"I caught up with santini's creative director Fergus kneeland to find out more about the company and its traditional approach. Santini originally started in 1965 and it's been based in the north of Italy, which is about half an hour from Milan. We have our factory in a small town called lyo. And we've effectively manufactured there for the last 50 odd years. The company originally was started by Pietro santini and his three sisters who were three seamstresses. Pietro would have raised when he was a young guy and would erase the likes of felicity mandi, is one of the most famous by graces of all time. So I'm from bergamot. Anyway, long story short, Peter to figure out that he was never going to be as good as he saw he decided to maybe go into the world of bike apparel, and that's kind of how it started. You had, you know, the successive decades of teams and all the top riders we would have, I guess, my manufactured stuff for all those guys. Now we have effectively this company where it is money and Palestinian, but it's still manufacturing 100% everything there in Italy. Far from being just a historic brand, santini has been in the headlines of late. Having been tasked with designing one of the most iconic pieces of sportswear in the world. The Tour de France yellow Jersey. Fergus explained to me how the brand approached such a significant project. From the design end, there was certain aspects of how to be respected. It goes without saying that this color is, you know, involved here that we have to get right first and foremost. So from the design end, the concept was based around trying to maintain something outwardly. There was pure as possible. And then to try to incorporate elements within each of the jerseys that would reference the history of the race, the writers and the elements that people associate with the Tour de France, but to keep those as subtle as possible. There are obviously the primary sponsors who are involved as well. So any Jersey design per se has to be passed by those guys. Anyway, what we have is that situation where we wanted to differentiate our jerseys from the past manufacturers. But at the same time, not to excessively change them in a way that seemed unnecessary. So that was really the plan. What you see affected in a book or on a chip is not necessarily what's going to be accurate when it's produced. The other side of it as well, from the world of cycling, the colors are in a large part, dictated by how they often appear on the television. We will tweak colors until the sponsors are happy. So yeah, we would have gone through many different variations of yellow, and green. To get it right. It goes again goes without saying the Jersey has to work when it's worn by the writers. That's pretty much that's number one, so we can't just create a garment that looks beautiful but when it's worn over three weeks in a bike race, you'd be the guy or the girl that's gonna be wearing it. So that is number one, but we're lucky in a sense we work with all the different pro teams, pro athletes and in the past with other grand doors. So from that point of view, we're pretty certain what works. I'm quite honestly what works is to keep things as simple and straightforward as possible. The difference I guess maybe with our jerseys with some others would be the way in which we treat the hem of the sleeve or the color in which a rock had material to make it as comfortable as possible. There's a tendency within the world of cycling now for manufacturers to effectively disappear and it gets exported and the manufacturing process. And we made a commitment to maintain that in Italy. It's good that this has happened for the Tour de France. Especially having worked with them prior to this and with them now, I know for a fact it's very important to the organizers as.

I didn't think i would hate this by the end of it and to be honest tire. But that's because i haven't slept well lately and that's because there's been something that's making me anxious but i don't feel like going into it here even though it's Related we're entitled to our secrets. Sometimes it's cold and rainy here. The finish in said laurie salon. And what is cold and raining like this. i think about architecture. It's like a habit. I've had since i was in high school especially when i'm listening to minimalist music which i am now in one ear the race in the other I think about modern architecture specifically which looks. it's worse than the rain. it's like it's most austere on welcoming and yet it's most honest. It's flaws exposed to the trickling of water. The patina of exposed eight reminding us that nothing stays modern forever. But i love modern architecture. Best in this condition dishonest condition. The rain makes us remember that. Despite all our technological advances we are still at the mercy of the earth probably makes the writers remember this too. We can't change it. We just kind of like submit to it and it reveals things about us for me and others reveals a certain tenacity because regardless of the weather every day i fall in love with being here still and i say fall in love.
