Fresh update on "zach" discussed on The Rich Eisen Show

"I do love it. Welcome to chippendales. We talked about it with Adam ray. We could not show the clip of Adam ray because he was surrounded by scantily clad individuals. It was like Jimmy the MC or the MC yeah. There was a lot of dancing Camille plays. The founder of chippendales. Murray Bartlett, who I do believe won the Emmy for the white lotus. He plays, I guess the ideas man behind the scenes and Juliette Lewis is in and it as well, and it's on. Right now. So he'll be joining us. We got a great celebrity true or false with him. So it's neat stuff. Ian and Springfield, Massachusetts, you're here on the rich Eisenhower let's take your call. What's up, sir? Are you iron? I don't know. Are you Ian Ian? Okay, very good. Welcome to the program. What's going on, sir? How's it going? All right. Okay, what's going on are you? Nothing much. I was just wondering why I took the jets so long to put in the best quarterback on the team and what's your thoughts on that? Come on now. You know why he wasn't in, you know why he wasn't in? Do you want to win? No, they chose somebody's second overall. Last year. I mean, you know that. I understand we chose Zach's second overall. I understand that completely, but as a clear and obvious difference between the two. If you just looked at his first pass against the bears, we took him three step dropping through a laser beam in between the safety and the corner to hit Garret Wilson on the swan. Zack doesn't do things like that. And you can see that in practice, you can see that in games. So I just don't understand when you have a team that's capable of making the playoffs all season. Why waste time? Because Zach probably has shown, although I will not discount Mike white at the expense of talking Zach Wilson up a little bit here. But there's a reason why he was chosen second overall in a draft that had Trey Lance and Justin Fields and Mac Jones available for the jets to choose. As well. Because you saw what he was doing at BYU, you saw what he was doing on his pro day. I mean, so Mike white made the throw. Yes, and can make the throw. Zach Wilson can make that throw too. It's just that he is his footwork and everything else around him is so discombobulated, the jets want to make sure he can reset. And that's what they say. So he can make those throws. And then whatever off schedule stuff that does come their way, he might be able to make place that Mike white can't. See what I'm saying? It's possible. That's a possibility, but I'd rather have a guy that gets the offense going on a timely manner and having things. Of course. Absolutely. Certainly when you've got a defense can win the game for you. And everybody's done that for 20 years. I'm with you. Thanks for the call. Appreciate it. Mike white is the next Tom Brady. You heard that from Ian. I'm with, I'm with him. I told you, if Mike white continues to play like this, Zach Wilson is done playing with the New York Jets. How does that sound? He keeps playing like this and he goes and takes the jets to a playoffs and he starts to play off game and actually sends them to the divisional round? Okay. No sacred cows, man. And the owner is giving Salah and Joe Douglas, the room to say, our bad on the second overall pick of the draft, you can say that if your team makes the playoffs anyway, and sometimes rich, don't you I mean, I realize you're a high draft pick. But if you realize you made a mistake, isn't it worth to just cut that mistake and move forward? As opposed to going well, I made this and we gotta stick with this guy because he's number two, even though and I'm not saying because we all know that could turn out to be great. I'm just saying in a situation of course, of course. And you take a look at article. I mean, take a look at what's going on here. Is that if he beats the Vikings or performs just as well against the Vikings and then continues to do it, they're not going to go back to Zach just because they need to see what they have in him or rehabilitate him in time for next year. They're doing this because they can make the playoffs now. Currently the 7th seed in the AFC. Look, you can't waste sauce this time, you know what I'm saying? He is just so good, man. The rest of that defense is so good. 8 four four two O four which is the number to dial. I can't believe this is a story, but it has been, and we talked about it. Jeez, it was our top story today, because the quarterback in Denver and the coach in Denver had to talk about it. The locker room situation in Broncos country, let's ride. That's right. And the latest question about it is Russell Wilson's birthday party RSVP list and who showed up and who did not. But what I would love to get, wouldn't you love to see the attendant sheet on that? Wouldn't you love to see it? Like a wonderful Bryant was there because her in Sierra. This is the whole deal is that you'd want to go to a party one would think that they are throwing. And it just kind of got me to thinking, you know, whose birthday party would you go to? Well, if they're being thrown by an NFL quarterback, and I decided to sit down and yes, come up with a power rankings. Of the top ten quarterback birthday parties, I'd prefer to attend. Hit it.

A Lot Has Changed Since We Last Spoke to Zach Bradford...

"Zach, welcome back to the compass podcast. It's been two months, maybe, since I saw you last, so it's great to see you again and a lot has changed since we last talked. I mean, how many names can we just list in chapter 11 bankruptcy right now? Quite a bit. You guys are again exceeding your expectations. Actually revising your forecast for hash upwards. You guys continue continuously seem to be doing better. We'll get into that in a little bit for the strategy portion, but first of all, welcome back to the show. Hey, thanks, will. Happy to be here. Always good to talk. Awesome. So let's talk about market sentiment to begin with. And we were just talking before the show started about Thanksgiving was last week and there was definitely a lot of conversations with family members and friends about why did you make me buy that token and why did you make me ape into that async. I had a few of those conversations, luckily I was spared the most of them, but it sounds like you were not spared at all. Let's get your general reaction to the market sentiment of BlockFi as of this morning actually elected to file for chapter 11 bankruptcy. So as the most fresh wound, we're recording this in the morning of November 28th, but yeah, just get your first take on what's been going on. Yeah, yeah. It's definitely been a volatile market to say the very least the last couple of days. Absolutely had some of those conversations, like I'm sure many of your listeners did. Thanksgiving. Everybody's got the uncle that seems to know everything, right? So, and I think that what shows, though, is that the conversations are still happening. It's still top of mind, and I think it's a good thing. For most of my conversations, we're about the difference between Bitcoin and the rest of cryptocurrencies, because yes, Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency, but cryptocurrency is not Bitcoin and all the reasons that that matters. So I think it's been a great opportunity to educate people. But also to educate them about we have this decentralized tool in Bitcoin. And we've seen people head right back into centralized finance and put it on exchanges and the exchanges and the centralization is really the problem.

JP Morgan Believes Centralized Crypto Exchanges Will Remain Dominant

"We are going to start the show off with a bank report. It's been so long since I've had the chance to troll will with one of these. So here we go. JPMorgan analysts say that centralized crypto exchanges will remain dominant despite FTX is collapsed, which contradicts some crypto native figureheads who predict a shift towards DeFi platforms in the wake of FTX implosion. The analyst cited an absence of a limit order stop loss feature on DEXs dependency on price oracles that source data from centralized exchanges, hacks and exploits as some of the reasoning. Zach, I'm going to kick it off to you for your thoughts on this bank report. Before will foxley dunks on this poor bank analyst and calls him a midwife. I will stand up for this report and I believe that this is right. Humans have a long history of entrusting other people to do complicated things for them. And sometimes being your own bank sucks, and sometimes yield farming out on the wilds of DeFi also sucks. And that's why we saw firms like Celsius and others leverage some of these DeFi protocols to give lazy users some of that sweet, sweet yield. And I think directionally, if that's the argument that's being made here, directionally that point will stand. And I think despite all of the chest dumping that this is DeFi's moment, I think probably those are pretty stiff like stiff human headwinds to overcome, right? That desire for laziness for entrusting others to do things that, you know, can be tricky, especially in crypto with self custody assets.

"zach" Discussed on Popcast

"What if I said happy first of all, this song hit me very hard during a challenging little stretch of my summer. The power of him writing from the perspective of knowing that he is not the right person for the other protagonist in this song. And how this person basically doesn't want to be bothered, like basically he would only be a disruption to that person. It's written so beautifully and so cleanly, but also even though it's rooted in a kind of disappointment, it's such a hopeful song. The chords, the arrangement, it feels almost jaunty, but it's so sad on a lyrical level. And I just admire the hell out of it. Really, really hits very hard. That little weird tension of sadness and hope is all shook up in amazing jar on a Zach Bryant song. I heard someone say once that people misunderstand some types of music when they hear sad music and they think it's just sad. But you don't bother to feel so sad about everything. If there's not some more hopeful version of life that you on some level believe you could be achieving. And otherwise, what would be the point of feeling sad about it? And I feel like happy instead it's a good example of that. Incredible record played it a hundred times this summer for easily. That's so interesting. I haven't heard anyone say, the ones people always shout are heavy eyes. When you're with the boys, that's the one they're gonna scream the loudest that is that show. I would say. But from this record, that's the one I hear about the most. Man, there's so many good ones that I love. I'm into tisha mango, whisky fever, okay. It's a rollicking jam. Billy stay speaking of swiftie in. I would say that in the same way that she wrote a letter, I believe, ahead of reputation. It was in one of those target exclusive magazine type things. And it was essentially saying, I'm not always being autobiographical. And I feel like I'm often reduced down to always telling stories about myself, but sometimes I'm just telling stories as a storyteller. That's a reduction of what she wrote, but that was the sense of it. And Zach definitely does that too. There's some songs like Billy stay, where he is writing from the perspective of an Alzheimer's patient and wanting to just for a moment. He's writing from a woman's perspective and wanting to remember her lover Billy. It's just so different and interesting and weird. We talked about him doing character work that obviously that there are songs that he is not the protagonist. And that in a way, he said the EP was maybe even a little bit more character work, a higher percentage of character work. Then on the album, the EP is summertime blues or this EP that came out afterwards, and there is some autobiography on this, or at least things that approach autobiography, such as motorcycle drive by, I opened my story with the scene of him a couple of weeks after heartbreak comes out. It's a big success. He's taking a little bit of break from the road. He's with his girlfriend. They're having a beautiful day. And then the next day, they're on his motorcycle, and he crashes out. And he gets pretty badly injured. That Rick's one show that I was at, and you were also acting. And I was at, yeah. Yeah. That was his just happened. That was his first show back. After the motorcycle accident, I think it was within maybe four days, 5 days of the accident. And that was the gossip in the crowd. I was there with my father and my best friend because our other friend dropped out for his new girlfriend. So I was like, dad, do you want to come to this show with us? And so we went and saw that, but the gossip in the crowd was like, why is he wearing sunglasses? What's going on? And he sings about that on the record. He sings about the people in Richmond want to hear me sing my songs under lights, but he's feeling so ashamed of himself at the same time. Just based on the conversations we were having, it's very humbling. You're on top of the world and also, you know, he's been riding motorcycles since he was like 14 or 13 or whatever. You know, to be on top of the world and then to have something like that happen. I think it was obviously deeply humbling and troubling that it could all truly just go away in a second could just be gone. But yeah, that day in Richmond, he was wearing sunglasses and also he had a bandage on one of his arms, I believe, from if I remember the detail correctly, I think his break pedal basically went through or was inserted into his arm. I mean, just imagine how much worse this all could have been. Really, really, I think caused him to reflect and really just if he was already mentally committed to like, hey, I need to create more space for myself and also like a more manageable version of my career. I think having a near death experience with your partner, your girlfriend, also going through it with you, you know, that just that'll shore up that desire for certain. The chemistry of that evening, I've gone to a lot of freaking shows in my life. I add as easily the most electric evening I've ever been to at a concert while at night, the thunderstorm that night. Well, it was like heat storming and everyone was parked just in a giant field. And you don't actually have the opportunity to kind of, or you weren't supposed to have the opportunity to really tailgate. But basically, they wouldn't let anyone into the venue, and it was up in the air for about three hours if the show was going to happen. So everyone stuck around. The cops even let people go and get beer and stuff and come back in, which you normally wouldn't be allowed to do. So everyone was so fired up or it had a lot of alcohol. No one kind of knew if the show was going to happen. So then when they finally at the last second, we're like, come in. Everyone poured in and the opener poor Charles Wesley Godwin only got to play like three or four songs or something. But then, man, everyone screaming every lyric and all the backdrop of the storm, everyone's a little wet. We'd all been in this together. Zach was maybe feeling some type of way from the accident. It just created a truly insane evening. I loved it. Probably my favorite show I've ever been to. Really, really intense and special night. You know, I saw him there and then I went to Indianapolis just from a timing perspective. That's where it made sense to go and do the bulk of the interviewing for the story. And I watched the Richmond show side stage. So you kind of see the crowd, but you're also not in the crowd, right? Indianapolis, I watched from the middle of the crowd. And boy, that was more powerful. Just more powerful, really, really intense. And I know we're just, we're just two guys sitting on a podcast talking about watching other guys sing along to another guy. I know. I understand it's silly. I understand that it's a narrow slice of the global experience. But having been through a lot of these narrow slices in my day, it was very special. I'm pumped that Zach has become such a big fan and supporter of Charles Wesley Godwin, who's been essentially his permanent opener, this whole year. Charles is two albums have both been in my top two for the years that they were released and his band the Allegheny high is incredible. And I don't know, it just makes me happy that I think a lot of people are starting to realize, oh my gosh, this guy's voice is one of a kind, his writings really unusual and cool, so I'm just excited about this friendship. Let's go out with maybe my favorite Zach Bryant song. It's tough to say. There's a lot of really great ones, but we're gonna go out at the end with Oklahoma smoke show. This song reminds me so much of that early Casey musgraves song. You know what I'm talking about? Merry go round? Yeah oh yeah. Yeah, reminds me of that. It's a darker record. The undercurrent of the threat of violence in this record. It's cold. This is a cold record, but the conundrum at its core. No one can reject you like your hometown can. That's exactly right. And no one can understand how limiting a hometown could be, then someone who got out and that's something that I think Zach Ryan is reckoning with actively. In his life and also in his music. So we'll play Oklahoma smoke show as we're going out. That's our show. Thank you to Grady Smith. Listen to every podcast ever at NY times dot com slash podcast,

"Out on the road or I'm not in contact with people and people are like, where's John? Where are you? What are you doing? How come we haven't heard from you in a couple days? And the answer is I am enrichment, Virginia. I am in Indianapolis, Indiana. And I am in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Chasing the Zach Bryan story, which is what I was doing for a not insignificant portion of this summer. Zach Ryan, who you may know, has an album that came out a few months ago called American heartbreak that debuted in the top 5 of the billboard chart and has been hovering in the top 20 ever since also had a subsequent EP called summertime blues. That is very good. At the beginning of the episode, what we were listening to is Oklahoma City, which is one of several really great songs on American heartbreak. Zach Bryan is a dot dot dot country adjacent adjacent rock adjacent performer. He's a navy veteran, incredible songwriter, really, really beautiful rough edged singer. And has been building an incredible audience online while he was still in the navy and kind of came out of the navy last year and arrived almost fully formed into playing to three, four, 5000 people a night, and now that number is crawling upwards. It is an interesting case study in number one, how fandom is created on the Internet. It's an interesting case study for the boundaries of country and what we think country is and what it actually is. It's also fascinating to be at these shows and see, frankly, young men singing along top volume versus and choruses. And not just in the front rows. I'm talking all the way in the cheap seats. A real thing is happening with Zach Ryan, and it's something that's not really on the radar. I think of a lot of people, we did podcast live a couple of weeks ago, not that many people in the audience were up on him. It's not really hitting in the more traditional media centers. As you might imagine, but it is an extremely real thing and Zach Bryant is doing some fascinating work and I was really excited to be able to tell his story in depth. So we're going to get into Zach Ryan's backstory a bit into his music. And there's really only one person we could do that with. And that's Grady Smith, country music YouTube king, Grady, what's good, man. Hey, thank you so much for having me. Great. First of all, of course, a pleasure. Grady also interviewed Zach in 2019. Early team early and this is when Zach was putting out independent record I think deanne, which was the first independent record, had just come out and all of the progressive country music Internet was a gog. And Grady was on it early. Grady and I were going to get into a big conversation about what Zack's doing now, where he came from and also, like I mentioned, some of the bigger picture questions about genre and audience that his success is kind of triggering. Grady, let's before we kind of go back to 2019. Can we talk a little bit about the summer that Zach Ryan has been having right now with American heartbreak and summertime blues. How surprised were you or are you about the persistent success of American heartbreak? I'm not surprised at all to be honest. The best gauge for me is not any chart metrics, not any radio performance, none of that. It's just my DMs. Because how I can tell. Me too. Me too, Grady. If people are happening and if there's genuine passion, their fans go out of their way and for years now, there's no one that can touch Zach in terms of the sheer amount of messages I get about him. And I've covered him from the beginning for so long and still probably the most common comment I get is, hey man, are you going to weigh in on Zach Bryan? And I don't know how much more I can do. I've been on it, but you can just tell. You can just feel it. There's something happening just like you said. I have some theories about this, but I'm curious about your theories before I impose mine. What do you think is setting apart this particular fandom from fans of other, whether we want to say progressive country, rough edged foe, like folk raw, rocker folk, whatever. What is setting his fandom and the enthusiasm of this fandom apart from some of these other artists? I think the populist aspect of it is a pretty huge factor. The way Zack's rise occurred with these pretty crappy, I think at first just like iPhone videos that were popping off on Twitter and then it led to still just very lo fi, maybe they were using a better camera, but low 5 videos that were on YouTube. There was just this giant trove of content that was out there acoustically very undecorated. And I almost think in the same way that you see Gen Z Instagram aesthetic is all about kind of crappy, blurry photos and photo dumps versus the over filtered over perfect millennial aesthetic. I kind of think the same thing is maybe happening in music and there is this draw to this trove of acoustic content. And I don't want to bury the lead here. I think Zach's an amazing and unusual songwriter. I was very struck being at these shows seeing oodles and noodles and oodles of young men. 20, 22, 24, singing along with the passion that you would see KPop fan singing along. Taylor Swift fans singing along. Nicki Minaj fans rapping along. You don't see a lot of what really scanned to me as like male vulnerability and male intimacy, you just don't see a lot of it in live music, not that much. I was incredibly struck by that. And it made me think a lot about what's going into Zach Bryan's songs. What's the sauce in these songs? That's triggering the safe space for these young men to really be expressing themselves through singing and through the shared experience of singing together. And when I was trying to kind of put my thumb on it, I think what it is is what Zach Brian writes about is both very small intimate moments, but also this kind of like big picture sweeping generalization. There are these kind of anthemic ideas. And he talks a lot about kerouac, he talks about it, you know, his Twitter and he talked about it in the interview with me. I think there's like a mythology that he's building one song at a time. And I feel like young men are buying into that. And maybe even seeing themselves in it. That's how it kind of registered for me. And I wonder what have you been picking up on? I've seen the exact same thing. I actually call Zack fans sad boys and that's what that's what I call my own audience too. YouTube's a very male platform, so I think I've experienced a lot of that as well. I think there's a feeling out there among a lot of young men of just, they're not so good and there's probably a big reasons culturally that they might feel that way, but I do think Zac has a certain self loathing nature in his writing that does feel like a bridge, I think, for a lot of people. The original song of his that popped off, the original song that I connected to was condemned. Which is literally, I'm condemned. That is such a brutal thing to say about yourself. We'll dig up the original Twitter video of condemned, which is out and about. We'll find it. We'll play a little bit of that right here.

"That's a good question. I think it depends on a few factors. I would actually say that December 31st were two 30 to two 40. And here's why. I'll tell you why. One, I think we're going to see a few more distressed miners that maybe they have to shut down facilities. Maybe they don't. But the way that the power curves look, I think that miners that are exposed to market rates that don't have a good plan around it. They're going to be shutting down because of natural gas prices because winter everybody turns their heater on. So at the end of the year, I actually think that we'll see a climb for the next 45, 60 days. I then think December will see our first what we'll see some decreases in percentage. And then I think we'll see it start to climb again late February. So I think what we're going to see is a bit of a wave. So if you were to ask me is it going up for this next quarter? I'd say yes from a hash rate perspective. But I think end of year, we're going to see a little bit of a dip. So I think miners ready to weather the storm have a good power plant and stay plugged in. I think we'll get a little reward, hopefully. A little holiday bonus. But as part of that, I think it'll be good. And then it'll climb back up. I power curves like really good for the country, I'll say, from a cost point of view, middle of next year and beyond. So I think the miners that survive until next spring are going to thrive for at least through half and then half is going to create its own set of challenges. Yeah, chaos awaits there, huh? It's probably the best answer I've gone to date. Best analysis for exit hash by end of year. That's why they pay you the big bucks. Appreciate it. Zach, thank you so much for joining us on the mining pod. Appreciate your time a lot. Thanks for joining. Hey, will. Thanks a lot, happy to be here.

"That's what I'm saying? I don't believe it. Do they go with the quarterback that they put in there if it's Flacco if it's do they go in there? No. They go two and zero. They coming right on out when you're ready to go. You blew that? Yeah. If they go to an you got to see what you willing to bet. The diagnosis for his injuries going to change. Is he compromised if he has to miss a month's time? He is. If he doesn't, if he misses the rest of the season, nobody going to trip out on that. But the whole deal to miss regular season games, if they get in there, they get in there and he's such a good athlete that this will affect him because of his athleticism, like he's a really good athlete, man. And I don't think people realize that. But if he can no longer get out of the pocket, it makes him pretty much one dimensional. But let's talk. I mean, he is young. We acting like a man who just got his leg cut off or something. He young, he gonna come back for me. Yeah, no, no, but I'm talking more so because he wasn't that good as a rookie. Right. I mean, I'm not talking these victory is the time. I'm not talking about if he comes back and he's healthy. I'm God bless. I hope he does come back healthy and he is young. I'm not focusing in on the injury itself. I'm focusing in on the collateral damage of it. If he is out for the first couple games of the season and the New York Jets, not a team not always wins, but a team that has struggled gets out to a fast start in the season. So whoever the quarterback is. They coming out. They're going through the I don't believe. 100% guaranteed. The guarantee. The injury reports. Now, I will say this. If he's not a 100%, they would probably keep the court, but at that point, what is it? That'd be about four and a half weeks out if he missed the first two games. They say it's two to four weeks. He's a young quarterback. You need to have that. Flacco Mike white, whoever it is. You go to a back to the basket. If I'm coach Saleh, I'm sitting there and I'm like, if this veteran quarterback has led us to a two and I was going to maybe three of them. He going to the bench. He going to the bench. Zach Wilson is your future. If you're a team to find out. But if you're a team that hasn't been successful and you're no, don't mean you're going to be successful. But you just want two games. But you've started out with two Wednesday then you probably generally start off with. I don't even know who they play. They not starting to win on. This year. And you guys said this a second ago, well, he didn't play well last year. He didn't. Who was his starting receivers? Every quarter. Last week. Trevor Lawrence. You couldn't even name them though. No matter. I can name Zach Wilson. Hold up. Trash season. Trash season. Zach Wilson. How many Ricky quarterbacks outside of burrow? Herbert played well in the last 5 years that you can remember. As a rookie, Lamar Jackson. Lamar Jackson later in the year. You can't. You can't. Give me a second to think. Play well as a rookie. You can't. Yeah. All right. And we're just gave you one TJ. Go look at those teams and say, who are the whiteouts? Okay. Look, look, we up on the break, but look, who was a White House for the Chargers. Oh, he had Keenan, oh, okay. Who is white up for jumper? Oh, okay. Who's right off the calamari? Oh yeah, they had Hopkins. Oh, okay, now it's starting to make sense, huh? Yeah. They start the season off with the ravens. The browns. The Bengals. L, the Steelers. Possible LA for show zero and three. And then the packers. See? If I'm Zach Wilson, I might not want to come back until they get done with great listen. I might wait till they get done with Green Bay before I come back. They may, they may, it's possible, but for show Owen won. I don't know, hey, Lizzie, you're listening to the upper game. That's the smooth sounds of TJ has been trying to plex and go birds. TJ crazy. On the other side of the break, James Jackson, he gonna get on somebody's head or something's head, gonna get on the head, pause. Anyway, it's I'm on your head. You're listening up on game. So whatever that looks like, it changes person to person. Oh yeah. I mean, here's the good news. Everybody lived, right? Yes. By the time the podcast begins, when you start recording Zach, everyone has lived through whatever sexual trauma they have gone through. And then they've realized that it's just sex. I never thought of it that way, but I should remind people that they're alive, that they made it out. They made it out. I mean, I mean, I had a friend who used to tell her story about she lost her virginity, and she was like, at the end of when I lost my virginity, all I could think was, wow, that wasn't, that's not that big of a deal. Okay. And then you're like, well, let's do it again. And maybe it'll be more fun next time. And then it'll be fun. And then it'll be less fun, and then it'll be just fine. That might have freed the slaves or something. It's not, well, the thing is, it's so unlikely that it, that it is that, right? I mean, there's so much pressure, or at least I feel some pressure. Let's talk about me. Because it isn't everybody, but I feel some pressure to try to do, like I wrote this weird they them joke, right? And it's a good joke, and it just sort of at its best it acknowledges the pronouns and the fact that it's not that big of a fucking deal. And but is it the best joke I've ever written? I've talked myself into a corner here because it actually doesn't matter if it's the best joke I've ever written because it was the joke that I wrote. And now it is on an album and it can't, it doesn't matter if it was because the best joke I've ever written might be the next joke, right? Or what currently is the best? Okay, Zach, I think you should take over. Well, no, I'm I relate so hard because I feel like at first the challenge when one is being creative is like to just say anything at all. Like you have to figure out. And so then I feel like the next one is, let me also personalize it. My original challenge was just figured out what the fuck to say. And when I figured it out, I was like, oh my God, I have all this stuff that I want to say. And then I was like, okay, now you need to make it better and also getting more personal is like the next challenge. And like being real and opening up. "So Zach, you're running your gym, doing some personal training with somebody, get to know this guy, kind of takes a like into you. I want to ask. What do you think it is that this guy saw in you? I mean, you're a personal trainer to Jim. You're running a gym, which is all good, but how did he think you know, what do you think he wanted to bring you over to or on capitol? Yeah, I think that's probably the most important question because for everyone listening, I think that it can be difficult, you know, wondering what do you have to offer in other job markets, right? And so one thing that I learned from him and that now we continue to apply is we're looking for people that have the right, what you might call soft skills. These are the skills that they're the intangibles that are much more difficult to teach. And so, you know, in any job environment, there's hard skills which are, you know, if you need to type on a computer, do you know how to type, right? Do you know how to actually run the models and do the things operate the equipment, whatever it is? Well, this was something that I even implemented at the gym as I was looking for people, not necessarily that had the best training resume, but the people that had the best qualities to lead them to being successful in the role that I was looking to hire. And this is really what came out from boron capital to me was they were looking for somebody who could help work with people who could help manage relationships who could understand the business and then also have, I'm going to bring out some Marine Corps here, but the honor, the courage and the commitment, the integrity, to come in and actually operate within the company. And so, you know, we've talked about it and he's come back and shared with me. You know, it was your drive. I saw a relentlessness where you showed up every day. You continue to get better..

"Are not spending any time actually creating content, paying tons of money to have content created, all of that stuff, all while enjoying our free vacation. How is that even possible? Guys, I mean, honestly, when I get these free stays, I do absolutely nothing. Pretty much, I hire out video and photography content creation. So let's say that I go to the Maldives. I search for the top photographers in the Maldives. Where do you search for them, by the way? Photographers in Maldives are photographers in Bali. Got it. So you just Google that. Yeah, just Google that. And then I email them and I'm like, hey, I'd love to hire you for a couple of hours. And it's usually like if you can get a local person to do it, that might only be like $25 an hour. So then it's like, I hired them for a couple of hours. I create epic content for my personal brand and the hotel for like 50 bucks and yeah, you know, 15 to 20 edited photos, like a 62nd video, you know, that's amazing. So if I'm staying at a hotel in the Maldives that costs 3000 a night, I don't mind spending 50 bucks on some content creation and then doing some posts on my Instagram. That's a really cool hack. So you guys don't need to be photographers or videographers to do this. You know, you can just hire out. So fire nation, I hope you recognize that there are just ways to create a business and a lifestyle around so many things. This included. This is just kind of one of those things that resonates with you, whether you want to be traversing the world, potentially for free to a lot of places, doing these different things. Hey, there's some great tips tools and tactics here. Or alternatively, if you just want to be testing some of these things out on some vacations you have plan coming up, or even some staycations, maybe close to home, have some fun with this stuff because guess what? It can't hurt to put in the hard work and to learn a little bit about Instagram and what they have going on there. So Zach, what is the one major takeaway that you want fire nation to really make sure they walk away with? What is that? Just what we're talking about, right? This doesn't only apply to free states. This just applies to everything in life. Create win wins and then offer an insane amount of value so that people don't say no. And of course you're going to hear some notes, but that one knows going to lead you to that next yes. So it's just about being consistent persistent, never given up. Fire nation, remember.

You know a family that's gets gets their meal to restaurant bows her head prayer. I think is an incredible proclamation. But out i'll be honest there are. I've sat down with someone at sours that i wanted to get to know and i have not a mill and i haven't is because i felt like they were so unedu- about who i am and then we try to force feed them some kind of spiritual message. They're they're the walls are up whether it be the muslim or whether it be Whether it be any theorist where someone not even know exactly where they're at in. And so i had went there. I just kept maybe worship official divers discovered another. Listen to them You know. I've heard people say got to preach and prayer and there's probably place times for that but maybe sometimes you just can tell that this is might really set them farther on edge. All this i did this is why he wanted to meet with me. Because you just want to force your message down. I don't know some people might might offer that But i have to be honest. "Good morning. Everyone welcome back here to strength strength bryant all mostly now from state college and excited. Have zac bargain with us here this morning. And he's coming to us from the country of thailand and the city of chiang mine where he and his wife and their little son judson And another shouts in com are. They're studying linguistics at the university Zach is a member with on nations by translation a member in trading. He clarify that little bit ago. I with me. I wish is right But he's kind of between the member training stage and being a member actually getting to the filled Zach has a real interest in the asia. bible is people groups there and Our prayer is that guy believed him a team into that part of the world there to see god's get translated into into their language and zach. Tell me how old are you. Twenty states zack is twenty six years old as a young man. He's a man who has been applying himself for the last number of years longtime actually in just being A faithful follower of jesus zach has a role vision to see the kingdom of god spread on her and nessa vision that he's held for a long time which is why we have manja this morning. He he's been interested in evangelism for years. And i'm curious zack. When how as you think back into your life what when you hit the streets to go evangelizing or go reaching people. I noticed part of your life. And what really and now that in in this Came this This paper that you our this talking to begin this morning but How how young. What was your age that you got out on. The streets Jesus in a big i was eighteen. I actually it was. My family moved here anand. The by had a friend here who would surely a charismatic Dragged me out to the the night markets where there were a lot of foreigners and People and that's when i really started started getting into. Yeah yeah interesting That's that's that's great so When zach was at god's by school setting greek in preparing to be a translator he had class on evangelism and and he wrote this paper called witnessing jesus and It's a it's a it's a title that says what like what are you. What are you shooting for here in this in this paper and so recently i heard Zach talk about share-out Topic on this paper that you wrote and said does act. You need when you get you. Strength strength strengthen. Have you talked about that here. So it's good to have you with us here this morning. Zach looking forward to hearing you share and i. This is a group of people on this call. Who care deeply about being faithful witness for jesus kingdom and we're we're always thinking about what. What does that look like so looking forward to single you have to share before we get started. I just have a have awarded prayer. Pray father thank you for your mercies are new this morning. Thank you lord in debt. We can come to you in confidence with with joy. And it's not just because jesus has died on the cross but as it says it rooms a but farther more he is risen and he is seated at at at your right hand. At god's right hand are father's right hand and his interceding for us there into that gives us much hope much Rest much piece in nine net and also We we we know that. Jesus commission us to go and be witnesses of yours to all the safafa asked laura debt as zack shares. Give him a word speak. Give them a clear. Mind father and may you be glorified. It may your kingdom come in new way through this talk Then we asked this in. Jesus name right. It's all yours. Zach by the way glenn zach will wanna share his screen so hopefully you got that setup there four okay so all your start by sharing my screen here. Don't forget later ended some right here. It's good to be with you. All this is the third time. I've made it live to join you down actually recently. Here's we moved to thailand and gutter home. Set up here have had a lot more time to listen while i was cleaning up our our yard and things like that. So i've been catching up on the podcasts and really have enjoyed the The i think it's key and country series huge courage to me so for those of you in charge of this. Thank you for what you're doing in spent huge blessing to me. I think i think the timing is interesting as well was a dumb ill Say shyly what was beat. His notionally so i really enjoyed his talking identified a lot with with him and mike taylor was that but great to be with you all the title. I have here. Is witnessing jesus and that's supposed to be a double meaning so the title. Witnessing jesus modern methods of evangelism by jesus's gospel conversations. Kind of a twofold meaning. They're like. Brian talked about ever since. Yeah god really started working in my life here. In in asia one major part of that has been going out and doing ministry with strangers. That's looked a variety different weights You've seen people out reaching her braying talking to people. It's likely that. I used one of those methods that you've seen or been with people that have and and i don't give that an so. I've been doing this for about eight years now. And a lot of campus ministry during the time that i was studying cincinnati ohio studying hebrew and greek there in preparation to transition. I don't give that background to give it back or not to say that i have attained. You'll see this. Paper came out of a lot of conviction on sort of second word of the meaning of the stock. Wouldn't sink in light of studying the way jesus People compared to the ways. Maybe i had on that conviction came out of years and years of doing this and not seeing That i would like to see. And maybe that's perfectionism or something. That's wrong with me. But certainly.

"If you really focused your time and energy into that thing then you know who knows where he can go on. How much more enjoyable. Your life can be if you're able to turn your career into a passion of yours so i think like that is something i would tell. Tell people folks on that. See the thing you're good at and you kind of sparks that flame and with that unit society doesn't really want you to like it's non. Traditional in odds are low of like traditionally defined success. Just do that thing i've struggled. That is like it was always clear especially in school this stuff. I'm actually good at stuff that the world wants me to right. Yeah and i wanna be a plumber. When i took that task my sophomore year but even like like academically just going to university in academia. There's certain ways. Even the in. I would say even in the thing. You want to do the way you do that. Think the world will want you to do a certain way and even just like finding your way of doing. That thing is really powerful for me. The way i do research the way i learn is is different than colleagues of mine and have realized that that i really liked to follow things. I'm passionate about versus sort of the rigor of studying like the fundamentals. All across the board building up and castle on the fundamentals layer upon layer. Just there's much of details in the way pursue the very thing that i currently do. That's different than others and it took me quite a long time to accept like you don't need to do it the way everyone else doing. It doesn't not everyone else but majority of people telling you to do it because one is beneficial to do a different because then you'll more likely stand out and two like why the hell are you doing it the way it's not working for you you know. I saw that all the time. When i was teaching. I was dual certified. I was might certifications. Were history and broad field social studies so like econ Psychology history. All that stuff. And then i also had a certification special education which was people think special education a lot of times as like. Oh it's the you know the kid who is not smart enough to do the regular thing when reality it's like there is some the there's obviously like your like certain things like down syndrome and stuff like that. But there's also like a huge population of groups of both a gifted and talented on one in the spectrum where they're incredibly smart and they're like the geniuses but for whatever reason the standard method of learning does not click with them does not work with them and then they just need a slightly different path or maybe a drastically different path and they're gonna just flourish and you have kids that and falling on the other end where you know. Maybe it's really difficult for them to build a read at the speed of other students but if you give them this specific direction they can just thrive in certain areas. And just seeing that like the you know the that there's multiple ways to do stuff and there's not necessarily one path to the end. Is i think such an eye opening thing to learn especially if you learned. Maybe that's what should answer the question. They asked new with this. Keep an open mind as to what pads are forward and know that you know maybe just because even if you look to your left right and all your classmates are successful doing it. one way. it doesn't necessarily mean that's going to be the way for you. Yeah so that could land you in eating meat base dining across the country Like the the incredible madman that you are zach. I'm a huge fan. As i told you many times units brazen too many. I'll be there checking in every day. If you somehow make it out the starting lineup..

"Neum and better help check them out in the description to support this podcast as a side note. Let me see. The zach has been advising coaching me on my own running journey. I want to mention that. Zach sent me some running shoes from ultra which i think is a company that sponsored him. When i put those shoes on i feel exactly as watching me and get that extra motivation to make him proud. And by that i mean i wanna put a lot of miles on those shoes running something. That has always been difficult for me. But i love it because it's difficult. The hardest part is i'm left alone with my thoughts for one or two hours. Some thoughts at dark like about mortality my own and that of others some are self critical like weaknesses or dreams not realized some are simply human feelings of loneliness personal and existential and yet they're the moments during a run when all that fades and i'm left empty of negative thoughts and full of appreciation for the beauty of experience of nature life. The whole thing. This is why return to running not to get in shape but the face myself and to run through it. that's why inspired people exac and by demagogue ins and others like them who seek define the limits of their body and mind as usual do few minutes of is now know as the middle. I think those get in the way of the conversation i give you time stems see if you skip. Please still check out the sponsors by clicking the links in description. I hope you don't skip. Because i do try to make these interesting but anyway if you buy the stuff from the sponsors hope you'll find value in it just as i have this show sponsored by ladder. I often meditate on my mortality often. Talk about it. I think this is both honest and clarifying for who i am and what i wanna do in life. If you have others in your life you love and you do the same. You should consider getting life insurance. How's that for a stoic. Inspired pitch for life insurance ladder can help you with that..

I've got Zach Bohannon he lives in Tennessee with his family and as a full-time writer of horror and dystopian sci-fi, I've known Zack for a couple of years. In fact, I was being coached by him and Jay Thorne for a while. They partner on quite a few books. They do. They do their own also SEC. Also is the co-author of the three-story method, which we talked about. It is something I love and would recommend to any writers out there. He's got a lot to say about choices and working from home, and it's a very good talk. I'm glad he took the time to talk with me. I just recently saw him in Salem at one of the writer events that him NJ run. So it's kind of nice that this is coming out right after that. When he and I actually got to meet face-to-face for the first time. We've talked on the phone, we've talked on chat but never face-to-face and that's dead. A very special thing to be able to do with someone, you haven't met in face-to-face before, especially as writers, where we tend to be very secluded. So is a great topic, was glad to get back to it, cuz we've recorded this couple of months ago. If you haven't checked out, Zach stuff, I've got some links in the show notes. I've been reading his dead body series which he talks about and I've been enjoying that immensely. So check it out and here's Zack. "It was our head coach and it was aaron roderick. Who was who was his position coach and really should be credited more than anyone for zacks development But i really feel like you know once once that got comfortable within the offense the more we trusted him to go out there and play Carefree once once we really And we certainly worked to develop an offense that would that would fit him. But i think he's a guy that does care about the team you'd love to throw the football every play but he wants to win and so i think as he grew and developed as a player. We trusted him more and more and this this past year in particular. There weren't very many times while we were saying Be careful there. Were very very few times that we were saying. I remember. this was more or less just calling the way then. A zach go do your thing. And we trusted him that that when we when we didn't have the best the best play call that he could find a way to run around and still make something out of it. You know coaching thinking about that. Let's let's fast forward and let's just say that you are in. Nfl head coach. Went offense coordinator. And you have. Zack wilson and you have the opportunity to build an offense around him. What do you think the best offense is for him to play like what things need to be in that offense to maximize. Who will i think i can do it. All there's not. There's not anything in the game that he can't do he can make all the throws i know. That's a that's the thing that a lot of people say. But i think it's it's It's really not that true about that. Many guys he really can make all the throws He has tremendous timing and touch on the deep ball And so i think throwing the football down. The field is something that made a made a huge impact on our team and on on him. is his progress this year. And so i think i would. I would start with that. Willingness to throw the ball down the field With the play action game and be willing to to to throw it deep several times game you know not just not just say we're gonna take a shot every now and then but really make a commitment to throw the ball down the field because he has the ability to make you pay..

I think something really cool is about the half track. It's been great to see his development as a player. he's always been really special in terms of athleticism in how much he loves the game. His approach and his drive towards becoming the best. You can beat the touchdown. Our zach is a far superior athletes aaron rodgers. Everyone.
