A.J. Green keeps future with Bengals up in the air: 'Who knows what is going to happen?'

"Green had a decent game yesterday He after the game was Noncommittal about his future is going to help him with that. Aj thank you. i love you. You're going to be thirty three years old next year. See it's not here not here. I mean this is. This is not something that's franchise should have to wrestle with. I do think you referenced atkins before. I do think one of the most interesting off season questions is do they move on from a guy who played a whopping seven snaps yesterday and they are roughly thirty million dollars to over the next two years. Do they move on tough. How do you not you have to start moving on from old bed players. You're your goal for the next. Three games should be to figure out who you on this roster that you can go with. It's not no atkins gino watkins. It's not going to be jay green next year them. We just we just let go of back in two thousand fifteen. They were good because for years. It seems like that's driven. The strategy gives them rewards player but andrew. Whitworth give your young lineman chance. Give some linebackers chanson and go from that. You have to figure out what you have. At some capacity because of all the whole we just mentioned in the last segment with the new england patriots cling to jeans seconds to about the current state of their team which is not great but would they cling to gino atkins. Because it used to be good a long time ago no or because. They felt like they owed him something with the pittsburgh. Steelers no with the baltimore ravens with lynn. The san francisco forty nine know what. Zack taylor's old teams. Move on move on from expense. Ami did it last year underperforming players. The dolphins were oh and seven and tanking moved on. Yes people what are they taking doing this publicly. Okay there now. Competing there in the playoff hunt. They went toe to toe with the chiefs. Like they're in a better position. I think there's a place in the nfl for jay green. I do on like a two year deal green bay or something. I don't know that there's a place in the nfl for gino acts

"Decisions Zack Taylor had never call plays in the NFL with the exception of a five game stint with the Miami Dolphins dim preclude him from getting a job how many places very be enemy been a part of calling for the Kansas City Chiefs at the highest level in he's a bagel guy right for all our auto use a bagel you too of AT reed's former assistance former office of coordinators had been hired as head coaches they didn't call plays either so there'd be anything is head scratching he deserves an opportunity I think his body of work would suggest he deserves an opportunity I called better place and Zach Taylor my search my my I believe so hotel called worse my understanding is P. enemy when he interviewed with the Bengals his his his philosophies didn't jive with other bangles view their offense being structured where they I think kind of want things revolve around Joe Berle or around Joe makes in the end he was talking about chucking the ball all over the place like he does with Pat my home well so that in itself might have kept him from getting the Cincinnati job and that's just what I've heard but in terms of of more minorities becoming NFL head coaches I think the idea that marvelous deserves a second gig is laughable I certainly would blame the team for hiring him marvelous has NFL coaching bona fides but he doesn't deserve another opportunity he was given to the two opportunities to interview for jobs with the Washington and with Dallas both of those franchises hired head coaches who have coached in the Super Bowl one of them has one one Marvin Lewis hasn't done that it wasn't like those two franchises hired these these men who are or lack qualifications who don't deserve it who don't have experience both of those men have won if Marvin got again I hope for Marvin to get a gig because I think it would be fascinating to see how he would do the franchise not run by my friend but the idea that he deserves an opportunity is is ludicrous Stephen a Smith passes question Jerry Jerry west why they're more American white players in the NBA and Stephen A. Smith brought that up and I'm I'm watching this on waiting for an answer from Jerry west who knows where the bodies are buried perhaps the great one you know he's a logo he's he's done it all yeah and he stumbled and fumbled even though the great majority basketball players in America or white mothers grade school high school the other was the pool is tens of million strong okay but I I think the fact that I Stephen a Smith talked about the last time a white American was like an NBA all star and it went back twenty some years why there's not enough good ones that are NBA caliber and were were pulling players from a larger pool than ever before because the globalization of the game what white American born basketball player is on the outside looking in the deserves a roster spot in the night and they'll sixty minutes did a report that the Syracuse white guard that was still working out in it was quick he was fast but then he was guarded and suddenly could get a shot off right that's a problem right so you could know the to me they're they're mutually schools visions you could say to me boy what's working against the enemy and you could wonder if that's racism on an anecdotal basis in the NBA tell me who the white American born basketball player the deserves an opportunity that's not getting what tell me who that is I can't think of what exactly because he doesn't exist if you can play better why you why not there's not enough good ones why they're there just aren't or dirt or just not enough good why there are quality white American born players in the NBA JJ Redick is at a very long career after being named the player of the year in the country at Duke about fourteen fifteen years ago has had a very good length the NBA careers are players who are white who have been born in the United States who have gotten opportunities by the way there's also white players who were not born in the United States that might not be more fun player in the NBA to watch right now than deluca Dutch might not be a more but a better combination to watch than him and Kristoff's forcing us neither of those players were born in the United States tell me who the white American born basketball player is that's not getting an opportunity to deserve one what's the last of his savior you see was a dormant Justin Dorman had a very lengthy career overseas right played eight or nine years he was never going to play in the NBA that was not going to happen what I discovered from deer park NY is that when I played a six two quick as a cat Jim battle version does in the funeral business right and he would attach himself to me during practice I had difficulty getting my shot off right it was the second so so in in recent years I've watched Jimmer Fredette member Jimmer for daily what use would pull up from the Steph curry ranges of P. why you have these insane point totals and I remember watching him going okay he'll get a chance an NBA team will take a chance on I think the Chicago Bulls did and he won't be able to get a shot off as it turned out Jim referred in the NBA cannot get a shot to go to China someone to China as a star member Adam Morrison at a more simply to again sag yeah I was the player of the year I believe Xavier played him in the NC double a tournament I want to say oh seven I think Xavier beat him how much of it as last college game but anyway Adam Morrison said every conceivable record at a great college program got to the NBA could not get a shot right about love Tyler Hansbrough played for a long time in the NBA but had a marvelous career at North Carolina national champion ACC player of the year the NBA couldn't get a shot off that's often what happens it doesn't diminish their college of compliments but there is I I I I always laugh when people who watch a lot of college basketball to watch the NBA tell me that the NBA plays no defense and I go well then why do all these great college basketball players get to the NBA and then within two or three years they're done it's because the defense is so good that these guys can get a shot off and that is often that happens all the time with with African American players as well Sean Kilpatrick had as good a career at the university of Cincinnati as as anybody I mean it was the second all time leading scorer in the history of the school got to the NBA didn't have point guard skills was a little older is a twenty four year old college senior but more than anything couldn't get a shot off that there's no reason now lastly saver you see I think it's been thirty five years or so since neither team made it to the NC double a turn eighty five was in nineteen eighty five was our what are the odds of that happening this year I contend pretty good I haven't looked at that bracket projections since last week's none of them had you see him I would imagine that none of them will still have you see and Xavier certainly trending downward I got rocky Borman says the best fried chicken on the world's at the farm and rocky boy may want to talk about that issue on race at two thirty five that's fine by me and let's get it out because I I there's no reason not to talk about I have no problem with any other issues you want to continue with my you scenes everything my guess is that you're going to get it if Cincinnati can beat Memphis on Thursday all star to talk my cells in America Xavier faithful love Travis deal it might be the quality and the character of the players themselves that have to really dig down and they can't shoot I'm watching the other game one of the issue twenty six threes against great there's a reason they were open why were they open this is not a good shooting team what I and and I'm sure the coach for greatness the great movement was a McDermott I'm sure he said women don't guard him a three line Intel the star making three yeah I was in you know their stretch this in the the for the next five include a trip to crate and a trip to Seton hall who just beat him in a play mark market twice with markets Howard who who might be the player of the year in the league so there they just had a stretch of three games in a row this in town center they lost two of them that on the heels of losing at Villanova the Biggie schedule provides a lot of opportunities for good wins and last year they were down and came back yeah they they did and they did that largely on the strength of their defense and to me the Xavier team number one you've got to start to get more from the bench when they've lost games or nearly it's been because our bench has been almost nonexistent and yes there's a lot to use there but you need some of those players to step up to make for make up for some of the office of deficiencies of the starters and the other thing is a there's gonna win games on the strength of its on the strength of its defense and the last two games defensively they have certainly shown a a some regression isn't a good to have me back it's great to have you back it's nice to have you here I always I always get a chill when I look at my phone and I see that you've called me let's continue with more if the line becomes available five one three seven four nine seven thousand pounds seven under the new agency we all want everyone to rise or fall based upon their own abilities not based upon the skin color and so the enemy deserves an opportunity to be head coach if you give a desired Taylor who simply doesn't have near the pedigree of someone like Jerry be enemy and the bangles our organization committed to diversity and Katie Piper brown is headed diversity the NFL why would you not how are a Bengal who is experiencing success over somebody who was defensive backfield coach for you see well he was the offense of coordinator you see what I did make a difference right now right I think if if you just look at it on the surface now we're not there in those rooms well coaches in interviews matter when you look on the surface at the body of work by the Kansas City Chiefs offense last couple years vertigo one woods and concluded that the offense of coordinator even if he is not directly calling the plays vertigo deserve an opportunity ahead of some of the people you see getting higher no thank you thank you let's continue with more bill Cunningham coming up next is the the lawyer for the "We've got what's this patriots scandal I I can't believe it. I can't believe whatever reading here. It happened last Monday at a a press conference Bengals head coach Zack. Taylor was asked by Bengals. Radio analyst Dave Lapham about whether quote the Patriots had a videographer up in the bengals press box area Working with an advanced scout that was taping video. The bengals sideline during the Cincinnati. Cleveland Game Taylor replied that he was aware there was an incident in the. NFL was investing later that day. The Patriots responded with the statement said the organization's production crew had been filming a video for their team websites. recites the pats website has a series. Do Your job and what they were doing was apparently highlighting an advance scout right so the Patriots are set to play the bengals. Does this last Sunday the previous Sunday they are at a bengals game. Apparently doing a documentary on an advance scout. Okay this of course could be read as a preplanned excuse because in two thousand fifteen. ESPN's Seth wicker champion. Don Van Natta report on a piece on spy gate deflate gate founded founded Patriots record had recorded forty games between two thousand and two thousand seven and their cameraman were given excuses if they got caught quote the Patriots videographers. We're we're told to look like media members to tape over their team logos or turn their sweatshirts inside out to wear credentials and said Patriots. TV or craft productions videographers. Were also given excuses for what to tell NFL security. They asked what they were doing. What are the chances the Rams will make the playoffs?

"Does it do to the rams next year? You still think I mean it sounds like from the way you set up that they should get into the postseason. They're still set up very very well but obviously it would be the most disappointing disappointing thing for them to go from Super Bowl Super Bowl comp- contender did not even making the postseason. That's feel good. That can happen Kirk. I mean that's that's not out of the ordinary Mary because it's not in your hands right right like you need help correct. You gotTa have the Minnesota Vikings which I wouldn't be shocked if they lost that game to Green Bay right. I wouldn't be shocked diff- I wouldn't be shocked if they go to and one in these final three. That's not that's not crazy but I don't think I'd be shocked to if we saw the rams lose at San Francisco. Oh right you're not going to be shocked on that one either. I wouldn't be shocked face. I think San Francisco is the best team in the NFC and they've proved it by You know beating who I thought was the top team in the NFC. Two of the top teams being both Right they curb stopped the Green Bay and then they basically jumped last week. The New Orleans yeah right at the end like basically they try it website. I mess it up. They tried to jump George Kendall on fourth and two and yet he dragged him all the way down the field and they kicked a field ago. But I'm not surprised What may happen with the ramp to what I am saying is that they can still go on like you mentioned and be ten and six and did not make the playoffs? Is that a successful season. It's not successful. Because they didn't go to a super bowl or when champion actually is everything. But when you think about the year after team wins the superbowl and and what they've had to deal with and at the end of the day weaken right that story with the Rams and say what did they lose because when you win Super Bowl or you have a successful season. Yeah people start to steal from you. They want they want some of that from they take from you remember. They took Zack. Taylor the Rams Offensive Coordinator quarterbacks coach now the head coach coach Cincinnati. And we'll see what's having a great year but you still do you take away some of that right. You lose coaches on the defensive line. There's some things that the rams have had Floor two years ago. Head coach of the Green Bay packers because success of the team. I can say that at ten and six and I said this at the beginning of the season and I'm still saying the rams are going to be eleven and five and ten and six and I promise you they'll be a better team than they were in two thousand

"These are just mistakes that you can't make <hes> that you that especially that your captains can't make <hes> even though it's preseason game one even though dalton in malone don't have the same. Maybe the same type of chemistry that he and a._j. Green do he in tyler boy. Do i don't know they just seem that seemed like too big mental until mistakes from two captains because even though dalton's was more of a physical type of thing he he can make that throw i mean we talk read his arm strength. I mean he can make that throw and he should make that throw so to me. There were some routine things that that bothered me. There were some penalties throughout the game and in someone told me <hes> you know they saw zack taylor visibly frustrated by the penalties <hes> so to me if strictly talking kind of about dalton i mean that's one of the guys who wanted to focus on. I did like the intermediate throws he in tyler boyd. Look at by the way tyler boyd was kind of the other thing <hes> the other kind of captain initials guy off a fresh new big contract almost has a devastating play which technically could have been called as it was on the field a a fumble ish type of play so you know three kind of early game type of type of mistakes. Maybe it's butterflies. Maybe it's rust. Maybe it's all the above but can't have that from three of your better players in my opinion and even though it is a preseason game. I want to say that from my cousin investigations when you say that because for me my mind biggest hope i guess not necessarily to prove any building because you basically said it's done but i think what the hindu cream more <unk> receivers only saw <unk> it will still connector.

"Oh Yeah I'm super proud twenty-eight people with the title of general manager there is exactly one who is non white need this disparity and its attendant frustration upon minorities ladies walk a path to N._F._l.. Power it feels evergreen. So where do you think the blame might actually lie slavery. I don't know like the the tied to systemic racism in this country. That's been here forever so I like to blame the N._F._l.. Alone I think is unfair but they are the people who were looking at now and they put up this picture as if it's going to make us feel better about their diversity they tried to put the three minorities in the middle of the trick the Ron Rivera Anthony Lynn Brian Flores Triangle yes they group them together to trick us but I do believe that it is it is their responsibility to take a deliberate effort to address this and and while it has improved the perception has gotten so much worse especially last year where you see a guy like Vance Joseph and Steve wilks just one year they fire and then they bringing coaches like Chris Kingsbury who was frankly a loser in college to me. Literally like literally was head a losing record as a college coach and not not even top programme they give him a head coaching job and it's no slight against Kingsbury but it looks quite bad guy like Zack Taylor we haven't had much experience in <hes> off or coordinating offenses but they give him a head coaching job Freddie kitchens another guy just like you were just coach like position coach a few months ago and it's not no slide against them. It's fine. I'm happy for more power to him. I want him to succeed but when you have that in light of the disparity in the absence and that's just coaches general managers it gets even worse and owners. Let's not talk about that that well. When you talk about the legacy of systemic racism in America it does feel like it's worth looking at the very top and it is in fact zero black owners in the N._F._l.? It isn't fact zero Black Club presidents in the N._F._l.. And so yes when it comes to these photos they're striking. Sean Payton in in this story says the photos are worth looking at a G._M.. Says this stuff cannot stand because this is a league predominantly black back and yet when it comes to these individual hires like there is a trap there too because in every one of those cases. There's an individualized story so you can actually say this is why Taylor makes sense. Oh this is why Brian Florez makes sense but why he wouldn't have made sense in this other case. Why aren't the enemy did not make sense? This year is hiring cycle and so I do feel like right there is something to seeing the forest through the trees because all of these individual trees may be justifiable but the numbers speak for themselves they speak for themselves and it is like I mentioned before it's a deal so you have to make a deliberate choice and go out of your way to adjust this. I'm not sure while I do encourage more policies and you make it more or make it easier for owners and for general general managed to be around black handed. I'm not sure unless you decide that something that you want to address that. It's something that you're capable of addressing in Tony Dungy talked about in this piece how it seems like owners owners. Don't frankly know what they're doing. They don't know what they're looking for. They're just kind of guessing and it's just guessing. Why don't you give someone a chance that that really deserves a chance?.

"I was hoping you would ask this exact question the peekskill it's about a one I I don't know I mean compared to last year when it was nine point nine because of his shoulder this is this pales in comparison to last year's concerned. He said he he's played through worst pain basically they they. He said if he had to play tomorrow he'd be. He'd be all right the play he's got five or what five or six weeks before the season starts. I'll do it all that he's had an injury for three months that has not gotten better doesn't bother me I mean especially when they said like previously that he would be ready for training game and we're very confident I would put it higher because Andrew luck sounds sounds like you said he sounded practically dejected when he said it's going backwards. He said the injury was going backward and he was frustrated because it's been it's been and months and it it doesn't seem like it's serious four one four one dollars still some still some triples of your point one. That's on the right so you know no concern. I would jake brisket. I'd say just get them loose. Keep them ready God. I hope I don't have to watch him play for a whole year but this is obviously something to watch and we talked about it on the show that they cited the Kevin durant injury as you know a template in terms of be extra careful with this last thing we need is Andrew lucked suffering another serious injury so it makes all the sense in the world to bring them along extra very slow but how about some positive developed nothing good comes from training camp at all just negative which on that very topic like A._J.. Green yes he was injured in the first or the practice training camp at that field with all the pebbles on it he will miss regular are multiple regular season Games which is not the outlook that was originally presented he underwent ankle surgery on Tuesday and when they went in there to check it out they realize the damage is a little bit more severe than anticipated so it went from the hope that he would be ready for week. One to expected to Miss Multiple Regular Season Games rap sheet reported Zack Taylor the new bengals coach confirmed that it is going to be a bit of time on the shelf for a superstar wide receiver <hes> and yes by the way Cincinnati follows an opening a week one trip to Seattle with games against the niners bills is an steelers so they could use their best player and they're not gonNA have him for at least the first couple of games. It looks like maybe more I was taken by Isak Taylor immediately putting that timeline out there almost as a way to send the signal to green like take. You know we're behind you. It's like a player friendly move. We're going to put this timetable out as far as possible. Coaches usually don't do that saying Oh. He's definitely going to miss some games in the regular season like don't rush it you know if he comes back earlier than that then then you look like a hero and that will be a pleasant surprise but I thought it was interesting interesting. He went out of his way to kind of. Take the pressure off moving on Trent Williams. Where's the out with the redskins? It's not good everything we're hearing. Hearing is negative that it is a <hes> relationship that is fractured beyond repair while the Athletics Jeff how reports that the Redskins are quote having trade discussions regarding Williams and how added that the Patriots Greg Boys expected to be in the mix if Williams does hit the market. He's on the record William saying he's not gonNA play for the redskins anymore so if this is bad as it seems we could see a trade coming. Where yes he's thirty one? He's had some issues issues injury issues but these type of offensive lineman West don't typically wiggle free this close to the start of the season..

A.J. Green's injury on 'subpar' Bengals practice field will cost wide receiver up to two months

"Speaking of injuries unfortunately an M._r._i.. Has revealed that Cincinnati Bengals Wide Receiver A._J.. Green has torn ligaments in his left. Ankle is according affording to Schefter here. They are likely to sideline green six to eight weeks up really not a good situation and teammate Tyler Boyd questioned the turf. The team was practicing on when green was injured. It was terrible. I couldn't run any routes out there. I'm falling all over the ground man it was it was bad. It was rocks pebbles out there man it was somewhere we should have been just feel like the turf was old. You know it just wasn't we didn't get good traction in and out of her breaks. You know a lot of guys not just me was on the ground but I mean who wasn't up there that long but there's gotTa make a word man. We gotta get it well. The turf was that welcome stadium at the University of Dayton where the bengals are practicing coach you buy this well. I haven't seen the video really in this instance probably not but I will say that you know feel. Surfaces are very very important for player safety. You know whether it's a grass field you know what is the old school latch with Pittsburgh steelers. We practice on hard old school astroturf every day for five years so no you got to look at it but in that instance I think it was a matter of the kind of rolling up on the back of his ankle and that was what I saw caused that particular injury about sure it was the field service problem here in addition to the injury of course which is is paramount is the optics of this and when you have a player who says this sort of perception is reality and then then it's out there and you got players. You might believe this is the case whether the optics to this are awful and this time of year teams are trying to realize their fan N._B._C.'s. I've been a part of that for a number of years. Every team has an operations department and kind of like the offensive line. You'd never talk about the operations department until there's a problem and part of their responsibility is to advance where hotels are safety of the fields whether or not the field deal with safer not now the perception is that it was a problem now e._j.. Green fairness may have gotten hurt it was on their practice field but they're players now think that was a factor and they're at the University of Dayton given rookie head coach. He's trying to establish himself itself and now he has a problem in the locker room because these players are questioning what the organization did and that Operation Staff that you're referring to my signed off on the practices being here the League went to them. They sent a site survey team to inspect the field and that site survey survey team for the Bengals said this field is okay to practicing and maybe they thought it's one practice we can get through now. You've got a situation where you see A._J.. Green get hurt on this play and we can take another look at it right here where he goes up for the past the D._v. lands on his ankle. He's on the turf tears ligaments in his ankle. He's going to be sixty weeks. Think about how much is at stake your now. You have a first year head coach Zack Taylor who's trying to come in and implemented program. They've already lost their first round draft. Pick joyner Williams to a season ending injury. Now you lose your left tackle. You lose your number one wide receiver. They are at a loss there and A._J.. Green himself is going into the last year of his contract so at a time when we're talking about new deals for Michael Thomas in Amari Cooper Julio Jones guess who else was on that list of A._J.. Green so what happens now to his value as argument now that he is going to be out for some period of time and organization standpoint. That's a really difficult position because A._J.. Degrees could say hey. I've done all the right things. I was out there practicing at the university because you wanted me to and now that's going to hurt me and take money out of my own pocket. It could really cause a situation to go awry very quickly and again even if the operations team went through all the protocols the the perception is that this feel wasn't safe and now they have a problem with one of their best players. Yeah I think that team without J. Green if you look at their record versus with huge and so he's a big part of their team. He's going to be missed. This is that there's a fair amount of injury here to start. You know this is not the way not the way you want to get off the ground. No team does last last year he missed time with a toe injury and when he was out of there the offense did not operate the same toddler boys production fell off and everybody thinks talent boy. We'll just emerge as the number one guy and he's a really good wide receiver but the fact that matters A._G.. Green when he's out there makes tyler. Holler bought a better received. John Ross still has not stepped up as the first round draft pick that he was. He says he's ready to do that. Will they need him to do that. They've got some other players Alex Berenson some good young receivers but A._J.. Green is on a level with Julio Jones. He's is that kind of talent and when you Jack Taylor coming into his offense it's hard to get by without somebody that good.

"You think he's retiring? But do you think would you say one or two? I think he plays at least two more years, how did he play on responded? You'll be. Gotcha. We're projecting the future here. Okay. On this. No better. We're spending on this is time for worst to first, which team can go from dead last to the top of their division fifteen last sixteen seasons. We have seen at least one team be able to go worst of I last year was to Houston Texans, and the Chicago Bears while we're both where bounced from the playoffs during that wildcard round so rest start by looking at the Cincinnati, Bengals the Bengals went from four and one to start the year two six and ten to finish the year, ultimately fired their head coach, what are the chances, they go worst till I in two thousand nine hundred well their chances Jack I'm giving them a fifteen percent chance, which we were with us talked about the NFC north is much better than I have for the lions. I think that Zack Taylor is a perfect fit for the Cincinnati Bengals and I think it's a it'll be a brush Affreux. They're easy for you to say yes for those those players fresh breath there. Get that. Their offices improved. I think their personnel wise defensively, pretty good the culture will change. The favorite. No, of course not. But to have a young offensive minded coach kind of get the best out of the team kind of seeing a little bit with Sean McVeigh and, you know, so the Bengals would be my team to kind of make that happen percents. I'm going to agree with you. I'm gonna go ten percent. Listen, it's takes time to change culture NFL locker room. And as much as you would think the Bengals are as much talent as you have. It's tough to get together six and ten last year. I would see that being about the same this year. Maybe a little better if they get hot at the right time, but I don't see them pushing for the division here. So Baker had six wins as a starter. We mentioned that earlier seventy and won miss the playoffs with their chances of getting to the top of the division, I think have about a twenty five percent chance of getting the top of the division. I mean twenty seven touchdowns for Baker and his rookie season. Not starting all sixteen games now surrounded with better talent than he was year ago. Look. Yeah they won seven games. Remember they one zero the previous season. I just there's a lot of change last year for them. So look the big. Issue for me is because I feel like I could have easily had them with a higher percentages. How does that talent come together? Yes. They have the talent to, to be a favourite to win revision..

"With keeping him necessarily this offseason. Let's just what are they in love with Zack Taylor. I mean, the Bengals Tobin chilly committed to it seems like they have AJ, and it's AJ so good. Like, what are we? We just keep him that I think they're defining trait market loyalty, their backfield is interesting they've mixed. And of course, and GIO Bernard's been there for a while. Now, they added somebody in the draft in Trayvon Williams is everyone's safe there the current cast. I think so they had to cut Mark Walton the guy they drafted in the fourth round last year to play running back because he got arrested three times between the end of the season. And like the middle of March can't do loyalty is a good word for it. They have more drafted players on their roster than anything by far. There's more homegrown guys thirty nine it was like six or seven more than any other time in the NFL throws. All right. The Pittsburgh Steelers. So Pittsburgh, as we did something very unpaid Berg like draft day, they traded up. They got Devon Bush a tenth overall. It is their first pick inside the top ten since who Choi Paul amount. No, they moved up to get home. Going eleven high was blacks, go bursts all those years ago, anyway, so Bush he's supposed to be the Ryan shazier placement. And God knows they've been looking for that since Shazia went down with that terrible injury. They've you seven straight first round picks on defensive players. Elsewhere from that draft. So they turned Tonio Brown into Deontay Johnson, Toledo wide receiver and tight end Zach gender, gentry. We'll see how that all plays out. It doesn't jump out at you paper necessarily. But here's my question. The Steelers done enough after last year's disappointment and despoiling for Pittsburgh is relative because nine six one. I'd love to see a nine six and one for my team. But with the Steelers when you miss the playoffs, it's bad. And they were quiet and free agency as usual, they trade. Their best player is I asked is still an AFC powerhouse. And if that's a fair question. It's the first time you could ask that in quite a long time. I don't think they're a team that you put it in ink. They're gonna make the playoffs. Whereas I think in the last six that team. I think I put them in pencil. So it can be a raced. But a guy like Dante Johnson. I I read that the Steelers had a first round great on him. And I'm sorry. I trust. The Steelers wide receiver evaluations over any draft. Nick anyone else in the football community. The the loss of Shay's ear was something that they never were able to recover from. And during this entire run of dominance. It's been this offense carrying things and his bad at the relationships were on that side of the ball. They still produced and it was still the defense. That was chiefly Blake Bortles goes in there and they score forty five points levian been. Antonio did everything they they couldn't overcome Blake Bortles lead off. And so my question is is Bush enough to get you there and they've gone so long Dan brought up without picking highly in the draft. If that's if that's enough the defense is better. But is that enough to overcome the fact that they lose a guy potentially go into the hall of fame? If you didn't make too many writers mad..

"We've been talking about. It's just Zack Taylor if he's willing to work with those can also tell you what type of guts it takes to bring in a young quarterback almost giving your your franchise quarterback. The message of it hasn't been good enough yet. So we're bringing in some competition when you're also trying to develop a relationship of a first year head of a first year head coach and the quarterback and be on the same page. Love ya Koumba ya but up. Bring somebody in 'cause I gotta play this other card and make sure there's competition at every single position. Even your. It'd be managed eight hope just depending on how the season goes you always have that guy. That's on the bench that can create hope for the community for the community for the fan base. Or what have you that's back there? Just in case. It doesn't go the way you may want it to go off top. The banks and Dwayne Haskins where the pick I'm gonna guess it. That'd be rather. Pop. Short draw. Valentine have only two inside linebackers going in the first round of their latest mock drafts. And they've got him on the same teams have the taking LSU's Devon white with the number five and the Bengals drafting Devon Bush out of Michigan at number eleven. I have to say before we start that personal standpoint. I couldn't be a bigger fan of Whitey kid a great guy, and he's handled this process. So well, I will turn it over you. Teddy to talk about his skill set about his personal aspect. Watch him on film and seeing him play linebacker position is just exciting to me. You talk about new ways linebackers, and what they want from you. This is I want to say prototype in terms of quotation, Mike because you watch everything go into the defensive left right there. The offense of right? He's able to slip slip a blocker still got the speed to redirect and rundown. Wildcat running back slash quarterback off the edge. They sent to merit LSU. Nice up and under with the rip move getting after the quarterback such a good Blitzer in terms of putting pressure on the quarterback, the guy ran a four fourth the combine, and we can see you can see all of that. But also the effort, I mean, you get blocked. Okay. You run into a couple of blockers. But you keep going the motor that he has fun to watch wanna see four four. This is four four right here quarterback. It's contained. It's what he does is what you need in today's NFL to cover space to be that type of linebacker that can play three downs. Back tracker. That's my backer. I saw it. Jim agree. I agree. Totally with teddy. In one thing. I'd say to piggyback onto that. He's a great Blitzer. We talked about roquan Smith last year to Chicago six overall pick. Great blitzer. I see the same kind of neck in Devon white. I mean, this guy's got a knack for timing it, and like you said you see the four four four four when he shooting that gap. And we you know, the leagues all about putting pressure on the quarterback. Sometimes you can't do it with your front four. Sometimes it takes the linebackers to get involved in this kid's got an act for it. He's going to he's going to be really disruptive in that role. I'm with teddy this guy in Devon Bush, the two linebackers Michigan and LSU cleanest, two of the cleaners players in this draft. Jim how does it rank Devon white Devon Bush roquan Smith? How do they compare in terms of ranking coming out there right there? I mean, they were. Yeah. Because they were all clean. They all have traits. They all have tools. They all tested. Well, they have great production on tape, and they're all high makeup guys. So to me a lot of teams don't like taking inside linebackers that high but for. These guys they belong in that top ten conversation as I mentioned Ellen..

"Yourself zero chances for error. So if you need three starters out of every draft you need your first round second round third round pick you need to get to from there. And then hope you find one in the rest of the draft in. If you start giving up those pigs to move up. You know, really handicaps like you said is that fair for Zack Taylor? He probably doesn't wanna give up any of his picks. I think if Dwayne Haskins or Cairo Murray's their eleven. I think he's gonna wanna take a quarterback in. He can get any don's quarter. All he wants. He's gonna want his guy. He's gonna wanna guy with some upside in guy hitches wagon to end. The only way that the Bengals are ever going to guarantee their chance at the top quarterback is to be sitting at number one. You think they're gonna pay to get from two to one even in like the year. Trevor Lawrence comes out. Nobody's trading that everyone's all trade up get him. How are you gonna trade him? The team has there is going to take him either that or you gotta do Ricky Williams deal. Right. I mean, the the Ditka offer. But even that so so go through the NFL and think what what teams would not draft Trevor warrants. There's like three. Because even the even the colts. It's like why would we just take? He's worth is much us just to be owned. And then we'll trade him for a boatload of picks Orval trade, Andrew. Great. Yeah. So so I mean, that's the thing is, you know, it's it's hard like you said when they're treading water. It's like what are we doing? Here. Are we trying to make the playoffs or we trying to win the Bardi trophy? Tell me because if it's if it's about making the playoffs winning a playoff game. You know, I'm not here for that. I'm here. I wanna see them poised to Lombardy before they put dirt over my casket. Ever that is thing right is like I don't wanna see a playoff win. Cool. You have to win a playoff game to win the Super Bowl. I did that. But as much as a playoff win will be exciting. After it's over. I'm gonna wasn't win another game. It's like. We've been down that road. How many free agents have they signed that make this team better from what a six win team was last year. Right. Three straight losing seasons. Some interesting comments in the live YouTube Chad, Chris Francis says this draft is stacked at the defensive front seven. That's what they should load up on. Peter Neva says at eleven the Bengals pick for value in less. It really really doesn't make sense. I think of offense attack will still in the mix timber maniacs. "I did get an interesting texts earlier earlier today, John all it's it's pretty cool off off the sheriff yet with the little bit. But so that's what's on tap for this week's. Episode. We we appreciate the support as we mentioned Lascaux we've had a number of high downloads in everything we've had kind of an exciting start to the year. Both with you know from a fan perspective. It's been an exciting start to the year because of the coaching changes in all of that. And then, you know, we've had some interviews with Tyler Boyd, and you know, a lot of different stuff going on. So it's been it's been a pretty exciting year for the show. And hopefully, you all have founded pretty exciting as well. John. Let's kick it off though. Speaking of kind of the new coaching staff and everything for the Cincinnati Bengals the team Zack Taylor seemed to be. Finalizing their their staff and the one defensive the one position that stands out in has been just hard to fill for the team for some reason is defensive coordinator. And it's an important one. Based on what happened last year? It was a complete disaster last year. Todd Grantham who is the university of Florida's current defensive coordinator seems to be the favorites land the job there might there. The team as we sit here on Wednesday evening team might be negotiations with him to to finalize a deal your thoughts on him. And I I know you also throughout an interesting tweet on Wednesday talking about a little bit something that maybe to be concerned about with the Bengals urchin defensive coordinator s they've now flirted with Jack del Rio Dennis Allen, even the old man, Don Capers and from what we have been told the past couple weeks since the fall out of those guys del Rio in Taylor talked with. Offer is ever brought out because some differences of coaching floss phen-, whatever Dennis Allen decided not to leave New Orleans because he felt that that was the place where he thought they when he when the Super Bowl and Don Capers never really received an offering kind of back everything. So now it comes to Todd Grantham who has received the first official or unofficial contract offered by the Bengals to be defensive coordinator. And on the service. I think it'd be good higher. I seen a lot of mis mixed reactions on Twitter in on cincy jungled comments section respectively. I think a lot of it's with uncertainty, but you're with Grantham you got twenty nine years of of just coaching experience in general. He was often slime in Virginia Tech is third year this whole profile so basically nose on his background cheating. Yeah. Yeah. My notes with me for this. He played under Frank beamer in his first years evidence beamer hired him as I coaching job. He coached defensive line in linebackers for Virginia Tech for about six years. He then moved on. So we from the from the retrea to another interesting coaching tree Michigan state the nineties in the guy Nick Sabin. He was Nick statements offensive line..

"Everyone has going to Anthony Kazan's. And this is the orange and black insider Bengals podcast. We are. So happy to have you with us once again. And I guess officially we are onto I guess twenty nineteen. I mean, even though we've it's now February twenty nineteen. You know, Super Bowls behind it is now the twenty nineteen NFL season in we have lots of talk about including the hiring of Zack Taylor. And with me as always. John Sharon who gave me a great assist on this into young dot com website because I was having some issues with that. But John, how are you? New era of Bengals football has been uttered in. Yeah. You always carry the bag on here in in hiding the fact so my way at some. It's been an interesting twenty four hours, I'm wearing my banana hat because the Bengals seem to slip on banana in this past efternoon in the hours after Zack Taylor press conference. We'll get into what kinda mean by that. But it's it's mixed emotions. I guess because it's something brand new to us. It's something completely new to me. Because again, this is the first time I've been Bengals fan. Marvelous hasn't been the coach and it. Oh, that's that's just the big deal in in itself. And Taylor has a lot to prove now that these officials here in some of the early judge are getting made on, you know, the initial this isn't he is he will make a coach in balls billion tear the coaching staff in talk about a little bit about that. But it's it's it's a mixed feelings for me personally right now. And I guess that's good in bed. You know in kind of both ways a different era of Bengals football for sure. And. I mean, I guess we could just jump kinda right into it. Your thoughts on on Taylor when he was introduced as the Bengals head coach on Monday. Your thoughts on. How he presented himself? Obviously a stark contrast and a lot of different ways to Marvin Lewis, especially Marvin Lewis in loses later years. Your thoughts on how he presented himself? How he handled the media aside from I think you and I both got a funny tweet from a fellow listener that showed. Hit the airing the TV airing of it cutting. Of Taylor's press conference, but aside from that your thoughts on him how he presented himself, and you know candidate that young fresh approach may be that he brings to the Bengals. Yes. So when we were talking know last month about potential replacements for Lewis Taylor's name was obviously one of the name seals like he was the first guy that the interviewed. But most of the session was was surrounding the enemy, maybe even more so Todd machen, and you know in the the week leading up to Taylor getting hired. You know, he wasn't I guess a serious consideration. I guess because people mainly like preferred. But when talking about Taylor we discussed like the Bengals would not be interested in Taylor. Just because he is in the socio of Zach of John fakes use me things will be interested in Taylor because they think that he brings a similar mentality. Similar fresh mindset in values in cultural changes that McVeigh type co. Which would bring because McVay special because you know, there's no one really like him in the way that his mind is built around the game in his memory everything about this actual. So if Taylor was to be hired by the Bengals in the few severe, so heavily coveted by he would he would have had to have wild them in a similar way that McVeigh, obviously. While the Rams I think we kinda saw some of that on display in the introductory press conference in obviously that press conference in the south as breath of fresh air, not just because of anything specific he said, but just in the way of how it was so different than all this other marvelous prostate inferences, but I do believe that, you know, Marvin's first press conferences in general were kinda like that where he can brought this reinvigorated energy to snow stale time, but now this story station stale from from all years of him so tailored kinda brings that recent change..

"It was terrible. But I gave it my best shot fifty years ago tonight. Welcome back to the show a lot to get through between now and three o'clock this afternoon. This week the Bengals made it official. They hired sack Taylor as their next head coach and he came in. And he said all the right things. He said they were that he was going to call plays. He said that they were going to do a lot of the things they did if not everything they did out in Los Angeles at least on offense. He said that he liked Andy Dalton Dalton could do the same things Jared Goff. Daddy, like, the personnel. That was here understands that they've got to be obese said all the right things. The one thing he did say I thought that caught my eye was that he wanted. He wanted character. On this team. He wanted. He wanted this that the the whatever that they did here to be done the right way culturally bringing the right people in. And as we all know, that's a very difficult thing to do what you're assembling anything an office that makes widgets ourselves insurance or a football team. Because you'd think you hire people that have great moral character people that have solid fiber people that are just culturally. Good people. And sometimes you make a mistake. Sometimes everybody you hire. Is it that way? I mean, you know, where you work there are people there probably that you look at it and say man, that's just not a good person. Or? Geez. How did that person? Get hired. It happens. Two days later Zack Taylor hired Jim Turner as offense of line coach to say that Jim Turner has had a checkered past. Well, I think it would be fair. He was the offensive line coach at Miami Dolphins when the dolphins. Were found to be in an investigation by the NFL guilty of bullying. Particular lineman by the name of Jonathan Martin. And that at the other end of it the bully was Richie incognito. Who's a known bully in the NFL? He you know, that that was a lot of his his game when he played, but not only was Jim Turner aware that this bullying was going on and it was over whether or not the NFL lineman. Jonathan Martin was gay. He said not only was Jim Turner aware of the running joke that Jonathan Martin was was accused of being gay on at least one occasion he participated Turner participated in the taunting. And Zach Kanter was on that same dolphin stap with Turner. When all of this was going on later Turner came to the university of Cincinnati along with Zack Taylor. Lasted a couple of weeks before he jumped ship here and went out to work at Texas. Am and he was at Texas am for a number of years survived a coaching change out there. But while he was at Texas am he was suspended for two weeks. This is back in two thousand sixteen. Kevin Sutherland was the coach the head coach. He was suspended for the way he conducted a seminar. What a one class for female fans, female football fans, and apparently. This this this new line coach here at the univer- at for the Cincinnati Bengals created a slide show that was degrading and offensive toward females and he was suspended for a couple of weeks because of this so high profile missteps by this guy that Zack Taylor hired this week to be as offensive line coach. Now Taylor is defending him defending him as a man defending him as as a coach certainly wouldn't hire them if the coach coaching wasn't any good but defending him and saying that he made some mistakes. And we all make mistakes in life. And when we have high profile jobs, the mistakes, become more magnified. It's just the way it is. I wondered when I heard all of this how much that would matter to Bengal fans, and you may want to ask yourself this question too. Does it really matter? If you're a fan of a team does it really matter. What a player or in this case a coach does. If it if it doesn't have an adverse effect on right now. In other words, if Jim Turner comes in here. And he takes over an offensive line that frankly, I don't know how anybody could a coached at last year. Frank pollack. From all indications was great coach. There were just some bad players on that offensive line. I wonder if this guy comes in that line becomes dominant this season and sets the tone and helps the Bengals went a lot of games does winning Trump. Everything we've seen it with players. This team is welcome players with open arms now, frankly were bad apples. But if it helped them win games to you is it that big a deal Jim Turner's pass, whatever he he might have done while with the dolphins. Or with Texas. Am does it matter to you. Because of the world of sports is performance or results. The only thing we're judged by the answer to that question is I think it is. I think to most fans and again, maybe not you. But to most fans what they wanna see our wins. The old line was it's great to have a bunch of boy scouts. But how how about a couple of thugs that'll help us win some games. And this town is starved for football wins. It just is the university of Cincinnati is phenomenal had a great season this year, but professionally. Professional football star for wins. The last time the Bengals made the playoffs was what twenty fourteen twenty fifteen. That's an eternity in the NFL. This team has never won a playoff game since nineteen ninety. This team has never won a Super Bowl and better the Super Bowl since one thousand nine hundred nine. Well, Jim Turner comes in here. And he's part of an effort that gets the Bengals not just back to the playoffs. But wins a couple of playoff games in Deir. We think gets to and wins the SuperBowl. Does that Trump anything? That's in his background. I tend to think it is. I think that's just the way it is in sports today. I said in the last half hour when talking about the world of politics day in politics is a lifetime. Two days is an eternity on sports. It's kind of the same way at our memories fade. And we really don't worry about the things that someone might have done or didn't do or someone that might have been something someplace else he's here. He's now can you help us win. And that's why I think that. And this all blew up on social media. And you gotta be very careful because on things like Twitter, especially you'll have a group that just hates something. And so they just pounce on with their hate that topic whenever comes up. There are people that hate the Bengals. So they will pounce on the Bengals because they hate the Bengals by and large hail a lot of things. But the Bengals then you have the group that hasn't seen the Bengals to anything appreciably of any note over the last three seasons, and they'll pound on this because well, I mean, what new coach new culture now, we're going back to this. So you've got to be careful when you take all of your feedback and your opinion from social media. But it just seems to me that there's there's a lot being made of this guy. And what he might or might not have done before he got here because in the world of sports. It's what can you do for me? And at this guy can do for the Bengals what they need. I think a lot of this stuff is kind of like a story that exists for one day. And then any turn it. He that happens after that is that. Okay. Are you? Okay. With that. Am I right that the only thing that really matters when you get to professional sports is winning. Everybody got excited in this town back in December when the reds made that trade with the dodgers. Wow. Finally. Well, okay. Can the reds win the first time that yes? Wheel doesn't run out a ground ball or a Sobat which he's done in the past? Are you? Okay. With that. Matt kemp. Matt Kemp is played on a lot of teams. There's good and bad out. There about him Vert some good things heard some bad things. But if he wins here if he wins here is that all it matters. So what I saw this about Jim Turner. I saw the blowback the Taylor was getting because of his we're going to change the culture do with the right people in two days later. He hires. His buddy Turner. I I said to myself. Okay. There's gonna be some blowback on that. But if the Bengals win seems to me in the world of fans. Going to matter all that much seven four nine seven thousand one eight hundred the big one does it matter to you. Well, over the phone lines next on seven hundred wwl w..

"Eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six. I have a feeling we know where this this particular poll is going to go, but molasses get anyway have the patriots ruined watching the Super Bowl for you. That's WFAN WFAN. And actually, I just voted. Yes. And it's closer than I thought it would be as we just open it up data ruined it for me. Because the last two Super Bowls were release entertaining. But I do have fatigue. It feels like groundhog day. I just want to see some new fresh blood in there. And I can appreciate the way they went about winning it. You know, what is old is new was new, oh, the fact that they decided that they knew that they couldn't beat a high powered team by dropping back fifty times. And throwing the ball. You look at the Atlanta Atlanta Super Bowl that the patriots were in, you know, we're just back and forth last year five hundred yards offense. They couldn't do date and have the weaponry to be able to do that this this this the Super Bowl, and the fact that they went old school running the ball. And we're committed to it because they knew that they had golf all Dan. And once they once they got what they got ahead. You talk about the big pass that golf missed onto cooks because he didn't ready missed a couple guys that were wide open. He thought he thought it was he thought it was quiet which is four deep, but it turned down to be a different coverage. And he he he was skittish. He wasn't. He wasn't committed. You gotta understand that in this game in that game. You got to be able to take some hits in the mouth and bloody yourself for the good any team. He he showed that he will soft to. We haven't talked about Todd Gurley and are and I were doing Instagram live after the show. You guys were doing it together at halftime. Bart. And I did it after the after the Super Bowl yesterday where on Instagram live WFAN. We do it when news breaks and after big games and stuff like that. And so I was asking bar, and you kind of mentioned offhand Bart. You're like, well, we'll probably get his knee scoped. And obviously the knee was an issue. It was obviously he was an issue. But he wasn't on the injury. Report. And they kept denying that it was afterward. And they did actually try to get them in there in the fourth quarter. I feel like they just like couldn't see he couldn't see straight. I feel like he has been conservative since the playoffs began the NFC championship game kicking the field goal on fourth and inches was out of character. Even though they won that game. I feel like he got away from everything. And you know, what a girl is not healthy. Then just are feeding C J Anderson. It just seemed like they were so discombobulated they just offensively could not see straight once you gave all the secrets away. He gave them all away. He didn't have any other thing to go to. And this is where I feel like he may be missed a quarterbacks coach or a top assistant. That had Zack Taylor who is the quarterbacks coach is about to become the new head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals. I'm not impressed by that resume. I'm saying I'm saying somebody that you can lean till you look at last year. When know Doug Peterson was there. He can look to de Filippo. He can look to Frank right? You had guys that had experienced a lot of experience in different situations. Also experience as players as well. And what his plan a wasn't working. He had nobody that can tell him. Hey, we need to do this and adjust because we kept saying that you know, the patriots win a sink front. We saw Patrick Chung analyze screaming. Just because they had they had the formation so condensed that now you can you can do all kinds of stuff because no threat for nobody to go vertical. Looks at eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six. Let's go to Owen. I is the New Jersey Heo and how you doing? Money. What's up? Hey, that'd be. It'll say that here could I? MVP that last one running. Second round draft pick. What do you think about? But you know, as crazy as far as Nick foles, our shoes, I is they're they're gonna they're gonna pick up his option at twenty million dollars in hopes to trade him franchise for for me that just makes them look seem less attractive to me if I'm a bitter. I'm saying, well, I'm not about to give up all this equity for him. So I'm just going to go move over to the to the teddy Bridgewater tree and move over to the other quarterbacks potentially. Now. Joe flacco moves up in other people's eyes because he calls you is money dot compensation and money. Yeah. Well, I guess the the eagles have to make a choice whether they're going to franchise tag them or not. They just our goes is they picked up his option. Now, here's the chance within the next day or two to bail on his option. It was a mutual one. But then they can franchiser trade on the franchise. Absolutely. So. That's been a good soldier for you guys. Let me go where I wanna go like stop eating off of me. I one you a Super Bowl you put a statue. While Cy let me walk away clean. So I can pick the best situation for me. If we gotta if you got sign me, and they're trying to train me. That's BS Jeff in north haven. Jeff what's going on? But hey, guys. Nice to talk to you fifty two year old Jeff Van or thanks for what you did. And what you said is a jet, and I like to say that Joe Willie was there. But one reason. This is the last one you're ever going to get to. Yeah. I'm sure that's one that they would believe and. Not feel good about that. Actually, the jets. I feel bad. The jets actually got cloudy a couple of times of the broadcast yesterday when Tony Romo started bringing up the ballot. Check getting traded. And how that was like the greatest trade that the patriots ever had. And I know in the post game show on ESPN. They brought it up to Robert Kraft. I believe also I mean, he here the whatever small appearances the jets made in the Super Bowl last night. We're not good ones. Hey, Tony Romo you to reason that Joe team and go-to suppo you can't put down a field goal. So you shut the hell up. About Rockland, Steve what's up? Hey, guys, you know, I I wanna talk about the officiating especially with the shadow of legalized gambling is casting over the son of these things. So I I call and I want you to call wasn't even necessary roughness on a pass. We're the ball, and they receiver and the defender arrived at the same time. Well, you know, we all know what that was all about that was about you embarrasses in front of the league and the saints fans mad at as it's all of a sudden, you we won't we want. We want to say that. Running back is defenseless against one hundred eighty pound Nickelback like please how about this. How about that? What if that's true? Bart. That's like, that's that's deplorable. I mean, how do the rest of any integrity if they wanna get get back? Call on a guy for no fault of his own. And because he. And said, I did it. I did follow the guy. I mean, if that's actually true. And that was some kind of weird makeup call the rep should be fired, by the way, they got the number wrong. Anyway. They had. They headed. Yeah. How about this started it? Okay. So that was an I three minutes of the game. Now that send a message to the defense. Okay. That you can't how it's sending a message that you can't be physical with at least. That's what that's the way. I read about this instead of being a fourth down. And you're punting from the twelve yard line. Okay. Now, you have a first down that led to the missed field goal. Okay. But this was this was all all the people who've been on a ranch must've been losing their minds. Okay. So where was the ball around a patriots forty five and you're punting its fourth down. And they said, oh, yes. The patriots will aside and it would have been a penalty on your. But it was it was delay of Dame. How about until they were a lot of people and people were saying, hey, let's see the replay where your show play clock. And you see. Dot off before the play. Well, that was that was the ensuing. Drive by the Rams. I wanted to see that. I wanted to see the play clock go down. But if you're insinuating that had to do with gambling because he said at the beginning of the shadow the gambling is called caused across it. I don't either. But CBS's thinking about that effort to retell the everyone was thinking that with the Nicole Roby Coleman with has interference and that's bad enough. And then the fact that you know, he did miss the field goal Gutowski. Did miss the field goal at the end of the drive. So you feel like no harm no foul. But you know, I'll be honest. I disagree that the Rams then tried to take it easy or we're not playing physical because he saw Aaron Donald throw Tom Brady to the ground like a rag doll. And if I were him and did not get the flag. I would have tried to do that a lot more, absolutely. I think the Rams understood exactly what it was like we weren't supposed to be here. This was the controversial call. We'll take this L because we still got to come to the game such a low scoring game that could have been data understanding also flipped the with right because then you get a couple more plays. You get more room to punt. I've never heard of a guy being defenseless on the screenplay. Say inside the box later on he's running around. I'll say this when they couldn't move the ball and later on in that game. I want to say it was early fourth quarter and third and nine golf business by ten yards. They called defensive holding. I thought for sure that that, you know, the Rams couldn't even do anything with that gift that they got right there. Visit I've been telling you guys all year that Jared Goff. Wasn't a good quarterback. I've been telling you guys that I think girly being healthy covered up a lot of things with golf right now. They have a major decision to make. And you look at what's going for. When you look at this team going forward know soon next year to leap. No Peter's they pay an errand down a like a quarterback. So like, you can't say they're not paying a franchise quarterback Whitworth. He sounded like he wanted to know like. The greatest quarter. We keep an eye on him. Well, usually when someone loses and they try to put things in perspective. They say, listen if they're uncouth about it. They usually say, listen, I have an awesome life. I'm gonna wake up tomorrow millionaire, and you guys are all going to wake up you. Right. We've heard that one before it doesn't usually sit. Well, but usually the spin on it is, hey, the sun comes up tomorrow. Right. This is just a game. Yes, we're disappointed. The sun come up tomorrow will worth put a different spin on the quote by saying we're all gonna die someday. Because he. Oh, interesting perspective. Well, an athlete dies twice. And he's close to death as far as as an athlete because this is only the second time he's ever even been in the playoffs. He understands that. It's no more Santa his hourglass. He's what thirty five years old. You know, he understands the situation, you know, he understands it. How hard is going to be for them to get back. They got no money. I just thought it was interesting. The next time something happens. You don't have to be like, listen, don't worry about it. Yeah. We'll get him. The next time. Don't worry about it. We're all gonna die. Oh, yeah. That's that's how I was filling in April when we are slot. We all just have an idea for a new t shirts. What's up? Kevin. Hey, yes. AC dating. Call take the third quarter and golf third-down right before. Yard punt. And he was in the pocket. The wine is commercial five and a half. Yeah. But it was a play. I know what you're saying. Because the ball has at least make it back to the line of scrimmage, but sometimes but sometimes when you see like when is a screen play somebody's in end zone. They thought at the feet of their of their running back is it was close enough to the guy on the sideline who is trying to get. I was all over that. I think you're saying you're saying ghost all about it was called. Following the game on Twitter last night. I couldn't tell it seemed like on both sides a lot of people are saying, hey, my prop bets came through and others were like, I got none of my prop bets Jimmy train good friend. He was talking about. Oh, they just showed Giselle for a second time. Boom, the overt over in a bunch of other things that made me feel like everyone's profits were heading and then that was watching some other people's feed. And this seemed like none of them came through..

"And since he jungled dot com for the second time over the past month, we are privileged to be talking with Bengals wide receiver. Tyler Boyd who is doing a lot of different stuff this Super Bowl week Tyler. How are you, sir? Yeah. Thanks for joining us, again, really stoked to have and catch up with you. Last time we talked obviously the Bengals were in a bit of flux in terms of coaching and whatnot. We'll talk about that in just a second. But how's how are the festivities? You're are you in Atlanta right now? How are the festivities treat you down there? I think all great, you know, just here. The Booker T is cool. You know? It's a little bit different jobs with and just showing them different way, you know, just just trying to develop different sector skills. But it's the kids, you know, and just make actually funding just just teach them how to have a hard word. It's awesome Tyler's. Joining us courtesy of Panini. We'll talk about what he's doing with them in just a minute. Tyler. I wanted to ask you. I mean, obviously, the the Bengals haven't quite made a decision yet or an official decision yet and official announcement on their head coaching job. But I think signs are pointing to Zack Taylor of the Rams. He's obviously coaching in the Super Bowl this weekend. What would that mean to you and to the Bengals locker room for the team to be bringing in a guy coaching in a Super Bowl right now and potentially coming in and coaching the Bengals right after that? Oh, well, just just to see the production. That around has, you know, does type offers fair like the rest of the guys the love, you know, we love a combinator just like office found that would love and this after like a younger guy coming in. You know, I think we'll just bring a lot more juice, you know, because Kathy can relate a lot more with the players dot van age plays any factor of anything with the team, you know. But I think it would you know, I think that's used that we kinda need for the team to get point. Speaking of the Rams offense. I'm sure you've you've seen quite a bit of it. Either highlights or or what have you been last year? The Rams offense had to twelve hundred yard receivers the Bengals offense. Even without the coaching change yourself out of thousand yard season, you missed a couple of games towards the end of the year aged green got hurt. He was on pace for one of his best years of his career. You've gotta be excited as to what potentially. If Jack Taylor is higher. You gotta be excited about what he brings. And how do you see yourself maybe fitting into a system like that? You see a similar type of production year like that like you had last year. Definitely, you know, because with the around here is great over there. You know? Good and everything great. But I think a difference with coach from the coaching me AJ links. You know, we're telling them in sale and ca-catch more vote. We think be the extra edge of his king. No of be a lot more easier for. Two guys often to go off, you know, personally, ever a dominant tight in. Well, you know, so we got range, you know, every guy around is tall. He no in rages. Believable. You know? So I think we got that extra element over the Rams of Sheva core. You know? Yeah. They have weapons everywhere. Talking to Tyler boy bankers wide receiver coming off his first career one thousand yard season with the team joining us courtesy of paninis down in Atlanta for all the Super Bowl festivities. What's the one facet of your game? Tyler. I mean, you obviously made great strides. We talked about this a month ago kind of stuff you've been doing. But what's what's kind of the one facet? You're concentrating on this off season to really you can take your game up even another level potentially, regardless of who the new coaches. Like a development hole on your own game. You know, but just firm on that, you know, just get more explosive quick twitch and just speed, you know, things like facets explosive more supposedly has developed around craving believe that that would take my game to another level because over in great routes moved and on my breaks. I have great hands. You know, just get that that that extra explosion. Emmy, I think it'd be lights out for change..

"We will join the AFC division game between the patriots and the chargers. And then following that. We'll get the NFC. Division game between the Philadelphia Eagles who travel to New Orleans to face the New Orleans Saints. And then the racing report was saying the Sunday supplement and Willie from nine to midnight tomorrow night. So that's your Sunday rundown. Yeah. Let's talk a little NFL little colts with Ricky in Indiana. Ricky what's going on? Fantastic. Brother. What'd you think? Are you? Well, yeah, we're waiting on the Los Angeles Rams season to end because it looks like Zack Taylor the quarterbacks coach is going to become the next head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals. So more power to the Rams and does act Taylor. Get a new coach in here. And let's get this program. Back on track. Because I don't believe it's one of the worst jobs that were opened in the National Football League. You've got a patient owner you've got out several outstanding players you just gotta keep adding to that Ed to the offensive line. And you know, Rick I can live with Devon white because I mean every mock draft see has LSU linebacker Devon white six one to forty. He's an absolute stud going to the Bengals at number eleven my feeling is. And I like the Bengals quarterback. Andy Dalton the red rifle. I think he can get you to the playoffs. I don't thinking he can win you a Super Bowl and a guy. Can I believe is Dwayne Haskins some day, and I like the Bengals to draft a quarterback into Wayne Haskins. He probably won't last two eleven. So you might have to go up trade up and get him. Okay. He's probably gonna go to the New York Jets or giants at six. Okay. And what what I'm afraid of is it the Pittsburgh Steelers knowing that Ben Rothlisberger is on the eighteenth tee of his career what one year max to me probably next year. Really should be it for Ben. They could definitely trade Antonio Brown because he is absolutely fallen out of favor with that franchise. Get a first round pick for him and use those picks to move up and take twain Haskins and. A whole bunch of Buckeye fans will become Steeler fans. No doubt. If that happens. So Ricky, and I know you're looking forward to baseball season, brother. So am I we're gonna talk who's going to be the reds center fielder? You got any predictions for me? Right now. Right. Well, I'm gonna put my chips to the middle of the table. And I'm gonna take Philip Ervin. Let's give him a chance and brother, we will talk soon. Appreciate the call from Valparaiso, Indiana, man. You are the man. Thanks so much Rik in Valparaiso Brandon's in Indianapolis, Brandon. What is going on paychecks for a little bit disappointed with I'm disappointed with the I like the Bengals stupid. I'm a colts fan. And what? Yeah. That was disappointing. They just couldn't generate anything and this this could be at for Adam venit, Terry. It is. I think it is what he's had a great career. You know? But I I don't know if it's the weather had an impact, you know. But I think Kansas City now takes I mean, I don't know if they can beat nor I could be wrong. You don't want everyone account New England out. But I thought we had a chance trickster, and I think a lot of people giving the colts a chance because. Defense is effective. But today, I think they just showed what they are about. You know, I think whoever has to go there. It's going to be hard for if it is New England or the chargers, but you never wanna Brady out. But I don't know. I think this year the chiefs get that stick it to them just kind of a morbid sense of if the New England wins tomorrow to have them get run out of the gym at Arrowhead. I would love it. Sorry. New England Patriots fans, but van I am tired of them in the in the AFC title game. I I am to see it as far as as far as the Bengals go. I I hope I hope they get the right coach. You know? I, you know, I mean, you know, the the Rams seasons. Don't go one. In hope. I wish the best for Marvin. I think he was a nice guy and all time for a change. But with the quarterback situation you were talking about Dwayne Haskins if the Bengals could draft him somehow cut me, they tried the read rightful or. Kind of like an AJ McCarron type deal if he would he would tutor Dwayne Haskins for a year and then Andy move on and make bigger dollars. Elsewhere. He would be trae trading. Yeah. He could he's like Alex Smith he could make a bunch of money elsewhere. But but the, but but groom Dwayne Haskins free year Dwayne takes over and twenty twenty. Andy Dalton moves on. I don't want to hear about what you're saying. Is you don't think doll the guy that can get you over the hump and away? Correct. Yeah. I think it probably win you a playoff game. I don't think you can get you to a Super Bowl and other that great guy. He's a good career. He's a good player. But I need an impact player taking snaps. As far as you say real quick. I know you won't get so much time as far as you see. Because were going on. 'cause I mean with not follow Butler, and because I'm from here. But. Did listen to you? See I don't think there's good as last year with oh, look who all you lost. But obviously football game tonight. But I did hear Macron's comment. He was not happy. But I think they're going to be okay. I guess against they're still NCWA. You probably know more about fourteen in three, and this is a very balanced deeper American athletic conference, and I'm loving the fact that Wichita states in there, and it's bringing back memories of the old Missouri valley when I was a kid, and that was the best conference in the land. And Brandon I gotta run man. Thanks. Yeah. Baby. I mean, I think so I really do. Yeah. They're starting to find themselves in just a huge boost to beat to beat Georgetown into comeback. Like they did. Thanks so much. I appreciate it. And I want to talk a little Cincinnati Reds when we return who is going to play center field for this club. And I wanna talk a little bit of the lineup one through eight man. Yeah. When we return

"It's been on a mall your loan, and he's never never strong as far as the moment being too big for him and he won't drink. Again. What will lose this football game for them? If they lose it because their deepens can't slow. Anybody down if you look at how the chiefs of laws. It's never been the fact that Mahomes has played well, it's affected. He hasn't had enough possessions, which the colts have the ability to do that not that necessarily will. But if they can run the ball control the clock much like the Seahawks much like the chargers are able to do that can be a game changing situation. And we're gonna pick all these games at the end of the show. So you definitely want to stay tuned for that. And see these guys are picking we get to pick two I'm gonna get four of them. Right. And meanwhile, as we look at the teams or ending all the talks about the weekend, and we also have the head coaching carousel to get. So let me get back to that six of the eight head coaching vacancies in the NFL have been filled yesterday the Broncos introducing their head coach sixty year old Vic Fangio and then in Tampa areas with trade Marquette, that's Bruce Arians, the new head coach of the buccaneers leaving only the Bengals and the dolphins as remaining coaching vacancies and so forth that let us bring in coaching vacancy central. That's Adam Schefter Chaffey back with this. After a very busy day with us yesterday. What can you tell us about the remaining? Vacancies that starting Cincinnati, greedy, the Bengals are targeting the Rams quarterback coach Zac Taylor as their next head coach and they're waiting for the ram season to end whether that's tomorrow night or after the Super Bowl before they can go ahead sit down. Pam Radikal contract was Taylor. But the Bengals wanna turn over their franchise. Zack taylor. The former offensive coordinator at the university of Cincinnati. Who has no problem going back to that city would be very happy doing that to match waiting to happen. That would leave the Miami. Dolphins is the last team to hire a head coach, and they seem to be focused on Brian floors. The patriots defensive coordinator couple of other names to keep in mind there. Chris Rashard the Cowboys passing game for Nader Dennis Allen on the New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator, their names that they're looking at his will. And again, I think what we get to this point. And these teams are filling these last Beattie's they have a clear direction as to which way they want to go. Sometimes it just takes a little bit longer. For it to get out into public. But again, the lack of diversity in these hires is striking because act Taylor would be the seventh coach hired and there'll be no minority candidates in that bunch and it'll be up to the Miami. Dolphins to come through to prevent a shutout this postseason, chef AM and ask you to sit by for one minute. We're gonna get back to you on that at a moment. But I want to take this to the table and Lewis in particular to you and your former capacity working in front offices. You have a little better understanding of the way some of these things work than the rest of us..

"Weather station. Okay. We're back here. It's five forty eight. What's up everybody? Rick Lewis, Dave Logan here. Kathy has the night off. And we're talking about the Denver Broncos. They're in the middle about the halfway point of their search for a new head coach they've already interviewed Chuck Pagano. Zack Taylor and Mike Mancha today. Tomorrow Brian Florez Bill interview him in New England and then Vic Fangio Monday in Chicago. And we're talking about some comments that were made at the press conference on Monday. And we go to nNcholas high. Nncholas you there. Sorry. You guys got spoken up there for a second your turn. So I'm a native here alongside Bronco fan. I went to college at Colorado. I played a little bit of professional sports myself. And I was just listening to talk about the miss with Paxton Lynch. And were that has this set you compare it to Patrick homes? I guess my question is Elway all this seems to be going back to that pick. And Elway seems to be taking blame for that. Most of it. I guess my question is Elway this. I mean how much of that miss? Can Elway really be responsible for knowing. What we don't doubt. That's a great question. So we're asking you about scouts, and well, yeah. To the evaluation partnering I think we can all sit here and say, we didn't know hundred percent that Patrick home. Races. I dunno. I I understand that. But let me say here, here's what I meant on that. The the the situations were similar, right? Both teams identified their quarterback of the future. Both teams spent capital spent assets to move back up into the first round respectively of that particular draft and draft a guy that they thought was going to be their their franchise quarterback for the next ten to twelve years and the chiefs hit with Patrick Mahomes for sure. And it's pretty clear the Broncos didn't. And I don't think that's the only miss. But I think that is the single biggest miss and the single biggest reason why the Broncos have sort of experienced what they've experienced the last couple of years, right? And I I agree with you about that. I guess my question a little bit further. That is how much Elway shoulder of that knowing what we know now. So here's what I here's what I would say to that. It just keeps going back to Elway's horrible because of this one. I I I've never I've never said Elway was horrible. But I think if you're, but if you're the, but if you're the GM of the team, I would say this, John we're sitting here if you're the GM of the team win. You have draft class like they had this year. Everybody says well, they hit on the draft. John is the ultimate decision maker with respect to football. I mean, ultimately, he's got people that he listens to Matt Russell he's got he's got scouts AJ Durso. He's got a bunch of people that he listens to. But ultimately when they sit in that room and decide who's going to get drafted that's him. The polls the trigger. So when you ask the question how much is on John with respect to Paxton Lynch with with respect, I say all of it all of it. If that's his pick just like these picks and eighteen are his picks, and he should be saluted as well as his people for the picks that they had this year. But if you're going to be saluted for the picks that you had that are great. You gotta work you gotta wear the hat when you when you miss and they missed on Paxton Lynch. Thanks, nNcholas Davis. I remember nNcholas. Thanks, but traded up to pick Paxton Lynch, the draft experts thought it was great. It was a great a great pick. Nobody argued that everybody. And so absolutely when I don't think any draft experts went oh, major gaffe by John Elway. And the Broncos trade enough for him. Everybody said that's a great move. See I think this is also Rick one of the things that is worth mentioning. I think you know, when you talk about the chiefs. Think for people that follow football for a long time. Think of Andy Reid when he was in Philadelphia and think of the offense and Andy Reid ran with Donovan McNabb mean Andy Reid is a west coast disciple. I mean, three step drop. Throw the backs spread you out horizontally as well as taking some vertical shots. I mean, that's who Andy Reid has always been. But Andy Reid has changed. And he started to change with Alex Smith. And then he has I will say completely abandoned those west coast principles, but he's changed with respect to how the chiefs go bad at now in part of the success of Patrick Mahomes was Andy Reed's ability to modify what he had done his entire career to work better for a guy. I like Alex Smith and now obviously Patrick Mahomes. I don't know that the Broncos did that now maybe maybe maybe packs list just wasn't good enough to do that. Even had they been able to do that. But I don't know how much they modified from an offense of perspective how they view the NFL in the world. And maybe you know, I talked with John about that during the one on one ahead with the at their press conference. I mean, he believes you went from the pockets. So do I but also believe the game has changed? Now you have to change with the game. And so they don't have that guy right now in case keenum, but moving forward they have to identify that guy. And then they got to bring somebody in. Here that can change really to best suit that particular quarterback. We'll get a break here for some news, traffic and weather on the other side are our broadcast partner brenick crystals. Got a problem. We're trying to work with them this supersedes the von Miller mothers. This is a huge problem. He's being forced to he's going to have to spend. A couple of days sharing a hotel room with his boss hotel. It's more than room. Rick wants a Queen size bed at the senior bowl. And we're trying to work through that with him..

"Your ex players who have either gone to play pro ball or for some other reason like transferred didn't finish their degree and they can come back and finish their degree while they're coaching on the team. And so getting to come and do that last year, obviously, I actually came in January last year. So I I came partway through the year. I wasn't even there in the beginning of the season. And joining a team like that with a bunch of high profile players who are really really good, you know, better than I ever was as a player was challenging. And I tried to stay at everyone's way at first and just offer what I had and just make sure available to throw batting practice. I do a lot of work with Zack Taylor for space in a couple of other first baseman since I was my position just got some footwork done and was with the infielders for last year in the hitters every day. And you know, having been through that experience kind of gives you a little bit instant credibility with the team. Just not only having won the championship. But the fact that I performed well. Omaha. Just kind of kind of makes the kids listen to you little bit more in and they wanna hear the secrets you have. Then the tricks that you learned that you can help them with. So I just I tried to be really good energy this year as a coach and just help these guys to be a really good head space while they're playing explain to them that you need a little bit of magic to win a college World Series. You know, and and we need to find a way to tap into tap into that magic. And so I was just basically like the intangible guy like hanging out bubble gum and doing weird rituals in the dugout and just, you know, throwing a lot of left handed batting practice, which is a valuable asset for team coaches left. You can throw a lot of EP just do whatever I can this year. I'm working with outfielders a lot of left field for a full season at UC Santa Barbara. So have a little bit of experience there and work without dealers in the hitter, we have a lot of new kids this year, and I get to work with all making great steps in advancement in the batting cage. Which is great to see. And I think we're gonna have a presold group guys this year. If I if I could go back and ask you about your your playing it Oregon state. But before before I was curious in two dozen six spent a year into you overlapped with with Darwin Barney and Darwin Barney at that point he was a he was a sophomore believes the second basement on team, and and darn Barney, of course, made it to the majors he had a fairly extended major league career not that much of a hitter. But like a premium defender into what do you watch a premium defender at the major league level, you can usually tell they have a sort of a look about them, but everybody at the major league level who's who's playing the middle infield is good. And I was curious because I don't watch that much based on certainly ten fifteen years ago. I didn't watch that much college baseball. And I was just curious what what does aid defender like Darwin Barney, look like at a high level, but still at the collegiate level because he was a fourth raindrop pick in the year that you played with them. He slugged 395. He clearly wasn't drafted because so what does a great defender. Look like in college. Well, he was a shortstop. And so he was our number one defender in the infielder in two thousand six and I mean, he's I mean if you're playing if you're playing shortstop for a division one program that's in Omaha. You're one of the best shorts ups in the country. So it amongst baseball players..
