"You hear the rookie carriers tony. Tony has come out and said that he doesn't is not being used as the first or second game. This guy's a rookie in in the nfl. He said he's he's the sources said. Now this is through. Zach rosenblatt at zach blat that no use and emma sports car not driving at this comes after marquees brown all brown last year said. What are you going to have dogs for. If you ain't gonna use them or something like that. Marquee said had proven himself. A little bit telling me. I guess he was out a little bit with covert. I guess injured here. He is early not being as much of the offense is. I guess he would help. He's come out and say the same thing to your point though. One bad apple ruins the entire batch. That's something you've got to change. You can't have that entire team turn against each other for everybody's bought in on winning. It's not about targets about anything like that so coach. Every time you come on i laugh. I learned something. And then i fear that. Somebody's going to be incredibly pissed off with what you said this time. I think sake one's going to be able to come back. "We talked to kenny. Mayne about his new gig with caesar's the bostonian versus the book would share pan. David i disagreed quite a bit more than normal. Probably the most scrimmage we've had so far in the two thousand twenty one football season he liked my college plays. Nfl plays not so much but look it's the nfl it's really difficult to to bet with the nfl and be accurate with the nfl. But i've got plays circa picks. I'm waiting to see the circa numbers i haven't. Nobody has sent me the circus. Board numbers for the million. Just yet let me sepals out. Those are out here we go. I will have more on that coming up in the next segment. I already so what i did. Was this week. I put together what i thought. The point spreads. We're going to be personally for these games. And i'm trying to see how accurate i'm going to be either right now. I nailed the rams and the colts. I thought that number would be three and a half. It's three and a half what you have to remember is just because the number today is on the line for the book. The books numbers will move before sunday. The circa million contest will not move so it's aging to watch and see how the numbers like raiders and the steelers that numbers five and a half right now but for the circa million three. They're putting the number at six bengals. The bears the number is three. They've got a two and a half so they're trying to anticipate where the number is going to close. And there's just so much money coming in here on the bengals. I took the bengals plus three. I already hate the bet. I already hate it. I'm going to be watching basically like with my hands over my eyes and i'm going to be very concerned about it because in my opinion is oh is what's going to happen because to me this much money it's pros anjos but this much money coming in on. The bengals is a scary proposition. I'm not in love with it at all. Next let's talk to zach rosenblatt. Giants beat writer for nj advanced media the newark star-ledger. Let's get to tonight. Washington hosting the giants thursday night football chat next year pushing the us. You're listening to pushing the odds on the sports map. Radio network powered by o'reilly auto parts and rocket mortgage live from las vegas. Here's math parole. I'm listening to the coach's i i'm fully aware of it. Being a long season especially with the added game playing seventeen games this year. So i'm just listening to the coach's tablets china's taking it one day at a time in my bahrain. Thank you very clear. Saquon barkley talking about his pitch count if there will be one coming up tonight for thursday night football washington hosting the new york giants on thursday night football. Most people are just blowing past the number and going straight to the money. Line that four. No record for daniel jones against these washington washington football team sixty six percent of the bets. Fifty three percent of the money coming in here on giants money line to win the game. Straight up forget about the numbers. Everything else is tilted towards washington. Every book in the country now is off a three. It's three and a half. I'm on three for washington but let's break this game down. Let's talk to zach rosenblatt. Who covers the giants for the newark. Star-ledger nj dot com as well here on the progressive gets lines zach map geraldo aria. Who good how you doing man. I'm great thanks for the time. All right what do you put any stock in. Or is there anything to glean from the foreign record that daniel jones has against washington and it was up against twain haskins and kyle allen so not this quarterback in taylor heineke but what why is he foreign on your mind it's honestly unexplainable it's it. He's four no against washington. I think he's four eighteen against all other teams or something like that. It's like some crazy bad record so he really gets up for the washington game and there's no other team like this. He hasn't had many big wins but he always seems beat them. That's why it's hard to go in. You know saying they're washington's definitely gonna be you know when the giants are batch because for whatever reason they have their number all the time so taylor heineke gets the start. Some are making the case. That heinecke is the more difficult quarterback for the giants to stop then ryan fitzpatrick. Who's gonna stay in the pocket because of his ability to run in scramble. How much of the giants talked about heineke scrambling and running ability this week. Judge talked about that in particular. How he's the guy that you can't really sleep on because of his ability to make plays as legs and you know scramble away from pressure and make plays down the field and you know the giant secondary on paper is supposed to be very good and they struggled last week and teddy bridgewater. So that's definitely something to keep an eye on. If they're secondary doesn't hold up again ten heineke can have you know he's telling maclaren to throw do so It's gonna be a tough match up for for that defense. That's and see you know. If you go into the season they would have teddy bridgewater. And taylor heineke as their first two quarterbacks but they were defend you would take that so if they come out of this too after after those two games. Then there's gonna be some alarm sounding. What's the feeling around joe judge right now. This is a guy look. I'm a patriot fan. So i don't really like ex patriot. Assistant coaches special teams coordinator on top of that young guy on top of that in some interesting antics making his team run laps for things. He's not happy with not typical of of an nfl head coach. What's the feeling in new york around judge right now. Interesting last year when they fell to one and seven. And i said this to a bunch of people i felt like he had the highest approval rating of any coached. Ever have that that like sitting. New york's absolutely loved him. You know they see him as a bill. parcells tom. coughlin type felt that way all off season then after week one you know they had a really bad game. Their offense was about again. Joe judge had a bad decision where he threw a challenge flag into play. Where you're gonna challenge so it cost them a time out so you're you're slowly starting to see people start to you. Know not turn on him but start to be willing to criticize them more and if they come out in their office bad again and i think you have to start pointing the finger more jobs than they ever have because he chose to bring back jason garrett. He fought to keep us off into line the way it looks. He's fought for daniel jones. So you know all of a sudden you have to start criticizing joe and maybe the the love. We'll start dying down a little bit but other understand right now. He's very popular in the city. I would say it's so interesting. And i mean look giant. Fans loved the old school bill. Parcells hard-nosed rar. I get it but anybody talk about him. Making players run laps and be like this only lasts for so long before the team just basically quits on the coach. I mean i mean it's interesting because you're right. The the reality is that's going to be if they start losing their really bad again then. Maybe we'll start seeing people turn on them but if they can win Locker rooms does seem to listen to him. He has a plan. There's a reason why he does everything he doesn't want them making bad mistakes. And all that. I think the last part of things like maybe that gets overblown a little bit. But he he does have. Some message does a lot of things that that other coaches don't and he runs hard practices and it's pretty old school in the way he approaches it. And as you've seen with guys you know especially from the belcher coaching treat. You know matt patricia. And and you know. Charlie wife and all guys like that like it were were. They were welcome pretty quick so they will be inching up their own too and they have tough schedule. The bidding and part of the season they had the saints coming up cowboys. And things like that so It it's gonna be interesting if they're winning that you won't hear anything about it..

"They were almost so confident in their ability to coach up the current group that they were stubbornly not gonna spend more money both in free agency or you know currency in draft picks On it so now that you've had a few injuries shane. Lemieux has been banged up. Retirements even retirements. You get rid of kevin zeitler so now. Last night's game. I got injured. Thomas look very good. I think he's got a map. Her map hurt snap. Hurt looks a little shaky. And then the backups horrendous. Who was the fourteen pressures or that group so not good luck at the offensive line last night As a whole for the giants look absolutely horrendous. And one of the things that zach rosenblatt said last week on our show is that he would expect. He was a little surprised that they hadn't done it already. He would expect giants to go out and sign a veteran offensive linemen. And you're playing with fire there. I just. I don't see who that guy is. I and i think that's a great idea. Go outside of veteran. Find somebody to bring in here. But at this point i mean. They had nate solar guard at one point in practice. I don't know there's just because and the reason i'm so fixing honest because this is not like it's like some new issue a decade a decade. This is bill and arguably mean the defense you know there was a bunch years of divas but i i would say if you looked at from in the eli manning era what caused the the giants demise so present gay i would say the the the integration of the offensive line would be the number one issue. It's a big big issue. That is an in arguable. Point the absolute decline of the eli manning era with the giants is the offensive line. And it's still problem. You can't argue that still problem. And part of the reason for that is that they riffed on very high draft picks That were offensive lineman. I think they whiffed on two firsts and a second and it's very difficult to recover from these things. There's a lot of money that's tied up in these first and second round picks. You can't just jettison these guys and bring in somebody of quality. It doesn't happen. You have to hit on those high draft picks and starting with jerry reese. He did not hit on those high offense lineman draft picks. He whipped on all of them. So now you are just committed to this group. You didn't address it in the draft. No you didn't actually did more subtractions because you let zeiler. Who was the best lineman. They had lashed keret most consistent president of the best over the last couple of years. So now i mean you've little to no depth so now you are going to war with a group. That's very unproven. Very raw nap hurt. You're really asking him to take a big leap in year year to to be a start. The starting right tackle. And i just in a year where you need daniel jones to take the next step. I mean desperately and this has been an issue. This is literally been the cause of this the offensive engine to stop. I just think it is a big dight dais role to go at it like this. I just think it's you are. You're having almost this like irrationally. Stubborn self confidence about your billion coach up the group. And i hope i'm wrong but i have a lot of concerns about the offensive line so you can look around the league and in the past and you can go back years if you want one thing that we've seen a lot in the nfl is. We've seen very talented. Quarterbacks come into the league play behind a terrible offensive line and never be able to make the leap after that. They these guys in the past..

Now we did have Zach rosenblatt covers the giants for nj dot com on. Bgn radio recently to kind of like he was at the press conference that we haven't kind of like we dug into this a little bit kind of asked him what was the context here and everything and he kind of downplayed a little bit but he did say was kind of weird. So i'm gonna stews to ride with it. That's weird also weird to me. Our day is pointed this out on twitter and podcast before but like he's not even coats like he's a coordinator like is literal. Job title does not have coaching. I know like he's part of the coaching staff. So i know he's like a coach technically but by just as job description alone. It's not even his title. Someone's are referring are insisting your to them by something that is even in the title. I think that's funny to me. But then after all that Recently ron rivera at after a washington football team press conference Thanks bye video things around for whatever for taking the time and he was actually like. It's thanks coach winked. So i love it so i did not anticipate coming here to defend jason guy and i don't even know that allow that i truly am in defending him. But i do think this is. This is necessary context just so everyone can draw an opinion. It is very possible that this was like an ego thing. it's definitely play a however Garett throughout his tenures. The cowboys head coach was extremely regimented. Wore the same clothes like did the same thing in lost the same way. I know all the jokes there But so he would walk into every press conference every single on. How you doing guys that was that was interesting you know and every time it was you know doing good coach doing good coach and so like looking. I thought todd archer from the espn who is one of the best on the cowboys. Be put it well. I think it's possible that this was jason garrett saying like you know we say goodbye to one another. You know what i mean like. In the way the way he described it was saying you know coach. So i think it was an unfortunate coincidence that these dots will be connected to but i think it's definitely very possible that he was just outlining the goodbye procedure. I don't think he cares honestly If he does i would. I would truly be shocked. He was not that egotistical until the last season in dallas But again. I called this out last week. Dude get your new some new things like this fight crap. You know what. I mean like in that dude this. This was a great joke because he's handwriting. This in sharpies on his shirt now just says fight. The cowboys had the budget to make the shirts form. I like this. This is an embarrassing. Look to be handwriting. It on your shirt. So this is a good way to talk about the giants. I don't know one thing to talk about. Because they are a disaster too. Like i don't think that like jason gareth and can be somewhat explained right And and there could be some context. I think even you can say like oh you know i can see that. That's yeah it's i. I can understand you like i choose to believe the funnier thing but i i can understand that. There is a possibility that what you're saying is true. Rj so that methodology to me does not apply to all of the retirements happening. I cannot buy into like this is just a coincidence. This is just all these players happen to want to be retiring at the same time this is. This is truly to me a weather smoke. There's fire situation. It's just everything. I'm hearing out of giants camp at a follow along with At valentine big blue dot com as we do. And i'm just seeing a lot of not great stuff about daniel jones. Really not that like. He's been totally terrible in training camp. He hasn't been good. It's almost like kind of maybe a similar boat. Jalen hurts where it's just like. It's not having this disaster training camp that like maybe zach wilson. Her someone seems to be having but They're not having a very good one. And i think that matters. I think i think one it's it matters and to it's hard to know always exactly how much it matters because i understood there are certain situations in circumstances where players can have a bad training camp and they put it behind them and they look good in the regular season but i think there are plenty of instances as well and i point back carson wentz last year where player does not have a good training camp and all of a sudden. They look really bad in the regular season like. Oh well this was easy to see coming especially when you go back to training camp. So i just don't think we're seeing any kind of massive leap from Dinner jones like i feel like some of the stuff i've seen from big blue view. Is they feel like daniel. Jones can potentially be like josh allen. You can make that kind. Which i don't agree with obviously but i think like that's like the template or the goal and i don't think to be clear i don't wanna like miss represent what giant say. I don't think they think that's likely to happen. I think that's like the hope of what will happen. I think if i had to guess. I don't think most giants fans are like super optimistic about daniel jones. So that's kind of the hope. But i feel like. Didn't we see hype about josh allen last year like oh wow the bills are the kind of coming together like there's some promising signs here in training camp and i'm just. What are the positive vibes. That's my question. What are the positive by coming out of giants training camp like. What are you feeling really good about. I was going through winners and losers on that ed wrote up for big blue route recently like some of the winners had in their very low bars. It was like various. Tony is a winner. Because he finally practicing like okay. That's not great. This is the bar for success here. So first of all on the josh allen front. I feel like what unlocked him in. I feel like this is like when you bring this up. People like well then. Why pay the quarterback but was trading. I five six like that. That unlocked josh allen skill set. I mean he's specifically needed a receiver that was able to run routes get open in separate likes to fund. Which is why you know. The coincidence happened Big shock when you surround good players with good players. You know good results follow But so i don't. I don't think the kennedy golladay has that kind of effector or cadavers. Tony even if he is winning by practicing And so i like this whole situation it. It stinks like this whole thing stinks to me because again like i mean. The big is great but you know if if the winning is like oh. He's practicing or the winning is like nobody thought you know like are the winning. Nobody retired you know like i just feel like this. Is i read bigly rapper recording and in ed's links post on wednesday the first one just is what really the symptoms when when you can see a team. Starting to unravel and one symptom is win. The former great chirps up and offers his opinion about the controversy that is surrounding the squad so phil simms Who lost his job to cowboy in tony. The way Phil simms was asked about joe judges critics and the people criticizing him and said shut up. They're wrong it's team building. It really does bring chemistry to the team when guys have to run. Yeah it's punishment but it's kind of funny and it brings everybody together. Just like the fight did with the giants. I didn't look at it as a detriment. And so i like to me. This is this is kind of fan blowing. What phil simms is doing. And like when you're having to re when you're having to anyone to shut up you've already lost the you know what i'm saying like i feel like the giant i. I'm not trying to pat myself on the back here. But like i saw this coming a mile at this team is going to be a disaster and i know say crohn's on his way back but also at the beginning of this week.

"Sports talk new york with you till ten o'clock repeating faz talking all kinds of things especially the the mets demise after a tough weekend in phillies borders. Switch gears here for a minute and talk. Some football as training camp is opened up. And it's been a little bit of a royal. The giants camp were joined now by our old friend of from nj dot com zach rosenblatt giants. Reporters been doing a great job for them. Thank zack thanks. So much for calling in on a sunday night. How's it going man. Great man how you doing doing very well So i guess we have because we know it's a few days remove now but let's get into a bunch things from camp but give me your guests. Rundown of this brawl fight thing with daniel jones ending up at the bottom of the pile like they know. It was a portion of the of the practice where they weren't allowing recording. Can you just kind of like give the best description of dying to hear it from like a. I like an eyewitness account. Yeah yeah i. It's one of those a lot of times when crazy things happening packers. You gotta look up. And you see that the end. But i i mean it was the team drill so we all had our eyes on the field and like happened that angle. Where like the media. You could see it. I would say but yeah like you were mentioning. The meat is not allowed to record during those team drills so we even if we had anything on our friend and we wouldn't be allowed share kind of thing but yeah so i mean i'll say it's one of the teen camp things i've seen a lot because the jones part of it but you know. Basically they mckinney. Hit corey clement. A little bit harder than you're supposed to hit your on teammate. And training camp and eminem ingram kinda shoved him a little bit. Kinda you know kinda kinda shove that happens all the time in the field where you shove a guy to get out of the way or whatever like i didn't really think that the on then logan ryan kind of comes running out of now and seven ingram from what i would say is the worst thing that happened during that fight. Yeah and that kind of set sets it off. You have everybody running over. You have a big pile that forms somehow jones at the bottom of the pile all of a sudden. No good kenny. Wiggins henny way to talk to you. He said he heard people yelling at the the pilots policy me. Random pulled them out of their quarterback on and then after that comes joe jackson punishment is pretty severe. He just went crazy judge. Yes yes. I mean he screamed for twenty minutes straight more probably set a record for and and then you had them run gas which at least is running the first the length of the field. The running back needed to thirty up. Something that another gaffer's thirty more pushups and then he yell at them for like another ten minutes You'll you'll never so much at one point. The coaches were about to walk over to the huddle where he was. The eldest after backups. To stay at the line 'cause he just wanted to be off the players themselves Sound like the combination of everything. There was a it was just like an escalation. It sounded like a friday night lights episode. It sounded like a like just like a whole a. That's pretty crazy. Yeah i mean the players that a lot of the guys have been playing off like it's just training camp that i think it was more than just usually training camp fight..

On the on the second the time second-place philadelphia phillies and put a little bit of a gap there in the standings and they didn't do either of those things. They lost three out of four to miami book terrible and then got swept by the philadelphia phillies and somehow looked even worse doing that now. They find themselves two and a half games out of a division. they have to win and even in games. They've lost in heartbreaking fashion in philly. That stadium at least usually wakes up the offense a little bit. Usually the offense is gets going a little bit. Hit some outside of that little spur in the ninth inning yesterday. Nothing i mean just just silence. Well i'll say this also we're talk you're talking about how sometimes that stadium gets them going one of the one of the things that gets them going in. That stadium normally is the amount of met fans that show up for games in philadelphia and especially friday and saturday. They were out in full force and they were loud. They did their part. The mets did not the the fans were in the right frame of mind. Yes the team. That's who steve cohen was talking about. Maybe he meant them lawyers trying so the magic them. Oh was going to educate them on. Why you don't sign kumar rocker. Making their investments for him also. Just can this team but look now. They're out of crossroads so they they they. They couldn't play with prosperity. They were hand you know. They literally led almost wire-to-wire. They couldn't hold onto it so now you're gonna see what this teams made of adversity wise and see. This is now the louise throw us and now unfortunately you're doing it with with a with a team without your horses yet. Without without jacob degrom without lindores who knows by now just judging by how things have gone. I'm sure he's not gonna be back for a minute. You might be happy about that. But i like havi bias books. And i know we're kidding around. But for those who didn't listen to the podcast this week Mattie and i had a very large and loud disagreement just said i know. He's not a perfect. He's a flawed player. I understand that but he had he has some pop. He's a great defender. He gives a little spark. They need anything right now. I would take anything well. He is giving them nothing and now he's in them and now he's gonna give them less because just like the ground just like linda war. He's probably going to be out of the line of educating me. I am educating you. It's time for you and all the other met fans. You don't cycle mar rocker draft. I gotta be honest. I needed to get this twenty. Five minute ran out the. Do you feel a little bit better it. I feel like i'm getting angrier. Okay well we'll we'll talk for a few more moments here about baseball. We got into it. We didn't even get to tease. Because that's what they call in the business. You tease things coming up. Zac rosenblatt a who's who now really in educating you zach rosenblatt. A friend of the show..

"Mixed bag. I was you know he. There was a few practices in row to start campaign. He looked pretty bad then. He got a couple practices where he's almost perfect and then Yesterday friday. He threw like two interceptions. What it was probably as worse to practice. It's definitely been see. I haven't really seen enough to where i could be like all right. He's going to have the year that the giants had been promising Like you said i mean. He knows there's a lot of pressure on them. Everybody building knows they spend a lot of money to support him with talent and he needs to be better. I say one thing is you know he's going to defense. I think it's pretty good. The secondary in particular. I have the talent of one of the best in the league. And they've really shutdown these receivers and a really good way besides maybe sterling shepherd But yeah joe jobs needs to be better and he's shown i think the preseason Depending on how much they play them there. I think that'll be a good indicator of if he's like made improvements on some of the mistakes he's made in the past raise. You know throwing it to the wrong read you know make not going through progressions and in all that stuff and turning the ball over too much i. There's definitely talent there but he needs to put it together this year. And if he doesn't then a lot of people are losing their jobs so lasting. Four you coach jason garrett. Are you call him. Coach not being serious. Which was that was that tongue-in-cheek or was he serious about that. So i think has as it turns out which i still kinda take some umbrage was i think his point was. I think it's something that apparently he used to say when he was a dallas is that like when his thing was not to call me coach. it was more. Nobody reacted when he said Is good to see you guys or something. And he's like well we say good to see a coach okay. I'm any the way his tone of it was still kind of condescending. I like i think somebody on the beach described like when you're in elementary school and you go to one of those assemblies where someone says. How's everybody doing good and then he's like you can do better than that. Oh how's everybody doing. Yeah yeah it's like kind of vibe. I think it's still like a weird thing to say. But so i think i don't i don't think i've ever had an issue with jason garrett. I i don't think he's good coach. But right i don't i don't know if you i mean i it was it was probably overblown. I think the whole coach conversation is ridiculous like we. We don't even call those guys coach and then there's people that get offended by that. I guess i don't know there's some fans that they're in a position of power or something. But yeah i mean i'm even if he wanted us to call them coach not doing i gotta say it has been an interesting couple of weeks as outside outsider watching a new york giants. Camp i would imagine for the giants. I'm sure they're hoping it. Settles down a little bit but for you guys. I'm sure it's been some pretty good content for you. So folks make sure you are reading every right about no-doubt about it Make sure you're reading everything. Zach rosenblatt does for nj advanced media. Follow him on twitter at zach black. And we'll we'll talk about the cowboys coming up in a couple of weeks as well and then we'll really start diving into the nitty gritty with the eagles opponents and get some training camp updates on all of their opponents as we go.

"Huntley in practice as a result raiders. Running back theo riddick retired after testing positive for covert nineteen. Josh jacobs sang result. Was the last straw for riddick and vikings rookie quarterback kellen mon- tested positive with quarterbacks kirk cousins and stanley also out of practice as close context around the league cove. Nineteen is Is hitting some some locker rooms hard. Of course the kirk cousins thing has really swept around the league like wildfire with cousins talking about making sure that he feels like he he he. He was placed in a in a situation where He was it was almost likely to get it. Because the the quarterback Room was small apparently so he's not going to kind of have plexiglass erected in certain areas in the rooms that he's in so he doesn't come into contact with people who may have corona virus. I you know kirk you do you but Anyway it's it's certainly an interesting situation though. The the eagles have not had to deal with a whole lot of cova issues So far here in twenty twenty one just a little bit here and there but so far so good for your philadelphia eagles but certainly with the washington football team they are they are certainly dealing with that with some covert problems on on their side now. I mentioned at the beginning of the of the broadcast. That a quarterback in the afc is the latest to sign a huge contract extension. The buffalo bills signed josh allen to a new deal. It's a six year deal worth two hundred fifty eight million dollars including one hundred fifty million dollars. Guaranteed that will average forty three million dollars a season and it's worth every penny. That guy is absolutely amazing. This is just what you do when you have a young quarterback and they got it done early in his tenure. They didn't want to wait and drag it out. Like the cowboys did with dak prescott. They got it done. They got it done quickly. They got it done fast. And josh allen is a very very wealthy human being and we'll be for the rest of his life so as we're looking at quarterbacks next up for deals you've got lamar jackson of the ravens and baker mayfield of the browns They've got to be feeling pretty good. I imagine joe borough of the bengals and a couple of years has to be looking at this and feeling pretty good about it. i think It's more to me. I think it's more certain. Lamar jackson gets gets the big money. Deal baker mayfield. This year is going to really make or break whether or not. Cleveland sees him as a quarterback to give thirty five to forty million dollars a year to for whatever reason. I'm just still not sold on baker mayfield as the franchise quarterback although he had a very good year last year and the cleveland. Browns are expected to be a very good football team this year so it's more than likely that baker mayfield's can be just fine and that he's going to get that big contract but i think lamar jackson is definitely more likely. Although lamar jackson took a step back last year. So i don't think either one of those guys is as guaranteed to get one as jack was and as carson wentz was where they got their deals and now of course josh allen getting his forty three million dollar a year deal and forbes is out with their team valuations for this year. This is a yearly thing that they do the philadelphia. Eagles are in the top ten at number nine where three point eight billion dollars however all three teams in the nfc east are ahead of them on this list. You got the dallas cowboys at the top at six and a half billion dollars. The patriots are second at five billion. The giants are number three four point. Eight five billion dollars. Washington is number five at four point two billion dollars so those three nfc east teams all in the top six there with. You've got the rams in there at four. You've got the niners at six bears at seven. The jets at eight and the broncos at number ten just being a new york apparently makes your team super valuable. Because what have the new york jets done since super bowl three so But yet four point. Five billion dollars. A more valuable franchise than the philadelphia eagles. All right up next. We're going to talk to zach rosenblatt of nj advanced media the new york giants very very interesting week in training camp. We're going to talk to him about all that coming up on i on the enemy. Thanks to t mobile for supporting this episode.

"John stolnis you can follow me on twitter at john stolnis. We've got a busy podcast coming up. We're gonna take a special look at the new york giants. What's been going on in training camp for them over the first couple of weeks. We're going to talk to zach rosenblatt. Who is a giants beat reporter for nj advanced media. We're going to talk to him about a whole range of issues going on with our buddies from up north. Plus we'll get into some news from around the nfl a quarterback signs a huge contract extension over in the afc and the washington football team dealing with some pretty serious cova issues. But we're gonna start off the podcast talking about stuff going on in the eagles camp right now and of course most of what eagles fans are talking about doesn't really have anything to do with with what's going on in training camp. It has it has to do with the future of the quarterback situation and to shawn watson. What is going on with the houston. Texans starting quarterback at least for now to shawn watson on friday was not at practice for the fourth day in a row and the texans. Clearly they don't know what they don't know what to do with him right now because the the league has an suspended him. They can't really do anything but they don't wanna put them out on the field because they are fielding trade tom. They're feeling trade pitches from from other teams. So there's obviously something going on here. He's obviously being shopped around. And there's all kinds of smoke around the eagles as us of course heard by now you and you've heard it refuted to buy by other sources but you know i. I still think that because there's been a reluctance to name. Jalen hurts as the starting quarterback for this team. Because we know it's not going to be joe flacco that it feels like there is. There is a real chance. That the shawn watson could come to the philadelphia eagles at some point in the next couple of weeks now per mike florio. The texans have made it known that that they're willing to trade shawn watson but the problem is that they still want too much for him. According to florio per a league source the texans still have not softened their trade expectation. Exp- expectations for watson despite the lingering uncertainty regarding his career that those are florio's words there and then jay glazer fox sports during the hall of fame game went on tv and basically said that the texans have stopped returning phone calls from teams. Who are interested in watson. You wonder why that could be i. Think glazer's speculated. That is because the texans are getting low balled for watson. Whatever that might be. We've heard from some folks i think. Nfl networks tom. Pillow scenario it. Pella cerro an ian rappaport said that the asking price for watson is at least three first round draft picks. Espn later confirmed. That report netted that houston is looking for a combination of five. High draft. Picks end starting caliber players. Espn sarah bishop says that. The texans don't feel like they've received a serious offer. Well that's you know for a guy who might miss half a season because of all the sexual assault selection sexual molestation allegations that are against him and The fact that the texans really don't have any leverage you can see why he is still in houston and so. The texans had a quarterback that they really can't play. He wants to leave. He does not want to be in houston The texans want to get rid of him. They owe him ten million dollars this year but then thirty five million dollars in twenty twenty two If he is indicted he will likely land on paid. Leave according to Mike florio so there's all kinds of on field and off field stuff. And i think most eagles fans generally just don't want this guy on the team for for all the off the field reasons they're onfield reasons not not to get him but specifically the asking price and the money. You'd have to pay him but really nobody wants the headache. And this would be a huge headache you'll be you'll be something that would just dominate the headlines. And you just don't want a guy like that on your team. Sometimes you just don't want to root for a guy like that especially as your franchise quarterback but i still. I still don't think it's going to happen. I do not think. The eagles are gonna trade for a shawn watson and i would rather hold onto those draft picks and get a guy without so much baggage. Go after aaron rodgers next year. Go after russell wilson next year. If you wanna veteran quarterback and you think you're relatively close to the super bowl but again. I don't think the eagles contention for being a super bowl. Contender is going to be next year. I don't think twenty two thousand twenty two. The eagles are thinking super bowl. Which makes a trade for aaron rodgers and or russell wilson. It just doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I really feel like this is an opportunity for the eagles to just go go even with even if two two first rounders and a what could be a high second round pick depending on how the colts do without carson wentz for much of the season if that's what ends up being a second rounder two. I should still be able to get you to move up to almost wherever you want to go in the draft next year and get whatever quarterback you want. If you decide you don't want to move forward with with jalen hurts i. I wouldn't pull the trigger right now. I don't see the urgency. I just don't sense the urgency. There was nothing around to shawn. Watson off the field. I would say yes. Go and trade for him. Give up three i give up the two you have next year and maybe give up the one the year after that and you know give up you know you wanna throw a player in there. I don't know who it would be. Maybe you're throw andre dillard in there i don't know how much trade value he has probably not a whole lot. So maybe that's a nonstarter at that point but you get my point you know. Maybe maybe you do that. For a young franchise quarterback. That doesn't have all the off field baggage. And just would be a distraction and a black mark on your franchise so but the fact that he has all that surrounding himself and the fact that you're not ready to contend right. now i just. I don't see the urgency. I'd give jalen hurts the season. Let him play. Let him see see what he looks like again. I think it's unfortunate hurts. Is going to have one season to do this. But i'd rather go that route then then go out and get the shawn watson right now for a king's ransom it sounds like houston's asking price will have to come down at some point in the next week or two if they do want to move now another player that has suddenly hit the is requesting a trade from his team is Pittsburgh steelers wide receiver james washington. He's a fourth year player. He's expected to be in the mix as one of the steelers outside receivers but right now he seems to be on the outside looking in chase klay pool who burst onto the scene as a rookie last year. seems to have one of those spots pretty much locked down and dante johnson is probably him in the pecking order as well and so the former second round pick is looking to get out of pittsburgh he. He played in the hall of fame game. The other night had to targets did not did not make catch. You know. I am ben rothlisberger and and he has not really been able to get on the same page over the years last season. He only had thirty catches for three hundred ninety two yards and five touchdowns but in two thousand nineteen. He started ten games. Played in fifteen and caught. Forty four eighty targets for seven hundred. Thirty five yards and three touchdowns. So i had one pittsburgh. Steeler fan described him as aggressively average to me. And i watched highlights in anytime you're watching highlights of the kid and i've seen him play a couple of games and he he. He's one of those players. He hasn't really had a breakout game. So he's kind flown under the radar but he's a guy who has some size he. He's a field stretcher. He but he can catch the ball over the middle. I like how he's able to break some tackles..

"A couple of days of new york giants training camp a couple of Of interesting days in east rutherford new jersey and yours truly has been fortunate enough to to be in attendance for the first couple of practices so thought we would spend a little bit of time just going through some of the things that that i've seen some of the things that have happened over the first couple of days. So let's get right to that. As we as the giants you know get get further and further into the swing of twenty twenty one training camp and the first thing we have to talk about is obviously what happened with tight end. Slash wide receiver kelvin. Benjamin obviously released by the giants on wednesday after an odd occurrence on the field wednesday morning. Where joe judge spoke to benjamin where that conversation apparently got heated in. Also involved dave gettleman. There's a good picture That we posted on big blue of of gentleman standing in between benjamin and judge and there's also some Some video of benjamin walking off the field after that confrontation followed by dave gettleman. All of that obviously resulted in benjamin being released on wednesday afternoon by the giants an endless. And you know. I read the report from zach. Rosenblatt of nj advance media. Who did a terrific job in tracking benjamin down on wednesday evening and getting some some reaction from a very bitter very upset benjamin following his release by the giants and listen. I understand you know benjamin's frustration. I have absolutely zero sympathy for the man. This is a man who had not played in the nfl. In the last two seasons didn't play in two thousand nineteen or two thousand twenty had really one opportunity at a comeback in the nfl. And that's with the new york giants. That's with the general manager who drafted him in carolina in the first round back in two thousand fourteen that being of course current giants general manager. Dave gettleman i quite honestly. Don't think there's another general manager in the league who would have given benjamin and opportunity to make a comeback but but gettleman did gave him a tryout rookie minicamp and the giants signed him to a contract to see if he could make a transition to tight end. and listen. You know if you if you if you read the story from from zach rosenblatt of of nj advanced media this came down to an issue about benjamin's wait listen. He's listed at six foot five. Two hundred and forty five pounds and he admitted playing wide receiver out of preposterous. Two hundred sixty five pounds in. Apparently what what. The crux of the issue was was that the giants asked him after he had reported in going through mandatory minicamp at two sixty five. The giants asked him to report to training camp at two fifty one. They asked him to lose some weight before training camp rather than do that. Benjamin showed up at training camp at two hundred sixty eight pounds saying that. He had chosen to add muscle rather than lose weight now and he seemed to be flabbergasted on that judge on wednesday chose to tell him that the giants were going to find him for being seventeen pounds. Overweight no listen i. Don't get this from kelvin. Benjamin standpoint he had one opportunity to return to being an nfl player. That was with the new york giants. He's not going to get another one from another team in the nfl. No one is going to touch him. What happened this week with. The giants makes him radioactive and for all intents and purposes ends his nfl career. Benjamin had one responsibility whether he liked it or not. If the giants wanted him to report at two hundred fifty one pounds he had to make a good faith effort to reach that weight not to go his own way and do what he wanted. Benjamin seemed to have this idea that he was still. You know that guy. That was a number one draft choice that was supposedly an nfl star. Seven or eight years ago. Not a guy who was a fringe player. Who had a very slim chance of making the giants roster to begin with. And you're not going to make a roster. You're not going to have a chance at all if you refuse to follow the direction of the coaching staff. If you don't want to do what the coaching staff wants you to do. Then then you're not going to be around. You have no argument to make. I simply don't understand what kelvin. Benjamin was thinking here if he did not want to lose that weight. That's an argument. He should have made with the new york giants a month or a month and a half ago during mandatory mini camp and they should have had a conversation about what they thought would be the best course of action instead of having this confrontation. Come up you know at the very beginning of training camp. Listen benjamin set an awful lot of of nasty things about joe judge complaining about about the way. The judge treats people complaining about the his time with the giants being a hoax. And saying that that they were trying that they were trying to sabotage sham and that in the gettleman was in his corner but at the coaching staff as i said was trying to sabotage him and not really give him a chance and didn't want him around and and complaining about how much judge swears and in how he treats people and and listen. Joe judges not everybody's cup of tea. But i have absolutely zero sympathy for kelvin. Benjamin in this situation. As i said he had one opportunity to make a comeback to the nfl. That was with the new york giants. What he had to do was simply get with the program. Do what was asked if he really really wanted to be an nfl player. That's exactly what he would have done. But it's apparent to me that that's not really what kelvin benjamin wanted and now he's now he's out of the league and the giants will move on and that will be that you know as i said. Joe judge is not everybody's cup of tea joe. Judge has rough edges. He's he's not always easy to listen to. he's probably not always easy to get along with. But the guys that have been with him in that locker room for the giants for since Since the beginning of the twenty twenty season those guys seem to understand him. Those guys seem to him. They seem to believe in him so. I don't think that that you should get all bent out of shape about kelvin. Benjamin going off on. Joe judge and in saying that you know judge will will never be a success in nfl head coach and and all of the other bluster. That came from kelvin. Benjamin i just wouldn't worry about it. The whole kelvin. Benjamin experience with the giants has turned into a a regrettable forgetful of and. Let's move on from that and and see what happens and see how the giants fill that roster spot That that's vacated by you know by benjamin You know being released. The big news from thursday was the injury to starting left guard. Shane lemieux second-year player out of oregon carted off the field with an apparent knee. Injury giants released no other information other than the fact that it was a knee injury. We don't know how severe we don't know which knee we really didn't see how it happened. All we know is that during eleven on eleven he was. He was carted off the field. So apparently lemieux will have an almar. I on friday to to determine the extent of the damage and listen. You know will cross our fingers and hope that it's not a serious injury that the young men will be back soon and that he'll start seventeen games for the giants this year at left guard. It big move view. We went through on thursday some of the possibilities that the giants have on the roster if they have to replace him lemieux and include zach fulton signed as a free agent also veteran guards. Kenny wiggins who has started a lot of games in the nfl. As has fulton chad slade. Who's a veteran guard..

Let's let's get to the interview that i did with zach rosenblatt of nj media all right giants fans. I'm joined now by giants. Beat reporters zach rosenblatt of nj advance media. Hazak thank you very much for taking some time out to To join the shell. Thanks for having me on adam. Happy to here. Hey so we are. We are in the throes of the of the off season here. And and we're all doing in fifty three man roster projections and and and camp battles and those kinds of things as we look forward to to training camp and you and i both did the fifty three man roster thing and i was kind of amazed at how similar both predictions are. But i guess we're all start. I have one sort of surprise cut. I will say one guy that i have been leaving off my fifty three man. Roster projections is oh shane's immunise And and some people wonder why. And and i don't know about you but i i will i. I will tell you why. I just had the impression a year ago that he wasn't a favorite of this coaching staff and with all of the the editions on the edge. I wonder if if he's a guy that's got to come to camp and prove that he belongs on. Just maybe we'll start with your reaction to that and maybe when you think about it you know one guy that most people think is going to make this this roster that you think might not think simon Is probably the best answer. That honestly i i so like a before minicamp and i can't even remember if it was not as or not. I did like a thing where i base and went through every guy in the roster and categorize them whether they are on the bubble shot or like a lock to make the team in a and i was surprised how easy was to put oshane in the on the bubble area in a i mean it makes sense if you look at it like this. Coaching staff to draft him He didn't look very good before he got hurt last year. Like i mean. He didn't play very many games but he got hurt early in the season and before that he didn't make an impression on like lorenzo looked like he might have been ready to have a good season finally on he got hurt oshane. You didn't see that from eating. He didn't flash. Really as i mean he was okay as a rookie Not great Into so you know. He needs to have a good. I been thinking about this lady. Like there's going to be a ryan connolly type of cut this year you would think just because especially because this team is deeper now and i've said this to people. I think the cut downs Covered this year. Because you have like some big named guys that maybe aren't gonna be locked to make the team. But yeah i think oshane is probably the best answer for that to be honest with you For it if we're thinking just surprises by to pick someone who you know. I like it would be a surprise on this thing is gonna get cut Someone i've been thinking about his darning. Homes i i. I really like him. I think he's a good player. I think he can't be a good player. Lease show flash last year but they did drop trade up to draft a guy in the third round on the drafts or another corner in the draft. So i i think darnay by. I think he's gonna make the team ultimately but if you're thinking like someone who if he has bad camp and we we get down to fifty. Three men cut down and or surprised by name. Not being on the roster. I think he's somebody who would be interesting. Aren't as an a really interesting choice. And i don't know how you feel about this but there's certain guys When you watch t. Every day and you and you talk to guys and you think about it. There's certain is that maybe you can't confirm you know what you think but you get kind of a nagging feeling about certain guys and my nagging feeling about darn homes is. I thought he had a pretty good rookie season. But and yes. He got hurt at the end of the year and he missed a couple of games. But when xavier mckinney got healthy and got back on the field kids play on savior mckinney played nickel and darnay homes. Didn't play and it made me wonder just how this coaching staff actually feels about darnay homes. I don't know if you had the same thought. Now i've been thinking about that a large. I'm like you. I thought you know he got targeted a lot. But he was a fourth round picks. Play every game. But i thought he did such flashes last year to the quite. The level of football expert has coaching staff. Obviously but Yeah i mean. I kinda the same thought one they. Once they resigned. Logan ryan Bring back xavier. Who's obviously in a play a lot that use the second round pick on last year and the still djibril around here and you trade for aaron robinson and they and they keep saying how they believe. Adoree jackson play inside if he asked to like at everything. They've said in point to points that but at the same level. It's funny anytime we talked to someone like always brings up army homes without us even asking about like he brings. Eve mentioned him as one of the guys on the team. So i you like within the position room. I think they like him quite a bit. I'm am curious. What the coaches and joe judge think about them because their actions you have to you can only base it off their actions. Their actions indicate they're very high them. But i don't think he could. He could be star quality player in the league. Maybe they don't view it that way. I know he worked at punt returner during minicamp house. Kind of a disaster. I think he muffed a few of those So it's it's going to be very. I think he still has a chance to start be nickel in week one if he has camp but he's not the favorite. I don't think at this point which is kinda crazy to think about. Yeah it's interesting. You know when you think about training camp and you think about the secondary and i'm gonna put safety together with cornerback as i think about it..

"Stuff that stood out Was was more about you know the way. He described the kind of players that he knows his coaching staff looking for. I thought that was interesting. How he described specifically linebackers as they want guys who can do more than one thing In you know so and that made me think of you know. There's a lot of talk about them going after edge rusher. I don't think japs and that russia early. I don't think it's going to be a guy is just a straight forecast russia. I think that's why somebody mike parsons becomes more interesting to me and and you know guys like that who can do multiple things lineup at multiple spots. 'cause i think aligns at patrick rams defensive stuff generally i think they probably weren't showing their hand too much. I think tweeted this earlier. Like i've changed my mind about. Who i think the giants. You're gonna draft about one hundred times last week. I think there's so many different directions they can go. It's very interesting. It's kind of fun to cover. Go and instant mystery but Yeah the biggest takeaways i mean. It's pretty clear they're gonna go after an edge rusher. It seems like they're high rushing this class a little more than people that are covering the draft are so. I'm gary interested to see how they address opposition. And we're we're talking with zach rosenblatt from nj dot com on sports talk new york zach Before we'll see if you can give us your pick before you wrap up of the sniper Who are on social media and otherwise who are the fans clamoring for who the top guy that giant fans are reaching out to you. Try you know that they want more than any other out. The number one is probably devante. Smith the how bam receiver. Obviously one is the last year I mean he's the he's always gonna be a guy that a fan base is gonna fall in love with because quote unquote sexy. Pick and now the big name. I'm actually seen a lot of fans pining for translator. The opposite lyman from western. And there's a lot of apartments a lot too. Because i think people really like his talented like so. I i tweeted. I asked the question of fans last week. are we could be week or to. What get drafted would make you the most angry. And they're pretty much like you'll be happy with everybody except for if they reach the generally. Actually i think i'd eleven. They're pretty good spot to get somebody really good. If you have five quarterbacks go ahead of them which is a real possibility so then that pushes them really players down to them. So they're going to be able to choose between some on. Mike smith or jalen lotto parsons or even one of the corners. Like patrick ser tan. Jc horn-like the they're gonna they're gonna wind up with a blue chip prospect which is a pretty big deal for a team. And do you have any intel on any rumored picks that the front office definitely does not want i honestly. There hasn't really been much about what they don't want I would say you know. I like i said i keep going back and forth in the kind of guys..

"To the podcast at wgn sports talk on itunes spotify or just about anybody anywhere you listen to podcasts. And before we jump into the show. Let's give a shout-out. The bill donahue was on before us get great. Show definitely check out all archives and show your support him as well and pete without any further. Do they want us back in the studio for another sunday. They didn't just let us back into the studio. They let us back on long island enough of a surprise. Amazing right I think the last time we were on long island was maybe fifteen years ago and they weren't too keen on letting us back onto the island they had they had some sort of border patrol right there on the southern state ready for us but today no problems were back but there were some exits blocks. I was getting a little nervous. It was a little weird. What was going on on the belt. We felt we were on the belt. Parkway yeah But that's your job when you're in the passenger seat you're supposed to be navigating you're supposed to be looking at your phone figuring out what's the best way to get here. I had to drive and navigate today. And i feel like that's a little bit of a burden are you saying i I dropped the ball. You didn't pull your weight. We took it a pre game meal at outback. So i got you well. That's perfect before we go any further into the belt parkway or the outback or whether or not they're going to let his back on long island we have a lot to talk about today. the mets with a four. Nothing win today. On the back of taiwan walker and some serious swinging of the bat from jd. While he he. I mean you made the point to me on the way in here. He was swinging. His job was on the line. It was almost as if he knew lewis ski or may it has gotten a couple starts at third. He has a much. If i say he has a much better glove than jd davis has. I'm almost doing a disservice to lewinsky. Orme he has a phenomenal glove as compared to jd davis on a team that maybe defense isn't their strong point. Maybe maybe see he was. It seemed as though he could've lost his job at some point but he came out today ready to go on the other side of things. The yankees dropped one. They draw after going out to a three. Nothing lead. which the wrong you. They came back the last two days after being down early today the opposite happens. They got a comeback late They the cleveland has the back late which they do They pull one out We've got a zach rosenblatt coming on in about ten minutes to talk giants and the new believe the draft you already. It's i cannot believe we are what four days away from the nfl draft. It's wild i mean in this draft. I mean it's obviously push-back in the last few years like it starts later and later but see i feel like free agency was yesterday and we draft so i mean and this is a really compelling draft this year really really compelling one well there there's a lot of different things that the giants can do now Given the off season that they've had Bringing in kenny golladay bringing in adoree jackson. We're going to talk to zach rosenblatt about this but now it almost seems as though the giants can pivot and look at a few other things and a few other holes..

"Pick back in what third twenty thirteen the blazing fifteen second round pick in twenty fifteen finally worked his way back however I'd be more interested in Randall Cobb this week than I would be. Devon Smith I think Randall Cobb with the he had a six and other six target game last week and we know that that role the Beasley Cobb underneath need the utilization with Michael Gallup out two to four weeks so both guys interesting against the Miami Defense Yeah. We'll get shellacked Alshon Jeffery. The status is in doubt for week three. I heard this morning that he's likely to miss week three and week four because it's a quick turnaround. That'll give him the extended recovery time. If Al Sean Jeffrey is out you know Nelson Aguilar. Yes you have to look at him as a very viable option D Sean on Jackson. There's hope from the Newark Star Ledger Zach Rosenblatt reporting that they don't think it's a serious injury but I don't know what his status this is for. We three right now unless somebody else no. That's all I have heard as well is a groin injury and such a great opportunity for him if he wasn't hurt but yeah for a burner to have the groin hurt is it's not a good situation. You don't want a burning. No you do not want burning in your groin area. No Okay James Connors knee injury not serious. He's confident he will suit up in week. Three against the forty niners Leshan McCoy's. MRI showed no significant damage. He may be able to play this week. May Not will monitor. We'll keep you up to date. It's early in the week. Josh Jacobs dealing with Groin issue tyrel Williams dealing with a hip pointer yeah so Williams will play through it. It's GONNA take a couple of weeks for him to recover hopefully won't won't hinder him. If if Josh Jacobs and Tyrel Williams are both unable to go oh man Goo Goo it is Darren Waller's. If you just want somebody to talk about me some day the way that Jon Gruden talks about Darren Waller yeah he's. He's just he did this morning. That comparison is Travis Kelsey. That's the new. Oh yes so give him. Kelsey targets then yeah well hopefully. He's you know in down the field. Yes impossible. Legitimately impossible Derek Carr is Derek Carr is capable of doing that. I see what Bruce and what his role in the offense is important with that release valves so that Derek Carr doesn't throw thirteen to fourteen interceptions per game Cam Newton's foot not good you know back with the foot. They kept saying there's no foot. Injury is not a problem how dare you why isn't he running. The ball is not the foot okay. He's he might be out. Is The foot yeah now practicing. "We have a full half hour coming up an hour from now with the great Al Michaels had a forty five minute conversation with him yesterday. Michaels is one of the rare people that when they're on the show. I I am so intent on listening to what the guest is saying I sometimes forget that at some point this person's going to stop talking, and I need to fill the gap was something like what am I going to say next. I'm just listening, and this is great. And it was great despite my involvement in it. You'll hear that in about an hour from now. Bob Glauber of Newsday is gonna join us in thirty five minutes. What's really going on with the giants and Odell Beckham junior? Is there a chance he could be traded? Bob also has a book that you're going to want to hear something about and then in an hour and a half. Our good, buddy. Rodney Harrison of football night in America wanna to talk to him about Super Bowl fifty three. And some of the topics going on in the National Football League. His thoughts on short quarterbacks. Would he rather face a short quarterback if he's defensive back or their advantages to having a short guy back there? Are there disadvantages because you can't see where the guy is? And you it's really harder to figure out what he's doing. If he's not, you know, head and shoulders above the offensive lineman. So we'll talk to him about that. And. Other things. Also. This is a story that we talked about on the radio side and on the surface. When I see the report from Zach Rosenblatt of nj dot com. Citing an unnamed source that it's unlikely Nick foles will return to the eagles is a backup. My first reaction was to be a little snarky below mean. Spirited and say, well, of course, it's unlikely Zach you're not telling us anything we don't know if likely is more than fifty percent and unlikely as there's less than fifty percent. Yes, it's unlikely the Nick foles will be the backup to Carson Wentz in two thousand nineteen especially if the eagles apply the franchise tag to Nick foles at what will roughly be twenty five million dollars for a one year salary. When you've got Carson Wentz in the fourth year of his rookie contract and his base salary. This year is south of one million. It will be problematic to say, the least if you have Nick foles as his backup at twenty five million sense. Kind of a weird message to the locker room if that's what you end up doing. But. The mar- looked at Rosenblatt story. There's there's enough meat there that maybe we can begin the process of connecting dots and predicting the falling of dominoes. And maybe can glean something significant because in addition to the comment that it's unlikely falls will be the backup to Carson Wentz. Rosenblatt points out that falls probably would be interested in playing for the giants. Probably I put that in quotes because it was in quotes in his story. Probably interested in the giants. That tells me this is coming from polls or someone close to falls. And this idea of rattling the sword about the giants. It makes me think because a week ago. I said, hey, if he wasn't gonna apply the franchise tag to Nick foles for the sole purpose of trading him there violating the CBA because you're not allowed to tag a guy simply to trade, and you have to have a good faith intention to employ him at the amount of the tag, which means if you're going to tag, Nick falls as the Philadelphia Eagles you have to intend to pay him twenty five million dollars to be the backup to Carson Wentz. But you know, what I poked around a little bit about that. I didn't get the impression that the falls campus all that upset about the prospect of being tagged. And now, I see this claim that falls would probably be interested in the giants. I kind of think maybe falls and his agents are trying to bait the eagles into tagging falls. When now why would you wanna do that? It's always better to not be tagged. Well, maybe just maybe. I know sometimes when we speculate people get their noses out of joint. But that's kind of what we do. It's kind of where there's value in understanding how things have happened in the past where the pieces are aligned now, and where they may go from here. What if the agents who represent Nick foles have already gauged the market for his services that happens all the time? It's tampering for the teams to engage in the gauging of the market. But there are ways to do it that are very, discreet that are very informative that our hypothetical if need be, but there's a way to find out. And usually the scouting combine is the point where the facade is dropped and people blatantly engage in tampering about guys who are due to become free agents. But we've had weeks now since the eagles ended their season and people are trying to figure out what Nick foles is going to do. It isn't all that difficult to find a way to have communications with the general managers are head coaches or others with organizations that may or may not be interested in Nick foles. And if Nick foles agents are learning. That no one really wants to pay more than twenty five million dollars a year on a long term deal. Maybe he's better play is to get tagged and assign it immediately. Whether you're the backup in Philly or whether you get traded to Jacksonville or wherever else to lock in that twenty five million may be the way to go. Because if you do hit the open market, maybe you're not going to get the kind of money that you think you're going to get at and stats for. I gotta give you credit stats. It doesn't happen often. But you had a good white. You had a good point. I'm going to reluctantly give you praise you raise the question that needed to be raised. How many teams really do want? Nick foles the seat in Denver is going to be occupied. By Joe flacco. We know that and we know that the Broncos considered falls and opted for flacco, which doesn't say much for false. When you've got a team picking flacco over false now. One of the factors was falls. It's going to cost more money, but it's going to cost more money. I don't know because who else. Is out there. Now you've got the Jaguars. Right. That's a clear potential destination because of the president John D Filipa. But other than the Jaguars where are the seats Miami. I I mean, I guess Brian Florez the new coach of the dolphins who saw close what falls did to the patriots in the Super Bowl just a year and less than a month ago. Could be intrigued, but you know, what I have a feeling that Bill Belichick was facing. Nick foles twice a year. He'd crack that code pretty quickly and he'd have extra motivation to do it after what happened in Super Bowl fifty two. So and here's the other thing too for all these other teams that need quarterbacks the dolphins. Who are we talking about? We're not talking about Nick foles talking about collar Murray, you've got an incoming crop of young cheap quarterbacks. And what did we see last year? We saw five quarterbacks drafted in round one. And how many of them are bust based upon one year? None what does that? Now. I'm not saying that these five guys are destined for greatness and pro bowls and bus in. Canton. But the fact that as we approach draft twenty nineteen the fact that draft twenty eighteen was five for five with first round quarterbacks. Is that going to result in more quarterbacks or fewer quarterbacks than otherwise would be picked in round one this year? It's going to cause a run on quarterbacks. It's cheaper. It's a trend that is working. We know it's a copycat league. So Cuyler Murray twain Haskins drew lock. If you're a team that needs a quarterback. Are you going to lock in with Nick foles now at twenty five million or more per year? Or are you going to wait and see what happens in the draft? I think that there's a real good chance that Nick foles people have had the conversations they've gauge the market and they've realized. Probably better off with the twenty five million via the franchise tag from the Philadelphia Eagles. I just have a feeling based. And that's the thing when you look at the report from Zach Rosenblatt of nj dot com. I'm trying to provide them a compliment here. I'll see if I can do it successfully the actual nuts and bolts, I look at it. And I say who cares. Right. But you think about it? You take a step back. You don't wanna miss the forest for the trees, I never really did understand that. But it sounds good. You don't wanna miss the forest for the trees the forest here is that maybe Nick foles knows. That there isn't going to be a land rush for Nick foles, if he hits the market as an unrestricted free agent. So the question becomes in this game of chess checkers and automatically chicken. Are the eagles going to let him hit the open market for fear of the possibility that he stays in the division. Did they use the franchise tag? That's why it's significant that someone close to falls is saying he probably would be interested in the giants. We don't even know if the giants are interested in him, right? Maybe Pat, Shurmur smart shouldn't case keenum. Maybe it's going to be the same end result that if the giants ended up case keenum, first of all they could just stick with manning. But assuming they're moving on for manning, it could be keenum versus falls in. Well, keenum's only. Eighteen million dollars falls is twenty five. The events of this week. I think are significant as it relates to what the interest will be a Nick foles, and how much money will be available available for Nick foles. And no matter what you do. And I think back to. When Kurt Warner had his resurgence in Arizona. He wasn't handed that job. Kurt Warner had his time as the quarterback for the greatest show offs on turf. Then he had that stretch when it fell apart in Saint Louis he was with the giants and he got benched freeway manning. And there was just a sense does he really have it anymore? Right. This kind of saints with falls, it's different because we've seen recent postseason performances that we say, oh, wow. Maybe he's got something. But he had that great twenty thirteen when he had twenty seven touchdown passes and two interceptions. And at one point chip Kelly, the coach, and he goes declared he'd be the starter for the next thousand years, and then it fell off, and it's hard to set aside that image of Nick foles as the quarterback of the Rams, and yes, we can blame. Jeff Fisher, we can blame the offense coordinator, we can blame everyone, but Nick foles, but if you're talking about looking at the body of work and coming to the conclusion that this guy's gonna make more than twenty five million dollars a year one year after the Vikings handed twenty eight million per year on a three year contract. Fully guaranteed to Kirk cousins. And considering that last year all those rookies taken in round one have worked out. I could see. Quite possibly.

"Check. Jack. And we're back. Nick foles still technically the property to Philadelphia Eagles. The franchise tag window opens next week within that two week period. The eagles will have to decide whether or not to apply to franchise, tag, Nick foles. There has been speculation that is their next move because they would like to then trade, Nick foles. Now, we've made the point that it's violation of the to tag a guy simply to trade him. There's a requirement that you have a good faith intention to employ the player. At the amount of the tender for the upcoming season. So if the eagles tag, Nick foles, what they need to be saying to the world, truthfully. And honestly, genuinely is we're paying. And we're intending to pay twenty five million dollars for this guy to be our backup quarterback, which I don't think anybody would ever believe. There's a report that at and look I don't want to be unfair to Zach Rosenblatt of nj dot com. Because the guys just trying to do his job. But when you tell me that it's quote unlikely end quote that foles would return to the eagles as the backup quarterback to Carson Wentz. You are not telling me something that I don't already know or in the exercise of basic common sense. Couldn't figure out. Of course, it's unlikely if fifty percent is the barrier and anything more than fifty percent makes it likely in anything under fifty percent makes it unlikely. Of course, it's unlikely that Nick foles is going to return to Philadelphia as the backup to Carson Wentz. Of course. It's less than fifty percents. That really doesn't help me understand. What's going on? What helps me much more significantly? Even though it's not presented this way. In Rosenblatt story is. The additional observation that falls, quote, probably end quote would have interest in joining the New York Giants. That tells me that Rosenblatt sources falls or someone close to falls, which begins to shed light on what falls thinks about all of this. Foles doesn't want to be the backup to Carson Wentz. Which really isn't a surprise. He'd like to play for the giants is all the more reasons. He the fact that that's even out. There is all the more reason for the eagles to apply the franchise tag. It could be it could be. Kind of glad we are slide down this rabbit hole. It could be. That falls wants to be franchised tact. It could be that falls agents have already gauge the market. To see what someone would want to pay Nick foles, and they have realized that a twenty five million dollar cash. Grab. Is far better than what they would get on the open market in a long term deal. Maybe maybe right. So when you start floating probably would like to play for the giants that definitely makes the eagles more likely to go with the franchise tag. So you get the franchise tag you sign it. You're guaranteed twenty five million. Then the eagles have a problem with they're going to do. Where are they going to trade you they're going to keep you on the roster is the backup? The Carson Wentz. That's the one solution that just doesn't work for anybody. It's time for the eagles to pick one or the other. And it's time for Nick foles, deflect some of his muscles in this. And maybe just maybe. The wisdom that is lurking between the lines of this report from Zach Rosenblatt may be. It is that falls is hoping and his agents are hoping that the eagles will follow through on this apparent plan to apply the franchise tag. Because really? Look at the thirty two teams. Who wants Nick falls at this point Denver's off the table. The Jaguars are the one most obvious candidate. For Nick foles would the giants. Even want him me. Pat Shurmur was in Minnesota and sought first-hand. What falls did to the Vikings in the NFC championship game? But again, I'm sure there are people in the NFL who look at what foles did in two thousand seventeen some kind of crazy Slumdog millionaire scenario where all the planets lined up. Just right for Nick foles. Never mind. The fact that he had a pretty good run this year to to get the eagles into the playoffs and to win a playoff game that everyone except me. And maybe a few others thought they would lose. But maybe Shurmur. Isn't really? In the I must have Nick foles camp. So. The Miami Dolphins have an opening and Brian Florez knows a thing or two about what Nick foles can do. Maybe the dolphins would want falls did have to face. The patriots. Twice a year. Although I have a feeling that Bill Belichick. Check would figure falls out pretty quickly. You've got none of the teams in the AFC north and less Zack Taylor wants to throw. Andy Dalton overboard. Alot Taylor's got a big issue right now. He can't find a defensive coordinator, the AFC west is under control. I don't think. Derek Carr is out for Nick foles in Oakland. The giants. The teams in the NFC north have their quarterbacks in place, and if see south they've got their quarterback, Tim place unless Cam Newton goes the way of Andrew luck this year after the shoulder surgery and in the NFC west they've got their quarterbacks. It's weird. There are many seats. The music hasn't even started. There aren't many seats. And you know that one of these teams the dolphins has designs on collar Murray. Right. Maybe maybe the Jaguars thinking column mercy. Here's the thing. When you're faced with the choice between paying market value or something in the neighborhood of market, value and market values. Now, thirty three and a half million just mid level market value to a guy who we're not sure whether or not he can sustain the magic that we've seen in a postseason the past two years versus rolling the dice with a guy on a rookie wage scale contract. Maybe that's the news here. Maybe rosenblatt. What's that cliche that I never understood miss the forest for the trees the trees for the forest or something about? You miss the forest for the. Yeah. The forest is there's another f word that may apply to Nick falls hear.
