"Jared Schuster, who was the number one pick in 2020, seems to be evolving as the FrontRunner to be the number 5 starter for that rotation. And it shortstop. They have not come out and said for sure that von Grissom is the shortstop. I talked to him yesterday. I talked to Ron Washington and his coach and von christen is a great, he's a great interview, he's fun to talk to. He's tons of talent. He's going to have a long career in the big leagues, wash, talked about his physical skills. Emma, I don't know if he's necessarily going to be the guy all year. Because I've heard during the off season, they're poking around in short stuff. That is a big question, that is a big question for a team with aspirations of winning the World Series to have some doubt about who your shortstop is going to be. No doubt, of the middle defense is going to be at a premium now with the shift being gone. So that is absolutely something to watch. Here's what I know. Here's what I know about Alex anthopoulos. He effectively won the World Series in 2021 with his deadline moves. I saw him do exemplary things last year at the trade deadline too. If it's clear that the braves don't have a player that can man that position properly. He'll make a decision. And maybe even sooner or later, I'm look, they've always trusted their process and trusted their young players. But that gentle manager is a guy I have implicit trust in adding a shortstop. If they feel that without one, they can't join the World Series. Right, who's your Cinderella team in keeping with the NCAA theme in Major League Baseball in 2023? The Tampa Bay Rays, the Tampa Bay Rays are going to go into the season with a payroll of something like $70 million. And they're a Cinderella, a team that could go say even all the way to the final four because they're going to out pitch everybody. Buster, this is astonishing to me. So over the last 5 years, there are only three teams in baseball that have allowed fewer than four runs a game. The Dodgers, the Astros, their run prevention, is absolutely absurd and this year I think it's going to be as good if not better than it's ever been. Shane mcclanahan is a legit one. Take it from me as a Phillies fan that Zac eflin for them is going to be great. Glasgow and boss are going to make a big impact for them during the season. So long as they can, you know, get back up to help, of course. The bullpens ridiculous, the Fairbanks and Jason Adams at the back end of that thing to anchor it. And don't be at all surprised if Wanda Franco has like a 6 or 7 war season. Like that guy has all of the ingredients to be absolutely great. So if I'm looking at teams sort of on the bottom of the barrel in terms of payroll, like who might approach a hundred wins of everything goes right, who might end up making it to the American League or nationally championship series of a bunch of things goes right. It would not surprise me at all if the rays do that. Right now they're kind of people are sleeping on them behind the Yankees and the Blue Jays. I think this roster is great and this has the best chance to be the one of the best pitching staffs that they've ever had. Yeah, it made me sick to my stomach in the opening of the show. I mentioned how high you were on Zac eflin is a value signing in free agent and how you write you were. That hurt to make that acknowledgment. If you're diaper dandy, Corbin Carroll buster, the 22 year old left Fielder. Friend of the pod friend of the show, this guy's got a 9 figure extension of a 38 days of major league service time, which is completely unprecedented, obviously. His profile is one that you can absolutely fall in love with. He put a 174 games of professional baseball across 6 level that includes his brief stint in the big leagues last year. A 174 games. So slightly more than one full season. Buster, it's a 110 walks, 92 extra base hits and 54 steals. That is a ridiculous profile of a player with on a very small bit of professional experience. He is the player, I think, probably best suited to thrive amongst these rule changes because that cat says, he's the fastest player in baseball. And he's a left handed hitter that doesn't sell out for launch angle. So you get a 150 games out of him. That's a 150 plus hits too. There are going to be very few games this year in which the Diamondbacks win that he does not contribute in some way. I am all in on this kid. So every time I see braves manager, Brian said, I always tease him by asking for a comp. He hates the cops. Hey, who does Paul McKinney's remind you of, you know? And so we laugh about it. I think the closest comp for Corbyn Carol based on what I saw was ichiro. In terms of the range of skill, the ability to put the ball in play, the speed, the whole thing, the extra bases. Now, each wrote it and hit, you know, he wasn't always a guy who was going to hit for a ton of extra base hits. Corbin Carol might turn out to be a guy who was going to have, you know, more thump more power, more sluggy percentage than each row did. Speaking of contracts, I wanted to get your perspective on that on the deal that kyber Ruiz signed with the Washington Nationals the other day. 8 years, 15 million dollars.

And then lastly, who were the first pitcher and hitter respectively to play or have played for both of these franchises. So we will answer that at the end of the episode along with the past blast. And we have a little mea culpa here. I guess is it a Nostra culpa? I don't know what's a culpa with two people doing the culpa ink, but a few listeners have pointed out that our guests on the last episode on the pirates preview who had also joined us for two previous pirates previews has been filing stories in the midst of a work stoppage at the Pittsburgh post gazette. We were not aware of that situation at the paper. And if we had been, we would have talked to someone else for that segment. So when a couple of listeners let us know about this after the episode was posted, we asked our guest for an explanation and he shared some details about his personal situation and family life and the way the strike started that led him and some others to act as they did. But as we try to convey when we talk about baseball, we believe labor solidarity to be extremely important. On what probably a tough time to schedule while you're still getting in the swing of things again. Yeah, thanks for having me. Appreciate you guys working around my schedule, the race schedule, my new daughter schedule and all that. So it's great to be back. Well, having been a father of a newborn daughter, not too long ago. I know that it was probably tough for you to keep track of what was going on in spring training. So I'm sure you've gotten up to speed quickly. So we will talk, I guess, about the race who unlike you have not had a lot of new additions to their family. How's that for a segue? Nice, fantastic. I think they really had just a one free agent signing, maybe this winter, and when you did your preview of the off season, one of your big 5 questions was is there a big splash in store? And I guess the answer in retrospect was not really except by ray standards because Zac eflin actually the biggest free agent contract that the race have ever given out, right? Inflation on adjusted, which is pretty surprising, probably, but it is the raise after all. So why don't we start there? What convinced the raise to make what is for them, I suppose a sizable free agent investment in Flint. Yeah, I think there's a lot of things. And believe me, this was certainly not the big splash that I had in mind when I was writing that preview either, but the largest contract a free agent contract in franchise history at three years and 40 million. They like a lot of things at Evelyn does. They like the fact that he throws strikes. They like the fact that he reduced or limited hard contact last season. It doesn't walk a lot of guys. That's a pretty good extension if you look at some of the more advanced metrics and I think they like the person a lot too, which is something that for a team that's analytically minded and statistically inclined as the razor. That's something that they definitely consider a lot is that the person that he is and I've heard nothing but rave reviews in the last day and a half back in camp about the guy that Zac eflin is, but he's essentially filling the spot that was held last season by Corey Kluber. And you look at what Kluber did and overall it wasn't. You know, a tremendous result, CRA wasn't anything special or anything like that, but he threw strikes. He was pretty consistently going to work 5 or 6 innings. At night, set up the bullpen well and then just be a good kind of veteran type example for the rest of the rotation because it's a group of pretty young starters, otherwise. So I think they like all of that with effluent and then the fact that for him it's relatively locally grew up in the Orlando area families very important to him. He wanted to be relatively close to home. So I think they're pretty optimistic that getting that guy basically the guy that he was in front of a better defense and a more pitcher friendly home ballpark with his strike throwing is going to work out pretty well and we'll see what else they have in store as far as what they tweak with them is the race tend to do once he gets in the lab with Kyle Snyder. I would suspect that we'll probably see him take a step forward. So they have him as an addition, but as a temporary loss, another good segue could say, they will, once again, at least for the immediate term, be without Tyler glasnow, who I think everyone was very excited to see come back and then has suffered a strained oblique. So what is the latest timeline for glass now? And I know that your exposure to what he was doing early in campus probably limited, but what is your sense of how he was looking before he went down with the oblique? Yeah, he looked like Tyler glass now from everything I understand. And I think the thing that really stood out and that did enhance that excitement that you were talking about is how good he looked when he came back late last season and that postseason start. I mean, he looked like a complete monster like the guy that you've gotten used to seeing when he was healthy before the fastball was the upper 90s, the curveball was nasty that slider he added in 2021 with working for him. He was throwing strikes. So that is a big loss, but he's probably looking at probably mid to late April, tend to kind of take the under on injury comeback, so probably late April would be my guess at this point. And the way that they're kind of optimistically looking at it is that coming back from Tommy John didn't pitch a lot of innings last season. You're going to have to limit his workload regardless. So this is kind of a way to do so. Before you have to worry about taking about a games early that you're already cutting into the part of the season, so now rather than having to skip starts or whatever it may be, you can kind of once he is back and healthy kind of let him loose and I think that is a pretty exciting idea for the raise and they're a little bit more comfortable with it this season and able to handle it because they do have some pretty intriguing rotation depth behind him, not just obviously shame to clean a hand drew Rasmus and Jeffrey springs and Zac eflin, but you could see Yanni Torino's who himself came back last season from a number of arm injuries. Luis patino, who it seems like is almost a forgotten guy who is a top prospect, not very long ago at all. Josh Fleming, who himself was pretty highly regarded as well. So they have the depth to handle it, but obviously it's an entirely different team and rotation with thyroid glass now back in healthy.

This was a shocker because I disagree out of all. The amazing films documentaries TV series. That were released this year for net flicks. I did not expect to see murder mystery as the number one spot and I mean. Apparently this comedy was watched by over thirty million accounts in the first three days of its release according to the Hollywood reporter and it was net flicks biggest opening weekend ever and also want a twenty nineteen people's choice award so That again the whole it's all shocking. I is it could tie literally like don't have any words for this because I almost disagree I they watch the film or at least I tried to watch murder mystery. And I don't even think I got through the whole film because I got bored. And that says a lot because I love Jennifer for Aniston and Adam Sandler them to are probably my one of my most favorite actors and their dynamic to gather is impeccable. My Love them together and movies however I wasn't a fan of murder mystery. I duNNo. I wasn't a fan of the story. Maybe we have to go back and rewatch it could have been. I wasn't in the right atmosphere to watch a movie so I don't know but I definitely was not expecting murder. Mystery to take the cake for the number one spot as Successful release for Netflix
