Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Janissary Music

"I'm Naomi Moon Welcome to classics for. Kids. Let's start this show off with a bang. You. Know how? When a certain kind of music catches on whether it's rap or jazz or Latino suddenly you hear it all over well, all over Europe in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries you would have heard Turkish flavored music like this marked by Ludwik von Beethoven. A very reasonable question would be if Beethoven was German, what was he doing writing Turkish music? The Sultan who ruled Turkey used to have a very select group of guards called Jan Aseries, actually, jams areas, what the Turkish term for new army sounded like to European ears like most armies. The Janice series had a band and since this was a Turkish army, the Janice every band used Turkish instruments like bass drums, triangles, and cymbals when the Sultan of Turkey since January, bands to Europe people went nuts over the exotic sound of those instruments hey, couldn't get enough of Turkish. Music. European composers knowing what their audiences wanted to hear started writing. Turkish. Sounding pieces and even set some of those pieces in Turkey This is the overture to Mozart's opera the abduction from the Seraglio. Seraglio. Was the Turkish Sultan's palace a palace which he kept US sizable Harem of wives. Plural. Very poor. Mozart wasn't the only composer to set an opera in Turkey German composer. Carl Maria. Von Vaber did to and he even gave his opera a Turkish name. Abu Hassan. And Turkish sounds crept into orchestra music too. For Instance Haydn's symphony number one. Kendrick. Since people associated the sound of drums, triangles and cymbals with Turkish army bands that Haydn symphony came to be known as the Military Symphony. The best symbols in the world are still made by the same family that made them in Haydn's day the Zil jains, the name zillion is Turkish for symbol maker a Turkish Sultan gave it to the first symbol maker in the family almost four centuries ago today zillions live in Massachusetts where they make the symbols you here in rock bands and symphony orchestras. That's from Wellington's victory by Beethoven. After. The FAD for January music died down the cymbals bass drums and triangles didn't go back to Turkey those instruments. Oh, their place in today's orchestras and bands to the eighteenth century European craze for Turkish music of all the composer's latched onto the sound of the January band I think Beethoven did it best? My favorite bit of January music is tucked into the middle of the last movement of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. That Sound is a controversy soon, the lowest pitched woodwind instrument there is it's acting almost like a bass drum. Back when January music was popular, you could buy a piano equipped with a special. January pedal by thumping down on it, you could accompany yourself with your own personal triangle and drums percussion section. Unfortunately today, those pianos are only found in museums when both amodio Mozart composed his Turkish Rondo he managed to get the piano to imitate Janice drums even without a special pedal. That's Mozart's Turkish Rondo. Now that you know about the Turkish part to find out what a Rondo is, join me next time for classics for kids.

"Cardinals the as enter play tonight fifteen and twenty one six and a half games back in the American League West of the Astros. So actually the reds are playing back to back series against last place teams dueling last place teams reds. Giants relies plays teams in the past series reds in as last place teams tonight. I actually wanted to double check that as I say that I'm pretty sure the giants are in last place. I said that I should confirm. Yes. They are allies by a game back of the Colorado Rockies. It's Christian yelich that brewer slugger leads all of major league baseball with fifteen homers. All right. Let's take a look at the lineup tonight. What do you say, you're ready scorecards place? I send your keeping score at home. Vodka Suarez Winker tweet Dietrich send Zil Dietrich the D H tonight. Bottom. Third. Eglesias? Barnhart and firmer firmer playing second base. Tyler Malley starts for the reds the right hander. Mike fire starts for the as the right entered. No, Jose Peraza tonight. Jose Peraza had had best start hitting for for this team. But for himself and for his playing time if Kyle farmer, and it's part of the beauty of the acquisition of Kyle firmer anytime. You get somebody who can catch and play third and play second and play the outfield. He gives you buzzword now flexibility and versatility. He gives you the option to play. Somebody like Kyle farmer who has what four home runs in thirty three at bats this season. I believe if you're wondering Jose Peraza against right handers this year hitting just a buck eighty eight. Jose Peraza against left hitting just a buck seventy four. It has been a struggle. And I will clearly take responsibility for the jinx because I spent the offseason proclaiming I thought this was not to say it's not going to happen. But it's been a struggle to this point saying that I thought that Jose Peraza was going to be the a breakout season for him that he was he was capable capable of being a twenty twenty guy twenty homers, twenty stolen bases. I mean that isn't a stretch at fourteen homers last year. Murray has gone on record saying he thinks he could win a batting title someday. Now, he's clearly got deficiencies in his game and needs to walk more. It would certainly help from on. You just it's tough to sustain anything in on base percentage. If you're just not being able to work in some walks every now, and then and he's got what just a handful of walks in the season to this point. But Dietrich DA ching tonight that bat and the ordering Kyle firmer batting second. The polls of earth's magnetic field. Don't lineup perfectly with its polls of rotation.

"Hanging out in earth's orbit is no easy task you already know satellites and structures, like the international space station have to deal with things like space, debris and cosmic rays and dust and all sorts of stuff. But have you heard of the south Atlantic and nominally, it's an area of our planet. That has a big impact on the delicate electronics we send into space I'll get to that in a minute. But first, let's back up and talk about the radiation belts that actually protect our entire planet. The earth is surrounded by two Donut shaped masses of high energy. Particles called the van Allen belts. Those particles are leftovers of cosmic rays shooting in from outside. Our solar system that became trapped in the earth's magnetic field the exist in that belt configuration because the magnetic field follows a telltale pattern when you know, if you've ever seen iron filings sprinkled around a magnet, the high energy particles would be dangerous on their own. But when they're trapped in the van, Allen belts. They actually shield the earth from any other dangerous particles that might elbow their way in thanks for protecting us van Allen belts. Actually, don't be too grateful. Just yet the polls of earth's magnetic field. Don't lineup perfectly with its polls of rotation. They're actually tilted by eleven degrees. That means the van Allen belts are tilted to. And that means that the inner Donut shaped massive deadly high energy particles dips dangerously low to the earth surface as close as one hundred and twenty four miles or two hundred kilometers at some points over the south Atlantic and. Zil that dip which is called the south Atlantic anomaly is well below the path of a lot of satellites which are forced to pass through the belt and get pummeled by protons. And we're talking pummeled every square centimeter is hit three thousand times per second. That abuse can cause all sorts of problems from data glitches to electron damage. Engineers actually, tell their satellites to power down whenever they pass through the anomaly because they hope that will protect their data. Yeah. It's pretty intense. Anyway, the south Atlantic anomaly could be a symptom of the earth's magnetic fields changing, and you can read more about that on our full right up on this. But suffice it to say if you're heading into space anytime soon, you might wanna check your map to make sure you won't be passing through the south Landik anomaly, or you're gonna have a bad time

"There's discussion about the level of political rhetoric since the package bombs were sent to top Democrats and other critics of President Trump. We asked ABC news political analyst, Matthew Dowd. The arrest of an apparent Trump supporter in the attempted bombings can be compared to the Bernie Sanders supporter who opened fire on a Republican baseball game. Last year, Ernie Sanders, never celebrated somebody committing physical violence against a reporter. You know, just sort of feels like you do some. I gotta I gotta do, and you know what, though, you know, it might even be that thing where I mean, of course, I don't know because they never explained anything that's really going on for the better, but it might be something where he might feel like if he did something wrong, like if his little girls grow up to try to kill him, he would be like, Yep, you gotta equalize or something like that. Like he might be cool with that, which is the white kill Bill. The first seed. Oh, yeah, yeah. Kill Bill when it was it was named Vikas daughter, right? Yeah. Like some type of way about this AVI. Wait, that's great. Like, oh my God. Can we see kill Bill with like now a little black girl in? Yeah, kill and kill and go after Thurman. Absolutely. I've got to kill. Her name, Beatrice, whatever her name is on fire. I love it. The other. So there's two other. So that final sequence was really cool that the hurricane made it awesome. Like just like this nice, it was insane. Like it was scary like there's like these ways, the wind gusts and all the stuff they couldn't see. It was dope. The only two things I have questions about where one when that do like throws in the flash grenade and then the house blows up. How did that happen? Because Zil Dinnie like cut something wasn't that sugar. I thought he them before that. I thought he cut like always thought. Thing that what happened? I mean, didn't he thought I saw him like, what? What did you say it was? I didn't hear. I felt like I felt like when he first came, he cut on something like a gas to maybe I saw him turn something on and he started cutting, oh God. It was just like flour sugar. I was like, what is happening? I definitely member him doing that. But before he does it, I thought maybe not Cussing. Remember him turning something on right, and then grabbing a knife in, like, you know, oh, the gas, like I did that guy's incised deploy up does she was so graphic whatever his intense coupling out or something. I don't understand that was graphic for no reason. It was weird. I didn't get it. I wanted to take down of that guy to be a little bit better, but it was. I mean, browse kind of doing my man takes the Nassar that dude on the wall outside right before the Duke is blown up my God. Also, I love that dude. It was just like, he's like, he's like hunting than just keep seeing the picture of the wife. And then finally, he just like he's just like our had a look at one of these passes like four of them and then and then finally he's like, all right. Let me look at what immediately. The one that looks like ten. So just start stabbing like seven seventeen. Didn't he like. Man. And then the other thing that I have, I have to call this out. I've got to call it out at the Ed was Cheyrou when he tells them to sit down and their daring at the hurricane, no bre evacuated their tail. They evacuated the town, your houses right next to the ocean. The waves are literally coming up and slamming the window. You don't just sit there and watch you drive the fuck. I go back into that so much. Go back now, what is happening is each trying to kill showroom like. Also said at some point, like I got shot like he's just like the balloon right through, you're going to be fine. I wanted it to be like with the fuck hell. They'll be fine like they almost got tonight. I got a duct it a trunked and then shocked to the leg. 'cause you who are how about, I'm sorry, like or explain to me who the fuck he's explain who are they know. "At eighty seven well it's disease raw numbers and zil lebron's at thirty thousand even how long will he have to play to catch corinne all right so it looking back historically lebrun james i if he's stored 1800 points in a year i would say that he probably miss some games due to injury nineteen 100 over 2000 right that that's been kind of the norm here the last four years but conservatively let's just say that he scores eight hundred fifty points year for the next four years and that's not even really including what happened throughout the visit here if he does that he'll cared karim in about four and a half years though yes as 33 assuming a relatively clean bill of health even blamed sixty five games a year seventy games year he'll catch them well before he turns forty and i don't think lebron james is bailing out of asked the ball must be four eight forty right but at this point lebrun is not even the active alltime scoring leader is still behind dirk who i think is is putting on the back nine right so how long this whole broad james do you think he plays ten more years i don't think he goes the 43 but i can see of line to forty and i can see him amassing forty thousand total points it's weird to think about the fact that he's already brought in the league for fifteen years and that seven more years wouldn't even be a surprise at weird to think about that gets a long time you would in lebrun is never fancy themselves or identified himself as you score near you can do at all i mean there's no question about that michael jordan's a score kobe bryant as the score they could do other things but eat lebrun game is more like magic's but.

corinne lebrun dirk michael jordan kobe bryant karim lebron james four years fifteen years
