"Hello. I'm Hillary Howard. And I'm Sean Anderson. Thanks for being with us. Now we've got the latest developments from Ukraine, as the second year of this war has started, there are many questions about what's going to happen. Joining us live in the studio, the adviser to Ukraine's minister of defense, Yuri sack along with double DT open national security correspondent JJ green JJ started off. That's right. Yuri, this is the second year as we've said. So what's changed? What's going to happen as this year starts for Ukraine in this war? We all hope in Ukraine that this was the first and the last grim anniversary of this large scale invasion. During the last 12 months, we have shown to the world that we're resilient with the turn to fight for freedom. And one thing I want to tell you while here on a visit to Washington, D.C., I wanted to find the answer because I get the question very often, you know, why should, for example, Americans worry about what is happening in Ukraine. Why should American taxpayers be concerned about supporting Ukraine? So in search of that answer, I and my colleagues, we went to the Arlington cemetery, and we've seen that answer right there. So 400,000 tombs on our cemetery. And I saw with my own eyes that this is a nation that knows that freedom comes at a price. This is a nation the American people are standing with Ukraine because they can relate to what it takes to fight for freedom. And this is what we are doing. We're not fighting just for some cities in Ukraine. We are fighting for our common values for our shared value. This is the freedom war. And we are so grateful to the American people for standing with us. It's kind of extraordinary to consider the sacrifices so many people have made there. Can you talk about personally what it's been like for you to see those losses? I try not to think about this because it's a bit overwhelming. But I can tell you one thing, 12 months from now, every time I see the news of a new house destroyed or new casualties on the front lines of people killed by Iranian drones, it breaks my heart and you have to we all have to pull ourselves together and break through because if we allow emotions to overrun our mind, it gets in the way. So we have to stay focused because we want to win in 2023. We must end this war. This is priority number one. And for this, I would like to use this opportunity to stress that we can win this world. We've shown that we can beat Russia on the battlefield Russia as a paper Tiger who will be defeated. But it will be defeated sooner if we get things like long-range missiles at the camps and fighter jets F-16s. Yuri, we're going to have to leave it there, but we thank you so much for joining us here in good luck as you continue in your effort here in Ukraine. Thank you, Sean. Thank you guys. Bloomberg radio on demand and in your podcast feed. On the latest edition of the tape podcast, a conversation with Matt lucetti of Deutsche Bank. I think the trend of the recent data is with up for revisions. A lot of momentum in the economy. A lot of resilience in the economy and the labor market and less disinflation than the fed thought at the February meeting. So inflation looked like it was slowing down pretty quickly from the June headline CPI peak of 9.1%. And what's the idea now that we've slowed at around 6 and we're not getting any lower? Yeah, I think I would focus on these three month changes because it strips out the very high prints that we saw early last year. And I think the revisions there have been really important. So core CPI looked like on a three month change, it was decelerating down to 3.1%, getting closer to the level that's consistent with the fed's objective. That was actually revised higher by more than a percentage point. And then with this latest data, you have a three month annualized change for core CPI that's four and a half, 4.6%. Very far away from the fed's objectives. I do think as we see core PC tomorrow and be closer to 4.4, four and a half percent. You've seen some disinflation were off the peak, but the latest data tell us that the path here is an easy. It's not just continued disinflation. We're likely to see somewhat higher in print over the next few months. So Matt, smart guys like you, are you taking the recession call off the table? I'm not sure if you had a recession call but are the economists in general taking that recession call off the table, do you think? We've always had a recession call, but it's always been the back half of this year. Okay. It is in Q four for us right now. I think the latest flow of the data fits well with that type of timeline. And it fits well with that because look, the economy has good momentum now. The idea that it's going to fall into a recession in Q one or probably even Q two doesn't seem very likely

Now, we have said a long time ago that with the courage and determination of the Ukrainian armed forces, we were able to and of course with the help of the military assistance that we received from our allies, we were able to stabilize the front and we are now getting ready for our counter offensive, which we hope will begin soon. Now, because our military objective remains the complete the occupation of Ukrainian territories and restoring peace in Ukraine as well as in Europe. So the tanks, the tanks, which will be provided to Ukraine by the tank coalition, international tank coalition will be instrumental in helping Ukrainian army break through the defense lines of the enemy on the temporary occupied territories and we are seeing that the tanks, the first tanks are already on their way. And we hope that the tank coalition will continue stepping up their efforts and sending us more. To move out another year in this terrible war, can those tanks drive to Crimea? Do you perceive a linkage of what Kyiv wants on Crimea with what the allies want on Crimea? I think the key and allies are aligned when it comes to the situation with Crimea because everybody recognizes that Crimea is an internationally recognized territory of Ukraine, which has been illegally annexed in 2014. But when it comes to the actual format in which Crimea will be returned to Ukraine, our military will take that decision when it comes and most probably it will be a mixture of diplomatic efforts as well as military. Yuri I'd appreciate your insights on how close we are to the west providing jets to Ukraine. Do you think we're approaching that moment? We are pushing for the fighter jets on a daily basis. Our minister of defense, our president, everyone from the political and military leadership. And we understand that these are sophisticated platforms that require the training of pilots, the training of engineer crews, they require logistics, so it's not going to happen overnight, but we are doing everything we can on our side to facilitate this process because fighter jets are the last remaining hurdle and they will be instrumental in helping French victory which we hope will be this year. Yuri how long do you think that would take to train pilots and make that kind of thing operational? Well, we are in a different situation ordinarily training pilot stakes about a year. If not more, but we are in a situation where first we already have pilots who have combat battlefield experience and our pilots are ready to be trained in three to 6 months. They will be ready to fly these platforms. Mister sack, it's simple. You need material as well as I asked our Maria today and keep an hour ago. Tell me about the manpower of your defense ministry. Do you have enough soldiers? It always comes down to infantry, doesn't it? The state of the Ukrainian infantry. Indeed, we are armed forces are we have sufficient reserves and of course the reason why we are in a better position than our enemy whose military capability has been degraded by the Ukrainian armed forces during the last 12 months significantly is because we are not using our soldiers as canon for that. We are not using them in the mid grind tactics. We are fighting a smart war and we have a high regard for our personnel. So we take smart decisions and this allows us to maintain the sufficient number of troops. And of course, when necessary, if we mobilize more people, but for now we are ready for any development and we are ready to continue the occupation of Ukrainian territories. Give us an update on the Black Sea Mario pole was just horrific 8 9 months ago as well discuss the state of the Black Sea as you enter your two of this war. Well, as you know, the Black Sea now there is the Russian Black Sea fleet in the Crimea and Sevastopol. So Russia and Russia continues to control what happens in the Black Sea. But of course, we will continue building up our military capability. And this is why we are asking for longer range missiles because they will be helpful in terms of helping us achieve our objectives deeper into the enemy's territory and making sure that Black Sea is safe as well as for things like grain deal, the supply of agricultural products from the Ukrainian territory, which was of concern to the international community for a long time. You are in the United States as committed tens of billions of dollars to support Ukraine and the war effort in your country. There are some concerns where you are in Washington about the misappropriation of some of those funds. How are you allowing some of those concerns? We are implementing when it comes to the Ministry of Defense since almost day one of this war. We were implementing, for example, the procurement systems which are of NATO standard, the so called for example, log fast system. So these are the same systems as I used by all NATO member countries. And of course, we are improving them on a daily basis. And of course, the Ministry of Defense is open and welcomes always our counterparties from different ally countries to come and visit and see that for themselves. Everything we receive goes straight to the battlefield and is used efficiently thereby our army. So when it comes to transparency, we are open.

Hey JJ, those fighter jets Ukraine's been asking for. Is the country any closer to getting them? They believe they are. Facts said to me, and we spoke just a few minutes ago that they realized they're not just getting fighter jets. They're not just getting machines or they're just not asking for that. They're asking for training. And it's important to note that when you get fighter jets, just like getting those other weapon systems that they ask for, the patriot missile system, there are other people and resources and support that have to come along with it. So if you get a fighter jet, there's a pilot for the fighter jet. There are another 25 to 30 people that have to be trained that has to be put into the system. So what Zach said to me is they believe they're getting closer, even though they're machines have been agreed on to send there. They will either get in closer to satisfying what's necessary to get the whole package, including the planes, the pilots trained and the support as well. JJ, thanks. The U.S. and our NATO allies are committing to send additional shipments of heavy equipment to Ukraine. But tanks are still not on the list. "During a meeting today in Germany, the NATO allies did commit to sending more military equipment to Ukraine, but not tanks. Yuri sack and adviser to Ukraine's defense minister tells Bloomberg, tanks are what they really need.
