"Liked every move. The padres main at the end of the day though when those moves get injured or underperform injured in yu darvish injured and paddock underperformance. Snell they're again. They're running a two man rotation out there at this exact moment. This is a team that is not going to win going forward and i think the trade deadline only hurt the chemistry of that team yesterday. They fired their pitching coach. Larry rothschild at the end of the day. Larry rothschild did not get their pitchers hurt. The pitchers hurt and that. And now you got a team that is absolutely looking devastatingly bad and they're about to go into a series of the los angeles dodgers. This might be the series that knocks the padres out a playoff contention period.

"Yu Darvish steals it. It uses it and this is walk up yesterday. Now batting for the Padres pitcher number 11 Yu Darvish. And he stands there and kind of lets the music play and Marissa put disarms of, like, really. And then after the game, here's what he said. I used that song because it was Rizzo. That kind of took care of me. What? Things weren't really working my way in Chicago, so it was in a way to say thank you to him. Obviously I have a good relationship with him Rizzo jester to Darvish in the moment, throwing his arms in the air before the two disgusted postgame. We actually texted each other after the game, but I think he was pretty happy about it, Darvish said. I know the Padres fans didn't get that. But if you're the Cubs, you're like, Well, look at you using Rizzo's walk up song pretty pretty awesome. Darvish what people were just killing him Flu Darvish in the whole deal, and then he goes to South Bend to throw and he lasts an inning. He goes. I can't my arm hurts. He's done for the year ever is like what a bust right Then he goes out. He has a lousy start to 19. And then the start throwing more fastballs and bam! They fix it, Tommy. How did he gets him in the right direction, finishes the season strong and he's great during the Covid shortened season, second for saying, Okay, well, my issue originally, as I mentioned before, I didn't think you should have been a co I thought that After his time with the Dodgers. I said, You know, he can go someplace else. He can't really help the Cubs. But then you remember the story when the Cubs went to Los Angeles, and there's Darvish ducking away from the media hiding in small places because he was ducking the L. A media because they were gonna ask him all the questions about how you fail. Like I didn't like that either. And I'd like, so what's the What's up with you? Darvish? What's up with you? And then? Of course, the other storyline is I don't know if I want to play anymore, right? Let me see how they're handling Covid, which I respected him. Get that. Are they taking this stuff? Seriously, Because I can tell you. If not, I'm going back to Japan. I'm not going to get myself sick. My family gonna retire. He says what he's gonna do. I just you know so those things but Just watching the game yesterday. I really like what I saw there and just the resolve of the Cubs being able to win that game. That's what I liked, and we talked about well played games a couple of days ago. Talking about the, uh The first game between the socks and the Jays. This also very well played game. Not a lot of hits, but I've got some really good pitching on both sides. Yeah, really solid, But I thought the meat they're playing the song was awesome. Pretty funny, Awesome. And your guy wisdom by the way. Another another hits, one for four. That guy just keeps delivering man. He just keeps delivering. And we'll have risen with us tomorrow to preview the Cardinals series. They've got the day off today. We were doing the Matthew and I. Their plane got back in Chicago. 11, 11, 30. A lot of those guys have boats. I will guarantee you if they're not all right. They didn't sleep on the boat last night. Those guys are on the water by eight o'clock guaranteed by as has a cool boat. Hayward has an amazing boat. Rizzo has a boat. I don't know who else but there's a bunch I will guarantee you. They are on the water with their cell phones turned off today. Good for them. They deserve it After that. Victory against the Padres and winning that series. For sure. By the way, I I miss buyers at shortstop when I'm watching the Cubs, right. It's just not as smooth was with Alcantara. And Hap in the middle of the infield. Did you see their lineup yesterday? By the way, the stolen base by the way by the the Padres, and that's another reason why I like the Padres is because they kind of turned the clock back a little bit. They believe in him. You know him the other way. They love the stolen base. I think the top team in baseball and stolen bases, But you saw the song based by the Padres yesterday. That happened. Didn't quite have the bias flourish with the tag just just laid it on there. Like Yeah, and there's an outfielder is playing in field, right? Exactly. It wasn't as smooth. You know what I'm saying? Look at their lineup. Mallard. You see the line update ran out there. The Cubs, right? Yes. Okay? Patrick Wisdom is your starting third basement. Ortega is your starting center fielder with a robust 1 56 to 29 to 50 slash line. Contra is your starting shortstop? P. J. Higgins is your starting catcher? Okay. If I had said to you at the start of the year. Hey, man, they are going to have to Play the Padres in San Diego against Yu Darvish, who is rolling like 11 and one in his starts. Rolling And that's going to be there like four guys that weren't You couldn't have name those four guys. Do you know why the Padres were a great bet there? Look at that lineup. Looks like the lineup after you've won the the division in there before and what's wasted. All right, You guys get the plate and that's what that looks like. Right? It looks like the lineup after you've won the division. And so that's why the difference between now and April is put that out there in April, See if it comes to one. You have no opportunity? No, almost no hit with that lineup, But now they're playing. As Anthony said, Well, ask him again tomorrow with this chip on their shoulder. And it is Can't wisdom Ortega are Contra Higgins. Four. Your starters. Keep in mind. The Cubs just scratched out four hits in that victory, But the difference between April and now is, is that you found a way to win. Otherwise, you're just folding the tent like, Yeah, we're gonna lose this. And you realize that their bullpen came in Rex Brothers, your guy Rex Brothers, Rex brothers, always holding the game an inning. Didn't walk him in and give up a hit two K's 18 pitches 11 for strikes. Then they go to to Pere. It's guide, then, just phenomenal two innings, no hits, no walks. 24 pitches 16 for strike and three punch outs and then Kimbrel comes in and is literally unhittable. He's throwing 99 on the inside portion on the black of the plate and No shot. Yep. "They had been targeting him for the last few years. My question Why not get Mike talk man in here sooner? All you had to give up with wanting Peralta, one of your left handed relievers in a stable full of left handed relievers, and Mike talking already making an impact for a Giants team that has been without Mikey Stransky is down. Donovan Solano and now Could be without Tommy. Let Stella we will get to that. And while Estelle his absence could have such a significant impact on this Giants offense, moving forward, But talk Hman looks like the leadoff hitter for the Giants of Lost. Ella is going to miss any time. He's someone who is taking more than four pitches per plate appearance. He's someone who is grinding down starting pitchers and he is someone who was critical. The giant success against Padres. Righty Joe Moscow of a guy who has been so successful since landing in San Diego this off season in a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates Must. Grove was really outstanding in his final few starts for the Pirates last year, and now he's transition to San Diego. Elka home native through the first no hitter and Padres history, the Giants Ran him out after five innings on Sunday. It was their best offensive approach off the weekend. And that is something that we have seen consistently despite all these sub 2 30 batting averages on this giant Russia, and I know that look Regardless of where you stand on batting average is whether you think that it's an important stat or a useless stab everyone who thinks the batting average regardless of what you think if they're under 2 30, that's probably not good. You're probably not producing. And so I get to the Giants offense has been difficult to watch it ties but what they did against Joe must. Grove was really, really impressive, especially after facing Yu Darvish in Game one of the serious Darvish kind of shove against them. They got Blake Snell out of the game early in Game two, but were unable to win. That one is. Anthony de Sclafani gave up three spot in the first inning. The bullpen fell apart in the late innings. But with Kevin Gossman going on Sunday, the Giants have their ace there stopper on the mound, they needed a victory to salvage the final game of the seriousness Hang And first place ahead of the Los Angeles Dodgers, who were up early with two Grand Slams because the Brewers on Sunday who were clearly going to win that ballgame, the Giants took it to Joe Must. Grove. Kevin Gausman played a role in both of their rallies against the Padres starter and Gabe Catholic Giants manager was really pleased with his team's approach. Here's what he had to say. Talk without a great approach against must, grove. I thought our entire group had a great approach against must Grove. We were just gonna be very selective on DSI. If we could run his pitch, count up and We weren't able to do that in every inning. But I thought talked, Hman exemplified the right approach. And obviously, that big, big hit for us was huge, given the fact that we've got a couple of days without hitting with runners in scoring position, so I think you're right on with that, Carrie. Oh, thanks for leaving in that final part of the cliff gave you addressing me after that question. Good stuff. Mike talk Hman joining this Giants offense And look, I don't think anyone thought that when Mike talk when was acquired, he was gonna be ah, huge impact player for this Giants offense. He's a role player. But in Farhaan Society and Gabe Kapler's regime role players are important. He's a complimentary piece toe Austin Slater in center field. Slater was given the opportunity through the month of April to go out and win a full time starting job in center field. Look against left handed pitchers Austin Slater's been quite valuable against right handers. He has been well below league average. So what Farhaan do he went out and got a left handed hitter who they can start against right handed pitchers. And that's exactly what happened on Sunday against Joe must grow. They had Stephen Duggar in the lineup. They had Alex Dickerson lineup, but Mike talk man was out in right field. And so far since joining San Francisco in 17 Plate appearances, he's got five hits. He's got one walk. He has consistently seeing 4 to 5 to six pitches per plate appearance that's really valuable. Is he ever going to look like he did in the second half of the 2019 season when he hit over 300 had eight home runs, post All Star break and ended up with an 8 65 0 P s. Maybe not. He was playing in the Yankee Stadium with the short right field porch. It really worked well for his offensive profile. Mike talk man could be a valuable player for this Giants offense, and he talked about the opportunity in San Francisco. To play multiple games in a row. That is not something that he was able to do in a crowded New York Yankees outfield, and it might not be something to do that that he will be able to do when Mikey Stransky returns, but There's clearly value and being on the field consistently and Mike talk man explain that. I hadn't played two games in a row since like August of last year, including spring training. So then just the more pictures you see the more comfortable you get the batter's box, so just You know, kind of continue can kind of play around with things a little bit more and, you know, do a little bit of a deeper dive into, um you know, picture tendencies and approach instead of just you know, when you don't play a lot when you when you kind of have sparingly really your playing time is, you know multiple days apart. It's just you just try to be aggressive attack, which is still containable bit. Mike talking clearly comfortable in a giant uniform and the Giants clearly comfortable with Mike talk, man. They head into course field with a 17 and 11 record for your 1st 28 games. It is way too early to make big picture projections about the standings have takeaways about what's taking place during the first four or five weeks off the regular season, But I will say this after watching the Giants Six games gets the San Diego Padres have compiled a three and three record. Against the Padres team that is loaded. The Gabe Kapler said, has probably one of the best one through six is in the lineup of any offense in the major leagues. It's clear the Giants can hang with them. It is clear that they're not fazed by what may be perceived as a discrepancy in the talent level. But between the two clubs, it is clear that the giant starting rotation that has been so effective this season 82.34 a leads the majors second place New York Mets 2.67. It's clear the Giants can pitch to the Padres. Nearly every game safer. Sat safe for Saturday's has been close and Saturdays only got away from them because Gabe Kapler didn't want to use his best relievers in a game with the judge for trailing by one run after Anthony DeSclafani exit following the sixth inning. And so I think this is it is important and looking at What the Giants can accomplish this season. Look at the six games they played against the Padres and to realize that this is a team. He's going to give the best teams in the National League hell. At times during this season..

Kevin Gossman Stephen Duggar Kevin Gausman Anthony de Sclafani Donovan Solano Anthony DeSclafani Alex Dickerson Mikey Stransky Blake Snell Austin Slater Gabe Kapler Tommy Estelle Yu Darvish Los Angeles Dodgers Pirates New York Yankees six games Pittsburgh Pirates Yankee Stadium

Ben is a proud partner with Hawthorne Race course. And if you were someone you know, has a problem and wants help call 1 800 gambler for crisis counseling and referrals services. Yu Darvish. That's the picture. I was thinking of, Sam you, Darvish. I mean, you talk about the people deciding that I want to be Cubs fans anymore. They're missing you as well. The quarterback in the NFL, whose absence would move the line. The most is a Pat Mahomes is a Tom Brady, Is it? Um, Aaron Rodgers? What do you think about that? So again. I talked to Kenny White, who has made lines in Las Vegas from 40 years, and he puts a point value on every single player in the NFL. But when it comes to the quarterback, it's a combination of how great the quarterback is. And also, how average or awful the backup is on. Di Think that's Ah, good way to look at this. So he told me that the drop off between Mahomes to Chad Henny and Kansas City is nine points. That's the same number in Green Bay with Aaron Rodgers to Tim Boyle. So Rogers is nine points better than boil. And if you look at that point spread right now, Green Bay is about a three point favorite against Tampa Bay. If Aaron Rodgers were to fall down the stairs and get ruled out. We're talking about Tampa Bay, potentially being a 3.5 of four point favorite, or even more so those two are both nine points better than their backups. Josh Allen is 7.5 points better than Matt Barkley and the low man on the totem pole. Believe it or not, Tom Brady is only 5.5 points better than Blaine Gabbert, according to Las Vegas, and he's still playing. How about that? And I should I be rooting for Tom Brady? Now that he's wearing a different helmet? Why is that kind of fun? It could be. I think it could be. I think it's a good story because he was sort of pushed out the door in New England. And he decided that you know what? I'm not done playing. I'm gonna go somewhere else and prove that I can still do this now. Is he the player? He once? Woz? No. I watched that whole game box against the Saints. I thought Brady was average. He looked like a 43 year old quarterback. He completed. I think 18 passes and 33 attempts for 199 yards that people are always going to sell. You can't bet against Brady. But I think the defense was more important than Tom Brady. They picked off two robberies three times. They forced the fumble at midfield. The Bucks didn't win because of Brady, but also he didn't do anything wrong. He didn't make any mistakes, so he did enough to keep them in the game. And then in the fourth quarter, you can throw all the intangibles out the window. There's no quarterback in the world you'd rather have with a lead or, you know a semi close game than Tom Brady because there is such a thing as clutch nous, although to a breeze is good in the clutch. Aaron Rodgers have been good in the clutch. I thought that game last weekend was fun because the What was that The combined age of the starting quarterbacks was 84 or something like I'm not making that up. It was 41 43 or something. So, um, that was just kind of fun. I know. A lot of people noticed that that may have been Who breathes his last game, right? And then he kind of turned and looked afterwards was fun Video of Drew Brees and Tom Brady after the game, throwing the football on the field with their kids, which was kind of fun. So for NFL fans. There was that was a fun matchup. I'll say that, um, talk to me about the big bed of the week. Then what were you seeing last week? So there was a customer of points bed that place the weight. A juror on Saturdays NFL game between the bills and the Ravens bills were 3.5 point favorite, so they had to win by four or more to cover. Somebody had points bed. Bet $5400 per point. So for every point the bills covered by the better winds. 5400. I like that kind of bills. Go ahead. Thing is, it goes the other way. So if the bills don't cover That better had to pay 5400 plus the juice on every point. Bills were up 10 to 3. The Ravens were driving. They were about to score a touchdown King. It was about to be 10 to 10, which is bad for this bill's better. Lamar Jackson throws an interception. Buffalo runs at 101 yards all the way down the field 17 to 3 and that better covered by 11.5 points to win $56,000. Well, I've not heard of a bet like that, where you bet per point. Over the over the, uh The line, right? So if it's 3.5, and then no way to talk to me about that, I'm trying to hear what this means. Let's just say in a basketball game, you lay two points and the team wins by 20. You won by 18. So you multiply 18 times the amount of your wager. That's your payout. Right. So I don't even have to. Um, I mean, so say it's 20 points. Um, I don't have to be. I guess The point is, I don't have to be perfect on that bet, right? You don't have to be perfect, but you'd also not like to lose by a lot. If you laid two points. If you're a two point favorite, and your team loses by 20, then you lose 22 times. Your wager, so it's It's a hair raising bet either way, and it's It's certainly something that could swing on a dime like that game did with Buffalo in Baltimore..

"They go the LCS and lose. Why are you one of the world's and they just It is a passionate fan base. They it matters and those who spots as a broadcaster that you just love the energy of the place. Look Sam be joining us. It's waddling Sylvia on ESPN 1000 books, the new voice of the Chicago Cubs on Marquis. So I didn't know you when you were doing the Marlins. I didn't know you when you were doing the Braves. I've only known national John. Sham be. So can you be a homer? That's a good I don't think I don't think you're going to get punched in the face. Homer. I don't think you're going to get that from me. But you're You're gonna get Yeah, We know what side he's pulling for. So that's what I would. That's what I would say to you. I don't know if we're gonna have the wind slip out, you know? It works like clipping. I would ever work again. I would definitely teach him that. You know what's the over under on when he's going to drop the we, Um I don't. I don't. That's not really My role, but I will have you know there. There won't be any doubt about you know whose broadcast I'm doing? That's for sure. What are you expecting from this Cubs team this year? I'm not sure yet. I mean, I don't think it's been completely determined what it's gonna look like I will tell you this. You know, for everybody freaking out about what has taken place. I just think we always Overestimate the wind value. I'm not talking about war. So this is where more subjective but the wind value of a single player. I mean, you know, just for example. Look, you was phenomenal last year, right? But just as a as a way teething about it. If I asked you to right now, if you had the bet, who's putting up a better season next year, Yu Darvish or Kyle 100? Might go with them. I go with a known money in and the more consistent player and Kyle Hendricks Hendricks, right, I think looks so it's just look, it's just a point. That babies could be pretty darn good. You know, like he's solid and is feeling was not you, Dawlish, but he has the ability to be good. So what I mean it's not like you trade away. If you know it's just a one for one setting. Assuming they're both healthy. You know, it's not like Yu Darvish. Going, and that baby's coming is a difference of like, five wins You something for the Chicago Cubs. My guess is that it's probably a couple of wins. But, you know, look Right now, With Darvish gone, you have Hendrix. And you're looking at, you know People like You know, people like mills and looking at a staff. That's probably not as power pitching oriented and I think we've seen that. You know, today's baseball these guys, they're harder than ever before. The successful teams for the most part, strike people out. And that will eventually need to be found. I think the one other point is Just last year seems confusing to may. I mean, I was doing the that Syriza and I was confused because I thought it would be a better offensive team, and I and I don't know. You know what? It'll look like on the field? Obviously, you know, Schwarber. Is gone. But I I anticipate, um That they they will score more than they did last year, because I just I thought it would be a better offensive team. Look, Sami joining us. It's waddling Sylvia on ESPN 1000. I mean, how cool is it to like, Like you said You could even hear it in your voice book that this is still that you're on Cloud nine. You're still processing this. And then you've got your former broadcast partner who's now managing the Cubs. I mean, it doesn't get much better than that. Yeah, you know, and there's look there. There's a connection that I had, you know, Start with the guy that I'm gonna work with. You know, J B, I think is That's old, both off and on the air. I know we've never done a game together, but it's one of those things. I know how will fit. You know he's smart. He's fun. He's funny. And then You know, you mentioned Rossi. You know David's David is a good friend. You know. Ryan Dempster's another guy who's in the area who have known since I was 21 with the 98 Marlins. And I've been lucky that it's you know, organizationally, this is the, uh Group that's always been super welcoming to me. And You know, the players in that clubhouse is well, I always found it to be a really good group. So I, You know, there's a part of it. That's just it feels familiar. Now I'll stop myself and say, I recognize that I don't know what it's like on a day in day out basis, and there are things As you know, I've been coming to the city for 25 years doing big league games and called easily triple digit games at that ballpark, But I know that there are things that I'll have to learn and keep my antenna up for in terms of the market, the team the region, but I'm excited about that, because I'm just going to come at it with I'm gonna be happy to be at the ballpark every day and I like what I do, so I'm Yeah, I'm just really It's got a lot to take in it has, you know just my phone's been blowing up and and, uh,.

"Sure, but that's always short lived right because the expectations were raised after 2016 hands. It doesn't help. All of the hype that surrounded the team. You Everyone said when they went in 2016. Everyone felt like, Oh, it was a year early, and this was a championship window. That was gonna be open for five years. And you know what? A lot of ways the cubs were. They made the playoffs. You know what was it five out of six. Or you know how much I'm trying to remember Now, Officer on my head, But like, well, four out of five with mad, But then they made it together. First year after him, right? Yeah. Last 5% 5 of the six seasons. And But the playoff disappointment, you know is what I think leaves Cubs fans with a sour taste in their mouth now and today. It's just kind of like the exclamation point of. Hey! You went out. You signed Yu Darvish to a big contract. And even though he dealt with injuries that first year he had really lived up to that contract the Let last season no doubt. Yeah, last year and a half since he got healthy, right? And now Now in a bad division. We understand your I mean, we understand you're telling everybody you're hemorrhaging money, biblical losses as Tom Ricketts told you, Jesse, but you know, at the same time, this is a very winnable division. And if you just get into the playoffs if you've got a couple of good top and starters, you could make some noise. I think I think obviously you can't have it both ways. But comes face are annoyed because They haven't lived up to the expectations since 2016 and now I You look at this trade and there's nothing you can really say. Well, what this is the guy we're building around. It's almost like it. You say rebuild isn't rebuild, or is it straight salary dump? Yeah, certainly a salary dump. No doubt about that. I mean, it's it's a rebuilding the sense that You didn't get two guys, They're gonna help you assume he's even 2022. You know, that's that's where it's a regal. It's not immediate help or or near immediate help. It is down the line and again. We don't even know if anything's for really legit, you know, and they'll be players that I've looked into it over the last 12 hours. There's upside. Insist there is that. 18 1920 year olds. So who knows, And none of them are like that can't miss 18 1920 year olds, none of them But there is there is upside and there's this and that second round pick and out of Canada while he's intriguing. Yeah, I think companies wanted more for you. Garbage bin. Intriguing it upside. Well, look with the Padres Do the Padres made two deals Get Blakes now and Yu Darvish, and they do not give up six of their seven best process. Right? J. How's that? How's how's it possible? Was it not possible that Tempus is. Listen, You want him? You've got to give us something. They got one guy, right? They got a picture. Patino, you can't cry. They got him. So they got somebody, but, you know, somewhere along like, okay, give us that the seventh best. We don't want your first or second, you understand? Give us your seventh best. Give us something, but that's not what the comes. Got The one well. Going? Just not say I mean little caveat. I mean, maybe the Cubs They're scouting these guys different than then. Who's making those lessons? Yeah. Gotta give a little better for the culture. They might see something that some some, you know, ESPN guru doesn't just use but you're right. You wanted library tourists, which is a can't miss. You wanted Eli, which was a can't miss. That's the answer The question. Where is the can't miss? For God finished second inside young, Maybe the tie this all together, you're and that's the thing is, I think we get obsessed with the numbers on these lists. The reality. Yellow is first of all. The Padres have one of the best farm systems and baseball's They do so their top 10 You know, are not saying exactly so, like just because you're not getting one of their top 10 prospects doesn't necessarily mean that you're not getting a good player. The other reality is that the difference, I guess between someone like laboratories. Is that when we all knew tours was close to the majors, and as you mentioned Jesse, these players that they've acquired are not necessarily close to the majors, and so because there's just like we're talking about there's going to be some development that needs to go into this and You know, that's maybe you look at the other thing. Have the Cubs really been able to develop their young players? Can't you switch again? Going back to the rhetoric? I just wish there were even Maura front. Now. They said they were gonna be some tough decisions, but it should have been like, Look, we have failed. Were opened anything. It could be a retool. Could be a reset could be rebuilt. I don't know. It takes two to tango. We're gonna listen and everyone we know that it hasn't been good enough. You know what I mean? That's like the rhetoric was. It wasn't like that, and I think it may be, And that's why I'm more focused on that. Then then the actual trade because we don't know what the other offers were for Yu Darvish. Maybe this was the very best he could do now. Of course, you could have said, no. I'll hold on to him and and wait this thing out Trade try to trade someone else. I feel like there are more moving pieces balls in the air about the actual trade. But the rhetoric that you can choose you can choose what you say. And they certainly made it sound like Oh, it's not gonna be any sort of a terror down. In fact, I think cricket's used those words. And to me if I was a fan of the more upset with that, Wait a minute. You were transparent years ago. You should have been a little bit more transparent. This guy 32nd side young, but we just got to liking him. Just got used to liking this guy..

"One of my second world. Syriza's Where's my good times? Charlie? Right. Where is it? Where's the lamp shade of my love My money? It's second highest ticket prices when we get our lives back. Yeah, but you're not trying to win busting my ass every day out here trying to figure out how I can scrape up might pay you Season tickets or partial season tickets. So where's my return? In my investment? Correct? Yes. I mean, on my recliner watching the Marquis Network, right, lean. Seriously, That's all they care. They don't care. If you've taken a billion dollars on in debt to buy up really built. Well, here's the thing. Here's the thing. I'm just a fan, and I truly am just a fan. But now you have to give the perspective cap give the perspective financially for this Cubs team. What is Boris telling the truth or the Cubs down the truth? Because here's the thing I would say. I think you and I are on the same page. Danny and I and you. We all disagree on this. And he believes that they should come back. And have another run at this thing with this core, and I'm saying, Did you not see this ball? That was his liars in the meeting? He said. Did you not watch you see this team is dead asked team Offensively, you can't even scored two runs in a ballgame. I mean, here's the thing, Danny, You gotta let that girl go. She's hurt you too often. For three years. You've been talking to me about how she's hurt you and now you want to bring her back again. You're bringing her back to the party again. I told you don't bring her back to the table. I mean, this is our good time on a Saturday night and you're bringing back someone who's hurting you. The Cubs is that girl That's hurt you for three plus years, but she's also brought me the most joy I've ever experienced in my life. It's hard for me to look at the roster. With an Anthony Rizzo on there with a hobby by is on there with the Kris Bryant on there with a Wilson Contreras on there. With Yu Darvish on there with Kyle Hendricks on there. It's hard for me to look at that roster on paper and say to myself, this team can't win. She's not the only girl out there, though. I understand. I know I know it was good. I know it's gold down there. But here's the thing. He's not the only one. Can't you find someone else? Here's the difference. I'm dating a former supermodel. Yeah, I let her go. Odds are probably not dating a supermodel or a model it in any way for a while, Right? That's your fault. But that's where the Cubs are right now. Like those names are all Star caliber names. Those guys won a World Series for you. You'd start shipping those guys off for other pieces and you're rebuilding. Well, I don't want that. I feel I have more hope with the names that I just listed off than I do with a bunch of no names. Nobody are ever heard of. Just because they're cheap because the owners has lost is a biblical proportion. Well, listen to you. You've had a good time with your 10. I've never blinked, attend, but I've blanked two fives. Huh? Oh, that's that's your choice, man. How about out of five work your way up? Right once it once you have a 10, you don't wanna go back. I understand that. But if you walked in the house and Michelle said to you, Jonathan, who's the Who's the five you blanked? Wait, pause for me. How dare he After you say blank to five. Invoke the name of your wife? No. I'm saying it's a longer pause should even anyway. Same segment. If he walks in the house, and she goes, Jonathan, that wall is going to fall. But this house is beautiful. We moved in here. It was awesome. Jonathan that Wall needs to be repaired because tomorrow it may not even be standing. It might fall correct and the second floor is held up by that wall. And With Danny's rational but when we moved in here was beautiful. We could keep it going. Might be a moron. But I refuse to believe this is who Chris Brian is. I refused to believe that that you know, hitting in the playoffs was who Harvey by is an Anthony Rizzo are I refuse to believe that we can't get back to the level And maybe that's just the nostalgia and me and the fact that 2016 was such a glorious year, and these guys were the core of that. What I feel is a confident going into 2021 that I will take my chances in this crappy and l central division with those names on the roster than a bunch of David Bowties. This is where you are headed, though. You know this, right? Say you get to the playoffs and get bounced again. Say that happens. You know that the next step is well, you can't come back with this group again. How many times they have to continue to be so bad offensively for you to say A. Some of this has to be interchangeable. We gotta fix this. Well, The other thing is So at the end of next year, they fall short near like boy, four straight years. The offense just crushed it. Guess what? They're out of contract. There's no franchise tag in Major league baseball, you go. Let's just tag him for a year and see how he does know he leaves. Now you've got nobody..

"At this point, unless it's someone who is really pre arbitration or just entering arbitration to do it for essentially a one year rental, I don't think is really where they are as an organization right now. You know, we have seen that this captain close pretty quickly and, um, you know, I do think that they're gonna look like I said, to be opportunistic that there's some things there. That makes sense of the otherwise maybe wouldn't think they'd be in position to do at this point in their off season, especially if it means that they make financial commitments that other teams you know, maybe need to relieve themselves off. But But Linda or specifically, I think to give up talent to get a guy that you only have control over one year is probably not going to be the kind of move that they're gonna make. It is interesting, you know, Want to set the market tushy in a year like this word so volatile and it could be set in a number of ways. We saw Texas that you mentioned Give David Doll one year $3 million. Red Sox today signed Hunter Renfroe. I think it was a very similar deal. I bring this up because Trevor Bauer is going to get paid, you would think, But there was a story that John Shea had that I thought was interesting that he, Bauer says that The Giants fans have been peppering his agent Rachel Liuba, I guess who grew up in the jazz, a Giants fan in the Bay Area about you know him signing with the Giants, But the Angels have interest there. The Padres the mats that the maybe even that. Who knows? Maybe The Dodgers as well. But what do you think of Bauer? Overall to the Giants? That clearly need a starting pitcher? You know, it's kind of long lines seem ones. What Tom is saying is this is a two early to think power. I mean, you want to stay aggressive, You know, I know they're not the Dodgers, the Padres, but don't you wanna You know you're still an iconic franchise with an awful lot of money in a very large fan base that's eager to see them back in the playoffs and the world. Syria's what do think Bauer will they make a serious run a power Well, I think that they're gonna listen. Um, I mean, he's the best starting pitcher on the market. Um, you know, he's he's someone who would instantly make the rotational lot better. Uh, he's coming off the Saiyan Award season. I had a sudden award this vote this year and and it was pretty easy call for him to be number one. Yu Darvish was obviously terrific, but but he was there was some separation there. But you know he is coming off a season where we talk about a small sample of 60 games when you're starting pitcher that means, you know, 11 12 starts. That's not very much so I think the Giants would would pay attention really, to the analytics in his pitching and spin rate in glass and all that other stuff. Because clearly that is more important to teams now than you know what you've already done. Regardless of impressive it's been, but you know if if he stays true to his word, and he goes with one year contracts, then you could argue that he does make some sense for the Giants because they wouldn't be Me themselves one term. You could also say that that really doesn't make sense for them because they'd be giving up a draft pick for a guy they have for one year in the season, where they may be, aren't necessarily thinking it Z time to put the pedal to the metal yet, so I think if they could get him on a multiyear contract, they still good about that was sort of medium term, not like a five year deal that was maybe below market value for what they thought it could be. Not not really unlike with the Diamondbacks did with Madison Bumgarner last offseason, they were really looking to sign. Starting pitcher to that kind of term, But, you know, he bent over backwards to make make the financials work for them, and they sort of were changed their mind s O. I did sort of see a scenario like that play out, but I think there's gonna be enough students to this guy. That you know, there isn't going to be unnecessarily a quote unquote bargain to be had, so I kind of see a lot more ways that they don't match up in ways that they do. We'll see if he sticks of that one year deal. That's a lot of stress boys. I mean, if anybody could do it again, I guess it's him because he's just a different type of cat. But that's a move man on somebody 60 no contract in front of you. He said that he signed a multiyear deal at any point. He's got a buddy lined up who's supposed to take a paint gun out and shoot him. You know, in in the man parts, So, um, you know, we could see that happen. I suppose that you probably put it on his YouTube channel. See what I want. I'll you know what I'll subscribe comes up. Begin to go. It sounds like it might hurt on your Baggaley joins us bags. Give us your thoughts on in your interactions with One of our favorites, Henry Hank showman who is retiring at the end of this year. I believe, he said the fourth was is was his last day and just No. You know, I'm better than we do. I mean, we've had him on for years. Once a week in the interaction there always always a lot of fun. Is that a very dry sense of humor? Hey, just he was You know, not unlike yourself, Just a fun read different from anybody else. And that's what makes it interesting. The facts integrated with weaving weaving a story, but you know your interactions with him, and he's been doing this a long, long time. Yeah. I mean, we've been on the beat together for you know, since I started, so it's It's been, you know, 15 years and, um, you know, I tell you what you see all kinds of different beats around. League, and some people are really very collegial. Some people are charming. Some people absolutely hate each other's guts. Some people have had fistfights. Really. There's been a couple of really, really rough beats where people just do not talk to each other. And I gotta beat in the past where I was kind of frozen out by the other beat guys because I was really the new guy wanted to study and earn my stripes back when I was still in California, so Uh, you know, I probably thought I knew more than I did when I was 25 26 years old, So maybe I deserved it. But, you know, I'll tell you what the thing about Henry is. He always leads with his heart. And I think that even if you don't agree with his politics or or if you don't agree with the way he calls somebody out the disagrees with You knew He was being authentic all the time, and I don't wanna talk about almost like he's not here. He still is He. He's just a guy who I think brings a lot of authenticity. And you gotta respect that. So somebody think people out there in the world and No, I think he always wrote with a lot of heart. You always wrote for the For the fan. He never lost sight of that which sometimes we can do And I know I've done it times in this business. "Yes, your draft picks being New York Steak, Bloody Mary Gravy and cherry pie. Correct And I'm trying to trade The gravy. Uh, I was trying to build mashed potatoes. Corn and then the gravy on top it. I smashed the corn into the potatoes. Put the gravy over the top thick gravy. Nothin not liking all Jew like a thick gravy. Excuse me. You heard me. What kind of what? Thick gravy, not in our Jew. A huge jus. Two words, So I French do exactly. I see. Understand. Like I said, Uh, hey, get out of there. J. R and it's awesome. That is like One cheap thing that I really, really love once a year. That's really good. Really good and Tyler went left it all up for me, but taking mashed potatoes. That's just bad. Advance scouting by you. So I grabbed the gravy thinking one of you guys. They're gonna want the gravy and I can move on from the gravy and I'll figure that part of it out. We will finish up the third leg of our draft. Living later on our show. Yes, we will. So who do you like? Best picture in the city? Is it Giolito? Is it Yu Darvish? Is it Kyle Hendricks? I think that really does turn the corner. Now, here's the thing. Tyler makes the point about McCann and I wish McCann was still with the White Sox. But he's gotta get his own opportunity, right. But at some point, Julie don't know matter of him. Whether you're gonna have his caddy this year or not, he's just have to pitch better. I just think that what we saw last year and again Pandemic with you Can ID or not? You saw some signs. They're from Giolito. Now in big games against the twins you had to come through now. He's not an ace. I don't think there is an ace in the city. But I believe that Jill Edo is now coming into his own from a guy who struggle a couple years ago to now, the lights turning on from someone cut the light on on Giolito. How can you say that? There's not an ace in the city. We just had a guy finished second and Cy Young pandemic shortened season. I get it. And another guy on the same side of town who beat Clayton Kershaw to get you to the world. Syriza's pitched in Game seven of the world Syriza's Kyle Hendricks. Al Hendrix. Yeah, I like Kyle Hendricks a lot. Absolutely becomes your number one if you trade for him right now. Number one. He goes ahead of Giolito and Michael. Yes. Okay. Yes. Oh, Darvish goes to Giolito three. I don't think those socks would look at that. Initially. I don't want to rattle the locker room. Yeah, you don't think have you know he comes in there? Angelito and titles like What about us? We'll teach you how to win there. David there. We just bring in Kurt Clayton Kershaw that we just bring in Kyle Hendricks. Kyle Hendricks, who says I shut out Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers. I beat them five. Nothing really good. Really? Yes, absolutely. To the phones. 3123323776 Dalo on the north. Side. What's up? Hey, how you guys doing? Jell O. Buddy, What happened? You went straight cap on this one Giolito, the on Lee elite picture in Chicago before the commercial break. You said Eve elite. When you have Yu Darvish. Who clearly was traded out of Texas, injured and did not Fully recover until he had that last surgery and went to the recovery. And now you're looking at the real Yu Darvish Giolito maybe. Number three, maybe number Or in Chicago. Hey, you know what? Yu Darvish the pointed to make about you next year. I want to see him in a full complement of games and have that type of Cy Young performance because we saw last year. That's what the Cubs are looking for, right? Again. It is a shortness season. A guy that didn't want to pitch, but he gave his best. That's the best. I've seen him even with the Dodgers. I didn't think he was that locked in. What I want to see Dal. Oh, is that for the full season for you to be that guy turned the clock back and being the picture? I think he can be. Thanks, man. Appreciate the call. Have a good Thanksgiving 312332. 3776 guess The question is, How do you value this last season? In terms of real, right? I mean, it was a covert in due season, it was shortened, but it was as difficult everyone played under the same parameters. So do you count the stats, or do you not like you can't tell me that? Tim Anderson had a great year last year and that Yu Darvish didn't because he didn't play enough games. So you have to be consistent all the way through. So that means that if you're not going to count the year that you had last year that you can't count last year for Giolito, either. See what I'm saying. Yeah, that makes sense. Fair enough. Yeah, I could just look at the production and just say for the short amount of games I liked what I saw for 60 games. 60 plus games, right? So that was real because he finished second in the Cy Young voting, right? Yeah. Fish? Yeah. What I'm saying is like what? The performance that we saw from you. I'd like to see for a full season. Right, so I won't. So here's what I will do. I will count what we saw and say there is a glimmer That fair. That's not even half a season. We saw by the way it was only 60 plus games, right? Yeah, I'll take that. So for the glimmer. I thought that he looked good. Yeah, give him a glimmer and let's see how it goes. That fair. That's very good. I'll do it that way. The glimmer itself just saying What we saw was a mirage. I'll just say four of the 60 games we saw That guy had a slice like stuff, correct. And I just want to see that for a full season. We saw a glimmer. Yeah, I like that. So that from from the little the glimmer from Brady, you glorify manderson. Correct, right, Robert, Right? Yeah. Least you had some guys perform. Our offense was Dog me 3123323776,.

"Cubs team needs at home runs to win. That's how they get most of their runs in the regular season on the other side for the Marlins, they have to win in a different way. They get on base against Yu Darvish, and they need to run. They need to steal the bags that you get in scoring position. So for the Cubs, it's the homers. The Marlins is little ball barns were second in the league in stolen bases. They stole two in the opener. They had a couple of home runs, though it a five run seventh, winning that game. 5 to 1. Miami will look to go to 70 in playoff series in franchise history. The Cubs are just hoping to stay alive. We'll have first pitch shortly, but now let's head back to the studios and Jim Basketball. Yu Darvish, Cubs became perfect fit over time

"Now I wanted to ask you about this in it's a harder question to. Answer Two thousand twenty because we're it's not like we're in club houses and we can watch the body language and see players and how they interact with each other i. know in that first year that there were people in the cubs organization who felt like that darvish just wasn't comfortable with the group and it didn't have any do I. Personally I don't think with the other players on the team, but just he maybe was just the pressure of the contract where it felt like he was more of an outsider, not completely within the team realm what what are you seeing? What are you hearing more? So about that now? Get Away, I can relate it from my world reporting world. Is that first year it even though he speaks fine English, he used a translator all year with the media. Now he didn't use it with his teammates but. I think that was is an example of how things change in the second year last year he spoke English, his personality came out he he he got he got to know reporters like myself a lot better and then this year in Spring Training Boston he was like the class clown he was having a great time with us until things shutdown ironically or I guess that's the right word coming back from the pandemic only being able to zoom interviews he's been different. He's been back to being kinda quiet and back he's used a translator at times in the zoom interview so the other thing. Is. He's having so much success. You know how guys are in the middle of a great run they don't WanNa really talk about themselves so much, and that's all we're asking is about him. So things have gone a little quiet this year, but there's good reasons behind it but from year one year too when you're two to three, he changed big time and you might be right. It might be the contract I think coming off what happened in world series in seventeen with the dodgers really affected him as well big time, and then he comes to the cubs in eighteen huge contract big market. Diehard of bands everywhere expecting the world and you know he was also injured as it turns out so that first year was a mess and then slowly but surely he came out of his show that these interviews in English teammates got the no one better 'cause even in even in eighteen. Teammates I saw with Rizzo hanging out on the road and stuff like he was still tight with teammates but not the saint he wasn't outgoing now he's outgoing and that really is true personality. So it Kinda mimics what he's done the mount he's become self again on the mound as well as in the dugout in the clubhouse and with the media.

"The first ball throwing out the first pitch, and I have to say this was rather impressive on the baseball show, right. There's your first on ESPN 1000. So heading into tonight's game. The Cubs are 18 in 10. Of course, they get the wind yesterday against the Tigers and tonight against the Tigers. That game coming up in just a couple of moments, and you have to ask yourself if you're a Cubs fan, and you look at this team at this point. Abdal and you see what they've done to this point. I think the start of this season was a bit surprising, Lloyd. As we kind of dissect the schedule and kind of really look at what the cubs have brought to the table, we have seen some of the past issues start the pop up. The offense not really hit the way that we've expected. I know. Nine runs yesterday and and two home runs from Harvey buys are a big deal. But really the consistency from that lineup. The consistency fromthe star power that you have at the top of the line up for the Chicago Cubs hasn't necessarily been there. The entire time Starting rotation has been great at times, especially with Yu Darvish. But then we have also seen guys like Mills and Chatwood and even Jon Lester to appoint throughout this season struggle in the first half of your Cubs fan, you look at your team You take into assessment where you're at. Yeah, you're 18 in 10. You're going to get to the playoffs and you're probably going to win the division. A couple of questions would be, though. How far can you actually get in the playoffs? How many teams in the National League are better than the Chicago Cubs? And are the Cubs is playing in a a down division down central this year? Because I think that's where you have the schedule made up of teams within your own division and with the ale Central and you kind of look around, and you're like Yeah, you're also playing. The Tigers were also playing the Royals. You're also playing a division that's not performing toe what we thought it would be heading into. This year. We thought the Brewers would be good. The Cardinals would be good. A lot of people, including myself, picked the Reds to win the division. And all those teams have struggled to some extent. Yeah, I think, Look, you look a do you take anything away from Clemson when they're running, throwing through teams in the A, C C and beat up on cupcakes every year? No, they still make the The college football playoff. So I think you look at the Cubs and yeah, they're flying team, but you can only control what you can control. This is in a year where you have to go out to l A and face the Dodgers until the playoffs. This isn't a year where you face the Astros of the Yankees or any of these other teams. You only play. The team's in front of you. And I think that you know my answer for the M V P so far this season. I understand that Ian half is leading the team in O PS. I understand that his slugging numbers a fight he's like in 5 75. I understand that he's you know, his on base percentage is for 11. I get all that but to me. The M V. P is Yu Darvish? It's got to be you, Darvish because He is anchoring that pitching staff right now that was rocked by the White Sox. He stopped the bleeding for them and his k through nine strikeouts per mining's. He's a 10.7 strikeouts per nine innings. The dude is if you go back to the middle of last season, the dude is flat out pitching. He would probably one of my nominations for if we were doing like mid season awards, like a Cy Young, like he would be the end, I'll Cy Young this year. He's Pitching so well, And it's about time for the amount of money that the Cubs gave them. But ultimately, if you go into a playoff, Siri's and you started the playoffs and Yu Darvish goes to the mound for you first. You're fairly confident that you're gonna be favored in that matchup, and then To have Kyle Hendricks and Jon Lester. Those two guys, beer 12, or you're 23 after that, and who knows what we're going to get from Jose Quintana? That's why I think that the Cubs are still going to be okay in the playoffs, because yes, hitting Khun B. You know, a roller coaster ride of slumping and not something, but if you've got pitching, there's pitching well, and you've got a guy like you, Darvish, who's going Who's going to set the tone for you in Game one. Then and you can win Game one with Yu Darvish and you, even if you win that game, wanted nothing to do one whatever like when they beat the White Sox that sets the tone and winning the next two games put so much more pressure on the other team. That to me. It makes it that much easier for the Cubs, assuming Yu Darvish can keep this up, right? If he keeps pitching like this, then the Cubs have a much easier round in the playoffs. I think Yu Darvish has gone five straight outings where he's given up either No. One runs or one And to this point you remember back to his first start this season on the 25th of July, The Cubs lost that game to the Brewers. 8 to 3. Yu Darvish only pitch four innings six hits. He had three earned runs on Ly the five strikeouts, really his weakest performance, obviously, and the only loss to the date this season. Remember, That's how he started this season. And we all kind of thought to ourselves a man like what happened because, remember in the only that he talked about all the stuff that took place with the Astros and remember, he was very vocal. Before the Astros were accused in caught and everything with them cheating like something was up when he was in the world. Siri's You go over the course of the offseason. Yu Darvish is like His Indicated off the.

"If he was any good this was going to be a transition year. Andi, I don't think it's any different other than the fact that you're right. More teams make the playoffs and right now the other parts of their game are playing great that that gives them a chance. Speaking a Kimbrel You know, it's not like he's got a rag arm. All of a sudden, he's still throwing 96 97. We haven't seen much of him this year rather than that, that one of parents, But Ryan Dempster joined us yesterday and said that in far be it for me to start getting into the mechanics of pitching, but that he's getting under the ball little and that might be part of the problem. I mean, this stuff's good. Is it just a mechanical tweak? And why can't they fix that? At this point, Just Yeah, I mean, David Ross said it was it was rushed on. But that doesn't explain the end of 18. All of 19 right? I just don't think he's as dominant or I don't even think this stuff is as dominant he starts with the little knuckle curve there. That's pretty good. But he wasn't getting it over the plate much the other night on the only got one over on a 31 count. That was a hell of it. Time to throw that pitch. Remember, the rising fastball has has been getting hit, so I think there's there's there's a change going on with enemas. You're going to throw more breaking stuff. And our guy's gonna lay off that and then just just hammer the fastball. When it comes. I mean, it's more complicated than just one thing. It's just this picture that was so dominant with this one pitch the rising fastball and then the offspeed cub is now a little different, and we think we saw that last year. He got hit with that rising fastball, and I mentioned this. The second half of last year hitters started to catch up. That rising pitch because that was the pitch they were using to get over the launch angle guys right, But then all the sun haters adjusted just within 1/2 of baseball, and I think that's all swirling around in his head. Andi, I don't think so. I think it's off speed is as good as ever. I don't think it's fast, boys. I don't care what the gun says. Okay. You tonight. I mean, you know Trying to predict which Yu Darvish they're going to get is that's a monumental task, isn't it? Seems to be. It hasn't changed. That's why everybody that was excited going into this year Bottom. I said, Look, he's a Let's prove it first guy. You could go out on a limb and say he's gonna win the Cy Young. But you're gonna look silly as people did when he signed with the Cubs. I think he has to prove it before you actually believe in them completely on Ly guy through the rotation that didn't go for it go asleep five innings that includes Jon Lester. Who still building up his arm strength. He went five innings and and gave up. No hit with a rain like exactly to start the game right before being pulled, so Yeah, I you know, he put starfish. At least I said this the other day to you guys. I think the floor is at least hire. You know, he's not gonna walk seven in and out in which you know he was on the verge of doing almost every time out, Couple years back, so, but the feeling he has got to get closer to that feeling, right? He's just not reaching it right now. I expect better than four innings, weather permitting, if they get that came in. He's the only guy through the rotation that didn't really excel. First time through any update on the marlin situation. Boy, That is interesting. Think about what's gone on. They've been kind of the guinea pigs here about how contagious this thing is the incubation period. They've had someone test positive every single day since last Friday. Now they're trying to trace back. I think that the Alfaro was the patient zero and then trying to trace back to where he got out and a Nightingale's report that he was out in a club somewhere a bar in Atlantic. It's unclear First of all he tested He took his test Wednesday and tested positive Friday. They were out in the club if they were out clubbing. I don't know that they were. That would have been Tuesday night. He didn't get infected Tuesday night and then test positive Wednesday. So I think he got it before all that happened now it could. It could be a coincidence. He got it down in Miami. The other guy's got it in Atlanta that beheld a coincidence. I think he was patient zero and he spread it around. But listen, this nugget that hasn't been released. They apparently are going to bust the infected players from Philadelphia. Back down to Miami tomorrow, getting sleeper bus right? It's 20 plus hours on a bus, but you know you might be able to make it 15 or 16 and a car sleeper bus for the infected players. I don't know what that means for the bus driver is seen as Matt suit, but that's that's what's going on for them with the Marlins. And from there, I think they're going to play Baltimore next week. You know, they're not going to be home for a long time. The Marlins the ones that are healthy, That is so I think they're climbing one just found in Miami and the healthy ones stay in Philly for now. How were they going to make up these games? I mean, they they can't can they? Not all of them, not all of them, and that's the thing they say. I didn't know that till yesterday. They have said that they're not going Tio have every team play 60 games. They're just going to go buy win percentage, and I think that's crazy. But that's what they're talking about doing. Haven't they done it before? They've gone by 1% Get in 81 right during the strike shortened year, they did it. Is that right? Yes. They did it in a T one. So I didn't I didn't even remember that. So that was all news to me. The fact that they could do this with win percentage. I mean, if the integrity of this thing is teetering, right, it really is. And I'm not sure the marlin players did something wrong or they just Happened, and that's what they're trying to find out. Did they break protocols? Here's the thing. They probably broke protocols in some capacity for the thing to spread within the clubhouse, meeting somebody or play multiple players didn't have a mask on when they should have. Maybe out in the full panel, maybe on the plane. I'm not. You know you could blame them. And certainly the Cubs seem to have be a team that has followed all the protocols. But it's hard, man. It's hard. One guy gets it. You don't know he has. It spreads around. You're gonna blame all the players. I'm not sure you you know you could come down to our cubs have done a good job. I mean, the Reds have sort of been propped up as an example of this is the white players need to police themselves and handle it sends Ella and Moustakas. I didn't feel well, it turns out they just had some sort of weird, 24 hour bug. I mean, right now, though, you feel sick and everybody assumes up. It's got to be covert. And they did the right thing. I think it was most doctors who had said You know, under normal circumstances you wake up in the morning. You don't feel good, big deal. You go to the park and you play, but they did the right thing in Cincinnati, so teams are proving that it can work. If everybody just follows the protocols, I guess, Chris Bryant said last night after the game. He thanked Miss dockets for doing the right thing. And that's kind of interesting. Thank Miss Takis for speaking up because You know, he had to jump through a lot of protocols to get back on the field. So is there are other guys going to speak up if they just feel a little bit out of it? Chris Bryant hopeful and so are a lot of guys. So this thing is just walking a tightrope between now and October for sure. No. The Marlins. Maybe it's an isolated case. Maybe they get through the Marlins thing. The Phillies are seemed to be a little bit infected, You know, not not a lot of players, but clubhouse personnel. If they can get past that, you know who knows? But it underlined the fact that you have to follow the protocols. Alright, just good work we appreciate will talk to next week. Okay, guys, take care of the year. I just There's Jesse Rogers. Good. "But they've gotta work this magic if this team's going to be able to score runs and actually get good starting pitching from guys like Alec Mills, Tyler Chatwood Jon Lester on his last legs. We'll see who Yu Darvish is tonight. We'll see. Look, he makes 20 whatever 1,000,000 a year. Yu Darvish need gets 21 million. Obviously prorated this year. I know Hey, needs to be the Yu Darvish of the second half of last year. He needs to be the Yu Darvish. They thought they were getting when they signed him a couple of years ago. So Just I'm just telling you, man. I'm not overreacting that love Kyle Hendricks. He's one of my favorite players. One of my favorite guys have dealt with He waas. Not good last night. I wasn't And if you're going to be a top of the rotation guy, you've got to bring more consistency there. I don't want to hear what Cincinnati on pitch. Well, they're sorry you haven't The point also is he's not Mitchell for Biscuit. You know what I mean? It's like he had a bad outing that happens to starting pitchers. How many games does a starting pitcher starting an average season? In a regular thirties. Start 10 pitches. Do you expect him to go? 10? Oh, No, but I expect consistency through those 10 starts. Maybe one bad one. All right, And he had a bad day. I mean, yeah, it's also early in the season they had They had spring training in February. Then they had to call it off. Then they had summer camp. It's an unusual year for him. Who knows how his arm felt after they complete game? There's a lot of variables and to go from one extreme to the other on Kyle Hendricks. I mean, on Monday, we were talking about Kyle Hendricks like he was going to win the Cy Young. Yesterday as a bad outing and we're ready to say, boy. Oh, boy, we need more from Kyle Hendricks. He's got to bring more. Kyle Hendricks, in my opinion, is a cub fan after 2016 pitching in high leverage games has earned the benefit of the doubt. I'm upset. They didn't win upset. He didn't pitch better, but I'm not going to get upset about Kyle Hendricks. And I'm not going to make Kyle Hendricks the topic of the reason the Cubs in win yesterday. There's only one reason that the Cubs didn't win yesterday. And that's the bullpen. I can't a guy. I can't let you go on that. No, Danny Look. Yes, The bullpen was awful. And that was the main target of my wrath. Yes. What When you automatically hand the ball to a bad bullpen with the bases loaded, and it's already for nothing against Sonny Gray, who's a beast? It's a 37th straight game. He hasn't given up more than six hits 37. Now that's consistency. Did the Cubs rally. No offense. Got it to 9 to 5. Okay? And I guess what they did, but in Naples Company of those nine runs it was Kyle Hendricks responsible for of the nine. He was responsible for 66 of them. They got him back in the game. If it wasn't for the bullpen. This team could have won that game. They they had the juice in the battery, agreed that the bullpen of his problem it was the bullpen agree. Let me ask you a question Last year when things were not going great for the Cubs was the bullpen and issue then 100%. And at the end of this season, bullpen issues right 100%. Kimbrel issues the whole way through 1%. What did they do this offseason? Tio, help that bullpen. What did they do? Chris? They signed Rex Brothers. Dan Winkler. Ryan. Great Pera. I thought I ate some Shrimp two pair of the other night, but he's a pitcher apparently temporarily didn't have to do anything, guys because Craig Kimbrel was going to get to have his regular spring training, you know, last year Craig Kimbrel suck because he started the middle of the season. It was a regular form. It wasn't normal. But now Greg Kimble got to work his way into. You know the groove, and he shaved his beard and He was ready to roll for the $43 million this is what's great about the 60 games scheduled because all of these games matters. So at one side of it, I think, like, have your way overreacting about the bullpen because we already knew that they were bad. King into the season that that was a part of why we're saying that the Cubs may not win their division, but they may make the playoffs because the bullpen we know this. So now you gotta get good starting pitching to go with line up to the line up sitting right now and hundreds to give you one good start. I wouldn't go over the deep end about one bad start from Hendricks I fully active into actually in that direction is a trend, which is not good in the short sample size. But we knew the bullpen was going to be this bad. Just like yesterday. I was on the zoom for the Bears throughout most of the show, but you were going over over the top about how yesterday is a must win for the White Sox. It wasn't it wasn't almost win. It was a nice win. Manufactured a win against bad team. I like that. I like what I saw from bummer and column at the end. That was nice. I like Robert. A little right up former heaven must be eyes. I like that. Giolito. Fantastic. You know, what would have been bigger issue is three games against the Royals this weekend, They lost two of three. That would be major problems for the white sides. Last night was our must win. Just like you shouldn't be that surprised that the Cubsbullpen is trash. We knew that they were trash. Well, then, now you have to get excellent. Starting pitching in your lineup has to mash. That's the key. That's how the Cubs are gonna win games. This bullpen is good, because here's a problem and any this one pointing out Happy. You're relying on this bullpen to be fantastic. They're not going to be that so it's going to be each and every day you're going to be coming in here. Screaming into the mic is a bullpen socks. We know they suck. You got to get very production either from the lineup or better starting pitching. That's a key to your season. "But if it's last year's guy, then you're going to be losing a lot of well and you bridge the gap with the guys that you've You put in there? Look who do you have confidence in the cubsbullpen? Do you know? Now he's in your bullpen throwing left handed giving up home runs to Robert on hanging. I don't know. But I listen again again. I think you're closer. Maybe the biggest issue on your team at this point. If you highlighted an issue that would be the thing that would scare me most is a comfort if you're given him the ball every time when you've got a lead, Kimbrel look the same issue that he struggled with last year, not having a spring training. And he may tell you differently. It's almost identical, isn't it? I mean not identical, but the interruption and not having the full spring to get yourself going. Don't you see some similarities between what he dealt with last year not being signed in the exact same thing, So it's no spring training. He was able, it wasn't able to overcome it. Last year, he's a year older. I would be concerned that this year will be more of what we saw last year. That would be my biggest concern. He has an awful spring training in two years. I'm not saying I trust Kimbrel, but I'm almost more concerned. About 345 in the Cubs irritation without container like I don't know Lester's 36 now I don't know. Of course, they're all valid concerns. And then after that, I mean the Alec Mills and Tyler Chatwood. I mean, it is Yu Darvish really number two and I think you'll be. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. I think I truly think he was going to be very good. But like it could be the perfect small, small sample or stretch guy where you know I have to ask him to go. 30 starts. Listen, So you are not buying Sylvie the second half that he had for you guys and I'm hopeful. I'm hopeful. I'm just saying Watteau brought it up the other day. It's cute that he throws nine pitches and he can look filthy. 85 90% of the time. But a lot of times at the end of the day, you'll still look up and he still is a four e R A. Is he? A slow starter is I mean consistently? I know. Last year he got off to a slow start, but I think last year was Half the band was off. It was half about getting back to being healthy from this year. Yeah, he's had some really good seasons in his career. I think I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with you. So you bring up a lot of good points the cut When you look at the Cubs, are they offensively is good as the individuals they're the exact opposite of a lot of teams. They've got good individual talent. Who they don't. They're not a great offense. And then can you count on 345 in the rotation? Can you count on your bridge? Guys to get to the clothes should be a good offense. I mean, whether they are they are, they should be based on have they been a good offensive last two years? They work well with didn't bring guys in. That's what I'm saying that that was another good example that this guy vying for a spot on the White Sox lose it. Anderson on the ropes. And how many runs they score against him, too. So I look, it is not so to answer your point. This is not me looking at five innings of baseball and saying Okay, This is the way it's going to be, but a lot of the things were reminders. Okay, are the code is the Cubs offense? As good as we hoped for for the last three years where they going to underachieve. Do they have strong enough? Starting pitching is their bullpen. Deep enough. For a 60 game sprint where you're not going to get long outings from the starters, and then the white sacks sort of reminded you that Hey, Oh, my gosh. I forgot how good and young and fun this team could be. It's sort of like two ships crossing in the night. We'll see where they go. I think it's going to be a very interesting baseball season. I'm with you. Listen, I got Javi Rizzo, Bryant Contreras and Schwarber. You should be able to score runs with that group. Yeah, Victor Care Teenies air really good, Um, hitter who can play multiple positions? I mean, listen, those names or to those guys need to be a hell of a lot more productive than they were the last year. 3123323776 So what was your thought watching? Last night. Whether was emotion of having baseball back. What are your thoughts on your teams this year, and they play again tonight? What about the fake crowd? Noise in the background will hear how the rate will sound tonight and one of the dumber new APS out there to play into the fake noise will tell you about coming up. "This was the talking about Yu Darvish and how excited he is for his season yeah I'm really excited about what he can do I mean this is a special cat with a baseball in his hand and and yeah that's how it's always been there but yeah he's he's he's he's a human being and so there are other things that have to line up you know yeah obviously it's got to be physically healthy he's got to feel good about himself he's gotta use the stuff the right way it's got to be comfortable and got to be confident and he went through all the credit to him an incredible transformations mid season last year where things started on the mental side we're yet to serve yeah look in the mirror a little bit decide what he wanted to do we got back in the weight room which help them physically and mentally feel good about himself made some adjustments with you know certain pitches and the waves using certain patches and became a really confident comfortable individual out there is you know he's got this yeah world class ability top five pitcher in the world what he can do in the baseball you saw those results in the second half into his credit you know he did it all without some really having a dominant fastball again against the specially as left handed batters took self to the said Sam wow if I can recreate what I did last second half that be amazing now he wants to be better and that was the best fastball I've ever seen him out of the other day and it's the first time out in spring training so I think you have you know really intellectually curious that play with a lot to prove and film film really good about himself a clicking on all cylinders is one of bubble wrap them again about their games accountant bubble wrap so he's obviously excited about you Darvish yet the fast ball the other day I think I read was sitting pretty consistently between like ninety six and ninety eight for his first start that's pretty good and you know Europe said they they're gonna need you Darvish to be big time big boy E. like you know prime Texas Rangers Yu Darvish if they're gonna win this thing and if they're gonna compete their division they're just gonna simply have to have that happen Jon Lester can't carry this for attention anymore and now they're competing in after say ten games over five hundred cars yeah you know becoming middle July all star break in there and first or their closed ours why would you blow it up why would you take Kris Bryant mobile we went in I don't like very compete for a war a World Series I don't you don't think you would I had you know hold on yeah I think yeah the cubs are competitive and everything set out all sores Ian apps evidence of the year yeah Asia is having his normal year Schwarber's having his normally thirty eight home runs for trials for pleasure he led the team home runs even in a bag was about a little bit even in a bad year for first probably get you thirty at least might even if he's bad and soda pop amount yeah I'll still have thirty home run the chamber office it became difficult to hit home runs while the rest of the league was blown out of the park shorter still perform for it yeah my biggest concern about the white Sox being able to chase down the twins I mean maybe it's just the twins are too good I mean they are like I said they're gonna slugged their way to a lot of wins again I would anticipate regardless of what we all think about their pitching in the quality there and if it's deep enough they just have an offense up and down that can really really had and so I would think they set a record last year even with a little regression if they have a bad year they win ninety games like where they're at right now in in my my I don't wanna say fear because I I think if the white Sox want when eighty four games I think that's a huge positive step in the right direction you wouldn't you would have improved by twelve games it's a big jump I don't think the white Sox pitching is good enough yet to really hang with some of the big boys in the American League and I've gotten to a point where I feel pretty good about you know but other than that you know Kopech still gonna be coming back slowly and you're probably talking about some sort of restriction on him come the end of the year I mean who knows even if they're in the playoff chase in September your car from can you may imagine if they make the Placerville even be able to pitch they might pull Washington nationals from six years and once I can do it you're not pitching St Stephen Strasberg I'm sorry we do not ship would you be slowing them down in August and September it looks like you might get in she's said let the you can do that are you want to save them you can do that so I you know I you can't really count on like a full dominance is in a contact yet see still has a lot of developing to do run although Lopez who the hell knows row downs always heard Dallas Crichel is nice but Dallas Crichel to me is almost like in a sense he's kinda like a younger Jon Lester he's not quite as accomplished as John although he does have a sigh warnings got a World Series but you know he doesn't really miss bats anymore in an era when fits comfortably behind G. lido yesterday you're not expecting him to be a one you're expecting him to he should fit comfortably behind you should fit comfortably as a three I mean like that's the thing you know you you've got a picture that is going to rely more on as hawk would say cunning and guile a lot of ground balls good defense behind him hopefully because he's not going to miss bats he just isn't going to do it anymore and that's why I didn't the like to me if madrigal can kind of forced the hand their hand a little bit and he can get here quickly that's going to be your best defense right on your infield with Moncada hopefully with Tim Anderson with with madrigal at second and Roberton center that's going to be what Dallas Crichel needs and that's going to be what he thrives on three one two three three two three seven seven six we're talking baseball gonna talk baseball day Carmen I try with Carmen you're not going to make a wager share on Comstock's you'll become shock should be total victories it'll be a hundred do I get up it'll be able to get do you get what do I get a few games and although some like identical no because yeah because Vegas as an identical vague Vegas knows yeah it's a hundred dollars and the difference and will have more white Sox as one to watch I know we have paid K. our topic one hundred dollar difference I'm not doing that eighty eight eighty five it's only three hundred dollars I'm not doing that's not that's not even sure he doesn't March think about it what it three hundred three dollars again we'd wager on the year it's a bit for the full season Asia at six months guys the cubs could go out and still win ninety four games that's not like totally out of the realm of possibility one of the lights actually the perfect area numbers call arm come alive did you have any faith you talk about every single day you gotta have faith I amble with my head and not my heart your heart I try I mean I I something tells me that I'm on the wrong side of wipes and I got a one two three three two three seven seven six because the guy gets out on the golf course we're gonna play friendly scratching all sent a hundred dollars a point of like wait a minute I got I get lists were having fun its baseball I've got wages already out there I've got which is already being made you lie versus this guy I got you versus a shorter you got a bigger bang all right let's face it you give up forty five percent to well that was already gone that's already gone I kiss that goodbye in the process of reinventing myself gonna you you got that NFL money still I know you were that you were to come a man at one point I understand but I I can't wait I think the baseball summer in this city is going to be absolutely fantastic I think both teams are trained about five hundred but it's just how much about five hundred minimize losing streaks when you get a little bit jammed up depending upon the quality competition you're gonna play I think it's gonna be fantastic summer you tease this too what do the cubs or what don't okay Hobbs Anthony Rizzo I've heard this in the past out of people yeah he's thirty okay thirty turns thirty one on eighth result turns thirty one August eighth that's correct thirty June next year the cubs got two options on what option is sure one option this year next year both at sixteen and a half million I've heard it out of camp smile if you're I've heard out of other people's miles that day are they going to redo Anthony Rizzo's contract my answer as for what for Y. again he signed a contract a number of years ago that paid him seventy million over the course of years its contract he agreed to why in the world what I offer Anthony Rizzo once he's thirty two is your go to is your thirty three the year that everybody says that's the year they start declining in all of a sudden nominal what paid him for past performance I'm gonna pay you now a lot of money for what you did before there's no rewarding ratio agreed to his contract he signed that contract I if I'm Rizzo I'm not waiting around the club house wait for somebody to you know tap on the shoulder and say Hey let's go sign the next contract upstairs that's not going to happen if anything starts going sour for the Chicago Cubs and it doesn't look like you're gonna have that the name that's after Kris Bryant leaving town if there are five hundred and the fourth in the division is going to be that guy yeah I mean there is always somebody who's in the playoffs yeah my lost somebody resumes the next guy out of town yeah the player decides when and if they want to sign contracts has Anthony Rizzo outperformed his contract of course I need to reserve signed it Chris sale outperformed his last contract your guess what Boston give a big extension and now we might miss the season because he's getting older there's more wear and tear on his arm in white Sox rewarded by sending out of town that's how the White Sox awarded him I'd get I'd be in favor of the cubs if they're struggling rewarding him by sending him out of town will play out I understand these outperformers contract but that's the contract he signed that was a decision at the original made some guys decide to wait Kris Bryant could be deciding to wait he might just say no I'm good and you might lose that campaign he might he might win big eight U. Q. can't second guess it though if you decide as a player you make up your mind and then you go with it and it might not be that Kris Bryant doesn't want to be in Chicago or that he might just be I'd like to get the free agency and I'd like to see if I can get a three hundred million dollar contract if that's what he's choosing so be it he has the right to choose the cubs old results this year's salary and if they choose next year's salary yes it's not a overnight yes that was that our two million dollar buyout after that they don't know nothing three one two three three two three seven seven six if you want to jump in we'll do some training next Jesse Rogers will join us at one o'clock and also coming up make it to a few of the bright spots that I've seen on the Blackhawks lately although it doesn't really matter in the standings because it's too little too late with just sixteen games to go there still six point out but there been a couple great bright spots out of the young players on this line up in this lineup last couple games that we're going to discuss coming up in just a little bit we'll do some training next you're listening to Carmen in your coat on ESPN.

Yu Darvish of Chicago Cubs will miss rest of the season with elbow, triceps injuries

"We must have must address Darvish done for the season It's not a stress fracture but it's the the. Preliminary feelings of stress fracture he's out six weeks will put him to. The end of the year no more Yu Darvish for. The Chicago, Cubs this season and the I guess the good part is the ligament that was repaired from his. Tommy John surgery is fine so he will not. Need any Tommy John surgery he'll just have to deal with this and should be back for next year because the philosophy is if he has, to have Tommy John surgery he's out, for a whole 'nother year then you lose him for two years essentially of his contract and then. Futures up in the, air but now you know it's not. That he was being soft there was there's something wrong something was found and gave reason to. Why he was in pain and this is why you Darvish may very well in a short matter of time become one of the most polarizing players for us to watch Chicago sports fans since Jay Cutler Because we until now haven't known whether or not he was actually hurt or if he couldn't handle the moment right and that allows people, to speculate on the character of the, player now he's hurt so he's going to be done for the season but it's something that's always. Going to be in, the back of your mind as he. Comes back from rehabbing this into next season will ever pitch in a big game for the. Chicago Cubs
