"It's a no hitter that wasn't as Madison Bumgarner held the Braves hitless in the Diamondbacks seven nothing victory in game two of the twin bill it's the first no hitter in the seventh inning doubleheader game but it won't count as MLB doesn't recognize any page with fewer than twenty seven outs even Bumgarner isn't sure it should count as a no no the only race batter who reached base on him came on shortstop Nick Ahmed throwing error in the second inning Ellen I manage just one hit in the fourteen inning double header I Freddie Freeman single of Zac Gallen in game one I'm the ferry

"The masters PGA U. S. open and eight in Buhari's themselves even really good golfers they get stuck in one of those sand traps which you know gosh take me like four days just to dig out of one of those suckers but I always enjoy watching watching play over the pond I only like the British open as well I guess now they call it the battle called the British open but none the less I always like that one because you can get up to like five o'clock in the morning and they're starting to play the key part of the final round no no doubt I enjoy that as well lots going on of course in the world of sports and lots of things going on outside the world sports we're gonna stick to sports as we close out the week here cash Major League Baseball I'm just I'm just beside myself that they can't get this thing right but why I expect Manafort to step in some of the teams and the because I know you do the writing there for gaming today that you were prognosticating to be contenders and a hundred and sixty two game season or those still some of the teams that will be say if it's a sixteen game season or these are they still gonna be teams that you have there or were those teams that you had maybe more complete teams to where you know the depth and you know the long season that that that's why they were up there are you know as far as being potential favorites to win their division to make the playoffs are there some that maybe you know a short season it's going to help out you know maybe teams that wouldn't have an opportunity to make the post season maybe they can make a sprint and and and get the the the post season baseball in that you know through a long season they probably would have had that shot because their arms probably would have been taxed as far as the starting pitchers well to be honest I really can't comment on that because I don't know what the schedule is going to be like once we know who's really playing home and now they're going to do it now we do know that basically they've agreed that it's going to be three ten team division east east central central west went what the aha how many users are going to be an hour they're going to play those games will be played at neutral sites will they be played at home and roll which seems to be the more likely scenario everything you know being a being the same I can say that for example a team like the Yankees he's very much helped now they were clearly favored to win the American League in right up there with the Dodgers to win it all but remember they were going to start the season without Aaron judge and without James Paxton both of whom are likely to be ready once the season gets underway assuming it's on the way let's say mid to late July so there's going to be a team that's going to be helped they're going to be other teams also that might have some players who wouldn't want to miss brown for the first half of the season now able to play not certain about that but I think the more important thing is let's see how the schedule of breaks out because you know we don't know how many games are going to be and how they're going to play you know like the talk was that they were just going to play the games within your ten team division so if you play what you have to play the energy to in order to be fair you have to play eighteen thirty six seventy two or ninety so that he would play each of the other nine times into each of the other nineteen either two four six or eight so then you would have let's say if you play them eight times which would be I think what a ninety game schedule that you have and we would have a perfect and for on the road I think this is the way it would work out let it and then again would it be true home field or would be neutral site with home field rules they're talking about double headers and hopefully they don't take the minor league approach to double letters where you play two seven inning games instead of two nine inning games so there's so much to be determined the strong teams are still going to be strong but again in a seventy game season or an eighty game season that's a lot different than a hundred and forty to one hundred and sixty two game schedule and I think they should mention as a number of times go back and take a look at the Washington nationals last year I think they were something like nineteen thirty one after fifty games and they ended up winning the World Series so anything you know it is bill shorten schedule random the results can be which means that it may be possible to find some bargains in the betting markets the proposal that I heard I think today as well is that they're going to have eight teams in each league make the playoffs instead of the five teams that you had in the past you know the three division winners in the two wild card so eight out of why is it eight and B. eight out of each week or made out of these divisions are quite sure how they were going to do it I may need to check on that but nonetheless want until we know how it's going to play out it's really hard to zero in on any team that you're looking to back it's gonna be interesting to see how they come up with enough games to make it more than just a small sample size some of the teams that you know if you're looking at a sixty to seventy game schedule somewhere in that vicinity I mean I I travel back and forth to the Phoenix all the time and one of the teams that I hear a lot about of course of the Arizona Diamondbacks and lot of people gotta remember Madison Bumgarner is there now with Robbie ray that's a pretty good one to ten Mike Leake is in their Zac Gallen Meryl Kelly so it's a pretty good staff some youth there but bringing over Bumgarner that's huge in the line ups pretty good as well with you know Calhoun Peralta Jake lamb they they've got some players there I like this Arizona team they certainly would do and I have a look at lately but I would think that they would be the second favorite behind the Dodgers high into the net it it well it it would if it were a five team nationally west that would be I think they would still probably be you probably have Houston which would be if you have the email with the mentality that Houston out there right up there with the Dodgers maybe a little bit back now of course we all know about the cheating scandal but I felt that the more important thing about the show there's no more Gerrit Cole yes that's a good call and of course the Yankees beneficiaries there Dodgers still team to beat in the National League when you look at it add the season gone down the way it was supposed to with Peter St Muncie Turner Bellinger Seager I mean what a ridiculous line okay happen worse yeah no doubt that's right that's coming over that is huge as well and then Buehler Kershaw my aid areas.

"Arizona Diamondbacks Torey Lovullo I'm sure we'll find him momentarily so where did you get into this weekend we want talk about right now who's coming to our buffalo toward stop is everyone R. S. V. P. that event whatever you want to hit I would love to hear from you right now one eight zero zero six three six eight six eight six you have the number use it other topics that I want to get to that I haven't yet there is nothing more tired than Tom Brady rumors actuality got back there is one thing more tired than Tom Brady rumors Julian Edelman photo shops and T. shirts about Tom Brady rumors I've done my best to stay away from that but I may get to it before the end of the third hour wow that's the universal sounder for Adam hawk in the studio in case you listing out watching my D. for three tweets or resist file being considered a flagrant one is why lebron is still this good at thirty five interesting logic but natural Iran Trevor all Reza got a flagrant one they call me the vagrant one regards irate crag as promised we talk to baseball we're joined by the manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks incredibly he is entering his fourth season already with Arizona they're coming off a season where they won eighty five games they were second in the NL west they take on San Francisco today at twelve ten Pacific so a little over an hour from right now Torey Lovullo is my guest Tory it's so good have you back how are you I'm doing good roaming always a pleasure how are you doing doing great sorry it's so good to hear your voice so about a week into cactus league games forgets cap I gotta ask what was your off season like did you get to unplug did you relax a little bit what did you do yeah I mean that's that's always what we are searching for the season does get long grinding so it's just about the family the friends maybe a couple trips here and there to decompress so I think once you once you start hitting that that that Christmas time you start to really get excited about what's going to happen over the course of the next several weeks as you as you form your team so the new year downhill even though it's a longer runway you know that spring training's upon yet but it was good off season for me where I I recharge batteries operator all good here it's hard to tell my guest now from the outside it sure seems like you had a team that finished second in the NL west and then made a number of moves get even better this season I know it's really really early but he's starting to get a sense as to the identity of this group yeah that's a really good question because we still got to find this in chemistry we just gotta find where where things happened the right way and and and plug into this culture day by day and we have a really strong group where this culture is already deeply rooted inside of this club house and now it's about passing along to some of the newcomers but we did winning five games last year and I think we got a lot of people by surprise it but ourselves we knew that we were very capable we played together as he looks one of my demands I believe in creating a family atmosphere making sure these guys pull for one another on the good and the bad days that's where you really find the true test character and that's happening day by day right now and we made some incredible dish since our front office is off the charts they can it's better every step of the way we know we have a good ball club you don't play the game on a piece of paper we gotta go out get execute we're doing the heavy lifting part of of getting these concepts to these guys right now through the spring and that's what matters most we want to make sure that when the season starts we're ready to roll so I love ello is joining us a Tory Zac Gallen pitch yesterday he's only twenty four is coming off a season we made fifteen starts he had an ERA of two eight one what did you make of what you saw from him after he came over the trade with Miami and how bright is his future yeah it's it's limitless and I'm super excited that that we're able to get get him into this organization you know he's a great student of the game you want to learn and get better and that's always a good starting point for me he's he's engaged with us coaches he's trusting of the information is getting in that he goes out there applies at the stuff that he has is unbelievable it's it's it's electric stuff it just explodes out of hand to take off in different areas in different ways it he knows that tacular so though the outings that we saw last year although at times it could have been a little inconsistent we knew from a young pitcher standpoint was exactly where he wanted to be with doctor where we thought he should be in a good improvement we want to see what he can do the sky's the limit for him we feel like tensely the guy the call went to site young with twenty games that's type of stuff yet but that's on us to make sure that we get that across to him the teacher right away he's been very receptive to that well as coaching seven organization you guys always had always had a great reputation for getting the most you possibly can have a picture now as long as we were talking about bright futures could tell my tale is coming off a season we had three twenty nine of thirty two home runs at ninety two runs batted in he was fourth in the MVP voting he's not yet necessarily a household name around the country not yet but for people who are not familiar with him what are they missing out on him yeah well you know here in the valley he has certainly made a name for himself and he's got a lot of support here you're right I think it's on a national level he's just rising rising up to to match some of those players that that are very well known throughout the entire country such as Mookie Betts and and Cody Ballenger and Mike trout but for me he is a very dynamic athlete he somebody could do so many you can do everything very very well he can still bass help you win a game you can make a great play out the password again but the thing that really elevated last year was with the power and the head ability he's always had good bat to ball skills but he figured out some concepts with our hitting coach the fundamental really got solidified for both sides of the plate he had a tremendous year from a power standpoint he's a great teammate in the good he's a good boy he's a great kid and he's he's got a great future ahead of him he trust what's going on around here and I feel like we're gonna build around him and your build around guys like that gets very powerful sockets or the fellow Natori when it moves you talking about what a great off season the front office had one of the moves with the addition of Madison Bumgardner what's it been like having him part of the team so far you know it's funny just walked by my office right now is I was talking to you and they gave me away with a big smile he's just such a such a great guy with a huge presence so he walks around you don't worry that it's out of the clubhouse he takes about you you've got you've got to take notice as to what he's get ready to do and how he's going to attack you he's got three World Series ring so he knows how to win Sherri that knowledge day by day with our guys that have been here in a culture that I said is deeply rooted in any teaching the younger guys what it takes to kind of fit into that culture so we're super excited to have him were that the the guy Madison Bumgarner because you can help take is that next level he's entered that number one spot everybody's gonna fall behind it but he still have a lot of life in his body go out there compete with baseball games that's first and foremost reason why he was brought in here we love that he's been what he's been shown as early in camp yes first outing last five days ago four days ago and it was really good stuff for a first outing so we're super excited about where he's at right now we don't reset day's gonna take that amount of special things can happen so you know he's going to compete you know he's gonna compete on and off the field allegedly motion reaction heard the story about Madison allegedly participating in rodeo competitions under an alias yeah well it was an alleged we know that it was it was definitely him as you know we've I've had ongoing conversations with him throughout the entire time that bill him as the only times all baby change the the course of that conversation and directed into your preserving is good health and making sure that he he takes care of himself because he's such an important piece of this this organization he's gonna help us get to where we want to get to and then he's got a lot of baseball games when it fell one of I want to be able to say at the end of the day when his career is all said and done that he maximized itself that he wanted many baseball games he possibly could anything be all favor he certainly on that road right now so he as along with everybody else I say health is the most important thing you have responsibilities to take care of yourself on and off the field so yeah I kind of shrugged off a laptop because I'm not gonna tell these guys will do in their own time I feel like it's a part of his life I want to just be careful with whatever you don't trace one quick thought about that one quick follow I'm not asking you to tell me what you said to him like John Smoltz would say to you golf pro long my career golf was so healthy for me mentally and physically I mean is that maybe what he can it's out of that is that he's call for why why do you want to do that well I'm not exactly sure why I think it's on the it's been a part of his blood it is blood for for his whole life and you know once again I'm not going to make these guys color inside the lines if they if they want to color outside of that they have them all all the right to do that and I believe that you know you you see different athletes come from different different cultures and and who's playing different sports and you know those movements in some of those things that they do you know whether whether their hips or their arms of their bodies look a certain way keeps a certain degree of strength or flexibility inside of the body so yeah I would I would I would just make sure they were adding caution to whatever he's going to be doing I don't want to do any any any cliff diving else put it put it in that form but I feel like with whatever he can do he can handle it but a lot of time talking to I love LA appreciate your thoughts on that story for a couple more moments you know it's been a really challenging offseason for baseball so what kind of thought to be had Tory she watched the Astros cheating scandal unfold we are you know I'm I'm just like everything else you know I I hated to see that I hate I felt so terrible for the organization's I've that that lost your managers or replaced their managers and you know just unfortunately archive for baseball you hate to see something like that happen it you know the game over covered but we have responsibilities as as teams and organizations and in my case manager to to preserve the integrity of this game and that's what my intentions are so like I said I mean it was unfortunate I love a level playing field as far as I want to go with what what you know what type of cheating was was was supposedly happening but at the end of the day you know we're all human beings and when somebody makes a bad decision or organization makes a bad decision appeal form and I feel for the guys a loss of jobs try the bell my guest that's what I wanna ask about your wife Kristin really quickly because she's from buffalo and I'm actually and I know you go way back with the show we haven't done a tour stop in about a decade and a half from a brilliant least one back in it's going to be in buffalo on April eleventh at Shea's buffalo theatre I love the city but I've not been there in a minute or so do you get back with Kristin very often oh my god I appreciate giver to prosecute such a proud buffalo NY and my entire family a lot of my down as borders about was like very strong ties to buffalo absolutely we were back a couple of times this past year my brother in law and sister in law just had a newborn so we went to see him and his family and my mother in law so very strong ties we are there a couple times every offseason to reconnect with family so I appreciate it appreciate given to process that the city proposal yes there is a I mean I see how many how much how much credit I gave the city when I brought this thing back Tory for the first time in a decade and a half we could have gone anywhere that's the city that we chose I love buffalo I knew it was time he is the manager of the D. backs he's entering his fourth season they're they're coming off an eighty five win season Arizona is at San Francisco today less than an hour out Tory thanks for making time it's always great to have you on the show and I appreciate the relationship after all this time likewise Robbie I'll talk to him about like a toy thank you toy Lovell all jungle favorite I love it I love talking to Tory when he played and I love talking to his manager all right Dan we are open phones the rest of the way I.

"Imagine instead your gently floating through the cosmos on a soft comfy recliner next time relax with the real ginger taste of Canada dry Danny Sullivan KTAR news with sunny skies today it's going to be breezy look for a high of sixty eight clear tonight with a low forty three sunny and sixty nine for tomorrow mid seventies on Thursday back into the eighties for the weekend yeah your weather's brought to you by Howard air weather replace repair call Howard air Paul can be seen out KTA are sports desk good morning Sir used to be a guy by the name of Ricky Henderson right knee always because yeah he was one of the originators of the innovators of third person you know Ricky B. and Ricky so last night you had Ricky Rubio Ricky B. and Ricky yet twenty two eleven assists you had seven steals in the sun's out a big win win against the reeling jazz in Salt Lake City one thirty one one eleven where Ricky Rubio spent many years in as many friends so very meaningful game for him as the book also I twenty four and ten assists deandre Ayton sixteen for the Suns again so Rudy go bare self arguably the sun's best performance of the season definitely top three they looked really sharp and really effective a twenty point win there how about the D. backs it in windows matter it's spring training they lose eleven nine to the giants Zac Gallen gave him a very clean first start through the first two innings and didn't allow a hit didn't walk a batter and one strikeout I mean you look at the town of Izak Allen in a loop weaver guess what they might actually be more effective pitchers this year the Madison Bumgarner will seek and as for bad bad bomb Torey Lovullo says.

"Dog on the rodeo but now he's got confidence I mean there's some stories I do not owe anything with him hunting bear hunting and in the tie yeah situations instead it would blow you away but he probably would want me about a place for mom or mom or you know you just you go you're kidding me his first budget this morning number for mac good to hear the skippers boys let's talk more about Mason Saunders with demands that the article up of course in your bag really we talked to all season long that a great job with the piece check it out of the athletic he joins courtesy of the my gas line all right Mason Saunders tell us the story out of this happen I mean you know I can't really tell you how we found out about it one once we found out he was competing in these things and then he actually won some money then it wasn't too hard to to find that the pictures in the documentation that's really the most amazing thing about this story is it's not like everyone you know who's going to be is rodeo events is oblivious to who he is I mean it's it's a very much the tight knit community and and you know they knew what it would mean if if he got his name out there and and you know he loves to do this so they all kept on this life form and it's kind of amazing that it was under wraps for as long as it was but but yeah you know bush makes a great point and it tells you just how confident medicine there this is not risky at all because he's a couple weeks away from signing an eighty five million dollar contract and he's out there you know doing team roping in Wickenburg so and if you ever watch a video I mean this to do to clarify any misconceptions he's not out there doing it eight seconds into writing on the horns here is not bucking Broncos writing goals you know this is I I would wager each and he's been doing this since he was fourteen fifteen years old he's probably less at risk of getting hurt on the horse then he is driving to the arena so clearly he feels that way if he was doing it you know just a few weeks before signing of the contracts so but yep Mason Saunders well yeah I hate to blow his cover but you know this job is the job nine eight negative like it blew it and you know whatever he's doing with the rope and it's that is dangerous is dirt biking and the amazing thing is he's did it you did it after a dirt bike he did it right before he signed the contract and all that so what was his reaction I know you gave us the boy you blew my alias but after you get your chat a little bit what was his reaction to you confronting him on this and I I have to assume bags that this is a violation of the of the of the CBA that he signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks the one that's universally site with all players in the and the owners so why is he gonna have to stop doing this now I mean I don't know in in in the sort of the uniformed contract whether it be spell out rodeo events I mean I I know they spell out some things like skydiving but you know this may be something that they have to kind of memorializing the contract or or or you know damn back would have to say Hey this falls in line with with this clause in this this article of your of your uniform standard contracts so again that's between him and and the team you know obviously if it is something that's prohibited them there no matter how safe you feel doing it you know there's no justification for being in violation of your of your contract but you know if you've ever watched the team roping it's you know again it's it's not it's not something that interests are pretty rare of the people who know what they're doing in the sport so but when we did when we did go up to only confronted myself and Zach you know we we showed him the picture and I started off by saying something to the effect of so you know I know you know a lot about calf roping so can you tell me about this up and coming capital breaker about need Mason Saunders yeah pretty good how you doing knowing the first thing he said was in you blow my cover or you guys can't write this or get mad again the first thing he said was well it's not calf roping it's team roping calf roping is a whole different thing I mean how much he loves this sport that's how much he cares about it that's how you know how much it means to home policy is with that the first thing he said to me was to correct me that it's not calf roping team roping so you know I thought that was pretty funny that is funny we're talking to Andrew Bagley this it's a great piece of the athletic right now Mason Saunders check it out by the way you've you've re tweeted this act you can't said my case and of course our GM just spoke with the media wouldn't know any details of a bomb runners contract says but he did say all his players are adults in their lives on the field and he doesn't tell them what they can and can't do so it it sounds I just based on that response that he would continue to learn to do this well I mean if I'm speculating I I would imagine that they're going to talk to them they're gonna say look you know we need you to be careful obviously we need you to exercise common sense we would probably prefer that you not do this and you know I I don't think this is something that he put in his contract it sounds like it's something that that impacts what super aware of and I you know we don't know for certain if he has been doing it since you know the last demonstrated one that we had in in December we do know he obviously didn't last spring when you still under contract with the giants and and and like coach was just telling you there's there's a lot of other things are prime mortgage or cities doing he's back in North Carolina I I have heard some of this sort of apocryphal tales of of of his bear hunting sometimes sometimes kicking a bear when the pair went after some talk and things like that but again that's under this but yeah I mean because Paul Bunyan you know it's he's he's just the the legend grows right at least it's Jackie moon and he's wrestling bears order that as we would have it the giants are playing the Arizona Diamondbacks two day medicine is not pitching Zac Gallen is fishing with the Arizona Diamondbacks you you've obviously interacted with Madison slash Mason yourself your brother is he is even at Scottsdale stadium today did you know that calm there is that any interaction with mad bomber his former teammates today since they are going to play a game in about twenty minutes no no I I I heard he has come by and check out the new facility you know yes exchange tax and and and and had some interactions with his former teammates but no heater life opened yesterday R. like BPA should say then starting pitchers don't don't go to road spring training games or even the starting position players don't go to the road road a spring training game so when when they're not involved in it so so we know he's not here today he wouldn't really have any cause to be I can tell you though I saw I saw his wife Allie in in her whole family the work at the ballpark at Salt River fields yesterday the Diamondbacks are playing their first home exhibition games and that they were going to a team store they were loading up they were loading up with a lot of merchandise and stocking Diamondbacks Dustin and I said alley how your shopping going she said well they don't take trade ins so obviously he wouldn't expect them to but you know and and that's not to minimize I'm sure that the giants are always going to be from center for them whatever medicines career is over I believe that his best moments of his career going to be what we've already seen with him as part of this three World Series teams and and I'm sure when they have the reunions when he comes back it's all going to be super bonded super they'll be super excited to be a part of that but you know for now he's Hey this is a mercenary sported time's your creation and then he's abandoned back and they're all going to be outside in the internet access it on a read internationally soon as an extra bag to make sure your readers great stuff and the athletic as well spring training early impressions we're we're yeah hard to say just because we only had a couple games and there's seventy two players in camp so you know the stuff going on a multiple fields can't really see anyone into much depth or detail hi Julie Bartlett impressive to me who else Austin Slater looks impressive to use really run the bases while very interesting how they're now they're running Campo with your drills being shorter but more challenging I and I I don't know if all of these ways of trying to be more efficient and and and and develop skills all these different things are doing there we're not accustomed to it Kapler I'm not sure how many more wins one of the more runs runs prevented that's gonna sort of equate to but it's all interesting in its end and none of it really seems like well that's a bad idea I mean it all makes sense of the transistor to but it's also going to come down to talent and they are and how this roster whose team comes together and we kind of know what the projections say it's it's gonna it's gonna be a rebuilding year though but in terms of I think what you look for in spring training is what's the mood like what the effort like this so far it's been pretty good if you're smiling he's gonna make his giants debut in a couple of minutes you're just looking at the Diamondbacks lineup trayce Thompson is in the brother of clay and Stephen Vogt who was such a tremendous backup catcher last year for the giants has now moved on to Arizona with Madison which means you know the injury to Garcia's opened up the backup catching spot why'd you mention Joey Barton that opposite field home run he hit on Saturday was really impressive what would a check I I assume he's going to begin the year what maybe it maybe trip away what what would it take for him to get brought up because you've got buster and you've got belt blocking him how many days a week what do you have to play at this level should justify him not catching every day at triple a with a with a bring them up if they could get him into the lineup you know four out of seven bags what would it take to get us back in the lineup well I think that's a sort of a moving target right now but you know it's something that they're thinking about it right now the only way the part would open with the team as a foster were to get hurt and have to start the year on the DL or something and and right now you know obviously there's there's nothing there's nothing that would suggest that investors looks looks a pretty healthy circuit so you know I I it's a good question helping indoctrinate Joe how to introduce them how they want to split up the playing time you know those are all good questions and we know that how it works when buster came up with that Benji Molina when he was still here they had a little overlap time but it wasn't too long really and then they traded Benji to the Texas Rangers so I don't think you're gonna see that kind of analog I mean busters not gonna get traded anywhere I don't think so you know where they they put both of them the batter in.
