Arctic air will blast much of US just before Christmas
"Get ready for an extra cold Christmas Arctic air will blast much of the U.S. just before the holiday. Forecasters are warning of treacherous holiday travel and life threatening cold for big parts of the nation. Below zero readings or likely an expected across the northern plains and portions of the upper Midwest, but even for locations down into the southeast, mid Atlantic temperatures dipping down into the single digits or teens. National weather service meteorologist Zach Taylor also says besides the Arctic blast, rain and snow are also in the forecast. Potential there for some heavy rainfall across the eastern U.S.. And on the colder side of the storm system, we're looking at a potential for a swath of locally heavy heavy snowfall somewhere across the Ohio valley and Great Lakes. And this is coming on the heels of the weather system that blew from the west last week across the country to the east, I'm Julie Walker

"And there has to be fuel from John Harbaugh, who's just been arguing with Marcus Peters two weeks ago about this exact decision. He has to show that he trusts his defense. He has to maintain that his role in the locker room with these guys, and sometimes that's bigger than the numbers. And it totally paid off. Of course, they went down the field, but let's look at the other side of that game too, where Zach Taylor is now receiving a ton of the blame pie for the slow start from the Bengals. And let's look at his goal line plays. He basically did a Philly special that lost them 20 yards. He ran into the line of scrimmage. He went for it on a fourth down, and didn't get it. It's like, you know, sometimes it's okay to be conservative and take the points and like, hey, defense. I trust you. You played really well. You bottled up Lamar Jackson in a way that's actually been pretty impressive to hold them under 30 points for the night. The numbers might bear itself out over time, but there has to be a deal aspect of this. If you don't have a field aspect of your players and your team, you're not a human being, what happened so we got to get back to stale at once at some point and figure out how we feel about that. Well, I don't think there's much to figure out. He should have punted it to my view. I mean, I don't care about that. I had a conversation, I guess, it doesn't matter. I don't have to include his name, but I had a conversation with really high level Theo a couple weeks ago. And I was just asking him what he what he learned in general about making decisions.

"Is Gary Klein, he covers the rams for the LA times, joins us from Cincinnati, where the joint practice was yesterday. How would you describe what happened, Gary, between Aaron Donald and the Cincinnati Bengals? You know, Dan, when these teams get together for joint practices, it always sounds like a great idea and that first day, everyone's enthusiastic, it's great to be going against an opponent other than your teammate. But when it gets to the second day, frustration sets in. And, you know, the Bengals talked about at least Zach Taylor talked about the Super Bowl was behind them. No hard feelings, but I got to believe, you know, after two days of having to go against Aaron Donald and the rams going against the Bengals, tempers flare. And Aaron Donald was in the middle of what was happening, but he was not the only one. There was punches thrown. People kicking people shoving, fortunately, at least as far as I know, no one was hurt, but there were helmet swinging and it was quite a scene that led to the end of practice. Any indication if the rams will take any disciplinary action against Aaron Donald. No. I would be stunned if the rams could any kind of disciplinary thing. Sean mcvay talks about you need to protect teammates, you need to, you know, you need to stand up for yourself. They are not going to find a player that they just gave a massive extension too. That's a leader of their team. In some way, I'm sure McVeigh came away from that with a little bit of, I don't want to say pride, but I'm sure he walked away with my guy stood up for each other and even though his attitude is nothing to see here. We forgotten about it in 30 seconds. Like I said, I'd be stunned, if anything happened to Aaron Donald. I know the NFL has told us this morning it's up to the teams, does the okay, what's the difference between Aaron Donald swinging helmets and miles Garrett doing something on national TV during the regular season?

"It's a tough line to walk. Do you think the league though overall has a officiating problem? Like, are you one of those people that's ready to truly call this a big issue? Yeah, I felt that way for years. I don't think, you know, it's funny to me with the officials. Through the first three quarters of that game, everybody, you know, on Twitter and the people and watching with the officials are staying out of it. I can't believe this. This is great. And then the officials insert themselves and everybody's like, I can't believe this happened. When you're spending the first 45 minute shocks that it's not happening. I want to go back to the coaching. You talked about the real quick. Yeah, Zach Taylor and a rough game. On top of that, can we stop pretending that McVeigh is some kind of innovator, some kind of new wage, whatever it is. He didn't coach great. He did not have a great game plan. And look, losing Beckham certainly hurt. But I just think overall I think overall, he was not great in that game. That is the play calling really until that last drive. Was incredibly uninspired. And again, I know they lost Beckham, but if McVeigh is this otherworldly coach, if he's supposedly the best coach in the league, which is what some people want you to believe, then he would with all that offensive talent, he would be able to overcome losing Odell Beckham instead of just constantly running the ball up the middle for a year and a half on every play. So ultimately he got the ring, he did. I'm not crowning. I said this after the Super Bowl in 2018. I'm not crowning Sean mcvay. I'm not crowning Sean mcvay. I still don't see what all of you people who are trying to convince me that he's special see. I got one. He had that one. I don't know if everybody figured it out. I don't know if he's necessarily the most special play collar that has ever walked this earth. I think a guy like Andy Reid's a better play caller than Sean mcvay is. But in terms of the structure of the way that they build their passing system in particular and then marry their passing system to their play action runs and their base runs, they have a very sound scheme. It's very complimentary and it's very difficult to defend because they have a lot of answers to things, right? When you do one thing, we have something else on the backside of this that we're going to be able to go to or we know that your safety. I think one of the best things that he does is he game plans compliments into his offense, right? So he knows your safety is going to do this. Your safety is going to rotate in the box and play robber. So we're going to high low them, right? We know what you're going to do with your defense..

"And when you add Brady, you could be down at halftime and feel it out and make the adjustments and come back out in the second half and blow doors. I don't know if you can do that anymore. It's a feel out game for them too. You're acting like it's only a feel out game one way. I think I'm acting that way because I think Cincinnati has more talent, especially my offense, right? So I feel like the feel out is maybe not as much of a factor because I think they have the better for that. Would feel that's more of a coaching thing, isn't it? And the Patriots have the better coach. They do. They do. That's the difference, right? I have a really tough time wrapping my head around Zach Taylor beating Bill Belichick in a playoff game. I can wrap my head around Joe burrow and Jamar Chase beating Bill Belichick in a playoff game. That coach, that defense is definitely way worse than buffalo's defense. So that's another angle to this. But I don't know. I just like the idea of the Patriots saying we did everything wrong in week 16 against buffalo. We're going to do everything right this time. Let's not forget. The patriot, that's arguably the Patriots worst game of the year. They played against the bills. Drop JC Jackson interception away from winning it. Right. I mean, Josh Allen, gate tried to give the get like the SpongeBob meme with ice cream. Take it, right? Josh Allen basically gave them that game and they gave it right back to him. So yeah, they can play their worst game. This is what I think people forget. People act like that was a blowout. Yeah. And yes, the bills played their best game of the year. And a couple of points. There's really one score game until late. Yeah. Yeah, that's the way I feel about it too. It's like, you were right there in the fourth quarter. And that was. They pitched a perfect game and you were still one nothing in the 9th inning, right? You know? So I feel like they were right there with them. I don't know. Bengals, it's no offense to our good friend Mike patagia. Not exactly a winning franchise, right? Not exactly known for winning in the playoffs, not exactly known for winning super bowls. So sure, there's a lot of angles Zach Taylor, all that kind of stuff. The bills, good football team, been there last year. They'd be a tough out to any of it would be fun. It's going to be fun regardless. I want no part of the colts. Oh, I know part of Kansas City. I don't think they can really play the cold. They play the cult at home. They wouldn't have they can't play the cults in India because they're not going to win the division. Their division. I want to know part of Kansas City. I didn't know thank you. I want no part of Kansas City. I want no prior to Tennessee. Those are the two best teams in the conference. Yeah. By the way, do you remember what my preseason Super Bowl pick was?.

"John's twitter account. But i mean still it was. It was bland borough The interception to t higgins it there was like no separation right and they got ta all they did take a shot earlier in the game ball. That was contested. Catch but t higgins is known as a contested catch guy. It was just a lot of good place from From a lot of good players but then those same players made at least one major miscue whether that was on defense or offense. And if we're focusing on zach taylor in the audience john just i guess i just have to say again your point year three communications. You shouldn't really be a problem getting yards getting points with the weapons that you have shouldn't really come at such a premium at this point. So let's compare week to week one. Because i don't think there was that big of difference in the overall plan in the skin scheme. The results were just better the bengals were penalised very often we to think they're penalize twice. They were very solid running. The football had like one hundred forty rushing yards on twenty or so carries the office still kind of land for a good part of that game like the punted. The ball verse three or four times is when they opened things up more towards the later part of the second half they like to. They like to capitalize on that. I think matt would like middle aged middlesex. Like last three minutes of the first half in the first three minutes of the second. That's when they started to get into urgency motive They threw the ball. Dietmar chase they started gets success on offense. They didn't really start. They didn't really have that urgency until they really forced to when burroughs the ball over and they really just had to start opening the building. The passing game up but it seems pretty clear this point that they don't want to expose borough that much on obvious passing situations and when he does drop back. It's in emptying. The ball is designed to get up quickly. And i understand the propensity or the the desire to facilitate the offense out of md. Because in theory it's supposed to negate a pass for second wind quickly by getting the ball out in giving your quarterback a ton of options to just. It's almost like an extension of the run game because the passing plays are designed to travel more than like five yards. So like if these quick plays that are supposed to just move the move Key out of second and third along situations or go keeping your quarterback out of obvious passing situations or he can get sacked. The problem is if defenses are expecting that and after one week of film. Bears had fresh tape to expect what was happening. And that's exactly what happened than they had the plan to stop it. And there is no counter from zack. Taylor so seems pretty obvious. At this point that they're still having constricted game plan to protect borough from getting hit more times than he's already going to get hit and it was just too late for them to carry. They didn't do anything until the fourth quarter and three biggest plays. The game came when they were down by multiple scores because the bears at that point like it was just it had to happen at some point right the bengals going to make some mistakes offense if they kept basically giving bears the bears. Chances to do so and borough mentioned in his press conference that those interceptions. He was kind of forcing things to happen because nothing was happening at that point so i think the biggest just now is that. If you're going to continue with this constricted game plan your urgency or your propensity to become origin has come a lot sooner than just the started. The fourth quarter the the other thing. That's frustrating about it. We can talk about what the deep all the deep ball. And where where was it okay. But it's not even just that. John you can still have some semblance of protecting joe borough from these hits in saxon all of that by doing and calling plays that are right in his wheelhouse which are intermediate throws. He was one of best intermediate. Throwers in twenty twenty. He had a couple of nice intermediate throws against the vikings. Those were basically nonexistent. I the one that really comes to mind..

"About the direction this franchise is headed because you can't head into another year of Zach Taylor. If you're ending this season going, Whoa, I don't. I don't know. There has to be a sense that it has kicked in the corner has been turned and watch out a F C North because Joe Burrow and Zach Taylor's Bengals have arrived that maybe something I'm only going to be identified by. I am not going to be able To look at it on the statute does that am I in the neighborhood of something that makes sense? You're absolutely or and just kind of bridge off of that. For me. It is. I think at some point in the season we need to be like This is a good team. We're just one defensive end away or we're you know, we're like one or two players right now. You couldn't say the last couple years like Oh, my God. We need like three offensive lineman. We need some pass rushers. We this we that We know all these things. If we get to the point where we're like We're like one or two guys away from being Really good. I think that's a good place to be and also say this and I don't know how to exactly define this either. But I would love for Starting in November. This team this seem to still be in the conversation. How many times in the last couple years where it's October and working. We're talking draft picks. Yes, selfishly, Lance. Yes. When? In west November, I want to be like, Well, you know a few things Go right here. This team could maybe find its way in the conversation. That is a great point and all related to the Reds because the most often quoted line to me doing Reds. Extra innings of light has been. It is so nice to have the Reds playing meaningful baseball in September. We need the equivalent of that with Bengals football in December, right? Just get me and at least get in the month of November is I hate We're one game back of the Ravens or whatever it is, I think to me even if they don't ultimately make the playoffs for it leads to be in the conversation late into the season. Yes, I think that goes very well. Now, I will say, and part of me wants to say I need to see a strong finished to feel good about this team. The way this schedule set up. It's gonna be. I mean, that's Tommy Final three Final four. Baltimore at home Kansas City at home at Cleveland for the final three that if they finish strong, they will have accomplished something because that's a tough stretch. And usually that's the one thing the Bangles always do to us right as they it's about what I call. There's no hope. Then they find a way to win, like two of the last 34 games and just enough to give us Okay next season. We're right there. I agreed Baltimore, Kansas City, Cleveland that those are going to be tall task. Maybe some of them will be locked in the playoffs already. I don't know, but I need this team to be competitive weekend and we count And I need to get into the second half of the season, at least being a part of the conversation, and you brought up a great point about being on the verge. Reese a man, They just need one more piece because the reality is rock. We talked earlier about the turnover on this roster. There's 23 players on this roster who have never taken a snap for the Bengals. There's 40 players on this roster who have arrived since 2019 that means there, Zack guys in there, Zach. Coaches, guys. They've identified pieces they want. This is the equivalent of the old Bill. Purcell's quote Zach Taylor and his staff have been able to shop for the groceries. Now they're preparing the meal. They had better prepare. Prepare a damn good meal, because if these are all their guys and they don't win with them, there's going to be somebody else bringing in their own guys next. Yeah, there's no excuse. So you can't say, um you know, we still got some of the last coaches. People in here and Not really How we want to do things that this is entirely his baby right now, and he's got to win. He's got to win early. We've talked about 100 times. But as tough as the latter part of the schedule is there is very winnable games.

"The off season was busy but quiet. It compared to some of the franchises around this league and zach taylor had a couple of years to to help mold the team in his vision. They've spent money in free agency. It's time to go in football games. And and i guess my question for you wrote about urgency's taylor talked about urgency. Simplify it and we make it about a win total. What's the minimum. What's the minimum this year that avoids any talk of coaching changes. Hot seats. any of that stuff. Either zach or significant members of the coaching staff is so tough to do it. Because you know you gotta say minimum assuming jober oh played stays healthy and plays every game. I mean that's yes. I'm not gonna count game backup quarterback if he played seventeen games. That's where we're going with the s. I think you you gotta be passing that. You gotta be around or passing vegas total. I mean you i mean. Then you're you're pointing to you. Know you got a point back the you but two four seven and some big wins in them and you you need to be in that five hundred you need to be in that mixed to make it feel like what it should feel with that roster and if you have joe borough yes you should be winning a lot of one more game you can increase a win total by three. That's probably yeah absolutely you should. You should be in that in that puts you playing what important games in december of which you have a lot of good teams that you're gonna be playing in your house and probably if you're relevant there in front of some pre pack stadiums. I'm gonna go to denver with mike shanahan when he took that job because they saw through such a similar lands in he ended up staying in san francisco but all the core things that kyle's build in that program on a lot of the things that i think we stand for. It's amazing how much influence that has on us. And how many realize what a small network of people it really is. 'cause that's really why i got a chance to interview with mike. And kyle was bruce. Allin brought my name up but then also when when my grandfather reached out to to coach shannahan he said hey i got a grandson and if nothing else you know. He said hey. Well if he's like yours if you're like him we'll go and bring in and let him compete for a job but like the amount of just layers in the different connections that we have. It's it's pretty eerie and it sounds like I ask for those things from the niners too and they didn't say yes that kyle. What the hell not kidding. You know what's funny though. Peter is his kyle. He they had done such a good job in atlanta. And you know this has been publicized or whatever. But in a lot of instances you almost get punished for doing well in the playoffs nowadays. Sure you know. And it's like the further you go because of the way that it's kind of structured the last thing that the carousel almost well. Yeah it's crazy. Because like i actually got some advantages because we lost and basically a play in game our last regular season game and so when you get hired while kyle it was semantics where he kind of knew he was going to be the niners head coach. But you couldn't officially announce it and he's focused on winning a super bowl. Well in the meantime what are we doing. We're putting together a staff. We're doing some things you're getting a chance to get. you know. Access the coaches that are looking for jobs. And it's amazing how that kind of played out where we both went through it at the same time but you realize like the success that they had in atlanta when he's doing his thing it it actually forces you to kinda start You know a little bit behind everybody. I saw the same thing with. Zach taylor a couple years ago in cincinnati and it but but to kyle's credit you know san fran that was their guy. They knew they wanted him and and he knew exactly what he wanted to. And i think you see that thing come to life with the vision and and why the ball's men writing san fran. The whole process was miserable and tough. I mean i went into a very open heaven for interviews because i grew up around the head and watched my dad and i just i knew i was so adamant that i wanna take take the wrong job And i'm just so glad that i felt that way about san francisco and they felt that way about me But of nine. It's not like the other three teams offer me So san francisco one enough or if wanted to vote that way. I wanna to jail and who knows what happens next year. You know. so that's why it's a tough league and that's why a lot of people you know as soon as you get that opportunity sometimes you never wanna look back because at opportunity doesn't always come again but i also there's a very fine line. That opportunity comes in you're in a bad situation in a might only be one year just because they never get it again. So that's why. I watched guys goes to the same stuff i watched. My dad go through in a workout and i watched it not work out in washington. And that's some of the stuff. I've learned that. Have so much respect for coaches and people like my dad. People like bill check. People like sean but you gotta realize that they're also fortunate like did not. Everything's gonna play out that way always and you got to believe in yourself. You got to believe in the people around you but you can't just be obsessed with the results Yes all i think about is when a super bowl and trust me. I don't need to sit here and tell you how much east of me. But he also you can't make decisions chasing that 'cause it's a business isn't guaranteed as a team sport. "Three until six in the afternoon. Which means I'm on At the exact same time as my friend, Rocky Boy Woman who chances are you know hosts the afternoon show on this radio station. Along with Eddie Fingers. Rocky had the day off the other day and yet still join me to talk about something that he and I are on opposite sides off Zach Taylor. The Bengal started mini camp this week on Tuesday and after day one, he said. Yep. Mini camps over vacation starts, and this was basically a transaction. Because he wanted full attendance at O. T s. Those quotas are not mandatory. He wanted his players to get to the 85% vaccination threshold, which, if you do that, suddenly There are no inhibitions there. There are no restrictions. Guys can come and go in the weight room. As many as can fit in. Teams can meet in person. They don't have to do everything virtually And so Zach Taylor has all this. He gets to do all this. Plus, he got something this spring that not every team got full attendance at O T A s. Everybody came. Everybody came. That is a great sign for the Bangles. It's a great sign if you're trying to figure out, you know, is this team going to buy into whatever it is? Zach Taylor is selling. In exchange for doing all that Zach Taylor did what a lot of bosses do, right. I used to do it. When I'm supervised people. You do this. I'll do that in return. Happens here happens in a lot of work places. All right. Can we get Can we get full of 10 Tenants at OT is, Can we get our work done? We get better over these 10 practices. Can we ensure that when training camp starts, we don't have to worry about meeting via zoom or anything like that. And if the answers are yes, we'll cut loose two days early. We'll start our vacation two days early. I loved it. Going to a degree to the fact that my work ethic is shaky. My guy. Rocky did not like it. We discussed it. You can hear the debate. On ESPN, 15 30 dot com's podcast page. Look, this is a huge season for the Bangles. It's a huge, huge season for Zach Taylor. Um, the fact that he got everybody on board everyone came to O T A s. It goes to show. I think to a degree they have the guys he's looking for, and they are buying in. You are Welcome to agree with either me or Rocky had 513749 7000 or 1 800 The big one, Um, reds and Padres again tonight I am. I think this is fascinating. I'm not even saying that the Reds are handling this wrong, but I think there's this dynamic to me is is really interesting. Tyler Naquan Has emerged as this team's third best or third most productive outfielder. Said. Some big hits hits home runs, He's you know, and I don't really use RBS as the best measurement tool to determine whether or not a guy's ineffective hitter, but he's driven in more runs than anybody on this team. That includes Jesse Winker that includes Nick Cassidy on us. He's played it pretty good center field. He has a higher O. P s than anybody on the team who is not named Castano's or Winker. He deserves a shot to play almost every single day. He is in the starting lineup tonight. He is also as you probably know, Left handed hitter, which effectively squeezes Shoko Akiyama out of the starting lineup, and you can't blame David Belliard. David Bell is doing what I think most of us want our managers to do. This guy is outperforming this other dude, even though this other dude is making a hell of a lot more money, And so we're playing this other guy either For the time being, or perhaps it's a permanent move as long as the guy can sustain. His production. But still Two things about Chicago, the first of which is at the end of the year last year when the Reds turned it on those final three weeks offensively. What ignited? That was the fact that showgirl Akiyama started to get on base at an unbelievably high clip. It was from September the eighth until the end of the year. Sugar Akiyama got on base 46% of the time. So there is that There's also the fact that, um the Reds are paying him seven million bucks this year. He signed a three year $21 million contract. Now I'm all in favor of playing the best guys, regardless of how much money they're making. Regardless of how many years they played in the big leagues, regardless of what they've done in the past, play the best guys and One thing I like about David Bell is the willingness to just play the best guys this season. Tyler Nay Quinn has been better. Then Shoko Akiyama at the same time. It is kind of remarkable to me. That our franchise that made a lot of decisions this offseason based on well the payroll based on the bottom line financially. Has a guy who was making the kind of money that Shoko Akiyama is making. And he barely plays. Shoko Akiyama hasn't started a game. In the month of June. I'm sorry. He hasn't started and finished a game in the month of June. He has started exactly one game in June. That was a game he came out in the fifth inning game, The Reds lost the Brewers 5 to 1. When Tyler Nay Quinn doesn't play Scott Heinemann does Now again. This isn't that anybody is getting it wrong. They may have every reason in the world to not play show go. He does not hit the ball that hard. We have seen him at times struggle against lefties. At the same time, he does have The fastest first We're home to first time on the entire team. He is a good defender. And he was the guy last year that ignited this run at the top of the batting order that took the Reds to the post season for the first time since 2013. And he is also making Seven million bucks this year. To essentially be 1/5 outfielder. What I think would be fascinating, and we're never going to get the answer to these questions. First of all the the guy who went and God Shoko Akiyama stick. Williams is no longer In a decision making capacity in the organization. When the Reds got show go, Dick Williams was getting Nick Castellanos. Mike Moustakas and we, Meiling. They spent all this money on guys from the outside. And there was this quest to go bring Shoko Akiyama to Cincinnati and Dick Williams completed it as the president of baseball operations, But he's no longer the president of baseball operations. I think it would be interesting. To, uh, to gauge how much show go would be playing if Dick Williams was still in charge. I think it would also be really interesting. To get Nick crawl to speak truthfully and for to get David Bell to speak truthfully about whether or not they were on board, with the Reds getting Shoko Akiyama in the first place. I'm sure publicly, they'll say all the right things. But as Marvin Lewis might say, I see better than I hear Show Go never plays. Another team is playing really well. The loss last night notwithstanding, the team is playing really well. And you know, it's not like they have missed his production in very limited playing time in the month of June. He's hit, okay, but he's not a an experience Big leaguer with a huge track record of success, and so it's very much up in the air. Whether or not if you did play the guy. The results would be all that good. I'm not even sure I have a question for you about this. But isn't it interesting that when they got show go, there was this acknowledgement It's going to take him a while to get up to speed playing Big League ball in the United States. It's going to take some time. There's going to be an adjustment period. Granted..

Zach Taylor, Lyndon Taylor, David Wilson Great team there and they will get you started. If you haven't started on your retirement planning. We talk about topics up and down the spectrum. When it comes to retirement. Linen is going to join us. Now It's been a wild. I mean, think about it Day week month year. The market has been crazy literally for the last 12 years, but it has been a bull market. So if you're concerned, Yeah, you're not alone. Let's go over some steps. We're gonna do that with Linden that you can take to help you weather the market storm on the horizon because most people think it's coming. At some point where I think what 12 years. London I mean, it's It's been a while. It's been a long run. Yeah, Yeah, it's been a working. He's been a been a long run, and there's going to be an adjustment period coming so first one up for you Make sure you're invested appropriately for your age. What does that mean? Morgan is as we get older, We have to take a look more, um, on what's really appropriate for where we're at. In our life cycle As far as our investment side. We remember this quite a bit. People come in, and they have overinvested or overweighted into certain sectors that are higher risks and where they need to be. You know the growth is fine. The gains they make, um that's attractive, but the the risk that they're taking in order to get that game. It's just not worth it. The rewards not there in the long run, so we always have to look for the balance. Um, there's some rules of thumb out there that basically you take your age, minus 110 and That's the amount that you should have an equities at any given time. So yeah, you're younger. You can have 70 80% in equities as you get older that migrates down to 30 to 40%. And sometimes even less. Some people's risk. Tolerance is even less than that. So it's all about balance. You know, we have to have balance to walk. We have to have balance in our life to function and we also have to have balance in our portfolio. In order to maintain it in a you know, a safe fashion through our life. Hes Lyndon Taylor, Father and founder Choice Financial services father of Zach Taylor, our host of the program, the financial jungle in the Oklahoma City market and and linen. I tell you, it just it just brings up this thought, and we hear it quite a bit people that are in retirement, and they're feeling good about their retirement and they come in and they sit down for that. You're you're going over portfolios with your team? Are you kind of surprised by the number of people that aren't quite aware just how much of their portfolio is at risk. Well, I think you know, maintaining that the verse side of the port fellow is important. And you know when we talk to people Uh, you know, conversations come up today about Bitcoin that come up about what's going on with Robin Hood and AMC and some of these hot Little topics as we call them, but But the balls down to every portfolio has to fit the person. Maintaining an active stamps with that portfolio as far as making those changes through the The economic cycles that occur each quarter. Is very important for every portfolio, and everybody being too passive is basically letting the world go by. And that's not taking advantage of things that Will make a difference in our lives and being too aggressive. It basically could shorten the amount of time that you have your money. And the last thing you want to do is have your money run out before you do. I mean, you mentioned diverse portfolio. I mean, with a bull market that's now running on 12 years. Um, have you had discussions with clients? People that have come in and seeking that advice, you know that they are possibly not as diverse as they should be. But I mean, they've had 12 years of a great run, and they're probably saying in themselves while I'm going to stick in there for a little bit longer. Not the as diverse. How does that conversation go? And I'm obviously you guys have these all the time, but getting someone to really take a look at where they are and kind of where they need to spread things out. We have that conversation weekly. Um as we discuss things with clients, we take some of the profits off the table. Place them into more guaranteed fixed item. One of the things that Zach does forces help us find those Where we've got, maybe turn duty that we utilize at that crossroads, but that profit That the run we've had for the last several years. It's time to protect it. And that's what we talk to clients about every week. It's time to protect some of those gains and Have it available for us for the rest of our life. Reds, Pirates games postponed as Cincinnati player tests positive for COVID-19
"This is sports talk later for Lance Encounters for 700 wlw. By the way. Hope you had a great weekend. As of right now, we are expecting the Reds to take on the Kansas City Royals tomorrow night. In Kansas City. That'll be an 805 1st pitch. We go on the air, with the Arnell carriers inside pitch at 705 Luis Castillo is said to get the ball against Brad Keller. Trevor Bauer is now scheduled to pitch on Wednesday, followed up by Sonny Gray. In the first game of a four game series against the Cardinals in ST Louis on Thursday, this after the weekend that was lost after Friday night raids beat the Pittsburgh Pirates and then a couple of hours after the game. We find out that a player tested positive. For covert 19. Saturday's game postponed Sunday's game postponed Ah, couple of things worth pointing out here. Seafront Rosecrans, who, by the way, covers the Reds for the athletic And doesn't awesome job. I've tweeted out a link to a piece that I think will guide you through everything happening with this team right now. But since Saturday, every Reds player has tested at least three times. The players were tested. Saturday, Sunday morning and this morning. Pittsburgh Pirates. Players were also tested in Cincinnati before they flew to Pittsburgh last night. Um As of now. Based on reporting from a couple of it from people who are close to this. There's only been one positive test on the Reds, and it was the player who found out that he was testing positive work over 19 on Friday night. That player has since tested positive again. But as of now and again, there's the latest round of testing results that they have to get. No other Reds player has tested positive. The Reds have yet to fly to Kansas City. They are supposed to fly to Casey tomorrow if they're cleared to play. The player who tested positive would have to be placed on the injured list. Somebody's going to have to be brought up to take his place. The The Pirates will be here in mid September, September 14th to the 16th so there is ample time to make up. Two games They missed right now. The Reds have 40 games remaining. There are 41 days between now and September, the 27th which is the end of the regular season, and so obviously they're not playing today They're going to play 40 games and 40 days to get to 60. They already have a double header scheduled Against the Cubs next weekend. But there is not only a Pittsburgh trip to Cincinnati, but the Reds also going PNC Park and so you can make up one of the games there if you have to. But as of now, The plan is to play. Tomorrow night against the Royals. Again. All of this is very, very fluid. As we've seen with the Cardinals as we've seen with the Miami Marlins, the good news is again. After the one player tested positive with that result being released. On Friday. Reportedly. No other Reds player has subsequently tested positive and also know Pittsburgh Pirates player As of right now 6 26 on Monday night, no other Pirates player Has tested positive. So there you go, Uh 513749 7800 The big £1.700 free call AT and T. Jerry is calling from Claremont County. Hi, Jerry. Jerry. Hope something happens. Jerry. Your wine? Yeah, sure. Go. Oh, well. And so there are awaiting the latest the Siri's of results and they hope to play tomorrow. The Pirates also hope to play tomorrow. Yeah, this time, noting the Reds go to Kansas City before they do that they need to get to clear And for that to happen, they want to ensure there is no other players testing positive. Your city's okay. Well, yeah. I mean, the players are routinely testing positive testing, which is why we found out that a player tested positive on Friday night. Yes. Okay. Okay. Is that all right with you? Yeah. No. There was just a bad weekend without baseball. Yeah, Wass, I I don't I can't disagree with that. Ana would do anything about it. I wanna thank you very much. Thank you. Ok, thanks. Have a good evening. You you you do the same. The Miami Marlins. You may recall after the first weekend of the year they were in Philadelphia, and then again, they had a game scheduled against the Phillies. And on Sunday morning. They found out that a number of players on that team had tested positive for Cove in 19 And instead of baseball, swooping in and stopping the Marlins from playing. Instead, the players were allowed to vote. Whether or not they play now, I'm not sure why that would ever be the case. But that's that was the plan. That was the plan baseball let the Miami Marlins players vote via text by the way. On whether or not they want to play. They did play the game that day in Philadelphia, and then As it turned out that they had close to 20 members of their traveling party. The majority were players, obviously not all of them. The majority of players that a bunch of guys in there traveling party test positive for cocaine, 19 And then it took them forever to get back on the field where baseball is trying to do. Is prevented outbreak now. It is worth wondering. This. Today is the 17th of August regular season baseball ends on September the 27th. Obviously, everybody has off days built in, so there's time if you've got to miss a couple of days. What I do kind of wonder, though. Well, I think baseball has done the right thing here and frankly, I think they did the right thing with the ST Louis Cardinals. October. When we have 16 teams in the playoffs. And we're trying to squeeze a lot of Siri's in a very tight window. And ensure that the season the post season is over before we really get to cold weather in November. What's gonna happen when we have a situation with the team in the playoffs like the one that popped up for the Reds on Friday night? Positive test and now we're not going to play for a couple of days. Not playing for a couple of days in the regular season is really not that big a deal. Not playing for a couple of days in the postseason. Could have a significant short and long term impact. Our previous comments from Joe Borough on February seventeenth during a reception. For the Davey. O'brien award. He had this to say I do have leveraged the Bengals have their process and I have my process. We haven't even gotten to the combine yet. There's a lot of things that happened. Leading up to the draft. A lot of information gathered bras. Mother Robin shot down the idea. Her son does not want to play for the bengals. Saying we have no idea where that came from. It's a story out there that has created that doesn't have any substance at least from our perspective here Hasbro earlier today here at the combine. Of course I want to be the first pick. That's that's every kid's dream you know I've worked really really hard for this opportunity and I'm blessed to be in this position. I'm a ball player. Whoever picks me on my go show up? How play whoever for forever dressing? You know. I'm just not going to be presumptuous. About what they WANNA DO I. It's the draft. You guys have been covered it for a long time and you never know what's going to happen so we played a month longer than everyone else and everyone else's been training a month longer than us you know. I wanted to put. I don't I didn't think I'd be able to put my best foot forward here at the combine so I wanted to wait till pro day had another whole month of training and just be the best that I could be when everyone when. Everyone's eyes are on me. You know coming in. If you're the number one pick the teen is picking number one. Is there for a reason? So you're going to have to come in. There's going to be ups and downs and you've got to stay steady through the process. Our research tells us about Joe. Borough is his own man. He's not going to be talked into saying things for other people's benefits so if that's what he said. That's that's fantastic. I'm looking forward to getting to know him getting to meet him through. The process haven't been able to sit down with them yet. But we've got that on the horizon. We'll talk more about Joe. Boroughs plans to hold off throwing here at the combine. But might I'll start with you in terms of do you want? Do you not want to play for the being. You have any issues at all with where we landed at least at this point. No I mean as I said last week Joe Borough at the end he does not have leverage. The bengals have the first pick in the draft. If they want to draft. Joe Joe Borough. That's where he's GonNa go now with that. Said I think it's incumbent upon sack Taylor in the Bengal organization to create the Right Environment. Where he could come in and they could build something sustainable and truly transformative so. I think where we wended. Wendy is appropriate last week. He could've handled that better but to Joe Boroughs credit. I think they tweak things I think they're in a good spot now. He's been well-coached past week. Tower doesn't it. Yeah and Adema to your Do All your contacts. It appears that borough likely young he's projected pick. I still think that's where the bengals ultimately go. And they're sitting there and that's about this a team that needs somebody to revitalize that franchise and they are expected to look to trade Andy Dalton at some point this off season and so when you're sitting there in division with Lamar Jackson there in Baltimore think that they know that they have to get somebody in there. That's going to put some points on the Board Baker Mayfield Cleveland and this is going to be the pick for the Cincinnati bengals. Even Joe was considering trying to exercise some kind of leverage really the only leverage you have is withhold your services and not playing not report even if he was thinking along those lines. Let's say he's doing a deep dive trying to figure out exactly. Just what the Cincinnati offer as far as developing me as a quarterback. Could you blame him? Could you really blame him for wanting to dig? Deep on exactly what? What does the future going to look like during over the course of my rookie contract with this football team would exactly? What exactly is Mike Brown's commitment to go ahead and building out this roster around me because we all know a lot of what's going to happen to him has nothing to do with him and has everything to do with everything that's going to be around him. Just look at the past three or four drafts. And how certain players have benefited from going to certain to certain teams? Just look at l a look at the difference between jar rookie year in his second year. Sean mcvay came in. It flipped his rookie year. People were saying Jared Goff to Canada. All of a sudden his second year is like. Oh wait a minute. Maybe he's not so bad you couldn't blame him. If that was a thought Lewis to that point I also think an opportunity. If you're Zach Taylor to say hey what's happened in the past. It's irrelevant we're going to myself with you and we're going to build something great and we can't worry about what's happened before we have a lot of work to do. But if I'm the bengals if I have a hey coach Taylor. That's worked with quarterbacks. Like you mentioned Jared Goff Joe Boroughs Billy and character. That's a great opportunity for the bengals. Sino three things one. Is that if something were to go on with. The bengals is not going to happen in public and this has been addressed in the past week if it's going to happen behind the scenes so whatever we hear from this point on. Don't even don't even look at it. Don't think about it because it has nothing to do with with what is going on behind the scenes. The second thing is this guy's different cab he beats. It goes a Beatles drummer. He doesn't care what anyone else has done. In the past what everyone else is GonNa do in the future? He's going to do what's best for Joe Borough but the third thing I know about him is he's a football guy he's his. His brothers played linebacker at safety at Nebraska. His Dad's a almost four decades coach in football. He's a football guy at its core. He's from Ohio. Obviously I think when it's all said and done he winds up going in Cincinnati if he's number one overall pick but again. If it's GonNa Happen it's GonNa Happen. Not In the media. It's GonNa happen behind the scenes again. Joe Bro not expected to throw on Thursday. He said he just wasn't ready yet. Not a huge deal. Sam Darnold Kyla Murray. The last two years have opted not to throw here at the combine as well. What did make headlines on Sunday? Oddly enough pros hand measurements the measurable quarterbacks took place on Sunday on the smaller side. Love listen here's what he said after it was suggested his aunt size was small considering retirement after. I was informed that we slipping out of my tiny hands. Please keep me in your thoughts while he's got good company because here's what Super Bowl fifty four. Mvp Patrick Mahomes had to say who had just slightly larger hands than did borough my small Andrew doing great so far all right he should say believe in yet. Here's borough earlier today addressing his hands. Yeah I mean these measurements you can. You can take so much from them if it's a glaring issue on film with turnovers. Yeah it's probably an issue but I didn't have a lot of fumbles or anything like that so I just tried to make a little joke out of it I think it's a non factor I don't get paid to talk about. Measurements and analyze. The measurements like played to play football. So that's what I'm GONNA do. I look we're not gonNA make too much of this question. Well yet about what? They actually do what they're actually measuring here so worry not. We've got a ruler. We've got Louis at. I mean really what you're really trying to do is just trying to measure the expense of someone and they put it down on the ground and you actually hear about guys actually doing hand exercises to stretch their hand as wide as possible although when you're grabbing a football you're actually going to measure from the tip of the thumb to the tip of the Pinky here and this is hard because this is a hard rule and you can't really get good accurate measuring you look tired type by just under nine right. Look I'll give you a non center's Oh that's attention and would have actually done something with my. I mean what's interesting when you watch the tape of Joe Borough? There are situations where people come from behind strip him when he's trying to move up in the pocket and run. I mean that's going to happen if you have nine if you have ten inches so I mean it's not a glaring obvious problem as far as him on the football field and that's why I think it's really. It's just going to be something that will hopefully wind up forgetting about certain the biggest thing is and you know this with all of these drills you know as well. Mike you go back to the tape and you're trying to find something after the fact that says okay. Now I'm going to look specifically at these things so you're gonNA look cold weather rain and then ball security and Joe Boroughs as good as any college quarterback you're ever going to see in the pocket in terms of two hands on the ball and protecting the ball. I saw him in two thousand eighteen the last weekend. In September against Ole Miss. You can go back and watch the tape. My suit was soaking wet when I did the open of that game. It was pouring rain driving rain in anyone who says it doesn't rain in Baton Rouge on a Saturday night is lying to you. Because it poured and he completed seventy two percent of his throws with three touchdowns and zero interceptions in that game. So you go back to the tape and you try to look at these things and what the tape tells you is. He's just fine. You know I had a theory here. I have an interesting experience with hand size so I was forced out in two thousand eight. We were we trade for Brett Farve and just as a fan of sport. I can't wait to go out to the first practice and watch Brett farve throw. There's nothing physically imposing about breath and he goes out there and he's throwing Abe I've ever seen and I ask them like what is the value. Where's this philosophy comes from it? He said you know what Mike I have long fingers and I actually couple of football the way a lot of people throw a softball. I could actually be over the top and that's where I get all my philosophy from just watching my practice. It was unbelievable to watch though. I know as Lewis show. There's a tradition of how we measure hands but finger. Length is actually an underrated aspect of playing quarterback so far so far small hands but long fingers and you know what my pinky and all the time strong throwing football pictures of the five. It's easily the least important finger in the hand and I can't remember it ever being a big factor. It's all there in the grip. The pinky to me doesn't matter. It's archaic. How we're measuring the quarterback's hand span now with that. Said there's thirty four quarterbacks in the last fourteen years who have been drafted that have had hands of nine inches and smaller and really only two of them had any sort of Sustained Success Ryan. Tannehill is one of them and Jared. Goff is the other. That's it so there are thirty two out of thirty four. Who have failed. But are we going to say that he's going to the Joe Boroughs? Not GonNa have success because his hands tells me that the reason for their failure wasn't because they were nine inches weight.
