"Digesting the food. So that's why it's connected to the small bowel. What it means to have a pancreas. Transplant is not to take the old one out and put a new. Actually the old one stays in. The surgery is fought. away from the old pancreas. And the old pancreas continue to function and help the digestive system so that functionality has not all will not be changed or altered by the pancreas transplant. The pink The organ that's been. Transplanted will mainly be for diabetic controls or blood sugar treatments. It will not provide any digestive Benefit to the patients. Sorry you actually taking pancreas from someone else who is deceased and transplanting. It in as we might with another organ correct. So any united states and in the world a living pancreas. Transplant is not something is popular. So mainly it said. Deceased pancreas transplant. So we take the organ from a deceased donors and the organ comes with a piece actually of the small bowel of the Donor and that get attached to this mold. Bowel of the recipient in the front part of the abdomen and also the oregon will be connected in terms of the blood flow The pancreas should receive a blood flow from in small anastomosis with a patient circulatory system and it drains also through the vena system Technically you will not be able to feel it even though i'm saying it's in the front of the abdomen but it's still inside the abdomen but in front means it's away from the native organ the you will not be able to feel it or touch it or say. Hey i have a pancreas transplant. No that's not the case. It'll stay inside the abdomen and Hopefully it will cure. The diabetes can be you mentioned about type one and type. Two diabetes are transplants appropriate for both types. The idea of transplant actually is to cure diabetes. So so far we do have so much advancement. I think into the here all the technology all the pump. The glucose monitor all these systems. And i like to call the pancreas transplant. Or the paintcare says an oregon is an organic pump so rather than have mechanical pump. That actually does a great job but we all need to remember that. The the mechanical pump does not cure it. Control the organic pump. Which is the transplant. It does cure so my patients a lot of time. Get they will have a really hard time understand the concept that they not diabetic anymore and we have really hard time for with some of them to get them to stop checking their blood sugar cozine. They've been suffering from this disease for a long time and they still use to check their blood sugar with a finger and we tell them you not diabetic. So in two thousand. If i remember correctly eighteen or nineteen around that time the yunos which the organization that regulates who is candidate and who is not or give recommendations in the united states for organ transplant took that terms from the candidacy recommendation. Meaning type one and type two so there is no difference when it comes to transplant between type one and type two. The only major factor is is the patient using insulin..

"Tell the seattle is going to win. Oh jewell loyd brianna stewart or both going at it for this. Mvp race because stew. We head seventeen. Jim had sixteen. They both had you know a couple of rebounds and three assists apiece and it was going back and forth like oh. Who's gonna who's going to do this. But they both got taken out so early ever had a chance to go to go for. And who's gonna take. Mvp home and so you kinda just went well. I guess we'll default this. You might because she kinda. You might the most win the game mattered. Know well gee also walked out with four steals and three blocks. I think she had offensively but she had a great stat line. But i would've loved to see that that development more between teammates for five grand love to see more of that noble queen's got to be looking at the statue and the number that is widening. Your is the most is. She didn't have to play anybody more than thirty minutes she like. Where do i get some more. This like go to buy more like this. Is the package right here. How do i get magma gore. Twenty one minutes again. Yeah like like the spread is like on money with what she would want to do in a perfect scenario and i think as you look at it that was helpful with with their strings things because more than anything. I came out of this going like. What's the storm go. What are going to look like over the next couple of weeks here. i wanna see they. Do they have a five or six game road road trip coming right out of this like they don't they don't see the state of washington still for some time and some of these people are nearly fresh off the plane from tokyo. I think they'd set on the commentary that sue bird even mentioning like she may take a little time on like she may rest bit. I totally get it like but luckily they were able to conserve. A lot of su only played eighteen minutes tonight which by the way eighteen minutes ten points five assists for goodness sake. Great showing. she's she's already get yourself prime for twenty twenty four. So i'm kidding. That's that's who said she was. No i think there was a lot those tell you about been jonquil came out with the double double just cool and there was a lot in the second quarter between the seams. That was very fun and very interesting and we got to keep in mind. If connecticut gets there too. I f buzzer-beaters up in time. Five point game at the half. It's a different story. Hold the princeton review. They hit two half court shots at the first and second quarter. That were both late in. If the manage to go up time we may be having a very different chat and heideman was hit. The first one right i. If i'm remembering correctly it was significantly lately. it was. It wasn't even a question. Oh no it was. That was that was a. She just flipped it up. She flipped that up out of like. What's over do that three seconds earlier. You know you know what i mean. The other one was definitely late but it definitely was frustrating. Because the hard camp didn't even paying too so you had to wait until the showed her a different replayed actually see it go in but i was like everyone's acting like that went in but definitely it's definitely late but it was one of those those happen to go up in time and they still go in it. We're looking at a potential five point game and we may be having a different shat because connecticut. Obviously they type things up at eleven early on but there were a couple of cases where they were down eleven or twelve and they cut it down to five or six. They were able to find ways to to get themselves competitive begin and it just felt like the legs. Were quite there in the third quarter. Just you know what. Let's and i think one thing that speaks heavily for this is it. Felt like it was getting out of their hands. This game doesn't have any effect or implication on the regular season doesn't affect statistics it doesn't affect standings in any way race is going to change their record by any stretch and there's a party that is kurt miller that might think like i might just try and knock it. Anyone hurt like this is a. I know that my team is very talented. If we wanted to fight to close this out maybe yunos because we have that talent with the last thing i need is for glorified exhibition game to be what ruins the whole season by getting downer or one of the joneses injured. Yeah exactly because we went. We've been five weeks. And if i suddenly pushing junk while the play thirty five minutes. I really put a lot of things. That wrist one. Less thing i'll bring up about this about this game is i really really really really want one of those hats that rules the heads that seattle had it feels like a take on the twenty fifteen twenty sixteen championship at the orange ones. Yeah it's got that feel to. It's a wonderful hat. I'm not fully in love with the white titled t shirt but it's a good design but that plays absolutely. The hat is fantastic. It's very very good. So wonderful restroom. That's pretty well it what we've got. As far as as the commissioner's cup. We could have done a major breakdown if this was a little bit closer or more of a game and it just wasn't but i do. There was a question that came in through our twitch chat a little bit earlier that i think applies well to this and this kind of transition us into the this last portion of our show here. Yes as we're gonna talk kind of the rest of the season looking forward we. We did some midseason awards. We did some midseason grades for each team many to the award so hit those super heavy. But there's a couple of topics that i think would be good to just cover super-quick. The first one is kind of has to do with what you were just talking about. It says even though this game this comes from our good friend anymo- ninety nine here on on twitch even though this game does not impact stats. "So you may have heard. There's been a little bit of news valve of announced thing now. We mentioned steam powell in the past which was co the was used internally but it seems that the new thing is called steam deck. And it's an overweight. Intendo switch a a little bit of a chat about it the basics. You can pick this up anywhere. It's a portable game console with seventy screen. And it's basically a pc in a fat nintendo switch form factor right. That's that's basically isn't it basically. It's called it's called you. You think of when you you think of an intense which has got big touch in the middle is go controls and handles either side. They're not detachable like they always the switch but also like with this which you can dock it to cabled and monitoring other peripherals if you choose to. Yeah when i first saw it. Put me in mind of the atari lynx. Okay well i had an atari lynx back in the day and that was monstrously large. When compared to something. Like a gameboy or a sega game gear. It was significantly longer. It was much bigger device. I i wonder if it's called the stream deck because it kind of resembles the deck of a skateboard or the decorate ship. Leisure buttons like marks. But i mean the gaping here is it's valve selling hardware last two things that they sold. You could argue whether they were successful as marks the steam controller and the steam link which steam link eventually they were selling for like a pound of shot and he could pick him up. I'll go to one in the mountains one in the bedroom and got forced in control of. So i'm i'm a paid up val- family clearly a having bought all of this hardware if you guys bought previous valve hardware would you. Would you buy. Consider buying mole valve hardware yet. As i mean as. I've waxed lyrical about on the show. I'm a big fan of the state neutral. And i use the steam link as my primary setup for gaming i have my elsewhere where it can make all of his heat and noise not in the lounge and then i play on the big. Tv yeah and similar to you. Allen i've got to proper steam links you know the ones that valve actually produced and i have three steam controllers To use a. I use to those with sting links in various places and i've made another one out of a rouse pre pie since they released it. Full the software justice software. I think there's something they missed with the steam link. I i really thought they would go down the cloud gaming moment that you would be able to just sit in your lounge and not have a pc at home and just do the the. Nintendo nintendo the nvidia shield xrays. You know that all of that kind of thing but with a finger. Because he's on the italian controller. They kind of did that. They did partner with nvidia in order to integrate. Yunos staying into the nvidia shield and all that stuff. Not i mean. They made a piece of hallway. This it's tally. The next next logical step for me was cloud gaming. Seemed like yeah. Maybe not so. They made this thing in three. They call them skews There's a sixty four gig. Emc storage to five six gig nba and a half a terabyte. Envy me which also sports semantically screen..

We'll get we'll get to that later on not quite literally bought. That doesn't make a bit good the already. It's just so beautiful. Beautiful things happened here too much. Yeah anyway we'll get onto that story behind the anyway ebb. Today stays the wine. The wine trial. That time trustees. We're going to hear from wine fan. Luke thurbers elizabeth later on going to hear from some other writers as well. It wasn't quite the stage we had lost year am the penultimate stage of lassie's two fronts. The time charlton la plunged fee the incredible turnaround of course rogue lich looking. Like he was gonna win the tiny pug hr and turning things around and now today. He woke up really. All you had to do was get ryan safely. Really and he was going to win is going to win his second third fronts and the question is suppose. We're going to be asking tonight. And tomorrow is are we now in the jar. Era is paul year. We're going to hear from a couple of writers on that billy thrown. It was the the the interest in today's time. Trial was really am. I did buy the imminence of the olympic games in tokyo. Think and when we spoke to venar on the fresh recipe he said that he was going to finish the tour and this was a major focus for him because it was a dress rehearsal for the olympic games and judging by his promise that he won the time trial by twenty one seconds out of casper green who also been a great performance on our show today that he might be the favourite for the gold medal. In tokyo's fair. I think so and i think it was very important like you said fahim to go into tokyo with confidence you saw. He lifted all out they. We will rot on the finish line in the mixon there where he came. Pass still holding the spade from the tom. Trawl which was probably three hundred off. The lawn flipped around and then as he got to his one year. Pretty didn't seem to hear you shouting while. But i'm for a quick word. We knew he d come back. He didn't come back to me. He came back to where he collapsed over the baas Go to bottle. Puerto rico that sane. You often see on. Tv of gosh. Give their all. I need the bottle rod in that moment of. I can imagine it myself coming five from the lawn. You just thinking. I can just do it. I can get there and you could see emptied the tank absolutely everything so that was really interesting. I know it's an obvious decided. You know they emptied the tank to win the rice but really was interested in seattle on that all that had to commit so-so march to get that victory today which is very important only for the tour to franz but also think going ahead for the olympics just around the corner quite contrast last year for him as well remember the famous picture of him and tom dumoulin standing arms crossed the watson disbelief as rogue lich can lost the third of france before their eyes and and those two is well. Both great time. Trials were surprised by so much by On the day am yeah. Is quite striking quite shocking. Almost to see state that was in As he's came to a whole The heat of factor today but he really did empty himself and Inquire estate beyond the finish line within kabbadi store fronts. I mean e one of the stage with to climb onto the climate said. He discovered that even with his father in that area. It came second in bern sprinting. Windsor wins the final time trial. What what what can you accept win. The tour i mean he was an exceptional performance. Same for casper as green them in yunos. Secondly was there every day a leading. Well not lead. Yes kind of leading the first part of the of the cabinet train you went into breakaways and is still you know strong enough at the finish of at the end of the tour to to produce the performance did because finishing twenty one seconds behind while now today was was amazing and same by yours vinegar. We'll talk about it a little bit later. But no i mean you know a var at the absolute leaks exceptional tool of franz. We wondered if it'd be a day for time trial specialist you said last night. Mitch that They you know the stefan kuhn that we saw today might be very different to the staffer including that we saw stage five and the time trial. You spoke to him at the finish. We'll hear from him a bit later on. But he as a respectable fourth on the day. Your teammates stefan faith another specialist tiny pocket char only eight from the date. 'em you didn't feel that he was getting all their. I think it was important for him to just get through the stage safely and he finished fifty seven seconds down on what venar finger goal. Definitely worth a mention again. Wrote a really good time. Trial am onstage. Five am all time ago and again today. Third you know. He's really impressive because he saw slight to look at 'em is almost incredible. We wrote the time trial this morning. We'll check to see if we'd be any of the right you press lot moment. Run across the long. Yeah yeah. I mean i had the sense of our average speed esma. Chevette has lost on the day. That's why he didn't look particularly happy and bought chavez if you're listening some consolation 'em that you went you went faster than we did on the time trump course. We felt writing it was it was a kind of specialist. Course wasn't it did feel pretty fast. Felt quite pass on your wheel. Eighteen years the road surfaces amazing Montana's was a lot of roads pain. Ray todd but It was. It wasn't healy but there were quite a lot of gradual sort of drags. It was strongman's course like a specialist and then it was a beautiful course actually. It was a really beautiful region and one of one of the most. If not the best one region i've ever written through very lovely rose and i was sore surprises morning. I was at a little bit earlier than you at seven. I am this morning that the course was set up with people ready as if the rice was coming in one hour tom at seven i am could not believe it. Well, you know what? You're welcome. Happy New year Happy New year and I can't wait for the old norm to come back. Yeah, me too. Me too, but I was right. But, um, getting back to the original E. I called to two things. You ain't gonna believe who he was a role model to another singer. I know if he's been covered yet or not, But that was Brian Wilson was trying to be the equivalent Phil Specter. He had a little bit of mental pumps were not meant to. That's true he was abused when he was growing up my father, Mary Wilson. And so if Jack's makes a lot of the other regimes all in fact, uh, Brian Wilson less lost the hearing in his left ear because his father hit him upside the head. You're very abusive to Brian, but But speaking of Phil Specter, Reminds me of what happened with another man that I looked up dates like other people. Folly did that Phil Specter and that was There was this man in the religious world, OK? He was like he was not really a god that you know, he like he could do No wrong for me. We all have those kind of people. But And that was there was a time when there was an auditorium, our stadium in the world that would hold the people and he came to town. That was Jimmy Stragglers. Maybe the PR he is because of the Jerry Lee Lewis. He was on top of the world, man. Nobody could touch him. Okay. He sold more records than any other gospel music artist in the history of gospel music and everything like that, you know, record him, but when he fell Yeah, Everybody thought he was in like the anti Christ. Remember that very well. He was caught with a prostitute. He was going to have sin. Me. I remember that very well. Oh, yeah. And you know, his family really went through Donnie's his son, His Donny, his son, Donny striker went through that whole family plans and everything. But guess what, Brother? I love his music, so no one could play the piano here. They're here. You know someone's good at their craft, and you make it look so easy. Jerry Lee Lewis complaining Pretty good too pretty well, too. Yeah, I know what your science Yeah, they made it look so easy. They felt like I could do that. And then of course, when we tried, we don't just like broad being a host of a show that I've talking on right now. You make it look so easy, brother. But guess what? No, no. And so Phil Specter was like that. Who do you know aside from? Maybe Brian was he comes just a little bit closer to Phil Specter. But knowing and the thing about it is when they do it, they're joined doing it. They like they say if you're doing what you love, you're never worked a day in your life that Phil Specter was Here. I mean, given we all have flaws, Okay, We're all broken. But guess what? We're good at one thing, and we do it better than anyone else. And that's what he did. He did..

Lost luggage: How lifesaving organs for transplant go missing in transit

"Roughly four years more than seven percent of shipments have transportation tation problem and when we count that up that included nearly one hundred and seventy organs that never got transplanted and almost three hundred and seventy that were delayed between two to twelve hours. This isn't a full picture. The data is from just one government contractor that moves human organs around. But what do you think I mean. Do those is number surprise you they horrify me. You're talking about hundreds of organs that have been recovered donors and their families. That have made this amazing gift and then they either don't make it in time and quite literally or thrown away or even the numbers. You mentioned al about getting there late if an Oregon comes hours later. Let's let's be clear. That has an implication for that patient. They could die year sooner because that organ was stuck on a plane or in transit. And they'll never ever no no one currently tracks Oregon's should there be someone doing this. Should there be a government agency that that looks into that. Well you know there's A. There's there's a web of organ procurement organizations or Opie owes than around the country. They're responsible for a lot of the tracking and then there's a government contractor. That's supposed to oversee all those fifty. The eight other government contractors. That's called Yunos and you know clearly. Something is going wrong if we're losing hundreds of organs a year Either because they've been thrown away or because they've gotten there so late that it's also going to affect patient outcomes and you can talk to surgeons. I talked to a surgeon recently. Who got a kidney not long ago and it arrived to her in a box with tire marks on it and when she opened it up it was the consistency of ground meat? She couldn't she couldn't use that. She had a patient on the table. Waiting thing for it and I talked to another surgeon recently. WHO's waiting for an organ and it went to a completely different airport in a completely different state? You know these. In the past to be honest I thought those were edge cases. I was more concerned about the organs not being recovered at all. Well on the back of your reporting I've two concerns one then being recovered and then to them getting into patients in a way that can save their life and maximize their life by getting there as quickly as possible. So I think what people who work for appeals would say is that those numbers are relatively low that there about twenty three thousand kidneys transplanted every year overall. And they're not saying it's not a problem but it's not a priority already problem. What do you think tell that to the hundred and thirteen thousand American families that are waiting to get a

"All right. Everyone welcome back to our AI rewind 2019 series in this episode will be covering covering NLP. And I've got the pleasure of being on the line with Nassreen Mostafa Day. She is a senior research scientist. At elemental cognition Nassreen. Woken back to the PODCAST. Sam Glad to back. Thanks for having me definitely glad I to be speaking with you again. We last spoke back in August of twenty eighteen when we spoke about contextual modeling language envision and some of your research This time will be reviewing some of your thoughts on the most important papers and developments more broadly the and the field that you work in natural language processing in twenty nineteen. I'll have folks refer back to that previous episode for a a little bit more about you and your background and what you're working on but to get this conversation started. Why don't we just start with your kind of broad? Take on twenty nine thousand nine in and Lt what was the was a big year for an ob sure so. Actually I think yeah thing into the nineteen was actually exciting. You're out the you know. These large pre-trading Models have been stretched widely to various various different directions and you know slowly but surely is community. They've started the sink about elected problems. They have the weaknesses the blindness spice up up Citing the sort of paradigm shifts that you're seeing in an LP sort of are into twenty twenty now kinda started. I'm I can reflect back on the decade Started back in two thousand fifteen to sixteen or so in various Task could start to get tackled by relatively straightforward approach that you would just including input tax. It could be looked looked at as a sequence of wars characters etc.. The new US like attention to actually Basically looked back back into the included representation video trying to predict something for task. which could be a sequence of Tokens as evacuate does container so so You know Chris Manning which is one of the pioneers of our field. The had this Basically the Belief from him that he believed him BIOS hegemony which he believes that basically no matter what the task is out there not task if you try wireless wirelessly omitted and use attention to attend back to the Basically important including a of the input you basically can Actually the state of the art knows this referring to the tension is all you need paper so attention is it only you need. Paper is more resent so that was then. The transfer miss came to picture. This has been hellish how fast field is moving through two thousand teams still as I said like the consensus in all it was that you can reach you. Choose state of the art if you just throw it. Violence attached that was the recipe and back in that tire member. Like when I was like talks I would conclude that look although that has been true or a host of different benchmarks a happens that for detested require vast amounts of background Dan knowledge reasoning in basically Require salish along tastes Not yet achieve state of the art or near human performance servants using these by Malls so fast forward just one year. In two thousand eighteen we had like L. modes steep contextualized were presentation The basically started sort of this one more step forward of billing these large language models which happened to be contextualized so preaching on a very large corpus and then fine tune of data stream which should sell started meeting lots and lots of different as state of the arts and establishing brand new state of arts and so the test that I had in mind when I was personally criticizing the fact that Oh look by throwing Added attention on a particular benchmark jump. Necessarily she stayed at the ARD causes reasoning tasks which is something that I personally absolutely very passionate about. It happens to be mined line of research and so the particular task was a storage tasks which I talk again. The lastingly testing we talk. Radio is specifically story Koehler says which is tested given a sequence of four sentences on which form a coherent story very very short story. The task is riches between two alternative endings to that story which Yunos designed basically to evaluate systems commonsense reasoning reasoning capabilities What happened in two thousand seventeen? Is that mid two thousand seventeen or so. The attention is unique. Paper came out the transformer paper that you just mentioned a minute or two ago so that paper basically enable aiding effect of other blurry large large pre-trade transformer models that could actually establish the state of the art in various commonsense reasoning tasks one being the. Gt one paper says uh-huh on paper came out around in two thousand eighteen hours which was Utah Training Model. This was a very large language model. Oh that opening. I folks have basically trained on a very large diverse corpus and then fine tune on a small data sets and actually this data said that they highlighted as to the place for me. The most amazing basically progress happened to be story closed as the benchmark. I I really cared about. So they have Notably they have often like around eighty six or so percent accuracy which was exceedingly getting better than the previous Number is that people had reported on the test set and so that really sort of changed my personal mind out adverb. You're going to this. I started believing in the fact that all look although these models may seem to be sort of doing pattern recognition at the scale pitch may not Doing reasoning in connecting the dots in all these sorts of things that we care about in a label as his reasoning. Efi You know do them in the right way or give these models off chance of being trained for on the right Dina says finding them right these center eric capable of doing knowledge transfer. I think that sort of set the ground up for us to move into has nineteen Very had more more of these very large preaching models that then you could basically find on various demonstrating test and establish state of yard. No matter the but they're not they're from our very at coronel t tasks like Shining tests such as historic Costas itself Congress this is reasoning etc.. So I think this has been the main exciting thing about Nineteen where we could see. This wasn't just a glimpse of Wasn't just a one time thing that these models could perform val it continued into two thousand eighteen. And I think I'm actually excited about A scene Improving these people off more about the downsides of these models but yeah I'm very excited to see her. VR going with this paradigm shift into any twenty.

I I'm actually goading going to boulder sitting vodka for all star weekend very excited about this. I'm going to the Dominican Republic. My wife, my wife, very my wife wanted we do it's time. It's time to I haven't taken a vacation in season since Lynn Sanderson's, I missile insanity by accident. And so I figured this is safe and we're bringing the grandparents so he can hand my child to them and be normal human beings for a couple of days. I actually talked to L Horford about going to the fake Dominican. But it's still nice. I said, I know we're just want to go to a beach fetus, I'm gonna miss also do like all star that doesn't mean that we can escape our obligation to pick two participants in an exhibition game. Do you want to start with the east or the west? Well, I mean, that's an interesting question. I feel like well, I mean, obviously, the west is populated with more talent. I mean, it's incredible. When you gotta do this exercise. The like the contrast you have to talk yourself in the west out of guys in the east. You have to talk yourself into guys. So I, you know, what the east always gets precedent in this country like television things everything as they west coast denizen. Let's do the west. I it's also the better. Wow. Okay. We'll do. We'll do the west. I so here here are the rules. I made you I didn't I didn't demand. Final picks. In fact, my picks are are not completely finalized. Yes. But when I do this I like to like to ignore the fan vote completely and just pay. I don't even know pick. The I don't even know apparently Luca weight or doing very well. And pick twelve the full twelve person roster for free conference and. I lamb basted the NBA last week for the continued fealty to both positions and conference. Like, why are we doing twelve and twelve it stood Iran? Can I rant about a couple of things, and we can get it out of the way? Yes complained anymore. All right. A right if we're not playing with versus let's just take the best reserves respective of conference, easy, even more than that. And it's something, you know, we talked about in a word voting anybody in the NBA watching basketball these days when we're talking about front court in backward. I mean, I think you and I've been talking for years about point wings bigs, right? Like, I the fact that there is very little distinguishing twos and threes on most teams this days. The it's just we need to get to a point where it's perimeters and Biggs or again point wing big or something because it's just there the modern Cain does not accommodate these classifications. And I just don't. Like, I don't get surely they know this like this is the product. It's actually a great thing talk about position basketball. This is one of the great they sell this brand of basketball as a reason to tune in. So why not have all star voting for that matter awards voting conform to this new era of of basketball? So so I am basted another word that do not know the origin of the NBA office for for all of this stuff. It sounds like a turtle. Yeah. Based Basting something I don't know how to base the Turkey. I'm really not very useful very hard for almost any household. I have to cook dinner tonight because my life is sick. I have to I have to my wife is six I had to do everything in the morning.
