"We might even have a new version tomorrow. Well, you know, usually when these things get rushed through it like this is so that we don't notice some of the finer points. So so my guess is there must be There must be something in there that either would be considered controversial or something that maybe the state would not want them to do that. They want to do. And therefore we'll we'll just kind of sneak this through. Well in this goes hand in hand with another item that is being rushed through, which is the appointment of a county administrator. We need that for streamlined efficiency. We saw that argument and star wars where they appointed the Supreme Chancellor of the Republic. So we're about to have this county administrator is going to have the authority to hire and fire all of our department heads if they don't come into compliance. And that county administrator is going to be voted upon and decided by the majority of the five numbers of court. Someone essence. Three people are going to get to decide the person who's going to have the hiring and firing capacity. Bureaucracy and its finest over all of the county functions. Um, where there is a department head now. We did get an amendment late yesterday night before Basically indicated that that maybe we're not going to include elected officials in the, uh, in this new county administrators role, But once again, it's a power grab. And we be on mission, omnipotent all knowing are going to dictate to other folks who are public servants and to you how we're going to run a county government. Well, you know, let me get your thoughts on this Jack Cable, because that's that Seems like we're at the very least, regardless of how you feel about the power grab or not a power grab its redundancy at its finest. Um, you know most you know, I've lived in enough different places to see whole sorts of different forms of county government in Virginia, where I was in Central Virginia. They have an account administrator. They were not elected. They were appointed, but it was their job to do what the what? In this case, what the Harris County judge is supposed to do. That position is really county administrator just has the title of judge on it. So why are we were going to have to County administrators now Yes, and and part of it in our budget officer already has many of the functions that you see county administrators elsewhere hat but by appointing a county administrator You can Hire and fire people without it coming back. You know, we've we've fired three Really qualified individuals who are doing their jobs in the game. Let's say we on a 32 vote. Uh and we've now driven our flood control director out of office. And there's some pushback on that. These were confident people who were doing a good job. But if you can say Oh, the county administrator fired that person and not us on a on a vote. Where the publicans see the vote. You can claim efficiency and you can claim transparency. But the only transparent thing is is you get to blame somebody else for doing your dirty work for you. Your hands aren't on the murder weapon. You just hired the murderer to do it. Wow. Okay. How do you How do you think this You think it's going to be three to vote on all this stuff? Just the way it has been on just about everything lately. You know, I'm hoping that one of my colleagues will see the light and see that this is not good for the county bureaucracy is not better, you know, and focusing on the basics of public service and having people come Voting on issues that come before the public so that the people can see it. And how about you know where we talk about and shutting down? I 45 we talked about needing public engagement. More letters and more time and yet here we are radically reorganizing and refraining County government and we give the public From Friday night to a Tuesday morning with multiple versions in between. "Man deserves. How is this? Not? How was yesterday night? International Ice cream Truck Driver Day I'm about the everyday American Joe. Hard working guys. It's hot outside. They're wearing their white jackets with their white pants and their white shoes with their white hat, and they're peddling good ice cream out there. Every single day. I mean, you think it's fun driving around? Just listen to this song actually is probably very fun, isn't it? Kids just read. Stop! Stop! Mom! Palm! The ice cream truck stop. The tones kind of work with that, too. I kind of like it. So I opened my question tonight. You tell us the best ice creams to get from the ice cream truck. I've got my top five here. And I will start at number five in that open. Micro mentioned it is the push pop as a kid. The Orange Sherbert Flintstones push Pop had to have it when the ice cream truck stopped in front of the house on Harding Street there in Chicago. Absolutely had to have it. The Sherbert Flintstones push crop. I'll never forget it. Number four, this one. Seldom mention forgotten quite a bit. It's overlooked. The snow cone. Snow cone. It's got to be up there and you can tell the mood of the ice cream man. This is why they deserve their own day. You can tell the mood of the ice cream man based upon Whether or not you got a lot of that snow cone flavoring or you got just a little bit. You know, the guy likes you. If you've got a lot of that cherry and a lot of that raspberry, so I've got that number four number three. Fudge bar. Delicious, chocolatey chocolatey. Delicious. Just heavy chocolate ice cold sticks to your tongue. Yes, think I think the toughest thing, though the fudge bars that first fight Mhm where you're just like, Well, you don't know. Do I do? How do you attack this? Necessarily? You're right. I mean, so I agree with you sticks to the tongue. Sometimes maybe makes your teeth hurt because of how cold it is. Fudge Bar number three. By the way, it's raining. We're in Storm center number two. Taco Taco Open mic. Her mentioned it. Chako Taco is up in the top two from you. I did not know what the Chako Taco was until I got ice cream with my wife. The ice cream truck showed up and she said, I'll take the Chako taco. I thought that was fake. Not a real thing. I was like, Honey, that's fake news. What is the Chako thing? It is real and it is spectacular. Jerry the Chako taco..

We can't get in if we had done this process early enough. We could have gotten tickets and we could have gotten in y if you're under twenty one but since this was literally thought of like yesterday night we're not gonna get to go to that but a bunch of her brother and a bunch of kids doing like dinner and pictures before and then afterwards at her house. They're doing a party in the guys are gonna sleep over there and stuff so we're going to join in on that we're gonna get all dressed up we're gonna take the pictures and we'll just do everything but the dance essentially so it's kind of like what they did on big bang theory when they went back in time and did the yeah basically it. Well we actually have a fake dance on the roof. Either but it'll be kind of hard because what else slanted really bad. And that would be weird. I mean we try and make it work. Do a fake dance. Maybe at the when you can't you can't you can't do that so anyway but i get up at four in the morning and by the way he would get up at four in the morning for anything except for his girlfriend or celebrities or anything pop culture so there you are right there. "Mr New York. Mark Simone 7 10 W. O R. 103 2107 10 is the number. Look at this. The playground the little Children's playground in Sag Harbor out in the Hamptons. Parents got alarmed because there was Anthony Weiner wandering around the playground with his kid with the sun on. He wasn't wearing a mask. You think if you were the convicted pedophile, the notorious Anthony Weiner You think you'd want to wear a mask? Although they say when people showed up, he put it on. But you think you'd want to wear because you wouldn't want to be spotted. So this Anthony Weiner, you know, apartment in Soho. He's in Sag Harbor lives pretty well for a convicted pedophile out of prison. But that's a work release feel that he's got What? What does he actually do out there? Do we know what he does? He takes care of the son. I don't know. He's got some rich friends somewhere. Well, his brother for the family's. He's also still married to that wacky What's the name of cameramen? Huma Rama Huma Abedin, who is basically just a glorified gofer for Hillary, but they pair well cause She has to keep quiet about a lot of stuff. Anyway. Let's take some calls. Let's go to Jerry in Philadelphia. Hey, Jerry. Morning, Mark. Thanks for taking my call again. I work a lot of smart people in the media predicting horrific, unrestricted political warfare the next 2.5 months what your crystal ball is gonna have to when this screening minorities. Piss off the silent majority and wake him up with your crystal balls. All right. Well, good question. Thanks for calling Joe Bartlett. What the hell did he just say what you want in the question? No, not Feli. Don't worry. Let's go to David Chicago. Hey, Dave. Good morning mark last night, Michelle Obama says vote as if your life depended on it. Well, you know what she's right, because, as you said at the top of the broadcast Democrat lead cities with alluding the writing the arsons, people's wides are wiped out. And then you look at Donald Trump's record, and he's a stock market has hit record high. We have historic peace treaties in the Middle East. Obamacare has been destroyed just like Isis and has been replaced with new health care, and there's no safety. We have the strongest military in the world and we're respected around the world again. So she's right, Mr Obama. Oh, she's right. Good life depended on it. Thanks for calling Dave Joe Bartlett. I guess. The big line, which is being quoted the most from Michelle Obama speech is that Donald Trump is not up to the task. He can't meet the moment he's not much to it. So what she is saying to America is he's not up to it. But we have a comatose man in the wheelchair doesn't know where he is. We have a brain dead ruling Thiss guy is up to Trump was in seven cities yesterday night beaches, jumping on planes doing rallies running home. We got a guy who can't come out of his house who's in his basement in a wheelchair. He's up to it. Don't worry. Let's go to Ah Marie and Long Island. Hey, Marie. I don't know how anyone could vote for the Democratic Party when they act so childish they criticized they call President Trump named our country Needs doesn't need a bully. It actually needs leadership. And that's what we have with President Trump and I I don't know who could vote Democrats with everything going on. All right, Marie. Thanks for going. That's the other big line is you remember her famous line when they go low? We go high. That's the dumbest line ever. So last night, she said, we go high. I just watched three hours You called Trump every name in the world. You called him an idiot. A racist moron this of that. He's just call them names for three hours. Then she comes up when they go low. We go high. Well, I'd love to see her idea going low. That all started when Hillary was going into her second debate. And remember, Trump did Okay in the first debate. He didn't really kill her in the first debate. It was he didn't win. The first debate was OK, but he didn't win it. So then Michelle did that famous line about when they go low. We go high, So I think Steve Bannon first came up with the idea. You know what? Let's go low. Let's go so low that Hillary will be in a mud fight that she's never been in her life. You won't know what to do. And that was the famous second debate where they brought Juanita Broaddrick, Paula Jones. They put him right in the front row to stare at Hillary and they decided to go so low into the mud. They decided to turn it into professional wrestling because they knew Hillary is completely out of her element. Trump will be fine in that environment. Hillary has never been in a conversation like that in her life. That was the one where he said, lock her up. You'd be in jail. She didn't know what the hell to say. So I don't know if you want great advice on how to win. Never listen to Michelle Obama. It doesn't work. But again, I think the big problem facing and they better fix this. We'll go over and few minutes. What's coming up tonight? A better address. The American cities being looted, burned crime waves out of control, right? They better address that. "Support yesterday night cowering supported So I was reading this article today about this. Producer Arianna Peppery, I believe is her name If I'm saying that correctly. Resigned from MSNBC with an open letter accusing the news network of predicated its editorial process on ratings and alleging that its model blacks diversity of thought and content because the networks have incentive to amplify fringe voices. And events. Right. So this is coming from the left side of the of the argument, Okay, I've been on the right side of the argument. I didn't have a contract renewed because they said, we really have to have somebody that's going to be Maura loyal to Trump. This is the conversation ahead. I said, Where do you see this? He said. Look, we think you're really talented. We think you're really great, but this is a conservative station. Right. And I'm a pretty middle middle of the road guy. You know, I don't see people kicked out of their houses with you. No evictions Aaron Cho, but at the same time, I also recognize landlords can't lose any money, right? So I understand both sides, whereas what they want and talk radio is to say People are paying the bills. They're all squatters. Then you'd be kicked out on the street and homelessness is a problem. And, ah, the homeless need to get a home that they can't pay for. And then you start paying the landlord. So you know what I mean. It's like this convoluted circular argument that goes on in talk radio so often. It's all been so frustrated with that. But then I get this Buffone who ends up in a field of 17 Republican candidates, You know we're covering the election. And he ends up winning the nomination. I was just like you gotta be kidding me. And then and then we came so obvious. This guy's corrupt down to the down was bones. And you're not allowed to say anything about it. I thought this is garbage. And they said Look, our audience is extreme house in Arizona, right? So I'm in Arizona. And this is where you know the aim on Bundy Clan has family down there. These the guys that took over the the Mueller Ah Wildlife refuge in Oregon few years back. Remember that? So we're dealing with these guys down there. And they were doing the anti Muslim rallies and stuff like this, and I'm going. You've got to be kidding me. They go. Listen, We've got to cover that. I said, Yeah, we should cover which talk about these racist turds that are walking amongst us to go. No, no, no, no, no. We have to talk about the dangers of the Muslims in her community. I'm going. You got to be joking. So my contract comes up for renewal, and we think we're going to see if there's anybody else out there that might fit the station brand a little bit better. I said, You know what? I think it's gonna work out for both of us. So we went. Our separate ways was very amicable. No, I got along with everybody. I was so frustrated because they were making these decisions based on how do we appeal to the fringe? And now I see what MSNBC the least this producer claims. That's what was happening as well. Area peppery, was working as a producer for last word with Lawrence O'Donnell. Another website, she said. My colleagues are very smart people with good intentions. The problem is the job itself. It forces skilled journalists to make bad decisions on a daily basis. She continues. It's possible that I'm more sensitive to the editorial process. Due to my background in public radio, where no decision I ever witnessed was predicated on how a topic or guest would rate the longer I was an MSNBC. The more I saw such choices. It's practically baked into the editorial process, and those decisions affect news content every day. Likewise is taboo to discuss how the reigning scheme distorts content or simply taken for granted because everybody in the commercial broadcast news industry is doing the exact same thing. She says behind closed doors. Industry leaders will admit the damage that's being done and I have to tell you the same thing. I see it, too. I have, and I'm not gonna throw names out there because, frankly, I have a lot of respect for these individuals, and they're in a tough spot because radio so many radio companies have been in some real financial difficulty here over the last 20 years or so. But the head of a major radio news network is a friend of mine. And I said When I was struggling with the station's contract thing. I said. What would you do? He goes, I'd replace you. I appreciated that. He was very frank with me, too. So, you know I'm a zoo. I look at it from the station standpoint, if that's the brain they want. I'm not going to live up to their brand. And I said, but is that the brand of the station should be having that They're going to be this far right extremist Muslims. They're scary. You know the government's going to steal our guns Scare the old lady's radio station. And he says, No, it's not. But that's where the money is. I said, is that where the money is going to be long term, he said No. As long as Russia's alive. That's where the money is. That's the format. There's no breaking away from that. Because if you do all of sudden, you're inconsistent. So this is the conundrum that media is facing right now. And I have to tell you, I worry about it. Trust in media has eroded more than you know, to the lowest point it's ever been right now. Trust in media is horrible. Now. Some of that is because you had politicians telling you not to trust the media. So you had this sort of battle of loyalty. Don't trust the media. Don't trust the media. Don't trust the media. Don't trust the media, which, incidentally, much of that First of all, Nixon was big on that. But rush push so much of that, right. So here you've got this major radio personality telling you don't trust the voices that you hear in media,.

India-China clash: 20 Indian troops killed in Ladakh fighting

"Why did Chinese and Indian troops fight in a remote valley along their shared border this happened high up in the Himalayas with thousands of troops from both countries have been stationed for decades at least twenty Indian troops died in the fighting and China won't disclose how many casualties it suffered for some explanation we've got NPR's Emily Feng in Beijing and NPR's India correspondent Lauren Frayer on the line learn this is a very specific part of the world the very remote part of the world what's this place like and what does India say happens there right so no well this is at fourteen thousand feet up in the Himalayas subzero temperatures there's almost no civilian population there and so that we have to rely on the two militaries to tell us what happened and they have different versions of the story both say the other started it we do know it was hand to hand combat with stones and wooden clubs because they have this agreement not to carry guns in that borders on an Indian Army colonel is among the dead India has been building a road in the area that could be used to deploy a future troops more quickly China may see that as a provocation both sides have been pouring in more troops and building more infrastructure there recently and so that's led to some scuffles in recent weeks have also been some high level military talks as recently as last weekend actually to try to defuse tensions but you know the opposite appears to have happened okay so that's from India's perspective Emily you're in Beijing what is China saying about what happened China says it bears no responsibility for what happened and it says it was Indian soldiers who first crossed into this no-man's land that separates the troops stationed in this valley yesterday night China's military put out a statement in which they accused Indian troops of cloak deliberately launching a provocative attack and big knowledge that tensions have been simmering for a while I spoke to retired colonel and and China's army his name is you have gone about why he thinks this clash happened here sure I'm not sure sure sure gallantry you know it's also one of them he said it was inevitable given tensions that people were going to die in a border clash between India and China and he put the blame on Indian prime minister Modi's who as a leader he said taking a more aggressive expansionary approach colonel yeah believes like many people in China that India provoked this clash so they could score points with more nationalistic voters in India and as Lawrence of we don't have that many details about what actually happened unlike India China's been very real to to share any information I asked the foreign ministry today white they can't give us casualty numbers and they said verbatim they didn't need to why is this so sensitive in China most likely it's because Chinese soldiers were killed in the clash and that's an embarrassing and very rare occurrence China's military last night admitted that there were casualties in general stemming from this clash but they didn't say which side in which they occurred China also says they're not releasing casualty numbers because they don't want to infuriate their own citizens and much of the escalate learn I want to ask you about what is at stake for India here because we're talking about the world's two most populous countries and both of them have nuclear weapons it is worried about its own territorial integrity I mean it doesn't want to lose land on this border to China China has been pretty aggressive in India's backyard of China is a close friend an investor in Pakistan which is India's arch rival next door China's building ports and infrastructure in places nearby like Sri Lanka Nepal across Southeast Asia and even farther afield India is the world's largest democracy Washington sees it as a buffer to China's influence in the region and if India suffers a stinging defeat at the hands of the Chinese military really challenges that idea so what is the Indian government saying so prime minister narendramodi had a coronavirus meeting today and at the start he observed a moment of silence for the slain soldiers he also made his first public comments about this clash hi from the doctor he said India wants peace but that if provoked India is capable of giving a fitting reply and he said India would never compromise its integrity and sovereignty so that sounds pretty tough but it may be aimed more at his domestic audience actually because here's what it sounds like when you turn on the TV in India today he was DVS China devious China has broken the peace after forty five years the consequences our great so that's a TV news anchor sounding pretty angry there's a hashtag trending today trying to get out so there's a lot of emotion in India right now the Indian Army however has been very measured urging commented actually noted that it was the cold that killed the majority of these troops that were wounded in battle but then they succumbed to subzero temperatures is what the army said to technically not killed by this Chinese soldiers the army made that distinction and so seems to be trying to de escalate here okay so in India at least at the government level and attempt to de escalate Emily what is China's government saying what are they telegraphing China is trying to de escalate as fast as possible first of all the average Chinese person is not paying attention to this clash it simply is not a story in China there's been no coverage in state media beyond this military statement and second China's foreign ministry said today that Beijing is maintaining close communications with India and that they both agree dialogue as the way

Lawmakers debate articles of impeachment into the night

"What are moderate lawmakers thinking of impeachment it's easy to know what the more decided lawmakers think or at least what they say Democrats see an abuse of power by the president Republicans see a web of unfair plots against him lawmakers in a house committee had a lot to say yesterday night Democrat Lucy make bath of Georgia said her vote is for the constitution with a heavy heart Republican Jim Jordan argued that trump voters should take this process personally it's not just because they don't like the president they don't like us they don't like the sixty three million people who voted for this president I believe the president abuse the power of his office putting his own interests above the needs of our nation and for that I must vote my conscience but is every lawmaker so certain and here is cloudy agrees Alice's here good morning good morning see so what is the process in which we're hearing these lawmakers so today lawmakers will get into the actual nuts and bolts of debating the articles of impeachment abuse of power and obstruction of Congress before all forty one members of the judiciary panel it follows the first of this two part hearing that started with opening remarks last night it's what's known on Capitol Hill is a mark appearing in those are generally very technical committee processes to hammer out an approved legislation so these can be considered a Monday in part of the job that not this time not this time the stakes are too high and so there's plenty of interest in that changes all that we understand that Republicans are looking you're proposing an array of amendments those are expect to get shot down by Democrats but it will also help extend this hearing my several our okay so Democrats have said they're comfortable with their course but as some of them less comfortable than others yes it's a different story for Democrats which include freshman members to flip their districts from red to blue in twenty eighteen many of these new members from these moderate this X. are keeping their decisions close to the vest here's freshman representative MAX rose he's a military veteran who represents New York we are given as the level of seriousness that is deserving of most says second most serious thing I could ever do in this institution he said the first was considering an act of war and he's not alone taking his time in deliberating his decision and publicly rush to judgment some like representative Alyssa slot can of Michigan aren't ready to announce and she's planning to meet with constituents in Michigan and Michigan district ahead of the potential impeachment vote next week you know Jerry Nadler the democratic chairman had remarkable line in his opening statement last night he urged his fellow lawmakers not to approve of something that they know in their heart is wrong Republicans are certainly been very public and defending the president and robe changing the subject the whistle blower hunter Biden but are they all completely on board that everything the president did was completely okay although most Republicans are remaining fiercely loyal to the president throughout this enquiry there are those that take pause with the claims against him that he invited foreign interference into our elections for example Republican Francis Rooney of Florida is expected to vote against the impeachment however in recent days he issued a statement reiterating that the president's behavior related to Ukraine was improper and he should not undermine the work of our ambassadors and foreign service officers who spend careers protecting US interests around the world thanks for the update thank you for having me the ten peers clutter

"Joining me I flew to Las Vegas yesterday afternoon. Flew back yesterday night, just to watch a magician and hang out with friends. I went and watch the game Shimshon pen. Crazy. I just I don't even know what to say go to YouTube look up him sheen. Magic kid. Well, I liked it. Yeah. I've been Chris angel Copperfield. Oh, I one one Saturday. I took my son to two shows. I'm like, let's go to the early Copperfield in the late Chris angel when I was doing radio in Miami. We had a magician come into studio once. Yeah. And he was like a hypnotist slash magician. And I went and got him a spoon. So I know it was like a spoon that people from the kitchen at the station, and he put it on the table and the counter looked at it and the spoon slid across the from one hand to the other. So I decided to leave. Hey, cool. There Goulet, I was a magician. I used to show up to radio stations and make a ratings appear. How's terrible that was pad? Yeah. No this guy yesterday did stuff Erin Andrews was in the room with about ten fifteen of us. And he did a trick on Aaron Andrews. I I don't know what happened. She doesn't know. What happened? I don't know. What happened? I just I just impressive. That's very baller of YouTube. But by the way to fly to Vegas hours to see a show and fly that. Yeah. Very baller on me. Can't do that. But wife's like, she's like, I'm so jealous. I'm like a lot of work for a two hour threat. But I'm like I like everybody in the room, and I wanna see Shimbashi anyone can go. All right. We do it every Monday at this time calling right, Colin wrong. Here we go where Colin was right. I told you for years do not buy these claims by Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy, they're buddies and they get along. Great. And that's not what the people I know are telling me that's not when my Intel is my Intel is they barely tolerate each other. And this article article this past week by Tyler done at Bleacher report, which was a tremendous article worked on it for apparently over a month exposed Erin as really petty like disappointing for a smart guy as he is. And McCarthy had his issues. Listen fans, you can believe whatever you want. You can believe what ever you want. But Aaron Rodgers used to mock the media and roll is is if we suggested that, you know, we're hearing a lot of things about you and McCarthy that aren't great. They. They were all exposed. I was completely validated. This week, which is not in this business. But Packer fans put the poms down your grown men. Put them down for a second inning knowledge. You're golden child has his flaws he's ridiculously petty. And I think in the end that separates him from Brady. Not the talent where Colin was wrong. Well, Duke and Michigan or not playing tonight. My two favorites to meet. In fact, I'm still shocked. Michigan got blown out. In fact, only one of the sixteen. I predicted had a chance to be in the final four only one made it for Jinya. There were very few upsets early. It was a very unique tournament. There's almost no upsets in the first couple of days. And then at the end the big dogs couple of them like Carolina got whacked and Michigan got wacked on Virginia slid in to the national championship. Listen, this is the talent drain happening.
