Investing in Bitcoin

"All right we are joined today by zach. Prince and ceo of block fight zach. Thank you so much for coming on today. Guys them so pumped to be here. I listened to your show every week for the first time. I've been nervous to go on a podcast public speaking in a while. Because i'm just so happy to be herbs so excited to be the first guest talking about cryptocurrency on the animal spirits. Podcast i think is a longtime Well thank you for saying that. We are excited as well. We actually started this pocket. And i were just talking about this in november twenty seventeen so right into the teeth of bitcoin mania and we'll get into two point out. I don't think it's quite the say manic fever that we saw in december twenty seventeen. But why don't we just start off briefly for those who don't know anything about you. Give us a quick introduction. Who are you zach. The founder and ceo blocked by. I grew up in texas. I was always kind of an entrepreneurial slash math in finance minded kid. I guess i actually put myself through college as a semi professional online poker player so unlike a lot of folks are generation unfortunate to not be carrying a big amount of college debt. I always wanted to work in the financial services industry. But i finished school in may of two thousand nine so i ended up working in an advertising technology startup that was ultimately a really successful venture. We got acquired by google. I spend a little bit of time at google but learned that. I really enjoyed building things and being at smaller companies left google to start another ad tech business that got acquired and then more recently and most relevant for blocked by i was working in the fintech sector specifically the online lending side of fintech. So there was a big boom in that industry appear to peer lending online lending and alternative investing and i worked at one of the companies. That was the biggest aggregation of data provider of technology solutions to institutional investment firms that were participating in that asset class. When i was doing nat i became kind of like the fintech guy within my friend group and i started writing a blog which i don't think rather i just i didn't stay with it as well as the Clogs and built up a readership but writing. This blog is what led me to discover bitcoin for the first time back in twenty fourteen and one of the things that struck me about it initially was a lot of what happens in fintech is just a new front end on top of the traditional financial system. So you're doing something that banks already do but you're doing it with a mobile app with a much better user experience and it's faster and easier. You don't have to go onto a branch when i learned about big like. Wow this is something truly different. You've got a brand new asset built on top of payment network where i can move something around the world. Twenty four seven and it's not using any part of the traditional financial ecosystem. So i was screaming to no one on this blog and twenty fourteen. I think you should be taking a flyer on bitcoin. Maybe it goes to zero. But with a little bit of capital you should be investing in it and then from there kind of slowly and steadily went down. What people in the crypto currency industry referred to as the rabbit hole and ended up starting block five around the same time. You'll start started this podcasts. In the fall of two thousand seventeen to before we get into what blocked by does specifically. How do you explain bitcoin. Someone who thinks they know what it means or has no idea in is never really entered. This base of workers obviously digital ledger been well. I mean i think one of the actual biggest positives about bitcoin. The fact that the narrative seems to change so many times over the years. But how do you explain it to someone who doesn't really know what it is one of the things. I like to start with when i'm explaining bitcoin. People is the best analogy and kind of story. That i've ever heard demystified a little bit and the story is actually about the platypus. So back in the sixteen hundreds explorers from europe. We're going all around the world. They got australia. They found the platypus and they sent some specimens back to europe on the ship and the scientists back in europe rigidly thought. They were playing twisted joke on them. And they're like this animal can't be real. You stapled together a duck in beaver and you're telling us this thing lays eggs like there's no way this is a real animal. It took the scientific community about fifty years to actually accept. The planet was a real animal. Create a little part of the animal classification kingdom that incorporated the platypus. Another funky animals like it but the platypus was very real and the problem that bitcoin is had is kind of this platypus problem in the traditional financial services industry. Where is it. A currency is it. An asset is it. A commodity is security is at a payment network. Well it's not really any one of those things in a silo. It's a little bit of all those things and it's something completely new but it definitely exists and the reaction from votes whether it's jamie diamond or others who are now coming around to it but back in twenty seventeen. They were saying bitcoin fraud. It's a scam. It's only used by folks who are doing illegal activities. Those types of things come from a position of not actually understanding.

George Clooney reveals how and why he gifted 14 friends $1 million cash

"Shall we talk about george clooney. I'd love to. I mean it's great stuff. What a joy to wake up on a tuesday morning and just find a profile of george clooney and cheeky magazine. I mean i can't ask for much more in this life First of all this is the man of the year man of the year issue. An annual occurrence for gpo usually accompanied by a party or parties. there's some kind of fun. Dj set online slash than doesn't sound fun. at all. i mean george clooney is just like the de facto celebrity to me. It's just like you've for for me. Just because i love him so much more so than brad pitt. Who is you know. One of our animating figures. Of course their friends part of both their charm. George clooney has always been lovable because of playing doug on er those politics both of which are part of this piece. But i just feel like this was like best case scenario for a celebrity profile. What stood out about it to you. This is slightly awkward as we noted. Your husband wrote this but you know. Just talk about his work. Yeah let me see. I was not involved in this process and just reading it. You know differently than i feel like i know the man who wrote this you sleep. You wanna say through this these interviews were done over. Zoom as the as the peace explains for a number of reasons but for the health and safety of everyone in this time so like they were done in my house on and afterwards i was thinking about the fact that george has such a distinctive voice that i should have just stood outside the door and listened to george clooney talking like through the door. Because i don't think i think act just uses the zoom without headphones for these interviews. I don't think he wants to bring bluetooth into this experience. And screw it up even more. So i i regret not standing outside the door like a creep and listening to george. Clooney talk and i didn't do that so i really. I have no behind the scenes information. I just absolutely charming. And that's why you want from george clooney right you want him to be a like cary grant but for now and i just like a hugely charming informed person that you want to spend time with. I honestly want that more. From george clooney than i want like a movie directed by george clooney at this point or movie starring george clooney. You know there are many movies starring. George clooney that. I really enjoy but i just. I'm happy for him as like capital g capital. See george clooney. And what's nice about. The profile is that he seems to know that too and he's just like let me give you some more george clooney stuff and let me just tell you about how much i love my wife for awhile and let me just tell you how acting works. I thought that stuff was so fascinating. I love it when really talented people just like switch into their genius mode and like i'm gonna tell you this and i'm going to tell you this and he tells a story about e. r. n. Any tells another story and he's just like annotating the scene and it's like talking to someone who knows a ton of stuff. I thought that was fascinating. He shares an anecdote from steven spielberg students. Billboard tells them to stop moving his head so much. And i loved that because doug ross did move his head a lot especially when talking to carol. You assert like trying to like burrow into the moment. And it's like dude. You don't need to your doug fucking rossier water. Attrition your renegade pediatrician. He also so happy that zach got him to talk about the time he gave his fourteen friends. Each one million dollars in cash on honestly the details are so much better than you ever could have hoped for. This story came out. I think like almost two years ago. We talked about it at the time. I think randy gerber shared the information. Right yes and then. I think we talked about it on jam session and zack knew about it. And then zach wanted to ask you about it. So i'm gonna credit usually with that particular. Thank you thank you so much. Thank you so much zach. So george clooney like basically impersonated danny ocean one day. Although i think the other takeaways like owed any ocean it's probably a lot like george clooney and he got a florist ban that he rented for the day and drove to an unnamed location. Downtown los angeles richardson. huge vaults. Like just stacks of cash literally. It's kind of like the way they portrayed the vault in die hard three. you know. there's like all that cash. What i guess the vault i was imagining i skipped ahead. Because there's an ocean's eleven here too but keep telling this story you're doing great. I won't interrupt. He goes down like multiple levels below ground and just gets tons of cash and then puts a a million dollars in two fourteen different to me. Suitcases he says that it's much lighter than you would think. And then he loads it into the van and he drives away then. He gives his friends the money. And yeah the reference. The correlation to ocean eleven is shocking. It's stunning right right. There is like i can see the duffle bags of money notions eleven being carried out of the blasio and it is absolutely that and they also commandeered a swat car that like it's very similarly ban also underground the whole thing is like it's hard to believe it's real george clooney. Actually i made that up. It's not how i did it. And he just was like. This is the antidote. I'm gonna tell. I also surprised because it's like so close to the movie.

Turning Your Passion Into Sustainable Work with Zachariah Moreno

"Hello welcome to go bam good morning. We're actually doing this during coffee. Time my favorite time of day. Thank you for having me. Thank you for coming on so zach. Tell us who you are. What's your heritage where you come from. I'm a mexican. American here in california oakland more specifically from the central valley of california grew up can actually west sacramento. You know went to school. They're pretty normal. Giant mexican family in california and Always had a love for creativity and art and different forms of expressing the that creativity so throughout my journey. That has come to life in a couple of different. Mediums started in kind of ink on paper transition to acrylic on canvas. art shows. Some awards wanted to do that professionally struggled to find a way to actually passion into sustainable work. Glad i saw that problem as early as i did. But then you know it always had an affinity for technology because of my my father's background been privileged to To be exposed to some technology pretty pretty early on and then i realized i could combine those two things together and make artwork and creativity with technology with squad. Cast is kind of the most recent body of that and that's actually another level of helping others be creative and connect and be creative with each other with their guests to record podcast interviews. That sound awesome from anywhere in the world. They do okay. So we're gonna pack all that story because this is what we do. So you're mexican american. Are you first generation. Second third generation. Right hey do how is that. I'm i yeah. I've actually thought about you know. My grandparents were barely born in the united states. A believe their family crossed the border into texas when they were like. I think my grandpa was actually. My grandmother was actually pregnant with him. when she came to america and i believe my grandma was a little girl when they crossed over into texas so work their way over to california and my grandpa was very fortunate to have an uncle who owned some farmland essentially in in the central valley here in in yolo county. They were farmworkers. The added bonus that he had is that his uncle rufus. I've never really gotten this full story. But he was able to own his own farm so he of course worked with farmworkers. They were out there in the field with them every day. My grandma grandpa learned to drive was he was super young was driving people back and forth from the fields and he's got gnarly scars all over his legs from like being out in in the different agricultural environments and walking around out there all day you know really exposed to that lifestyle and then became a sheriff's officer and later most of his career. He was a one of the best saw filers on the west coast. That's not a job really anymore. What is it at the time. These giant lumber companies would need these giant saw blades to take the raw number that they would bring in kind of millet down into usable lumber. So my grandpa started out in the yard stacking green lumber which is full of water. So it's incredibly woods heavy anyway but when it's fresh like that it's incredibly heavy so i'm sure he was pretty ripped back then he still is. He's in his nineties now. He's my favorite person and worked his way up to I guess it's kind of an apprentice situation where studied under somebody. He can take a piece of metal and make a giant saab laid out of it and Make that saw blade last for a very long time. And i guess there's very few people who can do that. He was very skilled skilled craftsman still to this day. Does a lot of woodworking and he's ninety nine only has he taught you how to make a late. He's taught me like on paper and shown me. He has a workshop that i helped build and we built in his backyard woodworking shop. And so does my dad. So this is what i mean about like creativity and craftsmanship. I think it goes very deep like my grandpa's. He's not a like a graphic artist. He's a very skilled technical drawing kind of pre autocad so he was What i would say is the first generation and my grandma you know to. That's how they match. She was one of the farm workers on his uncle's farm.

What happened to Philadelphia Eagles' Carson Wentz? From MVP candidate to broken quarterback

"What's happened with Carson Wentz? Because three years ago wince was in the M V P conversation and In a pre Patrick while Holmes World. The answer to the question was, if you could draft any player in the NFL, Carson Wentz was at the top of that list. That obviously has changed. What's happened with Carson. What's happened with him and his accuracy? That's been the bigger thing. Two years ago, he was completing 67 68% of his passes. It's now down to 58% completion percentage. Right. And you know what? Every conversation with porcelain starts this way, so I will, too. He doesn't have a lot around him. You're looking at often flies beat up aging. The receivers around him are just not very good. I mean, he's kind of made Travis fold them look very good. And and maybe he is. Maybe he's gonna have Ah. Great 10 year career for all we know, but he come into the season. You look at the lineup, so some of these guys they went with throwing too. And you just say. It's really not a guy NFL caliber high end receiving court. Zach Ertz is falling off, so you don't even have those that tight end strength anymore. I really haven't had that great of a running games while Sanders been her, you have to start there and I think what it is. Is. I don't think they've I really am for the point that I don't really talk. Trust Doug Peterson. I think that Yeah, I said this on Twitter account of the mark ripping of coaches. Maybe. Where had one great year? You can't deny it was flukey. It was great. It was legitimately great. And nothing else Is Cruz gonna ever come close to that? I just don't know if he's a good coach. It sounds weird for a guy who all coach Bill Belichick in a Super Bowl, but the last three years but really disappointing with their roster, so You get there. The coaching is a good The teammates are good. And then Carson, I think is falling into bad habits, and sometimes we see that stick it where you can't get out of the bad habits. He's forcing things because he knows he has no teammates help him out. Bail him out. He's throwing the ball under pressure. Good. He's not getting a lot of great coaching help, So I think we get to a point where you know all this stuff adds up and he's putting way too much on his shoulders to make a terrible decisions. But you can understand it because one that offense the early turn to and say, all right, bail us out here except Carson Wentz. Yeah, there really aren't many players on that offense that you would be able to say that too.

Posses The Mindset of That like Zacchaeus

"When you look at the personal profile of this that kia's it states that this man was a chief tax collector and very rich in today's terms a chief. Tax collector is equivalent to the head of the revenue office. Usually government officials salaries are a set amount and so it is only right that they should only have a reasonable amount of wealth to make a living but despite being a government official that kills was said to be an enormously reach man. It probably means that he had sat behind an important post and embezzled some back door funds. Even these days it is possible to think that those government officials who owned much land or half palace-like houses are people who sit behind important post being bride with much money. We can't say all of them are like that but it is very difficult for a person to buy even a small house with the amount of salary earned by having worked all throughout his life as a government official yet that person owning much land and having a large house would probably mean nine times out of ten that the person sat behind an important post and received bribes coming in the back door. Whatever the case we could safely assume that zach kia's had filled himself up with the much money he had embezzled. This man named zaccheus being a chief tax collector and man means that he was a person who's worldly status was at a certain level and that he had a large amount of wealth. This that key is only weakness was his very short stature. Zaccheus had an interest in jesus and when he opportunely heard that jesus was going to enter an pass through jericho. He climbed up into a sycamore tree thinking in his heart. Let me for once. See who this. Jesus is by taking this opportunity. Climbing up into a sycamore tree. That was how he got to see. Jesus just in. From underneath the sycamore tree. Jesus saw that site and say zaccheus make haste at come down for today. I'm a stay at your house luke. Chapter nineteen verse by hearing those words zaccheus quickly came down brought jesus to his house and provided a meal as he did so as surprising. Change came about in his heart. Regarding this the bible tells us the following then zakia stood and said to the lord look law art. I give half of my goods to the poor. And if i have taken anything from anyone by false accusation i restore fourfold luke chapter nineteen verse eight after receiving. Jesus that kia's who was a corrupt government official experienced such a surprising change. What happened to zach keys. How did this that kia's react. When he was told by jesus to come down from the sycamore tree. Following jesus words. He came down quickly from the sycamore tree. And a change occurred in his heart as he received. Jesus but what do the scripture passages mean dear fellow believers if you take a look at chapter nineteen verse. Ten it said for the son of man has come to seek and to save that which was lost. The lord came to seek and to say those who were lost in other words today. Scripture passage is telling us that jesus came to this earth to seek people who are like this that keys and save them when we look at zakia us. We can see that. He had strengths and weaknesses such as being a chief tax collector rich and short in stature however regardless of such humanly things. It is clear that kia's harked with headed toward jesus

Why Do We Do Good and What is the Role of the Holy Spirit?

"An argument has developed over I. Think we. and. You can't be good on the low and you can't be good. Jesus. Either you're saying this both ways can't be exactly Jesus didn't have any effect like, Hey, you character agree one hundred percent wrong. Here. I'll give you four words just for the audience. And this this to me is how you learn. Because we both agree that Jesus. is where salvation occurs right? That's correct. So we're good and we love each other. So everybody were all family. We're all touchy feely today. However. The wording. Is We Zach Anna are on one side and you're on the other I have four words. Four words. To. As. The foundation of my argument and it comes from a letter written to the glacier and who thought. In Synopsis Form here. How will I say this who thought that? They needed salvation in Jesus plus. something. that. They could do. Now, in this case, it was circumcision, but to me, it can be anything. And that was a statement made and I'm getting to the forward. In Gullit relations to twenty. Paul said. I have been. Crucified. With Christ. And here are the forward right after an and. I. No longer. Live. So my point is. You can't do good. If you no longer live. How can that be? Because the next phrase. But Christ lives in me. So that's my whole point. You can't say you so well, how come in I John? On those who do good. Well I'm not sure it is but I'm saying. How can you do good if you no longer live. I John says there's two kinds of people those who do good and those do evil will do good. Why can't do it? So, I Realized that it's no longer I who do it? Where's that verse at? Christ lives in me. The Life I. Live in the body I live by faith and son of God. Who loved me where's that verse that says that it's it's I who no longer had the crucified Christ. Increased by I no longer live. That's a different verse. Maybe Colossians three. Let me say. Maybe. It's Romans. Romans. Romans seven says eighteen to. Yeah. This is this is another one. No seventeen seven seventeen as it is it is no longer on myself who do it, but it has since living I know that nothing good lives in me this Paul with Jesus. Yeah. Right, that is immoral sinful nature for I have the desire. To do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do but the evil I do. I do not want to do this I keep on doing. Well, this is this is post. Jesus. So, why why is he wrassling sale? He's going to ask you a question who's going to deliver me from this body of death because he just trying to you once Jesus comes in you say, can you start doing good then sure. But he had but he's in, he's in Jesus I I think that what? He's actually getting semantics well off because he's moving into Romans eight Romans eight is live by the spirit, which is where we get into this conversation last time on. John Fifteen and I think there is a this is a I had a hard time with this up until about twelve years ago because what I kept hearing was do better and be better. At tried it and I tried it and I tried to be yet I thought like Paul that fills here. I felt what a wretched. Man. Am I and every time I tried to do good evil was right there and it's Just I. Felt It. I felt like I couldn't bootstrap myself up and I and I. It's because we grew up in a faith tradition that really didn't have a good doctrine of the Holy Spirit. We didn't talk about the Holy Spirit Yeah. We really if we did it was what will retold he speaks through the written word only what about the inner conviction in my heart that the spirit is my counselor, my helper who's guiding me into all truth. So going back to the do good. I I. Think the Scripture tells us to do our behavior matters but the only way it's less about behavior it's less about works and it's more about what are you desire? What are you want? because. You're going to do what you want most and I think what the spirit is giving us those who submit to the spirit, the spirit as giving us a revelation of the beauty and the wonder of God so that over time my desires can be transformed. You talked about Phil when you are. You back in your sex drugs and rock and roll days like there was a time period. You know 'cause I interviewed you for project work on and when I heard some of the things you're into us man, there was a time period if I came up to you with a with a big fat joint or a scantily clad woman or a bottle. Of Whisky, you would have been tempted to partake in that but if I came to you now that's my point. But now you would not be tempted because the desires of your heart have been transformed over the last forty five years by the spirit because he's revealing to us reality and what it is not right and wrong it's not despair it's not saying. Your neighbors you do An elder must love good. he's got a desire to the older women to teach what is good get the young man set them an example by doing what is good but who is a? Saving you. It's not the already say you're not earning it. It's a free gift. So how do you operate? Well he purified him speak for himself a people who are he's very own and you know what they're eager to do. He. People what is his own and guess what they're eager to do on the PA do good.

"Makes the only situation where you have to wear them any rift and it was like basically like you are insulting a handicapped woman's gift to you if you do not rock these scrub short shorts in the hospital. Oh God I just remember just of all of the nine years I did on scrubs. That was one of the hardest. I laughed just trying to get through that with him. That's the first thing that came to my brain. I love it you know. What was my scrubs woman? It's not a funny moment. Although it was wonderful is actually one of the scripts that I suspect when I was becoming a writer. I'll read your your scrub specs. I don't think I got through it. Isn't that fun? You could read it now for for all the many years in euro and I scrub early on. I had the balls to give it to bill Lawrence and and it literally someone. This isn't an exaggeration. You would see a movie. Someone literally came in from the parking lot and it had a tire track across. Zach this has your name on it. Is this your your what my God. It ended up not only in the parking lot but under a car later even though he laughs at this mountain to but he said later he obviously put it on the roof of his car when he was getting him and then forgotten about it and then drove my God he literally rubbing it. It was literally tire track across the title page. That's like that. Dhl SNL sketches. Where they if a package is laid. You can make it look like it was delayed and the weather the box for you and they run it over with fake tire. And that's what happened to your script. Yeah we talk about your script specs. Oh my mom and I. It's actually heartfelt. Is I know the show was heartfelt. There was the moment where you're guessing how everyone's GonNa die. Do you remember this. You did so many episodes and you're looking at your own reflection and then you have to guess how you're GonNa J. D. is going to die. I don't know maybe anxiety and I was like me like I just never. There had never been a character. We're back to bread butter egg. But I just saw myself in the show I was like. That's my concern is that I'm GonNa get myself to death. Well we were. We've worked at meditation. Exercise and diet and Sweet Lady Val and my baby and a connection delivering spirit. That's my that's my thing because we have fifteen more minutes ten minutes. Maybe I don't WanNa waste this wonderful time. I'm enjoying talking to you so much. So let's do a couple more greatest lessons and we'll get outta here. Has You know whatever you want. What because we're on the topic. What's what's one of the greatest lessons? You've learned about mental health or just happiness. One of the greatest lessons I've learned. Is that so much of what we are anxious and stressed about. We completely made up Something happened a set of facts and then we spun a giant neon around it and then accepted that giant yarn as the truth. And that ball of mayhem is what's causing our anxiety and if you can find a way to cut out all and really be honest with yourself and just cut through and go on. I mean that up now. That was my interpretation. But also if you doing the hacking away hacking you get to like tiny little seed of the of the fact that what happened and upsetting because that could have infinite number of interpretations that's right it's like the easiest example as that. You see a friend across the street and call out and a timmy. And they don't respond. And then you go home and go fucking. Why don't I do too tinny and you start thinking about it must be because of that because that. Oh my God now. I'm stressed and you spend this whole yarn. And then later he calls yours was Hayman a someone told me you saw me. I didn't hear I didn't hear you whatever I'm just making that times. A thousand is how a lot of us live our days. And so lots of powerful thing I've learned is is cutting out all working to cut back on all of the stories we've made up from the facts And getting back to what actually occurred. Yeah it's very very timely. You see a lot of balls of yarn meeting together and making bigger balls of yarn together so it's not facts. It's speculation and it's fear that were fueled by facts. I understand we're living in a scary time. But they can get carried away and they can meet together and make even bigger ones and my great teacher car toys like just focus on. He's like fear is a story of something that might happen dislike. What's happening right now? Let's take precautions. But don't believe your own hype. Don't believe your own stories because it like a lot of things can be waving your friend. Timmy. And you and you just don't know after surrender that that's brilliant. I love now another thing that I think about what is the Is the phrase. I sort of meditated on when I'm having a problem I'll sort of meditate this phrase which is what are you pretending not to know That is to say if I am one hundred percent honest with myself like the most honest. I've ever been with myself on this topic one on my pretending not to know about it and a little interesting things gurgle up. That's great that's great. I feel like for man for me. I'll just speak for myself as a man but I feel like it's whatever I feel like it's often I'm sad or angry. Well you know what I mean like a lot of like my interpretations will be trying to avoid some negative feeling that I don't like to think of myself as having and men often taught that it's not okay to be something more specific it might be very specific to the situation whereas I'm angry might be serving the macro feeling but you can get into the micro by going owing I'm like. Why am I take awhile? It's like it's like it might be a couple of your colonic. Never had a chronic. What have you up with hunter through your back door and then like you know some stuff comes out and then they do it again and then like nothing comes out and they're like oh is that it all of a sudden they do it again and the like this stop. They've eight when you were in fourth grade comes out and I think of this little meditation exercise like that where you can go use ruminated ruminant. Nothing nothing on the and then all of a sudden the fifty what am I pretending? No I I'm you know it could be an example but it could be something like Oh this is causing these stress because I- data data data like it just occurs to you you know so my point is it doesn't necessarily always come up right away you might like. Sometimes I'll just like us on topic as I'm falling asleep. Why why is that situation causing me so much anxiety? What am I pretending not to know about what that one of those? What's going on over there? I love that the last time I had a colonic was one of those ones where they leave you alone. I don't know if you had had one of those. There's kinds where the person is in the room and there's a kind where they get you set up and then you get to do it on your own and that's pretty nice because you can just do it on your own. The woman who cheers I I only went twice and I really WanNa find a place to do it again because it's been years. I'm really liking it. And this woman would like cheer. She was so proud of you for a or releasing. She your yeah. They're they're special people. I it sounds like I'm making a joke. I really mean it. They've gotten over the hurdle they they've taken everybody poops into their heart and they go and they try to like it. They liked you but I couldn't get over that so this woman. This woman came into the room and so they hook you up through the back door. They said any fell. You feel it filling up your yeah and she says you feel you've got to go you let me know that's right. She's so she goes. When you feel like it's it's in there To the point where you can no longer take it push which was standing there and I was like yeah I can take more. I can take because I didn't WanNa do it with her in the room so I probably let it fill me up for like three minutes. And she leaves and then after that. When I was a lot I couldn't take it for more than thirty seconds wisely owing now. I'm sorry I just couldn't share with you. I love that. Yeah sorry again. Oh no please. More revealed too much. I'm said too much we both have. And that's that's what will they. Would you know what I almost tweeted it and I was like one of the upsides of not seeing anybody is. There's no way to wonder what people are thinking about you. Because you're not interacting with anybody so he can't be like what Jimmy thank you. Don't you think though that people think about you weigh less than you think they do? Totally welcome to the wisdom of the second half of life. No one gives a shit. Nobody is thinking about. Well I I went through. Someone's look when you die. People are going to be really really really sad. And they're gonNA ball and they're going to be at your funeral and they're going to be holding each other and they're gonNA quivering and they're going to be yelling wide of the universe and then they're going to go eat lunch minutest. Bongo and then they're going to go tonight and then they're going to go eat lunch and I used. That was so funny because every time I've been to a funeral no matter how close the person once you? That's what happens you you you are so distraught and then you go have locks on. Bagel. Yeah I love that that wonderful perspective. I've mentioned it on the last episode but I I was talking about how we watch Time time a time lapse but it's footage where they just put a camera in New York City and like nineteen hundred eight and he just watch it. It's very meditative and he go. Everyone in this needs to get lunch. Everyone in this is worried about their relationships. They're worried about their jobs. They're worried about when they're going to die. There's a beautiful release going. They're all gone not in the sad way in the like. Don't you see that's us to like? Your Shit is only as real as you make it and if you can find some freedom that you are the guy in the bowler hat. It's not a bowler hat. It's an iphone but you are the Guy Walking by the frame that in two hundred years. They're going to go. Oh that Zach braff from that show scrubs He's been gone for two decades to centuries I wrote a play that I'd love for you to read Called all New People and said to me hundred years all new people in that. I write that sentence but I took that from. I took that phrase whoever said it first and called the play all New People and in the play in a reference to the phrase which is one Hundred Years. It'll be all New People. Yes that is equanimity in in pill form. You've given us a lot of guests all New People. I really and if you're Ray Romano it's all New People you remind me of race. I'm not all the time. Both my voice sounded like I think and of course might my career started. Everyone said That we looked alike and in I met him on a red carpet once and he said Oh. It's like like looking in the mirror. Oh I thought he would say I bet he would say something like your what my wife picture. While I'm having sex with her. She fixes me and I looked more like you would the Ray Romano impression with Chisels. And the he adds. We had a lot of fun. You'll have to go. I told you it'd be done at this time. They say on Howard Stern. We've set it all..

"Movie. I she when I haven't really figured it was just just start talking. I start talking and I'm telling her the story of the film and a couple of plays like and I'm not exactly sure what happens there. But anyway and then she was just kind of quietly making knows and then when I was done on after seven minutes she just turned around and hold up the paper she goes. There goes your Allen. Wow it was like it was like a messy but perfectly usable outline of a story and that's I need to go right those scenes. I love that that I feel like I can. I've had that talent for other people where I'll be driving with them in there and I'm just telling me about your life and you're like well that's the opening scene and this is the like it's such. It's like that is a learned skill. I feel like you have to make a lot of stuff to be able to figure out like well. That's it it's there he just. I would lose and do this. And that's your outline that you gotTa tell me about it like it's a tell me Matt pursued England Campfire. It's your turn to tell a really awesome story and you're telling it like it's from your life like are you guys. I have to tell you the craziest fucking story enough because if this happened to my friend you're not gonNA believe this fucking story you're leaning in and you're holding everyone's attention tell the story of the script like that in six minutes. Let's say seven maybe ten minutes whatever it takes but not too much longer than that and then and then whatever you did to hold. Everyone's attention and then we wait. You're not gonNA believe this then turns out she's fucking pregnant or whatever it is and then that's that's that's like that's like the end of the second act but you know what. I mean like your guy. You're you're you can find all the beads of your film in in in that right bringing it back to the basics. I love that I just telling a great fucking story I was just zoom pitching show and I. I really wish we'd had this conversation before that. Because it's never occurred to me to be like I always sorta downplayed and soft cylinders. Let's just talks kind of what it's about and I think that's a good approach but like the fire camp approach for creating it or selling it I think is really zoom pitching because I. I'm sure not everyone who listens to this. Knows what that is in Hollywood which is obviously shutdown. People are already going out to the studios and pitching ideas over. Zoom. And I am I am done. I'm scheduled to do that but I am not yet. How is it will when it was? They were on the books and then I told my agents. I was like I don't want to do it because it sounds like a big belief in my life. If there's one line reason why something bad happened. Don't do it for examples. Easy example you have lung. Cancer he smoked. That's a one line reason so avoid those one line reasons. They passed on my show. We pitched during the epidemic. Like I wanna you WANNA to avoid those one line that having been said. I've heard the gossip that that that people are buying all about buying stuff. Yeah no that's that's why so the first round I was like let's put on hold than the second round One of the producers was like I think we should do it and I actually found it. I it's hard to separate just the fun of talking to four people because it was just nice to sort of socialize right. I thought I thought it was okay on a very practical level. You can have your notes on the screen so you don't have to like you know what I mean like I i. Here's the only note I have on this poster right here. Jd as a guy who wasn't gay but was sensitive and not into sports. That's all I have the only known for the podcast wrote down every shot and dream. We can get to that. Don't worry these avenues prepared. You know I've been trying to prepare when I do mine. I I wrote these while we were talking. You go you think I prefer. I thought you might have prepared. Well you didn't watch which I was hearing my Sam Jones interviews. That's okay dude. Okay I'm going to tell you something fucking weird. I watched the movies Geely valid. I got Stone and we wanted to watch a bad movie and that's sort of one of the most famous bad movies Martin Breasts. I mean I don't know how Martin Brest had such A. The film was bad enough that he said like fuck it. I'm not gonNA make movies anymore really well I know. He hasn't made a film since and he's still alive and he's fucking amazing. That's incredible well. I mean you see a lot I mean I love Affleck. You Got Jaylo Christopher Walken. This is such a long boring point. I'm going to make it real fast. Christopher walken goes in to I guess interrogate but a casual interrogation of two suspects that he thinks maybe did a crime and so interesting because he's not like looking at them directly and he just kind of it looks like he's wasting time and being stupid so even in bats genius not just Christopher Walken the way he played this guy but that investigators really do that. When they're visiting somebody they think might have done a crime. They don't WanNa get too stuck in their rational mind. Did he do it? Didn't he do it as the acting? They just WanNa let that person into their subconscious. So they know that their subconscious in the weeks and months following where they're working on the case that person will be floating around back there like a dream and they'll go like wait because they know a good investigator or a good creator knows that everything important is happening behind the scenes so just let that person in get whatever you can how they eat a sandwich. What what kind of shirt were they wearing? It doesn't matter what they're saying matters how they're saying it. How did they come across to you? And then later you can get into the nitty gritty and that felt very profound to me. I was like that's how a good show should be made. That's a good idea. Should be made. It's like hunting. You don't make eye with a deer you just want it. In your periphery and hear a twig break and keep it subtle. Keep it keep a dream like keep it a theory will so anyway. I what brought that up. I forget because we went on a thing. I'm doing that thing asking the guests to help me with different extensive notes Salamander. I've never been salamander by JD Salamander. Oh my God. Here's the next thing I have for you. By the way this this is a written on the back of Carl Sagan quote ended applies to what you're talking about Iraq right on the show before he says every one of us in the cosmic perspective is precious. If a person disagrees with you let him live in one hundred billion galaxies. You will not find another. That's exactly what you were saying when you were like I wanNA pull my hair and touches want to be unique. Everybody is unique even if they're not playing that game. Yeah let's talk about what one of the things that I took a note on which was giving up on a dream. What is What's the most important lesson you've learned about pursuing a dream just not giving up my father used to say this This little I don't know what is allegory that I'm unaware he heard it but the idea was a guy who says I wanNA. I WANNA get over that fence. I don't see I'm going to get over that fence fences way too high but I gotta get over that fence and and he takes his hat off any throws it over the fence. I loved us. Yeah throw your hat over the fence. And then he's like now. I gotta get over the fence. My second hand is over there. I love it. Had Lots of stories like little little will allegories. If you will like that and I I So I just think about not not getting stops not I mean. I've had you know in in my career. I've been doing this for my first part was when I was fourteen years old And I've been doing it on and off since then. I mean pretty on since my early twenties and I I you know you have ups and downs. You have things at work things that don't but one thing I I've learned. Is that if you just. Don't give up on certain things you can't possibly fail. I mean everybody past garden state really everybody past garden state name names. I'm just kidding. All the names all then what happened. I'm sorry I'm sure you've told this story before. But everybody pass. Why do why do I have it on? Dvd what happened in a nutshell was it was it was. It was set up a Jersey films but we didn't have finance and And no one no one would know would pay for it At the time the budget was about six million dollars and we just couldn't find a financier and there was one little mini mini studio. I think that was going to do it but they wanted to. Split it with a with a with an equity partner. Some individual would come in with with money and I found this guy named Gary Gilbert. He's he and his brother. Dan Gilbert own quicken loans and they own the Cleveland Cavaliers now And they is Gary wanted to get into film producing and so I was sort of first test case. He came this with this smaller studio and they presented the business model. We go in the parking lot. And he's like I don't know anything about Hollywood but that's the stupidest business model I've ever heard of my life like I just makes no sense from a business point of view he goes. Is there any way you could make this movie for half of that because if you can pay for the whole thing myself and we were like give a second thought we thought everything.

"Right? I think I would have trouble writing something. That isn't personal. I mean I I. Can we write that stuff all the time? I I've done punch-up on scripts I've I've worked on things that in terms of starting from scratch looking at a blank cursor blinking. I don't think I I I I have the discipline or the passion to write. Something would come fucking ache in my heart. Well then I. You'RE GONNA know this already what I will do you right. Like like a spy thriller like I just don't think I could do it. I don't think I would think it. Good because here's why no matter what your computer. And if we load the spy thriller into the Zach Braff Computer. It's going to come out. Zack graphic hiding. That's what's so fun. The SAD indie music spy. Why the shootings playing? It just happened that way. He's in a white Tuxedo. I working on a science fiction thing right now which I'm really excited about. I believe you like I love when the dad says Scientific fiction I'll scientific fiction maybe But I was like oh can I started writing what I thought. A spectrum me nerd programmer would be like and then instead and this was a big breakthrough for me. I am this pandemic Obviously my heart goes out to all the suffering. One of the things it's doing in my experience is helping me get in touch with the part of me. That isn't asked for coding nerd. You know what I mean. I'm I'm in the back. I'm in this office with the blinds drawn with a noise canceling headphones on playing electronic music. So I can get in the zone. And then I'm like that's what a coder does. This is me like you. That that breakthrough in you're like oh but I gotta find a guy who doesn't really know what friendships are relationships like Pete. You're a terrible fred. You're like you're you're constantly struggling how to understand human relationships. Just fine that part of you the whole mosaic of Peter the Hamas Saic Zach. It's not indie music or are just poetry and and and loving human conversation in connection. There's so much else going on which is lean into different parts. Don't you feel course and but also it takes a certain something to get your ass in a chair everyday for shooting to do it and I think I imagine if someone you're done structure for me and said okay. Yeah I'm really good when people when someone goes okay. This is the scene. Here's what needs to happen and you get these characters from point. A. TO POINT B. I need and this is the same and this has to come. I can write that fucking all day long where this but in terms of going way. Okay numbers the chase on the roof..

I sure hope everybody is happy and healthy and staying safe in all of this. My heart goes out to everybody. That's going through a rough time. I hope a little Some laughs will be helpful. This is a funny episode of the deep episode. Just exact he's funny and he's deep and I love him. He was great. Let's get to it as I always say as quickly as possible. We do talk a lot about his movie. Which was here which I highly recommend. I think I mentioned that. Valentine's going through directors and we went through our Zach. Braff moment there and we watched it Along with others and I highly recommended. We talked about that. If you haven't seen it check it out and in the meantime I wanNA thank very very much our sponsors. The Pete's picks as you guys know I only do ads. I don't do traditional ads for things that I actually love. Things like Catava could Chavis. Basically how I'm getting my nutrition. These days almost exclusively. It's so hard to get a raw food diet. I'm a little bit paranoid about raw food to be honest There's a Sushi debate going on with my friends. I lean away but the way that I'm getting. My plants is catava eating it before all this but I share them swearing by now. It is a plant based superfood. "Human beings acting as bad news and I just wish we would stop society to chat about it. There used to be futurist. Welcome back beautyrest for that. Work for the government that would predict these social changes and shifts. And then I think what happened. I May I would assume all those people wouldn't work for businesses to predict to make money so it's a it's interesting all this stuff and then when you're my age you're going to be wondering what happened. Also I mean it's generational some of this stuff to me. I mean are you guys online. A lot are you. I'm pretty active on twitter yet to me that I just I just don't I also think America is twitter. I just don't think twitter's a good reflection of what's really going on. Never never have so this chat chat noisy noisy noisy is a waste of time to make nothing of your what not your time but I think as a society were really and it's why we're fighting with each other to just is is. There's no way about it. You can't convince me otherwise so. You're on twitter all the time. I'm not on twitter. It's not just to look at your thing or whatever I mean. I've got to agree with that. I mean look at look at the state of the Union. The Union is twitter. But yeah so so. Is the president so there you go the president's on twitter and he's a great role model. Yeah well maybe as a point but what was. Great was on between two FERNS. Which was his lawyer. Web Comedy series where he plays a withering talkshow host. Who just really mean to his guests and it never gets old. And he's at presidents on the show he had Obama. Yeah which was pretty amazing. I have to know what is it like to be the last black president seriously. What's it like for this to be the last time you ever talked to a stink though that you can't run you know three times you know? Actually I think it's a good idea It off I ran a third time and be sort of like doing a third hangover. Movie didn't really work out very well now. I have to say that I've seen this show before and Some of the episodes of probably been a little bit better than this for example. The one with Bradley Cooper that was a great Maryland kind of carried. That movie didn't he which which film The those hangover movies B basically. He carried them yeah. Everybody loves Bradley. Could for him. Good looking guy being like that in Hollywood. That's easy tall handsome. Be Short fat and smell like Doritos and try to make it Hollywood but that lead into an interesting discussion about our current president. What would you ask? What if you know he who shall not be named our president was On between two ferns like what question would you ask me? I don't assume he goes to therapy. But if he did I would ask how many therapists committed suicide. But I wouldn't have. I'm not interested in having of course not I mean he he is anti humor. Yeah he's great for humor but he's well we're GONNA waste our energy on on my hero. Well guys I hope you had a good laugh out of Zack's visit. We definitely did. That was a real fun interview. Show where we like to laugh. I think this one broke the laugh. O meter so thank you yeah. It's just so great that he came to do that for us and Just the best guy so much fun to talk with Zak even if the show was supposed to be about the hangover but ended up being about the hangover for ten minutes. But some of our best episodes have strayed far from the subject path yes to discover the highways and byways of an accession of digression. Yes that is that a title sure sounds good but but of course it's doesn't matter when it's entertaining and Zach is always entertaining. We had so much guy. He made us laugh so much. Yes thank you a million Zach for gracing us and to everyone this season and we've had some amazing gas who've told us some amazing stories. We're just so grateful. It really has been kind of surreal. You know you're supposed to pretend to be professional and stuff but a lot of these interviews. I didn't need a laxative to quote. Richard Donner well. That was more than I needed to know. But no thank you. This was the second season of of one of the most enjoyable things I've ever done in my life. So thank you for being here for chip. Thank you for being next to me for it. My Gosh thank you. And thanks for everybody who puts the show together but most of all to our audience. Thank you we know. There are eight zillion a podcast out there so the fact that you started today but the fact that you take your time to sit with me and chip and and our guests and and relive some of these chapters means a great deal to us so thank you and we will be on hiatus a little. Birdie told me that we are coming back for a third season on the to look forward to wow and Until then will see you in Hollywood..

"The nets quarter. Who is where he just? Basically someone did something on his team and he was on the bench just walked on the court now is in Utah that was in Utah. They want to sell. You're not allowed to do that in my right that would. That's kind of the if you notice a lot of a lot of games this year. The benches like their rules rules against. Obviously you can't leave the bench when fights for all right. Someone dunks blocks the shot. You can run all over the court from the bench like they are not policing it. All benches benches are getting out of control. It's like watching Mr Magoo wander through a construction site at this point like they've just going wherever they want. It feels like a pickup game at a place where the actions down on the other end and they're just like shooting layups on west side. You guys get the ball the quarterback that feels like the try outs outs for the guys to come on the an one mix tape exactly the guy the local team that they're trying to put together. There's that phase of it and I'm like it's fun and I have to say it's fun too so it's fun to see Lebron having fun I actually think that's a great thing it's bad it's bad if you're UTAH. But it's like like it's fun to see him enjoying basketball because he knows he doesn't have to be the best dude on the floor. I don't know if he's ever had that. I mean you could argue. Maybe in Miami but not really like yes. Dwayne Wade was there and yes Bosch was there but like the truth is he was still the top dog. You look at this team right now and you watch. Anthony Davis play. And you're like I don't know man. Hana the man here right now. He's the reason the I mean. He's just it's actually. It's just never been easier. I think for both of them right like I think that's the case of like when when Lebron was in Miami he obviously had wade and Wade was like almost right there in terms of quality of player that first those first two years. Here's to where it was a lot of ood. Whose team is this accept? Everyone in Miami said no hassle Bronstein. It's going to be Dwayne Wade. Since his name with with the Lakers. Right now it's become. Lebron is kind of like Allama take these aspects and run that part of the team eighty you do the score right you score and you you protect the rim all handle everything else in. It's it's almost like an Alpha Dog by committee which I don't know that we've ever seen yeah I mean how is I haven't even seen but how is like Kyle Kuzma playing is he. Has He gotten in as is he. He's it for a while yet. He's still coming back to the injury like you'll have a good game a couple of bad games in and he's and he's out again right now I I wouldn't expect much from him until later in the season but the thing is they don't really need him right now. They're good enough the so so so the I mean the Danny Green pickup is just also under under. It's like yeah. He's kind of eased like a poor man's ray out and if you WANNA be he's you know if you want to get into it. But he was easy in that role so Lebron drives just everybody collapses. You're either going to dump it to Anthony Davis or you kick it out Danny Green for a wide open shot. He's GonNa he's GonNa drill a lot of those. Yeah yeah absolutely. He's either a poor man's Sir Alan or a Warren Buffett's generousness. It's one of those or a shirt wearing. Jr Smith Right exactly sure wearing non cellphone throwing into a construction construction site So what okay. So as we you know who who comes out of is it. Is this the Lakers to lose or do we feel like there's magic agic in co like Hawaii is such a winner and obviously Paul. George been playing great recently but I saw. I watched the clippers last night. Play the Sun's not exactly. Lee a tough match-up And I watch Paul George make a steel on a pass high up literally just jumped up up caught. It caught that we're supposed to go somewhere over his head. Like a lob in caught it then took it down and dunked and I was like. Oh Yeah Paul George like I. I had to say that out loud. 'cause I was like oh he could just carry them through an entire series and the playoffs. I mean he's he's been phenomenal in by the way coming back from from shoulder surgery on both shoulders right. So he's still he's still getting back into the mix and so I think as great as the Lakers are. I still think the clippers are the best team basketball. I think they have the best chance championship because they can play big or small. The Lakers can really only played big right now so they can. They can run you out of the. We might see like that's crazy. You may see a western conference five happening all in all the staple center. How going that I want? It's what I'm rooting for it. Because as much as I love to travel cherry also would love two weeks at home while while working a playoff series right like that would be phenomenal law into I have this. They're not going to do it. But the idea I want is if these two teams are playing in the conference finals so it's obviously everything's at Staples Center. The I think the lake. I think the road team that quote unquote row teams should have to stay in a hotel. They should have to diem yet. have to the visitor's visitor's locker room the visitors coaches room which all much smaller than their locker rooms like. I think we should make it some kind of a road Impact for them and instead of just like they get to be in their cozy little home all the share our or do I think what would be so fun and again the NBA could do this. NBA Is Nimble the NBA took an all star game him away from Charlotte because of the bathroom laws and it was already in the and they allow dude. Where like Eric Garner? I can't breathe shirts on the interested in the NFL. Like you can't even like do do a silent protest about police brutality. But here you can do. Here's what I think. I think. What if they were just every other game was the home? You know what I mean like you flip it. It's Lakers clippers. The Lakers Clippers Lakers clippers. Like it could be really. I think just do some different if this is going to happen because I don't think that has that ever happened. No we've we've never we've never had anything close to that and and I think on top of that it would be fun for every other game because right now if you go to a clippers game doc. Rivers has the clippers in in the staples center cover up the banners of the Lakers. Cover up the retired numbers. Not even just that they cover up the Taylor swift sold out banner. That's up there and the staple center. I shut everything she deserves. It saying just saying you know what I mean she. She's long been an enemy of the sklar brothers. We always always love to ask you It's it's not too early we asked you always before you think you think it's the the guess who you think will be in the NBA finals. And who who you think is GonNa waste on this sample. If you don't mind picking the game it goes down in the seven game series. Is it a six. You know what I'm saying clippers. Okay Win Game Six of the NBA finals over the Philadelphia. Seventy sixers wow rate great series. That would be amazing. May's rate series and we might get some Joylin be trash talk on reason. I think they beat the bucks is now. This can change because Janas very good. And he started to figure out a jumper over but the sixers for all their issues on the core in for all their potential problems. They are built to build a wall of defenders between Janas defender Defender and the RIM and. That's what worked last year for Toronto against the bucks and they didn't really. They were so stubborn. They didn't have a backup plan. They just thought they could barrel through and it didn't work obviously And I think the sixers are built for that and I think it'll work and even if they don't win I think and you're right if the clippers are who standing on the other other side in the NBA finals. The clippers have enough bodies. They got enough guys to throw out there. MANTRAS Herrell. I'm telling you. He is the unheralded greatest greatest. I saw Pat Beverley yesterday. Block of Frank Kaminsky. Show that to know why it was eleven on when he was six to me. Box Out Ninety six to maybe he boxed out another dude and got that guy to commit a foul on him he is a past. I love is the bags always frothing at the mouth too. So I think there's a little bit of fear in that from Frank Kaminsky true and I think that level of that level of energy and maybe that is what's missing a little bit that may be is the slight thing that puts it over the edge for the clippers versus the Lakers is that you've got Pat Beverley. You've got mantras Harrell. You have this energy urged and Lou Williams too for that matter more quiet level but like you've got this energy there that exists to aid the superstars so that the energy itself doesn't have to come. I'm from Qui- doesn't have to come from Paul George. It comes from those role players and then allows clippers or like the clippers are like a like a team full of background singers. WHO put out who put out an album last year? That did better than anyone thought. And then they got like two great lead singer Yeah. Didn't they added Mariah Carey. It by the way where they're gonNA lead this guy's GonNa take those you guys had like a gold record last these guys going to join it all right well. Let's take a break break when we come back. There's some crazy stories. That happened in the world of sports. And I know you follow that as well as carpers with us This is the band this man you know. The song is called sunlight. We'll be back with More view for the cheese but really talking some crazy crickets right after this carper of the.

"Things that I think people don't know about you talk to anyone in Minnesota anyone here you are a hellacious worker everyone is like this do whatever whatever the outside perception exactly might be we cannot keep this guy out of the gym and someone from the Wolves told me literally we couldn't keep him out of the gym so flip had to disable his fingerprint from working nighttime in Minnesota so you can get in the gym and is that true so I've got a lot better I that was true it was flip it was it was that period flip got but say I think it was saying Michler took away my it was like my keycard ability okay because after gauge your rookie you have ups and downs you know same as now you have ups and downs so after the games my way of venting would be like going back to Jimmy shooting at night so I'll go back at like eleven twelve o'clock and outshoot five hundred six hundred shots I'll go to practice shoot so they give someone rebounding for you couple times it'll be like my father and my friends lived the sometimes after the game I didn't feel like talking anybody so I'll just go there shoot I'm not somebody WHO's a big party I don't drink a lot you know I go watch movies all my girls I'm like that but if I want to get away like that's my that's like my escape so I go to the gym and shoot and they told you this key card is not going to function after it's now yeah you can't keep coming here and nighttime still have to go up there in the morning I'll be tired obviously in the morning I'll go there early and try get some shots up I'll go lift or whatever and they took it away not find some energy did you find alternative like a local actually someone this is actually something never told anybody so in Minnesota me and my dad are best friends but these out this world crazy how he thinks that thanks so in Minnesota's too cold to go outside to shoot like I used to in California and Seattle so he bought a like a hoop and I had a two story apartment in Minnesota and he put the who on like the stairwell but lowered it to like a I don't know it was like six feet so let's dance I but then put this hoop on top of the stairs it'd be a ten feet so I'll go shoot inside the house and the stair will just touch shots hundred two hundred shots in the house so that's what I would do did you ever break anything might hit a picture on the wall a couple times when the ball bounces uh-huh yes this you know it's worth it you can I could've teaching you have neighbors that could have complained or were you situated is such that there were no navy so it was it was like a it was townhouse for for them a townhouse and that's why you said you'll do it I lived in an apartment that's why I drove to their house and did it so the neighbors really known they they knew aside a couple of pictures and stuff for him too so they could care less I think if I was dribbling a ball at eleven thirty twelve and I want to go through some Minnesota stories Have you seen draft day with Kevin Costner is the Cleveland browns general manager Oh yeah a little do you know where this is going traffic day draft draft does that have to do it like with flip yes on the promise yeah so in the movie draft day this is what I told you could tell me if it's true and I think the characters name has vaunt they MAC and Kevin Costner fee they have the number picking the draft now Kevin Costner in that movie is terrible GM he makes afford terrible trades and gets bailed out in the end but he has slipped paper that says vaunt they Mac no matter what even if you WanNa pick number one and it'll be a controversial number one flip apparently saw this movie what were you thirteenth picks this thirteen thirteen and wrote Zach Levine no matter what you have this piece of paper I told you you'll have it it's it's in my storage unit now with a lot of my minnesota gear back home in Seattle yeah that's amazing it's like a little piece of paper this like a little like a notepad Zach Levine exclamation point that's amazing it doesn't say no matter what I say no matter what Budget Zach Levine with the little thing and I got I have a little Flip Saunders Award and I love that man I loaded family decided family I've always been the best I'm so happy for Ryan is his coaches right now but yeah I have a little because I did a lot of work in the community of Minnesota when I was there so I have this flip Saunders award at they give out every year for consists almost and I had a piece of paper with so Yeah Ryan told Me Ryan told me squad about the piece of paper is easy he said he thought it said Zach Levine no matter what my head I still I just wanted to sit in an exclamation points it was big because I didn't know follows my draft I had twenty two pre draft workouts crazy so I was like slotted from seventh to like second round so I had to work out for every team in between so I didn't well God knew I was in the green room but I couldn't win anywhere so big which is you have said subsequently as your reaction to being picked by the Minnesota temples instantly famous shot it was just shot it wasn't bad I explained that to when when I first walked on the stage you know obviously I was just like I said I had to say really mean it like that what else I was just shocked and then when they're asking me afterwards they're like yeah what about you reaction and I was like I'm extremely excited this net and all the reporters are looking perplexed talking about and then I watched the video of it I'm like Damn I didn't know I did that so it was a little different you know I feel bad for but it was not my reaction Ryan also told me so you get traded to the Bulls on Draft Day X. Years Later Ryan got married about a week after that and he was like well we weren't sure Zach was coming at that point because we just rated and not only did you come took like a couple of flights and you'd like there was some travel mishap but has photo he sent me on my phone yeah you were like the first person that he hugged after the wedding and it's so you were going no matter what yeah I mean it's like I say I understand basketball visit you can't take it too personal because it happens all the time and you know they made a decision that they thought was best for the future reeb yet I have a little bit of like I was mad but then at the same time I'm like I get to go somewhere and I get to become who I think I am so you gotta take it you know you take it the right way but I was going regardless a family friend and it's you know you can't you can't miss those type of things another another team that interviewed you for the draft told me we were shocked and for us it was a good kind of shock at how confident he was in his interview with us in Chicago at the pre-draft Cholera and and I said what are you what did you say how did he cross-company and he said he looked us in the I told US second year in the League I'm going to be an all star Oh yes saying that I I've always been a confident person in my work you can you know whenever interviews with me whenever I step on the floor I think I'm the best player not think I'm the fastest most athletic I'll kept on playing against people Michael Join he has a space jam like I think I'm that good but that's just the mentality that I think I should have when you step on the court I'm not trying to be cocky but it's just the work that you put in my said I think you should have This team liked it we liked I don't I don't remember what I said now obviously was I- all-star at my second year now I still haven't been all star yet but my mentality was lend them no I think that hey look I'm a confident person I think I can get to this point so I think if you as the kind of people who follow the League most closely yeah what is separating exactly the in from being an all-star you're right now I think the most common answer would be defensive talked publicly a lot about how NBA defense has been a challenge for you. Yeah so what's the hardest part about it and how do you think where where are you now I feel a lot better right now I think he's always been my downfall and once once you get like someone saying something about you it's hard to get rid of that narrative so I just have to like almost shut it up as good as I think I am essentially there's no reason I can't dagga defensively I feel like all the tools I have to pull out my two I've always been a really good on bought offender in I haven't been the best off tame defender and that's what the NBA is is team defense so it's more just locking in and realizing this is what you have to do because anybody can play defense you have the Hartford metality is that true do you think that's true I definitely do I definitely do I think anybody can do a system mentality that you have to have the do it because everybody play defense in spurts if you will around the NBA everybody does but everybody's mortgage scored on but you know it's it's just a mentality you have like even going into preseason even now I just had a better mentality of China stay locked in on that end not take any breaks even if I am tired you know if I do a lot on offense I still have to go over there and do it on defense too so trying to take that matchup serious if I'm Gardner best to broaden their point guard like I gotta take it serious and also aw I've been locked into it a lot more a lot of your when Jim says Zach and I watch film together what percentage of that is offense and what percentages defense lately lately lately lately not as many as been defense has been it's just been some of my some of my I'll be real about it like replace a call at the basket I talked to Ref I got to sprint back on like it's got to be one because then that might affect yeah you know I'm the last man in the rotation if somebody in the has no get shot because I was over here or if I'm late on like a a rotation or something like that coming a little bit more forcefully or something like that but mostly it's it's probably been like sixty forty offense defense you know I I feel like I've made I've made up some ground defensively combining John awesome for more coverage visit State Farm Dot Com tell me what happened with the whole long twos analytics thing because I was traveling in l..

Morris is most famous fictional. Zack ever he okay that's the one black spot we have is Zack Morrison we're actually as a lot of black spots on his resume if you watched the Zach more too young to say I'll know that one so you really don't know who's Zach Morris's like noise a total blank it's all over for me Andre he was on a show called say by the Beller you wear say by the well no the slater Kelly capacity okay so in the lobby I saw Jim Boylan yeah and he said you know I just Zach and I were in a great spot right now one of my favorite things is my film sessions hitting the he said in the theater Zaken to theaters like we got to go to movies together the film room yeah in the theater great spot I love it so it didn't necessarily start out this way so now it does appear to be spot but I wanted to take me back what do you remember of the I like seventy two hours of the Jim Boylan regime is I've had a lot of different coaches so either you see how it has to change from Assistant to head coach because it happened with Sam Mitchell and flip passed away fortunately and you can see Code you have some by words like your friend or you can go to him but then they have to step into the head. Coaching role is different they have to have different respect they have to account for everybody on the team that calculator coaches staff stuff like that so it was a little bit different we had to get used to each other but the game man you gotta gotTa gotTa go through the bumps and bruises us so there was the famous practice which turned into a famous not practice yeah how close was it to people going it was just a we need both the coaches and the players needed to give something after a chess I think it was a good thing that happened as bad as there's a good thing to happen because it brought us closer everybody was able to tell the truth me no speak speak from the heart feels good or bad and it helped but I think it was a I think it was more like a player coaches meeting it was it was it was all players meaning that coaches just at the end of the day we all talked to let our feelings out the athletic had a story about this a couple of days ago about you know and and you're you're in their quotas we had to let our feelings out and saying you know we had to establish some ground liberals yes like what does that mean what had to be established like what did what did you personally feel like you had to say at that meeting I was upset because we didn't have we weren't seeing by with how things are being run accountability and even role setting stuff like that and like I said that transition from a coaching periods tough and I think we just had to set some ground rules even for the coaching staff you know how how it will be at some different things on us how we we're GONNA be as players toward the coaches because it's difficult staff it's a different personality that's at the head of the charge so on I think that was the main thing that had to be like set what and it for you and coach Boylan like if you're in a good place right now he's right what what turned it was there a meeting was it him when you got dejected or I don't remember what it was tried to pay his you try to try pays they didn't let me I just I offered to help our relationship out a lot is I I didn't understand how much he cares he he likes generally cares for his players and his might do some quirky things here and narrow like the things that you see that he does is different is his way of showing you know his competitiveness but he's very competitive but he cares about his players and that's something I can respect I remember I was at a game in Toronto in December S. season probably like three weeks took over something like that and that game I think Robin Lopez posted up like twenty five times yeah and Bobby Portis by posted up like twenty more time and I remember a local reporter after the game as Jim in the scrum yeah like is this really how you WanNa play like this is this is the plan and he liked tripled down he didn't just wgn this is how we are playing we're going back to the basics Chemo Lajoie on Blah Blah Blah your high flying shooting guard yeah it was that frustrating it was tough at times because I'm beginning he said we don't have to learn to crawl before we walk I was like man I can run you know so you know I'm a little tough at first but we built it up and was that tries to think we played against the Pacers and we we scored like eighty two points or something like that if I was watching one m m j feels like them versus the Pistons feels like seventy five to eighty he no final score it was tough at first but then we start building up and then we start playing faster we're starting to play faster now in you know I just think we had to he had gained some that trust in like break down the ground rules how we want build up the foundation for how he wanted here's my alledged based on the conversation I just had Jim Boylan fifteen minutes ago which you witnessed on pointing to both Pr Czar not czar but something can you explain the men in black film clip that he showed you it to being the season because he tried to explain it to me and like after four minutes I still did not understand the point he's trying every once in a while he'll show clips and we they're funny we he has a meaning forum he'll sit down and clipped men in black one was infusing it was funny though with the alien right he told me Will Smith is chasing an alien yeah I think it was like determination you know knowing that he outmatched but he can still fight any bring in the flight tool or something like that so he when he introduced it he the alien is called Philipot desperately and that's what I do like about he keeps calling me obsessed with five so I until a few pot if you will Smith and I think you're both take it I'll tell you my nickname I call the most athletic players in the NBA cephalopods p.. I don't remember the movie I saw it but apparently is a very fast and athletic alien yeah I think you guys can make the playoffs but then he said but I want all my players to think that there will Smith Will Smith is a renegade he has an attitude providence overmatched by the Cephalopod thank you both I'll take you where you inspired by this quick did it make you want to have a better season I against them on ways so you got over it with Jim you guys are in a good place now here something that people have been fast forward through about I'm always curious when you were free agent uh-huh the Bulls did not proactively make well maybe they made you an offer to kings signed you to an offer sheet that the Bulls then matched there are lots of cases where there's a lingering bitterness by the player in that situation I go you didn't value me enough I had to go out there another team had devalued me to sign it you you're totally unbothered by this how how do you get past that I understand the business a basketball it's not you know like I said I grew up with a sports father so I just as I understood how it goes they're letting the market set you know they don't WanNa battle against each other if I didn't have especially that year I think there was only like to offer she ah signed it was me and somebody else that lower level obviously but it wasn't a big cat market last couple years or in the future so you just gotTa understand it he's a little bit different but he is he is hilarious so there was a Britney spears like pitcher he actually got in Toronto Ironically might've been that game too when he surged through down yeah I think it might have been like one of those things but he had he had a pitcher Britney Spears in his in his locker at the United Center and it just sat there with with a packer Rollo's manager although obviously He eventually got the picture so he likes Britney Spears another with that do you ever feel like ticketing websites make getting to the event difficult on purpose it's.

"Let's patients see how silly sex can be the doctor started by putting patients and oversized costumes costumes to take the focus off their bodies to talk about erectile dysfunction they use under inflated balloons the final assignment couples must attempt to have sex in the backseat of a tiny clown car in sex therapy and Scotland and your last story of a clown found outside the big top comes from Alonzo Bodden. Getting fired can be tough but at least least the country of New Zealand has a heart when called to what they call a redundancy meeting employees are allowed by law to bring someone with them for emotional support. Most people bring a friend or a spouse advertising exact Josh Thompson brought a clown and emotional support clown they got an email requesting a meeting with management which told him of his legal right to bring support person Josh fearing the worst but hoping for the best said quote I I thought either way it's best to bring in a professional so I pay two hundred dollars. Higher clown sure enough. He was fired but the clown did his job while Josh signed the papers giving him severance. The clown mimed crying big clown tears. Josh did say quote it was rather noisy him making balloon animals so we had to tell him to be quiet from time to time happily a picture taken the redundancy meeting with Josh Dress for business and the clown dress for clowning went viral so everybody came out well. Josh got another job in advertising and presumably the clown. We'll be getting lots. More bookings sure a firing isn't as much fun as a kid's birthday party said the clown but with it chapter two in theaters now a clown can't be too choosy about work all right crown showed up and personnel and spirit in an unusual place and we found out about it this week was it from Bobcat Goldthwait Pootie. The clown sent to a baby shower scares the woman so much the induces labor and then he helps the delivery delivery from Roxanne clowns being used in sex therapy in Scotland just to take the tension out of the equation or from Alonzo an emotional support clown alone accompanied the guy in New Zealand as he was getting fired which of these is the real story of an unexpected clown in the news and as a millennial. I gotta say the emotional support you gotta go to the Gym Donnie so your choice is Alonzo story of the emotional support clown at the firing well. We spoke to a reporter who covered the real story. A man in New Zealand was called into a work meeting and feared he laid off that he hired him. That's what happened that was on McGrady. A staff writer on the foreign desk at the Washington Post Democracy dies in darkness about the emotional support clown in New Zealand Alonzo is telling the truth he gets the point but more importantly oh you got it right you win a prize. Call it a birthday present if you will the voice and now the game where we ask people who have risen to the highest levels levels to come down back to ours. It's called not my job so Zach. Galifianakis is a comedian and movie star but he may be most well known for his Internet series between to ferns in it he interviews real celebrities and says really mean things to them and somehow the celebrities do not then arrange to have him killed between two ferns is now a movie. It's premiering on Netflix. Zach Galifianakis joins us now. Welcome to wait wait. Don't tell me it's a pleasure to have you. The I watched the movie which is hilarious and has a bunch of between two ferns interviews and celebrities actually want to be on your show right. They Wanna come and do this. I don't know I don't really know why they would want to do it but it's not a prank frank show. I'm not trying to prank anyone and if I understand correctly you tell the celebrities. Their job is basically to sit there and just well. I tell they don't have to be funny. They just have to sit there and be weirded out and we will give them insult adults to give back to me but sometimes the moment we just get talking and the insults Kinda fly naturally I've ah cut an interview short the person. I don't want to reveal the way that the person was acting so well. I thought they were gonNA choke me out parking lot so somebody was acting so so upset at your character that you honestly thought that this was going that badly and I kind ended up said we're done to the director and he said we don't have anything and I said well. I want my life you can you can say Florence Henderson it turned out that person just was that great of an actor. I was just fooled by them so but I don't try. I'm not trying to hurt anybody's feeling I just. I'm trying to cause weirdness yeah but it it is amazing for example. You did one with President Obama though yeah I forgot about that. Oh Yeah your mind and and and so you're you're going to go to the White House is rolling out the Obamacare obamacare thing and they were trying to get it around to the youth might watch and so when you got a chance go do this bit with President Obama. What did you say to yourself. I just couldn't believe we you know even when we got to the White House I was. I just thought they were going to that. It was never going to happen and I was nervous and actually I sat on some historic furniture that broke off at the White White House twice really different times the rope tie between you know the yeah it was next to the war room and it was the war or the map room and I didn't know that there was a ropes velvet rope situation and I had sat down on one of the seats and then a security guard blue is whistle at my ear and then I I was so nervous I did it again Zach. This is Roxanne Roberts it. Did the president have any sense of or do any of the celebrities you interview any sense. When you start what you're GONNA ask or. Is it all news to them as you ask. I I don't give them the questions ahead of time with President Obama though because of limited time that one was more more scripted than the others but he kind of ran with it and a lot of that is Improv really so India interviewed President Obama you sit with the then president of the United States and you say if I remember correctly. How does it feel to be the last black president and you said that to him and I legitimately thought he was about to kill you where he doesn't have to kill me. Has People around him. That was one of the questions where I asked his speechwriter. Have I pointed to that question Russian before we taped it and I said has he seen that question and the speechwriter looked at me and said Yeah Yeah I think so and just walked off like of course he had seen it so when you were sitting there with the president and you didn't know that he knew you were about to ask that and you did it anyway. I'm playing an idiot so when you're playing an idiot you kind of get away with things too because part of the comedy for for this thing is how not to be as a human being right. Yes so I don't know he just took it in stride and his response I think was made up what what was do you remember his response He just told he i. I can't remember exactly what it says which is weird because I watch it sixteen times a day yeah I I I have to say and I've seen baskets which is great as well. You often play people who are terrible people they're just they're not self aware not nearly as talented as they think they are. they're mean to people that's correct. So when will you be running for president. Yeah Zach Galifianakis. We have asked you here to play the game. We're calling between two dern. 's We've been talking about between two ferns but what do you know about the dern specifically Bruce and and Laura dern the father daughter team of actors through two to three questions about the dunes and you'll win prize one of our listeners the voice of anyone they might choose from our show. Oh Bill Zach Galifianakis playing for Johnny Maze of Austin Texas this month winner of our Smart Speaker Quiz just ask your Alexa exa or Google home enabled device to open the wait. Wait quiz and be like Johnny. I feel vaguely. Egli cheap bill meanwhile back to US AC. Are you ready to play this game. The first question Kevin Bruce dern got his start by getting rave reviews in a Broadway play in nineteen fifty eight. What was unusual about his role. Was it a he remained entirely early still an entirely silent for the entire play be he spent only fifty two seconds on stage or see played the rear end of a horse. It is see it to see. He played the rear end. Yes yes it was actually be. That's what it meant and I understand the theater critic Walter Care wrote of the play which he did not like quote the plays saving grace is a fifty two second performance by heretofore for unknown actor named Bruce Stern started them off. You still tumor chances. There's no problem bruce. dern later was harshly criticized for another role. Even received death threats for doing it. Why a he played the title role in Misunderstood Mussolini the he shot John Wayne in the back or see he shaw Raquel Welsh in the front. Oh boy it's just it's just for me again. This be you're right. It is being looting wow John Wayne in the back entirely nobody had ever done this to John. Wayne and his entire movie villain had ever successfully killed on Wayne for in the end of the movie and John Wayne Onset said to brewster and you know people are going to hate you for this and brewster and said to him yeah but they're gonNA love me in Berkeley line fine all right so that we've been talking about brewster in the father. Let's talk about Laura dern once while working on a David Lynch movie Laura Dern told a producer. You're in a David Lynch movie. Dude you gotta sit back and enjoy the ride. What was she referring to a David Lynch and just announced for the rest of the filming. The catering would just be ice cubes news in the shape of demons be David Lynch just told the producer from now on Laura dern. There is a kitty cat and you are Laura dern David Lynch had told the producer he needed quote a one legged woman a monkey and a lumberjack by three fifteen pm. What are people saying in the audience. You got a bunch of David Lynch fans see right and they're all saying see yes yeah you're right it was seeing the and in fact the producer. Gotham but not until four PM bill how did Zach Galifianakis acas doing our quiz very well congratulations. You got two out of three congratulations. Zach Galifianakis is a comedian. He is the star of between two ferns the movie it is streaming now on Netflix. Thank you so much that our in just a minute bill opens with this Sicilian defence gambit in the.
