"This is the. Today's show better than yesterday show growl. I was not happy with yesterday happy the the. Yesterday this show I blame Sodano, but did the definitely played a role. The I would like to start today with a question if you don't mind and my question is not only directed at you. But it you Greg Bergman. Are you ready? I'm always ready. What is wrong with the two of you is that the lesson? Yes. If we that is the subject. Wrong with the wrong with our view yesterday. When it was announced that AJ Pollick is going to be out for what we think will be five months, Greg. You're up to it might be a little bit. Where did this timetable come from? There is no time to earth. No timetable who says it's five months. There were several reports yesterday saying that Bali could be out for as much as five it was five months in two thousand sixteen when he got this. Listen to Dave Roberts talk about this. And he'll he'll talk about the timetable. So the latest with AJ is he is scheduled for surgery tomorrow. And they are going to take up the hardware from plate. Whatever else is in there from his twenty-six surgery. So how it happened in Chicago bumped his arm hit his arm, his elbow? And there was a the Bursa. Infection was created. And so, you know, if it was if it was on his if he didn't have surgery, it's something that you can just treat with antibiotics, but the now when you're baking in the fact that there's hardware it's it's from pre surgery infection. So that's the point of going in there. And so tomorrow, the surgery to take hardware the structure of the bone is is fine as in a good place. So that's good thing. Far as recovery. We just don't have a time line right now. So five months just totally made up. No Clapper phone. This is a complicated as hell thing. First of all, he's yeah. He's an orthopedic surgeon. No, I'm saying without seeing x-rays and there's an infection. There's metal take out like, for example. Let me just put let me just throw something at you. So when I had all the metal put into my foot. The recovery. Time was six months if I would have had to take it out, the recovery time would have been two months, right? I chose not to ever have it removed. AJ pollick? Is now going to have to have it removed. Now, what is your question about AJ pollen? My question is what's wrong with the two of you. And in what respect I watched both of you yesterday on social media, try to make the argument that even after they announced this. Yeah. That Pollock is out from somewhere between what you say, two months. What rather reporters are saying five months, but with that you'd still rather have Pollock than I just don't want pre is an actual living being in play batting one seventy two and who was a constant clubhouse irritant who wins the desk by subtracts. You how big of an irritant is if they went to the World Series two years in a row. I mean seriously. I wanna go back. Go back to game two of the 2017 World Series in the Houston Astros. It was a play where Yasuko Puig was out of position that led to the Astros winning game to the dodgers might have won the World Series had Yasuko taken the time to look at his defensive alignment cartoon understand that without him. They may not even have don't you in there that Yasuko Puig is batting buck seventy two Abrek seventy two and he can play for the next three months. He's a major league player. With major talent. You're making an argument that a guy dishes traction slice of tragedy. It was a pain in the ass Turner, all but set it rise another guy that can play instead of week in this situation. And that guys Alex do go who is going is going to have a good enough years. Possibly be Wookey of the year. And we're giving days. Arby? So who's gonna play centerfield more than anyone else going forward, you go or do Bellinger? Okay. Yeah..

"Twenty four seven hundred wwl w this sportstalk. I'm Lance McAllister. We have a developing situation. Birkat fans are gonna like this degradate breath. Semari Curtis has reopened his recruitment summary. Curtis is the top high school player in the state from Xenia averaged about thirty six point two game this past season, but a six five shooting guard he had verbally committed to the Bearcats. He says today by Twitter after talks with my family. I want to announce the national letter of intent committee has granted my release, and I will be reopening my recruitment. Now, keep in mind that that doesn't say I'm reopening my commitment air recruitment and going to fill in the blank naming that school. And I I would understand if I were Samari Curtis if summary Curtis were my son, I would. Want to do this? Because I I wanna know more. He doesn't know John Brennan John Brennan doesn't know him. There certainly has to be conversations of feeling out process. I mean, it's it's a committed the next four years of his life to play somewhere if the coach who recruited you in the assistant who recruited you you go there for them. And then they're gone. I'm not going to say bad. Why are you doing this don't do that? I if he wants to reopen his commitment in check around and see how comfortably feels hopefully he checks around talks with John Brennan, if I were in his shoes, I'm thinking, well, if I was going to play for Mick at UC and mic was more of a defensive guide was kind of a grind type of offense. John Brennan is going to come in and play uptempo push it in score more points score. I like he scored two thousand points at his career there, you you would tend to think it would be an offense more conducive to his skill set. Then again, I don't know. Maybe he's thinking. Well, heck, I'm just gonna go to UCLA and play for the guys who originally recruited me. And I would be fine with that. I'm not I'm not gonna get on him for not wanting to stay when everything else changed. I mean that's only being fair to the kid. The hope would be you see recruits him with John Brennan. And he says I explored my options. I thought about it talk of my family. I'm gonna stay a cat. Now. Keep in mind, he had committed once the savior in changed his mind. Now, he's committed to UC and changed his mind, but this different circumstances. So we'll see what happens I wouldn't necessarily panic over it. I would understand if you went to UCLA to play with MC, I would understand if he stayed my way of thinking man, this offense is gonna be fun Jana, especially Jaren doesn't come back journey the ways only got one more year. This can become my team. I'll be I'll be a bear cat. Go to the phones we begin here, and Jonathan you're on seven hundred wwl w hey, hey, I think that the reds hitting problem really starts with a leadership problem. I've been watching them all season. I am tired of seeing guys argue balls and strikes mutter into themselves. I'm incredulous looks. I'm looking straight at Jesse waker. I'm looking straight at Joey Votto. I'm looking straight at you feel weak guys. Just acting like they're entitled out there. Their heads in the Kate. I will I'll give you specifically today. Whatever happened. Whatever said whatever is done Jesse weaker can't get thrown out of that game. But I would also say there is at least a little bit of this is when you're thirty one games in. And you're hitting two oh seven is a team I understand frustration building. And I think that is frustration. The term lack of leadership seems rather nebulous to me because we don't you're not in the clubhouse after games or you're not with them on the road trip. So I think it it just easy to jump to. They don't they don't have leadership on this team. Watch them over the last several years to and I don't get to watch them in the clubhouse after the game or hotel or on the bus. So how do you know? How do you know what they said after today's game granite? All right. Well, let's let's rephrase it then. I'm tired of a lack of on field. Maturity. Talking heads out of their game. Also, I'm tired of lack of on field production. I think that's the most important thing. Well, there's one the other is my question. Maybe it does. That's that's my contention. I'll tell you what I was watching the the reds game side by side the other night at the bar and the cardinals at one point had the base of loaded comes up and drop. Perfect. Suicide squeeze down third base line. Never going to bunt died like a quail right in the middle. And that right. There was the difference between maturity and the lack of small ball that we play that's the difference between a winning team like the cardinals and what the reds are right now. And I hope to turn it around. But I I just don't see it with guys like like Winker right now they've not acted like they belong there in the sense of of keeping their heads in the game. Production. And it's it's just it's not there. And I I really have to wonder how much of it. It's it's in their heads Jonathan. Thank you. Appreciate the call. It is interesting to me if not fascinating how little seems to be said of Yasuko Puig it maybe it's because everybody fell in love with the Osceola point with the day. He arrived in town. And it was snowing, and he was kissing babies and shaking hands in meeting with the mayor and walking over to the holy grail and coming in here in studio, and there's the the corral and everybody loves. Yes. Yo it's fascinating to me for as much grief as shetler vodka. Everybody else gets rarely do I hear boo set about Yechiel Puig who had so much hype and build up in the in the minds of the fans, he's hitting one seventy eight and nobody says boo, and I'm not the guy was looking for like equal criticism of everybody. I just find it fascinating. Because everybody fell in love with it seems like nobody wants to say anything about.

But I'm just saying you make a point that a lot of Laker fans have been making over the past couple of days. Wouldn't it be great to get inexperienced basketball GM in there? Like Daryl Morey like a messiah jury. These guys have contracts, and you'd have to give something up. That's why David Griffin thing was interesting because Griffin was not under contract free agent. And you could have gotten him without having to give anything up. Well, you know, the other name you hear all the time is Bob Myers but Myers contract. Messiah jury got to extension three years ago a multi year extension, but we don't exactly know how long when it's up, right? When he might be avail-, and I've seen going after anybody who has a job. But last night was as bad as it can get short of the guy suffering significant injury being named Durant or curry. Right. Wanna throw Klay Thompson in that mix? Obviously, Draymond green is significant. But boogies the guy again that we've been talking about all year long when we talk about year long story lines and arcs and how it plays out at the very end. Yeah, he was just the extra if he doesn't play again. This is the guy again that they they had was supposed to be the difference maker who is an easy sign. Everyone's like wondering, how do they how do the warriors go and get him? So. And for bookie. It looks like he might go into free agency. It isn't playing coming off another significant injury got wonder how. That affects his market when July one opens up in terms of Durant. He spoke to our third our guest who was in the building last night. Marc spears of. The undefeated. He spoke to Durant who basically said he hasn't decided where he's going next. Now, his response to spears was is there a piece of paper. I consign which didn't give me the most confidence the answer should be. Why wouldn't I wanna stay here? That's what I wanted to hear since obviously would echo what I've been saying for weeks. Sure. But I I saw him ARC's article, and I'm like we gotta get him on tomorrow show. And that was before the warriors blue at thirty one point lead. I can't believe that thirty one point lead to the loss Angeles Clippers it is so unprecedented. Not happen. Not one thing to tell me what it was they give me one. Everything that he reported about the makers. Well, he said go make playoffs. His Brian James was going to make them good. We got eight own man. Lebron James not. Minded love you were so close so close, you know, what you like Madge. You don't know when to stop talking you were so close my dog. I was going to be going. You know, what you got me on that? But then you win caller Bron James, arguably one of the best Cisco seasons in NBA history. Oh, man, you need to know. When to pump the brakes and speaking of false reporting, the clippers are not overtaking, Los Angeles. Stop it. I've only three plus years, and I've been around long enough to know that that ain't happening ever ever. We back at China's ravine last night Kershaw on the mound for the first time. Win last night citing game got by the way, those of us in southern California that are eligible or ineligible. I should say to watch dodger games on a regular basis. Got to see it was on ESPN last night. And we got to see Yasuko Puig in the first inning. Go deep off of his former teammate Clayton Kershaw and showed up over an hour late for that. Weeks not having a great season, so far but not at all surprising that you called it. You thought that he might go deep against Clayton Kershaw and he did right off the bat because he's like sitting there watching Clayton Kershaw over the years. No, one is tendencies no one's what he's about on top of the fact, he's got a chip on his shoulder because he feels betrayed for being traded on top of the fact, he wants to feel his absence on top of the fact, he's angry about the whole scenario, which is why eating come get his rain, and it was an opportunity for him to show up and show out. He always liked to do. Anyway, when I was thinking about it yesterday. You gotta pitcher trying to work as way back into shape. And then on top of that you got a guy who may not be having a great year. But damn he's going to have a great moment. Because that's what he likes to do got a single e will to you got two hits off Kershaw. Yeah. One hit off Kershaw the other. He got up the bullpen. Did. He get other. You have to. Yeah. So he. He came. He came in and deal with he's supposed to do. They didn't win the game or the former dodgers showed up. We hit home run camp. Gotta hit in the ninth inning. They put the reds ahead. And obviously Peterson comes back fact of the matter is the the pitch that Kershaw through. Puig was really bad pitchy through all night could get away from him Clinton Kershaw was lights out last night. I mean for his first start of the season goes seven innings only eighty four pitches through one bad pitch. Give up a couple of runs. Not walk. Anybody? He was money in Rajin expect that either is was hoping that he gave up ten home runs. But it didn't happen. Seven innings, and I would say when you look at the way that the dodgers handed the situation Yossi off week homers in his return to L A..

"You know, what we should do some? There's there's dodger stuff going on right now. Yes. Yup. First of all Kershaw back. Tim Shaw's back tonight. So it's I'm not going to declare any Kershaw days this year until otherwise notified. But here's what's interesting Yasuko Puig, all the sudden everything has come out about UCLA. Week dodger players are talking. Andy McCulloch did a great job in the times and a bunch of dodger players went on record about UCLA Puig. And it kinda uses game two of the World Series against the Astros. As as a point Puig was out of position on an Alex bregman line drive to right field ball should have been caught. Instead it went for a ground rule. Double Puig wasn't ready for the pitch got a late jump. He was out of position he was shaded to far towards center field. And as it turns out, he often ignored the positioning card distributed to dodgers defenders before games. According to six people. Six people familiar with the situation he on several occasions ripped up the card in front of outfield. Coach, George Lombard and left the pieces on the ground. Well, if you talk to people that covered the dodgers, they will tell you that when you brought up Puig to the coaching staff, they just rolled their eyes. Well, you bring them up to the players, and they rolled her eyes. Just turn frustrating part is that if we was good and played good, then we would be really really really good team. So everyone wanted to be that good player. He didn't see it that way. He just saw it as he was just going to show up and do whatever he wants. The public saw all the flair that accompanied Puig's production. But he was late. All the time has attention wavered is preparation. Waned ran the basis with enough recklessness. That teammates joked twig thought he was invisible he hassled staffers ignore suggested from coaches he rejected entreaties from teammates and early in his tenure in Cincinnati just two weeks ago. Said he confessed I never worked hard with the dodgers. He vowed to apply himself now because he'd be a free agent after the.

I said they were going to clinch on Friday and finish this up. I actually did say it was going to be convincing fashion. And boy that was by the heritage shot of the game red saved. We're Bredon, Bob. I know and that was the very thing. I thought of I go, and we're losing both of them most likely damn it. So let's hope it goes that distance or at least hope the jackets can get one of two from Tampa last year jacket side one at that both they came back to Columbus of the to lead over the eventual Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals. So I won't go into anything from last season. Because last season is just that last season game one Wednesday at seven game to Friday night, then game three back at nationwide arena. Seven o'clock, not at all. That's as clean of the hot fudge sundae. As you're going to get in basketball. I don't know if you saw any of it blazer, but Virginia legal Texas Tech eighty-five, seventy seven first national championship for Virginia. Look, it was really really rough watch in the first half picked up obviously going into overtime good. It got really good. The second half was really good. And then overtime Virginia scored seventeen points in five minutes in the overtime period. That's unbelievable which is more than I think Virginia scored in five minutes in the history of the university of Virginia because they're not been known as an offensive team. But congratulations for Tony Bennett as he goes from the first number one seed to get knocked out by a sixteen seed last year, and then takes the national championship this year, eighty five seventy seven over Texas Tech who really came out of nowhere, unless you're following big twelve basketball outside of Kansas and Oklahoma the good season for the red raiders. They made the tournament every year he was with the Bearcats. So he's now going to be in Westwood with a lot of expectations because UCLA is much like the Notre Dame college basketball. It's a program with a lot of. Traditional outta history. Just not a lot of winning in the past couple of years. And I know you've been saying this a lot off air, and I'm not sure I'm ready to call you on it just yet. But this weekend this Thursday, actually is the first round of the masters, and we've got some pairings that will go Thursday at eleven o four AM. It'll be Tiger Woods how tongue Lee and Jon Rahm. Rory mcilroy Rickie Fowler and Cameron Smith among some other ones that I it looks to be a pretty good field this year as actually as usually but eleven fifteen for Rory and Ricky of seven forty five I believe for that ceremonial tee shot with the Golden Bear at Augusta. You know, an exciting time because I think this does represent the start of spring which goes into summer spring game this Saturday at the shoe some day baseball to talk about real quick the Indians all over the Tigers. Eight to two in the bottom of the eighth inning Nissen's natty reds, the host the Miami Marlins tonight at six forty they will not have David bell or Yasuko Puig of the reds skipper suspended one game Yasuko suspended two games. But major league baseball today for their involvement in Sunday's frocks with the Pittsburgh Pirates. But the Pittsburgh pitcher Adam Archer, I believe is his name. He was suspended five games. So Chris Archer excuse me, suspended five games for Derek Dietrich and just his involvement in all of that as well. So Justice served on both sides of.

"Is he is really hot and an Archer made a couple of steps towards and that's when the benching Dante that'd be a bad day for Archer to be very bad day. Now. Rare. Well for anybody out there. By back here. The pile not doing himself any any wanna come to play those. I disagree with that take that this is not going to end well for anybody out there because it pretty well for me. That started off like a normal. Classic baseball fight which is to say it was not a fight at all to punch guys yelling at each other. Some guys jogging in reluctantly from the bullpen because they know that if they don't their own guys in their own clubhouse wanna fight them. And then you got people being quote held back from a fight. There wasn't really a fight. The nobody wanted a part of anyway, at least that's how that whole thing. Went into Yoshio point showed up because Yasuko Puig in just want part of that fight Yasu wanted all of that fight for himself in say that at the very start that we try to fight the entire city of Pittsburgh. Let me reset that. That's probably not fair mom was taking on all of western Pennsylvania. Erie. I'll tuna moon township reaction step to me or get your ask kicked Yasuo verse. The pirates was better than anything and everything that took place at wrestlemainia, man. I'm not sure at this point was more ridiculous. The coating baseball league trying to fight entire baseball team. Like if you were wearing yellow and black yesterday. There was a very good chance that Yasser swung on you. And if you wanted offend the code we want some of you as well. Week said quote. When people watch the baseball go far away or do bad flips. Like, I do before in the next at bat trying to strike out the guy don't try to hit the guy because we can't defend you back because we can't hit you with a bat or nothing end quote. Did you ever think you see today were point will be the voice of reason? Like, we can't quote defend you back or hit you with a bat. He's got a point right guys styling or not styling home runs is something that does bring some juice to the game guys hitting a home run in mmediately sprinting too I pace with their head down is boring. Guys, styling it a little bit bring some juice, it brings some energy something baseball needs Dietrich, practically setting up a telescope on home plate to watch. That did bring some much needed entry in energy to the game again involved the reds losing their eighth straight. Whilst would you watch them? If not for something like that. Let me just say the code, and I've said this before and now more than ever met code is bizarre. Baseball's code is bizarre. It's antiquated and it generates takes like this from pirates reliever. Flea pay Vasquez. Dietrich quote shouldn't have done that. If you do something like that you're going to pay for it. We're trying to play the game. Like we have to respect the game. He shouldn't do it. Joey can do it because he's been your longtime? But for guy like that, he's not supposed to do something like that. I think it was a little too much and quote Vasquez was one of the five guys who've got jetted from that game. And said he was tossed because he entered the field without a jersey. Guy wasn't wearing jersey. I've got to say he was pretty passionate about Dietrich paying a price his taping. You would designated for assignment in the off season. So you're the last guy who should be styling anything leave that to the guys who actually matter and you gotta love the code. You have to love how to code allows for certain ways to style certain homers. If you're a certain kind of guy like if you're good you can do it. But don't do it too much. But you if your you and your designated for assignment, and you suck you can't do whatever. Don't even think about doing if you're that guy. Then you get one in your ear or if you're designated for assignment, don't do it in less. You wanna leave it body-bag code is so awesome. The coach truly is amazing at this point. Except that's not how Archer sees it. Right. The guy made the pitch Archer said, quote, I was trying to go in I- airmailed a couple of balls today. A couple that I was trying to elevate a couple that I yanked when righties were up there. Another one that I just yanked. He added quote, I missed I missed my spot. That's a pro right there. That's a pro a love Archer. That's my guy that is why that's one of my favorite guys. That is my guy. He's one of the smartest guys in the game. He knows what he's doing. They're both with the pitch and the explanation. A Chris Archer that said I'm going to go ahead. And guess that he did. In fact, hit his spot says he didn't I'm gonna guess that he did and his spot was right behind Dietrich. And yes, pretty archaic. Not to mention dangerous. The guys will throw a rock in ninety. Plus just to warn somebody for how they look at home run. Pretty archaic pretty bar Barrick pretty dangerous. Right. Like nobody would ever allow a guy to take a bat to the mouth with them. But it's okay to throw a baseball ninety five at a guy. Then again, if the code gives us moments like that. I'm not really sure how to feel about it. Because well, it's archaic. Yes, you'll Puig wanting to fight everybody in Pittsburgh was probably the best action from the reds in years. I have not been that into a reds game since Chris Sabo was playing the hot corner, man. Now's the best time ever. Yes. Don't change. Don't change don't ever change in the best part is I know you won't because that senior act, and that was not the first time, and thankfully, I know it won't be the last and against Cincinnati. You're welcome. Not to go Matt L LA on you. But you're welcome. You're welcome natty. A fun. Was that the best thing I've seen from the reds since Chris Sabo was Chris Sabo.

"You said it L Z the Yasuko Puig's near I liked Puig. I thought he was fun, obviously, a very talented guy. And he's an exciting player to watch. But I didn't have to work with the guy every day. Right. I I didn't have to go into my office the clubhouse for them and look at a guy. Crossman good this guy in there. He goes again, man. I mean, it we do kind of have a little bit. A little bit. But when you have a heavy presence like that. And it's everybody is kind of like do this guy again. And all of a sudden, he's gone. It's like a breath of fresh air. And it's not because Puig's a bad guys. They didn't like him for whatever reasons, you know. He I I don't know what the dynamic was like, I just know there have been constant reports that. He wasn't the most beloved of people in that Annette clubs now with that being said, I think there's also the factor that when you lose game seven at home of the World Series. You come into the next season thinking you've missed an opportunity when you get blowed out for a while against superior t you don't feel as if you lost let something slip out of your fingers. And maybe that attitude going to the season. Also is a difference between year one year two right? Yes. Right jazzy. Did you see Bryce Harper's opening day over? Yeah. He didn't hit a home run. But did you more importantly, did you hear the crowd's reaction Fill striking? his second strikeout. Dave Harold started. After the first one. The second one. It got worse. Okay. Look this. Philly fans are awesome in the sense that they're entirely predictable. We you knew that the second. He had a day where he struck out a couple of times there hill him hear it. That was a lock was a lock. They don't care if that's a lot. They don't care, man. This do they're living up to their reputation. That's a lot. Listen, a hall of Famer is one for three you you bet. Thirty three percent. Those e they booed Mike Schmidt for twenty years. They wanted to run Allen Iverson, right? They booed Mike Schmidt for twenty years. Who's arguably the greatest third baseman never play the game? Boo. Mcnabb forever. Right. Right. Forty minimum. Exactly, they're and they're entirely on brand perfectly on brand..

"Taco fall what amazing story he is. So p enjoyed that one. We're going back to back coming up later on this hour, the manager of the San Diego Padres, Andy green. But as promised we're joined right now by an all star a second baseman for the Cincinnati Reds, one of only three players with at least fifty home runs and one hundred and eighty nine RBI in his first two seasons with the reds. I player in franchise history. To reach those numbers in his first two seasons. Wall so hitting at least three hundred only player in major league history to produce five hits four home runs and ten RBI in the same game joins Lou Gehrig as the only players in major league history with four. Four grand slams and a four Homer game in the same season and the reds opened up their year against Pittsburgh on March twenty eighth schooner Jeanette is my guests scooter is so good to have you back. How are you? What a minute action that is. Your resume is unbelievable. I gotta say so scooter where about ten days out from the season opener. How is camp gone for you? So far are you ready to start playing meaningful games right now? Or maybe as there's still a little work to be done. I'm ready. I'm ready. I think the more just every spring training. Right. Get ready faster this year. After about my fifteenth at that point that bad. I was ready. I can't wait to get the season started as you're working. Now. The team itself has made a lot of moves in the off season, including the arrival of a new manager and David bell gossip Matt camp, Yasuo peak, Alex woods Sonny gray the list goes on. How would you describe the vibe in the mood in camp this year? It's great. It's great. I think the biggest thing is that you're the front office is they expect us to wear. What we have players. We always expect to win. You know, we think we can win on any given day with whatever we have. But now that the front office is. Expecting us to win it. It just seems more real, you know, to wear both sides are, you know, have the same thought. So with that that's different from the past couple of years, which is good. But all all the new players coaches. Everybody's everybody's energies good good. I think that we're gonna we're gonna really surprised for people and with our lineup and sunny, gray and Rorick. And would you know being are pretty much our top three guys if they do what they're supposed to man. I mean, we're going be. We're gonna be scary. I don't think people are gonna wanna see us coming into the town read second basement scooter genetic joining us, and then you've got Yasuko Puig scooter who we had here in Los Angeles for a number of years. He really is a fascinating guy. What's it been like having him around? What's he bring to your clubhouse? We talk all day about that. I would I would say he's he's a lot of fun. He enjoys himself out the field where that's healthy. That's he's got to enjoy himself to being at the top of his game. So do some stuff out there that you've ever seen before the jobs kind of like? Wow. Like what what what just happened right there? But then, you know, pick up the ball throw a guy out three hundred feet away or come up and the hit a grand slam. And it's just like, well, you know, it is that's him. You know, it's kind of like the Manny being Manny, you know, that in that time, it's very similar. But he's he's a good guy. He's he's smart just getting to know him. He cares about. He cares about the team. He cares about his preparation. So I mean, all in all he's he's been great. But you know, we gotta see when we go through some ups and downs as a team. How guys responded, you know? That's when you really can tell help people are, I think, that's right. I think that's fair scoot Jeanette joining us now you wrote a camp last year in an RV take me back. How was that trip? And then how did you make the journey this year? Oh, it was on last year Cruz. What's never somebody's? Who let us love one for for the trip over. Unfortunately, I did the drive at all. My wife and our dog we owe or relaxing pretty much the whole the whole trip while I drove, but you know, that's kind of my together. The husband, you know, just the same. That were expected to do. But this year, we actually we met a a bus driver at the homestead race in NASCAR racing in the homestead this year. And it was Elliott Sadler's. Bus driver for for a long time and retired this past year. So the boss is the bus driver were doing much. I told him, you know, maybe in federal aerial hits you up and see what your plans are insured enough. He was he was ready to go and his name was well, he's a. Get old country. Dude. Lot of one liners. Just a great guy. It was it was a lot of fun. I didn't have to drive it all as the ad. Satellite TV and internet. So I mean, it was it was a lot better than doing all the driving on my own. That's for sure better. It sounds like the best Rhody ever. I'm glad you mentioned NASCAR school because as long as we're talking about NASCAR and wheels. You're a huge Dale Earnhardt guy. What was it about the intimidator? Did you like so much respect it so much, man? You know, I saw a lot even the younger. I was I wanna say. Twelve when he passed something like that. But I started following him. Probably went out. I would say I just started getting old enough to. See some similarities actually between myself at a sense of how he ready said how how I played the game. And kind of how my dad groom to play the game, which is hard. Balls hit my only thought to catch. It may make the play. It's not. Okay. Where's wall where okay where you know? It's the play. And I think that's how he raised race the win every time and another thing too. Oh, really? Kinda got me on the whole Dale bandwagon. There is is how intimidating everyone was scared of it all at the track. But as soon as the racist over you could just tell it was like this, you know, the real deal Dale that's going back home, everyone that that. I that. I I've spoken to now credit confirmed that he was just such a great guy off the track but wants those shades came on and you put those Nikes on it was it was the intimidator. I always always like that. I thought that was really interesting and call you know, that that he kind of had to you know, to different personas of it. Like myself. I had Scudder and Ryan. So that was another. Similarity there too. But yeah. Scooter genetic joining us and juniors just get as well juniors. An unbelievable guy off the track track. Of course, we're really unbelievable gap track point, you're making right now scooter, for instance, back in February you were to middle school in Sarasota, Florida, and you were talking to students their body motions. And times were maybe you felt alone or down it's part of a larger project that you're involved with. But if we start with that middle school conversation, there are a lot of things that you might be doing in your free time. Why was that something that you wanted to do? Well, I think you know, really, I like to call it, you know, mental health. He does the mental health thing. People are kind of like, well, you know, I think it's more. It's mental health. It's it's how do we help each other? And I think the biggest thing is just sharing, you know, connecting with somebody in just communicating with that I'm like really what's going on. Whether it's something good or something. So good. I just think nowadays with all the social media and all the other stuff. It's like people put this mask on that. Oh, sorry. You know, it's not cool to talk about certain things like religion, and politics, and you know, money, and you know, these are things that were kinda in our culture and exercising wire. Dots talk about and and I don't understand why. Because how are we supposed to learn from each other? If we're not talking about those things that are pretty important stuff. You know, we talk about sports wear favorite teams. You know, people are like, oh, they suck. And like, no, you're team sucks. But that's that's fine. And it's like why why can't we talk about you know, all that all the other stuff like that? And I think if they really they really hits every area, you know, emotions. Maybe what the home life like. And I just I the kids. You know, if they feel like they can't talk to anybody like, that's that's one of the most support types probably to find somebody to talk to use the resources, the guidance counselor. Sure. When it comes to the boring stuff. Hey. I tell them. See some bowling going on? If you don't do anything about it. You know, really, ultimately there's no difference between you and the bully other than you're not maybe throwing a punch or something. But also on the flip side of that too. To feel bad for that bully try to help that bully, you know, because all obviously if they're bullying people, they're probably going home to rough situation. So I kinda just try to teach them those kind of things and really the biggest thing jammers. But none though that everyone's dealing with something, you know, even eating as a as a professional athlete. I have issues that I have to deal with on the field. I think everyone does in. It's weird because like everyone happens conversations with teachers ally. Call thank you so much, and you know, in like, we understood what you exactly what you were saying. And it's like, well, why are we saying why are we talking about it more as a as a society? And and really I mean. If I can help a couple of kids, you know, it's worth it for me. But ultimately, all I'm trying to do now is just talking to people that are I can communicate with that's my teammates, my family, my friends and just encourage them, you know, even as my buddy makes t shirts, and even you know for him he can impact a lot of people in all different ways. So just just really encouraging people to step out of the normal and do something to help somebody read second baseman scooter Jeanette joining us, I'm that's amazing to say right there in terms of the t shirts, it's part of a larger project, actually..

"Sixty four. Thank you three thirty seven in four hundred. But he also knew that he had a contract, then he was okay. But he did say last year, and I was pointing this out to Roger that. Puig talk about getting a new contract, and he was going to play at a certain level in order to get that extension before. Whatever reason he seems the now go back and say, well, he didn't play at the level that he needed to play. Now, he's gonna try harder because he's closer to the end of the contract which but that's contradicting himself a little bit. They're not only contradicting. But that's different than saying. A lot of people. Did it? I want this money. That's okay. But that's different than San. Yeah. I knew I had a con years on my contract. So I didn't try and now you're trying to get signed by new tune who's going to give you years in a contract and mini. You don't try when you know, you got years on a contract, that's bad. Look, man. No one's saying that it's not a bad. Look is just that's different than what he said last year, that's just different input. But he, but he also made certain for us to know that his mind was on the money. So nothing's changed. The problem with it is is that it may be there is something lost in translation, perhaps. Maybe it was a joke that came out and would didn't translate. The problem is what the qu-. Quote is matches up. Exactly with what the numbers are that what he see that? When he got to the league he was trying to get to the major leagues he was trying to make the dodger roster and he was unstoppable for a half a minute. There was a brief conversation of who. Would you rather have Mike trout or Yasuko Puig in retrospect, that's an insane question. But in the limousine. For me. I say Bryce Harper Bryce Bryce Harper or pre the guy who used to sit in your seat to I decided to part ways with him. I thought well we had a meeting in in. So I want to keep out your future. Hey swore up and down that I don't know what I was talking about because I'm like que- in in Harper Saint thing, but the money is different. I'm not gonna pay guy four in a million when I could basically get the same return for pennies on the dollar. I agree with that. I agree with that. But the prophet when peak says, yeah, I didn't try the last couple of years and your numbers have fallen off significantly. And then you're going into a contractor, and you say. Spike, and like Raj was saying it's okay to put foot on the gas in a contract year. I think that's a pretty typical thing that athletes do. Oh, yes. But the.

"Exactly. When I look at the squad on my gone. Okay. Who's going to be that kind of personality for the squad. You know, it's not not among your highest paid. You know, JT actually has a really good personality. But he doesn't really sure that much Hernandez a good personality. He's a good dancer. He's a good dancer, but he doesn't Janssen afield. Baseball doesn't want you to have a personality. It'd be baseball's the only tried to give a little king Griffey, Jillian little playoff deal. They remember we Ken Griffey's playoffs. So I'm saying. Promo. That little gear. You feel? Right because you can put together a promo. Brad had him China promo. Listen, I could try if someone were to take the advice that problem. What's happening? Next time. You come up gain a fastball in the year. This all I can say that they want this. The fact of the matter is the second you do a Yasuko Puig. Like thing you hit a home run you run around with your arms in the air or your remark, man. But why Travis it's stupid key. I'm not arguing on behalf of it. I'm just saying that that's what it is. My thing. Good question a bunch of you know, redneck guys who if you don't do things. It's stupid, Dan. Let me ask you this. It's a personal question. You were pitcher. Did you ever retaliate on a batter who did anything along the lines of what I so I'm going to split the hair a little bit? I I would retaliate. If there were things that were putting team at a competitive disadvantage. I would not retaliate because I gave up a home run. I would not retaliate because somebody got a couple of hits off me. I would retaliate if they were stealing signs out retaliate. If they were doing things like that were they heading can additive advantage to stop those sorts of things that circle back to that one shot split the hair when yes. Reconvene to reconvene course. No, I put we look weeks tweaks production. I think is when you look at AJ Pollick. Assuming that AJ Pollock plays enough games. He's going to replace pooh-poohed. You probably even more. He's probably going to give you a little more more. Not not have all of that around. It's nice and calm, and he'll still give you the statistical numbers and you'll be fine. I just have a hard time thinking that police licking of the bat was such a distraction. Well, it's not just that is just, you know, it's not even rail the playoffs hopes or you know. What happens when stuff like that happen? There's how many players base one team twenty five. So this twenty five of them at least twenty of them. Really don't like, right. So they're sitting in the clubhouse because they grew up thinking that baseball had to be a certain way when they see their teammate doing that they frown on it. They got they little whispers go on little corner that that's what happens. Right. The gossip. That's that's what happens. So it naturally takes its toll on the rest of the team is some of the players and is not necessarily because Twee is because the other twenty guys, right? If people wanna blame it on the guy like pleating single him out. Right. Puig had nothing to do with the fact that they lost the World Series. The reason they lost the World Series is that they didn't make decisions in the moment that need to be made play a long game in a small window, which is which doesn't make any sense doesn't make any sense. All right. All right. Russell Westbrook is running off triple doubles one. After the. James harden went over thirty points for the thirty one three I thirty one. My goodness. Right from us last night Wasser which. Press which is a more impressive her sort of situation or that's coming up next her..

"Yes, indeed, we are actually weekend weekend out LIZA. Yeah. The lateral Cincinnati and surrounding what they've done. I don't know what you've done to deserve this. But you'll have this eleven full times here in February. Wednesdays and Thursdays the occasional weekend. Of course today leading up to you see pre-game that's going to be a big one here. When you see Houston for supremacy in the in the conference of what were you in the sheriff for just talking off air Xavier having struggles what he just told me something that I'd forgotten about. And that is that they have a streak of thirty five straight years finishing five hundred or above in the conference, and that is serious jeopardy for three and eight. They lose last night home to the poll so things not going well for the musketeers, I'm guessing the weather's a little better out in Goodyear, Arizona. The equipment truck has arrived and a major league baseball not that far away. And it's our pleasure to welcome in to talk a little reds. He's been doing. This wanna make sure I get the year right here is this year number twenty six or twenty seven. Great to be with you, actually, it's twenty seven believe it or not. But I mean, you know, when you've been around that long give or take a year. No big deal. Right. So you could hear him each and every night on Fox Sports Ohio during the telecast. And let me start Chris by obviously we talked to Bronson Arroyo last hour and asked him about the pitch or didn't get a chance to ask him about the trade with the dodgers and most mostly Yossi. Oh, who's already I think kind of had an impact on reds fans around town forgotten a little bit that Matt camps part of that deal. But what is a guy like Yasuko Puig in your opinion gonna do to this ballclub? I forgot to say, you know, the guy that trade for me is Alex would because. Because there is a really wanted to bolster their pitching in. I think that is the under the radar real coup that the restaurant office is able to pull which is the left hand starter here that the reds have really needed. This guy's going to really deliver my mind now the guy that because he's been so high profile took a great come out here. He's a Cuban defector all the farm thing. And he's a guy that looks like it has phone when he plays. So he's immediately excited the fan base. I imagine the ticket sales are up a little bit people are talking about it because they wanna see we talented and he's predictable. And that's a great combination. And he's probably the only guy who's left a message on Jeff Ruby's voicemail. Don't you think about is tickets? I mean, that's. Go ahead. In and out of Ruby's sakes. Well, and you know, it's fun for me with this. Chris seeing a guy. I mean, he looked like he had stuff up in his social media like almost immediately like he had gone to Dick's sporting goods and bought his own reds gear to have on to be ready to go. When all this was now, he comes in he wiles. Everybody on him day much like today. Weather wise is the horrible day. He wiles everybody in the organization goes around. I think he went over to the holy grail and just just really immediately trying to ingratiate himself with the community. But this is a guy who's personality strikes me as big kind of back to my big red machine days. I looked at those guys on that team the way I think young kids could look at a guy like this. Yeah, you're right. You know from a player perspective. There's two ways to look at a trade number one team. They'll let me go anymore. Cry or that I'm going on me. And they made a big deal about getting fans are excited about it. Embrace it. Really allowed watching him and watches red ball club because it's going to take on a completely different personality. I been kind of boring the last few years, you know, we've run out Filbert young pitchers really knowing what to expect so many games down by four or five runs come to third or fourth inning. Yarder. But now different deal. The pitching is better. And you have personality that is going to help those guys that have other. Suarez's over airbase personality every week on the team if even going to help a guy like him, Chris wells from Fox Sports, Ohio. The analyst is our guest talking a little reds baseball on a on a daylight today. It's perfect tonic. I do believe Chris. There are so many questions when you look at this spring training brought about by a lot of the roster moves from who leads off with not having Billy Hamilton to what do you do with Nixon Zell to to the pitching rotation to how're things going to shape up in the bullpen at Sandra in your mind. Oh, what are some of the two or three most important questions between now and opening day that fans should pay attention to? Well. The biggest thing for me right now that the ball club is a lot better. And they're actually attempting to compete and win the vision that this is an attempt to put out from guys that have personalities and see if the fans will come to watch them play. They traded Billy Hamilton. And that was. Biggest move right there. What we've had enough of of kind of hanging around waiting for the young guys to come through. We're going to make some moves right now. So they've got five guys who are going to be creative at the end of the year this year. So the same thing that happened this winter you may see repeated again next winter on the field for me, the reds have to find a center fielder. Now, I'm not sure whether it's going to be Scott whether it'll be mixing Zell coming out of the buyer leagues grabbing that position. This winter haven't done that. So they must feel with their prospects. Like, I said there's. As good as anybody gonna find anywhere else. But let me ask you this to Chris from from talking about players that are upcoming in the season. That's upcoming. I want to kind of go back to the history with you with both Fox Sports. But also as a player when you get ready this time of year, and you go out and you get to spring training and you walk out on that field for the first time. Is it still as awesome as I can only imagine it would be from that perspective from Bronco seeing it every year or does it does it wear off is it? I don't think it ever wears off. I'll tell you there. Read different guys that come to spring Trent. Okay. Warne is Joey Votto or the four guy. Tucker barnhart? He's got the team. May it probably on a multi year contract. All always trying to do is relax get in the mode get in shape and kind of get into the in the field things. And then there's a young player who coming up of the minor leagues may have never been there before. Maybe it's the second in the big league camp. And he looks around wide eyed, and he's just excited to be there. And you know, one of those happy to be there kinda guy aria them hoping to stay on as long as they can that big league roster in spring training because the meal money is so much better. And then Thirdly, there's a hanger on. And I've been I've never been the contract. But I have been the guy who has been up for the first time and the hanger on you know, the guy who has a chance to be sent back to AAA or maybe release the end of spring training. And for all those articles that you read about how relaxed it is how far editors and spring training. Not the these guys these guys know that their baseball life, maybe cut short by the time that April rolls around. They've got maybe a wife and a kid, and I'm not sure where they're going to move. Whether it's going to be a mobile or whether they're going to get released and have to go to buffalo or somewhere else. So a lot of different parts going on the spring training. But when you feel for the first time in a beautiful facility is Danny Goodyear. It's really something you smell the grass. You hear the crack of the bat all those worn out. You know, things that really come through though. And if upon place the big Chris let ask you about a Cup on before I get to. I know you have a couple of unique a rule changes. You maybe would like major league baseball and baseball itself to consider. But some of the ones that are actually kind of bring it on the table. Everybody's always talking about. How do you make the game faster in this or that which in my opinion, just keep the game the way it is? But I'm going to toss out a couple here. One would be a universal designated hitter. In the second would be a three batter. Minimum for pitchers obviously referencing guys coming out of the bullpen. What is your take on those two? Well, I don't like either be honest with you because you're you're you're really handicapping a team. Let's talk about that one. I I like the separation between the two the knock I really do. I didn't. Pitcher hit. Okay. I understand that. But at the same time. Sometimes as American League games at the ages. They wearing a pitcher so much. They're all of a sudden, you won't be your pitching staff, and you're looking at a long game run out to twelve that kind of. Kind of watch. So I also like the strategy pitcher hitting has to offer as well. About three hundred minimum area. Last guy. Sometimes him. And ending the night before. You're you're you're risking injury. That on. Implication where it helps the health of the ball club. And the helps the health of all baseball players. That's one of the major issues, and nobody really wants to talk about the disabled list now call the and how many people end up having surgery who play in the big leagues final question. I know you've got some interesting rule changes that you would propose one of which on the frequency of pitches. Correct me if I'm wrong here that can go over a certain mile per hour is that correct? Well, here here's where I'm coming from. I don't think the long game. So the problem, I think the pace of plays a problem, and you say, well, I want to see anything change. I like it the way it is. But you know, things have changed over the last few years over the last decade. There has been less action going on and ballgames more of the atom done at that more and more on every ball club. Meaning it has a ultimate outcome. You either a strike out a Walker homerun? So the fewers never even touched the ball more more now than they ever did before. So I'm thinking how do you put more action in the game number two? How do you correct? That one area that I was talking about wearing injuries and pitching injuries while I'm talking about we've seen. The number Tommy John injuries surgeries over the last decade or two. All the indication. It's from guys harder and harder and your arm. Four hundred miles an hour until it closed up. And then you get a repair. So might be is. All right, go pro so fast. Hitters put the ball in play more. And also. Quicken the pace of game. You'll see more defensive plays and some old time strategy putting the place that is not putting the place nowadays with the proliferation of the home run. So limit the number of pitches at one team can throw your team. Say pick a number say ninety five miles an hour. So. Showdown. Harvard, maybe you're starter. Better. Learn how to pitch at ninety four or ninety five miles an hour. Not Bindi h. In. So doing you reduce the number to route. They're all these training facilities, all they harder. Because they know there's an academic scholarship. Throw ninety miles an hour. But it doesn't make him a better pitcher. So it's almost like brought some Royal approach you show me how to pitch not necessarily just have a pro Hart L, very interesting. And I know, you know, this plenty of time in spring training too. Maybe I don't know have a beverage or two and discuss that right? I gotta tell you. I I sent something out on Twitter the other day about that. And you talk about a beatdown, man. I don't think I want to come out of the house for awhile people, were you ever think of and and a baby I deserve it and block people just thought I was kidding about it. Major league baseball would never stop that. But. Have you oughta consider the health of the ball players and basically thrown the ball harder than the human body is meant to throw. It should be. You know, something that you bring knowledge of before we move on to start changing the game in Philly ways. I agree with Chris. We appreciate your time. Look forward to catching up with you a little bit down the road and have a nice time out in spring training. And March twenty eighth will be here before you know, it. All right. Thanks. There you go Chris Welch twenty seven th year ahead on Fox Sports, Ohio doing the analysis of the reds. And I tell you. I know that sounds crazy when we come back. I'll tell you why maybe it's not getting a little baseball conversations. We'll can we go out there. Now. Damage anybody out there? But I mean, I don't mean outside. I mean good year. Oh, good. You're going. All right. More ahead. It's the weekend edition of your reality. Check. It's gambling fin up to UC hoops Bearcats at Houston. Pre-game three thirty tip.
