"And it's match point Azarenka. Assuming she takes it. If it is only we had a commentator. If it is Azarenka, does she have a chance? I think that sorry to dismiss her chances of getting any further before she's even got to the quarterfinals, but I think that's a tough match up for other anchor against bagula. I think it's a tough matchup, but I think she always always has a chance. I think she's got a chance. She's always got a chance in Australia. Oh, she's won it twice. Yeah, you can't write Azarenka after. I believe they've met in the Australia at the Australian open before. That was a couple of years ago. And Jessica gula won. That was her first Grand Slam quarter final. That was a big moment for her beating Azarenka. Ten year anniversary of her second win as a ranking? Yeah. And that was the year that Sloane Stephens beat Serena Williams, isn't it? And in the final, Azarenka had her panic attack when she was off the course. You know, it was a really challenging time, I think, for in the spotlight and being the player looked at and trying to get used to it all and I don't think people quite got her really. Incredible that she defended that title. Yeah, absolutely. It's a huge achievement. Underrated achievement. What about the men's tennis that we've seen today a 5 set not quite thriller but almost thriller I've written between stephanos its pass and Yannick sinner is is that a little bit unfair if I felt like it was a very, very good fight 5 setter, but I'm not quite putting it in the absolute given what we've this week. This was exactly what you said, a very good 5 set match with two very good sets played by Sid surpassed two very good sets plays by sinner and then a nervy final set, but which in his words he suddenly found his serve again. And I actually found his interview with Jim Courier really quite insightful in that way. And he's relaxing in interviews, by the way. This is sitting by the way, who won the match. I thought sinners, sinners got a poor record against. It's about us. I thought sinner really improved and showed progress. And I thought since the past showed some real nerve at the end, yeah, I went through many different feelings, I think, during this match. I mean, sitter past started it so so well. He looked really assured of himself really confident, his back cam was holding up really well, his forehand was doing a lot of damage. Actually, I think I came on when I know he came on to court after he was too sent to love up, and I was talking to an a crook, so the press association, and I said, right now, if I could sort of pick amends champion. I think I would switch to sits a pass. You know, I just think I've been just so impressed by him. And then of course he went and lost the next two sets and it was looking like he might not even be in the tournament after I've made my big change of prediction, which obviously I'm not allowed to do anyway, but ahead of Djokovic. Well, I just have doubts over the Joker, which but and I feel like maybe I felt like sits a pass in those first two sets would be able to exploit that Djokovic. But anyway, then sinner had this comeback and I think the sort of story of those first four sets really was just a huge number of breakpoints that sinner was generating and largely not converting schizophrenia was sort of generally playing the bigger points better. But sinner still leveled it up at two sets all and he's got this incredibly fast twitch arm sinner. I find watching him up close, pretty fascinating. He's such a slight, small tennis player compared to most of them. And yet he's one of the most powerful. It doesn't quite make sense. No, it doesn't. I agree with that. And yet it's really compelling. But then I must say, I thought sin at played a terrible final set, really bad, didn't create any breakpoint sinister that sits Pasteur better, but sinner had been getting in so many service games of his and he didn't at all. 20 6. And up until the 5th set and then didn't create one in the 5th set. And then also played a couple of horror games on his serve. He got out of one of them from love 40 down, but then the next service game, he was 1140 down again, and it just sort of cost him. And we're now in a situation where three slams in a row, sinner has lost a big 5 set match. It's been a good omen, beating sinner in 5 sets, Djokovic, Wimbledon, went on to win the title. Our crews at the U.S. open went on to win the title, maybe sits a pass here, but I do think we have to start thinking it's time for sinner to step up and win one of these. And it's not just the 5 set matches. It's matches against top players. I think Hannah pointed out that he's now one and 15, I think, against top 5s on the tour and at slams. There seems to be a little bit of a ceiling there. Are we in why do I lose all the close matches territory with the annex center? Imagine you're in a lift with the annexin and David. You're an ATP communications manager again and Yannick sinner turns to you tonight and says, why do I lose all the close matches? Are you saying it's because you don't quite have it, Yannick? Or are you saying? Are you saying it'll come? Just like you said George Federer went back in the day. Yeah. I mean, look, there's a big difference between where federal was then and where sinner is now. Federer was nowhere, really, at that point. He wasn't getting to quarter finals of masters 1000 events. Let alone semis of slams and all that sort of stuff that sinners pushing on, you know. And sinners a couple of years older. Than roger was then. But I think my answer is no. I do think that final set will require some proper analysis from him. And from Darren Cahill. Because I think Cahill is probably helped sooner get a lot closer tonight. You know, just tactically, I think, but there was also a really good mid match adjustment from sinner in the third set. You know, he went from kind of being incredibly explosive, but in defense, to very explosive in attack. And he also realized that he could pick on the sits about backhand. And he was relentless from that side. And then suddenly he stopped doing that in the first set. So he's going to, he needs to be forced to watch back the last hour of that match. And understand what went wrong. So my answer to you, though, is no, I'm not worried about his 5 set record or that. I think he's just one of his first match from two sets down. He's just come back from two sets to nearly win this. I think this is just work in progress. And David is the expert on those lift conversations or elevated conversations, depending on what parts of the world you're in, stefanos, sit to pass, will now face Yuri leche. In the quarterfinals, and that is because the hectare came from a set down to beat Felix auger adios theme and confirm the Netflix curse because all players featured in the first 5 episodes of Netflix, the Netflix series, and to be fair there are

"It's a blow because the thing is when you get on a run, when you do have that moment of reckoning in your life and you give everything and you will leave no stern and turns. You've got to make hey, you've got to start getting the results because time can pass you by. It was his birthday today as well. Oh, dear. Oh yesterday. That's harsh. Yeah. Left the court topless. He spends a lot of time on court topless. Yeah, maybe you thought, well, this outfit did look stupid after all. I liked it. It's one of those you got to be winning outfits, I think. Yeah. In a few years time, it might get shown to him and he might think well, did he lose in the third round in that? What else do we have? As you mentioned, Yannick sinner did come from two love down to be Martin Frick, which that was one where it was soon as synagogue on top in the third set. You thought, uh, ease, he's got this and I know we've had other results today that indicated and proven that nothing's a foreground conclusion, but he's the better player. That was one where most of the house was asleep. But I was just in a really good job talking about that much like I was awake for it. Well, you caught up. But I mean, the thing that it was that is the first time, I think I've ever woken up to the tennis being a good Aryan. To the next day, you know, and there's been loads going on. It's a very strange sensation. Yes, it was. But that's a sort of achievement unlocked, isn't it? I think, coming back from two sets to love down for the first time. I think it's quite important to do that earlier. I always think of Kyle Edmund, who has got this absolutely dreadful record when he goes two sets to love down. I don't think he's ever won a set when he goes two sets to love down. And you've got to, I think, build up that resistance and show players that you can do it, you know, just because you're two sets up on me doesn't mean you've won. And I think for someone like sinner against a guy like food Chevy, who, as we know, is physically extremely strong, coming back from two sets down is good. Although it sounded to me like food Chevy's really sort of lost the plot a bit in that match. I mean, those last three sets weren't even close at all. Well now that I've been so really exposed, I might as well just front up and say I slept through most of sits about against Greek sports. It didn't. Anybody anybody want to tell us about that? Well, I was watching sinner at the time. But I mean, it was also over in a bit of a flash. I mean, there was one close set and I get the sense that Sid surpasses his on it. Is in as good a place as he could be right now. And I noticed that Andrew does our Twitter said he feels something is different. He thinks this might be the one. I was going to point out that tweet as well, because Andrew didn't sleep through this. And his paid more attention, you know, his other matches have been happening when our attention has been divided among lots of matches and lots of stories. I haven't watched as much of it as Andrew, but I take his word for it. Yeah, and I think that's the point, isn't it? We have been drawn to sit to pass in slams before, because he's got himself in a bit of a pickle in one of the early rounds. You know, losing to Daniel galan, or he ran into Nick curios at Wimbledon, he has drawn our attention in the first week of slams, and for top players, that's usually a bad thing. I think what feels different is that he's completely sort of fast free. He's had really good scheduling. He's not ended up having to play really, really late, and that sort of mess him up. He's just got the job done, straight sets, and that to me is what feels different, like he's just getting on with it, and he's not getting embroiled in these slightly awkward matches. And he's completely unbeaten this year, isn't he? He was unbeaten at the united cup, had some really tough wins there. I think we could have helped him against church and bertini in particular. He's unbeaten for the season. Yeah, that's what I said. Going well, isn't it? I'm not doing too well with the old sleep you see. I was distracted, full disclosure again. Never to hide here. I was distracted by my next talking point, which is pre signed autographs. Oh yeah. This is a thing I do know about that sits a bass is doing this tournament. Tell us well, these dishing out instead of signing autographs, these dishing out pre signed pictures of himself. Studio or action. And they're also seems to be something going on involving a QR code. Which I don't quite very well thought through. Yeah. I mean, as Matt said to me, when I was baking some disdainful comments about this yesterday, I think it was all this morning or time ceased to mean anything. You know, it cuts out some faff. Yeah, you should be all over this. But there's something about this me, David, imagine having pre signed photos of yourself that you're just distributing. It's funny you mentioned that. I don't know. It's an indicator of, okay, no feeder on the ground. Whatsoever. Yeah. What does that aspect? And there's like, it's quite a nice thing to take to take the time and sign someone's tennis ball or they don't want the thing that sits a pass is giving them sign. They want their things. Or their T-shirt. They want the memory of, oh my God. It's rushing and signing my personal touch. This is just sort of a clinical it's not because we like your autograph that it is not also has he hand signed these photos. What do we think? Or has he just stuck them through a photocopier about hunter? I know what I would speculate the answer to that question is, but I have no idea. I mean, it's innovative. It's efficient. It's quite innovative for a tennis player in terms of in terms of signing an autograph. Nobody else has thought. I have thought there was one other player I think I've seen do that before. Can't remember who it is. But I'm sure I've seen that once before. But it's yeah. What we're doing now is fast likes to likes to plagiarize his tweets and maybe he's maybe he's copied this off someone else as well. Yeah, today he posted a photo of himself, if you seen this. Photo of himself, I think. I mean, is a lovely photo hitting a backhand, I think. And he's just sort of written a little tribute to the beauty of his own tennis. Great. I think stephanos and I just operate on slightly different wavelengths, I think. It's fairly safe to assume. He's different. Last result on the men's side to cover Yuri leche. Oh yeah, I saw that one. Yes, you did, David. Beat Cameron nori in 5 sets. I know Cameron nori went off to get his knee strapped in the latter stages of this, but to my eye, he seemed to be moving just fine.

"Well greetings from tennis podcast towers Melbourne where you find myself David and Matt on the sofa at a mere 33 minutes past midnight. It's an early night. We've finally done it. Of course, tennis hasn't finished for the day. Don't be ridiculous. It actually might be quite far from finished for the day because as we come to you on the second court at Melbourne park Maria thackeray, the 6th seed, one of only two Netflix participants still standing. Trails by a set to Julian, the 28 year old from China. She is, of course, coming back, she's three one up in the second set. As soon as she goes behind in the score, she mounts a comeback. It looks like it's probably going to a third. Who knows what will happen? We'll keep you posted, but if today has been anything to go by, what she might do is come back, but not all the way back. Yeah. I feel like that's been a theme. I feel like there have been a lot of people that saw what Andy Murray did last night. Sorry, this morning, and thought, I'll have a bit of that. But they're not quite Andy Murray. Yeah, I thought this is infectious. And he's inspired a few here, and they'll all have those images of Murray in their minds when they're two sets to love down. And I think they may well have done. But I think it just shows how hard it is. It's hard enough to do what Denis Shapovalov did, for instance, getting back to two cents or, but then you've climbed one of the mountains, and then you've got a climb another one, and it's different in the 5th. It's so different. Yes, we had Denis Shapovalov try it. Francis TFO try it. Yannick sinner did manage to come back from two sets to love down today. His first time doing that. And then there was an almost come back from Danielle Collins, wasn't there, she won a set, but couldn't finish it off. So yeah, that very much has been a theme, but I felt like I needed those sort of half comebacks in a way. I know that it sort of did end up dragging out the evening session, but to me, that's what got me back into tennis after my Andy Murray hangover because yes, there was a 5 minute period where it was like someone had run a jolt of electricity through Matt because it had been a slightly sluggish day. That's generous. Let's be honest. What topics other than tennis we could talk about in the vodka? The thing is even if you rewind further to how the day unfolded in the apartment, I mean, obviously we got to bed at 7 a.m. and then when you were up and about, everybody seemed in a great buzz in when we finally got up in the early afternoon and then Matt hit the wall. I did. I was prepared to almost have today is a bit of a write off, but then, yeah, that bolt of electricity was watching three matches simultaneously. It was sort of first day vibes all over again and they were all at such a crucial moment called a Medvedev. Her valor and TFO hack. I just found it absolutely exhilarating. I didn't know where to look. There were players fluffing chances, there were players taking their chances. It was just great there, and I feel like it's got me back into the tournament. It was my muguruza kvitova from the U.S. open, which got me back into it after the Serena story had finished and so I'm thankful for all those players. I'm re-engaged in the Australian open. I love watching Matt with his screens. It's one of my favorite Grand Slam things. I'm going to let you choose which of those matches we talk about first. And while you choose because I've put you on the spot there, I'm going to remind you all that this podcast and all our podcasts throughout the Australian open are sponsored by on location. The other day, a Carlos alcaraz, his posted a training photo today. I'm hoping, I'm hoping for Indian Wells for him. Oh, that'd be good. Wouldn't it? He's grown his hair out, David. I notice that. He looks younger, doesn't he? I always look at his hair as a sort of marker in some way. And I like it when he does the shaved head thing. But I'm already thinking about in the world. Although he's training on clay, so. Yes. Do you know what happened? A bloom and hope he's going to be in Indian Wells. We will be in Indian Wells will all be there together for the first time. "Talk about the definition of sleep. You and I have different sleep. Yeah. Matt talks through the Marin Cilic under arm serve because I doubt there'll be another one. Well, not after all crash did to it. What did you do? Chased it down and easily won the point. It was like, what the hell are you doing that for? I'm the first discount tour, basically. Against one of the biggest serves on tour, what are you doing? Burrow an extra part of the backdrop to make even more rooms. That will be my last thing memory of the match just some of the balls that alcohol has chased down. I mean, his movement is ridiculous and I wasn't actually planning to watch till the end, but just I just couldn't tear myself away because Alcatraz couldn't get fully ahead. He went two sets to one up. He had breakpoints galore in the third set and did that thing where he was quite wasteful, really. And chilik was awesome and took the fourth set and then went up a break at the start of the 5th and I really thought she was going to be tough to stop at that point. Credit to our careers. He broke back straight away. Absolutely stunning shot. And just when I was beginning to flag for energy, WhatsApp pinged. And I thought, oh, maybe it's David, maybe it's Catherine, they're watching it. No, no, it was Catherine's brother, math, back in the UK, who woken up early for a tennis match that he was meant to be playing at about 7 a.m., which he'd called off because he was watching cars and grass. He said, that was amazing. Good up at 6 30 to play tennis this morning. My tennis has been postponed by me. He said, are you on court with sleeping bags? It is one of those when there's an amazing match on and other people asleep. You just want to wake them up, dang it. I love it. And our crust now plays against Yannick sinner, who had that incredible match against iliar of ashke. And I'm into that because that's a rivalry. That's a rivalry that we need to be invested in. I think this may actually cultivating huge if sinner wins sinners beat an outcry as on every surface. In big matches, two at slams, one in a tour final. It would be hard to make a case, really. You know, I think this could be the rivalry for the next few years. You know, tones get set early in rivalries. Which are Gasquet. Are you comparing? Richard Gasquet? You just never know. I mean, you do know, but I mean, even Federer and Nadal. Yeah. Very good point. At the end. These early stages of we don't know that will end up being a rivalry for the ages, but if it is, these early stages feel significant and formative. The well set for a rivalry, aren't they? Because their age is their physicality, they seem to they seem to be in it for the long haul these two. And they have that federal adult thing of really sort of recognizing we could be onto something special together. Together we could be greater than the sum of our parts. They were eclipsed of their practice session together in Montreal, was it? I really like that. Okay. Good. Okay, well, I'm looking forward to that match now. Do you want to do shout outs in person Katherine or do you want to write them in? Would you prefer? Well, this isn't the end of the pod, is it? No, I know, but we could change things around. You could just slot them in. What would you prefer? What would you prefer Matt? Should we do them now? Yeah. Let's do them now. Real time. We've got Sarah Newman. Sarah. Hello, sir. Sarah says, I've been listening to the podcast since the U.S. open 2016 brackets when you had the fight with the bus driver. I remember that very well. That was also the one we walked into a tree. It was led into a tree, yes. But the argument with the bus driver, if you want to go and listen to it, folks, it's still there. And you actually hear that. Katherine and me having a conversation with a bus driver about letting Katherine on. And eventually we succeeded, didn't we? Did you get myself into these shapes and New York? Because as expressed on a previous podcast, everybody is either an absolute delight that you or not. Or what do you think you're doing, ma'am? Don't touch that man. It's very difficult to know which end of the spectrum, anyone's going to be at any given time. Okay, well, Sarah, thank you so much, not only for being our friend, but for a moment. I'm really pleased. If I might go and have a quick listen to that, maybe. Where are you petting my dog, ma'am? Not today. Yes I did. Yeah. And then I got policemen don't like that. But then I did a horse. I asked, but I said, is the dog working? And anyway, then it turns out there was a misunderstanding and actually he was fine with me, petting the dog. And then I ended up giving the dogs being given the dog's business card with his Instagram details on it. But the exchange started in a unpleasant way. Anyway. Right. But who's the next chant about? Katherine has the most incredible days. Does it? We just sit in our desks. I had an anecdote about having a weird experience in a shock the other day where I needed to call the store assistant to get toothpaste for me because it was locked away. The captain said, oh yeah, I went there and ended up with the store assistance number. Yeah. I left the way in Reed with yolande shouting. Call me, don't forget. I said, I won't, Yolanda. I'm really trying to forget. Okay. She was lovely, but I think we're gonna hang out. Who else we got? We've also got ta scene afros. Hello, who is in Toronto? Okay. Thank you. For giving me an opportunity to remind everybody that I dangled off the very tall building in Toronto ones and sobbed. In the process. Another day in Catherine's life. And finally, we've got Alex tracer Dern from London, and we have met Alex, we met Alex in the curtains up pub after a day at queens, last year. Lovely champ. He was wearing his tennis podcast. Yes, he was. Good pub that. Good pop. We had a little reunion, didn't we? In June, for the old queen's days. Happy memories, Alex, thanks for that. That's a nice thanks to that. And task scene and Sarah, love your brilliant. Yes, thank you very much. Hello and thank you. Okay, so Catherine, we'll see you tomorrow, Matt, let's go and watch curiosity against hashtag. Instinctively, you know, whereas it did occur to me with somebody who is proudly bearing the name of Russia. I mean, if anything, isn't the case because she's actively chosen not to represent Russia. I can see the point, but it hadn't occurred to me, really. It did occur to me. And as I said, I've seen the point doing the rounds in various circles. So I thought we needed to address it. But personally, does it leaves me sort of unmoved on where I fell on the whole thing? Same. How's the doll doing? He is 5 two up. Okay. We're still going to press on. He's just had a 30 shot rally that he's won. That was the rule. Great. Let's press on. I'll bring you tomorrow's order of play. Let's spin this out a bit while we find out if Nadal actually gets the job done. We start on center court with Novak Djokovic against Yannick sinner, and then it's Marie bozkov against Anne jabbar and court number one is the all German clash between Tatiana Maria and Julian niemeyer and then Cameron norrie facing David Goffin. Are we happy with that order of play? Yeah, I think so. It's something that I'm having to get used to really because it's not been done like this before the women's quarterfinals were all played together on the same day in the past and in one way I liked that because it just gave them the stage and the platform to be the center of attention all day long, admittedly over the two courts, but that's what you got. Whereas with this, the way it scheduled, you've got the men up against the women effectively with the men first on one court and the women first on the other court. That maybe isn't ideal. To some degree. But I don't know. I think it's a good order to play. I think it's right that noria, I think, is on court one. I think that's right with Djokovic against sinner on center. I'm not sure everybody would agree with that, but I think that's right. And yeah, I think it's a good order to play. What do you two think? Yeah, I think I agree, really. I think the point there about the men being up against the women, that is a bit of a concern in terms of how much the women will get on TV tomorrow, certainly here in the UK. I would have thought that they would start with Djokovic versus sinner and then obviously they're going to show norrie versus David Goffin. And they will show all of these matches. It's just that which one will they headline, headline with you on the main channel?.

"It does, not totally universally, but it does take longer for players with options to mature. Doesn't it? To figure out their game and deploy it in a way that wins wins, wins big tournaments. Has talked about that. Now, I know there's a fitness element on a belief element as well, but there's also figuring out how to use her incredibly massive tool bag, even Roger Federer took him longer than people expected. It to take it. Yeah, definitely. Whereas, you know, a Yannick sinner. I mean, I'm not saying he's one dimension at all, but it's very clear what his game plan is, and that's going to be pretty similar. Every time he walks onto the court, no matter who he's playing and what he's doing, he's drilling that fore hand, he's trying to take it early he's drilling the backhand. He's drilling his ground strokes. And yeah, some matches he'll try and play more into the opponent's forehand and some he'll play more into your opponent's backhand. But by and large, he's doing what he does. And it makes sense to me. Thanks, Billie Jean. It makes sense to me, that's somebody, somebody playing the drinking game is having two shots right now. For a Billie Jean bark, it makes sense to me that it is brilliant and precocious as alcaraz is. It might take him a bit of time. Yeah, I think that's true. And he still looks like a fool to me, finding his legs at suddenly discovering they work at times, particularly on grass, you know, he doesn't look you didn't look comfortable out there really. He didn't look like he knew what was going to happen next. Whereas sinner did for sinner, it was all second nature. This is what you do on grass, which is interesting in as much as he'd never won a grass court. But he didn't look like that. Whereas if you said outcross was in that position, you would believe that he was the one who would never want to grasp patch before because he just he wasn't playing grass court tennis. Sinner okay he's not, it may not be classic stuff, but his movement and his base and his foundation and his ability, his knowledge of when to go for a shot and when not to, there was a clear difference between the two of them. Even a spectacular winner I saw that aircraft hit down the line with the forehand. It was just a kind of all or nothing shot because he was so far out of court and he was going to overrun the ball so he either picks out the postage stamp in the corner or he's lost the point, no matter what. There's much more in the way of combinations being played by sinner in order to win points. And there were much more reliable patterns. If there were a men's backhand list, I think sinner would be on it. But there isn't. Not at the moment. I haven't got one. I think I tend to think more about women's backends. I just think the forehand is actually dominant shot in men's tennis, that the back can stand out to me more in women's tennis. Looking forward to developing that list over the next 12 months. I think I'm going to have to have goals. You can't have achieved everything already. There's a line from a book I love, Dolly Olsen book about. She and a girlfriend, I think it just discussing discussing men and one of them refers to a man in their life is not being very emotional. And the response to that is everybody's emotional is just some people and people process and deal with an express their emotions differently. And I do believe that is the case. I do believe Yannick sinner has emotions. We just don't hear about or see them very much. Unless he's in Italy, yes. Many only interim. Only in Turin. He was asked to describe his emotions after the virtual zone either on call interview and didn't go brilliantly. What did he say? I can't remember. Yeah, it was. It was underwhelming. Okay. Yeah. He's an understated guy and less into it. But with this not at all understated game. No, and honestly, his power takes me by surprise. I don't see it coming. The way he just suddenly can hit a hundred mile an hour forehand, seemingly without changing that much without throwing himself into the ball. It's such sweet timing. I think it's the first time I've watched him live. Anyway, I think he's now made quarter finals at three different slams on three different surfaces, which is quite a big thing. And I was thinking, actually, you know, I think we're very, very excited about our careers and obvious way, just because of what he's done this year. But actually, you know, sinner in a more understated way has done similar things, okay? He hasn't he didn't do what our crest did in Madrid and beat Djokovic and Nadal back to back like that. But and he didn't end up winning Miami like how Christ did, but he reached the final as a teenager. He's reached quarterfinals of slams, which is as far as outcomes has gone. There's a little bit of a similarity in that, I think they're both pretty humble, you know, they're both, I think Nadal would call them healthy people, both of them, you know, they come from good families and they both had this sort of father figure influence for sinnoh it was piazzi who is obviously no longer with and our crests for aero who he is still with. So I'm excited about sinnoh alcaraz as a potential rivalry to be honest. I have. I have. You can see it on all the surfaces. Totally. I'm here for that. Consider challenge Djokovic in the next round in the quarters. I'll tell you Djokovic looks amazing. Djokovic looks the best he's looked at this stage of Wimbledon to me. And I know it's recently and all the rest of it, but it's still how I feel watching him and I know he lost a set today, but even that was a guy playing out of his mind. Djokovic reaction times so finely tuned at the moment. But with proper intent on shots, he's not, he's not just rallying for the sake of he's not like extending rallies to 30 shots at all. He is going to make you pay. And he's going to do it quickly. This year. And I don't know. I'm not sure how you stop him. I'm not sure how you stop him..

"Super well. I don't know what I was thinking. Otter didn't have an answer, you know, Carlos sacras was all over him. Only 8 unforced errors definitely like the best we've seen alcaraz on this surface and obviously so far in this tournament. So yeah, I definitely call that one completely wrong. I mean alcaraz next round. That's one of the marquee ties I think for tomorrow in round four. But yeah, this was a great performance from our craz. Probably the best match he's ever played. On a grass court and I certainly think against Yannick sinner, he's going to need to be playing close to that level, you know, to have a chance. I put cinnamon maybe as a slight favorite actually. In that match up against our crest, simply because of the lack of alcohol experience on this court. She thinks sinner maybe has a little bit more and given the way he's been returning based on what he did against John Isner. Yeah, I put it in it as a slight favorite but I wouldn't be surprised Kim if that turns into an absolute slugfest and who knows, goes deep into a 5th set. Yeah, and yeah, I agree. I think it could well do. We also Joel, very excitingly. Tim van Wright haven into the fourth round. His dream run is continuing. I mean, he's got no back Djokovic in the fourth round, but at least he gets his moment on center court against the number one seed. Tim van Wright has a story. Yeah, he came through against bastard ashville. I mean, great stuff. I'm really happy for him. I'm really happy he got the wild card into the tournament, then that he's very much justified that wild card. And again, he's another player that is not benefiting from this from the lack of ranking points. You know, he would be right up there, wouldn't he? But yeah, that's a frustration, but hopefully he can give Novak a good run for his money to write when he's got absolutely nothing to lose. So I'm quite curious to see how he got someone against against Novak. And even though John Isner didn't get through for the Americans, we did have double American success from Francis TFO and Tommy Paul with tiafoe coming through Alexander bublik in four sets and then Tommy Paul coming through Yuri vesely in three sets. So yeah, I think going into the tournament Francis TFO, I was thinking, could he do something here? It's great to see him living up to the living up to his billing. I think he's into the fourth round for the first time. Tommy Paul, a little bit more of a surprise package. He's got cam norrie tomorrow who is in the forefront of Wimbledon for the first time. I swear another player Kim, we just like was in the third round all the time, so it's great to see him breaking through. I think you WhatsApp me saying, you think Tommy Paul's gonna win that. I have to say, given the way nori has been playing, I gotta put nori is that as the favorite there. But it's gonna be, I think it's gonna be a tough battle. I think nori shouldn't underestimate Paul because he is playing some very good tennis at the moment and another player who probably is going under the radar on the outside courts. Yeah, I mean, you're seeing this match tomorrow, I think, aren't you Joel on court one? I just feel captain Karen has done great getting through to the fourth round, you know, it's his first time at this stage, but I'm just sensing British disappointment. And I feel that Tommy Paul, yeah, I just, I feel like he's easy. Yeah. Exactly. I think he's easy to underestimate. And I just feel like he's had some good results on the grass building up to Wimbledon and I don't know. I feel like it would be four sets or something. I don't think he nor is going to lose in straights or anything. But I mean, I'm obviously wanting nori to win. I think it would be fantastic and well deserved for him to reach the quarters of a slam with all of his good results and titles over the last year or so. But yeah, I don't know, there's a lot of matches throwing that I've actually like genuinely quite open in terms of who's going to win. You know, I think there's some really, really decent ties and a few names. Yeah, I've been going on to the radar like Francis TFO, no one's really been talking about him. So it's nice that he's been able to come through and make it into, I guess, the second week, although it's the Sunday, this is the first. This is the first proper Sunday, isn't it? No, it's going to be. I know, we can't say it. They've reached the second week, assuming they've got to round four. Exactly. It's still the same. Still the same week. Yeah. I mean, talking of the schedule for tomorrow. Let's have a quick look at it before we end this episode. We've got on center court Watson and niemeyer opening up, followed by Yannick sinner Carlos alcaraz. And then Novak Djokovic versus Tim van Wright toven caught one has Tatiana Maria oster penko, norrie V Paul, and then mertens jabor, then in court two we've got buchek versus Garcia, and David Goffin, someone we haven't mentioned yet against Francis TFO. So some interesting matches there tomorrow, where are you, where are you looking? Well, I'm actually not going tomorrow. I'm going to stay at home and have a lie in because I have had zero sleep. I'm going to have breakfast in bed and watch Caroline Garcia. I think I left an a.m.. Is that technically breakfast time? I feel like that's more drunk. I'm going to have a French inspired brunch. Hashtag renaissance, some crepes, some crabs. Yeah, good decent crepes. Croissant. Yeah, we've got to get the baguette out. Maybe sure have a bakery. Bagels. Bagels and breadsticks. We'll see. Yeah, some kind of bread products. But I mean, talking about bread and food, you're going to court, why aren't you hospitality tomorrow? Get you. I know, oh, well, I was speaking. I think we should do, like maybe we'll do a little bonus pod of like a little Wimbledon guide of you and the queue and how to do that properly. And then I can do how to do hospitality properly. I've been picking out my clothes, all this week. I've been worrying about what to wear. Maybe I'll put it up on our Instagram tomorrow, just to show people how how tennis weekly handles hospitality at women. Are you going to wear a tennis weekly.

"On a personal note, she's always been great to me and great with people behind the scenes that queens and all the years that I worked there. Everybody just felt comfortable in a company, I think. There was never any grand sort of expectation around her. She's just a nice person really Catherine. I think you'd probably agree with that from your time having spent time with her. And it sat in a way, but I'm really pleased that she's sort of going to do it one more time before she stops. Yeah, I've had exactly the same experience of her in a very understated way, an extremely nice normal person. She's one of those people that, I mean, you know, she was part of the fabric of my childhood and I'm sure lots of people listening would say the same and you always get nervous meeting and experiencing people like that in real life because they can always only disappoint. But she was exactly she was always exactly what I hoped that she would be, you know, she's exactly as you expect and as you find her. And I wish her well for her retirement tennis in this country, tennis coverage in this country will look a lot different with her with her gone, I think. She's a love island fan, David. Is she? I've got a face. Holding up a T-shirt saying, I've got a text. Okay, so just me then. Who knows nothing about it? Pretty much. All right, fine. Okay, well you can introduce me to it. Tennis podcast towers, me and Billie Jane are watching. Still have no choice. Marvelous, okay. I'll watch one episode of it and then I'll go and do something good in my life. Right, Wimbledon qualifying is on this week. We've got it on at the moment in the background. And they're all in roehampton. The Wimbledon draw is going to be made on Friday at 10 o'clock in the morning. So it's going to be fascinating to see what that throws up. And of course, there's loads of players that will still be in action this week. When that draw is made, because eastbourne has got an ATP and a WTA event taking place at the moment with Cameron norian. Yannick sinner and Alex demeanor involved in the men's tournament, the women's tournament is a higher profile one and a bigger higher level tournament with pala bodasse and on sherbet was meant to be in the singles, obviously she's now only in the doubles. But alongside Serena Williams, we'd currently in a place called Maria Sakura and garbine magruder all due to take part. I mentioned Yannick sinner, he's been seen with Darren Cahill, which is quite an interesting development. And apparently they've been texting back and forth. And maybe this is the start of something. I think it's official, isn't it? That it is the start of something. I mean, it was rumored and then it was confirmed. Yeah. I mean, he's a very good coach, isn't he and sin is a good player and he needs a coach. So that's seems like. A good idea. I hate the word, but it's a good project to see what difference he might make to him, because I feel like we know what Yannick center is now, and all the locker room know what he is as a player now. What else has he got? What else? What's the ceiling? Because I feel like the ceiling as far as it goes has been reached. The ceiling's very levee, isn't it? Yeah. I kind of believe in him a bit more than Rublev, but I still, I think Dan Cahill wouldn't work with him unless he thought that the ceiling could go a lot higher than that. I top 8 in the world. He would want the guy to be atop way he wanted him to be well number one and actually I don't think he bothered without believing that he could be up there with alcaraz, for instance. I would question that in terms of raw materials, but very interested to see whether that makes a tangible difference or not. We have the ATP Mallorca event going on as well with Daniel Medvedev stephana sits a pass and Denis Shapovalov, there's another WTA event in a place called bad homburg. With Dario cassette keener Angelique Kerber Simona Halep and Amanda anissa mova. And we are going to keep across all of it because we'll be bringing you the results in our next shows over next weekend and when we get into Wimbledon and we'll have our dailies of course every night from Wimbledon, but before then we've got those two Wimbledon relived shows coming your way with our middle Sundays episode and then our juniors special as well. Matt has been borrowing away in the Wimbledon library, having the time of his life, having him at. I sure have, yes, several trips to the library this year and you can unearth some great stuff that you just do not find on the Internet in the Wimbledon library. And I should say, actually, that if anyone is going to Wimbledon over the next couple of weeks, you can just pop in to the library. In fact, that is active. That is actively encouraged. It's free to get into the museum with your ticket to Wimbledon and the library is sort of at the end of the museum. And you can go in there and look at all the newspaper clippings and archives and drawers and books. It's great. And at the risk of sounding like a relic from a bygone era. I absolutely love that there is still stuff that you can't find on the Internet. And that you have to go to a treasure trove for. I really love that, and that very romantic. And it's somehow more satisfying when you have found it through that means. And I can vouch for it because I was attempting to, I was attempting to pile some compiles some stats on scheduling equality at this lambs, the French Open, and for.

"Yeah, they knocked out a few of my phrase cocking axis curios as well and then cool off scup ski. In the finals. Yeah, very, very, very decent run John Isner. I don't know where this has come from, but that felt like a very much a scratch pairing. First side they paired 2022, but hey, it shows what you can do, I think, with two big servers on their game. You could just walk your way to the title. I do love Hubert haircut's outfit as well that I bright fluorescent yellow shirt. He was wearing this week and his shorts. Just look like he was off to the beach. It was very colorful and I don't know, he just had this like quite relaxed vibe about him. If you were John Isner and you had to pick Jack sock or Hubert her catch, who would you be game with? I'd go for who be hair cash a personally. I think he's won this tournament in the singles last year. Obviously likes these courts has a great game so a bit but obviously it doesn't matter for John is he seems to win with whoever. Walk our way to another title, yeah. Interesting. I'd probably still go with Jack sock. I think he's a more, it's probably more for me as a more accomplished doubles player, give him, I think what he did with that check pop hospital. But yeah, I mean, very, very, very, very handy for John is not schubert her cash. I mean, moving back to the singles as well. We've obviously got to talk about, I feel like we talk about this every week. Nick curios, Yannick sinner, Nick curios has been fined a total of $35,000 for his behavior during his round four loss to Yannick sinner. In particular, that first set, which curios lost on a tiebreak, he was, I felt like he was in constant constant should I say chatter, constant frustration with Carlos Bernard as the umpire. It was sort of awkward at one point Bernard is walkie talkie kind of went off during the point and they had to play let. But yeah, this was classic curios, I feel just finding something to get annoyed at that could potentially deflect from any sort of defeat. I think he sort of found Yannick sinner was a very cool, calm collected customer and was able to kind of very much deal with what curios was staring at him and I don't know if he was trying to set up a felt like he was trying to sort of set up a guard for himself. Against, yeah, any sort of loss that felt inevitable is the later we sorry, the more and more we got into the match. Yeah, I don't think those $35,000 worth of fines are getting to do anything though. Like we said before, he doesn't seem to respond to monetary punishments and just keeps behaving badly as he does. He also went asked about his behavior after the match just did not apologize. He just defended what he was doing and basically turned it around to Carlos Bernard is saying that he wasn't going to get a slap on the wrist, he said, for his dreadful umpiring performance so not even kind of taking any side of ownership over his own actions, just totally deflecting it. Which seems a bit. It feels like a fellow we feel like we made strides with Nick curios over the sunshine level because we saw he played, he was playing some really, really good tennis. I think he played some really, really good tennis in that match against Yannick sinner, but you know, obviously part of tennis is learning how to deal with the heat of the moment and in defeat as well. And again, there is still massive massive strides that the curiosity is to take in that department. So yeah, well, we'll see. I mean, he's interesting. He is scheduled to be playing in Houston on the clay. I can't remember the last time Nick curios played on a clay court. So I'm wondering how well his tennis on the hard court is going to translate to that given I can't imagine he would have trained or practiced a lot, but at the same time, yeah, I still think if he, if there is that magical moment, he can, well, that magical tournament he can keep it together. I think, you know, I certainly think you could go and win it, I feel like given what I've seen over the last over the last few weeks. He could do, but I don't know if any of the listeners are on this one, but I don't, I'm done with curios. Like if he continues to behave the way he does, I don't care what he does, tennis wise, because I don't want to watch him. He's not like a personality that I appreciate. And I don't really want to have his antics on the call. It's just a bad look for tennis. I don't think it's gone past the point of him being a character. He's just sort of just negative, actually, for the game, I think, despite his innate talents, you know, so there's plenty of other players that have talent and behave better. And I think they deserve our attention more. I know we've been guilty because we talk about Kira's a lot. And maybe I'm being a bit harsh, but I've just kind of got to my tolerance threshold with curios right now, so perhaps I'll see differently in a few months. But maybe I'm being a bit harsh listeners Lesnar, what you think on this one. But let's take a quick break now. But do join us in the second half, we'll be having a look at all the women's results from Miami, including eager trion tech, ceiling, the sunshine double. Naomi Osaka's hardcore resurgence and also we'll be looking ahead to the start of the clay season, so do not go anywhere. "Managing that big hammer first serve from bertini and that one two that one two serve big forehand that I think he likes to play and mitigate from playing too many double handed backhands. So might just come down to a question of whether Nadal can kind of stay in the rally on his Serb beyond those sort of one two punches. And get it onto his backhand as much as possible. Yeah, I think it's I feel like some people have been saying, you know, rappers never had such a good chance to get another Australian open title. You were writing him off. You were writing him off. I swear before any tennis had been played in Belgium. I think, you know, Rafa, no, but to be fair, rapha said himself for even like two months ago or whatever he wasn't sure if he'd be back. So I think he wasn't crashes four months ago. Unbelievable. Yeah, so he's surprised himself. He wasn't really sure. So I think we just need to literally appreciate the fact that he's at this stage. And that's what I'll be focusing on anyway, facing about that rather than stressing too much about the end result. One player that had a very relaxed quarterfinal was stefanos sits pass because he swept past Yannick sinner in straight sets 6 three 6 four 6 two. This was a very comfortable victory. I have to say, I thought this would be a lot closer. Since bass didn't even face a break point, very comfortable and serve and I mean, is he blooming, peaking at the right time? He's been quite under the radar, I think a lot of people had written him off, you know, ourselves included because of this recent elbow surgery. But it seems to have helped in the fact that he doesn't have pressure on him. He's just kind of got through those a few tougher first rounds and maybe he's literally turning it really on just the right time. Yeah, yeah, definitely I think the funny we spoke about Nadal and his injury troubles as I said, he had a photo of him from three, four months ago with him on crutches and perhaps he's surprised him himself by the fact that not only is he playing in the Australian open, but is able to get to the semifinals. Well, yeah, it sounds like we've sister passed with his elbow, we've had reports of his doctor saying that he wouldn't be even ready to play the Australian open after his surgery. So I think he's perhaps surpassed and surprised with how well he has done. I wouldn't say it's necessarily as pretty and maybe as serene as some of the other players who have kind of got to this stage. But at the same time, he's still in the drawer and he is now, I think firing on all cylinders. I think he needed. I think that Taylor Fritz mats almost kind of jolted him, I think into realizing or I think certainly making him play close to his best tennis. And I think he's just carried that through into this match against Yannick sinner, who I think will be disappointed with how it went, because I certainly think he is better than that. I certainly think he's better than just losing in straight sets in very kind of comprehensive fashion. But at the same time, I don't really think his pass gave him a look in. 79% of first serve points. He had early breaks in each set. It was just all very comfortable. And I think cinder will be disappointed with just how comfortable it was. He could have perhaps been a bit too passive and placid and I still think sinner was still talking about him as a player who's maybe a little one or two steps behind like a valo for a Felix ogier aliasing in the sense that it doesn't have the nausea I feel to really kind of test the top top players in the grand slams when it comes to the when it comes to fourth round quarterfinal stage. It all just seems to it all just seems to kind of fall apart quite quickly for him. Do you think he's going to be another Grigor Dimitrov? A lot of promise and expectation, but perhaps not able to deliver at the real slam stage. I mean, he's still extremely young. I'm probably being very harsh. I just really need a bit more oomph and I'm a fan of sitting. I would love him to get that extra edge, but do you think he needs Carlos alcaraz is his body coach over the summer? Well, yeah, maybe he does need to beef off a bit, but everyone has a different physique, so not saying that that is necessary, but I just, yeah, I feel like he just needs that extra something to finally. I just feel like, yes, we were all looking forward to this match being a lot more competitive. And perhaps in time, it will be, because these two are going to be playing each other a lot over the next few years or so. So, you know, it's a learning curve. I'm sure he'll look back at what he couldn't should have done. But 6 pass was very, very good today. And I mean, going into the semifinal with Medvedev, this is a repeat of last year's semi when Medvedev one in straight sets. It's slightly different. You know, it's went into that match, having had that long 5 setter with Rafa. He was quite tired. It was quite obvious that he didn't really have full vitality in that match, I think, so never came through quite comfortably. I have to say, I think it's going to be a lot closer this time around. I know Medvedev has a winning head to head, I believe, over sits past. Yes. Yeah, he's 6 two. 6 cis two in the head to head. Cis did win their last encounter, but that was on clay at Roland Garros. I think Medvedev will have good memories, obviously, of beating him in straight sets last year. I would not surprise if it is a completely different affair. I don't think I don't think you can actually read too much into that match. They played in the semifinals last year. I think they're going to have to just treat it. Treat it differently. I do wonder if Medvedev is going to have to play more like Novak in order to come through to his pass. He seems to be firing on all cylinders and peaking at the right time. I still do think Medvedev should have too much for him. It also didn't look like his hip was really troubling him. So I don't think there's going to be any potentially injury nigga. So I do still favor Medvedev, but I do think that at the same time force this to pass this is a very big and decent opportunity I think for him to reach the Australian open men's final probably at a time he was maybe least expecting it. Well, exactly. And I think for quite a few of the certainly him and Raphael, I think, you know, health wise, they're both bouncing back from situations that they just thought would have them out for a lot longer or forever. So we'll have to see how it goes. That will be the nightmare on Friday, hoping for an entertaining one because we've had some very inciting course finals. Ladies draw on the other hand, slightly less entertaining in the quarterfinals, but we'll get on to that after very quick break. So do join us in just a second where we'll be looking at those quarters. Okay, do not go anywhere. Welcome back to the passing shot with Joel and Kim, sponsored by download tennis dot com..

"You know, he wasn't trying to bail out and pull the trigger too early and go for highlight highlight real shots, which maybe has a bit particularly on the forehand side in the past. I was so impressed with them and I'm gutted for him really. And what struck me, I don't want to be harsh on sit to pass because I was ultimately so impressed with his fight and his desire and his tenacity tonight. I really was, but what really struck me was looking at two players, one who's improved immensely and sits a pass who may be is the same player he was a year or two ago. I don't know. He might just not have found his full form this tournament. He might be troubled by that elbow, although it seemed to be okay tonight, certainly his service beads were fine, but maybe that's not a fair comparison, but one of those two players was so improved. Obviously, coming from a starting point further behind and I don't know, don't know how much it's bus has improved, you know, since well, since I think maybe he was talking about the relief that his elbow doesn't hurt and it obviously had been hurting in the past before he had the surgery and he spoke to Tim henman who's had elbow surgeries in the U.S. sport interview and that was the overriding impression he gave was just of somebody who's relieved that the elbow doesn't hurt anymore. But I think what it has done is probably hampered his progress because if you've had 6 months of not of being in pain, you're probably not going to improve in that time. And then what the surgery will have done is taken something out of his off season, so it will have been about getting back to full fitness rather than making incremental improvements, I think. And he found a way to win tonight and looking at the stats. I mean, they go with your impression of the tennis you saw, which is certainly my impression too. 15 break points for Taylor Fritz to 5 of sisa pass. That is, that is grim read in for Taylor Fritz because he should have won that match, and he knew it as he walked off that court, shaking his head. He knew it. He should have won that match in his mind, took two out of 15. I hope for his sake he can use that to get it right next time. It can go either way, can't it? But just tactically, I thought, it's quite interesting that sits a pass through in a load of sliced again. And also a lot of short armed jab flat backhands down the line just to change it up things that I don't really associate with him. It's all the flourish in the past. I would like to think that that's maybe not an improvement because it doesn't look quite right yet, but it's an open mindedness to trying to improve. Yeah, my feeling was in principle. This is good that is something you need to develop in your game, but at the moment it's not very good. It was sort of the ultimate compliment to both of them because Fritz I think forced sits a pass to change his game a little bit. And sit surpass responded by doing it. They both did what they should do out there. And yes, it's a pass. His slice should be better than it is. I think, can get better than it is, but it wasn't always ineffective tonight. And I think just the fact he was using it was kind of a positive. I do find sit surpasses current place in tennis, quite interesting. And what you're saying there about Fritz being one who's improving. We're also seeing alcaraz improve in a very fast rate. We're seeing Yannick sinner improver very fast rate. Sit to pass has had a couple of years now where he's been the young guy knocking on the door. And now there are other people knocking on his door, knocking on Medvedev's door, knocking on Djokovic's door. It's an interesting place. It's a pass finds himself in. Now, I think he's often been assumed to be the sort of next in line to get the major. And by people making big Greek productions. By people who were forced to make predictions every week. And actually maybe that is going to change him a little bit. He was asked in the post much into your own court by a slightly nervous Sam growth. The question was, it's definitely been flying really under the radar. This tournament, no one's really talking about you. How are you finding that? And I don't think it's a past liked that very much. I think he very much wants to be on top of the radar. The star of the Netflix. As evidenced by, you know, how proudly he told everybody that he was part of the Netflix show, and I knew about the Netflix before you knew about the Netflix, you know, under the radar, I don't think he's worth it to pass once to be. Are the most sense when I listen to him is that he just doesn't think like everybody else, and he doesn't even know what's going on from one point to the next in terms of what the score is, so I don't trust that he knows where he is on the right to be quite honest. I don't think he is in his own little world after time, isn't he? Bless him, but I don't know what he's banging on about half the time, so, you know, I love watching him play tennis, and he seems to be a really nice lad, but I don't sense that he's got any idea where the radar is. Who's the favorite? When he takes on Yannick sinner in two days time Matt and I Matt and I when we were watching, I think we were midway through the 5th that Fritz hadn't been broken yet. It was Nippon tuck..

"Went. And I also think Felix is a really good FrontRunner. Once he gets confident and he's on the role and then suddenly he just rolled him comfortably. But I'm still not convinced by Oceania seam. I think he is beatable by people that probably shouldn't beat him. Well, great FrontRunner is actually exactly how Dan Evans described him today. And you've given a more charitable assessment of Evans performance than he gave his own performance but he agreed with you about the how crucial those break points in the first set was, he said, I panicked. I panicked after I didn't take those break points, and he and I think he put down that sort of lack of composure. He put it down to the walk over that he got in the second round. He on reflection and that's the first time he said he's ever had a walk over in Islam. That was not a good thing. He said at the time, he thought, oh, great. Brilliant. But it turned out to be really not a good thing. He said it was flummoxed by it, lost momentum, had too much time to think about the match today. You also said he'd he wishes his taking the opportunity to check out the court that he was playing on today. He was really, yeah, flummoxed again by his surroundings. He was irritable with everything. It was the John Cain arena David. Which we discussed yesterday on the pod and it's different to everywhere else. At Melbourne park. There was also a concert going on outside. There was, although that was the highlight of the match, he said, he didn't sound like it at the time. Yeah, well afterwards, he said that the hearing rocket man was the highlight of his afternoon. He was getting really wound up about that in the first set. And I did think about that. You know, that I can't ever remember him having had a walk over in a Grand Slam. And the pace of these are fidgety guy he likes to be doing stuff all the time. He's not, you know, I don't think that would have sat well with him thinking about it. And yeah, constantly looked on the edge of his nerves out there. So we've got chillage trying to pull off another movement killing in the next round against Felix or gerarde. It's quite a movement tea half of the draw, actually, isn't it? Because we've got Alex de menor against Yannick sinner as a fourth rounder Alex de menor beat Pablo under her pretty handily on the rod laver, arena tonight, he was very touched by the fact that he was playing not only on the rod laver arena in prime time, of course, Saturday night in Australia, but also in front of rod laver himself. He would that really meant a lot to him and there was also quite a lot of adorable dog chat in the post match interview which videos and videos Enzo the dog. It was all lovely. Stimulus dog is it? All right. Golden retriever called endlessly. I've also written in the agenda here, something to do with the nipple, which I need mat to explain. Yes, after they showed the picture of his dog, they showed a very close up video of his nipple because that's where he's got his Davis Cup number tattooed like all of our previous backers when they didn't give their full name when they were anonymous. And Jim Courier asked him about what the number 109 and representing Australia being part of the Davis Cup team means to him and in short a lot. Yeah. I've got it literally burned into my skin. That's how much it means to me. Him and sinner is a match I really like the sound of. Me too, David. I said that to Catherine and got a bit of a blank response. I find Yannick sinner a little bit of a vibe killer. I didn't insure in last year, have to say that's given me pause for thought I saw a different sinner at the ATP finals in Turin and I'd liked it. And look, I love his game. I just find this not much to get your teeth into. Yeah, so I don't know what you mean. I don't want to lay into the guide. Active negatives to say about him. Yeah. You all, I'm pleased for you. I'm pleased that everybody's excited. Look, it will be big up here. And that could be exciting. The atmosphere I think around that much will be exciting. His big ball striking against diminish scurrying is a combination I like the thought of. I mean, I was just having a quick look and it's two zero head to head sinner. One of those being the next gen finals, which I don't know how much to put into that. But you know I just can imagine the rally construction making for some gasping moments from the crowd, you know? Yeah, what David said. I am excited for that. I think sinners shots a girl's been using and diminishes movement is gasping. And also diminish started that thing where he's trying to be the aggressor in points more now as well, which I like that mindset of him trying to stop the other guy taking hold of a rally and whether he's whether he's able to do it or not. Okay, so I'll be watching and I'll be hoping it's a great match. We've got Taylor Fritz again Stefano sits a pass also in that hospital. It is good. I'm really excited about this one actually. And I haven't I haven't given that much deep thought to Taylor Fritz. Over the years, I don't know whether you have it, I was aware of him quite early, I think I remember following the I think he was beaten by valov in he was with he was in the Shapovalov generation of junior champions. I think the year that Shapovalov on junior Wimbledon Taylor Fritz won the junior U.S. open Tommy Paul had won the junior French Open that year and this is Taylor Fritz's first time into the second week of Islam. It is taking him a lot longer. Than his than his next gen cohorts. And I hadn't quite registered that. It's been a bit tougher for him than it has for the others. And he beat Roberto Bautista a good today. 6 four in the 5th set. Right. Passage. Yes, David. You took the words right out of my mouth and he was really emotional afterwards. This means something to him and I went to his press conference and I've never spoken to Taylor for it to provide a date. If I have, then it wasn't memorable. I put it that way. You're both forgotten it. Yeah. He loves it. I'm sure I'm sure you remembers it really fondly, but I have forgotten it. And I found it to be really engaging. And really straightforward and very open and I asked him whether this felt a long time coming and he said hell yeah pretty much. It has felt a long time coming. He said he never doubted that it would happen. But he really feels like he's had the rough end of some draws over the years. He and he has. I mean, the players he's lost to in the third round before. I would say only son ago would be one that you would count as a bad loss, otherwise it's been team Federer, Djokovic, and there's a reason for that which he went into in some depth. He said he said something really interesting actually about it often being better to be unseated in a Grand Slam drawer than to be one of the seeds 25 through to 32 and he feels it's made a massive difference getting himself out of that bracket and getting his ranking up so that he seeded in the 17 to 24..

"Yeah, it looks amazing. I mean, looks amazing. Listeners, if you want to look at what the world's oldest ATP indoor tournament stadium looks like, it's a real tennis hall, and it looks really, really old school with benches behind behind the core. Yeah, it looks fantastic. A fantastic setting for a tournament. And yeah, we've got Yannick sinner as the top seed Felix OJ alia seem as the second seed. And then Dan Evans and Denis Shapovalov also in there to round off the top four seed Andy Murray, another wild card is in there. He could face Yannick sinner in the first round has a sorry in the second round. Has a qualifier in the first round. You know, other players of note Kim, you've got Francis TFO. Van der zand shot who I think has having pretty decent post U.S. open run of tournaments. You've also got who else have you got? You've got Dennis easterman. Dennis esterman. I think, which is nice to see. He's been he's been out for ages, or hasn't been on the tour in ages. I should say. And Leo Borg, Bjorn Borg's son he's actually lost today, but he did have a wild card, but he's lost to Tommy Paul. I'm most interested in, I think Taylor Fritz in that top half could be quite dangerous. I mean, we spoke about his form. He lost to Novak got through to causes. I think lost to Novak Djokovic in Paris. I think he could be a dark horse to get to the final I'm assuming Yannick sinner is playing this just to keep his tennis racket warm as a potentially coming in as an alternate depending on what happens to sister pass over the next over the next few days. But yeah, certainly think Taylor Fritz could be quite a dark horse. Andy Murray though is going to be extremely motivated for this. I mean, I'm sort of this epic game, but I'm quite worried in the sense that if he can't put a run together at ATP two 50 right at the end of the season when this draw literally had about 80% of the people drop out of it and I'm sort of like, well, when can he do it? So I'm sort of hoping for a good run from him, but very, very tough if he does face the top seed in January cinder in the second round. Yeah, you'd expect him to get through Victor durasovic who is a Norwegian qualifier in the first round. But sinner, well, sinner Andy, I'm up for that. I have to say, if you get that. I think on that note, we will let our listeners, you know, get on with their days or evenings or back to the tennis match that may have been back to Lynn's or Stockholm. "It's actually just going to nullify the sabalenka power game. And maybe it favors someone like a Zachary, for example, who I think is a lot kind of more has maybe a little bit more dimension to the game a little bit more variety and can just sort of war of attrition style when matches on slow courts. So I don't know. There's a lot of there's a lot of ifs and maybes and buts and yeah, I'm not sure I'm not sure where it's going to go. Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if someone like Maria Zachary won won this event because, you know, she's the first time obviously here and she hasn't actually won a title this season. But I just sometimes with this event, you do get a rogue winner because they all deserve to be there. But someone who perhaps will have a big tournament like a week of their life and then, you know, they perhaps won't do much else or this will be like the biggest victory. I'm just thinking about to end Switzerland one this event and we'll see a great great week and you beat your fellow top players in the top 8. But yeah, it's a shame, obviously bharti and Osaka are not there. But we do have a fantastic lineup and the call I think is going to be quite a slow court. It's a higher altitude. So it probably won't favor like the push covers of the world so much. Perhaps that's going to help, you know, perhaps someone like a muguruza or badosa and, you know, in Spain, have got, you know, two players there, which is great. So I feel like even bedou so she does like a slower surface, isn't she? So perhaps she's gonna be a dark horse as well. You know, she won Indian world, why can't she win this? Yeah, yeah, I agree. It's really open. I mean, you've got as well as kind of two Spaniards. You got your two check players in critique, but also hasn't won a title this season. So I wouldn't be surprised if she went and you know, I won this. I mean, she is probably the most experienced player. And it might come down to experience playing being able to play the big points, play the big matches. I certainly think that, you know, when she is on form, she can be very, very hard to very, very hard to beat. And again, she might be a player to watch out for. We just don't know, I think until we see those first that that first match or see other group stages kind of stand up. But yeah, it'll be interesting to see. I think the players scheduled to start, I think, on Wednesday, the draw is midnight UK time tonight. We've also got the doubles Kim as well. And again, another reason I'm not sure about how could she have this going to do? Because critique of it is in the doubles as well, with signac. They are the number one ranked team. So the fact that she's going to be doing double duty at the end of season 5s, that is quite cool. There's probably a little bit of a claim to fame, but at the same time, it's going to be very, very tiring for her no doubt playing lots and lots of tennis after again, a long season where she just again just looks very low on energy at the Billie Jean King cup. Yeah, absolutely. And I mean, I know you'll be supporting Sam Stosur in the double, so you ain't blind. Yeah, it's a lot of tennis. She's played, perhaps it is kind of catching up with her now. But having said that, her and signia have been the standout doubles pairing, really, of the year, them and I am inhibitor. So I wouldn't be surprised if they, you know, just focus all out, this one last week at the end and they have a nice rest in December afterwards. But we await we await this coming draw in this coming week with great expectations. And as we do for the next gen finals, Joel, which are also, well, not also initially. They are in Italy. Italy, obviously you've got both of the tool finals for the men, which is, you know, they're just hogging all of these events. How rude. But it's got a great lineup, this event. We got alcaraz, nakashima, sarin dolo. And that is, I think Juan Manuel Manuel sandell, yeah. Not the other one. Holgar rune, they're in group a, and then we've got Seb called Lorenzo masetti, is it Sebastian Baez? I personally wasn't that okay with Sebastian Baez, but he's there. And Hugo Gaston in Group B yeah, very, very exciting group of players. We have unfortunately no Yannick sinner. No Felix ogier alia seem. And I was a little disappointed. No jettison Brooks Brooks beat either. They've all kind of withdrawn through injury and oh, sorry, but brooksby has withdrawn through injury. I know sinner and oge aliasing are playing Stockholm this week. I don't know if sinner's going as an alternate to the end of season finals. But yeah, for the next gen, it feels like yeah, alcaraz certainly is going to be the favorite. I think quarter as well as that very memorable where I'm not Wimbledon earlier in the season. I'm not really expecting much from the South Americans on indoor hard courts. I saw there, their records. They just feels like they just played right at the moment on clay in South America, the challenger circuit. So I'm not sure how well adapted they are going to be to playing on an indoor hard. I think whole grain also could be quite a dark horse along with Hugo gas on. I think ruins just one his fourth challenger title of the year and obviously Gaston had that memorable run in Paris. So there's a few players certainly inform at the moment. And I think, yeah, ours is probably the one you're looking at thinking, given his wins against top ten opponents. And he beat Yannick sinner in Paris, I think. So you sent me I would install him as the favorite, it would be interesting to see actually how he bounces back from that capitulation really in Paris against Gaston and whether there are any kind of hangovers from that because he is still quite young, still quite fragile and he would do really well, I think to kind of block that out of his mind to just focus on his tennis, but you know, don't know if that's going to happen. Yeah, I mean, I do feel that corner and alcor as the standout favorites. I'd also throw nakashima in with that because he's had a great summer, although more so in America itself. But, you know, what I love about this event, it does throw up some, you know, young new talent and you know, I feel like we know some of these boats fairly well, apart from perhaps Sebastian barriers, but be good to get to see more of him. The main thing really from this tournament is that they are using it as a test bed for new rules and enhancements, perhaps that they may introduce further down the line onto the actual tool. We've got a kind of some of the key changes which the first one shorter warmups. So we're only getting one minute for the warmup instead of four minutes. So, you know, straight out onto court one minute off you go start. Courtside coaching, they're opening up coaching from the sidelines. You don't need headsets, so I guess that's going to be a lot more open and obvious. They are doing limited medical timeouts, only one player per match..

"I didn't really expect either of them to ever qualify for the WTA finals to be quite honest with you. She's showing she's got another level, another injection. Yeah, I agree with that with that comparison players who don't have bad losses who are very consistent, but you feel there's a limit there. And they don't win that many titles. Certainly, I think had only previously won one in her career. And as you said, she's won four in the last ten weeks, I think. It's an incredible run of form. It's reminiscent of what svetlana kuznetsova did in 2016 to knock konto out of the final position. Although that was later, I think wasn't contour in the official photos for the WTA finals. Yeah, because that's of it did it by winning Moscow. That's right. The final of which was the day before the WTA finals in Singapore, of course, so finals day, Moscow was draw, draw and photo shoot day in Singapore. This was the only way cultivate was going to get in. You know, she had to win back to back tournaments in these last two weeks. And for her to do that, she just seemed on a mission. You know, she just seemed more determined to get to every ball to hit every ball a bit harder. There was this there was something extra about her in these last two weeks. She's been not only has she been winning. She's been winning easily. I think she's won 30 of her last 31 sets indoors, 15 match winning streak indoors. It's incredible. She was about a thousand points behind on shiba in late August. And she's now overtaken her. Some cracking Twitter activity from monster bear, though, in response to it, and first of all, just congratulating her and obviously she's devastated. What a love about the two of them is how positive the spirited they've been towards each other well meaning and a little bit of Mickey taking as well. But really nice vibes between the two of them. And the biggest thing of the lot is just how much it means to them. How much they desperately want to be there when conservate one match point. It wasn't just I've beaten Simona Halep and won this tournament. I've qualified. You know, you could see that this was a career moment for her and the same Francis hearts breaking for her a bit because she looked like she'd made it, and she probably she deserves to be there as well. I mean, she said I'm going to go as an alternate. But yeah, she must be devastated. So the lineup now is in a sabalenka carried in the Pliskova, ygritte film tech bubble or critique of a Maria Zachary garbine mega ruther pala ba dossa and Annette conservate. So yeah, it's a strong old field, even without Naomi Osaka, and ash bhatti, who are not going to play. Three of the four Grand Slam champions this year, not their ash party, amaretto and naming Osaka, as you said, and yet the field is still strong. The cheeky face propping up all these fields. She's just loving life and making the most out of it. She did not see any of this coming. Which is great. Well, I suspect more of it will be coming our way in the future. She's that good. A few other results, the WTA event now Catherine, you might need to help me with the pronunciation here, both you referred. Is it cornea? Call my right. That's in France. I understand. No, it's in it's in Italy. Nearly. It's very near to France. I saw the word Mont Blanc when I looked at that, but yes, it's that bit of Italy that's near France and near Switzerland. Close, Dave. Good try. Run by Donna vekic. Got that bit right. And she won her first title in four years beating my fave, chlora Towson. But Donna Vic it's one title. So well done her. The ATP tournament in Vienna was one by Alexander's Vera of beat Francis tiafoe, who was, I mean, he was the story of the tournament from what I was watching in highlight foreman, Twitter. I didn't watch full matches over the course of the last week because I was away. But beat Stefano sits surpassed Diego Schwartzman and Yannick sinner to get to the final. And the Tennessee produced against sinner was just ridiculous. There's a two or three minute highlight reel that the tennis TV guys put together. We tweeted it from our account. And I could just watch it over and over again. You know, see if I may never play a better sort of highlight reel than that. And yet he probably will, because he's just so exciting and he's I do feel like he's shown an upper level that's higher than I ever thought he got. Is that fair? Would you agree with that or not? It was interesting. I saw you tweet that. And I think personally, I've always felt that he did have a high upper level, just thinking back to when he played Roger Federer in the first round of the U.S. open on the Arthur Ashe stadium. I think four years ago and he was electric that night. You know, he sort of built for that big stage. And I've seen him beat Stefano sits a pass at Wimbledon this year, and he just took him apart. I think for me, I've always just doubted whether he can do it week in week out. And the grind of it and whether his whether his lower level is high enough, I suppose, and just to get some bog standard wins. We know he can do the fun stuff. But I must say, I suppose what I saw from him this week was even higher than I've ever seen. I thought he was absolutely incredible. I couldn't believe my eyes watching him against Yannick sinner, the his serving was fantastic, but also the variety he was playing with. It was really really smart as well, because it seemed both instinctive for him, but also the right thing to do to take sinner out of his baseline rhythm and TFO was coming to the net and injecting pace and then also just having fun with it, you know, high fiving people in the crowd and hitting tweeners and it was the full package, and I was all in and I thought I thought he was fantastically entertaining this week and combining it with winning tennis as well. So it was brilliant. I think that coaching relationship with Wayne Ferreira is really working. I don't quite know, I don't quite know. How, you know, we don't have the insight into coach player dynamics that we do or used to do with the WTA Tour. But, you know, we know Wayne a bit from the champions tour, David, he's a very amiable, easy to get along with guy. I think his I can totally see how his energy works with Francis TFO and there was there was a piece on the ATP website about their relationship and their dynamic and the headline was how for Aries helping TFO walk the fine line between fun and focus. And I think that's his career, isn't it? Because, you know, there's just no, you know, we all need to have learned from Monfils. And there was just no point in trying to put a square peg into a round hole. Take away the fun,.

"TFO sets up a final spare of in Vienna. Cultivate meats. In Transylvania, and Novak Djokovic makes his return for the Paris masters. Kim, we are here Sunday boarding. It is early, but the reason we're doing it is because I excitedly am catching a flight to Prague to watch the fed cup. Yes, I know it's called the Billie Jean King cup, but that for me is a bit of a mouthful. So I'm still calling it the fed cup. But yeah, we are here bright and early on Sunday morning to have a bit of a chat about all the tennis that's been going on this week as usual. But obviously this time, we're going to be previewing the finals, which are happening on later today. Absolutely. I'm very jealous Joel that you're managing to escape this terrible weather that we're having. Miserable. It is beautiful outside. I'm going to seek refuge in the indoor readers of the indoor court of Prague. I think it's going to be quite cold out there, but yeah, hopefully none of this none of this rain that I'm just looking out the window and it's just absolutely lashing it down. Prague is a lovely place. So I will look out for you on the telly and hopefully see you that way. But yeah, we do have a whole host of tournaments to catch up on not quite finished just yet, but almost finished. And let's begin with Vienna, because I think that's the main one that's been going on really this week. The ATP 500. Lots of stories involved in this one. You know, not to mention the likes of cam nori and Yannick sitter and her cash all trying to get those sort of points on board for making a final place at the Turin ATP finals. But we also had Andy Murray in action who had a great win. We've got a final between Francis CFO and Sacha's very have lined up for today. So lots to discuss with this tournament alone. And let's begin with the final that we've got lined up because I think it's very pretty predictable. He's had a great week generally speaking, he's had to come through and a few three setters. But he's made his way into the final he's been playing pretty well. And I expect him to win later on today. But Francis TFO has had a fantastic week. He's had some big scalps. He beat Stefano sits a pass, he beat a Yannick sinner yesterday also Schwartzman. So he'll be certainly not one to certainly going to give it us all today in the final, isn't he? Yeah, it's amazing on one side, yeah, we've had sort of a predictable I mean various playing some very, very good tennis. It all came together against alcaraz in that semifinal. I thought that was going to be like a I actually thought that was going to be like the long three setter and the TFO said about just going to be kind of a straightforward job for sinner, which was it was looking like that for the majority of it. But it was a complete opposite way round and yeah, it's very, really brought it all together in the semifinal. As you said, had a kind of a few three set victories on route. But yeah, he really kind of made sure in that semifinal he was just able to kind of shut down our craz. And again, he's just been serving immensely at the moment and I think really helped him in terms of winning those three points, putting the pressure on the returner in their game. So that was I think to be expected, but yeah, very, very impressive from zverev. But yeah, Francis chia fei has been the surprise package this week has. I mean, he came through, came through qualifying as well. Wasn't even kind of in the main draw automatically, which I think shows you how loaded this draw was, but yeah, to come through sister pass Schwartzman. And then Yannick sinner, who he was a setup, he was 5 three up in the second set as well. And then TFO storms back and wins it. I mean, this guy, he just, you know, he just feeds off the energy of the crowd doesn't he always looks to them for inspiration and once he got that sniff that there was a potential comeback on. He just had that. I just think he had that belief and I think that enabled him to use that belief to get him through and win in three sets win those big points and yeah, he'll be absolutely delighted with himself, because, you know, he's a player who is immensely talented, but I mean, up until April, April 2021, I saw this on Twitter. His record against the top ten was one three lost 21. I mean, he was a player who, you know, was there on the tour? Doing well, doing well for himself, but not necessarily, I think exceeding expectations as much as perhaps some people might think. But I certainly think with this tournament, she's shown us, I think another level to his game. And as I said, I think he just loves feeding off the crowd energy and he's using that, I think, to kind of propel him to new places and new achievements in his career. Yeah, it's a little surprising that he had to qualify for the 500 but it does just show you, yeah, it's a very strong field. It's practically a masters really, isn't it?.

"They could potentially fade to each other with different partners in the second round. So that could be quite an interesting one. But yeah, another ATP two 50 in Moscow. Yeah, I'm expecting a Russian champion. So let's wait and see. Let's wait and see, indeed. And over an Antwerp, we've got the European open for the men where Yannick sinner is the top seed and Diego Schwartzman is the second seed. This is where Andy Murray is playing this week. You know, he won this event, didn't he? Two years ago, I think. And he's got Francis TFO in the first round, which again is another sort of slightly awkward tricky first rounder for Andy, as he's still getting wild cards and having to just deal with whatever happens. I think that's winnable for both TFA's had some really good wins this year on the tour. But I know that Andy has beaten him as well. I think this year. So certainly could go either way, I think that one. There's some quite fun matches in the top bit of the draw, a lot of Italians could be a sinner musetti second round Kristin has got to buy, which might be quite a fun match. But yeah, I feel for this one looking at Yannick sinner and I'm looking, yeah, perhaps if TFO can get through Andy Murray actually feel like he could go on a bit of a run. But maybe he could. Yeah, no, I certainly, I could see that. It feels like a 50 50. We'll find out. I think they're playing the scheduled on tomorrow after work quite usefully for British fans around 5 36 p.m., but yeah it's so annoying. I think for Murray, he seems to get these drawers that are just not ideal, but you know, we know this is what happens when you take kind of wild cards and I think he you know, if you look at the bigger picture, I think certainly that bottom half with the top two seeds being garyn and Schwartzman, that's the better half, I think to have landed in, but at the same time, yeah, he's going to have to kind of bring his best, I think, to kind of get through those TFO and Schwartzman who both a very, both very kind of solid competitors. I mean, I know Schwartzman lost quite easily to nori and Indian Wells, but again, it was quite I think he had been a bit of a stump actually and for him to progress as far as he did in India wells was definitely a step in the right direction for him. And I think he'll obviously be wanting to push that even further. But I mean, you've got Lloyd Harris, Riley a pelco could be quite a handful in these hard talk hard on these indoor hardcore hardcourts. And you've got van der zen Schultz Kim ceded against popper in, which I think is probably one of the pick of the first round matches both did quite well at the U.S. open. So I might have a bit of an eye on that one as well. Absolutely. Botticelli now of mainstream tennis fame. But yes, last but not least, you've got the WTF in Tenerife, which I think is a new one. Fantastic time to go to Tenerife for a holiday and combine it with some tennis, perhaps. But yeah, certainly not his headlining this one as the top seed. And then second see, tomorrow's a damn sex. So I feel like that's quite a golf with Switzerland. Quite a way ahead to headlines. Yeah. Headline accent. Quite a sizable headline act there. You do think that looking at this drawer that's fitting. It's a little bit of the is a big bit of a heavy favorite, I think. And I think, you know, there is a bit of pressure on her because she hasn't qualified yet for the end of season WTA finals. So, you know, for her, this is a big opportunity. I think given the draw, she's got to get some points to hopefully yes, cement her position there. I think she is in a half that's got you bitch, Camilla Georgie, Clara tolson's got Heather Watson in the first round as well. So you know, there are some interesting players that she could potentially come up against en route to the final, but certainly you think that that's Lena will be looking at this thinking, you know, I should be getting to the at least to the final here. Absolutely. You think this is hers to lose, really? But I do think that someone like sorrow cerebellum, you know, home soil or Camilla Georgie might do very well as well. So certainly not a given for specificity this week. But we shall see, we'll be back next week to round up what happens, you know, how well Andy Murray do, how will all the Russians get on at home? Will Switzerland win we'll discuss that next week, you'll won't we? Kim, I'm just looking at the tedder reef drawer. We could also very excited. I don't think this is going to happen. We could have an Allison van ut versus greet minon quantified if they both come through two batches. I don't think that's going to happen but I'd love to see that. Obviously, they're both partners. So I'd love to see them face face off against each other in the signals are either. So yeah, it would be interesting to see how that progresses in Tenerife. How all the tournaments progress as we move back into Europe and the indoor hard courts. We've got one men's master's event left as well in Paris and it's all up for grabs in terms of the ATP end of season finals as well as the WTA end of season finals.
