"No goals there. That's fair. So they wouldn't have read it. I couldn't have anything. Can I just say I called it? I called it at the beginning. I heard that. I heard that. Here's some quotes from Joseph I thought were funny. Quote, this was one of the strangest moments of my life. It feels weird, it feels strange, like a mixture of happiness and sadness. Quote, I was very nervous. I think after the day that my son was born today was one of the most difficult days of my life, obviously both circumstances are much different. Those are just incredible quotes all around. The fact that it was his first touch so the first touch obviously incredible penalty kick. But the second goal sick and it's a moment where great ball by yedlin. Great ball. I'm like old Joseph, too. That finishing. Not just instinctive. He, the thing about Joseph and MLS was, he was a physical presence because he would throw his body around and he was more athletic and wanted it more and there was he was the shortest player on the field and yet everyone knew where he was and if he went up for a header, people were like scared. But that's who he was. And then he got injured and we haven't seen the same player and it's lack of explosion and lack of comfort. But I think there's that element of why I don't want to throw my body into this because I don't know how I'm going to come out of it. And that mindset and that goal wasn't that, right? The full slide an extension. So the quality on the finish is absurd, the reading of the play, the timing, but to see him sort of give out for it or go all in for it. We haven't seen that Joseph a ton since 2018, 2019. And if he can bring that half element back, you know, I watched this game before he even came in and you can see a little bit of like companion doesn't mind dropping it.

"Injury. <Speech_Music_Male> I should say 10,017, <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> a player who's missed <Speech_Male> extensive time. <Speech_Male> In three <Speech_Male> different seasons, <Speech_Male> whether it was his hamstring <Speech_Male> or <Speech_Male> twice because <Speech_Male> of his knee. <Speech_Male> Once because of the ACL <Speech_Male> and a second <Speech_Male> time to go back in <Speech_Male> there and clean it to try <Speech_Male> to correct something. <Speech_Male> And now we're coming <Speech_Male> into this season <Silence> and <Speech_Male> he doesn't look <Speech_Male> like a shadow <Speech_Male> of himself. <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> It's time for <Speech_Male> alarm. It really is. <Silence> <SpeakerChange> I would <Speech_Male> say alarm <Speech_Male> here, her, <Speech_Male> not just for Joseph Martinez, <Speech_Male> but for <Speech_Male> inter Miami, I was watching <Speech_Male> this game with a very <Speech_Male> careful eye. <Speech_Male> I had Cincinnati's <Speech_Male> team total <Speech_Male> over <Speech_Male> one and a half. <Speech_Male> And if not <Speech_Male> for some very bad <Speech_Male> finishing for FC <Speech_Male> Cincinnati, they could have <Speech_Male> won this game to <Speech_Male> three, four, <Speech_Male> nothing. Brandon Vasquez <Speech_Male> had an amazing <Speech_Male> sitter. And <Speech_Male> actually, <Speech_Male> Cincinnati's manager <Speech_Male> pat Newman came out after <Speech_Male> the game and said, this was our <Speech_Male> worst performance of <Speech_Male> the year. He blamed guys <Speech_Male> coming back from the international <Speech_Male> break, and <Speech_Male> yet they still <Speech_Male> beat <Speech_Male> into Miami. What I would <Speech_Male> say her <Speech_Male> was pretty comfortably, <Speech_Male> right? It was one <Speech_Male> nothing in the second half, <Speech_Male> inter Miami was <Speech_Male> the team that needed <Speech_Male> to score. And <Speech_Male> FC Cincinnati <Speech_Male> looked like they were <Speech_Male> much more likely <Speech_Male> to get a goal <Speech_Male> before enter Miami. <Speech_Male> There's a lot of frustration <Speech_Male> you talk about with the LA <Speech_Male> galaxy. It's <Speech_Male> starting to happen within Miami. <Speech_Male> You watch body language <Speech_Male> around this team. <Speech_Male> Neville's <Speech_Male> getting upset on the <Speech_Male> sideline. I saw Deandre <Speech_Male> yedlin a guy who's <Speech_Male> usually pretty cool headed, <Speech_Male> getting frustrated in <Speech_Male> this game. I'm <Speech_Male> worried about inter <Speech_Male> Miami. They won their first <Speech_Male> two. They've <Speech_Male> lost four straight <Speech_Male> since and whenever <Speech_Male> we talk about Lionel Messi <Speech_Male> her. We always say, oh, <Speech_Male> they need him for off the field. <Speech_Male> MLS needs them <Speech_Male> for their Apple package, <Speech_Male> whatever. In <Speech_Male> her Miami needs something <Speech_Male> now for this season <Speech_Male> or it could go off <Speech_Male> the rails. They're tenth <Speech_Male> in the Eastern Conference. I <Speech_Male> know it's very, very early. <Speech_Male> If the season ended today, <Speech_Male> they'd be out <Speech_Male> of the playoffs. And that's <Speech_Male> with 9 teams out of <Speech_Male> each conference making it. <Silence> So <Speech_Male> time for Miami, <Speech_Male> you know, we talk <Speech_Male> about this team a lot, <Speech_Male> but the results, <Speech_Male> the product, <Speech_Male> still leaving a lot <Speech_Male> to be desired, at least <Speech_Male> on the field. "And you went through it, right? Like Sean Johnson will be 34 in May. Hedges turns 33. I think next month dio's already 33. Michael Bradley is 36, 37. Insignias in his 30s. Bernardeschi's a kid. He's like 29. Mark Anthony K and Jonathan Assyria are good players, but both of whom have had injuries over the last few years and K has not looked like what he was in 2020, it's been a couple of years now. I will say, I'm excited for a Mark Anthony K chip on the shoulder season. Like when he's on, he's fun with these pieces around him. It could be special, but we have to see it. Go ahead. I was going to say they need a combined 60 starts from K in osorio. Like there is absolutely no margin fair. And they need it. And they need that from bernadette and insignia too. And they need that from hedges and roasted. The whole thing, man. I feel like as long as one of his senior brides is there, there's the other one can be leaned on to carry them, but again, if one of K orio is the whole thing topples. 3% of women will cut 52% to make the playoffs. Bet MGM has them 12th in the east. I'm just going to ask this, boom, or bust. I think bust, I think the injuries, the lack of depth is just such a killer. I don't see how they overcome that. Any booms? No booms. All right, well, we'll see Toronto. There you go. That's our season team previews. We did them all. I have to go back and write haikus because Dave dropped the ball, but I respect, you know, it's not your thing, I get it, you know? That GPT. Can you just plug them into that? Yeah, but GPT doesn't, we're gonna use that to make some ridiculous predictions, but it doesn't understand syllables. I mean, I barely do. I'm sitting in my house clapping for these things, but I understand it better than Chad GBT. All right, top 5 right now. In the new house, you know? Oh, exactly. That screws me up 'cause you got one or two. You don't know. It's coming back at you. All right, top 5 right back to finish. Don't even start with me on that. I'm easily creeped out as the city of Cincinnati knows. Okay, top 5 right backs. We had number one, we did this as a group, Ryan hollingshead. We think he's the best right back in the last of LAFC. Number two, Aaron Herrera, nice little move for Montreal, the statue out of RSL. I don't think he was number two in the league last year. I think on ability, he can be there. He was two years ago and Montreal or banking on him returning. To that place. Olivia and baiso could be number one on this list. We have him number three was really spectacular for the union last year the Cameroon international. Alex rolled on at four, maybe not a vintage rolled on season, but still a very good one. A lot of the chance creation for the sounders coming through him on the right side. Deandre yedlin 5, and then a strong group outside of that Shaq more on pedigree and fee should probably be in this top 5, wasn't quite there last year nonetheless. Richie laurea, we know his talent, Julian gresle, same there. Brandon bye. Some guys that came in. Giovanni Jesus for FC Dallas out of Brazil spent some coin on him. Santi Arias, I would think that Cincinnati expects him to be in this top 5 by the end of the season. His talent obviously would say that he would be in that group and then Juan David mascara in Portland is another one to watch. So there's right back. How about your top 5 D mids?

"Looking at this team and you're saying they probably believe man for man they improve the back line to bring in a pretty much a full Ukrainian international from shakhtar Danes to replace Damian lo who had a great year last year, but isn't at that level fine to believe you have a true left back in the team. Okay, fair as well. And I do think that Gregory and moza are strength for them in central midfield ahead of them. But the idea that Joseph Martinez off the year he's had is going to cover pozuelo in iguazu impact from last year is hard to believe. So you're looking at a team that they're not just set up for the summer moves, they're reliant on the summer moves. And if they don't make those moves, this is probably not a playoff team and so now we're in a waiting period of can they keep their head above water until they get there. And I think there's a level of trust with Phil Neville that he can sort of get the sum of the parts to fight and care and want to. And play against the ball and play in transition and use yedlin as an outlet along the right side. But this is nowhere near the team that finished last year. And I think that's what's tough to see. Where do chances come from? On this team. Doyle, I mean, Phil said at the end of last year and in signing Joseph Martinez, we want to play with two forwards. We want to push numbers forward. We want to be in a better attacking team than we were last year. Goals were our problem last year. And last year when they were at their best at the end of the season, pozuelo was a, you know, he is just a chance creation machine in MLS, and it was iguan. Gone, both of them. I watched this preseason game. It's preseason. Don't put too much stock in that. But they had no ability to possess the ball in dangerous places in midfield or to it looked like create the type of chances that Joseph in particular feeds on. Yeah, goals weren't their problem last year, goals against was their problem. They allowed 56 of them, which was tied for worst among playoff teams. With FC Cincinnati which was slightly skewed 'cause then they lose like 5 zero twice in the first month and then sort of changed as well. Cincinnati. And Cincinnati got better Miami. Miami did too. Well, what is that? Cincinnati got better with the nobuto and miasma pickups and from what I've seen. Something like that has not happened for inter Miami. So I'm with David. I think that looking at this team, you see a lot of issues. And I think it got worse this off season not just because an iguana are gone. But because with Campana and Joseph up top, you're committed to playing it too. And neither of those guys defend. And you're probably going to put a number ten in behind them and whether it's messy this summer or someone else. Number tens tend not to defend either. So suddenly you're playing 7 V ten on one side of the ball

"Austin Powers three, anybody? Love it. What's our line for that game? Netherlands. Minus two 45 on FanDuel. The 90 minute result you could get a tie for plus two 30, the over under two and a half goals, what's the gap over the Netherlands? The which one? Gakpo to score and Netherlands to win. What's that? They don't have that. They don't have the players yet. I will say that this is granted. I'm a super square. I like us in the first half and any game. And if I'm another team scouting us, I'm just like, hold on for the first half. That's what I thought you were wrong. Yeah, I agree with you. These idiots are going to tire each other out. And it's a 65 minute Mark. We strike. Because these guys, I just don't think it's sustainable to run around. There's the soft underbelly of the U.S. is the moments when mckenney is tired, but they haven't made the subs yet. And it's like there is that 60, 65th minute, where I feel like there's a lot of vulnerability for the U.S. and Iran just wasn't able to make it work today. I don't know that we'll get as lucky against Netherlands. What happened to our guy, he had, you know, I don't know he played against Wales and all of a sudden now, that's the thing. If Shaq Moore played two matches, you put yelled in the first match. We have Joe Scalia who's on the bench too, who's 19, but still he plays right back as well. I don't know what yedlin did to not be out of the rotation. I don't think he did anything wrong against whales. But he apparently is just out of the rotation now. I don't really get it. I mean, at the end, it doesn't have 90 minutes in him. They're like, he runs up and down the pitch. So he doesn't have that in him as well. So you know you're going to need a sub every time. We got to get that figured out, because that's a massive, massive glaring hole. And you guys talking about the first half, I totally agree with you. And the bad thing is the Dutch are a second half team. They basically won every match in the second half. Of group stage. Jesus. Well, I think overall

"We just call it deflation. Did the word just keeps coming up. And it starts Andrew would Deandre yedlin in the fullback position. He should clear his lines. He gets kind of caught in two minds, half goes for a ball, Jamaica get it back. Bog goes into the box. Again, I don't know what Anthony Robinson is doing, but I will say this. If Bobby reads scoffs that, it's more likely to go in than the connection he got on it, which was just like rocketed. If he clips it with the bottom of his boot or his studs, it's probably going in to the net. And in a game where I thought he was so poor. For a player I've really liked. I thought he was just so far off it. Tonight. I mean, everything he did. And then I think later on he had a corner kick and it hits the first defender. And I'm like, just take this guy off. If I'm the Jamaican manager, you know, whitmore, get rid of them off straight away. Andrew, that was just the most massive massive stroke of lock. And then I think in like the 65th minute, Pulitzer Pulitzer coming on for where I want to take into. I know you've got to take someone off. But I wouldn't have. For the late, you know, unless he's, you know, they're managing minutes. I know he has had injuries in the past. On unless they're doing that. And it's a load management issue. I'm leaving him on. And I'm finding another way to get through this again to the game. And kellyn Acosta for younes Musa again just screamed to me. Musa, I don't know, was it tiredness? Maybe there's not enough 90 minutes in his legs at Valencia. I'm not sure. I would have left him as well. Because bringing Kellen a cast iron means a little not a little a lot more conservative in your approach towards the end of the game. And then you saw, I guess some have chances. Well, before you before you move off of that, I want to say one thing because I have one criticism of the substitution and involves Christian Pulisic, but it involves a kind of the other way. I don't know, we talked about the Thomas Tuchel comments, almost like subliminally bullying the U.S. into being ultra conservative with pulisic. It wasn't subliminal. It was very obvious. I don't know that he was trying to bully them. He was just suggesting, please don't get my guy hurt. Please be responsible with how you use them. I'm not saying Greg bear halter, listen to that or cared. But to me, in a game where the U.S. are clearly floundering in attack and you've got this gem like bring them on earlier. I don't know maybe they had some time. Sure. Sure. It's Christian Pulisic..

"We're going back to our normal 433. But there's gonna be some personnel changes. We talked about what we needed from our top line group and what we needed from our back line. We need to push up much quicker, Convince the field give our midfielders smaller space to be able to win balls. We wanted to be more aggressive, high, pressing them and we thought that would lead to some turnovers. This is after hours with Amy Lawrence U. S Men's national team manager Greg Burke Halter, maybe some desperate moves that have time of the Honduras U S game, the World Cup qualifying match that was tied at one. In fact, even going through the second half, it appeared as though he was grasping for anything that might spark his offense. But lo and behold, it worked four goals later, the U. S has its first win in World Cup qualifying, which Makes a huge difference those four goals they matter for goal differential, and now it all looks and feels completely different. At least it does to me. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS Sports Radio, I was ready to jump off a ledge or completely banned this team from my, um, my my show altogether in case it was going to be a repeat of several years ago when they missed the World Cup. Just a couple of quick minutes with Roger Gonzalez of CBS Sports in the wake of that win against Honduras wanted to ask his opinion what he saw, so I started out by asking him what changed in that second half. Well, I think it all came down to the manager Greg Burke. Halter actually making changes this time around. You know, the first two games against Al Salvador in Canada were or so underwhelming. I mean, I just did. Nothing right. Really, to results that they were very unhappy with him. You know, it started again in this in this game. The first half was was very poor. You know, they were down one male and needing to respond, and so When he waited for the 80th minute to make changes against Canada. He made it a half time here, and they paid off. You know, he He brought in DeAndre Yedlin bread in Anson Anthony Robinson. They're all involved in goals. National jets portable. I mean, it was kind of wild. How all of the changes he made press the right buttons and help them get the victory. And then you know, starting an 18 year old striker and Ricardo Puppy who you know, delivered big time with a goal and an assist. You know it gets the US back on track now for qualifying, but there's still a lot of work that needs to be done. Do you think he has a strategy with some of these changes in some of these younger guys? Or do you think this is just about trying to light a fire under the offense? Yeah. I mean, I think it was more about lighting a fire because I think he got it wrong. He changed his formation at halftime. It didn't work. And so you know the initial plan the game plan that he had It wasn't working. But He deserves credit, you know, for being able to adapt and trying to figure out something, and you know it was far from, you know, amazing performance, but they had a good half an hour in the second half that that really Well, uh, reinvigorated this fan base in and so confidence in this team, you know, he's he? It's a big job that you're always going to be criticized. And And you know, it always hasn't been that great, but Will say, you know, being without so many key players and even Christian pools that got injured in the second half and had to come off. You know, this could be a turning point of this team if they can continue building and And you know, produced similar performances on a consistent basis. United States finally gets a win in World Cup qualifying over Honduras with four goals in the second half, and we're spending a few minutes with Roger Gonzalez of CBS Sports right in the wake of what is their first win as they attempt to not miss the World Cup for the second consecutive round. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence here on CBS Sports Radio You mentioned Christian. He missed that first game. He'd been in Covid protocols..
