California faces more wind, snow in multistate storm
"California is hit by a powerful winter storm while Michigan is trying to recover from one that left hundreds of thousands without power. Several feet of snow and several inches of rain are possible in parts of Southern California along with gusty winds while frigid temperatures are forecasted in the north as the storm moves out Saturday, says national weather service meteorologist Zack Taylor. Flooding threat, there have been reports of like mudslides and washed out roads and that kind of thing, but the worst of it is kind of winding down. In Michigan, rinker has been without power since Wednesday when the ice storm hit and I knew immediately we're not getting power back for a minute. I didn't expect it to be multiple days. This is one of the worst ice storms to hit the state in decades. It almost is a little bit like tornado destruction. At least three people died in coast to coast storms, including a firefighter by down power lines, a pedestrian hit by a snow plow and a person dying of hypothermia. I'm Julie Walker.

"Hello and welcome to the MM QB NFL podcast on Gary brayley. I'm Connor or Connor, this was a this is a weird week 5 and it's especially weird for us because we're taping on a Monday morning instead of in the just ungodly hours of Sunday Night this time. I know you and my less annoying at this hour or more annoying it does sound like would you rather me, would you rather me be the last thing that you see before you get to go to bed or the first thing that you have to see when you wake up 'cause I imagine neither is pleasant. You don't keep a framed picture of me next to your bed stand to look at as you doze off. Yeah, no, you're equally annoying right now. Which is really not annoying. I enjoy our time together. I do too. Yeah. Yeah, let's get into this thing. And we're gonna start with the Sunday Night game. That was the Bengals of the ravens, obviously, won an a Justin Tucker last minute kick. Look, I think these teams are very evenly matched. I thought the ravens were probably a tad better in this one if Lamar Jackson doesn't miss a throw or two. They might end up running away with it. And the Bengals are still working through some things. I think still trending up from a very low place for the offensive line, but really no T Higgins, except for handful of snaps in this one. And it showed. And they're, you know, their deep passing game is just essentially nonexistent at this point after being such a big part of their offense a year ago. Yeah, so we'll start with the Bengals offensive line. I thought it was interesting when they tried to go for it on fourth down in their own goal line and Zack Taylor, I've never seen a coach. I mean, Chris collinsworth had surmised that Lyle Collins was supposed to do something differently. On that play. But Zach Taylor is making sort of a theatrical gesture here in chasing him up and down the sidelines to let him know that he was supposed to do something different. And it's both an interesting, it's an interesting look, right at where you are as a coach with your offensive line at that moment that you're not just going to let the position co channel this anymore and that you're so frustrated with these errors at this point that you're literally chasing because players, I would say this, the common psychological refrain right now is like players already know that they've messed up. So you don't need to go and tell them that they've messed up. Zack Taylor was like, this was bad enough that I need to chase you 40 yards down the sideline and let you know that you messed up. And so that might just be a display of frustration in terms of, hey, this is where I'm at with my offensive line right now. It was a low moment. I mean, I get where Zack Taylor was coming from here. It's a low moment in a frustrating season in a huge game. And yeah, you know, it's week 5, no one's winning or losing the Super Bowl based on what happened in week 5 here, but man, this was, this was a big moment and to have a very basic execution error at that point was unfortunate, especially, man, they did it. The ravens snuffed out the Philly special, or the Cincinnati special, or whatever you want to say it. That was the worst outcome for a Philly special inspired play I have ever seen. So I have a couple of questions about this. First off, do you think that every team calls it the Philly special now? Probably, right? So it's in the bank like when this is how calling plays works, right? Like Zack Taylor opens up his Xbox and he searches for plays and then he just hits like the Y button and that's what Joe burrow runs. That's basically how this works, yeah, yeah. Yeah. So he looks up Philly special. But in a lot of ways, it's like, okay, what happens now, right? It's the death of the Philly special. Once it's been snuffed out that aggressively and stomped out, are you ever allowed to is a team ever allowed to run it again? Do you have to wait 5 years? What's the rule? That was it. I mean, that was the tipping point. It's got to go, it's like when the wildcats stopped working. And people still sprinkled it in. It's not exactly like that. It's not like that at all. I don't know where I'm going with this comparison. But you know, the wildcat kind of went away as anything, but like a once or twice a game type of a package that teams use as opposed to using it quite frequently back in the Ronnie Brown days in Miami. But yeah, that could be it. I mean, it didn't work as designed in the Giants win. We'll get to that in a little bit, but it still resulted in a touchdown. It was still obviously you had the desired outcome, but this was Tyler Boyd took like a 14 yard loss on that from the goal line, which is as bad as it gets. It's one of those things that goes back to, I think coaching is one of the most complex and basic at the same time professions in the world. Like where there would be stuff that we would be absolutely amazed by that like, oh my God, they take this into consideration and wow, what level of work and that's incredible. And then there's the stuff that's like, okay, this has been the only trick play that everybody's used now for the last four years. We can come up with a new trick play. There's plenty of options out there. I'm sure that the eagles got that from someone who got that from someone who stole it from Clemson who stole it from north Arlington Christian high school in Texas and you could do that again. We could all we could all find a new trick play. And that's good. I'm ready for a new trick play. Yeah, I am too. Can't wait to see what's next. Save it for the Super Bowl though. Whoever's got the next good one. Yeah, whenever you make the Super Bowl next, that's when you shouldn't roll it out to them, I'll remember it like a Philly special. But yeah, I don't know. I don't have a, I don't have a ton to dive into with either of these teams. I think they're just both good teams. I think they're on that second tier, you know, in the AFC, it's buffalo, and then as everyone else right now, maybe the chiefs are somewhere in between the everyone else and buffalo, but yeah, both those teams are right there, offensive line has to continue to trend up for the Bengals, which again, I do think it's getting better. It's just, it's still bad. And they obviously they need a healthy tea Higgins because things are just not the same with Mike Thomas as a sort of complimentary deep threat there. He had some nice yak in this game though. He did some good yank. He did have a good yak. 33 yards of yak, I believe. Yeah. So I'll put this to you. This is sort of my, this is sort of Zach Taylor's cliff Kingsbury moment, right? And but it's the reverse, right? So I remember with the combine last year clip was like, yeah. In so many words, I need to do a way better job of like when one of our rod receivers goes down like the whole offense doesn't just explode. If your Zack Taylor, that wasn't even your Deandre Hopkins, like it's tea Higgins, who's very good, but you have three of those guys. And you've hated her. Like you have talented bodies, and there are other teams that are kind of outpacing you right now with like Baltimore. Like with Devin duvernay and Isaiah likely, as Mark Andrews, you know? And I think you could tea Higgins to me is not an excuse. Ja'Marr chase, okay, I get that. That's fine. But I don't know.

"Not a winner on there. I have the saints in New Orleans favored by one over the Bengals. The saints home, New Orleans, Bengals traveling, Sunday Night. I'm going to go to Taysom Hill, renaissance. I like this. I want to say saints by two. Okay. Well, let me check this because I did this before the game and who knows what they did with this. All right, saints. This is Bengals. I had I'll tell you what I had since you buy two and a half. And it has since you buy one and a half. Okay. So I was the only one. There you go. Saints are home dog against the two and three Bengals. I just wanted to make sure I get that right. Okay. What do you mean? Cincinnati is going to wallop somebody because they're a record? No, I just don't know if I don't know if I'd be taken Zack Taylor as a road favorite in New Orleans any time soon. It's not going to be in my agenda. This is a do not bet. Who takes, oh, it's also an Andy Dalton revenge game if he stays in there, right? It's his old team. I didn't even realize that. Next one is rams Panthers. It's in LA. I have no idea who the Panthers coach is going to be, but I don't think it's going to be in that role. The rams, this is a must win. This will be a rare home game for them because there can't be that many Carolina fans traveling. I'm going to say rams by 6 house. Is Tate Fraser a Carolina fan

"The Bengal Super Bowl journey began during the 2020 NFL Draft. When they drafted Joe burrow number one overall. Now he's in his second title game in three years in the 2019 season he won the college football national championship. And here in the 2021 NFL season he's now in a Super Bowl one year in between one bad year with an injury in between two potential championships in three years, which is just incredible. Like, what? And it's undeniable that Joe burrow has turned Cincinnati around, which is very, very cool. I love Joe burrow. I was not confident he could do that. And he has. He's got them, not only, I remember when they drafted him, I was like, well, maybe he'll win a playoff game eventually. No, he won three in year two. Now he's in a Super Bowl. That's incredible. It's a really cool story. And I think now that Tom Brady has retired, my new favorite quarterback in the NFL is going to have to be Joe burrow. I love the guy. I really admire him. I respect him as work ethic. His swag or the way he carries himself. You can learn a lot about how to be a person by watching Joe burrow. His confidence, his work ethic, his drive. His leadership, his camaraderie with his teammates. There's a lot you can look at Joe burrow and go, um. As a man as a human as a coworker as a boss as an employee, whatever. You can learn a lot by watching how Joe burrow carries himself in the way and the things he does as a quarterback. I want to give credit to Cincinnati and the Bengals organization. For two things. Number one, they stuck with their head coach as Zack Taylor, when 2019, they went two and 14. Last year in 2020, it went four 11 and one. That's too bad years in a row. And when you're seeing NFL teams, we saw David colley get axed after one year and then I thought he overachieved. I mean, in the NFL, your job is never guaranteed. And the fact that Cincinnati stuck with Zack Taylor, even after two bad years, and it's been rewarded with a Super Bowl appearance is very, very cool to me. And it makes me happy for Zack Taylor because I hate seeing people fired in the NFL. Even people that are bad. I go, I still have a twinge of sadness for them and their family. Remember Zack Taylor was actually the rams quarterback coach before becoming the Bengals head coach..

"I had somebody next to me, you know, protect his identity. He's a good friend of mine, say, if the chiefs go down and score on this drive, it's church, meaning it's game over. Right. And they scored. And it was 21 three, and I went. I don't think so. I don't think this game's over. And when the Bengals came back and got that samaj P Ryan run, they got themselves immediately back into the game and then Eli Apple makes that tackle on tyreek hill. They have that something where they believe whatever happens in the game, good or bad. They're going to have a chance eventually in the end to win it. It's an interesting conversation though about Sean mcvay that Alex was getting at, though, because I remember he did a lot of reflecting on why he lost to the Patriots. Or Super Bowl. And he talked about in that he's wrote a story with SI. He did a lot of press about it. He talked about it and he said that he was going back years. And patriots film to comb through what Belichick did in this big game and what Belichick did in that big game. And he got so lost in the weeds of the whole thing. And I think the one thing that he really pointed to was the extra week, right? So he had all this extra time to go ahead and waste his time, essentially looking back at the 16 Super Bowl against Kyle Shanahan was a big one because obviously it's a somewhat similar system that Shanahan was running within Atlanta. So he went back and looked at what the falcons did and it's a totally different team, right? I mean, there's no relevance, really. And I'm wondering if he's learned from his mistakes, right? And I wonder, especially going up against as coaching staff like the bangles and Zack Taylor that know him extremely well. If he outsmarts himself again, I do wonder. I do want to be concerned about what the rams is that he's going to come out and get away from what they do as a team because he's going to be like Zack Taylor's going to know I'm going to run wide zones. Zack Taylor is going to know that I'm going to run empty. Zack Taylor is going to know that I'm going to run these four or 5 core passing plays. So we're actually going to go to our secondary group of plays. And maybe we haven't practiced those as much. And maybe they're not as ready to run them in a game. So this is a tough draw for to draw Bill Belichick and then to draw a guy that's super familiar with you, the second time around in the Super Bowl is Zach Taylor. It's tougher McVeigh and I wonder how much from the first experience he's going to take away and learn the second time around..

"What he was as a quarterbacks coach. That's a different animal than running the entire program. And Zach Taylor, obviously, I think, has done an incredible job getting helping to get the Bengals to this point so far. So let's go from there. Because last year, I know, I personally wasn't high on Zack Taylor. I know you weren't high on Zach Taylor. I know there's new personnel, but what's the biggest difference between Zack Taylor last year and Zack Taylor this year? Healthy Joe burrow, Jamar chase, he can do the things you guys are very, very familiar with the offense that Zach Taylor wants to run and he has run it to perfection with Brian Callahan with Dan picture who I had a good conversation with earlier in the week via Zoom, he has the kind of people here in place in a third year that's made the difference. And obviously Joe burrow being healthy and not tearing his ACL like he did in 2020. That's a big part of it. But guys, I will tell you the biggest change in this team. 21 2021 from 2020 is the defense. They went out. They spent the much like the Patriots did, spent the money on the defense, difference being, I think the Bengals had enough personnel that they weren't relying entirely on one or two players. I think with the Patriots, maybe, you know, the theory is Matt judon, wore out towards the end of the year, was not as effective as he was in the first half of the year for the Patriots. And with the Bengals, you have younger players, von bells only 25. People forget that, but he's only 25, Jesse Bates is only 24. And then you have Chad obey a woozie and Eli Apple has been reborn here in Cincinnati. Under louanna remote, the defensive coordinator, Troy hendrickson followed up his great year in New Orleans with a career year..

"QB NFL podcast on Gary Grammy. I'm Connor. And Connor, we have the Super Bowl coming up in, oh, I don't know, a week. The rams are the favorites in this game and rightfully so. I think everyone understands why the Los Angeles Rams should be Super Bowl 56 champions in all likelihood. However, we're gonna spend the top of this show kind of telling you why they won't win this game. Why maybe the rams suck after all? Maybe. Yeah. Maybe they're the worst team in football when it's all said and done. I don't transient Hollywood types, just checking in pretending you loved football the whole year. Get out of here with your clown franchise. You're not gonna win this Super Bowl. I didn't see you guys before Robert Woods torturers ACL. There's no like I don't think anyone that's just a collector of vibes or judge or vibes. Like you can't deny the Bengals right now. Like 90% of the country is just absolutely on fire for this team. And they've got like a Loyola Chicago kind of vibe right now, which is almost impossible to cultivate in the NFL, but for some reason like everything that was perpetually unlikeable about this team for decades is now all of a sudden cute and fun. And that's what happens. And, you know, jail burrough MVP. I don't know, you can only ride vibes so far, I feel like, although we are now, you know, we're now in a one game scenario. And look, if you're talking broadly about the NFL, you know, whatever we saw the Texans beat the Titans this year, we saw the Jaguars beat the bills, things happen. We're not going to suggest this is a potential upset of that magnitude should the Bengals win this game, but objectively speaking, they are probably the second best team participating in the Super Bowl next week. But let's run down sort of the rams weaknesses to start here. And I want to start on the defensive side of the ball because we know how good Aaron Donald is. We know how good that front four is with a great gains have a breakout year and then obviously have von Miller and Leonard Floyd on the edges. They've had games this year where they just didn't really tackle very well. And you even saw it pop up Troy reader just a couple of tackles on that forty-niners last touchdown drive in the NFC title game. You've seen it come up and I feel like if you go back, I mean, frankly, if you go back to when the jets upset the Bengals, that was the case of a day when a defense that usually tackles pretty well, just didn't tackle. And now we have a rams team that they have a handful of games, or they just didn't tackle very well. Yeah, it's weird, right? When you have like a season where 13 of your games and this is including the playoffs, you've allowed fewer than a hundred rushing yards. But that said, games like the colts game, both of the forty-niners games. The ravens game, which they won earlier in the year, and the Cardinals game where they just got bowled over earlier in the year. They just stand out and, you know, maybe it's because we don't think of someone like Aaron Donald. You know, leading to a bad running defense, but as we've talked about in this show before, like I just think that there are some things schematically that, you know, they can use the ram strength against them. We've seen this when von Miller and Bradley Chubb were together in Denver, where a lot of teams would invite them up the field and then run into the gaps that they created with that kind of upfield surge. When Aaron Donald was playing the forty-niners, you know, he would find himself just fighting back a lot of down blocks, which are really easy things for offensive lineman to make and the forty-niners make sure it happens that way schematically. What the Bengals it's gonna be interesting, right? Because they can do the traditional outside zone stuff. They mix in a lot of inside zone too. And so I think that they're not like any team is not specifically one kind of school, but I think that Zack Taylor, if you have, if you have Joe Mixon, if you have the threat of burrow just hanging back there and being kind of like a young, thin Ben Roethlisberger and just slinging The Rock fearlessly, then you have to respect that and you have to lighten the box. And so lo and behold, you're going to if you're Zack Taylor, you probably like the odds a little bit. I mean, Joe Mixon is a bigger guy. I think he's they're gonna try to ride him a little bit. We saw a couple of times that chiefs game. I mean, look, we'll get to that right side of the Bengals offensive line. It is maligned and it's maligned for a reason here. They just haven't done very well this season. There were times where they got mixing behind that side of the line and had some success in the cheese game. I'm stealing someone's line on Twitter and I'm very sorry for that, but someone pointed out like, you know, their screen games kind of effective to that side. You can't really tell if your defensive lineman, if you are getting upfield really easily because of a screenplay or just a regular play because you get a feel pretty easily on any play. But they've had some success doing some things to that side. I mean, it past protections and issue. But they can still have some semblance of balance here. If they can get the run game going a little bit. Yeah, I think so. I mean, they went through a lot of effort, I think, in Kansas City to establish that as sort of a tone center they use Jamar chase is that backfield satellite to kind of try to not only gauge the coverage and figure out what the chiefs are doing defensively, but to peel guys out of the box and see if they can get more defenders out of the box and lighten the load a little bit for mixing. So I think Zack Taylor is just kind of an experimenting with stuff like that. And if you're Sean mcvay, I think what's interesting about this and it's interesting any time you play somebody that's coached for you is that they kind of understand the breadth of you and what you're trying to accomplish. And what's interesting about Taylor is, you know, there's so many influences on that scheme that I just think, you know, I'm not saying Sean mcvay and Raheem Morris can't figure this out and I'm not saying that Sean mcvay and Raheem Morris don't have depth to their scheme, but it's like, what if Zack Taylor goes, you know, I was talking to somebody today about this. Like, there's a lot of this 2015 dolphin stuff. Like, you know, Gary kubiak Broncos sort of an offense that they can just sort of call upon at any time and sort of start running that. I mean, you know, he's got a lot of weird stuff in his back pocket that this is the time to see it in the Super Bowl. This is when you want to show it. But I think he probably knows a little bit more about what mcvay is going to try to do versus McVeigh tried to guess what Taylor is going to do, because at the very diverse coaching backgrounds, and I think that you could probably present something a little bit broader and more unique in the run game there. Well, let's go to the other side of the ball and again discuss why the rams are simply just a terrible football team that are lucky me in this position. This offensive line and you saw it frankly you saw it in the last two meetings with the forty-niners, maybe not as much in the victory over the bucks and over the Cardinals, so you can tell how.

"You had one of those last week against the Titans, but the Titans did a nice job of shutting him down. Bengals score less than 20 points. You know, what if you don't get one of those this week? That's like my big thing. And I don't think Joe burrow is gonna play bad. I think he's gonna be pressured. But if you don't get Jamar chase going and the chiefs figure out a way to slow him down, which I think Steve spagnola has been in the league for a long time, can probably handle that. What do you have left, especially if Chris Jones is going to dominate in the interior? I don't know. I like, I don't know if it's like, you know, 7 out of ten or 6 out of ten I would say times the chiefs win that. I think it's a scenario where and I think you got to touch on it there. The Bengals need to be like plus two in those big plays, those 50 plus yard plays. And I'm not, I mean, look, no one should get more of those and the chiefs than any given match up. So it's up. That's the formula it's just not a likely path to victory. Yeah. Jamar chase was so ridiculous in that game, by the way. But if you're the Bengals, this is gonna get clipped now and put on like Cincinnati area radio and when they make the Super Bowl and I'm already like so to go back, I pick every single game of the year back in July, right? And then that week, you predict every team's record because you pick every game. And that week is always flooded with calls from every radio station wanting you to come on and defend your picks. I think ray ratto from San Francisco, the legendary ray ratto. Said it best when he's like, who are you and why are you doing this? Doesn't make any sense. But Cincinnati, it was at the end of the week and I was like frustrated and I was like, I don't want to do this anymore. And then the Bengals, whoever was doing like local radio and Cincinnati called their like three games, are you kidding? And then I was just like, I lost it. And I was like, this team is bad. They suck, like they're not going to win a lot of games. So like, stop calling me. And then, of course, they're in the Super Bowl. So I'm already like, I already look like a jerk there, but you know it's funny, it's like you've had so much progress with Joe burrow and everything looks so awesome. It's like you should just like make some deal with the devil with the chiefs and just be like, you know, just get us out of this healthy. You know, like if you don't, if you don't sack him and we can play with a fully healthy Joe burrow next year, like we'll just we'll just run like the wing tee and then blame it on Zack Taylor or something like that. I don't know. But he's so special. You know what I mean? Like he's such a special player. Would you rather give your all and lose and then not have him for a portion of next season or just like, I'm not seriously suggesting this, but like, man, you know, it's just watching the Titans game. God, if they lose him again, it's what worries me, you know? You're sort of aiming for a bell dozer versus samaje pran, wildcat type of game here. I would love that. I would write a book on that..

Yeah and like maybe we can piece together a drive but if not hopefully our defense keeps us in it and that was probably part of it. Minnesota wasn't moving the ball so they felt like they could be conservative but once they opened it up it was like all. There's the potential out route to dramatic chase. They're gonna find boy. And i'm gonna hit t higgins not now suddenly. It's a tie game. They get the ball back. And i wasn't thinking there at the end of that second quarter. They were going to score instead they do and then they come back to start the third quarter score. I i would have to look at this. And probably i probably should have have the bengals ever scored on three touchdowns on three straight possessions. Zack taylor calling the shots. Because maybe an india last year is the one i can think of. Yeah but man. What a flurry that was. That was just haymaker after haymaker to the minnesota version of andy dalton in the minnesota vikings. How many times since two thousand sixteen have the bengals scored on their final possession of the first half and their first possession of the second. You know this no. I don't. I'm asking pseudo retort. Okay i was like i guess but it doesn't feel like many and it felt like last year it happened to them a lot in these close games. They're hanging in there. The probably not the more talented team and then boom they hit with that haymaker. It's tough to recover from. And they let the vikings come back but they still had enough to to get it done. And that's that's why that goes on that fourth and one that we're talking about on thirty. He was tired of that. I think and it got his head a little bit. And i think learn from that yopie learns from that. Because i think they're going to be in a bunch of close games and let's talk about that a little bit before we break. Then we dissect it i think it in great detail in the first hour of the show but still i in real time fourth and one from the thirty i wanted to see. Kevin huber punt. I didn't like it. I'm still not in love with it. But i wanted to be aggressive. I've complained about lack of aggressiveness. When it comes to coaching for years. I love the fourth and one decision late in overtime. I love the way they handled the end of the first half. I want zach to have his foot on the gas when it comes to aggressiveness. I don't want this team to play passive. I don't want them to be coached. Passive but you understand. There's going to be things that come with that and occasionally there's going to be a situation where you go boy. I wish they wouldn't have done that. But they're being aggressive if everything occurs within that spirit. I'm.

You can't compare any part of zach. Taylor's tenure to marvin lewis. Is this idea that other. Just zack's not on the hot seat because the bengals they have such patients marvin lewis spent many years. And you might say too many years cashing in equity from early during his time in cincinnati but that equity was substantial. They went from two wins. Two eight wins than held. Steady at eight wins then won eleven games that bought years of patients. Then there was the season marvel's the coach of the year. The reboot two thousand eleven season. Very good two thousand twelve season very good two thousand thirteen regular season. Great two thousand fourteen season. I thought marvin should have been the coach of the year. That your two thousand fifteen season. They were great until all hell broke. Loose against pittsburgh. Zack taylor has not built up. Any win-loss equity look. "Ma is probably myself. Listen so you ma'am a fan of yours. 'cause you are very true and tell us impersonal. Just wanna to debt man. Well i appreciate that clearly. I have you fooled us. You know 'cause you always talk about. We always talk about the coaching. You know if you look at the three coaches in afc north. How do we ever can to leave that. Zach taylor and i don't know who the defensive coordinator is going to beat. Those guys and gm is that they've been doing for a long time from the ozzy nuisance and the ground based the number job. We always do you think they could be very fair. I think it's the question that has to be answered by. The end of the season does does zack taylor and his staff give this team in edge because i know mike tomlin gives pittsburgh and edge. I think it's motivational. I think what i from. What i saw kevin fancy last year. He he gives the cleveland. Browns a schematic edge with john harbaugh and baltimore. There's a tone setting sort of organizational edge there. I don't know what edge. Zack taylor brings to the bengals edge. This coaching staff brings to the bengals. And i'm not saying they don't bring one but by the end of the season we better have an answer to that question because among the series of unknowns that exist coming into that season two coming into this season that might be at the very top of the list if i look at the kansas city chiefs even before. Patrick mahomes was there andy. Reid gives a tactical advantage right. He does just from an offensive standpoint. What advantage zack. And what would advantage to his coaches. Bring to this team right now. I don't have an answer by the end of the season. We better have an answer as well. I've i've been playing testing. I was seven years old. If i if i that says down at the table with me and plates we got the same pieces..

I notice about like the miami guys. You have a very similar cadence. Like i think i can tell now when someone i never knew. Miami had an accent and it doesn't exactly but i think miami has a cadence. Let's just listen to jeff darlington. Jeff really yeah. I do think so i do think so the texas the texans name naming tyrod taylor their starter. Is this hot news or not. News news max. I mean we've been paying attention guys. We know where this is. It's still incredible. It's fascinating that that we're talking about tyrod. Taylor starting a team with the shawn watson. he's healthy but that's where we're at man not news. We knew this was coming. Yes not news. Zack taylor i mean when you look at tyrod taylor. At the starting quarterback spot poor guy lost his job. In cleveland then. He loses his job with the charges for medical issues. That made him a medical doctor made a mistake. And then you talk about the quarterback says behind me jeff driscoll and david meals from stanford rookie. I mean who else she gonna turn to only hot news that will ever come out of houston now is when does shawn watson goes somewhere if he goes or gets on the field or get some good news not news. Tyrod taylor is reminded me a little taste like early mid career fitzpatrick in the sense. That maybe he's the guy who can start for certain teams and after two or three weeks ago. He's good then. He has two or three weeks. Where you go okay. That's why we're still looking for a quarterback. But he's the best texans had easily right now right if i got one for you. Jeff saquon barkley. "Mel. We'll be back tomorrow to get you ready for the lead up to week. One bengals vikings paul brown stadium and important important season opener. You have got to. I think if. You're zack taylor. If you're this bengals team you have got to set the tone out of the gate. That things are different this year right especially to chat because you look at the schedule if you go into. Let's say pittsburgh owen too. But that's what i was getting to alex. Sorry i took the words out of your mind as we've talked a lot about win the schedule came out it's backloaded. It's very difficult over the last five six weeks of the season. You've got to build some cushion early because if you are two and four and five as you near the midway point of the season you're in big trouble and if you're zack taylor. That's it this has to be kind of make or break for him. If this team doesn't win seven games. I don't know that. Zack taylor survived now. I've always the one thing that the mike brown does not like to do is pay people not to work so firings act. Taylor would be a bit of a step away from the norm for mike. Brown it's not usually his mo. But now i mean i. I don't know that this is necessarily a very good vikings team. They've got some holes. They've got question marks much like the bengals and look in the nfl. The margin for error is so small every week. But i don't look at this minnesota team and think man all three phases of the game at team's pretty good kirk. Cousins is their quarterback. That's that's a team you. If you've got the team you think you have. That's a team. You gotta beat. And i think it needs to be done with defense or at least the defense needs to show when necessary. They can carry their their their weight. I've heard people say that they just need defense to get one or two stops and berl deliver the rest. Well i think we've found out in the preseason. That's probably not likely the case right. I'm expecting a good year from joe. borough am. I expecting a year where the bengals are regularly scoring..

"Now, the final coach who isn't potentially I can't even talk. The final coach is potentially in danger of losing his job is Zack Taylor, the Bengals head coach. He's been there for two years. He has a 6, 25, and one record as an NFL head coach. Two years ago, Andy Dalton was his quarterback. They went two and 14. They got the number one overall pick. Last year started really well. They had Joe burrow playing awesome and then Joe burrow got hurt out for the year. And it's a bit cheap to blame a coach for having a bad year when you're starting quarterback, gets injured and messes up their knee. And then on top of that, you know, the Bengals late in the year beat a really, really good Pittsburgh Steelers team. And they did it without Jill burrow, did it with a backup quarterback and they beat a playoff team Pittsburgh. So it's a mixed bag for Zack Taylor. Two years ago, it seemed like they were tanking, trying to get the number one overall pick. Last year, Joe burrow got hurt, so they had no quarterback. Now this is year three for Zack Taylor, and he has to show the world he can coach. Now part of why Zack Taylor might lose his job as to make room for Joe Brady. Joe Brady, remember, worked with Jill burrow in college at LSU. He is currently the Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator, so they can fire Zack Taylor, simply to make room so they could bring in job radius when you ex head coach. But man, I really think that blame exact tailor for the bad year last year seems very, very heartless and totally unfair. So I'm not a fan of, we'll see how the year goes, maybe week 17 I'll be saying different stuff. But currently where I stand now, I look at Zack Taylor and I go, ah, you've only won 6 games in two years. It's time to show the world you can coach. And if you don't, unfortunately,.

A.J. Green keeps future with Bengals up in the air: 'Who knows what is going to happen?'
"Green had a decent game yesterday He after the game was Noncommittal about his future is going to help him with that. Aj thank you. i love you. You're going to be thirty three years old next year. See it's not here not here. I mean this is. This is not something that's franchise should have to wrestle with. I do think you referenced atkins before. I do think one of the most interesting off season questions is do they move on from a guy who played a whopping seven snaps yesterday and they are roughly thirty million dollars to over the next two years. Do they move on tough. How do you not you have to start moving on from old bed players. You're your goal for the next. Three games should be to figure out who you on this roster that you can go with. It's not no atkins gino watkins. It's not going to be jay green next year them. We just we just let go of back in two thousand fifteen. They were good because for years. It seems like that's driven. The strategy gives them rewards player but andrew. Whitworth give your young lineman chance. Give some linebackers chanson and go from that. You have to figure out what you have. At some capacity because of all the whole we just mentioned in the last segment with the new england patriots cling to jeans seconds to about the current state of their team which is not great but would they cling to gino atkins. Because it used to be good a long time ago no or because. They felt like they owed him something with the pittsburgh. Steelers no with the baltimore ravens with lynn. The san francisco forty nine know what. Zack taylor's old teams. Move on move on from expense. Ami did it last year underperforming players. The dolphins were oh and seven and tanking moved on. Yes people what are they taking doing this publicly. Okay there now. Competing there in the playoff hunt. They went toe to toe with the chiefs. Like they're in a better position. I think there's a place in the nfl for jay green. I do on like a two year deal green bay or something. I don't know that there's a place in the nfl for gino acts
What to Make of Patriots Video of the Bengals Sideline
"We've got what's this patriots scandal I I can't believe it. I can't believe whatever reading here. It happened last Monday at a a press conference Bengals head coach Zack. Taylor was asked by Bengals. Radio analyst Dave Lapham about whether quote the Patriots had a videographer up in the bengals press box area Working with an advanced scout that was taping video. The bengals sideline during the Cincinnati. Cleveland Game Taylor replied that he was aware there was an incident in the. NFL was investing later that day. The Patriots responded with the statement said the organization's production crew had been filming a video for their team websites. recites the pats website has a series. Do Your job and what they were doing was apparently highlighting an advance scout right so the Patriots are set to play the bengals. Does this last Sunday the previous Sunday they are at a bengals game. Apparently doing a documentary on an advance scout. Okay this of course could be read as a preplanned excuse because in two thousand fifteen. ESPN's Seth wicker champion. Don Van Natta report on a piece on spy gate deflate gate founded founded Patriots record had recorded forty games between two thousand and two thousand seven and their cameraman were given excuses if they got caught quote the Patriots videographers. We're we're told to look like media members to tape over their team logos or turn their sweatshirts inside out to wear credentials and said Patriots. TV or craft productions videographers. What are the chances the Rams will make the playoffs?
"Does it do to the rams next year? You still think I mean it sounds like from the way you set up that they should get into the postseason. They're still set up very very well but obviously it would be the most disappointing disappointing thing for them to go from Super Bowl Super Bowl comp- contender did not even making the postseason. That's feel good. That can happen Kirk. I mean that's that's not out of the ordinary Mary because it's not in your hands right right like you need help correct. You gotTa have the Minnesota Vikings which I wouldn't be shocked if they lost that game to Green Bay right. I wouldn't be shocked diff- I wouldn't be shocked if they go to and one in these final three. That's not that's not crazy but I don't think I'd be shocked to if we saw the rams lose at San Francisco. Oh right you're not going to be shocked on that one either. I wouldn't be shocked face. I think San Francisco is the best team in the NFC and they've proved it by You know beating who I thought was the top team in the NFC. Two of the top teams being both Right they curb stopped the Green Bay and then they basically jumped last week. The New Orleans yeah right at the end like basically they try it website. I mess it up. They tried to jump George Kendall on fourth and two and yet he dragged him all the way down the field and they kicked a field ago. But I'm not surprised What may happen with the ramp to what I am saying is that they can still go on like you mentioned and be ten and six and did not make the playoffs? Is that a successful season. It's not successful. Because they didn't go to a super bowl or when champion actually is everything. But when you think about the year after team wins the superbowl and and what they've had to deal with and at the end of the day weaken right that story with the Rams and say what did they lose because when you win Super Bowl or you have a successful season. Yeah people start to steal from you. They want they want some of that from they take from you remember. They took Zack. Taylor the Rams Offensive Coordinator quarterbacks coach now the head coach coach Cincinnati. And we'll see what's having a great year but you still do you take away some of that right. You lose coaches on the defensive line. There's some things that the rams have had Floor two years ago. Head coach of the Green Bay packers because success of the team. I can say that at ten and six and I said this at the beginning of the season and I'm still saying the rams are going to be eleven and five and ten and six and I promise you they'll be a better team than they were in two thousand
A.J. Green's injury on 'subpar' Bengals practice field will cost wide receiver up to two months
"Speaking of injuries unfortunately an M._r._i.. Has revealed that Cincinnati Bengals Wide Receiver A._J.. Green has torn ligaments in his left. Ankle is according affording to Schefter here. They are likely to sideline green six to eight weeks up really not a good situation and teammate Tyler Boyd questioned the turf. The team was practicing on when green was injured. It was terrible. I couldn't run any routes out there. I'm falling all over the ground man it was it was bad. It was rocks pebbles out there man it was somewhere we should have been just feel like the turf was old. You know it just wasn't we didn't get good traction in and out of her breaks. You know a lot of guys not just me was on the ground but I mean who wasn't up there that long but there's gotTa make a word man. We gotta get it well. The turf was that welcome stadium at the University of Dayton where the bengals are practicing coach you buy this well. I haven't seen the video really in this instance probably not but I will say that you know feel. Surfaces are very very important for player safety. You know whether it's a grass field you know what is the old school latch with Pittsburgh steelers. We practice on hard old school astroturf every day for five years so no you got to look at it but in that instance I think it was a matter of the kind of rolling up on the back of his ankle and that was what I saw caused that particular injury about sure it was the field service problem here in addition to the injury of course which is is paramount is the optics of this and when you have a player who says this sort of perception is reality and then then it's out there and you got players. You might believe this is the case whether the optics to this are awful and this time of year teams are trying to realize their fan N._B._C.'s. I've been a part of that for a number of years. Every team has an operations department and kind of like the offensive line. You'd never talk about the operations department until there's a problem and part of their responsibility is to advance where hotels are safety of the fields whether or not the field deal with safer not now the perception is that it was a problem now e._j.. Green fairness may have gotten hurt it was on their practice field but they're players now think that was a factor and they're at the University of Dayton given rookie head coach. He's trying to establish himself itself and now he has a problem in the locker room because these players are questioning what the organization did and that Operation Staff that you're referring to my signed off on the practices being here the League went to them. They sent a site survey team to inspect the field and that site survey survey team for the Bengals said this field is okay to practicing and maybe they thought it's one practice we can get through now. You've got a situation where you see A._J.. Green get hurt on this play and we can take another look at it right here where he goes up for the past the D._v. lands on his ankle. He's on the turf tears ligaments in his ankle. He's going to be sixty weeks. Think about how much is at stake your now. You have a first year head coach Zack Taylor who's trying to come in and implemented program. They've already lost their first round draft. Pick joyner Williams to a season ending injury. Now you lose your left tackle. You lose your number one wide receiver. They are at a loss there and A._J.. Green himself is going into the last year of his contract so at a time when we're talking about new deals for Michael Thomas in Amari Cooper Julio Jones guess who else was on that list of A._J.. Green so what happens now to his value as argument now that he is going to be out for some period of time and organization standpoint. That's a really difficult position because A._J.. Degrees could say hey. I've done all the right things. I was out there practicing at the university because you wanted me to and now that's going to hurt me and take money out of my own pocket. It could really cause a situation to go awry very quickly and again even if the operations team went through all the protocols the the perception is that this feel wasn't safe and now they have a problem with one of their best players. Yeah I think that team without J. Green if you look at their record versus with huge and so he's a big part of their team. He's going to be missed. This is that there's a fair amount of injury here to start. You know this is not the way not the way you want to get off the ground. No team does last last year he missed time with a toe injury and when he was out of there the offense did not operate the same toddler boys production fell off and everybody thinks talent boy. We'll just emerge as the number one guy and he's a really good wide receiver but the fact that matters A._G.. Green when he's out there makes tyler. Holler bought a better received. John Ross still has not stepped up as the first round draft pick that he was. He says he's ready to do that. Will they need him to do that. They've got some other players Alex Berenson some good young receivers but A._J.. Green is on a level with Julio Jones. He's is that kind of talent and when you Jack Taylor coming into his offense it's hard to get by without somebody that good.
Kansas City Chiefs defeat Indianapolis Colts
"We will join the AFC division game between the patriots and the chargers. And then following that. We'll get the NFC. Division game between the Philadelphia Eagles who travel to New Orleans to face the New Orleans Saints. And then the racing report was saying the Sunday supplement and Willie from nine to midnight tomorrow night. So that's your Sunday rundown. Yeah. Let's talk a little NFL little colts with Ricky in Indiana. Ricky what's going on? Fantastic. Brother. What'd you think? Are you? Well, yeah, we're waiting on the Los Angeles Rams season to end because it looks like Zack Taylor the quarterbacks coach is going to become the next head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals. So more power to the Rams and does act Taylor. Get a new coach in here. And let's get this program. Back on track. Because I don't believe it's one of the worst jobs that were opened in the National Football League. You've got a patient owner you've got out several outstanding players you just gotta keep adding to that Ed to the offensive line. And you know, Rick I can live with Devon white because I mean every mock draft see has LSU linebacker Devon white six one to forty. He's an absolute stud going to the Bengals at number eleven my feeling is. And I like the Bengals quarterback. Andy Dalton the red rifle. I think he can get you to the playoffs. I don't thinking he can win you a Super Bowl and a guy. Can I believe is Dwayne Haskins some day, and I like the Bengals to draft a quarterback into Wayne Haskins. He probably won't last two eleven. So you might have to go up trade up and get him. Okay. He's probably gonna go to the New York Jets or giants at six. Okay. And what what I'm afraid of is it the Pittsburgh Steelers knowing that Ben Rothlisberger is on the eighteenth tee of his career what one year max to me probably next year. Really should be it for Ben. They could definitely trade Antonio Brown because he is absolutely fallen out of favor with that franchise. Get a first round pick for him and use those picks to move up and take twain Haskins and. A whole bunch of Buckeye fans will become Steeler fans. No doubt. If that happens. So Ricky, and I know you're looking forward to baseball season, brother. So am I we're gonna talk who's going to be the reds center fielder? You got any predictions for me? Right now. Right. Well, I'm gonna put my chips to the middle of the table. And I'm gonna take Philip Ervin. Let's give him a chance and brother, we will talk soon. Appreciate the call from Valparaiso, Indiana, man. You are the man. Thanks so much Rik in Valparaiso Brandon's in Indianapolis, Brandon. What is going on paychecks for a little bit disappointed with I'm disappointed with the I like the Bengals stupid. I'm a colts fan. And what? Yeah. That was disappointing. They just couldn't generate anything and this this could be at for Adam venit, Terry. It is. I think it is what he's had a great career. You know? But I I don't know if it's the weather had an impact, you know. But I think Kansas City now takes I mean, I don't know if they can beat nor I could be wrong. You don't want everyone account New England out. But I thought we had a chance trickster, and I think a lot of people giving the colts a chance because. Defense is effective. But today, I think they just showed what they are about. You know, I think whoever has to go there. It's going to be hard for if it is New England or the chargers, but you never wanna Brady out. But I don't know. I think this year the chiefs get that stick it to them just kind of a morbid sense of if the New England wins tomorrow to have them get run out of the gym at Arrowhead. I would love it. Sorry. New England Patriots fans, but van I am tired of them in the in the AFC title game. I I am to see it as far as as far as the Bengals go. I I hope I hope they get the right coach. You know? I, you know, I mean, you know, the the Rams seasons. Don't go one. In hope. I wish the best for Marvin. I think he was a nice guy and all time for a change. But with the quarterback situation you were talking about Dwayne Haskins if the Bengals could draft him somehow cut me, they tried the read rightful or. Kind of like an AJ McCarron type deal if he would he would tutor Dwayne Haskins for a year and then Andy move on and make bigger dollars. Elsewhere. He would be trae trading. Yeah. He could he's like Alex Smith he could make a bunch of money elsewhere. But but the, but but groom Dwayne Haskins free year Dwayne takes over and twenty twenty. Andy Dalton moves on. I don't want to hear about what you're saying. Is you don't think doll the guy that can get you over the hump and away? Correct. Yeah. I think it probably win you a playoff game. I don't think you can get you to a Super Bowl and other that great guy. He's a good career. He's a good player. But I need an impact player taking snaps. As far as you say real quick. I know you won't get so much time as far as you see. Because were going on. 'cause I mean with not follow Butler, and because I'm from here. But. Did listen to you? See I don't think there's good as last year with oh, look who all you lost. But obviously football game tonight. But I did hear Macron's comment. He was not happy. But I think they're going to be okay. I guess against they're still NCWA. You probably know more about fourteen in three, and this is a very balanced deeper American athletic conference, and I'm loving the fact that Wichita states in there, and it's bringing back memories of the old Missouri valley when I was a kid, and that was the best conference in the land. And Brandon I gotta run man. Thanks. Yeah. Baby. I mean, I think so I really do. Yeah. They're starting to find themselves in just a huge boost to beat to beat Georgetown into comeback. Like they did. Thanks so much. I appreciate it. And I want to talk a little Cincinnati Reds when we return who is going to play center field for this club. And I wanna talk a little bit of the lineup one through eight man. Yeah. When we return
