"This is decades before any of the American claims. And so it is an individual who looks like a bigger. He's in kimono. He has those little round griddles with long, long handles, and you can see their little round thingies. And not to the degree where you can actually tell that they are fortune cookie shaped, but still it seemed like a glue and so Jenny followed it all the way back to its source. She tracked down this researcher, her name is yasuko nakamachi, and she studies Japanese confectionery. He also go at first noticed fortune cookies on a trip to New York, like everyone else she thought they were Chinese. But a few years later, back in Japan, she was doing some research as per usual, and she found a reference in a book to Japanese cookies that were folded around little pieces of paper. Those seemed to her to be suspiciously like a fortune cookie. These Japanese cookies were supposedly a regional specialty, and so yasuko decided to travel to the small town mentioned in the book, and lo and behold, bakers in this town were still making these kind of cookies for new year. Then, as yasuko dug deeper, she realized these kinds of cookies were mentioned in a few different places in Japanese literature and historical records, and American is even quoted in one of these back in 1883. He described these cookies as being crisp and tasting like Ginger snaps without the Ginger. I'm not sure what that even means. But yasuko looked and looked and then found the final smoking gun. That's when she found one of the few remaining copies of a book that had the 1878 print, the one with a guy grilling the cookies. A label on the drawing said they were called tsujii senbei. This means bell cracker. In other areas they were called a different name that translates to fortune crackers. Jenny traveled to Japan to meet up with Jessica and they went on an expedition to a shrine in a town outside Kyoto, where yasuko said they could see these Japanese fortune crackers being made, where there is a whole series of little mom pop hand bakeries outside a big temple where they're still making fortune cookie like things and with grills and it's kind of funky because they're not like little and yellow, like the ones that we have in the United States are big and brown. And they're like, they're kind of have a soy and miso flavor to them. So they're a little bit more savory. You grill them and then sometimes you roll them up, and so they become like a distant cousin of fortune cookie. So if you see it, it's like the DNA. You know, if you take your ancestry dot com or you're like 23andMe thing and you're like, oh my God, here are all the relatives I did not know I had. That is what it kinda looked like when we went back. And these miso flavored folded Japanese crispy crackers did in fact have a piece of paper inside. The piece of paper is not inside PacMan's body. It's like in his mouth. He's like eating like holding onto it with his mouth. And what was interesting is that they tend to not be fortunes as we think of as fortunes. They were pieces of poetry or maybe like a song or just pretty pros. But they are not making oracle like predictions about your future. These Japanese cookies are savory and they're bigger and then the fortunes are sort of wedged in the close of the cookie, not inside it, and they're more poetic than predictive. Still, Danny and yasuko are convinced that these are definitely the ancestral origins of the fortune cookie..

Family there strange things happening in this area. In the summer months of two thousand the community at started to notice some of the areas animals being physically tormented. I'm rodents have been found killed. Local cats have been tortured. That should have been part of the trigger warning. I'm so sorry. One eyewitness remember seeing a stray cat who is very friendly one day and then the next day the cat didn't have a tail so that's just a little aside to talk about the weirdness that was kind of surrounding this time it was just are all telltale signs of a serial concerning. Yeah exactly on christmas day. Yasuko mentioned to her father. That is strange. Car had been parking outside their house. Now there was you would think they were probably going to the park but there was plenty of parking around the park. No one ever had to park in front of their house in order to get to it so without just kind of stood out as a little weird on the twenty seven a man who appeared to be in his forties spotted walking around. the miyazawa. house wasn't terribly out of the ordinary because again was the park right behind them. It was a few miles from where the miyazawa's was living. But what stood out about him is that he was in skater gear which was december. It was very odd because of the weather yet a backpack and he'd just looked out of place. No it was enough that someone noticed on same day. Yes because mother went upstairs and at the top she discovered the bodies of her daughter and her granddaughter. Gosh both had been stabbed dozens of times like more than mikio overkill. Then she went into a nearby bedroom and discovered six year old ray who had not been stabbed but he had been strangled death in god so investigators believe because of this. They believe that ray was the first one murdered. Obviously yasuko mother called the police. Now questioning jessica's family the only thing that struck me as odd was the loud thud. They heard about eleven thirty. Pm that night police now suspect. That's when mikio confronted the killer. He had defensive wounds on his body so there is definitely a scuffle in the thud could have been him being thrown down the stairs. See that the very bottom of the stairs. The wounds that mikio sustained were mostly on his neck. They piece together at the stab wounds. Had been made by a sashimi knife that new found in the kitchen however another knife was found in the kitchen that they believe was used the women now because of the overkill of nina and yasuko they believe that i mean that points to the killer being a woman hater of sorts of you know it just made no sense about six hours. After the bodies were discovered a man was admitted to medical center in tobu nico station and it was a few hours north of setagaya. This man was in his thirty s. He was admitted without giving his name or the reason for his injury. He had hand wound. That was funny. Severe it showed the bone. Oh my god. However i don't know how you get by without giving your name or your in a hospital here you have to i think but can you give a fake name. If it's an emergency situation. I don't know i don't know how it works. Emergency so one. This is an like we're in america. Were obviously this is taking place in tokyo. I don't know what i mean you do. That has an execute mechanic makes more sense in my head. You execute the scoundrel with a bad ass charged alta gun and then you get to revive your allies again. I don't i that the revive in practice won't when you game vast majority of the time but it does seem kind of silly that a passive ability can when you the game also side. I do the design of oxygen.
