"So you grew up in Washington state and then you and your mother moved to Hollywood to pursue your dream of acting when you were sixteen and although it sounds like you lived out of the car, you have a lot of happy memories and look back at this time very fondly. What can you share one of those Happy Memories? Yes. So I was actually fifteen and a half and I saved that because you get your permit then you're right and so we were driving down my aunt had loaned US her car it was an oldsmobile cutlass supreme. Supreme and it was fancy. You know and I had these bear claw slippers that I would wear and I was wearing them on this drive down and so I remember my mom saying, do you want to drive My Bear Claw slipper, she does. Okay. So it was driving. down. I learned. By faircloth slippers like through that long stretch of desert. And you know again it's it's like you were saying it for me was I was embarking on this journey to follow my dream. My mom was taking all the worry you know we had seventy five dollars in an a gas card to live off of until either one of US got a job. But for me, it was just pure heaven. The scene that you just described to you as a young woman, a teenager in these slippers through a desert just like gunning the gas through a desert just like you know it's very Jane Bonds. Bonds exactly bonds backstory. Also I know that you rescue a lot of animals you love animals and you love especially dogs how many dogs live with you at any given time. Well, right now we have four, but we had Let's see four or five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. Ten dogs because we picked one up. On the remember the Super Wolf Blood Moon in two thousand there was like. We were driving on this break. Really why are you laughing? The funny thing to remember. Every people had t shirts like there was a branding moment a rabbit. Reviews on that exact day we were driving on this because we road trip everywhere because of our dogs. And our parents and we were headed back from Colorado to Los. Angeles and we were going through this long stretch of two hundred mile desolate highway and we stopped at the gas station and there was a dog that someone had dumped on the side of the road. It was twenty eight degrees and she was pregnant. So that jerk that did that. But it was a gift to us and she is wight and she has little red spots under her white hair. She looked like a super wolf blood moon. Fat and pregnant. So we called her moon. We put her in the car with all our other dogs and we drove back to Los Angeles in two weeks later she popped out nine puppies and we gave them all astral names COSMO Nova Jupiter. One of them Lubo after Wolf. And we found them all they stayed with us and we helped raise them for like. Twelve weeks and then found them all really good homes. Oh, that's amazing. Sadako spun things. I've ever done I'm not gonNA lie having puppies all real It's fast and parents we have to address parrots so I is. Before I would have I would never buy a parrot now especially just with my understanding. But as a teenager I bought I did a photo shoot like around sixteen. And the guy was so eccentric he lived in Hollywood in this apartment and he had parents all over and they were like flying and he would just go over and. Take one out and put it on shoulder and then another one here and went on his head, and he was photographing me with all these parents and I just thought that was the coolest thing and I had to get a parent. So of course, I didn't do any research like a teenager and well, sorry, not all teenagers. Most most yes and so I just went out and I bought an African Gray. which is supposed to be the best talker without realizing they live eighty to ninety years. Oh Yeah, and I it's good I got her when I was young. We're like we're going to have our live. We're GONNA live our lives out together, but she's hilarious and she has gone on location with me to France and Prague Canada twice and. She goes with me everywhere. All Right Hillary based on your love of dogs. We haven't asked me not challenge perfect for you. It's called swank dogs. I'll describe a luxury dog product or service. You just have to tell me is it real or something we made okay. All right. I'll do I'll give you the first one dog wine. Yeah. Doug Wine Company in Denver Colorado sells wine for dogs varietals include Zinfandel Shark Dugway and Malbork and eight ounce bottle cost only fifteen dollars real or fake I'm gonNA say because of those names, it's real without any alcohol clearly, you are absolutely correct it's real the company started with cat wine and then they expanded to doug wine well. What is it? Yes. Because it's a mixture of herbs meant to fresh and dogs breath and relax them Oh. Yeah. That's interesting. Herbs Will Colorado is a I think it's a state that thank you can have. Yet notice we shut that several years ago on actually Christian actually wrote that moving Christian keys actually real. Wow. Okay. So that was cool. When you know like you said, Eva was evil Pickford and I mean, that was a really fun movie to do that was Yeah. It looked like a lot of fun like I was always wanted like so you never know I guess and I'll get we'll. Get hopefully we can get a little secrets from you and and how you've got an industry but you never know when you're going to get another one of those projects but to me it was so cute I would have wanted a second one but you never know what's going on you know with that kind of stuff and you know that world and Hollywood and everything right? Right? No No, you know That wind just it was just that one note to self. Really what? Part to ever really created for it but right right Sometimes, we get the part to sometimes it's just like you know it's like even always a bridesmaid people keep asking. Is there going to be a part of this? You know no Yvette Nicole Brown wrote that movie and that. She's now. Made her thing we we should make our to we'll let you know what would Yeah Right. But yeah. So yeah, that's cool. But yeah. So you have a lot of a lot of products going, which is really dope because you kind of like I think it's really cool. your career by the way when I was researching because you, you're kind of you're kind of under the radar but not necessarily like your hat and stuff. It's just Hollywood had this weird way of like surveys out there as we know yeah, yeah. It's it's one of those things I think as we continue to go. Yeah we like let the work speak for itself. You know a lot right now what we do, they see what we do. We also consider ourselves in indy studio in meaning like we you know from locations to our resources out here in Los Angeles to the relationships we have with distributors in allowing ourselves to be positioned to where we still have ownership within our property that we create and collaborate with networks or distributors where we both owned The property together you know like. Fifty or or licensing deals where we bring in the capital two so that we have some crew you know more creative. Input into what we're making so that we'd contrite or read about the Dome of these projects is well. And do you feel guess going on what I was off the top? Do you feel because I feel in my opinion any projects could kind of give a rollback or or blueprint for how they could go about filming. 'cause I know everybody's been question is how are they going to finish a lot of these TV shows? You know how they're gonNA finish she's movies because you guys correct me if I wrong with you guys deal with on a daily basis. Okay. Budgets. How am I going to get this done with this little better? You know these amount of actors yeah. Yeah Yeah we look like we we always say we. We do our best to quality you know every new project, we just make sure we're growing and building and building level. We can make sure that are actors are excited about working but the big thing for us is given people rolls that they don't often get. As one of our things, you know when we cast, we look for opportunities to give people unique. Like we say, Hey, will you know what this person may be interested in his role because they've never done this before you know right earl instead of looking at somebody and say they will never do it. They may actually do it because they've never done it before it's kind of like the Halle Berry scenario with monster's ball right nobody. Yeah. That role because she was at the time is far will you know obviously, they didn't even consider her it first for this, but then our passion to play something. So different. Placed her into this situation. So it's a of actors here that are just always been putting by. So doing the same thing, you see them doing those same. Sometimes, they always win the same role. What's not good that they just want to do the same role that's what they're being presented to him. A lot of times will right take you flip it say, Hey, I know you do that. That's your bread and butter, but here's a scenario. May We pay half of what you get. But right right. But it now is going to show you the value. Is it for you something different so now you can walk away from this people can say, wow, I never see this person like that before which explain exactly. So it's about also giving people adding value that's what our world collaborative company we love like whether it's behind the scenes in front of scenes we're always in collaboration and making sure we have a win win scenario with everybody we work with but then when this covert scenario as you were saying. It's also about. You know we're we're about to go back into filming at the end of the month and.

"A thank you for that. And certainly my heart goes out to my home community where we've seen so many. Devastated economically and frankly from a healthcare perspective by this virus. Some advice I've given the president is in the healthcare front. We have to have more testing and more telemedicine. If you live in the rural parts of South Carolina black or white, the reality of it is getting to a doctor is harder than it's ever been, and frankly for a long time we folks don't come to the hospital and so telemedicine converged at gap. Gap and we need to make sure that the reimbursement rates are such that people will be able to afford use telemedicine as providers and letting people get there, so that's one of the pieces of advice is given to the president, the second piece of advice I've given to the president that as a former small business owner myself. We need to make sure that African American businesses are fully aware of the paycheck protection program we. We have about one hundred billion dollars left that we need to deploy I put into the legislation ten million dollars for the minority business development agency to market and minority communities, the fact that the paycheck protection program was alive and well and that we wanted to help businesses that loan becomes a grant, small businesses, barber, shops and beauty salons. landscapers are abundance in the African American community there. Some of the hardest working people you. You know and they need to understand and know that the resources are there. They don't have to pay back if they use it for overhead and for payroll, so getting that word out something that I suggested and reinforce the president as well as the secretary of the Treasury to make sure that we targets smaller minority institutions, so that the resources they're. The people know about it and that we can get those two fused together..

"The things that that you experience in your senior year and I wanted to take part because I wanted to remind them that. This is a special year. Not The only special year that they'll have and so they'll be other opportunities for them to be with friends and celebrate. But I wanted to let them know that I was standing in solidarity so I brought out the feathered hair. Y'All remember that hair a snack back eve we were talking earlier about Biden's VP. Pick and you had some opinions on that. I do like on the one hand. I'm a black woman so I do agree that it is time for black woman to be president or vice president. I believe that also though I feel like if he is going to not do that and he chooses a white woman it needs to be Elizabeth. Warren Everybody knows I Love Elizabeth Warren. But it's not just because I think she. Oh she's awesome. She is awesome but she's also who she appears to be. A lot of people in politics are not. She's actually a decent caring woman that cares about people and she has a plan for everything and she cared about people before she even ran for office. And that's important to realize that the greatest good she did so far was that the Consumer Protection Bureau and. She did that when she was a private citizen. So I think we need someone with that heart if we don't choose a black woman so I'm saying we got. We got our caller or one of color. Yes I'm black. I'm standing black people right now but yes a woman of color aides to those so yeah Tammy Duckworth you know there's all it's quite amazing when you start talking about you crazy you know you ju- I don't know not been mind. You know what I mean. There's so many s rising women that have not had a chance to lead and we really do lead very well so I would love that opportunity. Yes well you know women. We take all of this series. We don't play. We don't have time. We know how to do. Get stuff done and move the conversation.

"To see a robust approach to Early voting As related states that have it and then for reasons you can vote early and other states senator to all of those assuming president trump is doomed and twenty twenty just last week. Democrats lost a seat in California for the first time in twenty two years and they lost four publican who embrace trump in a district. That Clinton carried handily in two thousand sixteen. What is it about the president that you and many around the country see and that the media seems to continue to be missing? The ashes of the question is most often the media's not talking to anyone in rural America and they're certainly not talking to someone in South Carolina. That's a republican or most independence Frankly his support is without any question at least where it was before in those states Wisconsin Michigan and Pennsylvania is been a bit of a roller coaster but the enthusiasm numbers are significantly higher for president trump over vice president biden and fifty three percent high enthusiasm for trump in about twenty four percent for high. Hasn't for Biden when you take those numbers in expect a pretty strong recovery as we head into the summer and into the fall. You'll expect that this race will be very different than most of the prognosticators think today. But I said that two thousand sixteen when the New York Times called me and asked me to explain the day before the election. Why trump loss and I said I think he hasn't been to South Carolina. You certainly hadn't been monks corner. South Carolina It was pretty clear to me that most people were were in a different position. Thank you Senator Tim Scott Your Book. "Senator what also has been going on even though we we also know of course they're African Americans are disproportionately affected by covert nineteen. The shootings continue president. Trump last week evoked you while talking about the senseless killing of Ahmad Arvari. He says he called you. Ask what you thought of the case. Why didn't he call? Perhaps person from Georgia state representative in Georgia. Which is where this occurred. I think it's partially because after the CHARLOTTESVILLE ISSUE. I was fairly critical. The president really very critical the president's response and that really fortunate opportunity for me to go to the White House and talk about why I found this comments to be insensitive abet. Frankly opened the door of communication that I didn't expect to be opened. And since then he and I've had many conversations about providing more funds for HP see us. We're able to get a billion dollars. Each we see using the cares actor I focus focus on sickle cell. Anemia and I was able to get him to work with me. On value. Based arrangements that people could afford to have sickle cell treatment when comes available at a price that they could afford so when this issue came up with Ahmad it was just clear that the president I already had that relationship and I had put a call into the Department of Justice asking Attorney General Bar to go down there and get involved Nicole? Georgia's well spoke with Attorney General Car in Georgia to make sure that we took a look at the every episode of the transfer of the responsibility and the fact that the videos really clear that is murder one. Pm in the afternoon. I'm a black band that jocks to and I just thought to myself to carry gun everywhere. I go so frustrated by that video so frustrated by the lack of response for six weeks but I wanted the president understand my frustration and my serious concern that we cannot afford to go back to a James Bird Day in nineteen ninety eight or Emmett till one of the reasons why I pushed legislation two years ago and got a pass in the Senate around anti lynching we need to make it clear and evident that we shall not put up with this crap anymore and I wanted to president here my my thoughts on thankfully he called me that Friday evening and we had a serious discussion about it. I was in the White House this weekend. We talked about it again. I was in there last week and we talked about it again. I'm glad to see the Department of Justice is is is at least on the case and I did the same thing after the mother. Emmanuel shooting brought the attorney general down To pay attention to what's happening in so many parts of the black community I WanNa be the guy that has a relationship and uses it for the betterment of folks who are desperately need of a Justice System. That is actually.

"Yes most animals adapt because they have to but humans can adapt because they can make the decision to adapt and so how did I not die in my twenties. Drinking fifteen to twenty beers a day eating chillis Tommy Burgers at two o'clock in the morning. How did I well because my body adjusted to that and but at a certain point I quit that my body adjusted to a different upright you can't go back right so consistent consistent behavior body will adjust a consistent behaviors and whether that's toxic or not or clean foods whether that's toxic or clean thinkings whether that's like whatever it is true and you know we do? I think a lot of our lives thinking that we're sort of led around by life but we are making micro choices everything you don't even realize don't realize and so it's even if you can incrementally improve your choices and make better decisions visions and force yourself to like I'm feeling a lot of negativity and I'm gravitating toward negatively. Can I force myself to think a couple of grateful or PAS writings a day and it's work and you don't feel like it feels better right to feel depressed and sad added on a couch and just like playing games or whatever it is that you're trying to distract yourself from your feelings you know the long-term effects of figuring out and I'm not saying I'm great at it but I try trying but the long-term effects of it's just it's not that what you don't get from it is always the instant gratification. You're really trying to teach your brain to play the long game but I think your brain is almost always will tell you to do the instant gratification two percent and you have to learn so you don't have to listen to that well. That's learned today. Learn but yeah but you also have you also get preachy but you don't. I like preachy. I don't you know if you try to take on broad sweeping change and all like Oh my God. If I change is my what am I gonNa have to do month. From now is what is the just get through whatever you can get through in a day just want just one day to this one day to time Lhasa thinking apply to anything else in the world. It's good stuff that you don't have to take on all of your. You don't have to think like well if I start exercising today four times a week and then I'm going to do this and then don't just what can you do today thirty minutes. What box can you check today for you napping Napster Great? That's why I think you might like him because you should do it twenty minutes in the morning and then twenty minutes sometimes incentives you yes yes it clears your mind centers. There's you and it it takes you to a restful place that is like I think more beneficial than just sleeping in the afternoon and you only do in twenty minutes and you feel refreshed and just starts to kind of like I'm GonNa try getting. Can you give you I'll I'll send you to the David Lynch Foundation or I learned how to do these yeah. They're very very nice. I mean it like it it. Also it shows you that you know you never really know what people people are going through. No one does that's true if I if I were to look at your I would say a vet is is the the happiest strongest will joyful beam of light universe. I and that's true and you forget that everyone's human and everyone has struggles and through stuff. I think that I think everybody has a natural set point. I think my natural set point is joy. I think that <hes> I saw enough as a kid to realize that you you know things can get better right <hes> and so anytime in something where it feels like Oh this sucks. I always know that it can get better. I'm not saying it will but it can so my natural set point. Even if I'm really down or or Matt or whatever the negative things things are I can always did. It's always gonna go back to Santa. Come out. That's just naturally might necessarily so <hes>. It's it's the struggle comes in when I try to to help other people get to that place because for me. Kindness makes sense. It's easy it's not to be hateful to people is hard for me like I. I feel like a are in my gut. If I am mean to someone on purpose there's other things I say. Sometimes I'm sure that people that was rough. 'cause I'm very blunt <hes> and in my mind <hes> because decency and kindness is easy. If I see someone that is willfully being jerk. It makes you go but I need to might my dad. I always say this to me. have some patients for US meal mere mortals. He would say that all the time because it's like it's good that God gave you a measure of decent seeing knowing what right from wrong but other people are trying to figure it out so give them give them a little cult space for them so they can walk in and take a look around and go okay. Let me figure this out you you none of us arrive here knowing it all and even the ones that have been given a certain amount of kindness or grace or intellect whatever that's a grace gift gift. That's not your birthright. That's not something you earn. That's literally God going. I'm going to still you with teleprompter skills beshear. It's not something coming out to you right so walking around puffed up because you're kind is is not God's will either so I've had to check myself sometimes and be like you know let's calm down a little bit and and an extensive grace to people and help people walk through things and also realize that you haven't figured it all out either well. It's it's also like the idea of giving irving people spaces is a really wonderful thing but it's very difficult to create space when you only have two hundred forty characters right the the platform itself provides no space no spence. Nobody's reading it three. Nobody got to read three you know and it's just all emotion and emotionally reactive and it's just becoming an extension of our emotional emotional brains which you know like our brain is designed to have emotions but then filter them and then figure out you know how to to present those coming out immediately ending and results in the brain and it comes through the fingers. I'll tell you what I I'll tell you. What I'm I'm jealous? View in one tell us about this is going to sound very strange. Okay let's do it. I'm jealous of your faith punk and you've said that to me before. Why what is it because I I? There's just something where I you know and maybe this is a recovering addict kind of thing where I just you know where it's like. I want to be able to fix everything and sometimes it's very difficult to just let that go and say whatever it is not that you have to believe in <hes> an old man with the white beard sitting on cloud right you know even if even if the even if in the releasing of stuff is just that hey you know what it's not my responsibility to control the world around me. Can I can only control respond to the world. That's my domain is is sort of that faith that hey you know what no matter what you'd be okay fine. The world's find you know what I mean in that but let me ask you this. Haven't you found that to be true true though think about your life well I mean when you when you if you were to get to the if you were to get to be a ninety year old person who looks back alive and go all the things I stressed about like ninety nine percent. None of them did not come to fruition right but guess what you can do that at twenty five you can do that at forty five. You can do that a fifty five because everyone at some stage in life. Especially people are aging. I'm not saying either by both look thirty nine thirty to thirty so at thirty ready to you and I have endured a lot now. It's not we haven't been to war. There's things like that. We haven't endured but we've had heartbreak should have had opportunities that didn't come around. We have this entire business. He's playing. We're here today in this beautiful booth you know at Tartus. We're GONNA Tartus retarded. We are discussing life and right now. Everything is okay so anything we stressed about six months ago or eight months ago it. It all tipped back to the okay right so we've had enough experiences of things tipping back to the okay to really understand that until that last thing there's one thing in this life is going to kill us. Each of us is one thing until that thing. You're going to survive everything else. That's what I hope everyone is able to do. Who is you know? Look back at things. They were stressing about two years ago if they can even remember Oh yeah that thing that thing at work that I was scared freaked out of that thing with my you know that Thanksgiving that I was terrified when my family oh that never are you know Oh this name you know I went to the doctor and I was Oh that never right. You know I mean it. I talked to my mom at this all the time 'cause she hates. My mom is like my mom so resilient and so amazing. She hates going to the doctor actor if she gets sick or anything like just tall the doctor now I don't want to I don't I don't want you gotta you know in all the Times you when I think about all the one I used to be afraid of flying all the flights I stressed out you know and they were fine. They were fine and think about. I've actually been a doctor who quote I don't know maybe it was dr who but it's like. Oh no might have been sherlock. I can't remember anyway yeah. It was something about you know. Are you freaked out that we're going to that. We could die and it's like why would you wanNA to die twice. You know what I mean. Why Really GonNa be Sherlock or doctor doctor right but nobody it's true though and so what faith is is the realization that all those other things didn't take you out so what you're facing right now probably won't either right and so it's literally going? I'm survived this <hes>. It's GonNa suck the whole time or most of the time but I'm going to survive it. That's just that's just life and then it is and think about it like this. Can you trying to explain in faith in another way. You remember when you were kid and even if you you didn't really worry about what you were gonNA eat for dinner. You didn't worry about whether you're going to have you know <hes> umbrella to go to school the next day there's certain things and it depends on where you are on the poverty scale what I just said but for most kids they haven't understanding that their mother or dad or whoever's their caregiver is going to take care of them like I'm GonNa be fine. I'M GONNA have some food at some point. I'm having a little bit of shelter. I'm a bus is GONNA come in the morning and it's GonNa take me to school. My teachers are going to teach me something. You have a real understanding. You don't spend a lot of time for the most part as a kid going right whereas my next mail come unless you reward us a different thing so that's really what faith is as walking through life is the understanding that I don't know how this is going to happen but I know someone does right and that someone is different for different people for me as gotten Jesus. Everybody knows that but it's different every every person but it's the understanding that I don't have to you can choose distress about this. I choose to worry about this or I can't believe because my favorite scene this shows faith is Indiana Jones <hes> you know when he takes that leap of faith and he literally his if he does not take the step his father's going to die right after get in their gotta find the the the child do it so he lets all of his stuff. Go and he's like I might be about to die but I'm going to believe that I'm not and he takes the step and it's there. That's literally what faith is. It's not seeing it not even be able to them like I'm in faith right now. I don't have a job right. I'm in between jobs right now. I'm believing that something will come for me but I don't know what that's going to be but I know that it's going to be okay. I love that you know I love that and you know like going back to the to the being being a kid thing. I know that there are things that my parents sheltered me from like when I was growing up my parents went through some horrible Financial Times in my dad eventually like got a like found some and he had no money himself he'd found some investors and bought the Bowling Center and Memphis which is still there which is still there. It's been there thirty state years thirty seven years and I wasn't so much later when I was a very much an adult my dad had said Oh if the day that I got the keys to the day that we signed the deal for the mowing center. He said if that hadn't happened. I didn't have enough money to buy McDonald's that day for us to have dinner and I never knew that my new errands just I sheltered me from all that you know and I didn't. I had no idea you know and I guess if I were to look back. I was like Oh my God. Yeah we went through a really you know like had parents had to sell stuff off to keep afloat and and somehow it you know it worked out now. That's not to say that you know I don't know I don't know what the what's the dividing line between being delusional and to Pollyanna and and having that faith that things are gonna because sometimes things aren't okay for Bible but yeah maybe in the moment but they always are eventually right. It's almost like you know you're in the middle of winner and you cold old and you got your snow boots on the Carson Life as you're walking in it right guess what's coming Spring <hes> so.
