"Is Dr Yvonne Maldonado, chief of pediatric infectious disease at Stanford. Children's Health. She joins us now live on the KCBS Ring Central News Line, Doctor. Thank you for being here. Thank you so much. How to vaccines work in the general population. What percent of people need to be vaccinated? How effective doesn't have to be to stop the spread of a virus. Well, we're hoping to get adequate levels of herd immunity as you've heard that term before, and we think that should be on the order of 60% of people, but it doesn't happen overnight. And so we would hope, depending on the type of vaccine and how well and how safe it works in different populations to get as many people vaccinated as possible. The idea would be to start with the highest risk populations. And then work back as we have more doses of vaccine. What have we learned about covert 19 transmission in these last eight months or so, and has that shaped prevention measures? As the data has changed. Absolutely well, we know one big point of contention because of a lack of data. We're really whether Children were infected infectious and transmitted disease. And we found that yes, the answer is Yes to all three of those now whether they serve a primary sources of transmission is unclear at this point, but it doesn't seem to be the Children are the major sources of transmission, and that's important from vaccine policy. Because many many of our vaccines really start with Children. And so whether that will be the first target population or not, it is going to be decided. It does seem that The adult population, especially those in the front line. And people at higher risk would probably be best. Vaccinated first because it appears that they can be more at risk for transmission of disease. Well, taking that all into consideration the vaccine development is it targeting then an adult. I mean a vaccine for an adult. Is that different than a child? Or is it a matter of dosage? Well, there's a lot of issues around moving a vaccine from adults, Two Children and many most vaccines were actually tested first adult anyway, before they moved to Children, and I do think that In fact, there are doses being given now to Children as young as 16. I understand and the approval to 12 and what generally happens to you try to safety and effectiveness. In adults on DH. Then you try to move into younger and younger population, So I am confident that we'll start to see dose is being given to Children, older Children and hopefully we'll be able to Look at doses in younger and younger population. I recently got my flu shot, and I get one every year. But there's certain vaccines that it seems last a lifetime when looking at the Corona virus. What are you hoping for? Or aiming for? Well, of course we would love to see you know, one and done right. So you would be nice to have one or two doses in adults in the population and then see permanent immunity. That is very rare for most vaccines. I think measles is really the only vaccine. Now we know that is commonly used that we know that one and two doses in particular will will really keep you as a lifelong immunity Now it's very likely given the dynamics of the other human krone viruses that we will lose immunity over time. So the question is, how long will protection last? With these vaccines, and I would be hoping that it would be at least a couple years so we could see maybe annual or biannual re vaccinations. You are part of a panel of experts. So what is the process of reviewing the vaccines? It sounds like they get FDA approval. Then it comes to you. What are you looking for? What most of us are already working at the federal level, and some of us have looked at the international level around vaccine safety and effectiveness, and what we're going to be looking at, in particular, is safety. Let's remember. We're giving a product to stay healthy populations. So we want to make sure we don't hurt populations of that. The's are state vaccines, and if there are safety signals that we are able to understand, and which populations those might exist. Andi. We also want to look at how effective the vaccine will be, because we want to be able to track theater acting this overtime, and I wouldn't say that we should make the perfect the enemy of the good and that is of no vaccine is going to be perfect. So we're going to have to weigh the risks and benefits of giving a vaccine that may not be the best. We would love it to be. But it would be enough to get us to some level of population immunity overtime, and so that those are the kinds of things will probably be considering. All right. And very briefly. I'm going to ask you a question. I know you don't have the answer to, but it's the one that everyone wants to know. When are we getting a vaccine and available to everyone? Your best guess Well, I believe in. Ah, most of almost all of what Dr Fauci says. He's been somebody that I've known for many, many years, and I think he's correct in saying that. It will be likely that a vaccine will be out sometime in early 2021. But there won't be enough doses for everybody, mostly health care workers and first responders. But by the end of next year, maybe quarter three or so, so I think the fall There may be more widespread availability of vaccines, and it would be great to have that because of returned to school, So that is my best guess, but we don't really know. Dr. Yvonne Maldonado. Thank you so much for joining us. Thank you so much. And Dr Maldonado is chief of pediatric infectious disease at Stanford Children's Health case..

The Shady World Of Call Center Work

"Many of America's best known companies figured out a way to cut customer service costs. They've been doing this for years they classify customer service workers as contractors and have them work from home Amanda Iran Chick of NPR's planet money reports on potentially illegal business model. When Yvonne. Quarter I heard about arise virtual solutions. She was trying to find a way to home school her kids arise Zane worked from home pioneer. It's been around since the late nineteen ninety S, and it offers the opportunity to get paid to customer service work from home to me. It just released sounded like it was fun in an easy way to make money maybe not quite so easy quarter had to. Pay For three months training clause she bought herself a headset computer installed a new phone and fax line. So for a few years there if you were to call up Disney dining, you're gonna get me outside little. Rock Arkansas right now, quarter didn't work for Disney dining and by the way, Disney did not respond to our requests for an interview and she didn't exactly work for arise either she was an independent contractor. So she wasn't entitled to things like paid sick days. There is one point I was so sick I had a hang up on one of my Disney guests I had to throw up they're like, well, you need to schedule time off and I'm like what? It makes no sense quarter isn't the only one wondering about all this Arianna Tobin is a propublica reporter whose team spent over a year investigating work from home call centers arise to hire agents are is only will contract with what they call an independent business. A lot of the time it's just one person arise shifts a lot of training and gear costs from a Disney. Onto the customer service Rep, what you hear them say is we quote unquote squeezed the wastage out of your employment costs arise told us in a written statement that they've built a platform where agents can choose when where, and how often they work. But Labor Lawyers Shannon Lewis reardon argues that's not quite true in reality she says, arise maintains a lot of control over these workers. The really more like employees than contractors they've been mis classified the misclassification. The umbrella issue here list weirded is like lawyer famous for fighting cases against UBER LIFT DOOR DASH and other GIG economy companies. She says misclassification is increasingly common and she's fought a series of these kinds of cases against a rise. She's not allowed to say exactly how many though because deep inside the contracts of the Asian sign it says, if you have a problem with the rise, you have to go through private arbitration. It's basically like a private court you go to a private decision. Maker not a regular judge. The whole thing is confidential. Basically, what happens in private court stays in private court arbitration as a very effective means of companies keeping their workers in the dark about their legal rights. So people like von Quarter had no idea that some of her fellow arise customer service agents had filed complaints against the company. I didn't know there were so many other people that were going through the same thing feeling the same thing and based on Propublica is reporting many of the WHO fought arise one their cases according to an American Bar Association report from earlier in the year, the use of mandatory private arbitration has been increasing dramatically over the past three decades Amanda Renchik NPR news.

Update On Epic's Trial Against Apple

"Somehow, we got through Monday without anything new in the epic. Battle. Between Apple and epic. Games. What. Without any decision than the battle? Anyway. Given the speed with which she decided. The first time many myself included had expected judge Yvonne. Gonzalez's Rogers to rule on two particular points whether fortnight would be forced back into the. APP. Store. For the duration of the fight and whether apple would be allowed to kill the epic developer account tied unreal engine. While the first point could be a blow to epochs game side. The second could be a blow to many others at a bare minimum thousands of developers use unreal engine to power effects and their applications. If. Apple succeeds in tanking support for unreal engine, those developers will have to go elsewhere. Either out of the APP store or to another graphics engine. For a Quick Synopsis You can go to just about any site, the next web venture beat scene that. CNN. To me though the fun had to be reading the twitter thread, Financial Times correspondent Patrick McGee's coverage. Fun Because you get to read the blow by blow starting with the judge being irked that epic produced no documents for discovery. She was curious how epic and say Apple's thirty percent cut is unfair when seemingly every platform charges the same thirty percent cut. At the same time, she quizzed apples lawyer on where the competition was. Why is everyone charging thirty percent? Rather than some at ten percent some at twenty and so on. Apple's attorneys seems to indicate that apple started the thirty percent thing in two thousand eight. and. Everybody else followed suit. The real anticompetitive issue according to epochs attorney that apple won't let epic or anybody else set up its own store inside the IOS APPS store. To this McGee had apples attorney saying. EPIC creating its own competing store within the IOS platform is essentially an indictment of apples entire business model which has been committed to the safety security and privacy of its users. That is a fundamental disagreement with the way. Apple has chosen to do business, but apple's business model has been consistent throughout its existence. This is the way it has chosen to set up its model and its trademark is to safeguard its users. Seeming to lean apple's way on the fortnight. As you judge, Gonzales Rogers pointed out that walled gardens have existed for four decades. From. Nintendo consoles and handhelds to Microsoft to Sony. What apple is doing is not much different. She said they created a platform. There was a fascinating argument about whether in APP purchases through the APP store or a product in themselves separate and distinct from the APP store. At big argues they are while apple says they are not. Judge Gonzales Rogers seemed again. Decide with Apple. The were interest was piqued by a line of thought presented by epic when the company started its own sales in the fortnight APP on IOS. Fifty percent of people playing took advantage of buying the box directly from epic. The judge then put the question to apple's attorney. Doesn't that prove that half of apple's customers wondered an alternative to the APP store and it's in that purchase system. Apple's attorney countered all that really prove was that people would rather pay seven dollars then ten dollars for the same thing. Apples attorney said it was more telling that the other fifty percent would rather pay ten bucks through Apple's own system rather than give their payment info to someone else. The question of unreal engine was murkier this time around than last. While epic argued that trying to kill unreal engine To the APP store was retaliatory and had already done irreparable harm that the company. Apple argued that it wasn't fact defensive. McGee, says, Apple's attorney argued that if unreal is allowed to operate than epic, may try to sneak past apple's APP review process. According to the attorney, others would do it too, and that really goes to the core of the system. So it's not just epic and unreal engine that we're concerned about. That would go to the core of apple's business model and unravel it and be a green light to other companies and that would be very dangerous. Apple wasn't retaliating against unreal engine said the attorney it was protecting its ecosystem. As for four nights hot fix plugging its own payment processing into the. Judge Gonzales Rogers was stern saying to epic. You were not forthright. You weren't. You were told you couldn't do it and you did you know there's an old saying arose by any other name still arose. I mean, you can trial you want. There are plenty of people in the public who consider you guys heroes for what you did. But it's still not honest. Don't try to convince me that you were forthright. When you weren't. Up once again, suggested that epic put things back the way they were bring fortnight back to the APP store using apple's payment system and let the Games continue inside while fight continues in court. This prompted an idea from the judge. What is it thirty percent went into some kind of escrow account. What if the thirty percent apple would normally get from sales in the APP was held in escrow until the case is decided. Would that be cool with both parties? The attorney for Apple said, he'd have to check with apple but. That would seem to address a lot of issues. Epic declined however saying the court should not give its assistance to unlawful provision by monopolists. While there are two cases underway here judge Gonzales Rogers said she'd rather run them as one trial while she knows whichever side loses will appeal. She could be a jury trial because verdicts by jury or less often overturned on appeal. That said either apple or at Belk has to demand the jury trial for jury trial to happen. She'll need to hear their answer on that today. As for when the trial should go forward house next summer for everybody. I think you're looking at a July trial date she said. My favorite quote actually happened in the middle of the proceedings when the judge said. I think this is going to be a fascinating trial frankly because each of these efforts makes a compelling argument.

Don't Put Your Trust in the World (Ezekiel 27:27)

"Chapter Twenty Seven Verse Twenty Seven. Your riches, your wears your merchandise, your mariners in your pilots, your talkers, your dealers in merchandise, and all your men of war who were in you with all your crew that is in your midst. Sink into the heart of the seas on the day of your fall. So Ezekiel, Chapter Twenty seven continues this prophecy. From. Zico Sir. God speaking through a zeal. A prophecy against tire this city, it was known for its wealth and known for its international trade. Through the water on the sea and so when you hear this verse, your riches, your wears your merchandise, your mariners, your pilots, basically all that made. Tire wealthy all that made the economy of tires strong your coworkers, your dealers in merchandise and all your men of war who were in you those who protect the city. So thank the economy of tire and think the military of tire. So it was strong. Both of them were strong a strong economy and a strong military. and. What God is saying in this prophecy is all of it. Sinks into the heart of the sea on the day of your fall. So. What are we take away from that? How does this lead us to pray? Well certainly among other things without question. This verse reminds us that we must never put our trust in an economy in this world. And we must never put our trust in a military in world. Now that's not to say that economy is unimportant or a military is unimportant. Fact, we could look at other places in scripture. See many places where an economy we want to develop in a way that glorifies got as good for all people made in his image in way that is good for the poor in a way that is just and right and promotes prosperity and good for all people made in God's image. So yes, economies important and military is also important especially when you look at Romans chapter thirteen and the responsibility God's entrusted to governments as. To, wield the sword to protect people against Yvonne to promote. Good. So it's not an economy or a military is bad. But it is wrong to put your trust in either. One of these things because they are fleeting economies rise and fall military's grow strong and weak and when we put our trust in the things of this world, even things like an economy or in a military than we are putting our trust in places that will not hold that will in the words of Ezekiel Chapter. Twenty seven verse Twenty Seven Sink Into the heart of the sea on the day of our fall in other words God in his sovereignty can bring an economy or a military to nothing in an instant. So this is why the Sauna says some trust in chariots and some in horse his but we trust in the name of the Lord. Our God. So we say that together in prayer God right now. Especially amidst a pandemic that has. Wreaked havoc on economies all around the world we see. In a fresh way that we cannot put our trust ultimately in an economy in a job in money in. Savings accounts. Or we we thank you for your blessing for your grace and so many different ways in jobs and money that you provide in it and savings accounts even that can be used in different ways for your glory. We pray that you would help us keep us guard us from putting our trust in our money in wealth in economies. And God Garda's from putting our trust ultimately in military's even as I think about pastoring many people who are in the military in our church family. Praise you for your grace in them for your common grace in all kinds of people who served to promote good and protect people against evil. God, we pray for your blessing on them in a Romans chapter thirteen kind of way for the carrying out of your purposes for government at the same time. God We say before you now even as some Brothers and sisters who are praying this right now are in the military. We put our trust in our military might or power. We don't put our trust in chariots and horses. You are the only one who is worthy of all of our trust. We put all of our trust in you and we praise you. Oh, God they you will not fall that you do not come and go rise and fog grow weak or strong that you are constant. You are constantly strong new are ever wise you are. All powerful you're all good. You are all loving. You alone are worthy of all of our trust and all of our praise. So we say gladly we don't put our trust in economies and militaries. We don't put our trust in chariots horses. We put our trust in your name, the name of the Lord our God, you are a rock today you are life today and we worship. Ewing. Pray pray that you and help us to point other people around us in the world to you as the. Only one who's trustworthy got to help us to say today to somebody don't put your trust and your job your money Connie don't put your trust in military. Don't put your trust in this or that person political candidate political party whatever God help us to tell people today put your trust in Jesus. He alone can hold the weight of your trust help us to testify to your trustworthiness today in a world that is filled with so many things that will sink into the heart of the sea on. The day of judgement. We pray this in Jesus name. Amen

Evergrande bond trading halted on reports of cash crunch

"Extremely volatile session in the company's shares. We got reports of developers fearing a cash crunch. Let's bring in China Markets co anchor David English, David Get us up to speed with the story. It is a fast paced, developing one. Certainly we've had news in the last hour. Absolutely absolutely. And in fact, I'm just looking at just the shares right now. And we have about 30 40 minutes left before we entered a lunch break here in Hong Kong. We It probably fell yesterday. It fell at the open, then erase all those losses and traded higher and as we speak, it's not a raise. As much as what I think a 7% game. I mentioned it earlier when I was speaking with Yvonne and Tom. There's a lot of ifs in the story, and certainly it depends where you go and how this develops and could well be have massive market implications. That could mean one option or one scenario, or it also could be the world's Biggest nothing burger, really, if it does avarice that cash crunch But again there lots of there's a lot of uncertainty right now, which, I guess partly explains one to move in the equity market and second. More importantly, the pressure that has been consistent In the bond markets where you have, say 24 and five year bonds of the company that owns the local bonds, for example, maturing 2023 2024 falling as much as 20% last I checked in Shanghai. And have been have been halted, in fact, for about 30 minutes, But that was as of about an hour ago, so they should be trading right now, But it's it's precisely Rish and has how you would expect something like this to play out in the market. To a lesser extent in the equity markets, But the money's as they mentioned are continuing to be under pressure. We're trading over 90 yesterday were roughly in the mid seventies right now. Dave. It does seem like investors, a mauling the implications of this I mean, take a look at the stocks. You know, in the money in losses back and forth. What sparked this in the first place? What's this warning coming from the company? So it was. It was a letter that the company on it was a letter, dated about a month ago and it was from the company was sent to the Guandong government and essentially outlining If you will, the worst a really bad scenario. I wouldn't see worse case a really bad scenario in which if if they don't manage to get support for restructuring and part of that restructuring with then see, perhaps, or possibly see Them getting a listing in Shin Jin. If they don't get back, they're up against a deadline. January 31st, and that's when strategic investors may bow out. If that doesn't get extended, then it's this cash crunch $19 billion, as much as that. And to put that into context, size and scope. That's over 90% of their cash and cash equivalents. Not they're not. They're total assets but cash, but in other words, it's a sizable portion that they have to face. Not. The company's also come out separately with a statement responding to certain things that name seen on social media, and I'm going to read that just so I could be very, very precise here that the relevant documents and pictures Are fabricated as pure and are pure defamation, causing serious damage to the company's reputations. That's two sides of the story is an ongoing and developing one. As you would imagine.

Send packages or love one of the two But yeah, this is this is why these days. How has your bubble experience been so far to be honest committed it's gotten better. The airport experience was felt more stressful than I thought it went I actually had to masks because the end ninety five that US was one of those that does not protect the other person. So I put a cloth masks over that and then I ended up doing facial as well and it was the right move except man that first day travel psychologically I, remember just getting. Into, the hotel room just going Oh, boy that was the longest day of travel. I've ever had because mentally you can't smile at people. You can't talk to people that got me off to a tough start and then it's a nice room but the windows don't open you can't have a window open. There's no balcony unfortunately, the floor when I got here had not been cleaned so I would pay some walk and have bare feet in at the end of the. Day My feet would be black and so that mentally can after four five, six days you're sitting there going man I feel like I'm in this kind of dirty box. The other stuff that the players have talked a lot about is that even if the accommodations are fairly nice, it's just the psychological restriction and lack of freedom and knowing that you cannot go where you want to go. You can go on a walk around the perimeter, but if you go that. Direction and if you even go ten feet past the perimeter, you'll get seven days a quarantine. You know the other stuff also as it's just the interpersonal relationships and the people that everybody left behind you know whether you have a family or a girlfriend or a boyfriend whatever it is all that stuff adds up to a pretty challenging landscape had a productive couple of days. I'm going to carve out a little mental health time and there's a big pick ballgame happening. This afternoon with me in a few writers. I'm getting there. Well. So speaking of all of these challenges as in the bubble, let's talk about this epic meltdown of the team, a lot of people expected to at all the clippers. mcnuggets Oregon on time La. Twenty point lead with two ten remaining. This is absolutely shocking. What went wrong with the La Against Denver I think the broadview for me would be that we always felt like this team was potentially far too transactional if that makes sense. Somebody the other day, use the word mercenaries where it's kind of like I collide Leonard Paul. George have a ton of talent and they looked very good for most of the regular season. But in the bubble, what you saw was a team that was still learning one another in a team that wants the pressure continued to be applied by these other very good playoff teams. They did not have the fabric, the togetherness that connectivity and leadership to get through that. In Game Seven, I sat about twenty feet away from the clippers bench and that meant that I watched a clippers bench that with around seven minutes to go and I think they were down around thirteen at the time they just completely look like they gave up. This is what your best players got to elevate their game. And the clippers have disappointed asphalt. From the field. Two points in the fourth quarter. And frustrated, the stock of the heads went down the talking stopped you had all of a sudden whereas earlier in the game there was a flood of support and clapping from guys on the bench and intensity and passion. You had the golf clap clippers owner Steve bomber feeling like limber fans right now. I am absolutely shocked. Give this Denver Nuggets team a lot of credit. have taken the fight away from the clippers. deservedly. So the leadership thing is what they need to analyse going forward because as amazing Kawhi is he's incredibly quiet. We know that and Paul George I don't think has really ever found his leadership voice maybe that's just not the type of personality he is. But if you compare them to that other team in La, you know you've got a dude and Lebron whose so fogel and raise on Rhonda who sell vocal and I think if I had to pinpoint one of the biggest factors that kind of led to their demise I think it would be that. you and our colleague Yvonne Boo reported on chemistry issues within the clippers back. In January, did you get the sense that those issues were still present inside the bubble? So I don't I wish I had a better pulse on that. You Doc was kind of the main voice that I heard. I went to to other practices where I would listen closely to what doc had to say, and one thing that struck me was he would very candidly talk about how they were still learning each other as a team in the middle of the playoffs I look at the whole picture and I realize we haven't been together we haven't had a lot of time together. So I get it. You had the old guard, the Lou, Williams Pat Beverley mantras hair let group that did some pretty special things and the playoffs last year and was gritty and would play forty eight minutes a night if you wanted them to. Now, they tried to integrate with Choline Paul who came with the very different script and a very different style and combining the old and the new had its fits and starts, and certainly in the end, it seems like a lot of those things out. Cherishing teams are. The more chemistry for this group. D, better. I think that's really the tell at a tape with the season just didn't have enough time together. Paul George has been vocal about the mental toll of being in the bubble a couple of weeks ago. Paul George talked about being in a dark place whatever. The bubble got the best of me. I was just in a dark place. A really wasn't here. I checked out and SAM. You've gotten a taste of what it's like to be an isolation down there. We've just talked about that. Do you feel like Paul George and the clippers were maybe hit harder by the challenges of playing in this Environment Paul for sure I mean I applaud him for his willingness to speak openly about it, and then only he knows where his head was at in the later part of the series but I'll never forget I mean right corner. He shoots that three and it clicks off the backboard George. Why office to side of the backboard left corner he barely draws rim on three George Corner three way off short. Gets the rebound Paul George. Now, just to for ten from downtown they were more shook I don't know how to explain it than any NBA team I've ever seen in a crucial moment. I've never seen anything like that. So I don't know how Paul's State of mind came into play but I do think the clippers had a really hard time getting through all that stuff. So Sam what comes next for the clippers, they have a lot of strong personalities and obviously some divisions between them can they hold it together and be titled Favorites Again Next Year you know to be determined. There's already a little bit of a growing sense or at least questions around the League of are they is there any chance they would think about blowing this out because you got to remember to why Paul signed deals they're up next summer they can get out and and when they came to the clippers. People felt like it was unofficially you know a lifetime contract because those guys have the personal connection to the area but I think we're quickly getting reminded that if the basketball situation is not right and if their work life is negative, then you absolutely can't rule out the possibility of them changing their minds. Year and maybe sounding somewhere else you know the NBA rules are when you have a superstar a year away from free agency YOU'RE GONNA probably have to take those phone calls from other teams if you're not getting assurances and promises from those players that they're not going anywhere. So they've got a lot of questions to have answered and it's going to be painful for them to watch this Lakers nuggets series knowing how close they came.

Epic judge will protect Unreal Engine — but not Fortnite

"Nothing like seeing too high powered lawyers represent a billion dollar company, a trillion dollar company getting muted on Zoom by a judge. It was pretty beautiful quick bullet points to the people who missed the previous episodes on this lawsuit for night I undercut apple and Google's prices for books on the APP store and Google play respectively a response apple and then later Google pulled fortnight from the APP store and Google play EPA Games then sued both companies and released in Nineteen eighty-four parody ad targeting apple then apple decide to come for epic's unreal engine and that's what led to the hearing Monday afternoon judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers henceforth known as wide Gr growed the lawyers from both companies. The hearing was brought forth by epic games as they saw a temporary restraining order preventing apple for removing epochs developers certification. Developer certification is basically a set of tools that helps developers using unreal engine. Make their games work for IPHONES THE UNREAL engine for people unfamiliar with it is one of the two major engines that video games are built on the vast majority of games be they for PC or mobile or even for many of Hollywood's effect studios are built on your of the unreal engine or the unity engine. In the N. judge why Gr decided to grant temporary restraining order when it came to the unreal engine, but it denied it when it came to fortnight's place on the APP store, there's a lot that went down in this hearing include linked to an eastward observer article a tweet threat by journalists Sarah Young. They're good reads if you're interested in learning more about this lawsuit and how this hearing took place also Weiji are through a tunnel shade and it's just really fun read. I'll highlight one specific quote from a judge which is going to pose a problem for epic. The judge mentioned how epic could simply remove the Hawks which undercut the APP stores prices causing epic daybreak terms of service and leading to his whole affair epic is clearly not willing to do that but that's the danger when entering the lawsuit were you already aggressing party? The next hearing is set for September eighteenth. So I'll be back then if not sooner for another update on this lawsuit

Get to Know Lindsey Vonn

"Heard last week's episode cows good time to go back and check it out. We collect, introduce yourself I am when's Yvonne? I won the Olympics in downhill skiing I'm from Minnesota and I am currently engaged to peek a SU- ban of the New Jersey devils and have three dogs slap makes you a rebel girl I mean I'm a rebel girl because I've always followed my dreams and a really high goals for myself and I think that's what being a rebel really means you know striving for greatness and being the best that you can be. Simone had to make some hard decisions in order to proceed gymnastics. What were some hard decisions you had to make on your way to becoming an Olympic skier I? Think every athlete honestly has to make hard decisions especially if you WANNA be in Olympia and I'm the oldest of five kids and my parents had to decide. To our entire family to Colorado from Minnesota and so that was a huge sacrifice for my whole family But we all did it together and I wouldn't have made it without their support, but it was definitely a a really difficult time for all of us. Tell us about the work you're doing with the lose Yvonne Foundation well. I'm really proud of what I'm doing with Lindsey. Vonn Foundation and I actually started it when I had my second ACL surgery and so a little complicated but ACL is like your main ligament that crosses through kind of the middle of your knee, and that really is the stabilizing ligament for your whole leg and. Very critical, obviously for skiing. So it was a very long recovery and. The second ACL surgery I had in two years. So needless to say, I had a lot of time on my hands and that was a positive of that injury was being able to start my foundation. In your knee tube series career day you interview notable women and fell female athletes what inspired you to start the series. So career actually started because I was trying to think of ways to keep kids motivated during the coronavirus lockdown. Was Not being able to go to school and doing some online stuff and. A lot of kids that were involved in sports had a really hard time. You know they couldn't practice with their teams or coaches all the gyms were shut down. So I just wanted to have them connect with their heroes are idols, and you know kind of keep their minds focused on the future and not what's currently going on. So you know kind of connected some of my scholarship winners with heroes in in their particular field know Caroline Wozniacki, Misty Copeland Ballerina. have an astronaut that's coming on I just have some incredible people and their these kids that have these scholarships are able to talk directly to their heroes and. That's something that really is profound to me because when I met my idol peekaboo street when I was nine at an autograph signing that was really the reason why I wanted to become an Olympian. So I hope that this interaction with these people allows them to really stay motivated and focused and know that the dream is actually achievable. Gown is a big part of skiing and gymnastics. How do you get back up? I think falling is a part of life you know. Maybe gymnastics and skiing, and it's a little bit more physical but I think we all have obstacles in our lives and You know the the the fall or the obstacles really the important part. The important part is knowing that you can pick yourself back up and keep going and learn from your mistake. Mistakes aren't bad unless you don't learn from them. So I always look it falls as opportunities to learn opportunities to get better. And we're inherently in our entire lives always gonNA fall, but we have to have the strength to pick ourselves backup. Many of our young fans help to pursue their sport professionally. Do you have any advice for young girls who dream of Competing in the Big Leagues? You know the biggest piece of advice I can give you is. Always dream big and work as hard as you can always give one hundred and ten percent. You know if you always give your best, you're always going to get the best outcome and no matter. If that's winning Olympic gold medal or competing on your high school team or making it to college or getting scholarship you know everyone has their own. Best you know, and you just have to work

Yannick Noah Interview

"We've had a week off and. Has Gone to get his haircuts. Catherine's been hanging out with Magnus. The dog I've been stressing about my football team west from job in as they try to throw promotion away. That may or may not mean something to you, and we will be back with tennis podcasts over the coming weeks and months altogether chat in as we normally do, but today we have a very very special interview with the French Open champion of nineteen eighty-three, the world's number three as his highest ranking, but that really doesn't tell the story of Yannick who is unquestionably the coolest man I have ever met Davis Cup winning captain. Three Times Fed Cup winning captain as well and had a hugely successful music career. Once his tennis stays had come to an end I had the chance to meet him just over twenty years ago when he joined the champions tour. Tour retired players who just traveled to will played matches against one another him and John McEnroe and beyond bog, and all these greats of the game, and just got to know him a little bit at that time. He was always suggest to me. I haven't seen him for about ten years, but I managed to get in contact with him through a couple of other people when we were researching and trying to set up interviews full at tennis, relived series, particularly the French Open, so that we could tell that story, and you'll have heard an excerpt perhaps of this interview when we covered his run to that nineteen, eighty three French Open title, but the entire interview. It's just joy, and it will improve your mood, and if you do enjoy the into you tell your friends family, let your social media, and what's that group's now about it because it will just leave them happier than when they started listening to. It has Yannick Noah. I'd like to go right back to the beginning of your of your career, and even before your career and the reason for your career and. I believe a meeting with Arthur Ashe. Yep Absolutely. Our used to leave the group in Cameroon, Africa and We were I was playing detail club tennis was. Not, very, big in Cameroon in the whole country, back nine court, so to play tennis was very privilege radio privilege so. so we used to go to the club at night, but at that time my parents couldn't afford a racket in one day. When I heard that? Some Americans were coming to the club saw. Americans you know so. So Marty Riessen Charlie Pasarell, Tom, ochre, and Arthur Ashe where doing tour in Africa. And they happen to play one day my club. During the clinic they decide. They played with the kids. And I played with Sir and Liked what he saw. I was slim press. You know he was my heroes. At the end of the clinic gave me a racket is racket. Head competition that worth like. Probably Probably what my parents would making every month. and it was you know it was like a dream for me to meeting. Dr Racket Sonya poster. Saying To Yannick I hope I'll see one that. So that was very funny. But the next thing that happened is after this story went to the French Open and he talked to shut. It was the president of the Federation. I told him that he was a little kid was playing. Or was in French. Speaking. Country and And I I. The scholarship came to friends because of author I played in niece for few years. And? The first time I played in Wimbledon That was nine years after we met was in Wimbledon because as for wild card. That was accepted and we play doubles on center court. So that was a beautiful story, so yes, the so mean Africa. And he was a big part of my story. Because and after that you know. For some reason, he was always like you know. Not Too far helping me when I was younger growing up, and then you know played with him at Wimbledon, the first tournament. Back in the days. It was called Super Seris. I was playing Richmond Virginia where he was born. And that was the first tournament I one. Super Series and As I was you know going through the tournament semifinal quarterfinals? Semifinals Playing Roscoe Tanner and these gentlemen comes into locker room sold demand. It comes. It goes Yanic if you win. Arthur is coming tomorrow SEO really worrisome. Is Dad. So that was that was something I beat Roscoe and An author flew to Richmond I played Yvonne in the finals. Won The won. It and Arthur gave me the cup in his hometown, so that was really special.

The Twitpocolypse

"Some time ago about a year ago, or maybe two years ago, twitter introduced time based one time passwords google authenticated as most people know that mechanism where you have an authentic eater APP on a mobile device, and that gives you six digit codes to log in as to factor, which is much more secure than SMS SMS of course can be hijacked if your Sim Card is hijacked, so a lot of people were speculating all of these different methods of attack to me. It seems unlikely that accounts that are very familiar with some checking because. Because it happens a lot in crypto and has had a lot of high profile. Reporting would have SMS. It also seemed unlikely that even if they did that, someone was able to Sim Jack phones from big accounts across two different continents, at least because some of these accounts are china-based or singapore-based, some are europe-based. Some are a us-based that involve several different phone carriers in different countries all done within a matter of hours. It seemed to me very unlikely that I would be the case so assuming that they did have hardware two factor authentication. Or at least an authentic eater op, you can't really steal a password. That's not enough. So then, if the account security is likely to be quite secure, what are the other avenues someone can get in? The next most likely mechanism of attack would be API's so twitter has API's that allow various social media, aggregate or sites to post so that whole team of people can schedule and review and posts to multiple platforms similtaneously I. Use platforms like that, too. It allows me to work with a team of people and collaborate on what we post and schedule it out in advance. So. When you see a personal message from me, his personal, but when you see an with like I'm doing this video on Saturday, you know that's scheduled in advance and it's posted automatically. Are, not sitting there, attaching images and typing in Hashtags in real time. These services of course access the twitter API using off which is a nation protocol. It's the same protocol that's us when you log into a site using your google account and it redirects. You gets an encrypted challenge response message from uses that antedates into sight. And these gain full access the twitter time and presented in some of the site. You're probably familiar with things like hoot, sweet and buffer, sensible and various other sites like that now. These sites are not always as well secured. So that was my immediate suspicion. Because from there you can easily post the message, and if that site security isn't a strong with two factor, etc, I assumed. had been compromised than because there are only a handful of social media postings services eight. It was quite possible that all of these disparate companies were using the sang. Then the attack continued to escalate. One of the things that was noticeable was that the tweets that will come out? Were saying twitter web APP. Now when you have an off service that is posting remotely through the API. It has a clear identifier, says twitter for iphone, says hoot suite, it says some social media, posting or something like that. It doesn't say twitter web up. So my immediate suspicion was that this was a browser extension again much easier to compromise it. Browser extension that is a common single point of failure across all of these different accounts, and would have access to twitter web API to post on behalf or maybe sore credentials for users. There are a lot of sloppy browser extensions out there and then people started talking about the possibility of zero day browser exploit now. That'd be a very serious problem. Because Zero Browser, exploit effectively means that someone was compromising browsers through some click through mechanism, revolt, execution, or something like that and hijacking credentials from inside the browser secure store. That's a very serious. Because I would affect not just twitter, but then again it was only happening on twitter. And why would you use a zero day? Browser exploit that can be enormously powerful to hack only one site twitter, and then to use it to do this silly. Nigerian scam. I'm using the term Nigerian scam because Nigerians have anything to do with us, but because this type of scam originated with the Nigerian Prince Story, I mean it's a story, actually the we've seen repeat over and over and over again for two decades exactly I was reading through some kind of gaming coverage of this and many of them are likening it to scams that. That have been pulled in Yvonne Line, which is a popular sort of Laissez Faire, M., o. and ruined scape, also, which is really like a mostly for kids type of environment, and again like seven years ago. Apparently there was a rash of this type of give your money and I'll give you double back and again of course in crypto currency. We've seen this since.

Earlier this week, however that all fell apart, and in order to learn more about it, I called on Imran Khan to explain everything Imron. Come into the gaming ride home show again for having me Yvo was canceled. And I just want you to give me the full story. What happened? Why was it canceled? Everything start from the beginning, so ego is the biggest fighting tournament in America Kinda the biggest in the world. There's like some discussion about that at this point, but ego is basically where fighting games have been aspiring to for the last twenty thirty years and listening started in the ninety S. This year, obviously because of covid kit have their usual Mandalay Bay Las Vegas big gathering of fighting game players. So this year they ended up canceling I place. Eve Online Eve online was a different thing where the. Mainly, got games together with like Netco like mortal Kombat eleven and them fighting her indie game that was originally based on my little pony, but basically it was A. It has to evolve brand that could stay around despite not being the big mass gathering tournament that they expect over the last couple of weeks. There's been a bigger. industry-wide movement to out sexual predators in gaming and the gaming industry, and some companies have been hit harder than that are with that bubis off for example, but for the most part it's. It's not a huge thing within the FTC. Because the FTC's always kind of had a reputation of like. Being a bit more open with their sexual harassment and it's always like. It's never been to a level of. A mass critical mass. Joey quilter this past week yesterday in for yesterday in fact was outed by a player. Named He's just does mikey. He goes online and is after the tag is crack. Peron but George Taylor. Who is the head of the current? President Vivo who founded it with Tommy Tony Kanaan. was outed for experiences when he was. Close, to twenty, where they were southern golf land, which is an amusement park in l. a.. That mikey accused him of basically. Paying money to young kids to take their shirts. Germany polls mikey related experience where he said quarter. Paid him twenty dollars to see his genitals inside a restroom and bought him pornography so. It's IT'S A. It's a larger thing that when you look at it from the perspective of not a child who just thinks they're having fun. It's real creepy, but what is conditions came out. Other people's Front, also coming out of the woodwork, saying like more finding old chaser people were talking about doing these things, but not naming names, and now that it's out. The floodgates are broken out. Yvonne immediately went. No, WE'RE GONNA put on administrative leave and check this out, so I mentioned Tom. Tony Kennedy before their more famous like they are obviously co-founders of ego, but there are more famous right now for being developers of Product L. at riot games so. They had to step in for this and go okay. We're looking at this right now. We're investigating and seeing what happens. It did not take very long before nether realm. I believe the first one like say. Are Involved with ego involvement in that sense means we don't WanNA game there. We're not going to earn any money towards prize pools. We're not doing any advertising which is fairly big deal. Arguably moral combat was like the lead game for that tournament. Right for the online tournament. Yes, Merle come at usually has a hard time with like the in person tournament. Fighting community hasn't really take to that game too well, but as an online net code game like for example, smash brothers was canceled for Eve online because the net code. Isn't that good, so this is more time to shine. The actual like really arguably was streetfighter as it is every year. This year. Are Not meeting her, but a little bit. After another canceled COP CANCELED IN ONCE CAPCOM cancels gets away from ego. Then that's that's the ballgame lets. Everything goes away soon after main sex developers of them biting heard who this is their big chance to become A. Kind of a household name and if I didn't need community, they cancelled. Bay Namco canceled and ran into that ego are the canons came out with a message from as ego saying? Hey, we were cutting for joy color. He is not president anymore. In the future, he will have zero involvement with the organization this not he's going to not be on. He's going to be on the board, or he'll be the FCC or he'll still kind of tournaments. They're cutting it off completely. Shortly after that they also that announced, we can't under these circumstances and this change in organization also do evil online in a couple of weeks in August. A month or in August? I. Know that screws over a lot of people, but. It seems like honestly the best. Call right now of. You'RE GONNA have to go through with work. That joy has done or you're going to have to. Try It's from scratch. Cobble together in event that takes at least a year to actually set up and try to get together in a couple of weeks. Yeah, I mean they just they basically. Got Rid of the boss in the most public way, possible right I mean it's it's you can't just like recover from that in a matter of weeks. Really Yeah, it's. It is one of those things of a lot of this is. Probably high time for the funding community insert reckoning with a lot of these things, because it's an issue for a number of years, it was I. I don't know if you recall but a about eight years ago, there was a street fight across capcom across Tekken. Show online, and it ended up ending as a result of some sexual harassment claims, and those a big divide in the community about like whether sexual harassment was a just a part of the culture or not and. Stuff like this doesn't help that argument. No I mean I like you, said earlier I mean like. Feels like the right call to elevate it, and as disappointing as it is for Yvo to be cancelled like it's a big flag for like we need to address. This is if we're going to cancel this event because we need to look at ourselves internally and I think I. Mean Hope the hope is that they come out better on the other side. I mean it seems like this is one of those things where. I. Hesitate to say Covid kind of save them but. If. This were an actual in person things still at Mandalay Bay then they wouldn't be able to cancer that quickly an online tournament. Shuttered a lot more easily. The bigger question now is what happens next year.

How to Dream BIG

"So dreaming big I'm a big time. Dreamer I have a lot of friends who are big time dreamers. I'm realistic dreamer but I. Just believe that. If you shoot for the stars, you end up getting a lot right even if you don't get to the store you want to go to. You'RE GONNA get a lot more? If you shoot for the stars then if you don't then if you play small, you don't fly small. You're board place mall. You're born. Play big. Let me. Ask You a question. Do you still dream? About what you're going to be when you grow up. It's funny as I've gotten older I've never stopped that I never have. I get more excited, the older I get, and I find myself years ago when I was a younger guy when I was in my twenties and stuff I would. I would talk to people in their seventies and eighties, and they would say I still feel like I'm eighteen. And I never got it, but as I got older decade after decade after decade. I get it now. But one thing I've also noticed a lot of people don't have the dreams that they used to have. They're afraid to have them. They've forgotten how to dream. I still do that I still wonder what's GonNa be when Scott grows up and I'll let you figure it out, but I'm having a good time doing what I'm doing right now. Those visions. Those type officials keep hopping around in your head. Think about it for just a minute. Do they miss a reason? They're in there. As I've said many times before. If these ideas pop into your head, you got a couple of choices you can go. Do something about it sometimes scary. You cannot do something about it sometimes scary, or you can sit there on the fence getting spinners in your ass worrying about the whole time, drive yourself crazy for the next ten fifteen twenty thirty years. I highly suggest you don't do that. I want you to take those ideas on your head. Look at them and acknowledge him as a yeah. This is Kinda cool. So. They're popping around your head I. Want You to? Think about this. One is your big awesome motivating mission. What's your big awesome motivating i? Call Them Damn too big awesome motivating mission. I have goals like that as well. What's driving you? Where do you WanNa, go think about it inside and I will tell you this. In with ninety nine I really truly is ninety nine percent. I'll get people on the phone with coaching calls. I talked to people on the phone a lot all week long. I'm talking to people on the phone all over the world. And I will tell you. Uh Question. I'll say so. What's in your head? What's going on what really want to do? What are your dreams? Which your big awesome motivating mission and the global? No. I so I know you don't know, but if you did, what would it be? And then they go POW for the next ten minutes. They told me exactly what it is, and then if they forget it gone and I said, did you hear what you just said? Did you hear all that stuff? That just came out of your mouth. Yeah. We're there come from. the, smile on their face, peers I can hear it on the phone or seat on the call. So you have asked that question these visions in your hand. These things you want to do when you grow up what's driving you? What's at big awesome motivating mission? Mine is to do what I do. The Best I could possibly do knowing full well that if I do it really really well. Other people get all excited they Scott I wanNA I. Want what you've got going on there I won't come. Hang on to you a little bit. I wouldn't suggest it because I move fast is going to be unpredictable. I can be a radic. Sometimes I like to sleep in late on Saturday stuff like that. You probably wouldn't like all that stuff, but. What drives you Bam. What Dreams Excite you? Give you a feeling a happiness. I know that Scott. I can't do it I have this idea. Somebody really excites me I. Just be so happy doing that, but I can't do it. Why not? Why not because it scares me? Bam sure it does anything bigger than you. You never done before. It's going to scare you. What excites you though? Scares excites at the same time. Have you ever noticed how close to feelings are. Somebody screaming Oh my God. They're screaming. Let me say here. I come to see the day. Underdog is here. You go there, and you find out somebody's laughing hysterically himself. I thought you were dying. Laughing Fund Yukos cracking up. He cracks me up when he says that stuff. What's cares what excites you? It's kind of the same in that. Oh my God think about that for a second. Get excited your goal and yet it feels like you're fearful Bam. What makes you smile? When you think about doing it. It's that simple. Makes, you smile, you say. If I could get myself to Bam. I know it's in their. My question is. Do you have the nerve to? Admit, what's in there? Take a few minutes and figure out which Bam is and stand up. Take a SIP repeat Yvonne going to get what you want. Because I'M GONNA. Come over to your house and Meka. That's the case. Okay, I am.

"So? That's on means it's time for our final segment which is laughing round. It's like a lightning round, but because it's comedy, it's a round. So short questions later questions I promise, you Do you ever favorite? Joke like a street. A favorite joke. Chris Rock. says. Excuse me I was wondering. Is it possible? Everytime yeah. Do you have a joke that you kept on trying, but never worked, and but you think maybe the audience was wrong, and you'll always think it's funny. You South Ryan. man if I did I had it out of my memory, actually no way there was a joke that I thought was funny, and it was it was. It was not and actually use it one time at a request from a friend and the audience. Let me know like no. You lied to me I thought it was funny I've. Never again I won't say. I wouldn't use that dope again. Won't even say what it is. Not? Even. At the top of the season of insecure, my colleague harassed ranked every man on insecure for those who haven't read it. Number one was L-, Thug Yoda number two was jared number three years Andrew, and in last place beyond Scott Foley as a slave owner du Nord was dro. Did you see this list? What what do you think about? What did you think about it? What do you think about it? I saw this list was. Comic. Gold at it's fine I was just like who is this magical humid that has gone through the trouble of breaking all of them and I love the criteria and then was like. Let me go back on his one criteria because also. We had this one guy in the scene. Yeah no I saw I saw I think, but Yoda is perfect, because the as number one he is, he's he's been consistent throughout all four seasons. He is like I. Think this visa. I'm not afraid to be myself I will never use. Words. He's great. And how do you feel about you? Drill being last place, Josephine. Eve. Joe's definitely be the last lady I am. I agree She gets the award for getting right absolutely. She'll be very pleased. There's a last question which is barely a question which is this interview is taking place before the finale of insecure has aired, but we'll. The interview will come out after it has aired so without telling me what happens. What is your answer to how you felt about what you learned? What happens does that make? Way What. Reverse psychology or trying to tell you what happened. Yes all right, so let me try explained against. This interview as you know, it's happening before the finale airs and press has not seen it, but the interview will come out after the finale aired so everyone listening will have watched the finale, so to those people these future us. What do you, WanNa say about the finale? What would your reaction to be? What do you feel like? You want to communicate to these people I will say we needed everything that happen. This season in order to get us to this moment. Perfect! Perfect. Perfect bag to this. Thank you so much for your time. Thank you so much for answers. Is this was fantastic? Thank you. God, bless you.

"Hopefully your credit score will match that level of confidence in your your bill paying. Suave nece in general when you're putting it all together, and you talked about how it was a pretty short time line to sort of make thing between different projects you had. How do you think about how these things are ordered? How do you sort of approach it as a single set? Yes, well for me I, knew that the beginning like I kinda wanted to move from like. getting to know me so like this is me. This is my world. This is the Nigerian. This've it lie before I go into. Other aspects of me, I gotta lay the foundation with like who I am, and what this means so that you can understand my perspective on all these other jokes right, so it was very much like. Let me introduce you to my world. And then it was like is what Nigerians do. This is my purview, my perspective, being both Nigerian and American, and so I'm going to look at things. you know with this kind of bird's eye view even if it's like what it looks like for the plate taboo, what it looks like you know for Nigerians with education, and like why you know jobs, specifically that group of people are so. So like gun-ho of being that those lawyers and engineers 'cause like my Momma won't even let me play with somebody who doesn't make straight as you know, and like we're only in third grade, so it's kind of like. Let you giving you a little bit of like insight into your. Like Herman's head backdated. was that show like giving a little bit of insight into my world, and then on my all right? Let's have some fun you know. Hopefully it's fun all the way, but it's just like education over Now. Let's apply everything we just learned to like playing games. With different groups of people going on dates, you know. Make a vision board. And then I knew that like the setup of like haggling in the beginning was like my call back to you know if I got kidnapped and my parents, and knowing that like I would enter my set with being you know the single woman, and what that looks like culturally you know spiritually et Cetera, and then knowing that like I. I would take you from one place that you thought I. Left you and apply it back to the other thing because the reality is I, can't stop being all of these things that I just told you I was yeah. We talked about it before. which is part of that? Is You mix in this documentary footage of visiting your family in France and Nigeria. You explain at the top of the special why you wanted to do which is sort of no way I could do a special about my life without showing you my life and I wanted to ask a little bit more about that you know what one what do you think it does for the home audience you know? What does it offer them? But even beyond that it's like you know. Why did you want the audience like? Why do you want the audience to know more of you? Why? What about yourself? As an artist? You're like there's a deeper understanding they can get if I do this. And why is that important for you? You know I think that. Most comedians you can tell like. What you're going to get from a Dave, but actually maybe maybe you can't ever tell what you're gonNA, give Dave develop though, but you know that you're GonNa get brilliant. Watched his. A forty six they came out and it was so impassioned. I don't even know can call it a comedy special. I think it's like extended tedtalk a very necessary, but it's like, but it's exactly what we needed but you know that Dave is going to see the world from like turning it on its head like you've had enough experience with him to know that he has his very like. Incredibly dark, but also like funny sense of humor. And Awful, not even dark but like. Inquisitive. He will make you think he's never gonNA. Give you a joke like open-handed. You're going to have to come to come up to his level You know that you know Trevor Noah is going to like apply being South African as well as being like like understanding the political. Movements of both in South Africa and in America. You know you without a comic letting. You know that they're teaching you about them. You're learning about them with every show you go to, and so for me it I recognize that a lot of people came to know me through a character I play Mali on insecure. But I was doing comedy long before I was molly, and so this was kind of music having to reintroduce a fan base. Who didn't know me as this and so. Before I before I get into my groove. It's like it's like when you come to school the first day you're like. Hey, class, you know. We're GONNA, take role by the way my name is. Professor Orgy. Couple of these know about me that that syllabus this year. We're going to get quizzed on the thirteenth in. Any questions gray, and now we can get into the lesson plan right, and so it was kind of like that way of me. Saying like Oh. This is who I this. Who Yvonne is and I know you love Molly, maybe not this season, but you Rockwood Yvonne Yvonne Pretty Dope in her own way. Let me show you and that was and but at the same time it's like. Going back home and showing my parents, that was my way of being like I'm going to have the Mike for an hour. I know that you all don't get the opportunity to to have a say you know you just use. Listen to me. You may shake. Your hand does not through. You know like you know or I have an issue with that or whatever so I'm like. Let me give my parents the time that they deserve to to to air their grievances to cosign or not and those are some of the most special moments for me in this project because it was like Oh. I get to show the world like who I am through my parents. Because they helped. Make me this way. and you know for the most are we all have whatever relationship we have with our parents, whether it's tumultuous whether it's loving whether it's tender whether they're moments of like highs and lows in, it's like yeah, that's that's also relatable number across a seven seas, and all the continents. You understand this Mon, these moments that I'm having with my parents, and they're having with me, We'll be right back with.

"Comedy gives you a microphone and maybe one light and you the now is everybody who has everything on the inside of you make the entire room at the same time lapse is true. And it's like you are on the hook for all of it for that entire set like on a show. Your lines aren't the entire half hour is a little bit of it and it's like you don't have to carry the whole thing. Yeah Yeah Yeah. Yeah no for sure. It's like you'll see molly in a twenty eight minute episode for like fifty. You keep movie. Let's talk about molly bid. If you're with that let's do it. Let's do it. This has been a season I WanNa talk about the really big fight between your character molly and the character. Isa On the show. They have been best friends since the start and now we find ourselves in the situation season for where they've had this big humongous fight. That could mean the end of their friendship. It surprised me to see the fight. Did it surprise you to see it in the script? I mean this. All season surprise me like eastern genuine love each other like in real life so we knew. Cr CHARACTERS I fighting A. It'll be friends this so five. You know any town where onset you know. The energy is off. Because we're NASA be friends but then also were not onset at the same time this season specifically because she had a dull in her world. Her world was existing without highly. And so it was kind of so. I'm not GonNa see you and then when I do see you we be hard you know. It was kind of hard and then we'll get to that moment. It's kind of like. Oh I don't like the fights the first one that really rocked me was episode seven of season one as the funding molly beaches in public places to have beef with ease. Do do that. Y'All really do do that. And it's it's it's a look. It's not a good but it is a look. It's just a look. Yeah so see that one was the one that rocked me because it was like the first dramatic really really dramatic moment for us like the earlier fights. I would and the scene and be like. I'm sorry that y'all wrote this. I'm like I love you this one. I think this season was also a lot for a lot of people because we've all had friendships that break up and I know personally I'd say East on my man. I'm reaching into the well of friendships. Daddy's gone to to play channel other friendships ending to really important scene. Yeah no that Fi will probably things I would've wanted to say to people could never say the people so it was it was like I don't like this but I get this. How many takes did it take you all to get that scene right? Oh man it's a couple and each time he was silent. I remember it is being silent in between the takes because it was very media was very much like we. Don't this is the moment where she says. I don't like that led to her saying I don't F- Ahmad Anymore and I remember that. This particular fight scenes feeling very different feeling like who it has. The heavy have gone too far. Yeah it felt like it was going too far and and like I. I mean you know you get invested in these relationships in the show I was like like taken aback watching it. What do you think watching? This whole thing is going to do for fans of insecure. Like what are you? Want them to take from this season in this fight. What is the lesson in it for folks and also than the for you use your words? The lesson is use your words because we get them aboard it so much of this. If we just talked somebody like we talked to Thanksgiving. We could have avoided this if we talked after the Grocery store we like if we talked during the lunch that canola invaded. We probably couldn't have gotten to a better place but now is just like yeah. Goodness also all about timing. There were multiple moments. Where one of. Y'All was ready for the conversation and the other one was not and it's so important to have these critical conversations when both people are in a place where they can have them and often that is just as much of a challenge is having the right words to say for sure for sure like I think and sometimes you don't know the word but you know the feeling if that makes sense like I don't know what to say necessarily but I'd feel molly's like I feel used and east is like I feel like you're stupid but it's basically I feel down is what he's A. You know you supposed to be my writer die and I feel like you're now my die and not my ride so yeah for sure. Find the right words the right time. It's all miss adulting is hard. They don't teach it in kindergarten. They tell you to take time for another break when we come back. How Yvonne Orgy was bamboozled? That is right bamboozled by God bamboozled into the Dream Life. She has now. She'll explain the support for this. Podcast comes from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation helping NPR advanced journalistic excellence in the digital age. Podcast cut through the noise and let you know what decisions are being made and how they affect you. I want to ask you questions. Can about your upcoming book sore. Okay I mean. I'm so intrigued by the title. It is called bamboozled by Jesus. How God tricked me into the life of my dreams. I'm a new right now. To give me one example before this book is even out of at least one trick. That guy played on you. Turn INTO A dream. Please tell me. Doesn't Dan Booze laying me my whole life? He bengals my parents with me because I was born my mother's Iud And it was shows like oh I promise you in nineteen eighty three in late in pawtucket Nigeria. I came out clutching the thing that was supposed to prevent my conception and I was like y'all keeping take that US so I think I was like oh I was at her off on a path from birth and so he'd been boosted my mom dad and then would be like. I know you US going to be a doctor that you you you but don't worry about eight years For you to make an is going to be long. It's GONNA be rough but hey stick with me. Kid actually works like nobody would choose. Who's old but you keep going. He just keeps saying yes. You just keep trusting and believing and having faith and then you get to the promised. Land you like Jesus knew what he was doing Iraq with Jesus here new talk about this what I find really interesting and probably really hard to do for like people who are looking to a higher power for guidance. You know when. Say to yourself. I'm going to let God trick me. You have to admit to things you have to admit that you think. Oughta SMARTER THAN YOU and knows more than you do in that. You aren't the smartest and you have to kind of say I'm not in control either and those can be too hard things to do it. It sounds like you've been listening to guide. And letting him bamboozle you for awhile. Was it always that way for you? Were there moments where you didn't WanNa listen where you just did not wall? I were Catholic and when I got to college I became a born again Christian and I remember being like so. Let me get this straight. We can have a personal relationship with God like we can talk to him. But he's the home Kupa clear. Yeah well this is pretty. You know if I input output and I think I enough to take us take his word and like well I mean either. He's right and I'm wrong or the opposite and I think he's been doing this longer than me. So I'M GONNA go with 'em being right. I know personally when I'm not in the sweet spot we got like it's like that's what I go back into our tub whereas like ooh my beds. You left your time ago. Talk to me again. Yeah how have your conversations with guide in the BATHTUB CHANGED? Since the pandemic it almost think they. I think they've gotten more frequent. Because I was saying here where we were outside. We were too busy forgot. It's like Oh yeah you get like you know my heart surgery. You know that you see how busy I am. Okay Google. I'm just sat down outside so I can get you attention. I've also found like just not even just in prayer but just like in life. This is the last few weeks the last month of lockdown. You sit still quiet enough in your own house. You start to just like also hear your past a lot more. I think so much of our life. Pre Corona was like. What is today? What is happening right? Now what is on my calendar today and something about the last few weeks where we're just out and about less. I Dunno you start to hear. Go from your pass and have to grapple with that in a new way and you have more stuff to talk to God about in terms of all that old stuff. Is You know my friend Debbie Brown Who's doing a lot of work with Deepak Chopra? She was saying that this is a divine time out and she called it like our times like excavate thing in us and I was like ooh excavations you dig it heavily. Several violent act business. Get the several this coming day. We got time for being we. We've let things Kinda simmer for far too long and this guy's not playing games with us. No more is we got. You gotta get excavate it yeah. I am curious Because I was raised pentecostal slash apostolic. How born again are you like? Light those candles fine those essential oils and enjoy chat with the hilarious bemoaned orgy watching you on insecure. The past few seasons I would bet a lot of folks given that role. Were not maybe right of the BAT. See you as a comic but you are well. The funny thing is I started. Think comedy so I was a comedian frozen actress and that's how east the person met me as a comedian yet and so. I think it's going to be funny to re introduce people to who I have always been now if I recall correctly from my reading up on you you. I did comedy as a talent during a patent. You're in that is correct. Miss Nigeria in America pageant. Oh my God I need you to tell the whole story. Play back weddings detail by detail. Because I'm just like this is goal. I mean I can't even imagine someone getting their comedy debut and a mysterious pageant. I love it already. Tell us the whole story well so I didn't clearly read the rules because I was in the middle of getting my masters and I was just busy tired and two weeks before they were like. Hey we after application. Were very excited. But you didn't list your talent and I was like because I ain't got one. What are we isn't the Badgen just like calm? Do A Walk Change outfits a couple of times and answer a question about how you would change the world given out like I got this come on give it s maiden suit in world peace. That's it. Yeah so she was like yeah. No you need a talent and out and that was so bad was like this is a pageant for Nigerians right. Because they know the only towns your tab are to like excel at school how we do that on stage like I will take the. I'll set on stayed. I was like you asked me any question. About cobain bonds. I got this like come on and so I was literally. I had nothing else to do. When I tell you. Sam I went to my room and prayed I was like God. I'm not about to look fool in front of all these people because Nigerians the toughest you I mean you know how I saw you know as a comedian you have different groups of friends that you can bring out to shows right you can have like. Your wife is super supportive no matter what it's like. Hey guys we're GONNA laugh. Clap we really just. Hey guys we're just here to support your black likes. She better be funny. Is this like out of the sheet. How funny you know and the Nigerians are like issues. Not Funny we go bit. Says it's like the Societa with this grant line just and so there's so much riding on this moment and if it doesn't work out is going to be a problem so I rehearsed my joke. Sound like I was like an actress like I did not leave any rule for laughter because I didn't know there would be so you know I my script answers like you. Just get through your copy. It was a model. I felt like it was a woman audition. Let me but Zuma's people were laughing and that was kind of mad. Because I was like messed me. He got the last was annoying to you. The last wild the did not know the INS and out of comedy. Tell me one of the jokes that you said. Oh my gosh. One of the joads joke about how African parents specialized in the two day. Delay backhand slap. And you gotTA UNDERSTAND. 'cause like they won't You'll do something and they won't immediately discipline you. They'll wait to you least expect it. They'll look at you in the light. Look you and then like where you're at the grocery store and they're like you have me degrees the grades it and then as you're reaching for the grades you gotTa Beckoned Slap. You like the head have asked you to do something like this. I found that my mother growing up she would love to save a spanking or whatever she would love to save it for public aid. She was like she was like wherever you show out. Dass around going show out and like I'll never forget. It was in sixth grade. Everyone in class had been cutting up so we all got pink slips and my mother was determined to give me my spanking in class in the non had to like. You can't do that Ma'am it's you have to go home my mom. I remember the most gangs. Their discipline was when she showed up in class and I was like talking to a boy by the lacquer and didn't realize he ended waiting in the car for like twenty minutes after working a full shift Bay Bay. She came in. Oh this is not going to end well for me. It's like hey you don't see me tomorrow Daddy I love it. I love it. It's also before we move onto other stuff. I totally forgot to ask you when one praise to God asking for a talent portion for Nigerian pageant when God says do comedy how does God say it? What were the words that were delivered to you from high the exact words? It wasn't even a full sentence. It was I always know when something's God versus me because it don't make sense like is when it's me I like yeah got all. The answer is probably slowdown when his got. I'm like so you're doing this on purpose. You're strategically not giving me all the answers. So I come back to you and I know you're always going to need me. You're always going to need me with this comedy thing because it wasn't your idea and I'm just like he's actually pretty smart getting on heaped pulling back time for a break coming up. You've chosen in the career. You've chosen a bit more now than she was before you know there's the whole immigrant parent be a doctor lawyer but you say now she'll tell folks home box office you're on HBO. She's proud of that like has she accepted. Yvonne the comedian and the actress. She has in a way that what most immigrant parents like wants to do. They WANNA be able to know what their child does and be proud at like. Share it with the community right. It's like if your child is surging. This thing he just did surgery on at twins and they separated the hats. You knows like wow. That's important like heartbeats were separating. How do you do this day? It's a wake rest of Brag right But when I say Oman I tell jokes for a living like so. You're a clown you're just like. What does that mean like? I can't brag about this. I don't even know what to tell my friends. And I think now that like at the her friends or like we just saw Yvonne on X. Y. Z. It's just like Oh wait. Other people are seeing my daughter. Other people approve of this situation. Let me think deeper look at. This community has received it. I think they can now receive it as like. Oh Yeah we are proud. We were to about that. We are proud the community because it's all out in the open. Everyone's good everyone's happy. Yeah they want the bragging rights. That's really what parents want it really. Is it really really really is? Which is harder for you? Stand up comedy. You're acting stand up comedy. Why acting someone else's writing these lines you know. You've got a whole group of writers who are creating the character you have everything working for you got lighting. You got gaffer's you gotta see partner. "Yvonne van made or twelve rounds it never stopped i could not contain them i couldn't measure and he gave me no chance to sets because i was the guy with skill to flip and to be cooler lip and never give me a chance rushed me he just kept on rushing and that is the blueprint that could beat him it is some very unlikely that he would follow this blueprint because he would have been training in the way he's been training and you can actually change your plan a doesn't work their way of keeping treatment particular way you will follow what you can do it you have to be a nutcase you have to be a map ma'am and i would say this also pads it would not be farfetched to say this to you i could be likened to the mayweather in 1995 okay and you can liken steve collins while two mcgregor in 1995 while there was no way this guy had a chance of beating me he just didn't have the talent the ability to skill the punching power because of that goes like spirit he was able to do the impossible ireland rejoice for months is i mean for months it was really something is that still wound that you possess i bet you is that still a wound the call and yes as though there is now no them snow if you're at peace a peace with a triumph.
