"On air on Alexa and on the WTO p.m. It's 1103 on Sunday January 16th 2022 37 We have a severe thunderstorm warning in effect now And good evening I'm Michelle bash the top local story we're following this hour remains to be the weather first came snow then sleet then freezing rain and now as I just mentioned we have a severe thunderstorm warning for part of our area Let's go right to storm team four meteorologist Matt ridder with that And Michelle it's not really a thunderstorm but the national weather service doesn't really have another way to get the message out about this type of thing It's a very intense wall of very heavy rain and strong gusty damaging winds upwards of 60 mph This very small area is racing through eastern and arundel county from near the end of the 50th three O one and I 97 split down to highland beach and towards Annapolis and is heading towards skid war and the bay bridge some real damaging gusty winds are possible within this It's a very small area strong gusty winds embedded within this steady rain which continues to fall in a lot of Maryland In terms of the overall area and by the way that warning continues until 1130 Now the rest of the area we're seeing the steady precipitation taper off in the district and throughout most of Virginia it still below freezing west of U.S. 15 the icy problems that are already there aren't going to get any better overnight tonight and closer to the district a refreeze will be possible if not likely before we get to about 6 o'clock in the morning We'll sort out where those details come over the next weather on the Yates Michelle All right much appreciated Matt The weather has made it a tough go for drivers today of course Here's W TOP's Valerie bonk Driving on I 70 on Sunday was not easy Cars were having trouble stopping As I was driving for Frederick county to Howard county some cars around me were swerving and ended up on the side of the road or in the median One went head first into a ditch Plows.

"May still be working with that dump truck at Brooklyn Bridge road right before one 98 blocking the right side and don't forget three O one and 50 across the spans of the middle nice Middleton bridge and the Chesapeake Bay bridge wind restrictions are in effect Are your feet freezing from walking on your cold floors The problem could be across space value dry waterproofing offers free crawl space inspection visit value dry waterproofing dot com Joe Fox WTO traffic Now joining me meteorologist Matt Ritter with storm team four and Matt I'm seeing some clearing to the south and west on radar That's a good sign Not necessarily because I think when some of The Rain ends were actually a chance to start to reglaze with some ice especially on the bridges and overpasses When the water is just kind of standing on those cold surfaces that are much colder than the air that's when some of the icy conditions could return inside the beltway and an extreme Northern Virginia But yes the steady precipitation is ending quickly through Virginia and through southern Maryland by midnight all the steady precipitation will be out of here just some leftover drizzle which could be freezing drizzle in some spots especially along and west U.S. 15 That's where the ice that's been there all day is just not going to go anywhere That's where the winter storm warnings continue to 7 o'clock in the morning We still have a glaze of ice on some trees some limbs and some power lines and especially when the steady rain stops that could start to thicken up again because they're colder than the air And as wind gusts continue to pick up we can start to get some of those limbs come down and cause some of those power outages Temperatures aren't going to get any warmer than they have We're going to stay in the 40s if not 50° in extreme southern Maryland just above the freezing point inside the beltway in the immediate metro area and temperatures will stay below freezing and the western suburbs out towards the blue ridge in I 81 and then temperatures will start falling again after about 3 a.m. to about 7 a.m. We're going to see a sharp drop in temperatures So the refreeze will continue It also at that time one last piece of energy could be rotating around the storm that could bring us a couple of snow showers and some flurries but at least we'll start to dry out in some spots And then it's just going to be a windy Monday Martin Luther King Jr. holiday who have much more coming up the next weather on the Yates Michelle All right Matt you're the expert Thank you For the third straight day new COVID cases topped 800,000 a startling number as the omicron variant doesn't look to be.

"That are being told aren't derogative, so I think we're not seeing those situations as much thankfully. Okay, okay, got it. We've just got a couple of minutes, unfortunately before we gotta wrap up the show, but I want to bring sunny skyhawk back in. He had a friend that called in from Arizona that gave him a shout out. I want to give him a chance to comment on that. And I also just want to ask sunny, you know, somebody who's been in the business for a long time and it sounds like there's a lot of progress has been made and he's been a big part of that and I just want to ask him how that makes him feel to see the industry evolve so much. So Sonny, we're going to give you the last word. You're on the air. Well, thank you very much. I appreciate that. Again, shout out to all my actor friends that are out there that I haven't seen in a long time. But one of the things that I wanted to remind everyone is that it's caused show business for a reason. It's a business. And I would hope that most people would be prepared whether you're an extra or not. And now, nowadays, extras, it's a union, just like the screen actors guild union. So, more than anything else, agriculturally act the way that you would with respect to anybody. That's the main thing. Like I said, it is a business. So everything today is almost virtual, you have head shots that are on your computer that you can prepare. You might have a small role or dialog that you can prepare to show people what you can do, but it is a show business. So act professionally beyond time and do what they ask you to do. And I think most people will get along with that client. Today we don't have, I mean, when I started as an extra, I think I was making $10 a day and all I could eat and all the water I could drink in some cases. But today again, there's fees. There's professional fees. Union fees and all of those things that come into play. So things have changed amazingly over the years, and I hope that everybody has a good experience when they get out there and works on the show. And that's the way I the way I learned everything was by keeping my mouth shut and my eyes and ears open and I would when everybody was there broke had gone to lunch. I had broken for lunch. I was watching how the next set would be was being prepared and those kinds of things. So it's a learning experience. Well, there you have it, sunny skyhawk, native actor, motion picture industry advocate. Folks, that's all the time we have for today's show. I want to thank our guests, sunny skyhawk, Ronnie Thomas, Lisa Yates, Michelle shining Elk, and Angelique mid thunder for bringing us up to speed on the ins and outs of the movie business, native style.
