"If the colts won, it was because Peyton Manning won the game. If Tom Brady won, it was because, well, he's on a good team and that's interesting to me. And then another thing that stands out from this kind of segment of the episode is when Tom Brady, he gave a very the word is like very LeBron esque statement where Tom Brady said that young guys with talent still have a lot to learn. And then it goes back to lawyer malloy, how when Tom Brady was a young quarterback? His meetings with Bill Belichick, his the stuff he learned from lawyer malloy. How to work, how to become a superstar in the NFL, and every Tuesday. Bill Belichick met with Tom Brady and they went over the defensive personnel of the team they were playing that week and broke down all the weaknesses and strength, strengths of every person on the defense. And actually, oh, a couple things came to mind when I heard this. Number one, it reminds me of actually Brady Belichick early relationship reminds me a lot of jets young rookie quarterback, Zach Wilson. And his relationship with Robert sala. And I had a lot of thoughts. First of all, the benefit of having a defensive head coach is when they meet with your quarterback they have a defensive perspective. And they can share wisdom that you have a head coach that was on defense when I was in college. And there's no other way to say it than straight up is a different philosophy. It's a different way of looking at the game a little bit. Like tweaked enough that it can be really valuable to get in the head of a defensive coordinator. So I have no doubt that these meetings were invaluable. And I talked earlier in the week about Justin Herbert. Justin Herbert was in college. And I thought of my college career. I never had an opportunity to sit down weekly with my head coach. And part of that was I was never the starting quarterback, but we had a great relationship in my head coach in college and I think I was just busy all the time with classes. And I can't really state enough how much more time you have to focus on football in the NFL than in college football. Because in college, your attention is always divided with all this other nonsense. You got to go to classes, you got to deal with, especially the lower levels of college football. But even talk to naji Harris, naji Harris is the Pittsburgh Steelers running back. And naji Harris said, it's weird in the NL because I have all this free time. And Alabama, I was always either doing football or in the classroom doing my homework or meeting with tutors or whatever. And I think of Justin Herbert, the former orkan ducks quarterback who I thought in college Justin Herbert was a quarterback who had a lot of little mistakes and flaws, and he didn't seem to get better over the course of his four year career at Oregon. You always saw the physical gifts in the natural talent he had. But then he would miss like bubble screens or little reads and there were little parts of his game like he couldn't take some off and throw the ball a touch up and over defenders. Why is that not being taught to him in the quarterback room in the QB meeting?.

"Do some experimenting. This year, they're just trying to win. So, before I let you go here, Zach, you are obsessive about league pass. You have these rankings. There are a bunch of teams obviously we did not mention in this conversation due to time and due to restraints on my sanity. Who do you want to shout out as a team that our listeners need to go and watch? Well, Charlotte is the obvious answer. We're all excited about Charlotte, miles bridges, he's going to humiliate someone with a dunk so badly that that person is going to retire on the spot. They're going to run a lot, they have lamelo, they're going to play zone. So that's the obvious one. Let me try and give you a couple like non obvious ones. I think the grizzlies Ja Morant is a show. That dude is a show. He is out for blood when he tries to dunk on people. He's the guy that his teammates love to play with because he's unselfish in terms of both getting off the ball and passing. I think he's wonderful to watch. Wait, exactly. Let me ask you this because I feel like it's contractually obligated for me to do this with you at this point. I have to ask where the knick slot into all of this man. I think the Knicks I'm optimistic about the next, I think the next are gonna be good. I mentioned how the top 6 in the east is really, really good, and that means getting out of the play in for everybody who's not in that group is gonna be tough. If you assume one of those top 6, let's call it Philly. Falls out of the top 6 due to certain circumstances. Does you have to pick like, okay, who do you think is the team most likely to break in from the bottom and escape the plan? I'm taking the Knicks by an air over the bulls. I think the Knicks qualitatively are gonna be really good. They're not really good, just good. Zach.

The Zach Wilson Era Is off to a Disastrous Start

"So let's talk about zack wilson. Because you mentioned him and watching him lose twenty five to six at home to the patriots and bill ballot check and bill. Bella check destroys rookie. Quarterback's he consumes them. He picks their bones. That's all stuff that we know already cleans. His teeth with the bones of rookie quarterback is what he does but we saw jets fans alex. You know throwing in the towel and it's week two. And i say that because they were literally throwing souvenir tales from the stands. And zach wilson. The four picks. I'm curious about climbing into your memory bank here because what do you. Alex smith remember about playing the colts back in two thousand and five pablo. I've definitely tried to forget this one all right but we're good. I do remember my first career. Start the number one defense at the time and like the colts were in their heyday. Payton was rolling. But that defenseman dwight free robert matt Bob sanders. i mean it was. It was a joke and yeah. It's all a terrible blur for me. Like four picks i think my rating was it like it was a disaster but i think that was a clear design i was i just turned twenty one. I mean i played only two years in college in a spread system now trying to plan their center. Probably this become this pro quarterback whatever that is and It was not good. I was definitely i. I felt unprepared. And it was a disaster and it showed. You've been a guy who had a four interception game really early after being a top. Pick your the number one overall pick of course. What do you counsel him. Hypothetically what do you stay to him after a game like this if you were to visit him. Alex smith kind of like a ghost of christmas future. What do you. What do you tell a kid who's very talented but also just had a day like this. I think exactly that. I mean i think you gotta go like for me. I just go to the third and fourth picks that he grew and pause before the snap and look look like jack. It's ten to three on this one. It's in the third quarter we got. There's a ton of football left. There's no reason to throw this ball up The way he did and then even the second one in the fourth grade. I mean i think it was thirteen to three. At that point. There is still time. Left like again I think going back to just doing your

One hundred fifteen looked like it was going to ruin the series for vaccinated and unvaccinated people alike due to be published rules the upcoming series which starts in september right there at the end of september. They're paid or equity value of their stock if they come into contact with another person who tested positive for cova kovic recent guests on the lock in and resident w recipes are kev. Could you imagine if there's been some changes since but like as we were a few weeks ago when this was first coming out. Could you see anyone in the right mind. Sort of thinking. I'll get into this. No backers are going to put some words into if they think someone sneezed on them two days ago and they have equity take announced off them yet. I hadn't heard that that's that's pretty weird to me like he had seen. It seems way to general scary. And i would think they would come up with a more specific way to phrase to be to make. It sounds scary. I give you some money back in certain situations or whatever you know. It just seems wakes that. That's pretty bad now. Well they were keeping an eye on clarification here. Holiday trying to detach the pope and i couldn't help be pulled into this story and public media were naturally rage at this prospect which trends to make the series forest to be honest this lead to the issuing a statement about the rule is essentially saying that the rule only applied sorry to unvaccinated players. If i know that they're comfortable with that but That's what i've sat but sure sometimes without depends You know that's that's interesting. I i think i played prayers important. You know a family that's gets gets their meal to restaurant bows her head prayer. I think is an incredible proclamation. But out i'll be honest there are. I've sat down with someone at sours that i wanted to get to know and i have not a mill and i haven't is because i felt like they were so unedu- about who i am and then we try to force feed them some kind of spiritual message. They're they're the walls are up whether it be the muslim or whether it be Whether it be any theorist where someone not even know exactly where they're at in. And so i had went there. I just kept maybe worship official divers discovered another. Listen to them You know. I've heard people say got to preach and prayer and there's probably place times for that but maybe sometimes you just can tell that this is might really set them farther on edge. All this i did this is why he wanted to meet with me. Because you just want to force your message down. I don't know some people might might offer that But i have to be honest. And he's coming to us from the country of thailand and the city of chiang mine where he and his wife and their little son judson And another shouts in com are. They're studying linguistics at the university Zach is a member with on nations by translation a member in trading. He clarify that little bit ago. I with me. I wish is right But he's kind of between the member training stage and being a member actually getting to the filled Zach has a real interest in the asia. bible is people groups there and Our prayer is that guy believed him a team into that part of the world there to see god's get translated into into their language and zach. Tell me how old are you. Twenty states zack is twenty six years old as a young man. He's a man who has been applying himself for the last number of years longtime actually in just being A faithful follower of jesus zach has a role vision to see the kingdom of god spread on her and nessa vision that he's held for a long time which is why we have manja this morning. He he's been interested in evangelism for years. And i'm curious zack. When how as you think back into your life what when you hit the streets to go evangelizing or go reaching people. I noticed part of your life. And what really and now that in in this Came this This paper that you our this talking to begin this morning but How how young. What was your age that you got out on. The streets Jesus in a big i was eighteen. I actually it was. My family moved here anand. The by had a friend here who would surely a charismatic Dragged me out to the the night markets where there were a lot of foreigners and People and that's when i really started started getting into. Yeah yeah interesting That's that's that's great so When zach was at god's by school setting greek in preparing to be a translator he had class on evangelism and and he wrote this paper called witnessing jesus and It's a it's a it's a title that says what like what are you. What are you shooting for here in this in this paper and so recently i heard Zach talk about share-out Topic on this paper that you wrote and said does act. You need when you get you. Strength strength strengthen. Have you talked about that here. So it's good to have you with us here this morning. Zach looking forward to hearing you share and i. This is a group of people on this call. Who care deeply about being faithful witness for jesus kingdom and we're we're always thinking about what. What does that look like so looking forward to single you have to share before we get started. I just have a have awarded prayer. Pray father thank you for your mercies are new this morning. Thank you lord in debt. We can come to you in confidence with with joy. And it's not just because jesus has died on the cross but as it says it rooms a but farther more he is risen and he is seated at at at your right hand. At god's right hand are father's right hand and his interceding for us there into that gives us much hope much Rest much piece in nine net and also We we we know that. Jesus commission us to go and be witnesses of yours to all the safafa asked laura debt as zack shares. Give him a word speak. Give them a clear. Mind father and may you be glorified. It may your kingdom come in new way through this talk Then we asked this in. Jesus name right. It's all yours. Zach by the way glenn zach will wanna share his screen so hopefully you got that setup there four okay so all your start by sharing my screen here. Don't forget later ended some right here. It's good to be with you. All this is the third time. I've made it live to join you down actually recently. Here's we moved to thailand and gutter home. Set up here have had a lot more time to listen while i was cleaning up our our yard and things like that. So i've been catching up on the podcasts and really have enjoyed the The i think it's key and country series huge courage to me so for those of you in charge of this. Thank you for what you're doing in spent huge blessing to me. I think i think the timing is interesting as well was a dumb ill Say shyly what was beat. His notionally so i really enjoyed his talking identified a lot with with him and mike taylor was that but great to be with you all the title. I have here. Is witnessing jesus and that's supposed to be a double meaning so the title. Witnessing jesus modern methods of evangelism by jesus's gospel conversations. Kind of a twofold meaning. They're like. Brian talked about ever since. Yeah god really started working in my life here. In in asia one major part of that has been going out and doing ministry with strangers. That's looked a variety different weights You've seen people out reaching her braying talking to people. It's likely that. I used one of those methods that you've seen or been with people that have and and i don't give that an so. I've been doing this for about eight years now. And a lot of campus ministry during the time that i was studying cincinnati ohio studying hebrew and greek there in preparation to transition. I don't give that background to give it back or not to say that i have attained. You'll see this. Paper came out of a lot of conviction on sort of second word of the meaning of the stock. Wouldn't sink in light of studying the way jesus People compared to the ways. Maybe i had on that conviction came out of years and years of doing this and not seeing That i would like to see. And maybe that's perfectionism or something. That's wrong with me. But certainly.

"If you really focused your time and energy into that thing then you know who knows where he can go on. How much more enjoyable. Your life can be if you're able to turn your career into a passion of yours so i think like that is something i would tell. Tell people folks on that. See the thing you're good at and you kind of sparks that flame and with that unit society doesn't really want you to like it's non. Traditional in odds are low of like traditionally defined success. Just do that thing i've struggled. That is like it was always clear especially in school this stuff. I'm actually good at stuff that the world wants me to right. Yeah and i wanna be a plumber. When i took that task my sophomore year but even like like academically just going to university in academia. There's certain ways. Even the in. I would say even in the thing. You want to do the way you do that. Think the world will want you to do a certain way and even just like finding your way of doing. That thing is really powerful for me. The way i do research the way i learn is is different than colleagues of mine and have realized that that i really liked to follow things. I'm passionate about versus sort of the rigor of studying like the fundamentals. All across the board building up and castle on the fundamentals layer upon layer. Just there's much of details in the way pursue the very thing that i currently do. That's different than others and it took me quite a long time to accept like you don't need to do it the way everyone else doing. It doesn't not everyone else but majority of people telling you to do it because one is beneficial to do a different because then you'll more likely stand out and two like why the hell are you doing it the way it's not working for you you know. I saw that all the time. When i was teaching. I was dual certified. I was might certifications. Were history and broad field social studies so like econ Psychology history. All that stuff. And then i also had a certification special education which was people think special education a lot of times as like. Oh it's the you know the kid who is not smart enough to do the regular thing when reality it's like there is some the there's obviously like your like certain things like down syndrome and stuff like that. But there's also like a huge population of groups of both a gifted and talented on one in the spectrum where they're incredibly smart and they're like the geniuses but for whatever reason the standard method of learning does not click with them does not work with them and then they just need a slightly different path or maybe a drastically different path and they're gonna just flourish and you have kids that and falling on the other end where you know. Maybe it's really difficult for them to build a read at the speed of other students but if you give them this specific direction they can just thrive in certain areas. And just seeing that like the you know the that there's multiple ways to do stuff and there's not necessarily one path to the end. Is i think such an eye opening thing to learn especially if you learned. Maybe that's what should answer the question. They asked new with this. Keep an open mind as to what pads are forward and know that you know maybe just because even if you look to your left right and all your classmates are successful doing it. one way. it doesn't necessarily mean that's going to be the way for you. Yeah so that could land you in eating meat base dining across the country Like the the incredible madman that you are zach. I'm a huge fan. As i told you many times units brazen too many. I'll be there checking in every day. If you somehow make it out the starting lineup..

Zach sent me some running shoes from ultra which i think is a company that sponsored him. When i put those shoes on i feel exactly as watching me and get that extra motivation to make him proud. And by that i mean i wanna put a lot of miles on those shoes running something. That has always been difficult for me. But i love it because it's difficult. The hardest part is i'm left alone with my thoughts for one or two hours. Some thoughts at dark like about mortality my own and that of others some are self critical like weaknesses or dreams not realized some are simply human feelings of loneliness personal and existential and yet they're the moments during a run when all that fades and i'm left empty of negative thoughts and full of appreciation for the beauty of experience of nature life. The whole thing. This is why return to running not to get in shape but the face myself and to run through it. that's why inspired people exac and by demagogue ins and others like them who seek define the limits of their body and mind as usual do few minutes of is now know as the middle. In fact, I was being coached by him and Jay Thorne for a while. They partner on quite a few books. They do. They do their own also SEC. Also is the co-author of the three-story method, which we talked about. It is something I love and would recommend to any writers out there. He's got a lot to say about choices and working from home, and it's a very good talk. I'm glad he took the time to talk with me. I just recently saw him in Salem at one of the writer events that him NJ run. So it's kind of nice that this is coming out right after that. When he and I actually got to meet face-to-face for the first time. We've talked on the phone, we've talked on chat but never face-to-face and that's dead. A very special thing to be able to do with someone, you haven't met in face-to-face before, especially as writers, where we tend to be very secluded. So is a great topic, was glad to get back to it, cuz we've recorded this couple of months ago. If you haven't checked out, Zach stuff, I've got some links in the show notes. Ned once again forgetting this as a podcast on youtube fever half of our viewing audience on youtube point so majority rules. Technically we should only be doing video gags at least doing half visual half way round. Gags it just audio facts. Yeah what are you getting in. You said you were like oh and we were in the new office. I'm going to have a board that is full of crazy stuff. Oh yeah you guys headphones. Mr cooper sounded where my headphones headphones right behind me. It's mounted on the wall. And everything tried to broach the subject. And all you can sit with us. Girls laughed at me. They said we don't wanna wear head of hair care about. They look at changes will make us better at our job. I agree but they didn't want to do it. And so i said the guys are going to put on the headphones. Get ready because i do have sounds. Here's what about this now. Okay because we're all in a room and the normally when we're talking we have to yell at each other to delve into that a little bit more now. I oh well that was different. And i'll tell you that now. I can have be at any level i want. That's feeling yeah all right. I think everything sounds good. That's good. I think it sounds good. Oh yeah there's the audience loves loves to be here. We've got quite the show tonight okay. That's enough thank you please please. Affects fade out and not just hard. Cut power. the hard cut only these are some of these. I am assembling. I am assembling soundbites from all the other gas berina. These are the ones that came with the mixer. I have a good one. Actually you know what. Let me debut a couple rainy couple yesterday. That was working on shoutout rainy. Here's a good one her hand. I think you're really gonna love this one here. We go trolling us in the comments. Stop watching rachel. Oh yeah this will make us feel more like podcast hosts. I think so too. I mean i'm used to just yelling and screaming as a classically trained stage. Comedian has damn right. So i didn't really hurt nets feelings yesterday. We haven't had a chance to talk about this. So i i really didn't mean to. I noticed a trend in our videos over the last two months. And i don't know how he moved here where our videos have all kind of began with this intense montage of screaming accompanied by screaming at the audience and i think it was subconsciously us. Adopting some of like well. Mr video start really dramatically and quickly button. I would point out also. He has an audience of ten year old boys and we have an audience of twenty-three-year-old women. So i think that there is something to learn from that but also i did notice some comments that we're like. Hey it's starting to get like really aggressive than we. Can we tune it down a little so yesterday in our video we started. It doesn't mean we don't want me with and improve energy doesn't mean we come at but so i said like hey can we. Can we do this one. Nine screaming much more aggressive aggressive apologized manner was like tone it down. We've been screaming a lot and videos lately. I'm like oh okay. I guess i'll do different. Welcome to this new episode. we're going to spin a wheel and cook something. And i'm like oh no. I did not realize that my bedside manner was so poor and i will admit a punchline to that was zach rolled on the wheel and then said like literally came in yelling right after saying. Can we take without yelling. Did it excited but not. It's it's not that we don't do excited. It's just that we don't go because that's been a lot of our video lately that you know it took it hurt me. I'm why explain. I do appreciate the explanation and i think we should try different ways of hooking people's attention my go-to is you know yelling tie energy. That's like you know pretty. It's not yelling at someone but it's like excitedly loudly talking about what we're gonna do that day Yeah anyway. i don't know what i mean. This is a whole new world. Because i feel like i can hear myself Miles for turning the are we worry. Chill boring now. I hate to see. It's just like so not pleasing hard. it is noth- leasing. Maybe i can fix it here. We go let me try this. This did not better. What the fuck is up. Everybody do this show. That's my happy place. That's my comfort zone. I wanna feel like i'm on a stage. "It was our head coach and it was aaron roderick. Who was who was his position coach and really should be credited more than anyone for zacks development But i really feel like you know once once that got comfortable within the offense the more we trusted him to go out there and play Carefree once once we really And we certainly worked to develop an offense that would that would fit him. But i think he's a guy that does care about the team you'd love to throw the football every play but he wants to win and so i think as he grew and developed as a player. We trusted him more and more and this this past year in particular. There weren't very many times while we were saying Be careful there. Were very very few times that we were saying. I remember. this was more or less just calling the way then. A zach go do your thing. And we trusted him that that when we when we didn't have the best the best play call that he could find a way to run around and still make something out of it. You know coaching thinking about that. Let's let's fast forward and let's just say that you are in. Nfl head coach. Went offense coordinator. And you have. Zack wilson and you have the opportunity to build an offense around him. What do you think the best offense is for him to play like what things need to be in that offense to maximize. Who will i think i can do it. All there's not. There's not anything in the game that he can't do he can make all the throws i know. That's a that's the thing that a lot of people say. But i think it's it's It's really not that true about that. Many guys he really can make all the throws He has tremendous timing and touch on the deep ball And so i think throwing the football down. The field is something that made a made a huge impact on our team and on on him. is his progress this year. And so i think i would. I would start with that. Willingness to throw the ball down the field With the play action game and be willing to to to throw it deep several times game you know not just not just say we're gonna take a shot every now and then but really make a commitment to throw the ball down the field because he has the ability to make you pay..

"The the way that game translates to not only football but playing quarterback and when you hear about zach wilson's ability to make these extraordinary plays basketball certainly plays a part but i also think the thing that continues to come up when when we talk about. Zack wilson is the confidence and the competitiveness the swagger confidence daddy brings to the position. I believe is infectious. His teammates feed off. That is one of the reasons why he is one of the best quarterbacks in the draft confidence borderline on arrogance. I actually am here for it. I i liked that at that position. I don't wanna timid quarterback. I want somebody. That's that's That's very confident and sure of himself. and i think that's a trait that he possesses Something i think you're gonna see as a theme as we go through all these interviews including this next one here we're going to stay on the high school level. We've talked to his high school football coach. Here's the opportunity. We had to sit down with dan. Lunt wilson's high school basketball coach. Here's what he had to say. I guess my first question is before we get into when you first met. Zack wilson. Let's start with the basics here. How good of a basketball player was zach. Zach was very good basketball. He's an exceptional athlete..
