"The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will see leadership a change this summer. Dr. Rochelle Walensky stepping down at the end of the month. Dr. Mandy Cohen, North Carolina's former health secretary is President Joe Biden's top choice to lead the agency. Dan Diamond is covering it for the Washington Post and spoke with Northwest News Radio's Taylor Vance Ice. What makes Dr. Cohen stick out from the rest of the field? Dan how does her expertise maybe differ from Dr. Walensky? Well Taylor there are a few things that the White House really liked about Dr. Cohen. One is that she had been a state health leader. She'd run North Carolina's health department so she has that sort of leadership experience as well as being a federal official. She was the top health official in the Obama administration. So she has the on the ground experience, she has management experience and she knows the Biden team in a way that Rochelle Walensky, an infectious disease doctor, really didn't. Running CDC was Dr. Walensky's first big government job. And then I also think Taylor liked they that Mandy Cohen had shown an ability in North Carolina to work with Republicans, to alliances forge on things that were bipartisan. CDC right now is under a lot of pressure, particularly from Republicans and the next director is going to have to deal We really saw politics get into a massive mess with medicine. But when you look at the job that Dr. Dr. Cohen is going to be inheriting. How long is that list of problems to solve? It's pretty long. The CDC is of aware its shortcomings during the pandemic. Dr. Walensky put in place a plan to try and make the agency faster, more accountable, more understandable when it's offering guidance to Americans. That plan is still in its early phases. It's possible Dr. Cohen would want to go a different direction. But CDC, in addition to its self -diagnosed problems, is facing questions again on Capitol Hill over what the agency issued as guidance during pandemic. the Was there too much collaboration with teachers unions, for instance, on when to reopen schools? Is CDC doing a fair job at helping Americans protect themselves, not just against COVID, but future viruses? I mean, the list goes on. And the problem, Taylor, is this agency is sprawling. There are a lot of folks who are still working remote. So anyone who comes in is facing a big punishment challenge, in addition to just getting CDC faster and more nimble for all Americans to In benefit. fact, I remember at one point during the pandemic, we were talking about people having to fax in information to the CDC for them to start processing it. But that's not really going to be the legacy, right, of Dr. Rochelle Walensky. I mean, she had two and a years half years at the CDC. Probably the most chaotic scenario a director could ever inherit, right? The previous director, Robert Redfield, who led for the first year of the pandemic, also had a pretty chaotic time. take But I your point. I was speaking to someone who was involved in the White House decision last night, and this person said, look, Dr. Walensky doesn't have the management experience that Dr. Cohen is going to bring, but she helped light the ship in terms of perception of CDC as a place for infectious disease experts. She came to the agency as a prominent HIV researcher. She restored some of the luster that CDC had lost during the Trump administration with folks worried that the agency was being meddled with. There was no real fear of internal meddling, but there are still many questions that I think Dr. Walensky could not resolve, and her tenure was bumpier than some of the predecessors in that role. "A Delaware man crashed his car near the capitol, then killed himself early yesterday. Investigators say it's unlikely he was targeting lawmakers since they're in recess until next month. Just after 4 a.m., 29 year old Richard a York the third began walking down east capital street firing a handgun indiscriminately. According to capitol police chief Tom manger, he had just crashed his car into a barricade on the street, the car caught fire. It appears that the individual may have started the fire himself as he was getting out of the car. Capitol police officers then saw him walk onto the capitol grounds at the east front, and that's when York shot himself. No U.S. capitol police officer fired their weapons. According to quarter records, York was previously arrested in Pennsylvania on drug charges and was sentenced for simple assault and terroristic threats. Meantime, our national security correspondent JJ green tells us that incident yesterday is one of a number of investigations underway. Their investigations open across the country into this kind of thing. This thing I'm told specifically, this incident on Capitol Hill is making law enforcement authorities check more boxes and check them more frequently. Make sure that they're watching their backs, make sure they're looking out for each other, making sure that they understand how to respond to threats, have the right equipment and write training to respond to these threats and to know. That's the key thing they say to know that there are many threats out there, some of them may come in places from people that they may be surprised by, but to be ready pretty much for these kinds of threats. Federal authority say threats to law enforcement and government officials have been spiking since the FBI search of former president Trump's Mar-a-Lago home. The legal team for Brittany griner has formally filed an appeal of the WNBA stars conviction and 9 year prison sentence for smuggling drugs into Russia. She was detained in February at a Moscow airport for carrying vape cartridges containing cannabis oil in her luggage. Meantime, Russia's foreign ministry says, they are ready for what they're calling a professional conversation and concrete steps toward arranging a prisoner swap. Involving griner and U.S. Marine veteran Paul Whelan, who was convicted on espionage charges in Russia, the potential swap would be for a man known as the merchant of death. Victor bout was convicted of conspiring to kill Americans in 2011 and is currently serving a 25 year prison sentence. Knew this morning a federal judge says senator Lindsey Graham must testify before a special grand jury in Atlanta, investigating whether former president Trump and his allies broke any laws while trying to overturn the 2020 election in Georgia. Attorneys for the South Carolina senator had argued that the senator's position provided him immunity from having to appear before the panel, but the judge today ruled that immunities related to his position do not protect him in this case. Prosecutors have indicated they want to ask ram about phone calls made to Georgia's Secretary of State and his staff in the weeks following the election. Fresh office series of legislative victories in Congress, The White House is preparing for a roadshow ahead of the midterm elections in November. Politico reports, the building a better America tour will feature President Biden, vice president Harris, and members of the president's cabinet, delivering a simple message. What we did, or rather, we did what we said we would do. Politico obtained details of the plans and a White House memo, which points to recent passage of the inflation reduction act, the gun violence prevention Bill, the continued rollout of last year's infrastructure Bill, as well as the veterans health and semiconductor bills, all proof they say of the president's successes. Globally, gas prices are still high amid their inflation rates, one energy company in Saudi Arabia is reporting a record profit increase. Saudi oil company, Aramco, says it saw a 90% surge in net profits for the second quarter of 2022 compared to the same time last year. Half year profits reached nearly $88 billion, the oil and gas company, which is nearly entirely state owned, so the profits were driven primarily by higher crude oil prices and volumes sold. It's the latest oil company to report massive or record breaking profits this year, joining ExxonMobil

It's not just that but then the free throw thing. And he alleged you know I don't count 26 9 of it. You've got to worry about him in the last two minutes of three minutes and put the ball in your point guard sands? No. I don't want any part of him because I don't want to have some miraculous conversion over the summer of 2021. Which I doubt is happening. Well you know what he can do. He can be effective in regular season but when it comes down to the playoffs. That's when then he gets exposed. Sure. Yeah man it was. I mean nobody's doing that every regular season game. And this business update Brought to you by the von Hausen Mercedes Benz Automotive Group Market today just kind of flat lining, which is just fine. A little tug of war going on. We have the beginning of earnings season and all those earnings are pretty darn good, especially some of the major banks like JP Morgan Goldman Sachs doing well, Pepsi doing very well too. However, tugging back on that or capping any potential gains there. You have inflation up more than expected the CPI number coming in at 5.4% higher than a year ago. That is the hottest. That index has been running since 2000 and eight if you look at the core number, where they strip out Food and energy. You're looking at 4.5% grow so inflation is there. He's going to remain executive chairman, which means he will still be involved. Um and I'm sure that Mr Jassy, who's taking over for him, will seek out his counsel. At the appropriate time. But of course, Mr Barroso says many other interests included including a trip to space. I believe in the near future with Uh, the race between him and a number of other billionaires trying to get to space. So, but Andy Jassy is the new CEO of Amazon today, his first full day. On the job. Also, we have West Texas Intermediate oil, hitting a six year high after a key OPEC meeting was canceled and you take oil prices moving higher and you add on another layer of California tax and That five handle that we're going to pay at the pump will be here before we know it. "61, Roseville. Wholesome and right here in Sacramento. Along with Christina Madonna. I'm Sam Shane Off the cap trust we go to find Mr Kelly Brothers with the business update on Tuesday morning. Good morning, sir. Sam. Good morning to you. This business update Brought to us by the von Hausen Mercedes Benz Automotive Group Market. Overall today is mixed. The Dow is down about 1%. The NASDAQ is up slightly as there's really no catalyst to push us one way or the other, especially with the S and P 500, closing at a new record high. As of last Friday, when we last got together, however, we are keeping our eye on oil, which has continued to, although it's pulled back a little bit here in the last two or three hours, but It did get to a six year high after an OPEC meeting was canceled. Of course, you combine high oil prices with new taxes in California, and you can see why the price we're paying at the pump. Feels to be somewhat astronomical. Also, the Andy Jassy era begins at Amazon today. First full Business day for Mr Jassy as CEO. First time anyone not named Jeff Bezoza has been CEO of that company, Mr Bezels, becoming executive chairman and next time around, we'll talk a little bit about the great resignation millions and millions of workers resigning in this economy and we'll talk about it. Dow Down 3 20 4 34,066 NASDAQ Up seven The S and P Down 23 or one half of 1% gold up 23 at 18 07 Announce. Oil Down 1% and our 10 Year bond Yield. Pull it back 1.35%. All right, Kelly, Thank you so much. It is July. 6th. It is time for what year? What happened to conclude this hour with Albert Parnell? Yes, I'm going to start with the year 1933. And that's when the first major league baseball All Star game occurred. The L 14 to 2 and Babe Ruth hit the first All Star home Run. They wrote then. Yeah. All right. Good. Old babe. Room. Big bamboo. Wsky, Bambino, Bambino, Big Bambino. Have a big big Lebowski. Was that other dude? Yeah, but they were both big They're going for. Yeah. Oh, the Sultan of Swat. Yes, bottom as well. I learned all that from the sand lot. Oh, I love the story, Mom that I could watch that movie and I'm not a baseball person. I know. I said, love and you're killing me. Smalls Love it. I love that movie the next year. Let's stick with sports on this one next year. Halves year 2020. And that's when the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Pat Mahomes agreed to the largest contract in sports history inked a 12 year deal worth more than 500 million. Dollars. Okay, Half a billion? Yep. A lot of money to play the game. You know, to do that negotiations you kind of have to start close to a billion dollars and then negotiate down. You think you think that was the starting point to get to half a million? Yeah. Billion a billion. That's the negotiation point. Is 500 million. Albert, you'd be laughed out of the room got a billion dollars less. He could play like I'm Uh And speaking of money, Let's stick with money on this one, the year 17 85. And that's when Congress decided to name the U. S currency, the dollar. Okay, Okay, and I have some history on that from Oxford words. The Flemish or low German word. Joaquin's Thal referred to Joaquin Valley where silver was once mined coins minted from this mind became Joakim Stahler, which was later shortened to faller, which eventually morphed into dollar. Well, it took a long way to get to them. Sorry, I couldn't shourd in it. I don't have time. So it went from walking Thaler to walking to follow dollar $2 to eventually morphed into dollar, but it's a Flemish or low German word. Uh, only done I'll be doing as well. Thank you that that's great. That was too. It's too complicated for me to remember. And I find it interesting. Thank you. My Google fingers are quick. That's the secret. Okay. We have a congressman, uh, in Washington, D c. Who says we need to have hearings on UFO's OK? It is time it could be entertaining. Oh, my gosh. Are you kidding? Yeah. Better than hearings on a lot of other stuff. Like what happened on January 6th Guess which one? I'm gonna watch UFOs.

Well, stocks a little bit higher here on Friday as the market looks to recover some of the losses from earlier in the week and yesterday We heard a good jobs report and also we read some meeting minutes from the Fed on Wednesday with no real threats of near term interest rate hikes. And so the market certainly likes that. Looks like the Dow is gonna have to claw back about 1% in order to turn positive on the weak and we're almost there now. But as with the markets, anything can happen in a few short hours, as we've seen this week with Bitcoin, taking a huge plunge down about 30% earlier in the week is a stabilized over the last couple of days. And Amazon is shutting down its prime. Now APP and the gold there was to attract prime members to the APP for faster delivery of goods and services, and Amazon is saying that The attraction hasn't been that great. On By the way, this business update brought to you by the bomb Housing Mercedes Benz Automotive Group. Inflation is here on the Fed would tell you that this part is just temporary. We'll see if it turns into something more permanent. But you know, inflation really is kind of it's a cancer. It's a financial cancer that eats away at your purchasing power. And that's why it's of such a concern, especially with people who are on a fixed income and especially because it will push up. It will force the Fed eventually to push up interest rates. S O take advantage of the situation while you have it now. Initial jobless claims 473,000, which is not a great number, but it is a loafer. The pandemic again, That number has been coming steadily down. And we hope that continues, obviously and maybe by the end of the year. It's cut in half because in half is where it was, let's say in January of last year just before the pandemic hit Amazon announcing their hiring 75,000 people Across the country, and there are at least they're looking to hire will see it. Yeah, And there's been will sell off going on. Especially when you look at the big tech names, obviously, over the last few weeks as well, But, yeah, the inflation number is in today and 4.2% growth in consumer price index year over year. That was higher than expected by a lot. I mean, the expectation was 3.6. This is 4.2 on do you know, economists will tell you? Well, we started from a low base, which is true a year ago. Things were really at the bottom right about now. So the the year over year numbers can skew because of these instances, but at the same time and the Fed will tell you Yes, we expect this, but we expect this is transitory that this will just last for a short amount of time. This is not some sort of permanent. Run to inflation. But the same time when you got rates as low as they are in the government, just pumping money into the economy, In some cases, whether it's wanted or not. One, I think is that nine governors now or 11 that have said thanks, but no thanks to the enhanced unemployment benefits. You know, inflation is a concern, but the feds not going to.
