"zach hyman" Discussed on 31 Thoughts: The Podcast

"Of thirty. One thousand podcast. Thanks so much for joining us today. Lots happening I shouldn't happen. Lots being talked about elliott and will stick with a couple of canadian teams. Here right now and we'll We'll start with the maple leafs. I'm of the mind that this is probably going to be a six times six deal. What's happening with zach hyman right now. Well he's got the permission to talk to all these other teams right and you know what i think happened again. Nobody direct like none of the direct sources will talk about it. But the best i can piece together is like i think toronto wanted to keep them and i think he wanted to stay. I agree with you. I think there's a six times six or maybe seven times six out there potentially for him. We'll see where this goes. I think what toronto tried to do. And this is kind of gas and educated. Guess was they tried to. Max hermit to bring down the av And i just think it's too far from where highlands potentially going to go here. You know. I think it's like a lot of players i think there's a willingness to leave something on the table. I i just think the gap was too big of what potentially is out there. What they suspect is out there. And what toronto could do so. Even though i think toronto tried to mac term it. I just i don't think they were. They were able to get close. See that surprises me. The idea the toronto would would max term this thing and again i understand this is this is your educated speculation but you know we just mentioned the avalanche and being an analytics driven organization and so is toronto and the same aging curves that exists in colorado exist in toronto with the maple leafs as well. And here's a player. Who plays an aggressive rough brand of hockey which can to injuries. And he's twenty nine years old and that type of commitment on term to a player where you know. The history of these types of players aren't flattering for those types of contracts. I don't disagree with you. Jeff but i think what that may have shown was just how much toronto felt about this particular player. And the other thing you can always do is try to make it so that you know it's easier by audible at the end of the deal ever. I guess it just showed. How much toronto thought about hyman that. They really tried to find a way and i just unfortunately don't think it ever got close. You know the The other speculation that edmonson. There's a number of teams would be interested. Edmonson was one of the first ones that popped up and my first thought. Was you know what type of good did zach. Hyman do in her previous life to be able to play with austin matthews and maybe connor mcdavid early andrei cycle in this life. Do we know if there is still interest from edmonton edmonton's one of the teams in there. You know. I know there were some reports in vancouver. That knocks are there too. I just like to talk about the quick sec number one. I do think the contracts are looking for that kind of player. I think they have some interest in in in jaden schwartz. I don't think they're the only ones you know. There's going to be a few other teams looking at schwartz. Like i wonder. For example of landis gog leaves if colorado goes there maybe. La goes there. He goes back to saint. Louis i mean those are all possibilities for him but the other thing about vancouver i i wanted to mention wherever some brock besser rumblings. Yeah on thursday. This is what i think was going on with brock besser. I do think his name came up. But i don't think it's because vancouver's got him on the market. I really think that it was vancouver. Going after something they really wanted or needed and besser name came up as the price that it was going to cost them. And i really believe that if besser was getting move this year it was purely because of a deal where vancouver got something and we would say. Okay now we kind of understand why this happened. I don't think his name is being thrown out there. I think it was specific to a certain kind of trade. So i don't think it's a general besser available. Let me stick with vancouver here for one second. What's going to happen with nate schmidt here. I think they're going to to trade him. They are trying to move him. I think everybody knows. I hope said. There's no nate schmidt's situation. And i guess it's all semantics. Maybe there is no situation. But i think there's an understanding that You know he'd like to play elsewhere. And i think they're going to try to accommodate them but they could have a lot of holes on their blue line. They're they're trying to sign. Adler i don't know how deeply they've gone with hammock yet. There is a chance he comes back and ends up back there. But i do think they're trying to find him a new home. Let me get back to toronto. then We just talked about Zach hyman the goaltending situation. We've talked about a plenty jack. Campbell is the goaltender under contract. He will be a maple leaf next season question. Mark about frederik anderson question mark about number three. Who's out there on another team right now. What are your spidey senses. Tell you about the goaltending in toronto. It's a great question. I think the goaltender market's gonna be really interesting. You know with the montreal situation now. Where they're they're gonna leave weber unprotected in there. They're gonna lose. Jake allen you don't think they can do a deal to get ron francis to stay hands off. I hear it's expensive man. He don't someone told me who had been a position to know that the The ask and this may all changes. The deadline approaches. That the ask for staying hands off of a player as a first and a third. I've heard it's been very very high. That's very very high. That's very high very very high and that kind of fits but i. I haven't heard that you know the goalie. Market's going to be going to be fascinating. Someone told me that you know this new dell covid thing is really interesting you know. Carolina has indicated that they think what he could win in our is too high and you know some people wonder if it's appear negotiating tactic but other people tell me. They think they're serious that they'll only go to a certain point with the delicate and and then they might move on any maple leaf wise. Well i should talk about. The goal is because i keep on losing my train of thought right like this is not your fault. This is my fault like my flee like attention span. I keep getting distracted by something shiny. The name of this podcast cats and laser pointers go really is so true. Goalie wise everybody thinks seattle is taking dreger from florida and signing him. Now will that happen. I don't know but people are expecting it. So what other goaltenders. Now i think seattle is interested in whole be but not at the number. I think they want to see if they can get vancouver to retain something or try something there and then seattle's undoubtedly going to take a couple of goalies to see if they can flip them because if it's dreger we'll see what happens. Withhold be and montreal things. It's going to be allen and all of a sudden. Where else could we be going with this. Didn't we all think. I thought that anton khudobin was going to be one of those guys but then big ben bishop goes out in agreed to waive his no trade right. There's another one bishop. Mike smith isn't signed yet and edmonton..

"Into marriage with a nice big body, check as marriage and clears the puck down to the hawk line. Luke Johnson trying to work at free from what look like the pitch forking there of Matthew's he does have route at center ice, and he'll fire it off the right boards and down behind the leaf net. Sparks out the to the near corner to Travis Dermott. It was a two season teammate with the cat Alex debrincat in Irian the Attilio Hockey League. Speaking of caddy hands it off. Wind down the right wing cuts back in front of the net and could not complete the mission potato got the puck left corner shipping it away from NS along the boards at it knocked off his stick. However, not by the leash Andreas Jonsson down ice. It goes. Gilkey Harley with the puck behind the hawk net. Steps out feted ahead. The tastes hawk line. Cook a run on the right wing at center ice part of the penalty boxes. Lost the handle on the puck Taveras will move. It ahead for Hyman. He deflects the puck into the right wing corner. Hawk zone racing in to get it. You sack Hyman? One knee behind the net. They came out with the puck scraped away by Keith. But right onto the sticker Riley left point. He fires and Yawkey Har you knelt down to block that one Riley. Got it back high slot. Fires turn wide rebound scar. And it's John Taveras on the doorstep slapping that one Paris Cam ward. Taveras? It's his second goal on the season and gives the Leafs a three two lead. Hurry, walked one of everything kinda got a little bit confused. They're just a shot with lots of traffic in front of the net to Ford's for the Maple Leafs. To Ford's for the Blackhawks and just alzon errors area were diverse is Johnny on the spot. He picks up his second goal. Contract Levin million dollar cap that surveyors. Come back home team. Traffic makes the initial save. The can't control the rebound Cusco do a better job of finding a way to get into the shooting lane there. I don't even take the first shot gets through to Cam ward Zach Hyman in front of the net. So may police down to nothing and scored three consecutive goals. So Taveras from Riley at three fifty six of the second period three to Toronto in behind the hawk.

"That's quite a quote to begin with us is worth mentioning but that's an interesting thing that godless was mentioned yet you know there's a fem with a lot of the track names having names like deliverance heaven hell god's plan miracles these are all names of songs on the album what is it about those religious ideas or themes that makes you keep returning to them i think for me a lot of the stuff on the record is about faith or belief not necessarily religious sense because i don't identify as that but it's more of a things that you believe in what turns out to be real and in fact some lyrics i wanted to talk to you about that touch on exactly from from that song heaven hell am i real if you can see right through me if i'm in a magazine is this heaven or is this hell through a silver screen you say you're watching me but i can't tell does that have to do with you as a public figure and i think it's a relationship with the idea of entertainment and authenticity is probably changed a lot since the beginning of this band but then even with that i feel like as a person as as a woman person as well like feeling we're constantly being bombarded with this information these images in your this is real honest authentic and most of the time it's not you know the internet's wonderful thing that the internet it's not real it's all about like projected things and i think it's hard win that projected as if it's like onus in truthful authentic and it's sold to you like that as we talk about this darker side of the internet i did want to talk about.

"Storytelling it's reading and that saddam life is something that i love to do and it's a passion and it's cool that i may will to kind of combine the two and and people enjoy it if you've ever watched teen movie from the eighties you'll notice a lot of stereotypes about athletes jocks are always jerseys letter jackets they only care about the big game the next game how dated is that stereotype oh i think it's really dated now i think that athletes want to be well rounded people and you know your career only lasts a long and after that you have to figure out what you wanna do with the rest of your life so i think that it's important for athletes six four all avenues of of their life and all passions that they have and not to be just one side of you gotta be a multifaceted person and i think that that's a really important tell me about the hymen hustle what is that how did it become a thing it's a hashtag i think so i mean i don't know who made it up but it's just i think it it just makes to how i play i every time i get on the ice i i wanna give a hundred percent that's kind of been something that my parents have taught me from when i was a little kid that's been a messages if you're ever gonna do anything life you know go and give a hundred percent and if it doesn't work out then it doesn't work out but if you give a hundred percent you don't have to you have no questions to ask yourself and that's what i do on the ice i tried it every game just giving my all and i mean i'm i'm the hometown kid playing in my hometown from hometown team and it's a surreal feeling it's a privilege to play here and every time i saw on the ice i wanna i wanna make the team proud and i wanna make the fans proud and i know that growing up your father was like an impressario for for minor league hockey and i i'd read that you'd said that people didn't give you enough credit they were like.

"Inaction as they open up against anaheim other games tonight boston role to a five one victory is they beat back the toronto maple leafs the power play very effective one two three power play goals for the boston bruins brad marchand david backes and david krejci david posture knockin sean keraly with even strength goals the only tally for the maple leafs from zach hyman as it was a five one boston win over toronto and what else that later games right yeah i mentioned that anaheim watching games last night mad and you given the scores here the only series that i worry because i'm kind of minnesota while fan they got played badly by winnipeg i know it was at home but the other series it's not going to be easy like devils one and deserve to get in but soda soda colorado i mean they didn't just do that by floundering around down the stretch they want a big games and they came up under pressure and and they had some moxie they take they showed courage and spirit under adverse conditions so again you say that they're ahead i don't know how it will unfold after game too but i i suspect that these series are going to be much more competitive than you might might believe they should be if you had devante smith pelly game winning goal paul it's now gone by the board seth jones is scored a power play goal at fifteen thirty four to tie the game at three can you imagine if washington loses matt the fresher under here in the playoffs devils lose tonight by a score of five to two will take a listen to some highlights and wrap things up on the post game show right after this you're listening to devils hockey on the one jersey network checking there's crosschecking.
