get better and placing freddie anderson with mirotic. You know what was your assessment. What is your assessment. They had three point. Eight million dollars to spend obviously like they. They weren't going to spend five million dollars on a goal. They don't have the cap space. So in acquiring neurotic to play him in tandem with jack campbell. I think a couple of things are clear one is there is not a standalone number. One goalie this is going to require some coaching and gut feel from sheldon kennedy or sheldon. Keefe rather i'm sorry sheldon. Keefe and steve briere the goalie coach to try and figure out. Who's the best guy at this moment. i think they're both gonna be the starter at some point. I think they'll both cool off at some point. You have to hope. It's not at the same time. I've known peter muratovic along time played american hockey league when a calder cup and grand rapids in the detroit system. He can run hot like when he gets hot and he can play. He's energetic is enthusiastic. But he's loose in the goal. When you're an acrobatic goaltender. There were times when whole spring up and and they're always is with peter eventually. But that's what you got jack campbell for the guy the guy that's gonna be the starter is campbell. Okay but what does that mean yet. That doesn't mean fifty five games. No it means you're the starter for game one and he's gonna play game to and you might play three and four and he's gonna play five and i think it becomes almost a fifty fifty split. Here's the thing jack campbell dregs. I've used this example before. I scored forty goals twice. I was not a forty goal score. I had career years. Those were there cold career years for a reason. Maybe last year for jack campbell. That was a career year if he stops the puck like this all the time. He's one of the ten best goalies in the league. I'm not ready to go there with campbell. I think they're going to have to massage the goal tending position. I don't think they're better. I don't think they're necessarily worse. But this is the deal. They had to make because they had to have a cap limit on what they were gonna pay their goal tending. They're talking about another forward to proven guy right Because they didn't do that with with the four forward assets that they brought in on wednesday. Is it crucial that they do that. And what type of player are we talking about here because you're not replacing zakheim with with what you brought in. All the bunting you know was interesting ad. I think he's going to be interesting. But you know are the art. Is this team. I can't be better. I don't think given what they lost but are they good enough okay. They're good enough. For.

"A no high end. Talent that can put the puck in the net. They still don't have high end. Talent that can put the puck in the net. And and so like. Let's put it this way you know jordan. Everley he wasn't even a first line player on the new york. Islanders a team that we think collectively as a as a analytics community or whatever. We don't think they're really You know that even offensive team. Let's say and even they were like kinda iffy on jordan everley up on the top line. Allow no no. He was playing with bars. Al boredom saying is like in their late scenario. Yeah yeah yeah area they. They wouldn't have been comfortable with like okay. Well mean one last thing. That kind of seems strange to me is that you see winberg go three years four point three and then about an hour later by costs on goes to montreal three years for five if you're looking at seattle roster and saying who is the guy that they should probably as in terms of what their needs. Are you probably say. Mike often like you know in terms of ican actually but the puck in the net and if actor on our plate which isn't something that they really have a yellow by. It's just kind of a kind of a weird thing you know and maybe you're from now. It's all going played itself out perfectly. They'll have set themselves up perfectly for next year's free agency or something like that but yeah it's it's it's strange. It's definitely a lot weird. I think you know even vegas was when they were putting that together. The the frustrating for me. I guess it's president. I think they're going to be good like in terms of the both divisional so defensive identity. I think they're going to win. A fair number of games But like a one satisfying argument at the direction they went would be if they were positioning themselves. For the next two drafts which are by all accounts loaded. And we're like all right we're gonna get top picks and try to get franchise players and build offensively through that route and these moves made them better Obviously not to a to a degree that lines up with how much they paid. And how much future term. They took on. But they now. They're kind of forcing themselves more towards the middle and as a team building philosophy. I hate that so not ideal Let's take a quick break here and then we're going to pick up with with more themes and notable signings all that after the break. Your turn give us your big theme or fourteen. You wanna talk about so if there's two things that gm's learned from the past two playoffs the first one is obviously the big. The big boys on defense second one is that the key to your success is a or checking forward. I who can battle it out. The coroner's data pucks recover them. And i think that this free agent class is pretty big on on that kind of player and they got some some long contracts that i think that we can predict are probably not gonna look to caught the second half talking a specifically Blake holman economics line. Zakheim being another. And i i think you can even talk yourself into gave her atlanta skog being a third guy now list in terms of three guys who play the type of game that we have learned in the past ten to age too well across the players thirties. Who nonetheless. I think managed to get themselves pretty long term deals that that teams are probably thinking at a pretty win now perspective about. Yeah i mean. The oilers gave hyman five point. Five over seven Reportedly were trying to get the eighth year. By trading with the leafs in a sign and trade ad leaves returned down a fifth and a seven to make that happen and bring the down a little. Bit I think there is an important distinction because on hyman in terms of i think he's gonna be really good on next year's oilers and he's actually going to help them quite a bit and he's sort of the right type of player. I wish that they would prioritize Finding their own zakheim before he gets paid and developing him. The ways ronald data in terms of clearly improved every year added new skills. Got this point rather than You know just going and paying a premium for the finnish. Finnish made product when he is twenty nine years old. And the other thing. Is you know investing in the way they did. I don't think anyone listening to this. Podcast to tell them the issues with investing pricey seven year deal on a twenty nine year old. That's gonna take them into his mid thirties. But i do think that in this particular case with highlands playing style even more so than than i'd say cold than atlanta skog We sort of saw in the postseason when he was a step slower because injury that he was coming back from he was less effective now. He was hurt probably still so. I don't want to hold that against him too much. But it was kind of a red flag in terms of what this player could potentially look like as a contributor an impact player as he gets into further into today aging process and slows down ever so slightly because he is so reliant on just causing havoc and getting the puck faster than everyone else in so you know. Those are obviously legitimate concerns. But i think if you're edmund jan you're probably can can holland and they dettori doesn't care about this. I mean just look at the offseason. They had so far in terms of the ages of the players they brought in but they're probably thinking we've got dreidel on his deal for four more years we've got a david on his deal for five more years They're both in their mid twenties. We can't afford to have any more ways season. So heck if we can get a couple productive years out of high in play with either of those guys i five one five will worry about the rest later and i imagined that was. It's pretty simple as that. They're the rationale for the deal. They gave out those players. Are you know like in the case of david and try seidel the thing that always gets me about the talk about you know the window is now we have to maximize the window as kind of justification for these contracts that we know are not gonna particularly. Well is that you know. I think that one thing that we can take away from the past couple of years is that is how important it is to make sure that your window as long as possible like is that you have as many of the can as you possibly. Can you know we saw cosby and malkin win backups. In their late twenties early thirties ovechkin obviously yet away quite a while. He was thirty one when he got his anthony stamkos at a big reason that they were kind of able to have so many of the can is. Because i don't think any of those teams really made the kind of big july first acquisitions. They weren't the ones who signed. The lucia's are clarkston or anything like that. They gave themselves the flexibility that they could essentially have a ten year window. And i think one of the issues that i have with what edmonton did. Especially and you know you could theoretically make the argument that that even colorado kind of this is that they emphasized so much. The next couple years like the short-term.

"Been for most teams. That's been very difficult positive. Few scouts Especially in the during the american hockey games when when when belleville is in ottawa and and the biggest complaint goats had wouldn't when they weren't watching the games live with the camera angles of the video and and looking what players do without the puck right and And and body language and these types of things that that veterans scouts key in on So this is very difficult and You know i. It's challenging and and and having worked with Just recently in the shooting session with with graham and brand clark who who Went over to. Brad slava to play Just because the ontario hockey league was shut down and That's a big disadvantage for the kids in ontario With the other two weeks in in the canadian hockey league were going on and they got some part of the scheduling and got a little more exposure ontario kids. That's a great point about you know just when you're watching and scouting on tv how much of the actual play the you miss. I think about it from a broadcast perspective as well like. Did you do any games where you had to call it off of tv. Because i'd imagine that would be pretty damn tricky. Now we did it. We did a couple and that is the one hundred percent correct because when you're watching it live and it's so much easier to watch as everyone knows from way up top but you can really see we've got the hockey sense to make that extra pass or who's got that vision In hockey sense really kicks in So it's an interesting point and Much easier to do the game live and much more comfortable. Yeah i would imagine so. I mean anything else. Grabby from the nhl draft not necessarily the senators. Certainly a lot of people were reacting to that. Logan may use election by the montreal. Canadians any thoughts on on that particular selection or anything else that grabbed you from the weekend in the nhl draft. We are just just not so much that selection because it only takes one team and And sure enough. it was montreal. And a lot of these teams will balk at it and And obviously he made a mistake Can't you can't cover that up but all it takes is one team. So it's not a surprise he was. He was selected I just think that the player movement going around the league Is going to be fast and furious yours as as Even even as we push towards torch free agency and we'll see how fast these dominos fall and even secondary guy That that's really fascinating for me. How much he's going to get paid as a guy like zakheim who's Who's who's very good Nhl player but it is simply going to get in a bidding war ear. And you're gonna get overpaid. So i that fascinating part of the game and the The extension of the draft in the free agency in the traits. Yeah the trades are well. That's sort of for me anyway. That's top of mind. Because i'm really amazed at what happened with marc andre. Fleury and vegas today. Marc andre fleury was traded to the chicago blackhawks. And it's a clear salary dump but as we're learning according to alan walsh. According to lots of reports that flurry found out on twitter..

"Didn't try here. They got beat by a big offer. That is offer. Okay taylor hall. And the boston bruins. What's the latest okay so at one. Pm eastern the freeze lists I think the first deal we could see down is barkley good role. That one should be announced on thursday taylor hall and boston. They're working towards it there. I think there's a hope that that one gets announced on thursday times. Six ish zakheim in. I think that's gonna come down to does toronto make trade at least don't have a ton of picks they've trade a lot of picks they might wanna get one back from edmonton by hyman was in edmonson on wednesday. Like to me if they're gonna make a deal with the maple leafs. It's an eight year deal and it could be announced as soon as thursday. It's a seven year deal that probably gets announced on the twenty eighth. That's kind of what we're looking at here. And i think it's going to come in the total dollar amount. I think is probably gonna come in somewhere around. Forty million give or take a little bit if it's an eight year deal. I think it's gonna be fortyish regardless of whether it's eight or seven. That's a whopper of deal for zach. Hyman and we said last week in toronto went to eight years. But i don't think the av is where it's going to be here even just like looking at the career and time in the nhl like he'll go from playing with austin matthews to playing with connor. Mcdavid whatever.

Like i don't think this team is going to have any problem. Marketing complex. Like they're going to be fun to watch. They're going to be hard working. You know there's going to be you know double digits of fan favorites So i you know. I think overall if this team is bad it's gonna be bad in kind of a respectable and enjoyable way and and if they're good than as found money and it definitely have some good ended an interesting pieces on this stance all right like it. Why i don't know because you can all cheer for whoever you want to cheer for but man the game was going to be close anyway. But i'm assuming italy would have been the favourite by a margin a narrow narrow margin greg's twitter fifty one percent to forty nine percent. Now you know. I'm not a huge gambler right. I love having chats as do you with cool beck curse curse abbott from quebec. But i know very little about it. So i'm watching the euro two thousand final with three bodies and one guy's an italian fan the other guys cheering for england. So hedge my bets right well. The one guy cheering for england. He's actually england wasn't there so he didn't know what was going on. So i bet twenty bucks that england would win with my body cheering for italy and then i bet fifty with my guy who was cheering for england. Who wasn't there. The italians win. So i came out thirty bucks a head. That's that's good hedging their no wa- it is because you want otherwise you would lost thirty. I couldn't well. That's true our that. I that tournament the way it's structured and the teams that are in it the countries that are in it is just great theater just so much fun i was. It was a fantastic final. All right. let's get to the headlines presented by tommy guns original barbershop and while we were going through our prep work. Talk about the podcast this morning. Thursday morning tweeted abode zakheim. The toronto maple leafs having permission to wows agent. Todd reynolds has permission to speak with all clubs around the national hockey league about a potential trade. So what that means is his rights would be traded or they could do sign and trade and toronto gets a little bit more potentially In that regard as well pretty clear indication and leaves fans on twitter..

"Have got mountains of news. Montreal shea weber situation zakheim in toronto. Gabriel land gog with colorado avalanche. I mean we're recording this podcast app so thirty one thursday morning and i feel comfortable in saying by friday night. Lot of what we've talked about it's going to be somewhat. Aided but jr is the season. You enjoy this time of year. Doing i kind of don't because it just means i'm on the clock twenty four hours so we don't love that aspect but i do like how the landscape of each club and league in general can change because of all of the activity. I like it a lot. I mean it's interesting. There's lots of cool things that happen. I fully support your twenty four hour work at work rate here during the next week or two weeks or whatever. It's going to be. But i like it. I think it's interesting because every player that is available. Most teams are most fans of team. Think how that player can help them. You know it's almost like silly season because some of the players. Yeah they would help but it can't happen. There's no money there's no fat. there's no something or other. So i'd like the enthusiasm. That's one of the reasons. I'd love to see there. Be some provision to retain salary on a franchise player. If a team so chooses. I think would open up some trades during the year. It's part of the interest of it and this month in hockey which is usually previous month. I mean this is the time. It's june july that things really hap- yeah i in a lot is going now but obviously got the expansion draft looming. You've got the draft after that you've got all sorts of trade scenarios that are in play and sometimes we over sell that in our business because you'll want there to be a ton of activity but there will be with july twenty eight being free agent frenzy. Don't have this in the headlines. But i want your opinion on this. You know it's a flat cap for this upcoming season. Maybe even the season after that right and look we know that the free agents coming into this past season felt it..

"Is no code. I've never been handed a copy of the code. I don't know what it is and you play in a long time by the way with some tough dudes. Yes you feel the code like there's a sense of what it is but there is no code there are no. There is no handbook and so the people that are arguing about it online and make lots of noise about it. They know even less about it than i do because they weren't there and they've never been there now. I understand the emotionality of the response. Ettler hit was bad and he got suspended and toronto's not happy because they lose zach hyman and their their guy is hurt so they're looking for retribution. If if the league doesn't want that to happen. The only way i can think it can happen is to make the suspension in her directly involved with the team that that incident happens. So of alexander gets two games or four games in a normal season. He would edward got two games. The next two games have been against somebody else at toronto doesn't get any any satisfaction from that the cannot slough would lose adler four games against chicago and pittsburgh or whoever it was if it's against toronto. Maybe that matters a little more. Because i cannot be more clear on this what i think. The code is what A player today thinks the code is a player on another team of today. Thinks the code is is all different. Yeah it's different because there is no written down of this has to happen. Do you think you should have skated away. Do you think alexander should have just said look. I'm not fighting. you don't need to fight you. i. I served my two game suspension buzz Yes but it's easy to say. Because i'm sitting here on my coach when you're in that moment you feel this unwritten code like you feel it again and so he probably felt well first of all he probably looked up and saw wayne simmons and went off for crying out not him. Yeah because simmons could really do a number on and to simmons credit. I think there was a point there where he kind of thought in the fight. I mean i could be wrong. But i thought in the fight simmons what that's enough and any stopped like he could've kept going and he did. He's clear he's fighting a guy that doesn't fight. I think ever felt. I have to take this fight. I i think it's wrong as i sit here as long retired blair but in the game. It's different it it just is. I wish i wish i could explain it. I wish i could explain it more clearly. But that's when you're in it. It's different than when you're viewing it from the perch which we do we. We all do it media in general. Of course the other thing that was a head scratcher me was the suggestion that okay well if there needs to be a fight than needs to be someone other than wayne simmons. It needs to be closer to alec sadler non fighter. Well i mean who does that. Is it like ilya mckay of like. Are we going to be happy. Just somebody some random. Toronto maple leaf fighting alexander in honor of of zakheim and that doesn't make any sense to me either. It doesn't and here's another reason why it doesn't because then people are going to look at wayne simmons and say. Why didn't you address this hunter percent and so what wayne supposed to go out and say while he's not really in my weight class and these four guy like it doesn't work like that it's.

Now he's had a change of heart, but it's probably too late. Atrocious. The attack was on the Capitol and everything that's going on lately. You know, we feel that we need to go above and beyond that, and I think it's Zakheim Tol explore doing algorithms to flag content and advance. You know, we'll still keep the idea of people are innocent before proven guilty. You know, it's it's just We think it's a violation. So if it is, if you if it's a false positive, and you believe you're actually innocent, and you should be able to send it to the jury to make that determination, So we're trying to be more proactive about it.
