"The theater near stately brown manner, but it's also a Netflix the army of the dead. Army of the dead. Yes. You know, Netflix was trying to new buzz to get this $100 million action epic, you know, off the ground and they released in theaters last week. I didn't do well at all. Nobody went. I don't know if nobody went because, you know people are going back or just people were interested in seeing it. It's being released today on Netflix. And of course, if you don't know what army of the dead bodies from directors that Snyder you know, he gave his Justice League and Superman movies. This is a group of Gangsters who are going to steal $200 million from a bank vault located underneath the Las Vegas Strip. But the only problem is the Army of the undead Zombies I've taken over Las Vegas and the U. S military has quarantined off Vegas. They're going to nuke my course city, So we have 24 hours to get in there, Get the money and get out. So I've seen it. It's fantastic. This is my type of movie. I got the director and his wife and also some new cast members on my YouTube channel at new interviews on there for Army of the Dead s O. If you like that kind of thing, it's awesome. Jeff calls it the feel good movie of the year.

"My friend. It is snyder's knob. Sorry not just. I teased everybody there. But zack ciders. Army of the dead is coming up this weekend on net flicks. I got a chance to watch the first fifteen minutes of it out on youtube and so far so good within. I know the reviews are okay but basically this is zack. Stars return to the zombie universe. His time spent in the dc universe which he may never go back to. but that's another story in itself. But zack snyder is mac. With the army of the dead starring date by teesta and a lot of other great cast members as well which name off here in a little bit but your thoughts on watching this movie eat is a spiritual successor to his dawn of the dead movie that he made in the early two thousands but it's not a direct sequel and it's still something a little bit different. It's like a heist film. Based in las vegas where they want to go ahead and steal. I think it's two hundred million dollars if i'm not mistaken out of a fault. One of the casinos in las vegas. Which where i'm at. But las vegas happens to be a controlled area where it's all walled off. Because of some zombies in fact the whole city is now infested islamise impact. The whole city is operatives. So i should be be right now because i'm in vegas but be that as it. May your thoughts my friend on watching army the debt this weekend. I know you said you and jamie are going to check it out. But your thoughts. On zack snyder. Returning to this universe. After his time spent with warner brothers ad dc

"It's something now we know. And it's called flashpoint. Go and like i think the first one is he tried to go back and save his mom from dying but that changed everything for that was the tv show. But that's flashpoint him but they always do it like that whole data ran some last year. They ran a big line. I was it was reading everyone that new crisis and it was this the flash point like i think they did it with Bruce wayne like they had for a while. That alfred was really his father. And thomas wayne was still alive and everyone was super pissed. Like putting you can't batman if his dad and guide true and alfred with his mom and is really is dad and then flashpoint mila we. Robert pattinson is going to be batman. Friend i wonder if i like that one. So let's talk about this with bradley. Like what's cool is now. You can say oh. That's zack snyder's justice league. But look we have different batman over here. We have different joker over here. Oh we have harley quinn's moves over here we have these like. I do hope they keep to like that way. We can now we. Maybe we can have a happy justice. Not so dark and we like. Oh that's you know On lease justice league warner brothers immediately came out and said that they weren't continuing the snyder verse. Which honestly i think they should. They wanna embrace the multi-diverse all right snyder verses one earth over here and then you can have robert patents as batmans earth here like and then them all. Do you know what. Dc's timeline is now obviously. We're getting a new Suicide squad yes suicide squad to come into. that's doctor strange's martin marvelous. Sorry we're gonna come in to where we're supposed to get a flash. We're gonna new green liner Doug green lantern. I believe is greenland and core and i think it's going to matter and then they're animated stuff and their tv stuff there. Wbz stuff does really well. Yeah so. I'm excited to see what they have going. I always liked. I've always enjoyed dc i- suzanne to that. We are and black adam. Oh yeah with the rock. Ya-ya yeah forgot about that. He's been getting buff on his instagram for the rock for the black adam. Well now you heard our thoughts. If you like did let us know on the facebook and twitter's facebook it's still just go to. "Interested in the pick of who survive. Cf cyborg you have the aquaman female era you have slash. Who's like who wouldn't is because you have put come Last point to come back in time because that batman v superman. That's the suit he popped up in. And then you have joker slade yup and man in harley quinn which is cool like dat. She's dead harlequin wasn't a no she was dead does he said because he. Because that's how bad got him was. He said something about harvey e says something about the boy wonder. And then because joker does kill robin. And i think there was a comment about harley. Yeah and that because he said something about harley that that's so much like the video game injustice in the video game lowest. The joker killed lois. Lane and batman or superman came in killed the joker. And that's what like and they became this in when he's dead. He became this totalitarian like evil. God but. I don't think that's the story that zack snyder's telling him what i've heard bruce wayne and his story. Bruce wayne got lois lane. Prego and notice. Ma'am freaking losses. Notice that the end of the movie when they're moving back to marquess. She's supposedly carrying a basket. That looks like a little. And you hear bruce. Say congratulations as to. So when they do then. I i'm assuming but it doesn't make sense because in this one. They really show her morning more than in the other one because in eighties. Maybe it was like a. I don't want to ban on there but or like a like a grieving sex or something but it was a drunken night that they yeah. You know thinking about superman. Superman one thing leads to another by in and in also an injustice jerry really liked was Superman wonder woman and one other person like all decided to be the lords of the were okay. We haven't really talked about the cyborg finally getting into down movie which was valve in heart of the whole film man even his his dad getting more than he got in the other. One we are which I don't know if you know that's the dude who immunity to not let that guy around sort of cyborg robots but that did such a good actor too man. I know and i feel like joss weeden just like they made him weird but they gave him a real part him. Real part and I saw on twitter the the lady that he gives the money to in the movie she posted on twitter. Like i haven't seen it yet. And i make it into the movie because her whole story out and he liked to back. How'd you get away. He decided to do that with like the standing in the desert like looking. I thought that was an interesting choice of how to jump into the into the box. Or no no when he just would like when he was like imagining. Yeah though i heard another podcast. So i can't take credit for say and i thought it was good like he can do all these things he doesn't just immediately like level out everyone's wealth and everyone money like why not like he whatever he wanted to they were like. Why would you give. Why don't you ease them into don't tell a teenager. He has to all the nuclear codes because teenagers get pissed off sometimes not only being able to get all the story leading characters breath and getting their stories but they didn't rush to. Oh we got a broom of may now halfway into the movie. Yeah and it wasn't like a a light decision liquid is like you know we're all thinking but i'm not gonna say it and they you know cyborg has him so and when he comes back they like cut that up you know when he's walking through the ship. Yeah in the voice of russell russell costner talking about these people and the planet earth and everything else. I'm like you. Why did you cut this out of the movie. Like i got chills. When that's half what do you think about all the hate. That draws wade's thinking about this movie like and how much he cut out of it seeing it now. I think it's deserved. Why did you do that. I don't think it's all of his. I don't think it's all his fault. I think the studio stepped in as well saying okay. You get two hours. Here's what snyder shot. And then put some humor to lighten it up a little bit. This is a little dark. I mean does point. He was like okay. He has stripped it down and said here's the basic story like basic story of the boxes and then we'll k. We'll just kind of that And then it didn't work but like other. I was telling talking to great now it. Could you know if you were big. Conspiracy theorist you could say that zack. Snyder's four hour movie was never gonna get seen. But what if we made a really crappy movie and that really crappy was so bad later on could make more money on the same film that we already have footage of later Because i don't like. I was trying to think if i just saw in the theater. I mean we've been four hours. Would i have liked it without if the knowing how bad the original one was the original one being bad. Make this one la better. I was thinking that same thing. Like did i enjoy this more because what we've seen before going. Oh my god that's crap now compared to this or if this would have been the only version we saw would we would we both given it five stars. I i probably would've but that's me Did you see the martian manhunter. Yes yes yes. I gotta help me. Some man's green green lantern ring barely. Snyder wanted the green lantern he did pop in at the end to talk to you one or two man. He wanted john. Stewart screen lantern day at the end instead of martian manhunter. But warner brothers said no yes. They have plans for greener and so unfortunately now. Did you like how. Marshall manner hunter came in basically being you know. I thought it was cool. Aren't the at these been slinging around the earth along. How can we help you help it. Yeah exactly you're not gonna help anything. Do you're like superpower. that's a character. I've always thought was way overpowered. He's like super strong. He could walk through walls. He can shape change. He's basically and read your mind and tell tell lp till tell 'til 'til telepathy and that was like but like he's not as strong as superman or one of them they always like take them down a notch. Yeah he's the guy that's supposed to just stay in the base and communicate everyone four. We wrap up talking to this. I we all it. The the last thing. I want to talk about that. I loved was how the final fight. How they actually came together. As a team worked together to steppenwolf i thought flashes with so good the the setting-up flashpoint now where he basically they lost. Yeah the boxes. United and the way that it happened where he had to run really fast then everybody gets put back together. Yeah just to see can bring back time. Yeah so that's every dc whenever they have a storyline running that sex every now and then. There's getting one sucks they'll be and then suddenly grabble. You're reading it sucks. Jalousie flash popout. I mess up time again..

"Horns because i kept thinking like to grow the horn man. He was younger back four. He like got fati. The word i keep hearing for this film is complete is definitely in. It was one whole story now. It does the exact snyder four hours to tell his story. But the before before. We got this like we didn't get a flash movie cyborg origins or aqua. We'd have oklahoma move either. No we didn't have aqua yet in this gave you like flesh those characters out. Except for uncle man aquaman. I think you were texting us saying that. They made him more of like the sex symbol in this then the the other one was sniffing his shirt and stuff and he's like you it takes off. I'm like this shoes like i was like. You're not taking his shoes off fan. You're sitting there in the water with squishy socks and shoes like deal but he keeps jeans and shoot like boots on. I might seem swim. And he's barefoot. He just has jeans. I'm like snow. Take the shirt off. The those does he always have like clothes stashed somewhere so when he pops out like. Here's my iceland. Girls girls singing the song. She leaves a little box for him. Here's your box of clothes. I washed them my hand on the river. No but for them to bed so the only thing. I thought that it didn't make sense. In the whole film everything was explained. Perfectly was the what step in with found when when dark side jumped down the. It's it's a. It's a combat the anti the anti life Quesions i life. Andy live equation. Which i know they would have gotten into but it was like they said that twice and i know what that is from comic books mostly. I do think it is kind of funny that you know. He's he was on earth before with the boxes in fighting with these symbols on the ground. And the gods the everyone beat in and he laughed in did he. just forget. Like whatever happened to zeus aries man. I actually was googling. Who are those people. And i was like where is. Where did they leave that. Anti life equation. I don't remember where it is also really in equation when he bangs his math rolls out the the equation apocalypse mathematician man. Who's like i put together an anti lively. But but zeus in aries. I mean zeus is. Yeah wonder woman's dad dad. And then aries is who she fight in the movie and zeus is also a part of worship. Zam gets his the arrow. She's there were three gods right. Yes but she's someone that we'd never heard of before i mean i'm sure percy jackson talked about her. I'm sure she no. It wasn't areas. It wasn't not aries what's her name. Juno now the growth blue eyes her mom the god of goddess of wisdom. Oh up a fina. Athena's those yes you don't. We didn't do that. We usually do before we start. How stars our stars were spoiler airy. Ring it we're spoiling it. We get into bruins. Z's starts to give it actually for free solid. I think it's high praise. I two five. It was my second five-year also my second five of the year. I loved it i like. I've watched it three times now. I brought it out on this. Where i'm going to go like colorado space. It twelve hours of not only did it once in one sitting. everything else is. I just started the boys on. Just keep washing pieces of it. And i've gone back and watch the flash seen because i love. Why would you take that out when he sees iris. There's another african american out of the film like but because she's showing up in the flash movie as irs like. Why would you cut her out. Like why would you get that. Scene was so good. And cyborg like cyborgs. Like huge part of the movie and he he just we weeden for the flesh. Said you know what. I'm taking out this scene. That's already been cutting made and i'm gonna add this prison where he draws a mustache on a ball. I'm gonna make him even value adding and then he made him like scared. Like oh eight. I i just push people away. He s he was awesome in this. The flashy wasn't like cowardly. No he was getting the he reminded me of reminded. Me of The one x men guy who's actually over the way that the the animated you know the way that i think joss weeden was trying to model him after because he will really like yours. Yeah oh okay. I think i felt very much tax because they trail that was trying to how they took out the became afraid. They took out the stupid joke where he lands on wonder woman's chest. Yeah and like gets face on her chest. Yeah sexualizing yeah. That's yeah sweden doesn't and i mean the amazonean bad bad ass in this. Every scene was so much better. The amazon is. I was watching this. I remember liking this seen as much as she comes in like. Show him your fear and then we have no fear like sorry. You can't add four seconds. But when they fought steppenwolf they did it in a much more instead of like a one on one so to all group on him in a holy do right like it was cool man. It was a cool cool seeing. And then you get. And i think you get this a little bit the first one. But you're just not paying attention at seen as much but like oh. The amazonian would have overpowered him once they got to him and he got out quick. Enough like yeah. Unlike the atlantans day they were not overpowering. And this was what i was curious about. I remember we kept making fun of them speaking underwater. So yes zack matters. Was that in this or was that in. This is where you see the difference. Zack snyder's thing was they. Were going to create the air bubble. Where talk but when they made the aquaman movie they just said no okay.

"This is your daily charge here to help me geek out over the center. Cut is resident. comic book. Expert has seen it staff. Reporter sean kane. Welcome sean yeah look eke it out well before we begin. I want to warn the listener. That we'll be diving into spoiler territory so you've seen the film yet and don't wanna be spoiled. Turn off the podcast now and come back to us later so folks a minute ago. This islands is passed. Let's get into it sean. Overall what did you think of the film. I was pleasantly surprised. I've see reviews are widely varying. And i feel like your acceptance of this movie will is just a litmus test of your feeling about zack. Snyder's vision for these characters in this universe. Like i did not like batman versus superman don of justice even though i lost saying the title For the first time. I saw it and i was like. Oh this is a silly mess gets the characters. Wrong ivory watched it since i re-watch last year the slightly longer ultimate cost. I liked it a lot more. I'm not sure why accepted it so much. I guess the main thing it was is that without expectations. The first time i saw it. I think the first many what's off. They went in with expectations. And so that. Set me up nicely for the snyder costs. I knew what i was getting into. Yeah i actually. I did enjoy it. I was surprised. I would enjoy i. I was convinced was not going to be. I think because expectations were low for me and it was four hours but surprisingly saw confession is i have never watched the original theatrical cut of justice league in one sitting because always fall asleep like i slept through parts of every every time i've watched it and i have after watching a couple times mostly on airplanes. Were the were free and on demand. I was able to get but in multiple parts and i thought it was terrible and so this movie was a huge huge huge upgrade

"That is a heavy burden i mean. Just add onto that just before. Corey goes about ray fisher but just that final semi-final scene when he's inside the box man. I am a sucker for the message of you. Were not broken. You are not incomplete like that message will break me. Every time i'll just like and he just like he steps into his power in that moment and like and is like Yeah anyway. I do want to mention one thing. I hope again. Like when i'm going to say when ray fisher gets his film gets his own and he has to go into the internet or the tech world again. I hope they continue. What i think they're aiming for in. This film is that at the beginning whenever he's in it he's still in his gotham jersey and then finally at the end he you see him as his cyborg self and it's like accepting himself and so like when he when he's showing how the nazis found the for the smother box of man He's still in the jersey and then during that point where he's in the mother box he's still in jersey and then finally makes the turn and against that decision of like. I'm not a broken. i'm not alone in like. He's in a cyborg form. And i'm like yeah that will that's a visual conveyance of his development and character acceptance of himself and it's like oh my again the whole You could make a whole home movie on this. It's so yeah so corey fischer obviously a lot to unpack with the whole story with what happened there. But they're wrong for that first of all he's been since removed from the flash film one way or another. I also that. I actually give me the short summary of it. I kind of know something happened. But i don't know what essentially he came forward to talk about. How there was a lot of mistreatment onset by a few key. Figures such as josh tweeden. Geoff johns and powering. Sweden's abusive behavior abusive behavior set and his demeanor overall demeanor. There was accusations of digitally lightening skin of certain actors and stuff like that and threatening with his job. And eventually warner brothers let investigation. I don't think anything really came of it. And they have since of tried to bury ray fisher's career and wow removed him from the flash film and all the while he's been promoting a accountability over entertainment or accountability is greater than entertainment and so this movement has gotten a lot of traction and a lot of support from I believe zack snyder. And jason momoa and the likes and so with this. I have said it for a long time. And i said i hope snyder cut since it was announced. I said i hope snyder cut is so good. That hollywood cannot ignore. Ray fisher they cannot they cannot bury his and i believe this has done just that seeing what people are saying not only about his character and especially i mean not only here but on the internet everywhere else about how he was the heart of this film and how important it was and how how is performance was just so wonderfully acted in the spectrum of his emotion. And everything like that. I think. I think and i'm i'm crossing my fingers that it has done. Just that for me. It has if. I never see ray fisher anything else. I'll be upset. Because he's so wonderfully talented The scenes in the car with him and his mom was wonderful. I just i just it's my big takeaway from from the snyder. Cutouts like if anything happens. I hope it's that..

"There's like a wonderful character arc with a lot of people who like. Yeah maybe we should give them like. Yeah you asshole ramos anyways. I i so as corey mentioned There was something on thursday morning that we had to kind of prep. For and be it was important and so responsibly. Watch the movie when it first drops at midnight on the day on. Hbo max. I had watched the red carpet premiere on with kevin smith and exciter which was really fun and you got to see like like members at large at the phantom participate and fischer is. If you want to hype anything. Get kevin smith in your corner because the dude knows how to hype something and then also. He's contagious the exciting and then also shouted to cora who she I on on one of my films and she edited virtual premier so it was pretty And yeah so watch the i will premiere and then I was like okay. I have to be up by like nine o'clock. So i can do this thing shave and like all good and i was like do i do i. Do i do to myself where i know. I can't then. I was like yes. Of course i do this to myself. I hate myself. And i turn on the movie. And they'll say. I'll do thirty minutes and then after that i was like after. I can't stop here. I kind of do the next thirty minutes and another thirty minutes and then two and a half hours go by is three o'clock. I'm like five hours. And then i just go away and go to bed and i finished the film after the meeting and it was i i love it. I was like i can't talk about it i have to just wait for people to like dist- i'm not. I'm not going to be a jerk. That's gonna post spoilers on the internet. And then after that i had the same screener or or or a live. Watch party with zack snyder. Josh did and i started again so i was like. Let me make food for an hour and then let me jump back in and I watched it again. And then i've watched it. I think almost almost once a day at this point. Because it's at this point where like i'm petitioning and fighting that we do get more of it so that play count baby and i'd be lying if i didn't have it playing right next to me right now If something that like yeah of course it say like this. It's like it's four hours but for me watching. It doesn't feel like it. You will see the clock. Turn but like tom. Now you feel like every lord of the rings fan as young as well i mean. I felt the same way with the rings to know when it's a good story. It shouldn't be fettered by arun. I'm just saying i'm just saying well. The the yeah. The fall is just like theaters and exhibitions being like well. We can't have a movie theater..

Is Zach Snyder's 'Justice League' a Good Movie?

"The very controversial for so many reasons for content reasons for formatting reasons i saw so many memes about the fact that it was reformatted. Four three zack zack. Snyder's justice league has officially dropped. We say dropped on the internet right. It's not like premiering a movie theater. It's just dropping on on. Streamers is fishy dropped on hbo. Max there's a complicated back story where zacks under had to leave mid production because of a family tragedy which is very sad judd app not try that patel just we took over just we apparently was a total asshole and there were all sorts of lawsuits. About what a dickey was and then you know. The film by many fans was not felt to reflects what zach snyder intended and there was long discussion of a zacks undercut image. Peo- max put in seventy million dollars to shoot a whole bunch more footage to make the zack snyder. Cut of justice league. Come out for years later. This is an interesting story because it is different. From a lot of directors cut stories. A lot of directors cut stories are ten years later. I'm grateful the studio give me access to the archive to rescan the negative and re-cut it is very rare in fact i can't think of an example where someone's like four years later. I got an extra seventy five million dollars to shoot additional footage to make an alternate movie like it is. Is there another example. That are missing where somebody got that. I don't know but what i do know. Is that in the history of film. There have been many many many directors cuts and extended editions and versions. That were revisited. We've talked about some of them here before. And most of our audience familiar with many of them It is not unheard of obviously for there to be something that prevents the original vision to be completed by the person who had it. And obviously there are many instances where somebody could go back and try and piece things together. Only orson welles. A number of times We even talked to. I talked to walter merch about going back in and recruiting and working on touch of evil. There are the magnificent emerson's with him as well. I think he's one of the early versions. Were early famous versions but bladerunner famously for anybody mir charles age And so much inbetween. It's such a common story but this one does stand apart because yeah he was given basically a massive feature film budget to make more of it his version of it and it is an interesting thing like will this happen more often. Will we get criminal. And saying actually i want to shoot a whole different ending too dark dark knight rises fifteen years later. Because i've rethought it. And i wanna go into a very complicated sort of relationship between the artists and the work when you remove the theatrical premiere and when you open up the idea of shooting original additional footage it is a it's vastly different so Full disclosure wasn't able to finish it have a two year olds. Get very sleepy very easily. Don't have four hours with two year. Old where i can watch the whole thing but universally in my social media of the people in my life everyone i know seems to have really enjoyed the new cup more than the last cut. I do not understand why people hate on sex neither so much. I genuinely enjoyed his dawn of the dead. I thought it was solid. I also am a like. I wanted to get into movies. Originally to make watchmen. When i was nice school. I don't hate his watchman. Cut like everyone else does. I don't understand whether so mad about it. I think people to hate sex. Neither for some reason that does not make sense to me. I'll also disclosed and then michelle. I know michelle is actually watched both right but so i have watched the new one. I watched the snyder cut. I did it. I made it through. Well di i not a big comic book movie fan. In general i have seen many of them though. And i did not see the original justice league so i had to do some research on what changed which was really interesting to me. I also actually really think highly of him from a visual standpoint. I find that even when he's not like a lot of the movies directed this one included. The material is just not great in my opinion but he's visually so committed to the bit that he does that his sequences really worked for me. And i think he's a great comic book movie director choice. Because i think he's really. His camera is like ballot. Check i think his action sequences are visually compelling. And i think his approach like to me the thing that felt the weakest about this. I mean obviously the some some major casting problems major script problems but all that aside i think it it mimicked. Some of what marvel does too much sometimes which i don't really like. They're some straight up. Like this is just an avenger. Seen but not as good. And i don't really love what it was in the first place personally but all my my personal take aside. I think filmmakers He is just he really doesn't. He's earnest he's not tongue in cheek and sometimes it gets a little silly and you might laugh. But i think his earnest approach to how dramatic he is with his camera like from dawn of the dead to the three hundred to a and tackling real quick charles before michelle I think that warner brothers is known to have some really tight released times. They don't have the same war chest that disney does for like they. They set these release dates. They they have to make them. I'm not going to get into the wise. And if sets really true but and that puts a lot of pressure on finishing something and delivering something. And i think that some of the the flaws in some of these dc comic book movies have to do with some of that some of us so anyway onto you. Michelle i f Well done on watching. The center is a endeavor. I i think i knew what the runtime was. But it doesn't click in my head until i was watching and the timeline at the bottom. It has like how long you've watched. And i miss read it. I thought it was much like when it said two and a half hours at the bottom. I thought that was a total Not they meant time that i had laughed and that was quite a surprise. So it's long. Don't don't kid yourself jack. Knifed mini series has parts could have been released in parts. My first input. If you will is i feel like i. Keep reading the quote snyder cut. That snyder wouldn't release in two thousand seventeen and i would argue that. I don't know this is i. Don't think this is at all what would have been released for so many reasons. It's a it's a post weeden post tragedy post. Hbo max snyder display. I don't think we would be able to release a for. I could be wrong. A four hour epic in a theater in twenty seventeen. I don't obviously say that. There are many teaser. There are changes are subtle there. Some people have pointed them out and in terms of very subtle and different. Like stolen changes. That i think are in there now. For example there's a billboard others billboard in the city at some point in the messages you're not alone and a lot of people have guessed that something that snyder put in in reference to his daughter. Like these little things that have been put in log away 'cause post years of reflection on it and i just don't think not content aside just the run time. I'm not sure how many people really yes for hours within a theatre. Let's do it. I don't know if we the same. i do. Think a really interesting experiment if anyone ever wants to ever play with this idea of same footage different story concept of how to edit something together. Because i started watching the josh sweden version the same evening. Don't do this same evening through off after watching case for a minute i thought you were. You said you meant side by side like you had to i. Four by three setup does allow you. I will say to have it on the side of my screen. As i was like doing some work so i will say the former three at least helpful in the arrangements of your browser window because like i'm not cutting anything off because it's not a letterbox or other format so the four by three is is is makes it easier to have the size. No i tried watching the conversion right. After some of the scenes giving away some of the scenes that feel pivotal in the story. Line are like thrown in the credits. The opening like oh i get with. This is going to do you. I don't know if i can sit through

"Yeah it's nice telling him to fly this time now. We didn't get no run. Barry run but we gotta a fly on fly. It's time to fly is really good. And then i you know he shows up and it's i mean it's was wondering how he was going to make his entrance but right when steppenwolf goes to you know kikes down sidewalk. He just appears and takes the accents. Not impressed yeah. I mean before we go any further with that real quick can can i. Can i point out how good it. How much teamwork it took for them to be able to to save save the world stopped the unity. Like before superman arrived it was everybody was down and cyborg was about to get chopped down. Superman arrives and and he's able to stop stepping wolf. So that was superman like the planet. The is over the plan ends. But then you know you need victor to Go inside The synchronized Go inside the unity. Go inside the mother boxes And then they need bury to give him that charge that push that power to be able to get in there like it was a team effort without without one of the without one of the people there like they would have failed. I mean it was written well that it required everybody to do it. I'll tell we were watching. Sam i look how at the scene where superman enters like you said wonder woman in arthur down. There are under rubble. Running waiting for victor batmans like he left the gun. He's coming and it's one of those like steppenwolf about to take outside work. You're like all now. Everything's gonna fail and then superman up and any freeze breath. The accent shatters interest in. Just you know big deal. I know right must love chow. Subtle to the freeze breath was he just looked at it. And just just just blew just not like not even like like we always see the super breath the freeze breath like a large inhale and a huge exhale. He blew on it and frozen shattered and then delivered that giant cake. And i just love like him punching steppenwolf hitting your that. You know he. He visions him knock seen bag and then just keeps beating down and we get the awesome shot of him over top uses heat vision. Yeah tears right the like in the theatrical version like he comes in from above down into the silo and he's is this guy still bothering you because he comes back from doing the little rescue thing But in this one like when he goes when he starts going to town on steppenwolf he doesn't stop after he puts him into the wall. He flies up and comes back down to hit him. Yeah he and then he keeps pounding them into the ground. Love how everything goes silent and all you hear.

"He was. You know there the whole time. While he wasn't onscreen sonali gets to talk about all this stuff onscreen so his return is pretty much the same as far as footage wise. We get a extra really cool shots of him. After he fights the flash like with the heat visionaries about to shoot the flash. We have a great scene of him walking and the flashes speeding towards him and he just steps out of the way and pushes. The flash into apple man takes both like that. I love that. Because batman just shows up and he's just walking towards that man and You know he is wicked. The heat vision. And bobby's gauntlets try to absorb the heat vision and then you know lowest shows up and stops eight and much more natural normal way. We don't have the stupid to plead line. Incon- up Or or the. Something's definitely bleeding line. Yeah about and doesn't joke on my one of my friends that justin so that recently he's like i don't get it he's like. I don't understand this theatrical release of justice league. we're batmans sitting around joking. He doesn't do that crap. That's not that man. Yeah no the the humor that batman has. Because he's not he has he's not always one hundred percent humorless and the humor that we get from especially in. This movie is so natural and just organic nothing. Nothing is forced. it's not. I don't not like you. You know what. I mean. I when he comes back from the dead. It's none of that. It's it's Alfred i work for him type of humor. Try the more the more and more or less more. He said no he said no. I you know we get the superman scene. Where he's at the house and he's standing there looking at the window and he's like i like to hear you know he's starting you remember and you have him looking out the window at the swing and it's just so much more subtle of.

"That was a really great scene. And it's kinda sad in one respect. It really wasn't martha that was connecting with lois. See everything yeah. I mean it was. It was shot before it. It was probably perhaps intended to be martha When it was shot but then he had the idea to change it But the way the lines that were delivered and since it is marching in hunter. I mean the lines that were delivered. He had to. He had to know like what was going on with martha and what was going on in her head like he had two of us some telepathy to get an insight into her to be able to convince. Lois feel. Yeah i agree. So let's talk so. Let's talk about martha and lois real quick. They're not in the film that much We got the scene of you. Know martha gravestone and driving off. And then we don't see her again until clark shows up and it's a much i told you. I wonder what lois said on the phone to get martha come. Did she say. Hey your son's back or come to the farm quickly like kids when she pulls up like i might man like how would you be as apparently. Hey your son's back from the dead hurry up and get over here. I don't think you can really say it over the phone. Personally i i feel like it would have to be like. Hey i need you to come here like right now because otherwise i don't know she. She looks confused when she first walked up. And then it like dawned on her. You know what probably made news pretty quick that something happened again as memorial park. You mean that we saw any of it but you know. I assume that that would probably make the news pretty quick. Martha would have at least an idea when she heard something from lois. She's like oh. I'm on my way i don't know i mean it. Just kinda depends on the situation. Of course you know being in the middle of like a big city like obviously probably get some kind of You know noticing but at the same time you think about the government and it being you know one of those situations may not want to have out there. You know for the public to see just thinking that superman only fights in that part. I mean that's where he fought side where it started. You know his battle against side. And that's jim stay where it started. And that's where it started when he fought the justice league. So just don't meet superman the part where to fight. But i mean i love how i the scene where he's holding the lowest and his mom like and then like his next line is basically like i have to find out why they brought me back like this strong lowest. Lois in this is much better because bay just trash the character in the theatrical cut. I liked that we get the scene of bringing coffee..

"Step. That makes all right. Bruce are kind of lead as he's navigating this phil. I loved batman even more in this movie. Because this was batman. Like this was bruce. Coming back to humanity. We got more bruce and alfred. We got bruce as optimus even as he's got a great arc through bbs into justly the two movies we we see him at the beginning. We get that you know the scene where he meets. Arthur and i love that you know. Very very bruce wayne like he shows he can speak icelandic. Also like you know. He's just kind of playing dumb as they're talking in their language he's like as he doesn't know what they're saying. I loved it him then he pulls out twenty five thousand dollars and give it to the village. I mean i love that. Arthur takes and then hands it to the kids to give to the village. Did he take it. I thought bruce held it out and then when he lowered him down to the ground the kid just ran by him. Took it that i just looked at. I thought arthur had his head of the kid took it but You know we see bruce on the helicopter with alfred talking about how they found him We'll see what happens. You know The idea that bruce's trying like he's trying to find these people. He's trying to bring a team together. He knows that something's coming. Because alfred evans says it's been a little bit of time. You know since. Luther is warning. Nothing's happened you know. And well he. You know bruce's become. He's one from a waas man with no faith in people you know no hope for humanity. No hope that people can change. That's me became cruel like alfred. Senate bass something that line. Sound upside summed. Up the whole batman arc. There you know that magara superman Now bruce's amana faith You know he. He's having faith and people his he's believing that people can get better that You know he's realizing this the things that he has to do now you know. He has to put his team together. They're bigger things than gotham. And you know. I i was. I watched the snyder cut a few a few times now. going back and forth this evening if you go back to the very beginning of the snyder when superman dies they they show batman there and maybe i'm just crazy. Maybe it's wishful thinking but you. They do the close up of batman space. And you almost see him like cairo. Almost looks teary-eyed like like one superman dies if they go back to like really very very beginning But you see this whole change in the man. And that's why or is just awesome. And i just love athletes batman so much. I like athletes batman so much. Jeremy irons as alfred. I mean possibly even more than the athletes batman You know you have you have him asking.

"He doesn't like doing it because things happen to time. So like the the time reversal to me. That was like it was a foreshadow that we've been getting need off in the end of the exactly subtle it's subtle little if you're not really thinking. Yeah because he because he had to build up the charge he had to approach the speed of light which is what he said and then and then in the end he's like all right gotta do it gotta break got a break. The rule and and run faster far faster than the speed of light. So let's let you know we have. We have really great little moments with berry. Like when he's talking later he's talking to man and he was snacking which i love when they always show the flash eating and you know they talk about what cyborgs about to do. It was a nice little character. Be same thing when he you know from the trailer we saw where he's talking to bruce about you know we can only assume that he's one and all these other worlds so i love. I still admit that how much i love. Billy credit and ezra miller father and son totally his father you know the first seen still is amazing but the second scene is even better because i love the line. There's two lines that get delivered really quickly. I love the line from henry. He says. I taught him nothing. He goes and the getting excited embarrasses. Calm down before you get maced again. I liked that they still had the the. I'm a black hole of snacks. A snack whole. I like that. Still have that in there because it seems organic like he's just talking and like the one thing is you know if you think about it berry talks and moves because his brain is thinking so fast but he's ahead and that's you know if you look at his apartment like it. It's got so many screens on all at once. I you you definitely understand this tyler. Because that's basically you looked at me. We were watching. How are we going to do that. And bear with the power of love. And she's like tyler. That's you that exactly what you say. And i'm like but the screens. You know the multiple screens the constantly talking. Twenty billion miles. Per minute like yeah. That's you yeah. I don't think. I don't think tyler and i have ever actually finished a conversation Just move onto the next topic and a matter of milliseconds. Oh that's just what we call the flow of conversation when tyler. There is no with tyler. Like you know if god is the alpha and omega or or dc comics. Dark sides mega toddlers that section in the middle constantly. Just it has no beginning. It's just going to the next thing and next thing. I mean there's a conversation we start in two thousand eighteen when we met. That still hasn't pitched i mean that's you know he's he's he's frigging berry wally allen armeane. I'll take it anyway to our show so all that to get to. You know the biggest..

"It was quick but we saw that leading up to an idea of who this flashes. But did anyone catch the line. When victor jumps stop steppenwolf than batman jumps down and the flashes down there and he's moving around he takes up a parody and he says this was like this isn't a plan. We're not working together or something like yeah. He said this isn't doing it together. Yeah like he's he's showing buries a team player the he's not trying to showboat he's not trying to be the one to lead the charge like he's very much like all right. I'm gonna play on this team like cooperative. I think We get we see him. What's interesting is we see him. Get shot in the leg and we see slows down right there. You know when they're all getting back onto the night crawler which helps play out later when we see what happens. Yeah and then like the next time. We you know berry does something. He's kickstarting the mother as kick-starting mother box and so brian made agree observation. This part because i was trying to figure out in one respect because if we if we take a step back to bvs. When lois trump's dir on superman coffin the last shot of the film is his coughing but we see the dirt start to come up came. now let's jump to justly. We see the mother box berries you know. He's waiting to go. And victor says no and very said go and then he runs and we see the mother hit the water and the picture go in and then buries coming towards it but then we see it. Start to come up and you know. My first thought was thinking back to that. Batman seeing arming the scene in batman superman with the coffin. But then ryan said before barry ritholtz. He talks about getting to that tweet. That's dangerous because time moves and that was actually berry manipulating time. That pulled the box up so that he could touch it right. At the moment he needs to hit the water he he's that was a moment that he subconsciously manipulated. Time those well. So what what he says is that he when he pro. He could generate enough charge to to kick start to wake up the mother box if he were to run at almost the speed of light..

"Destroy free will in complete control over busy mind body soul of all living things so i watched mostly the steppenwolf kind of scene today when i got home and the dark side talk and and basically genius ray like they don't hit on the equation. Completely mostly what they say is that is it will remove free will and it will allow dark side to fully take over earth as he planned all these years ago and like nothing could stop them. It would eliminate free will and it'll make everybody about him. That's kind of like what they really get. Why and that idea. That's that's where sacking them drew inspiration for that final crisis when dark site has the earth and he has and he has the Anti life equation. So we're kind of moving around. I think maybe we can talk characters. Better then beat by. I really liked the way. Steppenwolf voice sounded miss. Much more like the way you talk it was i like the he looked bigger. And if there's anything negative to say about this first step and we'll kind of wish that maybe he had a little bit more color instead of being just like solid silver in his armor. One shade of silver armor reflected light. It was a little colorful. There was some purples in there and stuff. But i mean in comparison to what we had before i mean. Can we really complain exactly exactly my goodness. It's like night and day at the same time. It's it's scarier and more menacing and also there's something to feel. Even just an inkling of sorrow for him being banished from his home trying to get back there absolutely. There is one thing that solomon said that kind of stuck with me tight tell him he said steppenwolf armor it moves. It keeps moving just like the mother box keeps moving. I thought that was so cool. I six year old to notice. I'm like sweet. Yeah yeah you know. You're talking about the mother. Box in the unity. I mean it's it's interesting how they discussed that. The technology for the apocalyptic technology and the crip. Tony technology is similar. But it has different properties Because from different worlds. And how crypto they have the world engine require these two ships in the tara. Form planets over time. And then the apocalyptic technology i mean that's even more powerful the the unity syncs up and and and the entire planet is gone. I mean if you think about the kerr. Tony and technology. It's a little bit more. Mechanical and the apocalypse in technology is more What did they say that. It was wonder woman. She's asset is so advanced that it seems like magic. Yes like sorcery like sorcery. 'cause they called the people who like wielded they call the mystics and it looks like is decide is maybe one of the last mystics around. Which is they're they're scientists. Right you know staying with kind of were in like the history lesson parkside. Some more points to kind of point out was like I like it the way to get into the temp that we learned this way. That where they shoot. The arrow is in the temple of the amazon's which is what calls to diana and that it's the arrow of artists and that era was actually the key that let's dive into the chamber where she learns the history lesson and now the one part..

"But he's been banished and conquering worlds in dark sides name and he comes across earth and the mother boxes and finally reveals the anti life equation. Again now genia. I know we've talked about this before. Alan and just bring this up because i don't know if you remember the the part that was exciting about when steppenwolf admits the multi-diverse is dark side and polyps exists outside the multi verse so there might be fifty to earth that all have superman. There's only one dark side so there's never like oh the dark side of earth blah blah blah blah. There's only one. So just your dating dollars. The multi-diverse severson the multi versus bidding knowledge other than win berry berry crisis. It was kind of exciting because it just even means even more like how powerful like this earth is and what that means to stop dark side. Yeah can i ask a question. Because i can't remember the skies and the film. Did they ever explain what the anti life equation was no. I don't think so equation. It's like the idea of destroying free though. I'm just saying like as somebody who's viewing it. Who might not understand. What the anti kate yes. I've seen hours. They had said some dark side. We'll speak about. I will rule with anti life and all about to me and it becomes a really a big focal point for steppenwolf. And that's the whole reason. My dark side really wants to come to earth anyway. So it's it's. It's one of those things i wish would have been addressed a little bit more. If if i have anything to complain about. I think i think the only the only addressing to the anti life equation and how bad it is is in the history lesson. I i think because they talk about the. Don't talk about the anti life equation but like it's the way it's weird because it talks about like there wasn't that scene of the pera demon of like a managing turn to a pair demon. They just say that. The world's unity take over or void of life and become his servants becomes pair demons. So i think it kind of gets a little. It gets a little monkey in there. "zack snyder" Discussed on Krypton Report: The Supergirl Podcast

"Today. We're discussing zack. Snyder's justice league premiering on hbo. Max i just want to throw this out there. This will be a spoiler field episode but also out there that i do know that this film was radar. I do think that they could have worked around the language and the violence a little bit. I also as a respectable parent screened the film Search information to find out what content was in the film with that said. My children did see it. My son has been a very huge advocate wanting to watch this since the first trailer dropped and then of course my daughter does well. The violence was quicken up in a lot of the scenes that they didn't notice and it was very video gaming at the same time so that there wasn't anything too harsh for them and as far as the language i'm not a huge fan of but they do have a very loose tongue ain't whom they love who is around a lot whom they hear such words from home with that being said. I just wanted to put that out there before getting had criticism for allowing my young children to see this because i do think that these characters are appeal to children. And it's something. That should be considered. I do you understand artistic integrity and i do understand a vision and i get all that and i just wanted to put that out there. So enjoy the discussion in here with their quick thoughts are my loving children. Who are excited to talk to you. Patrick.

Justice League: A Tribute To Zack Snyder's Daughter

"May of two thousand seventeen. Snyder stepped away from the late stages of production and production. After his twenty year old daughter autumn took her own life and he told the hollywood reporter at the time in my mind. I thought it was a cathartic thing to go back to work to just bury myself and see if that was the way through it but then he said the demands of this job are pretty intense. It is all consuming and in the last two months. I've come to the realization up decided to step back from the movie to be with my family. Be with my kids. You really need me. They are all having a hard time. I'm having a hard time and so the version of this film that we're watching right now. This four hour film dedicated autumn and the proceeds from this film are going to suicide prevention. Which is of course very important. 'cause and there's no reason to make light of any of that stuff i think it's it's actually kind of amazing and kind of beautiful. That zack snyder got a chance to make the movie that he really wanted to make. Despite enduring this horrifically tragic period in his life for his family so in that respect this is kind of miraculous that had

So he came back and you get a cut, where he finishes the movie, and the movie is going to air on HBO, Max, and it is 19 hours long. Four hours long. 19 hours long. And and people are very like people like Pretty sorry there like here, take my money. It's no it's I feel, Max. So it's I think I'm getting it for no money. Are you spending with $15? A month for HBO? Max? Yeah, but I don't view it that way. Okay, So, So you're spending the 15 99 a month, but you don't view it like you're spending the 15 99 a month. "The long awaited Snyder cut of the movie Justice League. It will arrive on HBO, Max. March 18th. Now the Snyder cut is from the film's original co director, Zack Snyder. It will be one full length film, not four separate hourlong episodes like was originally planned, so Justice League was co written and co directed by Snyder and Josh, Sweden. "And so that's in the podcast forever. That's fine. I think with now as we have often discussed end is always the case. Zack snyder news is the best and most important is we can discuss on on the podcast and nothing else can compare to the glory at the crest of the mountain so we might just wanna land this year airplane before we land the plane wanna say. I m heights for the schneider cut. I genuinely hope it fixes everything about that film. Because while i can explain to people while i can explain people into liking batman versus superman i cannot explain people into liking justly so i hope it redeems it to a point where even if people don't like it i can tell them why they should like it. You know that's a. That's a noble enough ambition. I as someone who i were. I think recently realized. I've never actually seen justice league. I was just thinking about superman dawn of justice own will. I thought that whatever that tall bad guy was was steppenwolf apparently was a different guy. Doing day. I would like to say that i look forward to watching a movie that is hated and then i get to see something that is unique and unparalleled in the history of art which is an artist Being given more chances and more money than any artist has ever been given to just go totally wild in the editing bay and really what more can we ask from executives today. Just give art as more money to do what they won and free reign and everything's going to work out in the end. Hopefully fingers crossed. It's crazy to me is the way he says the sentence. Here's one piece of information. Nobody knows the movie is insane and so epic. Here's what you don't know my movie insane epic so insane so epic. You wouldn't even know how insane epic it is. You wouldn't you've not take a four hour version of it. You thought any of my work was good. None of my work was full or hours long. So good in the been good kid. You thought this was my full power. I wonder if there's going to be an intermission in the theatrical version so people can light excuse themselves to re up on their food or use the bathroom or whatever..

Discussing the Show Masks (Spoiler Alert!)

"It struck me as somebody that is is pretty well versed in the in the graphic novel. The absolutely have done something like I say that extends stems from that work so you had this almost impossible task. You had to adapt in a sense. Something that you love and respect and probably idolize is getting a lot of people to yes but also then had to depart from it completely and make it something different. It had to be of it and apart from it. How did you negotiate that very carefully? Also completely totally haphazardly. I mean I think that it was a combination of the energy of a of a bowl in China shop and and then trying to catalog everything that you knocked over and broke so that you could replace it and both things had to happen simultaneously because I think that we went in With a high degree of fear and concern and delicate nece and then very quickly we were just like fuck all of that. Let's just go nuts. And then you had vacillate between those polls and the show sort of happened in the space where we were moving in between the polls because our job storytellers is to make something feel authentic to make could feel real and I wanted this television experience. Because it's not a comic book where you're turning the pages where illustrated cartoon characters I wanted to feel real real and authentic at the same time there's some true ridiculousness happening around the the fringes of this so the first thing that we did and And when I say we at the very beginning of this thing it was this guy. Jeff Jensen I and Jeff and I jeff was a reporter for entertainment weekly remember would write these crazy theories about lost cost under the pseudonym doc Jensen not not quite as soon because his last name is Johnson. Doc in front yes. He doesn't fraud easily easily from my understanding is he did not hold a doctorate in anything. Maybe lost in any way he and I collaborated on tomorrow and and did a lot of world building for that Disney thing but when the third time they came to me and said. Do you WanNa do watchmen and I started kind of feel the beginnings of a glimmer of what it would be about. I texted Jeff and I said I have two questions. The first question is like should there. Be a watchman TV show and then the second is should I do it and I think he responded depends ends and depends and then I was like yeah would you. Would you WanNa do it together. And then he came over and He was the first person that I really bounced a lot of these ideas off of and he and I put together. This list of adjectives A like almost like a recipe list of these are adjectives that we use to describe. The original watchmen. C'mon and if our version if we can check these same adjectives against it almost like a mad libs then than we maybe we earned the name and the first word on the list was original And so now there's this paradox were presented with which is. It's an adaptation of this thing. That already exists. How do you you make it original and I think the gaming of that paradox was still thinking about? Did we game but like that was really the challenge in front of us which was like how does this thing feel like. It's it's it's watchmen. But at the same time it could only feel like it's watchmen if it's taking huge risks when and it feels is like you. You're feeling nervous while you're watching it like A. I don't know what's happening and I don't like it and I don't know where this is going to go next and I'm a little bit scared and not it just scared where it's GonNa go narrative Lee but scared that it could jump the shark. When I read watchmen I could tell you? Twenty instances in over the course of those twelve issues shoes just took my breath away in terms of like. You aren't allowed to do that. I can't believe that just happened like my heart would be racing as I was reading. Thank those issues and to to to try to replicate that emotional sensation for the TV show. That's what we were chasing. Sometimes a we succeeded needed other times. Not but that was the brass ring we were all reaching for. So what we're talking about in many ways is the tone of watchmen and its ambition and and it's fearlessness. And when we begin your series right out of the gates it does seem like you hit those well. At least you hit the ambition and you hit the fearlessness. If watchmen the graphic novel was a meditation perhaps on the morality of heroism. It seems pretty clear from the beginning of your show so that your show is about race period the end it is about race. I want to ask you how much this emphasis on race from. The start was away for you to say not only. This show is the show about race. But I need you to know right now. It is about race Yeah I'M A I. I apologize in advance because I'm not really able to to answer that question articulately yet. And in many ways this my inability to articulate answer that question was replicated in the writer's room on a repeated basis and led to an incredible incredible of conversations. Both difficult in insertive revelatory of certainly from from my standpoint. But what I'll say. Is that the most difficult question and I think that a lot of writers have to answer. Where do you get your ideas from or what? What is a moment of inspiration like what's the flash point and and a lot of the man's to the the question the same way that I will which is like something just happens internally with that just like sort of clicks and slides into place and then at least I feel compelled to get it out out and most of the time for me? Those ideas don't like happen in the shower whereas like Oh this would be a cool idea for television show. It happens because I've read something or I'm listening running to something or I'm emotionally affected by something and essentially what was happening in my life was as the leftovers was ending and I was starting to kind of feel the panic of if I am not entirely sure that I'm ever GonNa WanNa do this again. I'm I'm not having any ideas. In watchmen is just coming at me for the third time. But it's watchmen and it's the you know for me. That's the you know. It's the Rosetta Stone. It's where all began for me. Maybe not the Rosetta Stone. Do More like the black monolith in two thousand one you know where stars yeah. It's it's full of stars quite literally perfect and and an intimidating and right at the time that they asked me the third time because that because they they'd they'd asked me two times is prior. You know once probably two thousand eleven just a couple years after Zack Snyder's movie and then again maybe in two thousand thirteen or twenty fourteen and now I'm thinking it's like twenty seventeen and and I'm placing this time around the time that Charlottesville is happening and I read between the world and many Tallahassee coaches book and I'll I'm just going to be honest with you I read the book because every single white progressive liberal in the in show business was like they say like this. If you read between the world have you read it like like the shame just like you so it's just like you have to read it. You really have to read it and so I was like this. Sounds like an astonishing piece of writing and it and it was when and when I read that. I also read case for reparations which was an essay that he wrote in the Atlantic a couple years? Probably before and in case for reparations which completely. It's both wildly intuitive. It's nothing that you don't already know but the way that it is written in the story that Mr Coates tells is like just changes ages changed the way that I saw the world. In in that essay he mentioned Black Wall Street Tulsa Twenty one and the way that he wrote about it it was just I I wanna say just three or four sentences or just a paragraph as you say it felt like the destruction of a world to me and at that time also Black Panther hadn't come out yet but it had been announced that Ryan Kugler was going to do it in Tallahassee. Coach was writing Black Panther and I was thinking about what Kanda and I was thinking that. If we're Kanda actually existed in the the real world if there was this place of African American exceptionalism I guess in the case of Kanda African exceptionalism but a place that we're only black people lived and they were the best scientists and it was utopia. If white people found out about this place they would destroy it. They burned to the ground. So all of those ideas were kind of like swirling around in my head and then I bought. This book called the burning about Tulsa twenty-one because because of having read and I was just astonished by this story on every single level most of all because I had never heard about it and I felt shame and embarrassment and I would talk to other people like I talked to people of Color and they go. Oh yeah and I talked two white people and they go. What and then I'd start explaining of? This is what happened and I would see them. Start to get feel embarrassed. And then and then disconnect which is what we do when we feel like? We're supposed to know something we don't know it and so all of that stuff was kind of swirling around in my head and the fundamental question that we were asking about doing watchmen is should we do it. And if so why now. And so I- reflected back on. The original watchmen set in one thousand. Nine hundred five of the came out in eighty six and although it takes place in an alternate version of of America it was dealing with a a nuclear standoff handoff between the USSR. America and and it's counting down towards inevitable nuclear destruction on both sides. That's what the that's what the heroes are solving for. It feels else that gets a murder mystery but unbeknownst to us what's really going on the answer to the murder mystery. He has done it is someone is actually trying to save the world world And and I was like so what. What's the big cultural anxiety? Now when you close the comic book and it stays with you and the answer was says. There's a reckoning happening in America as it relates to race. It's not to say that that reckoning wasn't happening during the civil rights movement where it wasn't happening in the the eighties or the nineties but right now as especially after Charlottesville and I remember very specifically Craig like when Charlottesville happened that there was this rhetoric that was happening around where people kept saying. I can't believe they're not wearing masks. They're not wearing masks anymore. The white supremacists are just out there and we can see their faces in shocking shocking. And so that was happening at the same time that. Hbo was saying do you. WanNa do watchmen show masks and I was like what are masks. You know like what happens when and you mix a mask with the administration of the law. That's the central idea of watchmen and then the KKK. Wears masks. And I'm starting to see protesters like Antigua's wary mass. This was long before Hong Kong. But it's like this idea of like covering your face is covering your face a justification for protecting in yourself or are you doing something that you probably shouldn't be or both and then all of that kind of went into the mix at the heart of it in the center of it. Is this remarkable the character that is not a carryover from watchmen but your invention Angela. Apr Sister

Robert Pattinson's Batman Films Are a Trilogy: It's Bruce Wayne in 'Detective Mode,' Says Director

"All right. So this one this story that, that I saw this week. I was very excited to bring into the show tonight, I found it, it, it's not an onion story. And I, particularly think it's hilarious. And you thought it was bad when they announced Ben Affleck, Robert Pattinson is officially the new Batman, the twilight actress set to play the Cape crusader in the Batman director, Matt Reeves film, scheduled for release in June of twenty twenty one Reeves was the filmmaker behind the last planet of the apes sequels athletes starting Batman in two titles directed by San by Zack Snyder Batman versus superman. Dawn of Justice in two thousand seventeen Justice league both films received mixed reviews and we're disappointment for Warner Brothers in its efforts to compete with marvel studios in the superhero. Realm patents in became a star following the breakout success of the five film, twilight franchise in which he portrayed. The vampire Edward Cullen opposite. Kristen stewart's. Bill Swann Jack, you're huge Batman fan, also now team Edwards. Well, okay. So Matt's of bigger, Batman fan than I am. I want to get to this in a moment, but I just had a conversation about this. Earlier today, one there was a great joke. Matt, you'll like this. And somebody said he's the worst vampire ever, because it took him ten years to turn into a bat. That is funny, and I have no problem with it all because the poor guy, I saw his stuff before he did twilight the hell of an actor and then he got pigeonholed into this awful, teeny Bopper, Rama thing that fortunately has given him this thing. He can't live down. So I'm gonna give him a shot. I have no problem with it as a giant Batman, nerd, only because Matt REEs, generally doesn't make crappy movies. So. As movies are really good. He did. Lord. He did the remake of let the right one in and actually generally really good. It's far as remix go, oh, those excellent. Yeah. I mean, he doesn't make bad movies for the most part. So I kind of trust his judgment, and he's he doesn't wanna do the over the top popcorn. Every five minutes and explosion type Batman movie. He wants to do a dark detective Noir story where you are showing Batman, using his skills, I've been wanting to see that in a movie for a really long time. So I'm okay with it. The guys at decent actor. Yeah. I don't know how to do is Bruce, Wayne. I think he'll do fine when he's in the costume you do. Yeah. I think it will. I think it'll be okay I trust Matt Reeves. I mean I don't. You never sold the twilight movies. I've only seen stuff he's done outside light, and it's always been fine.

Breaking Down 'Shazam!'

"Finds itself at an interesting inflection point. I would say I thought she was a very fun and entertaining movie, but it did not really feel like anything that had come in the DC universe before. And you kind of explain to me. What should I am is? And what it's trying to do. Sure. I mean, I kind of had the. To do the same thing after watching the movie because like right around the time the post credits scene with a evil Caterpillar happened. I was kinda like I've no idea what any of this stuff is. So thankfully, Mike does have a a piece on the ring dot com. A great website kind of breaking down the kind of Kazan origins. But yeah, he's he was actually originally called captain marvel and like in the movie there was like a wizard named 'schisms who gave him like all these superpowers. But when he sorta got folded into DC comics because marvel had its own captain marvel he then became Zam. But the whole spiel is basically the same thing like the wizards powers you activate it by saying Zam, and then I guess in the big conversion you just become buff, Zachary Levi. Yeah, I didn't even know buff Zachary Levi was going to be a thing that I would ever have to talk about. I can't say when I was watching Chuck ten years ago. That this ever crossed my mind that he would be a superhero, I think Tony Lee. This movie is pretty significantly different from superman vs Batman and the Justice league films and even wonder woman, which I thought was you know, is a very charming and obviously hugely successful movie. But there is a lightness in the tone, and it's not quite as operatic goofy. As was l-. You know, what did you make of the kind of movie that Sam was trying to be yet? No, I thought it was fun at kind of had like almost throwback Amblin entertainment coming of age vibe like something you'd see from like Amblin in like the eighties. But with the caveat that instead of a kid going on venture or something he can just become a superhero. But I thought it was a it was it was kind of an appropriate tone for for the kind of here that this guy is and I kind of like that, you know, a kid like a teenager becoming Kazan like he has like a bit of an aimlessness to him at the beginning. Like, there's not the sort of great power with great with great power comes great responsibility type speech. You just sorta has to learn things on the fly Yemen. One of the first things that the character does after he realizes his powers as he just goes to a convenience store in buys beer and candy. And you know, I it, you know, the movies clearly pitched as sort of what if big, but superhero, and it's very effective in showing us like maybe not with the real world ramifications would be because it's a little bit different in tone in the real world. But some of the like aspirations that you have as an adolescent, and the things that you wish you could do when you were thirteen sham does for the first hour of this movie, and the movie ultimately just becomes a story about like friendship and the way that we act bigger and older than we are. And what we can get away with in that time. And then it does turned into a little bit of a superhero movie. What did you make of the kind of balancing of those tones? Yeah. I mean, I think I did prefer sort of the the first half of the move. In that respect, as you know, there are so many superhero movies out there. And I think for the most part it's sorta gets derivative to when the movie gets the guy discovers his powers, you know, like Peter Parker, like scaling skyscrapers type of thing. But it was fun for Suzanne because it felt very like very genuine response. What if a fourteen year old kids suddenly had powers like, yeah? He would try to buy beer. He would go to script strip club in like beam about the chicken wings because this is a PG thirteen movie. You know, if he's in a world where superman Batman exists, and he doesn't really know. What to do is? You just if he can't find people to save is he just going to he's going to try to make cash and become a YouTube star. It was an interesting approach. But I think like I preferred that half of the movie versus like, the Mark strong shows up with seven CGI deadly sin, archetypes, or whatever. And it's time to punch him a lot. Yeah. I agree. I don't think part was active. It's funny because it feels like a movie like this, which is not exactly a reinvention. But is a is a reconsidering of what these kinds of movies can be still does arrive and its conclusion at the notion that needs to feature a lot of punching and a lot of fighting the bad guy. I'm curious to see if as we grow inside, the D C E U, I guess much like Zam. If they'll ever change the the the approach that they take having kind of the final showdown in the final forty five minutes of the movie that was also one of my struggles. Honestly with wonder woman, which I thought as I said was really clever and well made and then ultimately just turned into Diana fighting a demon monster who was played by David through Lous. What do you make of the decisions that DC is now making to singular is each of their movies? I mean, it's interesting because like, you know, they they did a pretty quick pivot from like fast-tracking their Justice league movie which end up being like relative to the expectations a bit of a bomb for them. Also, it didn't really track critically. But you know, they're kind of like making these films that have this very little interconnectivity like aquaman was only really playing the seeds for Auckland to and I guess a trench spinoff, which I could go on like a twenty minutes handed about the trench about the trend. Can't wait for the trench. And like kind of the same thing with wonder woman sequel in feels that way, which is. To you know, if it does well enough at the box office like affiliates just leading into sham two or maybe like a black atom movie, which is like a sham villain. That's supposed to be played by Dwayne Johnson. If you look at like the C projects that are in the air like a rebooted suicide squad, James Gunn, new bad movie. Perhaps a flash movie there's all these other projects like the one glaring omission is there are no plans to make like a Justice league to and not to say that would never happen again. But clearly like the D C you right now is content. Just kind of throwing stuff out there and seeing what resonates with audiences yet. If you look down there slate, we talked about this a little bit during the release of aquaman, but I was just in add an in Vegas at cinema Khan. And they were very proud of the approach that they were taking telling their stories because the next the next handful of movies. They have is of course, Zam, and you know, they also have joker which is coming in October. Which also feels quite standalone seems to have virtually nothing in common with the movie Lakesha Zam. And then there's also a birds of prey which is. Theon story of sort of five superhero team that will also include Margot Robbie Harley Quinn, and that totally and visually looks completely different from those other two movies. And so they've taken this decision to not just make that flash movie and not just make whatever inevitable green lantern movie. And with the same kind of stormy visualises that that Zack Snyder created, but to just kind of individually each story, which is what a lot of comic books are actually a lot of comic books have separate illustrators. They have separate writers their tones are quite different amazing spider. Man could be quite different from x men and superman could be quite different from, you know, detective comics, and what's going on with that, man. And of course, I guess next year late next year. We'll have the Batman which Matt Reeves Batman movie. Do you know, your your very closely track the comp films for us is it more interesting to you of all of this the fits together or do you like it better? If it stands alone and the movies get to be what they are. Well, I. Kind of like maybe I just have a bit of a marble fatigue. Just because it feels like we've been preparing for endgame like just just forever. But yeah, I kind of like this approach because you know, like, if something doesn't, you know resonate with with audiences like I personally wasn't as big of a fan as as wonder woman as other people were which is fine. You know, I I like parts of it. But, but you know, for the most part people really enjoyed it. And I think you know, it's an interesting approach. I think what will probably be most interesting is with wonder woman command and Zam they've all been pretty well received. And they've made a good amount of money. I'm curious what happens like how the DC EU responds when something flops with critics audiences in the box office. Do they like shake it off? Or if it's like, if it's bracing a certain tone, like, you know, let's say joker is actually quite terrible. And and you know, it's like a Scorsese prestige that. Just kind of doesn't work like will the DC you kinda void being that experimental. Again. I I'm curious to see what happens when there's kind of like a speed bump on the road for them. I am too is an interesting question because it does seem like in with Shas AM and most likely joker and handful of these other movies. They don't come with that two hundred and fifty million dollar production price tag. You know, they're definitely smaller movies with more modest ambitions, at least in terms of the execution of the movie. And so the risk is lower. So if let's say joker is not the sort of world-beating, cultural colossus that many would have us believe this week. That's okay. I think that they could probably survive that. And it's an you're right. It is a really interesting pivot away from all of that interconnectiveness. Is there anything else about his that you you really liked and you responded to? Yeah. I really like that, you know, I thought Zachary Levi was was just so good at like kind of capturing basically like, you know, a kid in a swollen dealt spot ended it so well like there were times where you almost felt to childlike for guy who's still like fourteen years old, but you could tell he was just having such a blast. And and yeah, I would have never expected Chuck would be like a swollen superhero. But I never expected Jim from the office to like, you know, make some hard movie also become buffer like Michael bay film. So I I guess, you know sick. I'm stars. They can transform. Yeah. Could you cast a sitcom debauche sitcom figure into into a superhero movie right now is there? Anybody springs to your mind? Is Jim Parsons our next. Green lantern. You think? Oh god. No, no. I'm trying to think of like if someone from parks and rec ado that transformation that isn't Chris Pratt. Because I mean, he's he's just forget about this point. He's he's like a discount printing. Frazier. But he he has done that as well. I mean, I guess maybe if if Adam Scott were cast as as galactic that would probably that. That's as close as we're gonna get

"But most of the live action Disney adaptations have been of like the Walt Disney classics. And this is the first it's kind like not like one of those beloved fairytale stories that they're trying to adapt. I guess, lady and the tramp isn't a fairytale story either. But you know, every time I go to Disneyland, the stitch merchandises like out of control there is like they sell so much merchandise based on that movie I, it was only a matter of time before this is going to happen. I can imagine that stitch will be like a CG creation and we'll have a young, Hawaiian star kind of I almost picture kind of like, you know. It would being optimistic here, Chris, but I think if done right, this could be like a fun mwana. I've action kind of movie, I guess. I mean, yeah, there's material is there to do something good. It's just, I don't know. I'm just getting. This film was so recent. There's really no reason for Disney to remake it. I don't know why they're so hell bent them. I mean, I know why they wanna make money, but. It's getting a little tiresome. There's remaking everything, but there's definitely the chance this could turn out. Well in the movie has such great style has some good music, but it doesn't really have a strong story, Brad. Do you have any connection with Leland Stitcher? You excited for live action remake. I really liked to Leila Wednesday, which when it came out, it's not one of my favorites or anything like that. But I think that it's it's pretty funny and I can see where it had the potential for like maybe like an Amblin kind of style live action movie because it had has flares t. and things like that. But it's also a little bit bigger and more cartoony than that because you know, there's the
