"He is a absolute nightmare for defensive backs to catch and bring down and he gains big gains off those. We didn't see that this game because the passes were off target now. Don't get me wrong ben. Rothlisberger has carried the steelers to plenty of wins. He did carry this team to a number of wins and twenty twenty. And he's going to do it again. This season this game. He didn't have it and the team carried. Bend to a win. Now i say that by the end of the game he started getting going and he made a few passes. It just took him a little longer. So we're going to see week two. How ben rothlisberger comes out and plays against the oakland raiders to watch and see. How long does it take to really get into forming. get going. because that's when this offense is gonna shine looking overall at the offense looking at the scheme looking at the offensive balance. We saw them not give up on the run play. We saw a lot of tannin. Motion people are going to get frustrated with motion when it is a whole bunch of moving around and then they run the ball for two yards. People are going get frustrated with. That'd be like what's the point of doing all this stuff. If all you do is gain two yards will. The point isn't just that play those motions. Those actions suggest weeps everything they set up for later. Plays oftentimes they allow us to see. Okay if you're not gonna respect and unbalanced formation we're gonna attack when you adjust to an unfenced formation. We're going to how you adjust. We're going to look at your body language. Not just where you move but your body language you know we're going to see. Are you starting to predict okay. They moved over here. They motion over there. Okay they're gonna run up the middle. It's just going to happen and you get a lazy cover on the outside. You know this is. This is what canada's looking for all that all that action just gives more information not just about what. What the defensive play is. that what they're coverages. What their with their idea that play but their strategy for countering certain principles of the game certain ways you plan to attack them and you've put on film and you start to see better how they plan to defend that from the very start of the game so you'll see more of that big motion early in the game especially the first drive just because you have an offensive coordinator feeling out with the defense. Wants to do what they are planning to do to defense we saw beyond that. Don't worry about the message. There is don't worry if the motion doesn't lead to a big play you know. This is not a trick play. This is fleshing out what the defense is doing giving matt canada. You know information to drop what plays to to play later. Giving even ben. Ben is going to be able to see that during a break. He's gonna talk to canada. Can't it's gonna be able to say. Hey ben when they're doing this this is what they're doing. We know this because of how we saw them adjust to this motion. All these exaggerated things. Just give us more chance to see what they're doing other interesting things we saw. We saw when i call candidate magic even against those ten man fronts where they're taking away everything short. We saw the steelers orchestrate a screen pass for fourteen yards in. Which we we do a. We did a double screen. Where wonder too offensive lineman state into block and the rest looked out for strains we gained fourteen yards on. That did ten guys tight to the line and we have fourteen yards. We saw motion that created space of motion that led the play action that created space for a wide receiver where the ball and the receiver. Just you know. The quarterback wide receiver connection. Wasn't there but ben was bad throw or the receiver ran the route. A little wrong or they just didn't have the same idea of what was supposed to be going on that play. I don't know a lot of that. You can't tell but it just didn't work some other interesting things we saw. We saw zach gentry play more snaps than james washington.

"Instead of instead of michael backhoe scene and throwing it over to me with me tonight is kevin tate from the no one else podcast. You may have seen him. He's been on the very first. Know your enemy of the season before the hall of fame game. He was on with michael beck. He's been on with on tales from two a m with brian. Anthony davis kevin tate. Welcome back to know your enemy. Thanks jeffrey thanks for having been i love working with you guys man and you know. You're you're playing michael tonight. But i can't let you. Because i don't know the exit knows like you. I'ma might know personnel. But seen those. That's okay because this is all about personnel. This show all about the the players always as always know your enemy. We have guests from the other team. We are planning to have bruce nolan from buffalo rumblings here to talk about the bills in the second half of our show but before we get to that we're gonna talk about the steelers and we're and as they prepare to head to buffalo for week one so kevin was here right before the hall of fame game him and michael got to talk a lot about the steelers roster players on it makes some predictions. So we're gonna go back over the roster now that we have the finish fifty three man roster heading into week wine and we'll start you off with a with with a tough question here kevin When you look at the steelers offense this year. Is there a position. You look at and say outside of quarterback outside of ben rothlisberger that you say that position really needs to be or really could be a big strength for this offense kind of drives. The team's success will. The offense goes my personal opinion. I think they're tied in group. And i think it's all three of them. Wet what e. Brian offers in the in the passing game. You know being being able to being able to can be that that pass catching tiny in in in being the rookie fryer move. He's he's like both he's leaves a passenger tidy inline tiny and and i just like gentry size. He brings his. He's gotten better over the past couple two three years and he brings me brings that big frame that six eight three to sixty to sixty five. I like that. So i think if we're talking about a particular group outside a quarterback that could they can really surprise us this year especially in offense. I would probably role with the tiny and group. That's actually that's actually my pick as well. I think i kinda high on zach gentry as that number three. I don't think he's going to be like a major impact player but like you said he's big. He showed a lot of blocking talent in the pre season. And he's not good enough hands like if you leave him alone he's gonna catch the ball and he's frigging huge we all fryer moose dead in his little bit of action with ben rothlisberger that that was that was incredible looking. It was yeah. I like that big team proving. Oh yeah yup all right. So we're both high on the tight end roof. I want to ask you. Is this the best tight end room. The pittsburgh steelers have ever had three deep. Is this the best tight end room. The pittsburgh steelers of ever had. I think i think in this day and era thing. I think we're we're all guilty of some type of reasons. He bias so i'm really thinking we are but just thinking back i mean. He's he's obviously the all time but he did he play with spaeth. Yeah he space in. I don't even remember. The third guy wasn't room. Yeah he he played for. Think with jeremy tumen as well jeremy arcane and it wasn't like he played with mark bruener right right right well. That was way back. Yeah so i i. You know what. I'd say. So i mean just just just from what what each those guys brings to the table. I mean if. Brian cannot drop balls. You know i mean really. And he obviously blocking better. I read something about it the pharmacist. Pf gray was really good. This preseason fars is blocking which which which is much better than it's been in the other times career foreign blocking goes if we can get some semblance of the whether the twenty twenty eighteen twenty nineteen ron in andy. What we hear like twelve thirteen touchdowns anymore. He won't get that much production but if he's just that type of threat him wit wit fryer move and then if we ever need to bring in january. Yeah think this tightened group is probably the best. I can recall. I mean i go back as far as remember. Benny cunningham and eric green. I remember all those guys bowel remember. Who played with them to say. Oh that room was better than this one this. This is a talented room. Yeah they might not have. This might not have the best number one tight end. Because he's miller's obviously better narrow green out of either. These guys are better than eric green yet. We haven't seen that yet right there. Their second tied at number two. Count either lebron's Is probably the best number to tie down. The steelers of ever fielded receiving threat absolutely agree as a collective it is. That's exciting to me because in two thousand eighteen we saw vance mcdonald and jesse james I believe they set the receiver like the receiving record for tight ends as for the team as a group for your okay. Yeah for those two. Just like jesse james advance mcdonald like that's that's not. That's not easy right right right right. Yeah i mean this. Is those those guys. Those guys were were were good to average. These guys have the potential to be.

"Coming out Thought this was kind of big news but as things went on and ultimately this this breaking news. Podcast is about the steelers depth chart going into week one but we'll get there in just a moment real quick. Those jersey numbers that came out jamir jones changes jersey number. Two forty buddy. Johnson moved to forty five wait. I thought that was joe schubert. Yeah joe schubert moved to number ninety. Three also kello witherspoon. He chose jersey number twenty five. They also assigned jersey numbers to the other practice squad players. That weren't part of the steelers. Most notable karl joseph who was reported to possibly be moving up to the steelers fifty three man roster once he clear some protocols is number thirty. I'm not gonna get into all the others at this time. But the other thing is the pittsburgh steelers chose their captains for the twenty twenty one season. They selected ben rothlisberger on offense cameron. Heyward on defense and derek watt as the special teams captain so Missing from last year there was five captains had to on offense to and defense and special teams which was jordan dangerfield. So derek watt first time captain for the steelers in his second year rothlisberger and hayward has been seven straight years. That's as long as hayward's been captain. Rothlisberger has been captain thirteen times at eleven straight years. Two thousand ten. He was not a capital one in there. But the other offense of captain from last year was mark pouncey who retired and on defense. It was tj watched who there was some news with watt. Today he did not return to practice in any different role the what he's had throughout training camp so that kind of setting off some more panic and steelers nation I would say wednesday when the team practices and they have to give an injury report. That's going to be a real big indication with tj watt. Talk about him in a little. Bit more ear on this depth chart and we'll get more information tomorrow from head coach. Mike tomlin and his press conference scheduled for noon on tuesday. So let's get into this depth chart real quick because of some very interesting things. Let's let's start off with the offense and we'll go with the offensive line if went by the older depth chart. They only had four offensive lineman because they hadn't filled in a name for the starting right tackle. But as of right now with the new depth chart from the pittsburgh steelers. here's your starting offensive. Line right tackle. Chook sikora for moving back to the right side like he played last year. Right guard trae. Turner center kendrick green left guard. Kevin dotson left. Tackle dan moore junior. So that's the offensive line. That's the move. A lot of people expected some people were really reading into jc. Half an hour still being the first player listed on the depth chart that was simply because they had a mirror. Preseason the steelers hadn't changed it but kendrick green is. You're starting center with an hour and reserve joe. Hey is listed reserve tackle on both sides a bj fini's listed as the backup to turner on the right side at guard and left guard with kevin. Dotson the backup is listed as rashad coward Let's go ahead and jump into the wide receivers. The steelers have three wide receivers listed as starters. They have it in three different slots and that jujubes. Misuse turkey. Andre johnson and chase klay poll. The backups to those players. Are they have ray ray mcleod. He's behind smith schuster. But i don't know if that matters and they have james washington listed by the johnson. I would read into who they fall behind. That's just the order that they listed him at tight end. Here's what's interesting. Even though there was only one slot they squeeze two names into it. They have both eric. Hebron and pat fair moves listed as the starting tight end on. The first team was zach. Gentry as the reserve quarterback is what we expected. Ben rothlisberger one mason rudolph to duane haskins three derrick watts listed as the fullback and For running back is nausea harris followed by bennie. Snell junior and then kaelin balaj. That's the way the steelers have it for now. We'll see how the playing time shakes out when that ends up coming around. So there's the offense the defense here's some interesting stuff The way they have the defensive line they haven't listed as a defensive tackle at defensive in a nose. tackle it generally been hayward to it. Awhile well steph. Onto its on injured reserve so a tackle. They have cameron heyward backed up by isaiah louder milk at defensive and they have chris worm leaves the one and carlos davis the to and then at nose tackle. They have tyson allah with isaiah bugs in reserve now for outside linebacker. Trent jordan watt one. Tj watt is listed as the left outside linebacker on number one on the depth chart that has not changed we. Hopefully we'll hear more from coach tomlin about this tomorrow. If they plan on him being available for week one and then on the on the right side is alex highsmith. The reserves are the same for both they did it for both melvin ingram's listed as the reserve for both players followed by jimmy jones when looking at the inside linebackers. They have devin bush listed at the left. Joe schober the right. I'm not gonna read into left and right there but those are your two inside linebackers the next set of inside linebackers because remember the steelers have six is marcus allen and robert spelane then the third set is buddy. Johnson and ulysses gilbert the third. So that's kind of interesting especially if the steelers are going to have to make any more roster moves. You're probably looking at guys that are further down the depth chart and a lot of people feel that inside linebacker where they have six players could be somewhere where they have to make a move otherwise we'll get to that soon became cornerback. Here's what's interesting. The steelers in the past have listed slot corner or nickel or nickel corner as a starting role. They do not have that listed here. They do not have any quarterback listed in that way so all they have is left and right. Which is joe hayden on the left in camp sutton on the right on the first team. The second team is justin lane behind. Joe haden and james pierre behind cam sutton then. They're the third team has a pillow witherspoon behind justin lane. And arthur. Let behind james. Pierre no surprises it safety as its toronto edmonds. A strong safety minkah fitzpatrick is free safety. Miles killebrew's backing up crow edmonds with trae norwood backing up. Mika fitzpatrick finally to finish things off. Let's talk about the special teams. No really big surprises. When it comes to the specialists. Of course a chris boswell as the kicker presley harvard the third is the punter and holder and christian koonce as the long snapper. Ray ray mcleod is listed as both the punt returner and kick returner for the first team now. His reserves are let's go punt returner. I is deonte johnson to and then james pierre third when on kick return it goes rain. Mcleod benny snell junior as the second kick returner in jeans peers. The third It'll be interesting to see when he comes back from injured reserve. Anthony anthony mcfarland where he would fall with. It would be a head of railway mcleod behind because he was used a lot during the preseason so there is a pittsburgh steelers depth chart but they released today very interesting. It's funny because there's it's not a lot of big surprises but more a less or less there was a lot of confirmation of speculation on especially when it comes to the offensive line. So it's interesting with with these things just to see how they lay out in the in the reserves and everything else. I am pleased to see. Tj watch still there Probably because he is on the fifty three man roster. They're not going to remove him but they did list him. As the first player we should get more information on. What in the coming days but until then make sure that you.

steelers joe schubert derek watt ben rothlisberger kendrick green hayward jamir jones kello witherspoon karl joseph jordan dangerfield rothlisberger Rothlisberger mark pouncey tj watt Chook sikora Turner center Kevin dotson jersey bj fini chase klay

"Pittsburgh steelers fans welcome to this breaking news. Podcast of the pittsburgh steelers fifty three man roster. The steelers had to cut down to fifty three players by four pm. On tuesday august thirty first and this is their first fifty three man roster for the two thousand twenty one. Nfl season now. The reason. I say it's the first is because it's not going to be the last honestly this roster may only last a day if there's anyone that they're wanting to get to the i. r. to have come back early or anything like that and he kind of trades and kind of ups those are still could becoming so this is just the first version and it's actually quite interesting with some of the things that the steelers chose to do so. Let's break it down real quick. There was really no surprise at the quarterback position. It was ben rothlisberger mason rudolph and wayne haskins and joshua dobbs went to the injured reserve list as part of the announcement of this which is interesting because if he's going to the into reserve less now after not being on the roster for the day. This isn't un eligible to return thing this is. He's on the i are now. They could've put. I mean the the actual statement was that he is on the reserve injured list. Now could there be an injury settlement later if he's eligible to to play things of that nature. Perhaps i'm not sure. But i'm not surprised by this because if someone someone being on the i r this allows joshua dobbs to be on the sidelines for steelers games which i think is something that they ultimately want it. But let's not go too much into that. let's talk about. Who's on this team. The steelers kept four running back and fullback they. They're running. backs are nausea harris. Benny snell junior anthony. Macfarland junior and caylin balaj. The steelers released trey edmunds and jalen. Samuels i thought it was a chance that could maybe keep trey edmunds. Because he does some different things as h back. I think he's a prime candidate for the practice squad and possibly even elevation if they would need it so i don't think his time in pittsburgh is completely over. Also the steelers kept fullback derrick. What as expected and the steelers went with the five wide receivers that a lot of people had them projected to have all the way back ever since julius misuse to return so it was juju smith schuster. James washington deonte johnson. Chase klay poll. At ray ray mcleod in no particular order. The steelers also kept three tight ends. When eric hebron pat fair youth and zach gentry. They released kevin reiter as long as he goes through. Waivers everything he's another prime candidate for the practice squad. Additionally then we get to the offensive line which is kind of crazy with what the steelers did here. I wasn't sure or this is going gonna keep rashad coward or bj finney. Rashad coward a bj. Finney didn't keep either of them. They're going with eight offensive linemen. Which is kind of crazy right now when you think about it but it's chew chor four zach banner kevin dodge and trae turner kendrick green dan moore junior joe hague and jc half an hour. So this means that the steelers did not their backup guard right. Now is half an hour so i have a feeling we might see one or both of these players back on this roster sometime soon. I wouldn't be surprised if one day later if player. I've hinted at this monday morning before. Other things even came out that we could possibly see zach banner going on injured reserve early in the season with a chance to return and you can return after three weeks. Not three not three games three weeks the way i understand it which means that earlier. He goes on the sooner he can return. But that's the offensive line. Only eight offensive lineman at this time they might be looking to add another one outside of the organization or to have one of those other ones. Come back it'll be really interesting to see how this plays out over the next several days. So that's a total of twenty four players on offense so they're one less than they normally have on offense so let's go ahead and slide on over to the defense and the question was. Oh my goodness which defensive lineman of the steelers not gonna keep. Are they going to. Are they going to keep an extra one to keep seven. If so they still gotta lose one is going to be mondo bugs auto milk. Who's it going to be so looking at it. They kept them all. They kept eight. Defensive lineman cameron heyward stefan to it. Tyson allahu chris warmly. Henry mondo isaiah bugs. Carlos davis and isaiah louder milk. All of them all of them to start off on this fifty three man roster next did outside linebackers. The only kept four. The only kept for the big. Three of tj watt. Alex smith and malcolm melvin ingram. The third and the fourth was jamir jones who played the best in the preseason. So that was one that was kind of interesting what they would do with quincy rochet. He did not make the team. I'm sure they'd love to get them on the practice squad if he can get there. But here's where. I get surprised that they that they didn't keep quincy rochet but they kept six inside linebackers. That which were devon bush. Joe show bert. Roberts spelane buddy johnson marcus. Allen and ulysses gilbert the third. I was really surprised that they would keep that many inside linebackers and so if you outside linebackers but that's just what they decided to go with. And that's that's very interesting so ten linebackers when sometimes. There's only nine eight defensive lineman when a lot of times. There's only six or seven. You already had one more guy on defense because the guy on offense but if you're counting and you're and you're saying okay. They still going to have three specialists. How many they got back. They only kept eight defensive backs four corners and four safeties. So i would not be shocked to see the steelers. Possibly looking places here where they're a little bit thin because the cornerbacks are joe. Haden cameron jean-pierre justin lane. Yes that is correct. The steelers they've released. Arthur molet who seemed to be if he was healthy. Might have been in line to be the slot. Cornerback after an injury to antoine brooks but he was released gay as well as mark gilbert and then it safety. They kept four. Which wasn't surprise. They released donovan steiner and they kept making fitzpatrick tarot edmonds miles. Killebrew and trae norwood's so that is your pittsburgh steelers defense twenty-six players at all. You gotta finish up with a specialist. These reports came out monday night and yes they were true. The only the only one returner from last season. And that is place-kicker chris. Boswell the punter is seventh round draft pick presley harbin in the third and the long snapper is christian. Coots who has been on and off the steelers practice squad or training camp you know. He was on the practice. What a little bit last year when they might have been concerned of needing a long snapper with a lot of the covert stuff he played in the xfl but had himself a very nice preseason. So the steelers switch up both their punter and long snapper so in all twenty four offense twenty sixty fence. Three specialists fifty three men. Total on this team. This roster is likely to change its likely to change within. I mean i don't know about hours. But i the steelers could go out. And they could sign a veteran that was released right now because it would not have to clear waivers. They could pick up someone in the waiver wire. They could signed somebody back tomorrow. They could put one of their players on the i r. Unsigned somebody back. There's a lot of possibilities here so we will be breaking this down. Even more on the scarborough show podcast tonight at approximately nine. Pm on youtube and facebook and the audio will be going up sometime between eleven pm and midnight eastern so. Make sure you check that out but this was your breaking news. I don't even know if i said who i was. I can't remember. I was so excited about the fifty. Three man roster. This is behind the curtain editor. Dave scofield let you know what happened with this roster and these are most of the players you will see most likely come september twelfth. We are less than two weeks away from the steelers kicking off in buffalo. And we'll we'll see what kind of moves they make but bottom line is these are the players that that you can start to fall in love with hope. We'll see how they change. I'm sure something's going to happen. But as we always say here go steelers..

"Be a backup to nashi harris. Some even thought that he could be trade bait. Maybe he's a player that could be if a team loses a running back and would they be willing to trade for many snell. Well that's not gonna work out. Based on the fact that any sales been hurt all of training camps say he is supposed to play against carolina. he's probably going to get a lot of carries. I'm anxious to see what he has left in the tank. James washington is number two on the list like i said earlier. I don't think jujubes misusers going to play. I don't i doubt that. Deontay johnson plays much but a guy like james washington is going to play. He might play just the first half but he's going to play when you talk about a disgruntled player when you talk about a player who was kind of not happy with his current situation then my goodness you need to make sure that you take advantage of every opportunity. And he'll get plenty of those with dwayne haskins getting the start so keep an eye on washington before i go any further by the way i compiled this list without using quarterbacks. So you really jeff. Where's wayne haskins like. I didn't put quarterbacks on here. We know that they're going to he. And joshua dobbs are going to be the quarterbacks for this game i felt. It wasn't necessary to bring them up. We're all going to be watching the quarterback position next the offensive line. I have a feeling that the steelers starting off of line that zach banner on the right all the way to chew on the left is going to be playing. And i want to see them get. Maybe maybe it's only ten snaps or one series or whatever. I want to see them. Get some good quality robson together all of them trae turner kevin dots in kendrick green. You name it. I want to see him all. I wanna see them get good quality wraps good pass protection. Good push up front. That's what i wanna see. Let's go to the fourth player. Zac gentry yes. Zach gentry. I don't think that farm is going to play much if at all i don't think eric iran's going to play much. If at all that leaves that gentry with a golden opportunity he in in kevin rader are really battling it out here for this third tight end spot. Could they keep four. they could. I doubt they will. But zac gentry it. He's been playing really well so far in. He's hasn't gotten much of an opportunity. Why pat farm youth eric iran. That's probably why he's going to get every look to really make a make the team not just make the team. But say i could actually be valuable member of the fifty three man roster can i can also catch big game for him. I'm anxious to see what he can. Do anthony mcfarland not running back number twenty six. I want to see if maybe we can see explosive play. I don't care if it's a screen. Pass a check down. Look at nausea. Harris did against the detroit lions last saturday night. Little dump off windsors one on one matchup makes a guy. Ms forty six yards later. I'd love to see different. Mac and nag is explosive. We as fans just have not seen it yet. My goodness just wanna see it break one. That's all i wanna see. Let's go to honorable mention for the offensive side of the ball. I had kaelin balaj. He's going to be back in the lineup again. He looks like he could. Maybe it's between snell and balaj for this roster spot running back. i'm not sure. But it's gonna that's gonna be something to watch for. Sure fryer meat if he plays just because he seems to be an electric person. You always want to keep your eye on him. And last certainly not least matthew sexton number eighty kick return punt returner everyone including matty parole in his war room. Podcast which. I listened to thursday on my way home from work. They're all saying matthew sexton could win a job matthew sex and if he's going to win a job he has to make some type of contribution as a receiver. I just don't think anyone in the nfl anymore. It's going to have someone on the roster who only returns kicks now. Matthew sexton has been by far the best returner they've had this entire preseason but my goodness why in the world would they keep him if he can't catch passes or do anything else in the offense. Ray ray mcleod. I've thought he came on real strong last season. Kinda tailed off at the end. But he was a part of the offense he would run those sweeps he would do. Some of the dirty work and he's had some catches in the preseason. Even if matthews's jackson has any prayer upsetting in unseating. Ray ray mcleod. He's going to have to do something outside of kick and punt return duties. That's just my opinion all right. Let's go over to the defensive side of the ball five players to watch on the defensive side and we'll start off joe schubert number forty five inside linebacker. I said that a lot of players will probably get the night off. I don't think he's one of them. I don't think bush is one of them either. They might only play a few series. But i think the joe sherbert is someone to keep your eye on his communication his overall ability. I was stunned the other day when he did is he had. Immediate availability wasn't even post game. But he talked about helen jacksonville. They don't tackle at all unless it's a preseason game maybe this is the new norm and the nfl. But i'll tell you what the pittsburgh steelers do not abide by that rule. They tackle a lot and i know. Several people have gone to training camp. Whether it's at heinz field or whether it's at saint vincent college and said the steelers are the most physical training camp that they've seen so joe sherbert. Kind of get reacclimated. Here brother you gotta get in their number forty five. Keep an eye on him next. Justin lane my boy. Justin lane lust and jane. Is we call them on the steelers preview after my or our little twitter beef that we had last season but just in lane has been getting around the football. That is important. He's been making plays in the ball. He had a good interception at practice is one of the last ones at heinz field. Had an interception in philadelphia was close to another pick against detroit. As i watched that game if he continues on this path and as much as i couldn't stand the guy last year for him coming at me on twitter for just commenting on a play if if he could turn out to be a third round quarterback cornerback that actually plays well and plays a lot. I be ecstatic ecstatic. But you know what i think. He has a ways to go but he's going to get a lot of playing time. Let's see how he does. Let's also keep in mind with all these players all of them. Offense stevens doesn't matter. The reports are is a carolina are going up. They're going to play their starters and they're going to play them. They might use this as their final dress rehearsal. So someone like justin lane. Someone like you know. Joe schober even going back to the offensive side with the offensive line. They're going to be going up against starters. This is not gonna be your typical last. Preseason finale empty benches type game. keep that in mind all right. The next the third player to watch and defense. James peer number. Forty two cornerback..

"Editor. Dave scofield and we're ready to go special teams set up. I talked a little bit about it in the first half. But i really wanted to look at some of the numbers from last week's game i but i'm going to look at not. Just this past week gonna look at the entire preseason so far for the steelers all three games and who has stood out the most on special teams. I'm just going to give you the numbers on wanna break down. I will tell you that. I am using pro football. Focus that has these snaps and everything else for these players and tackles and those kinds of stats. I mean they don't actually have a lot of stats. They that's just what they have so they also going to have their grades. And i'll give you. They're great it's up to you if you are okay with the pro. Football focus grades or not. I understand a lot of people were skeptical. I'm skeptical at times but it does sometimes make me think about. Did i see what i think i saw. You know i. I can't believe what i just saw. Sorry i couldn't help myself there so let's look first at the snap counts now. These are on special teams. This is kick return kick coverage does on kickoffs punt return punt coverage feel gold block which defending the field goals and field goal kicks. That's the six places. The six different special teams that players could get on the field. The player who has played the most special team snaps so far. This preseason is edge. Rusher jamir jones and he's really making a case to make this fifty three man roster based on special teams play he. He's been on five five kick returns. Snaps ten kick cupboard snaps. That's a big one kick coverage k. Six punt returns nine punt coverage eight field goal blocks. He hasn't been on the field goal team. Which doesn't surprise me because that's mainly a lot of guys are just. You're either snapping blocking holden or kickin. That's all you doing on the field goal team. So he's got the most snapped and he's only got one more special teams snap then. Seventh round draft pick safety. Traynor would yes three seven snaps kind of a similar breakdown. He's not on the field goal team He's got an a. you know. Eight kick returns snaps the ten kick coverage just like jones. Six punt returns like john's. He's only got four punt coverage but he's got he's apple. The field goal blocked him. He has nine nine snaps their. Okay i will tell you that. Jamir jones also is leading. The steelers in special teams tackles this this year because he has three so low in one assists was just attack on special teams. So but trae traynor would has a lot of snaps. Doesn't have any tackles can so. Let's just keep keep rolling to. I'm not going to go through a team by team or your specialty by special team with with everyone. I just want to do that for the guys at the top because the third most snaps unsurprisingly goes to buddy johnson fourth round draft. Pick inside linebacker and same kind of deal. He's not on the fuel go kick team. But he's kind of spread out pretty evenly with those with those other special teams. There's there's five total players that have had thirty special team snapshot more are said jamir jones with thirty eight. Norwood with thirty seven buddy. John's with thirty four then. It goes you list gilbert the third with thirty one and mark gilbert with thirty. I'm telling you. I think that's significant because a lot of people are like. Oh mark gilbert secure brown mark gilbert. You brown can. They both make the roster can make the roster. I'll be honest right now. I have gilbert ahead of brown. Because i think he's you saw why he might have been a very high draft pick before he suffered his injury while he was at duke. That cost him basically two years. Well it was the hip injury the first year then. He had the ankle injury the next year. So if he's back and find from injury he showing what he can do either way. I think these guys are definitely practice squad candidates if they don't end up crab somebody else. But if you're looking at those two comparatively mark gilbert has thirty special team snaps to. I gotta find him here. Secure brown has eighteen so he has almost twice as many gilbert does so he's been playing more special teams then we have players like anthony johnson. The wide receiver. He's got twenty five special team snaps. Henry mondo getting a lot of special team snaps. Twenty four but eleven to them almost half of them or on our on the field goal kick field goal slats extra point kicking. Which doesn't surprise you. You know a lot of times. We'll get defensive lineman on that team as well. I know like kim hayward on the team at times you know quite a lot Then the next most naps also tied with twenty four. So it wasn't the next most is a is six draft. Quincy he rochet. Then you get into players with twenty two snaps. Carlos davis and kevin reiter than you get down to anthony mcfarland with twenty. And he's got it's interesting because he's got more kick coverage snaps than anyone. But i'm not a hundred percent sure that that's all exactly right because there was some issues because was it wasn't mcfarland was at donovan steiner. You know at times. But honestly i steiner has a lot as well so i've maybe maybe they did get it right so with that because it's interesting mcfarland has the most kicked covered snaps of anyone with eleven. Everyone else only asked him so really when you break it down if you look at some other key. Special teams players and their total snaps. Played a balaj. Cannibalized has nineteen. That's only in two games. Because he because he didn't play in the second game so that's that ones of note because he's got the most of anyone that only played two games. So if you look at that on average you know we can rounded down to eighteen rather than nineteen and say that he would have played another nine. And then there you go. He sitting there at twenty seven twenty eight snaps. So he'd be he'd be sitting there more towards the top already mentioned secure brown with his eight eighteen. Zach gentry mouth. Killebrew cassius marsh. All seventeen special teams snaps. Then you get into other players like presley arvin s. Sixteen he's really. He only has five punch. But he's got eleven holtz. That's the difference right there right now so then you get into some other players. It's really spread out from on with a lot of them with sixteen fifteen fourteen snaps so and then even get some of the offensive linemen because of so much of the of the field goal team so those are the main ones that are standing out. There's a few of them that i'm surprised. See more on on special teams you know like for example Cody white the wide receiver. He has five special team snaps. Still trying to find the. There's matthew sex and he has seven special teams snaps. You've got the two punt returns and you know were actually returned the ball but he's only got seven special teams naps. And he's another guy that maybe offer a ray recap ray ray mcleod for the fifth wide receiver spot while he doesn't have a reception in the in the preseason so that makes it a little bit more difficult as he seems like you would be merely a return specialist. So that's where you're coming from a snaps standpoint now. Let's look at how these players well before we go to how they graded. Let's look at the tackles. Let's see who has the most tackles. Now i these are solo tackles and i'll see if i can throw in the assist whenever i can There's only three players that have more than one solo tackle on special teams there. Jamir jones with three. Anthony mcfarland with two and calvin bondage with two. Then you get into players. That had that had one but also had an assist like shaquille brown yuji. Three marcus allen. Then you get into some guys it just had one solo. Tackle like buddy johnson Henry mondo kaelin balaj justin lane mark gilbert and arthur. Let those are. The special teams tackles that is also something to look at. Let's also look at real quick. How many players have have notched a missed tackle. According to pro.

mark gilbert jamir jones Dave scofield Jamir jones steelers gilbert buddy johnson trae traynor brown mark gilbert brown Henry mondo Anthony mcfarland Traynor kim hayward Carlos davis kevin reiter mcfarland donovan steiner holden anthony johnson

"That i'm responsible for every day that the steelers practice where there's updates especially when there's fans in the stands we get so much more updates just because the reporters are allowed to say more than i then put a tracker. I put the the show in from steelers live that kicks off training camp. It's in the article whenever training camp practices done and they have their wrap up show. That goes at the end on putting all kinds of information in tweets in this article. Too basically where it could be your one stop shop for practice that day where you could go in and see exactly what's going on. I updated every few minutes on. It's a lot of work to stay on top of it. But i do it for you all and then also we turn around and give you this podcast as well for those people that are that listening on the podcast side but might not check out the website so we have all the information that we can get and today was a very interesting when it came to information. So i'll get to that. But i will say that. The steelers were back and surprisingly in pads. Today i know jeff said on yesterday's recap that he assumed that that was probably the last day in pads for the steelers but they were out there in pads again today. And if. I were to estimate why. I think that happened. It's because the steelers are trying to emulate an actual week. Even though the is on thursday and not the typical sunday and that is the came off there off on sunday. They went padded practice padded practice. Monday and tuesday tomorrow. Wednesday is what will soon as a non padded practice and it's not open to the public and then the steelers will travel to canton to be ready for the game. I'm pretty sure they are going to travel on. Wednesday and thursday have not seen an official report. But that's generally the the way things work in the nfl and with it being a night game they might do a walk through that morning or something so in order to try to make sure that players are figuring how to how a game would work a game leak would be. I think that's why they went with back-to-back padded practices. Now jeff will be back for the next recap. It's probably not going to be until saturday. Because like i said it's practices not open to the public wednesday thursday the hall of fame game fridays off day. I'm fairly certain. It will be back on saturday unless something changes with that schedule but it was very interesting today because there was not a lot of reports coming at the beginning of practice when the steelers took the field at approximately one thirty this afternoon and that was because art rooney the second was speaking to a group of the media at that time so therefore a lot of the reporters who would generally be telling us. Who's practicing who's not draft things of that nature. It took a while until that information started to come out because these reporters were still in in an interview with team. President art rooney. The second mike. Thomas had done his interview already. He did his typical tomlin tuesday at noon. A regular sit down press conference. That was really nice to see in here. And we have information on that at not only at behind the soccer curtain dot com but also the the post what i'd say the press conference wrap up or or however you wanna say i can't remember how it's phrased that jeff did earlier on our podcast platform. Hopefully you've already checked that out. But as they got doing with practice today it was. It was very interesting to see who wasn't wasn't practicing i. The steelers added a player to their roster. Just before practice it was announced. And that was running back. Tony brooks james if that means sounds familiar. It's because he spent time with the steelers in two thousand nineteen he appeared in three games had a handful of carries. I think it was seven carries for eight yards. Something like that. If i recall from reading that article earlier today he also ran ran back. Two kickoffs He was just three games with the steelers and then he was off again but he he was released last week by the atlanta falcons. So they brought him in and part of the reason that he was brought in might have been because for the second straight day. No benny snell. Not even that he was out there getting work in. But just wasn't you know fully dressed. He was not seen on the field for the last two days. Additionally neither was anthony mcfarland junior who apparently came up a little bit limp at the end of practice on monday so it makes sense that they might have brought in another running back. And then we're going to hear a little bit more about the running back situation as we progress through this other players that were not dressing once again. T. j. watt was doing his normal whatever. He's been doing where he's been working outta practicing at practice. But not actually practicing. With the team eric hebron once again missed practice. Zach gentry and ray ray mc lap. Sorry ray ray mcleod were also not practicing but on the on the good news zack. Banner was in pads again today and he did start off and the seven shots according to rafit a powder of the of the pittsburgh post gazette who said zach banners lining up at right tackle for seven shots. Dan more still at left tackle to that. Was the report coming out It's kind of funny because one tweet. I came across today. That that i actually got a kick out of was mark. Kabali says. let me describe a training camp practice for you. Drill drill drill stretch drill drill drill seven shots drills football plays drill drill drill that was remarkably of the atlantic. I got a kick out of that because it sounds like. That's really how things are going. The very first play of seven shots. That is as jeff said. Many times with offense gets seven. Tries from the two yard line. Defense is lineup to stop them. It's basically a two point conversion and it's who can win the most on the very first one unfortunately ben rothlisberger through an interception. Who did he throw to none other than outside linebacker. Alex highsmith okay. Then this starting offense bounces back with two touchdowns from ben rothlisberger after that wanted chianti johnson and wanna pat fair youth k There was conflicting reports on whether or not mason rudolph unit was one for two are over to some said. It was one for two sums. It was over two. And that's gonna make a big difference on who won seven shots the offense the defense but just had some conflicting reports there. but were they. What were the word. Conflicting reports was dwayne haskins. Had the last two shots and they went one for two with the final play being an interception by undrafted free agent market gilbert to finish up seven shots so according to most that was that the defense when the seven shots Still didn't get exact clarity on on the rudolf situations Bryan back. Go another one from the pittsburgh post gazette. He he said on twitter chase clayton. We'll just loves owning guys in one on one drills the other day he pancake justin lane at a blocking period. Now he just put traynor norwood on the ground with a stiff arm..

"Zach gentry is really turning heads early in the steelers training camp to be exciting to see what he can do. When the actual bullet start flying so to speak on thursday night now cam hayward on saturday. He was the recipient of a najji harris shakedown. He had broken. Through the line of scrimmage. Niger years made a mis- he wasn't going to let that happen again. This is according to brian. Bad kill as the steelers go to their full contact team. Run drill joe higgs back with the first team offense of right. Tackle the pool. Deck banner out ben rothlisberger just dare water in a wheel real route off. Play action while lined up as the f. In matt candidate scheme. that's a fullback. Made a nice catch down the field back. You thought the steelers offensive line did a great a better job run. Blocking kim hayward wasn't about to miss nausea years and the whole again like he did saturday he got to him today. Brought him down with authority and kindly of course nice birds by kaelin bala jr and jalen emails. Who returned to practice on. Monday jujubes misused. You're all off season. Had been talking about and matt canada's offense. He plans on being on the outside more. Well he finally got his wish. He keeps lobbying for more reps on the outside. He beat joe. Haden off the line of scrimmage rothlisberger hidden for a big gain. And it's gonna be tough to get him back into the slot after a big play like that the dust up so the scuffles continue. And for some reason. My goodness it's these rookies and came hayward according to brook prior. Espn cam hayward just got into it. With a pair of offensive lineman kendra green and dan moore. Junior who blocked through the whistle. Hayward wasn't a fan again. I've said it a million times. This isn't the first scuffle between more and hayward kendrick green got into today. They're trying to make a name for themselves. Hayward's not a fan. That's sometimes it's just the way the cookie crumbles as they say it with benny snow away. Kayla mbala jr was starting to make some place. Brian bad reports on a day with no sign of any snell. It's dealers practice ballots. Just another had another nice day spitting away from attack on the backfield. Mike tomlin yells. Good run k b. That's how you know it was a nice play speaking of the aggressiveness. Brook prior rights after ten days of practice. I can't tell you if the offense line will be quote unquote good quite yet. But i can tell you. They will definitely have an edge. This is one of those situations where it's always heard from adrian. Klemm all off season is being aggressive being physical and it seems like this is exactly what we're seeing. Now it's coming to fruition. They might not be the most technically sound but they might just have some nasty to them. And that's not necessarily a bad thing. Pat farms continues awhile practice. He had a really nice catch from ben rothlisberger in the seven on seven session. He seems to have the magnet gloves. I mean my gosh is they catches everything thrown his way in for those. That are still concerned about ben. Rothlisberger de passes prior rights. Ben rothlisberger just hit deonte johnson deep down the field. The pass was probably probably travelled about thirty five yards in the air. The crowd really liked it. he didn't also hit. James washington on the sideline step out of bounds for a deep throw after that. So it seems like my goodness ben rothlisberger deep passes older breath might be okay in twenty. Twenty one rico. Bussey who made a name for himself on. Saturday had another good day on monday. Met at one handed catch made it look easy on a passenger plane. Haskins the players on the sideline love. Did you heard some people. You'll a rico after the play. Good to see a young player making a name for himself. Let's see what he can do when we're talking about actual preseason snaps and repetitions. The goal line drill. That's the biggest drill. They run on some circumstances. Where really physical coach tomlin said. He felt like the offensive line answered. The bell on the goal line drill said. They did largely what they needed to do. Zach banner was a big part of that. All right folks that about does it for this training camp. Recap podcasters a lot of news again. We will be back tomorrow tuesday. They'll be the last training camp.

"Two receivers they have listed or deontay johnson and you just misused her then the next up sorry three waters was almost give chase klay poll the three wide receivers start so it's johnson chase klay poll juju smith schuster. So i don't know exactly. They didn't designate any one of them being inside outside how they would do it. So it's very difficult to tell their but those were the three then. They had james washington behind the andre. Johnson he was with the second group with ray. Ray mcleod and cody white. Then the third group was rico. I think it's seattle tickets bussey. I'm not sure. But that's whichever one it is. Isaiah mccoy and anthony johnson and then the fourth on the list was matthew sexton and tyler simmons so those are the wide receivers. Lots of everything spread out there. They we'll go after wide. Receivers will go to tight end. They only listed one and the order they went was first eric braun. Second pat firm. Uth doesn't surprise anybody. They're the only thing that's really interesting. Harris who was third and steelers had zach. Gentry's third kevin raiders fourth dax. Raymond is fifth. So that's the tight end running back to no one's surprise nausea harris's i he's listed as the first running back then. The order goes what they're starting off with is then it goes snell junior anthony mcfarland junior jalen samuels kaylin balaj. Now if you've noticed someone's missing from that list you're like wait. I thought i thought that was a six to one. There is now trae edmonds. He's actually listed as the second player on the depth chart at fullback behind. Eric watt now that simply could have been that they didn't really want to go out to a six level at running back but also you have to remember. That treatments did play some fullback. When derek wall was injured last year not a lot but then again there. What didn't play a lot. Either in the steelers offense. So that's interesting. Let's go to the offensive line because we're gonna we're going to save the big one for last offensive line for the five spots. Were pretty much. We knew what they were going to be. Left tackle was chew chor. Four left guard kevin dodson right tackle zach banner. Right guard trae turner. What's really interesting for. The steelers is at center. They have jc hassen hours. The first team kendrick green is the second team and bj vinnie vinnie. Third in that group so chances are half an hour might be the name there because he started games for the steelers last year at that position. I don't know but it is interesting that it was half an hour and not finney. That was up there. Now when it comes to be j finney. He actually is on this list twice because he's as the third string center and he's also listed as the as the second team left guard behind kevin dotson. So let's go through these position about position on the line and left tackle. It goes to core for dan moore chaz green of collins at left guard. It's kevin dotson. Bj finney brandon walton center. I already said about do it again. Jc hassen our kendrick green and bj. Finney right guard trae. Turner rashad coward. Anthony coyle right. Tackle zach banner. Joe hague john naghlu so those are the offensive line the way it sits right now so if you were to look at that and just merely for the guys during the first two groups there's ten different players they're the steelers will probably keep nine guys so that's probably the best way. Look at it now. Let's go the last position on offense one. You might be waiting for not because of the top. Because how it goes afterwards quarterback the list goes ben rothlisberger mason rudolph d'alene haskins joshua dobbs so if we were wondering i was one personally that i wasn't ready to put haskins ahead adopt until i saw him on the field the steelers they have haskins down there. It might just be based on what they're planning to do the first week or that could be where he really is. We will see when the season rolls around or as the preseason gets deeper. Now let's go ahead and jump into the defense trying to keep this shortest possible. It's very interesting. How the steelers do the defensive line. They listed with three different positions defensive..

"Fairly certain very ferry fairly. I guess that's a good way to say it or not that you know the steelers are not looking to have an you know someone who would even bump ahead of alex minutes unless there was a problem after scenes went on. You know. put that he's gonna come into camp d day one he's going to be that guy opposite at c. j. What so you've got to see if if increments that i mean that's not. It's not a big characteristic thing for the steelers to bring in someone you know. At his age he's thirty two. You know at this point of his career on a really on a big deal. It sounds more like a smaller contract. Possibly just one year. You know veteran minimum or or small two year to year. Deal where you can push some of the money into the second year things like that. It's just really interesting. I don't really know what they're going to do that. But i mean you say about. He had the injury struggles. Did have a four year stretch from twenty fifteen to two thousand eighteen where he didn't miss a game. Yeah it i mean so. It was early in his career and then it and then it was the last couple seasons where he struggled with that. So it really league is gonna come down to. Is he going to to be willing to do what the steelers want him for. That's what to me. That's that's the alternate thing right so we're going to spend it on a ton of time on this. That's not what the main crux of this podcast is all about. We're trying to get you ready for training. Camp if melvin ingram or someone else is a part of that but that's great if not worry we're going to plough ahead as if he's not we'll put it that way. And we are going to be predicting the fifty three man roster pre-training cabinet david. I've done this periodically throughout the off season. We did it before we and then we did it after the draft did it after free agency and here we go before training camp litho lead up. We're gonna go through. The offense and defense will do offense in the first break. I don't think there's as many questions in terms of the fifty three in the on the on the offensive side. That i could be wrong. And then we'll get a defense and special teams in the second half to round out the show. So dave. are you ready. I am ready all right so this this article will be running later in the week in will attach the podcast to it as well. But let's look at the quarterback position We all know the depth chart. Datum let you go first In who do you have making the fifty three men roster of the quarterback position. How many players in. Who are those players. Well i've. I've got the typical three quarterbacks and i have of course. Btr benjamin tundras burger mason. Rudolph is the number two. And i might not be the most popular opinion. But i have josh. Dobbs is my number three. Because that's who's going to be there until i see something otherwise to make me change my mind ends. It's what we're going to do here is. I'm gonna then say if. I agree with dave or disagree dave and in this case i do disagree with one of those players. I have rothlisburger. Rudolph is one too. I have dwane haskins making the team in. I know that. There's it's a very low risk Dwayne haskins we all know that but we know that joshua dobbs can play but we also know that joshua is a player that was traded last season so he wasn't even valued enough to keep him on the roster twain haskins e bring him in barring him completely falling flat on his face which could happen by the way in the preseason i think twain haskins makes the team. Maybe they trade joshua dobbs again. I'm not sure it depends on what else is out there but so we both have three players. You have dobbs. Let's go to running back dave. You have running back. i have them going with keeping. It's funny keeping quote unquote extra whether they even had more than this in the past. They've gone with this few three. I have them with four. I've got the the obvious nausea harris. I do have benny snell junior. Anthony mcfarland and jalen samuels. Because once again i i kind of put the kaelin balaj into the same boat as dwayne askins that he's going to have to knock somebody else out of there. I saw until. I can really see what he can do. I'm not a mud. Put that kind of expectations on. I have the same for megan a team. But i feel like one of the training camp battles that maybe no one's talking about too much because it's all about secondary stuff we're talking. Special teams. Players is jalen simmons versus ballad. Daniels has a connection with canada. We know their time at. Nc state dallas has was one of those players. do you take this for what it's worth but in during. Ta's enduring mandatory minicamp. He was the attention of reporters. Will one of the reasons was that the running back drills always done right below where the reporters were standing and watching them work out into. They had an up. Close personal look at balance in what he was able to do. Several writers were really high on balance. I could see him. Maybe making the team. I don't know if it's going to be an impact player. If he's even gonna helmet on game days does he play special teams. That's a big question. But i agree with david. I think those four harris snell mcfarland and of the ones that make the team fullback. Let's not even waste our time. Derek watts guy is going to win it and let's go to wide receiver. David you have a wide receiver. I've got the same five that they finished the year with an play. The entire season with last year of juice misused deontay johnson chase klay pool james washington and ray club. I have the same five and again like i said. I didn't think there was a there. Were many unless there's an injury and i don't even know who would even draft a wide receiver this year so i don't even know if they were to change anything you know. This guy's going to unseat. Ray mcleod who that guy would be. They don't have a ryan switzer type so in terms of wide receivers. I think this is the group. This is the group and it's just a matter of can they perform and can they stay healthy. Let's go to tight end. This is an interesting position here. Go ahead oh tight end i. I made a change from this earlier. I'm really torn. I think this could be one of the more interesting camp battles. I have them keeping three. I haven't been eric. Hebron pat fair move. At first i had kevin reiter now. I'm back to think it may be the wanna around with zach gentry again Mainly because i think raiders and easier to get on the practice squad. If you know what i mean but i think they could put they wanted to. They could even go with two here and put both those guys on the practice squad. So i'm going to be flip in those guys. Probably all preseason based on how they're playing originally with raider because he does offer special teams play so much so he played in the playoff game last year. But then the more out of. I'm like well. Zen gentry did lose his job because of injury and sealers are with. When when you get injured they don't like to lose. Lose your spot that's usually. Nc's it not between seasons right but so therefore you can flip a coin right now with either one of these guys really gonna come out of the preseason.

"Well, he's lying. We need to get more Republic. Maury Povich is Maury Povich. These the put Dave Gettleman owned a lie detector, and is going to say that lie detector says that you're lying. That's not true. Listen, what's crazy is? He doesn't have to prove anything to anyone like he doesn't OAS an explanation which I think he said off season. I don't have to get up here. An answer your guy's questions, which he doesn't it wasn't going to be buffalo. Right. Because they drafted a quarterback last year. It wasn't going to be Jacksonville. Because Jacksonville got Nick foes in that they said is not going to be a Washington, then who was going to be Dave listen, I already told you all of this week last week. He. Jack Nicholson Jack Newson didn't lie on a deported. The people he did whatever the heck he wanted and he lived life. And so for me is just it's thinks on be honest. Greenie, the whole thing around it smells funny to me. And it's not good because he knows he messed up. Right. He thought that this was going to go over and people were going to be okay with it. And he wasn't going to be questioned about it. Because that was his guy all you need to say at the UC, Pat Shurmur sit up there. He gave pet shirl over by the pig was so bad. Pat Shurmur was so destroyed knowing he's gonna lose his job because you drafted Daniel Joe's the man had an over by any didn't have one last season. And so for me when I look at this pig when I look at the way, Pat Shurmur is literally right now he's thinking to himself. I losing my job the mayor has over by this may coaching league forever. He's had braces Envisat live. We've got his jaw broken and fix and all of a sudden he has over by because. They've made a terrible pick, and he just will own it own it big Gettleman say I've made the pick because he was my guy identified my quarterback. I'm happy I have him. But he can't say that because it's a lie. Greenie, stop lying to the people. I don't even want to move to something else. I'm enjoying this much. But let's get to the Steelers your former team. Okay. Because now we can see the exact return. They got the Tonio Brown trade. Right. So they got a three and a five four AB those picks from Oakland. And here's what they got. They took Toledo's Deontay Johnson. Who was the first MAC wide receiver? The Steelers drafted since Antonio and then with the fifth rounder. They took Zach gentry who is a titan out of Michigan. So how would you say how would you assess that trade now that I guess we see it? And it's so talent over the last six years. Tonio Brown is the most prolific statistical wide receiver of all time. You're not going to replace him with the third and a fifth rounder. And we knew that when the trade was made we all. Knew that it wasn't enough compensation for Antonio Brown. The player, but getting rid of rid of Tonio round the person as Mike Tomlin say to this week in the trae window. It was cleanse. Right. He said it was a Clinton's. If you will. He also said at the owners meeting it's about having good people in our locker room. And I think the movie was more important for that reason than it is for the title of compensation you get in return for Tonio. Well, so I mean think about it again think about what you're hearing these teams saying, Pittsburgh, they're saying it's a Clinton to get rid of Antonio Brown in New York when asked if they had a culture problem the answer more about Odell, but has any team ever lost more talent than the Steelers did this off season and got less in return Leno belt might be the best one anybody's golden might be the best receiver. Absolutely not for the Pittsburgh Steelers. When you look at the talent that they've lost. A definitely didn't get in return..

"And so then he flew out and visited my house with coach fish, it's time. Yeah. Put some mini golf, and then I float here three or four days after that. And I just fell in love with the campus and the facilities and committed on the visit would you see when you first saw them on tape, and then obviously going through the process to at the time is December thirty first I got hired and within a couple of days on the job realized that we needed a quarterback. And I started reaching out to all the top quarterbacks that we're in that class sex gentry was one of them and other guys were Sam darnold who was committed. The USC. Also, Ricky town was also committed the USC at the time. So I thought two of those quarterbacks don't both need to go to to USC so talk to both of them and also talked to Tommy Stevens from Indianapolis who ended up going to Penn State. I talked to drew lock, and I talked to Joe boroughs and Zach gentry and Zach ended up having interest. And as a matter of fact the day. Okay. We call them. I think he told us that he was had decommitted from Texas or was just about to. So literally the next day jet fish, and I flew out to Albuquerque met with. Zack in the family play. Putt putt golf. We had. We're going to go to a movie there was a good movie. That was American sniper. Yeah. It was just out. And I'm like, hey champ. We should go. See this this new American sniper movie? And and he wanted to Zach wanted to and you hear it said and seen it either. But the thing was sold out when we sold just get just came out. Zack said, let's go. Gentry and Albuquerque couldn't find a way to get. Didn't want to leverage. We had a nice putt. Putt gone. Competitive nature. Get a guy out on a putt putt. Course, you can see little a competitive nature and the other side of a student athlete in general just to see their personality when you get out there. Other thing we did was we we bolt one time. I remember on your fish. Visit nobody throws a harder. Bowling this yet. One of those four bouncers Downer. It's not about it's a real. It's not about sir has no arc or no curve. It's the straightest ball you've ever seen and the hardest fast. I mean, the pins. He when he hits right? They'd get a strike every. Seven ten years ago. Let me ask you. Let me ask you a question. You know, you come as a quarterback, and you I know how recruiting goes quarterback if you were to state another year, we would have we would have had a tight end pass in for you. We would have gone. Got a while you get that call or one hundred come about that move from quarterback too tight end in in the program here in Michigan. How'd it all come about? And what was the thought process? Well, I mean, I think it just came down to it was just better for my body type. And better for me. Personally. I'm in coach Harbaugh had me run some routes freshman year. I know we had a it was BYU played against BYU freshman year. They had a tall receiver looked exactly like me on film..

"I mean, you're putting into a a eight overtime game seventy four seventy two. All kinds of sense. And but that he that he even on the radar. I haven't I haven't seen that or anyone even discuss it here. Haven't heard anybody discuss the overtime your way of doing it all him the overtime. You know, especially what are there were some of the other suggests next the chiefs. I'm not sure that one I heard two twenty five yard line. And the most of them say keep its way it is. But know, of course, Andy Reid to Kansas City. They this year in the in the playoff game. They they gave up the ball. They didn't win the toss. They went down toward a touchdown. They never got the ball. So he's the one that's really champion doing something. You know, where where it's more more fair how much fair can be than the continued. The game continue the game to them fall in an overtime like basketball this play the game and into you really even need overtime for regular season games. Do you need regular season games to have overtime? What do you think about hockey? They changed. How the do overtime. They do like four on four and then three on three and they've changed. So they changed the game. Right. And then it goes to a shootout. So it's not hockey version of it. But it's not the same like World Cup after they play their extra time. They go to penalty kicks in the World Cup, which makes no sense. But that's a skill competition. Trying to find the end of a game status continue to gain for ten minutes and regular season. If it's ties tie and the overtime. You just play it to get a winner. I mean, that's that's where you're gonna feel goal. I mean once you're playing the game guys on a ten yard line. He just wants to kick a field goal to win the game. It's over in a tie game. Because that's where he he was able to position the team in in that situation. I'm with you. I'm with you continue the game. And instead sudden death would be a lot of strategy citing strategy would would go into the kind of formula. You would with anyone asked me. And I don't know one's really asking me much. But if anyone asked me, that's that's the direction I'm going to go. And I don't know whether I should say it was Vic came up with the idea or you I I'll kind of work with that. And see which one I wonder us out there where you know. I mean you when did you hear it from Vic? Versus where did you hear it from me? Well, I think that takes care of that. Before we came here. We went to Albuquerque New Mexico where Zach gentry's from found out so much about his family. His grandfather fill one of the legendary coaches in all of New Mexico history. They say he's written a book and a book. It's just hilarious. Everybody's is coaching experience. But Randa Dominic Vermont as the football coach for the Duke city gladiators, it's a it's an arena football team. And I want you to know we had so much so much fun. We went to the game at ended up seventy two to twenty five but thirty five thousand fans there they played in a in a in an old it's called the kingly Coliseum. It has been built in about nineteen fifteen or nineteen twenty. You know, it has the pillars in their all around arena..

"Did you see this roller Horner Brooks, leaving Wisconsin? I did hear something about that. Yeah. I know that. I'm kind of following the really long over like one hundred seventy threat of like all the all the players as far as they're like, height weight, hand flies. The combine. Yeah. Which position groups are they doing right now. Obviously done quarterback. They've done kicker-punter already. They've you know, they've done running back. They listed Koran already. They had Jake. But earlier they announced Hannah. I'm sorry. Contract gentry. I'm sorry. I got my title mixed up because right after gentry they actually had delayed Haskins. And I think the one thing that surprised a lot of people was his weight. He's at two thirty one. Okay. I don't know if you know if that really means anything, but I mean, they they've kind of gone on with a whole bunch one of one of the ones that people have been noting had been Cuyler Murray as well too. But what was kind of moderate Murray's height? Five ten in the eighth. You gotta add that eighth. And apparently, I had no idea that that was what mattered Zach gentry, by the way, six eight and Nayef. Yup. Six eight that is a tall. So someone's gonna fall in love with Zach century. I think the thing that surprised me is the fact that Koran has got bigger hands than gentry though, too. Yeah. I don't I don't know if that means hand size. No, not a not a big deal. And I mean, it certainly doesn't hurt. But I think the big thing for gentry she'll be his forty time. Because if he's hustling at four five four six. He's probably a second day pick, which is incredible. Because he wasn't even then then suddenly it looks like a genius because it's like why is this guy playing quarterback? Yeah. Could have been tight end, by the way, his wingspan is exactly his height. Wingspan six wingspan conversation yesterday. Guys are nice catch radius. Caroline murray. By the way, his stats five ten in eighth to seven weights hand size nine and four eighths wingspan sixty nine and four eight what is the point of of knowing with his hands span is by the way. I mean other than a quarterback who needs to like grip the ball every play almost swimming. It might have to do with. I'm assuming it has to do with like I'm for wide receivers and position players like weapons for quarterbacks. Make sense. I guess, but I'm not sure they the one that people are kind of making fun of is is hunter Renfro who's got a seven and seven eighth hand size got small hands. Yeah, by okay. Yeah. The dude that is the age was wonder if Clemson. Still catching balls. I'm just surprised. They don't come out with what your foot sizes, and what your legs sizes, and what's your waist? Well that comes when you run down. Apparently, I keep remembering is that one offensive lineman that they were catching forty nine walkaway sloop look at look at the bubble. But also, there's more there's more to come. Charles Robinson is the guy from from from Yahoo that he keeps on tweeden out every single person Mary had a wind today. That's big for to be over five. Ten. Russell Wilson height. In weight. 'cause there is there is rumors that he was five nine maybe he was even attached shorter. No, one is really sure what is official height was going to be. So he probably knew I I would think but for him to be over five ten I think, you could I think you could make a case that that's worth about five million dollars just being half an inch taller. Well, the most recent mock draft I just saw like the number ten overall pick. So. You know, when he first announced he was going to play football. I thought maybe there's a chance that you could get them in the second round. And that would I would be happy around. But now, I mean, it's very clear that he's going to be a first round pick and no more power to them. Yeah. They they they are quoting was named Bob Quinn. And the at the at the combine that if the best player available is a tight end that they would plan on picking a tight end at the number eight spot. Title man, is that possible like that? They know for the best player available to be tight end. I can't I I don't know. How many times the best pillar available at number eight or tight end. I mean, I Don fairly we looked up. Yeah. Yeah. I mean it hardly ever case. I mean, it's kind of a waste of a pick pick tight end and number eight. I mean, I certainly understand that they need a tight end. But at number eight, it's not necessary. We did the math in the last nine years. The only team to draft tight ends in the top fifteen picks. Anchor might have been one or two exceptions Vernon Davis type, but it was lions me Brandon Pettigrew. Now, I will say you are you're talking on the radio was going on the sandwich run like the intern that I am. But you were you were saying they never draft pass rushers Nick fairly, Don Mcgann, sue and a couple of years. They haven't drafted pitcher needing a pass rusher. Dobkin? Sue was a was a good pick for them. Yeah. And so it was fairly and so as onset, but now they're all gone. So I mean, but that's just the cycle of of the NFL. I mean, you draft the guy in three years later, you're drafting the exact same position because you haven't compl- guide and develop the quarterback. If you follow quarterback being drafted in the NFL. It is the most fascinating studies you can do because of how many teams every like three or four years or drafting a new quarterback to be the guy for their future. And the Tom Brady's and Matt Ryan. Ryan and Aaron Rodgers so many tea so few teams are fortunate to have the same quarterback for more than like three or four years in a row. It's it's one of the greatest. I don't wanna see surprise. There's a lot of guys who've been starting for quarterback is probably I mean now, you're right, though, the Browns it's like every few years they have to draft somebody new, but the Rams aren't gonna have to draft anyone for a while the saints until breeze retires the pats until Brady retires. I mean, you can go to you could run down the list. A lot of teams have had the same quarterback for five plus years, but watch how it watch out cycles out because there's always somebody drafting a quarterback every couple of years, and it'll just repeat itself. Now, it may be that the Packers have a ten year run. But then then Aaron Rodgers will leave and the Packers will find themselves in a position where every four years drafted a new quarterback because they can't find the next Aaron Rodgers. So it's really special when you find a guy that you can hold onto four A five or eight year stretch because more often than not it's a position that is constantly being cycled through and trying to find a new guy. Why I mean look at the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jacksonville Jaguars thought a year ago that Blake Bortles was their future. And now they're already they're moving out from Blake Bortles Kansas City had Alex Smith. And then they drafted Pat Mahomes who probably was an MVP this season. Right. But like, Pat Mahomes will be there for a while by you think he's only got three years. No. I think he's I think he's the next guy. That's there for ten or something years. But for a long time they were trying to look at the Broncos the Broncos had this great run. And now the last couple of years how many times they drafted a quarterback to try to find their next guy. They're not drafting high enough that's their problem. But it's who was the big advocate from Memphis couple years ago. Paxton Paxton Lynch. Yeah. I mean, just you can go division by division. You know, there's this guy who's and you're right. It's probably about sixty forty. I'd say sixty percent teams have a quarterback that there. That's sustainable for a few years. At least. I mean, I think one of the few that is sustainable that is not a regular playoff team is the Detroit Lions, but. Amanda. Like go in Denver Denver's division. Raiders have Derek Carr. Chargers have Philip rivers. I can't remember who the fourth team in that division is chiefs have Mahomes chiefs. Yeah. You know, you go in the NFC north now cousins might. Not worth his money, but he's going to be their quarterback for fears. Mitch Trubisky Aaron Rodgers. And so it's really the lions probably have the the next team to use a first round pick on a quarterback. I mean, the, you know, the south you can do mariota. They like mariota. They like to John Watson, Andrew luck. And then just the Jaguars. So I I'd say it's I know what you mean. No, it's and it's like the same few teams. It's like the bills the Browns the box. Well, they've had Winston. Yeah. But they're all talking about getting new quarterback because Winston's ahead case. You're right. I guess that could be part of it. But he was a pro bowler. So Johnson a bills. Have gotta be like the case study new quarterbacks. Yeah. Yeah. I'd say so in the Brown Brown Baker twenty five starting quarterbacks in twenty years or whatever. Wow. That's incredible. Hey, Derek Lansing. How're you doing today? Derek? I'm doing well. Thanks for taking my call. You bet listening. Listening to yourself a week. I have to call in a couple of things I wanted to go over if you don't mind, sure. News the entity who is the worst signing. The tigers. Ten years fifteen years. By far. It's Joel Mason. I think that's what his name was from Johnathan. Oh, yeah. Here's sloppy. Joe? He's he blew the first couple of games and kept on thrown his teammates under the bus. I remember that. Yeah. He was bad. So this might be a misguided question. But. And I know it comes up a lot with as ever. Football team. But that's going through what it is. It's repertoire to move to a three or four or is that just kinda stupid saying he doesn't really know too, much helpful ball. Derek? I would say that there's a lot of times that they look like they're in a three four because they use. You know, they'll they will use that outside linebacker the Hudson as a pass rusher. They have stood up. You know in Ohio State game couple years back pay stood up taco Charlton the whole time. Now, I don't think he was ever dropping into coverage. But that's an interesting question. Would they ever do it? I don't know. I think a guy that has had a scheme for a long time probably sticks with the scheme that he knows the best. I agree. I was just wondering maybe it's the way to get you weren't athletes. Help out with over those crossing. You could do the the between stuff like. You know, he's someone that could do do both. I think you know, you're looking at really Danna probably could he's a little undersized six to round two fifty. So it's I bet the I bet the tinker that stuff in so. Yeah. Keep going dark say. No. I said more athletes on the field. You know, I don't I don't I don't go to a ball. Nicely as much as. Last year going right now, I guess. So. Yeah. Why do they ask me in the summer? I definitely would have said cool, and I think may need especially next year with the guys coming in. Seven. Our it. So they don't seem shooting guards. We do some bad coaching staff. Recruited the past couple of years. I don't know if it'd be watching what it really done anything to stay. Pool. Yeah. Yeah. Pressure the phone call Derrick and the question was if an and we can certainly get into it..

"And we we both kind of realized that even dating back to when we were younger playing the video games on like, PlayStation, PlayStation, two back to whenever you could start doing the recruiting classes I used to simulate the games to get to the weekly recruiting stuff and do the recruiting stuff in the offs. Like, I love I just loved it. And when I coached albeit at a very low level, it's just the idea of identifying and finding pieces to plug in. So I think there's something about just the way different people are wired that they can't get enough. Like my dad is a diehard Michigan fan. I don't know if he ever reads myself, I don't think he's just not that super crazy into recruiting. And so I think it's just it's something that you're either into or you're not an I don't think I've been doing it long enough to really see a huge huge change. I mean when I started doing it that was kind of when social media really started to explode. I mean Twitter has been around for. I don't know. How long has Twitter been around? Since I started. I started using Twitter a lot in probably like two thousand eleven but I don't think it was nearly as big then even as it is now in terms of, you know, the kids tweeting out every little thing that happens with their offers and their visits, and their pictures and the graphics and all that stuff is probably within the last five years, but it just gets it just gets faster and more. And sooner you know, every year. I don't think there's any question about that anybody who pays attention? Sees that happening. How was it yesterday national signing day? This is the second year where they've had this this to the split where you could sign in the second week second Wednesday of December or the first ones there February. And last year we saw a lot of players. We saw a good portion of the class sign in December of two thousand seventeen but then there's still players left. The did in in chosen eighteen this year. It seemed like it was ninety percent of the players signed in December. And then very few or signing yesterday. How how was yesterday for you? Andy think? Defend like yesterday's waas its importance where they should just go to one signing day in December. I mean, it's almost that. Now like, you just said, I mean, the I put a message board post up about this kind of got some discussion going like the December signing period is not the early signing period. That's that's the sign in my opinion. I mean, that's obviously when I don't know what the number is. If it's seventy percent eighty percent. But I think it was somewhere in that range were signed eligible kids were signed in in the seventy to eighty percent range back in December. So I don't really know if it needs to go to one I don't really know if I mean is it really hurting anything to have to not really it's it's kinda strange how much it shifted when I when they first proposed this idea, I immediately thought of kids like eight and Hutchinson. For instance. I mean that kid the whole coaching staff at Michigan could have been let go and he's probably still coming to Michigan. That's the kind of kid I thought would use that early signing period to just I'm going to Michigan. I know that's where I'm going. It doesn't matter. What happens I'm signing done. Well, and we've seen it be very very different from that. Almost everybody signs early. I think a lot of them want to just get it over with and get it done. A lot of them are sick of the process by this point. But then there's some that still take it out to February. And some that still haven't signed even as of yesterday. So it wasn't. That was the intent was essentially just the players that that wanted to get over with that have been committed for a while could sign, but it was never supposed to be the coach is essentially pushing for every kid to be ready to go make their commitment and signed their lead of intent or we may not we don't have room for you after that type of thing. But that's essential. It's becoming two years. There's definitely been some cases of that. I think I think because there is an opportunity to get to get the kind of get the official work done. I mean, a kid being committed verbally really doesn't mean anything we all know that. So when a kid finally signs that letter. And even that's starting to we saw five star McCoy who signed with USC and enrolled early and is now already at Texas. He transferred already. So my God. I mean, like I said things are getting sooner and quicker and faster. But anyway, it gives the coaches a chance to shift focus, you know, earlier. I mean in those two months make a difference of getting you know, like like, we just talked about the eighty or ninety offers out in the month of January or whatever it was. Now if Michigan is still trying to sign twenty five kids up until yesterday. Maybe they're not out on the road as much seeing those twenty twenty kids those twenty twenty one kids and given all those new offers out, so yeah, I mean, I I don't know what the exact Genesis of the idea of creating the early signing period in December was, but it's clear that the coaches are that's across the country. Not just Michigan all coaches are trying to get as many kids signed in December as they can. So they can start shifting their focus to just a couple kids in February. And then the classes beyond the the younger kids all right with this recruiting class. I think they're seven or eight. Eight guys that have already enrolled at Michigan. The biggest one is probably Zach Chardonnay who now comes into focus because of Chris Evans. I you know, when when you look at this recurring class and Zach and our kind of joking about it. You know, does it address its needs. I mean every class nowadays addresses it's needs because you're you're signing two or three players at every position seemingly. But you know, how did you feel overall? It was ranked top ten according to the sites. How did you feel about Michigan's recruiting class that they've put a final bow on yesterday? I think it's really good top to bottom. I mean, there's some star power with five star dachshund hill and Christopher Hinton. There's some some needs that definitely needed to be addressed which like you said that that's the whole point of every classes geared towards Philly needs and plugging holes. But I think it's really complete when you look across. I mean, there's not really any position. That was missed you know, they got a they got the quarterback they wanted. They got a running back. They wanted several receivers of different types six offensive lineman five defensive lineman a couple of safety. Some versatile athlete guys. I mean, they really they really did hit everything and there's some really good players in there from top to bottom. There's some high floor guys that aren't very flashy. You know, a guy like Nolan rumour who's rated high. But I mean, he's an interior guard. He's gonna play guard or center Zach carpenters, another one another interior guy. But those guys are you kind of know what you're going to get with guys like that big strong interior guys. Then you've got some high upside guys to where you know, maybe there's a little boom bust with them. But then you've got some guys that look like can't MRs too. When you talk about the dachshund hills in the Chris sentence of the world. So I I it really does look very complete. I mean, it kind of you always think that when you see it I on paper and then in a couple of years like man, I can't believe that kid didn't pan out. I mean, you see that with every group, but it's really hard to look at this group and kind of try to find that kid. It really is to say like, you know, that kid might not quite be what they're looking for what they need. It's hard to pick. I wouldn't say it anyway. But it's hard to it's hard to find that when you look. At the group. Well, it's interesting to me is is this group in some ways, the talent that's coming in has to replace not the seniors that just laughed, but almost a little bit of the seniors that just left and part of the two thousand sixteen class because you've already lost. Rashawn Gary you've already lost Bush. You've already lost David long in. So you've already lost while. Yes, you Susan fifteen Zach gentry you've already lost some really key important players. And so you need to increase the talent. And did Michigan overall get more talented with this class? I think they got they got different talent. You we saw Michigan. Bring in a couple of receivers in this group that they hadn't really recruited before these athletes hypes the Giles Jackson the four he ended up being relabeled as a wide receiver but for most of his recruitment. He was an all purpose back, but he kind of did everything in highschool Mike sane refill who's on campus as one of the early enroll ease was listed as an athlete at a Massachusetts. He did everything in high school played quarterback receiver running back. Db returned kicks and punts. George Johnson almost exact same way. He's George Johnson the third and Mike sane russillo. So similar in one was from Florida and one was from Massachusetts. But they did like almost the exact same thing. Johnson was a little more of a fulltime quarterback in high school, but won't be that at Michigan. But they got some of these guys that we really haven't seen before when you think back to you know, a class or two ago where they brought in these big bodied receivers Donovan people's Jones. Nico Collins, Tariq black Oliver Martin a little smaller, but still more probably more put together than a couple of these guys. And that kind of speaks to the shift that we'd maybe see that we will maybe see in the offense with Josh Gad. He keeps tweeting, you know, speed in space and he wants to get the guys the ball for them to make plays. And those are the kind of in these guys were brought in before he was even there. But it kind of speaks to the big picture of maybe Jim Harbaugh's looking to do with the offense. And you know, it's hard to say if they if they got more Michigan's got talent. I mean they've had talents since Jim Harbaugh been here. I don't know if you can say, they got more talent just because this group, but I think those are. A couple of different guys. Especially those receivers that we really haven't seen before under Jim Harbaugh. Well, speaking of Josh Gaddis, and you get a chance to talk to these recruits. And so what is their level of excitement about working with Josh Gad has and have they told you express to you this idea that Josh Gad is a will be have the autonomy envy will be running a the type of offense that Michigan fans have been clamoring for for the last couple of years, it sure sounds like it. I mean, like, you know, we're not going to know until we know we're we're not gonna find out early. We all know that. Will there be a spring game this year? I don't know we saw that one. We saw that go by the wayside last year. So we won't really know until we know, but the recruits are certainly being told that that's going to be the case. And and Josh Gad is certainly seems to be pretty outspoken about what he plans to do. And what his intentions are. I know. Divi devil developing ten the three star wide receiver obesity. So an instinct kid who looked like a Michigan state lean for a long time is really really high on Michigan now after Gaddis being hired. He said he was blown away during a film session during junior day event a couple of weekends ago. Just Gaddis put on a film cut up of all the stuff. He's done a his different stops with his different receiving groups and what he intends to do at Michigan. You know, he used he used that. He used that term. I was blown away when I was watching the tape, and you know, that's you get some of these cliche answers. A lot of times when kids go on visits that seemed pretty strong that seems pretty legitimate. I know Josh Jackson was really excited when he met him for when he met Gaddis for the first time in person during this evaluation period a couple of weeks ago. So the right things are being said, you know, we'll see how it we'll see how it manifests itself on the field. But right now, it sounds like that's the direction things are going. All right. When we come back talking to brain, Brown and delivering dot com and rivals dot com. The rich get richer in football recruiting. Plus, how did the rest of the big ten do compared.

"I know our buddy Tony Pauline from draft analyst dot com highlighted Smith. As a guy that was going to enter the draft and was probably going to be the top tight end selected this is back in early October. So we'll see if that comes to fruition obviously, he's going to enter this draft. Jay stern from. Texas. I'm not really a shocker because you know, he had come in with wasn't really talked about coming into the year, but was really productive for JIMBO Fisher this season. So it seems like he's going to try and strike while the iron hot. There Isaac NADA from Georgia really really impressive. Every time. I've watched Georgia's kids made plays. I'm excited to study him Zach gentry from Michigan who had been pretty productive over the first half of the year big body kindergarten run a little bit. And then to hell warring from San Diego State didn't play football to his senior year of high school and intriguing player to watch as well. Bowlin. There was a couple of Penn State guys kinda mcgovern's a really good player. I picture him being second or third round. Ryan Bates interesting ver very versatile, so probably more like fifth sixth seventh for Bates. And then guys like Cody Ford, I saw Tony Pauline on Twitter had Joan Williams expect both those guys would be first round picks. And then Joon Taylor from Florida. Todd mcshay has in the first round as well. So definitely some big names are David Edwards from Wisconsin. Some people think is the best offensive lineman for the badgers and could be a late first round pick. I really like Michael Jordan from Ohio State who played center for them. This year was the left guard last year. So you're talking about a big kid who's pretty athletic and has position versatility even the size to play tackle as well. So Jordan, I think is a very intriguing player Eric McCoy from tech saying I just watched him over the weekend. Mccoy's a pretty good player. He got he has he's got some similarities to kind of like a poor man's Ryan Kelly who always. Has been very very good for the Indianapolis Colts. Since being a first round pick out of Alabama McCoy will be going to the senior bowl as well. It's a good group of offense of linemen that are starting to enter this draft and the underclassmen ranks some of the players polite. Joe Jackson sheriff Miller from Penn State. I think that was really much of a surprise..

"Do not have. It of magic tuned to know, the only I guess I could point to is just just blatant stubbornness. Maybe. Right. So our way or the highway we're gonna do it. How we do what we have done has worked for ten wins. And we've got Laura's number, and we can do it again. And we're going to continue to do it. And we're going to you know, worry, but Florida had other plans, they didn't you're not gonna believe us. You are not going to believe as you Buddhist. Pretty good for the better part of these last four years. You are not gonna believe this time. You better have a different plan or is going to get bad. They got bad. Yes. Yeah. And I just I just don't understand getting Chris Evans the ball one time in the receiving game. I don't understand going an entire quarter without throwing the ball at Niko Collins. I don't understand Zach gentry bouncing back. Having a good catch over the middle early on in the game shows off his hands Zack gentry getting one more targeted the rest of the game. Nick Eubanks getting one target total an entire game. Like, how do these things happen? Mike. Oh, I don't know. How does it help you? I don't know. Like, I know I have an answer for a lot of different things. But this is ridiculous. I have no idea. How this is even an option. Right. We talked about on the show when I was co hosting right? We talked about how I thought not only I wanted to see the that we as a fan base as people former players we have to see the offense the way we need to see the offense. And it wasn't even close. So I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I'll give Zach because you were there at the game Utah to the players you talk to the coaches afterwards. What was their explanation like was there? What were they were? They look at it and say, hey, we didn't execute today. I mean was there any part of them? It's like, you know, what maybe the game plan wasn't as good as we thought. It was going to be. So I think say was actually an he added more scheme toward neck. Year. But he kind of had some telling quotes, I think I wasn't there for Tariq. He is in the locker room, and apparently he kind of echoed this that you know, in the post Hague's in era. You're going to have to take some chances. It can't be a conservative offense because you've got guys like Niko Collins with this amazing catch radius. You've got someone like down to people's Jones who I mean straight up, you know, can you name five players that are more high potential playmakers in the big ten next year. No. Yeah. So it's it's you know. No. It's just one of those things he has got to get the ball. You know, twenty times a game. Probably you know, maybe we talked about that's kinda high. But if as you said sometimes some of these passes, if they're high efficiency, a run run play, you know, and so. Schaffhausen asked about the offense next year. He he basically listed the three receivers said get them in space. He was like oh. And then, you know, Chris Evans and Christian Turner again not as of right now, they're not belco running backs. They're they're more of your kind kind of dynamic types. I think it's the word that people use. So get them in space spread it out as far as I do think. There was something to be said. I know we talked to Ben Mason. He was kind of beating himself up for those two fullback runs that didn't work, and as you said that kind of didn't necessarily and the game. But it definitely changed the tone. 'cause I think Florida was completely on their heels at that point. So there was a little bit. And I think the offensive lineman had similar thoughts to say like, you know, push a little bit more on third and one run. And maybe maybe then you can open it up because the defense is is on the field longer. But it's the same stuff all had the same exact reaction in conversation last year the outback bowl. It's like, oh, we get to see what this offense can look like with a few extra weeks of preparation. Look the same. Well, fairness in all fairness, I think people were excited. About it. Because Brian Peters was coming back for the outback bowl and in two and a half quarters looked okay. And then the wheels came off. But it's just one of those things it's like in four years we have seen roughly the exact it'll change based on personnel and quarterback, but it's been roughly the exact same game plan. And I think I do wonder if you know Jim is looking at that Michigan Ohio state game thinking, maybe if we'd run it down the middle. Instead of you know, the incompletion or the interception. Team a better chance of winning. It's just it's just a philosophy thing. I think isn't going to change in in two weeks. I think it has to be tire off season. And I think to embarrassing losses. It has to be that. And if it's not that I don't know when it's gonna change which comes back to Devon. Okay. So they've just had to embarrassing losses. The the game planning was stubborn as you said yourself so give I mean does it change. Does it change in the off season? Do we see I mean, shape Patterson mentioned it, but you know, Jim Harbaugh really didn't say anything. Do we see a change today? And we've been talking about getting offensive coordinator, they've got an open position at wide receiver. Now, they might they did elevate the offense analysts, but they haven't officially named him pants and could move on. Like, you tell me as a fan here. How much optimism do you have things are going to change going forward? Well, we just better hope that that guy that just came from Georgia does not become eligible right away at Ohio State asking Lee Ed Haskins lease, and we gotta hope Haskins leads right? If we're going to stay the same way because we're going to beat everybody else. Right. The way we play is good enough to beat everybody else. Right. And we don't know what. Penn State has at quarterback right where they have some explosive got it comes out of nowhere. We don't know. I mean, they they had to play McSorley and a broken foot. So don't so we don't know yet. We don't know. But for the most part, we're going to be able to beat everybody right because everybody either they don't have the athletes their quarterback is an explosive enough or like, Wisconsin, they play the same exact bald we play and we're better at it. Right. But when we get to that game right in the Middle, East games all day games. Always going to be tough. Right. And we also have to play Notre Dame. Right. So now run into season we're going to beat everybody. Michigan state is going to be a toss up. We're probably gonna lose Notre Dame and have state if we stay the same. We can't do it gets that guy from. I mean, he he's allowed to play. I mean, I think he's probably one of the best quarterbacks in the country. Anything he only he didn't even really start for for joy last year. I think he's amazing. Right. And so has got to be tough. We are reminded leasing. And this guy comes right in. It's just like we won't have a chance to do anything unless we in a Rutgers game or Indiana game. We work on our game. Right. We have to work on the things that we aren't quite as good at. And that we haven't maybe not quite as good. But haven't proven to be good at right? Can we see four receivers quite can we not see two tiny as every single time? Right. All right. Can we see four bar seven great receivers on a food at the same time? Right. Can we run a go? And then maybe a hitch to get more quickly and in maybe run a deity. And then maybe to that. Right. Can we see maybe three passes in a row at some point during the season? And not when we are about to lose the game. Right. There's nothing wrong with throwing the ball three times in a row in. There's also nothing wrong. Run the ball three thousand row, but not when you continue to run the ball to no avail, and it's just not it's not working for you. You're interesting. I just can't understand how we can continue to play this way. If because what I say, I mean, I'm not a psychic or anything. But it's true Ohio State is going to be good next year. And if we don't have somebody that can make plays the quarterback position, which maybe I think we do after we have three guys they can. And if they're not used properly with the weapons that we had better, essentially, if we don't change they're going to be wasted three receivers that I think are probably some of the best. He was in ethnic is kind of. Well, we saw at LSU, right? Whereas although Beckham and Jarvis Landry and they want to run the ball the first and second down every single play. What what are you doing? Right. It's it's disappointing is very disappointing. Like, I will give anything to go and play with these three receivers. And not only these are there. They had like three or four others that are very very good. If they were to ever get tired. We'll be perfectly fine. I will give everything that I have except for my fiance. Tinkers on. I don't know if she, you know, she, you know, she chews up seven times or whatever. But I will give anything except for that one and a half things to play with these receivers. And we're just wasting them in nature. They're leaving their way too. Good. No reason for them to come back because we're not getting the ball anyway. And everybody's saying that when we're targeting we make plates every single time with limited opportunity, and that's going to be some NFL sees, and that's gonna be something that they relish an opportunity. Like, hey, these are going to be steals. Aren't we come back we'll finish up with Devin garner? We'll have our staff pick for tonight's game talk a little bit about the Michigan defense in the peach bowl. He's on fire right now. Folks, you want to keep listening? Oh, no. Hi, it's.
